This is our favorite "go to" restaurant in Dallas. The quality of the fresh fish varieties is great. We were a party of four and had the red miso soup to start, the Sashimi Special for four (Spanish Mackrel-favorite, tuna, red snapper, octopus and yellow tail). For dinner we had; yellow tail carpaccio, whole Branzino, sea bass and enoki mushrooms, rainbow trout, Washu beef on a rock, 2 orders of enoki mushrooms. For dessert, we had 1 of each on the menu. The service is welcoming and they are very attentive. Love this place.

I'm not a fan on uni (sea urchin); the preparation at Tei Tei won me over. A great mix of traditional sushi/sashimi options, plus great specials. The robata (small grill/skewer meats) is great. Sitting by the kitchen is a great experience.

We had a large group and we were so excited to have dinner at this restaurant. Unfortunately the experience did not match our expectations. 1. They separated out party into two tables even though there was space to have one table. 2. There was a two hour limit at our table. This was an issue to begin with, however, it became a bigger issue when it took them 30 minutes to deliver drinks and one hour to deliver the first round of food (and we had three rounds). After spending over 900 dollars on dinner - you would expect a better experience then them kicking you out of the restaurant. 3. The wait staff was nice but not overly helpful or enjoyable to talk with. I was expecting slightly better service. 4. As a sushi lover - I would say this is an 8 out 10. For one of the best Sushi restaurants in Dallas - I was not super impressed. Yes I get that I can't compare it to New York or San Francisco but still Chicago has better sushi. Anyway the miso mushroom platter was definitely my favorite - once again that is disappointing to say for a good sushi restaurant. 5. The only two things I loved about this restaurant was: 1. The location - being around all the bars made the experience fun afterwards. 2. The table was a traditional Japanese table and we took off our shoes! So much fun! I am happy I went once to check it off my list but will not be going back.

We have coming here regularly since it opened, about 15-20 years. The place has not chnaged a bit: offering great Japanes style food, terrific service and the place is filled with vibrant energy; and of course, always crowded and full. Here are the ranking of our favorites that you do not want to miss: grilled whole branzino, sashimi salad, grilled quails, soft shell crab hand rolls, shishito peppers and crispy chicken breast rolls. Unlike other guests, we do not order sushi becuase there are so many other great choices that you can't get in town. Be adventurous! By the way, it's pupolar place for date nights, hipsters trying to impress each other. But we treat it just as our regular family spot.

Part of my order was toro... the sashimi chef does not have good skill. Other than expensive, the toro meat is not the best quality cut! It is definitely trendy place but if Dallas people think it represent best of Japanese food in the town I feel sorry for them. It has this over success air ... Rude and loud but not the best food. Two of us spent over $150 which I do not mind but..the work is not there yet.

This is the best sushi and sashimi I've ever had. Tried lots while we were there - cooked collar, kumamoto oysters, sea urchin, toro and scallop were the best I've ever had. This was a really great find since it's kind of unassuming looking. If you're a fan or just starting out with sushi, spoil yourself and eat here.

We are regulars here, visiting Tei Tei about once every two weeks. We always start with the edamame, followed by the grilled artichoke, which is phenomenal. The martinis are excellent, too! The salmon carpaccio is also one of our regular favorites, and if there is a tuna carpaccio on the special menu, we'll order that as well. The sushi is always fantastic. Impeccable preparation is their trademark.

Getting into the parking lot to valet park can be a hassle. There is usually at least a 30 minute wait for a table. Each time we have dined here I've felt it was an ok meal which was expensive and a bit of an ordeal getting in. Overall, I think there is better Asian cuisine in Dallas that is less expensive and a certainly less hassle.

I found a piece of a fingernail in my cocktail on our last visit. When I tried to explain our disgust with this to the hostess, she acted as if she didn’t believe me. Our whole party was in shock over this level of service. We left immediately and will never go back. Oishi on Oaklawn is much better anyway.

Wow. Tei Tei is a find and one trip will make you a loyal fan. Living in Dallas for almost 20 years, I tried a few times to go to Tei Tei, but ended up in their bar or did not go because of the wait.... my mistake! Tei Tei lived up to the hype and expectations from my better half. We went on a Friday night and had about a 20 minute wait... just enough time to have a glass of wine. The wine list at Tei Tei is adequate and the Sake list is indulgent. The martini list looked interesting and may be a try on our next visit. Noticed a Lychee Martini and a Pom Bom! Once seated, menus were left on our table and our server took a few minutes to get to us. The dining room has one reserve party table and looks like it could seat about 20 people at a time, and another 10 at the Sushi Bar. Amuse- We were greeted with a warm potato and tofu amuse. We waited to try it, but wanted more! A great way to set expectations for the meal. Appetizer- We were guided to the Marinated Sea Bass and Edamame. The edamame was cooked right and the Sea Bass is must. A comparable Sea Bass at Steel across town would be 2-3 times the price. This was a 'Steal' compare to Steel, and a better grilled version from the Robata menu. Mains- We had few hot items in addition to Sushi. Sushi- very fresh fish and the chefs created any roll you wanted. We ordered the "Feed Me" roll which was a surprise roll. Absolutely the best part of the Sushi order! We also ordered California, Rainbow and Shrimp Tempura. Excellent. Soft Shell Crab- Pretty good, but may not order again. The crab was a tempura version that had a bit too much vinegar. Probably the low light, but would be a high light at most other restaurants. A bit mushy. Artichokes- Fantastic and grilled Hibachi. Amazing! Service - Manager was extremely courteous and checked in on us throughout the meal. Our waitress was knowledgeable and the bus staff was great. Overall, we are craving and wanting to go back already. There were plenty of other dishes to try and worth trying. The only complaint would be the lack of good stemware to accompany the fantastic cuisine. One trip and you will know why this place is hard to get into.

Our favorite Japanese place, been coming regularly for a long time. We always order grilled branzino, grilled quails and sashimi salad. But at this visit, the owner and head chef was not there. Branzino was very salty, quails were a bit skinny and dry, and dressing of the sashimi salad was not as sharp. They do not take reservations, so come early without waiting for a table.

I went here on a date on a Friday night around 800pm and it was like a night club with a DJ and really loud music, which would be great if I were going dancing, but we could barely hear each other so it was hard to have a decent conversation. The staff was very nice. They greeted us when we came in and seated us at a table within 40 minutes - not bad for a Friday night and no reservation. After waiting for what seemed like a long time (in reality was probably 10 minutes) I ordered cooked sea bass and scallops. My date ordered rolls. Maybe it was just because we were really hungry, but it seemed like forever for the rolls to show up. I really didn't want any rolls, but ate a couple because I was hungry. They were average - not bad and not great. And we waited. I had polished off a couple of bottles of Pellegrino water by now and still no food. I flagged our waitress and asked about my order. She said, "If I forgot to put the order in, I am sorry and I will do that!" Yes, that would nice... Eventually my dishes showed up after my date had completed his meal. The sea bass was pretty good. Again - nothing to write home about and definitely not worth the wait. I don't plan to go back.

I haven't been to Tei Tei in years - The food and ambiance is still great. The Miso Cod was as I remember - melt in your mouth wonderful. I still enjoy the experience of cooking my steak on a rock - the steak slices were smaller than I remember, but the quality was amazing. Best tasting steak in a while.

Tei Tei is small, and we go early to avoid the wait. But it's definitely worth the wait. Sushi is outstanding, but the cooked food is even better. Grilled artichokes are amazing.

Stopped in for a light dinner and really wished I was in the mood for more because the food was so good. Their nigiri sushi is absolutely top-notch albeit smallish servings. I had pork on the robata grill as well and it was quite good. The ambiance is casual and a bit rustic. I wanted to go back the following week for a bigger meal but discovered that they are not open on Monday nights.

I went to Tei Tei with a small group of business colleagues. Good place for a quality business dinner. Servers were attentive but not in your face. Loved the service. Good decor in a nice neighborhood. Food was high quality Japanese. Loved the sushi rolls! Just watch out for non-seafood people as the menu is limited for them although there is a high quality steak.

Took my fiance to Tei Tei for his birthday and was a bit disappointed for a couple reasons. The food was good but did not reflect the price. We had the shrimp with cornflakes that everyone mentioned in their reviews and was most disappointed with that dish. The cornflakes were so hard and crunchy that it was almost inedible as it tore up the roof of my mouth. The price is reflective of the trendy neighborhood that it is in but not necessarily the food.

Best Japanese restaurant in Dallas! Food: Sushi is always fresh and cut just the right way. My favorite dishes are the miso seabass, kobe beef on the hot rocks and the red miso soup. Their menu tends to change but most of whats on there is pretty good. Service: Very attentive. My tea was refilled everytime it got halfway empty. =) Price: A bit expensive. For two people, it's usually about $90-100 but worth it!

Wow - have never had robata in such an amazing combo as tomato and proscioutto. Yum! And the service was friendly and prompt. Highly recommend!

authentic japanese, pretty good

I live in Dallas and we frequently eat at Tei Tei Robata Bar. It ranks as our number 2 favorite Japanese food in Dallas and has the advantage over number 1 of having a full bar. Sakamoto runs a fine establishment and he is an excellent sushi chef.

We ate here to celebrate our anniversary on a Saturday night, graduation weekend. We've vowed to celebrate our anniversary in the future during the week of finals as each place we went was packed. This particular restaurant apparently had a bachelor party, as the chants of "down in one!" "down in two" drowned out any chance for decent conversation. The staff did ask them several times to turn it down, but what can you do when a table that is spending a ton of money can't tell when their party is disturbing the entire restaurant. The food however - EXCELLENT - we were seated by the kitchen station and watched all kinds of delicious food cook on the oak robata grill, straight from the ice display in front of us. The smoked salmon sushi was perfect, loved the Big roll, the soft shell crab roll is one I am looking forward to having again too. Be prepared for a long wait, the couple that took our seat in the lobby bar was still sitting there when we left. I look forward to going back again, maybe on a weeknight when we stand a chance of having a conversation while we enjoy the delicious food.

This was our first time dining at Tei Tei Robata and it definitely won't be our last. We enjoyed everything from the sushi to the black redfish and grilled lamb chops. We also enjoyed the grilled pork sausages and grilled okra... they were delightful! The cocktails were well prepared. The robata choices were fresh, packed in ice and on display for your choosing. The waitstaff made our visit most enjoyable!

I was told that this was the best place for sushi in Dallas. After a recent meal there, I discovered I should have listened more closely. I eat sushi all of the time and decided to venture off of the sushi menu and order some of the Robata items. While the Sashimi appetizer was good, all other items our table ordered were less than impressive. The hot rock beef appetizer was a joke. $22 for 6 pieces of raw meat with no flavor. Sure, you can drown it in soy sauce, but what is the point. Tei Tei was out of the wine we ordered so we ended up ordering some good wine $85/bottle that made the meal tolerable. The service was extremely slow which shouldn't happen is a restaurant the size of a shoe box. Stick with the Sushi if you go. $362 for table of 4; there are far better options in this area.

Came for a dinner with co-workers. Food was great (except for the Shrimp with cornflakes) The Brazini was amazing, the service was attentive and warm. Great place for dinner with friends or co-workers.

found this restaurant by mistake ... what a great mistake. Amazing dishes. Had the classic sushi options and SO much more. Tried the branzino fish and different side dishes - WOW!

We go to Tei Tei about once a month. Last night we branched out into dishes we had not tried. The mushroom and scallop skewer with hot pepper and cool radish puree was inspired. Artichokes are grilled; aioli is the best I've had. Raw oysters were expensive but some of the best I've had. Get the Kusshi from BC. Fantastic. Edamame is a staple at all Japanese restaurants, but here it's seasoned perfectly. The ginger too is a staple, but most restaurants serve it in sheets and it can be bitter. Here it's delicious and pre-torn for you. Service is always excellent, but last night our server was energetic, informative and also fast.

There used to be a hole in the wall (family run) Japanese restaurant near TI, but it closed down. They had the best Japanese authentic food, I ever had in Dallas or in the US. Tei Tei Robata is almost as good as the closed one :) except you will probably have to pay a bit more. You should know what to eat here. Please do not come with the perception that Sushi is the only Japanese food that you want to eat.

The SETTING: Five (5) visits here in the past year, mostly for dinner dates The VIBE: 3.5 Stars - A fairly small restaurant, Tei Tei has an authentic feel while staying Dallas-trendy. You can sit at tables or at the sushi/robata bar to watch the action. The crowd is mixed in age but all well-dressed/trendy. There is also a small bar in the back to drink or have appetizers while you wait for your table. Parking is a bit tough if you don't valet... NOTE: They do not take reservations for groups under 6 (unless you know the management) and the waits can get nightmarish, so either get there early or prepare to have a couple cocktails before you sit. The SERVICE: 4 Stars - Unassuming, friendly, and mostly helpful. The only knock is they start cooking things as soon as you order them and don't really think about the potentially overwhelming effect of 6 plates on the table at a time, so if you are sharing many small dishes and want to spread them out, only order 2 at a time (ordering the next 2 when the items actually arrive...) The FOOD: 4 Stars - Other than Tei Ann, this has been the most authentic sushi I have found. Their robata dishes are actually the stars though (hot rock, tempura soft shell crap, shushito peppers). Avoid the popcorn crab. The Bottom Line - A great date place in a good location as long as you are willing to wait a bit.

I've been to Tei Tei Robata twice. Both times, service has been excellent and the food hasn't disappointed. Don't miss the Washu beef on the hot rock.

Got scammed. Bill $96. Laid down $120 and went to restroom. Leaving and waitress came up and said only laid two $20. Apologized and gave $100 which she gave back $20. Counted money later and realized I had in fact laid down $120. Called and told they had a scammer and they didn't care and hung up. If you go and pay cash, don't walk away. Better yet, don't go. The way seating is set up, extremely unlikey for patron to switch out bills.

Authentic Japanese cuisine, both raw and grilled. Get acquainted with the bar and wait staff and you will enjoy unusual food and drink suited for your specific taste. This is a very unique place - popular, lively, yet smallish and intimate.

We've eaten here many times, but they recently lost their chef, and most of the staff, it seems. The rice is tasteless now. The seaweed salad made with large tough leaves. The grilled artichoke (my favorite), tough (undercooked?). The yellowtail sashimi was excellent, but the crab roll and cucumber roll bland. Service was poor. In our other many visits, service was always excellent.

This is arguably the best sushi bar in Dallas. Everything about it is A-list. From the Japanese chefs that have been there for years, to the finest grade seafood available, you will be hard pressed to find something better in Big D. On the sushi menu you have the typical yellowtail, tuna, salmon, eel, and others. But also more exotic items such sea urchin, toro, and even baby abalone are available on a regular basis. Grade A, super fresh, I’ve never had a bad piece of raw fish here. On the grill, “robata” side, don’t miss the marinated sea bass, a specialty here. It’s a perfect appetizer for 2. Also snapper, branzini, scampi, and many other varieties of seafood are plucked from the ice bin in front of you, skewered, and grilled whole, right in front of everyone sitting at the sushi bar. Another great item to try is the “beef on the rocks”, a 6-slice order of ultra high-grade washu beef, served raw with an extremely hot rock and a soy based dipping sauce. Grab the beef with your chopsticks, dip it into the sauce, and cook it to your desired doneness on the rock. It has a cool, simple, high end asian look, with warm wood and veregated stone works. Cool buzz, but not too loud. Get there by 7pm if you don't want to wait, or sip cold saki in the bar while you do. Too many good things to say about this place..enjoy!

Super food and service. Would really recommend this place. Authentic Japanese cuisine. Sushi is good and well prepared. Salad with Japanese dressing very nice, as were shrimps It was my first time there but enjoyed and definitely go back.

Tei Tei is the best service and seafood you can get in Dallas. Every time I have visited in the last few years I have had very consistent service and terrific food. The most fresh fish this far inland! They have a gluten free soy sauce and they know their menu for the gluten free people out there. I recommend ordering Omakase if you are feeling brave. You are essentially you are asking the head chef to pick out your dinner. It literally means, "I leave it to you" You get to experience a variety of food you may have never decided to try. It's worth it. Your food will come in waves and they describe everything you are getting as it arrives.

really good sushi for an average price

I really enjoyed the atmosphere. The staff is very friendly and service was top notch. The sushi is very good, but pretty basic. So if you are going for just sushi, I might suggest somewhere else, only because there isn't a big variety. but I will say the sushi we had was very good and very fresh. They have so many other things on the menu to choose from that the sushi becomes a little boring. The prices are a little high in my opinion for what you get, but again everything I had was pretty good.

We have been dining at Tei Tei for 17 years and it is still as good as ever. The ambiance and atmosphere pair perfectly with the menu. They have plenty of amazing dishes for meat eaters, but they have an excellent assortment of choices for vegetarians. You could visit four times and do a different vegetarian meal every time. The food is as fresh and delicious as anywhere we've had. We have never had a bad dining experience at Tei Tei and will continue to recommend to in-town and out-of-town friends. Quick tip: For meat eaters you must try the corn flake shrimp. For veg eaters you must try the vegetable tempura, the enoki parcel, and the artichoke. And the yuzu rice ball!

This has to be the best Japanese restaurant that I have ever eaten in. Street curbside appearance is deceiving..not impressive, but the food is certainly impressive. I notice that other reviews raved about the sushi. There are so many, varied, delicious items on their menu, even better than the sushi. We were so impressed by the food that we tried to return the next day for lunch. Unfortunately, the restaurant only serves dinner. Disappointing!! They do claim that their seafood is "shipped fresh from Japan"...Is it radioactivity that enhances the flavors? FDA vs Greenpeace sites differ on this issue.

My friend and I went here during our trip to Dallas based on a recommendation from someone at our hotel and the TripAdvisor reviews (of course). It was fantastic - small and a bit crowded but great atmosphere and the sushi was amazing. Really interesting options and the kitchen is open and diners can watch the chefs work their magic. Great drinks as well. I've had sushi all over the world and this place is one of my favorites.

The sushi here is among the best sushi I have ever eaten. Every variety appears to be offered at this hip Dallas eatery. Several locals had told us about this place and it lived up to our every expectation. Service was great. Good sushi takes time, especially on this crowded night, and it was worth it. We also enjoyed big, fresh salads as appetizers and delicious cocktail martinis. I would recommend this to anyone who loves sushi and some good people watching. I wish I could eat here every week. I would believe that some Dallas locals do!

Cannot say a single thing negative about this place other than you can quickly rack up a pretty tab. It is well worth it though! Incredible sushi, grilled fish is awesome and a great sake menu makes this place a must!

What a wonderful surprise! My first meal there back in 2000 was so-so. Went back recently and it was just fantastic. Incredibly fresh sushi and sashimi selections (including a fantastic Uni and Ebi), as well as super authentic Japanese cooked dishes. (think broiled salmon head with deep fried salmon bones...) Great Sake selection, nice atmosphere.

Three of us had dinner here. We tried the jellyfish. Not my favorite, but I had nothing to compare it to, because I had never eaten it before. The rest of our meal was good! I thought it was a little loud for such a small restaurant. The service was good. The only little hiccup would be fin,e if you were one of the lucky few who gets to have a table reserved and they even get a special plaque reserving the table. There were people standing because the guests weren't there yet! Unusual service for Dallas I thought.

We were in Dallas for a week and felt like something a little different for dinner. The concierge at the hotel suggested Tei Tei. We drove out there and were pleasantly surprized to find vallet parking. The restaurant was packed but the host offered to seat us in the lounge while we waited for a table. We had an appy and a drink at the bar with a very friendly croud as well as a very attentive bartender. The host came to get us for our table and then took care of all of the details around getting our bar bill paid. We ordered a selection of items but by far and away the best was the Kobe Beef that you cook yourself on a hot stone. It was out of this world. So good in fact that we declined dessert and ordered another one. The only bad thing was that we had event tickets for the next night and could not go back prior to leaving. A perfect 10 out of 10 in every way.

We first ordered bluefin & young yellow tail sashimi. Both were deliciously buttery! We then had yummy veggie tempura and it was tasty. For the finale, the spicy tuna rolls rocked! Best ever!

First of all we loved the food! Everything was excellent! Our server was very knowledgeable about the dishes and friendly. The only downside I would say with other staff is that they didn’t seem to understand that the customer is always right. We had trouble with calling in a reservation and then the manager said no one called and left a message when we definitely did. Similar to other recent complaint, but wouldn’t stop us from going back again! Don’t miss out on the sake ice cream! Made on site.

Very pleasing offerings, service and experience. Glad to have them here in the neighborhood.

The sushi special was just some standard (very small) sashimi, the only good part of it was Sea Urchin, not what you expect of a $26 "special" The Bass Robata was good, but also very small. Sushi was so-so and it took forever Overall, a nice place with slooooowwww service and acceptable food, and not worth what we paid. If you want sushi, go to The Blue Fish Greenville

Tei Tei is my favorite sushi place in town! The food is always super fresh and the atmosphere is great! Some of our favorites include the deep fried soft shell crabs (app) and any sushi roll. Also, the robata grill is great...try the sea bass. It is fun to sit next to the grill and watch the chefs at work. The only downside can be the wait for a table. At least the bar in the back can help pass the time! The service is always pretty quick & friendly.

EXCELLENT. The best sushi bar in Dallas and frankly better than anything I have had in Chicago, and many other places in the States... I have been to Tei Tei Robata six or seven times during my visits to Dallas. Normally i've found them a bit snooty. Not this time. Great service by Takei and Ashanti. Was happy Takei spoke Japanese to me even though her English seemed perfect. Ashanti had a natural smile on her face all the time. Variety of Sashimi, totally fresh, and delicious. Some of the pieces felt a bit thick but fine. Tempura, fabulous. Everything frankly was great. I had been longing for a good Japanese food for a while. Price/Value: around 125$ no alcohol for the level i order. Fair. My go-to sushi bar in Dallas. Mehran (of Chicago)

The food was good, the prices were reasonable. The service wasn't too bad however, we had requested additional items and did not receive them. We also wanted to things listed on the menu that they were out of. Nice atmosphere.

After 2 long years we went back to Tei Tei Robata, and once again it was sooooo exquisite. Sushi is top of the top, fish is so fresh tha tu can fell the puri puri freshness on every bite of the sashimi. We had Hokke Robata (atka mackerel) and was simply fantastic, so fluffly, juicy... didnt expect it... was so pleasant to eat it with some grated radish. Those were the king and queen of the night! love it! Of course service its always A++++ Mata kimasu!

It dint feel like you are in Dallas at all, fast service and good food! Fresh sashimi as well !! . If you ever craving for some authentic Japanese food come here !!

There will always be new shining stars that dazzle and have crowds lined out the door to try the latest kid in town. But then there also the tried and true comfort zone establishments that you can rely on for what you expect. Tei Tei falls into that niche. We come here for family occasions such as birthdays, etc because we know they are accustoms to serving larger groups in their tiny eating areas. It doesn't matter what you order here, it's made fresh from scratch and the flavors are there to prove it.

Arrive early or be prepared to relax in the bar awaiting your table. Pleasant atmosphere and attentive service. Authentic Robata grill carefully prepared and presented food. Wagyu on the Rock excellent. Oysters fresh and tasty. Portions not overwhelming allows you to sample a large variety of Sashimi/Sushi and entrees. Worthy of a visit!!!

Have been here a few times and have ALWAYS been amazed by the food and service. Excellent fish any way you get it, the yellowtail robata just melts in your mouth... will definitely be back!

Passing through Dallas and carving for some Japanese sashimi. So glad we came early and were seated right away. The sashimi was very fresh but was disappointed that they were out of uni that day. The scallop was very sweet. The desserts were all great. Would recommend this place and definitely will be back again.

After completing business in Dallas, we opted on sushi for dinner. We've been to all the big names in uptown & wanted something different. We headed to Tei Tei Robato on a whim! We knew little about the place. It's in the Knox/Henderson area of Dallas- kinda like SoHo. We handed our keys to the valet attendant & was then directed down a cobble-stone path that was covered in an awning (of some type) that was reminiscent of a short stroll through a Japanese garden. Upon arrival, I was a bit let-down. They told me it would be a 30 minute wait...on a Wednesday! I almost pulled out, but mt wife convinced me to stay. We headed to the bar area & had a few martinis that were nothing short of well-prepared. They had a dj playing soft lounge music which we found very comforting. We waited maybe 20 minutes & were quickly ushered to a table. While I can't recall exactly everything I ordered, I can assure you it was all excellent. The all Asian staff is flawless, polite & well groomed. Put this place on your list for a one-of-a-kind night out!

Great sushi!

Been there twice this year and would definitely go back soon! Love the artichoke, sushi was superb!!!

the meal for me was a great disappointment, since we Omacassi which translates to ( the chef's heart) It was about a 5 to 6 course meal, and thanks to our waitress to tell us how it was to be eaten. You have to ask what it is ( I should have done that before the cow tongue) the last course was the better and it was sushi which was good (not great), green tea was on the bitter side, for me not a smooth flavor as it should have had. I can say this about Tei Tei's everything is fresh with no doubt. our bill was 170.00 for 2 people but we wanted to experience the Chef's heart and his most delicate dishes. For me it was most defiantly a one time thing,.. i wouldn't be going back.. also you are forced to do Valet Parking and expected to do a hefty tip so add that to the bill of 170. and your now into 180. to 200 bucks for dinner...

I love this place. Fresh food and service is great, too. Sashimi assortment ($30/person) is exceptionally fresh and worth every dollar. Love sitting at the bar watching grilling over oak charcoal. Many dishes are not available in other Japanese restaurants. Crab and mushroom soup with rice became my comfort food here. Sushi is done beautifully. Delicious grilled fish is a must try.

Good sushi and robata, but very overpriced. Even the wasabi was $7 for less than an ounce. Sashimi pieces small. Toro was $36 for 5 small pieces. Everything tasted well and service was good, but I felt ripped off in the end.

The food was wonderful. The sea bass w/ mushrooms wrapped in foil was so delicious! & the sushi was top grade. We only wish we had more time to visit again. Definitely a must try if you are visiting Dallas!

Consistently great across lots of choices, among sashimi, sushi, robata and tempura dishes. Our favorites are grilled branzini and quail, fried shishito peppers, sashimi salad, Japanes uni (twice as expensive as the California, & it's worth it) hand-roll. Been coming for years and our favorite Japanese spot in Dallas!

We are a Japanese couple and decided to have a dinner to celebrate an anniversary. We sat down at sushi counter next to the large DVD sound (!) which other guest's child (looks like 3-5 years old) was watching (again at sushi counter!). Food taste was ok, but, both server and sushi chefs' behavior were not good. After finishing appetizer and several robata dishes, we had to wait sushi served for 15-20 minutes. I think that sushi chefs were lack of time sense while drinking sake given from other guest who is a parent of a child with DVD as well as the server who was lazy enough and not willing to do a pro-active approach. I used to use this Tei Tei for business dinner, however, I will rather go to Sushi Sake or Tei An if I have a VIP in the future. Still, this Tei Tei would be good for non Japanese people, but this is not a genuine Japanese restaurant with superior service.

Loved the food. Had several rolls, all were excellent! Nice atmosphere, good service with sushi bar and table seating. Valet parking which is free + tip. Dress was casual and up.

If you are a real Japanese food lover, and not just "California" rolls this is as good as it gets. Supremely fresh, and exotic nigiri and sashimi. Aside from the simple Maguro, Hamachi, and the like that well all know. There is exquisite sea urchin, fresh and salt water eel, abalone, Spanish mackerel, Japanese snapper, giant clam, and so much more. The true highlights are the robata-grilled items. Simply grilled with no sauces, you get the true flavor of the likes of rainbow trout, branzini, salmon collar, quail, lamb, and to many others to name. The popcorn crab, Kobe beef-on-the-rock, sishamo, agedashi, and Japanese pickles are great as well. Take 3 or 4 friends and order 20 items and share them all. Tapas size everything and so much to taste. If you love Japanese food and service, there is no better place in Dallas/Ft. Worth. And maybe the U.S. Absolutely brilliant!

If you're just wanting a run of the mill sushi place, this is not the place. Albeit very pricey, as its literally a Japanese tapas bar, as all dishes are a la cart. Grilled fish melts in your mouth while offering high quality sake! Not for the every day diner but its diffinitely worth a try. Service was in a league of its own as well! Very helpful!

Pick your choice, artichoke, tuna, soft shell crab, assortment of fish & vegies, all grilled to perfection on Tei Tei's robata grill. Very good sushi & rolls, hot rock Waygu beef...I could go on. Never had anything that wasn't superb here. LOVE this place. Pricey, but worth it. Go early because it gets packed.

Great atmosphere. No reservations allowed. Best sushi in town. Loved the grill, amazing grilled fish and oh so yummy. I highly recommend the grill/robata. It was just great!

We have been coming here since it opened in 1998, and it still is our number one Japanese restaurant in Dallas. Great service, terrific food, and very pleasant and welcoming setting. We always order our favorites: grilled branzino, sashimi salad, fried shishito peppers and grilled quails. Also loved uni wrapped in flounder and toro pressed sushi lightly broied of their daily specials this time. There is no reason to go anywhere else for Japanes food in town! It's worth waiting: have drinks and some starters at the bar that Perry will take care of you.

Always consistently good. Not the cheapest but you get what you pay for. Food and service are great. Not a bad meal ever. Japanese Robata is delicious.

Food is good. Fusion Japanese. Robots menu is good (focus on fish). Good bar. Service is very average to low. You would expect a premium service at these food rates. Good for couples. For bigger group (up to 6) it is OK as long as you booked the VIP room (assuming it will be ready on time..)

My fav. In Dallas! Start with artichoke, next Kobe beef rock, then corn flake shrimp. Finish with the lobster. So great! Love the staff, love the food, love the experience.

This is one of the best places to get sushi and sashimi. The fish is fresh, service is excellent and the robata is unique and delicious. Definitely among the best restaurants in Dallas and well worth the price tag and the wait. Try the marinated sea bass, wild yellowtail and the dumplings. Get there early because it fills up quick and the wait can be very long.

4 Words -Soft Shell Crab Rolls. This place is consistently excellent. From the food to the atmosphere- to the sweet lady that walks around making sure you are taken care of. The drinks, dinner, service & atmosphere make a great evening with friends or family. Best to make reservations, the place is not huge- they have a nice bar area where you can relax while waiting for your table. I love sitting at the sushi bar- watching them prepare the meal is entertaining. We had ribeye cooked on the rock, sushi, grilled rice, spring rolls and the most incredible thing on the menu- soft shell crab rolls, these things are indescribable - yumo is all I can say. The only negative is the $ is slightly higher for non sushi items...but the quality, atmosphere & service makes up for the slightly higher $.. A must go if you visit Dallas...

AMAZING!!! $$

I eat at least one meal at Tei Tei Robata whenever I am in the Dallas area. The sushi is fresh and the robata is amazing.

Had a great meal at Tei Tei tonight. Sat at the bar and Perry was an excellent host as my server/sake bartender. Excellent food, reasonable and overall enjoyable experience. Would go back when i visit again. I have high standards for sushi and sake and they were met this evening.

My review compares Tei Tei with restaurants on the Ginza in Tokyo. I have eaten at Tei Tei many times and always with Japanese citizens who exclaim that it is just like eating in Japan. Tei Tei is a restaurant serving food prepared in the robatayaki style. That literally means "fire side" cooking and, indeed, Tei Tei uses a charcoal grill positioned just a you would expect to see a standard sushi chef's board. Do not expect to see a Beniha style flat plate, Tei Tei is real Japanese cooking! Giant prawn and lobster grilled on the half-shell, grilled whole squid served with an exquisite sauce. Most recently I had grilled scallops with sauce made with uni, just outstanding!! The sake menu is exceptionally extensive. Tei Tei also serves excellent sushi and sashimi. If you are looking for unique, excellent Japanese food and can't get to the Ginza, Tei Tei is the place for you.

Honestly just divine and can get expensive very quickly! The fish wrapped in tin foil is exquisite! What a great meal! It's like Japanese tapas. I can't wait to go back. They don't take reservations but they will do call ahead.

Went with a group of 12. I was told this was the place to go to for great sushi when in Dallas. The place is very small and the table we were sat at did not have much leg or elbow room. The service was slow and they didn't have enough cold beers to serve us. The food was average and priced a little high in my opinion.

Group of 7 with reservations had a most wonderful time here and the food was spectacular! We ordered a little of this and a little of that so we could all have a variety... From sushi to shrimp to beef. It was all Delish! A bit pricey, but we knew that going in!

We love the sushi here, it is super fresh and also cheap compared to all the new trendy places out there. They also have one of the best sushi bars with the chefs preparing all the meals in front of you, and the fish is super fresh! We love the Sea Bass and their unique specials.

In fairness we did not get a chance to eat here. We were looking for a late night sushi place to eat, and we found this place via the web. I called to verify hours and the recording confirmed no same day reservations, but open to 11pm no option to speak to someone. We drove from Ft Worth to Dallas, and arrived at approximately 10:30pm and as we approached the restaurant it was clearly marked on the door open till 11pm; however, once we when inside the staff said they were closed.Frustrated I asked again as there were plenty of people still eating, and was told we closed at 10:30pm. In frustration I informed them that both their telephone recording and door said they were open till 11pm, and they replied we close at 10:30pm. I asked if that was everyday and they replied yes. I don't have a problem with them just telling me it's Wed and we closed earlier than normal at 10:30 today I apologize, but to tell me they close at 10:30 everyday when everything is published differently and most restaurants have different hours for different days which even this one has according to the printing on the door just seems un professional. At this point we left and ended up having a very good experience at another establishment who also closed at 11pm, but was willing to still serve people. It is unfortunate as I won't go back when it seems to be rated high on food just not service.

LOVE THIS PLACE. Get the "feed me rolls". The chef makes you surprise rolls. They are always amazing. Super small restaurant with a great date atmosphere. The menu has so many intersting items to try it makes it such a fun date spot! Everything we have had has been amazing (even if it was a little on the weird side).

Yes, you can have delicious sushi and sashimi here but you've got to try "robata" style vegys, fish and meats on the grill! We started with the scallop appetizer carpaccio style, followed by the prosciutto tomatoes, freshly made tofu salad, grilled okra and branzino. Sake & a Spanish white accompanied our first dinner here. Waiter helped us become familiar with the menu and specials and every dirty element was whisked away effortlessly. Presentation spot on and sitting in front of the grill was very interesting. We enjoyed watching the chefs work, as well as eyeing the mounds of ice where the fish and other delicacies were resting.

We came here for valentines after reading the high reviews on several sites. Although we knew it was pricey, we thought it would be worth it. Our reservation time was 6pm to 730pm. The food was extremely salty, the Carpaccio and Yuku ball specifically. Additionally, I have had Carpaccio all across the US and I'm not sure what to call it. We were offered the Wagyu beef as well although it was way over priced. The two rolls we ordered, Rainbow and tuna belly were excellent but the rest was a disappointment. The cooks were very friendly and so was the server, until it was time for our reservation. At 730 they brought the check. I had literally just signed it and they took it from and then the server and manager hovered trying g to get us to leave. This would have been understandable if the restaurant was packed and there was a wait. However, there were several tables and bar seats open and no one waiting. Needless to say, we were very disappointed and don't see a need to go back when there are better places that are friendlier and not so salty and over priced.

One of the sushi bars that i do really enjoed authentic sushi...not the fusion... Really fresh, employees are nice. Recomend an open choice of the chef for sashimi (ok it going to be expensive but totally worth it)

A friend of took us here for dinner. We got the best table in the house, we had to took our shoes off. Our friend ordered for us, we tried like 10 different dishes all of them were amazing!!! Excellent service, perfect ambience, amazing food

This is not your normal Japanese Restaurant. This place has unusual items on the menu. The quality of all the food is excellent as is the service. The staff is very attentive and friendly. Do not expect to order a California Roll here, This place is special and a bit pricey.
The Best!!!
We have been coming here regularly since it opened (more than 15 years). Its food and service have been consistent and terrific. Although it is one of the best sushi and sashimi places in town, we love its robata dishes. Every time, we order grilled whole branzino fish and quails. Our other favorites are sashimi salad, fried sweet peppers, crispy chicken rolls and soft-shell crab handrolls. Then we add a couple more of their specials; it becomes a completely satisfying meal. Ready to go back just thinking about it! By the way, no reservation unless it's for 6 or more (and there is only one table for 6 or more).
