It s a small restaurant with lots of charm. The food is great. There are a variety of cocktails and you should try them all. If you come between the hours of 5-7pm - its happy hour, buy one drink get the second one free. The service is great. Loved it.

Went for Brunch on Saturday. A great price that included one drink (mimosa, margarita, etc), coffee, and an entree or specialty. I Ordered the Extrana con huevos (skirt steak, fried egg, fries. INCREDIBLE. SToP IN THIS PLACE - its full of hipsters and great food and music! (dj was there)

Discovered Tabare a few years ago and have regularly returned even from across the river. The food warrants it - octopus casserole, steak sandwich (loaded with everything you could possibly imagine), chimicurri skirt steak and the chicken milanese with mustard are delectable, and happy hour (5-7, i think every day, if not just weekends) makes dinner for two here AFFORDABLE. It's a gem. Don't tell too many people.

I didn't know the restaurant would be serving brunch only. I wasn't feeling too great but I toughed it out. They sat us down right away 15 minutes before the reservation time, that was nice. The food Appetizers- order of empanadas- one chicken, one beef it came with a spicy type of chimmichuri sauce- really good, but small.. I could have eaten just that. The filing was flavorful and the sauce had just the amount of spice and herbs. Yum! Churasco (skirt steak) cooked to a perfect medium, the flavor was excellent, it eas juicy, tender and has the perfect amount of salt. Steak doesn't need a lot spices when cooked perfectly. It came with a sunny side up egg on top, some baby greens and a side of home fries that were seasoned with fresh rosemary. Also chimmichurri on the side. Chivito- filet mignon sandwich with black forest ham, provolone cheese, roasted red peppers, olives, lettuce & tomato on a soft bun. Served with fries and garlic aioli. The only thing I didn't like was the olives on the sandwich. I like olives but not on my sandwiches. But they were easy to just pick off. This place is very trendy, cute, and the decor was nice as well. It seemed like it was run by a family. It's on a quiet residential block. They have outdoor seating in the back and one table in the front. The waiter could have been a little better but one guy who seemed to be the manager was more attentive. I'd go back.

We were visiting our son and were looking for an intimate neighborhood restaurant with good food. Our visit was several months back but as I recall the food was interesting and tasty. What I remember most is the Verde cocktail - among the best mixed drinks that I have had at any restaurant or bar!!! I highly recommend making plans to eat here if you’ll be in the area.

It was the husband's birthday and I was making it up to him since we both had to work late on the actual date. We arrived early to avoid the Sunday brunch crowd and were the first people there. Decor is like a old grocery store with a bar smacked in the middle, seating is very intimate and I guess it could get really noisy when it's crowded. Can't tell you anything about the wine or cocktails since I don't drink, husband had a glass of the merlot which was strong, but nothing great. But the coffee I had was out of this world, it was smooth and rich, not bitter at all like Starbucks which I hate. The menus change slightly daily depending on whatever fresh ingredients the chef has that day. Husband had the Entrana con huevo, grilled grass fed skirt steak with sunny side up egg, home fries and a side salad. Get it medium rare, the center is red without bleeding, very tender, I had the revuelto gramajo which is scrambled egg with cubed ham and yellow squash. I usually like a lot of ketchup on my scrambled eggs, but this just needed a little salt and this was so good, it didn't need it. They did not serve any bread or toast with their brunch, the husband was looking for it, but in the end, he didn't need any. Will try to go back to try their dinner.

Recommended by foodie friends. Dropped in for Happy Hour empanadas and 2 for 1 mojitos. Tasty intro to Uruguayan food. Can't wait to go back for more.

Came here with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday. We arrived early with most of our group and they let us sit down before the last two showed up. The menu is great and diverse with tapas, I had the chorizo and it was great. Also my friends had the sangria and said it was very good. Service was outstanding and fast!

We have a good time and have a delicious food celebrating my friends birthdays we always visit this restaurant because we love everything specialty the stakes they cook so good and the salad the desert everything is delicious I love this restaurant in Brooklyn NY Excelente comida mucho sabor y Me encanta el churrasco que hacen síganme en Instagram: @angely_turistiando para que vean los lugares que visito

Wow...Cuisine from Uraguay not in mainstream but should be..all the dishes here were unique and very well prepared...we had octopus, branzino, black sausage, hangar steak, homemade ravioli and pasta with outstanding deserts...bottle of red from 2004 for 55 dollars was a great value...attentive service completed the experience ...don't miss this one.

I decided to check out a different restaurant in Williamsburg and we found this great place with a uruguayan kitchen. The atmosphere is very cozy and warm with nice music in the background. The service is very friendly and quick. I've ordered the Chivito Completo which was super tasty combined with a fresh Mimosa. I highly recommend this restaurant.

You know, if you find yourself walking by and just happen I to this place, you'll have an extremely pleasant time--more so than my rating might suggest. The atmosphere is cosy and quite charming without being to antique-y or Brooklyn dirty. The food was a little uneven but not in a terrible way. The empanadas and sweet potato soup was great. Some of the other things were fine but I was going they'd be more special from the description. Nice enough.

Despite what some of the other reviews may say, I was really pleased with my dinner at Tabare. As I understand, it's a Uruguayan restaurant and there is a lovely cosy, warm atmosphere - it definitely felt like a winter restaurant. I don't often pick steak from a menu, but I was extremely pleased with the results. 3 our of our group of 4 made the same choice and we were all very happy. We were almost defeated by the size of the portion but each persisted, mainly because it was delicious! I would take friends back.

Service was great. Food was absolutely amazing. I loved my hand-pulled linguine cooked in hamburger tomato sauce. My partner had a steak seasoned with some unique Uruguayan sauce, very juicy and tender! The potatoes cooked in duck fat were very crispy on the outside, very good as well!

It's one of those Williamsburg places that you wish you'd find elsewhere in the city. Unpretentious, tastefully decorated, perfectly attended by owners and staff. The menu is short and clear and, oh, so good! The octopus casserole could have more octopus but it's forgiven as the potatoes and the lima beans tasted great. The empanadas are simply perfect. The salmon came on a bed of mashed potatoes with scallions and dried cherry tomatoes. Simple, light, yummy. Oh, and cocktails cost $6 at happy hour. Wednesdays, happy hour all night. Highly recommended.

I am from Uruguay and I am very disappointed. The owner was extremely rude because we arrived late to our reservation due to traffic. Insisting we must order right away because he had another group after us. He basically said if you aren't done with your meal by 9pm, we are going to ask you to leave. So we waited an hour and a half for our main course and practically had to inhale our food, because we had to finish by 9pm for a group of people that never arrived. Also the food was very salty and greasy, not to mention expensive and had very small portions. We don't usually write reviews at all, but unfortunately this experience merits a terrible one. You are better off going to El Chivito de Oro or My Uncle Dulis in Queens, trust me...

This small but great Urguayan Steaks restaurant is really good. Mariana the Manager is really nice. Went with my family. Had the empanadas, the provoletta. The churrasco and the Branzino. The flan with dulce de leche. Very nice.

Good restaurant - I had the Churrasco, and really liked it, although is a bit different from the original

Nice setting, very good , we took the magnet and octopus c was excellent , thank you for this moment , it was very good in the terrace with the heaters , good time

Had the Empanadas, Chicken Milanese, Chivito Completo, Alfajor Rustico, all of which were absolutely delicious! The space was charming and the service superb. We'll be back.

It doesn't smell, look, or feel like anything Uruguayan . There is nothing Uruguayan about this restaurant! I ordered the Uruguayan Chorizo which was served cold, the bartender; who happened to be from Venezuela, surprisingly enough had no customer service skills, doesn't know anything about Uruguayan dishes, was extremely rude, does not belong in the service industry. When time to pay, I pulled my CC and he barked that they only accepted AMEX or cash. Will not be returning and definitely telling everyone I know about my horrible experience.

This is a great restaurant in Williamsburg. We had an evening meal which was delicious. The atmosphere is fun and cosy with great music at just the right volume. The service was really friendly.

Very impressed by their Uruguayan & Argentinian delicious food! Especially empanadas, beet salad and steaks! And their Tabaré house wine is amazing (half priced during happy hours!). Our waitress was so nice & the service was really really good until …. they asked me & my two business clients to leave as our reservation was over ?!!! I can’t believe it. We spent like $500 and kept ordering drinks & all kind of food non-stop, but they said that it’s common in NYC that any table reservation is limited to only 2 - 2,5 hours max (that I believe is total nonsense!). We are spending money - why are you kicking us out?! Initially I wanted to give 3 stars to this restaurant because of that, but since they really have an amazing meal I decided to give them 4 stars. Just don’t even try to have a long business meeting / dinner there. This is a good spot for friends & family & a quick dinner or drinks.

Our Williamsburg resident daughter-in-law recommended this place. Wow. So authentic, great Uruguayan food and wines, great music and super nice staff. We shall be back for sure.

The prices are reasonable and the portions large. I had a special, a cheese omelet wtih radish greens with a side of potatoes and small salad greens for $9. It was delicious. For happy hour, the cocktails were $6 and I had a wonderful Mezcal cocktail. The other's in our party had the price-fixe brunch for $17 which included coffee, a mimosa (or sangria). The skirt steak special was also delicious as was a filet mignon sandwich. I didn't taste the challa french toast, but it looked beautiful. The decor is tasteful. There is outside garden seating in the back. Look forward to trying this restaurant for dinner

Tonight with some friends we decided to go to this restaurant to celebrate a birthday. I'm from Uruguay and since they have an uruguayan menu I was almost sure the food will be great for me and my friends, but what a MISTAKE..I order a "chivito" totally different to the one I know and of course "DISGUSTING",the chocolate cake "HORRIBLE",the bottles where they bring you water "DIRTY" and now I understand why they have a "B" from sanitation. Prices so high for this kind of "cave" and of course 20% tip included in the bill...(the only way to received a tip from me) because finally one of the guy from the staff was so rude telling us that we have to go because they need our tables.. What a P.O.S . of restaurant, believe me please don't go...it's worst than a real cave with real cavemans...

We went with our two teenagers and enjoyed a great meal! Fabulous atmosphere and delicious food. Would highly recommend you have a meal here when in Brooklyn!

To our surprise-Tabare was a great find indeed on a random night in Williamsburg. Unique, low key, and just enough character. This Uruguayan restaurant is worth the drive for brunch/dinner. Romantic, intimate, warm, very interesting decor, and mix crowd. It was a nice warm night in Brooklyn so we sat in the backyard which I adore. I had mussels, beets salad, and steak. It was enough for two with another side to say the least. The cocktail, was a bit too sour for my taste, but I guess that's how they do it in Latin country. Love small dishes and this place portion is not the small portion I am accustom to for sure. Overall great experience and food was better than expected. Worth the ride.

Went today for brunch and was really dissapointing. I'm uruguayan and wanted to try home town food and couldnt get it. Choripan (sausage sandwich) was a burned small sausage and ciabata bread was hard as a rock. We ordered coke and the waiter gave us a glass filled out of a used can with no bubbles, had to ask a new glass of coke and saw the waiter finally opening a can of pepsi. I have to say that the taste of Chivito was very good and with good flavour but the fries that came with it tasted like old oil. Empanadas were okay, dough was overdone and fried not baked. Dulce de leche flan was delicious and reminded me of the flavour of my country. Its a shame to have this experience when i had really great expectations of my hometown food, maybe was bad luck of the day.

My friend and I were in NYC on business and hopped over to Brooklyn for a change of scenery. We stumbled upon Tabare, and we were so happy we did! We sat at the bar and were only going to have a drink or two plus an appetizer while we waited for another friend to transition to dinner. Since it was Wednesday, we were pleasantly surprised to find happy hour ran ALL night! The cocktails are great, I had several made with Brazilian liquor, my friend had bourbons. Our empanada appetizer was outstanding as well! The bartender, Adele, was very friendly. Great atmosphere; not a lot of space inside. I would happily go back for drinks again or dinner!

Wow was impressed. Great $20 brunch, which is one of the major plates and a cocktail wine or beer. If it is not a great deal they will help you order. I had a burger with bacon, onion, cheese, egg and it was fabulous with some very decent fries. Until 7 on weekends, cocktails are on $7. great service, small inviting space and they have a nice back patio.

I went there with my friends and two kids for brunch. We reserved the table for six. For brunch you have to make reservation especially when you are going there with a larger group pf people. We ordered for kids breaded chicken cutlet with french fries. We ordered Churrasco skirt steak served with chimichurri sauce, duck fat potatoes, house salad. Everything was delicious. I am not a big fun of steaks but these one was incredibly tasty and full of flavor. I like steak well done and this one was perfect. Kids were surprised that the chicken cutlet was so good and they ate everything. For desert we ordered macchiato coffee and Torta de Chocolate Negro, which is a flourless dark chocolate cake served with seasonal fruits and mascarpone cream. I am definitely coming back to Tabare.

So I have been coming to Tabare for a few years now. I recently went and it was exactly as I remembered. Let's just say having a father who is Uruguayan I almost never order steak when going to a restaurant but omg they sure know how to cook skirt steak and the chimichurri is soo awesome. I also love the provoleta which is so tasty. The restaurant itself is very small but if you go during a weekday you should have plenty of space.

Uruguay is the country featured here. That means meat. They do it well and its authentic. Service is sweet but a bit slow during hectic prime time. Its worth a detour without needing a passport. Clientele is youngish as you'd expect in Wiliamsburg. But all gets treated equally.

Went with friends from Uruguay on an ice cold Saturday night early February. Had a fabulous meal and good time. Very cosy, unpretentious atmosphere. Fast & friendly service. Food superb. Three dishes: cheesy entre, pasta as main and serious chocolate cake for desert. Straight forward food but when done with heart and skill, excellent for taste buds and belly. Three others in group all went for steaks, they liked it lots. I never drink alcohol but were impressed by my firends taste of Uruguayan red wine. Left happy and light hearted. Fair pricing, top value.
Best restaurant in Willliamsburg
