Authentic to the T...A...get it?

By stayfrosty87 |

Not the biggest fan of Mexican food but went here for a class graduation and it was good. The place is pretty small and crammed during lunch, at least while we were there. The staff was quick to the our drink an lunch orders, though it was a tad hard getting to specifics due to the slight language barrier. Chips and salsa came out quick and were great to snack on. I ordered the chalupas with chicken and beef but when it came it was only refried beans. Because I am not a Mexican food conisuere and the good was pretty mixed on top of the hard shell, I only realized this after eating the first chalupa of three...too hungry to complain. It was decent but for the price and amount of food can't complain too much. I am rating this a 4 because the food came out pretty late and there were wrong specifics to our orders but overall a 4 due to price and quantity and again, not a Mexican food conisuere and the rest of the class loved it.

Execelent

Great service and food was delicious. Remember that mexican food is spicy so expect on some plates to have jalapeno mixed with the food. Really good place

Lots of food and cheap!!

Great and fast service. Fed a family of 4 for $25. Lots of food , we even had leftovers. Staff was friendly.

Disappointing

I ordered juevos rancheros, but the ranchero sauce was like pink water with no flavor. I had to dump the salsa on my eggs to get any flavor. Very disappointed.

Down Home Mexican Kitchen

I’m not from the area but was in town visiting Lackland AFB BMT. Our first impression was that it was not in the nicest area of town. Everything is a bit run down with bars in the windows etc... The restaurant was a bit dirty on the inside. The majority of the patrons were Hispanic (which confirms the food is authentic) and I got the feeling they were all regular customers. It felt like a grandma’s kitchen type atmosphere where home cooked Mexican comfort food was served. The food was good. It seemed mostly homemade. I enjoyed my dish but would not go again because of the area and cleanliness of the place.

Amazing

Great food! Chimichanga was great as well as the Fajitas and shrimp. Fast and friendly service. Good prices too.

Yum!! Yum!!

We were told by the front desk at our hotel that this place had really good authentic Mexican food. When driving up the place doesn't look like much but the restaurant was clean with a really nice staff and great food. I ordered the fajitas, my husband ordered the flautas and my son got the nachos. We received our food really quick and it tasted amazing. The prices were very reasonable too and you get a lot of food. I ordered the fajitas for one but two people could of easily eaten it. Just an FYI: the servers speak little English some better than others but there may be some communication issues so be patient. It's worth it. We will definitely eat here again if we are in the area.

The Right Choice / Great Selection

By Sdrasrvee |

We had the quesadillas, tostada ceviche and the Camarones de la Plancha. I also ordered the Horchata, which was perfectly spiced, not too sweet and not too chalky. The shrimp were tender and savory, not chewy at all. The beef in the quesadillas was spicy and smokey. This place was very comfortable, lots of variety, and a real pleasure. We are so glad we found it here on Trip Advisor. Go!

Best Mexican Food I have had.

My husband and I went to San Antonio for my son's Air Force Graduation and this gem was close to our hotel. It is definitely deceiving and would make you unsure of stopping but the service and food was outstanding. The restaurant is not in great shape and not great to look at but the food makes up for what this restaurant lacks! I had to make two visits to this place before heading home. also the quantities were huge and the price of a meal was very cheap.Well worth the stop.

An Authentic and Affordable Mexican Restaurant

By jpcalo8 |

We were in San Antonio for a BMT graduation. Day 1, the graduates have on base liberty. My routine, as I have done this on two other occasions, meet our graduate, drop the family off to do some on base shopping and head over to Taqueria Arandas for carryout. The menu is loaded with choices. The portions will fill you up. The taste is genuine and the staff is very welcoming and attentive. The service is also very fast. We have dined at Taqueria Arandas many times before. Our graduate requested a repeat dining experience. If you do not like Mexican food go somewhere else.

Visiting from Atlanta

By LaToya W |

We wanted some good mexican food and WOW this place delivered. The prices were really affordable and the plates of food was way far more than any of us could eat. We are visiting for an Airforce graduation and I wish I could take this place back home with me. The service was awesome and the staff took the time to explain different menu options and combinations.

Stop by on I90 West. Filled with Spanish speaking locals and excellent Tex Mex.!

By Peter R |

Superb food. Just what I was looking for. A local (very local) Tex Mex joint with home made food. I ordered the chicken enchiladas verdes with a chili relleno on the side and couldn't finish it! Great price. No beer though. If you are on 90 West out of San Antonio, highly recommend you stop by.

Mexican dishes supremo

Looking for a spot to eat after a busy day and wanting a change from delicious brisket, Taqueria Arandas is one of those places. Don’t judge a book by its cover. The outside of the restaurant looks a bit old but as I have discovered in the past, some of the better restaurants with great food are right around the corner. For starters, the staff upon arrival are very friendly greeting me right away. I like it already before seeing the menu. Being a first timer, I always ask what the server recommends then I pick the most appealing. This time as usual the choice was fairly easy. The asada combo looked very delicious. With the refried beans, rice, flour tortillas and sauces this was a great choice. The portions were huge and I had a to go plate to enjoy dinner the next evening. Also, since I like sweet tea, their free refills hit the spot. So, if you are in the area, try them and be prepared to be satisfied.

Authentic Delicousness

Hubby and I in town for sons graduation, our third time in town and no desire to be in the tourist traps. We were driving around and decided to stop here on a whim. So glad we did! Got our food to go to eat later. I ordered chili relleno w/cheese which comes with beans, rice and corn or flour tortillas, I asked for corn. He ordered burrito Jalisco chicken which comes with beans and rice as well. Both meals were YUMMY! We would gladly return to try something else! Steer clear of the expensive tourist places. Mingle with the locals, eat well and spend less!

Genuine Mexican Food

Really great Mexican food, close to Lackland AFB, and relatively inexpensive. This is not Taco Bell, a good thing. They also offer takeout (expect generous portions).

Huge portions!

By bsbana2000 |

Holy moly, they serve you enough for lunch and dinner. I ordered the gordita plate and they were giant. It came with well seasoned rice and beans and avocado, the gorditas were fresh and soft. Beef needed a bit of salt but it was a good hearty filling.

Cold and flavorless

By Quinten S |

Maybe we went on a bad day, but my dish was nearly unrecognizable. It was cold and flavorless. The other dish was very salty. Other people like it, I assume they had an off day.

Great meal

I am very impressed. The food was amazing, and the portions were large for the money. I would recommend this place to anyone. The only downside to my meal was the straws are to short for the large water cups. :-)
