Group of 4 during happy hour. We stopped by before a concert because of the yelp rating. We were seated right away, but it went down hill from there. The service was very slow, when our drinks were dropped off they just plopped on the table and he split beer but never came back to clean it up or bring napkins for it. When the food finally came, they forgot part of it, and our server never came around to ask how our meal was. We had to flag her down about the missing item and it finally showed when we were ready to leave. Our meal included the happy hour burger/fries (not bad), flat bread with Sweet Corn, Wild Shrimp and Grilled Scallions ( looked very unappetizing but had good flavor) , bacon corn fritters, and Rigatoni (hamburger helper is almost better), Grilled Flat Iron Steak (this was the worst of our items) off the dinner menu. If you must come here, stick to the happy hour menu.

We arrived at the adjoining hotel late and only wanted cocktails. The bartender was fantastic and made us some GREAT cocktails!

We ate here before a show at the Armory. We allowed plenty of time to get to the show and told our waitress. The service was SLOW and my food was average at best. My companion enjoyed their meal, but it was offset by the fact that we could never find/see staff to request more water or to pick up our credit card to pay. My portion was so small I would have ordered something else, but no one ever checked on us. I might try the bar for happy hour, but this will no longer be on my list of places to go to dinner.

Wow, another David Machado restaurant in Portland. We are big fans of Mr. Machado and his restaurants. His team recently opened Tanner Creek Tavern, and it is our current favorite spot in town. We absolutely love the central location, the easy parking, and of course- the restaurant. Dress up, or dress down; your choice. We have been here for casual dining, business dining, and New Year's Eve dinner. Every time, the food is amazing and the staff very attentive. Hint: get the Deviled Duck Wings as a starter. From there, you can't go wrong with any of the selections. I just can't get enough of the Butternut Squash Agnolotti- it's simply incredible. Chef Trevor recommended it last time, and he was right! Bravo to Tanner Creek, we will see you again very soon. PS- The Tavern Burger is unbelievably tasty, great for a Happy Hour early meal.

Attached to the Hampton Inn in the Pearl District and a great place for a drink and light food. The bartenders know how to mix a drink and are really friendly people. Was served a lemon drop martini with a difference and it was really good. The house wine is the wine the Tavern is named for and I don't recommend it. Very, very peppery.

There seems to be mixed reviews on here but my experience was a great one here. We were staying at the Hampton Inn & Suites and so this place was perfect for grabbing some food and a few (perhaps more) drinks after spending the afternoon wandering around Portland. My friend wasn't hungry and went back to our room so I sat at the bar on my own and was served quickly by the bartender. I ordered the Tavern Burger which was easily one of the tastiest burgers I've ever had, and there wasn't loads of sloppy goo coming out of it either like you get in most places. I stayed for a couple of hours and chatted with an interesting guy from North Carolina who sat a few seats down from me at the bar. There's plenty of seating around the bar area and then quite a few tables around the edges of the room. I noticed one of the glass walls opened up completely which seemed to help with the ambience of the place.

We were staying at the Hampton Inn, so this was super convenient for our first night in town. And, we liked it enough we came back for a second dinner with friends! Happy hour menu was a bit limited, but great prices! We all loved the Tavern burger, Romaine salad, and deviled eggs. The walls of the restaurant open, so we got to enjoy people watching and catch the nice evening breeze as well.

We are locals, not hotel guests. So we were a bit surprised that a Pearl District restaurant, in such a great location, is having a bit of difficulty matching other places located all around them. The grilled Brussels sprouts are perfect. Big portion, gobbled up by everyone at the table. The tiny pear and ham pizza was pretty darned greasy, and the Korean sandwich was a lot of bread. I think they only see their hotel guests once or twice but to lure repeat locals I'd kinda think about retraining the staff and expand happy hour offerings. If I'm in the area I might drop by again.

We were staying in the Hampton Inn in the Pearl District, and this restaurant was right off the lobby. Every time we walked by it was packed. So one evening we stopped in for a drink and a happy hour pizza. Service was excellent and very friendly. The vegetarian pizza was very reasonably priced for happy hour, and was just the perfect size for 2 of us to share. It was an interesting pizza with asparagus and peas. We really enjoyed it.

Earlier today my wife and I stopped to have lunch at Tanner Tavern. It turned out to be a solid decision. She had the rockfish tacos with coleslaw and a side salad. Her battered and deep-fried tacos were dressed with chipotle crema. They were absolutely delicious. I had the mushroom and onion soup and a caesar salad with white anchovies. The soup was a bit tart for my taste, although my wife loved it. The salad was great. This is a really nice restaurant for lunch.

Oh my goodness, right in our hotel, the food was so good, the service was outstanding, a pure delight!

We were staying at the Hampton Inn so we decided to stop by the tavern for a late dinner. The food was decent - nothing special - but the service was terrific.

What a total surprise to walk into a restaurant in the building of the Hampton Inn and find such a high quality restaurant with in season flavors. The chef and sous chef have crafted delicious upgrades of several standbys that move up the layers of clean, fresh flavors. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The music is at a low enough decibel level to enable conversations with a fun background beat. Perfect for the traveler when they are tired, but need/want good-for-you nourishment. And locals, don’t miss out on such a fun place.

We ate here because we were staying in the hotel and we were too lazy to go elsewhere. In hindsight, maybe venturing out would have been better. The service was great, super friendly staff but the food was lacking. I have no idea why you would smother lamb meatballs in some Godforsaken ketchup sauce. Absolutely disgusting. The ceviche was ok, even though someone thought putting peanuts in it would be of benefit. Soup and salad were adequate, but nothing to write home about. If push came to shove, I would not eat here but the drinks and service were great.

This establishment was attached to the hotel (Hampton Inn) that we stayed in. As my husband was in the room recovering from surgery, it was easy to go downstairs and order dinner to go. The employees were very accommodating in preparing the meals and our special requests.

What a surprise it was to fine such a great restaurant so conveniently located next to the Hampton Inn we were staying at for a week. We were too tired to look for a restaurant after traveling all day so decided to try this establishment. We were not disappointed! Very fresh fish entrees with great sides. Great daily specials. The entrees were served with interesting toppings/sauces. The wait staff was friendly and efficient. We were so impressed with the food here that we ended up eating here a couple of time during our week long stay.

A Saturday night in the pearl, not that busy, slow service. Very casual restaurant, as the name tavern would suggest. Just a few mains. Food tries to be high end but the ambience, clientele and staff seem otherwise. I think this would be a great place for happy hour but not for dinner. Though my husband totally enjoyed the halibut special and wants to go back.

I visited the Tavern while staying next door at the Hampton Inn. It's a nice, upscale location with a varied menu, though I had one of the unremarkable soups. The most discouraging thing is that the Tavern only sells local craft beers, as did all of the places I visited in OR. I am not a craft beer drinker and it was quite surprising not to even find a Budweiser product on any menus. However, the location next to the Hampton made it a convenient destination.

This restaurant was located inside my hotel at The Hampton, Pearl District. The food looked absolutely delicious, but I had just eaten. I only had a couple glasses of wine, but the bartender was still extremely nice and welcoming!!!

We ate here one evening while staying at the Hampton Inn next door. The service was quick and efficient. The food was beautifully presented and tasty with the only downside being its price which was high.

We stopped in for a drink and a bite to eat and we are so glad we did. The Tanner Creek Tavern is a fun place. The food was wonderful. The service was great. All around, this was a great visit.

I had two great meals at the bar. Great spot to hang if you're staying at the hotel or looking for a laid-back hangout with a good vibe.

My wife and I had never been to Portland and stayed 2 nites at the Hampton Inn in the Pearl district. After a day of driving to various places in Oregon, it was really convenient to walk thru the hotel lobby to this restaurant to eat a reasonably priced good dinner (plus a great beer selection!) The bartender Randa was fantastic and gave us good tourist advice. We enjoyed talking to a cool lady from Cape Cod at the bar and appreciated not having to drive. We’d recommend the calamari, the steak, and the bolognese.

Anyone going to Portland or living here....the food here is the BOMB! We had Oregon Rockfish, grilled cheese and tomato soup, and sesame crunch salad with chicken. Holy cow they were such a level above. We all were talking about how good the food was hours later and the next day. I can't wait to go back and try a cocktail too! Service was great and prices decent.

Everything from the casual, smart decor, accommodating servers and excellent chefs was perfect. I had the asparagus with poached egg, braised pork on polenta and ended with panna cotta. The pork was one of the best meals I've had. So delicious. We will be back.

The happy hour menu has a nice selection and, while the restaurant is not outstanding for Portland, it is a pleasant space and conveniently located. I've eaten here with friends recently -- once for lunch and twice for dinner. We all agreed that the salads and desserts are exceptional. The salads were creative and tasty, and the dessert pastries were delicate and delicious. The main dishes were good but not exciting. Nice choice of beverages.

Everything our group ordered was really good, from artichoke risotto to chicken confit and clams. The service was excellent. Would definitely recommend. Lots of interesting menu items to choose from. Will return.

I live a couple of blocks away from this place thus the reason why I have given it three opportunities to redeem itself; to no avail (I have actually gone there more than three times that's why I'm so frustrated). The Happy Hour menu is horrible, their only item that actually is worth is their burger and fries which means if you are a vegetarian you are at a loss (unless you only consume french fries). The service is bad and I mean bad; the waitstaff has no clue of what food items to recommend, the vegetarian pizza was horrible; the asparagus did not work with the cheese and the horrendous green garlic 'salsa' did not help; do cooks just call whatever they come up with 'salsa?' It was more like a green aioli that was tasteless, The pizza dough was soft and mushy, how can you go wrong with a pizza? I have tried their chicken confit and what a disappointment. The waiters no only have no clue as to the menu, but they are cocky and inappropriate. I am definitely never coming here again, nor am I recommending this place to any of my friends. They need to revise their menu and think of better combinations to serve vegetarian patrons. You need to train your personnel better and have them always taste the food before they recommend or not. The hotel will help this business but if it were a stand alone place, I don't think it would be successful at all. Their only redeemable item on that limited mediocre menu was their chocolate cake, and not enough for me to ever come back here again.

Food was excellent, as was the cocktail of the day. If you miss Happy Hour the same food costs much more - but will still be good!

My wife and I travel to Portland weekly, and some months ago moved our routine to staying in the Hampton Inn that houses this relatively upscale, if unstuffy, restaurant. This is not “tavern food,” and this place is a significant reason we like to stay here. Typical of what we find was tonight’s Heirloom Tomato and Stone Fruit Panzanella with Mozzarella and Chicken Breast with Corn, Red Pepper and Fava Bean Succotash. Inventive, healthy, and delicious. With friendly service and a clean environ, you could do much worse. We will likely be back next week, and the week after that, and ...

The grilled artichoke drizzled with grilled lemon and dipped into a tasty dip was delicious! Our shared roasted half chicken with real crispy skin and juicy meat tasted even better with grilled corn, onions, cilantro (I think), avocado (with lime and salt) and masa (made of corn) cake. I requested for more avocado. They did oblige but I wish there was more and on the cake. My other friend enjoyed her grilled salmon with red raddish, dark salad leaves, yellow zucchini. The staff were attentive, friendly and prompt.

We recently stayed at the Hampton Inn-Pearl District. Tanner Creek Tavern is right off the hotel lobby so it was very convenient after a long travel day. Food and drink selection was good and the quality was outstanding, as the many local diners would seem to suggest.

This restaurant was surprisingly good for a hotel restaurant. Surprisingly, while most of the other restaurants in the area had a long wait that particular Saturday night, Tanner Creek did not. I was afraid that may be an indicator of the quality but was pleasantly surprised it was not. Food was very high quality and moderately priced. My husband has the flatiron while I had the tortilla chicken salad. The deviled duck wings for an appetizer are a must!

A friend and I had dinner at the Tanner Creek Tavern last night, and we both felt the same way about the experience. Truly awful. We started with the worst Cesar salad either of us has ever had, overwhelmed with lemon to the exclusion of other flavors. I chose the pasta. Arguably the most tasteless pasta I have ever had in a restaurant. She chose the schnitzel, one of her favorite dishes. Neither one of us could eat it. Dried out and again, tasteless. She told me it was not even recognizable as schnitzel. I typically don’t eat desert but we were both hungry. I ordered sorbet thinking it a safe choice. It was so bitter that neither of us ate more than a bite or two. She ordered a banana based desert that was quite good, the only positive experience in an otherwise abysmal dinner. I felt sorry for our waitress, who asked us repeatedly how everything was. The first time we said OK, but then began (almost apologetically for her sake) to tell her the truth.

Our group of 6-8 retired friends head to Happy Hours each month, and Tanner Creek Tavern is one of the gems with numerous unusual delicious choices. Among the 5 dishes we ordered each was distinctive; flavors meshed and just popped out. Read their Happy Hour menu.

Inside the Hampton Inn Pearl in Portland, OR this bar/restaurant is convenient and friendly. We were in almost every afternoon during our 5 day stay. Good local beers and ciders and a variety of mixed drinks. We did not eat in the restaurant, but food we saw was appetising. Great bartenders!

We stayed at the Hampton Inn which this is attached to. The staff are really friendly, wines and beers are great and we ate here twice. Had lovely soups and starters on the menu which we had several times, really tasty. This was where we crashed at the end of the day while visiting people and it is a very comfortable, welcoming place. Definitely would return and wish we had a place like this where we live!

We checked in to the Hampton Inn early and were looking for a nearby place for a late lunch. We decided to try the restaurant connected to the hotel, which was Tanner Creek. The Blackened Rockfish Sandwich was excellent! Burger was also very good. Service was attentive but not overbearing.

My Wife and I aren’t huge happy hour believers, mostly because must happy hour overload the menu with fried dishes, This restaurant breaks the mold. The menu is loaded with fairly health dishes. The burger is outstanding, as is the grilled chicken sandwich. The house salad is fresh and the dressing decent. The daily soup is a winner. If you’re interested in drinks, nice wine choices, and very good pours

The restaurant was still open and we thought that we could get a drink to try to relax after a stressful trip. Hotel even recommended that we go there. However, the computers are down, and they can not accommodate us at all. In fact, they were kicking everyone out of the restaurant. We said that we are staying at the hotel, and asked if the bill could be attached to our hotel bill. Nope, nothing doing, nada. So even though we walked by the restaurant several times, we did not venture in again after this unwelcoming incident. But there is a good ending. We went back to the hotel and told them how dismayed we were, and they gave us some free drinks from their cooler.

Stayed at the Hampton Inn attached and sat at the bar. Service was a bit slow at the beginning but it was clear the bar was busy. The mushroom and rice bowl was an amazing surprise I’d definitely recommend! I also had the snickerdoodle sundae which was very good but not worth the price. Is eat there again

Great service and tasty food, coupled with the good happy hour prices made dinner so good that I was there 2 nights. Try the burger and sweet potato fries.

Ate here to stay in the hotel and avoid long waits on a Sat night in the rain. Food was very good and the prices were fair for a downtown place in a good hotel.

Nice-looking place, just opened, with high expectations. Food is OK, but totally marred by slow, inattentive, disinterested service. Host was borderline rude. Trying to get waitstaff’s attention was next-to-impossible. Too bad, because the place has potential.

This place is wonderful. The food was flavorful and fantastic, but what really impressed me was the service we received from the moment we walked in the door. We were greeted with friendly faces who genuinely wanted my mother and I to have the best dining experience possible. There was one waitress (who we never got the name of) who helped us tremendously with providing directions on how to navigate through Portland. She also gave us fabulous recommendations on what to do with the limited time that we had in the city. We would not have had as great of a Portland experience without her advice of where to go next!

My wife and I ate here because we were staying at the Hampton and we were quite surprised in a good way. We had been walking around taking in the sights near our hotel and were tired and ready to unwind before going to our room. We were greeted and seated promptly outside. The service was spot on and our waitress that night answered every question we had and made great recommendations on drinks and food. I thoroughly enjoyed the clam with linguica dish. Also try the Brown Butter Blondie for desert, you won't be disappointed. Would I come here again when visiting Portland? You bet I would.:-)

Early dinner at Tanner Creek this week, highly recommended! The Tavern Burger seems to be something sent from heaven, but then... cheeseburger is a one of the major food groups, right? Well, this one is incredible. I think I dreamt about it later that night. Ambiance is Portland laid back; ok for jeans or dressy- you choose. This is a Dave Machado restaurant, so you know it's done properly; everything from the decor to the paper the menu is printed on. Service is top notch as well. Don't worry Tanner Creek, we're coming back again... and again....

We had a great time here. Had a dinner reservation but decided to pop in for happy hour first. Nice house red wine to start, at a good price level. Nice beer selection too. For food we did the deviled eggs, ham and cheddar fritters and the lettuces. Eggs were creamy and flavorful. The dressing on the salad was really good, nice tang. The fritters were also very good. Nice quantity, not greasy, full of flavor. Then we moved to the dining room. Starter was the cauliflower soup with truffle oil and vinegar. Nice combo for this mild tasty soup. Decided on the dinner special, a large pork chop with mushrooms. Served on a bed of mashed potato. Great cook and seasonings. We had a new dessert, a light cake with fresh grapefruit and white chocolate sauce. Refreshing and a perfect finish to our meal. The kitchen was great to us. We had fun with the staff too. Very friendly and helpful. Good serving sizes and pricing.

We stayed in the Hampton Inn & Suites Portland-Pearl District and wandered in here for dinner after a long day out on the road. The food was delicious and the service was great! Nice calm atmosphere and friendly staff! Just the place we needed!

Staying at the Hampton Inn meant we only had to walk 40 steps to enter the Tavern, a cozy, warm space. The service was fine and the local beer was tasty. We didn't expect much with the food and were delighted to find out that we were so wrong. My wife and I always order the fried calamari and the plate that we were served was perhaps one of the finest ever. Lightly fried to perfection, both types of squid were used, and the sauce was tantalizingly good. We concluded with a pizza that melted in the mouth. What a surprise. I am writing this review several days later and I can still visualize the space and taste the calamari.

We live nearby and this became our goto restaurant when it first opened. Then we gave it five stars. Unfortunately, the quality of the food has declined significantly the last few months, Their fritters have become deep fried balls of cornmeal with almost no filling, the tavern burger has fewer and cheaper ingredients, overall everything has gotten cheaper in cost (not price). The bar is still excellent and the servers great, but we are not going to be eating here anymore.

Excellent meeting room, buffet lunch made me not want to come home. Service was outstanding, really!

I visited this restaurant with friends for Portland Dining Month when they offer a 3 course meal for $33. All four of us ordered from that menu and were very happy with our meals. Everything was tasty, well prepared and presented. It looked like most of the items we had were also on the regular menu.
Not worth the $$$$$
I'm actually writing this from the bar after a big disappointment rating here. You can call yourself trendy or eclectic or Nuevo but if fail to deliver the food then what do you have? An overpriced dinner. The steak was just wrong, cold, tough, very small portion of what I think was sirloin, but passed off as something else: maybe 6 oz at best for $28 really? The service is good the beer also along with the salad "hint" cut the romaine guys please " but not really worth the a la carte prices
