Visited with family friends, including 2 children & 2 teens. The restaurant was very hospitable, including to the children. The tables are set with linen table cloths and napkins. There is lovely Indian decor and music (which I like as it sets the tone of the experience.) We started with mimosas (fried dough with vegetable or lamb - we had both. There are 2 per order. They are very tasty and served with 3 different, spicy sauces. For entrees we had chicken teka, lamb teka, and a fancy rice with chicken mixture (like Indian fried rice.) The teka dishes were served with delicate jasmine rice. We asked for mild spice, which was pleasant and not too hot. It was a lovely and delicious dinner.

I went for lunch here yesterday and it was very good. It helped to have my son with me who knows a lot about food and different cuisines. I am not a big curry fan so I had to order around that and my son was a big help. I was very surprised how much I liked the food. I really enjoyed it. The food was fresh and tasty. Good service and an all around great experience. I had an appetizer that was a potato dumpling that was very good. I had a chicken dish that was excellent and the bread is top notch. Prices were very reasonable for the quality of the food. I will be going back to this place.

My husband and I come here often for both lunch and dinner. We find the food consistently good and the service to be excellent excellent.

Consistently great food and service. We have been visiting Taj Mahal for over 10 years both sit down and delivery...we are never disappointed. Highly recommended stop if you are in Bay Ridge Brooklyn.

We have been going here monthly for a few years now because they have been consistent in both quality of food and service. They offer a few Dinner Specials which are an excellent deal. The special comes with soup, an appetizer plate, naan, rice, entree, dessert and coffee--all very tasty and so much food! One of our favorites is the Tandoori Chicken--so yummy and moist. We just love coming back because the staff is incredibly nice, polite and the service is top-rate for a local place in Bay Ridge.

Selling 8 dollar bottle for 32 dollars and also they refuse to let the customer taste the wine before they buying it.

I eat her ALL the time and love the food just as much as I love the service and the prices.

Love this restaurant! Food is superb and service is great. Go for a fixed menu - much better value than a la carte.

The food was fresh and excellent. The staff was helpful, knowledgeable and saved me from the Vindaloo. If you've never had Indian Food, this is a good place to start.

Really good Indian food, though the ambience is a bit... depressing. Staff is very polite. I prefer to order delivery.

I went here with my husband the other night for dinner. He loves very spicy food but I prefer mild to medium spice. Both of us were very happy with our dinner. I ordered the Tandoori dinner which comes with some appetizers (a samosa, papadum, some pakora and some soup), 3 different kinds of meat dishes (lamb curry, tandoori chicken and seekh Kabob), naan, rice and vegetables, dessert and tea or coffee. All for only $19.95! All of the food was delicious. My husband and I shared the appetizers and naan bread. He had chicken vindaloo, a very spicy dish. The way he described it was “very tasty and very spicy but not break-a-Sweat-spicy”. For him it was just right. My husband and I also shared a 22-ounce Taj Mahal beer which was nice and light. The dessert was a coconut rice pudding which my husband ate. Ambiance is very nice too. The only reason I give 4 and not 5 Stars is because although the waiter was very nice, we ordered some raita to go with dinner and it never came, nor did the waiter come back in time for us to as for it again. They also never asked me if I wanted coffee or tea which was supposed to come with my meal. It wasn’t that crowded but toward the end of the meal we felt like they were rushing us out. We would still go back to this restaurant. Overall we were happy and the food was excellent.

Went here for lunch. Impressed by pretty environment and linen table cloths (for lunch?) They gave us complementary papadum (lentil crackers) with condiments. Had the chicken biryani which was good but not the best I have ever eaten. Chicken vindaloo was spicy as requested. Came with white biryani rice which had cumin seeds and was very well prepared. We had Firni or Kheer for dessert (can't remember) which had an orange color probably from saffron. Never saw that before. But it was very good. The service was friendly and attentive.

This has been my go to Indian place for the last few years. I'm no expert but the food is tasty (and not oily like Indian food can be). Service staff is friendly and quick. The prices are very reasonable. I definitely recommend this place.

Research this restaurant and the delicious food pics sold us. My hubhy and I are big fans of Indian food so this was another great gem. My family really enjoyed it and we'll definitely be back. If you're looking for great food and a reasonable price this is the place.

Best Indian in Brooklyn.

You will experience an ambience (decor, music, and customer service) that is coupled with deliciously tasteful food to leave you well satisfied. They make it difficult for my wife and I to eat Indian food elsewhere. Their prices are very reasonable as well.

This was one of the few times in NY that I ordered in food because I & a friend wanted to watch the Prez debate. The food from Taj Mahal was very good, even to my discerning taste for Indian food

I'm a bit disappointed here. The flavors were not as multidimensional as I was hoping. There achar is good, as well as their breads. I need to try it a few more times to be sure.

supremely courteous staff. everything was unique and tasty.

Ive had their takeout before, and Ive been eating Indian food for over 30 years between NYC , Queens and Long Island. We decided to go to the restaurant this time. We took the LIRR in from Nassau county to Brooklyn and uber'd it there...(If it wasn't so cold out, we'd have walked). The place was nothing special,decor-wise, but was PERFECT to see how the food was without all the distractive stuff you'd see in a fancy over priced place. The Mulligitawny soup ( forgive spelling errors), was great. As was the pappadam and chutneys served. We had chicken vindaloo, sag paneer, etc, garlic nan, samosa, and more. Perfect, just perfect. Then they brought out lassis, sweet and mango, and honey balls for dessert. and the price fr the 4 of us was under 75.00. Its worth the trip if your in the area, or not, and in the mood for good food, ***** :-)

“Great Indian Food in the Heart of Bay Ridge” 5 of 5 starsReviewed January 11, 2014 NEW My family and I have eaten here several times and this past New Year's Eve, just my wife and I. As always, the staff are very friendly and accommodating. I am in a wheelchair and the place was packed...yet they found and made room at a nice table for us. Even though I haven't tried every item on the menu, I can tell you that the many dishes, breads, appetizers, drinks and desserts I had were absolutely DELICIOUS. All of the main dishes are spiced very nicely and smell fantastic...and are so tasty. The menu is very descriptive so there won't be any surprises. The decor is nice and comforting and there is plenty of space between tables so you won't feel cramped. The waiters are very helpful if you have any questions and you are not rushed. The price is very, very reasonable. I never felt that I was getting "ripped off". I would give this restaurant a try. You won't be disappointed.

I was in Bay ridge on Sunday and decided to go to another restaurant, however, that did not happen and so I ended up at Taj Majal. Their food continues to be enjoyable, their wait staff courteous and helpful. I had the chicken tikka masala and it was fresh and tasty, it came out hot, just like I wanted it. The prices are quite reasonable and it is a place I would return to. Before the meal, i indulged in their samosas, and they too were hot and tasty. I was there with 4 other family members, one of them my grand son who enjoyed his papperdum. He is 2 years old.

We went there three adults and a 3 years old for a dinner. As favourites of Indian cuisine, also with experience in India itself, we are always keen on these restaurants. Taj is a restaurant rather than Indian eatery. It gives importance to atmosphere and serving. We started with complementary papadam and chutney. They were very good, HaVing the papadam tangy but not filled with black pepper. We ordered veg biryani, bhindi and of course malai kufta which is our favourite dish. Almost every indian restaurant has it, but it is made very different. The sauce of this one was good and delecate, while the kufta itself had a bit dull taste comparing to the richness found in other variations. The other dishes were comparably good, meaning - very good level but missing the wow to get the necessary wow for the excellent. The desert - kulfi - an ice cream Indian style was very good, and it was accompanied by complementary rice puddings, which were nice. The disappointing point was that the spiced indian tea was only water with chai extract, and cold milk on the side. This is not more than a chai aboard an Indian train, yet every chai wala in the streets of India will make a better tea... But overall we enjoyed it very much and as i titled it, western folks wont run away due to too much spice that is usually catered in Indian restaurants, despite it is how it should be.

Don't let the outside fool you, what looks like fast food from the outside, is so elegant inside. Not the first time I have been here, but the food is great so I had to go back. They give you free fried lentil balls as an appetizer, delicious. So many menu choices. And the price? I had to check the bill twice, because I thought they forgot to charge me. A soup, side, entree, soda and tax was only $26!!! Formal dining at a casual price. How do they make money? All throughout the meal, they kept asking, "How is everything?", "Can I get you anything?", "I hope you are enjoying." Can't wait to go back!

A great ambiance with good service. The food is fresh and tasty if not outstanding. Paratha bread and garlic Nann were nice. Cucumber salad was good as were Bengal shrimp and chicken beryani. Not the best Indian I ever had but adequate and enjoyable. I have other Indian restaurants I prefer but worth a try.

My favorite cusuine is Indian. This is by far the best. Food is always yummy and fresh. We've dined in and they usually give you a free app. Not sure if they do anymore because now we order in. It seems huge when we order in- its already big when we ate in house- now imagine it's even bigger when we take out. It's always hot when it arrives, too. Outrageous.

Excellent food, great value, very good service

This small Indian restaurant in Bay Ridge has a typical menu of curries, biryanis and Tanddoris. Service is pretty good. Portion is large and price reasonable. The food, however, is not Indian at all. Although the dishes looks Indian, the taste is bland. Nothing is exceptional. Probably I will not come back.

Everything went great here! I was here 2 times and I fully enjoyed my meal, drinks and service. Only great recommendations!

As with India Passage, the food is really forgettable and bland. I realize that the owners are probably dumbing down the food because they think the "whiteys" can't take the heat. I can take the heat, and I would like it with flavour, please. I miss authentic South Indian cuisine, and unless I make it myself (it takes me 3 days to make a developed hot flavour-rich curry), it seems I'll never be able to go out and be served it. We had asked for the kitchen to make it the "real" way. Hah. They dumped extra chili powder on it. Just more hot, but no flavour. I can do that at home, so what. They think everyone who is not Indian is stupid I guess. It is a shame, because I think it they really took the time to make the real yummy hot spicy flavourful deal, they would have alot more people coming out for them. I know I would be a loyal patron if they did. Unless they start putting real authentic heat, spice, and flavour into their food, I'll never have a reason to go there again.

we've been going here for quite sometime and it has always been good. We've brought friends here for lunch and dinner and everything is always great. The staff is very pleasant and helpful. The food is really good and the portions are large! I always bring my Chicken Tika Biriyani home for another great meal for my husband!!! Quite the find!!

This is a very nice place. I am giving it four stars, rather than five, because it is nothing out of the ordinary. I liked the food and the atmosphere, and have been there more than once. The staff is also nice, and the prices are good. Nothing really stands out, but I do recommend it for a solid meal and a nice night out. You can't go wrong dining at this fine establishment that has been at this location for quite some time.

Our family went to this restaurant yesterday under a snow storm to celebrate my son and my niece's bday! I could not believe my eyes when I walked in and saw all this ppl eating in there weather was really terrible! Never have we've been there before, it did not disappoint , service was really good, food was delicious , and when they found out it was a bday celebration lights got dimmed, Bollywood music came on, it was a beautiful great surprise ! Can't wait to go back!

Another joint run by non-Indians who fool cutomers who are not knowledgeable about Indian food.Everything is pathetic.Dal Bhuna is sold as Dal Tadka, a paratha is made on tawa and is as thick as Cibatta bread. When we went, all customers were non-Indians except us.I can imagine why they all think that they are eating Indian food which is a nothing but a XXXXXXdeshi version of Punjabi and Mughlai food.

I enjoyed a good indian dinner at the Taj mahal restaurant in Bay ridge, brooklyn. The food was good, the service great, and the price even better. Will definitely return. Enjoyed their samosas, and their lamb sagg. Others had chicken tikka masala, and tandori meals are they were prepared just right. The only draw back, I had my two grand kids with me, there was one other baby there, and they were short one high chair. All in all, it was still a great evening at the restaurant.

A delivery as we moved in to our new apartment. Delicious selections. Hope to visit soon. A real treat.

I've eaten at this restaurant several times. The food is always fresh and delicious. The waiters are excellent....very polite and attentive, yet not overbearing. The prices are good too. I highly recommend this place.

I must preface by stating that BayRidge is not known as a culinary destination - finding a great meal with good service is an exception and not the rule - so when I came across this gem I was elated. The staff are very attentive and courteous without being overbearing and meal prices are easy on the wallet. The food is wonderful that you can't go wrong with any of your selections. Be advised of a limited beer menu, although the 2 Indian beers are quite good. It was a great find in a neighborhood that could benefit from more businesses like this one.

Love this place!!! The food is always good. The service always attentive and on point. My favorite are the dinner combos there are a few of them. Gives you a chance to try different things. In the summer they set tables outside i love this place!!!!

Has a good menu and genuine Indian tasting food - near the heart of the main Indian district in New York area

We eat here all the time. The food is excellent with quality service. You feel pampered when you eat here. If you order food, it is delivered promptly and is hot and fresh. If you like Indian food, this is the place.

My husband has been living in Bay-ridge for over 7 years, and has never eaten at this restaurant until June-2012. I randomly said I want to try Indian food and I did my google research and this restaurant popped up. We've had a lot of food trouble in Bay-ridge so we were surprised to see the great reviews of this restaurant. We travel to Park Slope or Carroll Gardens for dinner most weekend nights, however, this is our new spot for sure! Our first time there I at the vegetable curry because I don't like too much meat, and it was insanely good. We went there the following weekend BOTH Saturday and Sunday night, and I ate the Okra & tomato dish and then the chana masala (chickpea dish)...BOTH INCREDIBLE. Not only is the food spectacular and fresh, but the service is so attentive. I drink so much water and never once was my glass empty. They're always checking on you and making sure everything is okay, but know when to give you your space, too. Great place, great indian food, great service, great prices, and great atmosphere. Plus, it's 3 blocks away! This is our new spot in Bay-ridge.... surprisingly it's so good considering we've tried so many other restaurants CLOSE-BY that have been pretty yucky. Very happy to find this one. Going to take my family there within the next few weeks. YUM!

Amazing!!! Authentic atmosphere and food! Waiters are very polite. Chicken tikka masala is a must! Cant wait to go back.

After seeing the reviews my wife and I went to Taj Mahal. As typical for us, we ordered way too much as the main course portion sizes were huge, so don't bother with an appetiser. We had the Chicken Biriyani and Lamb Saag. The biriyani was very good but the saag not so much, we felt there was too much lamb favour rather than saag spices shining through. Service was fantastic throughout the night and this bumped up the rating for 3 to a 4.

I never miss a chance to visit the Taj Mahal when I visit Brooklyn. The food is great and the service is flawless. I had the lamb Rogen Josh which was delicious. There is always enough to take home and enjoy again the next day. This restaurant is a great taste of India in Bay Ridge.

I went to this restaurant with a friend and was surprised to see that it was packed on a Wednesday nite. Even though the restaurant was busy the service was excellent. Our waiter was very attentive and also gave us some good recommendations on what to order. They offer combinatin dinners which are very reasonably priced and give you ALOT of food. They only offer beer and wine at this restaurant but the wine they serve which is supposedly the house wine was pretty decent. Plus where can you get a glass of wine with dinner for $3.95? The ambiance is very nice and warm. They are also very enthusiastic when celebrating a birthday. Someone at the other table was celebrating and they turn the lights down, hit the disco lights and disco balls, play some funky kind of music and come out singing. It was hysterical and we thought that was great. Definitely try this place...it is great!

We try to get here at least 6 times a year and we are always pleased and satisfied. We usually get a chicken dish, a lamb dish and a shrimp dish. We will be going back for sure!
