Talula's Daily - why yes, I'd go there daily.

By Melinda M |

Stumbled across this gem while on a walk one morning. Tucked in a more residential area near Washington Square, you don't want to overlook this place. Best scone we've had in a long time. Unique little lavender lemon cake. Scrumptious. Didn't have a camera this time to take pics and post what a cute cafe & market this is. Will have to return for lunch or prix fixe pm dining. Friendly service rounds out the experience and to give this place 5⭐️s.

Healthy Eating, Tasty Food in a Country Home Style Setting

By toga1k |

Another great find for us during our recent visit to Philadelphia. The Talula Daily was on our way to the Independence Hall area. We had breakfast there and we made sure to come back here for lunch as well. The salads and sandwiches are delish. The country home style setting is relaxing. Apparently they also serve prix-fixe tasting course dinner but unfortunately it was all booked up, or we would've gone there for dinner as well. Many of their cusotmers seem to be workers from those hospitals nearby. Will return for sure next time in Philly.

Fresh and Flavorful!

By Michael D |

Great selection of very fresh green salads, side dishes and entrees. Hot and cold. The eggplant parmesan was excellent as was the beet with goat cheese salad. Not to be missed is the bakery side where I had an awesome zucchini bread. Charming spot for a nice quick light meal.

Grown and matured in such a good way!

We've been going to Talula's for the past year on a monthly basis. Over that time, I have to say that the meals have been nothing short of excellent, but last night was so exceptional that I had to give it my rare 5 star that I reserve for places like Alinea. Over the past 12 months the chef has prepared increasingly more complex and subtle dishes that are wonderful without being fussy. They are real food. The pork that we had was sublime with a hint of smoke and a fusion of savory and mildly sweet flavors in the stuffing and garnish. The soup was a corn chowder, with of all things tiny bits of watermelon. Different and just wonderful. The cheese course was, as always splendid and the dessert (I am not a big fan of desserts) was to die for. The crust on the peach cobbler was wonderful and the almond ice cream was a delightful surprise that was an unexpected and delicious pairing. Best of all, the staff at Talula's is fabulous. It is like going to eat with family. They are warm, welcoming and highly competent. By the way, I think it a bit unfair to criticize the Daily on the basis of not being able to choose a la carte. Although they will accommodate allergies and so forth, the place is what it is - a reasonably priced 5 course meal that changes by the month. If you want a la carte - go next door to the Garden.

A gem

By mgwis |

We were planning to go for brunch to Talula Garden but after we were rejected due to no reservations at 10 am and the restaurant barely quarter full we decide to stop here. Wow!!! What a perfect little spot loved everything about it. We treed the meat and veggie quiche and strawberry scone we all so yummy and fresh. My son had a ham croissant and it was amazing. It's a good thing he didn't finish his as I was thrilled to try it and wish I got it for my self. The place is very clean, service is excellent and food is delish!!! We are definitely coming back.

Wonderful place to pick up salads, sandwichs or other ready made yummy food!

By SuperMom48 |

We were staying next door at the Morris House Hotel and needed an easy option for lunch the first day and had 6 people so a variety of food interests. This is a pick up, to-go place (I think some of the previous reviews are for the restaurant next door). The food here was really great - we got the Beet Salad (which came with a fantastic horseradish dressing), mushroom risotto, and a few other items. Food was very fresh. We liked it so much we decided to get food from there our last day as well. They had a few tables outside to sit with your food purchased inside (not table service).

Lives up to the buzz

By Robin M |

The word on the street for this place is buzzing and it didn't disappoint. You HAVE to get a cheese plate. The owner, Aimee Olexy, is a cheese connoisseur and she knows her stuff. We had the Master Collection and it was the highlight of the meal. I took a chance and had the bluefish with gnocchi which was very tasty and freah but I'd probably try something different next time. My partner had the lamb which was very nicely prepared and presented. We split the desert that was a take on a S'more and it was a nice finishing touch along with the French Press decaf. The pacing was a little irregular (our brioche roll was served when we were almost finished our entres but it was so good it was worth the wait! And our desert came well before our coffee) but overall it was a lovely evening with some really delicious food.

Not the best breakfast place

By wh0cares11 |

Went for breakfast on a Sunday, not a ton of breakfast type food options. The fritta was good, but nothing solid. Good coffee and the cookie was solid.

At last, a decent coffee in the USA.

By Brendon1973 |

After days of dried, burnt, stale coffee in New York and New Jersey we find, rising like an oasis, this place. The staff were super welcoming and the food was fabulous. However, the coffee, the coffee - a perfect short latte (aka a flat white) and the soul was recharged after wandering the coffee desert!!!

Did all the right things ...

By kevin r |

Can't say enough good things about Talula's. I had been to Talula's Daily a number of times for lunch, but we decided to try Talula's Table for the first time. When we arrived, service had gotten backed up - which happens when you have reservations late in service on a Friday night. Not only were we immediately told about the delay, but encouraged to have a seat in the front and a drink on Talula's for the inconvenience. The delay ended up being longer than expected, but rather than doing what a lot of other restaurants do, the staff at Talula's continued to take care of us - kept checking in with updates (at just the right intervals, so as not to be annoying), then offering us appetizers/snacks on the house ... just doing the little things that so many restaurants have lost touch with. When we finally sat down - really late in the evening's obviously busy service - we were STILL taken care of. Clearly, the kitchen's service didn't falter either, given the hour. Everything was fresh and good. Delays happen, for sure. But, Talula's staff and kitchen really stepped up and made a positive out of the situation. (Specific props to Nicole H, who was working the front of house when we were there and made certain we knew how important we were to the restaurant.) Not only will I go back, but I'll continue to recommend the Table to others.

Charming place for coffee, pastries and more

By Rosie S |

Delicious coffee and pastries with indoor and outdoor seating. Also a market. Right across from the park and in the historic district.

What a Delightful Talula

By jzar0ven |

The decor was immediately captivating and warm with a contemporary chic tone and by chance we were the only table at that time dining. We reviewed the wine menu and weren't all in agreement so the server offered us the full selection from next door at Talula's Garden. The California Zinfindel was the perfect choice for the pre-set appetizer of Crispy Duck Kataifi with Date Sauce. Wow, what a great first course. It was followed by a autumnal soup of three winter squashes with apple garnish just perfect for a chilly November night. The Trout Rockefeller entree was exceptional and set the meal off as one of the best we'd had this year. The servings were very generous so by the time we were served the cheese selections, we were limited to lazy nibbling. Oh, there's more? Yes! A cheerful plate of enchanting cookies which included macarons and several other delicious varieties. Atlanta may be my home, but Talula's has my heart.

Unexpected

By James S |

Often times popular, upscale restaurants will spin off a less pricey and more casual version of their "hit". Sometimes this new concept works, often times it fails. I'm happy to say Talula's Daily is a big hit in my book! It's on beautiful Washington Square and on warm days you can sit outside and look at the historic green square. Inside its like your grandma's country kitchen. You can order your coffee at the counter and get a great cheese plate or prepared sides at the deli counter. Pre-made (but fresh) salads and sandwiches can be selected in the pre-made case. Yes, they also serve wine! Lots more to look at and take home, things like gourmet jams and salts. I had a delicious curried egg salad sandwich. It was very good, the curry added a unique twist to a good sandwich. I had a watermelon and feta salad that was a refreshing summer treat. I had a slice of zucchini bread that was amazing! The best zucchini bread I ever had. My lunch was tasty and unexpectedly sophisticated. The counter help was helpful and friendly. I wasn't sure how the system worked here and they jumped in to explain and help me. They didn't make me feel stupid, but made me feel welcomed. They do an evening secret supper club that I'm eager to try. It was a nice surprise to find Talula's Daily, it's become an unexpected favorite.

All it was billed to be!

By jimcash |

My wife and I had dinner here last night and the experience was just what we hoped for. With the price fixe meal we had the wine pairing and every course was wonderful. I won't go into each dish since you can find them on the website. We especially appreciated then attention given to explain each course and why the particular wine was selected. This is not an inexpensive choice but one worth it.

Lemon Ginger Scones - a must!

By Terry D |

Yes - the lemon ginger scones are ridiculous. They usually run out by 11am, but are so worth it. Get an espresso and that scone and be happy for the rest of the day. (The fixed price dinners are also delicious and entirely worth it as well - just so long as you can deal with relinquishing your choice.)

Charming spot to hang out and sweet staff

By Rebecca G |

We stopped in at Talula's for a glass of wine and a snack in the late afternoon. The place is really sweet and comfortable with a kind staff, and we enjoyed hanging out. It might be a big confusing with the self-service in the afternoon, but it didn't bother us. I had a side of brussel sprouts with bacon, and a glass of Reisling, both very good . My husband's ham sandwich on a croissant was really generous. We look forward to going back for dinner, especially when that charming garden is open.

A special food experience

By jacquelinerose5 |

We decided to try the five-course meal on a Sunday night with friends. It was wonderful. The food was very creative, but not weird. Very tasty and elegant. The restaurant is casual and extremely comfortable, with a country-vibe. There are not many tables and the noise level was quite low. We were able to hear each other all night. This is a fixed price meal and is a bit expensive. But we will definitely go back for a special food experience.

Exceeded Expectations

By HatesBaggageClaim |

I have to admit that in general, I'm not a huge fan of Stephen Starr restaurants. And when I saw the January menu, I was underwhelmed. I made the reservation anyway because of the reviews on Yelp. I'd also wanted to try Talula's Garden for a while, and this was a more affordable option. All I can say is, WOW. The service was amazing. The servers were friendly and knowledgeable. The meal was paced perfectly. We were served 5 courses over about 2.5 hours, but it never felt like we were waiting for our food. And every single item on the menu was delicious. I can't overstate how amazing the food was. We could barely walk when we left. My only regret is that we didn't do the beverage pairing. $35 gets a serving of sparkling wine, white wine, red wine, and beer or cider.

Never tire of the variety and freshness.

By Deby R |

We are in several days a week for breakfast, lunch, dinner or just a snack. We rely on the variety of so many fresh salads, sandwiches, baked goodies, prepared food that is excellent, as is the cheese options and accompanionments. The unique country-esque atmosphere is inviting to sit and get lost for an hour or so. Or sit outside and people watch at the fantastic Washington Square directly across the street. Better yet, get your items to go and go sit in the park or have a picnic.

It's become a daily stop

By red6111 |

Tucked into the building next to Talula's Garden is this lovely little niche of a restaurant. Don't let the size fool you, it is jam packed with mouth watering offerings. First off, a petite amount of fresh baked goods, zucchini bread (highly recommend the ultimate), scones, muffins and the like.....some I have to say on the small side but not small in price but delicious none the less. A full service coffee and tea bar. Up the steps into a small eat in area with private and family style tables, there is also seating outside. A cold case filled with fresh salads, and sandwiches and an enormous bottled drink array. Pan over to your right and you will find fresh cheeses and sausages as well as a case of prepared foods that will be heated up for you to take out....different grilled cheese everyday, salmon, chicken that looks divine as well as cooked vegetables. It's definitely a great alternative to fast food!

Quick Coffee and GF Muffin

By Mary L |

My husband and I just stopped in for a to-go coffee and muffin. I was able to order gluten free, which is always a nice treat! The chocolate cherry muffin was AMAZING! I bake gf all the time, and I just have no idea how they got it so light and fluffy! Talula's Daily - I NEED your muffin recipe!! Coffee was great too. We ordered caramel lattes, and they were not too sweet. I would definitely go again!

Great lunch/snack/coffee place

By Andyblue61 |

Great little spot, incl market like sales of fresh foods. Coffee, wine, salads, sandwiches. Bought some great raw Manchego. Nice atmosphere like a starbucks for eating and coffee.

Nice place for a quick bite

By Passpartous |

Had a nice chicken salad. Choice is hard! Service is nice and it's really nice to sit here plus I get to charge my phone! Oh, and enjoy some air-conditioning...

Great coffee

By Jacob M |

When visiting Philly I now make an effort to go to Talula's for coffee. The staff is friendly and they offer espresso in every way imaginable. I would give them another star if they had a wider variety of hot breakfast.

A Swing..... and a Miss

By Chris D |

I am a huge fan of Talula's Garden and thus had high expectations when I went to Talula's Daily for a "secret supper" on a recent Sunday night to enjoy a 5 course prix fix summer menu. The place is very casual and attractive. The staff is pleasant and professional. Unfortunately the food is just average. The first course of fried zucchini and blossoms was fried well but lacked salt and came with a flavorless sauce. The second course was a salad of tomatoes and figs and neither was ripe enough to be served. The main dish was shrimp and grits and again it lacked seasoning and any depth of flavor. The cheese course was very nice and the desert (a deconstructed s'more ) was fine. All in all, not great and at almost $200 for two (with wine, tax, and tip) you can find much better food for half the price almost anywhere in Center City Philadelphia.

A Fixed Price Joy

By Scott S |

Tried to walk-in at Talula's Garden, no luck, scored a lucky 7:00-1st seating at Talula's Daily. Even though it was Fixed Price Chef's menu, they accommodated our 5 year old daughter with a cavatelli and vegetables in a cream sauce taken from the Chef's menu parts of the evening. The price was reasonable and she loved it. All five courses coordinated well and we enjoyed them immensely. The staff was a real joy. Fully knowledgeable of the offerings with detailed descriptions of the Chef's creations as well as the 5 cheeses 4th course. Will definitely look to go again a experience what the Chef has cooked up.

Good lunch spot

By Asma |

We got confused between the restaurant and the grab and go section of this restaurant! We got soup, pasta and rice and they warmed it for us! All of it was good and a nice lunch spot if you don’t have a ton of time.

Very special

By Waylandtraveller |

Could not have had a more wonderful family birthday dinner than our visit here last weekend. The place is charming and quiet and cozy, and the food is to die for. Every course was amazing - one great flavor after another, and that is within each course. The staff was kind and friendly. The portions were just right. We can't wait to come back.

Every town should have Talulas

By artandbeer |

Wow. Surpassed expectations for local coffee spot. They have friendly staff, quality food and coffee, and reasonable prices. I was visiting, found this coffee fix and came back next day to take out lunch. Loved the slice of Lancaster Bacon, by the slice! Decadent. So nice they just ran out of something the customer in front of me wanted, and the deli comped her meal for nice older woman. That's exceeding expectations! Will hunt this place out next time!

Delicious vegetable wraps

By Traveller |

I had a business lunch here in September 2024. Talula’s Daily is located near Washington Square Park. We got vegetable wrap sandwiches which were delicious along with a baguette. I also got a lemon ginger scone for dessert. Everything is self-service. It is a very good place not far from the Philadelphia historical area.

Needs 2 certificates of excellence

By travelwithmycanon |

We've been enjoying the Talula's daily monthly changing "supper club" tasting menu for quite some time. It is our favorite restaurant in Philly. We love the food in addition to the value of a terrific and filling five course menu for 55$. Their attention to detail, flavor, service, beverage choices, and technique is noteworthy/exemplary. Some highlights over the years have been the Cioppini, skirt steak, fresh cavatelli with corn, lobster roll, leg of lamb, French onion dip, quail, cornbread in a ramakin, smores with smoked ice cream, fresh mint ice cream...the list goes on! Strong work, Aimee and team! We consider this the standard for our dining experiences.

Wow!

By Jkpeterson79 |

We booked here for our first meal in Philly. The minute you walked in the ambience is warm and inviting. They have monthly 5 course set dinner menus. Our waiter Andrew was attentive and delightful. Every course was absolutely delicious. I won't go into detail as a new menu will be on offer tomorrow (Sept 1st). We'll be back again. Thank you very much for a wonderful evening.

Highly Charming and Extremely Tasteful Farm to Table Restaurant

By RPMPhilly |

Allow me to clarify first what Talula's Daily is not as I have seen several reviewers mistakenly mentioning another place. Talula's Daily is a dining room up four to five stairs in the historic Ayer Building on Washington Square, formerly the nation's first advertising company and now an upscale condo building in the upper floors. Talula's Daily is not to be confused with Talula's Garden (indoor and outdoor seating), located on the southern side of the Ayer Building. Also, Talula's Daily, the restaurant, is not the same as the market located in the same space. My review is about the wonderful restaurant that brings a monthly five course menu to the fore with creative exploits that almost always indulge my cheese cravings and sweet tooth for dessert with a nice, light, not to filling portion. The support staff there, led by Nicole, have been terrific and I've been going there with several friends on a monthly basis now for almost five years. A group of four of us have joined the Super Secret Supper Club, which is not so much a secret club. Rather, it's the moniker for all that come to enjoy the amazing selection of wines that couple with a fantastic kitchen team. The fixed price menu is flexible and staff make adjustments for allergies and dislikes by customers. We love the place and the four of us that go each month because we get to try new foods every time and it's a safe place to take risks. This past month was a Spanish theme. One month recently was Southern cooking. Another month it was Italian. Things keep moving around with inspirations from around the globe. Give it a try for something different. You'll see immense creativity on the five plates (over the 5 courses).

Market is more than a great take out place

By Firefly722 |

Four of us had the prix fix menu and enjoyed our portions, which were more than ample, very much. I have read reviews on the take out nature of this eating establishment but everything about our meal was great. The decor, the ambience, even the location. But I need to write about our experience with the staff. One of our orders was not recorded correctly. The food that came to our table for one of us was not what was ordered. Not only did the server apologize, but our correct order came quickly with no arguments or suggestions from the wait staff. The restaurant proprietor came over to make sure we were happy and the meals was excellent. I have been in this situation before and everyone gets a bit testy or uncomfortable but the staff at Talula's was spot on. To date, it was the best meal I had in Philadelphia. And yes, the coffee was superb. I will go back (and I do not live in Philadelphia) next time in town.

Daughter's wedding at the Morris House Hotel

By mmeehan525 |

they went out of there way to put a good size veggie tray for my the prep time before my daughter's wedding. Great service, great effort and it was very good

Wonderful fresh menu!

By Lori K |

We were touring the city with some family members from out of town. We stopped by for lunch and were pleasantly surprised with the fresh options available to us. Meals can be ordered to go or to eat there, either inside or out. You can choose from sandwiches and salads already made or order from the menu at one of the two counters. There were so many delicious options to choose from. I chose a wonderful chicken salad sandwich with grapes and the others from our group had a wide assortment of salads and other sandwiches. We were all very pleased with our selections. Seating can get be a bit difficult if you hit the height of the lunchtime rush with a large party, as we did. With patience, we were able to join some other very friendly diners at one of the larger tables inside. From what I understand, the menus changes frequently to reflect the season since everything is made fresh. Drinks options include wine, beer, coffee and other assorted bottled beverages. There are also plenty of tasty dessert options if you saved room for them. The cafe has a wonderful easy going feel to it. It's definitely one of the city's best cafes.

Wonderful and comfortable dining experience and a great value

By Chicagosouth |

Very simple and homey dining room. Very much like having dinner at a good friend's home. I love the prix fixe menu. Cleverly done with nice balance of flavors, colors, and presentation. Definitely get the extra course if offered as others have said. Very imaginative wine pairing which in my evening included some wonderful French country cider that matched the cheese course beautifully. Reasonably priced wine pairing and just like being at a friends house, they will top off your glass if you run out before your course is done. I thought this was a great value for the money at least compared to restaurants in this class of food. Well done.

Decent quick bites for breakfast

By PetrousApex |

Dropped in here to grab some breakfast. They have a few pastries and breakfast sandwich-type items. The veggie frittata was good. Very cute decor inside. Not a ton of food options but good for a quick bite!

Favorite lunch or brunch spot!

By Kate M |

There's always something wonderful to eat - whether a quick sandwich or salad or a hot seasonal soup. The daily specials really are special, or you can grab some nice cheese to take home, or a housemade cookie to have with coffee at your desk. It's my favorite place to take friends and family after a visit to Independence Hall.

Now this place is clever and good

By ESJT |

A small eat in/take out restaurant. Situated right next to Talula's Garden. Excellent food and made fresh, and eclectic selections. Reasonably priced with great staff people. It's new (6 months or so) to our neighborhood, but up to speed. A good lunch choice or for whatever you might need.

Overpriced

By Emma S |

$100 for a salad, 3 drinks, and a pasta dish (dinner portion) the size of a lemon. Awful. Wonderful atmosphere, but not worth the price. Service was slow as well.

Breakfast/lunch/dinner

By CecilieMy |

The place is opened for breakfast but does not many breakfast dishes more like coffee and pastries. One place with two restaurants inside a little bit confused for the customers. Have to pay two different places. Had early lunch, the food is okay, portion small and very expensive. Cozy and clean place. Has individual tables and commuting table too.

Best lunch spot ever, (but bring money!)

By Notjustanyhotel |

OMG. I should just eat lunch here every day. Just a block from my office and across the street from Washington Square park--for excellent picnicking. BEST creative salads, the pork sandwich is fabulous, innovative grilled cheese selections almost every day, interesting salads, and a nice selection of sodas, pastries, desserts. Eat in at communal tables or take out. The only thing I've ever been disappointed in is the soups.... not as flavorful for some reason. WHY??? Everything else is So great. Highly recommend! I eat lunch from here almost once every week.

Stale croissants

By JerseyBusiness |

Sunday brunch at this well-regarded place. The stale chocolate croissants must have been pre-frozen and were certainly not fresh. They should be enjoined from calling them croissants as to do so insults French bakers.

Want to go back!

By Otdeb |

We stopped for some coffee and tea while walking in the area. The food selections look good and large portions. There is a very nice cheese case with unique cheeses. Comfortable tables with a neighborhood feel.

Food descriptions beat the actual delivery

By Barbara E |

Had the $55 price fixed menu for dinner last week. The menu items sounded ridiculously fantastic. The actual eating a bit below the extremely high expectations created by the descriptions. Service and presentation is excellent. The squash soup was very good for sure, but with 5 courses the soup portion could have been cut in half. The beet salad was also very good and perfectly presented, although I can't say that we could taste everything in the description. Still, really good. The main course was good. The duck on my plate was very very small and should have been double. The size was 1.5 female fingers. But it was perfectly cooked and moist. The pierogies were good as was the cabbage, but not stellar. Through the whole meal I was looking forward to the pumpkin donuts for dessert. When they arrived I think I actually laughed...the 2 donuts were each slightly smaller than a donut hole with a dot of pumpkin beside them. Too little food at dessert to matter one way or the other! We chose the accompanying wine fixed price menu which was very good, and we split one $35 wine order. Since we aren't big drinkers, we were satisfied with that. The restaurant decor was great with a country kitchen feel, and we could hear each other talk. The dinner was very enjoyable and we were glad we tried the restaurant, but with the big bill I think we could have done better.

Excellent Coffee

By Jon N |

A pleasant experience with a good choice of food. The cranberry scones were very good. Coffee was excellent. You can also watch the staff preparing food for the shop and café. There is a deli counter which stocks some excellent cheeses.

Great for any time of day

By Alice H |

this is the perfect place for a cup of coffee/tea in the morning with a friend or a business meeting for 2 or 3 or a great salad or sandwich for lunch or an afternoon re-charge...near my work and we go over at all hours. Staff is lovely and I love the china they serve their drinks in for dining "in" all from the store Anthropologie. Usually some good samples too!

Loved the Secret Supper Club!

By Amanda B |

We booked the Secret Supper Club dinner prior to a show at the Walnut Street Theatre. I absolutely loved it! The place is very casual, but the food is definitely fine dining. Each individual course was beautifully plated and delicious, we particularly enjoyed the fried egg (a soft boiled egg, deep fried with a slightly crunching coating), and the rhubarb & raspberry crumble, but honestly everything was delicious. The $55 price tag was fair considering the quality and quantity of food that was served, but we ended up paying close to $200 (for two of us) with a couple of drinks, tax, and tips. If we had opted for the recommended wine pairing ($35), it would have been more. So, not a cheap night out, but definitely something to put on the list when you are looking for something a little different and special. It's definitely on my list for my next out-of-town visitors. I would not hesitate to recommend Talula's Daily Secret Supper Club to anyone looking for a welcoming and casual environment with top-notch food!

Great coffee and pastries on a cold, rainy day

By nylady21 |

We stopped in to get warm and were delighted with the hot coffee drinks and the scones. There are quite a few tables so we lingered over our drinks and really enjoyed the atmosphere. The deli cases and shelves are stocked with lots of takeout items and specialty foods which were very tempting.

Go for the scones!!!

By NVP102 |

To be honest, I don't know how helpful this review will be, as my husband and I only ran in to buy scones on a Saturday morning. We did not eat in...took them to go. However, they were the best scones ever. Worth the drive from New Jersey into Philly to get them. I make homemade scone which I thought were good, but the ones from Talula's are in a league all their own. Moist on the inside, a little crispy on the outside. Even the one called "Healthy Start" which was full of grains, nuts and cinnamon felt like a decadent treat. The lemon poppy seed and blueberry were fabulous as well. They kept fresh for a couple of days. Will definitely be going back so will provide a better review soon.

5 courses of delicious surprises

By Mike B |

From a tomato salad with crazy South American mushrooms to pork three ways of incredible everything to horchatta bread pudding and ending wth fresh donuts Every thing was spectacular and delicious surprises. 10 tables of awesome.

Good, but not great

By pyatachok |

We were intrigued by the raving reviews about this place. And loving Talula's Garden always were preferring her over the Cafe's supper club. But this time we did try this version of "Talula's dining", and now we know why we still would prefer going to the Garden. I can't say it was a bad experience, on the opposite, it was quite a good one, but unfortunately not comparable with the level of creativity and sophistication that their main restaurant is offering. And the ambiance is also a factor that leans towards the Garden. Though the service was equally good in both places. So for us the Garden wins over the Supper club, but we'd still recommend to try both for you to make your own conclusion.

Wonderful dinner!

By Brad R |

Wonderful place! I had the salmon with a side of marinated cucumbers and it was delicious! My server was Marisa and she was attentive and friendly- this is a great place to get a delicious meal!

Dinner's great, too

By Tovaleh |

Next door to big sister's Talula's Garden, this is part coffee shop, part real restaurant. Dinner is as delicious as it is simple: one set menu per month, 5 courses for $55. As long as you're not allergic to whatever is on that month's menu, you'll be happy. Carefully designed and cooked, the dinner provides just the right amount of 4 different dishes plus a cheese course ( a set of wine pairings is an extra $35). Each course was a bit unusual and a lot delicious. Service is solicitous, décor is rustic, chairs are hard- our only quibble.

Good food and fresh air.

By Wendy G |

Talula's is the perfect take out place. They a wide variety of lunch foods to take away. There are a few tables outside. You can also go across the street to Washington Square andbenjoy watching the people, dogs and squirrels.

An Interesting Place for a Quick Lunch

By Harvey S |

After checking into the Morris House Hotel, just around the corner, we asked the desk attendant for a recommendation for lunch. She sent us to Talula's Daily. It is a lively place in an old building. There was a large variety of sandwiches, salads, soups, coffee, baked goods, etc. Much of it is locally sourced, but we did find some very good Wisconsin cheese! Prices were reasonable. Seating is limited. It was very good!

Excellent Food and Service

By MikeDorsey |

Five course fixed price menu. No choices. Same menu for a month (I think). Look to be sure you like what is on offer. Everything we had was excellent, well-prepared and inventive. Wine pairing available. Good wine and beer selections. No spirits.

Amazing!

By Michigal28 |

The food was interesting and delicious. The only weird quirk was they overcooked all the bread toasts that were served with dips, cheese etc.-- like inedible they were so burnt or so hard you could not bite them- all it did was lower my carb intake because who needs bread when the toppings were so divine!

I love this spot!

By AmberB460 |

Great take away or sit in food. Fun & Yummy sweet and great coffee! If your looking for more of a sit down meal go next door to Talula's Garden

Unextpected Pleasure

I rarely feel completely confident giving 5 stars. Our meal was exceptional from start to finish. We've experienced Talula's Table (very difficult reservation) a few times, and felt that this was just as good. The food was creative and delicious. No misses on the night we dined there, and the portions were generous. The main course was lobster, and all courses appealed to upscale tastes (salad with duck was ample and awesome). I suppose if you are a very picky eater, you may not like the set courses. If not, you will likely have a great experience. Service was the best I've had. Price was perfectly fair for the experience. Will return, soon I hope.

Outstanding

We had dinner at the chefs table -the menu was terrific - liked everything served - since this was a business meal - I was concerned about not having a choice - I checked with everyone to make sure there were no allergies. We had a fantastic time. I will definitely go back again

Great for a casual brunch with friends

By ChampagneKissez |

Small place, big taste! First come first serve, communal seating, be nice and share your table or move along when you're through! It isn't sit down service. Great idea for a revolving door dining room! Order delightful treats and creat your own plate from walk up deli style counters. Food is warmed to and delivered to you. Daily selctions, always changing. I enjoyed a makes mushroom mac&cheese, with a side of sautéed brocolli rabe and broccoli salad. The cafe is adorable and has baked yummies (like ultimate zucchini bread with candied walnuts) to accompany your lattes or draft kombucha. Remember just because you don't have a table waiter, doesn't mean you can't drop a couple dollars in the tip jar for them. The counter staff and food runners works hard to keep a clean dining room and also makes sure you get hot food hot and cold food cold. An enjoyable meal and great venue!

Talula's is Terrific!

By LancasterTraveler |

Billed as a market, sandwich/soup/salad/bakery restaurant this is a perfect place right off convenient and central Washington Square to have breakfast or lunch. Don't confuse it with Talula's Garden which is right next door and its dinner big brother. We had lunch at Talula's Daily recently and loved it. We arrived about 11:45 and by 12:15 it was packed so get there early to have a seat. We enjoyed their Chicken Noodle soup and it was excellent. They have plentiful choices of salads, sandwiches, soups and deserts and cookies to go. Some of their heavier offerings can be heated (I had a Chicken with honey mustard heated that was awesome. We enjoyed their coffee and topped off lunch with a wonderful, yummy chocolate chip cookie. Try Talula's Daily for lunch or breakfast and you too will say it is Terrific! I recommend this market restaurant to you.

Very nice spot for lunch, a snack or a hot drink

By Hampsteader |

This unusual cafe, bakery, coffee house, and cheesemonger shop -- situated on the west side of Washington Square, adjacent to Talula's Garden restaurant -- is a great place to stop for a light meal, a pastry or a coffee. You can eat there, at communal tables, or take away. The food is top notch, the atmosphere is good and the prices are no higher than the dreary chains that dominate most corners. It's a great spot to chat and eat.

Great for those who love farm to table deliciousness

By Tdiddynyc |

This is one of our favorite breakfast or lunch spots in Philadelphia. The daily quiche are delicious and unique. It is also affordable. We like to sit at one of the outside tables with our dog.

Delightful Surprise

By Beachgalxo |

Arrived early so we dropped in at Talula's Garden beforehand for a drink at the bar. We then walked one minute to Talula's Daily for their prix fixed menu and drink pairing. We were not disappointed! The food was very good and the waiter was attentive, informative and knowledgeable. We thought each dish was excellent and the root beer float at the end was a throwback and very much enjoyed by both of us!

Superb food in a casual modern atmosphere.

By Judy N |

Great place to grab a quick bite mid day. They have great coffee, salads, sandwiches and daily entrees including a mac and cheese or lasagna if your needing some comfort. the location is mid Washington Square so in center city, you are never far away. They also have an evening prix fix meal that changes monthly.

Tremendous dinner at Talula's

By John W |

I was in Philadelphia for a conference and treated some colleagues to dinner at Talula's Daily the last night in July. And thank goodness I did. The menu changed the next night! Now you can go to the website and see the menu for July firsthand, but let me just praise the cannelloni with the delicious veal confit and the cheese course. Every course was excellent, but these stood out for me. Arrange to go there soon!

Had to try the "sister" business

By mimiko |

We dined at Talula's Garden and had lunch the next day at Daily. It's a charming place with a full coffee bar, carry out items, and a place to order food and eat in. If you check on it in Yelp, you can download a coupon for a free cookie! The food was very good.

Great meal, great service

By Ian D |

Not often am I compelled to give a great rating, but my visit to Talulas Daily was awesome. A set 5 course Prix fixe dinner was extremely well executed and the service was friendly and attentive. As someone mentioned, if you're a picky eater, the set courses might not be for you, but I was impressed with the overall menu choices. I'd certainly return for another adventure when the menu changes next.

Very much enjoyed our dinner

By Heather S |

All 8 of us enjoyed our dinner. The space is very cool--rustic but refined. We sat right near the kitchen which is always fun for us and our service was very good. We did the beverage pairing which was great. Before dinner, we had a few drinks and the tempranillo rose wine was excellent, as was the hard cider. All of the courses were tasty...we were all raving about the chicken (some weren't so fond of the rhubarb) and how perfectly it was cooked. The chard with it was delicious. The mint chocolate chip sundae was to die for. We would definitely recommend it and would return ourselves.

At 7 o'clock in the evening Talula's Daily changes from a coffee shop/salad/sandwich bistro to a full restaurant. They are limited by size – 20 to 30 seats. There's a fixed menu for the month of five courses. April was particularly enticing. It started with risotto croquettes followed by asparagus soup with a small piece of salmon. The highlight was spring lamb three ways. The next course of baked brie consisted of three different types with a deconstructed pastry. Dessert was cream cake ice cream which we ate and carrot cake which we ate the next day at home. There is an open kitchen where you can see everything happening. It is truly cooked to order. The wine pairings were matched to the food much better than I could. We shall become monthly regulars as we have been nearly daily regulars for their coffee and goodies.

Exceptional!! Refreshing!!

By Adamsafe |

Outstanding business meal here. The food is creative, flavorful, and very well presented. You get the feeling you are eating healthy food, and I suspect you indeed are. I felt none of the side effects typical of eating out at a high end restaurant (let alone for a five-course meal) -- not over-stuffed, no headache, good night's sleep, etc. What a joy! The greens, veggies, salads are all so refreshing...almost like they still had the morning dew on them (sounds cheesy huh, but that's what I thought of while eating the crudites and salad). Portions are perfect. Good wine pairings, well chosen beer list. And very reasonably priced to boot!

Great find in Washington Square!

By Yellby |

We tried Telula's Daily last night, having no idea what to expect. It was phenomenal. The pre set menu was delicious, every last choice from the chef. The atmosphere was fun and intimate. And we loved how we were able to purchase items from the shelves that peaked our interest, like the pb&jams made locally in West Philly. Telula's Daily is a "must try"!!

Love this place

By Khondker_Islam |

It was a wonderful evening when the ACP Pre course was over. I was walking around the Constitution hall to get a glimpse of the past history of USA. Lot of visitors gathered around the hall busy taking selfies. Before returning to my hotel room , I decided to have my dinner nearby. This restaurant was very close. I did not make the reservation. But I was given a table to dine. The interior decoration was very simple. The chef Anthony Colontonio and pastry chef Vita Shoaff had created a prefixed 5 courses of a perfect meal that surprised me with presentation and taste. The waitress was very polite and friendly. She explained the components of each dish with enthusiasm. The service was well paced. The first course was wild ramp and potato soup prepared with Comte fondue, sour cream and onion crisps. It was smooth and tasty. The second course was a grilled asparagus salad. It had 63 degree egg, truffle vinaigrette and lettuces. It was sprinkled with puffed rice. It was creamy with a perfectly poached egg and was colorful. It was very refreshing. The 3rd course came with Mediterranean Sea bass prepared with spring peas, fingering potatoes with garlic cream. It was garnished with tips of pea plant. The skin of the fish was crispy and was perfectly seasoned. It was one of the best piece of fish I ever had. Then came the lavender scented goat cheese . It had fennel crackers and Rhubarb syrup. It cleansed my palate. Vita’s carrot made the grand finale. It was a piece of art. It was made with cream cheese icing and Candied walnut praline. Needless to say, it was the best dinner I had in the Philadelphia. If you like to have a great meal with great presentation and satisfaction, this is the right place. Definitely, “ I will be back “.

Supper Club is very romantic

By Victoria P |

We celebrated our 28th wedding anniversary while in town for our daughter's college graduation. It was our first time to the supper club and we had a lovely time. The food was outstanding and they accommodated my gluten free husband without missing a beat. He so enjoyed the fresh GF bread and the risotto instead of pasta. But oh, the fresh pasta was amazing and even better was the wine pairing with it. Truly inspirational. Service was sincere and warm. The best part, aside from the food, was the atmosphere. It was very romantic, a perfect place for a near perfect dinner.

Good Breakfast in Walking Distance of Hotel Monaco

My wife’s birthday warranted a special dinner and we both agreed that the Secret Supper Club at Talulas Daily is our favorite. Each month’s menu is a fixed five course dinner at a fixed price. Before our first visit we would see something on the menu that concerned us. Once we started as regulars, we found that even unusual things were excellent. I learned to try a lot of different foods here. There are generally no substitutions but if you have a food allergy or intolerance, notify them at the time of the reservation. April’s menu included duck prosciutto-not something found on every menu. It was delicious The main course was Talulus chicken and biscuits. Large and delicious. My wife chose this as her take-home course and we enjoyed it together the following day. It is a very good setting with an open kitchen. Kyle is usually there as the accomplished chef. The waiters are experienced, attentive and excellent. The menu may seem intimidating and not everything is at the top of your first choice list. Try it and you will like it.

Great surprise!

By Brettb16 |

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed talulas. It's on a really beautiful block with great outdoor seating. I got a breakfast sandwich that I really loved! Id go back often if I lived closer. It was egg and cheese and everything about it was great! Friendly and helpful staff. They really know there products!

August menu 2015

By camcc |

We chose to come for the 5 course menu and We were so delighted with our meal and experience at Talula's. Our server Tavis, was extremely helpful, and added to the enjoyment of our meal. Each course was interesting and was delicious and we would highly recommend this dinner to our friends. The ingredients were fresh and well prepared. We will definitely return.

More like a 4.5

By wandaMPa |

Food here is great, both the dinner and the take out. It is fresh -- way, way fresher salads than Whole Foods! And tastier as well. The cheese is to die for and Seth is the greatest. What he doesn't know about cheese is not worth knowing. The dinner ($50 price fix menu) that we had with friends was terrific. Almost too much good food. I ate the meatballs and stone fruit cobbler for two days afterward. YUM! The staff is friendly and efficient, as is the wait service. I deducted a point because I have two gripes. One, come on guys, a tip jar?? For checking me out? Isn't that your job? Besides at prices like these, it is bush league. Second, one is a bit uncertain as to the "rules" of where to sit, what is what and so forth. Maybe that's the point, but it gave me a bit of a start the first time I walked in. The concept is great, but needs an introduction to new customers. I sure hope this succeeds. The Washington Square area needs a great venue for gourmet shopping and eating, besides the busy Talulah's Table.

Coffee & Sweet Treats

By pookala |

A perfect off the beaten path spot if you're searching for a nice local place to take a break from sightseeing. On the western side of Washington Square, this is conveniently located and provides quality coffee and delicious sweets. Two entusiastic thumbs up for the apple crumb cake & the espresso bundt cake with chocolate chips. All this yumminess plus a cordial & professional staff. Can't wait to go back for dinner.

Tasty lunch on the park!

By Joyce R |

Talula's Daily was a terrific lunch stop. I selected a pre-made salad and was delighted when they offered to toss it for me and delivered it to my table on a plate. It was delicious, reasonable priced and I had a great view of the Washington Square. All in all a very nice lunch experience.

Secret Super Club

By MomTaxiDriver |

Amazing dinner Saturday night. Learned of the Supper Club via Open Table. They do take credit cards and serve wine and beer. We did learn they would allow you to BYOB, could have saved us some $.

Awesome June menu!

By oi_travels |

We went to check out their June dinner menu. It was so good! Veal, pasta carbonara, cannoli - all prepared so well! Service was great too! We've been to this place many times and it never disappoints.

Talula´s great breakfast

Great Breakfast. Excelent service. We had breakfast with kids and they manage to provide food to attend all of them. including sandwuiches to be adapted to serve us bettr. Place is friendly.

Better Early than Never

By Herstory_62 |

There aren't many, so if you want a table at Talula's Daily, it's a good idea to get there before noon - or you can take out & eat on a bench across the street in lovely Washington Square Park. With a healthy sophisticated menu, including ready made salads, such as red AND white beets w/ feta & candied walnluts, bulging sandwiches on hearty bread, homemade soups, assorted cheese plates & interesting bottled drinks, it's one of the best casual boites in the neighborhood.

Just Yum!!

By philadelphiaMax |

A great little spot to enjoy breakfast or grab a pre made sandwich or salad for work. Everything is delicious! After work I would run into grab soup on a cold winter day!! Tallies' Daily is for everyone, family, solo, couples.....

Cute and Friendly

By Kate G |

I work nearby so sometimes I grab something here. The food is good, but VERY pricey!! Their sweets are worth it though. They have the best Vanilla Bean Panna Cotta ever! Also have meat and cheese samples out daily and complimentary ice water. Different specials daily. I've never had it, but I hear their grilled cheese is amazing...must be because its usually sold out by noon! Overall, nice place to treat yourself to lunch once in a while.

Local food, good winelist and unique setting

By jms_got_here_too_lat |

Entrance not obvious, but do go in - the food is first-rate! I also rather like the entrance way, as they decorate in a rustic garden style that I like.

Generally excellent, entry course disappointed.

By Andyblue61 |

Frequent visitor to always excellent spot. This time everything was great except for salmon entree. This was slightly over cooked and not as flavorful.

Great cafe

By Berlinerinexile |

Stopped in here for coffee and a croissant the morning after a great dinner at Talula's Garden. The croissant was one of the best I've ever had stateside. I really enjoyed the ambiance, especially the communal table. After my coffee, I explored the small grocery. When I inquired about the flavor of an item, it was opened and I was offered a taste. Excellent customer service.

Good quality food in a relaxed ambiance

By navins888 |

Great choice for quick, very affordable, yet tasty food in an informal and comfortable setting. Service is friendly and quick. The steel-cut oatmeal with cranberries and other fall ingredients was delicious and quite substantial. The quiches slices are large with just the appropriate amount of ingredients. Wife had the turkey quiche and I've had the vegetarian quiche - both well worth trying again.

An awesome meal in a great setting

We enjoyed a wonderful secret supper at Talula's. The food from beginning to end was first class. Our waiter was attentive and saw to our every need. The price was reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. We will definitely return!

Go Hungry

By Rick S |

Talula's Daily is a market and cafe during the day and a restaurant in the evening. I'm writing about the five course, prix fixe dinner that is offered nightly. First, go hungry as a lot of food is served. Second, everything is delicious. We had savory apple beignets, scallops, short ribs, a cheese course, and a chocolate tasting. One set menu, which changes monthly, is offered. You can check out the menu in advance to see if it seems like food you will enjoy. If so, I recommend a visit to Talula's Daily.

Prix Fixe Supper Menu Was Worth It

By Patricia A |

The day menu and baked offerings looked wonderful, but we were there in the evening. They slipped us into a table at 5:30 and we were amazed. It was the June menu--check it out on their website. The flavors were amazing, loved Hemingway's mother's cucumber soup, and the chicken ala king & gnocchi. The staff was professional and friendly. Well worth the spur of the moment visit.

tatula's garden of horror

extremely poor service and horror treatment, reserved for barbarians.stopped in for afternoon drinks and snacks pushed to end of line when white patrons came in after me.

Fabulous!

By Michelle M |

Fixed menu restaurants usually do not work for us as we do not eat meat or shellfish but, miraculously, the entire May menu meets our needs. The food was fabulous. We usually do not order as much food as was provided but, we enjoyed every course. Everything was light and the salmon (I eat A LOT of salmon) was perfectly prepared. Service was very friendly and accommodating. Our server also let us know that Talula's Daily will meet our dietary needs anytime if given 24 hour notice so, we will be back!

A great find for breakfast

By LikeItActive |

Skip the restaurant at the Hotel Monaco and take a short walk to Talula's Daily for great coffee, frittatas, and breads/pastries for breakfast

Outstanding dinner at the Secret Supper Club!

By nylady21 |

The prix fixe menu changes monthly and is a well curated set of courses. Get the add-on course and share with the table. Ours was duck prosciutto and pears and was fabulous! The Greek Salad, and Chèvre and shortbread courses were delightful. The main course of Catalan Shrimp and Scallops were perfectly prepared and delicious. Cocktails and dessert were great too We left with meringues to take home. I'm looking forward to returning often.

Perfect for light lunch

By VacaAllie |

We stopped here for a late light lunch and it was the perfect answer. There is a wide choice of salads which you can combine or quick salads to go already packaged. The cucumber salad and the soba noodle salads were both very good. Service was very fasr and accommodating. Great place to stop for lunch on Washington square.

Great find

This quirky little eatery is fantastic. We found it by accident and were pleasantly surprised. The food is well prepared, fresh and tasty. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Well worth a visit.

5 Course Delight!

By boncakes |

This is, by far, the best price fixe meal I have ever had! It is well worth the price of $55 and I would go back in a heartbeat. Surroundings are lovely, service was exceptional, and the food, ah, the food, was superb. From our crostini bites to the buttered focaccia, to the crispy veal piccata, to the cheese course, and the dessert, pistachio cannolis, I couldn't have asked for anything better. You don't really need a special occasion to go there because the meal is priced so well. We did not have the wine pairing, but we did order glasses of wine (the only thing a little pricey). I loved every minute of my experience and suggest you go a.s.a.p.!

limited but tasty

By murat p |

we had a family dinner at talulas daily. the menu was fixed, so it is like 'what's for dinner tonight'. I think the menu design was in good harmony. although we did not have unlimited choices, wine is not fixed and everyone of us could find something for their taste for the very same menu. the dinner was expertly cooked, the service was cool, and ambiance was warm. we went back home thinking that we would visit again.

Very Bad hygene standards

By RaiDoc |

We could not get past the fact that as we were lining up to order there were flies landing on the exposed pastries and quiches. We let the girl taking the orders behind the counter know and her response: "yes I made the mistake to leave the door open". No word of covering the food or throwing it in the garbage. when pressed politely she just smiled and said...I'll bring it to the managment attention. Really!? Standards and training needed desperately. Shame as the place has real potential but not with fly tainted food.

Great Easter Sunday Dinner

By Moe T |

This was an excellent dining experience for our family. Very reasonably priced five course meal for $55.00. The seating area was very laid back and friendly for our large group of 12. Nicole our waitress was very personable and attentive to our first time group. The food was fresh and delicious. We dined on the potato leak soup, Amish Chicken and biscuits, house cured duck prosciutto to name a few. This is definitely a place to visit again.

Don't miss this place!

By RPeeden |

There are two parts to Talula's - a fantastic outside patio/café and an inside kitchen café referred to as Talula's Daily. This is where we took a group of 12 after a day of conference meetings. There are not enough stars to sufficiently rate the service we received and the food was DELICIOUS. Dishes on the menu that night were not your 'run of the mill' items and the Chef's preparation was one of the best I've had. The neighborhood Talula's is located in includes cobblestone streets, historic buildings and a green park - so you can walk after your meal. Don't miss this!

5 course prix fixe $55

By cbdentst |

Yum! We'd been eyeing the monthly menus enviously but somehow just hadn't gotten there. We are regulars at the daily market as we live in the neighborhood. I love the concept of 1 set menu for everyone. So efficient. Makes sense that you can dine better for less that way. We had no idea what to expect. By all accounts, our experience exceeded our expectations. The meal was delicious and plentiful. The service and ambience very cool. Vernick who? Can't wait to return!.

Grab-and-go. Sit and savor. Yummy choice either way.

By Glenn A |

Their Havana Latte woke up my latte-weary taste buds. We got there late, so I missed out on a breakfast sandwich, but my ham frittata and small wedge of Jewish apple cake hit many spots. My wife quite enjoyed her veg frittata and zucchini bread. Everything we've had has been very tasty and well prepared. Several servers have a bit of an attitude, with some notably friendly exceptions.

Talulas Daily is a local "go to "place for coffee, tea and delicious hot chocolate. It also offers the Secret Supper Club. They offer a fixed price five course meal every day of the week after 7 o'clock. The menu is set for the month and changes entirely on the first of the month.each course is prepared individually. The entire room is open to view the kitchen and to be viewed by the chefs. If someone is dawdling in savoring every mouthful (as I tend to do) then the chef can alter the rate of his preparation. It is a much more relaxed setting then Talula's Garden next door.I might not always choose every course but I have always been happy when I did taste the final product. One outstanding delight on the May menu was the rockfish on a bed of spring peas and pasta. It was heavy on the peas and lighter on the pasta, so it was not a heavy dish. They offer a wine pairing for an additional charge which I tend to choose because they're better at matching the flavors.we had a group of 11 and therefore had the large table. There were two dietary intolerances which were easily compensated by the chef. About half of the group had the wine pairing. There was consistent praise from every diner. The menus for June and July have been posted and I plan to attend both of them. It's known as the Secret Supper Club and I'm almost sorry to give a rave review with the fear that I may not be able to get a reservation in the future. Both the Garden and the Daily are Aimee Olexys creations and deserve every word of praise.
