Definitely authentic

My husband, who is from Liverpool UK, can’t remember the set time he had chips like he had at this place!! We would eat here regularly if we lived in his area! I just wish we weren’t passing through because I would like to try the full Irish breakfast! Love the atmosphere too! It totally took him back to his roots! We enjoyed walking on this street looking at all of the ships and restaurants. It was a totally unexpected surprise to find this place in residential area! Really fun. Parking was not fun though!

A Taste of the Green Isle

Having traveled to Ireland, it was a pleasant surprise to see an Irish pub in Portland! I had the fish and chips with a with an excellent Guinness pull! Not everyone gets that right!! The topper, for me, was the bread pudding. It's not a common desert and, even less common, done well in my opinion. This one rivals the few good ones I've had. Well worth a revisit if I'm back this way!

A TRUE Irish pub in Portland

By Pat T |

I know that there are "pubs" in Portland, but let's face it, a lot of them are local "watering holes" that have a bit of touch of the UK/Scotland/Ireland. O'Leary's FEELS like a pub. There is a snug (just inside the door). There was NO TV, no music blaring, it was a pub atmosphere of the 50's and 60's in Ireland! You could actually carry on a conversation at your table. The whiskey list in the pub is unbelievable!! It is HUGE with all of the Irish and Scottish whiskeys that you could want. They had the large, medium, small and boutique distillery products for you to enjoy. I had the Teeling blend and the serving was what you'd expect. The Guinness is wonderful and well poured. There are very very few places where I can walk in and expect to feel the warmth of the pub, the welcoming atmosphere of the publican and his staff, but THIS place has it. I HIGHLY recommend this pub to locals and visitors to Portland.

A Bit of Ireland

Finally made my way here during Happy Hour. Spent a very pleasant evening enjoying a pint of Guinness, Smithwicks and half-order of fish and chips. Delicious. Service - very good. Prices - excellent. Reminded me very much of Ireland. Intend to come back for the Irish breakfast during brunch.

Excellent breakfast need to return for night out

Happy accident in finding TC O'Leary's for breakfast. Enjoyed Boxty (Irish potato pancake with onions and side of apple jam, plus a side of rashers aka bacon), and a fresh squeezed mimosa (first rate). Excellent food and service. Good value for the money. Would give it a higher rating but would want to come back for dinner soon.

Genuine Irish Pub

By sjdesrv |

This is the real deal, owned and operated by an Irish soap opera actor, Tom O’Leary and his family. It is a rather new pub only in its third year. They are still trying new items on both the bar and food menus. I have had both lunch and dinner here and have not been disappointed in any of the food offerings I’ve tried. The beer selection is not huge but all that is needed in an Irish pub. It is a small venue so if there is a special event going on be prepared for a crowd....St. Patricks Day is fun but crazy. Last year was insane (2018). This year not as much due to a main water break and flooding a few blocks away. Tom and crew made the best of a difficult situation and I still had an amazingly fun time. Check out their website for entertainment, several times a week there is live music. If the kBoston baseball is on, or rugby be prepared for a lively crowd. They are located just steps away from the Alberts Rose. Stop by after a show. This is now one of my go to places in Portland.

we wanted to try this place since it was a whiskey bar previously, and came for brunch yesterday....i had the carlsberg lager, and my partner had the 20oz traditional guinness pour...thirst quenching for both of us...next, we each had the smoked salmon omelet, and she tried a salmon boxty, and all were delicious......the bartender was real nice and friendly....service was quick...the atmosphere is real cozy and irish...thx so much....

A little bit o' Southie

Dropped in by chance to find an update on an old favorite - Irish Coffee. This one is cold-brew based and delicious in summer. Paired with a pint of Guiness, it's a family affair.

Irish Bar in Portland Oregon

By dempsey2018 |

Authentic Irish Bar where Tom the owner takes the time to know you. Best pint of Guinness in Oregon, The Food is Great You have to try the fish and chips and The Full Irish breakfast. Having grown up in Ireland this is the closest to an Irish Bar that I have experienced since I moved here 30 years ago. The owner Tom and his wife care about their customers. Hands down March 17 2018 at TC Oleary was my best St Patricks day in the USA since I moved here. Guinness, Rugby, Irish Dancing, amazing people and just a great time. A great local Irish Bar

Best Irish Pub Around!

By Michael M |

Great food, great beers and great whisky selections. By far the most authentic Irish Pub you will find with beers and whisky from Ireland that you will have a hard time finding anywhere else. Not just your standard Guinness and Jameson here. Great Shepard pie and fish and chips as well. Just overall greatness!

A warm and welcoming Irish pub

By Jerry W |

O'Leary's is an authentic Irish pub with warmth and welcome. Informal dining from a very streamlined menu - - the fish and chips are terrific, the Haddock soup is "wow" tasty, and the Blaas will cure the . . . well, cure the you know whats on a rainy Portland evening. Very solid beer on tap selection, a real Irish welcome, and the crowd is suitably cheerful and glad to be here. Nice place, good food and drink, and a "we could sit here for hours" ambiance - - except "ambiance" is too fancy. This is more like a very good friend's kitchen.

Fairly Close To An Irish Breakfast

By atherts |

There's a lot to like about this place. Friendly staff, prompt service, great selection of goodies, beer and whiskey. We came for the Irish breakfast. We have been to Ireland numerous times and had some preconceived ideas. It was close. It did have the essentials, black and white pudding, Irish bacon, sausage and eggs. It wasn't bad. The mushrooms were a nice addition. What was missing was brown bread, it sounds like it was available, but not a default. It should be. No marmalade or jam either. The sausage was a bit bland. Definitely not Clonakilty sausage. Having something a bit closer to that would be a treat. The black pudding was a bit bland while the white pudding had more flavor, neither was quite what we were hoping for. Actually what I was hoping for as my wife doesn't care for it and puts it on my plate. I've tried a lot of different kinds in our travels, and these were a bit light in flavor. The Irish bacon was good quality but needed a bit more cooking to give it more flavor. I suspect that they are sourcing the meat locally, but hopefully it's a work in progress. We'll be back, but probably not for the breakfast.

Very cool Irish Pub - not fancy.

By BunnieinOregon |

The owner is on site and super friendly. Cute too! Reasonable prices on beer and wine. Great Pino Gris - on tap! They barbecue ribs outside. We didn't have it but wow it looked great served with corn on the cob. Families with kids were dining here besides adults having adult beverages. Close to Alberta Rose Theater.

Felt like home...good effort

By The Real RedArcher |

Walked in and felt like every pub in Ireland...a mayor like!!! The atmosphere was nice...the meal was a good effort for what is available. We had a "traditional" full Irish breakfast. The rashers were ok but not a great flavor. The sausages should not crumble but has a nice flavor. The eggs well if you like them runny they are fine. The scrambled not so nice. Toast didn't have the Irish butter on it...you CAN taste the difference. The mushrooms were spot on. The tomato is supposed to be slices in half and cooked but was thinner than you get on a normal burger. It was total mush. The beans...well all I can say is why in the hell didn't you go to the world market and buy some Heinz beans??? This is what we do when we have beans and toast here. The beans were hard and had an odd flavor. With all this said it was still made with great effort. The few things I did have issue with was the nasty red beard hairs that was attached to my sausage. Made me feel sick. And the fact instead of serving us a pot of tea like you would get at home if you were order multiple cups as we had. We were handed 4 tea bags and told the hot water was over there with the cups. The tea in question was the very same we have in our press in the kitchen that we bought at Walmart... the cost of 1 tea bag was the cost of an entire box of them. It cost us $12 for 4 single cups of tea. That is what I am most did pleased about.

Stopped in at this pub for Sunday brunch. The Smithwick’s was as good as in Dublin. Full Irish breakfast was pretty authentic and delicious. Great lineup of Irish and Portland taps. Barkeep was friendly and helpful.
