The best place in the area, by far!!!

By Michael C |

The food was terrific and an excellent wine list with service above par!!! We had a great bottle of Pinot noir to accompany my beef Wellington and her lobster tails. Oysters on the half as an appetizer. A nice cognac with a pear tartan to finish. They're open for lunch now and I'll definitely be back.

A Wonderful Addition to Our Side of Town!

This restaurant was opened right at the start of the Covid timeframe. It is placed in a relatively new shopping strip in a somewhat obscure location, just inside Leon Springs. It is a great spot but you have to find it! As the pandemic rage began to ease, it was a great time to visit the spot and I looked forward to experiment. The decorum was business casual to casual, they had a dress code posted but I did see young guests (teens and 20 something’s) in shorts and sandals - it was a warm day so I couldn’t blame them. The dining room furniture was very nice, the bar looked tidy and inviting and the back of the restaurant offered a glass walled kitchen that you could watch the activity of food prep if you cared to. Once seated, we were immediately greeted by our waiter who though a young man, seemed well versed in European mannerisms and knowledge of not only the courses but drinks as well. He was cordial and obviously embraced the role whole heartedly. We selected row dishes based upon his recommendations. A Beef Wellington and Ora King Salmon. Both dishes were exactly as described by the menu - portions were on the large side (no complaint here), flavorful, perfectly seasoned; the Wellington had a light and flakey breading which in itself was a delicious companion to the savory medium rare beef it encased. Without a doubt, the best version of this dish j have had in my travels… even abroad! The Salmon was glazed with a buttery drizzle and was exceptionally clean and light in flavor as fresh salmon is supposed to be. The sides were of perfect proportions to attend the main dishes. We made a promise to return and we shall. Rated this meal and experience a perfect 10!

Well appointed, but execution can be hit and miss.

This is our second visit to Tardif's, and our impression remains at 4 stars. First the descriptors. Tardif's is found in a strip retails and eateries off Interstate 10, just before Leon Springs. There is plenty of parking available, serving this trendy and very popular restaurant. Reservations are highly recommended for the dinner hour, and the attire is upscale casual to dressy. One would not be out of place here for date night, with suit and tie. Entering through heavy...HEAVY doors, see the hostess dais and straight beyond the chef's kitchen, right the bar with seating, and left, the more generous seating tables. The decor is very contemporary, tables and booths with white cloths, the staff dressed in black with white vests. The ambience is lively, but the sound level not interfering with our table conversation. Our party was seated immediately at the reserved time, and greeted by our waiter Kyle, a young gentleman of pleasant and professional demeanor. We began our evening with aperitifs: dirty vodka martinis, old fashioned and Tardif's margarita. In our opinion, well prepared! Appetizer: steak tartare, this iteration of chopped tenderloin, elegantly spiced, the perfect delicacy on plate or on their freshly baked bread. This appetizer was universally enjoyed by our party. We enjoyed Duck Magret, the distinctive flavor enhanced by the preparation, well finished. The veal cutlet was offered as cordon bleu, lightly breaded, and tender. Definitely recommend. The filet mignon was well seared, and rare, as we preferred, but somewhat lacking in seasoning. Finally at table was the branzino dressed with the Tardif Beurre Blanc sauce. In truth, the butterflied creature suffers the dread, forbidden overcook, and while the sauce was commendable, the overcook limited enjoyment. We sided with asparagus sided with hollandaise. Digestifs: repeat the Old Fashioned, creme brule martini. One note about our previous visit. Most notable and disappointing was their heralded Beef Wellington. Too doughy, chewy, not tender as one must expect, a major disappointment. We enjoyed the well appointed nature of the restaurant and the professionalism of the staff. But given the previous miss with the Wellington and the present fish overcook, we would expect more from the chef. In fairness, most of our friends love this restaurant, but compared to other restaurants in the city, we find the value proposition somewhat lacking.

First visit and likely our last

We made an early dinner reservation (6:15pm - they open at 5pm) and were excited to try the Lobster Wellington only to be told that a large party had already reserved all the inventory they had for the evening. We had our waitress ask if they could accommodate just one more since it was our first visit and what we came for, but after a few minutes, she returned to share that they could not. At that point, it didn't feel like an exclusive item, it just made us feel not valued as customers (especially first time customers). The service was slower than expected and the waitress made herself scarce after the awkwardness around the menu disappointment. Both the wait staff and manager told us we could reserve the Lobster Wellington by putting a note in our reservation next time, but sadly, there won't be a next time. This is just not the kind of customer service that is worth paying ~$100 per person for. We were celebrating a special event and the menu ordeal really put a damper on the night. I'm just glad it wasn't a birthday or anniversary! We tried the Beef Wellington and the veal, which both looked great when they arrived, but were just ok. Overall, it was a bust.

The best food I have EVER had

By Shan B |

This has got to be the best restaurant in San Antonio. The food was amazing and the service was impeccable. We started with the bone marrow, a MUST! I had lobster, my oldest son had Lamb and the youngest had Beef Wellington. All dishes were top notch and we ate every single bite. A bit pricey, but worth it!

A Great Evening

This was our first visit to Tardif and we were very pleasantly surprised. The decor of the restaurant is very nice. The food was amazing! For that reason alone, I gave it 5 stars. We were a party of 4 and we all ordered seafood. Our friends said it was the best salmon they had ever had! We ordered the snapper and shared it. The portions are large, so this was perfect as we also shared a salad and the cauliflower. All delicious! The service was a bit slow, but as we were not in a hurry, this didn’t bother us. We will return to try other items on the menu!

Overpriced & Overblown; Not Worth It!

We had really been looking forward to trying this place. Wish we hadn't. This place follows the logic that if you are located next to the Dominion, you can do everything half-assed and charge triple for it. Our waiter took over 10 minutes to greet us and never asked us for a drink order. Then came back 15 minutes later and asked if anything enticed us. I ordered a sweet tea, but got an unsweet tea with no explanation. I ordered the Beef Wellington. I was really excited to try it. It came in a beautifully wrapped pastry, but that was it. Filet in pastry. That's not Beef Wellington!! It was missing the duxelles, as well as any real flavor. Finally, if you're going to call yourself a combo of American and Brasserie, the obvious expectation would be that you are combining American and French entrees. Not so here. BTW, that not quite Beef Wellington was $65!!!! Absolutely outrageous. We need some nice cafes in the area, not overblown overpriced buildings that are a bad response to someone's ego!!!

Wonderful food

Went in craving duck, and I was not disappointed. The food was great as well as the atmosphere. I enjoyed the escargot as well as some foie gras. My husband had the veal chop. The signature drinks were an added touch.

Solid food, great service

By FiveDivers |

Having been to France many times, I was excited to try out Tardif. Excellent service but meal was unremarkable. Escargot was flavorful but the texture was rubber band chewy. Salad verte was simple, nothing remarkable. Branzino and roasted chicken were both good but nothing special. The best part of the meal was the pear tart...that was excellent.

The place has dress code, it is elegant and the French style food very good, excellent customer service, I recommend that in case order the veal cordon bleu consider that it takes between 30-40 min, the price is high but worth it especially for the branzino

Amazing birthday dinner

By Richelle M |

Returned tonight for my husband’s birthday. Herman was our server. He is truly outstanding! He is friendly, professional, timely and very knowledgeable about the menu. Herman made several great recommendations for our meal. We have a variety of dishes including beef, lamb and scallops. All were fantastic!

It Kept Getting Better

By Michael P |

Great atmosphere and overall layout of the dining area. A group of 8 sat at the Chefs Table and were waited on by a host of people including the owner and executive chef. A 7 course meal with wine pairings is something that should be experienced at Tardif's. Duck confit wrapped in puff pastry (filo) was to start and was outstanding. Scallops and filet of sole were prepared to perfection. Nothing over or under cooked and most importantly, served at the right time. Foie Gras sliders were a good surprise. Each wine paring worked perfectly with the course. There are not many restaurants in the area that are this good. It's worth the trip.

Should be in the top five restaurants in San Antonio

By WBWII |

I have eaten at most of the top 20 restaurants listed on Trip Advisor and Tardif's American Brasserie could replace any of the top 5 they have listed in San Antonio. Signature should also be added to this group of five as well. The food and service were excellent and reasonably priced for the quality of the food, service and atmosphere. My Wife and I had brunch and we will be going back for dinner soon. You should go as soon as you can before reservations are impossible to get. The trip from downtown and the 78209 is worth the trip. This place will be added to my short list of preferred hang outs. I can say the steak sandwich I has was second to none as was the French Onion Soup. I cannot wait to go back as I saw many items I want to try. The salmon look incredible. The atmosphere is elegant but not too formal. I believe I must reiterate the value was excellent. Overall 5 BIG STARS.

Wonderful Mother’s Day Dinner

By Heather T |

We went in for Mother’s Day and I was greeted at the door with a beautiful rose. We were instantly seated and cocktails were ordered and received quickly. Our waitress was attentive and never far from the table. The food was delicious… we had two vegetarians with us and they loved the food, too! It is a little pricey, but you get what you pay for!

New management, different vibe - not great

By Charlotte D |

This was our fourth visit in two years, and everything was different. Not the same vibe. The service was great, so a shout out to our waitress who took very good care of us. The marble shelf next to our table was covered in a layer of dust. The TV's were showing basketball. The music was not "dinner ambience" more of nightclub beat. First course of oysters on the half shell, oysters were gritty. Second course was scallops carpaccio, very salty and also gritty. Selected salmon for my entree, the server did not ask how I like it prepared, or the customary question like "chef recommends medium rare is that OK?" It was very well done, which as it happens is not how I like it. Finally, I asked if the restaurant was under new management and the answer was yes. Prices are very high end, and this was a special birthday dinner, so it was very dissapointing. We will not be back.

Birthday lunch

By Sherry J. S. |

Oh how upset I am and how rude this restaurant can possibly be! I had my birthday lunch reservations scheduled for May 4, 2022, tomorrow and I just received a call at 4:00 in the afternoon from a hostess stating that my reservation has been cancelled because they’ve scheduled a PR ( public relations photo shoot!). I’m beside myself and very angry! Who does this?? Customers ALWAYS come first~ you could’ve had your photo shoot another day or before you open! Oh, and offered me a free drink if I want to reschedule! Hahaha! Thank you for nothing, I will NEVER go to your establishment . Shame on the management who thought this was “OK
