One of my favorite neighborhood spots and as I stated in Yelp this is one of the best places for margaritas and food. We have been coming to this place a long time now and will continue to go. Tonight we did the Houston Restaurant Week selection and it was fantastic. My only complaint would be that we sat outside and the Mosquitos are horrible. Sylvia go to Hone Depot they have a spray that you hook up to your hose and spray the plants and shrubs to kill the mosquitos. We love the sitting outside on the patio but don't want to get Zika.

Sylvia's enchilada are the best! This time I found a new favorite--pork with mole sauce. And another must-have is the chocolate tres leches cake--made with Mexican chocolate. You'll love it's much as I do!

Their claim to fame is their enchiladas. A big selection and all tasty. The sampler of four include mini enchiladas and is a great way to try them. Quick service. Will come again.

Loved it all! Loved the patio. The service was good. The carnitas enchiladas were good. The fajitas were good. The margs were good. We will definitely put this place on our go-to list.

Been here twice and can't get past ordering the beef fajitas. They are tender and flavorful and certainly enough to share, especially with the plate of food that accompanies them. The place has a vibrant atmosphere. Service is efficient and fast. Some of the best fajitas you will eat. Equally delicious wrapped in a flour tortilla with the many toppings that are included with the meal or just alone.

Visit here often, the food is great, and so is the atmosphere and location. But, the wait staff is spread too thin, and they have to buss their own tables, this makes the service slow and exceptionally poor. Don't be in a hurry if you go here.

Great place for dinning out excellence food and margaritas great service Juan the manager is great

I have been going there for several year. The food has always been consistent. We met some friends there this week for an early dinner. The service was very good. Margaritas were tasty. The food was well prepared and presented. The guacamole was good but other restaurants have better. The variety of enchiladas made it hard to pick one. In the end, I had the chicken with mole sauce. One of our friends had a sampler platter that looked very good. His wife also had the chicken with mole. My wife had a salad that was too healthy for a Tex-Mex restaurant. On the whole, it made for a very pleasant experience.

My husband and I visited this place for a late lunch after a dr. appt. It was between lunch and dinner and we were their only customers. The inside reminded us of Mexico with the mexican tiled walls and decor. Beautifully decorated. It also had a bar with two TVs. It was Monday so it was happy hr all day and margaritas were $4. They were excellent. We ordered an appetizer of guacamole which was very creamy and delicious. I ordered the San Juan which was a cheese enchilada, guacamole and a ground beef chalupa. It was an excellent choice. The enchilada was the best I've ever had and I've eaten a lot of enchiladas! Guess that's why it's called Enchilada Kitchen! The sauce was delicious and lots of cheese inside that did not harden up like some I've had. Their salsa was not chunky but was warm temperature wise and a little kick. The chips was thin and crispy. My husband had the McAllen which was 2 chicken enchiladas with rice and beans. He never likes the beans in a mexican restaurant but actually ate these! His chicken was perfectly cooked. Our waitress was extremely efficient checking on us and very friendly. Highly recommend this Mexican restaurant.

Wow! Can’t believe it took me this long to find this place. Probably the best Mexican food in town! Beautiful decor, great food and great service...

Quak is not that good ... no flavor.. looks like 2 scoops of ice cream the red salsa is OK but tastes like store bought . Ordered the enchiladas three types .. they were pretty good but really like authentic red sauces which I don't think it is .

As a Mexican expat I love coming to Sylvia's to have good enchiladas. Both upscale and family friendly. Serves both traditional Mexican and Tex-Mex fare. Service is always great and prices are moderate, but ok value overall.

On a Saturday night after church service at Second Baptist Church we were seated quickly. A really nice atmosphere with ample chips and salsa delivered quickly. The enchiladas are fabulous, not too spicy but flavorful. The service was very good. I think we were in and out in an hour. Ample parking and convenient location made this a good selection for dinner.

I have taken a class from Sylvia and was impressed with her background and story. the food here is very dependable and near the house so we come often. Naturally have the enchilada of your choice, I much prefer the Sarita enchiladas and her Fajitas, their salsa is addicting while their selection of Margaritas is extensive and tasty. Onward and upward Sylvia.........

Being from Miami, when I come to Houston I am craving good Mexican food. My friend and I visited this place, very impressed. The service was great as was the food. It is not cheap. We left there with $84 bill but fulfilled.

After seeing the enticing episode on Good Taste with Tanji, my two friends decided to treat me at the Woodway location for my birthday lunch. Saturday..Oct 5, 2019.....we arrived at 11:45am...place was empty but we thought it was too early for a crowd....the service was great and food presentation was very nice but maybe on too many plates...quail presentation beautiful, meat tender, but too strong of a smoke/charcoal flavor.....same with the beef/chicken combo fajitas, so strong of a smoked/charcoal flavor, I couldn’t eat it...ground beef enchilada and ground beef taco meat had strange aluminum flavor and no other flavor....we three have lunch all the time all over Houston, but we were very surprised and extremely disappointed in the taste of the food here...far from the expected and advertised...they did comp my dessert for my birthday which was really nice....the restaurant remained empty, one other table occupied, the entire time we were there which was 2 hours....so so sorry to say do not recommend...

I love this place! Excellent food and service. Great margaritas too. Ive visited several times the food and quality is always consistent.

Maybe beat i have ever had. They make nachos the old fashioned way (individually).entrees also outstanding. Wish they were in NYC!

Wide selection of enchiladas-- many selections both Tex Mex and interior Mexican variations. Food is good but not great -- seems like they are relying on reputation and not anything else. Interior is dated and atmosphere is lacking -- strip mall location. Better than most but not impressive.

We enjoy going here later in the evenings after tennis. We sit on the patio which is comfortable and usually pretty empty in the summer heat. Great place to grab dinner and a margarita. Everyone always likes their entrees and their drinks. Very good service.

Loved the decor and music playing. Our waitress was so good and prompt. The food looked very appealing. The only complaint we had was the taste of the beef in my enchilada and on my husbands chalupa, was "off". It just didn't taste right. I had to RUN to the bathroom within 10 minutes of eating it (before we left the restaurant).

If you call this text Mex it's pretty bland although they have several types of enchiladas they taste nowhere near going to a real Mexican restaurant don't know what happened to this place but I hope in the future they improve on their recipes

Visited recently while visiting family in Houston. We were seated outside, which was perfect. The staff were super attentive and our party of 10+ all agreed that the food was amazing. The chicken enchiladas were absolutely outstanding. A great evening - we will be back !

We hosted our son’s wedding rehearsal dinner here as it is a favorite of theirs. Juan was absolutely a pleasure to plan this event with. The food was amazing! The service impeccable. We utilized the outdoor patio for our event and even though there was a period of rain, we were dry and comfortable. Our margarita glasses were always full and they are delicious. Truly cannot thank them enough for such a special evening!

Sylvia's was my mother's choice for her birthday dinner. So, with 9 family and friends attending, we were pleased to have it fall during Restaurant Week. Their menu was very diverse and offered each of us our choice of appetizer/soup or salad, multi-item entrée + dessert. Also, on Thursdays - Margaritas are special priced! Everything was perfect - the service was wonderful...all the tasty Margaritas were 'bottomless', the tortillas & salsa kept coming AND each and everyone of us had a fabulous meal. They even brought her a special dessert & sombrero to wear while all of the staff and we sang to her. This is the 2nd time we have been her for her birthday, so if you have a larger group - rest assured, you will be very pleased with all aspects of your dinner. Thanks, Sylvia for a memorable birthday!

This was an unexpected surprise. Restaurant, tippically Mexican but not over done. Clean and nice. Food tasted excellent.

We had tried this place twice when it first came to our neighborhood, but were treated so badly, we gave up on it for 8-10 years. We went back in late May to give it another try, but weren't impressed enough to add it to our list of favorite Mexican restaurants, and the reasons why follow. The sauce is very thin, and just falls off the otherwise good chips. (It is served warm, by the way.) Guacamole is probably the worst I have eaten in town. (Probably a good thing, as the portion that accompanied my enchilada sampler plate was tiny.) My wife ordered the Chile Rellenos. These were served deep-fried, a somewhat unusual preparation, with a choice of queso OR a red sauce. (She wanted both, so we were charged an extra $3.00--no big deal) Portion size was more than most MEN could eat. I ordered the Enchilada Culinary Tour (South of the Border version), and thought all except the mole' version were good. The accompanying rice was non-descript, but the beans were slightly better than average. I'd skip the "picamole," as there is so little of it, it's not worth putting it on the plate. Service was decent, as were the Margaritas (one frozen house 'Rita and one call 'Rita.) All in all, it may be another 8-10 years before we go back, even though we were certainly treated better this time than the first two times.

Outstanding regional Mexican and Tex-Mex cooking, from the doyen of such cuisines. The emphasis is on enchiladas, but the menu is fantastically varied, and it is fun tasting all the regional variations on the staple foodstuff. great location, excellent service, and one of the few restaurants in Houston where you can converse with the people at your table in a normal voice.

Wonderful place . The best Tex-Mex food . Excellent service. Claudia served us and gave us the best service.

Came for dinner with friends Sunday. Busy, but got drinks and food after 30 mins. All downhill after. When food arrived 2 out of 3 managed to order more drinks. Finished eating still no drinks. Went to bar to order ourselves instead. Waited forever for check. Got check and no one took card so went to bar and ordered drink while waiting to pay. Bar staff said under staffed. Spoke with manager after paying and said need more staff. He just laughed. Asked for manager’s email. Doesn’t work. Save your money. Go somewhere where they actually care. Been going for years and they lost 3 customers for good that night.

This was an all around great visit. Upon being seated I was preoccupied looking into my purse and I was immediately served with chips and salsa. I hadn’t realized the server was standing next to my table. Their friendly staff was posted around the walls awaiting anyone’s needs. Victor, the manager, perused the restaurant interacting and serving guests no less than 5 times during my lunch. As he walked by he watched and listened to staff interactions as well. I ordered salad, spinach enchiladas, rice, and beans. While just starting my salad, my entree arrived. The server offered to return food and keep it warmed until I was ready. Moments after I’d pushed my salad away, my food appeared at table side without having to ask. I’ve been to several Mexican restaurants before but this was the first time I tasted the freshest farm to table ingredients. The spinach tasted like it was just picked and sautéed and the black beans had true flavor and not popped from a can. 10🌟 I shared this with my teenager and she was not impressed 😂 Thank you Sylvia’s for dining as it should be!!!

PRO'S: We eat at Sylvia's Woodway location. Sylvia's built their dining reputation on enchiladas and they are quite good. Cabrito and traditional green and red enchiladas make my list of favorites. I like to venture out to grilled quail, excellent chicken Hidalgo and similar unconventional dishes for Tex-Mex restaurants. Tired of calorie-loaded charro beans? Sylivia's offers an excellent alternative with the Mexican version of Caesar salad. The Perfecta margarita is particularly deadly but whose complaining. CON'S: Not many. The house made guacamole and red sauce accompanying the chips lack spiciness. Like all Tex-Mex restaurants, the wine list is uninteresting. SUMMARY: This is a frequent stop on our family's eating itinerary. One trip it's for the great variety of enchiladas. Next trip it's for a grilled meat dish without lots of carbohydrates found in most Tex-Mex places. We will continue returning to Sylvia's Enchilada Kitchen.

The flour tortillas were better than the meat inside of my fajitas. The Charro beans were ok, not as good as Las Mananitas on Mason Rd. in Cypress, Texas.

My father and I were really surprised by this restaurant. We ordered iced tea and a Coke..and to eat we had:my father had cheese enchiladas and I had 3 tacos plate We had a great food...really delicious and the price less than $40!!!! We also like the ambiance and the decor...my father and I loved.. The waiter was really professional.. I will come here more often!!!

TexMex is everywhere in the Houston, Texas area so if you’re in the mood for this type of food, there is no shortage of possibilities. I was on Woodway road at a small gathering one mid- afternoon when we noticed that Sylvia’s Enchilada Kitchen was right there, in the same strip mall. TexMex food sounded good and I had heard positive things about Sylvia’s so it seemed like a good place for an early dinner. The atmosphere at Sylvia’s Enchilada Kitchen is home- like and pleasant, with full bar and outdoor patio for dining in the fresh air, if you like. The kitchen aspects of the restaurant are obvious and it does place you in the mood for what you anticipate will be a memorable, home cooked TexMex meal. With the food, my table ordered an assortment of items. My youngest went for a kids meal and the rest of us ordered fajitas and enchiladas. I decided to go with the ground beef enchiladas. The quality was okay, but not as good as I hoped. I found the meat a little lacking in seasoning. I also question the decision to serve the enchilada meals on a tray consisting of two square steel plates. This is good for those who like to keep their food from touching, but it doesn’t make for an elegant presentation. I stuck with soft drinks when I was here and I like that they continuously refilled my cup of iced tea. My wife started off with a margarita and was disappointed. The taste was good, but it was far smaller in volume that the glass would lead you to believe. She rated the Mojito as better overall not just in taste, but also in size. Taken as a whole, I must say that Sylvia’s Enchilada Kitchen is a mixed bag. It wasn’t as good as the hype led me to believe, but there is enough good going on here to recommend a visit if you’re in the area.
Awesome TexMex
Sylvia's has great fresh TexMex of all sorts .. they do excellent enchiladas, great fajitas and really good guacamole. Margaritas are good but could be a bit stronger for the cost. Other locations around town are also equally good.
