Yummy

We went to this place after a long night of clubbin' and the food was awesome. This is my favorite place to eat tacos now. They don't speak great english, but don't let that stop you. Enjoy

Very Mexican food

By Jd_murcia |

In San Antonio you have your over-hyped mexican restaurants that cater to the out of towners and local gringos.... and then you have authentic amazing hole-in-the-wall taquerias. This place belong in the latter group. Everything on it is amazing, but not a lot of options for vegetarians. Fun fact: Burgers here are delicious! Let's say you're with a group and one person just wants burger and fries... they have it here and it's really good! Worth a visit if it's close to you. As others have said, the english skills of the staff are limited, but they can get basic phrases.

My personal favorite

By Adrian Salama |

Simply one of the best taco places in San antonio. The meat they use is high grade, the service is incredible. They treat me there like a real restaurant where the waiters know what they are doing and not just doing you a favor.

A new favorite

We'll be back! As usual, I am always looking for great and inexpensive places to eat. I could see how this would be packed during the week because the flow of people, including take-out, was non-stop during our visit. We were there on a Sunday, late afternoon. The place was pretty crowded; however, we did find a table. It was only a few minutes until a waiter approached our table with menus. I asked about the house favorites. He recommended the mini-tacos, although he mentioned quite a few things that were ordered most often by return customers. He brought a small dish of chips and a salsa, which was pretty good. (I am very picky.) Not many Mexican restaurants offer tripas, lengua, and carnitas. My husband ordered two tacos, one of tripas and the other pastor. We had a little bit of discussion of the manner in which we wanted our tripas. Many restaurants do not do a very good job of cooking them: the soft are often gummy and the crispy are almost reduced to a powder. I ordered the mini-tacos, tripas, medium. My husband ordered this as well based on our waiter's suggestion. They were great!!! My plate was served with a pico de gallo and a slice of lime. I am not a fan of pico; however, he brought two salsas to the table, a green, hotter version and a roasted tomato that I liked very much. My husband loved his tacos. His plate came with several lime slices and cilantro, which he does not eat; however, I love it and it was delicious on my tripas. The only negative was the "limonada natural." It was a little watery; it needed more lime and sugar. They do serve Mexican cokes and carry other Mexican bottled drinks as well as horchata.

Great taco al pastor

By Gigi Reyes |

I have heard that a couple of years ago, this establishment operated through a food truck. Ever since I have been coming here, I always order their mini taco al pastor plate. I love it so much I don't order anything else. My husband also orders the carne asada gringa. He likes it a lot as well. I cannot say about the other food on the menu except with the occasional guacamole that we order with the chips. Guacamole was okay, nothing to rave about. I would rate the place a 3 out of 5 but the taco is so good, I gave them a 4. Happy eating!

Off Track Biz Dinner

By WasOnce |

This restaurant was recommended to us by the front desk at the nearby Marriott. He told us that this is where he and his friends go to eat. Sold,! The restaurant is located in a very non-descript strip mall, but you are not going for the atmosphere! I asked the waitress to bring me what she considered to be the best entree on the menu. All I can tell you is it is #3......small strips of tender, marinated grilled beef, rice, beans, flour tortillas. Delicious. My 2 co-workers also loved their entrees as well. My only negative is the very dry tres leches cake which is obviously brought in from outside the restaurant. Very easy on the pocketbook. We will definitely be back when we are back in San Antonio for business!

Add some Taqueria Datapoint to your San Antonio life

By Edwin A |

Living down the street from Taqueria Datapoint has allowed me the chance to enjoy some great comfort food. I love the fact that the restaurant id down home and quaint. The comfort food served is good and voluminous. I order taquitos with all the varieties of meat offered. The nacho dishes feed two or three people each. Just great food and service.

Caters to a wide variety

By bwanderer |

A lunch place that's not too far away from the medical center, this caters to a wide variety of people, indicative of either a lack of restaurants or a wide appeal. I suspect it's the latter. We arrived from the north, which was the back of a rectangular group of stores that covered two levels, with the restaurant in the middle of the lower level. We lucked out in finding a spot in the northern parking lot, then walked around to the front. The restaurant is a bustling, somewhat cramped place given the lunchtime "surge" of people, open seating, and thus not a lot of privacy. It was kind of a diner-like feel. Service was excellent and "by committee," meaning that one isn't dependent on one person, they work as a team. It had a family-oriented feel. Food arrived quickly, was ample, and well priced. The seasoning was a bit off of what I'm used to, but perhaps is normal for that area, and it was certainly better than the much-heralded Mi Tierra downtown.

Best Authentic Mexican Food

By novacamp |

Taqueria Datapoint has the best authentic Mexican food in San Antonio. This ain't your Tex-Mex -- it is true Mexican food and delicious! I enjoyed breakfast tacos with fresh, handmade tortillas, and spouse devoured the migas. Coffee was rich and robust and kept coming. Service is friendly and efficient. You can practice your Spanish with appreciation, not embarrassment. Table service, but you pay your bill at the cash register. The restaurant is modest, sharing a commercial strip with a dry cleaner & laundry, among other businesses. Maybe these lack of pretensions make the food and service feel so like home.

Great carne asada

By TXnatives |

We had breakfast here and it was delicious. The carne asada is excellent. The breakfast burritos are also very good as you can create your own combination. We were able to order lunch items so we tried out a variety of tacos and they were all good. The prices are good and the restaurant filled up in a short period of time with plenty of locals which is always a good sign.

Eh.

By Ambar R |

This is okay for TexMex. Nothing amazing, not authentic Mexican which is hard to find. On the positive side, very nice on the inside and clean.

Damned Good

By JaimeP_63 |

This is the real deal. Authentic Mexican food. No phony, nasty Tex-Mex here. How can you tell? Well, 'cuz it's a divey place with hideous 1970s orange walls, an outdated TV blaring obnoxious low-quality Mexican crap, tipped over silk plants, and dirty window. Okay, so it's not a nice place. And THAT is exactly what makes is the real deal. The staff are hurried and run about frantically, but manage to be pleasant and efficient. The chips were exceptionally good: thick, thick, thick, crunchy, and yummy. Salsas were fresh and flavorful. The menu is extensive and offers a plethora of standards. I randomly picked the gordita plate. It was enormous, with two gorditas smeared with refried beans and stuffed with carne asada (that's Spanish for "not ground beef, Gringo!"). I left with my stomach full and my wallet only slightly emptied. This is located near my new job, I expect that I will be a frequent flyer. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Delicious!

Everything is good, but the tacos make the rest pale in comparison. $2 for fantastic authentic tacos. The salsa is hot but delicious.

Best Budget Mexican Food!

By Pabrown210432 |

Living in San Antonio there are ample places to eat Mexican food. The problem is finding a place to get authentic Mexican food for a decent price. This is a great place to grab some authentic Mexican food on a budget! I live in the area and frequent here as the food, service, and prices are great! As a person who does not speak Spanish, the waitresses have a challenge to communicate with me as they speak mostly espanol. They come by with a smile, and ensure they make my meal an enjoyable one. They have never let my expectations down once, and I think if you give them a try they won't let your down either!

Best Tacos in the Area!

By A C |

Overall: Authentic Mexican food; the street tacos are delicious (al pastor & carnitas are my favorite). You can dine in or take out; either option is great-food still tastes awesome. When dining in, you get free chips/salsa. Love: Taqueria Datapoint has a variety of Mexican plates, fajitas, soups, tacos, burritos, and sides. Service can be slow if the place is packed. Parking may be a challenge depending on the time of day. I definitely recommend this taqueria, especially if you are craving homemade Mexican food...and best of all, it's pretty cheap!

Good mexican food

By Ugo C |

We had breakfast at this restaurant. The food was good, the service was great, the place is family-oriented. The restaurant is clean, but it seems it has seen better days. I would come back for the food.

It's ok

By VanessaVa |

The flour tortillas are great. The refried beans were awful. The other food we tried was ok at best. The biggest downfall was their service or rather lack of. The waitress took our order, brought our drinks and never came back. Not even to bring out our food. Instead she sat down with another waitress to wrap utensils and watch the tv. Never once did she even come over. As a matter of fact, another couple had to get up and ask their waitress (the other one our waitress was talking & watching tv with) for service. First and last time there.

Good food at great prices

By henryg984 |

This family operated restaurant serves good classic Mexican food at great prices. You will find what you expect from taquerias plus more. The food is flavorful and not bland at all. Try the fideo loco, you won't regret it. The family takes pride in their place and it shows.

Breakfast stop

By Jessie N |

I had the porchops and huevos ranchero, also a lemonade to drink it was the best part of the meal. The meal looks good but lacks on flavor.

Great value and taste

By aloha2055 |

Got the mini taquitos both times. Each steak and chicken plate only $7.50 each. You get 5 mini taquitos. Came with avocado, salsa, onions, and green and red sauces. Easy to find and parking in strip mall.

Good Mexican food, very good service.

The restaurant is very clean moderately priced and great food. Wait staff were very attentive. Well worth the stop.

Ton of salt

By L279 |

The first time we had taquitos of pastor, asada, tripas and all was well. The second visit was terrible. The milanesa and taco meats were extremely salty. So much that we could not eat the food. We ordered chile relleno and that was ok. The charro beans also had too much salt. We will not be back.

Tacopoint - Here's the Data.

By OmniEpicurean |

Nice muy Mexicano little eatery in a bit of a run down strip mall location near the old Datapoint Corporation neighborhood. Walk in to a loud two main seat-yourself area restaurant where the din is mostly from lively conversations in Spanish. The menu will tell you that you are going to be eating Mexican food that is more Mexican than Texican. Love the pictures of the entrees that are done in a style that is reminiscent of many restaurants south of the border. Ordered the combination plate to try a little of everything. We asked the waitress to substitute one beef for one of the cheese enchiladas and that we preferred beef rather than chicken for the crispy taco. The waitress was more than happy to oblige. When our meals were served, however, we noticed that the taco was chicken. We brought that to the attention of our waitress and she reviewed her ticket. It had been written up correctly, but the kitchen missed the boat. The manager graciously offered replacements. As soon as he left our table we discovered that one of our enchiladas was chicken rather than the requested beef. Again our waitress checked her ticket which was written up correctly. Back she went for replacement enchiladas. By the time we had the order straightened out, we had enough food on the table for four diners and my college Spanish had gotten more of a workout than it has had in years. Everything was tasty though I am not used to having both corn and potatoes in the picadillo that filled the beef enchiladas. The meal was served with a couple slices of avocado on a bed of tomato and lettuce. Sometimes the simple things are the best. I took one of the hot corn tortillas and wrapped the avocado in it with a bit of salsa and a squeeze of lime. If I had had a cold Carta Blanca to go with it, I am sure I would have heard Gabriel's trumpet. Despite the order snafu, I know now that I will have to go back to try the breakfast tacos. The homemade tortillas of corn and flour are just excellent. The plate of 4 or 5 small street tacos looked amazing as well when served to patrons at an adjacent table. And, I get to practice my Spanish again when I return; but one thing I know I will not be saying anytime soon is "Yo quiero Taco Bell"! (not that I ever did). I am going to have to quit looking at the health inspection scores for restaurants. As I was completing this review, I looked up Taqueria Datapoint. The only location that came up by that name is on Gramercy Pl. I have to figure the two are related with a name like that. This other location had 22 demerits in its most recent review. That's an "Acceptable" score by the Health Dept. standards but not by mine. I can only hope that the Medical Drive location is doing a better job.

Good food and prompt!

A work buddy took me here the first time. He spent university study group time at this place. I found the breakfast and lunches to be substantial and rapid. Nothing special but it is good eating, tasty meals and rapid waitstaff.

Real Mexican Food!

By omardlc |

This place was recommended to is by some friends. Did not disappoint. We all chose different tacos and all were very pleased. Gringas are a must. Be sure to fill them with all the sides. Frijoles borrachos also very good. Will Definetly be back!

Hell no

By lalalala41 |

DISSAPOINTED to say the least !! Drove up & the “open “ sign was off . Since it’s 4th of July thought maybe it was closed . It wasn’t . I sat down took a while for a waitress to come to my table . It wasn’t very busy . When she did I ordered an unsweetened tea & chill con queso . She didn’t know if they were out of queso & had to go ask the cooks . When she came back she said they had it . I ordered picadillo taco , bean & cheese taco and barbacoa. Waited a little bit had to go find a waiter so I could go get my chips and salsa that I should’ve gotten as soon as o had arrived 10 minutes earlier . The queso comes & it’s cold . What the hell ? I immediately flag the waitress down & tell her . She brings back this time lukewarm queso . I get my tacos . The barbacoa is bland . I take 2 bites & push that to the side to get picked up . The picadillo taco is decent @ best . The bean & cheese taco I could still taste Cold cheese on the taco . They didn’t take the time to wrap the taco in foil to get hot or warm up the taco as a whole to get the cheese hot . This sucks bc so many ppl gave this place good reviews & that was not my experience @ all. There was also a waitress picking her teeth when I glanced over . Unprofessional !! I won’t be back

Great Food - A real find

By Jwvv |

If you want fancy - this isn't it. If you want GREAT Mexican food- this is the place. We went for Sunday breakfast and the locals had a line out the door for carry-out. Very reasonable prices.

Great food and amazing homemade tortillas

By debbies378 |

This is a great authentic mexican food place!! Amazing home made tortillas! Nothing fancy, but that is what makes it great. Prices are great too!!

Wonderful Mexican Food

By Martha232 |

Come for the wonderful Mexican food and reasonable prices, but don't expect fancy surroundings. The breakfast tacos and burritos were some of the best we have ever had. The service was prompt and friendly.

Very authentic Mexican

By AVGTXN |

Weeknight. Located in a very average strip shopping center, Taqueria DataPoint (because of its street address) serves very authentic food. Not fluent in Spanish? No problem, since the menu is all picture-based. The mini tacos were very good as was the rice. The frijoles unfortunately looked like someone had thrown up. If you want dessert, they have a great selection of Mexican frozen treats.

Pretty Yummy!

By Scott D |

This place isn't in the best location, but looking past that, the food is worth it being in a strip center. No fancy decor, just good food. Bring your Spanish speaking skills because they don't speak the best English. Hot sauce is hot! Tacos, enchiladas, rice and beans are all good!

Don't let the name fool you!! They are located on Medical Dr

By Jennifer G |

I eat here about 4x a month, the food is very good!! The mini tacos are the best in town. Choose any variety! The wait staff are always pleasant and nice! The menu is easy to read with real photos of what you get from the kitchen

Best Taqueria in San Antonio

By Deborah C |

We go every Sunday. They are like family to us. Very busy but great service. Try the carnitas or enchilada verde with chicken. Tacos Al Pastor are great too.

Great food! Tasty lunch!

By Rammgm |

So we went out as a group from work. There were four of us. We each bought something different and tried it all. I ordered the Mini Taquitos Pastor. They were excellent. The flavor was like I remembered growing up. There are 6 of them which are served with Lime, onions, cilantro and on corn tortillas. I would definitely get those again. In fact, the flavor was so good, I am taking my family there. One of us ordered the quesadillas. He is a strict vegetarian and found them filling with plenty of pico. He liked them, but I am not as into cheese as others. They are two large flour tortillas folded in half, but huge. These are also served with lime wedges. The third one ordered enchiladas. That was served with rice, beans, lettuce, and of course as good amount of pico. The source was well balanced. There was not too much cheese, but added a good balance. The final one of us ordered Gorditas. Again, amazing. I would like to take some time to bring up the refried beans. They are a little orange. Also, they had an interestingly wonderful flavor. This being a Tex Mex restaurant, the table received chops and good salsa. The salsa is a little spicy, but enjoyable. The waiter was attentive and got everything correct without complaining about splitting the check. This is not a fancy place but I felt comfortable.

Great Mexican Food!

By DanKan |

This restaurant reminded me of my hometown's cooking and atmosphere. Living in New England, I wanted a place that gave me the taste of home, and as close to my heritage/home cooking as it could. It delivered. The food tasted great when I went for lunch. The next day, I returned for Menudo, which was fantastic! I was very pleased with everything I ate. The service was outstanding. They checked on us repeatedly and kept our drinks full.

Mini Tacos with Fast Drive-Thru!!!

By Ryan C |

Everyone has their favorite mini taco spot, but dealing with the lines and waits can be discouraging. Thankfully they have a drive thru so you can be smarter than the rest and get your tacos to go!

Drive-thru on Fredericksburg is bad

By Valerie S |

We ordered tacos and the lady kept getting our order wrong. I’m thinking the speaker doesn’t work that great in the drive thru. We had simple order of tacos but was told to pull on the side to wait for our order which took about 10 min. We were on our way to go out of town and this held us back a bit. They still had our order wrong but drove off cause we didn’t have time to go back in and explain.

Excellent! Mini tacos

By Sp435 |

Loved the tacos. I would go anytime for these. Without question. Not your regular restaurant but once u taste the food, you will go crazy! That's a guarantee!

Great Tacos & a Really Hot Salsa !

By Anand1213 |

I visit the place quite often & anytime I feel like having a quick bite. They have a good spread of authentic Mexican food and I've liked everything I've tried but the tacos are simply outstanding. Beware of the hot salsa...it's really really hot & will likely set your insides on fire. That just makes it all the more tempting to try out though :)

Lunch and dinner

By Auroracanorios |

This place reminds me of back home. The staff speaks Spanish 😁,and they have by far the best tripas in San Antonio. The barbacoa is great and the yaka tacos are delicious!

GREAT FRESH HOT FOOD.

Excellent service and great food. Friendly service checked up on the table several times. reasonably price very clean restrooms

Awesome and authentic

By John B |

Stopped here for lunch and ordered the mini tacos. There were five on the plate and each of use could choose two meats. Between the five of us we had some of each. All were absolutely delicious. Each plate was adorned with caramelized onion, raw onion, chopped cilantro and a slce of fresh avocado. As with all Mexican restaurants, chips and salsa were brought to the table when we sat down, but the salsa here is the best I have ever had. Awesome meal for a great price!

Great Mini Tacos

By Russell |

The mini tacos were absolutely great! This is a great place for tacos! The next time I’m working late, this will be my go to spot.

Excellent breakfast tacos

By Steve S |

My 3 breakfast tacos (bacon & egg, chorizo & egg, sausage & egg) were delicious. Both salsas had the right balance of spice & heat. I always indulge when in the Medical Center area.

Surprisingly good food.

By Mary Jo V |

Stopped here cause it was open late (not sure how late) and there was a good size crowd of families and young folks all enjoying conversation and good mexican food. Our menudo and caldo de res hit the spot for this late night stop. Glad we found it.

great tacos

By Rob L |

I loved the tacos I got here. They might be $3.00 each but they are much larger than you get elsewhere. I loved the al pastor as it was one of best that I've had in SA.

Tastes like home, every time!

By Chickenlips79 |

This is a great taqueria in San Antonio. Don't know what a taqueria is, well either try it out and be amazed or keep moving gringo. The plate of tacos can't be beat for value and taste. It's not fancy. It's just really good at a great value, definitely worth the stop!

I will dream about this place until next time I go to San Antonio

By Lucelle A |

One of the best tacos ever. I will forever recommend this place. I'm from Houston but this place honestly beats all of the places I've tried here at home. I ordered the A La Yaka Mini Taquitos which consisted of pastor, tripa, carnitas and asada. All of my favorite flavors in one (except for the tripas-- it was actually my first time trying it and it was amazing as well).

Best and truly authentic Mexican food

By BougieKnight |

Recommended to stop here for a truly authentic Mexican breakfast. We were not disappointed. The taco options, as well as burrito, for breakfast were fabulous. Great service. Reasonably priced. Delightful! Give them a try!
