Great Bakery, Awkward Cafe Experience

By Larry R |

The quality of the food is undisputed, but the layout and ordering system could be better. The porchetta sandwich is solid, but not the best item on the menu. Go for the Eggplant or Grilled Cheese for a memorable meal. Salads are nicely constructed and if you get a side order of bread & butter you can still have the full-on Tartine experience. Seating is scarce for the size of the operation and results in unnecessary interruption to the great dining vibe. Off beaten path location allows for street parking if you are visiting by auto.

Beautiful space and amazing bakery. Great day to go to Heath, walk around and then visit Tartine. Smells like fresh bread!

Dinner with daughter

By Edward_Nieskes |

While I was in town for work, my daughter suggested that we go here to eat. Place is small, but not cramped. We had to wait a bit to get our reservation (to be fair, we arrived earlier and asked if we could sit earlier), but we enjoyed the small bar in the corner. When we did sit, we were served some fresh bread and butter. We only had a short wait for our meals to come out. We had a vegetable minestrone with meatball soup and the full tilt farms chicken with Brussels sprouts. Both were excellent.

Great bread, antiquated ordering process

By Steve1592 |

Ordered three (3) loaves of bread: Country (sourdough), Rye and Olive. Order was accepted and paid for. Two days later, got call that olive bread was not being made that day (despite website and person who originally took order that said it was available). Swapped Olive bread for Oatmeal Porridge. When we picked up order, we were given wheat bread. The bread is truly excellent, but the ordering process is flawed. Also, there is NO PARKING anywhere around the Manufactory. While it is great bread, the prices and problematic parking make it suboptimal experience.

"Best noodle I've ever tasted"

By MAV |

This was an amazing meal. The cocktails were fantastic, as was the bread & butter (yes, it's that good), the avocado toast, the 5-spiced duck, the ribs, and oh my gosh.. the pasta! The title of my review is an actual quote from the meal: "That might be the best noodle I've ever tasted." This is a great restaurant and a great dining experience - highly recommend.

Great atmosphere and the Bread!

Went to both the Manufactory and the Bakery - within walking distance. Absolutely wonderful bread, spent about 1 hour watching the process of mixing and folding. The food is yummy had an asparagus/cheese melt, avocado toast, soup and of course plenty of bread. Can get crowded.

Delicious, thoughtful dishes

By julie248 |

I tried to walk in here in early April for dinner and found out it was fully booked, so I got organized before my next trip at the end of April and got a reservation! Dinner was delightful - I tried a bread course (burrata, lemon, and pistachios), a salad dish, and a scallop main course. Every bite was delicious and the service was impeccable. I want to eat everything on their menus, so I will be back next time I'm in town!

Good brunch, a bit pricy

By Alvaro Barrio |

Nice bakery-restaurant in Mission SF where to have a good brunch or buy some fresh bread. Good sandwiches, cakes and teas. Looks like the brunch place of the moment in SF and you can see in the prices. Little crowded so get prepared to wait for a table

Bakery, Cafe, Restaurant & Bar

This unique warehouse building houses all 4. And, we thought was a fantastic spot to perch over unique cocktails and a snack--- but one can order a meal. We stopped in for a late lunch /early dinner appetizer and tried a couple of genuinely original cocktail options prepared to perfection. The menu does look appetizing w/ a variety of unusually different dishes like -- coddled eggs, sea trout roe, fresh horseradish & za'star toast or grilled cheese, wagon wheel (?) basil, squash blossom, caramelized onions on country bread. We opted for the simple heirloom tomato and burrata tartine w/ basil pesto -- it was yum! but basically a very fresh bruschetta. Many of the dishes are designed to "go with" their variety of freshly baked breads. Tartine Manufactory has it's critics but I think you have to try it and see for yourself.

Really?

I went here around 10am for pastries. Not a huge selection but this is Tartine and I figured whatever they have out must be transcendent and perhaps they only do a few items per day. I ordered a plain croissant, a scone and a big chocolate chip cookie. Pretty pricey. The croissant was big and shiny with egg wash. It was also doughy and tough and slightly chilled, like it had been in a fridge for a few minutes—there were layers but the layers were thick and chewy. I worked at a bakery in NYC for 3 years and these couldn’t hold a candle to the croissants we made then, which would almost melt in your mouth. These are like the croissants that commercial bread companies make for restaurants that want a heavy duty base for ham or roast beef sandwiches. It’s not much of a pastry. The cookie was ok—not sweet and pretty buttery. The scone was extra dry and REALLY needed a coffee to go with it. I know I didn’t try a whole lot of stuff but nothing was that impressive. Additionally, a patron behind me was buying a $14 loaf of bread and asked for it to be sliced. The guy behind the counter says, “we don’t have a slicer at this location.” Seriously? You’re a “manufactory” of baked goods (known particularly for your breads) and you don’t have a commercial slicer? Meh.

Foodie Heaven

I was in San Francisco on business and had some time to kill before heading to the airport. This restaurant was recommended to me. Loved the atmosphere, and the food and wine were amazing. Forget about skipping carbs because the bread is too good to pass on. Great spot.

Wow what a great place to eat!

By Glastotravel |

San Francisco has many gems but this one stands out - the bread for a start - then the food menu and the service and not necessarily in that order. There's no reservations so weekends require placing your name and taking a trip to Gus's community market round the corner while you await your table. Meghan was a delight and we revisited several times during our stay in SF. If you love food you'll love Tartine - thanks!

It's Not Just About the Bread

By William B |

Who would think that a huge cavernous space could be so inviting? This is a bakery. I love watching the bakers behind the glass make the dough. But the warehouse/loft feel with warm woods and polished concrete is a perfect backdrop for this glorious modern bistro food. Let's face facts, this is not a place to eat if you are watching your carbs. Can you eat well without carbs, of course you can. But this is one time to throw caution to the wind. So let's start with... the bread. For me, this is the best bread in the city. I am actually trying to cut back on carbs, so this is a special treat for me. It is so completely worth it that there is absolutely no guilt. I always say "Never eat an inferior calorie." That is even more true for carbs. But Tartine has perfected that flawless, crunchy, perfect crust and depth of flavor that makes one involuntarily say 'Damn the carbs, I'm in." We love to split all our dishes, so we can enjoy more tastes. The portions here are so generous that they are easily shareable. Let's start with the avocado smorrrebrod. I was expecting your basic avocado toast, but the herbs and toppings transformed the basic into exceptional and the dense bread was the perfect platform. The beef tartare rated with the best versions I have had. The octopus was tender and full of flavor. I had their mixed grains which is not something I'd normally get. But this is their thing, so I felt confident that they would bring out their best flavors - I was not dissappointed. The rock cod was truly delicious with exquisite vegetables roasted with the perfectly moist fish - simple and succulent. The star of the mains was the roasted chicken. How did they make such a perfect chicken? So flavorful and moist with that crispy skin. If nothing else, get this. The group at the next table watched our dishes coming and ordered most of them. They completely agreed with our reviews. We capped the evening with a rich buttery cake with a side of ice cream. How perfect could an evening be? A thoughtful wine list by the glass, An interesting non-alcoholic beverage choice completed the experience. As for the service - casual and highly competant were the best way to describe it. The staff were well versed in the menu and could answer all questions with ease. They were very friendy and made the evening even better. Reservations are a must, but you can sit at the large bar if you get a last minute hankering for an incredible meal. Do not miss this place.

Delicious bread

The restaurant belongs to the famous Tartine Bakery. The bread is very delicious but they offer more amazing food. It's quite expensive but definitely worth the money.

Iconic Landmark Has Slipped

By Dhow |

The bakery is still #1. The food is still great if you get the right dish. However it is loud (very loud) and the staff has a lot of attitude. If that stuff does not bother you then plunge on in. It is really over priced. We ordered salad greens and they were wilted with brown spots all over the plate—not something any restaurant should serve, ever. There was no value for the meal at all. $100 for lunch with most of it below par. Maybe they were having a bad day. But I don’t think so. Coasting on reputation...

Best of the best

Incredible food - best bread and baked goods in town. Salads are so fresh and interesting, love the music, the staff, the coffee is EXCELLENT. Overall, this place rules. Customer for life!

Dissapoonted

By iCritic |

Love Tartan, thought this would be a less crowded alternative. The space is light and well designed, but the selection was very limited, the counter service folks were more interested in surfing their phones and gossiping than helping you and the egg sandwiches frankly sucked. What a terrible shame to be associated with such an incredible bakery as Tartan. It’s as if they sold out! Go to the original! Wait in line, it’s worth it!

A rip off

By johnkowloon |

This is a good spot for a healthy lunch, but the prices are ridiculous. My tiny bowl of white bean dip and bread cost $15. The only Chardonnay by the glass was $18. Given that this place is slightly off the beaten track, the prices are egregious. Overpriced.

Meal of the year!!

By Sockster |

Absolutely fabulous!! We came in having no idea. What we were in for. We sat at the bar waiting to order a drink and were never served. We were seated early for our reservation and were so fortunate to be talking wine with associate GM Richard. He recommended a fabulous bottle which we all enjoyed. I asked him if he would orchestrate our meal which he gladly did. Course after course came out of absolutely incredible food- some highlights being the burrata, the sun-choke, the ribs and the scallops. Omg. Everything was made with incredible ingredients and love- and it showed!! The weird thing about dinner was that the servers just weren’t all that enthusiastic. They did their jobs, but there was no enthusiasm about the food, which we all thought was a little weird This said, it didn’t detract at all from our experience and Tartine would be our first reservation on our next trip back to San Francisco. Easily the best meal of the year!! Thank you Richard!!

Great for breakfast and dinner!

By USCKaboom |

We were staying nearby during our SF trip and stopped by in the morning for breakfast. We had a chocolate croissant and a ham and cheese one. Both were quite good, buttery and delicious dough. We came later that day for dinner and glad we went back. The bread alone is worth visiting. The Ceviche was really nice, especially with the crunch for juxtaposition. The heirloom melon was a delightful surprise, and I enjoyed the spicy kick. The tartare was delicious, and a good modern take. I loved the uni toast. The chicken done halal street food style was another highlight. A large delicious dish. We capped off the meal with devils food cake and basque cake. The devils food was great and the basque cake with rosemary ice cream was interesting. Service was very good. The prices were very reasonable. The place also smells like bread which is just awesome.

Believe the hype-

By Teemul0818 |

Food was amazing. Service was attentive. Bread is out of this world. Lovely cocktails. Husband had the 'new groni' and I had the purple fizz. Daughter had strawberry limeade. The green goddess salad is likely one of the best, most freshest salads I have ever had. Porchetta sandwich was amazing. Roast chicken and the ribs delicious. We ordered too much food with the intention of bringing the extra home for leftovers which we enjoyed the next day. It was just as good on day 2. Have heard that the service wasn't the best but we had no complaints. You can buy a loaf of bread there too- get the sesame bread. You won't regret a trip to this restaurant. Check out Heath's pottery next door too.

Best Breakfast in SF

By WWCfromNYC |

This was my favorite breakfast during my recent stay in the city. So YUMMMM and you know it's all fresh! You can watch them baking the bread and everything on the menu looked FAB. I imagine every meal is YUMMMM here, but the refurbished factory setting with the sunlight streaming in through the big windows and the smell of fresh bread baking made it the perfect bfast/brunch destination. When you are done with breakfast, make sure you poke your nose in the neighboring Heath 'factory' and see some local artisans.....and check their magazine shop (it's a good one) one your way out..... Then get a glimpse of the twin peaks while you wonder The Mission taking in all of the street art......(and if you need a second round of coffee walk to Philz Coffee and get one of their funky iced concoctions.) Even if you don't have time for the grand tour, Tartine is worth the trek. Best breakfast I've had in a minute.......

First and last.

By gabe01_11 |

This place needs an urgent class on courtesy and Education. Starting with the host, waiters and service. it gets worst during the stay at the restaurant. Not worth it. the location, the drive, the food could use some better preparation and CHOICES, be prepared to pay $$$$ for an old pre made sandwich. GOOD luck trying to figure out the ingredients. Don’t even attempt to tell your server that you don’t like your food. They are rude and lack of class. The bread is like any other bread in San Francisco. Huge difference if you go to Fisherman’s wharf Boudin. Good bread, good treatment and enjoyable

Very good breakfast and an interesting, spacious industrial design.

By Stephen P |

Knowing that the weekend mornings are busy enough to send a line around the block, we came on a Thursday morning and found the place very comfortably uncluttered. Needing more manufacturing space, Tartine expanded into this factory space where proofing loaves and a huge industrial oven is a positive part of the decor. It's high ceilings create a spacious ambience while also absorbing some excess sound. Though it was not crowded when we were there, it looked as if the space would remain conversational even when busy. Food is ordered at the front counter and brought to table in good time. I tried the breakfast sandwich with eggs, lovely cheese and some braised chard on a brioche bun. It was delicious, although it was one of those sandwiches that can be called "sliders" because the insides slide all over the place. A small problem. My breakfast partner had yoghurt and granola. The yoghurt was also excellent--rich and creamy. The cappuccino was good, although not outstanding by San Francisco standards. The same went for the drip coffee. This probably merits attention as it is such a focus of most people's morning routine, especially here. Prices are a little high ($40 for the two of us) so it would be hard to do this on a very regular basis unless you are a hedge fund manager. Otherwise a very nice breakfast experience.

Amazing

This is am amazing place and great food concept. Try their sourdough bread with various dips. Its build in old factory. This place is trendy a d happening. Just go their for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Its al fresh. We felt in love with this place

Disappointing

By TheWineBear |

Tartine Bakery is one of the outstanding bakeries in the US. Transcendental. Their offspring, Tartine Manufactory, is disappointing by comparison. The only vestige of the original is the high price. On its own, the food is OK. Perhaps good. But it does not live up to expectations from the original. Ham & cheese croissants have so little ham and cheese one needs a microscope to find them. The Gateau Basque was also lacking in the filling. We did not eat a meal, so can not review the prepared food, but the bakery may be a second thought to the prepared food. Perhaps they will bring some staff from the original to help fix these issues?

Top foodie destination

By mocrit |

From the great coffee to the sublime pastries to lunch snacks, great drinks, and full dinners - TM has it all. And on top of it all - the best bread in SF. Get there in the early part of the day to grab a loaf of country bread or sesame whole wheat or a couple of baguettes. Down side issues (but not enough to dissuade me yet) - service can be a little slow, it can get a little loud, and the tables are pretty close.

Soo good!

By ArkansasAmtraker |

We ate here the day before Christmas. There was a 45-min wait, so we opted for seats at the bar. The service was superior and the food was delicious. My wife won w her order of mushrooms tartine. But my black bean and squash was amazing. Get the bread and butter and the jelly because that too is not to be missed. I can see why it was crowded!

Disappointing

By RCPeachy |

I Think that Tartine is a typical overpriced San Francisco Restaurant that has some great choices and then some items that just don’t work. Our last visit exemplified this concept. We ordered the chicory salad with beets and pistachios. Yumm! It was a generous portion of food with exceptional flavors, the freshest ingredients and dressed perfectly. Plenty for the two of us and we love salads! Then came the grilled octopus with potatoes small plate. It was huge, potatoes were delicious and the octopus was a complete let down. Very salty, bland, slightly rubbery and lukewarm. While we ate it, it was just alright. Finally we shared (we shared everything) the smoked pork chop. It was completely overcooked. Dense and tough. With the exception of the grilled onions, veggies with it were non descriptive. We were rushing to a show, so we didn’t bother to complain. No time to do anything about it. Another issue was service, while our waitperson was good, he seemed overworked and somewhat bored with it all. This restaurant needs to stay on its game or Simeonne new will open nearby and they will be left for better service and nicer food! Right now they and the Morris have a monopoly on the area!

WE WILL NEVER GET OUR ONE HOUR, 25 MINUTES BACK!!!!

By Fortuna I |

I have never reviewed a restaurant that I never even had the chance to sample the food. Our party of five went for Sunday breakfast. That was mistake #1. We gave our name and contact info to the RUDEST, MOST ARROGANT MAN who truly believes he is doing us all a big favor by taking our names. This pompous man told us the wait was one hour. Mistake #2 was believing him. We periodically checked in with him over the course of the hour (maybe 3 times total) and we kept noticing that there was a table for 8 available for quite some time. When we asked why we couldn't have that table ESPECIALLY SINCE THERE WAS NO PARTY OF EIGHT, he basically said too bad!! At that point we walked out and went to another restaurant around the corner who actually appreciated our business without the snarky attitude!! No food, no matter how delicious, is worth the aggrevation. Seriously, avoid this place at all costs until they 1) fire the idiot who takes down names and 2) give a refresher course on how to treat customers!!

Grand in scope as well as price, still good but the Bay Area has evolved.

By Michael U |

Over a decade since the first, and only, visit to Tartine Bakery much has changed, Chefs Chad Robertson and Elisabeth Prueitt having since opened and closed a Restaurant while fame and finance led to the opening of Tartine Manufactory, a stunning production in terms of scope with prices to match. Technically part of The Mission, an August 2016 opening at 595 Alabama Street filling space next to a tile factory with limited parking, it was shortly after 9:00am that the Manufactory was approached on foot, the Restaurant at least half-full from carry-out to the main dining room decorated with suspended bubbles. Industrial-chic to match the name, exposed ceilings and chairs like one might find at a school lining a room with several machines to produce Tartine’s recipes in bulk, it was opting for seating that a young man approached with menus, $12 Porridge and $16 Toast aggressive even for San Francisco though apparently agreeable enough to guests that they recently added a Los Angeles location. Not surprised to see the tireless Robertson working, automatic feeding of an oven able to bake dozens of Loaves at a time both fascinating and equally worrisome for the future of Artisans everywhere, it was opting for bold Cold Brew to start that eight items were requested, the $8 Bread plate that arrived first mostly justified by stretchy Sourdough surrounded by a robust Crust plus ample amounts of locally-sourced Butter and silky Cinnamon Apples. Next brought $9 Yogurt with Granola, both made on-site and offered in a sharable portion that sees sweet and sour well-balanced, it was henceforth that Pastry took center-stage, the seasonal Banana Nut Muffin a bit dry compared to many but still well-flavored while Chocolate Marble Pound Cake fared much better thanks to plenty of bittersweet Cocoa swirled into the Batter. Unable to resist an iconic Morning Bun, the Croissant Dough spanning several pages of Tartine Cookbook Volume 1 presented tightly wound with plenty of Citrus, Butter and Granulated Sugar, it was surprisingly Robertson’s Pain au Chocolat that proved even better, the core still warm and layers of lamination shattering to the tooth before drifting down to table, lap and floor. Finishing with what best resembled Dessert, springy Broche nestling Custard and Raspberry Preserves quickly dispatched and a second Bun briefly debated, it was instead a slice of Tres Leches Cake that ended the morning, a lack of sogginess welcomed by those who typically consider the dish too “wet” though the traditional flavor remains intact with the sponge a dainty Chiffon and Pastry Cream lightly perfumed by Vanilla dividing the layers.

Sensation of bread

By Krassimir G |

"If you have extraordinary bread and extraordinary butter, it's hard to beat bread and butter." Jacques Pepin After visiting three times Tartine Bakery & Tartine Manufactury the last few months I can't hide my culinary excitement and joy of their presence. By sharing their approach on bread, Tartine's creators raise the customer from tasting to level of bread sensation. It is obvious their ambition to put the bread as equal between the delicacies. And believe me, they are succeeded. All people waiting in front of Tartine and their smiling faces are undisputed proof of it. All vegetable and meat creations from their menu are delicious, but at the same time they are and well-selected supplements that emphasize the bouquet of bread flavors and qualities. The bread in this brilliantly realized project is the main character, and my only desire is for a long...long time the Tartine Bakery to be among us.

Overpriced cuisine in a trendy space

By MeTwitty1Day |

We invited our best friend to Tartine Manufactory to thank him for taking care of our things and spend quality time with him. We enjoyed our meal at this trendy restaurant but, unfortunately, it is quite overpriced; hence, be prepare to spend a lot of money for the experience but know that there are plenty of restaurants and cafe out there in San Francisco and the rest of the world where you can savor fine dining and awesome ambiance for much less. We enjoyed the small plates (house-smoked trout was tasty and little gems rather refreshing), entrees (rigatoni with meat was tasty and rich but the two orders of wolfe ranch quail was quite bony) and desserts (tres leches cake was so-so, chocolate soufflé cake was sinfully delicious, and orange brioche morning bun sundae was fantastic). The cocktails were delicious but also overpriced. We found the receptionist quite nice and the wait-staff very informative and lovely. We were able to reserve our table in advance for this Thursday dinner. We will not return because we'd ather invest in other fine dining places that are more reasonably priced; for example, we can get a better foodie experience at the number one restaurant in Tallin, Estonia for 50 euro/person instead of paying $100/person for this Tartine Manufactory outing.

The better breakfast

By Hans P |

We have been here by coincidence while biking from the Mission to downtown Frisco. Excellent spot with industrial atmosphere. Great bread, of course, which is being produced on the spot. Take a look through the windosws how the staff is preparing the dough. Excellent small sized breakfast. The egg with salmon eggs was excellent. Not cheap but worth the quality. Extremely gentle staff. Surely different from all kind off middle of the road breakfast offers. To keep our memories alive we bought the Tartine book....

Great breakfast

By Janet B |

Went for breakfast. Large open space with natural wood and windows on all sides. Everything is home made and delicious. Attached to their bakery with aromas to whet your appetite. Yogurt and granola and breakfast sandwich were very good. Easy access for public transportation with a short walk. Parking is a little tight there.

Very tasty but you will pay

By mel260 |

The food was excellent but it was expensive. I highly recommend the bread and butter. Everything we ate was delicious! A foody would love this restaurant since it has a wide variety of tasty items to choose from. And have a cocktail- they were also excellent.

Exquisite meals or snacks on scrumptious breads and pastries

By DownhillSkier67 |

Tartine has two stores, fairly close to each other. Tartine Manufactory (at 595 Alabama St) is the more recent of the two. It is much the larger, more modern, and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner with wines (we had a light lunch, which was delicious). It can be very crowded with waits of up to 45 min. Many of the breads that you can buy for takeout are different from what is available at the other Tartine store and vice versa. Another unique feature of the Tartine Manufactory is that you can watch the bread making process and even talk to the bakers if you have questions about emulating their breads.

Sloooow service, Tasty breads, Very unusual foods, Terribly Overpriced

By PliniusCaecilius |

VERY slow service. Reserved for 6:00 to avoid the very long waits. Portions are small. Pricing: 3 slices of bread for $6; appetizers $10-$20; scallops $37; spaghetti $39, tagliatelli only $25; steak $85. (The bread is very tasty - the establishment started out as a bakery, and their other bakery is still a great place to get bread/pastry (IF one arrives as soon as it opens - the bakery is very popular). They have both "small plates" for appetizers and dinner entrees. The wine list is expensive and mediocre. Bring your own, but they charge $25 for corkage. If you like very spicy food, this may be the place for you. Very little on the menu was not highly spiced. There were items on the menu I had never heard of, and had to be explained by the waiter (e.g., "aleppo" (not a city in Syria). In summary, a lot of very unusual dishes, most highly spiced, very expensive for very small portions, some of them very tasty. A place for "foodies," rather than the average diner. Not too noisy at 6:00 pm - got noisier as the hour wore on. In very fine print at the bottom of the menu, it states that 5% will be added to all the charges - so consider that in deciding what tip to leave.

Busy, Friendly Lunch Cafe

Unique lunch menu and great selection of breads to purchase to take home. Grilled cheese sandwich was in my top 5 ever list.

Great Source for Great Bread and More

Excellent new venue for Tartine - - lots of seating, table service, and an interesting menu. In addition, there is a comfortable counter to order bread and pastries. Attentive wait staff. A big step up from the original location.

Restaurant in a bakery

By MILOUW |

This is a large and busy restaurant in an out of the way location. My meal started with an excellent crudo of halibut. Unfortunately the pork sandwich that followed was mediocre. Limited menu and wine list. Very noisy space making holding a conversation a challenge.

Typical SF so/so

By markmBigSur |

Good bread, six bucks, fair pasta, you could do better at home without breaking a sweat unless you're just flat out incompetent... tomahawk cut of pork, disgusting. All fat, really, 14 ounces of fat. The folks in the back of the house need to be sent to school... the manager in the front of the house took it off the bill and tried to blame the waitress for not explaining; explaining what ? its all fat ? The waitress's tip included the entire price of the entry... she was good... hopefully she'll find a job that's worthy of her service level and the cook and the manager get to back to school for food 101.

Great experience in a warm atmosphere

By Beatriz M |

It is a factory...so an industry atmosphere but very lively and full (waiting for sure at least 20 minutes, no reservations by phone, you put your name in the list as you arrive there). Food is great and from the season. Staff super nice! Be sure to tell them you want to take a loaf of bread home (it comes by waves, if you are not lucky you might miss it).

Disappointing & Terrible

By Styleguru |

I was so looking forward to having a good breakfast but it turned out to be a disappointing & terrible and overpriced meal, totally not worth a penny. For the price paid, service is also not worth mentioning. Host is very incompetent in allocating table, there are so many empty tables around , and yet I have to wait 20 mins to be seated. During my meal, I saw so many tables still unoccupied and yet people are waiting . Breakfast menu is very limited and you will definitely get a much fluffier omelette even in your own home. An egg sandwich and ham cost $21 before tax and tips. $50 for 2 miserable sandwich and a bitter coffee!!! Better spend the money elsewhere and time saved for queue. Breakfast at McDonald’s is definitely even better and satisfying!!

Best Pastries and Breakfast in SF

By Katie W |

I would HIGHLY recommend this to anyone who loves pastries and just simple delicious food. I have heard a lot of about Tartine and it certainly lives up to its reputation. The jabon and chocolate croissants were as good if not better than what I’ve had in Paris. And the salmon tartine was to die for. I am coming back the second I have a chance on my next trip to SF.

The "in" place

By bianca923 |

Had to try out Tartine, and the food is defenitely so good. But it's a super crowded place, long lines.....

I love the food but can no longer stand the seating problems

By MissPerpetualMotion |

I wrote a while back about my love of Tartine and mentioned the seating problems. Cut to two years later and it has gotten so bad that I have just about given up on returning there. For the past three or four times I have been I have had to go away because the wait was so long in spite of the fact of there being TONS and I mean tons of empty tables. The hostess is rude and incompetent. When I asked about all the empty tables she said the people had been texted and were coming. It was pouring rain and there was a line of wet bedraggled hungry people waiting but nope....we could not even sit down after 15 minutes waiting for the people who had given their names to arrive. I am sorry but in this case, you wait ten minutes for the people to arrive and if they do not come you give their table away. Where would these people be anyway in the pouring rain? either at Heath Ceramics next door or they too had given up and left. But hostess thought it was better idea to keep 2/3 of the place empty and 20 wet chilled people in line waiting. Sigh...... Sadly I will not come back because it is a recurring problem which instead of getting fixed is just getting worse.

Worth the walk

By LatteQueen |

My husband loves making bread so it was a walk to find this place. Lovely old building and loved the decor. There was a great buzz about the place and we were greeted warmly and given a table. Our server was so very friendly when we asked for recommendations she was happy to recommend and even told my son where to find some cool thrift shops! Bread was gorgeous, grilled cheese sandwich and warm grain salad was equally good

Perfect Brunch !

By JMFSS |

I had a wonderful Sunday brunch here! Very busy so reservation is recommended. The space - restaurant and bakery - is great: spacious, full of light, great interiors. Very interesting menu with quite a few original suggestions. Cocktails were very, very good. Fairly priced. You can visit Heath Ceramics after: a great West Coast classic just next door. Altogether a very good experience !

Very cool place situated in a working bakery!

By James Scott |

From the outside, the curb appeal is non-representative of what awaits you inside. It has an industrial-chic vibe and the high ceilings create a loud vibrant space. I always enjoy trying different cocktails and their list is over the top...even the ice cubes have an artistic flair to the space and size. The menu is different, unique and can be a bit confusing, but worth spending a few minutes with the server to explain everything. The Porridge bread was to die for...probably the best bread I’ve had! Service was a little slow, but we never felt rushed. Great place and worth the trip when in San Francisco.

Lovely dinner

By Marishechka |

We reserved a table for 4 on Friday night to celebrate a Birthday. The place was inviting and full of people. Our waitress was very nice ,friendly and offered to answer any questions regarding the menu right away. Fresh bread and butter which is baked at the restaurant was ordered and enjoyed along with Chicken liver pate which was exceptional . Little gems salad was on the large site and lettuce was crispy & fresh with pomegranate seeds & light dressing with Parmesan. I also tried a cup of beef bone stock with turmeric . It was hot and delicious . Something you want to have on the rainy night to warm you up.. We have decided to get a Rib eye steak with fingerling potatoes and steamed mushrooms . It’s quite a large dish ($64) and can serve 3-4 people. It’s a lot of food on the plate and it’s how it’s suppose to be for the price. My other family members also ordered the halibut Crudo and pasta dish. However, the wine list is extensive but very pricey ( average price for a bottle is $65-$70 !!!!! ) there is nothing under $50. It’s not so great considering we are in California and wine is produced literally around the corner. Well ,overall we enjoyed the food a lot and got a loaf of bread to take home. We will be back for more...

Tartinette with more space

By Helmut |

No, definitely not Tartine, simply because the selection is much smaller. Thus Tartinette. However, the more spacious space means also no ridiculous wait. So there is a clear tradeoff. Food was excellent and service friendly (yet somewhat clueless at times). Everything was delicious, I just wish there were all the options from the mother ship. Therefore, 4/5 points. If you want a quick fix and do not have time to stand in line forever, but need a Tartine fix, then come here.

Deserves its excellent reputation!

By wisewanderer60763 |

Wow! Great food. Bone marrow was a revelation. Brisket great. pate and pastries amazing and otherworldy bread and butter. The soup was a work of art and the service was some of my favorite in San francisco. Front entrance man was a gem as was the waiter. Great for a fancy meal or to just stop in to pick up pastries and bread.

YUM AS HECK

By patelanushna |

SO, I went here with my family on a Sunday in late December and the wait was absolutely insane. I think we waited for around an hour and a half before we were seated. Of course, this is in no sense the restaurant's fault; they're in high demand and we came in for Sunday brunch so what else could we have expected? As long as the wait was and even with the heavy flow of continuous people, we were seated at exactly when they said we would be and were served pretty much right away. The drinks AND food were amazing and well worth the wait. The menu is pricey if you're just looking for a normal brunch (you're in SF though so what were you expecting) but the food is AMAZING. It's unique and definitely satisfies the tastebuds. The seating is in a warehouse setting with huge open windows and an open floor, so there are a lot of people, but it never feels claustrophobic. Don't go waiting to be seated instantly and be ready to try some new combinations of food and pastries. I loved it and absolutely can't wait to go back.

Very good, but maybe a little more atmosphere than substance.

By Tamarcy |

The place is very popular and we were lucky to get seats at the bar. But, unusual for sitting at the bar, the service was slow to the point where we felt positively ignored. We were only two people, but one dish was brought out and after a looooooong wait, the second one (a sandwich!) was brought out. The food was a bit odd, lots of flavors thrown together in the name of innovation, but didn't leave you feeling happy. Well, the bread was good!

Lives up to reputation.

By foodie50Ny |

Ok, get a Morning Bun. It is worth every penny and is every bit as good as the raves it inspires. Busy place but they’ll call you on your cell when your table is ready so go next store to browse the lovely Heath Ceramics pottery while you wait. The cappuccino is disappointing so go with regular coffee...and take out a loaf of bread for a picnic delight!

Not what I expected, but I went for dinner.

By Diane C |

I was visiting from the northeast and heard this was the 3rd best bakery in the country. I suppose, to really experience the baked goods, I should have gone earlier in the day but my friend and I went for dinner. The night we visited, they had a visiting chef. On a scale of 1-10 I’d give the food a 7. The bread was sourdough, which isn’t my favorite so I wasn’t a huge fan. The desert was suppose to be a strawberry shortcake but the cake was more like a biscotti than cake. Because of the great ratings, I’d give Tartine Manufactury a try again earlier in the day but my first visit was not impressive.

Excellent bread

By Mom22ms |

Stopped in for a snack, my sister raves about Tartine and after having tried their bread I can completely understand why! I bought a loaf - excellent and wish we had arrived earlier in the day so we could see more of their baked goods! Hadn’t planned on bringing bread across the country home but wanted to share it with my family. Will definitely return.

Classy, Artistic & Professional

By Benjamin Y |

Five-star ratings require three things in my opinion, maybe four. Food must be exceptional. Service, warm and knowledgeable. Ambience and comfort. And preferably an excellent selection of beverages. The food is excellent. Excellent flavor matchings, artistically constructed. The kitchen operates at a very transparent and high level. Impressive. The service was professional. Not the best I have experienced, maybe a little bit edgy, but very knowledgeable, prompt and thorough. Fascinating set up for the restaurant. With a vibrant and bustling atmosphere. Open kitchen too, my favorite. Exciting drinks menu to complement the food, and the knowledge of the staff to assist with matching was adept also. It wasn't the perfect night out. But it was very nice. 4.5 stars. Not 5, but definitely better than 4.

Must go :)

By rafael_azzi |

Went there for dinner but it’s also a cool spot for brunch. Nice and airy atmosphere + great menu with delicious food. I had the cod which was perfectly cooked. The staff was very friendly as well. Worth to take a walk on the neighborhood afterwards. Right next door there’s an awesome ceramic shop called Heath.

Nothing to write home about - fair not fab

By JVtravels87 |

We got there on a Saturday around 10am and the wait was 40 minutes. Because the menu is the EXACT same on the bakery “grab-and-go” side, we decided to just order there and grab a first-come-first-serve table. The bakery line took about 20 minutes. When we finished brunch 30-45 minutes later, the line was out the door. So, I recommend that you get there early! The food was good... not great but good. I got the smoked salmon tartine and my friend got the Emmer Porridge. My tartine was fair. I ate it but wasn’t overly excited. My friend said the porridge needed sugar, and it felt like something was missing. We got a brownie to go and I was pleasantly surprised when I took a bite that afternoon! Next time I go to San Francisco, I plan to try Tartine Bakery (near Dolores Park) instead of Tartine Manufactory. It has better online reviews even though they have the same owners. All in all, it was good but nothing to write home about.

Extremely disappointing.

By kylacassidy |

Came for a late dinner around 8:30 pm in early July and was extremely disappointed. Our server was slow and inattentive. Food was mediocre. The ricotta salad with fresh stone fruit was delicious, but the rest of our meal was underwhelming for a restaurant with such good reviews. The ribs were dry, the bread was average, the duck was nicely cooked but not exciting. Two friends who live in San Fran highly recommended this restaurant saying it was worth the hype. I could not disagree more. Save your money- there are better places to go.

Heavenly bakery and bistro

By Acidov |

This place is as good as its ratings. Spacious, fancy spot that, similarly to its sister place at Guerrero St, specializes in baked goods, pastries, desserts and more. Place is beautiful (kind of old warehouse) and has plenty of seating for any size group. The bread has always great crust and is chewy inside. It perfectly matched with delicious chicken liver pate. Fresh ricotta tartine with ripe and sweet tomatoes created amazingly good combination of taste. Basically, any dish containing bread is great here thanks to the authentic bread recipes they use and high quality ingredients. Simple menu, which caters for all tastes and signifies deep understanding of cooking process. Perfect spot for brunch or lunch. Prices are high, maybe even too high, but understandable considering the reliable high quality of food and service.

Very Trendy

By Cathy W |

Interesting menu. Best to be a foodie and adventurous if you dine here. Every dish has multitudes of ingredients you have to google to identify. Not a relaxing experience in my opinion. The bread is good on the inside but so tough on the crust it will hurt your teeth. No regular cocktails or liquors, beers or sodas. Meals are good but seems to me that the chef is trying way too hard.

Excellent lunch and incredible bakery

By George R |

This place is amazing. We had a peach and corn salad and a Caesar that were both fresh and tasty. All ingredients right from the market. The porcetta sandwich was a pork belly lovers dream. Parking sucks in the area around lunch time and the line a the order counter can be long since reservations are only for dinner.

Worst. Service . Ever.

By aholmes92 |

SO disappointed with the service at this place. It was an actual joke. The food was great. But prepare to sit and wait for roughly 40 minutes before someone offers you water.

Nothing special

By Larsmadsen |

Tartine is known for their great pastries and they have that at Tartine Manufactory but their breakfast menu is nothing special and fairly expensive. Parking in the area is a nightmare on a weekday.

Unfriendly and it’s just about the money

By KristinMiles |

Every time we visit SF we have to visit Tartine. We have their books, we love the pastries. So far the visits have been nice but this time it was just bad. We arrived at the location shortly before 8am Saturday morning, so we waited in the line as the others too. Suddenly the door was opened and a woman came out and yelled at everyone there to go inside the shop is open. Everyone there was just looking at each other cause no one understood why she was so rude. While I waited in line to order the rest of the family sat down, when it was my turn to order there was no smile, no hello nothing. That a cashier is mad at the end of the day cause there had been too many unfriendly customers ok, but not like 5min after the shop has opened in the morning. Anyway I ordered and dared to ask about he price for the bread bags which I’d eyed on the shelf. 44$ and smth similar for one cotton bag where you can store a loaf of bread in it. Since they didn’t have any gold embroideries I skipped those and rather paid 60$ for the breakfast. The coffee and food was good, but the service was just so bad. Oh and in the end we were kind of rushed out.. it’s not anymore the same atmosphere. It’s about making as much money as possible cause the name sells..

Simply wonderful!

By Sockster |

Our second visit and second outstanding visit to this fabulous restaurant. Craft drinks are great. Food and of course the bread are fabulous! Manager and somm Vinnie and his team took brilliant care of us. Highly recommended! Can’t wait to come back to SF to visit again!!

Great Meal

By Pablo V |

Great food, service and a lovely setup. What else could you ask for. Definitely worth a visit. The bread is just incredible.

Matcha Latte not!

By Ro L |

My 2nd time having breakfast here with the family. Been to the Guerrero once. Both experience were identical. My recent visit to this particular store was ok. As usual, snobbish patrons and service was ok. No one really smiles by the cashier and the place feels so pretentious! As if we’re at the highest Michelin starred restaurant. Puh leeze!!! Menu is simple as well as the food. It’s not bad to say the least, but a bit expensive. The menu now offers matcha latte but it doesn’t taste like one. Diluted and can barely taste the matcha. Skip it for $8 when you can actually get a better one at Starbucks for 50% off.

A Quintessential San Francisco Experience

By atcpeter |

Overpriced, Delicious and Aloof. San Francisco is getting good at this sort of dining experience. Come for the food, spend a lot of money, and don't expect anything remotely related to value or service. Tartine is a San Francisco institution, and the bakery chain (there are locations in LA and Seoul now, too) still makes incredible loaves of sourdough. The price has gone up 20% in the last two years alone. Thanks to their cookbooks, you can make a reasonable approximation at home for a fraction of the cost. The lunch menu on our recent visit included a vegan grain bowl ($18) and a local salmon crudo ($19). The crudo doesn't come with any toast/bread, though. If you want some, it's an extra $6.50 for a single slice with butter. An entire loaf is $11.50, if you're wondering what constitutes a gouge at Tartine. Our server was completely indifferent and genuinely surprised that I was surprised the crudo didn't come with bread. I went for the turkey sandwich with "debris aioli," which I assume is an eye-winking reference to San Francisco's twin affordability and homelessness crises. The $18 sandwich had clearly been made hours earlier, and the bottom slice of ciabatta was soggy. If you really want the Tartine experience, get a loaf to go, maybe a croissant, and skip the dining room altogether. Your wallet and soul will thank you.

an impeccable experience

By re75travels |

From ordering at the counter to finding a place to sit in the spacious restaurant to watching bakers at work kneading bread, eating at Tartine Manufactory blends a casual environment with delicious food. My only warning to those coming here is not to come starving, because you may end up waiting for a bit. Overall, it's a fabulous experience nonetheless!

Excellent!

By Kara D |

Delicious brunch for the entire family. Not inexpensive but worth it. Be sure to grab a loaf of bread to take home.

Amazing gem of a bakery in the Mission!!!!

By ranishi |

Stopped by to get some bake goods for a picnic. Minimal wait time for a Saturday afternoon. The staff were very friendly and helpful. All the breads and baked goods were fresh and delicious. Inside there is dining area for the restaurant as well as the bakery side. The breads are simply amazingly fresh and delicious. Don't miss this bakery or the origninal Tartine.

WOW!

Anything you order will be masterfully cooked or baked or simply combined together. Atmosphere is great although a little loud at times, very worth trying out. Warmly recommend to all ages!

Home of Great Bread

By WoofleDust |

My wife and I went here after visiting the original Tartine. A couple of years ago the bread bug hit me, and since then I have been maintaining a starter and baking at home. We entered the building through the central section (not the front door of the restaurant), and that brought us alongside the room where a few employees were busy at the butcher block bench making that day's product. I stood for a full hour enjoying the opportunity to watch skilled bakers. Eventually we went into the main area and had lunch, which of course included a hunk of the Basic Country bread. The crust and crumb were incredible, and I managed not to gobble the bread and instead savored it by the bite. If you are a home bread baker, go here. If you are not, go here anyway.

Another Disappointment!

By Ro L |

I took my kids here more than six months ago and it wasn’t as I expected. My current visit was not as good just like the last one. Came in on a Saturday morning and it was pretty crowded. My daughter ordered the Tartine bread with apples, cranberries and Philadelphia cheese on top while I ordered the porchetta. Neither one was good. The apple cranberry bread was as hard as a rock. The cranberries were sugar-coated so it was so sweet and the apples were bad. It cost $16. It looks so pretty but didn’t live up to the hype! My porchetta costs the same and it was just thick bacon (that’s porchetta) with tiny egg and few arugula. Taste wise, worst porchetta I’ve ever had! My daughter ordered their expensive matcha latte. It wasn’t good like the last time. The place is still so pretentious. We only came back bec it’s near my daughter’s place

Magnificent eatery outside tourist area

By ADean19 |

Dinner was different and very tasty. Wine choice good and plenty to choose by the glass and not too expensive. The red wine we chose arrived far too cold though! We had dietary needs and they still managed to serve a main course that had not been totally described, as the chicken dish came with a yoghurt sauce- no good for our dairy free diet. Lesson, check carefully and make sure waiter understands. That apart, the food is very imaginative and there is ample choice. The surroundings are vibrant, noisy and customers young. Some preferred to eat around the bar rather than at tables. Good idea to book. The cooking takes place at the far end. Bread dough is being proved around the place. We were offered bread with the chicken liver starter, but is charged for (though really good). There is clearly an emphasis on really fresh ingredients and plenty of herbs Dessert course choice is no good for the dairy free, as usual. Unless you want sorbet- again. Decaf espresso really good. Red wine at room temperature please! Location on Alabama street is far from public transport so take a cab. But do give this fabulous restaurant a try

Best breakfast

By Caroline |

Easily one of the best breakfasts I have ever had...would highly recommend the salmon tartine. We are already thinking about coming back again before we leave San Fran!

Amazing Place!

By renakashmere |

Loved the ambiance, the food, the wine, the fresh bread smell, the service and sat mesmerized by the baker making fresh bread. Even though it's a bakery, the bread is not free and even when you do order it, it's not enough. The most stand-out amazing dish was the bone marrow, however it came with two very small pieces of bread. You can also buy loaves of fresh bread to go. Tip: Make a reservation in advance!

Amazing food!

By BigHair44 |

Amazing breakfast with stunning pastries and porridge! Watch it all being made while you eat. Fantastic place to eat, would have liked more time to visit the other area's of the manufactory! Will definitely visit again when in San Fran!

Love the bread, excellent starters, limited mains, and pricey wines

By Andreas G |

I am a huge fan of Tartine’s breads, and greatly appreciate Chad Robertson’s efforts to enable a home cook/baker to make breads in the style of Tartine at home. I have been using his books as a guide for several years now. When the opportunity came to visit Tartine Manufactory for dinner, and have some of the bread with it, I was onboard. Four of us went for an early Saturday dinner. We greatly enjoyed all of the starters that we tried. We selected two from the Tartine Bread Service section of the menu, the warm bread and cultured butter, and chicken liver toast. We also ordered two items from the Welcomes section, a grilled octopus with potatoes, and beef tartare. All four of these dishes were excellent, and we ordered a second round of the bread. Although it is possible to bake at home and get a dark and crunchy crust, they hydrate their doughs more than I do, and this leads to a delectably moister crumb. I will have to see how sticky a dough I am willing to work with in the future. For the mains, two diners ended up sharing the roasted half chicken, and it was an ample serving (as it should be for $33). My wife selected the durum bucatini. I decided that it is not often that one gets an opportunity to try a 21-day dry-aged wood-roasted prime rib. In short, we ended up being less enthused about the Land and Sea options. My wife thought the bucatini was good, but not exceptional. The chicken came with rice, flatbread, a green sauce and mayonnaise. I didn’t get a chance to taste it, but there were no indications of it being an over-the-top delicious preparation. I thoroughly enjoyed the prime rib and shared bites with others. It was tender and flavorful. The accompanying potatoes were not as successful. Michael Chiarello used to serve a potato dish at Tra Vigne in St. Helena where small potatoes are boiled with the skin on, then lightly crushed to break upon the potato, deep-fried, and then topped with microplaned lemon zest. That is a spectacular potato dish. Zuni Café boils potatoes most of the way to doneness, coats them in olive oil and fresh rosemary, and then bakes them. That is a spectacular potato dish. The potatoes at Tartine looked to be Russian banana fingerlings, a very nice potato, but they just weren’t fried enough, and were still quite firm in the center. I think they could do better. I was put in charge of ordering wine for the table, and I would guess that the average price of wine is over $70/bottle. I remember a French Malbec for just under $50, but many were in the high $60s, and it went up from there. I found only one Zinfandel option, which was a little disappointing for a California restaurant. I did not ask what their corkage is, but you may find it advisable to review their wine list in advance and see whether you might prefer bringing a bottle to the restaurant. Service was excellent. Food arrived in a timely manner. As I said, we enjoyed the starters more than the main courses, and noted that at several of the tables near us, the meal was a selection of starters. Perhaps we are not the only ones who prefer the starters. You can order a loaf of bread to take home, and that is a bonus. All in all, a good place, and if I were in the neighborhood and hungry, or stuck in traffic and grumpy, I might stop by for bread and starters. It is less likely that I would drive from Berkeley to have dinner there.

Amazing dinner!

By sandranazzal |

Dinner was exceptional! We had a variety of appetizers which were all fresh, tasty and beautifully prepared. We had reservations for dinner. It’s my understanding that reservations are not accepted for breakfast or lunch. I’m not a waiting in line kind of person. Side note—The restaurant itself is a bit out of the way, ipretty basic looking and the tables are a bit close together. For the price, I would prefer more space but it seems that you get what you get in San Francisco these days.....

Great lunch

By Ruth G |

Wonderful baked goods, great wine list. Had an amazing tartine and salad. Super busy place but the wait list moved quickly.

Hoped for a little better

By Laura L |

Think they are still getting their staff trained etc here! Told three different things by three different wait staff re their takeaway offering. Food good as you would expect but for us didn’t have the same delicious magic as the original tartine!

with a little more effort this would be amazing

By Tulio V |

Loved the food, everything was carefully thought out, fresh, and tasteful. The design/architecture is modern industrial and beautiful. Unfortunately, for a place that is tops in so many ways, it is disorganized in the way it serves its clients. We arrived in the late afternoon and the place was soon to go into dinner mode. This meant that no one knew where/how to order, where to sit, where the food or the wine would come out of. With a little more organizational effort, the place could be spectacular.

A Great Restaurant and Fantastic Bakery

By Thomas R |

Very interesting, unusual menus and great food for lunch and dinner. Don't resist buying a loaf or two of their wonderful bread for meals at home. Parking is hard and this place is getting more popular by the minute. Nevertheless, it is worth the effort.

Worth the trip

By Medve99 |

Visiting Tartine was my only must do on this trip to SF. The bread is as good as reputed. We sampled an olive fougasse while we waited for a table. The bread has a great flavor from the retarding and it’s baked to the European standard of bien cuit, dark and crunchy. A small quibble is that the olives were bunched up probably because of an incomplete mix. The four of us ordered a wide sampling of the menu. Our favorites were the mushroom tartine. The smoked trout on danish rye was great and I really liked the grilled cheese. Overall, the great bread is used as the base for many dishes that are fairly straightforward. A few ingredients, fresh product, and good preparation. Not everything hit the mark. The apple tartine was overly sweet and the savory products were better. We had a pleasant server, and the counter help was cheerful and into their products. My only regent is that I do not live in SF.

Excellent place for Sunday brunch!

By AnneTravellingBrit |

This was a great spot that was recommended by our son who we were meeting for brunch. We were able to find free street parking in the neighborhood and it was just a short walk to this place. There was a line but it did not take long for the four of us to get seated. We sat down with the menu to order then paid at the cash register. Our latte & coffees were good, the fresh bread and butter was excellent and so was the lemon cake. We also ordered breakfast sandwiches and they tasted very good and fresh. The ambiance is modern and open with huge windows that let's in a lot of light. The prices were moderate and the staff were very pleasant.

A Brunch Must!!

By tem4j |

It is a MUST to come here while in SF. I loved it so much I made sure to visit again before my trip ended. They have done very well with keeping things safe with COVID reopenings. Definitely recommend their almond croissant, best I have ever had!

Worth it for the bread alone!

By TibetTrader |

Very well worth a visit - the food is extremely well flavoured, every dish is individual and flavoursome. Staff are professional in their v busy restaurant. The bread is OUTSTANDING!

Delicious Meal in an Industrial Setting

By MarsPhD |

My husband loves bone marrow and porchetta. Because of this and because I always enjoyed Tartine, we decided to celebrate my daughter's graduation here. The bone marrow was exquisite (and deadly) and the porchetta sandwich was sumptuous. My favorite dishes, however, were the halibut ceviche and octopus. My family and I look forward to having brunch here on of these days. I loved the industrial setting and spare decor, especially the white balls of light above us. Parking was easy in this location (as compared to parking in its previous restaurant in the Mission district).

Great for breakfast.

By Peter K |

Delicious pastries and breakfast sandwiches. Semi self serve(place your order at the cash/front and find a table, food delivered to you, service was a bit robotic) a bit on the pricey side, but the quality is excellent and you get a refile on your coffee. It was so close to my Airbnb I went 3 times, twice for breakfast and once for drinks at the bar. Beautiful space and fun to watch the baker make bread right in front of you. Highly recommend

Willie Wonka's Playhouse for Food Lovers

Tartine, we love you. How nice that now you have this big playground for us...lovers of your bread, food, aesthetic. The lines at your original bakery are ok...but to come here and sit...even reserve ahead...at the bar or a table or a booth is just the best. Note: we have had quite a few grouchy waitresses some mornings at breakfast..but it's overlooked when the morning bun arrives!! Worth a trip to San Fran!! Spread the love around Tartine.

Disappointment

By m c |

I’m a foodie and I hunt down the best places to eat before I visit any city. I’ve been to San Francisco many times and I was really looking forward to eating here. They started as a bakery, which is very well known. To start, we were seated right away. Waiter was good at helping us make selections. The menu is confusing. To start we ordered the bread and butter $5, really? My husband ordered the kolabri pickled salad which was good but not exciting. Also the grilled chicken which came on a cold minty grain salad. Chicken was very good but the plate smothered with too much salad. I ordered the mixed mushroom toast, which was excellent but really a meal in itself. Then I had the butter beans with pea tenderlals and a soft boiled egg. What a disappointment. Beans, no flavor, like they were poured out of a can, pea greens where to woody in the stem to chew and the egg was stoned cold. I never send things back, as I honestly try to appreciate the creativity and composition of the dish. Didn’t happen. The waiter compted us the sundae desert, which was enjoyable after the disappointing beans entree. Not to forget, decent wine pour. As a new restaurant on the scene, they really need to tweak the details.

Burratta, dinner and coffee

By drmader |

We had a wonderful assortment of bites..fava bean , yummy bread, buratta w citrus, steak, potatoe and mushroom, many delicious plates of wonderful food. Large party so the servers really had to work time things. They were wonderful. The atmosphere feels industrial w a factory feel From bread and coffee roasting equipment .The finish was their coffee and a flourless chocolate dessert and an ice cream pie w a ginger crust . Divine . Thank you for a lovely evening and meal. Everyone enjoyed

Super cool place

By Lynne O |

We loved Tartine! We had managed to get a table for New Years which was awesome. The location and layout of the restaurant is great. It was crowded as you would expect but wasn’t noisy. Our waiter was super friendly and helpful, in fact all staff were. We had the rigatoni, black cod (done to perfection) and the crab rice. All were delicious. One of our favorite dinners of our whole trip. Would love to come back for brunch one day.

Chill weekday breakfast, if your schedule permits

By JenTravels808 |

Tartine Manufactory hits all the things I want: top-notch food quality, deliciousness, presentation, service, and ambience. It's pricey, but it's worth it. I love this space, which is re-purposed warehouse/factory space that has soaring ceilings, and a slight industrial feel (again, which I love!). It's full of natural light, even on an overcast morning. Mid-week, it was full of single diners or business people dropping by before leaving town. There are no artificial sweeteners for the coffee drinks, FYI. The coffee is very good, not sure who the roasters are. The ceramic mugs are gorgeous, I think they are made next door at the ceramic factory. The bread-making is the focal point of the room, and to get to the restrooms, walking by the bread-proofing and baking areas and watching the process through the giant windows is a treat! Of course the bread is fantastic. I ordered the salmon tartine, and it was generous with salmon, served with pickled onions, Meyer lemon rind half-moons, fresh dill, and black pepper. It was perfect for me because there wasn't a caper in sight! And the croissants are shatter-crisp on the outside and full of buttery goodness. They start at $5 each, a little more for chocolate, ham & cheese or frangipane (almond). All worth every penny. The music is chill, and at 8 am the staff isn't trying to hustle you out. A very high-end breakfast experience, which I totally loved. I still love my working-class diner breakfast experiences, but this was an elevated diner breakfast, if that's your thing. It's very much my thing.

Great Bread, good food, horribly slow and rude server

By SanFranciscoHal |

Fourth time here, and almost worth the visitor the bread and eggplant dip The hostess who seated us was cold and unwelcoming, and our waiter was even worse We love this place, but someone needs to educate the waitstaff Service was unbelievably slow and uneven

Worth the wait!

3 words- Dungeness crabcake sandwich! You will be filled with happiness in your belly! Also ordered the squash soup and it was lovely. Beer and wine served with a smile from our excellent server and the carrotcake cupcake was the cherry on top of a great experience.

Great food and fun

By Alice S |

There is a lot of great places in SF. Here is another one to add to your list of "must dos". The space is modern/industrial chic; so you must have an appreciation for that motif. The food and wine selections were amazing and they definitely have a knack for it. The food was outstanding because of the large portions we shared the plates with our friends which had the benefit of savoring more than just one entree. All was delicious from the calamari to the chicken and pork ribs. The food was simply amazing. Yes, i would put the dishes we in the same elite category as T. Keller. Yes, it was that good!!!! The other great aspect of the dining affair was the hospitality. Graham and Alex were a delite and engaged in some great banter over the wine selections, food and vermouths. The other staff members were also engaging and made the evening quite memorable. Great food, fun along with great dialog over the wine and vermouth list makesTartine's a "must do". Kudos to Graham for his wine knowledge and insights as well as Alex on the vermouths.

Can't wait to go back!

The food was amazing. Tartine always makes amazing bread but the food was even better. We had 2 of the spreads chicken liver and white bean dip. One of the best dishes was the halibut crudo. Beautifully plated and yummy. We also had the pork ribs with pumpkin seed salsa and yogurt . I would have these again, they were cooked to perfection and there was a garnishment of pickled rhubarb that went really well. There was no room for dessert, and drinks were very good.

Bakery Brunch Bar Beutiful space

By KJSTX |

Brunch at Tartine Manufactuary We walked into this lovely spacious area with baked bread literally steaming right in front of us on the shelves. Fresh is best and all the food is beautifully fabulous Presented on white plates we had a smoked salmon tartine a breakfast egg sandwich a delghutful almond croissant and bread with pastry to go. Delightfully tasty with a cortado and black coffee this was a sumptuous meal to start a lovely day in San Francisco. Worth the visit and full of value.

Afternoon sweets

By Caminante1234 |

If you can not get a reservation to this place for lunch or dinner, you can always try some desserts. You will find unexpected combinations like a bed of peanut butter with raspberry ice cream in a graham bowl (this can be shared with the whole family), the lemon ice cream will transport you to the Caribbean and if you are a chocolate lover they have a chocolate mousse cake that will not disappoint. But don’t forget to buy bread, warm and fresh, just out of the oven! This was the best during our last visit.

Best Breakfast I Had in San Francisco!

By Lisa E |

We were sent here after we learned the first restaurant we wanted was closed. What an unexpected surprise! The French Toast was absolutely amazing! All four of us enjoyed our breakfasts.

Sour Dough at it's BEST

By Brian W |

A trip to San Francisco should include a visit to this "sour dough mecca". Situated in the "Mission" district it's a bit out of the way but well worth the tasty, chewy, crusty yet light and wonderful bread especially when paired their "potatoe leek" soup. Might I add the "lemon" and "millionaires" tarts were also very delicious !

Really nice

By António VB |

I went there for dinner with friends and really enjoyed the food. The bread is amazing as expected. Service was very good.

Fantastic Food, great service

By ErstazMatt |

What a lovely place. We ordered too much of course, but with burnt ends marrow and our server almost insisting on the chicken liver pate (glad he did!) it was hard not to try just a bit more than we really needed. This bakery-cafe-bar building has high ceilings, it was a little cold but that didn't distract from the great food. Service was excellent with helpful, honest waiting staff. Meals were well weighted, as was the timings. The place was almost full but not crowded. It was great to see the kitchen and bakery in full sight. Would definitely go again, even just for those burnt ends!

Just drinks and bread

By Scott J |

Came in with friends and hadn't looked at the menu beforehand. I'm sure the food is great, if you actually can pronounce and understand what the ingredients were. So we opted for their bread and drinks and it was very yummy. The service was very good and we enjoyed the atmosphere. Very cool area.

Big Disappointment on Return Visit

By Phyl K |

Was excited to return for the dynamite chicken, gem salad, tartines and vegetable options but this time found a more reduced menu — and a skimpy, seemingly less than half a chicken ($34 or 36) that was pretty generic. Mushroom Tartine was phenomenal, though, as was the gem salad.

Not Really Worth the Effort

By albertasn0wbird |

My companion drove around for 15 minutes to find a place to park for this restaurant and only persisted because I was already waiting at a table. The bread is delicious but you must pay extra to get some to dip your hummus into. And then, sadly the hummus is rather blah. And so was the avocado smorrebrod. Too much avocado, too little flavour, too little bread. Kind of makes me think that for a bakery, they are a little chintzy with their bread, unless you pay extra. The grilled cheese was not as good as what we make at home, again, somewhat bland. The only really flavourful dish was the chick pea and potato soup. I ordered a Mango Swizzle which was also very tasty but was almost all ice. The room reverberates with too loud music competing with voices competing with the music. Disappointing in so many ways.

Wow, Wow, WOW

By Rico Az |

Walking into Tartine Manufactory one can't help but to know that the culinary experience that is about to take place is going to be spectacular. Within minutes of the doors opening, almost every table was filled...hint: Make a reservation. As each table was serviced, the menus diversity and great flavors are on full display and making a decision just got harder. We opted to follow the family style plan of ordering several great items and sharing. The breads are fresh and flavorful, the Burrata was simple and tasty, the freshness of the salad ingredients made each bite enjoyable, the bone marrow appetizer stimulated taste buds to new energies and Rockfish-Clams-Cannelini bean seafood melody made dipping a new Olympic sport. A lovely wine list will make your table experience a journey of pleasure and great memories.

The cocktails are to die for and the food is equally good

By Flavia Stoian |

This is by far in my top three places where I like to eat in San Francisco. The menu one-page menu is low-key sophisticated, and the food is incredibly good and fresh. The cocktails are so so so good, yum - especially if you're into fruity drinks. Bread is awesome, if you want to take to go, also I recommend the coffee beans. It can get very crowded during lunch but after you've put your name on the list, go check the store in the back where they have cute supplies, bags, and even a home decoration section.

Great place, bad day

By gal7onthego |

I came the Friday morning of Memorial Day weekend. I wasn't sure what to expect wait-wise since it was the beginning of a holiday. There was about a 10 minute wait before the host was able to greet me. Fortunately, i was able to snag a seat at the bar so there wasn't much of a wait after that. The bartender was quite friendly and took my drink order immediately. Unfortunately, the barista was backed up and it took a long bit before my coffee appeared. The bread pudding was also sold out, but the bartender recommended the pain au chocolat since that's what the bread pudding is made from. It did not disappoint. Buttery, flaky and just enough chocolate. an exceptional pastry. i understood what the hype was about. I also has the steak tartare tartine which was pretty incredible as well. The meat was minced so unbelievably tiny and perfect, it was practically a work of art. The bread again highlighted what's so great about the restaurant. Unfortunately, it was a bad day service wise and the bartender offered many apologies for delays. The space is airy and industrial. You can get some treats to go if they're still available in the bakery. I'll cut them some slack for the off the day because the food was quite good and the staff was friendly and accommodating.

Great Breakfast & Enviroment

By Tom C |

Our last meal in San Francisco & you know what they say about saving the best until last. The whole experience here is great the getting out to it, the exterior, the modern minimalist interior with freshly baked bread everywhere surrounded by huge pieces of wood. We sat by the window in a corner allowing me to survey the place which i loved. The staff were knowledgeable more than polite and made great recommendations when asked. Starting with the morning bun, you are instantly hit with the cinnamon flavour then a lovely undertone of orange zest. The top was amazingly sugary and soft in the middle. Perfect bun. It may sound simple but I had to do the bread and apple butter, my first taste of the iconic SF sourdough bread didn't disappoint it's yeasty taste, crisp exterior and soft interior all created the unique flavour you expect. The apple jam is thick with the tart kick you get from an apple pie filling and when layered on with butter makes a lovely bite. Lastly the coddled eggs - the bread is so so crisp and the zaatar gives a fantastic complexity of flavour the coddled eggs cooked perfectly and the subtle taste paired with the spicy bread like you wouldn't expect. The trout roe added texture but all together it was a bite worth savoring. 10/10 for the dishes, decor just everything even the walk to the bathrooms. Trust me just go even if you don't need to. The weaving and wondering through corridors of bread and bakers working is well worth stretching your legs.

Bread Heaven

By IMShmupi |

Went up just to visit this great baker angle that when you enter you can smell the sourdough at its best. Though I had little time to spent I did eat an amazing sandwich, great coffee and took with me a very tasty sourdough loaf of bread home which the family ate within a day. Fabulous place. Hope to have more of those around the world.

So Good

By Ranchwed |

I came here in May and then when my mom and I were in Pacifica, I told her we needed to go eat here. We arrived after 11am, so I was bummed we didn't get breakfast. She had the mushroom dish, and the waiter recommended it. It was so earthy and good, but at the same time very rich and no shortage of mushrooms. They put every kind there is in it. I was so surprised and couldn't stop talking about that. I had the grill cheese with the squash. Great pick. And of course when you leave, you have to get a HUGE loaf of sourdough for home. Do not worry, if it goes stale. I always make fresh croutons for salad with it. Just put olive oil in the pan, chopped squares of bread and some garlic parsley seasoning. Fry it up. Toss on salad!

Relaxed and low key, great food

By Tiny_Bubbles007 |

Wonderful spin off of the original Tartine. This Restaurant and bakery are an outstanding combo of bakery and comfort food. Low-key appetizers and meals are perfect for sharing at the table. The entrées are pretty large and easily shared. We had the chicken and it was absolutely delicious. Definitely get the avocado toast toast but order two portions. It only comes as a single piece of toast with avocado… That's a miss all the restaurants part. The asparagus with egg is delicious. This ceviche is fresh and refreshing. Street parking only. Will definitely go back for bread and baked goods as their exceptional. The Danish Rye is worth getting a loaf to take home.

Family with kids

By sunjoe075 |

We went there on a Sunday evening. A family member highly recommended the place. There are no other restaurants nearby. We walked around a bit. Our reservation is 5:30. Plenty of parking along the streets. All the appetizers were great. - the bone marrow, the salad, the liver, grilled tomato etc. The bread is famous and deservingly so. For main dish we table shared the spaghetti with clams - I thought the pasta was a bit under cooked, the 18 oz steak at $85 is a bit over priced but nicely presented. The chicken dish is very good. The server was exceptional. Very attentive without being over bearing.

Breads to die for!

By TJJapan |

This is not a place to go if you are gluten free! You could order just the bread and butter repeatedly and leave a happy person. We had an entire meal but the breads are what I will never forget!

Be Prepared for a Long Wait

By Cincin2100 |

We were told the wait would be one hour. After waiting an hour we were very hungry and almost ready to leave but then they told us our table was empty and they just needed to set it. Fifteen minutes later they set the table and let us sit down. They took our order and we were served promptly. The grilled cheese sandwich I had was probably one of the best I have ever had. Of course they make their own bread and it was grilled to perfection. The portions are very generous.

unique dishes--it's a little too "precious" for me

By robbi25 |

The service was simply okay--which was not okay considering the prices. The wine choices by the glass were barely drinkable--and we, as a group, sampled them. The food was different and tasty. Not worth the trip.

Bread heaven

By Karen & Rob Chiasson |

I bought Chad's cookbook a few years ago and successfully made his sourdough bread. It was a thrill to visit his newest location and enjoy his bread. Great selections with a coffee bar and a beverage bar. Hot porridge with pecans and roasted peaches was delicious. A ways out of town but great way to get some exercise!

Heavenly Baked Goods

By Brian W |

I was here for breakfast with my daughter. The restaurant is in a mixed use neighborhood and it has a bit of an industrial vibe. There is a bit of a confusing mix of self service and table service and lots of people waiting in line. I had the breakfast sandwich with sausage and it couldn't have been any more delicious. A pillowy soft bun with perfectly cooked scrambled eggs and juicy and rich sausage, absolute heaven! Great coffee and prompt service, a great place to try and I want to go back soon

Yum!

By LucyDoll |

Only did a take-out here but would have been nice to eat in - busy though! The coffee was good, bread gorgeous, croissants to die for, brownies lovely. Definitely try for breakfast or lunch. Its not cheap though, but quality makes up for it.

Unique and delicious!

By CarlosTeacher |

We went for a late weekend lunch and got seated immediately. Our server had perfect timing, and was warm and genuine. We tried four dishes, and all were yum.

Great Flat White & Baked Goods

By Hal J |

This Tartine just down the hill & West from Potrero Hill deserves it's praise and crowds. We stopped by for takeaway coffee and a pastry and enjoyed a walkabout wander in the neighborhood. What a pleasant way to decompress upon arrival after a 12 hour flight from NZ.

Worth the 50 minute wait

By Sunnisips |

Tartine was pure bakery brilliance from the thoughtful provisions to the quintessential san francisco airy warehouse venue. Don't eat anything before going so your eyes do the ordering. We walked 3 miles to get there so we added our name to the waitlist and stood in line at the bakery for a snack. We basically ordered one of everything and sat on the curb tasting each pastry in a state of bliss. The morning bun was a religious experience as was the coffee cake and muffin. Finally our reservation was called, so stuffed, we ordered with the thought of boxing it up after tasting. Well, the tartine was so lovely as was the salmon. We ate it all and then wobbled home. The iced tea was a bit heavy but very interesting. I laugh while writing this as the heaviness, I attributed to the iced tea. That might be easily contested by my previous statements.

Excellent food combinations

By Midge K |

Try this restaurant for breakfast lunch or dinner. We had Sunday night dinner and were enormously satisfied. The bread is by far and away the best choice which can also be purchased at the restaurant. Small plates and dinner options were creatively combined with sauces and garnish, all of which were tantalizing to the taste buds. I would go back in a heartbeat.

Good good bread

By GailAndTheSnail |

I visited Tartine for the bread and the bread was delicious. My friends and I tried the Country (sourdough) and Sprouted Rye and enjoyed both. We also shared two of their open faced sandwiches. Everything was fresh and delicious. Wait was minimal for the 5 of us on a Saturday at 4pm. At this time of day, they had run out of a few of their breads, but that is to be expected. Beautiful space, great service and overall a good experience. Be sure to walk around the warehouse afterwards to see some awesome machinery and artisan goods.

Great space, good food, and fun to watch the bread baking in action

By jkgmoss |

I've only ever eaten breakfast here, but I'll come back every time I'm in San Francisco if I can. It's a really neat space, the smell of bread baking is wonderful and they have a great breakfast menu. And Heath Ceramics is right next door, which is fun to look around after you eat!

Good food, very arrogant attitude

By marrei |

The food i for sure good, but the arrogant attitude of the whole staff, starting from the hostess, overweight and never smiling, makes this experience a little unpleasant, even if the food is no doubt high quality and interesting

Those Morning Buns, though ...

By MrsSoup |

One of our Lyft drivers gave us some great advice and that was to make sure that we made time to have breakfast at Tartine Manufactory before we left San Francisco. We are so grateful to Flavio as this truly was a fabulous find. Nestled on the corner of an old building in an industrial/business district, Tartine Manufactory is the working bakery and cafe/restaurant of their two locations. We couldn't pass up the Morning Bun (as suggested by our driver) which was a flaky sweet deliciousness one has rarely experienced. The Smoked Salmon on their fresh baked Tartine bread was outstanding with cream cheese and dill and a side of coffee. The only regret I have is not bringing any of their baked goodness home with me -- if it would have even made it!

Good little cafe - but not the ultimate for Sourdough

By Catzmother |

I was so excited to visit because I heard they had amazing sourdough bread. We had a mix of soup (potato - so yummy) a grain salad (the crunchy rice was a bit off-putting but the veggies were very good), a hardy country bread & butter, a spread (mozz and pistachio) and a sugar bomb bun for dessert. Overall everything was very good and our server was attentive and helpful. The only disappointment came with the baguette I took to bring home with me to the East Coast. It wasn't sour at all and it was grainy (like sand). So, overall it was a good visit but it didn't hit my goal for the ultimate sour dough bread. The space is lovely and open and the coffee, lattes, etc are tasty and flavorful. It's a great little cafe for a break from the madness.

Real baked items!

By danykelly |

We came here for breakfast, and it did not disappoint. The food was delicious. It's not your typical diner breakfast, the offers are unique and based around a bakery style (read: lots of carbs and bread), so if you're looking for a paleo breakfast, this is not the place. Come here and spoil yourself, I got the avocado toast and the strawberry tartine, delicious! I would love to come back and try the chocolate cake, it looked amazing! Dense with just the right amount of love, in saying that, I'd also love to try their carrot cake, that would be amazing too I think. My friend got the salmon tartine and the coffee cake, she throughly enjoyed it. I would def come back and I highly recommend this place.

aMAZing

By Daniel S |

This is the sit down cafe restaurant in the Heath ceramic factory. Aside from the wonderful food and not to be believed bread, you have to tour the factory with its fabrication experiences of custom ceramics. Galleries of glass, paper, knives, flatwear, textiles and more. Pastries, chowders, sandwiches and more. Its a feast for the senses.

Soooooo delicious. Wonderful urban atmosphere.

By PamelaWright |

Our party came for lunch and shared several different sandwiches and pastries. I don't know if our group was extra hungry or overly caffeinated or what, but we were all literally drooling and moaning over how delicious everything was. The atmosphere was great. It's a bit crowded or busy, but that also makes for a fun buzz in the air. The decor has a great modern, industrial, urban sort of feel. The restaurant shares a warehouse space with the beautiful and tasteful Heath Ceramics, which was really fun to explore after lunch. We did find parking in the area quite difficult, but this was a spontaneous visit, and we probably could have planned better.

FIRST 'Receptions' LAST

By archimom7 |

I love this place. I do. I love the vibe. I love the food. I love the impeccable service. I did not like the receptionist. I went up to her to reserve a table and she looked at me with a very annoyed look and told me to wait an hour. She was not smiling. She did not even get my name nor my number. My sister had to ask her to type it down her tablet. I was looking forward to eating here but somehow what the receptionist did really stuck. I probably won't eat here again. My sister said the same thing.

Great Space, No Soul

By noite12 |

I guess I’m just another one of those fools whose heart was broken by San Francisco. I love the old Tartine and, so, wandering into their new spot, I suppose I thought I’d be able to capture some of that erstwhile magic of the city. Yes, it’s beautiful, well-lit, and chic. But something’s amiss. Even the pastries didn’t taste the same. The staff were nice, the coffee strong, but I guess what I was looking for wasn’t on the menu.

Pricey but a Great Indulgence if the seasonal menu is right

By MEGM |

I have enjoyed dining in this place for the past two years on my annual visits to San Francisco. Drawn by the success of their bakery a few blocks away, this restaurant provides a more spacious and comfortable dining area with a wider meal menu that is often as creative and delectable as their bakery creations. The overall ambiance is comfortable and chic but it can get really loud once the area gets filled. Its popularity has become widespread so waiting for a table can take a while (without a reservation). There is limited spacing between tables so you may occasionally have the unfortunate experience of having presumptuously obnoxious characters seated on an adjacent table. However, their seasonal menu usually offers a unique dish or two that makes it all worth any of these minor side-inconveniences. Serving sizes are modest but their presentation and overall flavor are usually impressive enough to make lunch or dinner worth savoring. Though not everything on the menu may fit this description, carefully filtering through the menu items with a few guiding inquiries with your friendly server can go a long way in choosing that dish that will leave you wondering how its flavor was even conceived. The Manufactory also sells, in a separate store-section, many of the noteworthy Tartine bakery pastries but this section is only open for a portion of the day (i.e. closes in the late afternoon) and offers only a limited variety compared to their bakery location. Overall this remains an ideal place for a small group of friends, or a calm treat with a loved one.

$70 Brunch

By Kathleen J |

We went for a late breakfast and waited so long that they finished serving breakfast by the time we were seated. Two entrees, one bloody mary and a cup of coffee and cup of tea made for a pricey morning. Timing on the service was off so by the time our food arrived the hot drinks were cold and nobody was refilling. Granted the place is popular on Sundays, the food is high quality and fresh but the overall experience was as disappointing as the Tartine restaurant that closed a couple of years ago.

So so

By Marishechka |

We have been there before . However, this time around we didn’t really like it . They tried their best in the beginning and as a time go no quality goes with it. The prices went higher rocketing when their portions went down in size. Simple gem salad was tasteless , no taste what so ever. Pasta-$24 was salty and chewy. Steak was-$82 !!!!??? Hello

Overpriced, slow service, cold food

By smithcu |

We LOVE Tartin’s croissants, but don’t like the line at the Tartin bakery, so we decided to try the Manufacrory. We arrived at 4:00, there we no seats in the small cafe area, although several tables were being used by Web surfers with empty plates and cups, so we decided to sit in the full service area. After a lengthy wait, which I passed trying to guess which of the chatting servers would come to our table, we said we only wanted to have some light fare and baked goods, and were answered with a confused look and silence. Well, bone marrow is not available everywhere, so let’s get that. We were warned that it would be a 15 minute wait, but we had waited that long for service, so no problem. Five minutes later, a lukewarm dish with day old toasted bread slices came out. Two bites were enough to convince us to cut our losses, go pick up a few of the remaining croissants at the counter, and leave. Oh, the croissants are still fabulous!

Continuing the Love

By Matt Pierce |

My visit to the original Tartine eight years ago still remains one of my favorite food experiences to date. It was one of the first times I felt the love of food oozing out of every nook of a place. Tartine Manufactory continues the art and love of food and opens it up to a larger, brighter format. Equally enjoyable. I arrived during the lunch rush but was able to score a seat at the bar immediately and enjoyed a delicious toast spread. Simple and delicious. I also picked up some goodies from the bakery counter. Make this enclave a stop on your list. You won’t be disappointed.

Fun and Delicious

By Kathi T |

The ambiance of Tartine is relaxed yet has a subtle vibe. The food is contemporary, taste-filled, fresh and beautifully prepared and presented. The BREAD is to die for. We had seaweed salted butter on the bread..we are addicted. The wait staff are friendly, helpful and attentive. Make a reservation!

Delicious Bread & Dessert

By kaylaartt |

Visited here on a Saturday night. It was crowded with groups of families and friends. Service was kind of funny (e.g., drinks didn't come out at the same time or were delayed until too late into the meal). Some of the dishes were very good (e.g., a chicken dish) and of course their bread. The best dish of the night was a very homemade apple pie.
