Family Run Restaurant

By Watchdogforworkers |

Nothing compares. Excellent pizza. Staff are familiar faces that stay for years and years and when asked will tell you they are very happy and love it here, with the exception of Fridays during lent, where is is so crazy you have to call in advance to “reserve your dough”. Wise to go any time BUT Fridays during lent. I love patronizing establishments where the faces are familiar and management takes care of their staff.

AMAZING Pizza

By Dwaine S |

My wife had been telling me about this place for many years. We finally decided to go there with some friends. Some of the best pizza I have ever had. We will NOT be waiting that long to go back. Go with friends, order some different pies, and try them all. But, do not skip the white pie...

Overpriced and not worth the wait

By kingfishtown |

Ordered 4 pizzas to be picked up at 6pm. Showed up promptly at 5:55pm and didn't received them until 6:45pm...bill totaled $70. Never again. Good pizza, but the pompousness and arrogance of the place made me sick. Go to the Tacconelli's in Cherry Hill instead.

WAy overpriced

By RudedudeNJ |

Small pies, One can easily feed a normal size person. Way overpriced for 50 cents worth or material. Extra cheese is normally regular cheese anywhere else in the country. So you are paying more again. Servers seemed arrogant. Pie tasted good just not worth the price or wait. or finding parking.

Best Pizza in Philly

By o484 |

If you want pizza in Philadelphia, I would definitely recommend this restaurant. I do wish they were a bit more convenient though.

A Hidden Gem most locals don't even know about

By Lampmode |

Who knew that in the Port Richmond section of the city was the best pizza I have ever had in the city. Tacconelli's won best of Philly and Glen Macnow's (radio personality) Pizzapaloosa! You have to call in your dough at like 11am on the dot if you even want to think about stepping inside for an old world brick oven pie. They sell out of pizza everyday and you need a reservation. This place is BYOB and everything else. We bring our own salad, dressing, bread, wine, and beer. Just no liquor allowed. The pizza is worth the call in and advanced reservations. It feels like your eating in someone's double wide row home and it is great. People come in with coolers of beer and wine, the best part aside from the pizza is that they don't ever ask you to leave. I lived in the city 5 years and 2 of the 5 in the next neighborhood over and it took me that long to find it. Now I am hooked. This is a find that some locals don't even know about!

Best service I've ever received

By lissamaym |

Our host wasn't as friendly, but when we sat down our waitress was lively and warm. We were going to leave to get more wine because it's a bring your own wine restaurant and we had 8 girls. Our waitress came out and gave us a bottle of wine so we wouldn't have to go through the hassle. It was extremely sweet and we felt at home and so welcome here. I recommend this place to someone wanting to visit Philly and have a wonderful experience!

Best pizza!

My husband and I make sure to stop here every time we are back in philly! We both love their sausage - I get the white pie with spinach and sausage - it is the best!

Very Good White -

By jealkon |

Tacconelli's has one of the best pizza's in Phila. Parking is not great but what can you expect from a pizza place in the city. The place doesn't look like much, but it's clean and comfortable. Pizza from a brick oven is like not other - the crust is thin, some of the pieces get a little burned but this just addes tot he flavor. With a choice of many toppings and white or red, you can't go wrong.

LOVE

By Mbl5687 |

In the city of brotherly love, I have fallen in love with this pizzeria. It's absolutely delicious and I can't get enough. I could probably eat their pizza 7 days a week and 3 times a day for breakfast, lunch and dinner. One must reserve your dough ahead of time and it is well worth it. This place is only open for dinner service and only serves pizza (made by one man) and soda. Tip, make sure to let the pizza cool, have patience as hard as it maybe... Otherwise you"ll destroy your mouth. But it might just be worth it anyhow.

Tacconelli's at the Sugarhouse Casino is not like the Original

By RMG4369 |

Visited the Tacconelli's in the Philadelphia Surgarhouse Casino. Ordered a Pizza Margherita (red sauce, basil and cheese; the sauce was garlicky). The pizza taste was OK but I've had better at the original location. I should have known something was wrong when the staff member said it would take 15 minutes to get my pizza. A pie in a gas domed pizza oven should only take 3-5 minutes (my experience). The oven was only set for 525 degrees instead of 700-900. The people making the pizza looked like they were just going through the motions without any passion or desire to deliver the food more quickly and with quality to the paying customers. This made the pizza mediocre. Not a good thing for the reputation of Tacconelli's.

Plan on long wait for service for pizza

By CindyKWarrington |

We had "reserved our 3 crusts" for 8:00 as we went to a 4:00 Phillies game. We got there at 7:40 and were seated by 7:50, which was great! We then ordered quickly, as we have our favorite pizzas from being there plenty of times in years past. We waited and waited and waited...The worst part was that the waitress and hostess did not care in the least. Our waitress seemed to avoid us at all costs, even though she had promised us another pitcher of soda, as she only had brought us a mini pitcher. At 9:10, the hostess's response was that there was always a wait. We were so touched by her chagrine for our situation! Finally, one pizza came out at 9:30, the second at 9:40 and the last at 9:50. We always loved their pizza, but at this point in the future, we are going to "Anthony's Coal-fired Pizza" --much closer to home-- and they value their customers!

mmmmmm...gives a new meaning to PIZZA

By Adrienne E |

Make sure to call early in the morning to reserve your pie(s). The variety of pies, the quality can't be beat

Call in your dough!

By bdjames29 |

Make sure you call the morning (11am) of your visit to order your dough and reserve a seat. If there are more than two people make SURE you order dough for at least 2 pizzas. We, my wife and I, ordered one dough and we both wish we could have had a few more slices. The menu consists of pizza and soda.....nothing else. The pizza is absolutely fantastic though We always seek out the best pizza places in every city we go to and Tacconelli's ranks among the best. I will say that it is not extremely filling.....thats why I suggest ordering two. If you're in Philly you should definately go!

My Favorite Pizza of ALL TIME

By mitchlamb111 |

You have to order your dough ahead of time, you can't just walk in and it's cash only. Those things aside, it's legitimately the greatest pizza I've ever eaten. My family goes there for almost every birthday, and always have. I put away 7 slices most recently. So much garlic, so much deliciousness. It'll keep the vampires away for a while!

Top 3 Pizza in my lifetime

By delpopolo18 |

I've lived in Italy for several years, eating pizza a few nights each week at various Pizzerias mostly in Rome. I've also enjoyed Pizzeria Bianco in Phoenix on many occasions (which has been widely declared as the best pizza in the US). Tacconelli's to me was right up there with the best pizza I've ever enjoyed - as a true, classic and simple pizza. Nothing but great flavor and perfect crust. I was only in town for one night, not staying nearby but driving down 95 when a friend in Philly told me I had to try Tacconelli's. The fact that it's only a few minutes off 95 is a bonus. A few things to be aware of - that I wasn't as a first time visitor: Cash Only, BYOB, and apparently you order your "pie" ahead of time. I was fortunate to arrive early enough when they weren't busy and they were able to squeeze me in without having pre-ordered my pie. One more thing - this is a place to go to enjoy the pizza- not the ambiance. I will definitely pull of 95 next time I'm driving through Philly to eat there again.

A Best of Philly - most unusual single-minded pizza place ever

By steveplotkin |

Tucked away in N. Phila. among row houses and challenging parking is this smallish looking pizza joint. But that is only on the outside; inside there is plenty of seating if you called ahead for a reservation. If not, forgetabout! The menu is singularly unique on 2 counts: one, no prices are shown; two, other than 3 varieties of pizza there is nothing else to order. Of course you can get toppings, but no soup, salad, sandwiches, beer, liquor (BYO) etc. What a unique and simple business model for this restaurant in its third generation! Yes, getting to the pizza - absolutely perfect and delicious. No excess oils or grease. Just right - similar to thin crust. Wonderful.

It can't handle it

By peter n |

The place seems humble and family style. But it really is the best and they know it. I tried to order too many toppings but was sternly warned that the crust "couldn't handle it". I swallowed my pride and then the best pizza I ever had.

Reserved Pizza Dough Gimmick

By Bajoba |

Some love it, I'm so-so. They've got a good marketing thing going on with the reserving your dough ahead of time. Four son's at Kensington & Allegheny (significantly dicier neighborhood) has better pie in the 1 mile radiuus - with a rocking cheesesteak & french fries pie too. Caccia's has better tomatoe style pies (like Trenton, NJ & Norristown, PA).

The best pizza ever

Call early and reserve your dough. Bring a great wine/beer and a salad. Order on extra to take home. You will not be disappointed. Leave an extra beer for the staff.

Best of Philly

By SuperRay |

Simply the best pizza in Philadelphia. So good and popular that you've got to pre-order your pizza a day in advance. Don't miss out on a truly great pizza experience.

Excellent pizza poor service

By Jrsygrl75 |

Each and every time we come we have a reservation. Does that mean anything? Nope. A Sunday night alone an hour plus for the pizza to even hot the table. Granted four pies costs a pretty penny . Service is always poor. It's never prompt and never overly friendly. Ever. Now, the good news. You must pre - order your dough. Only max two toppings. The crusts is delicious and crispy right out the brick oven. Love the marghertia and the sausage and sweet peppers! The soda is pitcher or cans. It's a small location. Cash only but an atm is on site. It's worth the pizza but order it to go. Save the headache.

Worth the schlep

By Nancy B |

I love my pizza with a thin crust -- and this one was very good. It was my first time there: I went with a bunch of veterans who knew to pre-order their crusts and just exactly what [simple] toppings they wanted. Exotic? Not here. Not even close. Just good, basic, homemade pizza. BYO beer or wine.

Worth the wait

By picklefart |

Jendamo..the area is port richmond if your from the area there is a debate on the boarders (grey area actually known as flatiron) diehard fishtowners say york st and others say lehigh either way this is past lehigh and 100% richmond. its the only place we buy our pizza, my father, his father and so on. Its delicious, its perfect really. The white with spinach and tomato is the best hands down. if I was on my way to the chair id order 2 pies and be satisfied with how my life turned out:-)

Pizza at it's best

By John K |

They serve the Brick Oven Pizza you can bring the Antipasto, the beer and wine and the date if needed. The rooms get filled up quickly and it can be tight seating. You will likely meet someone you know since they come back to the neighborhood and bring people from all over the city. They are in the 3rd generation and still going strong. The Pizza is quite a variety. I recommend the White Pizza with Spinach and tomato.

Not worth the wait

There are a number of pizza places, but there is only one Tacconelli's...

By linda h |

Tacconelli's has always been one of our favorite pizza places. We just celebrated our daughter's 16th birthday on Friday, and we couldn't have asked for a better place or a nicer time. We had twenty-five people and sat in the side room, comfortably and had the nicest time. The pizza's were delicious...people who never ate at Tacconelli's before loved it. The pizza is brick oven, thin, crisp crust with traditional toppings like pepperoni, sausage, cheese, but the absolute favorite...the spinach, tomato pie. It's worth the reservations, the drive, the wait, a definite place to put on your list if you haven't been here before. Thank you Vince, Rose, Sue, Dina for making our daughter's 16th birthday a success! We love your pizzza and your hospitality...

Delicious thin pizza with wonderful sauce, and a great atmosphere

By Mel |

We ordered two pies - one regular pie (with basil added), and a white pie with spinach. Both were delicious! My favorite was the regular pie, because the tomato sauce was so flavorful. In fact, despite not usually eating tomatoes, if we visit again we're going to go with the Tomato Pie (no cheese) b/c it was so excellent. The white pizza was great, too. Smoky, garlicky, and crunchy - not heavy with oil or cheese. We were originally going to take out, but decided at the last minute to eat in. I am glad we did - the atmosphere was friendly, and the staff we met were funny and kind. We felt at home. We wrapped up some leftovers to take home, and they were still wonderful reheated in both the microwave and the oven. We will definitely be visiting again on our next visit, and probably order a whole extra pie b/c the leftovers were so popular at home!

You have to order your dough in advance, and it's well worth it.

By Shannan22 |

I called three days before we went and ordered our dough, which is what we were told you have to do in order to get the pizza. And make sure you make a reservation. They are pretty strict with what you can order. They have 5 different varieties of pizzas and then around 8 different toppings, and they limit you to 2 toppings per pizza (pie). And make sure you leave plenty of time for this dinner. There were 4 of us and we thought it would be fun to order 4 pizzas, and split them all and have left overs. Each pizza came out separately, and about 30 minutes apart. So it ended up being about a 3 hour dinner. Now, the fun part? It is BYOB! You can bring your own beer and wine, so come prepared and plan accordingly. It is a fun night out. And the pizza is unlike anything else. It is thin crust and absolutely AMAZING. SO GOOD!! And don't ask for ranch if that's your thing...they don't have any dressing.

Great thin crust pizza

By schmutaki |

All they do is pizza. And they do it quite well. And soda. We’ve been wanting to come here for quite some time and it did not disappoint. We made a reservation and reserved dough for two pies. We had a margarita and a regular pie with spinach and sausage. Both delicious. Thin and crispy. Lots of sauce. Perhaps a bit too much. Place gets busy but it does not feel crowded. Service is very friendly. We really enjoyed this place. There are few places around with better pizza. We were not aware but when we left we noticed there is a small parking lot a few blocks away for the restaurant. Otherwise parking is tight.

Neighborhood Gem

By jnice817 |

Went here tonight for the 1st time. We had a regular thin crust brick oven pizza with sausage, sweet peppers and mushrooms. It was absolutely delicious. We enjoyed it so much that we ordered another one to take home with us. Service was very friendly.

Simply the best

By sdr138 |

order the tomato or white pie. Most people will eat 4 to 5 pieces since they are so small. I have had thousands of slices of pizza. Good luck finding better.

Almost like in Italy

By Zebras |

If you haven't been, you have to go!!!! Tacconelli's is the closest thing to real Italian pizza..like the stuff you eat in Italy! It might be a pain to call earlier in the day but that's the only negative..it also contributes to the hype here. You call for your pizza and then think about it all day and the first bite is better than imagined. Plus it's BYOB, like you need another reason to go.

Dried out dough.

By Camper11061009544 |

Had been at Tacconelli's in Philly many years ago. Had the white pizza. Was excellent. Recently went to Maple Shade store. I ordered the white pizza. This was the WORST pizza ever. It looked and tasted of only dried out dough. No mozzarella, no garlic, no oil, nothing but dry dough. I could have made a better pizza. And I paid approx $15.00. I ate a couple of pieces and let my friend take it home. She threw it away.

Home atmosphere and excellent pizza

By Rozafa |

Place to eat pizza when in Philadelphia, make sure you book before you go. Expect to wait a bit and bring you own drink.

Pretty good, a little different, didn't love it

By joejkc |

I liked the sweet sauce, the cheese didn't have much flavor, and the blackened crust burnt flavor was unpleasant in spots, but the crust overall was just ok not great. Since you have to order pizza in advance, i thought it would be one of the better pizzas i've tried, but it was only average. It you are in the area you can give a try.

Best Pizza in the city

By Laura M |

There's a reson you have to call ahead to reserve your pies. Yes, it is that good. Prepare to wait - there is just one oven. Well worth the effort.

burnt, unflavorful pizza at overflated price and egos

By George R |

for my wife's birthday we thought we would try Tacconellis. It is the worst pizza and experience we've ever had. The pizza was burnt, and not very flavorful and the bill for one pizza was $29 without tip. So yes $36 for lousy pizza served on paper plates with plastic utensils and plastic cups for our very nice wine we brought with us. I don't understand all the rave reviews. We've been trying restaurants, delis, take out, food carts for 50 years in Philadelphia and this easily the worst food we have had with terrible service.

Wait,

By Squid |

Pie is good and juicy, crust crispy and tomato sauce flavorful Not a great pizza but good for a quick bite if you can tolerate the wait and calling to reserve your dough in advance. Menu is limited to pizza and different toppings

The Best Around

By Greg |

Tacconelli's has the best pizza around. The place doesn't look like much, but once you sit down and start eating you will be amazed. The thin crust is great and some of the combinations are great. I personally love the Margehrita and spinach and tomato. The service iis usually really good, but when it gets busy things can get hectic.

Fantastic pizza!

By hiker994 |

Thin crust pizza served hot and fast. You reserve the dough when making a reservation for your table. And then pick out your toppings when you get there. I went with a group of 10 we reserved six doughs. We had pepperoni ,white pizza, basil and garlic pizza ,two margarita pizza, and white pizza with garlic and tomatoes. They were all delicious and we ate every single Pizza! It's BYOB so you can bring your beer your wine your juice whatever you want to bring to drink. We had Prosecco and red wine they supply the wine glasses and the wine opener. Very reasonable our bill came to $105. This is a great place to bring the family or group of friends.

reserve me some dough

What a fun place, great pizza too!

By Lyn H |

We are new to the area, went with a group of regulars.Brought our own salad, wine and desert, since they only serve pizza. Pizza was great, simple super thin crust, baked in a huge brick oven ( ask if you can go see it, worth the visit). The place is tucked away in a row house in Philly, but parking is available around the corner. You have to call ahead and reserve your dough, they only cook what they have made.

BEST pizza in town

BEST pizza in town

Experience a unique pizzeria

By hgoldman77 |

You have to reserve your dough in advance, so call ahead. The pizza is created much the same way it was in Naples 100 years ago. Crispy charred crust, tomatoey tomato sauce, mozzarella that gets gooey and melty and delicious. Whether you're a Philadelphian or from out of town seeing the sights, if you love pizza and want to try one of the best outside of Naples, go. The neighborhood is gritty, quintessential Phillydogtown, too.

Nothing else matters.

By Bill M |

This IS the only Pie in town. Real brick oven old world style Pizza. The only other Pie close to this - I had to drive to Brooklyn for!

Brick Oven

By domboy347 |

this brick oven experience must be experienced. Thin crusted baked to a crispness that allows many of the toppings not to be over powered. Great atmosphere and only 100 pies baked. must order in advance to ensure a pie or two.

A little disappointed after all of the hype

By Noah H |

Maybe the problem was that we ordered two pizzas to-go? Maybe it was an off night? The mushroom pizza we ordered tasted like the mushrooms were from a can. They were very mushy and soggy. Otherwise the pizza tasted homemade, and had a nice uniqueness to it.

Epic Pizza.

By William P |

Awesome place for some epic pizza. I have only been here once, but the experience I had here was enough to make me give this awesome review for this place. Great pizza slices without breaking the bank. Had a great experience here and look forward to my next visit.

Best pizza I've ever had

By DimplesCIR |

Our group of friends are frequent customers of Tacconelli's. We love the pizza better than any other we've had. The crust is thin and crispy. Their white pizza is nice and garlicky. I love the sausage there. You can tell it is made fresh, and some busy fridays they have actually run out. My favorite pies are the plain red, white with spinach and tomato, white or red with sausage, and margherita. You can also ask for long hot peppers which are great with the pizza. They serve fountain soda and water but nothing else. No appetizers, salads, deserts or fries. But you are welcome to bring your own. In the past we have brought salad or marinated mozzarella. The servers are amazing women and so friendly. You have to reserve your dough the week you make a reservation. And you have to order what you reserved. Order more than you think you'll need because the crust is so thin.

Thin Crust Heaven !

By luv2travelafar |

It may seem ridiculous to have to order your crust 24 hrs in advance. But when you understand that Tacconnelli's only make 50 servings of pie dough a day you need to make sure you order enough. We love to introduce friends from out of town to this unique restaurant. Be prepared they only serve pizza and soft drinks, you can bring beer and wine, we also bring a salad and or an appetizer. We are not big eaters, so when we were advised to expect to eat 1/2 a pizza per person, I was skeptical, we did not have to ask for a doggie bag. It's a lot of fun to go with a group so you can try several different toppings. Go and see for yourself why Tacconnelli's is rated top 5 pizza parlors in the U.S.

Oh my pizza

By hcs922 |

Great pizza and many toppings to choose from. The crust is very good with the crisp crust and soft top. The sauce is very good.

Excellent Pie!!

By JosieNewJersey |

Love this place! You have to call ahead and "order your dough's (reserve how many pie's you want) and its a learning experience on how to order! My brother in law is the pro and now we are too! It is true tomato pie--thin crust, really well seasoned crust and if you want true tomato pie, you have to order a "white pie" with tomato's and then your toppings, sausage, etc. They don't like more than 2 toppings as it's too heavy. If you don't say white pie with tomato's you get red sauce! Love it--and its BYOB

Can't ever go Home

By rtrman |

I grew up in the neighborhood in the '50's. Tacco's was a treat to go to. We were back in Philly visiting family and went one night for dinner. Small and crowded with the wonderful smell of baking pizza pies. We ordered a white pie with tomatoes and onions that was superb, brought back many favorable memories. The Margharita was OK, but the sauce had a flavor that was not what I remembered. Would still go again, but for white pie only.

Unbelievable.....Wow!

By John L |

I used to live right down the street so I would eat this amazing pizza several times per month. I finally made it back last Friday and I must admit it was as good as ever! The crust is the thinnest you will find anywhere. The sauce might be the best Ive ever had. I tried the margerita with the basil it was by far the best basil Ive seen/had/smelled! It was so fragrant and tasted so sweet! The only pizzas that can compete with this are Papas, Salernos, Santillos, and Totonnos. Tacconellis is my sons favorite pizza and is surely one of mine! The staff are always VERY friendly. My record here is 14 slices!

Nice little restaurant. Fabulous pizza. Great service.

Still a good pie

By John F |

It's been famous along time - brick oven pizza - light thin crust - sometimes it is close to round - other times not - that makes it that more special - one of the best thin crust oven pizzas in Philly - ask to take a look inside the oven - you will see while the pizza peel is so long... and you still have to call ahead and reserve your pizza dough...but the prices keep inching up - being from the old school - I liked to go to Tac's when the Mom & Dad (Barb and Wingy - God rest their souls) were by the brick oven - somehow it just was better - still worth the trip!

Truly the best!

By KALKAT |

I bother my Philly family to go here every time I visit them--it isn't convenient, they only make pizza, but as the woman said in the film Mystic Pizza; "The BEST pizza!" Don't forget to "reserve your dough" or you'll be waiting with the other losers in the small lobby, but even then--WORTH THE WAIT!

Best in Philly

By Patrick N |

Tremendous pizza. Thin crust, perfectly cooked, delicious. You have to try the special that has spinach, tomatoes, garlic. Outstanding. BYOB that serves just pizza in the Port Richmond part of Philly. Street parking can be a challenge but they have parking lot a block away.

Best pizza.....next to Delorenzo's!!!!

really good but plan ahead as it's small and take out even sells out completely on weekends

By jaimelynnk |

call early, the pies are in high demand and actually sell out completely many nights. If you stand near the kitchen you can watch them pull the pies out of the original brick oven with the longest pizza stick you've ever seen, they're are usually alot of kids peeking so you'll know where to go.

Do NOT go there

By Kevin S |

This place is so overrated, you couldn't pay me to go there. Old man Vince thinks he invented pizza. They are to expensive for the sh** they serve.

Yes, call in advance to order your dough. You can bring in salad to eat with the pizza. I hear it is still great, and the original wood fired oven as far as I know , in Philly.

We will never return!!

By Nicole C |

Tacconelli’s Pizzeria was my family favorite place to eat in Philly. We went there last night and unfortunately the experience was the worse we ever had in a restaurant. It is sad because we truly loved this place, and now we will never return! When we arrived we had to wait 15 minutes because it was full. But the problems started when we were waiting in the line to get a table. There were some guys AFTER us, and with no respect of our turn they took over the table that was supposed to be ours – without any consideration whatsoever. When we complained to the waitress she simply said we had to keep waiting. Finally seated, we ordered, and what we had served was simply an insult. The pizza was not cooked at all. The crust was an elastic piece of flour with tomatoes on the top. We could not resist any more, and left the place after talking to the manager - whose response was “I am sorry. We will change your order but if still you want to leave you must first pay what you asked for!”

Best in Philly and only New Haven Pizza is Better

By BallparkBob |

It's not often that pizza can stand out from the rest, but Tacconelli's does. You have to order your dough in the morning as they only make so much. It's so good that you'll eat as much as you order and you won't be taking any home. Can bring a cooler full of your favorite beverages too which saves on $. It's the best pizza I've had outside of New Haven.

Great neighborhood joint!

By Brian M |

We took a mini-vacation in Philadelphia, and decided ahead of time to try the pizza at Tacconelli's. True to form, the pizza was good... thin crust, spicy sauce, hot out of the oven... and the atmosphere was great. If you are staying in downtown Philadelphia, as we were, this is a great opportunity to get out and see the real city. The restaurant is in a blue collar neighborhood filled with row houses and on-street parking. The waitresses were busy, but friendly... two of them provided service to the 15 or so tables in this small pizzeria. A couple of notes... they don't serve beer, wine, or liquor, but feel free to bring your own in a cooler. Don't feel funny about doing it... everyone else does. Also, they only serve pizza, and only one size, but you can split toppings and even get half white and half regular if you wish. By the way, you must call ahead of time to make reservations for the pizza dough and the table. Finally, we didn't test it, but heard in advance that they don'f take credit cards, so be sure you have cash! Great Philly neighborhood experience. Highly recommended.

Don't waste your time

We ate here on Mar 19th 2011. Five of our pizzas were burnt but 2 were not. We showed the waitress the VERY black and burned ones, and she replied that it's just how the oven cooks them! Yet two of our pizzas had a perfectly cooked and unburnt crust. The mushrooms were canned; NOT fresh. Barely any cheese, watery sauce. They do NOT give free refills on fountain drinks! It was so HORRIBLE I had to write my 1st review ever of any restaurant. I have never before been so upset at the quality of a restaurant's food. BIG waste of time! Save your money. I grew up in Philly and all my family still lives there. All they serve is pizza, No salads nor pastas.... just pizza. I was happy with the menu but my wife wishes they'd have offered something else aside from pizza. I was happy with the menu, but VERY disappointed with the food. Yuck. I LOVE PIZZA and would NOT eat there again even for FREE! Oh.. I am a HUGE pizza fan and have almost never had a pizza I didn't like; until now.

Absolutely the best anywhere

If you like crispy pizza with great tomato sauce that has an incredible flavor you will like Taconelis. It is worth the trip form anywhere in southeatern PA, Delaware or South Jersey. be sure to call and make a reservation or they will not have enough sheels for you. And I asked and found the secret ingredient from the chef---LOVE

Taconelli's pizza

I heard a lot about this place but I thought the pizza was only Average. Place is over rated in my opinion

Reserve your dough?...

By J-DobleVe |

Yep. A pizzeria that makes a limited amount of dough daily and requires you to call ahead and reserve it must take the pizza pretty dang serious. Been here twice and have walked away full and happy both times. A little out of the way but well worth it. I like the atmosphere. I like the neighborhood's personality. I love the pizza.

Still the best!

Hadn't been back in 10 years, but wasn't at all disappointed. So, so good. Got a regular pie with pepp and a white pie. Yummmmm!

Love this little place

By Amy S |

Was taken here by a friend who lives in Philly. What a great place! Homeade Brick Oven Pizza. So good!!! Just a few tables. You have to call ahead to order your dough and they get quite busy! Small little shop, BYOB. We had spinach and also a Basil and Garlic pie. Can't wait to go back. Little gem in Philly.

Reserve Your Pizza before you go

By JLDCA |

The absolute best pizza in the continental United States, period. You cannot show up without having reserved your pizzas, you will still wait for a table though. The very thin crust means you can eat a lot and you will want to. Order both red and white pizzas---they are an experience. You can bring your own beer in if you want, they do not serve beer. This is an institution.

Just so good

By mcgon4 |

If you just want good thin crust pizza- make the trip to Tacconelli’s. There are toppings - the sausage & prosciutto are recommended. You can bring in wine and/beer - there is soda also on the menu. You have to call in to reserve your # of dough for your visit. Cash only Friendly service - no frills- good pizza.

As Good as I Remembered!

By camtravel |

It's been about 10 years since my last visit to Tacconelli's Pizza. I was thrilled to find the pizza was just as delicious as I remembered. We will definitely not wait another 10 years to return! The crust is very thin -- my favorite and the ingredients and toppings are super fresh. Our favorites were the white pizza and the margarita pizza. We also had a spinach and mushroom pizza and the spinach was phenomenal -- nice and garlicky! This is a small, neighborhood, BYOB place. You do need to call ahead to reserve your dough. We called on a Friday morning and were told they had just about sold out on dough for Saturday evening. But, that was also the night of the first Phillies play-off game so maybe they were busier than usual? I'd strongly recommend this place to anyone who finds themselves in Philly and wants delicious pizza in a typical Philadelphia neighborhood setting.

The Best

Those few bad reviews? Ignore them. If you want fantastic thin crust pizza brick oven baked, it gets no better. No, they don't serve anything else, because they focus on one thing and do it to perfection. The people who work here are nice enough - this is a local pizza place- not sure what people are expecting. Not rude at all.

Don't Get The Hype

By ccresq |

The pizza is good, but not the best pie I've ever tasted. I'm guessing that the hype came from teh days when brick ovens weren't so common in pizza establishments.

Best Pizza in Philly

Simple yet perfect. No other pizza tastes like this. Crispiest crust ever. Be sure to order plenty of doughs ahead of time!

BEST PIZZA <microphone drop>

By GEARLEW |

I recently visited this place for the first time. My observations, the parking is brutal. We really lucked out and got a spot in close walking distance. The outside is nothing to write home about. The inside is nothing to write home about. The staff immediately greeted us with light humor and hospitably directed our party to side room. We ordered approximately 10-15 pizzas. Everyone ate the pizza and raved about it. My favorite was the red with spinach and I believe garlic. I don't even like onions and ate the onions and red pizza...it was so good. The crust is lightly crunchy and tastes like heaven. The ingredients are perfectly matched together. This is a MUST-VISIT place for area residents and those visiting the city. It's outside of downtown but well worth the taxi/uber ride. I strongly recommend you call Tacconelli's first before just showing up. I was informed they don't open until a little later and the oven can't bake the pizzas until it's had a chance to cool off a bit from being heated in the early afternoon. Overall, GREAT SERVICE...I do not know the two ladies who served us but they were extremely friendly and helpful, the pizza was SENSATIONAL. Thumbs up, high-five, 5 stars, 100% score, whatever rating system you want to use - forget it and just eat here.

Transcendent Pizza!!

By Ira S |

Yesterday I revisited a Philadelphia Gem. I forgot how amazing this iconic North Philadelphia Pizzeria is. To celebrate a graduation I and 6 others sat down for some serious pizza eating. In the Tacconnelli's tradition we brought our own salad, booze, and dessert. Their job is to supply the pizza and boy what a job they do. I have traveled far and wide and enjoyed pizza from New York to Venice and the Tacconnelli family's original place in Port Richmond, Phila sets a standard for pizza that transcends all other pies. All of us ate 6-7 normal size slices of pure delight and could have eaten more. Their oven creates a perfect light crispy crust, that is adorned with perfect tomato sauce and toppings if your choice. My favorites are their Margherita pie and their white pie with spinach and crushed tomatoes. When visiting Philadelphia put this place on your lists of musts. Pure ecstasy!

Way over priced.

By surfmurf |

Fed our family of 4 tonight and four pies and 2 pitchers of soda endedup costing 83.70. Pie is average all were slightly to very over burnt. Sauce is slightly sweet. This place is very overrated but with the likes of the competition they have a Devoted following that cannot be swayed like Wawa and Tastykake.

Best Pizza

By summitsvs |

It’s rare that I give a straight thru 5 star rating, but....Made a special trip out to this place and it was worth it! Thin crust pizza like no other I’ve had. Limit the toppings and enjoy the sweet tomato sauce on the regular pies and the tomatoes on the white pizza. BYOB and sides. Great history, great service. Just come eat this pizza! I know I will again.

Tacconelli's deserves to be on the list of great local pizzerias, just not at the top.

By Jim_Naughton |

Make no mistake: Tacconelii's makes a very good pizza... it's just not as great as its reputation, in my humble opinion. The cachet of reserving one's dough in advance adds to the mystique... but really does not add all that much to the flavor. It's more of a fantastic marketing idea, I think. We have enjoyed their pizza and I am glad we have tried it, but.... Pizza is simple to make. Key to good pizza is a very hot brick or brick-lined 800 degree oven; likewise tasty sauce and decent cheeses. I love a thin crust that is firm, fully cooked, crisp edged yet slightly al dente in the center. I like to roll a pizza in a slight U shape by depressing the center of the slice's crust while using other fingers to hold the edges so the sauces don't slide off. You can keep my share of the fancy toppings, though, I like a good cheese and tomato pizza, fresh basil if you have it. Everything else is just a variation on a theme, or a new twist, or a gimmick. You do not have to travel 100 miles from Philly to NYC for a slice of decent pizza. That's a sucker's game, though JOHN'S in the Village is good pizza, and FAMOUS RAY'S (or is it RAY'S FAMOUS) is/was a good place to enjoy Noo Yawk addytood while munching a slice. There are PLENTY of great pizzerias in neighborhoods all around Philadelphia and vicinity... and in no specific order just a few of them (in my own neighborhood) include: MARRA'S RESTAURANT on Passyunk Avenue SLICE on 11th Street at Federal SARCONE'S Bakery on 9th Street below Fitzwater (Sicilian style) LA FORNO on South Street LITTLE ITALY at 9th Street below Lombard FRANCO & LUIGI'S 13th Street at Tasker. At The Shore.. It's gotta be MACK'S in Wildwood; MACK & MANCO in Ocean City. In Rehoboth it's GROTTO.... I'm sure Philadelphians of old or new vintage can help make this a very long list indeed, and when they do make a list of excellent pizza joints, Tacconelli's definitely belongs on that list; just not at the very top.

$$$$ But worth it

By sullivaca |

Please bring your own drinks, this is a BYOB. At least when the bill comes it won't be as painful. The pizza is untouchable. Stands alone on the pedestal, better than NY's Lombardi's. Don"t go if you don't want this to be your kids favorite pizza!

Service sucks!

By Smd77777777 |

We were treated so rudely from the moment we walked in. They really do not appreciate their customers! Pizza also totally overrated! Would never go back!

A truly hidden gem!

By jenadamo |

We live in Jersey and went to Tacconelli's when my daughter was attending school in Philly. Her room mate is actually in the wonderful family who runs this place but that did NOT bias us at all. Our daughter graduated four years ago but we still make the trip back for this, one of the best if not THE best pizza we've ever eaten. Remember you have to call ahead (@ 11am) to order your doughs. Order at least two per person as it's THIN and SOOO delicious you will want a LOT! Another thing... Someone said it was in Richmond... I'm not familiar with this. We know this area as Fishtown. Great little blue collar neighburhood which will likely be gentrified soon. Then it will be really hard to get to Tacconelli's. But make every effort. You won't be disappointed!

Pizza

By bucks9911 |

The best pizza in the city of Phila. Nothing compares to the thin crust smothered with toppings of your choice. The margarita is hands down a favorite.

The BEST

By queenbee853 |

This pizza is by far the best I've ever had. In this area it is considered the Holy Grale of pizza. You have to order your dough early in the day or if you know you're going do it a few days ahead. If you call after 10AM and they do not answer, they are sold out and you are out of luck for that day. If you get there do order the white with tomato & basil. They have a number of toppings but I prefer the white or the Margharita which is more traditional. The crust is always thin, crispy and done just right. It is also a BYOB and you can have a small celebration there as well. They will accomodate you for a birthday party if you bring in a cake. If you go on a Friday or Saturday night be prepared to be there a few hours as the pizza is made ot order. The bottom line is: if you want a pizza Tacconelli's is worth ordering and worth the wait.

If you want the very best!

By Carl D |

Hands down the best pizza anywhere! The white pie is beyond description; thin crust, dry and crispy with unending flavor. You can't go wrong regardless of your selection. All made to order; in fact do call ahead and reserve your dough balls; they do sell out. Superb is an understatement; there are none that even come close!

Margherita pizza is the...

By Lawrence L |

Margherita pizza is the best!... but don't like the wait or the ordering ahead deal. I'm more of a spontaneous pizza eater.

Simply the best

By PaGuy2 |

You will hear people rave about Tacconelli's all the time, and it's for a reason. The vast majority of pizza in Philadelphia has very little character or flavor. Tacconelli's is definitely a home-made place and the super-thin crust is the perfect base for their amazing sauce, cheese and toppings. Try it! You'll never look at pizza the same again.

THE REAL DEAL, YOU FEEL " CONNECTED" EATING HERE

By PhillyRealtor19053 |

Pizza in its pure form. You have to call in advance and early!!!! to reserve your pie for pickup or eatin in the place. They only make so many a day and thats it, don't show up asking for a slice or expect to stop in and get a pie. If you order and don't show to pick it up, I wouldn't ever call again, lol. The oven is the best, The Pizza Peel or "Wooden pizza remover" is like 20 foot long to reach the back of the brick oven. It's Really Hot and quick cooking. So I don't get extra cheese or toppings cause it just isnt as incredible as the super thin plain or roni. Enjoy ! Keep this place between us though, or we will never get a pie again.

Overrated and underfed

By Arlene B |

The pizza is good but not out of this world. We went on Labor Day weekend so we were seated immediately with our reservations. I dont get the pre-order your dough rule since we ordered one more dough than we really needed. I also don't get the limited menu. Guests are encouraged to bring wine, beer and anything else you would normally eat like salad or dessert.

SUGAR HOUSE CASINO LOCATION GREAT FOOD OPTION, THIN CRUST PIZZA

By DJMAN5 |

Surprised and happy, Tacconelli's has a section in the Sugar House Marketplace Food Court. Thin crust our favorite, reasonable price for pizza and beers. Pizza is made per order and name called out. Short wait is well worth it. We would come back to Sugar House just for Tacconelli's, which is a neighborhood favorite.

Great Pizza - Order Ahead

By Gabriel |

Really good classic thin-crush pizza. Simple and delicious. BYO. Great for a night out with some friends or otherwise. Really comfortable and down-to-Earth. Enjoy the pizza. Just remember to save your dough by calling a few nights ahead of when you're coming in!

Its the best and I remember when we could just hang out there
