Tai Tung has been around forever and for many native Seattleites, including me, is the first place we ever had Chinese food. Lots of memories, and ok food, but there are a lot of other Chinese and other Asian restaurants in the international district with better food. If you do eat here, check out the specials and, if you gave a favorite dish that is not on the menu, ask about it. If it isn't too busy they might make it for you. Avoid sweet and sour anything! Not good. Black bean chicken is usually reliable.

I had the Bruce Lee meal Oyster Beef, very good choice but my daughter ordered the Squid with vegetables and it was super delicious! We also had the Crispy Duck to go for our flight back, it was good hours later too. It was great to see where Bruce Lee came to eat regularly, where he sat and all the memorablia. There was a really cool mural outside the restaurant too.

Not super impressed. I did enjoy the vibe, the place had been around a long time. I felt the food was lacking flavor.

The food was excellent. The restaurant looks the same as when my parents used to bring us here as a child. The food was good, salty, greasy, salty, with Unami. Love it!!

Service was great. From instant help with a spilled glass of water to a lolly pop for an exhausted kid. We loved the food, traditional Chinese, all our favorites.

Great Chinese Food. Nice menu selection of food. Food had great taste. Service was great. Restaurant was very clean and comfortable. One of the last Great Chinese Restaurants in Chinatown.

No, it's not much to look at. And the cash register is probably older than me, and I'm not young. The food is great, the service is great, and the Bruce Lee booth is great. Maybe 2 minutes from King Station. We'll be eating here again.

Saw this restaurant on Seattle Refined and have not had their style of sweet and sour ribs for over fifty years so off my buddy and I go to check this out. Hey no disappointments..they were busy but were seated quickly with tea and menus, soon ordered and food started appearing in less than 5 minutes.Large delicious portions and big bag to go.Kinda expensive..but in this day and age reasonable.Besides..those ribs were worth the trip!

This is a very good, authentic Chinese restaurant. Don’t expect traditional American Chinese food that you find in most restaurants. Each meal comes with complimentary tea, which has outstanding flavor. We ordered egg rolls, garlic shrimp, and Peking style bbq spareribs. All entrees had outstanding flavor, for the garlic shrimp we requested some hot chili sauce to accentuate the flavor of the dish. If you like authentic Chinese food, I highly recommend this restaurant.

We stopped by Chinatown in Seattle while we were waiting for our train trip back to Salem. Servings are large and the food was very tasty. Worth the walk from the train station. Another place we'll keep in mind on our next trip

Very friendly staff, the food is hands down the best Chinese in Seattle, and it's also the oldest chinese restaurant in Seattle! The egg rolls are delicious- and approximately the size of a burrito...yum! Garlic beef is a must have for me, as well as the pork fried rice, lots of left overs too! Will definitely be back

The two others with me were longtime Seattle lights who had never been to Tai Tung. Once there, they appreciated its long history. We had very good food at a very good price and good service. We do plan to return and take some other friends. It was a pleasure to speak with the very pleasant owner on our way out as I had eaten there when his father round the place and also longer ago when his grandfather ran the place

Service was great, food at perfect temperature, flavorful and cooked to perfection. We had shrimp, beef, vegetables, rice, soup and excelent tea!!!

Tai Tung is fabulous. The secret to ordering at Tai Tung is to order some of the specials on the mirror behind counter as you walk in. This restaurant is the oldest continuing Chinese restaurant in Seattle. The walnut prawns are delicious (my favorite). Tai Tung chicken, their egg rolls are hand made and yummy! This restaurant is a favorite for so many. I have been numerous times and overtime I go there and people that have been coming for 30 to 40 years, generations of families.

I had an awesome dinner here with other participants of a seminar I was attending. Everyone's dishes tasted fantastic, and the service was impeccable. The owner joked and laughed with us, and he personally checked on us regularly.

We rarely go out for Chinese food, preferring Thai or Vietnamese Asian cuisines, but when we are in Seattle we try to get to Tai Tung. We ordered the sweet and sour pork (this is the ONLY place I ever order this dish) which is Cantonese style, not the bright red crap so many Chinese restaurants serve. Also got Happy Family, cashew chicken, pork fried rice and string beans. Everything was authentic and delicious!

Ok, so you wont be overwhelmed when you walk into this restaurant but we were told it is the oldest Chinese restaurant in Seattle and know we know why this place has been around so long! Such tasty food at reasonable prices, drink prices good also. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

When you’re craving great Chinese food and want to visit a restaurant that’s been around for decades in the heart of Chinatown look no further than Tai Tung. There menu is quite extensive but they also feature several of their favorite dishes which makes choosing a little bit easier. We started with their hot and sour soup which was the most unique version I have had. Light with great crunch for water chestnuts it was the perfect start to the meal. One of my children devoured the pot stickers while the other inhaled the sweet and sour chicken. The beef chow fun is filled with deliciously crunchy bean sprouts and generous slices of tender steak. The hot pepper chicken has a delicious tang to it. I pretty much licked the leftover sauce off my plate. We took home of their special fried rice as well as we heard that was not to be missed as well but were too full to eat another bite. The portions are generous. The value outstanding. The service was quick and very friendly. Will be back again very soon.

Went here due to recommendation of bus driver. It was authentic and no doubt was the first Chinese Restaurant in Seattle. Very ample quantities(could have easily split a combo luncheon meal but nothing g special and actually very little flavor. I will admit when I see canned (or frozen) veggies used (mushrooms, carrots, peas) it’s a turn off to me. There were nice partitions between tables for privacy, but the cleanliness of the restaurant was VERY poor.

Very friendly staff. A lot of dishes to choose from on the extensive menu. Large portions, so don"t pick too many dishes. Reasonably priced.

I am not sure about the people who did not appreciate this old establishment. Our dinner was pretty authentic with some of the best egg rolls and tofu with pork we ever had. I would have preferred the spareribs to be spicy rather than have a sweet and sour sauce. Overall, it was a great and very reasonably priced dinner.

First time in Seattle and somehow fell upon the oldest Chinese restaurant. We sat at the bar and luckily were able to hang out with the owner and a long time patron of the restaurant (been coming in since the 60s). The owner Harry was rad. He gave us his time to talk about the menu, share a little insight of his life and ask us about ours. It was incredible. Food was incredible as well. The fried squid was my favorite and hit the spot. Two bonuses as well from this location. Two hero's of mine Anthony Bourdain and Bruce Lee had a connection here. Photo on the wall of Tony and Harry taken before he passed. And Bruce has his table marked in the corner. Super cool. Thank you Harry and family! It was excellent to meet you. See you on the slopes!

On a recommendation we had a meal at this very old restaurant. Supposedly one of the oldest Chinese restaurants in Seattle. Walking in the door, you will be underwhelmed but the service is very good. The food?; well disappointing is gratuitous. We found the food to be very bland, a bit greasy but adequate. The one dish that was very good was not on the menu and I was told to ask specifically for this dish. Spicy Eggplant and it was truly great. Again, not great enough to encourage me to return but it did save the night. So, good food, far from great, excellent service, easy to find and park, but would not return.

I started going to Tai Tung 60 years ago with my father. It is on King Street and 6th Ave. Tai Tung stays open late and it has a lot of different styles of Chinese food. Parking is around the corner.

I'm going to go out in a limb here and say most people don't expect exceptional service from most China Town based businesses. This one blows all of those expectations out of the water. Friendly, tasty and priced compatibly for this part of town. They also claim to be the oldest Chinese Restaurant in Seattle... dating back to 1935ish. The are some language barriers with some of the staff, but nothing a big smile and pointing at a menu can't solve. I will be back again.

Tai Tung has been around for years; and despite its "chop suey" sign, the restaurant's menu extends well beyond chow mein, chop suey, and egg foo young. The daily fresh sheets are well worth exploring which is exactly what my companion and I did when we ate lunch there. They are compliant with COVID 19 requirements - spaced out tables and masked servers. Highly recommended.

This is our 2nd visit to Seattle and we made sure to eat in Tai Tung. Their wontop soup is superb comfort food. All our orders are amazingly delicious!

We picked this place because of the numerous positive reviews, and we totally agree with them. The shopfront is pretty small - but with the Tai Tubg Chop Suey sign it is easy to spot. Once inside we noticed a board behind the counter with lots af today’s special dishes. Service was fast and friendly. I took a photo of the specials board before we were shown to our table so we ordered from that pic.! Of course we ordered too much: soup, squid, fish and bok choi. Everything arrived fast, piping hot and delicious. This is one of the tastiest Chinese meals I have had in a long time.

This is one of the oldest Chinese joints in The I.D. and one of the tastiest. not to be missed if you're in Seattle

My son and I love to visit Chinatown's in every location we travel to on business. Decided to try for lunch today. We were just touring around and Tai Tung looked inviting. From the moment we walked in the restaurant was very welcoming! We had a variety of dished and drinks. The Mai Tai's were a great start - very generous bartender! We ordered the Mongolian Beef, the General Tso's Chicken and pork fried rice. Everything was tremendous....and more than enough food! Very reasonable prices. Loved the little tables with the privacy nooks! Great menu selection and very friendly staff. If I had any complaint it would be that the rice came before the soup. There was no time to slowly enjoy the soup before the entire meal came. Next time would request the food be served in courses. Would definitely recommend and would definitely go back. If you like quaint little places in Chinatown, give this a try - you will not be disappointed!

Tai Tung is Seattle’s oldest Chinese restaurant being open since 1935. Yes, Bruce Lee would dine here regularly. In fact, ask for the “Bruce Lee Special” (oyster sauce beef and rice). The food is not authentic so don’t come here if you’re looking for real Cantonese or Hong Kong styled dishes. They do more of an Americanized Chinese menu such as chop suey, egg foo young, almond chicken, sweet and sour pork, chow mein, fried rice, egg drop soup et al. However, those dishes are an important part of American culinary history and Tai Tung does them better than anyone else. Sit at the counter and take in the history while enjoying a complimentary bowl of Chinese cabbage soup while you await your entree.

We were grateful that Tai Tung accepts reservations, as we were a group of 7 with young kids who couldn’t tolerate the typical wait at most of the other Chinese restaurants in the International District. The staff were friendly, especially the waitress who was kind and doting toward the kids. We definitely felt the history of this oldest Chinese restaurant in Seattle, in good ways and bad. The building was in disrepair, with plastic sheeting taped over ceiling panels, chipped Formica tables, sloping floors, and an ancient, dingy bathroom. The experience felt authentic in some ways, and at least the food came out quickly. Sadly, the food was rather ho-hum to say the best. The best dishes were the shrimp fried rice and the cashew chicken. Everything else felt plain and not very flavorful. The lemon chicken was just not good at all, nor the egg-drop soup. We expected the food at this restaurant to be better than Black Pearl, our occasional go-to place in Shoreline, but it was disappointing to say the least. They sent each of the kids away with multiple lollipops and fortune cookies. We had a fun lunch experience in spite of the food and facility, but would try a different option next time.

We went here on the recommendation of folks online. What a terrific find! This is the oldest Chinese restaurant in Seattle and was a great spot to visit after we explored Pioneer Square (adjacent to the International District, where the restaurant is located). We had absolutely delectable egg rolls, terrific bean cake (tofu) soup, wonderful cod with vegetables, and yummy cashew chicken. Prices were reasonable, service was friendly (although some servers didn't speak English, some pointing at the menu worked fine), and the food hit the spot.

This restaurant is a longtime Seattle Chinatown (International District) tradition. I'll start by saying that this is a no frills venue, nothing spectacular about the interior but if you want good authentic Chinese food you've come to the right place. I've been here many times over the years and the food has never failed me. The downside first... The restaurant building has suffered a recent fire and half of the dining area has been cordoned off. They've moved tables closer together in the remaining dining area which makes the place seem uncomfortably crowded. I had to sit sideways at my table to accommodate at person at an adjoining table. A bit unpleasant. Along with that, it seemed as though the waitress was rushing us along in order to turn the table. I would have preferred a more leisurely meal although I understand the necessity to crowd and rush. Hopefully the restoration won't take long but I won't return until is is finished. On to the good... The food is incomparable. The three of us ordered broccoli with beef, a combination plate and fried squid. As soon as we took the table, tea and water were provided. Soon after ordering, complimentary bowls of soup were provided. It was a very flavorful broth with chopped bok choy, no protein but a very nice starter while we waited for our entrees which came quite rapidly. My fried squid was perfectly cooked and was far more abundant than expected. The broccoli dish came with well cooked beef and the broccoli still al dente, unlike most cooks who overcook their vegetables. The combination included almond fried chicken, soft noodles and a vegetable saute; well prepared and plated. Don't go looking for a luxury bathroom but they are clean and serviceable. A great Chinatown experience not to be missed but I'll leave it up to you whether you choose to make it a regular rotation on your restaurant circuit.

Reading that it was the “oldest@ Chinese restaurant in Seattle I thought, well there’s got to be something special here to have been around 80+ years… nah! 80+ years is either a lie or they meant to cook is 80+ years. I’ve eaten better and worse Chinese food. My son once told me, dad if you go to a restaurant with over 15-20 dishes on the menu, walk out is impossible to have that many dishes and have them be any good. Son, you’re so right!

Best Chinese food anywhere! The service is great also. Do yourself a huge favor and have the walnut shrimp and the squid.

Best Chinese food I’ve ever had. I live in Alabama, and came to Seattle for a continuing medical education program. I met my cousins who live here to have dinner together. One of my cousins (who recommended Tai Tung) lived in China for years and taught there. He said Tai Tung has the best Chinese food he has had in the US. I agree with him. 5 months later, I am still dreaming of those pot stickers and Mongolian beef. Yum. Too bad I am all the way across the country and I can’t get it. There is nothing here that compares.

Our hotel (Warwick) clerk recommended Tai Tung as her favorite Seattle restaurant & we could see why. The atmosphere is hole in the wall & very authentic, the food is incredible, & the prices can’t be beat. What a great meal we had!!

Found this little gem via TripAdvisor and it was a real success. We've been back since - prior to a Seahawks game. The service was good, food was good and prices great. We will continue going here.

Not much to look at but the food was great. We had appetizer platter - egg rolls, pork, wings and great suces, sesame seeds, etc. All was excellent but one wing was undercooked. On the table we had pork chop suey, beef hot pot, lemon chicken, calamari, hot and sour soup, and fried rice. All were excellent ( same issue with the chicken though). Of particular note were the chicken fried rice and hot and sour soup. The chop suey, although a pretty basic dish, was very good. If I lived in Seattle this would be a regular stop.

Every time I've come- I've had consistently amazing food, and super friendly staff. Best food in the ID hands down!

We visited because of Bruce Lee but the food was fantastic. There was something for everyone - actually much more than we could eat. Everything was very good. Definitely recommend a visit to the Tai Tung.

Customer service was the best we had a big party of 13 and the owner came out to serve us appetizers and told us about the family meals they offer and the food was super good we ordered about everything we could on the menu to try it all out it did not disappoint us at all it was worth stopping here we want to go back already my kids loved the turning tables in the bigger room and the workers made sure our drinks stayed full and we left satisfied and full

Tai Tung has the best chicken wings I've had at any Chinese restaurant. I love them their house fried rice has improved a lot their deep fry prawns are good and their Chinese beef with greens is pretty good and so was their chicken chow mein. The staff is always friendly I love this place I've been going here since I was a little girl.

Tai Tung must have begun as a Cantonese Restaurant, and it remains so at its heart. However, it now includes a number of Sichuan dishes probably in deference to the tastes of its customers. Since the cod was fresh, we ordered sliced cod with greens off the special menu and barbecued pork. The cod dish was well prepared, and the greens proved to be bok choi. The pork was way to lean, so it was dry and lacked flavor. In the future I'll get my pork across the street at the Kau Kau, but I'll definitely return to Tai Tung for another meal.

Ended up at Tai Tung yesterday twice. Also got food there earlier this week, now that i think of it. To Go food - earlier this week, we had a board meeting, so folks picked up food for 18 folks, most of it from Tai Tung. It was delish. We had chow fun with beef, special chow mein, pea vines. And Chicken Wings. All good, so happy. Yesterday, I ended up at the counter seating twice within 3 hours. Tai Tung's been open since 1937, the oldest Chinese restaurant in the city. This is old school style Cantonese food. If you're looking for dim sum, Din Tai Fung, modern culture - this isn't the place. First time in, my friends let me nibble as I was heading to a meeting - i got a chicken wing, and almost dove into egg foo young, but restrained myself. I was also offered up some soup noodles with baby bok choy, but just met the person and again, restrained myself. When I came back later because I was starving - had the wings and egg foo young. Delish, tasty, great. Other people at the counter also ordered wings, and some ordered egg rolls. Sitting at the counter, saw a lot of folks just running in for take out. Harry, the owner, works the counter. Sweet, kind, nice man.

Wanted to try the crab but had to pre-order as the kitchen does not keep supply. Being tourist from overseas, we had high hopes of dining here and instead we tried the roast duck and scallops with Chinese broccoli. Decent food n portion, sufficient for 2 people. The owners were super friendly. Great dining environment. Typical American Asian food offerings with a long history like the Starbucks store at the public market.

I really loved this place. Totally olde school style Chinese food. Had the Peking Duck, which came in delicious buns instead of pancakes. Also had the egg rolls which were made on sight, and bursting with flavor. Restaurant has a dining room but also has an old diner lunch counter at the entrance. I sat there and spent my meal chatting with Harry, the owner. What a lovely man. Looks like the squid is a house speciality, and that they make a whole host of classic drinks like Scorpion Bowls.

Eating at Bruce Lee’s favorite table with great decor does not make up for food having not changed since 1940. Chop suey. Egg foo yung. Lo Mein Like Grandpa ate on Sundays. It would be better served with panache or a smile. Location is wonderful Prices are high We appreciate this fifth generation business but the food has degraded while Asian Fusion evolved

Returned after fifteen years...what was excellent is now only average...will enjoy the memories of the past and look for a new excellent.

This is a great Chinese restaurant. Don't expect any fancy decor here, just really tasty food! We found service to be quick and food at a reasonable price. Even the fortune cookies were fresh, not factory made.

If you are willing to wait for a table, this is a must try. Or, get there by 5.30pm for an early dinner. Great food at reasonable prices. The sushi and sashimi are delicious. The combination dinner sets are value for money. Sesame chicken and teriyaki beef recommended. Enjoy

The food is not bad but I feel its taste has skewed towards the western taste already. Not the 100% Hong Kong kind of Chinese food.

I remember many times over the years visiting Tai Tung from way back in high school, so I love to stop in when in Seattle. We had a late night dinner of their fabulous BBQ pork, wonton soup, special mixed chow mein and the only sweet and sour pork that I like. The restaurant still looks old (because it is) but it just adds to the atmosphere.

I used to eat here a lot 40 years ago as a millennial recently moved to the big city. I ate there last night as a senior citizen, before ypthe Sounders soccer game, The decor has not been updated since I was last there but prices have....The place is still popular, was packed and service slow. The food is still good, not spectacular but good. Ample portions, I will not wait another 40 years to return (since I won’t be eating out 40 years from now)! .

This place has been around forever. Appearance wise it is a rather bedraggled but the food is outstanding. I'd not been here in 20 years but when out of town company visited my wife suggested Tai Tung and I'm happy she did. Everyone loved all of the dishes we had. TIP: Park in the lot behind the restaurant on the NE corner of Maynard & Weller. Nothing indicates it is free parking but DO NOT put any money in the pay box just park and go straight to the restaurant and let them know what stall you are parked in.

We first went here looking for meat filled egg rolls. Most places in Chinatown had only vegi egg rolls. We walked in and the owner, Harry, went out of his way to make us the most delicious egg rolls filled with beef, green vegetables, mushrooms, and so much more. They were the best!!! Harry made these for us in July 2013 when we were on our honeymoon. We went back in December 2014 while on vacation and he remembered us!!! We asked Harry to make us some to bring back to Montana and he agreed and charged us so reasonably!! Excellent food! Excellent service!! Tell Harry Nancy and Carson, the teachers from Montana sent you!!!

Enjoyed our meal here a great deal. The helpings are enormous - beware of over-ordering. Very friendly staff too.

If you are looking for a true Chinatown experience, Tai Tung is the place to go! It has been there forever, and the food is reliably good. I've eaten there more times than I can count over a fifty year time span. This visit was a friends get-together, and we had an absolutely wonderful time! This is the only place I'll eat sweet and sour because it is Cantonese style, honey-colored, not red-dyed sauce. This time we had it with shrimp instead of pork, still delicious. The curry beef, chop suey noodles, garlic green beans and another shrimp dish were all very good. We were never rushed, so we had plenty of time to catch up while eating a yummy meal.

Venerable Chinese dining in Seattle's historic Chinatown. Lots of the older places have closed shop in recent years, but Tai Tung still goes on. Unpretentious, even has a lunch counter. Don't expect table cloths and prepare for booth seating. This restaurant maintains late hours with a diverse menu including all of the old established favorites. If you try one of the combo meals you will get full portions of 3 dishes. But whatever you decide on, the plate will be full, rice and tea will be supplied, and the mustard will be hot.

I would have rated this place average had the waiter not messed up two out of eight orders at our table including mine. I'm normally leery of an Asian restaurant that has chop suey or chow mein on the menu because of the inherently phony origin of both dishes. I asked for cha jang mien, which I have had probably a hundred times in Korea, China and the U.S. and ended up with a bowl of noodles in some kind of tomato sauce. Not even close. My wife ordered and was told by the waiter to try the chow mein because it was better. Another lady gave up and accepted the lemon chicken rather than insist on the dish she ordered.

We had lunch yesterday. I hadn't been to this restaurant since the 80's. My friend had never been. I told him that you only order off the fresh board and not the menu. By the way my friend is Chinese. We started with Hot and Sour soup. We agreed it was a water down version of Hot and Sour soup. Awful. Then we had the special Szechuan scallops and the Chef special chow mein. The Scallop dish was terrible with the smallest of scallops in a tomato type sauce that was almost sweet and sour. The Chow mein was good. When I complained about the scallop dish they took it off our bill. Needless to say that with all the great Chinese restaurants in the Seattle area we wont go back to Tai Tung.

We were one of the first to enter for an early lunch on a weekday and the restaurant filled quickly. The guotie (fried dumplings) are delicious. Try the duck and the fried rice too. The restaurant has been here for more than 80 years. This is some accomplishment.

My husband visited this restaurant on a visit to Seattle & after reading the reviews on line we really wanted to try it. We got there around 5 pm and there was no wait. We love sizzling rice soup & were very pleased that it was on the menu. It was wonderful, easily enough for 3-4 people. Also ordered crab fried rice & the chefs special chow main. Everything was wonderful as was the service. We will definitely be back next time we’re in Seattle

We had a few hours in Seattle after an Alaskan cruise and were told there was an amazing Chinese restaurant in China town that was the oldest in Seattle. We were dubious because oldest doesn't mean the best! Our hopes weren't dashed at all. The interior definitely looks like it's the oldest restaurant in China town, and we were glad for that. As they say "if it ain't broke..." We ordered the hand made egg rolls (as another reviewer on here suggested them) and the chefs special chow mein Hong Kong style and the Mongolian beef. Our waiter suggested rice as well. All the main dishes were delicious with layered flavors. Even the rice was fantastic. The standout was the beef. The complimentary egg drop soup was so flavorful and the egg rolls were amazing! We thought at first we had over ordered as all the dishes were large. We even joked about taking the rest with us back to LA, but we ended up eating everything as it was so delicious with great quality ingredients. When we visit Seattle again we'll definitely be back.

So excited to be in Seattle’s International District, we opted for a “top 10” restaurant. Reviews seemed promising of Tai Tung. Every place can have an off night. Tonight must have been VERY off. Szechuan duck tasted old; bbq spareribs were tasty but meat was tough; fried squid was average at best. If you enjoy basic-style fried rice, then order the shrimp version. Mushroom Egg Flower Soup was nicely mild with light flower. Service was very pleasant. The food came efficiently. Not likely to go back with so many places to check out.

We had high hopes as we read other reviews. This place is definitely old and not in a charming way. The walls were dirty, the table was sticky, some of the silverware looked dirty, the chairs were old and worn out. Wasn't an inviting place to eat, made you sort of feel like you didn't want to touch anything. The service isn't much, took about 10 mins before anyone even noticed us standing there, they don't come back to check on you after you get your food. Which brings me to the food. The eggrolls were strange, the wonton soup was good, the pork fried rice good, the rest of it was ehh, no one cared for the sweet and sour sauce, the chow mein or the general tso's chicken. We will not be back. I guess we can say we visited the oldest Chinese Restaurant in Seattle and that is the only take away.

The sign said Established in 1935. Rather than eat at one of the newer stainless still restaurants, we decided to go with some history. This is it. Delicious food, reasonable prices, excellent service and lots of atmosphere. We will return.

Decided to go before a Seahawk game. Hadn’t been there for years. Should have known since it was pretty empty. Introductory soup was lukewarm. Fried rice tasted burned. Sweet and sour pork had way too much breading. Kung pau chicken tasted like it was made with ketchup and had a rather large bug in it. Don’t think it was a cockroach. Looked more like a beetle. See picture. Bummer as I️ have really fond memories of the place from my childhood. Will never go back and, in fact, it will probably be a long time before I️ can eat any Chinese food.

We were recommended to visit Seattle's oldest Chinese restaurant and we were not disappointed! The food is amazing (and this is coming from Chinese Food lovers who have lived in New York and San Fran) and the staff could not have been nicer and more helpful. The hostess/owner Rebecca went out of her way to ensure our experience was top notch, including seating us for inspiration at the very table Bruce Lee regularly ate his Beef with Oyster Sauce (!) (we had it too of course) and ensuring we finished on time for the 15 minute stroll down to T Mobile so we could catch the early start of Edgar Martinez's Hall of Fame celebration night. A night to remember for sure and we will certainly be back. 10 stars if we could give it!!

Many a nice meal here. I like to look at the "special" board and find some stuff that the locals like. If you are undecided go with the broth soup to start and some broccoli beef BBQ Pork and then some kind of rice.

Delicious, fresh, friendly, homey, historic chinese restaurant. Reasonably priced. We went as a family and will return again.

The restaurant looks somewhat like a hole in the wall, but we decided to give it a try and we were very glad! The majority of patrons were of Asian descent so we were confident we had picked well. The chicken fried rice the kids ordered was the best I had ever tasted. The adults got the seafood combination and beef and mushrooms which we shared. Both were excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant

We came here after being referred. Tai Tung did not disappoint. The lunch was great, the scallops were tasty and the crab meat chow mien was a nice surprise. The best surprise was the Plum wine! The service was great they even met our gluten free request for my wife.

don't be put off by the funky entrance or the crowds on holidays..if you don't see what you want on the extensive menu ask, they probably will accommodate you..all items are fresh

Celebrated my birthday with great round table dinner for 12. Wonderful assistance from staff in selecting menu.

Tai Tung was a find on a rainy day when cooking at home was just NOT an option. We over-ordered for our needs; Mongolian beef, Pansitt and egg rolls. The egg rolls were outstanding! Hot, fresh ingredients and a deep fried crisp exterior that was pure and delightful decadence. The Pansitt was yummy and the glass noodles tongue teasing goodness. We were less impressed with the bland Mongolian beef. However, this was one of several subsequent forays for the precious egg rolls. Will resist with a secondary review for a dine in experience.

Visiting the kids here in Seattle from the Midwest and had to get the pork BBQ appetizer as we can't get it back home in Illinois. Need fried rice was supper yummy also!!! Cashew chicken, pot stickers all awesome!!!!

Very good family classic restaurant. Thanks Harry he cooks up a great meal. Price is reasonable for the dishes.

Great selection, I asked the server about some noodle options and decided on beef chow mein. Lots of bok choi, beef and water chestnuts. I added a little sambal and it was great. They have a limited dim sum menu and the shrimp balls were very tasty. A light cabbage soup and tea is served promptly after seating which was great because I was hungry! With so many options in the area we'll try a few others but am sure we'll be back to dive further into the menu.

This place can boast it is the oldest restaurant still open in Seattle. Over 100 years. That is about as far as its accolades go. Have come here a few times over the past 50 years and had some rather interesting meals in this place. For special occasions they cook up some real funky authentic Chinese dishes that you might be hesitant to just to take a picture of. The typical Chinese food you might order from this restaurant or any other just simply isn't worth writing home about. There are far better choices within half a block of this place. Pick one of those and you can't go wrong. One extra star because it's the oldest

chicken wings/drummetts very good. Service better..garlic pea pods perfect. cabbage soup comes w/ order. dumpling soup additional. must ask for h20. 4 pgs of items from which to choose. tight seating. 83 yrs in business.

The name is a little deceiving. We thought it would be Thai but turned out to be Chinese. The wait for a table was a bit long but it turned out to be worthwhile! Everything the 4 of us had was great!! This place is a Seattle institution.

Delicious food and friendly service. Everything tastes fresh and spot on with spice and flavor. Strongly recommend the egg rolls and garlic shrimp!

I grew up in the New York City area and remember going to Chinese (especially Cantonese) restaurants all the time. Unfortunately, most are long gone, replaced with greasy take out joints and overpriced ‘Asian fusion’ establishments. Upon a recommendation from my guide at the nearby Wing Luke Museum, I stopped in for lunch. I took a seat at the bar and was promptly greeted by a friendly older gentleman who brought me over a glass of hot tea. I perused the extensive menu and decided on the chicken and mushroom chop suey. The portion was quite large and full of white meat chicken slices, huge mushrooms and lots of fresh and tasty veggies. The sauce was delicious - not too heavy, but very flavorful. A small soup came with my meal. I liked the old-time decor (circa 1960’s). Be sure to check out the table in the back where Bruce Lee used to eat. (Anthony Bourdain stopped in for a meal here several years ago and raved about it). Prices are very reasonable and portions large. Best if you go with a group so you can order several dishes and share.

First timer. Referred by local. Looking for veggy fried rice and hit the jackpot. Not only good fried rice but also a former Bruce Lee eatery. Couldn’t pass this opportunity by. One hr before closing on a Sunday. Something I don’t do with most restaurants, is eat food 1 hr before closing for many reasons. Greeted and seated quickly. Order to table was about 10-12 mins. Temp-hot, taste/freshness-good, quantity-just enough, price-fair for Seattle, service-good. Will return when back in Seattle.

I was in Seattle for a business meeting with some Chinese vendors, so seeing the reviews regarding the oldest Chinese place in town decided to try it. We were the fairly early on a week night and we were the only customers in the house - not necessarily bad, but.... We ate family style at a Lazy Susan table, service was attentive, the food came quickly, and it was ok. Based on the reviews I had read I'm afraid our expectations had been set too high.

We visited Tai Tung by chance as we were looking for somewhere in Chinatown. The restaurant looked smart from the outside, and the 1935 heritage was another pull factor. Once inside, it took several minutes to find anyone who would seat us. A small boy eventually found us a table and menus, but it was another long stretch before anyone came to take our order. When we asked for the wifi password, we were told dismissively to ask the 'boss' as the waitress didn't know. The hot and sour soup was good, and generously portioned. Unfortunately the meal went quickly downhill from there. Though there was a lot of it, the tofu was completely tasteless, although garnished with some miserable scraps of pork and chilli. The lemon chicken looked like battered fish, and, I'm told, was equally flavourless. A mountain of rice and chilli sauce just about rescued the lunch. Perhaps we ordered the wrong things. What we ate was quite unpalatable. The combination of poor service and poor food left us very disappointed.

We just don't know how this place can survive since 1935! The food was awful! The menu was extensive but many were not actually available! I think they should be honest and re do the menu, because it can lead clients into the restaurant, thinking they would be able to order a specific dish listed on the menu, but was told not available once seated and had tea.... The crispy chicken was hard and dry when it was suppose to be crispy outside and tender and juicy inside, served with spiced salt which was not available here. The black cod was at least decent. The fried prawn was just a lump of batter over a very tiny shrimp that was tasteless. We discarded the batter and just ate the tasteless prawn inside using the gravy of the steamed black cod to get some taste. The hot and sour soup taste like from a can or an instant package. Perhaps they were great once upon a time but no longer so.

This is the best Chinese food I have ever had and I have been to China! The staff were excellent and helped advise my vegetarian daughter on a suitable choice, which she thoroughly enjoyed. I would recommend this place it seems very authentic and we will return next week and if we return to Seattle, which I hope to, we will be returning to this restaurant.

Can’t fault this place fir real local Chinese. Best Bao with duck ever. Small and busy full of Lucas’s always a good sign. Big portions and great value

We had a great experience here, traditional Chinese food the way we like it. Enjoyed it so much went there again the next day.

Bland overpriced food in the oldest Chinese restaurant in Seattle. The egg foo yong had no flavor and was shockingly expensive for a Cantonese place. Service was okay and the ambiance decent but really, there are far better places in town.

Tai Tung has has operated at the same location since 1935. We had lunch at this venerable establishment yesterday. Food was great, especially the Peking duck. Owner and servers were gracious and attentive. Decor hasn't been updated for decades- which in my opinion, is much of the charm. Tai Tung is authentic. We'll be back.

After having read couple of rewievs from google, Yelp etc we decided to try this place out as we we staying in rbnb in the neighbourhood. In short We didn´t agree to the rewievs, not at all. The place needs urgently some renovation and the first impression aslmos tkicked us out. The food was shall we say mediocre, not bad at all but nothing to justify staying in such environment. We were very disapointed sorry to say.

Wow Time flies, How many restaurants were around long before I was even born, add another sixty three years since then and this place has Seattle History Wrapped around it's historical heritage. Sunday mornings were your come to Tai Tung time when I was a child. old even back then, gum stuck to the underside of the tables, and then stuck to my pants by the time I got home from sitting in the hi chairs. Learned to use Chop Stiks here. The food always very good. This is the place I really learned to eat "real Chinese food" not off the shelf Chow mien but Deep fried crab in black bean sauce, squid, pork belly rice noodle, so many memories. The best part about Tai Tung, as near as I can decide, things besides the decor and price nothing about the foods changed over all these years. This isn't Spicy Schewaan style burn your mouth chinese, but soft, elegant flavours, where every traditional dish has it's own distinct flavours. All time favourites, The Hum Bow early Sunday morning, Shrimp in Balck bean Sauce, Crab in Black Bean Sauce, Egg fu Yung, Squid. Truly a seattle Landmark Restaurant

Stopped here for lunch during a visit to Seattle. The egg rolls are indeed fabulous. The portions were large, so don't over order. The staff was very helpful in recommending vegetarian dishes for us to try. Everything was fresh and delicious.

Seattle’s Chinatown is such a wonderful place to visit and explore. We were looking for an authentic Chinese meal, and Tai Tung didn’t disappoint. It is Seattle’s oldest Chinese restaurant, established in 1935. To be in business for 90 years, you must be doing something right. Every dish was delicious. There was a limitless supply of tea (perfect for all cool autumn day), and the house fried rice was among the best I have ever tasted. I also had egg foo young for the first time. Yum!! The Bruce Lee display was fun to check out. Great meal at a very reasonable price. Thank you!!

Tai Tung says they are the oldest Chinese restaurant in Seattle and they are seemingly proud of this by looking around you can see it in the rich and varied items in and around the interior displayed they showcase. The red stools and the colorful fish tank contrast with the sometimes seemingly darkish lighting inside and interestingly moody interior for a contrast. There are old framed Seahawks team photos, various old articles on the wall from newspapers, there are photos of dignitaries and as well of various celebrities which are interesting and they also serve to show the age of this place, not just giving you something to do by looking around as you wait for your dinner to arrive but to let you absorb in the ambiance here. You half expect also to find Micheal Madsen or Tom Sizemore to maybe be in a darkened corner as well speaking in hushed tones doing an illegal deal then looking up at you and giving you a "what do YOU want ?" look. It feels like you 90 percent went out to eat dinner and ten percent to be a background person in a Quentin Tarantino movie. The menu is all the usual favorites which you would expect and also a decently big wine and cocktails list which you don't expect to find here. There are LOTS of specialty dishes, far more than any "normal" Chinese place would have. Large family style dinner selections are also available which seem perfect for big families and larger groups to choose. Overall I found my dinner to be "okay"and decently tasty, but not exactly memorable in my opinion.I am still glad I chose to come however because of the ambiance. Service was friendly and with a smile and decently fast and the prices are about average and what you would find elsewhere. I recommend coming here at least for the "feeling" of the place one time and see what you think.

An amazing authentic Chinese restaurant and experience in the heart of the Chinatown/International district. We stayed in Seattle for 4 days and came here for dinner twice. Large dish portions and excellent food —> the Tai Tung chow mein is to die for!!! Staff were exceptional; super accomodating and they remembered our names when we came the second time. Feels like a step back in time to traditional dining. Can’t recommend this place enough!!

As soon as you walk in there is a smell that is not pleasant, but comes from the fact the place looks like it has not had reparations done in a long time, I almost turned away because was worried the smell would be too much but once all the way inside we appreciate the good smell of food, service was good, the food was delicous, the hot and sour soup was excellent, my fav dish was the garlic shrimp, the beef in oyster sauce was also excellent, and my kids devoured the chicken chow mein. I only give 4 stars because the place inside does need some major repairs and tune up that could make restaurant more applealing.

Decent place for real Chinese Food. Right in the heard of International District. Friendly group at the counter.

My friend and I went to this place during the holidays. The staff here is really friendly. The food here was at a very reasonable price. This places has pretty good ambience to say the least. I've been to many other Chinese restaurants in this part of Seattle, and this restaurant's prices are very competitive. The service was excellent. They had a tremendous variety of food. You might be able to take a date here if she doesn't have expensive taste. This place is friendly for families (and their budgets). I was impressed by the prices for their seafood dishes. You simply can't go wrong by eating her if you love Chinese food.

My parents introduce me to our family restaurant Tai Tung since I was a baby. I've just turned 60yrs old and Tai Tung is still our family restaurant including both my children. The waiters I grew up with are still there along with a couple of new younger faces, but the food is still prepared the same and still tastes wonderful! All the staff are great they treat you like family, when your at the door they smile big and say hello come on in. The decor is not the best because it's an historic place and its old, But the food is what shines! My favorite is Chinese style spareribs with black bean sauce try it and enjoy!
Ask for the Special Drink....
When we arrived we had a slight wait and I'm glad we did because we were introduced to their special drink that got a beautiful couple such as us Married. Since we are already married we figured we could experience that feeling all over again and I got to say it was Great!!! We ordered our food and surprisingly ate it all and we ordered a lot. The Almond Fried Chicken was awesome and with the Sauce on the side it's just brilliant. We will be going again as we like to share Bruce Lee jokes after a few of their Wedding Drinks.
