This is old school Houston at its finest. Be prepared to do drop some coin on this delicious H Town favorite. We each had the salad bar, shared a 16 oz NY strip and scalloped potatoes and a red wine flight. Excellent service, great ambiance $150 for two.

I don't know what was better- the food or the service! We were looking for an upscale dinner to dress up for while we were in Houston, and this was a 20 minute drive from downtown. They had incredible food and incredible service. The atmosphere was Texas! They had things on the menu that we've never seen before, so we were happy to try them.. and they were absolutely delicious.

Nice bar and bartender. Food and drink are on the expensive side. Desserts were big portion and not as tasty as the steak. We had a hard time to find parking on a Friday night.

We went here with 3 couples for a business dinner while in town for the Houston rodeo. Very nice place with a great Texas atmosphere. A lot of history there as well. Service was excellent. They really took care of us. Food was good as well and plenty of it. We all left swearing we would not eat again. Lol All in all I would go back. Great dining experience.

Wonderful service, food, and celebration policies! We felt more than special! Definitely a must. They gave us a printed picture and my husband got to choose his desert as a courtesy

Prices are up, quality of food and service is down. It is just not worth it anymore. Used to eat there 5 to 6 times a year but no more after the last visit. There are options out there that better and less expensive. Its just not what it used to be. What a shame.

The attraction is provided by the name, very fitting in Houston, the location and the well decorated rooms. Everything else is disappointing: * prices are disproportionate to food quality * quality is not as reliable as it used to be, two of us also had a potato soup and a creme boule that we would have returned if the waiter had paid any attention to us * service was poor, eat-pay-get out * the only Prosecco wine listed, the cheap quality La Marca brand that you find piled up at any Walmart, was priced at $ 60.00 The deserved reputation of the past has gone up in thick, expensive smoke.

Had planned on going to eat here the next time I would be in Houston. OMG!! Was way beyond my expectations. Service was absolutely great and the salad bar & steak were incredible. Had the small filet with the roasted brussel sprouts. Cannot say enough about the entire experience. Taste of Texas is now on my list for every time I am back in Houston!!!

On vacation in Houston, we chose Taste of Texas in search of an exemplary steak and it did not disappoint. We split a 32 oz Porterhouse which was amazing. The salad bar was a great bonus. All of the food - the steak, side of Texas au gratin potatoes, salad, and bread - was absolutely delicious. Alex N was our server and he was fantastic. Alex explained the restaurant layout, provided detailed information on the steak options, and was incredibly attentive. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who is visiting Houston and looking for a top-notch steakhouse.

Love a great steak and bog ‘ol salad? This place is for you. The grand style of the restaurant confirms, “Everything’s bigger in Texas!”

We went for my husband’s birthday. The food is ALWAYS delicious. We have eaten all over the world and find these steaks to be the best. If you haven’t tried one, you are missing out. Also our server Arely was excellent. It was better service than a Michelin restaurant. Whoever taught her the service craft did Taste of Texas a favor. She’s amazing. So attentive and perceptive of all our needs. Arely…. Job well done.

I always have my steak well done, most of the time it get overcooked but not here. It was just perfect, so tender and tasty. All steak came with a salad bar. I absolutely love the salad bar, it so fresh and so many choices of homemade dressing to choose from. I topped my salad with bacon, dried tomatoes and roasted slices almond, then mixed 2 different dressings (vinaigrette and the green dressing) it made my salad out of this world. There's fresh bake bread and fresh cut up fruits as well. Party of 8, the bills is $533.00 (including $76.00 tip) We like our waitress so much we even add another 35 bucks cash for her)

Went last month and it was so good had to go back for my birthday. In a room with 3 other bday girls! Excellent meal and service!

This place is fantastic. Great steak and ambiance. Our favorite for family occasions or a good meal out. Salad bar is incredible and even the kids dishes are great.

Was good but the steak not the best I would pick a place with dry aged steak instead but the salad bar is always good.. Free parking

The best steak house in Texas! It literally melts in your mouth... best Wagyu beef, prepared in such a way, heavenly taste.. even in a salad dish, they serve it in a crusted cheese bowl, so ended up eating up the “bowl”! I have no room left in my tummy for any desert.. If you as a first time visitor, come earlier before lunch time or dinner time, to avoid the wait, the restaurant does not take reservation at all..

Brilliant and authentic family owned steak house that is just superb. Both the service and the food was superb quality and Tyler made the experience.

You wait and wait as the place is always packed which you would think would be an indicator of great quality or great value. Unfortunately neither is correct. We were a table of 4, waited 30 minutes for a table on a Tuesday night (no pre booking uggggh). The salad bar is good, clean and with plenty of options and the warm bread is wonderful. Now to the quality, steaks are pretty pricey but I guess that goes to pay for all the overheads and location. The entrees will come out about 60-70 for a regular steak but then go way into the stratosphere for tomahawks etc. I opted for the ribeye which is a minimum of 16oz at $3.47 and oz. Just wondered why there was nothing smaller ? When it arrived the looked fantastic and was cooked perfectly and the anticipation was great. Unfortunately the steak was bland, and not the succulent flavour one expects from a good marbled ribeye. They use Angus Certified steak which is maybe the clue to the taste. They don't say what level and I suspect its not the USDA prime equivalent but a lower category. I declined the various sauces and add-ons as I want the steak to stand up on its own but next time I will take a pepper or blue cheese flavoring to add more flavour. Yes the ambiance is great and the historical repro artefacts are great but in the end I go there for food primarily and quite honestly there are other steak houses in town which give better value and certainly better taste although no fancy ambience. It will be a long while before I go back.

The staff and food are impeccable! Also, you are here during the holidays, it is a must to see the beautiful Christmas decor!

We went to Houston for just touristic purposes. Our main purpose to discover the city life and find out some good restaurants.las We heard that Houston steaks are one of the best steak around the world. My friend found this place through out his research. This was one of the option out of three options. Then he left it to me to decide then I decided this place. I don’t know where to start as whole experience was fantastic. Firs of all,There was loads of car parking spaces and it was located in the unique kind of land that belongs to restaurant.Once we entered the restaurant,We were calmly welcomed by the receptionist. Then there was bother lady approached and showed our table. We then settled properly .Waiter who served us very smiley and polite. She gave the menu and talking very friendly at the same time.It took a while for us to decide as the menu choices were a bit big.We wanted to try every single choice which was impossible:) Then we ordered and try many things. They were incredibly delicious.Atmosphere and ambiance is just so cosy and lovely.People who works over there very very friendly.Food is so delicious location is convenient. From beginning till end ,Out experience was fantastic. I loved everything there. Highly recommended

Always a great experience. The food quality is consistent and we are never disappointed. The service was over the top on our last visit in January this year.

I have been here twice for dinner recently. I had a very enjoyable meal both times. The restaurant is very cozy. It is like I am having dinner in a log cabin. There are several dining sections with a bunch of tables in each area. One of the major differences at Taste of Texas compared to many of the current trendy steakhouses and restaurants is that there was no ANNOYING LOUD MUSIC! We were able to enjoy our meal and have a conversation without having to yell at each other. I have no idea why so many restaurants feel the need to blast music at a deafeningly loud volume. It DOES NOT add to the dining experience in any way. For this ONE reason, I would make Taste of Texas my go to steakhouse in Houston. After placing our order, the waiter took us to the on site butcher shop to select the cut of steak we wanted. The first time here I had a 20 ounce Ribeye. It was cooked to my desired medium rare plus. Delicious! The second time I had the 14 ounce Bacon Wrapped Center Cut Filet topped with Herb Garlic Butter. The waiter suggested that I have the filet cooked medium rare. He said that since the steaks come out on a hot plate, the meat will continue to cook a bit to reach my desired medium rare plus temperature. It was a very good suggestion! The center cut filet was very tender. The bacon and herb garlic butter added to what was already a very good steak. Included with every steak is an open salad bar where you can build your own salad. There is also a selection of warm bread to choose from. Also included with every steak is your choice of one side. I went with the baked potato with toppings of scallions, bacon, cheese, and butter. Potato was a decent size and was baked just the way a baked potato should be. The service was very good both times I was here. I did not see any valets outside the restaurant but there is plenty of self parking. I highly recommend coming to Taste of Texas whenever you want a good steak in a laid back, calm, warm and cozy atmosphere. I know I will be back for sure.

This restaurant was amazing for dinner. There were 7 of us for dinner and we could not confirm a reservation for the time slot we wanted (shame on us for waiting too long). We were told there were tables held for walk-ins and so we took our chances and surprisingly were seated right away! The salad bar was excellent and the selection of beef dishes we had was amazing. Put this on your must do list when in Houston!

Just think of going to a buffet but it is one of the most well presented buffets, you have ever seen. Not dirty and messy. Variety to fit your dietary needs and every Texans dream of eating out! Food is good and service is cool!

My husband had never been here & I had, ten years previous. We made early dinner reservations the day after they re-opened due to Covid. The statue out front was wearing a Goliad “Come and Take It” mask with the canon on it, as were many employees. You may purchase one for $11.00. There’s plenty of parking & a hostess checks your reservation (which was verified by phone call & text) & promptly seats you. As you walk past the massive fireplace you’ll see very nice western decor throughout the place, even in the bathrooms. Because of “ social distancing” they had really huge cut outs of various Texas heroes placed at tables. It added a fun & festive feel. Our waitress took our drink order and brought those out. The tea was very good. No sweet tea option but plenty of sweetener options. We took a trip to the salad bar and employees plated it to our needs & through our guidance via plexi glass. The cilantro dressing is excellent, as is the bread (several options, we had the mini loaves of white bread) . The salad bar is excellent and features several lettuce options, dressing and fruit options as well as different sub salad items. My husband ordered the 10 oz filet medium, while I opted for prime rib medium. Both were cooked to perfection & the baked potatoes were evenly oven baked, not newked. They come with all garnishing options, however, we requested they be on the side & they obliged. Because we were celebrating the waitress gave us options for dessert choice & we ejected to have the creme brûlée with berries (strawberries, raspberries & blackberries) on top. The waitress lit the sparkler on top & took out picture which they printed as a keepsake. We were there right at two hours , but it flew by. Restrooms were nice and clean and had thick thirsty paper towels to dry your hands with. Great from start to finish!

Great lunch with family! The bread bar was amazing! Portions are plenty - but I had no problem finishing every morsel of my perfectly cooked sirloin! Best French fries !

I've been to Taste of Texas probably 3-4 times before last Friday evening, January 23rd, 2026. While the service was impeccable, the filet we had was not like shoe leather, it was like the boot heel. I am not a finicky person and will eat what and where a lot of people wouldn't think of going. The salad bar was great! I'd return for that alone and I do mean that alone. Overall, the cuts of meat are hugely overpriced! It is a wonderful setting and atmosphere to say the least. I will not return, at least for any kind of meat. Trying to be fair.

From the moment you enter, the genuine care for your dining experience is exceptional. You can either be taken to choose your steak or allow the expertise of your food attendant take care of that. Amazing, Relaxing, Calming dining experience. Absolute perfection for the end of a long day. Taste of Texas can spoil me anytime. THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR JOY!

Excellent service, perfect steaks, always fresh salad bar, delicious appetizers. Convenient location and spacious parking lot.

This restaurant is one of those we save for special occasions. The food is always perfect matched with incredible service. A truly amazing experience! Highly recommend this restaurant!

He showed us around the restaurant and made us have a wonderful evening. The food is unbeatable, the flavor, the meat juices, the texture of the food, it is an experience not to be forgotten. For the Colombian pocket it can be a bit expensive if one translates dollars into pesos, but frankly it is worth it. Going to such a special restaurant is not every day.

Taste of Texas is the premier spot to get the best steak dinners in Houston. May be a little expensive – but well worth it. Thumbs up here!

The last two years, my wife and I have traveled to Houston to visit our grandkids during the holidays. Each year, we’ve gone to Taste of Texas for a holiday dinner (seven of us). We went last night… Everything was fine until my wife’s steak arrived - well done, not medium rare. The waitress immediately recognized the issue and took back the meal. The rest of us ate our dinners expecting her meal would arrive shortly. As we ate, numerous staff came over to apologize for the situation. Her meal finally arrived, just as we were finishing (... at least 15+ minutes) Again apologies… I thought – for certain – they would comp her meal or offer to pay for dessert. Nothing! Super disappointing. I guess they have enough customers so that losing a yearly holiday patron doesn’t matter.

This is certainly a 5 star restaurant. The food was most delicious. Those in our group who had the steak, said it was wonderful. They even got to go back and pick which pieces they wanted before they were made. Even if you don't order steak, the salad and bread bar is worth the trip to the restaurant. Our waiter was friendly, helpful in every way, taking care of our every need and want.

Definitely a Bucket List MUST!! We have been here quite a few times and they never disappoint excellent service and food everything you'd expect for a top notch restaurant. Thanks again Chase fo helping us celebrate our 50th anniversary 👏

Took the family for a birthday celebration (they give you a huge free desert!) and had prime rib which was great - 10 oz. $40. Includes a huge salad bar, rolls that melt in your mouth, and a side. Great service and a picture to celebrate at the end. We made reservations ahead online and beat the crowd with no wait at 3:30 on a Saturday.

Our daughter wanted to go here for her 50th birthday. In the group was myself, my wife, my daughter and her husband, and their son. We did not have a reservation, but there is a huge, comfortable waiting area where you can order drinks and snacks. Our wait was 2 hours, but the food was worth waiting for. Depending on the steaks you want, you get to actually select (with the waitress) your steaks. Included with your meal is a gigantic double salad bar. The food is a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. Jessica was our marvelous waitress. She was so attentive, and made menu suggestions. She was prompt with our drinks and food. Jessica made our evening memorable.

Wow what an amazing true Texas delight this Houston restaurant was! Ashley E was our server and she was absolutely the best server we have ever had! She delighted in telling us all about the restaurant, it’s history and it’s story. She spoke so pleasantly about the owners being so kind and generous to work for. She told us how hard working they are and we even saw the owners going table to table greeting guests. Out table experienced prime rib, pecan crusted chicken, and filet. All were cooked to perfection with giant servings. The salad bar was nothing short of perfection with so many delicious options, breads, cheeses and fresh vegetables. Again thank you Ashley E! You made a special dinner extra special with your kind hospitality and professional service. God Bless the whole family and staff at this fabulous place!

Great ambience, warm hospitality, and truly delicious food. We really enjoyed the Rajasthani set menu—each dish was flavorful and beautifully prepared. The whole experience felt relaxed and welcoming, making our visit even more memorable. A fantastic place to dine, and we would happily come back again.

Lunch meeting has never been better when HELD AT Taste of Texas. Amazing salad bar and breads but be careful, size them with an eye for taste and not quantity if you are having steak or other significant entree. Service was impeccable, tables set perfectly, waiters come and go at the right time and not too often. Our group had Ribeyes and Filets, I had the 10 oz Filet with garlic butter and side of sautéed spinach. Amazing. See pic. The place is large but set up with smaller intimate rooms where you don’t feel crowded. Festive Xmas arrangements and antique artifacts adorn the walls and a large fireplace accents the time of season. All in all a unique and flavorful event. Recommend highly.

The place is beautiful and the attention was good. It has a nice salad bar. We had two rib eyes, which were substandard (chewy and tasteless). It was very expensive, considering the steak quality.

Great food - well prepared quality steak. Good salad bar - very difficult not to over feed yourself. Really fun environment with lots of interesting collectables scattered around the place. We visit Texas a few times a year and always put visiting Taste of Texas on our must do list.

Man this place is nice and the food is great...make a reservations because the waits are long if you dont! The owner walks around and engages with the clientele, he is a really nice guy!...When you decide what you will eat you will be taken to the butcher shop where you can pick your steak right there...They have an onsite shop where you can also buy steaks and other items they sell at dinner. The salad bar, which is included with your meal, is bountiful and the Asaigo bread rolls are the bomb! Oveall, a great place to eat. It is pricey but well worth it!!

This place is truly magical at Christmas time. My family and I visited for the first time on December 18th. It was a weekday around 2 pm and the restaurant was still packed for lunch. Our server Lilia was an absolute delight. She was so friendly and welcoming. We all tried the cinnamon slammer drink in the boot and it was delicious. You also get to keep the cute boot glass. I ordered the filet and Lilia took me to the back to pick out my steak and even suggested the best cut. That was a really special touch. We started with the amazing salad bar and homemade rolls. It would be so easy to fill up on the rolls and salad alone. I see why everyone raves about the cheese rolls. The salad bar was fantastic! Next came the steak and it was truly the best one I've had in ages. It was so tender and full of flavor. I also tried the pecan pie for dessert and my family tried the chocolate heaven. We all loved the desserts too. After our meal we waited for their Santa to come and take photos. He looked amazing and really added to the holiday experience. Thanks again to Lilia for making our first visit special. We can't wait to come back.

My goodness what a Great Restaurant to go to. My daughter first took me there for Mother’s Day. I truly enjoyed myself. We had to wait for awhile. While we were waiting there was snacks and soft drinks served. I had never been to a Restaurant that served refreshments before dinner. The food was fantastic and the salad bar had quite a few selections. I truly recommend this Restaurant.

Fist of all, let me say that the following review is not typical of our normal Taste of Texas experience. The service tonight was subpar. Our waitress was very inattentive and has I could careless attitude. We had to ask for the drink menu, and when we ask if instead of a compound butter with our steak, if we could have Béarnaise sauce. We were told that was not an offering with our steak, only the filet. I told her that I bet if she ask, they would be happy to do it. She said she would ask, but no promises. Really, it is pre-made. It did arrive with the steak. One of our guests did order the filet and ordered it medium well. It came out and it was cooked to medium rare. Sent it back and when it returned it was still very red in the inside, still medium rare. Sent it back a second time and this time it came out well done. After the first send back, they would have offered to cook an entire new filet. The manager did come by and offer an apology and offer a free dessert. A nice jester. However, when the dessert tray was brought out we were told were could only choose from certain items. Not anything on the tray. Really????? Finally when the bill was presented I had my credit card sitting on my wallet, not in the bill cover. Without asking the server came by and picked up the bill and bill cover and again with asking grabbed my credit card off my wallet. For a bill of $143 for two I expect a lot more, like we have come to expect.

I have been the beneficiary to know the Taste of Texas family in Houston for decades. They are the most generous, authentic, and humble people I have ever met. I have dined at some of Houston's finest dining establishments for years. Texas of Texas sets the standard for not only exceptional food, but the absolute Best service. Every time I walk in the restaurant, I leave feeling as though I was their most important customer of the week. Their attention to excellence and food preparation is only second to their wonderful hospitality.

If you see people standing outside waiting to get in to The Taste of Texas, there’s a reason for that. The food is outstanding with service to match. Top quality food in a relaxed family friendly environment. The unlimited fresh self serve salad bar and hot/warm bread station will not disappoint. As if this wasn’t enough the scrumptious offerings from the menu offer to die for mouthwatering surf and/or turf items. This restaurant is at the top of our list year after year. Stop in you’ll be glad you did.

We have been patrons of this restaurant for many years. Yes, the food is outstanding, EVERYTHING is outstanding. After each visit we always say that Taste of Texas was the best steak house that we have ever visited, and we have visited dozens, perhaps over a hundred steak houses, throughout our many years of dining! Taste of Texas states in their advertising that they "Strive for excellence" and that is apparent. Many people do not realize that the Taste of Texas offers a few one-of-a-kind tours. To find them, go to their website, and follow the link to "News and Events". Then, link to "Upcoming Events". So, I opted for The ADULT TEXAS HISTORY TOUR, which is narrated by owner Nina (of the Edd & Nina duo). A shout-out to "Ashleigh" who assisted me when I had an issue scheduling. Thank you! When arriving for the tour, we were checked in by "Lacey", a most pleasant person, who gave us a rundown of where to go and what we would be doing. The tour starts with a nice continental pastry layout with, yes, coffee. After all it was 9am! Plus, live wonderful comfort strumming guitar music and singing. So nice. Nina gives such a delightful and entertaining talk. She talks for two hours, but time passes fast, the way she presents Texas history is so-so very interesting! Each story was very unique and riveting. What I didn't know is that the price for the tour is 100% donated to their staff as an education fund. They care not only for the customers, but care dearly for their employees. At the end of the presentation there are even door prizes. With the tour came Angus Steak tenderloin skewers, with wild rice and a veggie. and WOW tasting Snickers Pie for dessert. We visited the Taste of Texas store and bought a set of high carbon stainless steel steak knives. They can laser engrave them in front of you with any name in about a minute, which is what we opted to do. They are made in Brazil, not China! Also we found that they have a cool newsletter. We subscribed to it on a link on the website. The Taste of Texas is worth a visit. Once you dine there, you will return!

Fantastic even with a wait for a table. We went for our anniversary. Great salad bar. Enjoyed picking the steak. Cooked to perfection. Attentive waitress. Mouth watering. Leave the kids at home. Enjoy yourself. Loved the hot rolls and gift shop. Two, too small bathrooms. Plan accordingly. Enjoy!

In addition to being a beautiful place it is worth waiting for! The food is amazing and the service is unparalleled! Thank you for the Texas experience!!! We recommend to all!

Very good food and nice atmosphere. If you want to take the meat to cook at home, there is a shop to buy it. Super attentive waiters. I will definitely be back soon.

We love this restaurant and went twice in October for birthdays. Love the salad bar and hot cheese rolls. The filet medallion dinner is so flavorful i ordered it again. Our hubbys enjoyed shopping in the steak store. We plan to go back soon.

The best vegetarian restaurant in Houston. Just kidding. The T-bone steak was unforgettable, and the Texan Sangiovese (from Duchman winery)surprisingly good. Also the great ambiance.

Giant establishment. All the servers are well trained and super attentive. Salad bar is super clean and well maintained. I think this steakhouse represents Houston. Love establishment service and food. Great wine selection. Questioning pricing but what ever. Two thumbs up!

Not just another steak house! This is a place you go to and take your time and savor the experience! make time to be here at least two hours and make a reservation. The Decor inside will blow you away. Walk around the whole place and take in the beautiful Texan Decorations. . even the bathrooms have some vintage artifacts and such. As for the steak yes it is worth it!!! The salad bar is extensive and the homemade breads delightful. Service is what it should be the way it used to be with caring attentive wait staff like the good old days of decades ago. The desserts are huge and sharable if you feel like sharing. Don't be afraid to ask for a to go bags as we did. The steak was just as good the next day! Huge cuts of meat great quality. this place is a must for tourists and locals alike.

Wow, choose your own steak in the kitchen, a new experience. When you are in Houston. It’s expensive, but worth it to eat their once. Greatest steak I had in years. And leave some space for the dessert as well

Went to a business dinner with with three others. Our clients from Housin brought us here and indicated that it was one of the best steakhouses in Houston. We were not disappointed. Our service was excellent. They are still operating there salad bar with staff preparing your salad with items requested. I had the 10 oz filet and it was prepared perfectly. There are no small cuts of steak here. All four of us were pleased with our steaks. Will say that the restaraunt was heavily decorated for Christmas in October. Socially distanced tables and all staff wore masks. Fairly expensive.

Great food people waiting area wait staff scenery salad bar oh yeah steak good attitude all round.i will return

This Restaurant has always been one of my faves in Houston.......Its a can't miss if you ever come into town, their wine selection is really broad and good

I ordered a single crab cake for $20 that arrived mushy and undercooked. Service was good; however our single 1/2 bottle of wine was priced at $50 for a domestic wine with a screw on cap. All their prices have increased 25% of more over the last year, but gouging customers is never healthy for a restaurant. very disappointing!

I went to this restaurant on 6/15/25. When it was our turn to be seated, I was told the strollers are not allowed in the dining area. I was asked to bring a carseat instead. I complied and went back to get the carseat. After I came back in, the hostess led me to the dining area. I saw another family pushing a stroller into the dining area. I asked the hostess why they were allowed to bring a stroller in? She said that it was not a stroller. I asked her, are you sure? Then she went to get a manager. The manager asked me what was wrong and I explained the situation. He went over to the family and asked them to fold up the stroller. He came back and explained the actually collapsible strollers were allowed. I asked why wasn't I allowed the option to collapse my stroller. Then he said that it's already happened, and there's nothing he can do. I left a complaint card since I was unhappy with this experience. The owner , Nina Hendee, called me and told me she watched the security footage and was made aware of the situation. I asked her her thoughts on this. She said that the fire marshall requires them to prohibit strollers from entering the dining room. I asked if she saw the other family pushing a stroller into the dining area while I was being seated. She immediately got upset and told me that there's nothing they can do about their policy because they're required by law. I told them, that I didn't disagree with their policy, in fact I complied with their policy. I was just asking why the policy wasn't applied in the same way to the other guests. She responded with, "you are to never to return to my restaurant". Is this how a restaurant owner responds to their customers? Class act.

Great atmosphere, wonderful service and amazing steaks and desserts. We went there twice last month. My wife and son had a large rib eye and I had the largest filet they have. They were fantastic. The sides are tasty and the dessert is to die for. Would go back anytime. This place never fail to impress.

It is not a high end restaurant they portray to be. It has unhelthy atmosphere. Mediocre food and service. They do have an interesting decor. Overall it was disappointing. Not worth the price.

Totally dissatisfy with this restaurant. Over blown. Everything wrong said about Texas Food is mediocre. Created to impress

Great place overall, awesome food and even better service - steaks are out of this world. Positively will go back.

Amazing steaks, sides, desserts, iced tea, and atmosphere, Staff were courtesy, attentive, professional, and friendly. A wonderful dinner experience!

Whether you’re looking for a fabulous steak, want to indulge indulge in a great salad bar, or have a history loving family member this place is for you! When you order a steak they bring you back to pick out which steak you want. To get there you pass by a solid salad bar which is included with you steak. Do not skip on the homemade bread and butter station. If you’re a savory person the onion bread is great, personally I couldn’t get enough of the white bread with the sweet cinnamon butter! Our table had a variety of steaks - some bacon wrapped, some with garlic butter, some with truffle butter - so many options! Our personal favorites for the side were the loaded baked sweet potatoe and bacon jam brussel sprouts. There were tons of historical elements scattered around town he restaurant to look at. Door from the Alamo, here! And some of the best service I’ve ever had at a restaurant.

What can I say except exceptional service with a smile. Though food was absolutely wonderful. Great ambience and just in time for Christmas.

My sister and I were taking her grandson and his wife here for lunch for his birthday. Our server Bobby was so attentive, professional and all around great person! We had a beautiful celebration mostly because of his service! The appetizer was amazing, salad bar and pecan pie with ice cream for dessert was phenomenal. The sparkler and photo after the meal is a very nice touch. Consistently a wonderful dining experience. Thank you ToT!

Okay, this is an addition to my previous reviews of TOT. You cannot beat the environment and the layout of TOT. I wanted to say this up front. But, that is all I can say for now. I know the TOT menu front to back and I decided on the 10oz filet. I informed the server that I wanted it cooked RARE to Med-RARE and to heavily season the steak before grilling. When the steak arrived, it was cooked medium to medium well. Hardly any pink in the middle. Yes, I was asked to cut into the steak to insure it was cooked correctly, but I was with a group and did not want to send the steak back. Furthermore, there was NO SEASONING on the steak. I informed the server of the issues after I consumed the steak and was told that a manager would stop bye. I told the server that I did not want to make a seen, and just wanted her to know the issues. I will return again in about a month or so and this trip will be on my own. I will explain everything thoroughly on the next trip.

I had a filet and was cooked perfectly and was very delicious. They have a large salad bar, but I would prefer having an option to have a side salad delivers to me. The restaurant is very large and very loud. The wait staff is very good.

Food and service was great. However the owners proudly display the Confederate flag inside their establishment.

Place fills up very quickly on Friday evening. Great salad and fruit bar included with dinner--very fresh. The regular rib eyes are tender and cooked to perfection. The Tomahawks are giant size and can be shared by 2 people ---they will even cut and divided it for you at the table-- that the bone back for soup or give that you doggy and he will love it too....YUMMY. Side order of brussel sprouts-- very very delicious. For 1st timers visiting the restaurant, they will let you borrow a Cowboy hat and give you a bandana and take your pic for you too. Great fun place to eat.

Is my favorite steakhouse in the USA! Great wines and awesome service. You pick your on steaks, flavor and cooking styles.

Taste of Texas is our go to place for special occasions. On December 24th the family gathered for a Christmas celebration, there was 8 of us and this has been our go to location for many years. Everything started out as we have come to expect with fantastic service, second to non-salad bar and appetizers. When the main course meals were brought out everybody's looked great, but several of the meals did not meet the expectation that we have come to expect from Taste of Texas. 1). The two Salmon plates served was under cooked and not hot 2). The Ribeye looked great but was dense and lacked any flavor. Not the meat quality I have ever had here. Like I said there was 8 in our party not all had issues with their meals. After so many visits to Taste of Texas this unfortunate experience will not detour us in the future as things can happen in such a busy time.

Hands down the best steakhouse anywhere. From a very generous salad bar to delicious steaks and top notch service - Taste of Texas can not be beat! Have been to many other steakhouses in the Houston area and nothing compares! A must try!

This location was amazing and I would recommend it to anyone visiting Houston. Our waiter Jerry was superb. He paid attention to all details.

Super dinner on special cancer free celebration! Masks are required but everyone is aware of COVID. Three of the four dimes on beef medallions and the perfectly delicious. The other guest enjoyed the chicken medallions. The salad bar is outstanding also: sneeze shield is in place and the staff serves the plate with whatever delicacy one cares to add. The wait staff is extremely professional.

absolutely cannot fault the service, the quality of the meat or the attentiveness of the servers who were great with some kids in our party. expensive dinner, but a lovely treat.

We wanted to go for our anniversary. Unfortunately they were all booked up and we couldn’t get reservations. They take reservations 30 days in advance. We will do that next time. Instead we left our house and drove an hour to wait for a table. (Yes it was worth it!). Waiting can be 2 hours or longer. You have the option of selecting your cut of meat. It is all registered Black Angus and aged to perfection. The salad bar had a nice unique variety, including cheese you slice. Everything was fresh and plentiful. The hot yeast rolls and cornbread with whipped butter, could make my meal. Oh so Yummy! Our waitress was very attentive and our glasses never ran dry. She even brought us a decanter of Dr. Pepper! The steaks were cooked, just as we ordered, to perfection. They melted in your mouth. I added lemon butter on the side. Next was the largest dessert tray ever! Try to save room

What a place! We were on our honeymoon and are having a few nights in Houston. The food was amazing but service better! Think our server was called Tyler and after our conversations his last name may have been Sutton. An absolute gent who made my wife’s night. Highly recommended and if this is what Texas is about we will be back from the UK soon!

We love Taste of Texas as a family! Since COVID we have been a bit worried to go due to inside p Seating vs outdoor patio.

Been here several times on business dinners and really was impressed, so when passing thru Houston with my family, we had to stop for lunch. We had a reservation, was promptly greeted and seated, our waiter was fantastic. Never in the way, but always on top of absolutely everything. The salad bar was very good, but held back knowing the steaks and sides are the real star here. Everyone’s food was excellent. Not one single criticism, all the way thru dessert. Only issue, gotta go to Houston to eat here.

Visiting Houston after Wine Tasting at Pur Noire Winery in Houston. I went to visit this restaurant and the food was good. The customer service isn't worth it, the wait isn't worth it, and the restaurant needs to be cleaned up/the Windows need cleaning. I wouldn't probably go

Love love love taste of Texas! Have been going here since I was in my twenties with my family. Now that I have my own family. This is our go to place!!

Visited Taste of Texas, October 12, 2025, unfortunately, my experience did not meet expectations. I ordered my steak medium well, but it was served medium rare — the same issue occurred with another member of my party. As a result, both of us had to return our steaks to be cooked properly, which caused a delay while the rest of our group waited to eat and our sides grew cold. When our steak was returned, it was still poorly seasoned, and the green beans were cold, which made the meal less enjoyable. By that point, I had lost my appetite. When I received my bill, there was a $18 salad bar charge; the steak entrée includes the salad bar. I brought this to the manager’s attention (I believe her name was Taya), and she stated that the charge remained because, according to her, I had visited the salad bar twice. I explained that I only had one salad — I packed it to go since I didn’t eat it during the meal. After some discussion, she eventually removed the charge. To have the quality of my meal fall short and have my integrity questioned over a salad was deeply disappointing and embarrassing. If I can pay $65 for a steak, surely a $18 salad would not be an issue.

Enjoyed dinner with a group of 50 friends last evening. The two owners came into our private dinning area, introduced themselves and then shared snippets of the great history of Texas. This personal touch only competed with the FANTASTIC food. I had the 10-ounce filet and can still smell and taste the succulent meat from my fond memory. No question, any guest or family from out of state or the country will join my wife and I at Taste of Texas in the future to experience the rich Texas history and food that has made this restaurant one of the very best in town - and that’s saying a lot because Houston knows steaks!! Remember San Jacinto is right in Houston’s backyard.

Met up with a group of friends for a get together party, So, We choose this restaurant for lunch.. we ordered Jalapeño Stuffed Shrimp and Apple Dumplings... Food was damm good.. Service was top notch..

Revisited after a long absence. We brought family from out of town to experience and they loved it. Food was good and the service was outstanding. Probably have to visit more often but those prices are not for the faint of heart.

Exceptional service, allways with time for each customer. The food is like comming to heaven, and it isn't even expensive. The only issue is that it is so popular, that you will have to wait a little every time

This restaurant has the best salad bar and to-die-for steaks. The prices are higher than other steak restaurants but it’s worth it! We go there for every birthday and anniversary. :)

Our favorite for steak in Houston as it comes out perfect every time. The restaurant was festive with all the Christmas decorations. The hosts sat us right away and were friendly. We had the filet medallions which came out cooked exactly the way we ordered and were seasoned nicely. The meals come with salad bar. The salad plates are cold and the salad bar has many things to choose from. You can also get seafood if you do not want steak and just the salad bar as a meal. Everything is very clean and our server Kathy was very polite, pleasant and attentive. If you have visitors, this is the place to take them for a delicious steak meal.

My husband took me to Celebrate my 65th Birthday!! And the food and Service was horrible! He's prime rib cold and super dry, the bake potatoes was hard as a rock! My dessert that i took home was not what i order!! We just wanted to get out!! And when i tried to complain! The owner Edd yelled at me like a was a child and told me to never come back!! And believe you WE WON'T EVER EVER COME BACK!! I think this old man has Dementia, and lack of any sympathy!!After all you only turn 65 once.

This was a pretty great experience from end to end - the only criticism I had was that it took a while for us get the check at the end, but not the worst thing.

Original location near town and country mall. Food is good and high quality but prices are on the high side now.

I visited Taste of Texas for my birthday, and it did not disappoint. The Steak was incredible, the salad bar was extensive, the bread delicious, and the appetizers & drinks superb. And be sure to go on a birthday or anniversary for a free, homemade desert!

Pretty much tracked with all of the other reviews -- a one-time experience you'll won't regret. Staff was exceedingly warm and copious amounts of very good food.

I visited with my husband and our son. We were really impressed with the quality of the food and the great service. Our waiter Rebecca had true knowledge of their menu and help us with our choices. I had the Marinated Steak Skewer and it was delicious. I requested medium well but I think it was actually just medium because it was very pink but OMG it was so juicy and delicious. My son had 14 oz fillet that he devoured pretty fast, his words “best steak I have ever had” and he is very picky. I must say though, this restaurant is not cheap but totally worthwhile if you go out to eat once in a blue moon like us. We arrived around 5:45 but were not seated until 7:30 because they do not take reservations, so plan accordingly. For appetizer we had the Jumbo Crab cake and the spinach artichoke, both deliciously tasty.

Review based on our dinner followed by a lunch in the same week. Dinner - fast, great tasting, attentive waiter, hot food, just perfect - 5 stars Lunch-SLOW food, baked potato not hot or soft, missing waiter to take order, missing waiter forgetting something to bring and finally bringing after we were finished. - 2 Star We were very surprised at lunch since this was not on par with Taste of Texas. But had this been our first time eating here instead of years, we would not be returning.

We have been going to Taste of Texas for many years. The salad bar is incredible as are the steaks and shrimp dishes. You can pick out your own steak. In fact , everything is delicious. The staff is great and the manager has always stopped by our table to make sure everything is perfect. You cannot make reservations and the wait time can be lengthy, but they have a waiting room with free popcorn and drinks. Also a full bar and big screen tv for your enjoyment while you wait. This is one of my favorite steak houses to visit.

This place is a hidden gem. We had a 3 day stay in Houston and we spent 2 dinners here. This place has a great menu, salad bar, homemade bread, and unbelievable desserts. They have something for everyone. Between our two visits my wife and I had filet, lobster, and prime rib. Everything was good. Our waiter Vince was especially good. He had such attention to detail. We don’t go to Houston often but when we do, we will eat here every time! They also took us on a tour of the kitchen and showed us the steak cabinet.

Can't beat the salad bar and the filet was fabulous. Excellent service an all staff were friendly. Great place to take clients and have conversation over a great meal.

Houston is full of great steak houses, this one isn’t bad, it’s just not great. When you have that many options, this chain type restaurant isn’t one I’d give much thought to. It’s cheaper than many of the great places, but spend a bit more and you’ll be rewarded with a better dining experience. Again, it’s fine. But do you really want a “fine” steak??

So many red meat choices. I sure didn't come here for poultry. I ordered a big T-bone steak, with a baked potato. Delicious steak, cooked according to my specifications (medium rare). I loaded the potato up with butter. I'm an enophile, having consumed wines from dozens of countries. I noticed the restaurant has a most impressive wine list, of wines from various regions and countries. Some of the wines are available by the glass. I ordered a glass of cabernet sauvignon from California. It blended well with the steak.

The salad bar is good and the meat is pretty good but not the greatest taste... Average ticket is 40 a person always busy...

Great venue, cozy although very large and crowded, staff super kind and fun, excellent salad bar, amazingly tasty steaks that you choose from the counter. Overall great value for money.

First time in Hoston, Texas and also my first time in a steakhouse. My relatives did enjoy the place and food. I'm not a steak person and I hardly eat steak or beef in general but it was delicious. I get to choose my steak lol ( my culinary class went down the drain after I graduated) but of course, I went with my waiter recommendation. This place is also kids friendly, they kid's menu. We all didn't like the taste of dessert, again maybe we are just picky. My friend order gin and tonic where he has to make it himself, which of course my friend enjoyed it a lot and the wine. My cousin's husband enjoyed his drink too. The waiter were super helpful and friendly.

I have been a few times and the last time I was so disappointed. Yes, the salad bar is amazing but who want to fill up on salad when the main attraction is steak. There are good steaks all over in Texas. This upscale restaurant is just looking dated and casual. For the price I would prefer Perry’s or Ruth Chris.

Great food and ambiance. Was able to select my own steak and it was prepared perfectly. Good salad bar and side dish. Service was stellar.

Great steak, salad bar and service. They always cook the steak right and it’s delicious! We always come here for my or my husband’s birthday. They give us free dessert and a picture too!

Overall a decent experience, food was ok, service was very good. About what was expected in food quality, a bit overpriced for what is presented.

Came highly recommended and you didn’t disappoint! Service was excellent (Tina?) and food was amazing! I ordered the pick your own steak…20oz ribeye…perfectly done! We will be back….definitely!!

Our cowboy ribeyes were mealy, tough, loads of gristle, and almost no seasoning. They were actually dry with no juiciness despite being medium rare. I love ribeye because they’ve always been so juicy and flavorful . It’s a shame because we were all hyped up to have the best steak in Texas and what we got was a very subpar piece of steak. Salad bars always bring it down a notch for me and it was mediocre. Apparently the bread and rolls from it were good? Maybe I was expecting to top notch steak at a steak house purported to be the best of the best? Any who, won’t be going back but y’all enjoy.

As a native Houstonian, I have been spoiled with the opportunity to try out many great steakhouses. However, Taste of Texas has consistently been my go to place to celebrate special occasions and to take out of town guests. The quality of the food and the excellent service are always on point and you can’t beat the atmosphere. It is not a chain restaurant and has a unique ambiance which only enhances the experience. If you are looking for a great steak, give them a visit, you will not be disappointed.

Best steak in all of Texas. I cannot rave enough about this place. Been coming for birthdays and anniversaries for the last 17 years! Their Mac and cheese is to die for - along with the jalapeño shrimp poppers, cinnamon butter, and any dessert. Can’t do wrong with whatever you order!

We had a fantastic time and it was a truly Texas experience. Our waitress (Natasha T) was very welcoming and accommodating. Troy was extremely knowledgeable and informed us about the history of the place when we were looking at the photos. The hospitality and decorations are wonderful, great service. We got to pick our steaks and the salad bar was delicious!

A really darn good Ribeye steak, the best I’ve had during my Texas trip. The restaurant lets you go behind the scenes in meat room and choose which steak you want, pretty neat. The salad bar provided some extra value. Service was also very good.

Best steak in Houston. Relaxed atmosphere full of Texas history and always worth the wait. No reservations so bring patience but the wait is worth it. Excellent salad bar and bread and try to save room if you can for dessert!

I remember coming here for the first time about 25 years ago for a class field trip! We’ve since been back a few times and have very consistently received great service, wonderful ambience, and delicious food. Always love checking out the paintings and various ephemera. You haven’t fully explored Houston if you haven’t been here at least once.

If you're wanting a good piece of meat, this is the place for you. Nice dining experience. We always dress up a bit when we go. It's a nice place, not too casual.

If you are looking for a good steak, this is the right place to go. You must have a reservation if you don't want to wait 45 minutes. But it deserves the waiting. You should try center cut filet, its delicious. Soft and amazing taste. Salad bar is always good. You prepare your own salad at your taste.

Visited here while in Houston for 3 day, it was one of our favourite steak restaurants in the world. We have visited a couple of times previous and had a 5 star experience. During the visit we sat at the bar for 30 mins and the staff there were top shelf. We we’re then shown to the table and was introduced to our server. Service was poor he forgot a lot of our order he disappeared for long periods, he left all the empty glasses on the table when clearing. On delivery of our food the ribeye was cold and it took ages for him to return so we had finished our meals before our friend had any attention. Our friends meal took what seems ages to be sorted with no apology no sympathy or recourse it would have been nice for him to be offered a drink while waiting. Every time we have eaten here the standard has been top shelf but this time it was so disjointed. We would visit again just to see if the it was just a one off…

We at here with friends, both of us celebrating their anniversary. What a wonderful place to go to for a celebration! The decorations inside the restaurant were beautiful, the waitstaff was very attentive and the food was outstanding! We couldn't ask for more.

This place is racist and when a black women confronted them about a white customer who was yelling at them, they kicked out the black woman. Never will I set my foot in a business that allows racism to happen.

This is the place on all of Houston when I want a good steak.. my family and I have came here through out the years and it’s always consistently great with service and food quality.. it my family and I want a good top their experience this is where we come and will happily wait in line

We were celebrating hubby’s birthday and were able to get in on a Friday. It was as good as we remembered - tenderloin medallions were some of the best steaks we ever had; comes with potatoes & asparagus. Hubby said the T-bone quality was outstanding. Tried the roasted Brussels too and there’s plenty to share. The salad bar has the freshest lettuce with a good selection of toppings and dressings. All the dressings were so fresh/tasty- favorites were the cilantro and the cactus. The hot cheesy rolls were the bomb! We got a pecan pie with cinnamon ice cream & the biggest piece of chocolate cake ever for dessert - fabulous. They still take your picture & light a sparkler on a complementary dessert when celebrating a birthday- no Polaroid these days it’s crisp clear digital pictures for everyone now! Our waiter was friendly and attentive. Their prices are very reasonable considering the top notch service and the wonderful food. We like the relaxed atmosphere here too; and plan to return very soon now that they accept reservations.

I have been going to the Taste of Texas for 30 years and I have never had a bad meal. They excel in steaks, chicken and unique dishes with an amazing salad bar and awesome wine selection. Their service is outstanding and they really train their servers well. I highly recommend a trip here any day or night!

The food and service is excellent. The building is top notch. I'm very picky about the noise level and that is why I gave it a very good rating instead of excellent.

My boys love coming to Taste of Texas for any occasion. Everything is always so fresh. The salad bar is the best in the area. Sometimes I feel I could fill up on just the salad. There really so many delicious choices. Love the big blocks of cheese on the end and the fresh bread… family favorite is the jalapeño cornbread. My boys love the ribeyes and filets. This time, I went for the grilled Texas Redfish. It was presented so beautifully and topped with plenty of lump crabmeat. The tomatoes and spinach were sautéed perfect and every bite was mouthwatering with an explosion of flavors. Yes, I ate it all. The atmosphere and service has always been friendly, professional, and very festive during the holidays. We love the whole experience, and we will be back.

We went to Taste of Texas a year ago - and were seated at 9:15 for an 8:00 PM reservation. This time we had a 7:00 PM reservation - arrived on time - the hostess said "we are waiting for some large parties to finish. You will get the next table." This happens to be what we were told a year ago as we waiting for over an hour while our kids fell asleep - and ended up too tired to eat and having their steak taken home and served for breakfast (mostly thrown out) the following day. I said "how long is that apt to be" and a tall guy standing next to the hostess, in an aggressive voice, rudely parroted "you will be seated when a table is available" - I responded in kind, somewhat rudely but quietly and in a calm voice, nothing far out of line - our entire party was rudely kicked out - they were even rude to my 80+ year old mother and stepfather, who had no idea what was happening - escorted by security. This place does not deserve to have "Texas" in their name - I don't know the name of the first tall guy - the backup manager's initial were DM (sorry, not sure if I can post the entire name) - I got his card. Our party had several kids and two senior citizens that were kicked out. DM and his tall counterpart should not have direct contact with customers - the security guard can back up my account of the event - he was polite.

They treat POC terribly. When asked for help, you are ignored and thrown out.

If yo have a business lunch or family dinner or any kind of celebration Taste of Texas will not disappoint you. Great service excellent food every single time.

We arrived at the restaurant after driving in from Fort Worth and we were really looking froward to having a great meal but by the time we were finished we walked out very disappointed. We have been going to this restaurant since they still had the horse and buggy in their parking lot over at the town and country mall and we have spent many occasions with them. This night was completely different. We arrived on time for our reservation and we were immediately seated which was great but our waiter was very slow in greeting us and remained slow throughout the meal. The most disappointing part was the steak did NOT melt in my mouth as it usually did. My wife's sizzling steak on the supposed to be HOT plate was not sizzling and did not taste as good as she would normally get. The soup and vegetables were up to their high standards but the appetizer was barely warm. Overall we were VERY DISAPPOINTED. We will not be returning until we hear that these problems have been corrected.

This restaurant has been around for a long time and is as good as ever if not better. Nice casual but great stakes, chicken and salads and good atmoshere. The only problem is that there is most of the time a bit of a wait but is well worth it.

We haven’t been to Taste of Texas in years but went with another couple. We arrived at 4pm on a Saturday and had to hunt for a parking space and then had a 45 minute wait for a table. The waiting area is nice and we had drinks so no worries. The wait was actually less than 45 minutes so that was good. The food was excellent and very attentive servers were also appreciated. Wine list is too expensive but I just found something that was ok for a lower price.

Used to be my favorite steak place before Covid. Not sure what happened. Service is plain unprofessional for kind of restaurant that this place used to be. Salad bar is still one of the best steak place bars. Meat cut that was requested (made a mistake by not personally selecting it for the 1st time) was bad, hard and chewy. Requested medium, got unevenly cooked Porterhouse steak over cooked / burned on surface and edges and raw around the bone.

I've only ever had the center cut filet wrapped with bacon - Delish! It literally almost melts in your mouth. The salad buffet is always fresh and since the waiters/waitresses rely on good tips, we have yet to be dissatisfied with their service. I highly recommend it, but if you dare go during the holidays, beware of the wait time and bring along your patience.

This is an amazing restaurant where nothing is disappointing. Great service and amazing food. Well worth the wait and money.

A Houston institution. Taste of Texas is always a good bet. Great steaks and good atmosphere. Rated it 4/5 because occasionally the service can be a little slow.

The steaks are great and the service was great until it came time to get a to go plate. My wife and I have visited this establishment on 3 occasions without any concerns. I went back for seconds to the salad bar without giving it a second thought. Lo and behold upon completing my meal the server asked to package my leftovers and informed me there is a charge for seconds and she held my salad until I gave her an answer if I wanted to keep the salad. To my ignorance I never knew there was a charge otherwise I would have put more on my salad plate or not get seconds at all. Needless to say it was an embarrassing situation. It appeared to me and those sitting at a table nearby that I was stealing a $17.00 salad and I am getting ready to pay $122.00 for steaks.

Ordered grilled chicken sandwich. Attempted to substitute the steak fries for a baked potato but I requested the butter and cheese be on the side so I would not have more butter than my preference. The waitress Rosa B said that getting anything on the side of a baked potato was not possible. So I just kept the steak fries on the order. The sandwich was really good but the fries were a bit soggy with no crisp at all.

The steaks are among the best available in Houston ... period. The prices aren't Pappas restaurant crazy expensive, but it ain't cheap. However, as a "special" occasion place, for steak lovers, this should be among the top 2 or 3 places in town. Here's the "but." The salad bar is exceptional, as is the rolls, but for a "sit-down" kind of place, it's a irritant ... there you are w/family or clients and they're constanting leaving to go and get a salad/rolls. I'm in a business suit digging around in lettuce like Golden Corral ... that needs to be re-thought. I used to take employees & clients there, but the salad bar really put an end to that. I found that to be EXTREMELY disruptive to conducting business. Bear in mind, I'm talking well over hundreds of people per year for lunch and dinner. We've shifted to a famous downtown Creole restaurant that keeps everyone together. Just a couple of days ago, we had 15 people at that place for dinner... the Taste of Texas lost that business SOLELY because of the salad bar. And, if you're on "date" night, I'm betting you will want to avoid it too. Great steaks, and the food is generally above par, but the salad bar, at least for me, is a deal killer. It seems they have lost track of why people go OUT to dinner. I didn't come here to spend $50+ per person and have to go and get things to eat ... If you want to go somewhere where you can talk and mingle, this ain't the place when there's always someone gone scavenging ... and amazingly, it's not the food/service that's the problem with this place, as is the case with most subpar places. In short go for the food, not for conversation/business/dates/family bonding ... That's why it's a star short of five. In summary, a five star steak place with one star food policies ... I'd seriously consider Flemings for the same quality, without the cafeteria atmosphere of T of T, if conversation & relationships are as important as the steaks.

I loved Taste of Texas and can now see why this restaurant comes so highly recommended. Wonderful service, fresh great food and a salad bar that was good as I have ever seen. An incredible variety of fresh greens, vegetables, fruits and breads was very impressive. It was hard to fit on 1 plate. We had the strip and the prime rib which we got to pick the cuts before dinner. My wife and loved our food. The sautéed spinach was also excellent. Green beans were good, baked sweet potato was well cooked but needed more butter as it was a little dry. We split the carrot cake and the snickerdoodle pie. The pie was good, but that carrot cake knocked it out of the park, as good as I live had in white a while. Make sure to make a reservation if possible or you could be waiting for a while.. The place was packed and people were still waiting to be seated as we were leaving at 8:30, although we never felt rushed. Very happy that I was suggested this restaurant.

Great Food, I ordered this for a friend for Thanksgiving because he and his daughter were quarantined. They loved it.

To be my first time in Houston the first few days were difficult trying to eat something truly Texas, I drove over an hour to get to the place with high expectations and I can say it was worth every mile traveled. In addition to the quality of the food, good beer and excellent setting, the young Carson's attention was exceptional and highly informative. Which made a dinner party such an experience. Keep y’all doing that great job!!

I tried to place a "To Go" order for appetizers over the phone from my car. After the girl took my order, she tried to run my credit card. Twice it was declined. I told her "that was strange, as I had just been shopping and used that card." I told her I had cash and Taste and Texas gift cards to pay for the order. She said "Okay, this order shouldn't take long." After hanging up, I contacted Chase Bank to find out why it was declined. Their automated system said it was due to the security code being entered incorrectly. I thought to myself.....twice she made this mistake?? I was 10 minutes away from TOT and drove straight there. I told the girl at the "TO GO" counter what happened, showed her the gift cards, but decided to pay with my credit card that Taste of Texas had declined. I gave a 20 percent tip on the bill "To ensure prompt service" since the girl on the phone told me it wouldn't take long. Now, 45 minutes later from the phone call, I still did not have my "TO GO" food. The girl at the "TO GO" counter told me that the order doesn't get placed until after payment. Now, I am very upset. I could have given the "not so bright" girl that took my phone order my gift card numbers if she would have mentioned the order would not be processed until payment was received. I mentioned the issue to a manager and all he said was "I'm Sorry." They did not deserve a tip and I will never tip their "TO GO" again. They did not even offer a tea while I had this long wait. My husband and I dine here at least twice a month because we are a big fan of their prime rib and will still continue to dine here. Also, every year I purchase $500 worth of gift cards. I order "TO GO" frequently from Eddie V's and they take payment when you pick up your order. Maybe Taste of Texas should change their "TO GO" strategy.

Its ok if you want a brightly lit dining room with over pushy service, and a mediocre salad bar. We went to several Steakhouses while we were celebrating our new year, this one made the not so good list. There are other great options. Vic & Anthony's, Pappas, Steak 48,,,, good but not as great as the first two!

We thought we would celebrate Christmas with friends over dinner at the world-famous Taste of Texas restaurant in Houston. We were informed by restaurant staff that we could make reservations online for December 24. However, the system would not allow us to reserve a spot until 12:01 a.m. on December 10. So we set our alarm to remind us to sign up for a table at one second past midnight on December 10. We waited for the magic moment and as the clock struck midnight, we requested our reservation. The system informed us there were no available tables for our 6:00 p.m. request. In fact, the entire restaurant was booked up for the entire day but we were invited to join a waiting list. Now, in the bright daylight of the December 10 morning, we realize we are the butt of an early April Fool joke perpetrated by the world-famous Taste of Texas restaurant in Houston. How else could one explain the whole establishment being reserved all day within two seconds after midnight? You sure pulled one over on us and it was a good one Ed Hendee. We will not quickly forget it. Maybe we can return the favor soon.

Very cozy and welcoming atmosphere with top notch service. Great salad bar and the steaks are "slap your mamma" good. The prime rib was the best I've eaten anywhere. We will definitely be back next time we are in town.

In order to reduce too much wordiness and provide a simple suggestion and review: Taste of Texas is ; fantastic, perfect, clean, fresh, better and better year over year, consistent, fairly priced, fun ,delightful, best staff, best food. I love this restaurant more and more !!!!!!

The food was superb. Everyone enjoyed their steak, the seafood and chicken dishes were also great. Cocktails were wonderful. They have a excellent wine list. Service was excellent.

We had reservations for 8:15pm and were seated at 8:15pm promptly! The service and food was as always excellent. They were VERY busy but that did not keep our server from being very attentive and taking fantastic care of our party of 4. We will return.

We don't recommend this restaurant at all. It is difficult to get a reservation or talk to them, it's very crowded, there's not enough parking.... although, it is well decorated for holidays. The service is slow and doesn't seem to be very enthusiastic. We were there for a 70th birthday party and had brought some high-level cakes. When we arrived, they said let the servers know when you are ready. Then, when we did, they said we couldn't have them served because they were not from the restaurant. We have only had that happen in one other restaurant in Houston in 30 years. Finally, since we had a big party and spent a lot of money, they put us outside in another area and sliced pieces into take-home boxes for folks to take...couldn't even eat it there. It ruined the party, but the bottom line is that the salad bar is wonderful and so is the bread, but there's tastier steaks in Houston, (especially for the price) with quicker, nicer service. We found them a bit uppity, I'd go around the corner to Texas de Brazil or Sal Y Pimienta...or even Roadhouse for a tastier dinner and good welcome.

Beautiful typical Texan restaurant. We were very well attended to by Natasha T., who gave us a tour of the incredible and huge kitchen, there are countless employees which makes all the difference, super fresh and high quality products. Definitely the most tender meat we’ve ever eaten in our lives! It's worth the experience and the taste of real Texan barbecue, hmmm.

This restaurant is justly proud of its fine and custom cut steaks. We shared a Tomahawk- a monster steak still on the rib- it fed three of us handily. Loved the potato with everything and the quail appetizer - the mushrooms were just ok. Various filets and strip steaks were at our table - all wonderful. However, the décor must be an acquired taste. I gather the owner is responsible for covering every square inch of the ceilings and walls- and lots of people love it. I found it way over the top- and sort of claustrophobic. There are some beautiful quilts that are worth noting- but how about over 200 Santa Claus figures or pictures and another 200 Nutcracker figures. Arrgh! What might be a more relaxing vision during a non seasonal visit is just plain too much. Oh well, it was very crowded so I suppose I am in the minority.. but I would wait until the season was over to go again. PS the waiters were incredibly dedicated and knowledgeable. They love the place- which says some good things about ownership and dedication to excellence.

We will never come here again. We waited 2 hours, sat in their bar waiting for a table, ordered drinks and appetizers. We finally get our table and they tell us, sorry but we don’t allow strollers. Our baby was asleep and they wanted us to take the stroller to the car. AFTER WE HAD ALREADY WAITED FOR 2 HOURS!!!! Bill Clark (likely a fake name) is horrible and has no idea what hospitality is. We have been coming to Taste of Texas for over 10 years and have spent so much money and time (who waits anywhere for 2 hours) but after this experience we will NEVER come back. Who needs a glorified version of Jason’s Deli salad bar anyway? Yuck. I’ve never experienced worst customer service in my life. What a joke.

Great place to visit for a earthy lunch or dinner, and to feel like royalty with the attention from attending personnel. I have been visiting this restaurant since 1998, that I can remember... perhaps before.... A preferred place for my family and company's clients. We just visited last week.... Proud to take in people visiting us from various states from the country... Those visitors, and my family, enjoyed the fanfare of the picture with the cowboy(girl) hat and neck hankerchief for out of state visitors. This last time, 4 weeks ago, when I mentioned to the server my visitors were out of the state ( for the above fanfare) he mentioned that now it was only for out of the country visitors... WHAT AN UNGRATEFUL SURPRISE!! This change is recent... this past December 2024 we visited TASTE OF TX, with "out of the State visitors" and the "fanfafare" was still on. I guest I will have to revise my visits to the T of Tx.... What a shame! The treat for "out of state visitors", food and treatment, made this restaurant so special, at least for us, my out of the state relatives and out of the state clients.

From the service (friendly waitress, picking out your steak yourself) to the really excellent food (I loved the jalapeno cornbread) this restaurant is is must-visit. The food was fantastic, the ambiance was fantastic, - I really had a great dinner here.

Absolutely amazing food, service and the ambiance gives pure Texan vibes. Visiting from Kenya and I love love love this place!!! Will be back before I leave soon.

The quality of the food was horrible. The waiters were great. They tried their best, The top management did not make me feel welcome. This place should be called the Waste of Texas!

This is a place I often go to for a great salad. The soup is also really good. Nice quiet place to be have conversations and meetings

This restuarant is famous for a reason. A must visit for those into steaks. This very popular destination has it's own dedicated parking lot but it can be difficult to find a spot in the evenings. Decor is rustic Texas with authentic artifacts but still business classy. Dining is open and noisy. Business and family patrons keeps it fun. Waiters are knowledgeable and menu is large with generous cuts. Prices on the high side but good value. Included salad bar is huge. Be sure to ask to pick your own steaks where you will be taken to the back (butchery) and can select the cut. Deserts are varied and large. Enjoyable experience and you wont leave hungry. Highly recommended.

Absolutely stunning and filling meal. Our server was extremely attentive and the tastes were completely satisfying.
Really nice steakhouse
Great food, great service with acceptable prices. I had the texas quail bites as starter and the marinated skewer. Both were great. Comes with salad bar and plenty of side vegetables. Paid 130 $ for 2.
