I ate a seafood jelly even though it wasn't on the menu, grateful for that. The atmosphere and everything 10/10. The clean and elegant sshh.

We enjoyed a great dinner at Tanta’s. The food was delicious and service was excellent. Hats off and a shout out to our server and the Head Chef and Pastry Chef for making this evening a very special experience to remember. Highly recommend!

Amazing evening with very unique and exotic Peruvian food in a great location I. Downtown Chicago. We had a spectacular and tasty mixed seafood cebiche with squid, shrimp and fish. I loved their skewers - the octopus with chimichurri, and the chicken and steak with veggies was exquisite. If you like empanadas- they do a great job with the beef and chicken. My colleagues and I had the pleasure of tasting a few blends of Peruvian- Japanese dishes such as the tuna sashimi. If you like rice the pork fried rice is excellent and I would go back just to have another taste of the lomo saltado (stir fried beef tenderloin)! The other apettizers such as Yuca frita and chicharrón were equally great. We also enjoyed a nice pisco sour prepared in the most Peruvian way. Great place for any occasion.

Dont leave chicago without going. The best ceviche ever .. Mercado. For mains let the food lead you .. I looked around me and found interesting looking dishes and simply said I want one of those. Amazing

Very good, very busy Peruvian restaurant, with authentic tasting dishes. Tanta has a sister restaurant in Lima, which is one of the world’s top 50. One of our party has also dined there, and said this is not Peru, but it is still very good. Wide variety of typical Peruvian dishes, like Loma Saltado, and salmon, but without the more exotic options (guinea pig, etc.). Those of us who had been to Peru really appreciated the gustatory flashback, and loved our meals. Nice wine & beer list. Expect to wait for seating. Moderate prices.

First of all service, Luis S was brilliant and deserves a commendation, he did it just right. So a couple of days free in Chicago before a week of work, I had booked a couple of restaurants two weeks ago, the first being Tanta. Chicago was lively, it was Mexican Independence Day weekend, large vehicles were driving around with loud music and flags, it was fun. The restaurant was a two minute walk from my hotel which was handy as Jet Lag was starting to set in. On arrival my internet reservation was in order, and I had options of a bar stool or 2 seater table option, the latter was picked. Within seconds I was welcomed by Louis S, menus at the ready and left to have a browse. The menu covers a lot of delicious looking options, Louis S returned and offered descriptions of the options available which were split into protein types and food styles. I am an adventurous foodie, and have it eaten ceviche before, picked the Peruvian Cebiche, which is similar. The skewered veal heart sounded interesting, I have eaten stuffed heart as a child so that was easy, and then the final decision was the empanadas selection. To set things off a Pisco Sour was in order, it’s was perfect, the balance was incredible and went down well. The food was amazing, the Cebiche was spot on, right balance of flavours, quite complex but obviously prepared fresh. Veal Heart was beautifully cooked, very tender and served with some delicious barbecued potatoes. Empanadas spot on too, pastry was perfect, fillings generous. A lovely evening, perfect service and would highly recommend if you are in the ‘hood.

Tanta is one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago, so much that my boyfriend and I planned a trip with Tanta in mind. The food is spectacular and the service is always excellent. On our next trip to Chicago, we will definitely be dining here again!

Tanta was a recommendation from a friend and it definitely lived up to the recommendation. The bartender, G, is the best! He makes some amazing drinks. We recommend his signature drink, the El Chingon, and the Santa Maria. Our server was so sweet and personable. We never wanted for anything. The food was amazing! We had appetizers during happy hour and then ate dinner. Everything was seasoned perfectly and very fresh. The atmosphere is fun and lighthearted. If you can, sit upstairs outside. We stayed in the Loop and walked to the restaurant-an easy walk. I can't wait to go back to Chicago just to eat at Tanta. The manager stopped by our table to see how everything was-she was so sweet and shared that there is a Tanta in San Francisco. So SF, here we come.

Unfortunately this time I was disappointed by trip, shame misspent our dollars. Avoid it does not deserve and are also unprofessional

My date and I came here before seeing Hamilton at the CIBC Theater (which was fabulous, by the way) and we couldn’t have ask for more—perfect food, perfect service, perfect ambiance, perfect everything. When we come back to Chicago, one of the best foodie cities in the world, coming back here is a no-brainer. We started out with their Empanadas ($5 each), a Carne de Res, which was beef sirloin, red onion, and huacatay sauce, and a Tamal, which was choclo, sweet corn, quinoa, queso fresco, and huancaina sauce. We both favored the Tamal over the Carne because it just bursted with flavor and was delicious—the combination of the ingredients were perfect. We were tempted with the Nikei Tiraditos ($20), a Peruvian version of Japanese Sashimi made up of ahi tuna, passion fruit leche de tigre, honey, and a sesame oil elumsion. I love raw ahi tuna and the Peruvians give the Japanese a run for their money when it comes to sashimi—holy crap. I could’ve ordered a couple more plates of this and made it my meal, but there were so many amazing things on the menu, I had to keep going. For our entrees, we ordered one from the “Chefs Having Fun” section and went with the Estofado de Cordero ($34), a braised lamb hind, quinoa polenta, aji panca in a red wine reduction, and portobello mushrooms on top of fried kale. The lamb was cooked perfectly and just fell off the bone. The polenta, which is hard to get right in my opinion, was amazing—so creamy and delicous. We also ordered off the “From the Coast” section and decided on the Sudado ($29) the grilled chef’s selection of fish, prawns, clams, served with lima bean tacu-tacu, claim and aji amarillo broth. It was a perfect pairing to the Estofado. The seafood was fresh and cooked perfectly to bring out its well-balanced flavor profiles. Lastly, since we were celebrating my birthday, they brought out a medley of small desserts. Unfortunately, I didn’t know they were doing that and I didn’t see the dessert menu, so I have no idea what I ate. All I know, it that I loved it! Check out the pictures and see if you can guess what they are... and please message me! As you can read, perfect was the theme of this meal and Tanta was perfect. Our server was extremely knowledgable and proud of the menu. We were so glad to have him help us make these selections. Thank you! Come to Tanta for a delicious meal and a perfect experience.

Not as good as other Peruvian restaurants. We like Peruvian food but his this one fell short for us. The ceviches were good but the empanadas were lackluster as was the pork wok which my husband thought was too dry. The pisco sours were ok

Comfortable ding room. Reasonable prices. Great service. The drink menu and wine selection is outstanding. We needed a lot of help making decisions but our server loved discussing the options. Octopus, Cabiche, Nikkei, Anticucho and Saltado... we were overwhelmed and overjoyed. Drink an El Chingon!

We live in a small town in Ohio, where our ethnic food choices are very limited. So when we visit a big city like Chicago, we are looking for a different taste experience. Tanta definitely filled the bill! At the suggestion of our server, Edwin, we opted for several small plates to try the wide variety of flavors offered. We chose a grilled octopus with fingerling potatoes and chocla, three varieties of empanadas, and a cebiche, the national dish of Peru. All three were very different, and very tasty. I was particularly surprised at the cebiche, which was raw fish marinated in a lime juice, which actually partially "cooked" the fish. I am not a fan of raw fish, but I really enjoyed this dish. We finished our meal with a rather odd dessert, which was also interestingly flavorful. The "Elf" was listed as a single dessert on the menu, but was really two separate treats. One was a sort of firm custard filled with tangy mango sauce. Next to that was another hard to describe pastry with a chocolate filling. Hard to describe, but very yummy. Edwin was very knowledgeable and helpful in making selections. The restaurant is split into upstairs and downstairs. We were seated upstairs, which seem to have a more casual feel. Okay

Enjoyed Tanta on a Thursday evening visiting Chicago for work. My good friend picked this spot - what a great choice! Had a Prickly Pear Margarita - it was ok - not much liquor frankly. Then I enjoyed a Pisco Sour!!! Oh my! I could have had ten of these! So delicious - plenty of liquor. They go down so easy! We enjoyed a few appetizers to share - including the House Chips - don’t miss those! I enjoyed the Lomo Saltado and my friend had the Half Pollo. We both cleaned our plates. Both meats were tender, flavorful, and delicious. We ate outside - on the roof - which was a beautiful atmosphere. Service was impeccable from beginning to end. Lots of couples, gatherings of friends, and families alike. I did see kids enjoying meals with their families. Would highly recommend Tanta without hesitation.

I went to Tanta last night for dinner. The food was absolutely incredible. Our waitress was really helpful (and patient). We ordered the Pulpo, Nikei Cebiche, and the pobre for appetizers- All were incredible. For dinner we ordered: Nikei tradito, pancha marina, adobo, and the estofado de cordero. Lets just say that there was NOTHING remaining on any of our plates. My only complaint (and not enough to downgrade this to a "good review", was that the waitress forgot a drink and we never got our side dish that we ordered (not that we needed it anyway). I will for sure be going back to Tanta! -Also, the rooftop was amazing. It is first come first serve! I highly recommend!

The appetizers and entrees were delicious. The ambiance was nice. A word of advice—Remember to double check your final receipt.

Tanta is very amazing. Ambiance is great very comfortable. The place is very clean. The service was super friendly staff, very attentive, I wish every restaurant was this good at being on top of every little detail.

Visited with friend who is a fan of this style of food. We chose a selection of small and larger plates and the food was excellent, fresh and great flavours. The half chicken was a stand out. Wine list was interesting and had a good range of options. Staff also attentive and timely with service.

I came with a large group (with a reservation) on a Saturday night. They were able to accommodate us upstairs on the roof. The food was really good! We had the ceviche sampler to start. It was tasty and fresh. My only complaint is that the service was pretty slow. Sometimes it felt like they forgot about us. I would definitely eat here again.

This is a busy place that usually requires a reservation, esp on a weekend. We were able to sit at the ceviche bar and watch while we ordered from the full menu. The waiter admitted he had too many tables he was very helpful The food arrived in a flash and the drinks were delivered in a reasonable time. The food choices were spectacular and everything we chose was fresh and tasty. I would definitely go back

My daughter's choice for Christmas Eve dinner was a good one. They have a good range of food on the menu and it was all very tasty. Our waiter was first rate, very friendly and there when we need him to be. Well recommended. Good wifi.

Really great restaurant! Food is very interesting and very tasty! The service is good and the place itself is very nice.

My husband and I love Peruvian food, especially ceviche so we were really looking forward to eating here. However, it was a disappointment simply based on their prices. The service was good, the atmosphere very nice, and the food was fine. However, it was so over the top expensive, especially for what we got. We had 2 ceviche dishes, papitas tanta, and 2 glasses of wine - the total w/ tip was $140. We actually went to a Spanish tapa place a couple of hours later for something more to eat. We wanted the grilled branzino at Tanta but it was $75!!! What?? Way overpriced so that may be fine for some, but not us. We can't recommend this restaurant. (NOTE: The next day we went to Greek Island restaurant and got the most delicious grilled branzino that was beautifully fillet at the table for $27 - it was out of this world!)

On a recent trip to Chicago we wanted to try something "different" so we chose Tanta. It is a very interesting place serving Peruvian food. It is a bit noisy here so not a good place for a business dinner but it is fun. The drinks are featured on a large board behind the bar and had some very interesting combinations. The menu is a blend of South America, Japanese and, of course, Peru. Lots of fish dishes including ceviche, which we shared as a table. We also shared empanadas, shrimp and very tender beef served stir fry style with potatoes and vegetables. The server was outstanding. Very attentive but not intrusive. The vibe here is very cosmopolitan and upbeat. Overall, this is a fun place with above average food and pricing to match. While it is not inexpensive it is fun.

Went here on a Thursday night aroud 545 pm. Place was pretty quiet at that time and steadily got busier as the evening progressed. I got a $12 Salcantay mocktail that was pretty good. For food I got the Maracuya and pulpo al olivio - both were pretty good tasting though the portions were a bit small and each ran $28. Overall around $90 bucks. It was a nice different dinner, but I wouldn't be running back due to the prices.

Stopped in at happy hour for a cocktail and light snacks. Because we didn’t have reservations we sat at the bar which was great. The bartender was friendly and assisted us with our selections. The food and cocktails were delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would highly recommend.

Our second visit and was just as outstanding as we remembered. Try a pisco sour during happy hour. Don't miss one of the cebiches. We shared everything and enjoyed each dish. A superb wine list as well. Try one of their thoughtfully-selected South American reds.

The ceviche was excellent (ahi tuna was our favorite). The waitress made recommendations and we didn’t leave a bite of food behind. Choclo was deliciously flavored grilled giant-kernel corn. Do yourself a favor and order the Chaufa Aeropuerto (Pork fried rice). You won’t need to eat for the rest of the day and you’ll want to come back tomorrow. Good cocktails too! My mouth is still watering...

The restaurant came recommended as a different type of experience and food. Been to a few Peruvian restaurants before, but the different varieties offered in Tana was amazing and in spite of sharing a few dishes to get a taste of as many dishes as possible, we had to come back a second time. Wonderful and helpful staff and good suggestions for wine. A definite recommendation.

I went to lunch with my boyfriend's family, excited to find a Tanta in Chicago, however it was a huge disappointment. The grilled chicken arrived skinless, I had to ask for it to be changed, however they were not very kind about doing so. The grilled chicken was terrible, it didn't even taste like grilled chicken, the huancaína sauce was terrible too. In general very bad service. The only delicious thing was the lomo saltado, but it came with very few potatoes as seen in the photo. All bad, I would not return nor recommend it.

This is a unique restaurant that is a culinary tour de force. We have never been to a Peruvian restaurant so it was all quite new. We split the following items: Mercado ceviche, scallops with 20 month aged Parmesan foam, and the arroz con mariscos(paella-type). The freshness- the flavors- simply wow. Also had cocktails which were excellent. This is a special restaurant.

I brought a group of friends to experience authentic Peruvian food in Chicago, and everyone loved it. We shared the various appetizers and main courses. Every dish was great and the pisco sours were a big hit. The service was excellent (thanks Luis!). It was an expensive meal, but it was memorable.

Lovely second floor seating, outstanding staff, lovely decor, and then… the exceptional food! Ceviche, grilled salmon, and empanadas were amazing. Cocktails were fun, too!

Very tasty Peruvian inspired seafood and meats. Some interesting cocktails too. Server was excellent with suggestions and explanations as 3 of us shared several apps and entrees. Fairly priced, but a bit too noisy for easy conversation

We get into Tanta’s Restaurant for the Happy Hour to feel the excitement of city of Chicago 🤩 and We have. Alvaro our bartender prepared the best piso sour ever😊😊😊😊then we have some nigiri as appetizers just spectacular we decided to skip dinner and went straight to the dessert and was when karla get into the picture with the delicious “Choclito Dessert “ oh boy what a delicious treat 😍🥰Yummie Yummie in my tummy thank you Tanta’s for the wonderful stuff but the experience was above all my expectations 💪💖

Amazing food-presentation, taste and quality. The server helped in the ordering. She did a great job. Everyone was friendly and made us feel welcome. The bar area was nice and busy, but we ate at a table in the dining room and it was easy to have a conversation with the noise level. Will visit again soon!

I attended a work dinner event here in their upstairs dining room. It was a charming space that was very private. The service was excellent - we were a group of about 40-50 people, and they took very good care of us. The food was excellent! We had a special menu, with an amuse bouche of ceviche, two shared appetizers, 3 main courses served family style, and an absolutely delicious lime pie with meringue topping. Overall, a delightful experience!

My husband and I have dined here on two occasions - once on a date, and once with his parents. Although we enjoyed our meal the first time, we didn't like it enough the second time to return again. On both occasions, we made reservations for a Friday/Saturday night dinner a few weeks earlier. We tried several dishes - cebiche tasting, criollo (scallop waygu) nigiri, estofado de cordero (braised lamb hind), sudado (grilled seafood), pescado frito (fried whole fish). The cebiche is our favourite - very light and clean. While the lamb was delicious, it was too heavy - over-flavoured and over-sauced. Same goes for the fried fish and grilled seafood. Tanta is fairly pricey for what you get. Dinner costs around $60-$80 per person.

One of our first restaurants to visit post-Covid. We had a great time with delicious food and attentive service. The Pisco sour was amazing as were the empanadas, a salmon entree and chicken (pollo) skewers. We will be back our next visit to Chicago.

Another restaurant messed up our reservations so we were in a bind trying to find a great place to eat. I did a quick search on TripAdvisor and found that we were relatively close to Tanta. There were no tables available but they set us up at the bar and it was perfect. We tried many dishes and all of them were absolutely fantastic! The ceviche was phenomenal. Highly recommend a visit to Tanta.

Great food, great service and great atmosphere. If you're in the mood for interesting and tasty food that's not the same old thing this is the spot for you!

The only restaurant in this chain outside of South America, it's a fun place to be in temperate weather with the open dining room extending into a rooftop area. The food is fresh & delicious, there are plenty of different kinds of Pisco cocktails to choose from, and the staff are nice (some of them are actually Peruvian).

We called at 5:30 on a Friday night & we’re lucky to get in at 6pm. We were seated right away & had attentive servers continually filling our waters. Verity on menu that I liked. Small portions on most dishes other then main courses. They give fried plantains as you sit with a mild spice sauce for dipping which my husband really enjoyed. We started with clasica that was very good & empanadas 1-tamal & 1-pollo that we’re very tasty. I asked our waitress that was very nice which dishes were not spicy for my health reasons. We discussed at length that I can not eat spicy foods. My husband ordered lomo saltado which was good but as the name states very salty. I got the pastel de choclo. Our waitress said it came with a small garnish topping & a spicy sauce that she would hold. Upon my second bite my mouth was on fire. Though I removed the onion garnish the spicy sauce must have still been added on top. I notified our waitress & she volunteered a glass of milk to calm the hot spice. Unfortunately that ruined my meal. She apologized but it made me weary about returning.

I cannot get enough of their Pisco Sours! Food was exceptional. and service was just right. A big shout out to their Passion Fruit pie. Absolute gem.

We had a great time with friends. The service was super friendly, accommodating our needs. The food was exquisite! My favorite were the heart anticuchos and the tres leches dessert.

My friend and I were getting off of work and looking for a place to grab a small dinner (and a drink!) We had originally planned on finding a casual eatery, but I'm so happy he suggested this restaurant! Make no mistake, this isn't a casual restaurant and it's not cheap - but it's WELL worth the money. The wine was delicious and reasonable - $45 a bottle. And the food was EXCELLENT! We had the nigiri, scallops, and dessert. Each was better than the last and I can't wait to go back.

All along a business trip week it was the best restaurant experience! The food is so yummy and delicious, it was one of my best restaurant experience ever. Thx to our waitress Carla. Thank you so much!

This is a busy/happening place with great food but so noisy it's not a place you want to visit if you want a good conversation, especially if there are more than two of you at a table (we were a table of 8). The Peruvian dishes were terrific and quite large; plenty to share so order carefully if you're not a big eater. Two of us split the deliciious Cebiche Vegetariano seasonal mix vegetable appetizer and the Chaufa Aeropuerto (stir-fried rice with pork, shrimp and egg). The latter was superb but so big we couldn't finish, even after sharing with others at the table. But worth every bite we had. Service was disappointing; the waiter hustled but still got our drink orders wrong; then, she deliberately withheld one of the couple's appetizers. When we asked where it was, she explained that we had so many other dishes arriving at our table, she decided to hold that one back--until after all the main courses were served. So one couple just sat and watched and waited as the rest of us starting eating our appetizers. We offered to share but they said they were waiting for their order to arrive.

A restaurant with well presented dishes and good taste, first class attention and the cozy atmosphere ... The prices are a little high but reasonable for everything they offer, I recommend it!

Had a really awful experience at this restaurant! My partner almost choked on their steak and quail egg appetizer! It’s supposed to be rare and melt in your mouth tender or so the server told us ! Instead it was chewy and needed to be cut with a knife to be edible! The tuna dish we had was excellent and the Empanadas good ! But the cocktails used low quality alcohol and were avoidable! A meal for two was $ 180 and the location is noisy with loud base music and hard for conversation unless you shout ! Over a hipster Chicago place with dodgy food and high noise levels!

I drove two hours to Chicago to celebrate my birthday based on the great reviews, specifically to have my favorite-ceviche. I was so disappointed. I grew up in a peruvian household, have had it made by family in the US, been to other restaurants in the US, had it in Peru at fine dining and even at mercados. This was the absolute worst ceviche I've ever had. There was no flavor. It tasted like lime juice only on top of the fish with no other spices or flavors. The waitress explained to me that the limes are different here than in Peru. Um I don't think that's the only problem. I also ordered lomo Saltado. The bottom was drenched in soy sauce. Thats an ingredient but shouldn't overwhelm the dish. It was better than the ceviche. I'm never one to turn down ceviche but I've finally found the worst tasting ceviche in my life. The ambiance of the restaurant was fun. The waitress was ok. The price of the food does not match the quality. I will never be back.

I was visiting my son at college and we decided to go somewhere nice for lunch, that wasn’t typical college kid food! We had gone to Peru a few years ago and loved it there and also loved the food. I saw Tanta as I was looking for ideas and said let’s go there! I’m so glad we did. The food was wonderful! The appetizers and the Pisco sour were also a great treat ! I would definitely go back again and try other menu items or even the same ones! Service was also good .

Tanta is located in River North in a lively area of Chicago. It is a Peruvian restaurant with the interesting Asian influences that Peruvian food has due to the large Japanese population and their influence on the culture and food in Peru. The menu has many different options, with Cebiches, Anticuchos (skewers), Peruvian sashimi and many fish and meat main courses. We had multiple appetizers including spicy empanadas, a melange Cebiche and an interesting garlic whipped potatoes with raw ahi on top. All very flavorful. For dinner the women had the octopus skewer plus a vegetable dish, the guys had loma Saltado which was an Asian flavored beef tenderloin stir fry that was excellent plus a chicken skewer that was very flavorful. My wife had a top shelf Pisco Sour which was great. Our server was outstanding with great overall service and good suggestions in terms of the meal overall and the specific dishes. Very fun and great food.

Tanta Is it possible to give this a 10 star instead of a 5? What are the words to describe Tanta? Amazing dishes, terrific ceviches , attentive service and memorable are just a few. Do study the online menu before you go and look up unfamiliar words and dishes. This will save you from going agog when you are presented with the menu real time. If new to Peruvian food you are in for a culinary awakening. The first offering on the menu is Niguiris Nikei. Nikei is the fusion of flavors created by adding Japanese technique to existing Peruvian dishes. One of these blends which we tried is called pobre. This is wagku skirt steak, quail egg chalaca with ponzu gel. This is an amazing blend of flavors. Next we tried the two causitas. They are whipped Peruvian potatoes layered with various ingredients like crab, tuna, chicken or sunchokes. The classic is red crab, red tobiko, avocado, tomato, egg and huancaina. The nikei has ahi tuna, avocado, nori, cucumber, wan wasabi tobiko rocot cream. Both were outstanding. Finally after working our way through an empanada selection we found our way to the hit of the evening: Pescado Fritto. This darling was a fried whole fish. The preparation and presentation was ten stars. Basically the fish was split, the meat removed, cubed and fried with a spicy nikei sauce and then repackaged into the fried fish carcass. This little guy with mouth wide open and tail in the air seemed to be smiling at us and saying “eat me”. The photo says it all. One note about their recommended cocktail, the pisco sour should be made. This is a great pre-dinner cocktail. However, because of the sugar, lime and egg white I would not recommend it with the meal. Not only would more than one of these act as an appetite suppressant but for my taste would interfere with full appreciation of the complexity of the food. Do have one pre-dinner, they are great. Tanta is an easy walk from the North River Area Hotels.

I am studying at the Newberry Library, and wanted to have some Peruvian food. TANTA hit the spot. I cam for happy hour. The service was fantastic. The Cebiche was fresh and so good. Empanadas were so so yummy. Happy hour apps are all $5-$9. Come here if you are in Chicago.

A little pricey but the food and drinks are amazing! The vibe is great and lively. Empanada was very good and our entrees were scrumptious.

When you come to Tanta definirely try the things I mentioned in the title of this review. My partner and I tried them and we'd rate every meal 5/5, ridiculously good food. This even made us consider traveling to Peru for our next vacation!

A wonderful meal - our server did a great job helping us navigate the menu and the results were universally delicious. The fried whole fish with chili sauce, the empanadas, the pork fried rice volcano bowl with the chinese omlette on top was - meyow!

When I’m craving my latin flavors I walk a couple of streets to Tanta... great vive .. amazing fresh food and balance flavors... signature drinks ( my prefered one is El Chingon) try the Empandas and the Ceviches are outstanding...

My wife and I dined at Tanta one evening during a business conference I attended in Chicago this past July. The food was very eclectic being a fusion of Peruvian and Chicagoan street food. My wife had the Anticuchos, which is grilled skewers of salmon with haucatay sauce. I had the Chaufa Areopuerto, which is fried rice, pork belly, veggie shrimp omelet and nikkei sauce. It was a scintillating variety of flavors. We shared a piece of dark chocolate cake for dessert. We have eaten at good Peruvian restaurants in Providence, Rhode Island and Portland, Oregon. This was another one to add to the list.

We had a group of 8. Our waiter did a good job helping us understand the menu and beverages. I had the Pollo a la Brasa, a half chicken, salad greens, fried potatoes wedges with bean and rice in a separate bowl. Quite a lot of food to eat. The chicken was very tasty. Good meal. My wife had the sangria blanco which was good. I had a glass of rose but was disappointed in the amount of rose served. $100 for 2 beverages, 2 meals, tip.

Gaston Acurio is the "patron saint" of Peruvian cuisine. He opened up Tanta in 2013, and brought this amazing food to the attention of Chicago. This was my third visit to Tanta, and why this restaurant doesn't have a Michelin star is beyond me. Everything, and I mean everything we tasted, was incredible. This was our best dining experience in Chicago. Run with precision by the delightful manager Katie, she has her eyes on everything, greeting diners, mixing drinks, making food suggestions, and doing anything she must to make your dining experience the very best. Restauranteurs should clone her, and we would all benefit. Tanta meets everyone's needs, from the refreshing Ceviche, to the hearty empanadas. Entrees are gourmet delights, catering to all tastes and needs. Cocktails are inventive, unique, and add to Tanta's fun quotient. Everyone is having a great time, but the sound level is perfect, making conversation easy. Even the visual design of the restaurant is wonderful, with quirky touches adding to the South American elegance. Service is professional, with just the right amount of "twinkle." Tanta has to be one of the best restaurants in Chicago. It is a must visit.

Not a good experience at all. Great food, terrible service by an insensitive waitress. Felt mistreated and that this lady totally disregarded the fact that as a Peruvian customer, I would have expected to be properly welcomed. Not coming back for sure. Who cares about the food. Service is a priority, or should be.

Absolutely amazing food. From start to finish it was 5-star food. Pablo, our waiter, chose all the dishes: ceviche Classico, octopus, steak, sea bass, empanadas. The desserts were also amazing, particularly the passion fruit pie. Great drinks as well. Definitely coming back

Excellent restaurant with a lively vibe and delicious food options ! The things we tried were all excellent !! Portion sizes good and the drinks excellent! We will definitely return !!

This is a restaurant that you need to visit. The food is phenomenal! We had the Classic ceviche for an appetizer, main courses Arroz Mariscos and Lomo Saltado. Very tasty and flavorful. Service was excellent and our waiter spent some time explaining the menu. He seemed to want us to have a great experience. Only complaint…it was busy and a bit noisy.

Over all the place meet my expectation, very good food service and ambiance. A little high priced, but worth the visit.

Superlative culinary experience. Food is amazing, ambiance is gorgeous and service is very attentive. Bravo to the chef!

The 5 of us ordered 4 servings of Huevos Tanta, plus calimari and avocado toast appetizers, and a chicken entree. Our waiter was very attentive overall and with one guest’s food allergies. Everything was over-the-top delicious.

Awful. Expensive food in small portions - not just because they emphasize small plates but because they appear to be stingy. Chicken "stew" turnovers were dry and flavorless. The beef tenderloin skewer was the worst - the beef was full of grisitle and the scallop dish was essentially two scallops on a bed of salt (that looked like rice). Give a warning about the salt! The staff tried to rush us through the meal and would not stop pestering us to order more food (or the "meta mesage" - leave). The chocolate dessert was good and prevented the evening from being a total loss. Stay away from this place.

Amazing Peruvian food. The food was good, the Pisco Sour was amazing and the service was great as well. We had a wonderful experience.

We got there right at 6 and got a table...I'd recommend if you dont have a reservation. Wait staff was so warm and helpful. Food was delicious and an experience that's a must!!

Very nice place to taste Peruvian cuisine. Nice wine list. Smiling and very available service. Good value for money for the meal, excessive for the wines. Still worth discovering

We had 4 different small plates and 4 different entrees. All were fabulous. Chocolate mousse dessert was one of the best I’ve had. Great cocktails. Wonderful service. I highly recommend.

When you walk into Tanta, you know you’ve arrived at a special place. The ambience is welcoming and festive. Aromas fill the air hinting at what’s to come. We were warmly greeted and our service was impeccable all evening. I brought a group of 14 to Tanta yesterday after a full day of meetings. We had a private room upstairs and we totally enjoyed the experience. After some much needed cocktails, we enjoyed sharing three first courses and two second courses, followed by dessert. My favorite first course was the Empanada de Tamal. A crunchy pastry filled with quinoa, sweet corn, queso fresco with huancaina sauce satisfied our appetites while leaving us wanting to try more. The Cebiche Criollo was a seafood ceviche that was light and refreshing. The Anticucho de Veggie was a skewer of veggies on top of potatoes. All flavorful and delicious. The Lomo Saltado was my absolute favorite flavor profile of the evening. This has tender beef in a tasty garlic-soy sauce with onions, tomatoes, and rustic potatoes. We also enjoyed the Pollo a la Brasa, a slow roasted chicken, Peruvian style, again with crispy potatoes and vegetables. For desert we all had carrot cake and ice cream. We also had a taste of a chocolate pudding with a crunchy quinoa on top. Although dense and rich, I preferred that to the carrot cake. The bar tender, food server and host were all attentive, fun and well-versed in the cultural influences in the food. Our group had fun. The private room upstairs allowed us to hear each other. We relaxed, enjoyed the company and especially the food. I’ll be back.

By far the best Peruvian food I have ever experienced in Chicago area. The atmosphere and service is impeccable as well. Their ceviche, jalea and fried rice are my favorite dishes. The cocktails are pretty impressive as well, especially la guapa and pisco sour

We went on a Friday and sat at the bar so we could sample several items on the happy hour menu. We loved everything we had, cebiche, causa, and bao. We enjoyed our drinks, especially the pisco sour and el chingon. We also ordered an entree, arroz con mariscos. Everything was well presented and delicious. It was fresh and flavorful. The staff was friendly and helpful in describing ingredients and preparation processes. Our whole experience was extremely positive.

Stopped by for brunch & we had a feast! From browsers chicken, beef heart, ceviche, rice to potatoes and salad; everything was delicious. Would definitely return.

I visited this restaurant early in August. My waiter was helpful and nice, but that's all good I can write about the restaurant. The drinks are not tasty, my was supposed to be tropical and sweet and was instead too sour. The portions of food are small, too expensive, and not tasty. Wea ordered 3 types of ceviche, which only had trace amounts of shrimp and fish. Definitely not worth $29.

I went here for dinner with a business group. As I have never eaten Peruvian food, this was my introduction to this cuisine. Other than being familiar with ceviche - and Tanta’s is terrific - I had never eaten any of the dishes on our limited menu. Our 3 appetizers and 2 main dishes were beautifully seasoned and prepared. The bar and waitstaff assigned to our group - Sean and Ivan (?) - were attentive and knowledgeable and made for a delightful evening.

We had our business holiday party here this year and we couldn't have been happier with the food and service. We were in a private room with a set menu and the dishes were original and delicious. Cocktails were also excellent.

Rarely, but it may just apply to all who travel to US to make Chicago the first stop, like me. After the exhaustion of the long hours in the air, Tanta’s cooking is what people would just need. It’s warm and seducing.

The menu was really interesting and this is what drew me in. That said, the food was very good, but non uniformly so. I loved the empanadas, but the grilled corn (choclo con queso) not so much. It was pretty mushy. The beef main course (lomo saltado) was great.

This place was excellent. The ceviche and tiradito options were amazing. They are priced like sushi, and you get a similar amount of food. Order all of the appetizers and skewers, and then fill up on the Lomo Saltado. I'd love to go back.

How wonderful to find a legit Peruvian flavor in Chicago! We had such a great time having drinks (I love Pisco Sour), appetizers, and Chaufa Aeropuerto! Everything was excellent. The happy hour chicken skewer must be ordered. The small cebiche is also delicious. But the workhorse for the evening was the Chaufa. Exquisite flavors are well mixed in this entree. I thought we would not be able to finish, but it was all gone Service was friendly and attentive (thanks, Fernando). I must go back to try other entrees.

Innovative cocktails and good Peruvian food. Great ceviches. exquisite desserts. Not easy to find...

On Saturday July 20, 2024, we could have had the best dinner we have ever had in Chicago. Unfortunately, despite the most amazing food at Tanta/Chicago, which evoked my experiences in Lima’s Gaston & Astrid, La Mar, Panchita and Barra Calacha, it was quickly soured by the floor manager at Tanta/Chicago. He asked my girlfriend and I to vacate the table as we had been there for over 90 minutes! Our reservation was for the rooftop at 6:15 pm to which we showed up promptly. It took the team about 15 minutes to seat us. We ordered cocktails and those took about 15 minutes to get to our table. Then the first dishes arrived, a Salmon Tiradito, which was truly the best I’ve ever had. Followed by a Classic Ceviche which was good. Then another 15 minutes before the grilled octopus arrived, also amazing. Then another 20 minutes for the last dish, the Amazon grilled Branzini which was truly the best grilled fish I have ever had. It was my girlfriend’s birthday we were celebrating but before we ordered dessert, the floor manager came to clear the table and proceed to tell us we needed to move quickly as we had been at the table for more than 90 minutes and people were waiting to be seated. There are no signs and we were not told we only had 90 minutes to gobble our food! I was in true disbelief on how this man had completely ruined an almost perfect evening! Out of the 90 minutes we were seating at the table, a full 65 minutes were waiting for the table or the dishes to arrive. The food truly deserves 5 stars! The serving staff, who were most attentive and Swan, the waiter, who was consistently on target in everything he recommended was completely ruined by their manager who blatantly lied as there was NO ONE waiting to be seated when we left. There was at least one large table on the rooftop and several on the first floor that were empty. I have been a fan of Gaston Acurio forever, I have his cookbooks, I visit his restaurants in Lima at least twice every time I’m in Lima. This man, who was rude and definitely not representing the Gaston Acurio hospitality and completely ruining their amazing welcoming culture. I was so happy to find a Gaston Acurio restaurant in my new city but not sure I’ll go back as I don’t want to be mistreated again. Our dinner for two was $300.00, one would expect better treatment at such a fine and expensive establishment. Re-training the floor manager as to NOT BE RUDE and NOT LIE is definitely warranted!!

We make it a point to hit this spot every time we are in Chicago......sometimes more than once. The food is great, service is good, and the atmosphere is bustling but fun. We've dined inside and out, if the weather is nice, take the outside seating.

The incredible experience we had at this restaurant is due mainly to our exceptional server (and I am currently horrified that I cannot remember his name...it had been three weeks since we ate there and my sister has our receipt). We were so glad that he asked if we had eaten there before because our answer allowed him to guide us through our choices. He explained the portion sizes, the unique ingredients, the levels of spiciness we might encounter, and that we could keep the menus with us and order more if we were still hungry. That advice was so highly valued. The chicken stew empanada we had was delicious. We also had the clasica causitas which was so delicate and refreshing. We also enjoyed the pastel de choclo tremendously. Even the crispy cracker-like treats that were served with one of the dishes we ordered we yummy. We tried the pisco sour which was good but strong for me. By the time we were done with all the small shared dishes we were full. However, we could not turn down a look at the dessert menu. Oh, we are so glad we chose to look at that menu. I got the cheesecake de chicha morada. Oh, my. Purple corn cheesecake. It was unlike any dish I have ever had. The presentation matched the deliciousness - it was exquisite in all aspects. My sister got the chocolate mousse with roasted quinoa. It was also delicious, but mine was better, in my humble opinion. This was a tremendous meal. I am not a wealthy person, but I love to eat, and I have eaten in many fine restaurants from NYC to Las Vegas to Chicago to Paris to Sydney to Israel to Canada to Indianapolis (Have you eaten there? Don't laugh they have some fine restaurants...Mesh is one of my faves) to Washington, D.C. The food here is incredible, and the service was impeccable. Our waiter (whose name I must and will remember (and add here when I do) is comparable to that of Youseff who took care of a friend and me in July of 2001 at the Tavern on the Green in NYC. A great meal is made better by great service. I highly recommend this restaurant.

I’ve been stalking their social media for months now & last night was finally the time. I have to state their “nikkei” menu is the most intriguing. Also although far from being a highlight it’s worth mentioning that the stewed chicken empanada was bearable & I hate empanadas. The chicken was fatty & I attribute that to it being chicken thighs. The salmon skewers & “MAKI “EL ANTICUCHERO” roll were just ok, nothing worth mentioning. Now on to seriously one of the best & cheapest bites in all of Chicago. NIGIRI “EL POBRE” was a very flavorful & intriguing dish. The addition of the quail egg atop an extremely savory wagyu steak sushi roll is genius. A must try

We don't all wake up and say "I'll have Peruvian food for dinner." But we should. Tant is delicious. Our dining experience was greatly enhanced by our waiter, I just wish I could remember his name. The ceviche trio was delightful. The Lomo Saltado was worth trying. And that was all we had room for! Atmosphere was nice but a tad loud. I would definitely go back again and try more of the menu

This was such a unique culinary experience and so, so good! The mix of cultural influences is so prevalent in the food. It's amazingly composed and seasoned - love it! Highly recommend.

I wanted to treat my Chicago friends to an authentic Peruvian meal; after living in Peru for many years, I love typical Peruvian cuisine and actually prepare it often myself. But... this food had all the right names, listed the right ingredients (for the most part), but Peruvian flavor was simply not there. Cancha floating in the leche de tigre instead of served separately. Wet, soggy cancha??? Huancaina sauce that had no hint of rocoto or of Peruvian cheese (Velveeta, anyone?). Chaufa that was so sticky and gloppy that it had to be scraped off the serving spoon instead of the arroz graneado that one finds without fail in Peru. We ordered the churrasco medium, but if it had been any rarer, it would have still been alive. The waiter (who wasn't Peruvian and didn't know the difference) shrugged and said it was because they couldn't get genuine ingredients here. Nonsense! I have found genuine Peruvian ingredients all over the country in cities much less cosmopolitan than Chicago. Was the food bad? Not necessarily, though not necessarily good either, but it was Peruvian in name only. The waiter said the plates were large and meant for sharing. Are you kidding me??? The entrees were smaller than most entrees we commonly see, the appetizers were adequate for one person, and not generous servings even for one person. So we went away hungry, even though the meal was over $80 apiece. The one redeeming factor was the drinks, which were decent, otherwise it would have been one star.

Not very impressed. They add a lot of sugar to the dishes. I felt that I had desserts instead of savory dishes.

This is the place for the real-deal Peruvian ceviche! Their ceviche clasica and tiradito are the best we’ve found outside Cusco. The Leche de Tigre packs a wallop of flavors and if we had more time in Chicago, we would be back for a second visit. Also, ditto on their Pisco Sour. A total yum-fest, indeed!

My wife and I were walking past this restaurant during a recent visit so had a look at the menu and thought we’d give it a try. What a find! We had an excellent dinner of 3 tapas-like starters and 1 main course and that was loads of food. All of it was excellent in terms of taste and presentation. Of particular note was the mixed seafood plate. The staff were also friendly and helpful with menu choices. If I lived in Chicago I’d be a regular

We visit here for a trade show every March, and after a 2 year break were back and ready to sample on of the best restaurants we have ever been to. We were delighted to find the food was as good as ever, the atmosphere was fantastic and the service as good as always! There were people enjoying Pisco Sours at the bar, our cocktails were punchy and well made, the starters and mains were to die for, and we had the best time!! A must visit if you're in Chicago!

Great atmosphere and food. They have a great selection of small plates and larger entrees. The ceviche sampler and empanadas were delicious. They also have a good selection of drinks- have to try the pisco. Nice atmosphere. I would definitely recommend getting reservations.

This is a very popular restaurant that is always full. As a result, waiters are a little overwhelmed and keep forgetting orders, making mistakes on the check, and getting confused as they rush by you. We tried four different kinds of ceviche (one was a ceviche tasting platter with 3 different kinds.) The ceviche was fine, there's nothing wrong with it but it's not spectacular either. The anticuchos were not great at all. Where this restaurant really delivers is the dessert. I'm not a great fan of desserts but the alfajores and the pie de limón that we ordered were sublime. If the restaurant managed to elevate the rest of the food and also the service to this level, it would be a truly great place.

This place is just great. Service is outstanding and the food is so unique, thoughtful and approachable. You have to get a quick lesson on how the menu works and some Peruvian basic ingredient/style tutorial. There is enough on the menu that i need to go back many times to try everything. And I'm going to!!!

Prior to us jetting off for a long weekend in Chicago (and upon reading the many good reviews) we booked a table at Tanta intrigued by its Peruvian menu. With it being a sunny Friday evening we switched our inside table for one on the 1st floor terrace. Busy with people enjoying after work cocktails and the sun beaming down created a relaxed vibrant atmosphere. With help from the waiting staff we decoded the menu and ordered our dishes and started with strong but delicious cocktails. The food then promptly followed served similar to tapas which we shared between us thoroughly enjoying the exotic flavours. Our only reason for not giving Tanta 5/5 was that the dishes arrived at the table only warm and not hot (we did highlight this): however each was still tasty and nothing was left uneaten !

We went to Tanta with a friends recommendation. I must say all the dishes that we tried were amazing! The place was super busy but we managed to get a table as we reserved a table earlier. It’s a little pricey but worth the price for special occasion. Quite lively place. The waiter took a while to take our order but compensated with a free dessert!

Obviously, on a Friday night most restaurants are busy and Tanta is no exception. This restaurant specializes in up scale Peruvian dining. The staff is attentive and bilingual which adds to the experience, and helped to improve my "Spanglish". The upper half of the menu is devoted to shareable plates. We had Causitas which are whipped Peruvian potatoes and aji. For those not familiar ajis are small, flavorful peppers with about the same level of heat as a summer Poblano. It was a vehicle for a delicious concoction of red crab, red tobiko, avocado, tomato, egg, and huancaina which is a aji pepper cream sauce. The Cebiche tasting trio is a must, as are the beef cheek empanadas. The pulpo (octopus) Anticuchos was very tender and flavorful. This combination of sigle orders creates a full meal. It paired well with my gorgeous tablemates Astrolabe sauvignion blanc and my Kentia albarino. Our desert flan and coffee top off a wonderful meal.

Tanta does a number of things very well, but we also came across two negatives that may or may not matter to you. Tanta is justifiably popular. The restaurant services Peruvian food, including ceviche, and the food is well prepared. The service is highly attentive, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic. The decor is chic and matches the atmosphere of the food itself. For the most part we had a good experience. We did have two negatives. One is a nitpick of ours, which is having a snooty host or hostess. The guys on the old car talk show famously described them as "sneer merchants." This is an upscale casual restaurant and a good host should be warm and welcoming. Ours never allowed a smile, avoided direct eye contact, and mumbled something to the effect that we could only stay for 90 minutes (yes, we had long-standing reservations). I responded that as long as they served the food reasonably timely that would not be a problem. Given the high level of service at this restaurant, that would in fact not be a problem, but I got an almost comic book look back of astonishment that I would dare respond so. I admit that expecting a host to be reasonably welcoming is a personal preference of mine, but I cannot believe it is not shared by others - the host or hostess can set the tone for the evening. Everyone else at the restaurant, by the way, was welcoming and friendly. The second, and this may be important for you, is the noise level. We were here on a Friday before Memorial Day and the bar, which is in the center of the restaurant, appeared to be full of office workers enjoying the beginning of the long weekend. The noise level was such that we had difficulty hearing the wait staff and each other for about 50 of the 90 minutes allotted to us by the hostess. This may not be a problem later in the evening or on days other than Fridays, but it may be important to you. I'd probably come here again other than on a Friday.

One of Chicago’s finest restaurants. You don’t have to be an expert on Peruvian or Latin food to appreciate the fine cuisine here. We dream of going back.

I’ve lived in Peru so when I have visited Peruvian restaurants here in the States, I typically leave missing Peru more. Not tonight. Our waitress was Jo and she was fantastic. We sat at the Ceviche bar and were able to watch the culinary art first hand. The ceviche was as I remembered although I prefer the classic type so don’t go all crazy. The Conchitas a la Parmesana were delicious. Please know the serving sizes are very generous which is another thing to keep in mind. Share appetizers, share dinner, and share dessert if you want to try different dishes. We enjoyed our Pisco sours and for dessert, Jo brought the mazamorra cheesecake. Oh wow! The whipped cream, merengue, pineapple, and cinnamon made me feel like I was in Peru again. It’s pricey but like I suggested, share share share.

Bigger and slicker than I expected from other reviews but still great overall. Attentive and friendly service. LOVED my main, “the adobo,” a beer braised pork shoulder, would’ve gone well with a glass of wine if it was that kind of a night. It is a full-on brick of meat, so bring your appetite or be prepared for top shelf leftovers. Pollo empanada appetizer tasty but a bit tired. Would definitely recommend to a friend.

Couldn’t get a reservation on opentable, so I called. They were very accommodating. We shared a causita and then each of us had an entree. Also had the piscina sour and caipirinha. Everything was excellent and the service was wonderful.

Wonderful spot and reasonable prices. Service was great. Waiter was friendly and helpful. Fries were especially good!!

Food was absolutely beautiful in presentation and delicious in taste. Empenades, skewers were great appetizers…beef in wok was perfectly done. Wait staff were polite and attentive. Ambience on a summer evening on rooftop perfect Seemed a bit expensive for the amount of food received. Easy to get to $125-150 range with only 2 beers. Overall a great night. Would probably do again purely for the quality of the food and atmosphere

Tonight we celebrated a birthday with close friends from Paraguay. We were pleasantly surprised with the wonderful service, watchful attention, amazing Pisco Sour, world class appetizers and perfectly balanced main courses. Our server was Jamie and she gave beautiful explanations for every offering. This was our first visit to Tanta and we are anxious to visit again soon. Mark J

My wife and I had a 6 pm reservation on a Friday evening. We were seated promptly and a server immediately took drink orders. Our waiter, Luis, was very helpful in explaining the menu. We ordered empanadas as an appetizer and they were excellent. We ordered the whole chicken to share, with French fries and a large salad. The whole rotisserie chicken was good, but tasted a great deal like a Walmart rotisserie chicken. I was expecting more spicy or seasoned uniquely. It was just okay. We had a rooftop table with fantastic city views. The service was great, but the synthesized 80’s music was distracting. The fries weren’t great, but the salad was plentiful. I would stick with meat empanadas and a salad next trip. Prices were reasonable. We had enough food for 4 people for $93 before tip and I had two $8 beers!

We have fallen in love with this restaurant. Every time we go to Chicago, this is a must-eat place for us! It is a bit expensive, but so worth the cost. Food melts in your mouth and all meat falls off the bone. Presentation is great and staff is exceptional! A great find!!!

It has been years since we have dined at Tanta again. We came in with high hopes and eager to have the tasty food that Tanta is famous for. Nevertheless, when we looked at the menu, the prices have been increased! While hesitant at first, we decided to go with it and order anyways. As soon as the plates arrived, the portions were incredibly small, and my family left the restaurant hungry (we are small and we fill up fast for reference). We are extremely disappointed because Tanta has never been like this. In other franchises, portions are larger and prices are lower. Food was tasty but too expensive for its worth and portions, and the service was great.

We were visiting from California and wanted something other than the typical steak house experience. We also wanted an downtown Chicago rooftop experience. At first the menu was confusing but our helpful server helped us navigate with great suggestions. The food was a fantastic fusion of flavors and the atmosphere enchanting. We sat on the roof with the lights of Chicago sparkling outside. We have already recommended this restaurant to our Chicago friends.

I was looking for a quality place to take my wife for my birthday and happened to come across Tanta. I checked out the menu before hand and felt this would be a great choice. Upon arrival, the aroma of delicious food was circulating in the air and I was getting hungrier by the minute. As we sat down, we started with some piano sours which were amazing!! Our server Fabio was extremely patient and helpful - my wife has a garlic sensitivity so he was cautious to check the items were interested in and giving us amazing suggestions. I had conchitas a la parmesana which were delicious and my main course was the jalea tanta which was a fried seafood medley with fried yucca. Dessert was finished off with cheesecake which was heavenly. From begging for to end, Tanta went above and beyond and made this an excellent experience and a very happy Birthday for my wife!

This Peruvian restaurant is always packed with people and has very good ratings in general. I had an octopus grill as appetizer and white fish with crab meat topping as main course. The food was tasty but I’d not call it extraordinary. The restaurants I frequent in Connecticut are certainly more authentic and less expensive if not as upscale as Tantas.

Had the best pisco sours, ever. The empanadas and the anticuchos of veal heart were superb. Then we split the arroz en su tinta (rice, sea food, squid ink) as good as it gets. Efficient service.

We has a great time and loved the food. The ceviche was one of the best I’ve had. Really recomended, loved it!

Dee-licious! Large portions to share, so many choices. Great service, too. Going back later this week.

I go there for the most authentic Peruvian food that you can find in Chicago. All the appetizers are excellent, and I have tried all of them. The service is truly superb. On my last trip there, my main dish was a little salty, the waitress told the chefs, and he came out, and apologized, and offered to remake the dish for free. I was already full from the appetizer, and declined the offer, and told them not to worry. They ended up taking it off the bill. Truly truly a great place. Beware it is on the pricey side, and reservations recommended.

This restaurant came highly recommended and we had dinner here last night. We were seated upstairs, absolutely terrible service, waited for drinks and food for a very long time, food was good but very overpriced. Would never go again; there are definitely better options in Chicago.

Service was spot on, food was fabulous. Tried ceviche, empanada, and a couple of the seafood dishes. All delicious!

Nice dining room, rooftop is wonderful (Lots of steps if that's an issue). Great drinks (El Chingon) good wine list. Share it all, Empanadas, Cebishes, Anticuchos, Saltado... octopus, veal, chicken, brisket... Our server knew the menu well and was extremely helpful. Reasonable prices.

The staff were helpful and attentive, food and drink excellent, and the ambience on the roof terrace on a hot Chicago evening turned this into a memorable evening!

Amazing food and wonderful service!l From the apps to the deserts and of course the main course nothing dissapointed us! Yum!!

Tanta was an absolutely great experience from the beginning to the end. The restaurant is so vibrant with all the graffiti and decorations, filled with good mood and great food, only makes me thinking of coming back again. Their menu contain lots of options and its mostly meant to be shared with diners. Our server Oscar was just great and explained everything to us precisely. Cebiche Trio-great way of tasting all ceviches , Classico, Limeno, and Nikkei. All of them were so refreshing and delicious, hard to say which one was my favorite one. Corazon--tender veal hearts served with aioli. I always search for something very genuine if it comes to food and that was definitely it. Tender, steak like flavor, definitely a must. Octopus--very big fan of all octopus dishes here. Octopus was delicious, very tender but not on my top list, was lacking that spicy--citrusy kick maybe?? Otherwise very delectable. Pescado Nikkei--whole Sea Bass , deboned, deep fried, served with sweet chili sauce and bok choy. It was delicious to the last bite. Its perfect to share among three people. Rose--this dessert was a great accompaniment to the whole dinner, subtle, not to sweet. We took a bottle of very good Albarino and some drinks which were perfect. Thank you Tanta fir a great and delicious evening !! :)

Three couples having a friends reunion (Cincinnati, Orlando, Phoenix) in Chicago. Ate at Tanya our first night and loved it! From the Pisco Sours to the ceviche, to the aeropuerto to the taro chips & sauce everyone was satisfied with their food and we had a sweet new server (Ingrid?) who did a great job on a busy, noisy night in this very popular spot.

Oour waitress Jeimmy was very helpful and explained the menu in detail. We ate tapas style, ordering one or two items at a time. All the food was tasty and attractively plated.

A Peruvian friend recommended this restaurant, and I’m glad she did. Since we knew nothing about this cuisine, our waitress, Jeimmy, took her time explaining the menu and making recommendations. We tried the Criollo Cebiche, which was amazing, with plenty of seafood. It could have done with less marinade, but it was very delicately flavored and delicious. The chicken empanada was one of the best I’d eaten, nice and flaky with lots of flavor. We decided to order an entree, and chose the Lomo Saltado. This had been recommended by my friend, and this must be some type of Peruvian comfort food. Perfectly prepared tenderloin, potato wedges, and onions in a delicious broth. Wow! Finally we decided in dessert. Actually, we had two. We ordered the cookies and ice cream, but since we were celebrating an anniversary they also brought out a cheesecake free of charge. The cookies were made from quinoa flour and were delicate and flaky. The cheesecake was soft and delicious, and topped with pineapple and pear. Amazing. Overall I was very impressed. The service was top notch, from Jeimmy to the servers, and we look forward to returning soon.

This was our 2nd visit to Tanta. The service was great and timely. The food is creative, large variety and of course we over eat again. The cocktails are also creative and good.

Tanta has a strong variety of small plate and large plate Peruvian dishes. It's probably worth asking about the portion size for each item, as an empanada with fresh pork was outstanding, but barely more than a taste for one person, while the quinoa and burrata salad was big enough for three people. One must-have item at Tanta is a pisca sour cocktail. It has several types, but the standard one was exceptional.

Came with our son and college friend for dinner. Loved the chicken/beef empanada. Lomo saltado was outstanding, very tender. Poplo and cebiche de esquina were great apps. Would definitely go back

Wow, Everything about our experience at Tanta was amazing. We were enthusiastically welcomed, and our server was knowledgable about the menu, but also invited the chef to visit our table to tell us about a few of his favorites that evening. The drinks, Pisco Sour, mezcal cocktails and sangria were very flavorful, refreshing and balanced (not sweet) and the food was off the charts great. The dishes were interesting, fresh, and flavors combined well together. We started with a mixed seafood ceviche, then had a few of their traditional dishes lomo saltado and chaufa aeropuerto, a really flavorful pork and shrimp rice tortilla dish and then added the grilled octopus which turned out to be a real hit. And don't pass on dessert. We weren't going to go there, but glad we did. Beautiful and delicious we enjoyed a desert with toasted quinoa as well as one with a raspberry sorbet. We'll be back!

Tapas style Peruvian cuisine at a good location just a few blocks from the Magnificent Mile. Service was excellent, our waiter was friendly and helpful in assisting us navigate the menu and making recommendations. Atmosphere was nice, busy, but not too loud where you have to shout at the person across the table to hear. The El Chingon and Pisco Sour cocktails were especially tasty. Food was excellent too. Complimentary taro chips kept us munching between the different small courses. We had the Pobre (nigiri), Lomo Saltado, Criollo ceviche, Tamal Empanada, and Conchitas a la Parmesana. Everything was good, but the Lomo Saltado was a bit too salty though. Overall, very tasty, friendly and attentive staff, and all the dishes were solid but just not special. All flavors could be found elsewhere, nothing unique or creative about them. Just feel like it's very expensive given what we got, but that could be said of many places in the area. Would definitely come back for the drinks, glad we got the food, but nothing really drawing us back.

Was able to get a seat at this amazing restaurant! We had a selection of dishes and each one had amazing flavors that we could not decide which was our favorite. Highly recommend l!

My parents came to visit so we went out to a nice dinner at Tanta. I’d heard rave reviews and it really lived up to the hype. As a small plates place, you get to try lots of different flavors and every bite can be unique. My favorite was the chicken skewer but the empanadas shined as well. Also, there’s a seasonal dessert that’s an apple dish that I think warrants a full time place on the menu. Overall, I had a spectacular time and would love to come back again soon.

First time going and we will be back as we both really enjoyed it - service was attentive and excellent

Wonderful dinner,,,a true A...hostess an A as well. Was marred only by a rather surly eastern european female waitress who really had no business being here

Expensive. Not best Peruvian. $8 wine bottle sold for discounted $35. Lomo saltado was more of a gravy shredded beaf with potato wedges instead of true recipe. Empanadas were good. For $130 for two people go somewhere else.

Don't judge a restaurant by the country from which it comes. This place is great! Lots of options that you never heard of that work wonderfully on the palete! And those jumbo corm kernels are awesome!

Fantastic food. Fantastic flavors. The service was beyond awful. They made us late for the theater. We gave them plenty of time. We told them what time we had to leave. We were told that would be absolutely no problem. The restaurant was empty when we showed up, and they still didn’t have our table ready and had to wait 10 minutes. It took another 15 minutes for the waiter to even show an interest in taking an order. We were served in courses. Then there was a long pause between courses, and the last two came out at the same time. One was Stone cold. It had sat in the kitchen being ignored by the waiter. The drinks took 10 minutes to arrive, again with a restaurant that was empty other than for our table.

Interesting mixed of Peru and Japan food. Plate are really tasty and cool atmosphere with the Patio on the roof

This is one of the best restaurants brand in Peru and everywhere where they have branches. Always full. Need reservation few days in advance for weekends. Nice rooftop. Excellent Pisco Sour. Unfortunately they don’t include Suspiro Limeño in the menu. My favourite place in Chicago.

We sat on the rooftop at a comfy booth and started with cocktails and empanadas, then moved onto the mercado ceviche, the red crab and potato dish shown in the photo and finished with the saltembanco...one of the best meals ever and the service was top notch as well. We will make it a point to get back here next time we visit Chicago!

Firstly, everything we ate was amazing! From the pisco-based drinks, to the causitas (whipped potatoes), the Ceviches and entrees, each dish was full of flavour and freshness - and served quickly and beautifully. For me the scallops in Parmesan foam was a standout dish!! The service was great and everything came promptly. The staff took care of us well. So that is not what caused my four star review. It was the ambiance. The music was fine for dinner and the lighting is nice though maybe a little too dark. My biggest dislike at Tanta was that the bar area feels a bit like a chain bar, with bright colourful words written around the bar and the servers wearing logo tshirts. The vibe is definitely high energy, so I would feel comfortable with a group of friends but did not love the vibe for a date night dinner.

The food, wine, atmosphere, and staff were all remarkable. We sat on the roof and it was absolutely perfect. We left here and literally started planning a trip to Peru afterwards.

Very expensive, noisy and bad service. Not worth your money. OK dishes for 2 times what they are worth. Very loud and bad music. Average and slow service.

Unusual flavors, great service, good vibes - made for a memorable evening without having to eat steak!

Really high quality, authentic seafood and mountain dishes. Fabulous! And the cocktails are amazing. Three different types of Pisco Sours!

We tried a luncheon during Restaurant Week 2020. Excellent presentation, very tasty each of the three courses. Ceviche was prepared different, slicing the mahi with some of the same juices, short rib was very tender and a good portion for lunch and finally the desert was unusually both tart and sweet. Highly recommend. Server was very knowledgeable and friend, great service.

All is superb! Food was great! Ambiance was beautiful. We had our dinner at their outdoor rooftop and the atmosphere was amazing. Our server was also great! We ordered multiple dishes and all were tasting very good. We will definitely go back!

Having only had rotisserie Peruvian chicken before, this was a bit of a culinary adventure for us. The waiter helped with selections and quantities to share and the food was all delicious!

When my husband and I visit our good friend in Chicago, we like to try new and unique restaurants. Tanta immediately caught my eye but I was a bit wary of the "hype". My concerns were quickly alleviated! Our reservation was for inside but our request for the rooftop cafe was quickly and courteously met. While you do have to climb a flight of stairs, there is an elevator available for those who cannot or prefer not to climb stairs. The rooftop is a very comfortable area with booths, short tables, tall tables and bar seating---something for everyone---but does fill up fast when the weather is as perfect as it was the evening we were there! Our tall table was a bit "wobbly" but our waiter, Victor, immediately addressed the problem. He answered all our "first time visitors" questions and made some amazing recommendations. We began with their "pisco sours"---the boys weren't big fans so they got a couple of local beers, but the piscos seemed to grow on me! We began with the ceviche tasting flight---a trio of their various ceviches. Best ceviche ever---explosions of flavor and incredibly fresh. Then the boys shared a couple of beef empanadas. For entrees I had the "Tamal Lechon" ---crispy pork belly on a bed of masa and spicy quinona; my husband chose the "Sudado" --a huge bowl of clams, calmari, prawns and fish in a spicy vegetable soup with a side of rice to add; our friend had the "Salmon Tanta" ---huge portions of spicy salmon and veggies. Sooo good! Such unique spices and combinations...we gorged and saved no room for any desserts...boo! Such an overall FABULOUS experience! Victor was spot-on with service and was friendly and fun without being invasive. The efficient overall service, the cool, comfy venue, and the absolutely "ah-mazing" food make this place the perfect spot for a night out! Believe the hype---Tanta really is "the place" to go!

The food was very good (3 ceviche variations, especially the one with octopus) and the lomo saltado was very tender and cooked to perfection. The portions are adequate. Make sure you make a reservation, it is very busy.

I have a friend who has celiac's and thus is gluten free. I found that this place had really great options for a wonderful gluten free meal.

My wife, sister and her fiance were in town for a concert, and I wanted to come back to my favorite Peruvian spot in the USA. I studied in Peru in college, and this reminded me so much of an authentic Peruvian restaurant. The cocktails (pisco sour, caipirinha) and beers (Cusquena) were outstanding. We had the cebiche sampler, causita, steak neguri and chicken empanada for appetizers. We had the lomo saltado and shrimp fried rice (I forget the official name) as shared entrees. We had the alfajores for dessert along with espresso. There was nothing I would have changed about our evening. Our server was from Lima and was so helpful with my family who was unfamiliar with Peruvian cuisine. Thank you, Tanta!

Came here twice and ate from the happy hour menu with no disappointments Service and food were excellent Favourite was the cevechi

What a delight! We went for brunch, and their selections are not traditional – you won’t find pancakes and omelets. However, they do have several delicious options that are breakfast-like: French toast and several dishes that contain eggs. The Benedictos Criollos – like eggs benedict, except served over rice and beans, with shredded beef adobo – and the Arroz con Chancho – fried rice with pork belly, eggs, fried plantains and yucca – were outstanding, as were the non-alcoholic drinks. Service was fabulous, and the atmosphere (at least in the morning) was bright, welcoming, and not terribly loud. We would love to come back for dinner!

Great experience! Excellent food, excellent service and a fun atmosphere. Every dish we tried was delicious. If I return I would just order the smaller dishes instead of an entree. So many choices and each one you’ll love!

We visited here during a stay in Chicago looking for a different experience and food culture. This restaurant delivers on those aspects. The food plates are not too large and good for sharing. The fish dishes were fresh and zingy, the meat plates succulent and tasty. Highlights were the fish and scallops ceviche and the pork belly. The atmosphere is laid back and not too formal and music the right volume to hear yourself think. Servers were pleasant and attentive. Our server, Vanessa, was lovely and explained the menu making good recommendations for dessert. Recommend this venue.

Oscar excellent wait person. Wonderful dining experience for family who had not had Peruvian before. Recommend highly, excellent service and ambiance.

We were spending the day in the city and wanted a light lunch. Shared an exceptional ceviche, quinoa salad, and some chips and salsa. Paired with a nice wine and a Bloody Mary. Very nice lunch and experience.

We a party of eight and reservations, we were greeted and seated promptly. Overall, we received great service from beginning to end. The drink and dinner menu is extensive and you're sure to find something to please you. We tried several appetizers and all the main dishes were wonderful. No complaints from anyone. We'll be back.
El Chingon cocktail = perfection
Everything was soooo good! The burrata bachiche salad was great (pesto quinoa!), pulpo consistency was spot on. Vegetarian empanadas and cebiche trio also very tasty. The El Chingon cocktail was perfect. Would definitely come back.
