We had a wonderful dinner. The garlic naan was delicious and the chicken Tikka Marsala as perfect. The service was excellent. This was my first visit but I plan to return. A friend says the lunch buffet is very good. Can't wait to try it!

I've eaten a Taj palace numerous times. There you go.. one of the "Phinickiest" eaters in town going to someplace more than one time that says it all. Taj palace has always been one of my Mainstays as far as that sort of food and... Well it speaks for itself. I'm going to leave a little mystery here... Go for it you won't be disappointed!

Arrived about 7.30 pm and restaurant was about 1/3 full, staff were slow in attending to the ordering process, but once the food was served it was really good, very tasty and on a par with many other places. Hot, tasty and the breads were fresh and nice.

Why has it been so long since a visit to Taj Palace? We have always enjoyed lunching or dining there. We ordered and took home the Maharani Feast, a complete vegetarian meal. We enjoyed it so much!

I wanted so much to like TAJ PALACE. The owners are very nice, the environment is fine, and they know how to engage customers through the web and special offers. But after two dinner visits, I feel downtrodden, as the quest for decent Indian in this town is becoming folly. It was really bad, flavorless, badly prepared. Dinner details from last night: the two of us ordered one bread and three entrees: chicken curry, dahl makni, and chicken korma. Not only did all three totally lack flavor but they all suffered from an overload of the exact same unimpressive tomato base. Korma, with a heavy tomato base, really? Where were the proper ingredients... ground coriander, chili powder, heavy cream, plain yogurt, cashews, raisons? They were missing. The chicken in both dishes was dry. Management deserves credit for respecting our on-the-spot criticism, especially about the faux pas of tomato base in the korma. They took away two of the offending dishes so we then ordered chicken tikka (just tandoori, no sauce) and saag panneer. The chicken tikka was salty and dry, and the saag paneer thankfully did not have much tomato base but it was lacking of flavor, with the exception of a few fresh ginger strips on top. Odd thing is at the beginning of the ordering I asked for fresh chili peppers on the side. The waitress said they always bring them in a plate with sliced onions with the meal. That was encouraging, but they brought me thin slices of green pepper, not chilies. Must I say more? An Indian restaurant that thinks green pepper is green chili. Shocking. Maybe their buffet is a crowd pleaser, but i am moving on. Sorry, Taj. The Shah and his beloved Mumtaz would be disappointed, too.

Having visited both North and South India several times and enjoyed the cuisine of the country, I can state that Taj Palace is excellent in every manner. It is true to it's roots. I have tried every dish on the menu and the buffet at Taj Palace many times and found it to be the best Indian cuisine that I have enjoyed.

I had the vegetarian Buffet and it was very good and very fresh. If you are in the neighborhood it worth the trip.

Great Indian food at a decent price. Also, it's one of the very few Indian food dinner buffets I've ever seen. Their buffet has a great selection with several meats including great Tandoori chicken with a good kick of spice and a very flavorful butter chicken. The vegetable dishes are also very good. The best part though is their Naan bread which is cooked in the traditional style and is probably the best I've ever had.

The presentation was clean, customer serves was excellent. Servers and staff were very attentive, friendly and thoughtful. Food was delicious. My husband ordered lamb korma, extra spicy & he said the lamb tasted pretty fresh and great seasons. I ordered a vegetarian plate called Malai Kofta which was veg dumpling served with white rice with peas. I also ordered the pea soup and was delicious (ask for extra lemon if you try it). I normally don't write reviews on places but I was extremely happy and impress with the food and serves that I felt I owed this place some praising. Everything is awesome!!!

I can't wait until Taj reopens. It's been over a year and I'm having cravings for the delicious buffet choices. Please open again!!

OK, so part of this was my fault, maybe. I went here just shy of 2:00. I didn't see a sign indicating they closed at 2:00 or I would have opted to go somewhere else. The waiter didn't bother to tell me that it was about closing time either. He asked me what I wanted to drink and I said tea. The "tea" the brought was clear and tasted like "water". The buffet had some interesting things on it. None of it tasted bad, per se, but as i said before it was just shy of closing time, so there wasn't much, and I think they had already turned the warmers off. I had barely sat down when another guy FINALLY informed me they were closing and if I wanted more food, I'd better get it now. I felt extremely rushed when the whole incident could have been avoided if someone had bothered to tell me the situation beforehand.

We visit this restaurant at least once whenever we visit Austin. Made it for lunch this last visit and was again pleased by the tasty assortment of selections. We tried most of the items and found the flavors to be satisfying. The restaurant is located in a strip mall and the external appearance is deceiving. Inside it is very pleasant. The staff is attentive and professional. The decor is nice but the food is the main reason to visit. Definitely worth a visit if you enjoy good Indian food.

This restaurant has ecome a tradition on our way to Blue Genie Art Bazaar. Wouldn't be the same without a stop in here. Lamb is great, as are the sauces.

My friend and I had some wonderful naan, great lamb and chicken kabobs with onions and bell peppers.belbeppewatasty tomato sauce that was serpeppers.

The food was good once it hit the buffet, staff are friendly but not very talkative to guest. Clean place, hot food...

This place was fantastic! Quiet atmosphere, friendly staff, and really good food. The chicken korma was amazing, perfectly spiced, and has a unique sweet flavor. I loved it. The garlic naan and basmati rice were equally impressive. Will definitely be stopping here again!

We ate at this restaurant on 20th May 2008. The naan (Indian bread) served as part of the bread basket was a horrible experience. Bread basked comes with 3 naans. 2 of 3 naans were horribly cooked (burnt from the bottom) and raw from inside. This was brought to the attention of the waiters. They didn't speak English (could speak only Spanish) and couldn't understand. After showing the burnt naans to the two waiters who didn't understand a bit, I asked for someone who spoke English at the restaurant and showed him the burnt naans that were smelling of ash. He offered to re-make the naans. The initial dinner order took 25 minutes and came with burnt food. The remade naans they made had also a burnt naan in them. This restaurant used to be good but looks like they lost the chef to another Indian restaurant. It was 101 degrees outside in parking lot and 85 degrees inside the restaurant (they didn't even have the A/C working). Overall It was a terrible experience.

My wife and I head over to Taj Palace once or twice a month for dinner with friends. This is Indian street food, but I say that in a positive way. It's authentic and hits the spot when you have the craving. Don't mistake this for high end, fusion, a gourmet take on Indian fare. That said, the Korma dishes are my favorites, the butter chicken, and Masada a close 2nd. The naan is good but only order small amounts at a time. Criticism would be to skip the buffet unless you get there just as it opens. It's all vegetarian and isn't spiced well. Ordering from the menu is the better choice. Wait Staff are sufficient but there is some awkwardness to how its organized. If you go in expecting anything more than a mom and pop shop, you'll be disappointed. If not, you might find a keeper for low key dining nights.

Was in the area for a conference and we decided in Indian food. I had driven by this place for years but never visited. We went for lunch and there was a buffet which had a wide variety of Indian food. Everything seemed fresh, not dry like many buffets. The kitchen crew were refilling the trays as needed and management was regularly checking to make sure the food was moist and plentiful. Service was excellent with my water glass filled before it was empty each time (an empty water glass is a huge annoyance for me!). Service was excellent and the price was reasonable; lunch for 2 was $23 not including tip. Because the it was a two day conference we went back for lunch the next day so that should tell you all you need to know. The buffet line had different entrees this time and food was still great. Overall, a delicious meal with great service. I will be back and it is absolutely worth trying it you are in the mood for great Indian food.

I'm not normally a fan of Indian cuisine, but my colleagues all wanted to go. One of the women raved about the place, and she loves Indian food. You could order from the menu or eat from the buffet. There were several items - both meat and vegetarian to choose from. My colleague pointed out everything that wasn't spicy. Well - her version of spicy is different than mine! It was all quite good, but hotter than what I expected. I really liked the Tandoori chicken. I love all of the color in Indian food. We were served freshly made naan that was out of this world - SO GOOD. There were dipping sauces available for the naan and desserts as well.

I look for Indian lunch buffets as I travel and found this one recently in Austin. The one review suggesting food poisoning is probably wrong--there's no reason to believe from my one visit that there's a problem. I liked that they put all the vegetarian dishes in consecutive trays and the variety of vegetarian options, and I liked their chicken dishes and kheer. I also liked that some of the dishes were a bit spicy as they should be. And I liked the freshly prepared garlic naan brought to my table. I will be back next time in Austin.

Oh my goodness is the food here delicious and wonderful! The servers don't understand english very well but they really want to take care of you. The food is fresh and delicious! The ice cream was delicious as well. I will be back!

We found this a nice friendly restaurant with an extensive menu and a nice choice of beers. It was a pretty average price and seemed to do a brisk trade. Once inside, you could forget about the freeway running nearby!

We decided to eat here for our anniversary as I had received a birthday gift certificate. Went to the Tuesday lunch buffet -- vegetarian, mostly. I was surprised by the understated elegance. The staff was quietly attentive. Food was delicious with a wide array. Thoroughly enjoyed every dish -- had a little of all except lamb. The carrot pudding & the palak paneer (spinach & cheese) were so good I looked up recipes as soon as we got home! Will definitely go again!!

I thought this restaurant was slightly better than "average" for Indian food but I was impressed with the friendly and quick service. My dinner included the minced lamb with a garlic type Indian bread. There is a full bar. The most annoying thing was the rather loud music and they should really just turn that down a little.

The service is always incredible, everyone on the staff is very friendly and attentive. The restaurant is quiet and clean. I've ordered food to go before and they were fast, packaged everything well, and the order was perfect. The food tastes great. Everything I've tried there is delicious. This is my favorite Indian place in town.

Very tasty and pleasant. Was in neighborhood and popped in for lunch. Standard fare all up to snuff. Waiter attentive and welcoming.

No like the normal curry and roti from the Carbbiean.

We went by with not much time and just got an appetizer and some Indian bread. Both were so good that we wished that we had time for a full meal. Very authentic Indian food.

The restaurant space is cramped up & only couple of booths are there & only 2 people can sit in them. The restroom in this restaurant was more spacious compared to the restaurant space. Shame for the kind of food this restaurant prepares & calls it Indian food & worst customer service.... We ordered Vegetable Biriyani, Naan, Mattar Paneer, Malai Kofta,Onion Kulcha. Only 1 server/cashier, 1 greeter who cannot even speak English- so useless to be in such a position.Cannot answer anything when asked about menu. The one server was doing everything. I guess that's why he didn't even care when we said that we did not the Biriyani & he said that's how we make it here. What a kind of answer for developing business. Usually in any restaurant/Store here in US except this one when a customer says they are not satisfied with an item or product they do charge them & offer to provide a different product. Here they charged us & inspite of us telling that we do not want the Biriyani when they offered to remake it & order something. They brought it back with lots of oil & lots of chilli powder & charged us. The Biriyani rice did not look like it was made from Basmati rice(but apparently it was) as the rice was broken & looked like it was made from a Biriyani paste like the one we get in Indian groceries. Tasteless,Odorless which are not the qualities of a good Biriyani. They have decorations of Moghuls & Biriyani is from the Moghuls... Shame on you guys..... The raita was so sour. I think they must have made it in the morning & left it out for the buffet & brought the same thing back as they did not want to eat themselves & did not want to throw it away & wanted to make money on it. The naan was cold and not soft ,onion kulcha & mattar paneer were average & malai kofta was below average as kofta did not tast like kofta but like bonda, the gravy wasn't that tasteful.... BTW, the server brought a rice pudding saying that it was on them for the Biriyani issue which was also tasteless & odorless as it was old one too..

We came here as a group for lunch. The place is fairly plain and simple. The lunch buffet has a lot of offerings. Some things were good, some less so. Solid for a quick lunch. But don’t expect to be wowed.

My male colleague and I had the dinner buffet. The food was not warm in temperature, had NO spice, and there were fruit flies flying around the salad bar. I love Indian food and this was by far the worst Indian food I've ever had. They left whole cardamon seeds in the dish so that it nearly cracked my teeth when I bit into it. Additionally, the buffet was expensive considering what it offered. Aside from the food, the worst part was the sexist male waiter (an Indian approximately 50 years old) who REFUSED to look at me or address me. He only spoke to my male colleague and serviced his needs. My colleague and I were appalled about how blatant the sexism was. I had to directly stop him as he walked away from our table and ask for water to which he gave me less than half a glass. There was also a woman Indian waiter and she was very polite.

I cannot be 100% certain, but I do believe I got food poisoning here. Was sick within an hour of eating.

I went to the Taj Palace on Fiskville last night for a business meeting. The atmosphere is traditional, the staff is very professional, service is smooth. You are never without a beverage or bread. I had the buffet, since it was very busy and I figured that it would be a while before we got served if I ordered from the menu. The buffet is also more conducive to a meeting. The food was hot, it was excellent. The flavor was rich. What more can I say - the salad was fresh and the dressing was exquisite. True Indian dining experience. I have seen in other reviews that visitors claim the staff to be rude - but they are not rude at all! It is not Indian custom to swoon over guests, as it is in America. It is more important to provide excellent service. I loved it, and if I get a chance to go back to Austin and have time to return to the Taj Palace, I most certainly will!

Very nice Indian Buffet for both veg and non-veg. They have good variety and to Indian tastes. Staff is courteous, prompt and good service, Food I will say is 80 percent to Indian taste which is very big thing here. You will enjoy variety food.

Most Indian Restaurants have buffets--This one is fairly good--flash fried Kale with subtle Indian spices was the stand out! Tikka Marsala fairly good also, Saag Paneer need more cream less grease, stewed goat curry needed more goat less bones. Nice assortment of Condiments nice puddingd and almond pastries! Loved the atmosphere and clean venue! Service very friendly--This place is close to big Mall--

My expectation was so high due to the recommendations from my colleagues, but was disappointed when the featured meal was not available. The substitute was okay but not what I wanted. The curry was not piping hot as expected, though the service was good.

The lamb dishes were great, as were the samosas, masala chai, chicken curries and tandoori, and naan. I had forgotten how good their food was after a 20 year hiatus. I've got to go back to Austin often and enjoy the fare at Taj Palace. It's a little hard to find, but well worth the effort.

I've only gone here at lunch, when they have a buffet, and while I'm not especially a fan of Indian food, the Tandori Chicken and Fried Spinach are to die for! Decent pricing, too.

This restaurant is a hidden gem. Many business people avoid this part of town. It is not pretty, but if you crave fine Indian cuisine, go here. The sauces are precise and distinctive. The tandoori grilled food is flavorful, moist and not overdone. Mattar paneer was a standout. Service was professional. Ambiance conducive to a business discussion. This restaurant deserves a try.

We didn’t eat there ... had to-go ordered .. mostly starters . I must say .. food were awesome ... as complimentary they had some rice and dal added . Grills items were good .

Best Indian in Austin.

We recently returned to Taj Palace, and found that the lunch buffet was even better than we remembered. It is a great value, and the food is constantly refreshed (unlike some other buffets). Good service and lovely atmosphere.

Excellent Indian food restaurant. Wonderful weekday buffet and Maharaj Dinner for Two on the weekend.

We got the mataraja meal which is a 3 course meal and it was excellent. The appettizure was tender and full of flavor. The entrees were chicken, lamb, and spinach with cheese. The only one that was laking flavor was the spinach with cheese. The dessert was perfect not to sweet. The service was phenomenal great timing for the courses.

I had lunch here during my recent stay in Austin. I would definitely come back. This is located in a strip mall next to a thriving Bridge Center. The restaurant is clean and the lunch buffet was surprisingly good. Normally, I don't like buffets. But it was very well organized and the presentation of the buffet was clean and professional. There were two sections that were labeled "Vegetarian" - that was fantastic for me, as I was easily able to find the food I could eat. I had a spinach dish, lentils and aloo gobi. There was also some tasty Naan. Everything I ate was fresh and tasted quite good.

some of the best indian i've had in a while. a little greasy, but thats sort of what i liked about it. the naan was really good, and the tamarind sauce was the best i ever had!

The best lamb vindaloo I ever had, I had here. I'm not a fan of Buffets. Theirs is okay. I was disappointed that there was no gulab jamun on the buffet for dessert. The naan is good, and they serve you fresh naan if you go for buffet! I liked the pakora and saag paneer. The service is always fast and friendly. We'll be back.

What a great Xmas night out! We decided to break with the "tradition" of Home for the Holiday(s) and, go out for a culinary adventure. In Austin TX, of course, this could be a problem. But, Taj Palace came through for us! We had Chicken Vindaloo (not too adventurous but, good food!), a curry spinach dish and several appetizers. Plus, Garlic Nan. Great service, considering the place was slammed for the holiday, very well prepared food and a nice atmosphere. The wait time for our food was very reasonable... The prices were well in line for the quality and the portions. Compared to my west coast Indian favorites, Taj Palace is very competitive. Give it a try!

Myself and one of my offfice mate were looking for a lunch spot and this place was close to our hotel. We went for lunch and decided to go with the buffet. The selection was wide and tasty. We had so many options for vegetarian dishes, which I liked, and three to four dishes that are made with meat. All of them are excellent. The highlight, which most people don't experience, are the simplistic dessert dishes that they offer, at the end of the buffet. I particularly liked the"chicken vindaloo". Desserts like a simple rice pudding or carrot based pudding also tasted so good. I was also surprised and pleased to find a cabbage and mayonnaise salad as well. Overall the lunch buffet was fantastic and the owner obviously walks around and asks you if everything is okay.

We enjoyed the North Indian style lunch buffet at Taj Palace on our visit to the Austin area. Abundant food choices for both meat eaters and vegetarians that were fresh and distinctive in flavor, with mild to moderate heat. Fresh fruit was offered at the salad bar and three different deserts were available. The dining room was full (good sign!) and crowded during our visit, but the staff was efficient at keeping the buffet stocked, water glasses filled, and tables cleared for the next customers. Reasonable price for lunch too. Recommended.

Enjoyed my dinner here, the Samosa appetizers were perfectly done, the Lamb Saag was plentiful for almost 2 people, I was full! The Jasmine rice was perfect and could not have expected better for the decent price. I had to get some Naan to go with my leftovers.

I has been awhile since we were at Taj Palace. The lunch buffet has a nice selection of food, small salad area and a couple desserts. The food was OK and do not take that as being bad just nothing that was really outstanding. I would definitely return if in the area but would not make this a go to place for Indian food. There are a couple other places in north/mid-Austin area that are much better. However if you are hungry you will get a good meal at Taj Palace. We had a selection of curry goat (good but boney), chicken tiki masla (kind of good), another chicken dish with curry and onions (my favorite of the day), tandoori chicken (OK but dry). two kinds of rice and five or six veggie dishes (all of which were OK to good). I liked the tomato soup but my wife preferred the lintel soup. The beet dessert was really different and OK but the rice pudding was rather good. The naan was fresh and good.

The food was great, the service was ok. The buiding is pretty small but there is a great menu and the staff is happy to help. Not bad

I had the dinner buffet. And everything was excellent! They even brought out free Naan with the buffet. My favorite was the Panak Paneer. It was reasonably priced, nice on the inside. I would go back!

See review under current name, “Bombay to Kathmandu.” The food and service are terrific. We’re glad we found this and will be back.

I'm no expert on Indian food but everything I tried here, I enjoyed. Good service. It will be walking distance from the new Tesla SuperChager.

Lots of offerings, and tablecloths and cloth napkins, a nice change for a buffet place, seemed a little classier than most, and very good crowd

The restaurant at this location is now called 'Bombay to Kathmandu' although the lettering on the curb still says Taj Palace. Never been to Taj Palace but Bombay to Kathmandu is excellent. The waiters and hosts were all very friendly. The decor was pleasant. Loved the Indian music sound track. The food was delicious and served in an aesthetically pleasing arrangement. Probably one of the few places also serving Nepalese food.

After a long drive and finding ourselves in a not so great hotel, we decided to get some dinner... Taj Palace was right down the road from where we were staying. Indian food has always been comfort food for us, so we thought "Why not? Can't get any worse?" Luckily, it didn't. In fact our meal at Taj Palace was one of the high points of our trip. The staff was attentive and the entrees were perfect. I ordered Paneer Curry, though I generally prefer Chana Masala or Korma. (Which are also on the menu and likely just as good.) My husband is the whitest white guy with a stomach to match, and he of course ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala. Both dishes were seasoned well. The rice was cooked just right. The naan came out fresh and smelled so delicious. I dream of naan pillows now. Thank you Taj Palace for turning around a bad day. You will be our go to place in Austin on our next visit.

I suggested my team lunch at Taj Palace but was little nervous if all will like this place. Everyone loved the food and variety of dishes. After that we went there quite often and found the food quality is consistently top class. Along with quality food is fresh and not too creamy or oily for health conscious people like me.
Awesome lunch
Visited Austin and after being there a few days wanted something other than tacos and Tex-Mex. Great decision. Excellent buffet. Moist, seasoned just right, fresh nan brought to the table. They have been in business 26 years. Now I understand why.
