Our family eats a lot of different Mexican food and this place was a pleasant surprise to find on a recent business trip. My colleague and I had the very best Gorditos (hand made soft corn version) and Breakfast tacos. With such reasonable prices we tried several versions- including the potato and egg, chorizo and egg, asada steak and egg, bacon and egg, and sausage and egg. With drinks and a 25% tip- our meal together was only $20. I look forward to coming back here when I visit HOU airport area.

First stop after arrival at Houston Hobby was to have a late lunch at Taqueria del Sol. One of 2 best Mexican restaurants around! We'd been talking about it the whole flight. Great service, amazing food, and be sure to visit their bakery!

I ate here once a week while working in the area. I took my wife for the excellent food, but got surprised looks from the locals, being two gringos. The food is always excellent as well as the prices. Have not been disappointed in anything I tried, but the fajita burritos are my favorite.

I been here before but just never written about The food is great, asada tacos in flour tortilla come with chihuahua cheese, really good Now, breakfast is great, machacado, Chorizo and of course menudo on weekends Great please foe authentic mexican

My family and I were in Houston for the night. We scarfed down all of our food because it's rare when we get good authentic Mexican in the South. Good sized portions & cheap. This L.A. girl gives it two thumbs up.

If you are in the mood to try real Mexican food. You have to go to Taqueria del Sol. This place is always crowded and l know why. Food taste awesome and it's so inexpensive

WOW - The bakery is a must stop and BUY BUY BUY after you eat dinner! Love the Mexican baked goods. Here you find VALUE. Lots of great food, priced right and a good variety. Try the "horchatta" rice drink. Overall, great place to dine when in Houston. Don't miss it and do not let the exterior of the place deceive you. Friendly and great for the kids.

Good place for a quick lunch, fast and cheap. Great tacos! Will come back for more! Super fast service and friendly staff.

This is definitely not Tex-Mex. In other words, white cheese not yellow cheese. I've tried everything on the menu and love it all. Its family owned and operated. I've run into several people there who drive a long way just to eat there. Try to do pick up orders if your only free time to go in on a Sunday lunch hour, or else you'll be waiting for quite a while. Be sure to check out the awesome bakery next door!

Everything here is amazing. The tacos of any type are perfect and amazing. True authentic taqueria. There is a reason they have so much parking.

We drive all the way from The Woodlands to eat here...it is that good!!! You can really measure the quality of a Mexican restaurant by their tacos al pastor. One word: amazing!! Everything is superb here. Worth the drive from anywhere.

Met up with some friends as we were passing through Houston. YUMMMY food, authentic. Definitely a great choice to eat at.

Great mexican food. Very affordable. Bakery attached that has variety of options. My fav is the carne asada plate

Great little place in South Houston. Large portions, cheap prices. The torta was excellent. The atmosphere was nothing special but the food was good.

They had the fastest service I have ever had! We had 3 waitress ask us if we had places our drink order the 1st one could have been nicer but whatever we never saw her again after that a different one brought the drinks out and took our order. My complaint is the sauce, it was taste less 😞 In my opinion the sauce has to be good for my tacos. One last thing they had was normal tortillas 👎not street tacos tortillas 👎 also tasteless. I asked for trompo tacos and it was not a trompo at all lol It tastes good but definitely not trompo.

We go there a lot for breakfast. On weekends you have to wait. We haven't had a bad or mediocre meal yet and the prices are good.

A good place for latino eats. Open late for a bite after a night of partying. Not so great decor but you can't beat the price. You can't have everything.

The service was excellent! The food was very good and autenthic mexican taste! We had breakfast and the salsa was very hot. The bakery fresh and good!

Great selection of Mexican favorites and traditional plates. Easy access, clean, lots of people on a Wednesday at lunch but got table immediately

We had fillet minon steak and chicken fajitas. They were by far the best that I ever have had before !! The wonderful smell hits you in the face when you walk in the restaurant. If you like fajitas then Go there and eat you will love it😊

The Food is superior. Was greeted and seated immediately. Great atmosphere. Service was very attentive and food was delivered quickly.

I have always visited this place for about 20 years now , same great food , same great prices , far from my house , but well worth it

There are lots of good taquerias in Houston but this is my favorite. Great tortas and tacos. There is a bakery attached. This is a convenient location at the corner of I-45 and 610 in the near SE, between downtown and Hobby Airport. It is open from 7am-3am. I would like to try the breakfasts there sometime (available all the time but $1 more if out of normal breakfast time.)

Wow, what a great place. The wait can be a little, but not long. In any case, it is well worth it. Don't get turned away by the parking in front, huge lot in back.

this is the place you come in under the influence without a care for genuine taste, I remember when this place was inside a grocery store on canal street back in the 80's and everything was made fresh and tasted fresh, nowadays do not expect Pastor tacos to taste like traditional pastor and the gorditas of pigskins/chicharones tasted rancid last time I was there ,To be on the safe side I order a fajita torta but again dont expect fajitas you just pulled of the grill trust me these have been sitting there for awhile and I order with sliced advocados because the guacamole is black and you can tell when they spread it over your food, Like I said it aint what it use to be but cheap eats will always attract a crowd but then again different strokes for different folks,

This is my home while I'm in Houston because i love the food so much. I traveled there last week and brought back food from there to savor in my home . I miss this place!

We were in the area for a baseball tournament and needed a place to grab breakfast between games. The GPS led us to Taqueria Del Sol, we figured we'd pull up to some sketchy place and end up at a fast food restaurant. LOL. We pulled up and the place was packed! That's a good sign. We enjoyed breakfast, it was quick but no so quick it seemed like the food was sitting on a warmer, it was very good and we all enjoyed our breakfast. They also have fresh sweet bread to purchase, which we did and have been enjoying that at home. :)

Not a tourist destination, just really good Mexican food in a casual setting. We may have been the only Caucasians in the restaurant, which I took as a very good sign. The menu has lots of options and everything we ordered was served in large proportions. Loved it all. Friendly, efficient waitstaff and quick service made it the perfect place to stop on the way to Hobby Airport. Be sure to check out the Bakery connected to the restaurant!

I had been to the Taqueria Del Sol in years past and had a memory of fairly decent food, but this outing was such a disappointment. The meat servings of tacos de carne asada and fajitas were ample, but everything else was skimpy--bean tostada with barely any beans and very little cheese and a heap of shredded lettuce that tasted of preservative solvent--ugh. The cheese enchiladas were tasteless and also skimpy. The pan dulce for dessert was fairly good, but not the empanadas de camote....we did especially like the arroz con leche...And the Mexican Coke (made with real cane sugar not high fructose corn syrup!) was delicious...the one really bright spot was our waitress, who was very beautiful and sassy which made it a fun time, ---but the food---find somewhere else to eat please! ( Although, I will say that it was jam packed, so maybe you might like it!)

I have years coming to Taqueria del Sol and l love this place. My husband says that this is his favorite restaurant and he loves it so much he doesn't care if we have to drive a couple hours to eat here. The food is always great and the prices are very good. This place is always busy but we love how fast the service is. If you are looking for a good Mexican dish this is the place

As a Houstonian I will say this is one of the best tex-mex resturants in Houston. Everytime I have family come in from out of town we take them here and they love it! Its a 10min drive from downtown and open really late, so its great to go here after a ball game.

I am new to this area and love real taquerias. This place is packed for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They even prepare our communion bread for our 9am worship service (Servants of Christ Parish across the street). The main thing here is you are getting great value and fabulous food. This is the real Mexican food you are looking for, believe me.

I thought I was taking a gamble ordering steak and eggs when I should have been ordering breakfast tacos. So glad I did, The steak was a good size and super tender and a true medium temp. I ordered the eggs as huevos rancheros. This is now my favorite breakfast. TIP - Ask for the pickled jalapenos.

We come to Taqueria del Sol at least twice a month. It’s the best Mexican food in Houston and the best price.

Had an hour to kill on the side of Houston and looked up a good Mexican restaurant. This one popped up on Trip advisor visor and I was only a block away. Trip advisor got it right. This place was awesome. Reminded me much like me mi Tierra in San Antonio. I will be back and bring the rest of the family. I could not leave without buying a few pastries at their bakery. A bit of a hole in the wall but very good.. Probably would not come to this place on a late night trip due to the proximity of crime but is a relatively safe place during the day.

Originally from Illinois, I miss the great taquerias and this is close. Tacos are good. Salsas are ok. Some were runny and unflavorful. Tacos were very good one day, and then very different the next day. We ate here two days in a row. The panaderia(bakery) is awesome. It helped with my craving of having tacos until I go back to Chicago since there are no good taquerias in Baton Rouge. If you go, get the tacos al pastor. They are very good.

The food is always good, no matter when you come. Try the queso it’s the best. There’s also a panaderia that is attached to the restaurant. I’m from El Paso where authentic Mexican food is everywhere. This restaurant reminded me of the food from home.

Great local no frills Mexican dinner. Good food at excellent value. Good place for lunch in off freeway location close to hobby airport. Best tacos al pastor outside of mister tacos in Cozumel.

During this visit to Houston we decided to try a different Mexican food restaurant. Based on others reviews, we tried this one. We were not disappointed. We all had something different, enchiladas, quesadilla, carne asada tacos with all the sides. We will be returning on our next visit!

This is my favorite Mexican place in the whole world. I literally dream about this place it's so good! I like their beef better than a $50 steak. You haven't had tacos unless you've had these!

I have been going to Taqueria del Sol since 1989. I always try to eat breakfast at least once each time I am in Houston. Good solid food, without pretense, for an inexpensive price!

If you are overwhelmed with all the options for mexican in a city the size of Houston, that is totally understandable. I'm sure there are many good choices, but I'm so glad I've tried Taqueria Del Sol. This place rocks. It's so authentic, and everything is soo good. This is where the locals go. Real good prices too. There's a deli attached too. Looking forward to going back next time I'm in H-Town.

We drive all the way from The Woodlands to eat here...it is that good!!! You can really measure the quality of a Mexican restaurant by their tacos al pastor. One word: amazing!! Everything is superb here. Worth the drive from anywhere.

Stopped in for lunch on a busy Friday, ordered caldo de pollo, and savored every taste. Soup came with a side of rice and tortillas. I've been a few times before and you really can't go wrong; flautas, enchiladas, charro beans, and other staples are a must from here when a mexican food craving hits.

My wife and I were in Houston for business and we wanted authentic Mexican food. We had a tough time with traffic and took a risk on this spot since it was close to the airport.First the service was excellent . The salsa was served warm which was different but good. The menu had pictures so that help in a foreign county this would be a red flag but not this place. I had four tacos with different meat on corn shells one word "incredible " wife had Gorditas, one chicken and one steak. Awesome as well.

The low prices and high quality at this taqueria just off I-45 made it well worth the trip! Free parking was in front, more was in back. We picked up a big take-out order for an office party. The nachos, salsa, flour tortillas, salad, and carne asada (fajita beef and chicken entrees served with rice, beans, guacamole, tomatoes, lettuce, and pico de gallo) were all delicious. Even the sweet iced tea was super good. We most raved to each other about the incredibly fresh salad ingredients. We also appreciated that the busy staff got our lunchtime order exactly right. If you travel anywhere near downtown Houston be sure to look this one up.

My family often visits "del Sol" when in Houston. We love the casual, laid back atmosphere with a coin operated juke box in the back of the restaurant. Oh...Oh...Oh...the bakery!! Love it! There are more bakery items from south of the border here than you can shake a stick at and they are CHEAP!...uhhhuh...I mean INEXPENSIVE! I can come out of there with two bags of goodies for about $10. WOW! The food is quality, large proportions and you have to get the horchata (rice milk for newbys to the Mexican cuisne). My wife tells me that "This" is real Mexican food. If you find yourself in Houston, this restaurant is absolutely worth searching out and visiting. We always do! Note: It is located near Houston Hobby airport and convenient for a 1st stop after arriving to put yourself in the Texas mood.

The food was good and seemed authentic. The service was fast and attentive. The atmosphere is loud, so to me that’s authentic as well. Plus they have a bakery with many if the traditional Mexican treats. The restaurant is a bit run down and old.

The title says enough. They stay busy. SO if you go on a Snuday after church.... expect a wait. Typical of a good resteraunt with great value!

What a great day! Once in a while you stumble across a great Mexican food dive, this morning I found one. Taqueria Del Sol on I-45S in Houston just has that feel. The first clue was that the parking lot was full; I got the last space in the corner of the lot. Even the exterior of the building has that colorful look that so many fantastic Mexican food joints have. A step through the front door…the restaurant for sure has it here. Choose your table, sit down and take a look at the menu. Wait on the chips and “fresh” hot sauce to hit the table. Some of the best hot sauce I have ever eaten, fresh ingredients, excellent amount of heat that finishes with a slight burn in the middle of the tongue. I had the Huevos al a Mexicana which I do not think is on the menu; it’s just what I wanted so that is what I ordered. Got the tortilla’s maiz which were hot and filled with flavor. For the most part I think the tortilla’s maiz (corn) have much more flavor than tortilla’s harina (flour). The Huevos al a Mexicana was excellent, with great flavor and a good amount of heat. The refried beans and stewed potatoes hit the right spot too. Awesome feel, smells and flavors at a reasonable price. What else can you ask for?

While not in the most brightly lit area of town, this gem is worth the time. It is great, authentic Mexican food offering a wide variety of meats including steak, chicken, pork, lengua, nopalitos and more! No Spanish language knowledge necessary, though that's definitely the staff's and guests' first language. The panaderia (bakery) next door offers authentic Mexican pastries as well. Be forewarned, the cinnamon rolls have coconut! 10/10 would go again!

Carne Asada plate was very good, reasonably priced and fast efficient service. Would highly recommend as your last stop before heading to the airport.....Well done!

My family picked Taqueria Del Sol because of their authentic taco fillings. We were not disappointed. They have lengua, cactus and all the traditional meats. We also tried menudo soup (tripa). It was so yummy! The meat was tasty but the broth was amazing! We spoke to the owner (3rd generation). The business has been there for 35 years! It is a small, family business so don't expect fancy. You can expect amazing food and really nice people. Don't skip dessert at the attached bakery 😀
Authentic Mexican bargain, few Anglos, best Huevos Rancheros & Cactus ever!
Do you like exploring dives where only locals hang out, perhaps being the only English speaking table in the room? If you have to eat in a pristine, spic and span restaurant, this is not it. But for reasonable, authentic Mexican grill kind of bargains, this is your Heaven! A full plate of delicious, runny Huevos Rancheros with all the trimmings (flour or corn Tortillia's) can be had before 10:30 AM for less than $4!! Listen up, I will share my favorite dish you cannot find at any TexMex pretender: Nopalitos (tender cactus). They used to serve it as a side dish, stewed with onions and tomatoes but now, only the traditional cactus mixed with scrambled eggs in a quesadilla or gordito ( I prefer with cheese in a quesadilla-kind of like a jazzed up grilled cheese!) My friend from Mexico won't eat this, as she says cactus is what you eat in Mexico when you are dirt poor, as it is freely available, but don't you want to try it? Seems very nutritious too! Afterwards, the bakery that is attached is a must for To-Go reminder of a special place. Unfortunately, the prices have doubled since the family sold it out to another enterprise, but the offerings are still authentic and delish. grab a large tray and use the huge tongs to grab what you want out of the aging glass cabinets. Must try Susans: White wedding type cookies with rich chocolate icing kisses in the center, huge cookies with colored sprinkles, sugar donuts, Cheryl filled pastries, and refrigerated tres leches cake, sold by the piece for $2 each or the whole cake at $15. Mocha chocolate Tres Leche cake is to die for. You can opt to buy a piece first and eat it in the main restaurant after your Nopalitos! Cash only if ticket is under $5! We cannot fly in or out of Hobby airport without stopping by. Leave airport, go toward I 45 on Broadway. Stay in right lane on Broadway even under the freeway; go under I 45 and stay straight to end up in their side parking lot. You will see bright yellow building with name clearly on the freeway side. Don't park in the insurance co lot, but pass in front of the taqueria and there's a huge parking lot around the left side behind the restaurant. Very crowded on weekends till 1 pm! This neighborhood is best in daylight only for newbies, even though the restaurant stays open very late.
