Busy place, nice atmosphere

By Deborah C |

This is a popular neighborhood restaurant with wait staff who know their stuff and a nice variety of food and drink. The fish and chips is a local favorite, I enjoyed one of their specialty salads and my husband was disappointed because he wanted a grilled cheese sandwich and they wouldn't make him one. Really? At least ask the cook or chef, or whoever is behind the grill. You can see where I'm going. I personally didn't love their options for local brews, but if you are an IPA person, you'll have plenty of choices. We were there twice, enjoying the casual atmosphere. Better to have an adventurous appetite.

Get the bacon jam!

By Laura M |

We stopped here for happy hour and so glad we did! The mac-n-cheese was delish and the bacon jam is indescribable! Several beers to choose from and great outdoor seating.

Good Food with a variety of menu options

By FloridaGal3740 |

We had enjoyed take-outs from this restaurant but this was our first time visiting the actual establishment. The food choices are excellent with a nice variety of options. The portions are very generous so unless you are really hungry, you might want to consider sharing an order. We enjoyed the turkey club sandwich. It comes with a specialty called "bacon jam" that is a spread put on the sandwich. The bread is a tasty artisan bread that really makes the sandwich a treat. It is a neighborhood pub with lots of locals. The service is excellent.

Best place I ate while visiting Portland...

By HappyWS |

I visited some old friends in Portland recently and we ate at Tabor Tavern...TWICE. It was that good. Once for their burger I'd heard about & once for Sunday brunch. Both were excellent. I bought jars of their Bacon Jam to take home, it's to die for. Service was friendly, I'd definitely recommend this neighborhood place for food & drinks that won't disappoint!

Happy hour Homegrown

By CrystalGwilliam |

After finishing a day of medical treatments, my doctor recommended Tabor Tavern for dinner. Because of the early hour, I took advantage of the happy hour specials - fries and a house salad. The staff was courteous and helpful - especially with my limited diet (gluten free, dairy free, egg free). The salad was exceptionally delicious, the fries were overdone and under seasoned (from Idaho and am admittedly spoiled with potatoes) - hence the four stars, not five. Every dish I saw come out of the kitchen looked and smelled amazing! Would love to bring my family back here to experience this culinary delight.

Happy hour for team thank you

By SuziaPortlandOregon |

Happy hour plates were delicious with good drink options. Hamburgers delicious. I would not return with a group because it is too loud. They need sound baffling like others restaurants have done.

Wow - the food is excellant!!!

By bbfiat |

Sunday at 11 and we were seated immediately :). The Bloody Marias were delivered quickly and they were a spicy concoction that surprised us and made us want a few more!! We had our order delivered quickly and the 5 of each loved everything. Eggs Benedict, Huevoes Rancheros, Blueberry/Ricotta Waffles and Chicken fried steaks; kept all us quiet for over 20 minutes. No complaints around the table. I fact, we passed around bites and we all wished we had ordered the bite we had just tasted!!! And it has outdoor seating for the dog-friendly folks out there.

Amazing food!

By ZombieDoll |

We went here for lunch since we tend to drive by it whenever we go to Universal Cycles. It's pretty cool inside with old school light bulbs and a dark atmosphere. I ordered the Tabor Burger and my bf ordered the Turkey Club. The food came out pretty fast and my goodness it was delish. Bacon jam? Omg so freakin good. I highly recommend this cool lil spot for good food and good beer.

Great Tavern

By wayflos |

We enjoyed a midweek lunch here while in Portland, we will be back. We each had a glass of wine with the salmon burger, lentil soup and roasted beet salad, they were delicious. The service was special, how often have you been in a tavern recently, where the bartender was polishing the glasses after they came out of the dishwasher? We loved this place!

Fun neighborhood tavern

By Robert and Jan A |

We were in Portland, needing lunch, and stopped in here. We enjoyed the beer and had a pretzel and also a biscuit with honey. The pretzel was nothing to write home about but ok ($7.00 for 2) The biscuit was excellet but the honey was tastey but like water. Beers were very good.

Tabor Tavern An Unexpected Pleasure

By James H |

Tabor Tavern Stands alone at 55th and Burnside, a place where some of the trends of portland dining have come together to produce outstanding food. Waitresses are mature intelligent women who are great guides to the menu and extremely helpful. One suggested the excellent PearCider which I fwllin love with immediately and continue to order with its combination of sweet taste and rich flavor. The hamburgers are exquisite, cooked to oder with high quality beef and served on brioche. I keep p wanting to expand my horizons but the burger are so good I am unwilling to forego the. The friendly staff, neighborhood vibe, and pleasant atmosphere meths an extraordinary stop. And if u r a member of the airline dining programs, u can pick up points here. A nice friendly place that will enjoy

Creative Classic Pub Grub

By Michelle M |

Great neighborhood bar, serving not your average food. Fantastic comfort food, kicked up a notch. Top quality homemade all around. Bacon jam was fantastic as well. Creative dishes, but still doesn't lose the classic quality. Cider on tap was great too!

A neighborhood gem!

By Tracy C |

My family goes to Tabor Tavern several times a year, even though we no longer live on that side of town. They have imaginative cocktails, a good beer selection, and a reliably delicious selection of seasonally inspired entrees and desserts. One of us usually gets a burger, and another orders a salad for sharing. We've never had a bad meal here, and the service is always friendly and competent. Kids can't be served after 8pm and can't be seated past 7pm, but this is a perfect spot for lunch or an early dinner. If you're on the east side near Mount Tabor, check it out!

Great spot for brunch or lunch

By Reattig |

After eating a truly substantial breakfast burrito there, my 14-year-old son has decided that Tabor Tavern is his favorite Portland restaurant. For a boy that also recently experienced Coquine, Renata and other high-end restaurants in the city, that's high praise. Tabor Tavern does put out great lunch sandwiches and bodacious brunch plates. It's not a diet place, but it will leave you, like it did my son, happy and full.

Mussels and Eggs

By Patricia Colleen Murphy |

We read reviews of the deviled eggs--someone raved they were the best ever. I found them to be just okay. I wasn't a big fan of the smoking process used on the whites. I liked our arugula salad with blueberries and the curry mussels. The service was just okay--we had to stand up and go get our server twice. She smiled a whole lot but didn't come by very often.

we all liked out breakfasts

By MTLSEA |

It's a nice local place- service was great and all the dishes had a little something personal . Would go again

Best Meal I Had in Portland

By FraserLocal |

We only went for happy hour and somehow this place was still the best meal I had in Portland. With so much pretension about food and coming off like a hipster in this city at least this restaurant delivered exactly what they said they would and it was awesome. The waitress was a lovely sweet girl. We got 4 cocktails and 5 appetizers and it came out to only $30 and it was MORE then enough food for 3 people at an early dinner. The drinks were strong, well made and aptly garnished ( we got a Ginger Snap, a Cuke Hand Luke, and a good ole Rum N Coke). The Kale salad was dressed lovely, the fish and chips was crisp and well seasoned the fries were well made and the malt sauce to go with was delish ( we had to get a second order) and the handmade soft pretzel was very clearly handmade and delicious as well ( good grainy mustard!), which I appreciated. This place was great. Forget the hipster/foodie thing everywhere else and go here to get a meal that actually tastes great and is made well!

Solid burger and fries

By sharkagirl77 |

Solid burger and excellent fries. Grilled, not fried. Standard selection with a few variations. The GF bun was dry but the brioche bun was good. Service was good.

Mellow Friendly Place

By Laura K |

I had spent all day at Providence Hospital while my husband underwent jaw surgery. That evening, after he was settled for the night, I decided to give this tavern a try. The cosmo cocktail was just right and the kale Caesar salad was wonderful. And did I mention that the service was quick and friendly? I would highly recommend this establishment.

Great food and drink

By marcia_marcia |

A friend recommended this place for a fun evening and it did not disappoint. I had what was a modified Manhattan that was simply divine. My friends loved their drinks too. We shared some Scotch eggs, cauliflower fritters, and Brussels sprouts; found all to be delicious. There was a spicy potato soup that was really good and some spicy fried chicken that was also really tasty. I endorse both food and drinks here.

cozy tavern in a cool neighbourhood

By molly322014 |

Very cool, cozy tavern in a cool neighbourhood. Food was good, service was excellent. I enjoyed the fried chicken sliders.

Wonderful, but we wont be going back because...

By Rubytwosdae |

It was very busy when we arrived at 5:20pm on a Friday night. Waited for a table or booth for about 10 mins. We were grateful the Server allowed us to order from the Happy Hour menu, since we only had a minute to spare. Food and drinks came quickly and were delicious. The bill came right after we were done eating and after we paid at the table we were encouraged to leave because people were waiting to be seated. I’ve never had that happen before, although I admit I don’t eat out that often. We won’t be going back because there are many other options where we’re not pressed to get out. ~ Finding parking was a nightmare in the pouring rain in the dark. That’s not the venue’s fault, just be prepared to struggle to find a spot if you’re unfamiliar with the neighborhood.

This Tells the Story

By Katie M |

This pub is in a spot formerly occupied by a reliable, family-run Vietnamese restaurant. It’s a few blocks from our home, and we’d go there often. Since Tabor started up in the same place, we go there about once a year. Nothing about it is good enough to drive us to go more often than this. Everything is fine, and it’s a fun place for a large group to hang (if there’s room), but in a town full of food options it just doesn’t stand out.

Nice place with good food and beer!

By GregAP |

Good salad with smoked chicken thigh. Amber on Nitro. Relaced atmosphere. Friendly service. Tough to get better than that!

Great Food

By Milestogo007 |

Have eaten here three times and the food is very good. The hamburger is the best I have ever had and there garden salad is extremely tasty, they put like a pink pickled onion in the salad and use fresh greens and a vinegarette dressing that is just perfect. The fish and chips are great but I warn you right now that you better be extremely hungry or you will not finish the meal. Absolutely huge! The soup is fantastic and the fried chicken sandwich is out of this world. I have not had a bad meal here yet and the service was very good as well. Prices are very good I think because the portions and the quality of the food are excellent. Great food!

Good Burgers

By Leah M |

I had the Tabor Burger and it was very good. Husband had Shepards Pie and he ate almost all of it, it was very large and lunchtime so it must have been REALLY good. Beer was good service could have been a touch better but alright. Will most likely return.

The perfect meal after a day of hike in the Columbia River Gorge area ...

By Deb G |

We sat outside and were very comfortable. The food was sort of pub type food but with some nice options such as a lamb burger or fried chicken burger. There was a great selection of beer but I also found an enjoyable glass of wine. A comfortable restaurant for a relaxing evening ...

Great place, inside and out

By GoingThere77 |

We walked here from our daughter's house; it's like their personal neighborhood hangout where everybody knows their name. We sat inside; the sidewalk seats looked fine, too. A casual place, typical Portland. Great menu selection, for just a bite or a hearty meal. Our choices were fish and chips (a fan favorite), and Mac & Cheese, with a side order of peas. Service, selection, price: love the Tabor Tavern.

Different.

By carmelperez |

Visitors here from out of town, beware. They don’t have some of the simple things like Tabasco sauce. We ordered an array of items off of the small menu. One of them was the chicken fried steak. It was not what we expected nor was it what I’ve always had at every other restaurant that serves a chicken fried steak. It has a super crunchy almost burnt exterior and not pounded out like a normal steak. So the meat was tough even to cut. Service was mediocre. We had to keep asking for things like sugar, and ice for our water and straws. Our server was friendly but God forbid you ask for help from a server who wasn’t serving your table. Lol. I always tip, but Mandatory gratuity sucks. Just a different kind of “food”. Maybe I’m just not used to “Portland food” or maybe it wasn’t good, not sure, but different.

Brunch was OK...

By jackwidely |

met for brunch on the weekend and got there early enough not to have to wait in line-- by 11-11:30 there was a short wait. the menu is pretty extensive but everything was a bit too salty for our liking. typical drinks are available. prices are reasonable. parking next door or easily on the street.

Not so good

By RokeyPDX |

About a year ago, I emailed Tabor Tavern asking if they took reservations, as we had a special occasion we wanted to celebrate there and they fill up quickly. I got emails back from a couple of different people, one of which was sort of rude, so I was "off" the restaurant for a while. Last night we took a friend from out of town there, as it is a nice ambiance and the food is pretty good. Getting there at 5:00 is a good plan if you hope to get a table; we were lucky enough to get the last booth. The menu hasn't changed much - if at all - in the last year and is pretty limited, but they have a good selection of wines and beers and we settled in. I chose the lamb gyro special. The gyro came out on a huge pita, dressed with lettuce and, inexplicably, french fries. I hadn't read the description very thoroughly, so I was surprised that there was no tzatziki, but rather a sort of salty, peppery, sweetish marinade. Not good. Very not tasty - in my opinion, the best thing about a gyro is the contrast between the tzatziki and the lamb. This marinade/sauce thing was dark and cloying and just didn't taste very good. I tore bits of the pita which hadn't been soaked in the sauce off and ate those. I left the majority of the food on my plate, which the waitress removed without comment. Years ago, I waited tables - if I'd removed a plate from a guest with 99% of the food still on it, I would have asked what was wrong and more likely than not taken the food off the bill. We ended up walking down the street to the Tannery, where I finally got to eat. So we gave Tabor Tavern another chance, they let us down, and we have decided to remove them from our restaurant rotation.

More than a pub

By momawras |

The food here is wonderful! Fish and chips and Mac and Cheese were more than expected and delicious. Friendly bar staff and good drinks.

Sunday Brunch

By Becs D |

Came here for Sunday brunch - our server was very nice, but we had a few dietary requirements that were a bit difficult to cater for (one of us is low carb, both non-dairy). We both had a tofu veggie scramble - although it was good, it just wasn't quite what we were expecting in terms of portion size and we were hungry about an hour later. That said, other people in the restaurant who ordered burgers and fish & chips received really decent portions, so we may have just ordered wrong. Overall the experience was OK, but I'm not sure I'd return for brunch again. Maybe for drinks or bar snacks.

Neighborhood gem

By OrrgonDuckFan |

The four of us (two couples) really enjoyed our Saturday brunch at Tabor Tavern. Calling this a "tavern" really doesn't do it justice - the interior is VERY nice. None of us had ever been here and next time we're in that part of Portland we'd definitely consider a return visit. And, yes, terrific menu and the food was great. Two of us had fish & chips (generous portion of haddock, lightly breaded), while the other two had burgers. We really couldn't have been more pleased with the food or the quality of the service. And very good selection of local beers on tap. Tabor Tavern is a winner.

Best Club

By HDS1953 |

We received a gift card for Christmas and finally used it. Good choices for eating and a nice rotating beer taps. We shared a appetizer and a club sandwich which is my favorite one so far. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Will return.... pubsgrubbeer.com

Excellent tabor area restaurant and bar

By guerrila |

This place is an awesome neighborhood secret. Does great as a brunch spot. There is always a line across the street for brunch but this place has better food and friendlier staff. Food is awesome and drinks are as well. Highly recommend!

A Good Local Eatery

By rockhound94 |

Were were 11 people and got there about 6 p.m. We replaced a family that had eaten and were waiting for their check. When we were seated, the server was right there with menus. She brought water and then took our drink orders. They have a good selection of beers and a modest selection of wines. They have a somewhat creative menu for a local place but this is Portland where every one is a foodie. The kids ordered off the kids menu, two fish & chips with minted peas, one mac & cheese and one cheeseburger. I had a blue cheese burger with arugula but no brioche which is what the burgers are served with. It was slightly overcooked but still tasty.Others had spicy fried chicken and bbq pork chops. We were filled and quite happy when we finished. There are picnic tables outside an tight but comfortable seating inside. Children must be seated before 7 p.m. and out of the restaurant by 8 p.m. The bar takes up a fair amount of the inside room. They serve brunch on Saturday and Sunday and serve lunch during the week. It's a pleasant place for a meal. The servers are quick but never intrusive.

Great local place

By Jacqueline B |

There's something special about helping the local economy, and this is a great place to do it. This casual neighborhood restaurant/pub has a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, and the food was outstanding. My lamb burger was excellent, and my friends swear by the smoked gouda mac-n-cheese. I look forward to returning next time I'm visiting from the east coast.

Delicious & vibrant

By JenGwin |

I met a friend here for lunch for the first time and was quite impressed. The service was friendly and attentive. We sat outside and never wanted for anything. We ordered the deviled eggs and pickle plate first. The nice variety of pickles were sour and crunchy. The eggs were creamy with a strong herb flavor. I had the quinoa and corn salad with tofu, flavorful and filling. My friend had the turkey sandwich, thick with fillings on nice fresh bread. I was very pleased and will certainly be back.

Very nice local comfort food

By C F |

I went here with some business associates. They serve great burgers and excellent fries. I had the classic burger and it was very tasty. One of my associates ordered the lamb burger and he really enjoyed it. Nothing really fancy but good quality food. I didn't get to try their beer selection but it looked very good.

Awesome find! Creative menu

By Emily G |

I recommend this tavern very highly! It's creative menu was delicious but not overly priced. They features a red cabbage bleu cheese soup that was amazing!!! Fun beers on tap too. Our server was great! The decor is very cool yet not over done. Enjoy!

close quarters/great food

By Kathy B |

The brussel sprouts appetizer is really good as is the fish and fries. They also have an interesting beer selection. The reason for very good instead of excellent is because the parking lot is small you have to drive around until you find a spot along the road. And the tables are very close, not the place to go to have a personal conversation. Great neighborhood homey feel.

Yum!

By Harpers4 |

My family went for an early dinner and to try the poutine,we ended up with poutin, spaetzle, and brie cheese with bacon jam and toasted candied almonds. Really enjoyed all of our dishes. Great local Tavern, lots of beer choices, good food, great service.

Neighborhood style setting with great food

By Nathaniel K |

The beer selections on tap are always good, especially whatever they have on nitro at the time. The fried chicken sandwich and fish & chips are musts.

Shocked . . .

By RN2CRZ |

Have been to Tabor Tavern several times. The Tabor Burger is delicious with the bacon jam and bleu cheese. Been there with friends and they have really liked some of the unique soups and fish and chips. Good atmosphere although it gets loud when it is busy and it is hard to hold a conversation. Service has been hit and miss. More often than not, have to ask for drink refills. Pricing is a bit high, but since the food is good, I am willing to pay for it. However, had a very shocking experience tonight. Went in and had some Happy Hour food and stayed for dinner. Was getting very busy. Our plates were cleared away and our check was brought to us. We were not asked if we wanted anything else. My friend would have liked another glass of wine and I wanted dessert. Oh well. After paying the check, one of the staff stopped by the table and said "I don't mean to rush you, but we are getting quite a long wait for tables and it would be appreciated if would leave if you are done." I was shocked!! I have never been asked to leave an establishment and I have never been given a check before I was ready. I asked my friend if she had ever had something like that happen to her as she is very trendy and hits all the "cool" spots in town. She was shocked as well. Needless to say, I won't be going back and won't be suggesting Tabor Tavern to anyone any more. Should have known something was up when I saw one of the wait staff go out to the street and park her car right in front of the restaurant. Guess they want to make sure lots of people are moved through the restaurant and don't want parking to be readily available.

Go-to for best burger

By Anne Marie L |

I love this place. The Tabor Burger - with BACON JAM!!!! Is the best in town. It's my go-to spot for lunch meetings (awesome soups and hardy salads). Dinner with friends and family fits every age & appetite. We always get an order of Fish & Chips for the table. Brussel sprouts, too. So so good.

Their chef is a Genius!!!

By Trent_Craig |

Tabor Tavern is a go to spot in Portland. It was our first visit to this restaurant and was recommended to us by my friends friend. From the moment we entered we were warmly greeted with a smile from all the staff. The restaurant has a warm inviting atmosphere with rustic decor complimented perfectly with modern accents. The booths are super comfortable as well. Our server Andrea was fantastic, providing great recommendations from the menu which provides a great variety to choose from. When we enquired about the house's special bacon Jam, Andrea brought us a sample, it was glorious but I'll get back to that later. Andrea's service continued to be exceedingly friendly and exceptional throughout the entire meal. Based on Andrea's recommendations I ordered the smoked gouda Mac n Cheese, my friend had the chicken pesto sandwich with the Kale cesarean side salad and we ordered a serve of pountine to share. The food came out quickly and was a good portion size. Each dish was perfectly cooked and the flavour was incredible. Their chef is a culinary genius in their pairing of ingredients which all blend together perfectly. The bacon jam pair beautifully with both the burger and my mac cheese. 5 star service 5 star food 5 star restaurant Do yourself a favour and check this place out! I will definitely return next time I'm in Portland.

Fabulous burgers--lamb and beef!!

By Rebecca H |

Tabor tavern is a neighborhood Comfortable place. They tend to be quite busy during prime time; but the food is consistently delish!! We just bought several jars of their infamous "bacon jam" for stocking stuffers:) Highly recommended!!

decent little place to stop after work

By LaraDavis |

as far as Portland, OR goes, this place is average, which is not to say it isn't good! the service was good, the food was good, and the drinks, while I felt were overpriced, were good. the atmosphere isn't conducive to a good date night, but maybe a first meet, or a happy hour after work. I wouldn't HIGHLY recommend it with all the other options in the area, but I would go back.

Okay

By JanCado |

Service was great, food was just okay. Being from the Midwest I can't appreciate the West Coast menus. I did not find a salad on the menu that was appealing. I ordered a classic hamburger, but had to request tomato. Pickles had a strange flavor. There is a large beer menu for you beer drinkers!

Wonderful food terrible service

By Kelly M |

The first time we went there the waitress was very attentive and friendly. The mac n cheese was delicious as was the hamburger. The second time we went they had extra wait staff that just huddled in the corner and ignored the customers. We were sitting at the bar but no one offered us a second drink or asked how our food was. We were satisfied with the food and decided that they were just having an off night. We went there a third time. We brought a guest and told them how nice this bar was and raved about the food. We sat down and ordered our drink and food. After we put in our orders they ignored us. They had a full staff that again congregated at the end of the bar. Since we were sitting at the bar we asked a waitress that was closest to us if we could order a second drink. She said,"If you want something you need to take it up with that lady." and she pointed to our waitress at the other end of the bar. Then she went over to our waitress and her other waitress friends and visited for what seemed like 20 minutes. This place has so much potential but is incredibly disappointing.

BEST SURPRIZE IN PORTLAND

By JIM O |

Looks like a bar but is has excellent food, great service and good location. We have beedn there 3 times in our infrequent visits to Portland. It is always a pleasure.

Consistency good food and rotating tap selection

By 36cjw |

The not so new, one year old, neighborhood eatering/pub. The farm to table menu are good eats. And becoming suprisingly better and better. Beer selection always from local breweries. Friendly staff, on bus route, bike racks, and parking. Outdoor seating too. And a bonus for us - it's walking distance.

Tried something new, wonderful surprise

We were returning home from Portland nursery and found this on trip advisor. Beer for my man and some nice eats. Fun menu.

This is a great little place for brunch. Very good variety of food options for both carnivores and plant eaters. Give it a try.

Great Meal

Was told about this place by a local we knew, we had Tabor Burger that was recommended and delicious, curry wurst along with some watermelon gazpacho which was spicy and refreshing. Also enjoyed a pineapple flavoured cider

True neighborhood gem

By Nredra |

In a town known for great and creative food, you can sometimes still be surprised. This friendly Tabor neighborhood restaurant and bar serves amazing food. My wife and I had dinner there last night for the second time - and we are always blown away by the simple yet amazing food. Everything is local, handmade and delicious. I ordered the flat iron steak with horseradish mashed potatoes and fried pickled onions. The flavor combo was unbelievable. My wife swears by their salads. Our waitress was fantastic and accommodating of every need. The owners are hands on and make you feel like a local - even if you are not. We loved sitting outside and watching life go by as we enjoyed amazing food and drink. Do not miss this great place - can't say enough about it.

Good place for lunch

By globeseeker007 |

We stopped by here for lunch after visiting the statue of Paul Bunyan which is close by. The food was very good.

Drink but Don't Eat

By Katie M |

Tabor Tavern is in a location that was previously a Pan-Asian family restaurant. A total renovation has erased all traces of this, and the building is attractive inside and out. Of course, we had to try it. They have fair service, although we did get "hipsterred" with one of those uninvolved interactions with wait staff that one occasionally has in Portland, and as a bar it would meet the needs. However, we ordered a full meal, from appetizer through entree, and every food item had a problem. When we mentioned it to the server, she agreed that the food "needed work". I would give it one more try because it's in the neighborhood, but feel pessimistic.

Evening meal

By 178Bean |

This place was recommended by our Air BNB. We sat outside on lovely evening. Service was quick and efficient with a good range of food and drinks. Car parking available next door.

good food/drink in relaxed pub setting

By Rebecca H |

Our neighborhood is blessed with a great new family friendly (till 9) restaurant/pub called Tabor Tavern. The burgers--lamb and beef are outstanding!! "Tabor Burger" might be the best my husband and I have ever tasted!! They have some innovative Sunday Brunch options-- a scramble with yukon&sweet potatoes, roasted garlic and kale--topped with a drizzling of poblano aioli. Yum!!!

Great food and service

By mzkarecontrer |

We came at dinner time and still found a table, rare in Portland. I had the pork belly, and almost cried it was so good. A casual place with good food and service.

From a Brit,,,,, great Fish and Chips,

By josh |

Ok,, cool pub, great beers, love the lighting- un-fussy ambiance. I have eaten a few dishes here,, beet salad is ace, burgers,, YES,,, and their fish and chips as you will see by the photo is very good. My only gripe- which is nothing really is that the pub likes to garnish with lemon zest and not a wedge of lemon,,, simply ask for a wedge,,, you even get malt vinegar to go with their hand cut chips!

The Best Hamburger in Portland

By Cheryl W |

This is my favorite burger joint. The bacon-butter adds some magic to the burger that I have not found anywhere else in town. They will also cook your burger rare, if you are in the mood --with requisite warnings, of course. Their french fries are real fried potatoes and not that processed potato-food e.g. "crinkle-fries". They offer a fine array of beer on tap, as well as various ciders. Tabor Tavern is family and kid friendly, and a very warm and relaxed environment. If you don't want to wait, go before 5:30 PM or after 7:30 PM, or grab lunch there.

Lunch

Awesome burgers and fries. Great Service. Great beer selection too. Had Tabor burger so good. Garlic parmesan fries yummy.

Great Neighborhood Experience

By JLDCA |

The menu changes often and it is always good. Inside or outside seating, the service is very friendly and reasonably fast. They always have interesting soups and the mac and cheese is excellent. I have never had a reservation here but the wait is usually short. It also is open later than most places for dinner. The one dollar scoop of sorbet is a great way to end dinner and not feel too bad about yourself.

OUTSTANDING FOOD!

By Bari Tom |

This neighborhood hotspot has excellent food and very attentive service. About 15 minutes from the airport, it's worth the drive! Try the poutine (add the pork!), the Tabor burger, or the lamb burger. The soups & salads (had by others in my party) were awesome too!

Delish

By Richard |

Really relaxing, neither crowded nor sparse tavern with great food, and a great beer selection. If there's a fried chicken sandwich on the menu, get it -- the ones there are the best I've had. Otherwise, the fish and chips is a great choice. I've only been here for lunches, but would love to find time in the evening eventually.

Awesome brunch

By EvaJade0616 |

We were planning on trying the vegan breakfast place but where short on time and ended up here. Definitely not disappointing.. their specialty drinks were Delicious. The eggs benedict with smoked salmon was truly divine. I would highly recommend it!

Really good food and drink at the neighborhood tavern

By Annie A |

First visit for me but the family I came with live in the vicinity and eat here fairly often I think. I had a burger, cooked to perfection with really good fries. One of my companions had a huge piece of fish that he inhaled. He said it was haddock. It must have been pretty good. The server was very good. All in all, an excellent lunch experience. I will probably go back when I can.

Yummy Lunch

I've come here with friends 5 times thus far and I plan on coming back. Each time I tell myself I'm going to try something different but every time I come in I go back to the burger menu. I love their burgers and fries! Most of the other items on the menu look really good also and I've had tastes of my friend's entrees but I really have to have the burgers. Oh by the way the wait staff are friendly and attentive and the interior of the place is pleasingly decorated.

Good brunch, good vibe

Brought by family and enjoyed a wonderful eggs benedicts in a quaint neighborhood hangout. Our Saturday menu was not overwhelming but provided plenty of options. It's not fancy. Just good food, good service in a friendly atmosphere. Worth giving it a try

Terrific Place

I like to meet friends here, it's such a great tavern, not too big and not too small. They always have a good selection of beers on tap and their menu contains many choices of which one cannot go wrong. The fish and chips, burgers, She[herd's pie are just a few of the best items. Lots of free parking and easy to reach on transit as well.

Delightful find!

This small tavern was within walkable distance from our vacation rental. The chef was competing for a James Beard Award and mixed porcini mushrooms with ground beef for a delicious burger. There were also plenty of craft beers on tap. Great place to chill with a beer and some good food! It isn't fancy, but the service was great.

Bacon Jam & Brussels Sprouts

Planned to meet a friend here for happy hour, but missed HH by just a bit. Either way was pleased with the food and service. The place filled up super fast for a Monday night, and while they were showing Monday Night Football on TV, that didn't seem to be the draw for this restaurant. I noted that many folks were there with their families, including some young children. I would say judging by the size of most of the parties, it's a very good place for groups, and the restaurant allows you to seat yourself upon arrival. There is a good selection of beers on tap written on the chalkboard wall. They also have a long list of cocktails available as well. We stuck with our usual drink of choice - Boneyard IPA. We started off with appetizers, the pretzels and Brussels sprouts. There were two medium sized pretzels that came on the dish, and it came with spicy mustard - which ended up being much too spicy for me to eat, though I did try it a few times. The Brussels sprouts were very good, covered with bacon and perfectly cooked. Following the appetizers we both had the tabor burger and fries. The bacon jam and bleu cheese on the burger really put it over the top. The fries were also very good, didn't taste greasy or oily like some places can be. Our server checked in with us often and made sure that we were doing good on our drinks and food. I look forward to coming here again to try more items on the menu. Definitely enjoyed this place, it didn't seem to be too noisy and we were able to keep up a conversation in our booth and had a great time.

Everything we cannot eat due to health and lifestyle modifications looked ok. Most of our restrictions are truly health, so the consequences tend to be blaring when we deviate. The only choice was salad. We eat a lot of salad. We have never dined anyplace where the service so steeply lacked any level of knowledge of health and lifestyle choices different than fried meat, taters, bread, dessert, alcohol nor was there any effort to help us find appropriate choices. Even when we've traveled in the deep south, known for fried, it's been better. "Look at the menu and let me know what you can eat," said they server as she turned her back on us and walked away. This is Portland, Oregon! Known for being the easiest, healthiest place to dine, um, except here. Something for everyone? Nope. Effort and Service creating a pleasant experience anyway? Nope. We do eat fish and chicken, but the choices were for deep fried, breaded foods or put it on your (you guessed it) salad. Yucky dressing. Great for people who like processed foods, deep fried bready choices, alcohol. It's kind of fast food in a slow food environment, I guess. The conversion of the space is very nice. It is an old building with kitschy updates - very predictable. One shot only, not going back

Good beer, reasonable food

Good beer, reasonable food, reasonable service but doesn't have that much of an atmosphere. I couldn't quite pin down why but it didn't quite work for me (p.s. my wife disagreed).

Different and Good

I had a burger, and it was really good, and my husband had a turkey sandwich. I tried the bacon jelly that comes on the burger, and I liked it, it was an unusual condiment and worth a try. The service was great; the soup was too salty to eat (tomato basil, I believe), and that was disappointing, since it was a rainy soup-type day. We asked the waitress to try it, but she never did, or she would have known what we meant.

Neighborhood eats. Great food! Our party had pork Verde chili, lamb burger, smoked salmon, and kale salad. We all enjoyed our entrees, drinks and desserts.

Fabulous and refined pub grub.

Tabor Tavern is pure excellence. Get the Tabor burger, you will be changed for the better. Friendly people, beautiful and bright space, great beer and crafted cocktails, and really, seriously good food. This is the pub you want in your neighborhood wherever in the world you may live.

Great service, excellent food

Met a friend for dinner and drinks. He had the Mac and Cheese, which I tasted. Probably the best I’ve ever had. I had the Kale Ceaser salad, which was excellent. Great place for dinner and conversation over drinks. Highly recommended.

Creative food and communal atmosphere

Tabor Tavern has a wonderful communal setting, good food choices and impressive tap list. This is one of our favorite neighborhood choices for brunch/lunch. Great for couple and friends.

great burgers, fine beer.

People came in cars and on foot, with tots and without to enjoy the food and libations 2.5 miles east of the Willamette River. The traffic by was inobtrusive to sporadic on Saturday at noon on a major city street. They have nice sidewalk tables with umbrellas to protect from the sun. The Tabor Burger was great. They also have nice specialty cocktails although I opted for a grat beer. It was nice on a great PDX day.

Accommodating & delicious!

Tabor Tavern was a last minute decision for my party of 7. One of our members was going to be late, and the server was able to perfectly time our appetizers, drinks and entrees. The food was outstanding & they had a great wine special on happy hour.

It's more of a restaurant than a Tavern but has good beer on tap

By RSNN |

I drive by this place on Burnside all the time and have woundered what kind of taver it is. So today I dropped in for a beer. It was a wet Sunday afternoon. About 2 PM and it was very crowed. all the booth and tables were in use. So I went to the bar and sat on one of the round stools. I asked the woman behind the counter what kinf of beer they had. She told me that they are all listed on the board on the west wall. I scanned the beers they have on tap and one caught my eye straight away. Nitro Oskar Blues Coffee Porter. I love dark beer so that is what I just had to try. Cost was about $7. It had a very good taste. On the walls there were several black and white photos of old times. Most of them had trolleys in them. And one stood out for sure over to the left side of the bar. It was a huge black and white photo of the Mt Tabor trolley in four sections. making it look like a photo mural. There are also two TV screens. Benches outside the front windows for outdoor seating. By the time I finished my beer the tavern was thinning out and many empty tables and booths. I must have dropped in at the tail end of the Sunday Lunch crowd.

Best mussels in town!

Tabor Tavern is one of my favorites places to go in Portland for happy hour/dinner. Their menu offers something for everyone and their curry mussels are the best I've had. Service is excellent, atmosphere is inviting and cozy. I would highly recommend Tabor to anyone.

Met with a friend for dinner on his suggestion. Glad I did, right in his neighborhood. Had the fish, very good, serious sized portion, good menu and service. We got there early, 5ish, glad we did, by the time we left, there were people waiting for a table!

A neighborhood tavern/bistro I'll come back to!

By Virpilosus |

I went here as the guest of a buddy...I had passed this place numerous times but never had the "right time" to stop in to investigate. It has (had...now it's too cold) outside/sidewalk tables, and for Portland that's always a nice draw. However, since it's now pretty much wintry, the outside tables are gone, and we went inside. First impression: GREAT, "cozy" tavernish atmosphere, one large, rectangular room, with a handsome bar tucked along the back wall; tables and booths seating, perfect lighting, neither too bright, but not that dark-n-gloomy look...cheerful and homey, maybe? The server came right over, very friendly, big smile...and offered water and drinks choice first, and returned ASAP with menus and "the specials". The menu is not large, but everything on it brought a little "yummy" to my mind. I ordered a nice pilsner (fave style) to soothe my slaked throat, and that made the choice of a "tavern favorite," fish and chips, almost a no-brainer. What intrigued me about the menu description was the fish...haddock; not cod, not pollack, not halibut. OK, something a little offbeat? It came to the table, and once more, a suprise...it didn't "look like" what I expected, i.e., a number of separate, breaded or battered pieces of fish. There was one ENORMOUS piece of fish, looking like a complete fillet, beautifully presented, all flaky, battered and crisped, on top of a mound of rough cut chips. Alongside were the minted peas and the two containers of dipping sauces, malt aioli and ketchup...for the chips? I LOVED the fish!!! Golly it was dee-lish, crisp outside and meltingly tender, moist inside, and a very mild white fish it was; haddock wins! OH, BTW, it was PIPING HOT-YAY! Ummm, I know this will sound weird, but I think it ranked with the BEST fish I have ever had in this particular menu item, FnC. OH, and the minted peas were wonderful too! They were "baby pea" size, perfectly "popping crisp,", and ever-so-slightly minty in the mouth...a wonderful accompaniment, and one I have never seen/tasted with FnC before. Overall, the Tabor Tavern is a definite return to try something else place for me; great atmosphere, good service, good food and drink...what more can I ask? Reasonable prices? Oh, yeah, THAT too! Enjoy!

Nice little neighborhood pub

By Ariella35 |

I am a long time North Tabor resident, so it's always nice to find a new little local place within walking distance to try out. I had the opportunity to have a late night dining experience at Tabor Tavern last week on Tues March 26th 2013. We were in need of a late spot around 9pm for a bite following an event and Tabor Tavern beckoned. Do note that while it is family friendly during the daytime and early evening, I've heard since it's a bar, the law doesn't allow children after 8pm. No children in tow this time, so it wasn't an issue. I've also heard from friends and relatives that Happy Hour is nice too, though the wait can get long. We didn't wait at all this visit. The lighting and decor was fun and interesting in a hipster sort of way. We found a nice comfortable booth because it wasn't very crowded. I do have to say the lights were so low we could barely read the menu at all and I'm not so old I need reading glasses or anything! It was dark! I guess it can be a nice ambiance for late night dining, but we needed a bit brighter candle to read our food selections! The waitress was cheerful and very attentive. Our drinks, a beer and a sparkling wine were brought promptly. Being a vegetarian I was excited to see some menu items that I could sample. After deciding on the Veggie pot pie creation I was informed by the waitress that they had just sold out. Rats! So I pondered some more, and finally settled on a house salad with lemon shallot type dressing and their french fries. My friend had the shepard's pie. The service was speedy. My salad was really fresh tasting and no complaints. The french fries were absolutely delicious! I might have to go have some more of those sometime! The shepard's pie seemed tasty and put together well. Over all, for a late night last minute pub food experience we weren't disappointed at all. They were gracious and let us linger until nearly 10:45pm when they were closing up without making us feel rushed or kicking us out. I would venture back to the Tabor Tavern again to try other menu items which all seem reasonably priced and interesting, or a happy hour drink in the future. So far, so good. Welcome to the neighborhood!
