This is the kind of place you’d wish to have in your neighborhood. Professional and sincere service and an extensive menu. BYOB with a nice wine shop next door if you forget. Inside is pleasantly dark with drippy candles on the tables. Really reminiscent of our meals in Buenos Aires.

This cozy steak house is unassuming and doesn't get a lot of publicity - and as a former local, that's why we liked it so much. Tango Sur is the steak house for Chicagoans. Gibsons, Chicago Chop House, etc. get a lot of publicity and tourists, who are willing to shell out $50-100 per plate easily to dine at those establishments. Tango Sur is very different. It's cozy, candle-lit atmosphere and small outdoor seating space makes you feel quite at home. There aren't stories of mobsters or sports super stars eating here like at those other places. Instead, it relies on large portions of meat and their amazing chimichurri and empanadas, all available at very reasonable prices. Tango Sur is by far my favorite steak house in Chicago.

The food here is amazing. The service is pretty great too. I love the BYOB factor too. The only thing which did not work out well was the wait! It could take over an hour on weekends to get a table. In the past, they would let you go to a waiting room in the back and get your drink on.However, recently, they keep saying they are too busy in the back too and that you should wait at a bar down the street. This makes me think they own the bar too and and trying to make a few dollars on the waiting customers too. They lost one star because of this new policy.

First time visit. Most of us had their signature El Filet or bone-in ribeye. Both very good. Slight edge to the filet (two small filets per plate could be shared). The seafood salad too fishy for my taste, and some pickled pieces. Excellent service. Birthday flan very good. Outstanding value.

Ambiance: 4/5 Candle lit dinner was great but the restaurant was so loud. Steak: 3/5 Ribeye was tasty but flavorless. The filet mignon wasn’t very tender and was flavorless. The Chimichurri sauce was tasty. Service: 4/5 Staff seemed nice. No issues or complaints. They don’t serve wine or beer so while you bringing your own is interesting, it’s also a hassle.

Looking for a good dining option close to the Mercury Theater, we gave Tango Sur a try. The steaks were huge and tasty and very reasonable priced. The service was excellent and we left with enough left over for a second meal at home. Alcohol is BYOB, so bring your paper bag if you wish to imbibe. Also, medium rare is more rare than medium. Not a problem for this carnivore, but take note that their medium is probably plenty pink inside. YUM

In a very nice ambience in Chicago on Southport avenue, a nice evening of great Argentinian steaks, lovely parrillada with chorizo, short ribs and morcilla. Size of the parrillada for one and two is more than expected, and the empanadas were also great as an appetizer. The breaded beef was also very nicely prepared and the churrasco and the chicken options were excellent. The food overall magnificent and if you like beef this is a great place and reasonable prices in a great location. Highly, recommended.

Really fun place to take our niece for dinner but I wished that I knew to bring our own beer or wine. That is not allowed in Michigan. Service was great but we didn't feel rushed. We all had steaks and argued about whose was the best.

A bit too busy and loud for my taste. Good menu and portion size for meat lover. But for me , a bit too much meat and boring.

I lived in Salta for a while, traveled to many parts and had some awesome food. I was excited to have a say on Chicago, beautiful city and gorgeous day. I was looking forward to ending the day with a delicious Argentine dinner. Empanada ,fried, not baked ( so I'm spoiled ), yummy ensalada russa, and palmitas con Jamon crudo ( que rico). Then the dissapointment, which should have been the highlight : parrilla con chinchulin - the chinchulin were over cooked and all the rest, morcilla, Lomo. Mollejas, chorizo - were over brined, and generally inedible. QUE TRISTESA :(

I'm a vegetarian and despite the restaurant being famous for it's meat you can always find delicious options for vegetarians. My husband loves the "el fillet" and we drive about 45 min every couple of months to indulge. The dessert is amazing as well :-)

I eat here every time I go to Chicago. The steaks are fantastic, the food is super authentic. It is BYOB so bring some malbec wine or beer to go with your food. And save room for dessert too.

The food, the ambiance, the service, and the staff are simply the best. My wife and I have dined at the finest "traditional steak houses" in Chicago and they simply cannot compare to the Tango Sur experience!! My wife and I

Went for dinner with a friend. Great place. Food is delicious. very authentic. byob definitely will go back. love it1

We were going to the theater down the street from this restaurant, so Tango Sur was convenient and we decided to try it for our pre theater dinner. Tango Sur is a BYOB and they are very happy to open and serve your bottle(s) of wine. They also sell setups for those requiring harder beverages. On to the food and the service, first the service was exceptional. The only hiccup with the service was that English was not the first language of the wait staff making descriptions of what was on the plates a slightly confusing, but not a problem. They took care of any and all of our quirky requests for omitting some ingredients and substituting others. The food, come hungry! The portions at Tango Sur are ample. We each ordered an appetizer, each could easily have served 2 or more, do plan to share the appetizers. Not only ample but delicious and this was true of the four we ordered. By the way, their bread is good too and it comes with the entree. For dinner I ordered the filet magnon that the menu said serves two which we did share. Well, it could have served all four of us and there may still have been some left for a doggie bag. The filet arrived SMOTHERED in mushrooms and a delicious sauce. Others ordered the pork chop and the chicken breast, the menu intended these both to be for one, but again they could have been shared, not by the entire table, but for 2 would have been no problem. All were expertly prepared. (We had steak with eggs for breakfast the following morning and another filet dinner for 2 a couple of nights later from our doggie bag just needing to add a salad) Inside is rather noisy with mostly hard surfaces for the sound to bounce around on, so if you would prefer a quieter meal, ask for an outside table which are covered/enclosed for bad weather.

Hole in a. Wall restaurant in lake view. Although the steaks were not served in the traditional Parilla , the place was able to capture the flavor of Argentina . Steak was priced right with good quality cut. The steak was cooked in such a way that the quality of the meat shined through .

Incredible Argentine steakhouse in Chicago. We had a group of 10 - we needed reservations - and were given a relatively fixed menu of empanadas, salads, and our choice of steaks. Everything was fantastic; we recommend the ribeye, filet, and the chorizo. It doesn’t have a liquor license but you can get wine from a nice shop a few doors down.

We stopped in for dinner prior to a concert at Wrigley. The food was delicious. It is a very fun atmosphere without being so loud that you can't talk. Service was very friendly. It is BYOB for alcohol, but there is a wine store in the same block. Dinner for our family of four (teenagers, not little ones, was very reasonable.

We flew from England to Chicago to meet friends who took us to this AMAZING restaurant. From going in, to coming the atmosphere and vibe was brilliant. The staff are excellent, the food was incredible. Nothing was a problem....take your own drink cuts your bill by half by not getting ripped off. been to Chicago many times, eaten at many restaurants but this one is TOPS. well done to all the staff for making it a night to remember. Thank you

Tango Sur is a hidden gem located on the North Side of Chicago. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. Great quality and quantity for your dollar. Overall the food is amazing! I recommend the Filet, Provoleta and Shrimp cooked in the tomato garlic white wine sauce. This restaurant is a must.

We went here with a group of 11 women for a birthday. For large parties they take reservations. One car load was late which was bad because we were rushed through the entire meal. I disliked more than I liked at this restaurant. It was so dark!!! I mean you cannot see what you are eating dark. Several of us ordered filet mignon. They arrived all at the same time and we all got the same steak. I am not sure we all requested the same preparation. My steak was raw! We were being so rushed that I was not going to send it back so I ate the edges only. The portion was huge (two 7 oz steaks) and I split with a friend. There is a $7 fee to split for the extra salad. Not a problem until the salad came which was lettuce, white onion raw, and two tomato slices. They bring oil and vinegar so no choice of dressing you do it yourself. My friend ordered the chicken and loved it. BYOB is nice but bring your own opener as well. It is hard to get waiters to the table to open something. When we left the crowed to get in was 20 people deep. Why? I cannot tell you. Huge portions? I would rather Pay more for food done well or at least felt like I had the time to send it back to cook more. Outside seating would be better in summer. You can see the food.

Tango Sur is very specialized in Argentinian meat, with excellent meals. That is a BYOB restaurant. So, grab your beverage and try a very good meat.

These guys have great food but the portions are stunning. Could not finish half of meal and i was hungry. Very fast and courteous staff

Nice atmosphere but definitely pretty noisy for conversation. BYOB a very nice feature. Loved the appetizers - empanadas, Eggplant parm. All of us had steaks - the petit filet mignon was the best of the meals but really huge portion. I had the Vesuvius steak - not as tender as it could have been. We all left over at least half our steak. All in all, a nice experience. Service was good.

I was really surprised by the quality and prep of the steaks here, very good quality and grilled to perfection. Everything was very fresh. The service by Erica, was friendly and professional. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. Recommended.

Was able to sit outside at Tango Sur. Empanadas were awesome, as always. Had a little of their hot eggplant dish. Not normally one for such a dish, but it was quite tasty. And then the steaks (we had two different kinds) were excellent. We brought our own adult beverages as they allow and had a great meal. Service was attentive and friendly. Definitely worth a look, especially if you have a great bottle of cab crying to be opened.

Made reservations, month in advance for dinner party, the number kept growing for my guests. They were quite accommodating. They had another party coming in behind us, but instead of rushing us (the kitchen was slammed) they took our orders attempted to turn over as fast as possible. Only concern, for 19 people, should of had 2 servers. Even with that, our server remained calm and focused. It was a fun night to remember.

Loved this place - somewhat tight quarters, but the food was fantastic. We went for steaks and were not disappointed. Also had the Matambre as an appetizer, which was very good. Excellent wait staff, including our waiter who gave us lots of tips for our upcoming trip to South America. BYOB so bring your favorite beverage(s). Also a little dark, so have your phone light ready!

Went before a Cubs game, and this is only about a 0.5 mile or so from Wrigley so its away from the pregame crazy but only a short walk away. We arrived when they opened at 5pm and were able to sit outside on a nice evening. It is BYOB but there is a wine shop a few doors South of the restaurant. We started with empanadas, the corn and cheese and the beef. Both were good but not great. It came with a chimichurri sauce. I actually thought the chimichurri could use some or more red wine vinegar to give it some acid for balance. We received a simple salad before the entree, lettuce, tomato, onion. We had both ordered the Lomo but we had intended to order the Lomo Relleno. This was totally our oversight. We didn't realize there was both Lomo and Lomo Relleno and we did say we wanted Lomo. We asked the server and he told us there were 2 different things and then we admitted that it was us that ordered wrong. The Lomo is a filet steak comes with mashed potatoes, chimichurri. The steak was cooked perfect, maybe a little closer to rare than med-rare (ordered) but not a problem for us and had good flavor which is sometimes lacking with filet. The potatoes were on the creamy side and had proper seasoning. The Lomo Relleno would be stuffed with ham and chimichurr and described on the menu. We had 2 bottles of wine that we had brought. The wine glasses provided are small but casual which goes with the overall feel of the restaurant. There was a definite fruit fly problem while we were sitting outside. Some found there way into our wine glasses. They disappeared once the sun went down. I love dulche de leche which is prevalent on the dessert menu. I had what was referred to have a waffle cake which was layered with dulche. It was i little dry and not my favorite dulche dessert. This was just average for me. The service was on top of things all night. Overall, it was a good meal with some flaws but nothing overall significant.

Wow... Just wow... First time experience to a BYOB restaurant and this will be tough to match let alone beat! Two words for you... Meat-Coma! YOLO

Tango Sur is a small neighborhood restaurant with a friendly staff and excellent food, especially if you have a hankering for red meat. I had the filet mignon which was outstanding and finished with the flan, which was also excellent! My wife and I had early dinner at 4:45pm on a Saturday, which was lucky because the restaurant was full by 5:30pm. Be sure to get there early on the weekend!

The food here is topnotch. Go early because there is a wait. I loved the empanadas and had the salmon as an entree and flan for dessert. So incredibly good! BYOB. This place is a real jewel.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE IN CHICAGO!!! With nobody waiting the person at the door said it might be 1 1/2 hr wait but we could sit outside in the cold and eat. We saw several open tables, no line, and no waiter came after 15 min. We told the door person this and his response was “Well you can leave if you want” It was as if he wanted everyone to leave, not come in. The level of rudeness was truly remarkable, go somewhere else please!

We had dinner here last night with some friends. We've lived nearby for a few years, and had always been meaning to go. Definitely lived up to the expectation! We were treated very well, the atmosphere felt authentic, and we had a relaxed and lively evening. This is not a place to go for speedy service, but a place to make a night of. I'm a vegetarian, but there was an amazing eggplant dish. We will be back soon!

Average restaurant with average service. The meat that I ordered was under cooked and from that the whole experience was not positive.

Amazing food and great service. Highly recommend!!! The portions are big and I love the fact that they are BYOB.

We ate here on a Saturday night with our family of 7. We had reservations for 7:00 and had to wait 15 minutes. We were told the delay was because they couldn’t reach us when they called a few hours earlier to confirm - so watch your phone if you have a reservation. Still, not bad for a group on a Saturday night in Chicago at a very popular restaurant. We ordered a variety of empanadas (great) and the provoleta (good). Our group had the filet, pork chop and chicken and everyone really liked their food. The dinner salads were uninspired. The prices are reasonable and we loved the BYOB. The restaurant is small, loud and crowded. The atmosphere is fun, but you’re going to feel the squeeze.

Here for a double date on a Saturday night. Place was packed, as always. Food was great, candle lit dinner (yep, live candles on each table). Had people in from out of town (Orlando) and they said they wish they ("had places like this in FL). I would too if i were them haha. Service was good, especially when factoring in how busy it was. Tango Sur is BYOB, which is great as it allows you to bring your own favorite wine while keeping the tab from "getting out of control". A warm summer night calls for a bottle of Rose and a bottle of Argentinian Malbec.

Had a great meal. The fillet minion was large enough for both of us and we talked for several hours. The staff was very gracious to us and I tipped accordingly since I was there so long 50%

This place was pretty much great until the last 5 minutes. The reason it was great was because it is BYOB and the food is good. The reason it wasn't good towards the end of our dinner was because after an hour and 15 min of sitting at the table, my friend and I were pretty much told to get up and leave, even though we still had some wine left. We were told people had been waiting for a table for 45 min. Tengo Sur, you should probably space your reservations out a bit more. Sitting down for dinner for an hour and 15 minutes is not unreasonable at all. Just wanted to have a conversation and celebrate a birthday. I want to come back, but really left dinner on a sour note.

Great food and great atmosphere! The empanadas and the hot plate of provolone Cheese were delicious appetizers for our group! We finished with the variety of steaks and sausages to share! Yummy!

My husband loved this restaurant. I didn't appreciate the setup. It feels a little crowded. But its very trendy. The food was good, different and affordable.

A great place for steaks near Wrigley field. A little disorganized as they do. Ot take reservations for parties less than 6. Steaks with a lot of flavor and spices accompanied with their chimichurri sauce. Melon with proscuitto was also very good. Byob so bring a bottle of wine for dinner. Would definitely go back again!

Phenomenal food at a great price. Could easily be $100 per plate, but is half that or less. Hidden gem near Wrigley. Spinach mashed potatoes are unreal along with the empanadas & the steaks!

Service: HORRIBLE!!!! From beginning to end. Enough said. Food: I've had better. I mean the food is somewhat bland and the meat is not correctly cooked. It's either to over cooked or under cooked. Not really sure why they ask how you want it if they cook it however they want. Atmosphere: dim and very noisy. They place is extremely small where your practically sitting on top of each other. Overall experience: been there and done that. And never again. There are way better Argentinian places that are more spacious, have better food for less and have fenomenal Service

I’m surprised by how many BYO places in Chicago. Went their with our adult daughters. Very friendly and great food at reasonable prices. Steak is the thing here and most were about $28-30,so very reasonable. I had the ribeye with Chimichurri sauce. I was a wimp and got the sauce on the side, but it was to die for and ate it all. My wife had shrimp which were delicious too. The melon and prosciutto was a nice start. Go there. Call at 4 for a reservation.

This was our fourth visit and again we were not disappointed. Extremely friendly staff serving high quality food. The filet mignon was cooked to perfection (for $29 you get two) perfect for sharing. It's our favorite eatery especially after a Cub game

Maybe I was feeling a little cheap. My husband wanted to go to one of the fancy Chicago steakhouses, i just didnt want to drop two hundred ++ on dinner. We were in the Wrigley field area and i trusted the reviews on trip advisor raving about this place. The service was terrific and the ambiance a little dark but very nice. I am hard pressed to say as much about the food. Maybe we ordered poorly. Appetizers black sausage and chorizo were good. The cold veal appetizer fair and over priced for what it was. Our friend ordered the shrimp. Only 4 shrimp and nothing to write home about. My husband had the filet. It was very tough, really not at all what you would expect from a filet. He commented that it was the toughest filet he's ever had. He was really dissapointed. ( and mad at me for picking this place instead of the Chicago steakhouse he wanted) I ordered the skirt steak. It was the best of the three meals with a nice flavor but even that was tough. We may have hit them on a bad night or just unlucky with the cuts tonight but this was our only dinner out in Chicago and I am afraid to say out loud, my husband was right.

We tried this place on a Saturday night without reservations... Wrong! The place was packed with 2 hours waiting. We made our reservations by phone on Sunday noon. We were a group of 5 to celebrate a friend's birthday. Before we arrive, we bought a couple of bottles of wine because it's a BYOB place. The host took us to our table and again, the place was parked! Our waiter rapidly came with the corkscrew, the glasses and bread, which btw was amazing! We ordered the Chorizos, amazing! As main course I ordered the filet mignon and I have to confess that for 29 bucks, this filet was the best mignon I have ever tried (and I've been in Argentina). The mignon were two filets, perfectly cooked (medium) and very tasteful. My friends ordered Bife de Chorizo and Churrasco: both tasteful and perfectly cooked. For dessert we ordered the flan with dulce de leche: yummy!!!! I highly recommend this place!!!

Had reservations at 3. I think the reason its so dark it might not be too clean. Service was awful. Manager very rude and insulted my intelligence. Lastly the food had a lot to be desired. Cuts were very tough and no flavor. Friends said that many years ago it used to be good. Also the restroom had water all over the floor. Will never go there again. I don't recommend this place.

It isn't exactly Argentina, but in the City of broad Shoulders it's my favorite joint if I do have to eat steak. Prices a bit high, but not compared to the other steakhouses in this area. Busy for a reason; the bifes there are pretty divine.

This is my favorite restaurant in the city. Even with a wait for tables, I am always happy I came. Quality of food and overall experience.

4 if us went last night. My wife and i ordered the mixed grill for 2. The steaks were barely edible and were so tough you couldn't cut them. Very disappointing. They should also introduce the chef to salt since everything was bland and unseasoned.

Nice warm ambiance. Pleasant service. Great food made just right. Desserts to die for. Even the best coffee. If you want to have an overall excellent dining experience, you want to go to Tango Sur.

I feared that we were amongst the oldest who dined here on a Saturday. Although we arrived at 6:30pm we still had an over an 75 mins to wait, we tried to book, but weren't accepted, although other parties, smaller than our four, did seem to walk straigh in. What we didn’t know, until we sat down, is that the restaurant doesn’t have a liquor license so it is bring your own. Fortunately, the next door café does a great sideline in off sales of wine and beer at a very reasonable price. The food is Argentinian, and that equates to steak. Be warned that rare is exactly what is says, slightly warm and very rare. The food was fine, not wowable, and I suspect that because was served in almost total darkness – just one candle illuminating the table – meant we couldn’t really see clearly what culinary delight was being served.

Tango Sur was a nice surprise, suggested by a friend who lives in Chicago. It's small and quaint, and has an outdoor seating area, which was full when we were there. We sat inside. Warning: it's very dark inside. Good service. The empanadas were a disappointment but the t-bone steaks were fabulous.

Every special occasion I come here. Every birthday, anniversary, or even a craving suffices enough reason to come. I say special occasion because it is pricey but SO worth it. Plus, I've never finished a meal here because the portions are very generous and so filling.. so you have lunch for tomorrow too! It's definitely worth the price. You will definitely want to make a reservation so I recommend that. BYOB so bring your favortie beer or wine! They will chill it for you and open wine for you too. It does get a little dark in there but it's not destructive. Best meat ever and the oil sauce they give with it is to die for!!!

So so disappointed this evening. This is actually one of our favorite places since moving to Chicago. We like to arrive as soon as they open as it’s quiet and we can be in and out before the rush. Tonight the waitstaff we overbearing, picking up our plates before we had even finished. I moved the usual brown paper covering as our two person meal was a bit messy and just wanted a clean surface for our dessert. The staff ran over and started clearing our table just to put another brown paper covering on our table. It was embarrassing as he was putting our candle, plates etc on another’s table. I wanted to crawl under a table. I didn’t even want the dessert we ordered with our cappuccinos. We won’t be back again for a very long time. It’s a shame as we had planned to bring our friends and relatives there next week for a Christmas dinner.

We were visiting our daughter in Chicago and she took us to this restaurant where she'd eaten before. We liked the abiance, charming, small, busy. The server was knowledgeable and friendly. The food was excellent! We had the filet and spinach mashed potatoes!! We were in heaven. Although the meat was a little salty, we would definately go back.

I've been here three times, and each time I left beyond full. The steaks are HUGE, but they are of the highest quality Argentinian beef imaginable. But that's not all! You have to save room for the incredible empanadas and the delectable flan too! Some of the best food in Chicago, and great service as well. Tango Sur doesn't take reservations, but if you show up early enough you can put your name down and then go get a drink while you wait. Also, another plus is that it's BYOB, so drinks are much cheaper. One of my absolute favorite restaurants!

Argentinian restaurant featuring steak. The steak was ok, but less than expected.. but the empanadas ( appetizer )are to die for. Next time I'm skipping the entree and ordering a number of empanadas, beef, chicken, ham and cheese, spinach, and a special shout out to the corn. They are fried or baked. Very friendly service.

Slightly concerned about some reviews, but went early(7.15) on a Monday evening, plenty of room although it did fill up pretty soon...Service and attention were excellent could not have been more attentive- had filet steak and sirloin, both were tasty and cooked as we wanted - highly recommended! BYOB was a bonus

Is BYOB so bring your favorite wine and have the best dinner for a fraction of what you would othewise pay. The portions are generous and the price is very fair. I highly recommend the Lomo!

Went here last night for the second time. There was a long wait, but eventually got seated at a nice outdoor table. Ordered the chicken, beef, and spinach/cheese empanadas to start. Beef were a little salty. Spinach/cheese were a favorite. Overall our first visit was better. Last night was a little salty.

When we first arrived the restaurant was fairly empty and conversation was kind of strange because of how close the tables are together. Once the place filled up it was easy to talk without feeling like everyone could hear you. The food was absolutely amazing. I had been recommended to go there and was not disappointed. The potions were huge.

This is a fantastic place to meet old friends. Alas the wait was quite long (so we decamped to a nearby bar) and handily when our table was ready we could BYO from the store next door. We all chose sirloin steak, generous portions, really tasty, loved the Vesuvio potatoes too

The food at this restaurant was excellent, but it is a meat-eaters heaven. The empanadas are excellent! My daugher and I shared the Lomo Relleno with chimichurri sauce. It was incredible! This was enough for 3-4 people so we had a lot of leftovers which heated up well the next day for another meal for two people. This is a BYOB and I recommend reservations, it is not a big place. Will definitely come back.

We met our daughter for dinner at 7:00--she arrived early because they do not accept reservations. We were promptly seated and my daughter decided to leave and go buy a bottle of wine down the street because Tango is a BYOB establishment with no corkage fee. In her absence, I ordered a few empanadas for appetizers and was quite pleased. Next we enjoyed a great salad with large sliced tomatoes and onions topped with oil and vinegar--very tasty. Lastly, I had the ribeye and the ladies had El Filets. We ordered everything medium despite normally ordering medium rare--they were done perfectly. My ribeye had exceptional flavors. Our waiter treated us to a shared carmel appetizer--so good. When the bill arrived, I was shocked at how inexpensive the entire meal was--a tremendous value! We will return---!

We love dining here but have decided to never go on a weekend again. delicious meals, to be sure. But we've waited for tables and had the seater ignore us and seat others before us. Wait staff is so-so, bus boys have been awesome. No issues on weekday visits, so we'll stick to those!

Tango Sur is the place we always go for steak and empanadas when we are in Chicago. Is an argentine restaurant. Is a byob, place, which make this place even more attractive. Last time we had the "bife angosto with chimichurrii, which is a delicious garlic and herbs sauce. The price has gone up a bit, but is still good for a Chicago steak house. We like their appetizers too, empanadas, matambre and Russian salad.

We (older married couple) had a celebration dinner at Tango Sur the other night. It was our third or fourth time there in a two-year period. The meat, as always, was just PERFECT. I had vacio, and my husband strip steak. Both steaks were cooked just to the temperature we had requested. Our waiter, Pablo, couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. Normally, I wouldn't mention sides since you'd expect the place to be all about the meat. Nonetheless, I have to praise the baked sweet potatoes (camotes) and the gorgeous grilled asparagus. The prices were very fair. You're able to bring your own wine. I've spent a decent amount of time in Argentina over the past 20 years, and can say that Tango Sur lives up to the standard (which is oh-so-high) of wonderful, flavorful food and ambience. I also saw people at other table ordering profoundly "un"-Argentine food, but I never saw the waiters or other staff sniggering or making any comments (and I speak Spanish like English). They were kind to everyone, even to a gentleman who wanted a glass of milk! (Something beyond the pale for an Argentine meal.) So very professional, and so very fun. I wish we were younger, and we'd go there every week!

The food and ambiance are outstanding..My only beef that that they don't take reservations Fri & Sat or otherwise I would have given them 5 stars.

All round pleasant Argentine culinary experience including well seasoned and cooked meat dishes, empanadas and that delicious dessert flan (egg based). Service was brisk, prices a little on the high side. Have been to better Argentine restaurants around the world, but this one is just OK.

Such amazing food but forgo the weekend crowds and enjoy the empanadas and steak when it's not so jammed. BYOB makes this the bomb! It's already been discovered!

Very romantic date location, and also a fun place to come with friends with a bunch of BYOB supplies. Tables can be right up next to each other, which usually bothers me, but here it didn't so much probably due to dim lighting, candle lit tables, and overall noisiness of the restaurant with music etc. obscuring nearby conversation. The portions here are downright massive even for a guy with a huge appetite. On top of that the food is delicious and incredibly inexpensive for what you get. I would rate this as the best bang for your buck restaurant in Chicago, especially if taking advantage of BYOB. No reservations so be prepared to wait. Fortunately Southport has plenty of spots to kill time while waiting.

Visited this place a few years ago, but I still remember it as a great meal. It was definitely very busy. Bone in ribeye, spinach mashed potatoes, chimichurri. Yes, it was all pretty tasty.

This is the third or fourth time I've eaten here. Great ambiance, and the service was great, too. We started off with the empanadas, and I highly recommend them. They are a great way to stat off your meal. We followed it up with a couple of their steaks to share among the table. Very very tasty, well prepared, and great sauces. It's BYOB, so recommend that you prepare by bringing a tasty wine or two. I'll definitely go back. Repeatedly.

I 've been there twice with friends, so I had the chance to try different plates. Loved the empanadas (appetizer size assorted pies), eggplant appetizer, Fillet Mignon and Mixed Grill (the meat is so good)! The ambience is great and the music really makes you wanna get up and dance. The staff is very well trained, too. Our server Max was very attentive and helpful. The menu is quite wide. Prices are high, but the taste is definitely gonna make you feel it was worth the money.

We went here with a group for a special occasion , as we had heard good things about this restaurant . Unfortunately , the good things we heard led us to have much higher expectations The wait for a table was long . Once we were seated , the room was a bit stuffy and hot. Service was on the slow side . This restaurant is supposed to specialize in steaks . However , the filet was very tough , and very difficult to cut. Usually filet anywhere can be cut with a butter knife . Here, a sharp blade had challenges in getting through the filet . Others at the table had the same issue . The prices were reasonable , however with the wait and toughness of the meat we will not return

Great BYOB steak house, great atmosphere good food, kinda dark but comfy enough.Bring as many bottles you want no fees.Always super busy but it worth it.

I am so glad we chose (and were able to get into) Tango Sur last Saturday night for a wonderful evening and great food. My group of four old college buddies shared a melted cheese appetizer that was like eating the top of a pizza - it was just awesome. The prosciutto and melon appetizer was gigantic and equally yummy. I had the filet mignon with spinach mashed potatoes - the steak was cooked perfectly and the potatoes were creamy and delicious. A small side salad was served in there somewhere too. Everything we ate was about as good as it could be, and for $40 each before tip was an unbeatable bargain. We bought two bottles of Argentinian Cabernet at the associated place right next door, since Tango Sur is wonderfully BYOB. Service was pretty good and the place is pretty loud, crowded, and almost ridiculously dark (us old guys had to use our phones to read the menus). But it was convivial and fun - we got to know the people sitting at the table next to us and even shared food between tables, so if you’re not looking for that kind of closeness you might want to try somewhere else. But for a fun evening of great food at a great price you cannot go wrong with Tango Sur. Recommended wholeheartedly.

This place is always busy, so if you don't have a reservation, expect to wait at least a half hour. Inside the atmosphere is very vibrant, and the food, albeit a lot of food, is excellent. It's bring your own beer.

My girlfriend and I decided to eat somewhere close to the Music Box theater. Well after looking at the reviews of near by restaurants we decided to try Tango Sur. The food was prepared differently than usual American style with a very pleasurable unique flavor. However the noise and the crowd made for an extremely unromantic evening. Also it is only fair to say it was New Years Eve night. We will be trying again on a less popular evening.

Argentinean food. Brought our own wine--no corking fee.We arrived 6:00 PM on a Saturday and too late for outdoor seat. Inside seating is nice, but a little loud. Waiter recommendation was fillet mignon which was excellent, but could have ordered just one for two of us as was two ~5 ounce fillets.

An absolute Gem. Do not let the Nondescript exterior fool you. This restaurant will delight you at every turn. Super attentive staff. (Other servers keep an attentive eye on you as well) Incredible food-both taste and quality. We had the eggplant appetizer (it was on special) and it alone, would've been worth the trip. We also had the Vacio, the Bife De Chorizo and the Medio Pollo al Limon. Hot, nailed the temperatures, incredible flavors-out front, but not too much. Top that off with a quiet/cozy atmosphere (candlelit tables), white tablecloths, and you've got one of the best restaurants in that area. Ignore the one-off reviews. Yelp, Google and TA all get them right. This one's worth a trip. We'll be back.

Tango Sur is an Argentine steakhouse with decent (but not outstanding) quality meat. Some of the cuts in our large group were more fatty than they should be. But the meat was well flavored and cooked as ordered. Empanadas were very good appetizers. Salad okay, not special. Flan for dessert was quite ordinary. The biggest problem was noise. Hard parallel surfaces bounce sound around without absorbing any of it. To make matters worse they add music through speakers, forcing people to speak louder. It was painful, and most in our group said they would not be back for a repeat experience.

This restaurant was on my list of places to eat for a while ago. We had a reservation when we made it to the restaurant. A waiter gave us a table pretty fast. The waiter, who, I believe did not introduce himself, asked us if we wanted something to drink as usual. So far, everything was fine until he served us the bread. The waiter realized we were not given plates after several minutes later. The same waiter took us the order and asked if we had questions. For a few seconds, It seemed the waiter did not feel comfortable answering my questions regarding the food and preparation. Food came pretty on time. We did not have to wait so long. I have to mention food tasted good, and are big portions. We ordered appetizers: Morcilla, Ensalada russa, Empanada de pollo, Berenjena, and for the entree: Lomo, Milanese a la napolitana, Pechuga de pollo. I should emphasize the waiter knew we were there celebrating a birthday. He came with a portion of caramel flan, and a candle, and wished Happy Birthday. After this moment, the bill was brought after 30 minutes we were done on the table. Even though, food was good and the waiter tried his best. The restaurant overall can be very loud, they have many tables and not enough waiters to assist or that is the impression we had. Not to mention their price can be high. I would give a second try.

good food, excellent wine from next door for an affordable price! ........................................I will definitely go there again when I am back in Chcago and I will recommend to all my friends!

Casual dining with incredibly terrific food. Pasta, steak, salmon were all superb. Even so, we will never return to this restaurant. We had a reservation and had to wait just a little bit for a table on a very crowded Wednesday night. The four of us were seated on the patio with a heater keeping us warm. We ordered beef empanadas from our waiter for our appetizer. In the meantime, we opened our two bottles of wine we had brought (BYOB). We observed other tables around us (people who were seated after we were) receive their food and leave. We had to flag down our waiter to ask him what had happened with our order. He said he had made a mistake. An hour and a half after we put in our order our main course arrived. We never received our appetizer, but nor were we charged for one. The waiter tried to make amends by bringing the four of us a single serving of flan. Parking in that part of town is horrendous. There is no valet parking. Never again.

My hubby and I looove this place!! Almost every date night we end up coming back! Whenever we go elsewhere, we wish we just went to Tango Sur. Haha we always end up spending almost 2 hours here just enjoying the atmosphere and each other. Be warned there WILL be a long wait!! So come early and get your name on the list. There's a couple bars down the street that we usually hang out at until they call us. The food is amazing!! Please get the corn empanadas!!! And it's BYOB!! Love, love, love!!!

I have been recently here with some friends (no kids this time!). The food is delicious and portions are pretty big. We selected a couple of appetizers (two empanadas and one Berenjena en Escabeche to share) then we got the Parrillada Para Dos. Definitely enough food for everyone. The Parrillada Para Dos is really big for two so I would recommend it for at least 3 hungry meat eaters! Why 4 stars? The tables are pretty closed to each other and the place is pretty noisy at the point that it is not easy to have a conversation with someone that is on the other side of the table from you. Summing up: I would definitely recommend the restaurant for the food and service but I wouldn't if you like to chat with your friends.

Choose Tango Sure for it's reputation and proximity to the Music Box Theatre. Was a great choice! Enjoyed the jamon and melon and mixed seafood salad to start. Our group had ravioli, empanadas, and a pork chop and all found there meal to be very good. Great service! Didn't know it was BYOB but that didn't effect the experience. Packed place even early at 5. We will be back!

Amazing food!!! We love it. Try the filete mignon AWESOME! Bring your own wine and enjoy a perfect night.

Good steakhouse, chorizos were a little bit over cooked but the "entraña" (skirt steak) was out of this world! They bring your salad way before the meat and that shouldn't happen in a truly Argentine restaurant since Ensalada is meant to be eaten at the same time as the meat :) Flan (custard) is SUPERB!

You actually get two fillets for the price of one. Not the best fillet but definitely worth the price. You can bring in your own liquor which can be anything from wine to whiskey or Beer. Waiter was very nice and helped us with the menu. Small neighborhood restaurant with a very tight quarters while you’re eating but the atmosphere is fun so you don’t seem to mind. Definitely worth a try and glad we went.

One of our steaks came rare instead of medium rare so we sent it back. It happens. No urgency from waiter to return the steak. It took over 10 minutes while others had already received their meals. Waiter said there was nothing he could do. Wrong answer! I want waiters with a spine who look out for their customers.

Went on a weeknight for a family dinner to Tango Sur. This neighborhood gem was recommended by family & friends. Was surprised there was no wait for a table, we had a choice of being seated inside or outside. We choose to be seated in the dining room. It's a BYOB restaraunt, so we brought wine with us. Excellent service- water glasses filled all evening, candles were lit after we were seated, wine was opened & poured for us. We ordered filet mignon with spinach mashed potatoes & veal t-bone. All dinners came with a house salad & potatoes in the side of the entree. Had plenty of food on our plates for leftovers to bring home. Our server surprised us by bringing carmel flan to share for dessert. Dinner for 4 plus tip came to $165.

Came here last night for dinner with friends and was not disappointed. We had so many great dishes and everything was fresh and flavorful. It was a good environment and we all enjoyed ourselves. Would definitely come back.

Came here for dinner after solid recommendations online. It's a BYOB (there is a great Wine Shop down the street, "Que Syrah") which is great, but frankly, I found the food to be trading quantity for quality. I expect Argentinian steakhouse cuts to be somewhat fattier and juicier than normal steakhouse cuts, but these seemed too fatty and poorly cooked (my "medium rare" was so rare I almost sent it back, which I've never done). The salad that came along with it was iceberg lettuce, onions and tomatoes... For the price I would've expected a bit more effort. Nonetheless, service was friendly and fast. Probably wouldn't come back, but if you're looking for a very big steak, they have quite a selection.

Food took a long time to come out, for such a small establishment but was good.. a great place to hang with friends..

We didn't know it was BYOB. That really didn't matter to us, but you should know. We had to wait an hour to sit down. A local assured us that it was well worth it. Get the large steak. My husband did, and he was not disappointed. The long wait is a good reflection of the quality of the food. It's a good neighborhood, so put in your name and take a walk.

Best date night my husband planned for us, Tango Sur and catching Ring of Fire (Johnny Cash) at the Mercury. We loved the atmosphere, sat inside versus outside. Love BYOB. Ordered the filet mignon with the spinach mash potatoes. Absolutely best steak I have had ---and I have been fortunate to have eaten at some of the best steak houses in Chicago and around the country. The chimichurri sauce was to die for! It was a large portion (two pieces of steak) so I took home, and it was as good the next day after a short warm up. It helps that this was a top notch meal at a great price. I am tired of over paying and getting underwhelmed by the meal. The potatoes were great, thin whipped, so not a "heavy" blob of mashers, but a nice complement to the meat. As we live in Chicago, a great dining city, we are trying to not duplicate restaurants as we want to enjoy as many as possible, but Tango Sur is on our must dine again list. Go enjoy, but leave a table for us!

If you are looking for excellent Argentinean beef, you will find it at Tango Sur. Awesome meat, excellent pasta dishes, empanadas and desserts. Prices are reasonable and you can bring your own wine or beer. There is usually a long wait but it is worth it. Service is good.

This is a BYOB place, with excellent food - if you like Argentine Beef - here you go! Outdoor seating was nice as it was a perfect day. Lots of food on the plate - we could have shared the meal - as we took about half of each of our dinner's home.

My husband and I had dinner here while in town from LA. A friend recommended it. Not only was the food delicious, it was well worth the price. The atmosphere was nice and the service was good. We ran into a local couple who dine there frequently, not only did they give recommendations of the food but they welcomed us to Chicago. Coming from LA where everyone minds their own business and keeps to themselves, it was nice to hear for a change. They have a sister restaurant a few doors down that is BYOB. You buy your alcohol there and they bring it over for you. We stayed downtown and it wasn’t too far from the LTrain stop. We obv we’re there at night but it didn’t feel scary at all. I’d def recommend this place for those visiting Chicago. Sorry I don’t take pics of the food or restaurant, it was candle lit and the quality is not worth posting. Trust me you won’t regret this place I’d you go.

Best meat in town, a little bit expensive, but definitely, not overpriced and service is really friendly. If you are visiting the city, this restaurant is a must. It's close to Southport brown line station. Don't eat to much, because You'll be near some other cool places, such as El Mercado and the Argentinean ice cream place Frio Gelato.

The food is great and we enjoy the BYOB aspect. It can be a bit of a wait on Friday and Saturday evening, but it is definitely worth it!

Visited early Saturday evening. Very busy. Got table outside. Slow service because it was very busy. Decent steak. Good price.

First visit here and it was beyond expectations. Always a little leery when going to a BYOB restaurant, but no concerns at all here. The food was fantastic!! I had the veal chop that was cooked to perfection. Everyone in our party raved about their meals. We had brought wine and beer with us and the wait staff opened our bottles and provided glasses and ice. Speaking of staff - one of the most friendly and attentive I have experienced. I will be back!

We both ordered a steak for our dinner, the Steak Vesuvio, and the filet. The waiter suggested the Vesuvio be cooked medium which we felt was a bit overdone. The flavor was delicious! The filet was fabulous, melted in our mouth! Wonderful, friendly service.

Love love love!!!! Delicious food great price and BYOB! Must go there plots perfect for romantic dates. Flan is exceptional. Service is excellent

The ambiance at tango sur is amazing and is perfect for a romantic night out. Since the establishment is BYOB you can purchase a bottle of red wine to pair with the meal prior. The cost is reasonable and the portion sizes are outstanding. It has one of the best wait staffs in Chicago.

Omg this place is absolutely delicious 😍I loved the food, the atmosphere, and it's BYOB! We made reservations a few days in advance and were seated right away when we got there. The tables are all candlelit, which in my opinion, creates a very romantic setting. Our waiter was very attentive and helpful. Since it was our first time he was very patient with us and made awesome recommendations about what to eat. We brought wine and our waiter opened all the bottles for us, and provided the glasses. We really enjoyed this place and would definitely go back!

We stopped in early on a Monday evening as we had heard that it can get crowded and busy. The service was very good and helpful. The atmosphere was about what we expected for an Argentinian restaurant. The food was flavorful, but my son and I found our bone-in ribeye steaks to be a little tougher than one would expect. My wife had a chicken dish and loved it.

Be prepared to wait for a table, but it will be worth it! My boyfriend requested a steak dinner for his birthday so my sister recommended Tango Sur. Unfortunately, we only had a party of 4 and they do not take reservations unless you have a party of 6 or more. We went early on Friday night and put out names in around 7 PM. We did not get sat until 9 PM but it was worth the wait and we were able to walk to a nearby liquor store to get our drinks! The services was very prompt and polite. Everything we ordered was delicious - empanadas (corn was my favorite), Churrasco,Steak Dinner (I recommend the spinach mashed potatoes), and carmel cheesecake.

Service was awful and food even worse. Spoke to the manager and he insulted my intelligence. Will never go there again.

I recently visited this restaurant and found it to be a place I will not visit again. Although the food and service were good you are actually timed and asked to leave after your time is up. If I am paying out hundreds of dollars for food I don't think I should be told when to leave so that the restaurant can make more money off others waiting there turn.

I got a steak here and it was great. Well cooked and seasoned. The service was good and everyone that was with me was pleased with their meal also.

Great food!! Cooked just right! Great staff. BE prepared to wait if you go on a Friday or Sat night after 8

I had been there before and I loved the food and the ambiance. However, this last time, the ambiance continues to be as lively as you would like in this type of restaurant but the steaks were disappointing. My friend and I tried the Vacio and the Churrasco and the assured us that they will be fork tender and they were not. Both cuts were dry and totally overcooked. The potatoes were over seasoned. Disappointed that is all I can say. The service is great and attentive but you go there for the food quality and it was not there. I do not recommend this restaurant.

are meant to be braised. These were chewy, kind of like rubber! Empanadas were average. The service was attentive.

They have great options and their steak is delicious!! The staff were friendly but the only negative was how long the wait is. The estimates were way off but if you stick it out it's worth it!

This place has argentinian type food. The service was a bit slow, but our server was very good. Unfortunately, my chicken was dried out, but my husbands rib eye was very good. The place was dark and very loud. We had to scream to have a conversation. We won't be going back.

the best beef cuts, and all the Argentine grilled food you wish to try. Also pasta and other meals. You need a reservation and you must take your own bottle of wine.

Two people...two delicious ribeyes, salad, mashed potatoes, empanadas for an appetizer, bring a couple $10 bottles of wine and spend under $80. You tell me?

Great dark, candle-lit place to get a terrific steak (go with the filet) located in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago's northside. If you're staying downtown, hop in a cab. Here are the key things to know in advance 1.) It's BYOB so be sure to pick up your bottles of booze before you get there - or run down to the wine store located a block south after you put your name in. And 2.) they don't take reservations for less than 6 (?) so the wait can literally be hours. On a typical Friday or Saturday night you will see 20-30 people hanging around out front for a table. With that in mind, try to go on a week night or get there early for the weekend... like 5:30. The vibe is cool and the wait is worth it (or go early!)

Tango Sur offers a very vibrant and interesting experience. Great interior, huge portions, good variety of meat and other dishes. Since the restaurant does not have license to serve alcohol, you have to bring your own wine. The staff is very friendly. They open the bottle for you, bring glasses free off charge.

Simple food done well is an art. With no complicated sauces and preparations, you cannot hide a poorly cooked meal. Tango Sur makes an amazing steak and for a reasonable price. Great friendly service in a quaint spot on Southport. It's is also BYOB, so bring your favorite wine that pairs with a good steak. Reservations are only for parties of six or more, so get there early, especially on the weekends. A must experience restaurant in Chicago.

the food is fantastic, flavorful and filling. The no fee BYOB is hands carefree and welcoming. We went early on a weekday and had no problems getting an outside table on a rare but beautiful evening. Great place to sit, have a drink, people watch and enjoy a great meal.

Tenderest beef ever.....great apps....wonderful service Was here with a party of 11, every dish served was sooo good! And it’s BYOB (with corking charge)

Very good food, the meat was awesome and the service was excellent. Me and my friends totally loved the dinner. If you go there make sure to bring your own wine because the don't serve alcohol. The positive thing about it is that don't get overcharged for alcohol as normal restaurants do and you get to bring your favorite wine :)

After we called and were given reservation time , so we showed up , were told to wait 15-20 minutes- seemed like a normal busy evening. While quite a few people were waiting, host told us that many of those are just walk-ins and waiting for 1 hr or longer. While we were asking about progress, everyone else was being seated, but us. Then , after everyone else who was standing was seated, host started to sit newly arrived people, but not us. When I asked him , he , without looking me in the eyes, promised his attention in near future. After which, we obviously left. We are from Chicago, know how to handle crowded places, but unveiled arrogance belongs to gathering of unwanted relatives not at the respectable dining establishment

First off, this is my wife's and my favorite date location in Chicago. You go and expect an experience, it is the perfect cross between fancy/romantic and divey. The wait may be over 2 hours, but you go there expecting that. We go put our name down, and hand out at toon's down the street for a couple hours. It is BYOB which is always a plus, and we usually bring a few bottles just in case someone around us needs one. It is super dark and candle lit inside, which we love. It feels exoticly romantic. Side note: get the sweet breads... they are amazing...

We were six foodies who gave, in all, 12 thumbs up. We were joined by a couple of kids who also enjoyed their meals thoroughly. Like many nearby places, Tango Sur is BYOB with no uncorking fee. They do not take reservations and they fill immediately so arriving an opening time is, in general, the only way to avoid waiting.

Absolutely loved this place and the food!! Service was great too. I love the fact that is a BYOB and that the steak is actually a big piece of steak! Very tasty and cooked to perfection. Great for date night and dinner in group. I loved the feel of the restaurant and the decor. The cool pictures of all the soccer legends and Argentinian characters in the restrooms was a cool touch. Deft recommend Tango Sur to anyone looking for a yummy dinner.

We went to Tango Sur with our daughter and her boyfriend. The ambiance is casual and the service was good. The entire restaurant is candle light dining. The food was good. I would recommend you have an appetite, as the portions are ample. We had Argentinian steak and it was very good. It was an enjoyable evening and I recommend you visit Tango Sur for a fun time.

An incredible Chicago Argentina steakhouse with a wine bistro next door. Bustling, almost European atmosphere with friend - though busy - staff. We recommend the ribeye, the rello, and the empanadas. You’ll need reservations for this place and the portions are enormous but it’s a great place.

Took my daughter for a dinner after we purchased her first car. The amount of food that comes to you can't be stressed enough. We started with the empanada and the beef tongue appetizers. There must have been over a pound of thinly sliced tongue with a vinegar dressing. The empanadas were yummy too. She had the chicken (half a chicken) and I had the skirt steak (others may call it s strip steak). Both dinners were huge and yummy and you can't finish it all. Well not the two of us. We sat inside which is a little loud but we were against a wall so we could hear one another. And yes you can bring your own wine. They are very quick to take care of it for you. Service was prompt but not over bearing. Someone spilled and they had that cleaned up in an instant. I will go back again when my wife comes with me. There are so many good restaurants in the city but this one deserves another trip.

Our group of 10, Chuckle and Chew, visit a restaurant in Chicago new to us all and then each member tells a joke that, hopefully, is also new to us all. This time Mary P selected Tango Sur on Southport. As the menu is on line, and as there are many reviews already here and on Yelp that raise various points I will keep to our experience, but alluding to other reviews. First, there are several (many?) reviews out there complaining of long waits for a table. While we did go on a Thursday evening early (6:30) we had no wait at all. However we DID have a reservation. Just showing up is not wise. We were immediately shown to our table and instantly attended to. When we left about two and a half hours later the restaurant was indeed totally full and there were several groups waiting at the front door and in the "waiting room"; there is no bar. Next, yes, it is very, very dark... but we liked it. Other than two very dim chandeliers the only light comes from the candles on the table. We all used the torches on our phones to read. Third, yes, as others have said, it is very, very loud. As there were ten of us, especially when we were telling our jokes, we had to lean in and speak loudly to be heard. For us, however, it is perfect as we are the ones who are usually the loud ones. We fit right in here. Fourth, our service was nothing short of excellent. Our waiter explained everything clearly and made honest recommendations to keep us from making "mistakes." For example someone who wanted a very rare veal t-bone was advised to order another cut. Even though it is a BYOB the busser repeatedly returned to keep our water glasses full. To the food. Yes, an Argentinean Steak House, and a very good one. The selecion of steaks from the veal and beef t-bones to short ribs, skirt steaks, and "flap meat," is extensive. All are cooked on a grill and all of us who ordered steaks agreed that they were all cooked exactly as we asked from rare to medium well. No steakls went back. Some of the cuts are a bit tough, but very flavorful. Also and very important the portions are huge! Two of our members ordered the filet (El Filet) as they did not want a huge steak, just a filet mignon. The order, however, comes with TWO filet mignons. Both ate one there and will be eating the other at home. It also comes with a giant and sublime portion of spinach mashed potatoes. Very hearty portions. There are also pastas for vegetarians as well as chicken, pork chops and salmon. Our member who ordered the salmon was very pleased. The appetizers ("Entradas") were excellent. Most of us ordered one of the Empanadas which are very similar to an English or Cornish pasty. A"half moon" pastry with choice of fillings. Our group ordered one of each and shared. The sweet beef, ham and cheese, and spinach and cheese were excellent. We also shared the different accompanying sauces and mixed them as well. We ordered two antipastas for the table. They were "okay" with a bit more lettuce and tomato than meat and cheese. Be warned that once the appetizers are gone everyone gets a complimentary house salad. Nothing special, lettuce, tomato and onion with only oil and vinegar on the tables as dressing. We were "keeping room" for the main course which we highly advise as the portions are so big. So most of us declined politely the offer. Finally, the deserts. After the main course we were all more than full, half of us with "doggie bags," but when we made the mistake of asking what was on offer the waiter came over with a giant platter of all the choices. They are all so beautifully presented and varied that we ordered six to share. One was better than the other. Carrot, chocolate, vanilla cakes, flans all with very rich toppings and layers. Not a crumb was left. When all was over the bill came to (including 20% tip) a very reasonable $45.00 per person (thank God for BYOB's). The most expensive steak is only $29.00. Finally, our group comes from all over Chicago. Although you cannot get too much busier than Southport & Grace, parking was not a problem. There is no valet but there was ample parking on the street (albeit you must feed the "Daley Parking Boxes") and we were told you can park for free in th school lot across the street. So, four out of five stars. Our customary closing vote was 9 - 0 to recommend! To see the winning joke go to our Facebook page. Juliana picks next month's restaurant. Still no problem finding one new to us all! Chicago is an embarrasment of restaurant riches.

We really enjoyed our dinner at Tango Sur. I had been craving Argentinian food and the empanadas and steak were so delicious! I definitely recommend the "vacio" cut, it was cooked perfectly and had the best flavor! If you are planning on eating here, particularly on a Friday night like us, I'd recommend making a reservation. It was extremely busy and we had to wait awhile to be seated. The only negatives I noticed were that it was extremely noisy inside (maybe quieter/better to go on a weeknight?) and there was only one small bathroom.

Excellent parrillada meat, great service, good music, nice place. Average price for this kind of restaurant. Little bit crowded but the dessert (flan with dulce de leche) pays it off. If you like argentinean food you won't be disappointed.

Recommended by a friend who used to bartend in Chitown, this spot delivered what she promised. Great meat and great service. We started with the melted cheese and I had the Argentinian sampler which was WAY more food than one person could eat. I will definitely be back.

This was my go to place for a nice and reasonably priced steak for at least a decade. The EL FILET used to have 2 medium size filet mignon, enough to share with the husband. Now you have the option of 1 filet for $36 or 2 filet for $45. So the cost has almost doubled for their previous portions. Also, they charge an additional $10 if you split a dish, even if it is a salad. So the prices now are almost comparable to other restaurants. Food however is as DELICIOUS as ever. Given that it’s BYOB with no corkage, I would still return to this place if I was in the neighborhood but wouldn’t go out of my way to go here just for what used to be a great deal for a meal.

Great place for a date, or for a group. I like the dark ambience with the candles and the live music. Great place to bring a bottle of red wine and break bread with friends. The food is good, but not great; reason for the four stars. The service is good, and usually very friendly. I do recommend a reservation, as they do get crowded. We usually always order a couple flavors of their empanadas, which are delicious. We then share the beef flap steak with sweet potatoes served table side, yum. I do recommend this dish over the filet served the same way. The filet is a cheaper one, lower USDA grade, Select or No Roll grade. It is noticeable, as the filet s tough, and less flavor than the flap meat. I just learned from my son, who went the other night with his girl, that the Salmon with Portobello Mushroom sauce was solid. I think this was a special, but he really liked it.

Delicious Argentinian food. Huge portions. My husband had the lamb and I had the filet mignon. Both delicious! The Spinach mash was excellent and unique. The service was great. You bring your own wine and they pour for you.

Tango Sur is everything I want in a restaurant. A little funky, lots of character, romantic candles, interesting dishes with international appeal, BYOB, exciting vibe. But...and here's the sad thing. My meat was total gristle. My right hand and arm are actually sore from trying to saw through my strip steak. My husband got the skirt steak and it was delicious. Everything else was perfect. Prompt and friendly waiter. Water glasses filled regularly. Courses served with precision. Wine uncorked without asking. Warm and crusty rolls. Fantastic empanadas. Fresh salad, a perfect preface to the steaks. So, I'm chalking my horrible steak up to an ornery old steer that got stood up on New Year's Eve and giving Tango Sur a four. When I go back, and have a better steak, I will give it the five star rating I know it deserves.

The ham & cheese empanadas come highly recommended. The menu does offer black sausage(blood sausage) and beef sweetbreads, I usually like to try foods associated with the cuture. HOWEVER, I chose the filet, that others had recommended. The serving size was very generous, served on spinach mashed potatoes. The steak was very tender and flavorful. My friend had the flank steak with Argentinian fries. His steak was flavorful. The fries tasted reheated. The salad that came with the meal was very basic made with fresh produce. The atmosphere is dark, but that makes it a perfect place for a date night!

My friend and I were visiting Chicago from Boise, Idaho and shopping in the Water Tower Place. While checking out at one of the stores, the sales person asked where we were from and said that she was also from Idaho. I asked her for recommendations to get a good steak. She recommended Tango Sur, so we gave it a try! The food was great! My husband had a steak and I had the raviolis with the red sauce which was amazing. The staff was very nice. We would absolutely go back next time we are in town.

We went early since we know the place gets very busy at night. The place is cozy, nice decor. The waiters are Argentinian which is really nice!. We brought our own wine. The portions are really big, so, we decided to split them, one for two people. Then we were told that they will split them for a fee of 8.00 and that each person will get the small green salad. We have never heard of this before. My friends visit restaurants all the time and they were surprised too. We did it anyway and it was a good choice, I was unable to finish half portion meal!! The flan was to die for!! The waiter was nice, a little bit short of words.

My daughter has been singing the praises of Tango Sur for months now and wanted me to experience it. We were celebrating her upcoming wedding and decided to pay the restaurant a visit for lunch. Her bridesmaids and I had never been there before but since she was so excited to take us there, we all eagerly agreed. Our waiter, Saul, was wonderful and had several recommendations for us. We wanted to share everything so we could try a variety of food. We feasted on the empanadas - which were beyond delicious, and shared salmon, the filet, and the amazing eggplant dish that was out of this world. Everything was exquisite and since we brought our own wine, our meal was so reasonably priced, I was shocked. What a deal! We were able to sit outdoors on a lovely Saturday afternoon, and enjoy the day in such a unique way with good food, lots of laughs, and a cozy, yet open enviornment. I highly recommend this place! We will return again soon, for sure.

Overall, the food was very good, service ok. This restaurant was lit up with only candles. It was so dark, we couldn't read the menu! But worth it.

Great steaks at great price. Authentic Argentinian meats with great friendly service. Definitely will go again.

Tango Sur was one of the best surprises we found in our neighborhood! Great value, delicious, flavorful steak. We were told to get there around 5 since they don't take reservations and it definitely filled up fast! Highly recommend the cheese appetizer and the filet.

This place is excellent. We live in Chicago half the year and have had lots of steaks. This was maybe the best we've ever had at an unheard of price. And included a salad and potato as well. Doesn't take reservations for small groups so go early or expect a wait. We went on a weeknight around 5:15 and got right in. We sat on the patio and it was great. We will definitely go back!

We tried this place on a Thursday as they don't have reservations but we were impressed! The parrilla for 2 has so much meat that could feed 4, very good steak and sides !

we had dinner here the other night and it was just great. We ordered the dinner for two and that was enough for 3 people. The atmosphere was very cool and hip, the staff were great. Our waiter was from Argentina. We also had the baked cheese and pepper appetizer, another good choice. I can't wait to go again.

The restaurant itself is good, portions are generous to say the least, very high quality meat selection. What i didnt like was the fact it wasnt licensed to sell alcohol, although that was solved by going a few doors down to buy wine and beer and drink it at the restaurant. Overall a good place.

BYOB and enjoy a delicious steak cooked to perfection. Typical Chicago eatery in that it is crowded, noisy and expect to wait. But the steaks are worth it!

Very casual setting. Usually doesn't take reservations so make sure you're there early. The place is BYOB so make sure to bring your favorite Malbec or cabernet with you. This is actual Argentinean meat: not only do they have your usual ribeye (which rocks) but also some tastier entrees. My recommendation: If you are 2-3 people, skip the appetizers (they are OK but nothing out of this world) and share an entree as appetizer. You don't be disappointed

We waited 2 hours to eat at this restaurant. It would have been that it was posted some where that this restaurant does not have a bar. BYOB

Great meal and a wonderful atmosphere. Love the BYOB so I could have a favorite wine with dinner. We had the traditional salad, empanadas and shared a main entree. It was ample food. Because we were out of town on business we couldn’t save the leftovers. That was heartbreaking to a foodie!

After moving to Chicago from Texas, trying different steakhouses,I decided to get out of River North and try this place out. From the empanadas to the sides and the steak which are huge btw, I eat a lot and barely finished mine what's more, very flavorful. Nice little spot with great service and the best part BYOB ,so being that bottle of wine to enjoy with a special one in a nice romantic setting.

Living in wriggled ill ethics was a regular haunt. BYOB, no reservations unless you have 6 or more peo but definitely worth the wait. Brilliant steaks, huge portions and great atmosphere. Wish it was in New York!

Had the worst experience recently. We dine here pretty often with my wife and friends. This time went with a friend and before we finished our desert and drinks they sent a young guy to kick us out - asking if we could leave as there were people waiting. This was a very unpleasant experience. We will not be dinning here again, and i would not recomment this place to others. Its a shame how restaurants lose their loyal customers by being so greedy.
The food is good, but the live music is too laud!
The food is really good, Argentinean food. I went for dinner, but there is no light at all. Only candles, so its hard to see your plate really well. Moreover there is a guy who plays the guitar, but the music is so laud that you can hardly talk. You have to take your own wine. The customer service is average I will suggest you to go early and sit outside.
