Enjoyed the variety offered by a whole series of small plates! Loved the food. Reminded me of what we ate while traveling in Turkey! The flavors were incredible and everything was cooked to perfection! Thank you for an amazing meal!

Taxim is definitely a "5" in terms of décor and atmosphere. Food is a respectable "4" and service a slightly regrettable "3." Parking is an issue, so if you're an out-of-town traveler, take a 5-minute cab ride from the Miracle Mile area (there are plenty of cabs to take you back), and if you're a local, plan to walk a few blocks from parking (and some areas don't look all that safe for leaving one's vehicle). There's a lot of terrific Greek food places in Chicago, and some have better food... but overall, I'll tip the hat to Taxim for best overall experience.

The meal was overpriced for its level of quality, and portions were very small, more like a snack. The flatbread was uninspired for $14 with only 3 slices. Finding a parking spot is, of course, nearly impossible, like everything in the neighborhood. You'll be frustrated and in a bad mood before you even sit down. It's pretty easy to just drive right by it, blink and you'd miss it. They need better signage. The food is authentic Greek I suppose, but the waiters were not helpful in explaining or pronouncing the dishes. Getting a wine recommendation was like pulling teeth. A frustrating process. It was not an easy-going or happy dinner.

I live in Chicago and have had the experience to dine in many of my city's fine restaurants. And while Taxim restaurant is located in a popular part of town, I would not recommend this restaurant to any of my friends and I hope you read this review and save yourself some money. There is very little tradition regarding the Greek cuisine. I'm a fan of experimentation and fusion but this place misses the mark. The prices are outrageous! $14 for a bowl of soup full of bottom feeding fish. They substitute Greek words in so the customer doesn't quite understand what they are eating. For example, they use the word Porgy for fish but Google it and you will see that this is a bottom feeding fish. The flaming cheese appetizer consists of six small pieces of breaded cheese for $12. I ordered the fish gyro and it was served like a fried burrito cut into pieces. While I am happy to pay for a unique experience or exceptional food I consider this neither. This is a run-of-the-mill restaurant overcharging its customers. If you're in Wicker Park I'd suggest you try something more unique.

SO this restaurant was highly recommended. BUT i was so disappointed. I will say our waiter was great and on it all the time! I only drink chardonnay wine and they had none, not a glass, not a bottle. we ordered saganaki . Normally it is thinly cut and comes to the table where the waiter lights it on fire and everyone says OPA. I come from a Greek family so I understand that is very American, so I was very open to other ways. This restaurant brought it out like little mozzarella sticks that were cold and unappetizing..least it could of been hot with the cheese melted. We had the fried cauliflower which was decent. I order the sea bass, after asking our waiter which was better, the lamb chops or sea bass...I ordered the sea bass. I have never seen sea bass served filet style, like a filet.... it was dry and tasteless. I did try my friends lamb chop-very tasty. also tried another Greek cousin's lamb shanks...just ok (she agreed) Pita bread that came was very thick, cold, not grilled or even warm. The restaurant space was very cool but the food not so cool. I will not go back.

Fantastic food. Lamp gyro is delicious. Eggplant appetizer the best ever. Great drinks. Service very attentive and prompt. Only issue was that they ran out if beet salad.

Waitress recommended what she said was dry white and turned out to be sweet- that's the bad, the good is that she took it back (no charge) and replaced it with something else. As the appetizers kept coming (we ordered a lot) each was better than the last. Okra, artichokes, eggplant, sardines, greens, yum yum. Sadly the mains were a bust. I ordered the duck gyros and my friend the fish gyros. They were greasy, dry, tough and besides not being what we expected (didn't expect a gyros to be inside a deep friend bread roll) they just weren't good. Big disappointment after the mezzo we began with. My advice: stick to appetizers and skip those mains.

Taxim just provided one of the best meals I have EVER had in my life! And it’s extra impressive that I can say that about delivery, which we got due to the pandemic, without even having eaten inside the restaurant. I’ve been wanting to try this place for over a decade, and since I moved away from Wicker Park, I kept forgetting about it whenever we wanted a nice dinner out. I’m so sad I’m just now trying it. We did a bunch of small plates, and there wasn’t anything that didn’t completely wow us. Even if you’re not prepared to spend the amount of a nice dinner out, you could easily go there and get a couple of the cheaper small plates and walk away full. Their portion sizes are really good. This is now one of my favorite restaurants in the city. Seriously, go here!

A group of friends visited Taxim. The experience was terrific. The food as outstanding, Greek regional dishes and wine. The octopus was exceptional. The staff was attentive and the owner /chef David was full,of information about the wine and dishes it made the visit memorable. Homemade highly recommend visiting.

Taxim is both a neighborhood spot and a worthy destination restaurant. You won’t find Greek-American standards here; you will find regional specialties, creatively prepared. Soups, salads, mezédes (small plates), and full-sized entrees feature seasonal ingredients. The vegetable dishes really stand out, as does the fish. Servers are happy to guide guests in selecting from the all-Greek wine list. Tips: - This place is not ideal for solo dining. There’s no bar and I felt isolated at my small table next to a pillar. - There’s an excellent selection of vegetarian dishes. Vegans will be happy too – most dishes that contain feta or other dairy would be just as delicious without.

Though I almost walked right by the restaurant (my wife did, since I dropped her off because parking is very tough in the neighborhood), my wife and I were very pleased with the food and the design of the space. It is named for a square in Istanbul, though most of the food is clearly Greek. We started with tzatziki, yogurt with cucumbers, dill, olives and pita - quite refreshingly good. We then shared the fried cauliflower, which was also delicious. My wife had the duck gyro, which she liked, but I found a bit fatty and not very tasty. The dessert, loukoumades (fried dumplings), which we've had in many places in Chicago and In Greece, was outstanding.

We drove 15 miles from the suburbs to eat at Taxim on the advice of a friend and we are glad we did! The menu consists of small cold plates, small hot plates, and mains. This is Greek/Mediterranean fare, but with a creative twist. Our waiter did an outstanding job of explaining the menu and making recommendations. We found the vegetarian items to be exceptional, but my favorites were the grilled chicken, pork shoulder, and octopus. Taxim is a great place to for two or for a large group of friends. The food is ideal for sharing. Our group of six shared 8 small plates and two mains -- more than enough food and very reasonably priced. The chef, David, is a Chicagoan whose mother is Greek. He spent his summers in Greece where he developed passion for Greek and Mediterranean cooking. He worked in several Chicago restaurants before opening Taxim. You are likely to meet David, he likes to talk food with his customers. We will be back soon!

While this is a Greek restaurant, the chef is just an excellent cook who uses Greek food as an opening to great dining. Many of the dishes were familiar but lighter and delectable. I loved the whole fish and the duck confit is indescribable but amazing. The best was last --a lemon custard in phylo dough and that was ethereal. I wish I lived in Chicago and could eat here again and again. Its a little pricey buy you get what you pay for.

I love Taxim -- they make everything from scratch down to the pita bread, and they take Greek food to a level rarely seen in the states. Insane seafood, duck gyros will blow your mind.

The noise was incredibly loud, 65 -90 decibels. If there is reincarnation I want to come back with a loud voice so I can be a shouting pain in restaurants. Why do people have to shout at the top of their lungs? It was a long office party table so I guess they were celebrating something but the restaurant should have a private room for such events. I had to put my hands over my ears most of the time because the noise was actually painful. And the food was unimpressive. Any small Greek/Mediterranean style shop has tons more taste. The taramasalata (spelled different ways on menu and receipt. Not sure which is correct) looked like canned roe were tossed on packaged hummus, not mixed to pink perfection. Menu said mullet roe but could have been salmon. Also had a flatbread. Drinks very expensive about $15 a pop and didn't have my choice. I think Wicker park has become a Division Street of restaurants. Had better experience when the Busy Bee was there. Post Yuppie Millennial wasteland. Very uncomfortable place.

Attracted by the menu on the door and we weren't disappointed. Inventive menu and good prices. Started with delicious marinated beets on walnut skordalia, followed by artichoke, carrot and fava bean salad and finally half a tender roast chicken with roasted kipfler potatoes and finely sliced preserved lemon. Finished by sharing some Loukamades. Service was friendly and efficient. Will definitely return to try some of the dishes we didn't order.

The heated rooftop dining space at Taxim is beautiful! I visited to have dinner and catch up with old friends, so the rooftop was a great alternative to the rather noisy main dining area. The food was delicious. It took a while to get our main courses, but our server told us ahead of time so it was no concern. The fried cauliflower and octopus small plates were especially fantastic!

A Wicker Park staple that never disappoints Four of us came for a leisurely graze thru Taxim's Mediterranean specialties. Everything was superb - service was professional and warm. Although I am not ordinarily a fan of Greek wines we had a nice selection of varietals that went well with the food. We ordered an array of small plates and starters - the okra and sun-dried tomatoes were to die for. We will be back.

The rooftop patio was lovely at night. The service was wonderful. The menu was original and delicious. If you want to try fresh Greek inspired food this is the place.

Our group of 7 was very excited to go to Taxim. However, wish i would have paid attention to some of the reviews and so many disclaimers this restaurant has, such as - you are stuck with what you ordered. Service started OK but there was a definite attitude after a while when we were ordering . I think the waitress realized this and was much better afterwards. The apps were very good. We had eggplant and garbanzo dips, delish, brussel sprouts (on the house due to a kitchen mistake) octopus and pork belly - no complaints there. The issue was with the entrees. Two of our dishes were gyros, fish and duck. I never saw a gyro like that - fried like an eggroll with no description that indicated that on the menu. On top of that even though the menu said spit roasted sea bream, because it was fried just tasted fishy, no spit roast taste. We also ordered the roasted chicken which was very dry - have been to many greek restaurats in greece, New York and Miami and chicken is always lemony moist with great roasted skin. This rendition was just dry and not much taste. The two dishes that was good were the lamb chops and the eggplant.

We arrived at 7, ordered at 7:15, received our wine at 7:30. Small plates began to appear around 8:00. Our shrimp dish finally came around 8:30. When the octopus still hadn't come by 8:50 (despite our having asked about it), we decided to call it quits. The food is good, the roof-terrace is pleasant, but the interminable wait without any apparent concern for our well being from the wait staff more or less spoiled what could have been a wonderful evening. This was a Wednesday evening when there was no one in the downstairs restaurant and the roof terrace was approximately 2/3 full. In other words, the place could not claim to have been too busy to provide minimally good service.

The food at Taxim is generally good. It's not a typical Greek restaurant with flaming saganiki and murals of the islands on the walls. It's small and the ambiance is pleasant, not too loud, not too quiet. The green lentil dish was excellent. And the house-made pita accompanying some dishes was also top-notch. Other dishes were a bit lacking (the watercress/chard/halloumi dish was too greasy, for instance). The leek/phyllo dish was really tasty, but quite heavy. Service was friendly, but spotty. At first the dishes came one right after the other - really kind of rushed. But when it came time to pay the bill, no one was around. We had to go up to the front desk to get and then to settle the bill. We also had the hookah -- at $30 ($18 for a refill!) it is waaay overpriced and of quite poor quality. You are better off going to the store across the street and buying your own.

this is in the wicker park area but it was amazing! The food was great but make sure you make a reservation. definitely recommend this location for dinner.

If the weather is accomodating, there are fewer places to eat that are more charming than Taxim's rooftop. The "L" in the background, the hanging lights, the chronology of big events in Greek history. It all works. We ordered the yogurt, onion/mint olives with pita, the horiatiki salad, octopus, and souvlaki. To compliment that, we ordered a Greek red wine which was very tasty. It was $15 a glass for a tiny serving. Limited selection by the glass to promote bottle sales! The salads were excellent though the Feta lacked flavor and was a very small serving. The Octopus was excellent and was perfect for sharing. The souvlaki was good but compromised by a couple pieces that were like shoe-leather with excessive grizzle. Service was kind and efficient, and the owners were gracious. I would eat there again but probably find an alternative to the pork.

This is not a Gyro restaurant. It's the real thing in Greek cuisine. The octopus was perfect. The lamb chops delicious and the Sea Bass melted in our mouths. The lemon and seasoning was special on all dishes. We've been to Greece a number of times and Taxim could be in Athens. Oh the wine list was super! Enjoyed it fully. Service was just fine. This isn't fast food and they took the time to prepare it well!

Dinner at Taxim was excellent. This is not your average gyro spot and the food is cooked and spiced to perfection. We enjoyed the grilled octopus, lamb shank and duck gyros, all of which were out of this world good. The lamb was moist, tender, and rubbed in a fantastic concoction of spices, served over an orzo that had me scraping the plate. The duck gyros were exceptional (albeit, like most duck, a little fatty), enveloped in a thin gyro shell and served over a thick and hearty tzatziki sauce and served with duckfat french fries. For dessert, we had baklava, which I also highly recommend. We will definitely return to this neighborhood gem.

The location is very pretty. You can try a very good lamb and chicken. The waiter was really nice and kind with us. We listened good Greek music. If you like Mediterranean foods that's the right place to go.

We stumbled upon this excellent restaurant and were lucky enough to be seated without a reservation on a Friday evening. To start…. the wine was delicious and eggplant appetizer and grilled beet salad were wonderful! We shared multiple small plates and also the grilled chicken and everything was great. Service was also terrific. I highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely go back the next time I'm in Chicago.

We ordered a few small plates and salads, they were all tasty. From small plates (mezedes) the octopus and Cypriot-style pork sausage were good. It is difficult to find a good octopus in the US anyway, this was cooked well. Peynirli and – Politiki-style wood fire-roasted eggplants were delicious. My favorite at the end was the warm chocolate semolina cake, but the ice cream was smelling like a sheep :( We tried 4 different Greek wines, they were all good. Except the expensive dessert wine which was like pekmez :( Dont get it!! It is a nice place to have a romantic dinner, or with a big group. There is greek music on the background but not good quality ones I guess, but it does not bother you very much.

The turlú without feta is fully vegan and fully amazing. To round out the meal, the kolokithokéftedes (squash fritters) and the agináres me koukia (Politiki-style vegetables) are also vegan. But I would go back just for the turlú any day.

We had a reservation on a Saturday night and we were seated immediately. Unfortunately, no one came to our table for almost 15 to 20 minutes, and we had to try and wave someone down about 5 times. I will have to give all credit to the hostess, she was ultimately the one who noticed no one ever came to our table and let them know, and she was very kind and apologetic. Once our waitress did come over, she barely said a word, never apologized, and just acted like "well, aren't you ready to order?". The food was excellent, we had 2 different appetizers, and both of us had the lamb shank. It was very good. At this point it's now close to 11pm, and there are people clearing out the back half of the restaurant (next to our table) to set up a large amount of DJ equipment and speakers... I guess it turns into a nightclub later? It was like we weren't even in a nice restaurant anymore. We actually had to walk our check up to the front to pay because our waitress didn't come back. I'm giving Taxim a 3 because of the good food, otherwise I would have rated it a 1. The rest of the experience was absolutely horrible, and sadly because of this I will probably never come back here, nor will I recommend it to friends. there are too many wonderful restaurants in this city to choose from, especially for the price.

This place was such a surprise, the food was everything we wanted and more! Would recommend the French toast or the gyro eggs Benedict. The Bloody Mary was decent too. Not too expensive, no wait and quick/friendly service. Will defo be returning here to try out their dinner menu.

I love Greek food. Not often do I find such interesting flavors and freshness. All of the dips/sauces are made here (skordalia, chick pea, eggplant, etc). The octopus is simply a must have dish- amazing. So very tender and flavorful. Like sitting on the dock in Paros. This is not your typical Greek spot. The gyros is duck or fish!!! Very interesting wine list with fantastic Greek wines as well (not retsina, though they have some). Come and be blown away with the fresh delicious Mediterranean flavors! Definitely a return visit.

Look for Jimmy Johns as this restaurant has a difficult to find, single door. Look for street parking even if 3-4 blocks away; the neighborhood is very interesting and eclectic. The duck dish with french fries was out of this world. The portion was large and I consumed all of the duck rolls easily due to the exquisite taste. My partner thought the lamb was amazing. The mix of flavors and sauces were extremely tasty. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. The tables are very close together, and the restaurant is very loud. The atmosphere is fun with and lively. It did not interfere on our date conversation. This restaurant experience made for a wonderful evening.

Super delicious menu and quality of food ,fresh tasty Mediterranean Greek and Turkish themed restaurant with great selection especially Greek wines, white stavlos 2016 is definitely a great choice if you like something different. We have been to this restaurant twice and it keeps satisfying our taste senses

This restaurant was recommended by a friend who has traveled extensively in Greece and has a Greek husband. She said it was like a nice restaurant in Athens (versus a more casual place with lots of traditional Greek dishes--Greek Islands is the best option in Chicago for that kind of meal). I've been twice, and the food was excellent both times. The dishes are interesting and unique.

Went out to dinner with a business colleague and found this place on Trip Advisor. I LOVE Mediterranean food, but my colleague was less familiar. The food was excellent and we both loved it. She got lamb kabobs, and I got the duck gyros. We started with some dips and pita. All of it was especially good. I highly recommend. Not to mention, it was in, what appeared to be, a somewhat off the beaten path section of town, but it was cool and had some other really nice spots nearby.

The food was good but it took a long time to come out. Many of the plates were very small, so I felt the price/value was out of whack. Service was good for a group of 8.

David has done something marvelous with deeply researched authentic Greek cuisine... The sea bass with dandelion greens was exceptional, and the white wine from Santorini was clear clean and crisp like the seashore on the beach at dawn... Lovely staff and gorgeous mellow Greek and Arabic music helped create a wonderful mood...

I am amazed that this place doesn't get more recognition. Serving up sophisticated Greek and Mediterranean food in a cozy setting. Service is always attentive and knowledgeable. The food is consistently great

I ate at Taxim for an early Saturday evening dinner with family. Though a long-time favorite of my sister (we are Greek) I was a first time diner. I am generally a traditionalist where my Greek food is concerned, but this restaurant's unique twist on the foods I grew up with simply blew me away. First, it is NOT your traditional Greek restaurant. Don't come here looking for roast lamb, pastitsio, moussaka and a basic Greek village (horiatiki) salad. The chef/owner (David Schneider) is from a Greek family with roots in Constantinople. The cuisine of the Greeks from Asia Minor is quite different from the food commonly associated with standard Greek cuisine as it incorporates different spices and herbs. We selected a variety of appetizers and all were extraordinary. The Pantzaria me Karydoskordalia (roasted beets with Thracian-style walnut skordalia) was my favorite. I also highly recommend the Htapodaki sti Schara (wood grilled octopus with fennel and red onion), the Revithia (a delicious chick pea spread served with a homemade pita-like bread) and the Politiki Melitzanosalata (a spread made from wood-fired eggplant, sesame and spices). I had the lamb gouvetsi style (listed on the menu as Arni Yuvetsaki me Kritharaki). This is a braised lamb shank cooked in a terra cotta roaster and served with orzo and sheep myzithra cheese. I sampled my sister's duck gyros (made from spit roasted dick breast and leg rubbed with pastourma spices and served with mint yogurt, Pontian satz bread and a pomegranate reduction). It was flavorful, but simply not what I would have chosen as an entree. My brother-in-law was delighted with his Paidakia (wood grilled lamb chops served with grilled lemons). The wine selection includes some of the finest wines being produced in Greece today and many are international acclaimed such as some of the offerings from the Mercouri Estate. There are many excellent choices and if in doubt, the wait staff is very knowledgeable. The desserts were disappointing after such an extraordinary meal, but that did not detract from my overall rating. As noted by others, parking is available only on the street and spaces are at a premium. Contrary to some of the other reviews posted, I found the wait staff to be friendly and attentive. The service was excellent. This restaurant is best suited for adults and I do not recommend it for children.

First visit to this Greek restaurant based on good reviews…and it was fabulous! This is not your typical Greek restaurant menu. Dishes hail from different areas of Greece…dishes you may have experienced elsewhere are prepared a bit differently. Egg lemon soup included small chunks of meat and lots of herbs. Tzatziki was thick and flavorful.; Taromasalata was light and flavorful…not overly fishy or salty; both came with light fluffy homemade pita. Homemade phyllo stuffed with leek and herbs with a side of goat cheese was exceptional. Shrimp grilled and wrapped in grape leaves was a new tasty twist on standard Greek fare. Duck gyros were lean, flavorful and lightly fried. Outstanding! This was our first visit but definitely not our last!

have dined at Taxim many times with friends and family even had carry out a few times and the food has been consistently amazing. Being from Greece we are usually a bit strict when it comes to assesing greek restaurants, here every dish is a win win and we have tried just about everything. Traditional dishes have been upgrated with a modern, healthier, simpler twist and other dishes from various regions in Greece have been introduced to Chicago HIghly recommend to see another side of Greek cuisine that embraces its eastern roots as well!

One of my favorite restaurants in all of Chicago because of its fantastic service (the staff goes out of their way to make each dining experience spacial and memorable) excellent quality food and great energy! If you're looking for hearty fresh tasting food. The decor is cozy and warm on a cold winter night.

Excellent Greek food, with many regional delights. There is a good selection of wines from different regions within Greece as well. The atmosphere and decor is also great with the lighting reminding me lights for sale in the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul. Overall the regional selection is great, many Greek restaurants around seem to specialize in aprticular region, while Taxim has dishes from all over.

My wife - who is Greek American - and I were visiting Chicago this past weekend. We wanted Greek food and our friend recommended Taxim. The menu represents a much bigger variety of Greek regional cuisines than any other restaurant we have ever eaten at. The waiter was knowledgeable about wine and recommended a tasty retsina. My wife went wild ordering half the menu (lots of mezedes), the most memorable were the octopus (fantastic!), pork belly, lamb chops, peppers, artichokes. We will definitely return and hope the chef will part with the octopus recipe! Also rooftop is gorgeous. Downstairs is pretty but looks like a church.

This restaurant was wonderful! The menu is full of unique dishes, the decor is gorgeous, and the service was outstanding. We had three starters because we wanted so many and couldn't decide. The fried mussels and sauce were delicious! We had the duck gyros and braised lamb for our main course. The braised lamb was the best I've ever had! I almost ate half of my partner's. The duck gyros were unique and good, but I would go with one of the lamb dishes next time. And there will definitely be a next time since we go to Chicago several times a year.

I love my first vibe from the moment when I come inside of this restaurant. Music. Roof patio!!! Just love it. Appetizers are fantastic. And during the chef tried to catch a sea bass and cooked it we drank a very cool taste Red Merlot!!! Ok..... finally, after 30 min - sea bass fish - it's not the best sea bass that I eat in my life - too much oil. And also I think it's over priced for that quality - $35. I really do love the baked potato!!!!! Taste really incredible!!! Love it so much!!!

Started out slightly disappointed, since the rooftop seating I requested via Open Table when I made my reservation wasn't available despite having booked several weeks in advance. Main dining room was fine if nothing special and pretty noisy. Food was good but not great. Prices pretty reasonable for what you get and the service was both friendly and efficient. Perfectly decent experience, but given that restaurant options in Chicago (including in this up and coming area) are great and getting better all the time, I don't expect to be returning.

Went over with another couple for Greek food, not knowing it was going to be excellent for tapas. What a great surprise. We ended up ordering three cold smalls, three hot smalls, and two entrees. Everything was better than we expected! There wasn't a piece of pita or duck left at the end of our meal. The options are definitely Greek...I've never been to Greece, but they seemed quite authentic. The service was amazing; our waiter went over each option, knowing that the average person is not fully versed in Greek specialties. Thank you. Also, he was able to go through the wine menu and help us select two bottles of Greek red. We were impressed and pleased every step of the way. The bill was 230 for a table of four, including the two bottles of wine (not including tip). Highly recommended. Also--don't avoid the chicken entree because it seems like the "opt-out" on the otherwise exotic menu. It was delicious, and everyone at the table ended up fighting over it in the end!

We dined here on a recent Monday night and the dining room was rather empty. On a busier night, I expect the dining room would have been rather loud. But the decor was warm and pleasant, and the copper-clad tabletops added character. Our server was efficient and knowledgeable, and guided us through the menu. We selected a handful of "small plates" which were served tapas style, and each selection was unique and tasty. It seemed everything was house-made with skill and care, and we were very happy with our meal and glass of white wine. But it cost us over $50 each, plus tip, so I have to say that I won't be back for a long while. Nevertheless, I was glad to experience this Greek food that went far beyond the mundane dolmas, etc. that I'd expected.

I love Greek cuisine. Although I am not of Greek ancestry, I grew up as a next door neighbor of a wonderful Greek couple. By virtue of their generosity and their culinary pride we often ate Greek, and as a high school student I worked in their restaurant. Taxim, however, is not an old fashioned Greek-American restaurant like our neighbors' or like the restaurants one finds in Chicago's Greek Town. Taxim is contemporary. It offers patrons dishes like they might find in a top-notch restaurant in Greece today. For Sunday dinner a couple of weeks ago I had the best lamb shank ever braised the ancient way in terracotta. Other family members enjoyed spit-roasted duck breast, smoked pork belly served with caramelized onions, and tender octopus accompanied by grilled fennel and red onions. Everyone tuck in, all of us exceptionally happy with the quality of ingredients and preparation. We left the wine selections to our waitress and were well pleased with her choices. However, table service was not well organized. Main course dishes arrived one at a time with as much as 5 minutes between them. That sort of thing can definitely dampen spirits, but we took it good-naturedly. Service issues aside, I nominate Taxim as Chicago's best Greek restaurant

We love Greek food which never means a Gyro sandwich shop...we found this after a search of Greek restaurants in Chicago and were beyond thrilled with the food and the service. The wine list was exemplary - while many Greek restaurants carry a bottle of Retsina, Taxim had a GREAT bottle (for the uninitiated, it's really an oxymoron to have a GREAT bottle of Retsina!) and the rest of the meal was delectable. While the restaurant was a bit noisy, we sat up front and had great service with a view of the street. I'd make this a "first stop" on our next trip to Chicago. PS DON'T miss the octopus or the lamb chops - spectacular!!!

It appears to be a very small place but it's quite a bit larger, including a lively outdoor rooftop section. It's up a long staircase but worth it. The food and drinks were well prepared and James was right on time with the service. We ordered a series of small plates which are a good way to try Taxim's choices. It was a bit noisy and parking is a nightmare. The neighborhood is lively and mixed.

If you like Mediterranean food, this is the place to go in Bucktown/Wicker Park. The food is consistently outstanding and I always look forward to my next visit. It can get busy, so reservations are needed to secure a table in the evening.

If you blink you might pass it....the only sign is written on the wall by the door. But Taxim is a restaurant that is worth stopping for. Eclectic menu, fabulous service and great wine selection. The waiter graciously explained the dishes and recommended pairings. The menu is perfect for sharing.

We arrived without reservation early evening. The service was excellent, delivering the courses very efficiently and responding to all our needs. One of us is a coeliac and adjustments were made to the elements in each course to provide good gluten free options. We enjoyed all the food, especially the sea bream.

We started with several little plates, including eggplant with pita, cauliflower, octopus, prawns, cheese spread with pita--each one superb. I ordered Souvlaki; my friends ordered lamb shank and more little plates. Even the pita was extraordinary. Our waiter recommended drinks and wine per our preferences. He was right on each time.

... and that's saying a lot! This is not your typical Greek place. "Byzantine/Ottoman cuisine for the 21st century" would be a better label, if that didn't sound so meaningless. Most of their dishes are meze, the eastern-Mediterranean version of tapas. Over the course of several visits, we've ordered most of the small plates on their dynamic menu and never been disappointed. The "Chicagopita" is a particular favorite, as is the roasted eggplant dip. Among the big dishes, we've only tried the lamb, and it was some of the richest, most flavorful meat I've ever had. I've spent many months in Greece, Turkey, & Syria, and a visit to Taxim makes me feel like I'm happily back on that side of the world. The service and decor are also spot on. It's a tad overpriced, but not nearly so much as every other restaurant in this neighborhood. It's also a bit less crowded ... like a little oasis from the hustle of Wicker Park, but just a few doors down from Myopic bookstore. Don't let the lack of a big sign deter you! The service and decor are also spot-on. Order a bunch of small plates from their dynamic menu

Authentic Greek food with fine and rare Greek wines by artisanal producers. I ate here a year ago and it's still excellent. And very popular with locals. Beware that on weekends it is crowded and the noise level can be high due to the acoustics.

If I could give 3 1/2 stars i would as I was torn between 3 and 4. The food: We thought the food was quite tasty. They have many small plates, which we enjoy, making it easy to try a number of dishes. We ordered 4 small plates and 1 main dish and thought all were very good. The only offer Greek wine which wasn't a negative for us but if you require an extensive wine list this isn't the place for you. Service Service was definitely spotty. I know that's subjective but we are laid back eaters and don't expect too much from anyone. It definitely took way too long for anyone to even acknowledge that we were seated. After finally getting water, it was another 5 minutes before our waiter finally came over...Definitely not all his fault as he was working hard all night, perhaps they just need more servers. Staff definitely very friendly and were well versed in the menu. Food service was ok. First two small plates came out and then the next two came out....then there was a looong wait in which at one point we wondered if perhaps they hadn't understood that we ordered an entree as well. Finally it arrived and it was very good. Atmosphere I have never been in a restaurant this loud. We had a table for two and were literally almost shouting at each other in order to hear. We are not old either, lol. Tables are also very close together. However, it is a nice dining room. I just wouldn't go here for a romantic dinner.

Super torn about my rating, but gonna go right in the middle. However, I do believe I will be back and truly hope to be able to increase the amount of stars for this place!!! We ventured to Taxim this past weekend after seeing it on a recent episode of Check Please. The videographer (or whatever they may be called) did an amazing job of making this place look GINORMO. It is not. It is quite small. We arrived early, as we always do, and planned to sit at the bar for a couple of drinks before dinner. There is a bar, but no seating and it would just be awkward to kind of stand and hang out....not really that kind of set up. So, we ran across the street for a pre dinner drink and then popped back over in time for our reservations. The hostesses at the front were super nice and friendly and sat us right away. The waitress we were assigned was super nice and very informative for us newbies. We opted to start with a drink a piece, Fakes Kas. Frossos (lentils), and the Htapodaki sti schara (grilled octopus). The lentils came and I thought they were delicious. My husBAND is not a lentils fan so I basically ate them all myself. The octupus still had not arrived by the time I finished the lentils. Weird. We then both ordered the braised lamb shank. Our entrees arrived and the octopus still had not arrived. We let the food runner know who went and alerted our waitress. She came over and explained that the particular station that handled the octopus had gotten backed up. No worries. We ate our entrees...which were very good. The octupus appetizer still had not arrived. They came by to clear our plates and another waitress/hostess asked if we wanted a dessert menu and another drink. This was exactly 1 hour into our dinner. This was the first time anyone asked us if we wanted a 2nd drink...also we had to inform her that we were still waiting on our appetizer so we would skip the dessert. The octopus finally arrived and was super freaking delicious. Our waitress did have the octopus removed from our bill which was very nice of her considering we devoured it. So, in summary, this is not a destination restaurant where one might opt to spend multiple hours hanging out with friends and chatting, drinking, and eating the night away. It is, however, a restaurant with VERY good food. The service seemed a bit off the night we were there, but I wouldn't say it was bad...just kinda slow. We will definitely venture back in, but will come during a time when it's not a rush dinner time.

We split a bunch of small plates and a couple of main courses. Everything was so delicious, and the staff was competent and friendly. Loved it.

From the waiter who looked like he had not bathed in a month to the terrible tasting food that is supposedly Greek, horrible experience. Stay away if you’re serious about good, clean and fresh food.

Had dinner here with friends on June 22, 2014. Being Greek, I've had Greek food all my life. However....this restaurant, courtesy of its innovative and creative owner, takes traditional Greek cuisine to a whole new level by adding new combinations, new tastes, new sauces, and providing very renditions of classic recipes. The meal was most reasonably priced--under $140 for our two persons with drinks and dessert--and just outstanding. I wish I could give this restaurant 6 starts instead of only 5. It really deserves to be in the pantheon of Greek restaurants in Chicago. Instead of the same old tired menus, same commercial Greeks tunes, food served by really bored and cynical waiters, this restaurant is delightful. Even the tableware was unusual. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough and I wish the young owner all good luck in his venture. Penelope

Located on the main drag in the trendy Wicker Park area, the signboard is easy to miss - just painted in stylistic script on the inner face of the doorway, whose paint was also chipping off. But such good food and excellent service, despite being understaffed (only one waiter for the whole restaurant the evening we were there!). The Santorini wine were recommended was a hit, as was the meal which we chose of several small cold plates and small hot plates.

Excellent, serious, non-touristy Greek food in a quiet, pleasant dining room in Wicker Park. Close to the Blue Line, obscure signage, nice wine list, fair prices. Very friendly service, even though we were the last 2 in the place for the last 30 minutes at least.

Great food - not the cliche Greek restaurant with Gyros Pita and Tzatziki or feta cheese in wine leaves. The menu is very focused on a couple of dishes. Everything tasted very well - the wine is a bit pricey. We had a good table but when the room got full it became very load as well - hard to have a conversation at the table. Nevertheless we enjoyed it and will come back.

This is the best authentic Greek food I've tasted outside of Greece. The offerings are often based on traditional home-cooked dishes. And the wines are amazing. They are limited production wines produced by artisan winemakers, and this restaurant is the only place in the US where you can buy several of them.

I live in Chicago, and there are super-expensive restaurants and lots of trendy, over-priced, mediocre, highly-publicized restaurants. But if you actually want amazing, deeply authentic regional Greek food in a beautiful and serene space, with house-prepared ingredients from top to bottom, then you need to go to Taxim, an under-publicized restaurant in Wicker Park. Here you will find house-cured sardines, Marothopita with house made yoghurt sauce, sauteed wild cress, Manouri with house-candied bergamont and Cretan honey. This is exquisitely prepared, carefully sourced masterful real cooking. The extensive locally based wine list goes to many Greek regions. In the summer there's a roof garden. Sublime! Don't believe the hype. Go to Taxim instead and get away from the tourist swarms. I eat here every time I am fortunate enough to have the opportunity.

We dined at this cool regional Greek restaurant in Wicker park. Some deelish small plates like okra, fried cauliflower, pork belly, sardines, octopus, squash fritters, grape leaves wrapped shrimp. The quail entree and duck gyro entree were yummy . Very Cool decor and we made sure we had room for dessert. The homemade ice cream from Rodopi mountains orchid roots and fried dumplings with wild flower honey, rose cream and cinnamon were devoured in a heart beat. This brings back memories of our summer vacation in Hydra and Athens.

Four people with a 7:15 reservation, confirmed earlier in the day. We arrive and the host questions us for about 7 minutes about our reservation. Very strange. Anyway, after insisting we get seated, he finally showed us to our seats. The highlight of our visit, Miranda. Absolutely one of the best servers we have experienced. Attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. Food was good and worth the price. Place is really noisy though. Want something outside the tourist area of chicago, check this place out.

They are doing so many things wrong, with maybe a few things right if you get lucky. Men’s bathroom, soaking wet and a mess. Outside dining mandatory on a very cool night with 33% too few propane heaters, just plane cold for many guests, Unexpected food preparation, over seasoned and fried; Fishy tasking fish; fishy tasting taramosalatta; Yup, Yup, Yup. Tell me where in these two descriptions the guest would have a clue that these were essentially fried egg rolls posing as a gyros? No bread, no separate meat/fish, no warning from waiter. And, the duck couldn’t be tasted as it was way too over powered by the cumin spice which was all you could taste from in the pastourma seasoning. The chicken lemon soup was ok, but didn’t care for garbanzo beans and loose texture, the saganaki fried cheese was excellent, and cucumber tomato salad as expected. Unfortunately, we didn’t do any of the grilled meat choices, although I thought I was getting it with the duck. DUCK GÝRO Spit-roasted duck breast and leg rubbed with pastourmá spices, yogurt sauce, Pontian satz bread, pomegranate reduction, pickled chard, fries FISH GÝRO Spit-roasted sea bream, red cabbage salad, Cypriot tahini sauce, fried colocasi Our waiter was very friendly, just a tad scarce, but service was fast. If you want more predictable Greek food, venture to Greek town and get familiar comfort!

I dined here a few nights ago upon a recommendation from a Greek acquaintance. The menu was unique and inspiring. The atmosphere was young and vibrant. The food was good and I am excited to go back and forth try other options on the menu. The duck gyro was very good and creative. The fish gyro was also good. The octopus appetizer was delicious. I am looking forward to trying the lamb chops or shank next time. We were waited on personally by the chef/owner. The doughnut desert is not to be missed.

Perhaps the worst restaurant experience that I've had in the past 20 years. Some of the food was inedible -- lamb was so salty that I couldn't eat it (and I like salt), and most other dishes were no better than mediocre. Calling the service indifferent is generous. And...it was unbelievably expensive for a Greek restaurant. There are probably 100 Greek restaurants in the city that are head and shoulders better than this one for less than half the price. I wouldn't eat here again if it were the last restaurant in Chicago.

Our friends, who frequent Taxim, took us there for dinner. Terrific idea! We ordered a mix of meals and savory small plates. Everything was delicious, and the wait staff was attentive. Dishes ranged from kebop to rack of lamb, octopus to fresh beets. We now join our friends in recommending Taxim!

I have to say, I had high expectations of this place after having been to Greece and having heard good things. But this place fell short of expectations. While the meal was good, I'd say for the price and for the terrible service, I'd rather head to Parthenon in Greek town. We sat for at least 20 minutes before someone even so much as looked our way and when we made note of it to the hostess, there didn't seem to be much of an apology. A server finally came over and apologized, blaming it on how they assign tables...and that they don't so no one really knows when they have been sat. We ordered a bunch of small plates, since the concept is more tapas based. One of our appetizers didn't come out and when we reminded the waitress, we had to remind her a second time before it came out. I'm all for good service - SOP would be to remove that appetizer from the bill since it came out with the meal. We politely asked and the waitress seemed annoyed. I WILL say, she brought us some Ouza, complimentary to apologize and said she respected our forthright nature. It wasn't the servers fault, but get it together Taxim! Your food is good, but not truly authentic and with less than subpar service, you're not somewhere I'd necessarily come back to.

Really enjoyed coming here with my Mom and girlfriend. Food was very high quality, fresh, and well flavored. We had one of the flatbreads to start and shrimp wraps. Both were tasty. I had the lamb chop for my main which was very tender. Definitely would return.

The dining experience was okay. The food tasted alright. I ate there after a day of eating only bread at home, and I got food poisoning. I contacted the restaurant about this and they did not seem to care much even though it was obvious that I was sick from their food.

Taxim's decor sets the tone: exposed brick and white-painted walls with graceful arches; pierced metal lanterns, Byzantine-style art, copper-topped tables set close together, and red velvet cushions on the banquettes. This is not a place meant to evoke a beachfront taverna. Rather, the menu allows diners to explore the variety of regional Greek cuisine. The small plates really stand out: On our most recent visit we enjoyed fried cauliflower on a bed of whipped feta cheese made pink by adding roasted red pepper; warm artichoke, fingerling potato and carrot slices in a dressing of oil and lemon flavored with fresh dill; smoked mackerel with roasted small whole tomatoes and capers; and shrimp dolmades. We didn't love the lamb offal in a caul...it was a bit chewy...but we were glad we tried it. If you like lamb, go for the lamb chops instead. There is a pretty extensive list of Greek wines, many of which may be unfamiliar but the staff can help choose one. Along a bustling stretch of Milwaukee Ave, this place gets quite lively (some would say "loud") at peak times. Metered street parking is not too hard to find.

Were one of the 1st parties when we went there around 5.30 on a Friday evening. The small plates were excellent all around. Greek yes, but not your typical greek fare. The people bringing the food out (not our server) were clueless. In fact we got some one else's peynirli and later, much later, our own showed up. The main dishes took forever to come out of the kitchen. By that time (almost 1 1/2 hr later) the place had filled up. We ordered one portion of loukoumades (4 for $7!!). they were too heavy and were in some caramel sauce. Plain honey is better. Also one order of their Boughatsa (ala Thessaloniki, they said on the menu). Tasteless. Don't bother with the deserts. Good wine list.

I love this place. I've loved everything I've ever had here, without fail. The owner and staff are great. The staff can easily help you navigate the all-Greek wine list with excellent options at all price levels. The flavor combinations are so unique and delighful. This is SO not Greek Town Greek food: no flaming cheese or "Ohpahs!" to be found!

Food was good but we were there for 2 HOURS and still did not get our entrees so we wound up leaving! They told us "the chicken was bigger than normal" as a reason for the delay. Understaffed on a Thursday. The okra and smelt dolmas appetizers were very good. Too bad service was so abysmal!

Really good food served in broken plates. What's up with that!!! But overall great service and great ambience. Octopus is a must. I found it a little expensive but it was worth. They have great food but should buy new plates.

This is just a wonderful, eclectic delicious restaurant. The small plates are wonderful and we think that several make a perfect, shareable meal. Next time, that is what we will do. That said, I don't know how I will pass on the lamp chops. They were perfect!

Went with a group for eats before heading to Rosa's Lounge. Spouse's birthday. Seated promptly. Service helpful, solid recommendations on the wine, food portions. Accommodated the gluten-/soy intolerant in our group fairly well. Hummus average. Pita also (doesn't appear to be made here). Eggplant nicely smoked. Pretty much standard fair except for the octopus which was heavenly. Everyone in the group raved. Ordered 4 entrees to split between 8. Lamb, both shank and ribs were excellent, I favored the ribs. They add another set so we had one for each couple. Not a dessert crew, except for a birthday cake we brought, time to head to Rosa's! Seriously good greek food!

We had a very nice dinner at this greek restaurant. This was great greek food in buck town/ wicker park area! We had duck tacos wrapped in phyllo dough ( a new take on tacos than I've had before) and we had the octopus which was well grilled with lots of veggies. I don't know much about greek wine, but the wine was also delicious! We will be back to try more greek wines and try some other greek small plates!

Just what you need if you are looking for an awesome Greek meal. The place is nicely decorated without your typical cultural stereotypes. The food seems to be more regional than your average national dishes. Ordered the pork skewer and the taste and presentation were pretty good. Great wine selection, service is attentive. Overall a great dining experience.

I came here with a large group, and while the food that my friends were served was delicious, we were very disappointed with the service. I would expect such a nice, upscale restaurant to know how to treat their customers with more refinement. I ordered a chicken dish, and the rest of my party ordered tapas. All of my group were served, ate their food, and fifteen minutes after they were done I still did not have my dish. Another member of my party was missing part of her dish as well. We received no apology or explanation from the staff about the delay, and finally we walked up front to speak with someone. When the missing dishes were finally brought out, we were then confronted by (I presume) a manager. At other restaurants, when this happens, the entree is usually discounted or "on the house". Here, the manager made it clear that would not be happening. She stared at us until I decided to say that at that point I didn't even want the meal anymore because we had already been there over an hour and had to leave. They then took my food, likely threw it away, and I left the restaurant without having eaten a bite. The apology was minimal, and the way it was handled was disappointing, especially for such a nice restaurant. When we finally received our checks (after a long wait), the members of my group were then surprised to see that 20% gratuity was included. We waited again for someone to come take our payment, but after being unable to flag anyone down for sometime we went up front to pay ourselves. After our experience with the service, we complained to the cashier about the included tip, and finally this was taken off our checks. While the restaurant is a beautiful building with a great menu and ambiance, and they did indeed allow us to tip what we wanted, and did not make me pay for my meal (which I never ate), overall we were very disappointed. The food portions were small, the service was a big letdown, and we walked across the street to get slices of pizza instead. If you come here, make sure to bring your patience!

Wicker Park and Bucktown are two of the coolest areas in Chicago, with lots of restaurant competition. Taxim is our favorite for a nice sit-down-and-enjoy-a-nice-bottle-of-wine dinner. Greektown is great, with lots of traditional options, but Taxim is more refined, without the least bit of pretense. Taxim is not a flaming cheese “OPA” sort of place. The food is wonderful. Long interesting wine list (all Greek I think but the waitstaff knows their stuff - thanks, Whitney). A year or two ago they opened a lovely roof deck that is wonderful on a nice night. Taxim is easy 5 stars. We’ve probably been there two dozen times.

Family dinner for 4 was very special thanks to taxim - great dishes and always attentive service with great recommendations. Food was fresh very tasty , nice atmosphere- Taxim became one of our top 5 fav dining out spots !

Three of us had dinner here last weekend. The service was excellent; the food was very, very good. The menu has a great deal more variety than your average Greek menu. We loved the leek in phyllo pie, the mushroom flatbread, the lamb kebab. We were less in love with the octopus and the artichoke dish. Save room for the cookies, which were delicious. The wine list is excellent. We got to enjoy Greek wines in Greece last year. Don't miss.

The restaurant is a nice space with a lovely upstairs outdoor seating area. The service was good. The food, while advertised as Greek, is a strange mix of Greek-ish fusion. I had a sea bream dish which ended up being a new take on gyros - the fish was rolled in a fried crust. Was glad I tried the restaurant - but I would not rush back. There are many better restaurants, and Greek restaurants in Chicago.

Pros: Octopus was melt in your mouth wonderful, trendy, small and large dishes, friendly service, romantic, great wine list, beautifully plated, lots of choices. Cons: Could be noisy if full as tables are close together, a little pricey but you get quality food. Greek isn’t my favorite food but I have to say I loved this place. The fresh pita bread was amazing and the octopus was to die for. I was a little leery of trying it as I’ve never eaten octopus but it is a MUST HAVE if you go to this restaurant.

Years ago on Skyros an island guy who'd been living in Paris told me how frustrating it was to come home and try to create something different with the basic cuisine. I'm a Greek food fan. Taksim is the first place that I've been that makes the guy's fantasy real. Amazing food, among the best we've had anywhere, under any national flag. Everything is different than the traditional menu, but recognizably of Greek origin, and amazing in every sense of the word. Reasonable prices considering the quality of the experience. Pleasant setting and great staff. If you're in Chicago treat yourself.

Four friends met at Taxim for dinner on the Friday night after 4th of July. We were seated immediately in the center of the room where the tables are placed very close to your neighbors. We were lucky to have nice neighbors. The food was excellent. The four of us shared 5 small plates and 2 main entrees, and we had just enough food. The problem was the slow service. We sat down around 7:30 and ordered right away but at 8:45 we were still waiting for some of the plates to come out of the kitchen. And we were largely ignored by our waitor. The restaurant was recently reviewed on Check Please and perhaps it has been overwhelmed by the positive response and large groups that are now attracted to it. The excellent food gets a five plus but the service was only a 2.

As we were in Wicker Park / Chicago enjoying a carefree afternoon, we decided to peruse the local eateries. We had a hankering for some Greek offerings. We saw Taxims on open table and made a reservation. There are expectations when going to a Greek restaurant: Salad, Flaming Saganaki, lamb off the bone etc... To our surprise- none of this was offered. What we did choose was ok, but not for the price. I would not recommend

We were visiting Chicago a couple of weeks ago and decided on Greek cuisine for Friday night dinner. Since reviews of Taxim were quite positive, we decided to give it a try. We were so glad we did. The waitress was extremely helpful in guiding our selections. There were two of us, and we ordered three small plates to share. We ordered Agináres me koukiá (Politiki-style artichokes, fingerling potatoes, favas, baby carrots, dill), Prassópita (leeks, fresh dill, lemon and goat feta stuffed in house-made phyllo), and a dish with cheese and bread that was a special that evening. For dessert, we had Chocolate semolina halvá. And we had a wonderful white wine from Greece. Everything was so delicious, and the service was exceptional. Taxim is conveniently located close to a Blue Line stop. Unfortunately, there was construction at that stop during our visit, but the walk wasn't bad. If you're headed to Taxim, you might want to check on the Blue Line construction before you head out.

My husband and I went to Taxim with our 5 children age range 16 to 5yrs...enjoyed many dishes from appetizers to main dishes...we all enjoyed the food very much!!!

Loved this place! I think is a little pricey but food was really, really good. I love Mediterranean Cuisine, usually I will have the Lebanese version of many of the dishes, for example the creams like Tzatziki, Hummus, or roasted eggplant. Well we were a large group so we ordered a lot of options to try, my favorite were theTzatziki that was absolutely delicious, the lamb kebabs, the filo pastries and the lamb chops, cooked to perfection. Service was very good and fast enough.

I did not think anything was over-priced and the portion sizes were fine, particularly the roasted chicken which was delicious. The beet salad is also tasty and different. Our server had a great wine recommendation.

I wrote a review for Taxim abut 18 months ago. Upon visiting tonight, I feel the need to write another. Why? Because Taxim is even better than before. Our party of four started with our wine choice. Because we are unfamiliar with Greek wines, we asked our waitress what she would recommend. After asking our preferences, she recommended a wine and offered us a sample to make sure that we would be satisfied with her choice. Her choice was perfect, because it went so well with our food choices. The menu is very creative and not typical for a Greek restaurant. We sought the advice of our waitress. She recommended four small plates. She nailed it -- the calamari and egg plant were especially good. We moved on to the larger plates -- the lamb chops and sea bass were strongly recommended by our waitress. Once again, the best we have had. Overall, food is great. The wait staff is very well informed. The experience is unlike any other you have had at a Greek restaurant. Well done!

We came for the DJ's (Saturday night) and decided to call ahead and get a reservation to eat before the show... and snag a good table. The 3 salads we ordered (all vegetarian) were good to very good. But the whole Mediterranean Sea Bass was outstanding, and at $32 a relative bargain. Dare I say, it was even more delicious than at Santorini in Greek town. And then we danced!

An interesting and authentic Greek restaurant away from downtown. Appetizers were good - grilled octopus (all mine and excellent), roasted eggplant (excellent), and artichoke (good). Entrees were grilled whole quails (also all mine), duck gyro, lamb chops and lamb shank. We washed it all down with a pleasant Greek white wine. Service was excellent and very knowledgeable. It's probably 3.75 stars rather than 4 but well worth a visit - lot of bread though, providing carbs in just about every dish. Go - it's fun.

Considering all the good reviews, and it being my birthday I’m sorry to say we had a disappointing meal at Taxim. We order a number of different items and most were unimpressive. Our least favorite was the olives which were in a brine so salty it was inedible. The best we had was the beef flatbread which did have good flavor, as long as you got some of the egg yolk. Everything else just fell flat (duck gyros, duck fat fries, beet salad, lamb shank and fried cauliflower) Service was fine but a bit chaotic. The room is lively as is the noise level. Sadly will not be returning.
Not Your Everyday Greek
The food at Taxim was Greek, but updated! The space is very attractively and minimally decorated. Delicious appetizer of very thinly sliced beets, another featuring squash fritters. While Taxim had the usual octopus...also very good, they had stuffed cabbage served on a bed of the best tasting barley I have ever had and they had duck. I'm a vegetarian and had plenty of choices. I look forward to a return visit!
