Awesome Cheap Eats!

By Barpro2 |

We found this by chance driving thru Little Havana.. And it was right before we reached 95 at then end of 8th which is a one way. It was fabulous. For the price you can't beat.. All locals were eating there...server was nice too!

Tacos

By NestorTrujillo |

They offer good mexican food, good flavor good portions it is located on the very busy calle ocho but there is always parking available.

authentic delicious amazing Mexican food!

By GabyN29 |

I like to be a purist when it comes to food, and I am thrilled every time I find an ethnic restaurant that is true to their folklore and is not a washed down commercialized american imitation. This is just the place for Mexican food. The best tacos, burritos, flautas, fajitas, you name it! Everything is delicious. AND super affordable!

EDWARD, ELSY & OAXACA!

By Cross-Culture-Maven |

I’ve been coming here for nearly 20 years through its various incarnations. I no longer live here. Without exaggerating, it is a reason I come to Miami from Buffalo. I cannot find the authenticity in any other North American Mexican restaurant. Edward and Elsy are the heart of this joint. They started working here in their 20s, and continue rising in management as they approach middle age. Ask for either one of them, and you will see why this place is popular. Their personality, quest for authentic quality, & flexibility, make them two of the most special people in my life. The new owners can be very pleased with this blessing. The shift in focus to a Oaxacan ambiance is a stroke of genius. Oaxaca Mexico is the cultural engine of Mexico in my opinion.

Oldie but goodie

By nbermond |

I've been coming to Taquerias since I was in high school. Let me tell you that this ace hasn't changed a bit since the late 90s. The decor and tables are all exactly the same with the difference that back then they had a juke box playing Rocio Durcal, Alejandro Fernandez and Juan Gabriel music. The food was excellent back then and it's still that way today. The only difference is that the juke box is gone and they now play reggaeton (meh). This place is as close to authentic Mexican food as you'll get in Miami. The only thing I would change (other than the super old decor and the mirror wall) is the cheap tequila they use for their margaritas. If you're a real Mexican place you should have real good quality tequila. I'll keep visiting Taquerias I just won't ever order the margarita.

Food was cold, service sucks...

Excellent

By flip08 |

Love the food here! Don't expect good service but you will get excellent food. Garnachos are a must try!

Too expensive, really?

By doriscar40 |

We have been coming to this hole in the wall for years. However this was the first time we bring out boys. We bragged about it for hours. Well, surprise, surprise!! The place has been remodel that's a good thing but OMG, we paid the price. I mean WE ALL PAID THE PRICE! We paid $138 for 1 burrito, 1 enchilada plate, 1 taco plate and chile relleno(side order), guacamole, 3 drinks and please don't ask to be refilled, you will get charged. They charge you for every chip and smile they give to you. Not worth it! Bye FELICIA!

Ehhh

By 420ashh |

Service is slow, waiters don't spend more then 2 seconds with you. Food is good. Love the pinatas but not the waiters. Don't bring candy to u. Don't smile; order is wrong most of the time.

Disappointing

By sidlambersky |

My wife and I went in there after it reopened. We were hoping for a nice local place for great Mexican food. We were very disappointed. The chips and salsa were good, though the salsa was all water. We ordered Tacos and my wife ordered chicken tacos and received shredded pork tacos. I did receive chicken tacos but the chicken was shredded and probably dark meat. Not what we expected. We will not be back

Nice staff

By MsKass |

Good service, food a little undercooked but overall my experiences have always been positive. The restaurant has recently undergone renovation and expansion. The prices are much higher than it used to be.

Chilaquiles

By Eduardo C |

This is the third time that I go to the Mexican taqueria and everything I've tried in this place is very good and good service

Authentic and excellent.

By Moe22 |

Fun atmosphere. Authentic Mexican food. Don’t let the location fool you as the service and food is top notch. Plenty of food and great value. You won’t go wrong eating here.

Excellent food and service

I read the good comments in facebook, i went today for lunch and the food and service are great! Elsie is the best! I will come back for 5 de Mayo celebration

BAD FOOD BAD SERVICE OVERPRICED

By esterlino16 |

1) Food is below par. The nacho garnacho was anything but nachos. You can get better and bigger order at the Cheese cake factory. 2) Service was one star only, if any. The server was very nice and tried her best but you can tell she lacked basic training. 3) The ambience was the same old same restaurant with a fresh coat of painting. Other 4: Too overpriced for a cheap mexican food joint on calle 8. $18 for a burrito...crazy rip-off . You can get the same burrito at Taco Bell for $5 and much better quality, with real meat inside. The beef burrito at El Mexicano is stuffed with lettuce and almost no meat. The push for 18% service charge calculated including the taxes...since when we tip the government? And to make things worse, the "manager" a tall brunette with an attitude...! BOTTOM LINE. Don't waste your time and money in this joint. It is not what it used to be. OVERPRICED BAD FOOD AND VERY POOR SERVICE. They are playing the "tourist trap card". For the time I got home, I was sick to my stomach.

Authentic Mexican in Little Havana

By Ilios76 |

Great food at reasonable prices. No wonder the downtown crowd comes here for lunch break. I loved the guacamole with fresh tortillas, and the enchiladas in mole were delicious.

Nice place with tasty food

By Axel P |

The food is super tasty here. Try the carne asada and the burritos! They are awesome. The way they cook beans is wonderful. Prices are reasonable. Service is very good. Next time I going to try margaritas, they look real good.

Top quality - an original - down to earth

By WORLDTRAVELLER192013 |

Enjoyed a wonderful Mexican evening with excellent service and down to earth unique atmosphere. Thank you to the team !

You gotta try it!!!

By David M |

I come all the way from Chicago to eat here, and chicago has its fair share of Mexican food, but this is my favorite, the staff and ownership always treat their customers right.

Delicious food!

By Fal L |

The food and service were great. I recommend the cheese enchilada and the classic margarita. The restaurant is in a safe location in Miami.

Expected to be better

By Fabiana S |

I have been passing by this restaurant for over 10 years and today I decided to give it a try. Cool atmosphere inside, service slow. We ordered a guacamole that never arrived but was on the check. Tacos are very small and not for my taste. Sadly this came out not to be good as I thought. We will give it another try in the future to make sure it was not a bad day for them.

One of the best Mexican food places in Miami

By geo62 |

I've been coming here for over 20 years, I was introduced by a Mexican friend and I never looked back. Great food and clean restaurant. Price is also a price. Try the queso fundido excellent.

Great Mexican food

By absuhr |

Very nice food and a seemingly authentic Mexican restaurants. Unfortunately the vegetarian menu was sold out, and they didn't really have any other vegetarian main courses.

GOOD and so cheap!

By Diana B |

I already visited this place last year, is a modest mexican taqueria, nothing fancy, just traditional food an great margaritas! the food is goo enough but the price is amazing, so cheap for the quality, I definitely recommend for a low budget! better this than any fast food!

Going Back ...

By Gilberto O |

I stopped here for a quick lunch with my wife. We both were impressed. It is not sexy but the service, food and pricing are very good. My wife is gluten intolerant so she had tacos with the shells made out of corn. I had the burritos and enchiladas. Everything was to our liking. Simple but good.

Great Tacos at a great price

By Jurnee |

This a Mexican grocery/restaurant with a fairly basic menu but what is served is delicious. The tacos sample platter was around $9 with 3 types of soft corn taco - shrimp, chicken and pork. All 3 were exceptionally well flavored with hints of lime and tequila in the chicken. The Mexican corn is fun - slathered in - what else - cheese and chili powder. With drink the entire bill came to under $15 and I couldn't eat another bite. Best tacos I've had in a while and the service was fast and friendly.

Still a quality spot

By travelbug2332 |

Came here with a friend in August. Had not been to this place in a very long time. I ordered the carne asada taco plate which is my usual and was not disappointed. It was fairly full at lunch time and the service was good. Recommend for tourist or local alike.

Real mexican food affortable

By Mike_Judge |

We entered this Restaurant more or the less by accident. It is not a fancy place but it is authentic and the food is real mexican food!! The burrito was fantastic as well as the guacamole! The service is fast and very friendly. If you are looking for good food at an affortable Price - this is the place

Best tacos de lengua in Miami

By Benjamin R |

Very nice and tasteful tacos de lengua. After visit several places in Miami looking for real and authentic Mexican food, this place fulfill requirements.

First time here

By Крљар Н |

Fast service, tacos are very good. No charge for any add or change for food. Multi-lingual employees. Fair prices.

lunch in miami

By Vinlo922 |

We had the lunch special where you could order three tacos and it came with rice and refried beans. There was a choice of eight different tacos and we tried six different kinds, from pork, steak, chicken, vegetarian and fish. The quality was excellent for each. I would argue that it has the best tacos recipes in the country.

Real Mexican Food just delicious

By Jogotango |

Great Mexican Restaurant with good value for money. Try the Delicious Guacomole And Chips and the Taco Platter. Nice staff and interior. Best for lunch.

Adiós

By Happy K |

We have been coming to this restaurant for 20 years. Always good food. However, we noted today after a couple of months absence, that prices have almost doubled. Music too loud at lunch. Adios ,it was good while it lasted.

authentic as it gets

By Glen W |

if you like finding those little "hole in the wall" great spots, step right up. clean and colorful with very helpful servers. This place is very simple but well run. we had mixed fajitas, some tacos, & i'm sure the best burrito i'll ever have. we will certainly return to this simple gem...

New owners - higher prices - food not as good as it use to be

By Holly S |

This was a favorite of my husband and I. We went 2-3 times a week. The last time we stopped in I knew immediately things had changed. A few bites into my stale tortilla chip, bland salsa, and less than tasty enchilada, I knew this place had changed. New owners ruined one of the best in Miami. Very disappointing..

More or less

By Minaldi |

We had some O.K. Tacos, but not really Mexican Taste. Quality was so-so and amount was not big for a rather high price. Better go for other places.

Great Mexican Food! and reasonably priced too

By luckytravelersLI |

The mole (chocolate) sauce is among the best I've ever had. The place is a hole in the wall, but pleasant and clean. The service is very friendly, and expedient. They tend to be crowded which tells a lot. The food I've had is always excellent. Strongly recommend it if you are in the area.

Hell yes, authentic Mexican food!

By madtv261 |

We visited this place as it was walking distance to our air bnb, in a very diverse part of Little Havana. The menu makes you second guess your choices because everything sounds fantastic. I ended up with the house made horchata to drink followed by tripe tacos. What a delicious treat, all of us enjoyed our selections and the house made margaritas can't be forgotten!

An OK option for Mexican food

By Ron M |

My wife and I were vacationing in Miami Beach, and one day we were passing through the area at lunchtime and decided to try Taqueria El Mexicano (we really love Mexican food). We were able to park in the street right in front of the restaurant, which was a good thing because I didn’t see a parking lot anywhere. The inside was clean and had a quaint Mexican store theme. Service was good. We had margaritas on the rocks and they were very good! My food, however, was not too good. I was happy to see they had a vegetarian burrito (I'm a vegetarian), but truthfully, it was maybe one step up from Taco Bell…basically some rice and lettuce in a flour tortilla. I forgot what my wife had but I don’t remember her raving over it. So, if you’re in the area and you’re not too picky about your Mexican food, Taqueria El Mexico is an OK option.

was not impressed

By jessica1273 |

I do not think this is authentic mexican food.. the chips were old and stale , and my torta was not good. My companions were not happy with their food either .. the servers were not friendly and atmosphere , no.. do not recommend

Horrible service

By S A |

Visited with friends who were hungry for Mexican food. I’d been here once before and warned them it was ok, not great. We ordered our food and waited. We waited and waited a long time for our food. When I asked how much longer it would take, the waitress rolled her eyes at us! We left.

Vegetarians must try this place

By Jayhir |

We were looking for a Mexican restaurant that serves vegetarian-friendly meals in the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale area and this was the best! It is located on the east side of Little Havana and parking can be a challenge, however, the food and service make up for it. For those who love spice salsa, their green salsa is simply the best. Their vegetarian combo, tostada, and burrito were all super delicious and I would recommend this to anyone looking for good Mexican food.

Excelent mexican food

By Vanessa A |

The taste of the food is great, good variety, reasonable prices, clean and good service. I've been there a couple of time, always order something different and I've never been dissapointed

Delicious "Real Deal"

By Carrotqueen214 |

From what I saw, you couldn't order wrong at this immaculately clean and wonderfully welcoming family-run place! For sure locals are regular customers--which is always a good sign--but newcomers like me are welcome! Had a combination plate--soft taco, tamale, rice and beans--was deee-lish and lots of it! Salsa was delectably seasoned and home-made and served with really fresh tortilla chips. Service was great and the atmosphere was relaxed but also tables at business lunches. When in Miami, will be back!

Tacos Anyone

By FPAdventurer |

The restaurant has average tasting tacos. Compared to other Miami restaurants it is cheap, except for the guacamole. Don't be fooled as it taste good but they charge you as if it were caviar. The quality of the tacos has gone down a bit.

Good authentic Mexican food and great atmosphere

By Stonylou |

This was one of the only restaurants within walking distance of our Airbnb so thought we’d give it a go despite the recent reviews. The food was excellent, good authentic Mexican that felt homemade and yes, it was a little pricey but then a) where isn’t these days and b) you’re in a large (and generally very expensive) city so that’s kind of to be expected. We had the Molcajete to share which was plenty for 2 people and got some extra tortillas for free once we’d run out. The churros for dessert was fantastic - not greasy at all and the waitress brought us an extra pot of sauce FOC after we couldn’t decide which one to have. The waitress was excellent although probably a little overworked. They could have easily had another server and it not felt like too many, but this didn’t detract from the service. The only downside was that it was very smoky in the restaurant from the food being cooked so our clothes stank after leaving, a decent extraction system is well needed! Overall though we were really pleased with our meal and would recommend it.

Genuine Mexican food

By Pernilla1970 |

A true authentic Mexican restaurant, definitely not for tourists. Good food, good prices. Not fancy, not in best area of the city, but one the best I have ever tried

Very average place to eat

By Cynthia S |

The restaurant is very well lit and clean. The food, however; is not as glorious. The chicken taste like canned chicken from the store. The burrito had a red type of sauce that seemed to be tomato base. The alcohol is very overpriced. I wouldn't rely on this for a good "mexican" experience.

no need to drive to homestead... this is authentic mexican food in the heart of little havana and the prices are super...

no need to drive to homestead... this is authentic mexican food in the heart of little havana and the prices are super wallet-friendly!

Authentic Mexican food

So delicious cheap tacos it was worth it to walk little scary area lol it was 4 pm when we saw this store packed with people we had to try and it was awesome great to stop by little quick meal

Really Bad Service

By immer m |

this place have the worst customer service in Miami and their food is not bad at all but they think they are doing you a favor for you been there..

Very disappointing

By wparker33 |

Went to this restaurant in Little Havana expecting authentic Mexican food (we have lived in Mexico and currently live in Arizona). Encouraged that the restaurant was almost full. My wife loves chile rellenos and ordered it here. What she got was filled with nasty yellow cheese, had soggy breeding, and was covered with tomato sauce straight out of the can. I got tacos that weren't as good as Taco Bell. The rice and beans were the best part of the meal and were ordinary at best.

Undercooked chicken

By MsKass |

I don't know if I will come back now this is the second time I got undercooked meat. I usually give a second chance but not a third.

Meh

By natzeli m |

Been here a couple times and not really impressed. The tacos are super small a lot of onion and not enough meat, the burritos are simple but the gorditas are really delicious. The staff there is very unfriendly they take your order with an annoyed face the whole time.

Best burrito ever...you...

By Tom C |

Best burrito ever...you won't be dissapointed.

Excellent at a great price

By blkdoggy421 |

This is a neighborhood place, it's very low key, small, I probably would not have gone in a friend would not have told me about it. Went there to eat on a Friday night with my wife and daughter. The place is not tex mex this is authenticate mexican. Found the food to be excellent. The service was ok, could have been a little better, it took a bit before they acknowledged us. The margaritas are mixed by the waiters but are good for the price. Would go there again.

A must!!

By noelpr2023 |

So everytime we come to miami my wife just has to have this place. Excellent food! We really like the sopes. We dont really have authentic options back home in Puerto Rico.

Not so good...

By jkeek27 |

Was very disappointed. My husband ordered Tacos- Did not have much meat and I had to look for the guacamole. Flavor was just not there. These tacos may be for people who have not had authentic tacos before. I ordered a plate with a carne asada taco, a "swiss enchilada" and another item. The taco came in a shell tortilla. It was so disappointing, I felt like I was eating at Taco Bell. I would not recommend this place to eat tacos at.

Cheap but good

By Chamariapa |

This is a very low key restaurant in Calle 8, the food is very traditional and great, portion are normal, the flavor of the food is always fresh and tasty, Guacamole is real and spice; melted cheese, and the steamed cooked beef tacos are incredible, this is a place that you want to visit weather you are in a budget or no, it reminds me a Ciudad de Mexico corner restaurant, they also serve margaritas, Mexican beers and aguas. Don't get intimidated by Calle 8 or the exterior of the place. Try, I been going there for 10 years and I always go when I am visiting Miami.

Horrible expensive so called " Food Mexican"

By Teresa C |

First of all or waitress seemed like she had just woken up with an attitude! She was so rude. Second my nephew and I ordered a shrimp cocktail for $10 each and only had 4 medium sized shrimps I am not over exaggerating! Then the "tacos" the rest of my family ordered had the smallest portion of meat I've ever seen on a taco with lettuce and tomatoes instead of cilantro and onion. This restaurant is over priced for the portion of food they provide. The chips where so stale and hard. Taco bell probably has better service and better food for about 1/2 the price... Not recommended go spend your money else where!

a Mexican experience!

By Jenny C |

The food it's tasty the drinks are delicious the customer service it's really nice , and the upstairs it's the total Mexican Cancun experience! Fun ! Music! Beautiful patio also , really nice with extremely good service! Love the concept! It's not only a place for tacos ! if you are in the area give it a try ! Los altos !

Real mexican food

By Mauro Z |

This is not the usual texmex place. This is real mexican food, small but nice rest., very affordable prices. Trust me on this and have lunch here.

Always hits the spot!

By Angel R |

You know that feeling....you want Mexican food but you don't want to go fancy...you want real , fresh , authentic and always affordable Mexican! So this is the place then! Best hue is rancheros in town as well as everything else! Not to be missed!

Best Authentic Mexican Food in Miami

By parkerpr |

We have visited this restaurant twice and enjoy the food and margaritas. Not your typical chain restaurant, but an actual mom and pop place. The guacamole was fresh and flavorful, mix with a little of the green salsa for a pop of heat. The dishes were plentiful and full of flavor. One of my criteria of great Mexican food is the taste and quality of the refried beans... these are the best! Worth the time to enjoy this little slice of Mexico in Miami.

Excellent and Inexpensive.

By Absolute_Cuban |

Last night a friend and I had dinner at this place. I was in heaven. We first order the queso fundido with chorizo served with hot tortillas. It was awesome and plentiful. After He had the chicken breast with mole sauce with a side of rice and I had a big chicken burrito with mole sauce over the burrito. It was so good I had a smile on my face the whole time. I had a Corona and he had a Coke. Bill came out too less then $30.

AUTHENTIC ATMOSPHERE and REASONABLE PRICES

By GabrieleNorge |

A simple and not pretentious restaurant at CALLE 8 (LITTLE HAVANA / MIAMI). Very good food (don't miss out the GUACAMOLE APPETIZER....simply delicious) and very reasonable prices. I would definitely recommend it! '

Grossly Overpriced and Tasteless Food

By Skip Joseph |

A group of three went out for lunch and ordered guacamole, priced at $14, which seemed to be made from just two Haas avocados--avocados you can sometimes find for $1 each. The Caldo de Res soup was $18, and the four entrées averaged around $20 each. An automatic 18% tip was added to the bill, despite the service not justifying it. The only reasonably priced items were the fruit drinks at $4 each, but they were filled to the brim with ice, diluting them. For what essentially amounted to rice and beans with a small amount of chicken or beef, I felt overcharged, with the total bill coming to $132.30 for lunch. We have no intention of returning.

Just because it's 5!

By Felix Ivan L |

In calle ocho the best "authentic " Mexican Food . It's affordable and delicioso! The tortilla soup great appetizer and follow that with a few tacos and a Modelo original .

A liitle Mexico in Little Havana

By dunkla |

Authentic Mexican cuisine at an affordable price. The food is delicious and savory and truly Mexican. They have a bar upstairs where you can enjoy their awesome Margaritas while you wait for a table. Servers are beautifully dressed in traditional Mexican attire. Very friendly. The only drawback of course is parking. There is only street parking. But the food, drinks and ambiance makes up for it. Well worth the trip. Great for family events or office parties or happy hour upstairs. Word of caution...their sauce is HOT🔥, even the mild one has a bite to it and kick. Their hot sauce (picante) is super hot. Don't say I didn't warn you. Not the place to go alone, as there could be one or two homeless sleeping on the curb. So tred lightly.

Very good !!!

By Alvaro B |

Food is always good and the prices are average we come here very often and the service is good i love the Burritos and tacos al Pastor

Authentic

By doriscar40 |

Food is very, very good! I'm a proud Mexican and a foodie. Of course when I say this place is authentic you have to believe me. However the actual place needs mayor TLC and the customer service needs a smile. But if you can overpass that and you are there for the food you are in for a treat! Yum!

We loved it

By Rumbero75 |

We ate here today, my wife had a chicken & beef taco and a side of beans. I had the carnitas tacos with rice & beans. The beans were really good, so were the tacos. The prices are really modest. This is right on Calle 8 in front of El Presidente supermarket, between 4th and 6th. I also had a Modelo Negra it was really good served with a cold mug. We were pleasently surprised, we would return for sure.

Excellent

By Oded S |

Had a brunch there, with a typical rice, eggs, tomato, frijol plate, served with excellent home made tortilla! Perfect perfect perfect guacamole!!! Loved the vibe

shhh, don't tell anyone

By raid5009 |

hidden gem. dont go telling no one about it! fantastic food, good authenticity, and the prices are right. do yourself a favor and get extra salsa verde. they also carry a lot of authentic spices/grocer items from mexico.

Absolutely DELISH!

By Torri K |

Obviously in South Florida Cuban fare is dominant in restaurants however as a person from the Southwest part of the country, I love Mexican and this place is spot on. The margaritas were soooo good! Carne asada, barbacoa, carnitas, al pastor, chorizo, burritos, tacos, enchiladas...just go over there and get some good Mexican food!

The Best Authentic Mexican Place in Miami

By Elena |

My husband and I tried so many Mexican places in Miami over the years, but most of them either serve not authentic Mexican food or generally not good. Taquerlas El Mexicano is our favorite Mexican place now. Churros, margaritas, chilaquiles, tacos, sopas, combos (basically everything on the menu) are all delicious! The staff there is very nice, friendly and polite.

Tipical mexican specialties

By Sobreviviente |

If you want to taste original tipical Mexican specialties and at good prices , this is the place. Excellent food and service.

not good

By 949JessicaK |

Of all the choices to eat while visiting the area I think we picked the worst .. service was bad, chips were old and stale , food was not authentic mexican food .. when I hear the word taquiera I am expecting carne asada tacos with cilantro, onion and lime.. not what I got .. taco bell would have been better ..

We asked the Neighbor for what he thought was the best

By ERNEST B |

We rented a house in Coral Gables for a week so I asked the Neighbor for his suggestion of the best Mexican Restaurant in Miami. He said it was a hole in the wall on SW 8th- knowing that those were the best Mexican Restaurants in Denver when I was a kid, we took the Grandkids and drove into little Havana-- The Restaurant isn't quite the dive I expected but the food was what we wanted. I had tacos which were some of the best I've ever eaten. Nice menu, cheap food, and decent service.

Real Mexican

By Wolfgangamadeusmarco |

A true Mexican place in the heart of Miami... but being a big fan of Real-Mex was not impressed and gave an average rating... if you really want good "real" Mexican food and have a car go to Homestead instead were you can find many great real Mexican restaurants. Service could also be better... a little smile and less attitude could help. Hopefully I would find a better place in Miami to avoid the drive to Homestead every time I am in the mood for real Mexican.
