Three cheers for the revolution

By Carl Z |

We dined with friends from our Viking World Cruise 2019. As you walk into the space it is engaging and attractive. Atmosphere was really nice. The wait staff, especially Heaven our server, were all very accommodating and pleasant. Then of course the food was really special. I had an amazing Sea Bass and enjoyed it immensely. The ribs were really tasty and our desserts were worth the over eat. It is a bit expensive but I thought worth the overall experience and hope you give Independence a try. The Hall is close to this location.

Can't wait to come back

By Rae Gardner |

We had a family dinner celebrating a graduation. We had reservations but had to wait for our table, although I attributed this to being a large party. Once we sat down however, it was a phenomenal evening. The service was excellent. Our server Tammy was extremely knowledgable, and patient and accommodating with a family member with particular eating habits. There was an issue in the kitchen that delayed our entrees but the inconvenience was more than made up for with sincere apologies and generously comped sides and desserts. Everyone in our party of 8 raved about their food. My husband commented that he never thought cabbage could taste so delicious! Our only regret is that we don't live in the area but we can't wait to come back and eat here again.

Excellent dinner

By Lynn M |

Really nice evening. Sat outside for an early dinner. Service was great. Food was excellent. Only cons: parking can be difficult. Everyone enjoyed it very much.

Dinner with friends

By Vacation541188 |

Definitely a restaurant for adults. The food was delicious. The bread might have been the best part, and I don’t usually eat bread. All 3 of us ordered Caesar Kale salad, we could have split 2 between us and still had some left over. I ordered chicken & dumplings, it was really good but nothing special. Other diner had the duck and said it was good and other had a shrimp dish said it was good. Also ordered a side of Brussels sprouts, hardly touched them because we were so full. Fun cocktail menu.

Amazing!

By MonicaMonica |

The highlight of our Philly trip! Every single thing about my dinner was amazing! My friend and I shared the Cheddar Chive Biscuits ($8). The honey-pepper butter was perfection. We also shared the Master Class Cheese Board ($25) which was delicious. We each got a bowl of the Mushroom Soup ($15 per bowl). I had a Froze ($15) to drink- also delicious. We were stuffed, but couldn’t pass on dessert. I had the Banana-Rum Blondie ($13) and it was heaven. Our waiter Connor was superb. Talula’s Garden is expensive, but worth it.

Excellent Brunch!

By AHRESQ |

Had an amazing brunch at this eclectic spot here over the weekend. Service was friendly and professional, and the food was excellent (but not cheap). The peach pancakes topped with grilled peaches and homemade whipped cream were sublime, and the crab benedict was delicious too. The beets with ricotta cheese and fresh herbs were out of this world. They also accommodated my nut allergy by leaving the nuts out of dishes. We would definitely go back.

Good food, great atmosphere

By elawson |

Great spot for a slightly more expensive dinner. Good vibe, great servers. Interesting cocktails along with the usual offerings. The dinner choices are a little more exotic but you can find something safe if you're a picky eater. It was a first time visit for 3 out of 4 of us and we all agreed that we'd come again.

LOUD!

By MarvinAnchorage |

The food was high quality and the fall menu imaginative! Great service as well. The reason for the low rating is the noise level. It is deafening inside the main dining area! Table are very close, room acoustics are such that sound really carries, and overly loud music adds to the din. A very loud party of five was seated next to us, and the excessive noise they made bothered us and other diners as well but management did nothing to stop them from disturbing the entire room. But - even after the noisy party left, the sound level in the restaurant was very high. They need to turn down the music and add some acoustical features to dampen the sound.

Fresh, Delicious & Perfectly Located

By Mishon A |

Delicious meals at affordable prices. There was plenty of seats and a serene environment when we arrived for lunch. The personnel was warm and inviting, and the setting is sophisticated without being formal. The filled grape leaves, moussaka, and mucver were all delicious. It's the perfect place to pause between shopping and a concert because of its location between Lincoln Center and Columbus Circle. Overall, a wonderful dinner experience.

Great Environment with Proper Social Distancing Efforts

By Ashley N |

My husband and I chose to go to Talula's Garden for our first night out after the phased reopening during this pandemic. Talula's has exceeded all of our expectations. Not only were tables distanced well more than the required 6 feet, all staff made the sanitation and mask policies clear to guests as you enter the outdoor seating area. The seasonal menu was delicious, as always, and it was a great experience all around. Thank you!!!

Talulah's Garden with my cousin

By yostella |

We have not been to Talulah's Garden for some time. Talulah's Garden is still fabulous! The staff welcomed us so nicely. Our table was inside but with a bit of the outside so that was excellent. We enjoyed so many different dishes the cocktails were delicious. We enjoyed the Master Class Cheese tray. The cheddar chive biscuits were so delicious. The smashed and fried potatoes and the marinated cucumbers were also a favorite. Somehow after the shrimp and scallops and seared salmon entrees, we managed to share in a bit of the honey chamomile creme brulee. It was so delicious and so innovative. Tyler W and the rest of the staff were so much fun to work with. The three of us really enjoyed the staff. I highly recommend this restaurant. Save up so you can afford to really enjoy the many dishes! We walked to Talulah's Garden. They used to have valet parking, but I am no longer sure about that. There is parking nearby in the neighborhood though.

Amazing

By Alex M |

This spot is amazing, we really enjoyed it! I reccommend it, it was amazing night spent there with my family and friends!

Over priced - Underwhelmed Dinner

By Bob S |

Sorry but despite the very lovely atmosphere and good service, the food was just not worth the money. When you pay a premium for fine dining, you want the food to explode in your mouth. It just didn't. Don't get me wrong the food was good, but not worth all the money it cost. The best thing we ate was a mushroom risotto that was full of mushrooms. This was the one dish that was worth the money.

Another Stephen Star Gem

By Marv L |

Our second Stephen Star restaurant in two nights and not sure which is better, this one or The Love. Both outstanding food, great service. Would love to go back.

Food could be better, typically excellent Starr service

By J.J. K |

Typically excellent service for one of Starr’s twenty or so restaurant properties, and the food is creative and fresh but it all seemed heavily over-seasoned. This is their “farm to table-ish” restaurant and for the price ($391 for four of us) it would have been better to taste each dish’s ingredients (oysters “Rockefeller,” artichoke dip, duck confit, pork belly, Bronzino, ravioli) rather than salt and other spices. This shouldn’t be the type of restaurant driving beverage sales with sodium content. The location is nice, multi-layered with high ceilings with both indoor and outdoor seating open even in the winter, inside heated tents. Parking, like pretty much all Center City spots (this one on Washington Square) can be challenging without valet service, but there is street parking and several garages within walking distance. The layout and design keep the noise level down, even when full and bustling.

Foodies Dream

By JandJMiller |

If you love great innovative food that is presented beautifully then Talula’s Garden is the perfect place for you to dine. Our server Tim was accommodating from start to finish. Great cocktail menu, I would highly recommend The Happy Camper. Every dish was so flavorful and a work of art. My personal favorites were the Fig Pizza, Tuna Crudo, Seafood Risotto and the Pork Belly. The Brioche Bread Pudding was a great ending to this fabulous meal. The ambiance is very lovely.

One delicious vegan gluten-free option

By VeganMadeEasy |

Happy to find a vegan gluten-free option. The cauliflower dish was delicious! It’s a nice place to have a good meal. We went on a Monday night and it was packed, hence pretty loud. There is outside seating available that’s open during the winter. The out a transparent tent up with heaters. Looked nice!

A Great Find!

By Jacquie G |

What a wonderful neighbourhood gem. We went to for lunch and the whole experience from the food to the service to the ambience was amazing.

A stand-out

By KKeelty57 |

We dined outdoors on the open-air patio in September of this year, and experienced a very high level of service. Our meal, starting with a selection of cheeses (there are several options), was delicious from beginning to end. Every detail was prioritized and I recall this as being one of the standout meals we've had in 2019! I am a vegetarian and had no trouble finding something delicious to eat. We don't live in Philly, but should we return in the future Talula's will be at the top of our "must-do" list. Delicious.

Great food and atmosphere

By TravelersfromCT |

Great food and ambiance. Service very good. Ate outside in beautiful lit garden. Moderate price point for the food. Drinks small and a bit pricey. Overall lovely evening.

One of Philly’s best

By DavidK1957 |

Talula’s Garden is one of the best restaurants in the City. Delicious farm to table cuisine, beautiful interior and great service. I have been there many times over the past few years and it never disappoints. My wife and I dine extensively at center city restaurants and, unlike so many other restaurants, you always leave with a great meal feeling that you have gotten great value for your dollar.

Philadelphia Special

By barryshap2017 |

I've been to Philadelphia many times and have my favorites but I thought I'd try Talula's. It is my new favorite restaurant. I loved the decor and the service was perfect. Not only did the manager come over to check on me but to my surprise, the owner came over and we had a lovely chat. I later found out she's a celebrity in the Philadelphia food scene. Not only did I immediately change my reservation from an upcoming trip to Talula's, but I also changed a lunch reservation to go to her other restaurant The Love. I had the gnudi and the asparagus/burrata plate and a great chocolate dessert. Can't wait to go back.

Dinner was Balanced with price and quality of food

By Big Red of Boston |

What a beautiful building and decor. The menu was funky to read and when described by our server made more sense. To start, their brioche with honey and butter was so good; like having dessert first. We shared the Brussel sprout flatbread app and it was so delicious and not overly filling. The Sea Bass was incredible and its pairings were light and not heavy. Strip Steak was cooked and prepared well. We were comfortably satisfied. The total price with drinks balanced with the quality of food and quantity.

Wonderful Dining experience

By Martha S |

Delicious meal - attentive service - wonderful atmosphere - interesting menu...what more could you want! Definitely reserve ahead - you will be disappointed if you arrive and cannot get a table ! Would definitely dine here again if we are in Philly!

Great Place felt like home

By Julie C |

The staff are all friendly and the food was great! Thanks for a good evening. Our drink the bee keeper and the cucumber salad is a must try :)

Our favorite restaurant in Philly

By AnneCe70 |

Great restaurant in the Rittenhouse Square District. A whole part is outdoors; long patio between 2 buildings; nice tables, chic country house style decoration, mismatched heathered dishes ... charming! Delicious dishes; homemade cheese ravioli, pork dish with raised sauce and fresh peas, and fish with vegetables. Delicious

Great food, charming atmosphere, wonderful service.

By Richard J |

Food, drinks, and table service were extraordinary. I’m a gluten-free, vegan and they were so accommodating. My only slight ding would be to a couple of hosts at host stand who ignored us upon arrival. However, another host who greeted us was wonderful and set the tone for the rest of the evening. We quite enjoyed our experience.

Brunch was great, we all dined well

By GADawgGa |

We had brunch there and I had the Eggs Benedict that comes with asparagus. Never had it that way before, but it was excellent. Everyone enjoyed the experience. Service was tops.

Beautiful place

By Alina C |

Very beautiful romantic place! Nalini was our server. She is great! They serve complimentary bread. But I am on a gluten free diet so they even had a gluten free bread for me too. And our sever was bringing the bread twice for us since we were out in a city the whole day and our kids were soooo hungry. The cocktails selection is also great. I tried The Rule Breaker! Delicious. The food was great and unique too. Atmosphere is awesome. Fell in love with this place. Definitely coming back!

Philly dining experience

By Irene G |

Loved this restaurant. The menu is very interesting with great combinations of beautifully prepared and presented food. Two of us shared branzino with a tomato, fennel and caper confit, and the lamb bolognese with ricotta-basil cream. And the cheddar chive biscuits were sublime. Shared a French rose which went well with everything. Service was attentive, charming and came with great recommendations. Ate outdoors in a beautiful garden spot. Will return next time we are in Philly!

Best in the city?

By Piperman2 |

Spetacular dining experience met with top-notch staff. Innovative menu that has many appetizing choices in a very comfortable setting. Great location in the heart of the city and one of the best meals I've ever had in Philadelphia.

All 4 of us loved our meal, and 2 of them almost never do!!

By Michael B |

The food and the service were both fantastic. We sat outside because inside was a little too loud for my 87 yr old mother. The setting was beautiful. Usually my family complains about everything but everyone liked their meals here!! We had the cucumber salad as a starter and main courses were salmon, ravioli, and 2 shrimp&scallop entrees. Everything was fresh, tasty, and gone my the end of the meal.

Beautiful outdoor dining with lovely plants and flowers!

By Carolyn |

This restaurant was recommended by the front desk and the gentleman serving the wine during the free wine hour at our hotel. It had a lovely unique outdoor seating area with plants and comfortable tables. Most tables had shade which was important on this over 85 degree weekend in July. The inside seating was air conditioned. We opted for outdoor seating and each of our party of 5 enjoyed our meals. The favorite dishes at our table included the Roasted Chicken and Gnocchi and the Handmade Ravioli. The manager checked in with us and gave us directions and recommendations for our stay. A friendly, fun and knowledgeable man to speak with. Very expensive meal with large serving sizes provided us some leftovers to take to our hotel fridge for lunch the next day. We were too full for dessert but were given at no charge some carrot cake miniature bites which were amazing and carrot cake is my favorite!!! Lovely fine dining option for those who are foodies and appreciate a good and unique meal in a beautiful atmosphere!

Not Yummy

By twosavvytravelers |

This was our third time at Talula’s because we just love sitting in the garden...each time I hope the food will be better but it never is. Today I ordered the exotic mushroom omelet because how can you mess up an omelet...they did....the texture was like rubber and the first half of the omelet had no mushrooms. The side salad was difficult to eat in public because the leaves were large with stems attached and no matter how I arranged it my fork there was no way to delicately get it in my mouth. The potatoe side was so-so. I left most of the meal on my plate. The coffee, carrot/orange drink and service were great and of course the atmosphere was divine but I think I’d rather enjoy the food. Sadly good by Talula’s.

Great, great, great

By Bert G |

Great food - really great food - great service, and great setting. What more could you ask for? Especially excellent were the scallops topped with shrimp. over a delightfully lemonized risotto. But you could pick anything on the menu I suspect and be very happy.

Brunch Was Okay

By ae837 |

This is an adorable restaurant with great service. Unfortunately the food was underwhelming. Everything we ordered had great presentation but was bland. We chose it bc it was near our hotel but I probably wouldn’t visit again for brunch.

Our favorite in Philly so far!

By Bets D |

Everything we had was wonderful!! Our table had the scallops, the agnolotti and the branzino. Also had a salad, beets and the cornbread. We liked it all as everything was very well prepared and presented Definitely would go back although the prices are rather steep

Delicious!

By TaraDP |

What a lovely dinner. The restaurant is beautiful! The outdoor garden is so nice but we opted to eat inside due to the ominous sky. The food was amazing as was the service. The chicken with peaches was awesome! Can’t wait to return!

Food Poisoning

By Jay T |

I'm writing this so other's don't need to experience the misfortune of dining at Talula's Garden. My girlfriend and I ordered a cheese platter to start. For our meals we went with the salmon and pork-belly. While walking home we didn't feel quite right but thought maybe we just ate too much. However, a few hours later we both were feeling awful and nauseous. My girlfriend ended up throwing up. We didn't pay as much as we did (which was a lot) to have our night end like this. I would not recommend going here.

Best Meal Ever

By WISHHERE |

My first time here. On Christmas Eve which is also my birthday. Food was Excellent! Service was Excellent! Top Notch. Pricey but worth it. Just Go!

Great dinner!

By Tkaxman |

Had an excellent meal here recently. We chose to sit inside, but there is a charming outdoor eating area. The scallops and shrimp over risotto was delicious! Staff was attentive and service time was appropriate for a quality meal.

Absolutely memorable!!

By Jean C. Taveras |

One of the best dining experiences I have had. The charcuterie board, the chicken dish, the cocktails, the service, everything was amazing. Could not have asked for a better experience, truly.

Probably not worth it.....

By AvgJoe3 |

Chicken and waffles with Tabasco butter and sage gravy was good. The Tabasco butter and sage gravy made it a bit different than the typical southern style. But it was good. The omelet with leeks and melted Brie was only okay. And the side of potatoes also came with fried onions. So a lot of onion flavor but not a lot of other flavors. Service was good. Brunch entrees run $20-$24. I don't think that we will return.

Deserves it positive reputation

By marcin k |

My wife and I had a wonderful dinner. Located in an old building across from a pocket park a bit east of city hall, the vibe was young hipster (we were clearly one of the few senior citizens in attendance) with, as a previous reviewer noted, a bit of noise; we have been in noisier places. the server was knowledgeable and attentive, the food varied, accurately described, attractively presented and, most importantly, delicious. Not cheap but appropriate for the ambiance, service, and quality. A very pleasant two hours.

Cozy restaurant near Washington Square.

By Greg C |

We were in town to celebrate my wife's birthday. We tried this restaurant on a recommendation from my boss. The food was delicious. I had the Branzino and Broccoli, my wife had the Roasted Chicken and Gnocchi. We shared the the Chocolate Pudding cake which was delicious also. My wife really like the bread plates on each table. Each plate was different from the next and look like someone went searching thru some antique shops to pick them out. We ate inside because it was a little to windy to try the patio but it looked really and cozy.

Once for dinner, once for snack

By Florida |

We had a fine dinner and wine at Talula’s inside. I think the quietest tables are by the bar in the large Art Deco room. We had great service by a mature server. No rush. Good cocktails. A couple days later we stopped for drinks and the cheese plate around 4pm. Wow. What a great cheese plate. Very impressed. Also lots of heated outdoor seating.

Everything was fresh and delicious!

By Cynthia |

Please forget your carb limitations--start with the cheesy biscuits. I'm still dreaming about them. I had the chicken and gnocchi, and I tasted my husband's lamb bolonese. We shared a tricolor salad. OMG--I will come back and work through the whole menu!

Fastastic, always one of the best in Philly

By David W |

Very nice atmosphere, inside and outside, rich list of wines, the service is attentive and never invasive, I can suggest the assortment of the best American cheese

Very nice experience - not a diner

By 2BEis2SKI |

We did a search in Philly on best "diners" and Talula's popped up. We drove over, parked, went in and realized quickly it wasn't a true diner. Further, the menu and pricing veered even farther. We had a nice meal and it's a very nice environment. Service was excellent and the food was quite good too. No complaints. We did not have a reservation. We walked up around 7-7:30 on a week night and had no issues. Parking was on the street, easy enough. Cost maybe $5-7. But, if you run into Talula's and it's listed as a diner, be aware that it's not a typical Philly/Jersey diner.

Nice place and nice food

By Kenneth Man |

We booked one day in advance. The service and environment of the restaurant were superb, with fantastic food and drinks.

Elegant celebration!

By David G |

Thanks to the perceptive suggestions of our waiter Brittane. we had a meal to remember in celebration of our daughter‘s graduation from Penn Graduate School. The artichoke dip inaugurated our appetites, entrees ensued of scallops & superb risotto, chicken in a delectable truffle, tarragon sauce, and a lamb Bolognese to die for, all matched with appropriate wines, completed the meal. But no celebration would be complete without dessert! A trio of intensely flavored sorbets joined up with a strawberry rhubarb crumble topped with a superb pistachio ice cream, and desserts continued on with a creme brûlée ! We may die tomorrow. But we feasted today.

Good, very nice and recommended..

By Francisco javie... R |

A somewhat noisy place, and full of people. Brasserie-type and Mediterranean cuisine. Efficient, diligent and smiling (Italian waiter) waiters. Delicious, tasty food, average price, not cheap, and well presented. Although tables without tablecloths. We left satisfied and I recommend it. It is in front of the park.. Meatballs, mushroom cream, sea bass with bulgur, and chicken with sauce and garnishes.. "Organic" type tableware that is popular now:-)).Desserts: correct cream brullé with 2 crispy cookies sugary, crispy, with pistachios and orange...And two scoops of vanilla ice cream on a coulis/compote? of strawberries and a thick "grid" of sugary cookie dough..., which refreshed me. We didn't drink wine...what if 2 large bottles of mineral water...Dinner for 2 with tip (20%) about €165?..

Sitting in a garden with a garden on your plate.

Made a last minute reservation here without knowing too much about it. It was amazing! Everyone in our group of four wanted one of everything. The Farm to Table cuisine is not only fresh but super innovative and delicious. Don't skip the cheddar chive biscuits; everyone at the table needs one! The tuna tartare was similarly excellent. I think this dish is sharable. I had the scallops and shrimp over a lemon scented risotto. YUM! Hubby had the chicken which was moist and delectable. I really wish that I had room for dessert but I didn't. The decor is absolutely lovely! It was such a enjoyable evening. Service was friendly, very capable and moved at the perfect pace. I don't live in Philly but I hope that I have opportunity to return here some day.

Don't skip dessert!

By peakibu |

Made reservations the evening before. Arrived 25 min early, but was seated right away as it was before the dinner rush. All of the staff were kind, welcoming and wore a smile. Started off with The troublemaker, a Strawberry-Lime Margarita, made spicy. Ordered the scallops and shrimp with lemon risotto. It was served with a zucchini and squash salad. Then I ordered the Cinnamon blondie to go. It was served with a side of banana ice cream and delectable rum-caramel! What a beautiful and fabulous meal:)

Birthday brunch

By Daydream744674 |

Went with my wife and one daughter for Sunday brunch. We came here before for my daughter's birthday so the fact that we returned shows that we like the place. The food is great - we had 2 appetizers and 3 entrees + 1 drink and coffees/teas (total inc tip about $165). Service was attentive - although could be a bit quicker with water/coffee refills. Atmosphere is great. We ate inside and teh tables went spaced apart about right - not too close to each other. Recommend booking in advance if you are planning to go at a peak time.

Amazing experience

By tms215 |

This is clearly one of the best restaurants in Philly. Don't let the vegetarian theme scare you. The food is amazing. It is fresh, well prepared, and presented beautifully. The service is on point and friendly. You need reservations but it has a full bar if you need to wait. Clean, unisex bathrooms are centrally located. Easy to find and a must if you are going to the Walnut Street Theater 2 blocks away. It is pricey but worth the money.

It’s a must in Philadelphia

By RMAvila |

A great weeding anniversary celebration. The place has a garden and the internal the internal area. Because of the weather we preferred outside next to a bathtub with water, like in a farm. The main dishes are the kings of the menu, scallops, shrimps and chicken at their perfect cooking point. Nice wine (rose Prosecco) and wild berrys ice cream and pressed coffee to finish our dinner. Francis, our waiter, was a great member of the staff who attended us, all of the super polite and smiiing all the time, 100% recommended

We Love This Place!

We've been to this wonderful restaurant two times. Both times were great! Both the food and service were spot on. We'll be back!

Dinner at Talula’s.

Thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience! Service was impeccable and food delicious. Would highly recommend.

BEST BRUNCH

By Audrey |

This restaurant has the best brunch around! The food is consistently amazing and is always a great atmosphere. For appetizers we had the candied bacon, the mini chocolate croissants, and the French toast sticks with bananas foster sauce. The French toast sticks were definitely the best and even great for someone who is not a huge fan of bananas. For brunch I had the blueberry lemon pancakes. This dish was delicious and the perfect combo of sweet and tart! The chicken and waffles was also amazing and friend perfectly. The farmers brunch was good and a pretty standard American breakfast. The drinks including the hot chocolate, iced coffee, and the fresh squeezed orange juice were also great! I highly recommend this location and will come back very soon!!!!

This Is The Best Restaurant In Center City

By Andrew T |

I’ve been coming to this spot once every few years since they opened. As a concierge, a reservation for my guests here…well, it helped me repay college loans when my guests came back raving about their experience here. So I thank you for being so wonderful and accommodating to our hotel guests! The deliciously rich spatchcock chicken was my choice. And what really inventive is that they use my favorite food, gnocchi, as almost a garnish. They always sauté it too. I love how if you want a good plate of gnocchi you go to South Philly, but here it’s more of a side. This is the restaurant you bring someone you want to impress too, and it’s all local farm-to-table. Southeastern-Central PA and NJ provide some fantastic ingredients. Snag a table in their beautiful garden. Washington Square is a much calmer, chiller square than its Sister Square Rittenhouse. So if you’re banking on a res at Parc, well, reconsider. They’re both great, but Talula’s has the edge. Talula’s has breathing room. Washington Square is a beautiful historic place. I loved living here and reading a book on a nice spring day here. When I’m at Talula’s, I’m home again.

At the recommendation of the waiter I ordered the scallop dish but I don't like curry and I ordered it without it. The scallops were not okay on their own, they needed a sauce. I feel the waiter should have known that and guided me to something else.

25th Anniversary

By kris096 |

We chose well for our celebratory dinner. It rained badly on us as we walked here, so no table outside. Cheese board and a salad, great start. Waitress was thoughtful, attentive. Drinks were creative and delicious. Farm-to-table meal was amazing: short rib, scallops, both with creative combinations.

Peter the waiter is the best! Please try the fried chick with that awesome too die for sage gravy!!!!! The braised short rib dish is awesome too!

Superb food and service

It is not surprising As to why this restaurant is consistently rated so highly. The service was excellent and the food was superb.. Everything seem perfect right from the beginning to the end. I will definitely come back here again

Delicious

Sat outside in small patio- excellent service- chef was able to modify some dishes for my celery allergy. Tuna tartare was amazing and the cheese board a nice variety . The scallop and shrimp dish was delicious and the lemon souffle and donuts (especially!!) fantastic. Would look forward to returning! Try the after dinner cocktail

Easy dinning in Philly

By Jet737858 |

So many choices on the menu. Margarita was excellent. Christine our server was on the money. Mushroom soup is a culinary delight. I had the ravioli and my date had the mushroom stack. Both were very good but the mushroom stack...ahh! Make time to visit.

Great brunch spot!

By Rachael H |

We loved our brunch here! We sat outside with the heaters on and it was perfect. They also had an awesome pumpkin cider that I haven't been able to find anywhere else. Highly recommend for brunch, but probably better for smaller groups.

Over-priced, underwhelming Sunday Brunch

By Chris W |

I really wanted this to be a good review, but... Our server was Lisa, and she walked us through the menu to help us make our brunch decisions. My bf & I started with cocktails...he, the bloody mary and me, as much hot coffee as I could get in. Our starters were split....both awesome, and awful. The awesome was the cornbread with a 'swoosh' of pimento cheese and the delicious corn chow-chow. The awful was the selection of 4 deviled eggs. We l-o-v-e deviled eggs and each showcased (or was supposed to) a different flavor profile...spicy/savory/sweet/seafood. They did not. Why? As these were plated on a slate slab, the kitchen placed a dollop of lemon aioli on the bottom of each deviled egg half to keep them in place. That lemon aioli completely overtook the subtlety of flavors in each deviled egg variation. Borderline inedible! Our starters....the chicken and waffles and the french toast stick with strawberries. Both misses. Why? Chicken & Waffles: I explained to Lisa that I always want chicken and waffles whenever I see them on a menu, and aside from my amazing experience at Roscoe's chicken and waffles in Hollywood, I'm chronically and perpetually let down. She promised me that Talula's would not let me down. They did. The (bottom) the corn meal waffle with the chipotle butter/bourbon syrup and the brussels sprouts (shavings) along with the poached apples were awesome...a delicious base! The fried (boneless) chicken breast coated in cornmeal was technically perfectly done, but utterly devoid of flavor. Nada. French Toast sticks were to be served with fresh strawberries. When they were placed, there were no strawberries to be seen. (My bf chose this option because he loves strawberries). He thought "maybe they're inside the french toast sticks." They were not. We let Lisa know and she was surprised that they weren't there. (Why didn't she see this before we alerted her? Why didn't the kitchen tell servers they were substituting?) And, they substituted with....pears. A way different flavor profile than what strawberries would be. The maple butter was an awesome accompaniment, though. Lisa offered to bring something else, but we declined. We were nearly done with brunch and the damage (3 out of 4 dishes served were...meh). She came back to the table with a thimble of fresh raspberry jam, which was nice, but we wondered what for? My bf added a llittle to his last french toast stick and I took the rest to add to my flavor-less chicken breast...which....voila!.....added some flavor. The bottom line came when the bill came and this brunch (with a 20% tip) came to be $105.00.....One Hundred and Five Dollars....FOR BRUNCH! Ridiculous! For a mediocre brunch at best. And, there was only 1 cocktail.....did I say it was $105.00?! Never again. There are too many good restaurants around Philadelphia for an awesome meal (even for dinner) that would be half the price that we paid for brunch. No way. No return. Not worth it. Uh-uh. We love food and paid nearly $250 for an awesome meal at Suraya a few weeks before. Go there! Stay away from Talula's Garden. Skip it.

THE MOST DELICIOUS MEAL IN PHILADELPHIA

By C1965CIkarens |

oh my god guys, you have got to go to this restaurant pronto. I was in Philadelphia for five days and honestly this was the BEST meal I had. The place has such a cool vibe but very accessible. And another thing we went on a Saturday night and it was rocking but still not so crazy loud my dining companions and I couldn't hear ourselves talk. First off, the service was fabulous we had JeanLuc I believe, excellant waiter who was attentive and didn't hover. Secondly, the food.....you have to have the beet salad, even if you don't think you like beets you have to have it. A wonderul concoction of roasted beets with a creamy light sauce to make a bed for those delicious beets. Also the cheddar/chive biscuits are a must, they have some kind of magic in the kitchen that turns these things into a melt in your mouth experience complete with honey pepper butter. DIVINE I had the Branzino which was top tier and finished with the donuts ( which were hot by the way- BOOM ) with a huckleberry sauce and lemon whipped cream. Honestly this place is 5 stars and I hope its still here next year when I come back for the Flower Show. Well done Talulas

Delicious local food and outstanding service

By v0yageur22 |

Went to a wedding here recently and had a wonderful time. Drinks were delicious, appetizers were consistently out of this world terrific and the main courses and desserts were wonderful (with one exception: the ravioli were too salty and had too much rosemary). The staff were professional and welcoming.

A special dinner spot in Phili

We had a great experience. Friendly staff, great ambiance. Excellent menu even though a little hard to read. Every dish was excellent. I think I’ll return to try other dishes and work through the menu.

Talula's Garden-1 of our top 3 Philly restaurants

By travelbelle88 |

Talula's Garden is one our top 3 favourite restaurants in Philly. At yesterday's visit, service was superb and the food was excellent. The mushroom soup was so different and better than any I've tasted before. The lamb bolognese was delish. The garden seating, provided for years before COVID-19 hit, was also beautiful, and our preferred seating choice. prices are not low, but commensurate with the level of quality of food, service, and ambience.

Worth all the Hype

By Nora C |

Yes, you need reservations or grab seats at the bar! The place is tight quarters, so the foyer is very crowded. The food is amazing. We did order breakfast appetizers! You can not go wrong! The side potatoes are so good. Crispy and perfect. It was a perfect brunch.

Okay but not a good value

By Dan B |

This restaurant has a lovely atmosphere, way above average service, decent food, but not good value for the money. Let me explain. On a recent visit we were impressed by the lovely atmosphere including rustic furniture, original garden oil paintings, and high ceilings. They do a great job of bringing the feeling of a garden into the middle of the city. Also the service was excellent and friendly, almost to the point of being obtrusive. So far so good. Unfortunately the food was not exceptional. My partner had the Truffle Tagliatelle ($23), which had a tasty parmesan-truffle broth, and the Roasted Beets ($8) which were well-prepared and came with a dollop of ricotta cheese, a pleasant surprise. I had the Talula's Fried Chicken Dinner ($33), which was unmemorable. The fried chicken was okay but boneless and so less flavorful. The accompanying cornbread was also blah, and the vegetable consisted of three green beans hidden under the chicken. The gravy was very good. Now about the price. In addition to the high prices I showed for the food items ($33 for fried chicken?!?), drinks and glasses of wine started at $14 and went up from there. We had one drink and one glass of wine each, which came to $59 for the bar alone. Ouch! All in all, we thought this was a pleasant restaurant, but no a price performer. We would not return unless somebody else was buying, or unless it was a very special occasion and we wanted a big splurge. There are other, much better values in the area.

Food was so amazing

By lb33wonka |

What a nice place to eat and right across from Washington park.We came with our kids for our anniversary and it was top notch from check in to bill. The scallops were the best we ever had and the carrot cake was the most amazing desert ever

Birthday with grandmother

Great food, especially the appetizers. Let your server recommend some options. Only downside was poor beer selection, but not a big deal

Very Good Dinner

By larryderm |

We tried the restaurant once again, and for the first time the food and service were good. The salads were well-prepared, and the salmon excellent, contrary to a year ago. The service was attentive. NB. no bread and salt and paper only on demand. The music is atrocious and loud.

It Gets Better and Better

By barryshap2017 |

Went back to my favorite restaurant in Philadelphia and it was just as wonderful as before if not better. The staff is amazing (especially Cecilia) and they never stop working. If you're lucky you might see the owner Aimee delivering dishes to your table or coming over for a chat. My server Angela was as efficient as she is delightful. The gnudi is my favorite dish but there are many great starters and entrees on the menu as well as desserts. Reserve in advance, it's is always crowded.

Brunch is great for vegetarians!

By E B |

The brunch here was fantastic. There were both sweet and savory vegetarian items available. Our waitress Angela was very attentive throughout this. Try the chocolate croissants :)

The best meal I have had this year

By Mattie P |

The best meal I have had this year!! Absolutely phenomenal. My husband and I had the cheese plate appetizer, salmon entree, and blueberry bars dessert. The salmon was the home-run for me. Flavors for days! Also had the espresso martini and it was delicious. The garden was lovely. Wear some citronella oil if you’re sensitive to minor mosquito community. Still worth it to sit outside though.

Just OK, high prices, average food, always an attitude.

By JohnY303 |

Portions are small, drinks and wine very expensive. Food is ok..........but nothing special. I live nearby so I keep trying to like it...........but the hostess always have an attitude........probably won't return.

Perfection!

By Marianna P |

After a long day of walking all over Philadelphia we had dinner at Talula's Garden. Wow - all three of us were truly impressed with our entire dinner experience. I have to be gluten free and all but 1 item on the menu they were able to modify to accommodate me. The service and atmosphere was warm and friendly. We shared 3 starters, 3 dinners and 3 sides. Every dish tasted delicious and the blend of ingredients were incredible. The mushroom soup we voted as our stand-out of the meal.

Wonderful service semi expensive

By marine72781 |

Top notch service. I couldn’t believe how great the service here was. They all work together flawlessly. We parked right out front and just paid for a hour and 45 minutes using up all but 10 minutes. (Cost $7.45) We had made a reservation on open table. They called to confirm. We got there a little early (as we were coming from out of town) but they were able to seat us within a few minutes. The bill adds up quick but everything looked so good we just had to order a bunch. Appetizers My favorite part of the meal was the fall farmstead salad. It was plentiful and had such a clean taste to it. Everything was fresh and crisp and I loved it. The biscuits are a must get. The meatballs were ok, I wouldn’t say they were worth the price point. Dinner My wife got the steak and there was so much food on her plate she couldn’t finish. The steak was cooked to temperature and tasted amazing. I got the chicken and gnocchi. It’s supposed to be something they serve year round but it was meh. The chicken was moist but the gnocchi didn’t have much flavor even though it had a brown sauce on it. We ordered additional sides. The broccoli with the lemon sauce was really good. The Thai cucumber salad had a spice to it that I wasn’t a fan of. We were too full for dessert so we didn’t try it. The service really made the night. Nikhil was the server so ask for him

Garden dinner in Philly

By Emily P |

Talula’s Garden has been on my must try list for quite some time. I finally had the opportunity to eat here on my last visit to Philadelphia. It was worth the wait! I loved the tranquil garden setting and top-notch service. To start my husband and I shared the meatballs al Forno. These meatballs were outstanding! So much flavor and cooked perfectly. I have been craving a good “homemade” meatball and these hit the mark! The sauce had lots of flavor and the garlic bread was the perfect vehicle to mop up the extra sauce. For dinner I had the salmon which was cooked to perfection. The presentation of this dish was almost too beautiful to eat. When our meals arrived the food runner described the food on the plate in great detail it made my mouth water. Never have I had any one describe in such detail what I was about to eat. This will be one of the first places I make a reservation for when I visit again next year.

Exceeded my expectations!

By JillHiggins54171 |

We loved everything about our meal. We started with the cheese board which was delicious and fun. Cocktails were great (mule). My son had the steak and I had a vegetarian curry. Both were fabulous. Kenny was wonderful and made great recommendations.

Special Engagement Dinner

By George B |

On a very special night for us, dinner at Talula’s made it even better. The food was excellent quality and the service, from Francis especially, was outstanding. Would highly recommend!

Mediocre In-Place

By larryderm |

We had previously been here on two occasions. We were so under-whelmed that we never returned until this evening, when we wanted to give another try. Mediocre to say the least. The pasta, served as an appetizer, was oily and undistinguished The salmon was so oily that one of us couldn't finish it. The two rolls were mediocre, as was the service. No salt and pepper on the table, a real affectation. The restaurant is noisy, unnecessarily expensive ($145 for one wine, two appetizers, and two salmons, and not worth a fourth try, at least for many years.

Doubly Delightful

By Wurbur |

On a recent trip to Philly, we had the good fortune to blindly select Talula’s Garden from the recommendation list at our B&B. The staff was congenial, the restaurant attractive, and the meal was outstanding—so much so that when it came time to decide on the next night’s foodie destination we all wanted to return to Talula’s. So what was so tremendous about the food? We were won over immediately by the cheeseboard: the seasonal selection was a delight of progressively more tasty and nuanced offerings. The second night we chose the world tour board, and it was even nicer. We enjoyed the variety on their cocktail menu, and the wine list yielded two very nice Italian reds to accompany our meals. The starters and mains over two nights were uniformly excellent. The first night was rainy and miserable, so we ate inside, but the second evening, in a gorgeous autumn twilight, we found the courtyard a delightful space for good conversation and delicious dining. If we’d stayed a third night in Philly, I feel sure we’d have returned to Talula’s!

A little treasure

ABSOLUTELY ONE OF THE BEST MEALS WE’VE EVER HAD (and we eat out A LOT). Such unique and vibrant flavors. Very fresh ingredients. You can tell everything is made with love! The decor is beautiful, charming, cozy, and so creative. Loved every moment and will DEFINITELY be back🥰

Great atmosphere, better food!

By Justin L |

Birthday Dinner with family, great location. Amazing atmosphere out in the garden and the food was fantastic, albeit a little pricey. Great memories, enjoyed every minute!

Perfect anniversary

By Jadles |

The service was incredible. Very attentive and eager to provide the best experience possible. Lovely special touches for celebrations. The food was some of the best we’ve ever had, and the price is so much more reasonable than I expected. We’ll be returning whenever we’re visiting the area again.

Overall we had a fantastic

By NurseMNB |

Overall we had a fantastic dinner here! We arrived about 5 minutes before our reservation and were promptly seated at a table literally on the sidewalk with one of us facing a plain wall. There was another area on sidewalk/street that was at least cute and had nice view of the square gardens and then of course all the cute pictures you see on here of Talula’s Garden area. Now I’m not one to complain but on the reservation special details part I put it was our 2 year anniversary dinner. So it was disappointing to literally be sat at the worse table in the place and see others arrive to garden tables. Ok food. Food was on point! We ordered the brussel sprouts and cornbread sides as appetizers and both were delicious!!! For dinner my husband ordered the fried chicken dinner and loved it. I got the vegetable and grain bowl and it was perfect! Both good sized too! So again I probably would of stayed as long as reservation allowed and continued to drink but there was no ambience so we got check. Check done and we are literally about to get up when waitress brings us 2 tiny pieces of mocha cake and says oh happy anniversary. Again if this had happened in good timing I would of probably ordered a glass of champagne to go with it but instead I enjoyed the fabulous bite with nothing to wash it down. So overall I can’t give it a bad review because of all the good food but was not what I would expect from my high bill price. They need to step up their customer service game.

Beautiful restaurant

By Archie |

This is a really pleasant restaurant. The tables are way too close together. We were bumping into the people next to us. Nice wait staff and quick service. We enjoyed our drinks moscow mule and beer. We liked the brussels sprouts and cornbread with Chipotle honey butter. It's a lovely restaurant. We parked at the hotel across the street.

Lovely place, food disappoints.

By tillyhill |

Great expectations, but the food really isn't that great. My sliced duck breast stir-fry could have been from any decent Chinese take-out menu, salmon was just OK, cauliflower Caesar salad was flavorless, and tuna poke was drowned in a very creamy lime-coconut sauce. Tables are close together. But the place IS pretty.

Wonderful Night, don't doubt the peach tarte

By Sean |

My wife and I were in town for a surprise birthday party and found Talula's Garden by some quick searching. It was an excellent dinner, and seemed to be worth the higher prices. I had the crab & spaghetti which I enjoyed, along with our sides (cucumber salad and an order of the frites). My wife loved the cucumber salad, and kept showing me how nice her ravioli looked. We were both stuffed but couldn't not order dessert. Everything was great from the cute alley seating area, to the "bonus" food dropped off, and our entrees. We look forward to coming back next time we're in town. That peach tarte dessert was a nice surprise, I was skeptical, but it was recommended and we were glad we gave it a shot.

Great menu, atmosphere, service and cuisine

By Cameron06820 |

Very nice, upscale American cuisine restaurant with large (heated) outdoor dining area. The staff was very knowlegdable and accommodating to my wife's VEGAN diet and each dish was beautifully presented and described by ingredients. Gracious service. A bit noisy and crowded (on a Friday night) so reservations are a must.

Talula’s Garden C'est vraiment excellent.

By wainiec |

Excellent cocktails! Excellent food! Excellent service! One of the best dining experiences I’ve had in quite some time. Cannot wait to return.

Great date place.

By Gscjjj |

I ate here just last week. I personally had the Seared Sea Scallops & Gulf Shrimp. There were three scallops and three shrimp on a plate of risotto. Everything was delicious. My friends were all very satisfied with their entrees. We ordered both the Cheddar-Chive Biscuits and the Fresh Baked Cornbread to share. The biscuits were quite dry but the cornbread was good, not outstanding. None of us had cocktails or dessert. We ate outside and it was lovely. Service was excellent.

Outstanding!

By 1Buffettfan |

Had a fantastic meal with a great wine served by an Angela, friendly and very capable young lady! Branzino for Susan and Spatchcock chicken with gnocchi for me. They were superb, not sure why with a lot of outdoor tables only 2 tables on the sidewalk were available for parties with dogs. The gentleman who presented and opened our delicious Sauvignon Blanc was also charming and smooth.

Nice place. Extensive cheese

By MSAUsa |

Nice place. Extensive cheese options. Desserts great. Ravioli was good. Wine menu extensive. Need reservation.

Top notch food at this Washington Square restaurant.

By drmsm99 |

Just had dinner here tonight. My wife and I both had drinks (I had the Troublemaker/Margarita and my wife had the Southerner/green tea with Vodka). We shared an appetizer, the cheddar Biscuits. For entrees, she had the scallops and shrimp with risotto and I chose the short rib with polenta. Finally, for dessert she had the galette and I had the key lime souffle cake. The ratings for Talula’s are well deserved, everything that we ordered was fantastic. Service was attentive and pleasant. The outside eating area is well spaced, inviting and covered in case of inclement weather. We will definitely be back in the future.

Wonderful Sunday morning brunch

By TravelDoc356 |

We had brunch here after checking out of our hotel, and before heading to the airport to go home. The food was phenomenal, and the breakfast cocktails were delicious! Plus the view of Washington Square from the outside seating was perfect on this early fall morning.

Spectacular food!

By Randall C |

We had an amazing time. The food was spectacular and the service was perfect. Our server knew the menu and wine list. He was able to answer all questions and direct us to a good bottle of wine. We really enjoyed ourselves.

Temptingly Tasty Talula's

By Epicurean Belletrist |

A few years ago, while visiting Center City, Philadelphia, we stumbled upon Talula's Garden. We had no idea of the magic that awaited us, but fast forward a few years, on a return trip to the area, we were sure to make a reservation at Talula's again for our first night in town. Driven by local ingredients Talula’s Garden, is a farm to table experience conceived by award winning chef Aimee Olexy. The restaurant is nestled on a beautiful street just across from a park and offers both luxurious inside dining and fairytale-esque garden seating options. We began our meal with a bright and refreshing cocktail, The Sicilian, Talula’s Blood-Orange Gimlet, which is made with gin, Italian blood orange, fresh lime and agave. A super delicious start to a yummy meal! Next we delighted in the Thai Cucumber Salad, which was deliciously marinated in a sesame chili vinaigrette and garnished with red onion, mint and crunchy peanuts We selected the Bronzino and Roasted Bone-In Pork Chops for our entrees. The Branzino was beautifully seared, flaky and flavorful. It topped a creamy, lemony, white bean puree and was accompanied by broccoli, baby kale and a spectacular garlic-anchovie-chili vinaigrette. The Smoke Roasted Bone-in Pork Chop was charred in just the right way and remained super juicy and fork tender. It was accompanied by cheddar grits, roasted shishitos, poblanos, red onions and chipotle beurre fondue. The only suggestion would be to assess the grits to pork chop ratio as we felt the portion of grits was quite substantial. Overall Talula's is a fantastic find and will remain on our Philly Food Faves list for all future visits!! I highly recommend trying this magical little haven in the heart of Center City!!

Talula's is a Must for an Exceptional Culinary Experience

By gerryh1586 |

Talula's Garden, 210 West Washington Square, Philadelphia, PA., is where we chose to celebrate our 30th Anniversary. It was our first time there. We travelled from Virginia to spend a long weekend in Philadelphia for this special celebration. Found Talula's on the Internet, after a deep search of restaurant offerings in the city. It seemed like a place that would be appropriate for this special celebration. Pre-arrival Communication with Talula's was excellent. My wife is in a wheelchair and they made sure we has access, knew where closest parking was, and ensured we had a place to put the wheelchair while dining. We were greeted at the hostess desk, they were well prepared, wished us a happy anniversary and escorted us to a nearby table. Water and an enjoyable amuse-bouche of herbed Hudson Valley goat cheese on a delicate cracker arrived soon, brought by the lovely, and elegant Angie, along with a complimentary glass of champagne to begin our celebratory evening. Our amazing server Matthew arrived to take drink orders and leave menu and drink offerings. Matthew was patient, professional, incredibly informative and very personable. We decided on Cocktails and "The Master Class... Six Artisan Cheeses" with candied nuts, jams, pickles, and honey along with a 'lesson plan' to guide your enjoyment. Highly recommend this starter. My wife ordered the 'Pennsylvania Beef Short Rib' parmesan polenta, smoked red onion, braised escarole, aged balsamic-red wine jus. I ordered the 'Lamb Bolognese' rosemary pappardelle, slow roasted tomato & fennel, whipped ricotta, and savory black olive breadcrumbs for entrees. Both were prepared to perfection and satisfied Every desire for a special, wonderful culinary experience. The side of 'Roasted Beets' with walnuts, ricotta and orange zest was a perfect accompaniment. Water was supplied consistently. The staff performed an impressive balet while serving and busing tables. Miraculous and silent, it was always surprising to realize it was happening around us. Matthew was attentive, without being smothering, attending to a number of tables around us with perfection. For a finish, we asked Matthew for his recommendation. Without skipping a beat he selected the 'Warm Banana-Rum Blondie' a cinnamon blondie, banana ice cream, salty walnuts, and rum caramel. When we questioned the cinnamon blondie, and banana ice cream, he immediately said we were right, he felt the same way when he tried it for the first time saying he didn't even like Banana ice cream, and yet, when he took the combined items as a bite for the first time, it was a magical taste experience. So we ordered that and a  'Chocolate and Coffee' chocolate mouse bar, salty pretzel crust, coffee ice cream, and vanilla whip, to share. Two plates were brought along with the deserts. To say the first full bite of the Banana-Rum Blondie was mind blowing, is underestimating the taste sensation. It made me laugh that it was so good. My wife was astounded by the flavor. It took us 4-5 minutes to stop telling each other how good we thought it was and why. The Chocolate and Coffee was really good as well. Light, creamy, perfectly matched flavors of smooth chocolate and rich coffee. It was world class. Still, my wife caught me staring at her half of the Banana-rum Blondie on her plate and jokingly covered my view with her hand. The Blondie is a must, the Chocolate & Coffee will not disappoint. We finished with a large French Press of excellent coffee to end one of the finest culinary experiences we've had. Thank you to everyone at Talula's for making this a magical, unforgettable experience and celebration.

CORN. MUFFIN

By ilovecorndogs |

This place is amazing, I had a number of lunch and breakfast foods here, and then fell into a deep and delicious food coma nap. I had an amazing brussel sprout salad, a RIDICULOUS breakfast sandwich, and finally, the BEST CORN MUFFIN EVER. I mean, I ate two of them, and am drooling on my keyboard now thinking of a third GO to this place, its amazing.

Love this sweet place on Washington Square

By baligirldenise |

Perfect place to grab lunch, snack, coffee, tea etc. Love that they have real silverware and glasses of ice water. Super clean bathroom. Great staff. Community table as well. Must experience. ok that's a wrap.

Crazy markup on bad wine, everything tasted like lemon.

By jenn_girl88 |

To start, very nice ambiance but the tables are way too close together. I heard every word of date happening next to us, seemed to be going well, also I had our waiters butt in my face a lot while he was talking with and waiting on them - thank god he was slim. Second ordered a bottle of the Malbec. Is was very week as far as Malbec's go especially for a $72 bottle of wine. Later my husband googled the label, it was less the $9 at total wine. Typically a bottle of wine at a restaurant is 300 to 400% mark up. This was disappointing to see. If it had been a good bottle I probable wouldn't have felt so bad. I don't want to have to Google a label before I order. The food was creative, a lot going on and good if you like lemon. Artichoke dip was good but very lemon forward as was the chicken and the scallops. I do want the recipient for the Thai cucumber salad. That was the only thing that didn't taste like lemon.

An adhoc night of pure dining delight!!!

By Nicola A |

This place has an amazing vibe, even though I mistakenly booked for the following day they were so gracious & accommodating as to let us have a fee cocktails whilst waiting at the mesmerising bar. Then the cheese experience is soooo worth having to start (& who thought to do a cheese board first? Inspired!) Then both Salmon & Pork chops where equally delicious, such a treat on our first experience in U.S & Philly or first stop on our 4,000mile Road trip. If in doubt, do not...go, please...experience dining in a friendly, buzzing & foodie loving way!!! Enjoy, we most definitely did!

Awesomeness

By Thrushforce |

Great spot in every way. Service, ambience of or course the delicious dinner. Thrilled we were able to go!

One of our favorite spots in Philly!

By Tom M |

We live 50 miles from Philly. We were going to be in town for a show at the Walnut Street Theatre, celebrating our anniversary. I made reservations at Talula's Garden due to it's proximity to the theater. I believe this was our third or fourth time dining there. I had the Roasted Chicken with Gnocchi and my wife had the Handmade Ricotta Ravioli. To say they were both good would be an understatement. My wife usually never finishes her entree (she did), and it was the absolute best chicken I have ever eaten (anywhere). The only thing that would have made it any better would have been a nice piece of crusty bread to lap up the sauce, as licking the plate would have probably been in bad taste! Outstanding experience from start to finish.

Fantastic Find!

By MLilly190 |

Fabulous Food and Atmosphere. Just loved it. We had sea bass cooked to perfection and the Scallops dish with the combination of flavors was the very best I ever had. Salads perfectly prepared and crisp. The details in the restaurant from the lighting to the murals on the walls just lovely! Adored this restaurant. Only negative: our wait staff woman was so condescending and pretentious, she was annoying. Fine dining does not need to be accompanied by a completely pretentious wait staff discussing in detail the “complicated convergence of flavors”. Her speech pattern was so obviously fake, it was a turn off rather than setting a comfortable tone for the evening. Nonetheless /maxing restaurant. We will return and ask for a different server.

Not bad, but oddly overrated.

By Jimtapp |

Not sure I understand the high ratings this place gets. It wasn’t bad, but not exceptional in any way. Nothing on the menu was compelling or original, so I went with the fried chicken. It was OK, but not special and not worth $32.00. The service was outstanding, which is rare these days, but I won’t return here, and would hesitate to recommend it to friends. Just being honest.

Brunch Wedding in September '18

By Dan K |

When my wife and I got married a year ago (today), it was at Talula's Garden for a Saturday brunch. We were married in the garden, before spending the next few hours in their intimate space, having one of the best days of our lives. If we had written a review in the warm afterglow of that day, it would have been effusive in its praise. Now? A year down the road? Talula's Garden stands out as even better with time. The wife and I sat down to talk about what stood out in our minds a year in. First - it's impossible to start with anything but the food and drinks. Talula's is a wonderful restaurant, and they didn't disappoint; people still tell us how good the food and drinks were. They have some standard menu items, then seasonal menu items, so we selected the menu a few weeks before our wedding (which was actually quite fun!) along with passed hors d'oeuvres. The drinks blew me away - and thanks to our bill breakdown, we know that our guests like The Artist the most. Next would be the beautiful space. The garden was an amazing backdrop to be married in, with funky seating, green seemingly surrounding us, and maybe best of all - no added expense to decorate. It was beautiful as is. It's a smaller space, but for 50 people it was perfect. The staff was a good as I've been with. For my wife and I, they continuously circulated and asked if we needed anything, brought us drinks (wine, champagne) the moment we came back from a few post-vow pictures in Washington Square Park, and were incredibly efficient. We also had several guests with significant food allergies, including shellfish, caffeine, citric acid, and gluten, and each guest had personal attention to explain the separate dishes made and ensure we wouldn't have a hospital run involved. And finally - ease of planning. We live in California but wanted to be married at home, and planning from 3 hours + 3500 miles away felt effortless. Kerri in particular (the Starr events coordinator) was a delight to work with. Responsiveness, detailed answers, and putting my anxious wife's mind to ease. The only downside to the whole experience was worrying about rain - as the ceremony backup plan is inside - but besides that, I don't regret for a second our choice. A year down the line, it was as good as we remembered.

Maybe in summer it is better

By stonewell |

This is the first time ever we were not asked if a table in the bar would be acceptable. We were just led there with my husband's seat facing the coats on the coat rack. He also was right in the path of the servers ringing up the bills as well as retrieving drinks from the bar so he was often jostled as they went past him carrying items. There was the inevitable cool breeze as the traffic of the servers went directly by us. It was clearly the least desirable seat in the house. To my taste the food was spicy as well as the cocktail I ordered, though I read the descriptions carefully to avoid such an occurrence. Perhaps sitting on the patio in the summer would make it a more pleasant experience as well as asking if any of the dishes are spicy.

Love the outdoor seating! Pricey but well executed.

By TooFrequentTraveller |

I had time before taking a flight and enjoyed the chef’s tasting menu in Talula’s garden patio. Very cool vibe in all the different spaces - inside; at the bar; on the terrace. Flawless and friendly service - loved the staff. The dishes were not too inventive, but well executed. All together it was time well spent; but on the pricey side.

Great choice

By Omar R |

Extremely cool place. The cheese tray was delicious. I ordered the beef short ribs. My wife ordered the chicken. Both were amazing. It’s a place we will certainly go to again

Very pleasant spot with first rate food and service but beware of the meter maids

By Medstrike |

My wife and I celebrated our 14th wedding anniversary (we are in our 70s) here and could not have been happier with the restaurant - food and service both superb. The cheddar chive biscuits with salted honey black pepper butter got us off to a good start, followed by scallops and shrimp for my wife and salmon for me -- all cooked to perfection. Desert was wildflower honey creme brûlée for me and orchard apple tarte tatin for my wife. They have a lengthy wine list but I settled for a good local helles lager and my wife said her dirty martini was top notch. The atmosphere is pleasant: lively but not loud, with flower themed decor. (My wife is a gardener.) We would like to go back, but the city thanked us for coming from NJ to support a local restaurant by giving us a $76 parking ticket even though my wife's car has handicap plates and we paid the meter for the handicap spot - apparently too far out of the spot.

A Philadelphia must!!

Great restaurant with beautiful outside dining garden or inside dining Is HERE for a fabulous meal!! The waitstaff is efficient, knowledgeable, and well trained, the scrumptious food (especially the large selection of cheese plates to begin your meal), and wine selections are what makes this restaurant a HAVE TO GO THERE!!!

Lovely full service upscale restaurant

Quite good. Interesting menu with skilled preparation. Good service seems well managed. Interesting building , but that's Philly!] We enjoyed everything.

Delicious food!

The atmosphere in the garden was cozy and so pretty. We met friends there but took our toddler and they were very child friendly, much to our delight! The cheese plate was delicious! And the entrees were great also- had the short rib and chicken dishes. We will definitely go back.

The food was very good but this place is crazy busy. Outside seating was charming but we sat at a table in the bar area. Service was good despite the crowd and loved the cheese plate to start. Salmon and sea bass were both excellent with great depth of flavor. The shrimp salad was also delicious. The place just seemed to busy and frenzied and was just not as relaxing as dinner should be.

Anniversary dinner to remember

By ToursJones |

We were given a lovely table and attentive service. Both the main courses were outstanding- seared scallops and shrimp on a delicate lemon risotto - peppercorn crusted sliced strip steak cooked perfectly. A special touch was presented at the end of the meal - little cakes decorated with ‘Happy Anniversary’ - a lovely surprise!

Perfect Getaway

By Ines R |

simply lovely. Matt was a great help, always checking up on us and treating us with kindness. The food was great, and we just had to try desert, even after being full. Most of all I recommend the butter potatoes, roasted chicken and the wallflower speciality drink which I adored! The vibe was really nice, warm lighting, slightly loud due to this being a popular place. As mentioned, the food was great, service was great and really enjoyed the evening here. Perfect finish to my trip here in Philly !🌸

Fantastic place for brunch

By Margaret P |

We chose Talula’s Garden for Sunday brunch on our weekend stopover in Philadelphia. It was fantastic with great food and wonderful service. We started with a bowl of fresh fruits and the French toast bites. The French toast bites were absolutely delicious, so light and fluffy with a lovely strawberry jam. We followed that with the mushroom omelet for me and shrimp and grits for my husband. Both were very tasty and the freshness of the ingredients was evident. We will definitely be back on our next visit as there were many other items on the menu that looked good - we had a hard time choosing!

Romantic Garden Setting

By Donna B |

We celebrated my birthday at Talula's Garden and were pleased that we could get reservations when most other restaurants were filled. We opted for outdoor garden seating and online reservations were easy to make. The menu changes every month, focusing on seasonal ingredients and there were many choices on the menu. I opted for a salad with that included pears for an appetizer and the risotto with shrimp and scallops, and my husband had the Italian meatballs for an appetizer and ravioli with mushrooms for his entree. We each had a glass of wine and shared a dessert. We had to add a few dollars to our $200 gift card for the tip, so it's rather expensive but very high quality. The atmosphere was fun and casual, with both young and older diners. Our server offered no suggestions with the menu, just saying that she would give us more time to decide. The server at an adjacent table was just the opposite, even offering to make substitutions of potatoes for farro with a salmon entree. But overall we had a very enjoyable dinner.

Disappointing

By Sergei PT |

Place is well located, right next to Washington square in a nice area. Entrance and the terrace are very nice, as well as the restaurant inside. Good ambiance, it was full. The problem is our server was in charge of way too many tables, heavily understaffed the place. Three girls at the front doing little. Menu is confusing, way too complicated. Then the food is also kind of messy, really. Too many flavors going on in every dish. Then at the end I couldn't pay with my phone. Only place in Philadelphia I haven't been able to. Including mini markets and $1 bills. Just not good.

This was our first time at

By KRod |

This was our first time at Talula’s Garden but definitely not our last! Everything was fantastic—from the service to the food. We ordered the mushroom risotto as a starter and the chicken and dumplings and short rib for our entrees. All three dishes were executed excellently. For dessert we got the strawberry-rhubarb crumble w/ buttermilk ice cream. I would highly recommend all of these dishes. You won’t be disappointed!

A new standard for Risotto!

By eof025 |

Enjoyed a great meal on a recent visit to Philly. Talula's Garden has great atmosphere and ambience. Tables along wall with bench seating are a touch close together, makes for cozy conversation. Brussels Sprouts pizza is a great starter and tasty with 4 good sized pieces. The smoked Bourbon glazed pork belly melts in your mouth, literally! The highlight was the Exotic Kennett Square Mushroom Risotto. This is the standard that all Risottos should be judged by!

Disappointing Cheese

By LucindaViolet |

It’s been a few years since I’ve eaten here and the quality has gone downhill. The service was very good, savory food fine (though a bit heavy-handed with the tarragon in several dishes), and the desserts excellent, but the experience was otherwise unimpressive. I was looking forward to ordering cheese, but was disappointed. Instead of the former diverse selection of quality cheese, there is now a “Master Class” cheese plate featuring 6 supposedly artisan cheeses. They were all mass-produced cheeses commonly available in grocery stores, what we called “lowest common denominator” cheeses when I worked in a cheese shop. Crowd-pleasers with very little nuance. We’d sell them to the customers who thought the good cheeses were too strong. The selection consisted of: -a young goat Gouda, pleasant and mild -Fromager d’Affinois, Brie-like without the flavor -Romao, bland sheep’s milk cheese coated with rosemary (cut weirdly, so it was just the herby rind and very little cheese) -Red Dragon, bland cheddarish cheese blended with mustard and beer for flavor -Sartori BellaVitano, bland cheese from Wisconsin crusted with black pepper for flavor -Buttermilk Blue, mild blue also from Wisconsin These are all inexpensive cheeses from large producers, not a single local cheese. They could put together an amazing cheese board of local cheeses sourced by Ann Karlen that would be a true master class. Or offer a “Basic” cheese plate of these common cheeses and an “Advanced” one at a higher price point. For a restaurant that touts its “true farm-to-table ethos,” there’s very little on the menu that appears to be locally sourced. It’s concerning that not a single local farm is listed on the menu and I suspect that it’s mostly produce from California and factory-farmed meat. Yes, buying from local farmers is more expensive, but it’s what they should be doing if they claim to be farm-to-table.

Outstanding - 3rd visit for dinner

By stangina |

Tried it at the suggestion of our hotel. Now have visited three times over the last month. Service is impeccable, outside seating is great alongside the restaurant and away from the street. Tuna appetizer was perfect and I really liked the Bronzino and my wife liked the sea scallops and shrimp but modified to be on spinach. Will definitely go back.

Lovely Dinner and Warmth Where You Felt Like A Regular

By Dru H |

Sometimes an experience is so wonderful, you have to write a review ! We did not have a reservation but were able to be seated in the bar right at 5. Lindsey our bartender was fun, knowledgeable and asked us questions so he could make recommendations. He was right on: from the cheese appetizers to the entree and dessert. Not only was the food a 10! on 1 to 10 scale, but the experience itself was so warm and inviting . Easy to talk and we never felt rushed.

Great find for special night out

Unexpected restaurant from the kerbside . Staff friendly but professional. Food unusual, local produce at its best ! Sprouts seem to be a local delicacy?

Excellent Brunch

By Margaret R |

We learned about Talula's Garden from an online search "Best Brunch Spots in Philadelphia" and it did not disappoint. No matter where you are seated, you will be happy: inside is lovely, the garden with overhead trellis is charming, and there are individual chalets on the sidewalk. The food was incredible, and our server was attentive without being obtrusive. We definitely did not feel rushed or hurried along, as is the case with some restaurants! My daughter had the chicken and waffles, and I had an INCREDIBLE eggs benedict. Coffee was delicious, as were our two indulgent appetizers: the blueberry muffins (2) and the chocolate mini-croissants (3). The bill including tip for two (no alcohol) was $107.00 so it's not cheap, but we were on vacation so we didn't mind.

Expensive but Yummy

By Rachel F |

First off, this restaurant is pricey. No getting by that! And crowded! But the candied bacon was delicious and the bananas foster pancakes were quite good. I’ve had better brunch, but this hit the spot.

Perfect celebration dinner!

By mamahamill5057 |

My daughter and I wanted to celebrate a life event when staying in Philadelphia. A friend recommended Talula’s and we are so happy he did! Amazing meal, service, setting.... we couldn’t have asked for more! Thank you for making our night so special.

One of Philly’s best

By travelbelle88 |

The appetizers, main courses, and desserts were all superb. Service was top-notch. The staff really moves at an accelerated pace. Their corn bread with maple butter is always great. The buratta toast came with excellent accompaniments. The hanger steak had a marvelous sauce and tasty sides. The peanut butter brownie and smooth ice cream were also delish. Expensive but one of the best in Philly.

Farm to Table Excellence

By JR K |

Perhaps the best meal I had in Philadelphia. Very large restaurant with big patio and several inside dining areas plus a large bar. Well appointed and elegant but still warm and welcoming atmosphere. We enjoyed a meal of roasted cauliflower with coconut curry, garbanzo beans and quinoa. Along with lamb bolognese Pappardelle with whipped ricotta. Their chive and cheddar biscuits are to die for. Wine options are well chosen and multiple by the glass offerings

Food and service are great!

By Randall C |

We had a wonderful time here for dinner. Both the service and food were great. I had the fried chicken and my partner had the branzino filet. As an appetizer we split the tuna and watermelon ceviche. We left quite full

Talulah’s Garden is still on top of their game

By Robert D |

Went out with a couple of friends and it was an outstanding meal. Enjoyed the Tuna Poke appetizer and the duck breast medium rare. Cheese plate for dessert with an outstanding Tawny Port. Service was top notch. A little loud but did not detract from the evening at all. My wife had the scallops which were also prepared to perfection.

Great service matched with great food

By Grey T |

Was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. Going in, my assumption was that this would be another run of the mill “elevated fare” restaurant. While the food was delicious, the service was the real stand out. The server was excellent, answered all of my questions and never allowed my water glass to get less than half full. Each dish was brought out and then described with flavors and ingredients. I was too full to enjoy dessert, but a small, bite size cake piece was brought to me with the check simply to enjoy. Food was well prepared and definitely a step above my expectation. Overall, one of the best dining experiences I’ve had recently. Will definitely visit again.

One of the best places in Philadelphia

Great place if you choose a table in the yard. One of the best places in Philadelphia. Great cocktails.

Dinner

By Paula H |

5 of us had dinner recently. The special (pork) was very small placed over a bed of greens. Good but too small a portion. One vegetarian option is on the menu and to say to least It looked like a plate of bird seed. This restaurant is grossly underrated. We Will not be returning.

Delightful

By Judy G |

We had a beautiful evening in the garden. Nice dinner . Was very busy and the waitress didn’t get to us very quickly, seemed like she just forgot us, (this service rating in the middle) but the manager stepped in and treated us extremely well making the evening as it should be, delightful. Waitress told us pasta dish was very small....warning, not small, but certainly delicious. Had a great fish course, sea bass, was excellent.

Great dinner in the city !

Delicious food & great service . We love it every time! We have been here many times. The salmon & the cheese plate were so good!

Dinner out of this world!

By Nellie McG |

Whether you are visiting Philadelphia or live in the area, put Talula's Garden on your list of MUST-experience restaurants. Not only is the food fresh and original in its presentation, but also the staff is knowledgeable without being pretentious, the vibe of the restaurant is positive and fun, and you will not be disappointed. Definitely make room for one of the cheese plates---the offerings are delicious and the cheesemongers make it memorable. Terrific restaurant!

Best roasted potatos ever!

By bobbyripe |

Beautiful place. Went for brunch. Food was great although my eggs could have been warmer. Service was good and friendly but as the place filled up—our reservation was at opening time—our waitress disappeared. However, really enjoyed it and would visit again.

Private Dinner

By ed |

We had a dinner for 14 in their private room. Food was excellent….Setting was perfect for our group….Service was very professional and very friendly. We had a great time.

Very good food, service

By gertrude1099 |

My husband and I made a last minute reservation. The only option on the app was outdoor seating. When we got there, outdoor seating looked comfortable even on a chilly fall evening but we were surprised to be offered the option of indoor seating which we accepted. The food was excellent, arrived quickly, and the service was very good. I also appreciated that the noise level wasn't bad. We'll gladly come back next time we're in town.

Charm and Delicious Food!

By TAsaro |

My wife and I sat outside in the garden. It was charming and really added to the experience. My wife and I split the tuna tartare - so much flavor! One of the best tuna tartare s we’ve ever had. My wife had the pork belly and I had the Branzino. My wife was full but had to finish the pork belly- it was so good. I did steam a few bites of it as well. My branzino was also excellent. The side of green beans was just okay - our only relative disappointment. We finished the meal sharing the summer sweet corn creme brûlée. First, the top layer was perfection. The sweet corn cream was phenomenal. One of the best crème brûlées I’ve ever had. We highly recommend and sit in the garden (unless the weather is not to your liking).

Amazing Food!!!!

Hubby and I had dinner there. The ambience was amazing!!!! The food was amazing!!!! The service was amazing!!!! We had the short ribs and the ricotta ravioli. It was great!!!! Would definitely eat there again.

Reservation Size Limiting

By Meowlovenann |

The size of reservations permitted is limiting. Never can celebrate an event with others or go out with two other couples. Very disappointing structure/rules.

Excellent Food, Location, Ended A Little Weak

By Don Hummer Jr |

We came here at a recommendation from one of our work associates. Overall the dining experience was a 9 out of 10. The server (at the beginning) was very attentive, gave great suggestions, friendly. The food was evenly paced and was quite good; we had three different plates and all three looked/tasted good. The only reason why it's not a 5-star is that after we paid our bill, the server never stopped over, looked our direction, came over just to check on us. I felt like, "well, I got my tip, no reason to pay any more attention to them", which is disappointing. Sounds a little petty given the actual dinner experience was very good, but it just felt "icky" for some reason and I'm still thinking about it. Even if he stopped by once just to see if we needed anything would have changed the entire dynamics. Regardless of that fact, very good food, good location, good overall experience.

Beautiful

By stacey N |

Friends dinner, beautiful atmosphere. We had reservations for inside but the wait for outside was short so we decided to dine there instead. So glad we did, it was so cute and quaint. Food was excellent. We had a miscommunication with staff and they more than made up for it. They brought us every item from the dessert menu. Highly recommend.

Very satisfying and lovely dinner!

By Michael |

Everything was done well. Service was very good and we were very pleased. Only issue was because we were seated in the bar and people were standing waiting right next to our table. I felt our space was less than comfortable.

Beautiful restaurant

By 2TravelLuvers |

I understand why Food and Wine listed Talula's as one of the 50 most romantic restaurants in the U.S. The ambiance is great. Steven, our server, was really good....personable and attentive. My wife had the Sunday cheese plate. Someone from the kitchen brought it out and gave a thorough explanation of every item on the plate. I had the local brunch, which consisted of cheddar scrambled eggs, smoked bacon, fried potatoes, homemade English muffins, and honey butter. We very much enjoyed our brunch.

Much ado about nothind

By carmelina b |

Nice place in a fine setting, but crowdy and noisy . Salads and appetizers were excellent , but the main course was very rough and confused , certainly pre- cooked . It didn’t worth the price .

Can’t wait to return!!

By Beth G |

Everything about Talula’s Garden is delightful - the ambience, decor, food and service. We ate dinner here for the first time with another couple, and we all raved about our choices, starting with the scrumptious cheddar-chive biscuits. We each ordered a different appetizer-mushroom soup,Caesar salad, beet salad, tuna tartare-and loved every bite. The same can be said about the various entrees we ordered - salmon, pork, lamb, ravioli. Can’t wait to return to Talula’s!

Brunch

By KRod |

This was our second time at Talula’s but the first time we’ve been there for brunch. It did not disappoint! The food was excellent. I highly recommend going there for brunch or dinner. Try the French Toast Sticks ... yum!

First rate food, great ambience near Rittenhouse

By GPToak |

This restaurant has great reviews already and I can see why. A great atmosphere and good food and wine options. I tried the vegetarian curry. It featured sweet potatoes and broccoli, cauliflower, and was described as having a sauce but it was more like a hash sitting on a sauce. It tasted fantastic but was not as expected! The leftovers made for a great breakfast hash after adding an egg. My friend had some appetizers that included meatballs she loved. We’d definitely return. Reservations are wise, it filled up quickly.

Fantastic, creative food

By Catherine L |

We had a great time in thé garden on a beautiful, warm night. Loved my maple Manhattan! The menu was perfect for fall with carrot-ginger soup, cheddar chive biscuits, and three amazing entrees. Highly recommend.

Innovative take on cocktails and food

By Kathryn G |

I had visited Talula's Garden back in 2014, so when my husband and I went to Philadelphia for a long weekend, I wanted to go back. I'm glad we did. The cocktails were inventive and the flavors were well-balanced. The food was just as good as I remembered it. Know that the "beginnings" are large portions - enough for two, or to have as an entree. But whatever you order, make sure you get the chive-cheddar biscuits! Service was attentive but not annoying.
