I could write a page but i won't. Bad service. Cold food that was mediocre at best. Owner looked miserable. Only good thing was the homemade tortilla. Guy Fieri if you want the best taco in America join me in Wink,Tx and I'll hook you up!! Pic is of my food not theirs!!

This place is certainly not fancy. It's in A very old building, and they have tried to make it new. The food is absolutely amazing . The cheese enchiladas are to die for. Nice lady took care of us. We really enjoyed our visit.

The breakfast here is quite good with a nice selection of hearty tacos to meet anyone's taste. BUT I didn't give it a higher rating because lunch was actually below average for San Antonio's Mexican restaurant. The chalupa was tired and there wasn't much on it. The guacamole was tasteless. What a shame that there lunch menu is soooooo much lower quality than breakfast. So, go for that first fling with Mexican food in the morning, but bag it for lunch.

Best time to go to this fine local Tex Mex dinner near downtown San Antonio is around 1:45 pm as any sooner you will wait outside as everyone loves to eat here. The owner a lovely lady still involved in providing great food and service. oh yeah great tortillas.

Open from 7-2. Breakfast tacos are delicious and are pretty big w/ homemade tortillas. Small restaurant so make sure you stand in line outside, on the side of the building otherwise you'll be in the waitresses way. Soo good and filling!

I didn't know about this place..We actually got here by chance, but the Mexican food at Taco Taco is at a different level...The flavors of tacos and enchiladas ( what we ordered) are one of the best I had in San Antonio...Nothing fancy, nothing expensive..the service was fast and easy...I highly recommend this place!!..can't wait to come back!!

Got ba k to san antonio last week and this is the first places I stopped. Locals eat here always. Try the carne guisada.

Taco Taco cafe was just like mom's kitchen! I had a simple breakfast of huevos rancheros, refried beans, fried potatoes and flour tortillas! The eggs were perfect! Not runny nor overdone. The fluffy tacos was not greasy and the meat had excellent taste.I can't wait to go back again!

We had breakfast there this morning. The chilaquiles were absolutely amazing. My kids had bean and cheese which I actually loved as well.

This is a popular place for breakfast tacos. The place fills up fast and the service goes downhill from there. The food was average but there was a lot of it. Locals seem to love it but I failed to see the big attraction. But who can argue with success?

I will always choose this place even if I have to wait awhile. Consistently serves up awesome TEXMEX all day. I also like they've it small & cozy over the years.

I was in the neighborhood and heard raves about the "Puffy Tacos." There's usually a line to get in, small dining area and not much parking. The service is friendly and good. I ordered the Puffy Taco and also 2 Beef Enchiladas. The Puffy Taco was tasty but messy (split out the bottom). The Enchiladas were really better. Maybe its a neighborhood gem. I'd go back, but not that great.

A bit out of the way but certainly worth the drive. Arrived about 1:00 on a Wednesday (they close at 2:00) and only one other group in the restaurant. The interior is dated but we came for the food and have found in the past these are some of the best places. The owner's help didn't show that day so she was running the whole place by herself. Wife and I both ordered a puffy beef taco and I also ordered an enchilada plate (2 beef enchiladas and rice and refried beans) to share. She also brought out a couple of fresh, hot, thick tortillas. Food understandably took a little bit as was all fresh but was delicious. We had a chance to talk to Helen about the visits from the celebrity chefs as well as President Clinton. She, like so many other businesses, is struggling with finding good, reliable help. Helen is a wonderful example of a small business woman and she provides an excellent food product and we certainly encourage others to come and try out her food.

We heard about Taco Taco on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. We drove the 1.5 hours from our home after church on a cold, windy day. We stood in line for about 1/2 hour visiting with others waiting in line. I ordered the cheese enchiladas and a crispy taco and they were pretty good. Not sure what all the fuss is about.

I was bored and had an app that listed places some guy on TV visits, and this place was near so I thought I would give it a try. And it was great. The homemade chips were great, as was the salsa (which has a latent kick, so beware). And I had the Puffy Tacos (corn, please, not flour) and they were two of the best tacos I have every had. There was crunch but they were warm and soft and I just can't tell you how good they were. OK, so I only had one thing on the menu, but it was a wonderful lunch, and when I am in San Antonio again, it is on the list.

I had the bacon and egg and it was great! They are a little bigger than normal but the bacon was crispy and tasty!! And the flour tortillas were the best (handmade and delicious). I definitely will be back.

Taco Taco used to be wonderful. In fact it was rather famous! But a recent visit was very disappointing. Bummer! Flavorless chiliquiles, cold egg tacos. Sigh. Guess it was my last visit. Sad.

As many have said before, Taco Taco's breakfast tacos are quite memorable. A great variety of fillings in wonderful flour tortillas, at very affordable prices make this a must-do stop in San Antonio.

We decided on Taco Taco since Pancitos (restaurant down the street was very crowed) way busy. This was the biggest mistake of the day. It was not our first visit to Taco Taco but it was our last. I remember this restraraunt being well managed and the food was delicious; ( I miss Neli) however, this mornings visit was horrible. We waited a long time just to get our coffee ordered....we decided from people suddenly leaving we enter into a mess. I began watching the clock when it took 5 minutes to get our coffee.. While waiting for service to order, we noticed several people waiting 5, 10 and 15 minutes just to pay their bill and leave. Long story short, 35 minutes was a bit long to wait for two tacos which did not make it to our table. When new customers came inside and sat next to our table, they saw the frustration in our faces, especially when I asked our server we had been waiting 25 minutes for two tacos. Then the customers started asking how long we were waiting. I told them the truth and as more people decided to leave, we decided to leave ourselves. In all we witnessed 13 people come and go without service. I walked up to the owner asked her I would like my check and pay for the two coffees! She looked at me with much surprised. As she was ringing up my bill and as I was holding on to my cash, I told her about the chaos, customers leaving due to bad service, the bad management and the wait we incurred prior to paying. Don't let the news articles, photos of Guy Fieri, and Good Morning SA fool you, it's a calculated marketing ploy to get you in the door. We went back to Ponchitos, waited for our table and enjoyed three delicious tacos in under 30 minutes!

Well we finally make it to Taco Taco on Hildebrand for breakfast on our way to drop off our daughter in law who is heading back to Florida. So she wanted one last Mexican food meal, so we got there, after seeing it on Triple D and reading all the reviews. We walk in and there are 3 people sitting there, great we beat the crowds. After sitting for about 10 minutes or so the waitress comes around to take our drink orders, mind you the place is empty and she had less than 10 steps to take to get our coffee. It took her 15 minutes, leaves, we wait another few minutes and she comes to take our order. It took our order to be delivered 20 minutes later and it was cold and my husband's eggs were undercooked. Another 10 minutes later our food comes back and you can tell it was placed in microwave to heat only. My eggs once I touched them were completely raw inside, the only reason I did not see it the first time, because I had asked for the sauce on the side but instead it was all over. So I sit there and lost my appetite, and trying to get the waitress's attention yet again. When she does come over my husband tells her his eggs are still undercooked as our mine. I ask her if she can remove my plate off the bill since I did not eat it. And she replied I would have to take it up with the cashier. By then my husband is complaining his food is yucky, the bacon was greasy and nothing but fat, the potatoes were from yesterday's batch and reheated. The tortillas broke in half once he picked it up, they were old also. Our daughter in law has by then stopped eating, her food was cold but she did not want to say anything but instead picked at her food. She only ate less than a 1/4 of the whole plate. We go up to the cashier who is the manager and I ask her if she would remove 1 plate off the plate and she said no, she prepared the meals herself and nothing was wrong with them. I replied oh really, then why are we 3 people leaving the plates full on the table? No apology was made, instead she gave us an attitude, never mind the couple who came in with their 2 year old daughter who had been sitting there 20 minutes waiting on service, and the place was not full!! I do not recommend this place, I found reading her reviews under Taco Taco, she only replies to good comments only. So for those who have never been, I strongly suggest you don't, this is not Tex Mex food at all, and beside all FOOD should be hot and not served cold and expected to pay for it!!

Went here for the second time, thinking our first visit might not have been representative of their title of "best tacos in America". Well, our second visit was worse than our first, so no improvement. We went late morning on a weekday, well past prime breakfast time. We were not greeted when we arrived, nor did we even see a restaurant employee for at least five minutes. And the restaurant was not crowded whatsoever. Finally, a waiter helped us. No personality, no excitement about his job. We got coffee in the smallest coffee cup I've ever seen in a restaurant setting. And we also got dirty silverware. My husband had to point out the dirty silverware and asked for clean ones. The waiter did not even inspect our other silverware. The menu itself is physically disgusting: dirty, faded. I felt I needed to wash my hands after ordering, but I did not want to have to go to the restroom after seeing the state of this restaurant. We ordered breakfast tacos. We had chilaquiles taco and papas rancheras. Again, some of the least impressive tacos we have ever had. A local BBQ restaurant chain makes better tacos than this supposed "best tacos in San Antonio". The best thing about the whole experience was the tortillas - thick and fluffy. The chilaquiles taco had no jalepenos, so therefore no spice. The rest of the egg, cheese, and chips in the taco was fair. The papas rancheras was also substandard. It was like an inexperienced cook added a can of chopped tomatoes to some cooked potatoes. The tomatoes completely overwhelmed the potatoes and had no spice. Horrible. We will not be back for a third try. It is obvious they have nothing good. The hot sauce was certainly not hot and nothing to speak of. There are so many better taco restaurants in San Antonio. I can only hope tourists don't fall for this false title and think this food represents the best of San Antonio. Someone needs to lead Guy Fieri and his crew to a better taco establishment.

It was a disappointment from my first visit several years ago when I was taken there by a local businessman. I couldn’t wait to take my wife when we were there is summer. I could have waited because waiting was the theme of the morning. No one seemed to notice that we were waiting to be seated and we finally sat down in a booth when another couple left. We were not the only couple with that idea. When we sat down, we had to finish wiping the table after flagging someone to move the dirty dishes. We also had to ask a server to wait on us when she delivered food to a nearby table. The breakfast tacos were at best ordinary and on the greasy side. For as long as it took to bring them after we ordered, you would think they would be much better. The only thing that was promptly delivered to the table was the check.

Oh my goodness! The tacos here were made in heaven or something. This California kid is partial to my own state's offerings, but I have to say this was even better - comparable to the Navajo Tacos at the now defunct Tuba City Truck Stop in Arizona. I shall miss these treats terribly. The service was friendly and down home-just like the people who live and work far away from the tourist areas.

Went here for lunch on a weekday because of awards and reviews. Husband and I both very disappointed with quality and taste of the food. Would avoid this place.

I want to say the breakfast tacos are great and the coffee is out of this world! However, I am a San Antonio native and had never come across an establishment that cannot accommodate a customer on what they're asking for. It was a simple request, one I honestly was only going to ask for once, and yes I had an alternative but I'd have to pay more, and why should I? Well, that said I'm sure I won't go back just for the coffee or breakfast tacos but they were good. If they decide to offer one chicken and one beef puffy taco plate, it should be called the Alice special haha. That is all. I had written this before the summer so last week my husband and I decided to go for breakfast, well now the service is awful. Our waitress acted as if the creamer for the coffee was coming out of her check! When I asked for more, she said "there's some right there", I told her I'm aware but we need more, we like coffee with creamer. Wow, and she was the trainer of a new waitress. Really?! Well, nevertheless we decided we will not be back. There are so many other choices and besides, the whole coffee experience is ruined plus the tacos we lacking this time.

Booked for brunch for a friends 30th. First called to tell them we were running 5 minutes late, however one of my friends had arrived and was met with a sigh that not everyone had turned up yet (again let me remind you we made a courtesy call to explain we were running 5 mins late) Positives - The food came out fast - the portion sizes are huge! Back to the biggest issue - THE STAFF! Unfriendly, unhelpful! Not one member of staff asked was everything ok with our food, did we want anymore drinks, did we want desert. Instead once we had finished a last sup of a drink or bite of a plate they cleared it from us - giving us the vibe constantly that they wanted us GONE! I had also asked for a desert to arrive with a candle for my friend after dinner - with no pre warning (and one friend in the toilet - there was only 5 of us), the waitress dumped the cake in front of the birthday girl, once everyone was back to the table we asked the waitress for a lighter to relight the candles, this time with everyone and we had time to take camera out for photos - the waitress was not happy to be asked for a lend of a lighter! Again the water was back over clearing milk jugs, napkins, any loose scraps - trying to hint at us to clear off! (Maybe had you asked us would we like another drink we would have said yes!) Then the best part - he comes over with the bill and says "I know you haven't asked for it, but heres the bill" in which we said "thanks, no problem" and as we began to take out wallets out another member of staff came over to us and told us they need the table back in 5 minutes, in which we replied "no problem" and were gone in probably less then 5. We sat at 11.45am, and had left the restaurant by 1.45pm. Not once did any member of staff tell us how long we could have the table for but instead continued to make us feel unwelcome and like we were a nuisance. All 5 of us said we wouldn't be going back there again! Food is not the only thing that makes a place - rude staff can let you down in an instant!

After 20 minutes of waiting and being told they were out of potatoes and taco shells we left. We were the only ones without food and no crowd. So we finally left and can advise all other bad reviews are true. Not going back ever. And one of the party was an Exec Chef in the area and got tired of the horrible service.

Since moving to San Antonio we have been searching for the best taqueria in town. Taco Taco was the first one we tried. We were persuaded to try it by the sign saying that Guy Fieri says they serve the best taco in the USA. Well, I would not go that far but they definitively make good tacos. Since then I have eaten twice there and they are not definitively the best tacos in San Antonio but they are very good.

Living in San Antonio, I had heard of Taco Taco and its many accolades. I finally had a chance to try it. I think I may have let my expectations get too high from all the hype. I ordered a bacon, bean, and potato breakfast taco. Some of what I didn't like was just preferences. I prefer the potatoes to be a little crispier and cut smaller. The potato cubes were so large that they were one whole bite each. Also, the bacon was added in crumbles and not strips. This is an easy way to skimp on bacon. However, I think what I was most disappointed with was the service. After placing our order, our server never came back to our table and we were never able to get her to come back. We asked for green salsa and a coke that we never received. We were not there at a busy time either. There are many other taco/Mexican places in San Antonio, and I think I will be trying them before returning to Taco Taco

Walked in right before Closing and the food was spot on! Had a couple friends go and Rave about the food so I had to stop by. The puffy Tacos are delicous, I found that eating them fresh is the way to go, while the tortillas are crunchy. My wife took one home to enjoy later and the oil does get them soggy. Still great If you ask me,but missing that beautiful crunch. We tried there Fajita nachos and both Beef and Chicken Puffy Tacos. Can't wait to go back. Although I'm told weekends are packed so If you don't like big lines go during the week. Enjoy...

Raised in San Antonio I wasn't sure what to expect. We surrpringly waited outside to be seated, small with limited seating. I ordered their signature taco, the Norteno, and my wife ordered the chilaquile plate. We were both pleased with our food. We wish the portion on her plate was a little more, but still had good flavor. My taco was filled and very filling. The best thing are hands down, the tortillas. The best way I would describe is a small town diner. The service was nice and friendly and you are not rushed to finish your food. I really rate this around 3 1/2 stars and the main reason we would go back is because of the family environment of the staff and owners.

Went to Taco Taco after watching the reviews on TV. Waited over one hour for the food only to get wrong order. Tortillas are too thick. Food average. Definitely I will not return or recommend to anyone.

Not a tourist joint, but easy to find. Very good fresh ingredients make for delicious tacos. Highly rated and well deserved. Don't miss this one!

I went today with my elderly grandmother to eat. We waited for 15 mins at a table that was not clean. I asked if someone would clear the table for us and still no one came for another 10 mins. We decided to leave and I asked for the managers number. The owner came out and asked what the problem was even though she was the one I asked to clean the table. I told her we waited and she just apologized and blamed the holiday season though the restaurant wasn't packed. I told her it's ok I will just write a review and she told me "Get Lost!" What kind of business is run like that? This is the worst place for tacos besides what it claims. Guy Fierrei could've walked down two blocks to Panchito's where I have never had this kind of rude service. Looking at the rest of the reviews I hope this place goes under! #WorstTacos #WorstService

This place use to be average at best. The best taco award is laughable even the year they won. We went here in Sept of 2022 and it was SCARY bad. Everything we ate looked OLD and I mean sketchy!! we got there at 11:45 AM and the place had not been cleaned from the day before. We were the 1st ones there for the day and it was disgusting. I don't see how the health inspector has not shut them down. The only thing made fresh was the puffy taco shell. The beans and rice were obviously left over from the day before. I use to like this place but they have let it go and just need to close it. There are dives that are great. This is a dive that will more than likely get you sick!! This is painful to write as it use to be so good!

This place was amazing. These guys are known for their deep fried tacos. The food was great, along with service. Price was average. If ever in the area I will definitely swing by again. Highly recommended.

Had been recommended and well written up so had to try it. It was very average at best. Had chicken fajitas and enchilada plate and both were just average. The only time I've had to add salt to a mexican dish. Found out later that they are known for their puffy tacos, so if I were to return, I'd try what they are known for.

This is an old school Mexican Restaurant that has been visited by the Food Network. We shared their famous Norteno beef taco, which is a large fajita with beans and a slice of avocado. We were disappointed ours was missing the avocado. It was good, but we liked the regular breakfast tacos better. I had a chorizo and egg and my wife had migas. Excellent tortillas and good sized tacos. Our server was nice but was busy. It is not really as good as advertised, but it is a neighborhood place that I found very enjoyable.

Having seen Guy Fierri on his show this place was great ofcourse we had to visit and give it a try. This place closes at 2 and got here at around 1. it was packed sat down and took the waiter about 15 minutes to even ask for a drnks. we had to get up to ask for menu too. We asked for Guisado .. no guisado.. asked for breakfast tacos. no breakfast tacos.. asked for barbacoa nothing. We ended up with enchilada plate and just want to say that i make better ones. Food was not hot and tortillas were so thick that the middle tasted not cooked at all. They cud pass for pancakes actually. This place is super dirty! i was in shock its even open. i saw only 2 people working here... the waiter and the cook. oh and the food took forever to make also. Enchiladas had like one shred of cheese in them...This was my experience but go right ahead.. uve been warned😁

This cafe has the best Home made tortillas anywhere. It has some of the Best Carne guisada in town. Disadvantage, it's a very popular lunchtime cafe, you might have a problem right around lunchtime getting a table.

Taco Taco Cafe is a another DDD venue we stopped at while in San Antonio. We went for the well-regraded breakfast tacos, loved them, and had to make a repeat visit for lunch. (Tourist tip: it's very close to the Zoo.). For the first visit my wife had an egg and bacon taco. I had the egg, chorizo and potato. For a second stop, I had the migas taco (egg and leftover tortillas) while my wife had more lunch-appropriate beef taco. The homemade tortillas are what distinguish this place out from the pack. The restaurant also appears to be an ordinary fast taco joint on teh outside, but the inetrior is nicely decored, more like a trendy cafe. We visited both times during off hours, so no crowds. And the service was very good. We'll definitely be returning.

When we have visited San Antonio, we'd make a point to eat here because the food USED to be great. The salsa has changed and isn't the roasted tomato any longer. It was so hot, we couldn't eat it. My husband ordered the beef fajitas, which he said were just okay, the meat was tough. I asked if I could have the chicken enchilada/mole plate, but no chicken. (I didn't want meat, and would they stuff my tortillas with the side of beans and rice.) She said they wouldn't do that, but would ask. She returns to say the kitchen said no. Okay, then I asked for the spinach enchiladas, but with mole sauce, not the cream sauce. "No, they won't do that." What? It's just sauce. Just put on a different sauce. Our server said the kitchen was busy and I couldn't switch sauces, but she would ask. She left, and returned to say they would not switch sauces and I had to have the cream sauce. Okay, then just give me the chicken enchiladas with the mole sauce (I would scrape out the meat), she tells me there is no more mole sauce and I can't order the enchiladas. Really?! It's 12:30, they're open for lunch until 2:00 and you're telling me the kitchen has run out of mole sauce in the last 10 minutes? Out of frustration I ended up ordering the spinach enchiladas with the cream sauce, and they were awful. We were both so disappointed in this place and the lack of service.....over a sauce. We won't be returning and won't be recommending it to our traveling clients any longer.

Small, local taqueria was busy, fun and had great food. The puffy tacos were delicious and very filling; one order is easily enough for two people.

The food was good but the service was slow. We were seated within five minutes but the rest of our service was slow. The food tasted good. I had the chilaquiles taco and carne guisada taco. They were tasty. My wife had the taco taco norteno and a chicken puffy taco. The puffy taco was great, but the beans on taco taco made it taste bland. Overall, our visit was good and the was good enough to make another visit.

We were looking forward to this, after seeing it on the Food Network. The food was very greasy. The taco shells were so wet that they were no longer crispy.

We went to this place this morning I had heard about thru friends that live in San Antonio. I ordered 2 tacos and they were the best tacos I had ever had. And my bill was only $ 3.29, that is amazing. Will have to try this place for lunch.

We saw this place on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives and thought that we would try it one day. Well, that was a long time ago and boy are we regretting not going sooner. Helen (who is Greek) prepares all of the food from scratch! I am amazed that she is not Hispanic as I have many years of eating Mexican food, pardon the pun, "under my belt". From the hand formed tortillas, to the tacos, the sopapillas, everything here was the best that I have ever tasted! From the moment that the filled tortilla hit my tongue I knew that the genuine beginning was but an introduction to the flavor explosion that was awaiting inside. The waitress was a gem. I'm sorry that I didn't get her name. I think that she was tickled at how enthusiastic we were about finally finding out why it was on tv. The Restaurant is sometimes characterized by "Taco Taco so good they named it twice!" The prices are very affordable. The dining room is small but not crowded during our visit. A sign on the door states that "the line starts here" is referring to the breakfast crowd who line up at the door. Taco Taco isn't open for dinner, as Helen's family insists on having time with her themselves! If you eat Mexican food and don't like this place, correction LOVE this food, you just may be too picky. Come for the food, stay for the hospitality and CRAVE the authenticity of truly delicious dishes!

We went on a Sunday morning. I had the Huevos a la Mexicana and my wife had the Ham and Egg. Both were very good as was the service. I'm looking forward to going back and trying other things.

Best huge homemade tortilla not like most places ready made. the Norteno taco was rich with beans, cheese, beef fajitas with a great mixture of onions & bell peppers added great taste! they also had freshly squeezed lemonade that was to die for!!!!!

They would not even serve us! We had a party of 11, the restaurant barely fits... not much, so we ask to sit outside they refused to let us it out there or allow us to order to go food to eat on the patio as a family for Mother's Day! They wanted to put us at separate tables. The staff was trying to be helpful until some bitter old woman walked in and refused everything we requested.

Worth the wait, especially if you are a newbie just having breakfast tacos for the first time like me. The servings are enormous, and it's a laid back local place. Don't go expecting fancy-they have a hard working staff who will advise you how spicy or not and their food is down home great. Please support this fine local business.

this place gives bad mexican restaurants a bad name if you can believe that! Their puffy tacos are not even TACOS! they are fried flatbread, not masa. Yuck. If you care about good food served fast by a competent staff, keep moving on down the street, Holmes - this place is NOT for you. I will literally NEVER recommend this place again. It used to be good back in the day but it appears the Food Network star who reviewed it ruined it - or at least ruined their desire to even try and put out something someone might confuse with a puffy taco. Avoid this place at all costs - I will go hungry rather that inflict this place on someone ever again. Nasty.

This place has been a San Antonio institution since Bon Appetit magazine declared them to have the "best tacos in America" probably 20 years ago. It's a little taco café on the edge of a tony area near Trinity University. Having grown up in SA I can tell you they're not the BEST tacos anywhere. But there is room in my heart and my stomach for lots of taco places. Especially in San Antonio, which has the deepest assortment of genuine tex-mex in the world. The good: the tacos are big and they are pretty good. This is helped by above average flour tortillas (both in size and tastiness). the fajita tacos were pretty good. Ditto the carne guisada. The not-so-good: kinda slow service. And I would say it's not run-down enough to be a dive, nor updated enough to be fresh and new. It's kinda like the Bon Appetit recommendation: it's best moment was probably in the 80's.

We went for breakfast and even with only a few people there, the service was very slow. Our tacos were terribly bland and there was the smallest, saddest piece of bacon you've ever seen on mine. The salsa was not good either. The only good thing about the food were the tortillas. Very disappointed!

Just got back into san antonio returning from the middle east. This is the first place I stopped to eat. That should say everything...

Average taco place. Service was friendly and good. Have definitely had better. Would consider going back. Salsa is very good.

Classic, authentic, hand made from scratch tortillas.......... bacon and egg taco, chorizo and potato taco were PERFECTOMUNDO! All others good :)

We had heard that this place was a favorite of the Trinity University crowd, so decided to give it a try on a short lunch break on dorm move-in day. We tried Beef Gorditas, Crispy Tacos, & Puffy Tacos. All were extremely greasy, with the "Puffy Tacos" being the most soggy, greasy and disgusting things I have ever encountered under that description. My Gorditas were nicely browned, but had less than a teaspoon of filling between the two of them. Possibly the worst rice & beans I have had in years. No lettuce or tomato to speak of - probably less on the total of our four plates than on a single Taco Bell taco, and far less tasty. The clencher came when I went to the restroom to try to wash some of the grease off my hands. This was absolutely THE MOST DISGUSTING RESTROOM I HAVE EVER WITNESSED, including a vast number of OUTHOUSES I have used over the past near-60 years. Nasty toilet that was stacked to the rim with waste, a sink full of dirty paper, etc., and dried feces on nearly every surface. There is NO EXCUSE FOR THIS, especially on a restaurant. No other visible means for employees to wash hands in the place. Manager seemed totally indifferent when I told him the restroom was disgusting. Would never have eaten anything from this place if I had seen the restroom first.wanted to change my skin and pump my stomach. DANGEROUSLY UNSANITARY !

Every time I find myself in San Antonio I eat as much Tex Mex food as possible since it's something lacking in my city! Taco Taco is a simple but wonderful restaurant in San Antonio. Their specialty is breakfast tacos, and their famous taco is the El Norteño. Prices are incredibly cheap, service is friendly and fast and the place is bustling and charming.

I've had tacos all across the Great State of Texas because I work in the oilfield and I'm a pretty big fan of tacos. I've been to plenty of places that have below par tacos and this literally in my opinion is the best handmade flour tortillas I've ever had hands down. That's not even the best part, my all time critical test of a taco stand or restaurant is the migas taco... And the migas taco at Taco Taco is perfect. The tortilla strips are still crunchy and add to the experience the way a Miga's taco is supposed to be!! The other day I finally had the taco Norteno and it was equally as delicious!! I know everyone's got different taste buds and different life experiences that guide them on what kind of foods they prefer but this place has the best tacos I've ever had. Texas is already known as the king of tacos and San Antonio has the most authentic real Mexican food so it in my opinion goes without saying these are the best tacos in America!!

After reading the press and seeing the restaurant featured on the food network we decided there was some credibility to this establishment. Not the case for us on May 3, 2014. Lousy service at best, no queso and no chips or hot sauce. The ground beef puffed taco's I ate, and the chicken puff taco's my wife got feel apart because they were saturated with grease, and the rice and refried beans that came with it were cold. There are much better quality Mexican restaurants in San Antonio than this.

We ordered a steak ranchero that was average, tacos that were delicious, and enchiladas that were the absolute best ever. Friendly and efficient service. Reasonably priced.

I've been here several times with my children- they absolutely love the tacos. The food and place itself is very old-school San Antonio but, it desperately needs an update and new management. The last time I tried to come here with relatives from out of town, we waited over 15 minutes to be seated despite multiple open tables (not enough bussers), then waited AGAIN for another 10 minutes for waters and menus. We simply left the cafe after the waitress didn't return again. Bring chips, bring salsa, bring anything to keep your customers! The sad thing was- half the tables were empty! Well, filled with dirty dishes...but, still no customers. It appeared they only had 2 waitresses- one who was working her tail off and another slowly moving about the tables. Really sad- we left hungry and disappointed. We won't be returning.

Showed up on a Sunday, place wasn’t busy and we ordered tacos. Service was limited and place was hot with flies buzzing around. It took a while to get to our food and it wasn’t worth the wait. Tacos were average and no flavor to speak of, wouldn’t call them American’s best tacos as they advertise. Won’t be going back anytime soon.

We saw Taco Taco Cafe on Diner's, Drive-In's and Dives. We frequently trust Guy Fieri's choices when we are out of town and not visiting people who can give us first hand recommendations. The first problem here is that we arrived at 11:00 for lunch and left a little after 1:00. Many tables on the inside sat empty and uncleared while we waited outside to be seated. There was a gentleman who arrived just before we were seated who left with a take out order large enough to feed 30+ people, so at the time we thought maybe such a large order threw off their morning. However, in reading these reviews, it seems that the service we received is sadly the norm. When we finally got seated, it was ages before a server came to take our order. We ordered chips and queso, puffy beef tacos and a tacos nortenos. While we were waiting, a couple asked for their check as they had been waiting 40 minutes for their food and it still hadn't come. The server assured them it was the next order up, but they insisted that it be boxed up so they could leave. We observed another family on the patio that had to come in and ask if a server was coming out with menus because they had been there for 30 minutes and no one had come. When our order finally did arrive, it came all at the same time. It would have been very nice to get the Queso as an appetizer as it is intended rather than with the food. They give you a very small portion of chips, so we had to flag someone down to get more. If their food hadn't been so good, this establishment would have earned a terrible rating from me, but it was excellent food. Everything was perfectly seasoned and the homemade tortillas were amazing. We started to wonder if we should have called and ordered take out and eaten at a park. The space is somewhat cramped, it's not terrible clean and the service is pretty awful, but we'd come back for the love of tacos.

I spent 2 days in San Antonio on one of my Diner's, Drive-Ins, & Dives roadtrips. On the 2nd day I was going to spend the afternoon downtown at the Alamo and the River Walk.On my way down there I stopped by Taco Taco for lunch. It is in an out of way nieghbourhood that the locals know about. It was a Fri at 1120 and and I got a table right away. It is not a very big place, but homey.I had the Beef Gordita with the hand made tortillas. The tortillas on their own are bland but put them with either the home made Salsa (the bomb) or refried beans and a whole different story. The gorditas were also good. It is funny, most of the items (except the excellent salsa) are bland on their own, but put them together and Wow what a meal. And all that plus an Iced Tea for $10. You can't go wrong. Being on a road trip means only get to try one item from the menu. I intend to try and go back to some of the resturants I have visited to try something else. Taco Taco will one of them.

Our family recently stopped in on a Saturday afternoon because this place was featured on food network. Tried the beef and the chicken puffy tacos. They were AWESOME!!! Good service. We will be back!

I was disappointed that when we went they had just run out of potatoes, but I ordered the gorditos instead and wasn't disappointed. It was like eating a taco, but with a thick, fluffy corn tortilla. My boyfriend got the award winning taco and it was great too. Bring your appetite! You will not leave hungry!!

We went to Taco Taco Café because it had been so well-reviewed. We stood in line outside for about 20 minutes in the drizzle, thinking it had to be worth the wait...but nope, it was not. The food was average at best, but then I found a ton of eggshells in my scrambled eggs! I don't mean a couple of them, which is inexcusable in my book, but the last bite I took was full of them. Yuck! We will never go back there. Still wondering why it was so highly rated....

My family and I went to the Taco Taco restaurant, a Trip Advisor, Yelp, Bon Appetit and Roadfood.com recommended establishment. Let's start with a firm indicator of any restaurant: the restroom facilities. Theirs were filthy: broken paper towel and soap dispensers, a stench of stale urine and debris on the floor. Nails stuck out of the door. The garbage was not confined to the bathrooms. The floor mat dear the entrance and the floors in the kitchen appeared to have not been washed in several days. At the table, we were given small containers of salsa and chips, both of which appear to be store-bought. The salsa was tasteless. We asked for "salsa picante" which we hoped would be a little tastier. No such luck. We asked if the cook could through a couple of jalapeños in the deep fryer so we could get a little more taste and heat. No such luck: "The cooks are too busy." The restaurant was barely half filled. We ordered The Norteno Burrito, a Taco Beef Asada, a Taco Beef Carnitas and a Bean and Rice Taco. The middle two dishes were nondescript. They required the addition of salt (always a concerning sign) because they were bland. The carnitas resembled tough canned meat that one might get from a Hormel brand. The Norteno Burrito, was supposed to contain onions, cheese, avocado, meat, beans, and peppers. Oh, and taste, one would assume. it came with no onions, 1 underripe slice of avocado, 2 or 3 strands of uncooked slices of pepper, a ton of watery beans, and a tough, stringy meat. It was such a train wreck that it had to be sent back, a request that caused a stink (no pun intended to bring up the cleanliness of the restaurant again) that will be detailed below. The beans and rice were ... well by now, Dear Reader, you know the drill: bland, amateurish and basically inedible. All dishes are served on a doughy shell that was a dominant, and undesirable, component, that closely resembled naan-bread. We voiced our complaints. The sever apologized and later said we could have the Norteno taken off the bill (no mention of the bean and rice taco, but we didn't press the point). At that point, one would think that a manager would have come to our table to try to make things right. No such luck, and the lack of concern became a turning point in our experience. When it was time to leave, the manager grilled me about what had gone wrong. He indignantly (as if throwing his hands up in disgust and anger) refunded the cost of the Norteno. Just then, a woman (I think it was actually his mother!) scolded me because "These are the best tacos in America!" In addition to her lack of scientific validly due to my assumption that her sample size did not approach every other taco maker in the country, she also accused me of lying: "Your plate was empty! You ate it all." I reminded her that she did not look at my wife's plate which contained almost an entire untouched meal. Nice try, Taco, Taco, but the only thing more egregious than the culinary experience was the managerial response! What is truly puzzling to me, however, is how all of the afore-mentioned Critics could have misled their readers so strongly. Perhaps any restaurant can clean up when they know they are going to have a VIP ... sort of like how some teachers put on a dog and pony show when they know they are going to be observed.

If it's good enough for Guy Fieri, it's good enough for me. It was worth a short bus ride to have lunch. The puffy tacos are outstanding! Lucy our server was excellent! The restaurant is very small, but the place is packed. No disappointment here!

I was surprised at the variety of reviews. I've come here for breakfast for more than 10 years, even before some of the staff opened a new place up the street. Quality has been constant. Caveat, I only come here for breakfast. And on weekends, rarely after 9 a.m. because the place is very popular and the lines sometimes extend out to the parking lot. The used to serve machacado and egg plate, it was always great as a breakfast plate with barbacoa on weekends. When I buy tacos for the office staff, I buy them here. It's the variety and quality of ingredients and preparation, my staff always gave rave reviews. My only issue, the place as I said can be crowded with long waits. There you have it.

After years of trying to get here during their abbreviated hours, we came in expecting great things after hearing from Guy Fieri, Rachel Ray, Alton Brown and local reviews. We ordered a breakfast taco with eggs, beans and chorizo, and the "famous El Norteno". My husband couldn't find much egg and only one small piece of chorizo. The El Norteno, while impressive in size, was filled with chewy, sinewy beef. And considering we were the only ones in the restaurant and the food was made to order, the tacos arrived barely warm. We waited a long time to finally get here, but won't be back.

Waited in line probably close to an hour in hot TX heat when there were empty tables that hadn't been cleared. They are like Seinfeld's Soup Nazi; they could have cared less and the more those in the line asked the more they delayed clearing the tables. Once we got our breakfast we were certainly disappointed; it was definitely very average and not worth the wait. We won't be back!

Having worked in the service industry on and off for over 12 years, I was not impressed with the service-from management to the wait staff. My boyfriend and I went on a busy Sunday morning (noon-ish) and there was a line of people waiting to be seated. I don't mind waiting for a good meal, my issue was their system. We had to wait outside along the side of building with no idea of how long we could be out there. Once inside (after only waiting for about 10-15 minutes), the waitress who was clearly too flustered to take on any new tables, took about 5 minutes to greet us and give us a menu. After that, the service moved at a constant pace of SLOW. When ordering, I was told they were out of their special of the day (huevos rancheros), and then discovered that they were no longer serving any breakfast plates. Perhaps being a San Antonio native has me spoiled by small mom and pop taco places that serve breakfast all day, but if it clucks like a chicken and looks like a chicken.. The food that I was able to order, spinach enchiladas, were a good attempt at a unique dish. Unfortunately they couldn't save the day. I can say with confidence that I will never dine at this establishment again.

Driving by after a business meeting in a part of town I don't normally frequent, I noticed this "hole in the wall" and a sign out front indicating they had been featured on Food Network's Diner, Drive In's and Dives....you know Guy's show! The home made tortillas are to die for, and I enjoyed the puffy tacos as well. Don't expect to be wined and dined, but the food I received was great.

This past Saturday my wife and I felt nostalgic and visited an old friend...taco taco restaurant. My how things have changed! First of all, asada tacos are not served during morning hours...???Ok, we understand.. Maybe the asada cook doesn't come in until noon. Secondly, which is probably the greater of these two let downs, green salsa is not included at the table side enhancing condiments. Red salsa is your only option. The GREEN salsa is an added charge! Guess tomatillos are a hot and rare commodity. I come from a wealth of family owned restaurants and this is not good business practice. Lastly, food was not even a thumbs up, nor half a jalapeno...

This has been featured by the folks on Food channel and I'm not sure what all the hype is about. Food was good but not spectacular. It's a small space and their is an old fashion diner feel to it. Seating is limited.

Decided to eat breakfast there after seeing good reviews on their tacos but we had a horrible experience the waitress pretty much ignored our table while we were eating and they hardly put any barbacoa in the tacos I will not be going back!

My wife and I came in on a Saturday afternoon and they weren't too busy. We were told where to sit but given no menus. We waited patiently for them to bring menus, chips/salsa, something for quite some time (try 10 minutes). Finally we asked the man working the cash register who our server was and notifying him that we hadn't been greeted. Right then a man came and brought us menus then quickly walked away. We waited another 5 minutes and the same man, looking confused with everything he did, came back to ask for our drink order. He disappeared again coming back with our drinks 2-3 minutes later. Now it was even less full in the center so we weren't sure why he was so flustered looking or took so long. He again quickly disappeared before we could get his attention to order. 5 minutes later we had to again notify the guy at the register we were still waiting... A female server came over to take our order and when I placed an order for a breakfast taco she advised me that they just stopped serving them, 5 minutes before. Really? Had we not sat there a total of about 25 minutes we could have gotten what we wanted. Meanwhile everyone around us had breakfast and plates of it were still coming out, even to those who sat after us. We ordered but when my wife noticed food and paper stuck to the side of her cup we decided to leave (should have way earlier but we wanted to give them a shot...). Its too bad that the entire experience sucked. The place was filthy and the service horrendous but they had tons of awards with famous food personalities having frequented it. Come to find out there are tons of better places around from the locals. When we come back to San Antonio we will definitely NOT have this place on our go to. Btw the chips and salsa were terribly bland and old tasting, so if that indicates food quality there you go.

I chose the Cheese Enchilada plate for a quick lunch while running a couple of errands at lunch. I was NOT disappointed! Helen and Archie, the owners, are fabulous and Helen sent me back to my office with some tasty sopapillos, which I shared with my friends at the office. I beat the rush by getting there about 12:45 pm and I was finished by 1:10. It's too good not to eat there!

I have been coming here for years. I have seen the owner working and cooking every time I come here. She always takes the time to recognize me and say hello. I have seen employees come and go, I think even her son worked the restaurant with her for awhile. But the one thing that has stayed constant is her and the delicious tacos she always prepares for me. I don't know how much longer the cafe will be open as she is getting older but I hope it still has years left. A truly great mom and pop restaurant and an iconic piece of san antonio culture.

Great food! Loved the tacos! Definitely lives up to being the best tacos in America. I will be back next week

Came to San Antonio and was told to try them out! Glad I listened! Amazing Tacos, Great staff, and Great prices! I was glad they served breakfast tacos pass 10:30 am! Came from Temple Texas to try it and worth the trip! It is one of those Hidden Gems of San Antonio!

What should have been a 45 min lunch turned into 2 hours. I went here based on all the signs saying it was award winning food. The food was good but not worth the wait. I had to ask waitress to wipe the dirty table. Then after ordering coffee i had to remind her three times before it finally came. The food took about an hour from ordering before it was on the table. I do not think i will go back.

Would not come back here. Food was okay. Service was not. Named "Best tacos in America" at some point. Not even best in this neighborhood now. Place needed a good sweeping and cleaning (and we were here early in the day), which I would have overlooked if the food was better and service was decent.

This small crowded diner with a wall of awards was a major disappointment for us. We walked right in around 12:30 on a Sunday afternoon and were seated quickly. We had to ordered chips and salsa, then we chose the Award winning "El Norteno" taco with chicken (added cilantro and grilled onions). First disappointment: the salsa. Roasted tomato salsa sounded good, but tasted canned and bland. Then the enormous taco arrived and looked great. The large over-sized tortilla had a slight char and looked yummy! But , disappointment number two, it was bland and canned. The base of refried beans tasted canned; the grilled chicken fajitas looked great but had no flavor-no salt, no pepper, no seasoning at all. The staff was attentive and courteous. We are locals who are born and raised in San Antonio and south Texas and love our local cuisine. I wish we could recommend this diner, but based on our experience, we'd say avoid the chicken fajitas and bring your own salsa! Hopefully the other dishes merit all the praise heaped on this restaurant.

Just left Taco Taco on Hildebrand and now I remember why I never come here anymore.... I waited at the register for several minutes to order a simple lemonade to go. The lady finally came and took my order. I didn’t see her informing anyone nor was she grabbing me my drink so after several more minutes, I asked about it. She sounds annoyed and says “I’m getting it”. I look around and it’s not busy...maybe 3-4 small tables are filled. Then a waitress walks up to me and says there is no more lemonade. So I ask for my money back. She says ok and approaches the owner. As I watch, I see that she was told to “get away from me”. She looks at me helplessly. Meanwhile, another customer puts almost exact change on the counter with her ticket and storms out saying she is not waiting any longer. So I walk up to the owner and say “Excuse me, are you the owner? I just want my $2.70 back for the lemonade and I’ll be on my way.” She responds with “Yes, I’m the owner. No, someone will make more.” So I say “No thanks, I’m not waiting another 20min.” She storms off and yells “You’re going to leave because of $2?! Then get away from here and don’t come back!” WTH?!! As she hands me my money, she says again: “get out of here!”. It was so surreal!! As I left, I very loudly say "This place is AWFUL! I'll never come back." As expected, I got one more "get out of here!" from the owner. Warning: TacoTaco is NOT a friendly establishment. If I had a job for those young waitresses, I would’ve taken them all with me.

This was one of our favorite places - we’d drive from Houston just to eat here. Today the restaurant had few customers, one left cancelling his order as we arrived, We waited 40 min for a simple taco wihich never arrived. Finally we gave up and left too. One frazzled cook behind the counter - chaos. No one was happy. Windows and floor looked filthy - what a shame!

These tacos are super big and super fresh. Everything is great on the menu. Even one can fill you up!

We're always willing to try new places and after getting a good recommendation we thought we wouldn't be disappointed. Boy, was I wrong!! We came in for breakfast. First, we went in (party of 8) and sat ourselves down. Not really at one table but close enough to be okay. No problem. The owner came over and set up two small tables and made us move. She didn't ask if we wanted to, she just did it. We really didn't fit, but ok, still no problem. We began to order. Colas ordered came to us as diet colas. Sprite came to us as carbonated water. Orange juice came to us as a slush in a plastic cup with a pull back foil. The food... well, hopefully you like beans because that is the staple of almost every dish on menu. One of us ordered menudo and he got the broth and about four pieces of meat. Not kidding or exaggerating! My mom ordered an omelet and the egg was extremely undercooked. I ordered Chilaquiles without egg and it came to me as broken chips with melted cheese, no sauce and LOTS of onion. Only good thing about the experience were their freshly made flour tortillas. Very disappointingly!

Such a disappointment! I seen this place on The Food Network,Guy Fiery show, it looked so good that I dragged my husband from Austin Tx to eat here...When we got here the line was out the door. Wow their food must be great huh? So I thought. Many in line were there for the same reason, they seen the restaurant aired on The Food Network. Very small, run down, dirty place. We were seated. Waitress was very friendly. I wanted to eat everything Guy Fiery ate cause it looked soo good. My husband being a soup lover ordered the chicken tortilla soup and I had him order the lengua plate and I ordered the puffy taco plate. When the waitress brought the food, WoW they filled up the plate. My eyes lit up. The 2 puffy tacos took up the whole plate, so big, my mouth was watering.... had a first bite of the Spanish rice, yuk was so mushy and I am a big fan of Spanish rice but I was eating mush. Took the puffy taco into my hand ,took a bite and the whole taco fell apart. No taste in the taco. I'm sorry ,so I sent it back and ordered something else, the waitress recommended the fajita. So while I am waiting on my food, I start on my husbands, he didn't like his soup, it had no taste but it was edible,I thought it just needed more salt. His lengua was very good but his plate was filled with mushy Spanish rice and refried beans and maybe two full spoons of lengua. Not joking. Lengua good, but not enough. So here comes my plate...another disappointment!!!!!! It was a large tortilla with a layer ofrefried beans a layer of grilled onions and (counted) 5 pieces of fajita meat, folded as a half moon. Ugh. Didn't want to upset the waitress, yes I ate it. Just gathered all 5pieces of the meat to one side and ate just the one side. So if you ask me if I would return? NEVER

Not a bad little lunch dive! Service was good . We had the puffy tacos , they were unique. Can't say I'd drive off the beaten path twice to go there, but it's a good lunch if your in the area. Quite frankly, I might just go for the Sopapillas alone!

We had breakfast at Taco Taco Cafe today. This tiny restaurant has the best tortillas. Both the flour and the corn tortillas are home made. The waiter was really sweet and treated us really well. He did a great job. You would not go wrong eating breakfast here. But, you better hurry...I think it is only open until 2pm.

I was excited to try Taco Taco's breakfast tacos, based on a friend's recommendation. I arrived around 9am, ordered 4 tacos for sampling, and relaxed with an excellent coffee while I waited. And waited. And waited. After 45 minutes, I thought I spied a To Go bag with my tacos, but the waitress insisted they weren't mine. After a few minutes, she decided they were. On my way out, I noticed a photo of Guy Fieri with the owner. Not a good sign, and after the wait, I pumped myself up to sample the tacos, a chorizo & egg, a huevo a la mexicana, a chilaquiles, and a papa ranchero. What a disappointment. They were cold by now, all under seasoned and bland. Only the Papa Ranchero with tomatoes had much flavor. The chorizo in the chorizo & egg was almost non-existent. My breakfast taco run was a total bust.

These breakfast tacos stand out in a city that is bursting at the seams with taco joints and great Mexican restaurants. The hand-made tortillas are large and thick. The cheese is that special cheese that's somewhere between cheddar and velveeta and isn't greasy when it melts. The restaurant is small (may seat 20-25 people). I was expecting a wait at 9:30 on a Sunday morning based on the reviews I'd read but we got in without a wait, no problem. It was beginning to get a small wait by 9:45. Service is great but they don't cut corners in the kitchen to get them out quick so be patient. With all of their notoriety (Bon Apetit, Food Network, Details Magazine, Best of SA, etc.) they still keep the breakfast tacos cheap at $1.59!

Saw this on Diiners, Drive Ins and Dives; decided to give it a try. It is really good. Mutiple types of tacos, be prepared for a line to form around the building; but worth the wait. Great prices

Quite possibly the worst tacos I have ever had. There was zero taste. They didn’t have any options except for egg and potato. Please avoid this restaurant. And management should take down the sign saying best tacos in America. Worst tacos in the world. Literally just threw up.

My brother and I had been wanting to try this restaurant for a while after seeing all the reviews. Today we decided to see what the buzz was all about. When went in we saw how full the place was which was a good initial sign. When we were seated the waitress immediately catered to us and brought us out some chips and water. We both ordered tacos and they were prepared in a decent amount of time. The chips they brought us came in a cool set up (see attached pic), I thought that was pretty unique. The tacos were pretty good too. Although I have to admit I've had better tacos, these tacos were close to their level. This place did win a bunch of awards but I'm thinking maybe the awarders did not try any of the spots that I've been to. Overall the restaurant is legit. Good food and service.

I previous gave this place five stars, but today I am downgrading to three. Truthfully it should be a one but as a fellow business owner trying to recover from months where you struggle is tough. The place is disorganized, not enough staff and food is served cold. I will revisit next summer to reevaluate.

We were excited to eat here based on it serving "The best tacos in America". We made our way to a table, holy cow the place is cramped. My husband went to the men's room, I sat down at the table which was wet and had remnants of salsa smeared, so the table wasn't well cleaned, hint #1 Leave. Then there was a clear salsa container on the table with a spoon sticking out it was a quarter full with an open top, I wondered if this was the salsa we were expected to use? Hint #2 Leave now. The young server came over handed me a menu and was gone. I opened the menu it barely held together, it was torn in several places. At this point my husband arrived at the table and said " do you wanna leave?" He said "The men's room is filthy and reeks, look at this place, and look at that menu, I don't think we should eat here". Hint#3 We Left!

If you're visiting San Antonio and have never experienced a breakfast taco then you will probably like Taco Taco. Nice wait staff, average food. As a local, all I can say is please, don't believe all the "Best" hype. Imagine going to Philadelphia to see the famous Liberty Bell, that huge bronze bell that symbolizes freedom in the United States with it's aged patina and it's distinctive, iconic crack. Now imagine visiting the same bell, expecting the above, but now "improved" looking pristine, polished and shiny with the crack perfectly restored, ready for TV and magazine awards. Well, that's Taco Taco 2015. Taco Taco is an easy, 5 minute walk from my house and we've been eating there since about 1995. That was 3 owners and 3 Presidents ago, back when there was almost always a line to get in. Once inside, we would sit at the counter and enjoy a hot coffee and/or a cold Big Red and watch a sweet older woman making amazing fresh tortillas by hand as we waited for our favorite breakfast tacos. The place was crowded and buzzing with conversation, the staff was cheerful and both the breakfast tacos and the hot sauce WERE truly award winning. Taco Taco today still has a great wait staff but looks and feels like the lobby of a generic, brand new Motel. They stripped it of all the hole-in-the-wall charm and authenticity, and most importantly - got rid of the kitchen staff that truly made it what it was. There's an obtrusive margarita machine in place of the bar seating and the vibe is now is that of a faux upscale shrine to some Food Network dude with bleached hair and lots of red cars. Gone is the woman making tortillas by hand. You won't find prices or info regarding a chef or fresh ingredients on the website, just lots of hype regarding the ancient awards, franchising and social networking. The chips + hot sauce are no longer included with your meal. That San Antonio birthright is now $2.50. You get one comp refill of the 6oz coffee, after that they charge you another $1.69 for a refill. The first morning I stopped by with my dog to pickup a to-go order I tied her to the barrier of the new outdoor seating and I got a very rude "No Dogs!" by the less-than-friendly woman that now runs the place. I could go on and on. The food is fine and the place is clean. My main point is that I feel sad that not only is the puro San Antonio charm gone but so are the "Best Breakfast Taco's in America" a block from my house. Fortunately, this being San Antonio after all, there are plenty of other, better, friendlier, authentic breakfast taco options. The morning wait at Panchito's is not too long and within walking distance. And as far a this local gringo is concerned, if you want a true, real-deal friendly San Antonio Mexican food experience, breakfast or lunch, head over to El Milagrito on St. Mary's.

We ate here several years ago and it was great. This trip it was awful. It wasn't crowded and we sat down. There was a sign on the door for help wanted and boy do they need it! We did not see any one working in the place for about 8 minutes. The one waitress finally came and brought menus and left. No drink order or anything. After a few minutes (5) she came back to take our drink order. Another 5 or 6 minutes later she brought our waters and took our order. After about 10 more minutes we got our breakfast tacos. We were totally disappointed. The tortillas were light and great, but they barely had any eggs in them. We were never asked for coffee refills and only got our bill after going to the cash register. We will not be going back.

Taco taco is now El Charro tio. The owner of taco taco finally retired. The new restaurant has been completely renovated inside. I am happy the owner that I have known for years finally retired and it looks like she made a good deal to rent the location to a new tenant/restaurant. This all occurred into the last 30-60 days. I went there today for lunch and was a little disappointed that I didn't get to see her and chat a little. But I was also happy to see the restaurant moving forward in a positive direction. And the new restaurant made me some delicious tacos. Try the Carne guisada and the beef fajitas. Both were excellent!!. The owner would be proud.

I stopped in for a quick lunch one day (they're only open for breakfast and lunch per the website) and got take out. I tried the corn fluffy tacos, like in the picture above. They were okay. I put some of their sauce on it. I also tried the menudo soup which they only have on weekends - I had to stop after one sip. If that's your thing, then go for it, but the flavor was too strong for me. The service was okay. I will probably try them for breakfast, but am not planning to rush back.

I’ve passed this place numerous times so I decided to check it out today during lunch. Waitress was friendly and helpful. I decided to go with the two chicken puffy tacos with rice, beans and tortillas. While my order was being made waitress brought out chips and salsa. Salsa was ok but I didn’t really like the chips. Normally I munch on chips and salsa until my entree comes out but that wasn’t the case today. Food didn’t look to bad but I was expecting so much more from the first bite. I thought it would be awesome food but it wasn’t even close. Friendly staff but I didn’t like the food at all.

Taco Taco Cafe is a small, local restaurant with very authentic Mexican food. We love to eat at local restaurants when we travel. I ordered the beef "puffy" tacos, and they were amazing!! The service and atmosphere were friendly. This restaurant was visited by Dinners, Drive-In & Dives....always fun to visit one of those locations. I would love to go there again tomorrow =)

Went here on Mr. Fieri's Diners, Drive-ins and Dives recommendation. Arrived there at 11:30 a.m. and waitress stated they were not ready for lunch yet. Found this to be very odd since they are only open until 2 p.m. Waitress stated she would make our lunch for us and so we ordered tacos. The chicken tacos were dripping with liquid all over my plate and mushy. The puffy tacos doughy and soggy and both items were thouroughly disquesting and I left all on my plate. Go to Taco Bell and you will get a better taco, which is really sad.

Service was horrible! There was only one waitress for the whole place and it was very busy. She barely spoke any English, which made it very hard to order. We tried to order multiple things that we were told were only available on certain days and times, but the menu didn’t indicate this. Somehow I got iced tea when I asked for water and I got two entrees, when I thought I only ordered one. The food was just okay. There is better authentic Mexican to be found in San Antonio. The women’s bathroom should be condemned! I brought my nine month old in to change her. There was no changing table, but I made do by changing her in my lap. The room is small and I was careful not to let her touch anything because it was so filthy. I should have turned right around and changed her in the car.

I was very surprised to get such good food a this place. You walk in not thinking about the great food that will soon enter you. It was a prime time and there was very little wait.

Been coming to Taco Taco for years. It's so hard to get Carne Guisada outside of San Antonio (natives know what I mean). This place feels like home every time I come in. It's always packed for a reason. Thank you Taco Taco!

The food was good. I had the beef puffy tacos and was satisfied but not so impressed that I would crave them in the future. They were OK. When I walked in they were about half full but most of the tables were not bussed. The waiter told me that I could find a seat at a clean table. He came by and gave me a menu and told me, "I'll get to you when I can. There are others who got here before you." Not necessarily an overtly rude sentence, but not really welcoming either. I understand that he was busy and I was good with that. I guess the warning just rubbed me the wrong way.

We made the trek to Taco Taco while in San Antonio to see if the Puffy Taco featured on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives was really as great as promised. It WAS good, but the home made tortillas were the real treat of the visit! I was disappointed that I could not order a chicken taco and a beef taco on my "specialty plate". Those "house rules" are absurd - if a patron is willing to pay, give them what they want! Service was adequate, but what troubled me was seeing wait staff "dressed down" repeatedly in the background by the owner, who looked overworked and exhausted too. Our server was sweet and hard-working. Also, seeing other patrons asked to wait OUTDOORS in the heat and humidity (the dining room is TINY) until a table was available seemed a bit much. There are a lot of conflicting priorities for the owner of this establishment to balance. Perhaps moving the main entrance to the front, and letting drivers-by on the main street see a waiting line would be good advertisement? Then they can put some umbrellas and chairs out for people to sit and wait in the shade for a table, and improve the curb appeal to match the food.

Went there fir breakfast following TripAdvisor recommendation. Wrong choice. I ordered huevos ranchers which came doused in a sweet tomato sauce. Warm coffee, even after asking for a fresh cup. My son ordered beef tacos-- skirt steak was very chewy and he kept complaining that he couldn't chew enough to swallow. I know it was on triple D--- but breakfast was a complete disappointment. No hot salsa at an authentic looking Mexican joint makes it even more suspect??? C'm on folks get your act straight!

We decided to try Taco Taco because of Guy Fieri visiting the place for one of his Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives shows. It's been a few years since the visit. We had a late weekday breakfast there of Huevos a la Mexicana & Chilaquiles with Cheese. We actually didn't get their signature breakfast tacos, but did order a puffy chicken taco because Guy said that their "the bomb"! All was good, and the flour tortillas they make & serve are great and huge! The puffy taco was not greasy, which is my main way to tell if the place knows what they are doing. Fortunately, the Friday we visited was very quiet on an off hour, so no line to contend with that day. That was a good thing, because I would not wait in a long time to eat here. Overall, the food is good, but not over the top great as I had heard and expected. The place is pretty run down too, with parts of the ceiling tiles falling in & a fair amount of houseflies buzzing around the morning we were there. I hate to say it, but I think that the place is resting on their laurels, and has seen better days. I can think of at least a half-dozen other local places to go with as good or better tacos. Also note that they close at 2pm.

I had the best service and waitress. I walk in get greeted seated and served. I had the puffy tacos and they were delicious.

I stopped in for lunch. The fajita tacos were tender and the tortilla's fresh and fluffy. The dessert was moist and new flavor.

So that crazy white haired wanna-b chef has been here and left a poster on the wall...so I was a little disappointed to start. Had lunch there my first time and it was just ok, had salsa verde enchiladas with chicken...they had a good portion of chicken but the salsa verde was a bit bland. The flour tortillas are fresh made and gorgeous and the regular salsa is very good. Today had breakfast tacos with chorizo and eggs and wow what a way to start a day...so good!! Gets crowded here so be prepared to wait!

Not good. Food or service! I ordered a chalupa and enchilada and the chalupa had loads of beans and hardly any cheese or lettuce or tomatoes. I ate it after scraping most all the beans off and it wasn't good. It's a chalupa, how could you go wrong?! The enchilada looked bad, I was scared to eat it. I took a tiny bite and spit it out. However, the flour tortillas are good. I went to get a refund for my food and the owner was SO incredibly rude. We ended up arguing over $8!! That was my fault I should have just left. She never gave me a refund, not even for the enchilada I didn't eat. She insisted on making me more food but I didn't want more, just wanted a refund. Disappointed at the way this restaurant has gone downhill over the years.

I was in town for a few days and was looking forward to this visit because I had seen the restaurant in Diners, Drive Ins and Dives, but it was a complete let down. The glasses were dirty, the guacamole was spoiled, the menus were outdated and greasy and the waitress got our order wrong twice. We decided to leave before our order came out and told the waitress to cancel it. The owner was yelling at her employees and raising her voice at customers who had complaints and were walking out. She made us sit back down by telling us that the food had already come out. We felt so uncomfortable we couldn’t take a bite out of our food that we decided to leave money on the table and walk out of the restaurant. The owner followed us out and started yelling “shame on you” to us as another family was walking into the restaurant. They asked us what happened and left right away. Such a bad experience. No owner should treat her customers and staff that way. Save yourselves time and money by going to a place that will respect you and your family. Never again! Such a let down.

This is the first average review I've ever given. My family and I purposely sought out this place based on seeing it on Triple D as well as hearing it was voted "best tacos". We were shocked to see how tiny and dirty looking the place was. Although it seemed to be full inside, we stuck it out and ate outside which wasn't such a great idea since the street is very busy and noisy. The tacos were ok but nothing to write home about. The four of us each tried a different kind of taco, some flour, some corn so that we could sample. None of the flavors really stood out and the puffy tacos were too thick and greasy. Our waitress was kind but everything took so long and there were two mistakes with the orders. It was very disappointing that nothing lived up to the hype. Sadly,it is unanimous that we will not be visiting that restaurant again.

This use to be one of the best mexican places in San Antonio but what happened? The food was terrible and the service worse please don,t bother going you will be disappointed. It was so bad we had to serve ourselves they should be ashamed of the food and service they are putting out.

Had breakfast. Ordered chorizo and eggs plate. Homemade tortillas with eggs beans and potatoes for great price. Daughter had two tacos that were 1.59 each and very good.

I took my sister there who was in town from Vegas because she saw the triple D segment. I warned her that this place sucks. We went anyway and low and behold it SUCKed! It was so bad, that we left most of the food on our plates and when we got home, and we lived close by in Monte Vista, we were fighting for the bathrooms. This place has been bad for a long time. I laugh every time we drive by and see those banners waving outside.

We looked this place up after seeing them on Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives. It was definitely worth the trip. This is a small place so sometimes there is a line waiting outside the door. The tacos are huge. I had a beef fajita taco and a puffy beef taco. They were awesome. Everything tastes homemade and authentic. I would definitely come back again.

Great location, service and food. Came for breakfast and had the tacos. They are huge! Yummy and will visit now more offen.

This is a little neighborhood cafe with surprisingly great Mexican food. The tacos are ranked with the best in the country, but the tortillas are amazing. I went back just for an order of those alone. In my view, they're number ONE in the USA. Happy trails.

This is the worst Mexican food joint in my 78 year experience. The Food Channel's show recorded in 2014 is a fraud. And Guy should know it. The Greek owner should hang it up.

Easy to find because the signage boasts DDD and Guy Fieri, we try and eat at his picks on vacation. Met the owner Helen and had a lovely chat with her. Ordered Egg & Potato tacos and Chorizo sausage and egg taco, Helen added some cheese to both at my request. The food was good. The restaurant is clean, parking is available. They do take out. Enjoy walking around and see the pictures of celebrities who enjoyed the food and say hi to Helen!

I paid very good tip every time all thou my order was to go first time was good food but after all others was burn food i will neve go back worst

The day we were there no one was clearing tables. Outside the line was growing while we counted three empty tables. The place is very small and can only hold about 30 diners, so be prepared for a long wait. The tacos were larger than most but very bland. The sausa nothing special.

I am a native San Antonian who has been eating Tex-Mex and Mexican food for more than 60 years. I heard about all the food magazines and celebrity chefs praising Taco Taco, but I never got around to eating there. I took the plunge Sunday for lunch. What a mistake. The place is a dump and the men's room is filthy. We were served corn tortilla chips, which were okay, and some "salsa," which was nothing more than canned tomatoes with maybe some onions. It always amazes me when people are able to make food that has no flavor whatsoever. I got picadillo that tasted like boiled unspiced beef, if it tasted like anything at all. The taco shell on my puffy taco was chewy and doughy, not at all like it should be. This place should not be allowed to advertise that they serve Mexican food, because the crap they serve is not anything like Mexican food. All in all, this may be the worst Mexican food restaurant in San Antonio I have ever visited, and I've eaten at hundreds of them over six decades. A thoroughly disgusting experience. Avoid at all costs.

Great homemade breakfast tacos and addictive red salsa. There is a compact, air conditioned dining room and an open patio. If you are on the go or more efficient, place a telephone order and fuel-up at the service station next door. Taco Taco is a solid choice for breakfast and lunch this summer.

There's a reason I've gone to Rolando's all these years. This place is horrible. Waited in line. Only to get a crappy seating. The restaurant is gross. It's dirty. Good everywhere. Waitresses were slow and lacked no care. Didn't even top drinks off or clear the table. It's horrible. I come to a restaurant to get the best food because they've been featured all over San Antonio media. Not worth it. Never again.

Everything we ordered was delicious!!! We went on an off hour and got to talk to the owners which was fun. Worth going!

Taco Taco was an exceptional restaurant with authentic food! We had a little wait at noon on Sunday to be expected. The staff were informative and the service was wonderful. We will definitely return the next time we're in SanAntonio!

I have had much better tacos. Asked for water and was given a glass that was dirty. It was replaced with another dirty glass, I got a beer instead. My husband un wrapped his silverware, it was dirty. Tacos were not seasoned very well, and my fajita meat in my taco was tough and very chewy. I will not come back.

Cheap tacos and fast food. Service was okay. Great meat filling in the tacos, and great quesadilla with chicken. The cheese was a little strange, some kind of cheddar, I guess. In California you get Monterey Jack cheese in tacos.

This is a prime example of how the Food Network ruins a great local cafe. Swarms of hunger tourist pushing a cafe beyond its limits and it's the food that suffers. First, I'm from South Texas thus the tourists label does not apply. Second, tortilla need to have flavor and not just be fluffy. In fact fluffy is a bad thing. Third, this place ruined our faithful parking lot test and forced us to add a secondary test, " how much food is left on the plates after the customers leave". If the answer to that is half eaten or untouched tacos, just turn around and leave. We will use the second test from now on. We have them a chance for passing the full parking lot test and waited almost an hour for two tacos each. I had a some bean and cheese and a carne guisada for my second. The bean & cheese was my backup in case the carne guisada was a bust, which it was, and I could only manage half of the bean and cheese. So my plate was an empty tortilla after I at least ate the meat from my carne guisada (I was starving by this time) and half of my bean & cheese. Both were complete failures. This place I'm sure was great before they became famous.

Went to Taco Taco Cafe in San Antonio, TX and went into the restaurant to be greeted with an overwhelmed waitress that had no time for anyone else. My family had to ask three times before we walked away because they were not going to seat us. This is ashamed how customer service destroys good food.

The building and decor are not fancy - neither is the food. It is just your basic Mexican. I've only had breakfast and it isn't anything to swoon over, but no complaints either. Good beans, basic migas, thick home-style tortillas, not too hot salsa. Service can be a little slow, but it is well meaning. Weekends there are long lines so come early or come on a weekday. They are best known for breakfast tacos and there is a pretty big variety to choose from.

Very small taco shop. We had to wait for about 15 minutes for a table. Really crowded but the food was good. Homemade tortillas were the best!

It took 48 minutes to get 4 tacos that cost 17$....good tacos but i will not be going back. The waitress didnt even talk to us. Disappointed :(

Went here for lunch and were glad we did. The homemade tortillas alone are worth the effort. Every DDD place we have been didn't live up to the hype this place sure did. Have not been for breakfast but I'll bet it is great if you can believe the customers we talked to. There was a little wait the place is small but no problem. If you like being adventurous this place has a bunch of the off the norm meats etc. They also have all the common mexican food too. Just Go!

This place was terrible.. Not to mention the level of rudeness that was given to us by a waitress!! Because of a good review years ago and a mentioned on TV this place seems to think that they are awesome well a new floor and a couple of clean tables does not make this place awesome.

Stopped in for lunch, and while I had about a 10 minute wait before finding a seat the service after that was friendly and not too slow. Had the famous taco Norteno and it was amazing--the beef was juicy, the beans were delicious and not gritty the way some canned beans are. The best part was the tortilla, hands down the best flour tortilla I have ever had (and I've sampled many!). Definitely recommended, especially when considering the prices are so reasonable!

We sought out this little place while we were in town due to it's appearance on Diner's Drive In's and Dives and I'm so glad we did! The homemade tortillas were to die for and the tacos were huge! The only thing I thought was strange was the OJ I ordered came in a tiny plastic cup with the foil cover that you pop the straw through or peel back...I thought I was back in elementary school, LOL :) I can totally overlook that for the tacos though!!! Definitely get here early if you are coming on a weekend, it got really packed while we were there and it's a small joint.

The first thing i noticed was empty dining room, and nasty dirty worn paper menu. It's just printed on a piece of legal paper, how difficult could it be to print clean menus instead of taping the tattered ones back together? The place needs some detail cleaning for sure...Large and bready tortillas with sparse fillings served lukewarm.. San Antonio is filled with great taco places, much, much better. I would skip this one and do the drive through at Bill Miller Bbq, you will be much happier!

The food lived up to the hype and was delicious. I had the huevos rancheros and the rest of my party had variations of their tacos. The only negative comment I have to make about the establishment is the poor service. Took 20 minutes to get a menu, constantly had to look for our waitress to flag her down for refills, etc. never came to check on us. I recommend this place for the food. Must come with some patience, however.

The huevos rancheros was delicious but unfortunately they were short staffed so it was a little slow. The wait staff was working super hard, they just needed more people. But I absolutely loved the tortillas!

We went on a Friday during lunch rush, we got in and out, within 40min. Only went there because DDD, was good, tongue taco was AMAZING! Would go again!

After seeing this place on the food network, I could not wait to get there on this trip. It was easy to find ,smaller than I thought, but the service and food was not up to par. I hate writing negative comments but I was so looking forward to the puffy tacos and they did not make the mark. They were extremely greasy and with no flavor. The service was extremely slow and she was always forgetting something. Maybe we picked a bad day but I probably won't go there again.

We try to hit a Diners Driveins and D9ves whenever we see one on our travels. There were so many Mexican food places in San Antonio we decided to stick with one Guy recommended. Boy were we disappointed. There is absolutely nothing special about this place, including zero atmosphere. An authentic Mexican place that charges you $1.59 for a side of sour cream and uses regular shredded cheese? Very little taste. Also had to ask for the free chips and salsa, don't think he planned on bringing them out while we sat there waiting for food. There was only one other table besides us a and about 6 employees standing around eating some nachos off a plate that anthor employee was sitting at. Very inattentive service. Really sorry we passed up several recommedations about places right near the River Walk that looked really great, but we were thinking we would get out of the touristy area and get more authentic food, not true. We were really looking for an authentic Tex-Mex meal in Texas and this definitely was not it!

Have and office in San Antonio that I go to about one time a quarter..Stay for three day then back home.. Love this place to have a nice lunch there, the Taco are just the best, but get there early, it is a little small place much like you would fine in Mexico, and same the Taco, parking in back and then try to get a table. The service was very good and it took about 25 min to get my food but worth the time. Taco was very good had the beef and with green salsa was very good. I try to go there very time, I am in San Antonio.

Every time we go to San Antonio, we make time to visit Taco Taco. An outdoor seating area has been added. We've only had breakfast there...always delicious. Not sure why some reviewers rated the food so low. The BEST tortillas I have ever tasted! The waitresses have lots of customers to take care during peak breakfast and lunch times so try to visit earlier or later. Taco Taco is yum, yum!

We get to San Antonio two or three times a year. We have always made Taco Taco our 'go to' favorite for breakfast tacos. We discovered recent reviews that were less-than-stellar but decided to visit and do our own assessment of the food and service. Unfortunately, our experience mirrors the recent reviews. Hopefully, these comments will assist the current owners/managers/staff to improve their future ratings. Tortillas, while made fresh were much too thick. Ingredients as described on the menu: stingy, barely exist or missing entirely on tacos supposedly containing multiple items. Food temperature: warm to barely-warm when arrived at the table. My recommendations to the owner/manager(s): Work on the tortillas (too thick), don't cut corners on item ingredient quantities, train the cook to prepare the food so it is all ready at the same time (and ditch the heat lamp) and when it is ready, have the servers deliver it immediately to the table (hot off the grill). Unfortunately, they have lost a former advocate that promoted their business to others, having recommended Taco Taco to countless other friends upon visiting San Antonio. Their past accolades from celebrities is obviously based on outdated experiences. Our experience and those of recent reviewers shows that celebrity reviews alone cannot be trusted when the establishment relies on those reviews to bring in customers. Remove all the celebrity posters, awards and banners and start over. There's still an opportunity, but get back to the basics that justified the awards and recognition in the first place.

I love everything about this place and every time I make a trip from Houston to San Antonio this is one of the places I have to visit. I love their homemade corn and flour tortillas.

We went there open tables were all dirty so sat at a dirty table which no one ever cleaned off. Waited over 15 minutes no one ever helped us so we left. Went because it was a triple D location and if I was Guy I would take my name off that joint.

DO NOT come here if you’re looking to write a bad review after you leave. We eat breakfast here regularly to support the owner, support her business, eat a good meal, have a hot cup of coffee, for a reasonable price. If you don’t think it’s reasonable, go eat this same meal an hour up the road in Austin. The owner and one other person were running the entire show. We did wait but for about 5 minutes tops. Menus, same. Maybe 5 minutes. Drinks… same maybe 5 minutes. Food… no more than 15 minutes. These are estimates because we were busy enjoying the company of one another at our table. Food was hot, table clean, tortillas and meals were phenomenal, coffee good as always. We weren’t in a rush. We knew the owner was waitress, cook and busboy and I tipped her above and beyond for accomplishing all three while still being so patient with my special needs son. The owner was attentive as always. Appreciative. I’m tired of the expectations the public puts on small businesses. Go to Cracker Barrel for the corporate quick breakfast. Do not walk into a local establishment and beat them down when they don’t perform. People need to stop expecting a horse and pony show every time they walk into an establishment. It’s food and it’s good. Shouldn’t that be enough? Guy Fierri should have never come here. Recognition can ruin dreams sometimes. The owner is a woman and an immigrant from Greece who has worked tirelessly her entire life. She’s been serving people homemade food in this building, in this neighborhood for as long as I can remember. The only thing I can see that is trucked in and made elsewhere are the cans of soda and milk in the refrigerator. Sit down, relax, converse with one another, have grace… and let her do what she loves. #foreverhercustomer

Arriving at the crowded taco place, we immediately recognized their disorganization. We sat down and our waitress was flustered and out of breath. We ordered our drinks and they arrived in dirty cups. After we ordered the famous puffy tacos, the waitress came back to take our order twice. We felt bad and recognized it wasn’t her fault. She then told us that that same day she had dropped off her resume and had put her to work as they were understaffed. Understandably, she didn’t know the menu or anything really. We ordered some guacamole and as we dug in we realized something wasn’t right. In the middle of the guacamole was this grainy, white substance and well moldy. We became uncomfortable to continue eating there as the place didn’t look extremely neat either and we told our waiter we wanted to leave. She was totally understanding and told us to just leave without paying for our drinks. We felt bad for her so we gave her a $15 tip. As we started to walk out the owner halted us. She pointed out our food was done and she has spent a lot of time making it. That it would be rude for us to leave without paying now that our food was done. She even offered us a discount for the food. As she was begging us to stay she argued with another waitress saying she “couldn’t handle us” and as the waitress said multiple people were waiting to pay the owner said “they’ll just have to wait”. She forced us to sit back down and the waitress, continuously apologizing, brought us the wrong order. We weren’t going to eat it anyway, it didn’t look appetizing and even less when we were just forced to sit down. We told the waitress again that we wanted to leave. We, unnecessarily, left $20 on the table and hurried out. Midway to the car the owner yells “shame on you!” multiple times. After we told her we left money on the table, she left. Never again. Don’t recommend.

I have had better food out of a vending machine - and better service to boot! They are really a mystery when it comes to how on earth do they remain open. I do not get it.

Went here because it said it was in the top 10 places to visit. We were the only ones in the restaurant. The food was terrible the puff tacos maybe had a teaspoon of meat. It was suppose to be ground beef but not sure what it was. There was only 1 lady doing everything. We asked for things on the menu, she kept saying I make everything fresh and I don’t have that. The homemade tortillas were the best part. Very disappointed.

Stopped here for my favorite tacos again after a long deployment. Its still in business after the coronavirus lock down. Glad to see. Service was quick and food delicious.

Stopped in for lunch while visiting San Antonio because we saw it on triple D. Very small establishment which is ok. We like small local spots. We were seated promptly as there were only a few other patrons inside. Ordered different types of tacos not realizing how big they are. Husband got 3 and I got 2. I would have been satisfied with just 1. We both ordered the lingua (tongue) but they only had enough left for 1. It was good but mostly tasted the tomato based sauce that was on it. Barbacoa is only sold on weekends, so that was disappointing (although understandable.). The carne guisada Taco was good but a little dry. I ordered a beef fajita taco and the meet tasted like it was cooked on a grill that needed cleaned. I couldn't even eat it. The Piccadillo was good. the worst part for me was the bathroom. Just walking back to them it's dirty and smelled like sewage. If they have the lines out the door like their signage implies, they have the money to redo the bathrooms. Small, smelly, and dirty.
Not good, Spend money elsewhere
We visited Taco Taco for the first time four years ago and it was amazing! Back in San Antonio for a week we decided to go back and this time it was terrible! I didn’t even finish my food because it wasn’t good at all. And that’s saying a lot because tacos are my favorite kind of food. We were never offered chips and salsa and had to ask for it. Service was extremely slow. We ordered four tacos and it took over 45 minutes to get it food, the restaurant was not even crowded! There are so many other amazing taco places in San Antonio. Skip this one. I hope they can get back to how their food and service was four years ago.
