Very nice restaurant with a spectacular view of downtown Los Angeles. The food is very good and the prices are appropriate. The attention is very good. Price quality ratio is good

I am super excited to find bartenders that can make me a drink that I love. All I have to do is say Rum-fruity and sweet. You have to sit at the bar or at least order from the bar for this luxury by the way. Drink in hand the food is great, best lamb chops I've ever had. Don't forget to check out the view. If you don't sit outside so a lap to see the 20 stories up view of downtown Los Angeles. It gets very busy and sometimes crowded so your waitress may take. While getting to you. If you are female there will be a line for the restroom once Elevate opens. It is the club on the same floor and they share the restroom.

First and foremost, this is a place to come with friends or a date. Not the best sushi in LA, but definitely not bad. The tuna and salmon was fresh, but the octopus somewhat "rubbery" and not recommended. Will come back again.

yes, the food is good and certainly cheap, so the relation price-quality is more than ok.... and yes, it is a great location as you really feel Manhattan atmosphere sitting half outside on the terrace side at the 21st floot with all the illuminated buildings around you... gives a real cosmpolitan feeling.. but the clients mostly being youngsters because of the well functioning club on the same level, makes the things go a bit like all things happening in a zapping atmosphere... So, the advice is not to order starter and main course together or they will serve you everything together as they are fast... or they bring you someone else's order... they are friendly and smiling by the way... try to do it properly... but here, the calculation is made on the masses... so, having dinner in a quiet ambiance is quite impossible... it's loud, it's hip, it's everything but cosy... you just should know this... if you can deal with it, enjoy your meal... which is good and, as I said, not expensive at all.......

This place is really a fine line between poor and average. If it wasn't for the view, I would definitely rate it poor. I am not sure what the fuss is all about. This is not how maki is supposed to TASTE LIKE people. Very bad, my stomach cringed all night. The service I must say, made up a little for the bad food experience. Even though our food didn't come in the preferred order it did come quite fast despite how crowded it was. If I were to be forced to go again, highly unlikely, I would order something other than the sushi/maki.

Wow! What an experience. This is a must go to and SEE the city from a rooftop. The food was fantastic too! The only reason I am giving it four stars is because the service could have been a little better, but I will try it again to give it another chance!

This was a unique way to eat sushi. As a tourist, we loved the amazing views and outdoor feel. The sushi was fresh and well prepared. I’d definitely go back. It was worth the money.

Went to this sushi located in downtown LA. The best thing about it, is not just the quality of the food itself, but the spectacular view of downtown. I recommend that you go on night since it will be more spectacular, and they have a great variety of drinks and cocktails to enjoy in good company. Better to ask for a table next to the window. The ambience is good for staying a while.

was great to have a drink and a bite (some sushi - very fresh!) during happy hour

First time for us sampling sushi in LA, so not sure where to start. This yelp recommended spot seemed like a good choice so we took the elevator up to this restaurant on the top floor. Great view from the patio, not surprisingly. The decor is warm but hip, lots of dark wood. We were waiting to be impressed. It began with our waitress, who was very knowledgeable about sushi and their extensive menu. She was full of recommendations. We started with the eggplant tempura and salmon and sea bass robota. Delicious! The red dragon roll was the best I've ever had! Was this place expensive? Absolutely, but you're paying for the whole experience. I know you can get sushi as good for a lot less, just not with this view and atmosphere. I note some reviewers were disappointed, and I can understand why. We were not.

Everything was excellent . Fresh & very tasty . We had : the stuffed shishito peppers the Japanese tacos the Takami roll the senseless rolls the seared tuna the seabass w miso sauce . A must to try the senseless rolls and the seabass , out of this world . Our server Nick was amazing , one of the best we ever had . Very professional, friendly & very knowledgeable about the menu . We also watched him interact with the other customers around us & we were impressed . It seems that he really cares & likes his job . I hope his excellent performance is acknowledged & rewarded . Overall it was a very pleasant evening & the view was a bonus .

This place is expensive but the food overall is great. They have robata which is unique and of course very fresh sashimi and tasty rolls. The sashimi is very fresh but portions are not that large; therefore, you will need to order some rolls and appetizers. Views are awesome and setting is trendy. They offer valet parking or perhaps you can find a nearby garage.

We had 9 people meeting at this 21st floor semi-open restaurant and bar. The bar and services was excellent. The sushi and O dors were ok.

Kinda fun but strange-ish place in LA's finacial district. You enter through what feels like an office block and land on the upper floors where you feel sandwiched between a bar, restaurant and nightclub!?! The musics kinda banging but thankfully filters out in the restaurant. The menus good and everything I had was ok. All tasted good but I wouldn't say great. Enjoyed the plum ginger martini. Soft shell crab was good but a touch greasy as was the vegatable tempura. I thought the Japanese Tacos were quite good but heavy on the mayo sauce. We shared numerous other dishes which were good too, but again nothing to scream about. The toilets have an attendant who was kinda pushy to get tips for using his plethora of grim common fragrances amongst other things. Didn't expect that here. I liked the open area where you can smoke and drink, possibly the best aspect to the place as, by night, you can soak up the vibey atmosphere and appreciate a city, bathed in neon and star lights. A tad pricey but worth a drink or two.

Stunning view of the city from the restaurant. Our server was very friendly and patient with us. Really good food and was not over priced.

Have been there with friends and colleagues after a long congress day. Ambiente is modern but cosy. Food is delicious with lots of variaties in japanese dishes. Not only typical sushi place. Price level is not cheap but worth it.

I purchased a voucher for this restaurant which is the only reason I would have cosidered coming here. I had a wonderful experience. The only thing I don't like about the restaurant is that it is located downtown and you always have to pay for parking. Once we got upstairs, I immediately noticed that the restaurant had a nice ambiance to it. It also felt very open due to the seating area that is slightly outside, but covered. The view is gorgeous if you walk over by the wall. However, I couldn't enjoy it from where I was sitting because I am short. Our server was very friendly and helpful. Our food was delicious, but I probably would not come back here unless I got another deal because it is very expensive and you can get great sushi for far less.

Went there with my wife for dinner on recent trip to LA. We had a hotel downtown, so the restaurant was walking distance. It was a bit chilly, so we sat inside, but still had a nice view from their 21st floor. The sushi was good and cheaper than some other (more known) sushi places in LA. We had a good evening and would come back again in future.

We really enjoyed our dining experience at Takami on the 21st floor of 811 Wilshire in the heart of downtown LA. The decor is very cool and modern with a hint of Shag-style. The main dining room is partitioned with a glass wall because the exterior windows on the 21st floor and only half panels with the top half open to the elements. This brings the sounds of the city in and gives a unique quasi outdoor dining experience in a skyscraper. The inside of the partition dining tables do not lose any of the view and are naturally a little quieter or less exposed - I think a toss up as to which is better. There is a small bar area in the restaurant too. The food is served from three kitchen areas - a japanese hot kitchen, a sushi bar, and a robata (think grill/kebob) kitchen. We tried food from all three and especially liked the following: Appetizers: Takami Sirloin ($15) & Tuna on crispy rice ($15) Rolls: Penthouse Roll ($16) Sashimi: Halibut Carpaccio ($18) Robata: Lamb ($16) In addition, the drinks menu was creative and enjoyable. The blackberry sidecar ($12) and the Plum Martini ($12) were highlights. A small dessert menu is available too. Overall we were surprised at how affordable this restaurant was - dinner for 4 including drinks and dessert was $240. Most people dressed up which was nice - a couple of people were in t-shirts and I think the restaurant should consider publishing a dress code as this has a great cool / hip feel too it. Highly recommeded.

I should’ve took pics smh 🤦🏾♂️ but our server was great and made some great recommendations. Great sushi for the price. Hight recommended.

I've been to Takami several times, not only for the ambience and amazing views, but also for the tasty drinks and food! I usually order sushi there, but everything I've tried has been delicious. Two visits ago, the service was not as good as I was accustomed to at Takami, and I left a review saying that I was a little disappointed with it, though the food was still incredible. The manager, David, immediately contacted me and offered to set up my next reservation. We went with a group of 4, and had Scott as a server. Scott was attentive, timely, knowledgeable, and friendly. In addition to the service being above and beyond what I expected, David honored a living social voucher I'd had on the previous visit, and we were given some complimentary desserts. I was blown away by the customer service we received, and will definitely be back, as well as recommend it to anyone who wants an upscale LA vibe and great food and service! Thank you Scott and David!

It is difficult to fight LA from the west side, but as we attended the auto show we rolled in a night out. You’d be hard pressed to find another Japanese restaurant in LA with a better view, but we selected it because we believed it to be high end. In that respect it is not comparable to any of the spectacular alternatives in LA. To start, we sat down to plates which had not been properly washed. They were quickly changed. We ordered a nice bottle of wine but it came with those clunky dollar store wine glasses that take away from the experience. I guess I should have known better. Sake is a better option. Our waiter Scott was professional and friendly. You just have to watch the upsell. Takami is proud of their robata, which is very good and you should not avoid it, but we were offered a sample and what we got was a very large multiple order. The same was true for the sashimi. I asked for a piece of octopus (as I don’t eat the stuff) and a piece of toro, what we got was eight of each, and I know it was not cheap. Before these came, and not knowing they would be huge, we ordered rolls. The result was that we not only had more food than we could eat but the bill was inflated. At street level, the corner of the building has a small white and red sign containing the name of the restaurant. Valet parking is in the back alley. If you snag an outside table, try to get one which is not directly opposite of the door through which all the staff enters and exits. The food will not leave a bad taste but the upsell might.

An unexpected find in DTLA: 21st-floor bar/restaurant in an otherwise unassuming business-district office building. We sat on the open-air patio and enjoyed a great view (note: it's probably less stellar before dark!) and delicious food and drink. Everything was beautifully presented, and the staff was friendly and the waitstaff extremely knowledgeable and helpful with menu recommendations--ask if you're undecided; they won't steer you wrong! Great for "family style" sharing so you can sample everything. Think of it as Japanese tapas. Delicious!

The Toro was out of this world! The Kanpachi was fantastic and everyone MUST try the 21st roll. There are so many good things on their menu it is worth going back several times to experience new cuisine. The Saki menu is one of the largest I have seen and we also had a great experience with the Saki selection. If you are near downtown LA, this is a MUST Try location.

Stopped for dinner with my girlfriend. They do have a great view but the food and the service are terrible. There is so much bette downtown LA.

The Sushi here stacks up against just about anyone’s in Los Angeles. I have been here many many times and still love going back. My ONLY issue is the pricing is in line with you would expect from a restaurant on the 21st floor in LA, sky high. TIP: sometimes the line outside the door is for the club “Elevate” on the same floor, and if you are heading up for dinner you can bypass the line.

I consider myself to be a bit of a foodie and often my travel revolves around dining and taking in the local dish. I also feel I am pretty particular with a fairly discerning palate that recognizes good food. I see there are some reviews that note this restaurant as average, but its pretty hard to grasp how they came to this conclusion unless it happened to maybe be something I have yet to try. We started of with the White Tea Rose martinis served with a rose petal floating on top - beautiful and not watered down. A slight sweetness but not sickeningly so. I generally favor scotch, but found this to be really quite good. We had the spicy tun on crispy rice, Montana ranch steak, Japanese tacos, Takami tartare, Takami roll, lobster roll and Amaebi, followed by dessert which was molten chocolate cake with orange zest and the plate was drizzled with lemon and raspberry. One item I wanted to make a special note of is the baby lamb chops. I am not generally a fan of lamb. AT. ALL. But their baby lamb chops were utterly amazing with the black truffled sauce. The ambiance is wonderful and as with any restaurant you never know what kind of service you'll end up with. I would report that both times that I have gone service has been excellent. I would agree with the other comments about the hostess podium. It is apparent that they do not realize they are mere restaurant hostesses, not celebrities and are there to actually greet and seat people, not snub them. I particularly like dining here when the weather is nice and all of the windows are retracted, even for being downtown Los Angeles the view is wonderful and being so high above the city in the modernly decorated restaurant it just works.

I took a big (and not young) group--12. I was originally hoping to do happy hour there--and that is NOT expensive given the high quality of the food--but because of various people's need to sit down at a "proper table" and be away from the music, we ended up ordering in the part of the restaurant reserved for dinner, not happy hour. Everyone is our group was delighted with the food. We shared dishes so people tasted things they'd never order themselves. It's Japanese with a touch of fusion, plus off the menu are mashed potatoes and steamed veggies. Robata, for those not acquainted with the style, means skewers of cooked meat, fish, veg (not mixed on one skewer, but separate, so order several kinds to mix for yourself). It's very big so you can probably get reservations at the last minute or show up for happy hour without worrying about the crowds.

Great sushi with roof top view. Awesome crowd with a strong DTLA vibe. A 'must stop' for happy hour.

With all the great music available to play in your very nice restaurant, why choose annoying electronica fast beat crap music to play loudly overhead? The food was delicious but having to endure the noise ruined the experience. The hostess was very sweet and our server a delight.

I used find me a sushi restaurant near me and this came up. Sat in here at the sushi bar now, writing as I eat. Very busy cool atmosphere. Some of the best sushi I’ve had in a long time. Nice service. Good for solo, romantic, party or business dining. Highly recommended.

This restaurant has a romantic yet trendy vibe with a great atmosphere as a rooftop restaurant and bar. The staff is knowledgeable and the food is great!

I visit Takami a few times a month for appetizers and drinks. Their bartenders are the best I have ever encountered. The edamame and skewers are amazing. I prefer weekdays as it is less crowded, but the service is always great regardless of the number of people.

I have been to this restaurant three times. I have laws felt the food is way overpriced. It is no different in quality, presentation or portion size to that of any other everyday sushi restaurant. The views are great. It is on the 18th floor of a tower in downtown but I don't think the view leaves you satisfied. I would never choose it for "Japanese dinner". I'll go when I have to. The hostesses, although pretty, could be a bit nicer and friendlier. The bar is good

We are a family of 5 and are big sushi enthusiast. We came in without reservation and were told that there was only a few minutes wait to deck up our table. We waited however for more than 15 minutes in the lounge area, within that timeframe no one came towards us for given us a menu card or even offering us drinks. Finally we were shown to our table, which had a good seat with a beautiful view. We did some research online and saw that they had a 10 year anniversary menu offer which was within our price range, however those prices were very misleading and the sushi rolls on that offer were only 5 bites per roll. We had no other choice than to opt for the sushi on the menu, where quality does not match the price at all! The soy and garlic portions were finished after our starter, we asked our waiters for some more and then again to another waiter, after waiting for quite some time, we finally got more at the end of our meal. A glass of water got spilled on the table and 3 waiters walked passed us without providing a hand or asking if we needed more napkins to clean it up. All in all we got a very bad experience with this poor service and overpriced sushi.

Came here with a large group for a birthday celebration. From what I could tell, everyone in our group thought the food was excellent. The view of the city was also pretty darn good. Our server and wait staff were very patient with us while we barked out our orders and other requests. We were there on a busy night and it was a bit noisy in the room - sound seems to bounce off the walls easily. I thought the atmosphere was somewhat bland. Also, I think the lighting could've been brought down a notch to better enjoy the downtown view. I may come back again if I ever visit downtown LA.

We enjoyed our dinner at Takami. It's on the 21st floor Downtown LA so you get a great view of the city. The service was very good. The food arrived very quickly at our table. The food was excellent. You could see and taste all the natural ingredients in their rolls. The Scotch and Vine drink is delicious.

Had a business function so we had an area outside to ourselves. The food was very nicely presented and all tasted good - however nothing that I could call outstanding. Our waitress did a pretty good job of keeping our drinks flowing. I would definitely go back if I was staying in the area even if only for the view and being outside.

The crown jewel of my visit to this restaurant was the service. The food was good, very small portions. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with great city views and several seating areas. There is an area for watching sports, sushi bar, casual seating for drinks, a regular bar and dining areas inside and also an enclosed outside area. The Chilean Sea Bass was perfectly cooked and the side of roasted vegetables were very good. The sushi looked good but didn't try it on this trip. Food is a little pricey but they offer many options.(Sushi, Robata, Seafood and Meat dishes) The service was excellent on all levels. Everyone was helpful, attentive and welcoming.

The food was very good. Although we like Sushi, we went with the Robata and it was very tasty. We would try it again, particularly the scallops. However, the service needs to be improved. It took a while to get our orders going, but even worse, we were rushed to leave the table after we finished our main course by a waiter who needs to be re-trained.

We visited for happy hour. The drinks were well priced and good service. All of our guests enjoyed themselves and the ambience was good. I would consider adding another white wine to the happy hour menu as not everyone like Chardonnay. Other than that I will be back.

We rarely go downtown in Los Angeles for dinner, nor, that I can remember, ever in a high rise office building here so it was with some anticipation that we visited Takami Sushi and Robata last night. On the plus side, service, apart from the rather off-hand hostesses, was fine with our waiter being really excellent. He was enthusiastic, informative, knowledgeable about the food and genuinely charming. The dishes - we had their 5 course dinner were all beautifully presented and the dining room is sparely elegant in a slightly anonymous way. The food itself is just OK. Everything was fresh enough, important everywhere but even more so in a Japanese restaurant and some of the textures were lovely, particularly the sea bass, while other offerings which are structured as little tastes or "Japanese tapas" were not quite right with ingredients that didn't work for me. Curry in the otherwise perfectly fine calamari for example. The little skewers of grilled beef and chicken were neither flavorful or well textured and the sushi was not the freshest or the worst I've ever had either. Desserts were mixed, an ordinary tiny chocolate lava cake came with little drizzles of intense raspberry and mango sauce and I'm not quite sure what the other dessert was except light, creamy and sweet. Rather a lot to eat over two hours or so, spent sitting on chairs that are more stylish than comfortable. Curiously everyone around us spent more time on their smartphones that talking to each other which was just weird, or perhaps I'm getting old! This dinner was well over $300 for two with drinks and service and didn't strike either of us as worth it. I'm pleased we tried Takami but don't feel feel inspired to come here again. Both J. and I look for more atmosphere in our restaurants and at this price level exceptional food too.

Last night was my 2nd trip to Takami. Took my cousins who are honeymooning from the Philippines to celebrate their new union w/ my husband and cousins. It was a great time... I'd like to say that Takami has yes, awesome views of DTLA, awesome food, awesome ambiance, awesome location but what topped it all was our waitress Anna. Long story short, we had to be moved due to a reservation for a huge party on a Saturday night...she, along with Seth (I believe is the manager), made sure we transitioned smoothly even with our party size (10)..her service was AWESOME, as was how she treated us personally..not as customers, but as if we've known each other. My first time was a year ago on my birthday and loved it then...this time around just sealed the deal for me. It was also my brothers first time who LOVED the food. (FYI he's a gourmet chef) so this was surprising to me since he's picky. You will not disappoint. In the middle of the beautiful LA skyline..best view, best food, best service.

Can't beat the view! Or the happy hour prices, which is the best time to go! Sushi is good and so is the service! Easy to access from the subway!

Rather high priced, mostly rolls, also robata if you like grilled meats. mostly a place to be seen or people watch, with great views of the city

My wife and I recently traveled to California and I decided to take her out to 2 Anniversary Dinners. We had decided on the Yamashiro Sushi place but unfortunately it closed so I went scrambling to find another sushi restaurant and was recommended this one. It did not disappoint. The views from the 21st floor were amazing and the food did not disappoint.

I went there with my fiancé !!! For dinner and we defenetely love this restaurant and stunning view of Downtown LA!!!! We were so enjoy the food drink !!! Ask for rose martini , you will love it :)

We waited almost 10 minutes after we were seated until our server or assistant approached. We told two other employees that we had not yet been served...and still waited 3 or 4 more minutes...Once our server approached us we had a great time with spectacular food. We were seated with a pretty view, but the tables were too close. If you have a chance to go here ask for a table on the outer edge of the building... not in a row. We had ikura, rainbow roll, 2-3 other rolls that were delicious...also had great unfiltered sake. Server was very attentive after the long wait at the beginning...

Modern and spacious restaurant with beautiful sitting outside overlooking downtown. Inside is modern and sleek. Great menu with a lot of choices for grilled items and ceviche. Friendly service. Robata grill is delicious. Happy hours very popular with big choices of appetizers and drinks. Nice place to hang out with friends and big companies.

Me and my girlfriend visits L.A from belgium, we wend to the Takami restaurant and our conclusion is. It's the best sushi we've ever eaten. And we eat a lot of sushi in Belgium. :-) The restaurant has a beautiful view, but is a bit pricey. But definitely worth it!

I chose this restaurant for its proximity to my hotel (Standard Downtown) and its promise of great views and hopefully equally great Japanese food. The ambiance and views are indeed spectacular, as was the service but the food was unfortunately not at the same level . The biggest disappointment was the O-toro sushi did not have the expected fresh, oily surface I expected and the taste confirmed my suspicions of a less than fresh fish. The dishes from the robata grill were good but not great and the special with Halibut sashimi with Yuzu sauce also left something to be wanted. I would like to give this place a second chance but for now I am looking at other sushi places for my next downtown LA visit.

This was our second trip to Takami, the first one we had a Travelzoo voucher. The service was great both times. Food was outstanding and their signature cocktails are the best I've had anywhere. It's a little pricey, but for the location and view, it's pretty average. High points regarding service: I spilled my drink and they brought me another free of charge. I requested a table by the window for a birthday dinner and got that plus a beautiful and tasty piece of Japanese Tiramisu, candle and all. High points regarding food: I do not eat sushi and am just beginning to eat seafood. Even so, with the voucher, we were given appetizers that were almost all seafood. I made a point to try each and they were all astounding. Nothing tasted fishy or had funny textures at all, not even the spicy tuna on crispy rice, which is pretty darn close to eating sushi. High points regarding drinks: We've tried nearly every signature cocktail on the menu now. Every single one we've had so far was tasty in it's own right. Most of the time with drinks such as mojitos, there is the heavy alcohol aftertaste or bitterness that is expected but kind of detracts from the overall experience. These drinks did not have that at all. They use high end liquor in every signature cocktail and the flavors are smooth and the non-alcoholic ingredients are fresh. The serrano kiss (if you like spicy) is probably my top pick, though I don't think you can go wrong with any of them! My serrano kiss this last time came with a fresh orchid floating in it, too. Gotta love those special touches. This is now my favorite special occasion restaurant, despite the fact that I don't even like sushi!

The big eh.. below standard service. Drinks served separate. Food server could not separate fish for allergic. Trendo. Yes!

The sushi is spectacular. So fresh, good and creative. The restaurant when you walk in - in the bar area - doesn't smell good though. We had a drink during happy hour before dinner (a *great* happy hour!) - and the bartender great. But it did smell bad. Views from tables/when we were seated for our reservation were lovely, though the better side of restaurant with nice sunset they weren't seating anyway. Our waitress was horrible. As she's asking us what we want - she doesn't look at us AT ALL - she looks sideways. We ordered a bottle of Sancerre and 15mins later she informed us they didn't have it. Didn't come up with a suitable alternative or say but we can give you this bottle for same price or whatever. Her suggestion was ridiculous. She did not come often to the table to check in. And really - her service was awful. But we ate like kings and queens - the sushi rolls (specifically the takami roll), the miso bass and miso soup were GREAT! The edamame was NOT good - measly beans - but not horrible; just a touch disappointing but the rest of the food was top notch!

been here a few times with the sunday to thursday groupon deal, it is a good deal. View is great but not as busy as it used to be

I had dinner with a friend - the location is great with good views across the city. The hostess was very flexible in allow us to choose which table we wanted and we selected an outside table - they also have heaters so even as the evening got chilly we weren't cold. The food is good very fresh and tasty and we had 3 appetizers and 3 rolls and that was more than enough - in fact I was quite full. The place got pretty full so had a good buzz but not so loud you couldn't talk comfortably. I would definately go back.

Tried to go to Takami for lunch 2:pm on July 30, the rude guard. Did not give me access, he just waved no, no what??? The ads say they are opened for lunch. Went thru the rest entrance, thru an ally. Asked the guard if the rest was closed. He treated us like the worst saying that we were not welcomed in the building. That the building was private property. I tried to get answers if the rest was closed, and he just rolled his eyes, have never felt so humiliated in my life. 811 Wilshire is an unforgettable address, will never visit again in my lifetime.

Visiting LA for a birthday weekend and had the Omni Hotel concierge make a reservation at Takami about 12 hrs ahead of arrival. Got a window seat on a wonderful 'top of the world' view plus great food. The waiter had opinions and expertise and wasn't shy about offering either and wasn't offended if you selected otherwise. Two stars of the evening: the halibut carpaccio practically floated off the plate and the sashimi salad. The wines were an assertive pour.

It was my firts time in this place Its a wonderful restaurant and great service Kristina who is the menager was very nice and helpful and Ryan great guy) I will advise everyone this wonderful place with wonderful view...... Thx guys ;-) 06.03.13 R...

After 4 months in Europe , we were sooo overdue for good sushi . So , here we are all the way from Westwood to Takami for the wonderful dishes we knew they had . The Sensational rolls ,the Gyoza , the Tempura were v v good , as expected . The Crispy Tuna Rice had the rice WAY over cooked , chewy and hard to bite it . The tuna on top tasteless and almost non existent . Such a butchered order . The Spicy Tuna Rolls were worse than in a grocery store. The tuna was a TASTELESS paste ! I do not think I ever had it as bad ever . The Japanese Taco , my favorite , had a strong VERY FISHY SMELLING , disgustingply mushy / very pasty consistency and a bitter / bad taste to it . I took 2 bites& I just felt something was really wrong , not safe to eat . I informed the server & gave them back . I had this tacos for years & I knew the texture and how they usually taste , no doubt they were bad . Something was really wrong , probably a left over from the day before at the bottom of a bowl they wanted to use it . You could not taste the tuna , crab or shrimp . I am really happy I did not have more of them because the little I had I could feel my stomach was not happy about later on . The Yellow Tail and Albacore Sushi had hardly any fish on , the rice took over the fish taste .! The prices went way up there , the fish went all the way up low ! All in all , the experience was not what we were looking for . very disappointing. How low on quality do they think they can go before losing customers ? Or somebody getting sick ? I do not know ,do they have a new chef ? Is this the problem ?. For so many years everything was just consistently very good . never disappointed. If so , definitely it is not a good one . Time to look for somebody else . The only highlight part was our server Cordoba who tried to make our evening bearable . We had him 3 times before & really, really liked him . Nice , friendly, polite and very personable . We will try this place again , hoping everything it will be up to par . If not , time to move on .

The food is delicious, yet I think overpriced. As others mentioned, you are paying for the view which is fantastic. The best and unexpected surprise was the open air atmosphere -- they have tall windows that go up about 8' and then it's open air! Perfect last night as it was an 84 degree day in LA and so the night weather was perfect. Bartender is great -- personable and takes pride in his craft. The halibut carpaccio was really good as well as their spyder roll. The shishito peppers were a bit tired looking and preparation of those could've been better, but how wrong can you go cooking a pepper? The miso seabass was delicious, but surprisingly the rice wasn't fresh. You expect really good rice at a Japanese restaurant -- even the little Tokyo hole-in-the-walls have super fresh rice. One of our party ordered the sashimi and sent it back as it wasn't fresh. So overall fun, but could've been better thus the four dots.

Diner here with a co-worker while in town for a business meeting. The sushi was well prepared and flavorful, the service was very prompt and courteous, and the view from the 21st floor with the open air view was a nice addition. Their twist on edamame was very nice as well, they toss the edemame in a mixture of butter, garlic, soy, and salt. The price was not as high as we were expecting considering the location and quality.

The title says it all. This is one of our all time favorite Japanese restaurants in Los Angeles. We really need to go back cause it's been awhile. But every time we've gone the staff has been super nice and efficient, the food is fresh and prepared wonderfully and the views you cannot beat. You have to try the Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice, Seared Tuna, any of the Robata, the Takami Tartare is amazing and of course any of their sashimi or ngiri. Prices are moderate to high but worth it.

Looking for a great Sushi restaurant in the heart of downtown? This is an elegant, delicious hidden gem. Except it's not that hidden, insiders are already in the know. Tip:1. You need reservations and be on time to avoid painfully long waits. Hostesses are not accommodating due to stacked appointments. 2. Go for a late dinner to enjoy city lights and on warm nights deck seating and wide open spaces without wondows will make you feel your floating over the city.

This downtown LA restaurant is just gorgeous. It is on top of an office building with really cool views and the food was amazing, as well as the service by our server Ryan who guided us through the complicated menu. I am still dreaming of the calamari and Cucumber Gimlet!

Takami is an amazing sushi restaurant. Not only is their fish fresh every time, but they have the most amazing robata too! You must try their truffle sauce for dipping, it is so damn good. Their sashimi is truly where it's at, you can't go wrong with the halibut sashimi or the yellowtail, and their spicy tuna on crispy rice is some of the best I've had in LA! Did I mention the restaurant has a gorgeous view of the city? It's at the top of a Downtown Los Angeles building, so you can sit inside or outside and take in the lovely view. Lastly, their drinks are sooooo yummy, I wish I could try them all! All in all, if you want a great date spot, or a great place for a group venture, Takami is it!

Excellent happy hour and incredible views. This place is well worth a visit. The sushi we had was wonderful, plus they have a great drink list. You must stop by when you are in the area.

Takami is an elegant space in a downtown high-rise. The service is attentive and the menu is appealing. However, on my last few visits, the food just hasn't been as good as it had been in the past. The appetizers, particularly the spicy tuna on crispy rice and the sushito peppers are still quite good. However, the rolls seems to have lost a bit of their former perfection and now just seem average.

Rooftop restaurant and bar in downtown LA. Good place to stop for a drink after 4 pm during their happy hour. We went back again the next night for dinner with friends. Excellent food and active vibe. Fun place.

This place has a very unique setting in an office building up high but with an indoor/outdoor angle. The sushi is inventive and tastes fresh. The service seems hurried, almost like they are trying too hard to turn the tables. The music is a little loud for a dinner conversation. The setting and the sushi are worth the 4 stars.

I enjoyed some excellent sushi here. What ruined the experience was that they cannot seem to decide if they want to be a restaurant or a discotheque. The excessively LOUD, bad music really takes away from the pleasure of their quite good food. I think more people go there for the view, but it's just the boring LA skyline you're seeing, nothing special to look at.

This place is amazing. It is on the 21st floor of a building in downtown Los Angeles. Ask to be seated outside. While it is covered and heaters are above you, the air is wonderful. The view is stunning. Downtown LA is below and all around you as you dine. We had the Banzai Margarita, Lychee Mojito, Scotch and Vine, and a glass of Reisling. All of the drinks were delicious and well poured. They were perfectly mixed and a delight to sip. Then the food. Our table had the mixed green salad, miso soup, garden roll, Kyushu Kanpachi, Robata Filet, Robata Asparagus, Robata Onions, Robata Zucchini, Robata Scallops, Salmon Sushi, Shrimp Tempura Roll, and Robata Corn. For those not in the know, like I was before dinner, Robata is a grilling technique. All of the items were prepared or cooked perfectly. The miso is served in small bowls perfect for sipping the soup. The Robata Filet was perfectly seasoned and served rare. The vegetables were cooked nicely. The sushi and rolls were a sensation for the eye and the palate. We sampled three desserts; the profiterols, the green tea tiramisu, and the apple rafts. The profiterols were tasty and a delightful mix of fluffy pastry and ice cream. The tiramisu was a fusion off the original which was extremely light and interesting. The apple rafts were small eggrolls with apple inside. Out of all the desserts, the profiterols were the hit of the table. The cost, well, it is a bit on the expensive side for dinner. Actually the prices seem to be quiet reasonable when you first see them on the menu; but then as all the items are al a carte, the price spirals up quickly.

My husband and I and a couple with whom we dine out frequently were knocked out by Takami Sushi and Robata last night. We each had the Chef's Omakase tasting menu, and everything was superb and plentiful. The indoor/outdoor seating design takes full advantage of the drop-dead city views, and I don't believe there's a bad seat in the house. The service was excellent and very friendly, and when we accidentally left our credit card behind, there was a message on our answering machine when we got home asking us to call and let them know how we'd like to have the card returned to us. Takami compares very favorably with the pricier, more formal and at times pretentious WP24. It has a more comfortable, casual, yet hip vibe, and it was pleasantly bustling even on a Sunday night, which can be slow downtown. We will definitely go back.

I had an outstanding meal at Takami. I was seated quickly at the sushi bar and I thoroughly enjoyed my salmon filet that was prepared with gluten-free sauce. Our server, TC, was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu and helped to guide me through what options could be prepared gluten free. The views were fantastic. Special shoutout to the general manager for making me feel welcome and who took my medically-necessary gluten free restriction seriously.

This place is gorgeous. The VIEWS are AMAZING. The music was chill vibes. The food delicious and fulfilling. This was my husband and I very first visit. Well definitely be back. Cool date night spot with or without friends. I had bought a voucher from Travelzoo $59 for $100 towards food and drinks. So worth it. $10 flat rate valet parking. Come check this spot out for a sexy and intimate evening out.

Sit on the outer side away from the bar inside and you will get an amazing view of LA and you won't be caught up in the scene. Everything we ordered was great from fries to sushi to chicken wings. Loved the lychee martini.

First, the view is beautiful, and I loved the decor and atmosphere. We came with a party of 12 (pre-reserved) on a Friday night but the service was still phenomenal. Unfortunately I have some serious food allergies so had to stick to some plainer dishes but they were not plain at Takami. I had skewered mushrooms and zucchini, edamame, a caesar salad, and bites of a few other items. They were delicious.

I really enjoyed this restaurant. A lot of very cool drinks and small plates to share make it a good restaurant for a date or even with a group. Big fan of it being on the 26th floor too. A little on the pricier side but good!

This restaurant is an upscale sushi and robata restaurant with exquisite food and an even better atmosphere as its sits 21 floors up above the skyline of downtown LA. I have visited this spot a few times and while we have tried many things, the sushi is by far the best part of the experience. The Robata is great but when you find good sushi, then that is what you eat. The drinks are great as well and the staff are excellent.

Beautiful decor, pleasant waitstaff, but long waits on host/hostess and waiters. The bartenders is quick if you sit at the bar. In addition to lovely decor, the food is quite excellent. From the Takami edamame to the Halibut and Yellowtail sashimi, sushi rolls, Robata (grilled portions) all presented nicely, but simply amazing to taste. Inventive cocktails, but a very nice wine and sake list. I do suggest eating outdoors, though conversation from other diners and the noise of downtown can make it hard to hear. It's beautiful and an excellent experience overall.

At the top of a building, you get a really nice view on central LA. The place is relatively classy and the prices quite high but I liked the sushi, it was fresh and tasty!

Had to wait almost an hour after we checked in with our reservation. But the bartender's (Joe) service saved the day. He was awesome and he acknowledged and apologized for the long wait, something the hostess did not do when she sat us. Great food, great drinks and awesome view made for one great anniversary dinner.

Let them design the menu for you and the food will keep rolling, suhi, beef, lamb all outstanding. Love this place.

A wonderful view, vibrant scene and amazing food. We cannot speak highly enough about how wonderful and attentive our server was. The eggplant appetizer was memorable. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for quality food and a great atmosphere.

Nice restaurant. We went for dinner. It was busy with a loud atmosphere. Staff were welcoming and helpful. We ordered many items. Good sushi of fresh ingredients. Good service.

The food is amazing. Very fresh and flavoursome food. The service is also good. The portion size is bigger than I thought I would be so we over ordered. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Restaurant is on the 21st floor of a downtown L.A. high-rise. Reservation was promptly acknowledged. Décor is contemporary Japanese and very appealing. This is both a restaurant and bar. If at all possible, be seated outdoors (It is heated and well-protected from the weather with great city views). Both the bar and restaurant have indoor and outdoor seating. Staff was attentive and helpful. NOTE: much of the menu is inventive, unconventional, and superb. Except for sushi and sashimi, this is creative cooking at its best. Signature drinks are well worth trying: we had a Wicked Geisha (slightly spicy) and a Serrano Kiss (very spicy). The menu has multiple categories of foods: appetizers, soups & salads, Robata (grilled), Specialty Dishes, sushi & sashimi, and sushi rolls. Most courses are meant to be shared. Two outstanding appetizers were the creamy rock shrimp tempura and Arare calamari. Excellent Robata dishes were the Angus filet and the Sea Bass. Specialty dish worth having: Japanese Tacos. Desserts to have: Japanese Tiramisu and apple spring roll. Only the peppered ahi was less than superb. A great combination of excellent food, well crafted and creative, and superb views: the ultimate combination for a wonderful experience. Not inexpensive but well worth the experience.

Unless you are only interested in a view, or a raucous Happy Hour group pounding discounted drinks, this is not for you. I've been coming here for many years, and I brought an important client from out of town. It was more than embarrassing from start to finish. Without giving you a blow by blow, the food was really subpar... their "most popular" dishes were devoid of flavour... the sushi was not premium quality -- we dine globally at sushi bars where impeccable care is given to serving prime grades. We normally run up a big bill at Takami, but the first 6 small plates and sushi were so medicore, we called for our check and left. Our bill was $160 and we left our waitress a 20% tip as it was not her fault...but we were still hungry. We drove to a well known Sushi spot in West Hollywood, went to the sushi bar and had EXCELLENT sushi with them! Honestly, I feel Takami owners should compensate -- it was that bad.

Good location, good view, good food. Reasonably priced but tiny portions. Good happy hour

Servers often deliver to the wrong tables. Mediocre taste, over priced, over hyped. I made a terrible choice of going to this place for our anniversary dinner. The city view is blocked by taller buildings and the skyline window had the blinds down at night time; staff was unwilling to bring them up to enjoy a better view of Los Angeles

Very nice place, the tables outside enjoy a pleasant view of the skyscrapers of downtown LA, friendly and attentive service. We tested a bit of everything, from appetizers to entrees to dessert, I must say that the level is truly remarkable, the fish is very good and although the menu is truly varied in every dish nothing is left to chance. Last but not least, the prices are absolutely average.

We went for dinner with another couple. The taco tuna sushi is spicy- it was good. We ordered unfiltered saki- not crazy about it. The 2 sashimi platter were good and one sushi platter and the shrimp roll were good. Our bill came out to 250$ this included 18% they automatically added on.

Excellent sushi restaurant that is a bit of a hidden gem. The food and service are excellent and the view is breathtaking from inside or the terrace.

I went to downtown LA for a visit and decided to have lunch in this restaurant known to have a view of the downtown. But as I entered the restaurant and looked around, I was quite disappointed with what I saw. Not much view of the city in the area where the building is located. I turned my attention to the menu and order a few dishes which appeared to be fusion style. the tune burger turned out to be a highlight of the lunch. I really liked it. I also like the salad I ordered which has quite a mix of different ingredients including some seaweed. the dressing was also very light but tasty. I left the restaurant certainly not diappointed.

Even if the reviews were very average for this place, the fact that it is located next to our hotel was practical and the fact that my wife loves Asian food were the necessary requirements to book a table. Upon our arrival, we were confronted with a lounge that had more to do with a meat market that your typical restaurant bar, but hell, people have got to meet somewhere and we are here for the food anyways. The menu was fine, a little limited in terms of wines except for saki, which is not my thing. My wife orders a soup and two plates of sushi while I order a salad and chicken teriyaki from a waitress who did not seem to appreciate her job very much. We also ordered a bottle of white wine. My wife's soup arrived within a flash and the server offered me the wrong plate... I waited for my salad. My wife's first plate of sushi arrived while I waited for my salad... It finally arrived. My wife's second order arrived and I got my rice bowl, but no chicken. We waited, the server brought me another bowl of rice, I said that I already had one. Finally the chicken arrived... Very small plate of uneventful taste. My wife's sushi was average at twice the price. Finally, the waitress never returned to serve some wine, only the bill. As for the view, considering that this part of L.A. is not very nice, the only nice thing to see are lights, sort of like looking at a Christmas tree. If you are into trendy... go! If you are into food and wine, definitely stay away.

This is a must in the city. The food, location, service and atmosphere is absolutely top notch. The restaurant was full of families, couples, friends, it is open to all. It was a great experience.

Meaning it can hold it's own with any big city-type high end contemporary restaurant around the globe. We had amazingly attentive service, some very good to some excellent dishes and desserts, and different sakes from a huge list of choices. Four of us had many small plates of appetizers, sushi, robata, desserts, and 3 smallish bottles of sake for a complete and quite substantial meal, for $270 plus tip. Around 9pm the clientele shifted to younger mostly Asian, very well dressed in mostly dark colors, obviously dining before going to the adjoining nightclub. My wife, not a big sushi fan, loved it and will gladly go back many times (we live 2 blocks away). Among the standout dishes: Takami edamame, rock shrimp tempura, soft shell crab appetizer, lamb chop robata, shitake robata, new york and asparagus robata, Japanese tacos.

The food and drinks here are great . as a local, its on my list of places to meet up friends. It's a fun place to come for happy hour and watch the sunset & see the city lights! The crowd is stylish and mostly dressy or younger business professionals. For travelers, this place is about a block north of the 7th/Fig Metro station, so it's an easy walk. They also have valet parking if you are driving to downtown. Tip: If you are looking for a night out, this is a great place to come for dinner and then walk right in to the club (Elevate) across the hall without having to wait in line downstairs. You can hit up both places and then still get out for more fun while the night is going.

We had a fantastic meal. The sushi and sashimi were fresh and delicious and the service, especially from the manager Jackie, was outstanding. In fact, we’re going back tonight!

Very tasty sushi menu on the 21st floor of an office building. The tuna on sticky rice and sea bass robata were our favorites, but the albacore with jalapeño was a close second. Quality and service were very good, we would return.

Great view, outdoor but covered balcony, excellent food and watermelon mojitos. They had creative rolls and interesting entrees. The garlic edamame were also very good. Clearly a trendy local hotspot by the looks of the clientele.

This restaurant had a gorgeous view of downtown LA. Unfortunately the food was hit or miss. While the robata was excellent (fish, steak, and chicken), the tuna with jalapeño was awful. A manager came out after we returned it and informed us we would not be charged for it. While he made a great point to share that, I found it strange given he admitted it did not taste right. I thought of course that item should not be charged and would have thought he would have given us something else for free, which he did not do. That was fine but I did find him going on about us not having to pay for something that was bad odd. The drinks were good and the setting was great.

Tamaki serves my Japanese food, and my Japanese friend agrees: the food is amazingly well-prepared. The venue is a great indoor/outdoor space on the 21st floor of a downtown Los Angeles office building. We were there on a slow night and saw our server scarcely: she was not an attentive soul. We had to approach the hostess to settle our bill, who dutifully, if not cheerfully, took our money. When I dine out I want to eat in a restaurant which seems genuinely pleased to see guests and offer them a good meal. While the staff was courteous, they all appeared to want to be somewhere else, as if they were making a great sacrifice to be in attendance. This left a bad taste in my mouth.

Over rated restaurant. Ordinary sushi.... Greasy table, I've had much better sushi. Very expensive for what it is. Once is enough!

I grabbed a last minute reservation at this restaurant for dinner with an old friend. It's on the top floor of an office building downtown and has both indoor and outdoor seating. We sat outside and had a great time. Sushi was great as were their other items. Waiter helpful but not overly so. I get so tired of all the standard chain restaurants and this was a refreshing change. I'd definitely come back.

I really enjoyed this place. As others have noted, the view is phenomenal, offering a panorama of LA. The bar is great. Robata was cool to try, I had never seen this type of food anywhere else. I enjoyed a steak robata and corn-on-the-cob robata. Sushi was great as well -- tried a house specialty, as well as a tuna hand roll. Everything was very fresh and the combination of flavors was excellent. As some have noted, prices are high, but otherwise there is nothing to complain about at this fine establishment.

Happy Hour menu and pricing is more than satisfying for early dinner. Tuna tartar on won ton shells should not be missed.

I had heard both positive and negative feedback about Takami Sushi & Robata so decided to try it for myself. In summary it is not a place that I would return to because there are a lot of other Sushi & Robata Restaurants in LA that offer better quality food, and several other with better view. We tried several different appetizers, sushi and robata dishes ($500 worth) but neither of them gave us an ahh moment.

The atmosphere was excellent, the city views from the 21st floor at sunset were amazing. The sushi was outstanding, the service was excellent and prompt. My dining experience could not have been better.

This was the second time I visited Takami in the last few months. This time just for happy hour. Happy hour hear is a terrific deal The small plates are only $4 each, and there is a small, but decent drink list for $5. The sushi trio was fantastic, the pepper tuna melted in the mouth. The albacore was fresh and light. It is hard to keep albacore so fresh, as it gets a fishy off note very quickly. This one was perfect. The salmon was also fresh and delicious. That was a terrific start followed by many more small plates that we enjoyed with gusto. The chicken robata combination plate was presented beautifully, with three kinds of chicken (breast, thigh and wing) done tenderly and covered with a subtle but tasty sauce. The calamari was tender and the crust delightful. The popcorn shrimp were lightly breaded tempura style. The spicy tuna spread on wontons was a real treat. The previous time I had come with 5 others for dinner and we were able to share an even wider variety of sushi, sashimi and robata. All were delicious. The service staff were attentive, helpful and friendly. We enjoyed the outdoor patio with wonderful views across the top of the city. We stayed around for over 3 hours and never felt rushed out. We made temporary friends with other patrons who sat near and around us. The patio exudes camaraderie. The only downside - since the outside is considered a "patio", the restaurant allows smoking. Fortunately there were only two brief takers. After I asked the second one to stop, they did not pick up another cigarette. Seriously, I do not see that Takami would lose any business if they banned smoking. I strongly urge them to do so.

To have open windows (and heated seating areas) on the 21st floor in downtown LA was unique. The small plates were very small but also very good. If you ordered chicken, you received one skewer. The prices were on the high side.

This restaurant was very disappointing. It started off very positive. The views are great and it had a nice atmosphere. And the edamame was delicious. But it went downhill from there. The sushi was very expensive and honestly not at all good. Very disappointing. But even more disappointing was the service. We ordered 6 rolls and they came at very different times. We waited for one for close to a half hour after the others and it only came after we had to ask for it. Our waiter never came to refill water or to check on us. At some point he finally came back to the table with a printed check even though we actually wanted to order more drinks and dessert. Once we ordered those, he never came back. We spoke to the manager about the situation and he did not react how I would expect. All he did was bring us water. I would not recommend!!

Celebrated a friends birthday here. Every course was delicious. Service was very attentive and friendly. Also, the views of the city lights was beautiful. I highly recommend!

The restaurant is on the 21st floor of a building in heart of downtown Los Angeles. When you enter the restaurant you immediately feel welcomed by either the wonderful staff or the beautiful interior of the place. What really grabs your attention is the outdoor area of the place. It feels so pleasant seating in the outdoors that you really lose track of time. The food is great in anyway you can think of. The sushi is fresh and very delicious, the Robata is absoloutly amazing, try the lamb chop it is out of this world. They also have a menu for the none sushi eaters. My most favorite was Penthouse roll, Sensation roll and off course the Halibut carpaccio. Then from the main dish selection I loved the seared Ahi tuna, yum yum. There was not a dish that we didn't like. If you plan on gong there on a Friday or Saturday go to their nightclub, adjacent to the restaurant. You'll be surprised how much fun you end up having.

On the 21st floor, my colleague and I weren't sure how it would be. It had been a long day and the restaurant was just blocks from our hotel. Got off the elevator and through the bar area. Four attractive women in the mid-20's checked out we two old guts (60ish). Chose to sit "outside", as it was in the 70's. I had the Miso Caesar salad and Tuna Crudo. Both were excellent and were both well-prepared and presented.

The restaurant is located in a high rise building, but it has fun bar area as well as sushi and cooked robata yaki. Although the place is a bit pricey, it is great to take guests where the place itself can be entertaining.

The sushi was good and the fish was fresh, especially the Toro and the Japanese scallop and uni with quail egg. On the robata, the lamb was amazing - overall good restuarant and good view of the LA skyline.

I am not a sushi fan but was able to find several items that I enjoyed. Went with a group of co-workers after work, the waiter and busboy were both a bit surely at first when we indicated we were only there for drinks and appetizers but warmed up considerably when we ordered several. A nice wine selection, I enjoyed an excellent Chardonney. Much better than expected.

On the 21st floor, great view of DTLA. LOVE their enclosed patio seating area. Great place for Happy Hour time! The Service: Wonderful~ Our server, Toni, is sweet & attentive. Very pleasant dining experience. The Food: Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice - Crispy Rice Cakes topped with Spicy Tuna, Avocado, & Jalapeno. Love this appetizer! Cute little rice cakes topped with spicy tuna. Very addictive~ Takami Sashimi Platter - If you don't like too much carb (rice), sashimi platter is the excellent choice. 6 different kinds of sashimi, nice varieties. Good quality food. Robota - Shitake & Asparagus. Love the shitake mushroom. Halibut Carpaccio - Thinly sliced Halibut, topped with Sea Salt, & Yuzu Oil. Just melted in your mouth~ The halibut is so fresh. Just need a little bit of sea salt & yuzu oil to bring out the flavor!! Perfect dish~ The Parking: Valet parking $7

Not sure what the hype is about this restaurant. We went for dinner, service was fine but the food is average at best. I would call this American Japanese, not very authentic at all.

a client first showed me to Takami. it's our regular when we're both in town. i'm sure there are so many more better options in LA, but when we're in DTLA and near of the office this place is where we head. the service is twelve stars if i could - great atmosphere and view. you really can't find anything like it in LA. enjoy it!

First, this place is on the high end, but unfortunately the food is not. Miso soup was nice and well seasoned. Bacon wrapped tomatoes were good, but not outstanding. Sushi was good, but again nothing stood out as exceptional. I would not return.

The restaurant is located on the 21st floor, the setting is very warm and welcoming. A great city vibe through the building of downtown LA. The food was good and I believe the presentation could have been a bit more define. I was told the restaurant was busier than normal due to the convention. Probably better experience when quieter for a more relaxing evening.

Probably one of the best DTLA views - but the real star of Takami is the food. Shishito peppers, great sake, and world class sushi.

High atop 811 Wilshire, the open air view of downtown is spectacular. While pricey due to the view, the quality of the sushi is great. Super for business events or night on the town. Service was helpful and the view was supreme!

We decided to head over to the restaurant for after-work drinks and a bite. We went on a Monday night and to our surprise the patio/outside area was packed (thankfully we made reservations). Valet parking is available for $7 dollars. The restaurant is located on the 17th floor which is the perfect view for downtown LA. We ordered some rolls and the Seabass, all of which where good! The atmosphere and "scene" was very energetic and lively. Bar service was extremely slow. You might consider adding another bartender. We were going to order another round of drinks but decided against it since we waited over 10 minutes and still didn't have our drink. No Bueno. Other than that, overall experience was great and would recommend to friends.

This is an Asian Fusion restaurant serving foods that are Asian in origin but international in execution. Dinner on a Sunday evening. Reservations made in advance. Check-in was prompt and our request for a semi-outdoor table was fulfilled. I highly recommend sitting in this area- partially open space on the 24th floor of a downtown high-rise, great views and fresh air. Our waiter was professional, pleasant, and incredibly helpful in selecting both the number of small and large plates we ordered as well as made suggestions for the freshest fish courses and best tasting items to order. A full bar along with creative and interesting alcoholic beverages. A large selection of appetizers that serve two are offered, along with larger plates, sushi and sashimi. Items to order that were excellent: Japanese Taco, Rock Shrimp, Robata Lamb, Robata Salmon, Kanpachi Sashimi, and 21st Roll. Deserts were very good, not outstanding. Pricing was very reasonable for the quality and quantity of all items. A truly memorable experience.

I don't mind that the rules for large groups are automatic 18% gratuity, in fact historically with very few exceptions I tip way over that. On arrival with my group of 12, I was asked to sign a contract guaranteeing the tip as well as the "two hour" dine and leave rule. A literal contract signed on paper required before seating. Wow, I told myself, food must be amazing... well hate to say folks, $1500 later ... it hardly sizzled. The service was good, the view from the 21st floor was spectacular .... but the food .... Just Okay.

I took my boyfriend here for his bday and was extremely happy with the whole experience! They had afforDable valet parking, easy reservation options, and the location is gorgeous! I mentioned in my reservation that it was for a bday and from the moment we entered, they made him feel very special. Our server, Casey, was funny and absolutely made for a great evening. He let us have our alone time, but never made us feel forgotten abut. He was prompt and knowledgable! The food was amazing! (Dragon roll is to die for!) Our beers were a little bit pricey, but the food was priced right for the quality and size. The VIEW! If you can request a spot along the outside edge! It is incredible and even at night we only needed a light jacket since the heaters were on! We will definitely be returning as soon as we can!

Located on the 21st floor, you get a nice view of the city. Food was fine, a lot of choices. Especially enjoyed the 21st sushi roll.

The food is absolutely delicious - starting with Ahi Poki Martinin (appetizer), delicious robata - sea bass, stteak, asparagus, sushi or some fabulous rolls -Takami is located on a top floor of a building in downtown LA with great views of the skyscape. Great for sunset dinner or even better after dark - hip crowd, very busy.

Meeting my nephew for dinner, as he is a big sushi fan. My daughter recommended Takami. The view from the restaurant is fantastic, and with valet parking, it is pretty convenient to get around. Now mind you Sushi on a Sunday, is not typically a good idea, as most restaurants receive their fish on Monday or Tuesday, but our options were limited as most Sushi restaurants were closed. We did not have reservations but were promptly seated. Things went downhill afterwards. Our server greeted us fairly quickly, and took our drink orders while we waited for my nephew to join us. Needless to say like many reviewers have noted that is went things went downhill. Drinks took forever to come out, and our water glasses constantly went unattended. It seemed like our waiter constantly went MIA. Our drinks were finally served and the waiter did explain that the food would come out as it was prepared. We ordered the house Edamame and Calamari for appetizers. The edamame was seasoned well, but the Calamari had some type of sweet breading which threw off the taste. For cocktails we had the Lychee martinis, and some sake. Which were not bad. We ordered several rolls, some sushi, and sashimi, and to be honest nothing really stood out. While you pay a premium for the sushi, i think its all about the location versus the quality of the food. My nephew ordered a sushi platter, and i ordered some hamachi. His platter arrived, and after waiting for my order for 10 minutes, i finally found our waiter, and inquired as to where my order was. He told me since they serve "family style" so my order was on my nephew's platter. I thought it odd, and told him had they told me i would have not had an issue. He told me he would put in another order for me, and have it prioritized. Yup you guessed it, priority to them was 15 minutes for 2 pieces of sushi. The Manager(Andrew) came by during appetizers, and introduced himself, which is always a nice touch. But when he came by at the close of our meal, i expressed my disappointment with the SLOW service, and the inattentiveness of the staff. He indicated that they received more reservations than a normal Sunday night. Considering there was no one waiting for a table, and the fact that this seems to be a consistent theme from other reviewers, it appears there are issues at hand. To his credit, he made some adjustments to our bill, but what should have been a 1 hour meal turned into 2.5 hours. Final assessment: Food is pedestrian, and overpriced. Location is great. Drinks are good. Poor/Slow service will dampen your experience.

A special place on the 25th floor with stunning views of downtown. Sushi excellent and presentations of all dishes-rolls in particular worthy of photos.

Visited this magnificent place in downtown Los Angeles twice (one year apart). In couple words - breath taking view, mind blowing fresh food, tastefully garnished dishes... Yet with a small drop of poison - the service (last visit only) was unbelievably sluggish. Each guest in our party of eight had their dishes served in about 15-25 minutes apart. Plus we came with our own cake and were charged an extra $30.00 to have it cut and served. Well, things happen I guess. Other than that unpleasant episode, we had a quite enjoyable evening/night with about $1000.00 check (including two bottles of Pinot Noir, couple other alc. drinks and 18% gratuity). All the drinks were quite tasty. The attire - casual, business.

This restaurant is the ultimate LA experience. It sits on the 21st floor of a downtown LA office building with wrap around windows and tons of soft, comfy, cushiony sofas, ottomans and chairs. The vibe is relaxed and easy-going - the views are spectacular - especially as the sun goes down. Excellent sushi/sashimi, great Robata and grilled options for non-sushi eaters, dangerously good specialty drinks, great wine list, some fantastic tasting options (try the flight of sake - giving you tastes of exceptional sake, both hot and cold. Very hip, very cool - definitely a "don't miss"!!

I have eaten at Takami a half dozen times, bringing friends and last week my wife for the experience - it is always very enjoyable. On the 21st floor overlooking downtown LA with the window line only partly covering the outside opening, it provides a stunning experience. The food has always been very high quality as well - including a very creative sushi menu along with a good choice of Robata (grilled) and cooked food, and great drinks. I highly recommend it for a truly special meal.

Takami has never disappointed me or any of my fellow diners over the last 5 years. Their service is always friendly and helpful. The food is excellent. We love the view and ambience here.

The restaurant was wonderful. Sushi selection was excellent. Atmosphere offers one of a kind views of the LA skyline.

Sushi= A+. Robata= A+. Drinks= A+. Even the atmosphere was great! We got to sit outside, and there were heaters on the wall to keep out the chill. The entire evening was a lovely experience. Great waitstaff !!!

Since I'm not a big Sushi fan, I'll just talk a bit about the physical space and service. Takami is one of three places downtown with fabulous views (The Standard roof, and Perch being the other two. City Club would qualify but it's private) The views really are worth the trip. The service has always been outstanding and the drinks delicious. Definitely worth a visit.

bland food and terrible service. Takes forever to get anything you can waiyt an hour for your dish to come out after everyone else finished. Its a big fight to get your food. This restaurant is a real zero

The happy hour is a great deal which may explain why the place was crowded at 5:30 pm on a weekday. We had a nice table in the open lounge area. The views are indeed worth a visit. We had wine and several appetizers; although we waited a very long time for our wine. We ended up having to go to the bartender, after which it took about 5 to 10 minutes more to get our drinks. The appetizers were standard sushi rolls and other fare - moderate quality, certainly not the most authentic or high quality Japanese food in LA. If you're looking for a cheap happy hour with decent food & prices, great view and don't mind the sloppy service, this is a good place to visit. I don't think I would go outside of happy hour as the prices and quality don't warrant it. I may go back again if I'm in the area for happy hour.

We went for my wife's birthday, this place has everything for a nice dinner and atmosphere. Since my wife is a fan of sushi she had a great time, they also serve food for the non sushi people like myself. The service was great also, you have to make sure to mention in your reservation if you want a table on the outside of closer inside the restaurant since this is on the 21st floor of a high rise building and their setup is different since there is no window glass on the outside, making that a good place to eat and see the downtown skyline, if you seat on the outside wear a light sweater if you get cold easily. Food is pricey but very worth it, after that there is a night club next door where you can continue your night out on the town.

The rolls were great, very fresh what you would expect. Service was not the best, they brought us four plates of rolls but ended up having to wait for wasabi, ginger and soy sauce for awhile, after asking 3 times we finally received it. We were in no hurry and surprisingly I was not irritated, probably sought revenge by sitting at our table for about 45 min. after our meal was over. All in all great food very poor service, not by our server who I think was forced to cover too many tables but mostly by her support staff.

I've been coming here since they first opened, I've probably been over 20 times. There is so much choice in LA for Japanese fusion/sushi, but this is my favorite. Why? 1) view: you are on the rooftop and have great views of the city. You can sit indoors or outdoors. Even in winter outdoor is nice as they have heat lamps (unless it's too windy, then sit inside). 2) decor: beautiful 3) staff: friendly, knowledgable on the menu 4) good for business or pleasure (little pricey, so more a special event place - unless you come at happy hour, then it's pretty cheap for the quality) 4) and of course THE FOOD!! Everything is good but here are my favorites: Spicy tuna on crispy rice. Yes, everyone in LA does this dish, but Takami does it best. The tuna has just the right amount of spice and the rice cake is crunchy - YUM Rock shrimp tempura - good size portions and served tossed in a spicy mayo Albacore with crispy onions - unique as the onion are little crispy balls Japanese tacos - filled with real crab in a crispy shell Takami edamame - it is stir fried in a soy butter sauce - you must try this! From the Robata grill: the lamb chops are AMAZING, and served with a truffle sauce - you must try these; sea bass, mushrooms, steak w/asparagus I'm not a big fan of rolls in general, so I'm the wrong person to ask on this (I just don't like rice). My husband likes them all, but his fav's are the 21st roll and the Crab Roll. I've never had anything I didn't like. So go with a group and try as much as you can! You won't be disappointed :) Make sure to call for a ressie or get your points on Opentable - they often have 1000 point seatings. Request an outside booth (or inside booth if the weather is poor). Oh, and I almost forgot....if you go on a Friday or Saturday night, they share the floor with Elevate, an upscale lounge with a DJ. You'll enjoy the same beautiful views, just the flip side of the building. Be sure to dress nice, they are strict with dress code (no sneakers, tshirts, etc). So have your dinner, then go work it off next door on the dance floor :) I think they open at 9 and start to get busy around 10. Cover is usually around $20, but see if your server can get you a free pass to go inside. Sometimes if you are spending money at the restaurant, they'll comp the guests.

We made this our Friday night destination prior to going across the hall for Elevate Lounge. We were able to walk right in at 10 p.m. for dinner despite the place being quite crowded. We were pleasantly surprised to find out that valet parking in this DTLA locale was only $7! Delicious sushi, just be prepared to shell out some bucks for it. Birthday cake included and much appreciated!!

There is a sign out front that boasts happy hour prices. In the restaurant, I am told that the happy hour prices are only available at the bar and lounge area. This does not make that much sense to me. Then, I noticed the prices of the entrees and realize this is a bad policy. The sushi dinner is $34 and the sashimi dinner is $38. Neither come with anything - soup or salad. The small salad portion costs $7 and 2 pieces of extra sushi costs more than $10 on average. Beers cost on average $9-10. I seems to me that the restaurant could offer happy hour prices in the dining room...especially because of the sign out front. The sashimi was good and the cuts were generous...however, some fish had 2 pieces and others had 3...again that made no sense to me. I did not find the 2 sushi orders to be that good. The dish looked beautiful. It was filled with artistic vegetables...although they were wilted and soft and actually tasted bad. Dinner for one including 2 beers -$100. I did not get the "wow" factor, which I expect when I spend that much on dinner. I would not go back

Really enjoyed the food here, the robata skewers were great... our serves were fab and really friendly

I went to Takami Sushi for dinner with a friend. We had the swordfish carpaccio, which was fabulous. We also had spicy tuna on crispy rice, yum... The service was wonderful! The manager moved though the whole resteraunt, checking on customers, taking comments or questions. The view from the 22nd floor is spectacular. Takami has facilities for catering events. It is really a great place to have dinner before going to the Staples Center.

This place was listed as Japanese and it is, but be forewarned. It is a restaurant that is more tapas-style with small, beautifully prepared, and very expensive food. The waitress took awhile to get to us, suggested we try ordering from the different kitchens for the full experience, and then forgot to put in our son's sushi order. As the kitchens close earlier than the restaurant's actual closing time, he never got the sushi. She kindly compensated by offering a free dessert with an apology. The food is beautiful but appetizer in size. The view is lovely and the establishment seems frequented by young and beautiful people. Good for an expensive date, but not for families to eat dinner.

We were recommended by the Ritz Carlton and are thankful for that. The food and service were well executed even with children at our table. The chefs were honest when I inquired about the integrity of the Uni, which I am a huge fan. It was fresh and clean, so I ended up ordering 3 orders. I know, I'm a glutton for Uni. They had a nice selection of rolls and a good mix of other menu items if you are not into sushi style dishes. They have some great mixes of craft Japanese beers that you won't find in other places as well. The manager was cordial and professional and the open air views of the city are a pleasure to dine by.

We stayed in LA for 4 days in celebration of my birthday. We had reservations for this restaurant & we was not disappointed. This place was nothing short of 5 stars. We were about 10 minutes late for our reservations but we was still seated immediately & had a very pleasant server. She recommended several items from the menu and we did order a couple of those recommendations. We had drinks, appetizers and our main meals all came out without any issues or delays. I had some delicious tempura eggplants & grilled zucchini and my husband had steak and a small tray with octopus, mushrooms & lambchops. His steak & lamb chops were cooked to perfection!! Once we finished dinner we had a VIP section at the club/lounge next door. After a minor communication error, we were provided our drinks & brought my bday in California style 😀 We highly recommend this place to anyone.

This restaurant is located on the 21 floor of a business building and offers beautiful views of downtown LA. The atmosphere is very nice and cozy and offers a refined menu with good choices of appetizers, soups, salads, robatas, sushi and special dishes. Also they have good drinks, wines, sakes and beers. Me and my wife had Miso Soup, Baked King Crab Roll, Dragon Roll and Angus Filet and all were very tasty. Unfortunately the service was not good (our drinks arrived after foods) and too slow. We went on a Wednesday night and the restaurant was not crowded. Even so, it is worth a visit to have a great time and eat good food.

You can do much better in LA for sushi, sashimi and Robata. Nice top floor location, overlooks the Standard hotel and roofs of LA. Im thinking it probably is a better place for dinner because it has a clubby type field to the place. Prices are on par with other great sushi restaurants with sushi that didn't blow me away. It's good not great.

To be simple : the food was very good quality and taste very good. The service was pretty fast on this busy night I went. The view especially in the night was beautiful. So I’ll recommend this restaurant especially for couples ( very romantic) but it also fits for big groups of friends or family ( they have French fries for kids) !

We bought a voucher for the Omakase tasting dinner through Travelzoo and didn't know what to expect but it was wonderful. The fish and sushi were so fresh, beautifully served and just melted in your mouth. The view from the 21st floor is also stunning and the service was excellent. Our waiter, Scott, was attentive but never intrusive, giving us time between courses to enjoy the outdoor patio. We will definitely return!

Culinary professionals will tell you that if you can smell fish it is not fresh. Stepping out of the elevator into Takami the other evening, the stench of fish was decidedly overwhelming. I have never before been in a sushi bar where this has been a problem. The overpriced food and service are mediocre. The indoor/outdoor space is fun, but, as for the views, there are definitely better. Downtown L.A. is definitely experiencing gentrification, and these kinds of trendy places are appearing faster than you can say Masahara Morimoto. Whether any will truly stand the test of time, we will see.

I went to Takami to celebrate my sisters birthday. She really wanted to go mostly for the view there, which I have to admit I would give a 4/5 stars for the view. The service was not so great. We got our sushi and couldn't find our waitress to ask for some soy sauce because the one on our table was empty so was the ones on the tables around us. Sushi was not that great. Everything was just really dry and wasn't all that tasty. Sushi restaurants such as Octopus, Or Midori have much tastier sushi. So I take another 1 star off of that leaving this place in my opinion 3/5

You're paying for the location & the view. You can get the same if not better sushi down the street in Little Tokyo. That said, this place is pretty good. The spicy tuna on crispy rice appetizer is to die for! I would be happy with those alone! The bento boxes are a decent deal for the $. I haven't been here in a while because my budget can't handle it but if given the opportunity, I'd return. Although, I prefer Frying Fish in the Japanese Village Market much better.

As others have mentioned Takami is on the 21 floor of an LA office building with very nice downtown views. The decor is contemporary with seating at the sushi bar, inside and outside tables. We sat outside and although there are heaters it was a bit nippy. Inside the restaurant it was bit noisy. The windows of the restaurant are floor to ceiling so no matter where you sit there is a view. For chatting I would opt for the outside. The staff is very well trained friendly and attentive. The menu is varied, inventive and sushi was perfectly prepared and served. With the robata menu if a guest does not enjoy raw fish there are other options. I thought the menu was well priced for the quality of the selection.

Great place for sushi...........................................................................

We popped in here for lunch on a hot LA day. The view is great & the good tasty, fresh & beautifully presented. We felt that the lunchtime business crowd was a bit pretentious but don't let this put you off a downtown gem.

I had dinner with four Japanese friends at terrace (veranda) area. The decor of the restaurant was sophisticated but the view from this restaurant on about 20th floor was not nice. Also, since our table was at the end of the veranda, the server came to our table less frequently and this made us a bit frustrated. The Tempura, Yakitori and Sushi we had were fair and acceptable for us, but they can be good qualities for the local people. Since the prices were not so expensive, it could be worth of trying this restaurant for those who like Japanese meals.

What a fantastic experience. I had a wonderful outdoor seat with an enjoyable sunset view. I also want to offer special recognition and thanks to my server Cole for exceptional service, great explanation of menu options, and perfect recommendations. Ultimately I went with the Chef’s Omakase and could not be more pleased with my choice. Every course was outstanding. Super interesting presentation and variety across course and timed perfectly. I will gladly be returning here every time I find myself in DTLA. Well done to the entire team.
Best sushi rolls!
My husband and I had an amazing experience at Takami. Their food is incredible - try the 21st roll...the crab will melt in your mouth, you will never eat imitation crab again! The best part of the night (if it can get better than the food) was the warm, friendly and energetic bartender we met, named RC. We were waiting for our table at the bar and he made our wait so relaxing and fun! Very friendly! He makes amazing drinks...the Plum Ginger martini was so yummy!! You can tell he really enjoys what he does and it makes him happy to make everyone's experience a truly enjoyable one. Our server was just as enthusiastic and helped with food recommendations. This place is on the 21st floor in downtown LA so the view apparently is spectacular. Unfortunately, for us on that night, it was cloudy but it was still nice to be higher up and be in the covered balcony. Highly recommend making the drive out for this true LA ambience, flavor and service!!!
