Delicious & Affordable!!

By Snowbabies1 |

Husband and I visited Taste of Thai after a fun filled day at the zoo. Found the restaurant on our way back to the Highway and we weren't disappointed!!! Our server was adorable, so attentive as well as super quick at bringing our food out. We ordered the Pad Thai and Garlic pepper Chicken with brown rice. Both dishes were hot, fresh and fragrant and they were both delicious!! Couldn't fault anything plus a 10% discount when paying cash was a bonus!!! Thank you :)

So-so time at Taste of Thai

By CZLAW |

We recently ate at the Taste of Thai in Carmel Valley for the first time. We encountered some problems that made us doubt whether we'll be back. While the decor overall is nice enough, the closeness of the tables makes personal conversations almost impossible. Our appetizers arrived quickly and were good....but then a long wait began. After twenty minutes, our waiter approached and said the main dishes would be out soon. Another ten minutes passed. Finally, one of the two entrees we had ordered was brought to our table. Again, the waiter said the other would be out soon. Fifteen minutes later, we had finished the one entree and still hadn't received the other. Then, one of the strangest experiences we've ever had in a restaurant occurred. The waiter approached our table and said "We have run out of dishes in the kitchen so can not serve you the rest of the meal. We have put into boxes for you to take with you." No apology, no asking whether we wanted to suddenly turn our evening meal into a takeout session or even whether we still wanted the entree at all. We might have forgiven that, except another ten minutes passed without the take out being brought to our table. Finally, my husband tracked down the waiter and asked for the check and told the waiter to forget about the missing entree. The check arrived with...the missing entree boxed up and still on the bill. All of this left a sour taste in our mouths -- the food we did manage to eat in the restaurant was fine, but didn't make up for the strange service. I've never heard of a restaurant running out of plates to serve food (and they weren't exactly jammed this night either) and, in any case, they certainly could have handled the situation better. I doubt we will return, unless, of course, we want take out (smile).

Disappointed

By karylj2000 |

Went last evening based on recommendation of local friend. Lovely decor, good service, but food was lackluster at best. My duck Choo chi had only whole peas and canned carrots, with overcooked duck. Husband's whole fish was similarly overcooked and unremarkable. Prices were moderate but will not return.

Consistently Good

By sheilasocal |

This place has become our favorite place to go for an evening out when we don't want to spend an arm and a leg. The food is good and the service is very friendly and prompt. The fresh spring rolls are an absolute favorite!!

Love their spicy noodles...

By Zar S |

Love their spicy noodles and Thai fried rice with tofu! Service is on point, too.

First time eating Thai food

By Rick R |

Staff was very nice and helpful with the menu. I definitely enjoyed it. The calamari is die for as were the fresh spring rolls. The menu was extensive and vast. My girlfriend who knows Thai cuisine said it was some of the best she's had.

Great Thai on University Ave

By rickatnyc |

Second visit here. It's one of those places you stumble upon & keep going back when in town. The locals love this place. Service is very good. Great Thai food, prepared the way you like it. Prices are moderate. Indoor and outdoor seating. Great for lunch or dinner.

Thai Up on University Avenue

By Kitty228 |

What a great location: right on University Avenue in the Hillcrest section, steps from Whole Foods and a hundred other places to eat and drink. You'll find white tablecloths with service to match. If you're reading this before the end of May, there's a 20% coupon for both the Hillcrest and Del Mar locations good for 20% off lunch or dinner when you dine in. We recommend the yellow curry with tofu; grilled Thai chicken with sweet and sour sauce; and the prosaic but tasty chicken with broccoli in oyster sauce. They also serve the coldest beer I've had in a long time. Appetizers: wings, fried tofu, tod mun, mee krob, calamari ($6-$9). Salads: larb, Thai sausage, som tum: green papaya with dried shrimp; and yum nuah which is grilled steak, chili, lime and mint ($4-$11). Entrees include your choice of protein with a variety of sauces and vegetables ($10-$14). Curries: red, yellow, green, choochi and panang ($10-$14). Lunch specials weekdays 11:30-3:00 come with soup, salad, spring roll and fried wonton: fried rice any way you want it, noodles ditto, colorful curries, basil hot and sweet. ($5-$10). They pay strict attention to vegetarian requests. Street parking. Since 1989 with gold medallions from the San Diego Restaurant Association; Best Thai from San Diego magazine starting in 1995 and others.

Taste of Thai

By Jim N |

Very Good Dinner, Just Tonight. Soup - Tom Kha Gai was Fine, Shrimp was a Generous Portion, Cooked Well, not Overdone. Ambiance and Service- Really Very Good, I would say TOP Notch! Not Busy Place, Did Not Feel Rushed. Have Had Thai Cuisine at MANY, Many Places, and Taste of Thai is Certainly on par with Most Places that I have had Dinner At. Thanks.

Spice it up!

By tommym2u |

I seem to stop in several time during the week I was in San Diego, nice flavor, good mix and they have a nice lunch combo.

Loved it twice!!

By Traflagar |

So good we went twice. These have a peanut sauce entrée which is too mild ask for it up a notch. I really wanted a peanut curry which they do not do. A better choice was my Red Thai Curry level 4. Marvellous!! You get to chose the heat of your dish a terrific idea. You can park in the Hillcrest public parking. very nice servers. We had a lovely young Thai waitress the 2nd visit.

Great Thai in Bonita

By All-Around-Nice-Guy |

We had dinner at the sister to this restaurant in Bonita. Small but comfortable. House wine decent, generous pour and very reasonably priced. We had Satay Chicken appetizer, classically prepared and very good. For dinner we enjoyed pineapple rice and curry chicken, both excellent. If you like to spice up your food, ask for the spice tray, which consists of four different ways to satisfy your need for "flavor with heat"! A most enjoyable meal!

Disappointing

By kristaleigh76 |

I ordered using grubhub. In my order I asked for no onions in my fried rice, I received extra onions. I asked for extra soy sauce, I received no soy sauce. I also asked for napkins and silverware. I received 1 fork for 2 meals and 1 tiny mini napkin. It was delivered fast and food tasted okay.

Spicy food poor service

By Rajen0303 |

Had vegetarian Thai food, inspire of informing the steward not to prepare hot food, the food was very spicy. When called, they had no courtesy to replace the same with normal food. Restaurant ambience is good, but what is the point if the food is not as you require. Shall not recommend anyone to visit such place.

Perfect Thai

By Bill K |

I am vegetarian. I love good thai food. I had the vegetarian duck. Medium spicy. They do medium spicy perfect. The food was perfect temperature in both ways. Rice was also perfect. How can I get you to stop reading and come here and satisfy your tongue? Oh, I know. Visit their web site and print off the 20 percent discount coupon and present it before you order. Then check in on yelp and get a free thai tea. Just wow.

The best

By marlaher |

As far as I'm concerned, this is the best Thai restaurant in San Diego. The curries are all amazing. Great service!

Simply delisious

By urielrb |

Went for a casual early dinner and had a lovely dinning experience, we had yellow curry, delicious fried curry rice, steak with peanut sauce, thai iced tea... Recommend

Been my fav since 1996! Excellent mee krob and Thai seafood steam boat.

Taste is right

By tommym2u |

The flavor of the food/spices were outstanding, some of the best Thai food I have ever had. The menu has such a large selection that you want to try them all. Severs were helpful in choosing and very pleasant all throughout of dinner.

Tasty Thai at Taste of Thai

By DynamicDeebytheSea |

I have been a regular at this restaurant for decades. I dine in as well as take out. Gets busy on the week-ends so we go early or do take out. I met the owners and one of them is from Thailand. They go to Los Angeles for many of the items they use in their restaurant. They have a second location in Del Mar, which I find to be quite lovely and cozy.

My favorite Thai restaurant

By DynamicDeebytheSea |

I have been eating at Taste of Thai for over a decade. I can't get enough of this place. I get take-out when I don't feel like dining out. The owners regularly drive to LA for specialty items, products, herbs and spices. Fresh, delicious, centrally-located, funky area of town and reasonably priced. They have a lovely sister restaurant in Del Mar which is a bit more fancy. I like both restaurants.

Great place to people watch. Food, a little bland

By Dan S |

Ate dinner Saturday night out on the patio. Great people watching and service. Had soup and spring roles for appetizer. Ok, but not full of flavor. I had pork in peanut sauce w/spinach. Again quite bland in flavor. Price is good but portions are also reflective of price.

Time to eat some Thai!

By StrollMyWorld |

Reservations are a must as this place is busy, the tables are close, and the crowd to get in speaks volumes about the food. The coconut soup, panang curry and the fried fish fillet with chilli sauce are fantastic. We've never had a bad meal here. The only downside is that you have to be ready to have an intimate dining experience -- this place is small and the tables are CLOSE. It can be fun as long as you're in the right frame of mind.

Good food

By VirginiaRose |

I had lunch with a 2 for 1 coupon. It was very good. Had I not had the coupon it may have been a little pricey but it is in Hillcrest, the hotspot of San Diego so they probably pay high rent. Service was good too.

Good Food

By johnmK4883LR |

The food was good and the prices were reasonable. The service was very good and very efficient. I would eat here again.

One of our favorites.

By Michael B |

We've been going to Taste of Thai in San Diego for years and it's still one of our favorites both for the quality of the food and the excellent service. They are most accommodating when it comes to our special dietary requirements (we don't eat onions or garlic) and they prepare our dishes to order taking these into account. This is most appreciated for many places give us brattitude when we mention this need. Our favorite dishes are the Golden Triangles, Yellow Curry and Spinach Rolls. The wait staff is pleasant, attentive and efficient and prices are reasonable.

Average Thai food

By travel2findoneself |

Nothing to write home about... average thai food; nothing remarkably good or bad...good for lunch dates.. avoid the salads on lunch combos - nothing but lettuce with a bare sprinkle of carrots

Friendly service, fresh authentic Thai food

By Michael R |

Great service. Very tasty food. We had a large group of our family here recently for lunch. Everyone loved their food choices. The food was fresh and the heat was on point. We will definitely return here when in the area. If you like authentic Thai food this is a must.

Absolute Worst Thai Restaurant

By xix |

Avoid like the plague. My wife and I love Thai food and have experienced it globally. This restaurant claims the notoriety of being the absolute worst Thai restaurant we've dined at. EVERY dish was horrible! I often order deep fried tofu with peanut sauce and even this was awful. The tofu tasted years old. The ambience was charming yet the service was ingratiating.

Delicious!

By avatb |

The food is always excellent and the service is great as well. They have plenty that a vegetarian like me can eat.

Amazing Food; Pretty Decor; Great Service

By Lisa K |

This place doesn't look like much from the outside, so we were just hoping for great food and not much else. We lucked out - he food Was fantastic! Plus, we enjoyed a really lovely decor with white tablecloths, and very attentive service. The Pad See-iw was one of the best we've ever had and the curry was to die for. The prices at lunch were very reasonable; all dishes came with soup, salad and won-tons.

terrible terrible terrible. Sauces are revolting - i could not believe it was thai food even!

Great food & deal with coupon!

By Travelling_Bubbies |

Can't beat their online coupon offer of buy one get one entree free with purchase of two drinks. We arrived on a Monday evening and we're actually the only diners for quite awhile. The staff immediately perked up and the service was quick. We started with the green papaya salad, which honestly their "spicy scale" of 1-10 is pretty spot on-- we got a 6 and it was definitely hot but still manageable. The pad see ew with chicken is traditional and the broccoli was nice and crisp. What's great about this place is they ask if you want your tofu fried or soft... instead of just assuming fried. The green curry is more brothy/soupy rather than a heavy cream curry so it's nice and light with lots of veggies and your choice of brown or white rice. The mango sticky rice is very different from what we're used to-- it seems like they use a coconut syrup rather than the thick opaque coconut cream/milk. Overall a great dining experience and great food! Will definitely be back!

Especially fresh

By tampatowers |

For our first visit, we stuck to old favorites: fresh spring rolls, pad thai, and brown fried rice with chicken. Everything was tasty, and vegetables and salad were especially fresh.

Spices to Satisfy any Palate

By SOCALGourmet |

From Pad Thai noodles to Yellow or Green Curry with your choice of chicken, shrimp or beef. the menu at Taste of Thai in both San Diego and Del Mar offers wonderful alternatives without flying to Bangkok or stopping in Pattaya or Phuket on a cruise ship. Love the Spring Rolls, fried or fresh, as well as the fried wontons. Very authentic! The owner a chefs seem to have the right balance of spices for each dish so that everything does not taste the same as it does at too many Thai and Siamese restaurants. We also enjoyed the "Lunch Specials at a very fair price with the addition of one fried spring roll, two fried wonton and a fresh salad. Bravo!

Best Thai in town

By Lousybreaks |

To me the best Thai in Hillcreast (San Diego). Very fresh decoration and food. Make sure that if yo do not eat spicy you choose a level inferior to 3 on a scale of 10... the waiter will ask you for your preference anyway.

Horrible Service and treatment to customers.

By Bhash A |

We order two dishes. My wife's dish was very good. i ordered red curry, which was not good. Although I called for spice tray and asked crushed peanuts to add to flavor of my dish. later the waiter charged me for peanuts. When I questioned, that we were not told that there will be charge, he started getting upset and started coming strong at me that for next time please remember. I said I am not going o remember, you should tell me upfront what you are going to charge. To that he started coming more stronger at me and started mocking that why I cant remember. Horrible service. The young lady also did not calm her staff and instead started coming out strong at me.

My favorite Thai in San Diego

By ocea98 |

My mother and I order from here a couple times a month because it is so great. Dining there is lovely too because the setting is very cozy. I believe a family owns/runs it. If you're not feeling too risky or don't know what to order, I would pick the Pad Thai with fried tofu (its a HUGE serving), fried banana and coconut ice cream for dessert, and a Thai tea with boba for a drink (the boba is so fun to eat!) I think it's well worth the price and is perfectly located in downtown Hillcrest.

Mexican eating Thai?

By JOSD04 |

At first I was t sure about the taste. Spicy food is my thing but from a different country IDK! Come here with friend and everyone enjoyed it! My taste buds were off the hook. I tried the Spicy noodles with chicken and the Yellow cold tea (can't recall the name of it). Small place but overall fm great food.

Still good but ... huge ick factor this time

By Lisa K |

This is a follow up review to my 5-star review from last year. The food is still mostly excellent - green curry is fab - but the soup was lukewarm and uninspired. The main reason for the downgrade is that there was a hair fried into the wonton. Huge ick factor! Though I'm sure this happens a lot at restaurants and you just never know. In this situation the veggies were dangling from the wonton by said hair, so no missing or mistaking the origin. The service is still excellent and the white tablecloths without a glass cover makes this one of the classiest looking Thai restaurants in town. I guess I'd go back in a pinch, but there are plenty of other great Asian options in the area.

Wonderful experience

By mjesf |

I haven't eaten here in over a decade. I was reminded how much I liked it when I took a date here for dinner. The Pad Thai was excellent,as was the Tom Yum soup. The service could not be faulted either. . This place is one of my San Diego favorites by a long shot

Wonderful Thai food

By Lainiedavidson |

From the decor to the service, everything about this restaurant is classy. The staff was more than willing to explain the menu items. The sake was heavenly. The entrees we shared were spot on. Woonsen with fish filet, beef satay, drunken noodles, and eggplant all perfection. Not a bad taste on the table. The restaurant is located on a busy street in Hillcrest where street parking is hard to find. But we parked for $5 in a structure around the corner within walking distance.

Many Menu Options

By vagabondginger |

Looking at the menu it was a hard choice with so many great dishes from appetizers, soups and curries to noodles and so much more. I usually end up over ordering and then have too much food so I settled in and got the Roasted Duck Pad Thai Noodles with a medium spice. With it I had a large Singha Thai beer. It was a nice evening to sit at a table on the small front patio and the service was very good. My taste buds were excited and I enjoyed it all. Thai natives opened this location in 1989.

pay cash

By jeff h |

we enjoyed a very dinner at this restaurant the service was good the portions were good, they gave 10% off the bill if you paid cash

Lovely setting and great food

By Cheepdisney |

Made quick decision to have Thai and found this place in a pinch - not sorry at all. Delicious food in a lovely atmosphere. Was seated and served very promptly.

Delicious

By JDSV |

Everything about Taste of Thai was nice: the decor, the very friendly staff and the very tasty food. And great value on top of that. Highly recommended. One minor disappointment was that we were rather late and the restaurant closed at 10 pm. Staff made it quite clear that this was not the time that the doors closed but the time that we had to leave. A bit of a rushed ending to a good Thai meal.

Mediocre and Tastekess

By KireMex |

Must dishes lashed the complexity of flavor you normally find in Thai cuisine. Salmon and chicken in dishes jerked flavor and even standard dishes such add pad Thai and Tom Kha. Only the mussels special was something I could recommend.

Delicious Thai food, lots of vegetarian options!

By Familytravel12 |

This was out third visit to Taste of Thai, and this time we ordered take out! The restaurant was exceptionally busy, but they still made time for our take out order and got it ready quite fast. The food is delicious, and they have lots of vegetarian options. Really friendly service and delicious food!

Good & Affordable

By Cynthia B |

I had the fresh spring rolls, and the wrap was a bit dry as if they had been sitting out for some time. Pretty tasty and worth getting. I also had the sukiyaki soup, which I normally love, but it didn't have the taste or complexity that I get here in my town of Dallas. I was not impressed with it. Service was good and friendly. Certainly not the best Thai that I've had.

We go here all the time.

We go here all the time.

The go to place for Thai for over 20 years!

By mopsos |

Val and her husband, (yes the guy who looks homeless often found smoking at the far outside table is her husband) continue to provide delectable Thai dishes to San Diego. My brother who lived in Thailand does not believe it authentic BUT he also loves the place as the dishes are ample, consistently delicious and offer all the Thai dishes American's expect! They offer great lunch specials at 5.99 and up that include soup and appetizers, and if you visit their website and click coupon you can print out a 20% off deal.

Average Thai Food

By Kevin D |

Not much to write about this place. Everything was very average. Nothing was bad and nothing was great. Service was good. Not familiar with the area since we were on vacation but I’m sure there are better Thai places.

Excellent authentic thai

By Stephen_Alas |

The food and service was brilliant here. I would definitely eat here again. The flavour was authentic, serving size very generous and service was exceptional. Don't miss this one.

Excellent Food & Service

By SEG-lover |

Our family ate at Taste of Thai in San Diego in June and only 2 members had ever had Thai food. Well not anymore. We all loved it -including 2 young teenagers. We had appetizers and 5 different meals and shared among us. We all liked every meal. The restaurant is small but charming. The wait staff was great-very attentive and answered questions happily. Try them. You will be glad you did.

Average food

By flushing66 |

Came here after reading review. A bit disapponited. Went on sunday afternoon, no wait. Nice Decor with white tablecloths but service was slow. Had the coconut soup but found the chicken, onion, pepper to be too chunky. The "Tiger" steak tasted like boil meat instead of broil, a bit chewy, sauce accompanied it was good. The noodle soup tasted more like Vietnamese. So overall was not that impressed.

Best Thai in San Diego

By bostonsig |

If you like great curry and fresh ingredients this is the place for you. The massaman curry is the best I have ever tasted and instead of peanuts they put cashews in (yum!!). What you'll notice here is that every ingredient is top quality and fresh. All the chicken breast meat has been thoroughly chosen well and is perfect! This is rare in any restaurant and the presentation as always is beautiful. The staff is attentive and very quiet and considerate. The decor is modern and yet still gives the feel of Thailand without being tacky.

Decent food.. Excellent service.

By russjh8 |

We arrived right before they closed post lunch. Food was okay, but nothing stood out too much in regards to Thai food. At least the service was good.

Good food and service

By Doug Nix |

We stopped into the Taste of Thai restaurant for our first Thai food experience in a restaurant. We both have serious allergies to seafood, so we were a little nervous, knowing how important seafood generally is in Asian cuisine. We let the server know our concerns, and he Immediately put us at ease, assuring us that they could accommodate our concerns. he even checked to be sure that we could have chicken broth, something that isn't a problem for us, but also something I've never had another server as about. and we ordered a starter plate with spring rolls, samosas, spinach rolls and something else - the vegetarian version of their regular starter. The starter plate also include some wonderful peanut sauce, soy sauce with sesame, and a green chilli sauce. There was a vegetable broth soup as well, which was wonderful. For entrees, I had the spicy red curry with chicken, which also included bamboo shoots, and peas in a coconut milk broth. Normally I like my food hot, but the waiter recommended the mild, and I'm glad he did. The curry was spicy enough without being too hot. My girl had the fried tofu in peanut sauce with mixed vegetables. Both entrees were really good, and the staff was very attentive. Overall, a good introduction to Thai dining. We would definitely recommend this restaurant!

Nice place with good food

By BigA1999 |

I was in the mood for some Thai food so my wife and I found this place. I liked the restaurant and their decor. The service was super friendly and I felt welcome right away. I did go with the specials (duck) as it was recommended but have to say I should have stayed with my curry. The duck was not bad at all just not "top" and I was hoping for more considering that I paid more. If anything was disappointing it was the desert. We had fried banana with ice cream. Fried banana can be made in a simple way of being pan fried with a very light crust or deep fried which makes it just something fried and not nice and smooth. Maybe something for them to consider.

Best. Thai. Ever.

By jeh15343 |

We went here because they had a coupon in a local booklet and we love Thai food. We had no idea we were about to walk into a Thai heaven. The wait staff was so nice, I thought they must've had wings and worn a halo. Our food was so good. The chicken was extremely well cooked, and when I told them I liked my food really spicy, they actually made it that way. Next time we are in San Diego, we will definitely be visiting here again.

Modern authentic US Thai with Thai chef, owner, excellent wine and late kitchen

By JennyInnervision |

Surveying the vast array of Thai and Asian options in cool late night Hillcrest Taste of Thai packed out both lunch and dinner. After very enjoyable first visit it became a regular dining spot. The mix and match noodle dishes were fabulous and the starter salads as good as any I've had in Thailand. Mark and all the staff were great we never spoke to the Thai owner but saw her passing by. They have a second restaurant nearby and as ever owners on site always makes for happy customers. Thanks for having us. Vegas was great but we hope to be back in Hillcrest before too long

Oh wow.

Their Seaood Trio is legendary. Love the food and location. If you are a fan of Thai food and in the San Diego area, I would check this place out.

Tasty authentic Thai food

By Geraldtanak |

Very classy Thai joint with tasty food to match. Pop to their website to check if they have coupon promotions. Had chicken fried rice, red curry duck, spring rolls were all very authentic and tasty. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Street side parking free after 8pm.

Okay, but not particularly memorable

By TCKtraveler8 |

Dined here with a large group for lunch. The server was helpful and the surroundings pleasant. The group consensus was that the food was okay, but not great enough to rush right back.

good food

By maidele |

This place is convenient to many hotels and the food is always good and the service is as well. They aim to please and if you need something special, they accomodate

Good price

By Danielle C |

Came here with friends for lunch. I was a little disappointed. I frequently eat Thai, there are so many in options in San Diego. The lunch special is a good price, but there are other Thai places with better food. The soup served was made with chicken broth, not really what I was expecting. I ordered the green curry, no bell peppers. My curry came with bell peppers. 😔 And.... it was soooo salty. Not sure what happened. The salad served with the lunch had no dressing on it. Just not very impressed, nor were my 2 friends. It has great potential.... but I was disappointed. Try Amarin or Lotus Thai just down the street.

The savory appetizer plate was delicious as was the soup. However, one of our party had the chicken which was dry and her spring rolls were fried, not fresh. My salmon dish with peanut sauce was quite good.

I Love Taste Of Thai

By Princess_Kim |

The service here is top-notch. I usually only order water to drink when eating out, and at some restaurants, water refills have less priority than things like soda because they don't bring in revenue for the establishment. This is not so with Taste Of Thai. I have never had an empty glass of water at Taste Of Thai; the staff is just that good and on top of things. The tables are a bit close together, but to me, that gives the feeling of a packed, hip spot. Taste Of Thai reminds me of a trendy restaurant in Los Angeles or New York, but at the same time, it has the feeling of a small, known-by-the-locals joint. The chicken fried rice is awesome, as are the Golden Triangles. Eat here when you're in Hillcrest.

If this is a taste of Thai... I’m done with Thai

By poochess |

The pork Penang curry was awful. The meat was extremely chewy and I couldn’t swallow it. The curry sauce was so thick it was like wallpaper paste. The pad Thai was bad but not so bad we didn’t take it to go to give to a homeless person on the way back to the car. I would not recommend it at all.

One of our favorites

By qqq266 |

I would say we eat here at least six times a year. We have two favorites, the panang curry and the fried fish fillet with chilli sauce. There are many other delicious choices such as the Thai steak with peanut sauce, the crispy duck, the spicy noodles, etc, but we seem to always return to the two afforementioned dishes. This restaurant also participates in the "Tuesday Night Out" promotion in Hillcrest. For each entry purchased, diners get to choose one of four complimentary desserts. We have tried all of them and our favorites are the fried bananas and the sweet rice with mango. There is outdoor seating, three or four tables, in a sectioned off area right outside the restaurant. I don't prefer it since it is essentially along the sidewalk and only a few feet away from the street (University Avenue).

Good food but would be better if served hot!

By George A |

Having enjoyed a meal here a couple of years ago we were disappointed when our meals arrived and our son's was lukewarm. To give the staff their due they did offer to reheat it but it took the edge off the experience. The food itself was good and very tasty. They cheekily offered a free desert to compensate but as it was free desert night for all clients anyway took a bit of persuading to give us all free coffee instead!!! A case of thinking because we were Brits we wouldn't know that Tuesday is free desert evening!! A bit of not such good service which means we are now unlikely to visit again.

used to be the best thai in town. Got a new chef. Little less fantastic, now.

22 years and never disappointed

By twadecorder |

A great location, nice atmosphere in the Heart of Hillcrest neighborhood. Offers indoor or outdoor seating, dine in or carry out, priced moderately but reasonable for the area and quality of food offered. A complete menu of all the Thai favorites, and a few not so common dishes that I love and cant find anywhere else. The staff is very friendly and attentive and will tailor the level of spice to your liking by asking you how spicy you prefer on a scale of 1-10. They do a great business and always have a happy crowd seated inside and out. There is a reason for that. They are awesome!

Yum!

By fitzclaire03 |

Thoroughly enjoyed the Pad Thai and Spicy Noodle with chicken. Service was excellent. Lunch sides were soup and salad with an egg roll and crab rangoons. Really nice meal.

Very Nice

By dennis y |

Dinner evening with family and friends; the selections on the menu covers practically everything. The entrees were all excellently done; the spice levels, 1-10, are a nice touch; Altho', they tend to mild it down a bit, just for the 'haole' taste buds. The portions are ample and the vegetables are very fresh.

Very authentic and great...

Great Spot!

By BMacSeattle |

Came here while in town visiting. And had been here a few years ago for dinner and remember that there was a wait to get in. This time I made a point to go earlier in the day. This place continues to deliver quality food and quality service. The wait staff works together to make sure everyone is happy. I tried the Thai Steak as recommended by our server Paul and he was spot on. The steak was perfectly cooked and deliciously seasoned. I loved it and I love Taste of Thai. Can't wait to come back when I'm back in town.

Great Thai cuisine

Many unusual choices I have never seen on a Thai menu. I had the Thai sirloin. Delicious. Very popular spot judging by the crowd and the takeout. Suggested by our innkeeper.

High price to quality and nice decoration

Have been there with a girlfriend and my fiancé. Curry tastes very good. Very good price compared with the nice dining environment provided. Highly recommend (but not for Chinese food)!

This is a favourite of my friends that live in the area, and now I know why. Great restaurant in a good location, perfect size to be intimate yet not crowded, outstanding food and lots of choices, very friendly staff and management. This would be a favourite of mine if I lived here too

Nice restaurant with good decor and good Thai food

Parking is tough at this location, but there is at least one public lot within a block or two. Atmosphere and service was very good, albeit food was a bit slow coming from the kitchen (the place was less than 1/4 full when we ordered). The beef panang curry was very good, except that the green beans were fashionably underdone, which we don't like. A new dish for us was braised pork shanks, which was very tasty but overspiced. The third dish for the 3 of us was their version of pad thai, very good with what they called Chinese Sausage, actually lop chong, and seasoned slightly differently than most. Some discounts were available to us, and so the value was better than the average rating given.

My wife and I have eaten here many times. Our first time we even ordered double so we could have leftovers the following day. If you want Thai then this is the place

Very good Thai food

This was the first time I had tasted Thai food, I enjoyed it very much. I did not get anything that was spicy, but it is available. I couldn't tell you what I ordered, because my 3 friends and I all got something different and shared. We all had a portion of each item on our plates and the mixtures were very enjoyable.

Good

Great dinner!

The wife and I decided to try this restaurant as Thai food is one of our favorites since visiting Thailand a couple of times in the late 80's. We were not disappointed; I had one of their specialty meals - Penang Curry Duck with their normal spiciness level and it was delicious. It's served with 1/2 duck veggies including broccoli and of course the Penang Curry sauce. We also took advantage of their Happy Hour beverage & appetizer options available between 5-7 PM.

So. Much. Flavour!

Title says it all. Great value, nice decor, attentive but non intrusive service and food packed with flavour. We will be back!!

Dinner with family during my bday ! Tom yum soup was the best I had tasted compared to all the other tom yum soups I had in other Thai resto ! presentation was great as well as flame was coming out of the pot! Ordered spring rolls, chicken vegetables, pad thai and ducd dish ! Was plesantly surprised my daughter loved the duck dish ! It was a really great small restaurant but quite pricey !
