Good and plenty!

By RichAlva |

Can't go wrong if you want good food, reasonable prices. Breakfast served daily is one that will 'stick to your ribs'! Comes in 2 sizes...$5 and $7...served till 11 daily and til 1PM Sundays. Eggs, any style...with beans, potatoes and with the large one, add a tamale and choice of meat. Yummmmm... The Shrimp soup, with chucks of carrot, potato in a delicious broth is a winner...again in two sizes. Have had this with friends from NY, New Orleans, Honduras, Austin, etc., some claim it is worthy of 5 stars. Order the large size only if you can handle tureen sized meal!

We need a 3.5 rating on here!

By DJC824 |

I am tossed up on my rating. I don't think it was a 4, but better than a 3! Saturday night, and the place was pretty packed. We did get seated right away. It was very loud, makes it hard to talk without having to yell. Not a good place to go on the weekend if you want to carry on a conversation. The menu is huge! I had the CALDO DE RES - Beef and vegetable soup. Served with rice and hand-made tortillas. The beef was in really big chunks, the same with the vegetables. You need a knife to cut up the pieces because they are so large. You get a lot, so plenty to take home. Overall it was good. Our waiter was ok, but I will say it was busy. I would go again, but not on the weekend if you want to talk.

I Hunger for Teo Every Time I Go To Houston!

By Bruce H |

Have been to Teo every time I have visited Houston over the last 5 years. They never fail to deliver great food. Look around and you'll see local Hispanic families enjoying themselves and the food. Very wide range of dishes, from the simple tex-mex to many dishes more representative of the interior of Mexico. Everything done well, service friendly and quick. You can't go wrong at Teo.

Awesome beer-rita!

By Rachel |

We flew in to Houston en route to Louisiana and decided to stay overnight last minute. We stayed at the SleepInn and wanted to eat somewhere close by. This restaurant was right around the corner. They closed at 10 pm and it was a little after 8 pm on a Tuesday night. Service was fast and friendly. I had a beer-rita with a Dos XX, my fiancé had a Shiner. I had the enchiladas verdes with shredded chicken instead of grilled chicken and he had the shrimp quesadillas. Both were delicious! We also started with fresh chips n' salsa - a warm red salsa and a chilled green salsa. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. We would have stayed for the flan but it was getting late and we were full.

Good Mexican restaurant in a Mexican neighborhood

By bryanmantezoni |

This place is located in the heart of the Mexican neighborhood on airline straight. The place has average prices and the food is really good it seems to me that it was cooked by Mexican chefs, they serve fresh made tortillas and good parking spots outside. Recommended.

Average food

By Ron R |

We ordered takeout. Order was ready on time. The food was disappointing based on the reviews. Bland was the biggest problem.

Good local Tex-Mex food

By KG_TXtraveler |

This restaurant is a very popular local Tex-Mex location. The margaritas are very good, and big (about $10 - 15 for a large). The food is very good - but not light or healthy! Good for families or friends.

Good Busy Family Environment

By Andrew D |

Decent food. The margaritas are huge and worth the visit. Never been by when it isn't busy. Worth a visit.

Tex-Mex for your soul

By cryjack |

When we moved to California five years ago, we underestimated how much we'd miss Tex-Mex. So every time we go back home to Houston, we make sure to eat it as often as we can. On our most recent visit, we returned to an old favorite--Teotihuacan. It was even better than I remembered. The frozen margarita (with a bit of Gran Marnier floating on top) packed a delicious punch. The queso was creamy and wonderful, and my combo plate offered about twice as much food as I could possibly eat. All of it delicious. Service was friendly and laid back, and they didn't rush us to order even though our friends were late arriving.

Best tex mex in the heights

By Adam F |

Authentic tex mex, served quickly. There are other tex mex places in the area but this is the one to visit.

Great local place

By Michael T |

It is classic Mexican in Texas food with a huge menu everything I have tried is great with large portions. The house margaritas are good too which is not true of many Mexican restaurants. Large wood tables fill the place with a fun and eclectic crowd from locals to the after game groups.

very good

By gailhouston |

Would have given "five" stars, but they lost our order. Took over 30 minutes to bring out our food and that is after we said something to the server. People coming in after us were getting served and we were still waiting. Beef and chicken fajitas -- YUMMY!! Onions very sweet and tender and rice was delicious too! Will definitely return as prices were very reasonable for everything that you got!

So many delicious options!

By Ednaisa |

The food was absolutely delicious! Big portions, good service and so many options on the menu. Margaritas are really tasty and the tequila options are very good.

Great Food and Margaritas!

By Caliducas |

Most of the food sold here is excellent. I especially like the beef fajita quesadillas. Their house margarita is cheap and very good. Most importantly, the tequila they use in the margaritas does not give me a headache.

Excellent Queso

By HoustonBrent |

This is my favorite Mexican food restaurant! My favorite is the Silvia plate and Queso as an appetizer. Everyone I've ever taken here has loved it!

Delicious food, friendly happy staff

By Emily W |

Layover in Houston and decided to have some Tex mex. Visited this restaurant after reading online reviews and it did not disappoint. Hearty sized meals, freshly cooked and delicious flavours. Such kind and attentive staff too. Will definitely be popping back if I visit Houston again.

Terrible service, authentic food

By F&W Critic |

The service was brutal.... but the food was actually pretty good. The house margarita was really gross, it tasted like a really bad sangria. The washrooms and the interior of the restaurant needed an intense scrub down.

Breakfast in the afternoon

By Quentin S |

Nice place. Service is quick. Staff friendly and the food had always been good. I will be back!!¡!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!¡!!!!!!!!!!!

Really good food and service

By Paul G |

We go to different Teotihuacan locations and the food is consistently good throughout the chain. We love the Fajitas and always get the plate for two, which feeds about five. They have Bohemia beer...and this says a lot about them. The service was quick and efficient, and the prices very reasonable, especially for the serving size, which was huge. Great menu.

Don't Miss this Great Mexican Restaurant!

By Divegal |

The pictures in the menu look exactly like the food you are served....and is delicious! We started with chips, salsa & queso dip. The red salsa was a little spicy, the green might have had avocado in it but both were great and the red salsa was tamed by the queso. My husband had his typical cheese enchiladas and I opted for a chicken dish that had tomatoes, onions, mozzarella cheese, jalapenos and olives....both entrees were some of the best Mexican food we've ever had. The margaritas did not disappoint either. The décor was typical Mexican...low key not fancy at all...booths along the window and wooden tables and chairs throughout the rest of the restaurant. It was not very large and did not have a separate bar area if you had to wait on a table. Our waitress was attentive and I don't think she spoke much English....but not a problem. The restaurant is well worth visiting. We were around the MD Anderson area and even in heavy 5 o'clock traffic it only took about 25 minutes.

Great Mexican food! (But not dog friendly)

By MaltaBound |

We have reviewed this restaurant before, and we still think the food is some of the best authentic Mexican food. Breakfast is great (fantastic cheese tamales!), lunch is great (build your own meal), and dinner is great (exceptional margaritas). The one downside is that they have a patio and it is NOT dog friendly. This is the only restaurant in the Heights area that has a patio and doesn't allow dogs. They are actually not in the Heights, and apparently don't care about getting Heights business - in the Heights you can't find a patio restaurant that doesn't allow dogs...I have a list of 15 of them.

Good start.

By AlanSummers1111 |

Micheladas tasted like cheap spaghetti sauce. A little to creative with the spices. Salsa verde was crisp and flavorful with just the right amount of heat. Dinner was typical tex-mex oversized portions coated in cheese.

Bad experience

By Bluebird112 |

If you like Loud go here. The staff was fine but the atmosphere was poor. Very very loud in spite of not being crowded. Also not particularly clean. Food just ok. I will not go back. Recommend you look for other possibilities.

Order to go

By Kevin S |

Great Food. Bad service, dirty bathroom, and horrible parking. The food however is great just get it to go.

First visit

By HouMSW |

Despite my years in Houston, it took a move out of town to get me here with friends. Evidently the frozen margaritas are fabulous, because my three friends went through at least six. The menu is very extensive, making it difficult to decide. My food was very tasty, although I'm not sure it stands out from the many other quality Mexican restaurants in Houston. They have a welcome option for a salad instead of rice and beans. You should definitely go, if for no other reason than to check it off your list.

Favorite Mexican joint

By Lucasmomma |

My family has been coming here for years. The green salsa is my favorite hands down and their fajitas, enchiladas are all delicious - never had a bad meal. Tortillas are delicious & you won't be let down by a gold margarita!

Bring your ear plugs

By SWaN |

We went on a weekday with a group from the office. To say that it was loud was an understatement, and every 15 minutes it seemed that they had to sing Happy Birthday to someone and make them wear a hat (that I hope had been disinfected between users). While the food was OK, it wasn't anything to write home about (one of my tortillas was hard as a rock). And it took us 15 minutes to find a parking spot. Overall, I was pretty disappointed, although the waiter was nice.

Great Food/Great Value

By Bkwinstin |

We have been to Teotihucacan several times over the past 3 months. Every time the service and food is great. We have had a range of the food (my 5 year old even had a hamburger--I know--except that is was delicious as well) including the mixed fajitas (family favorite). The margaritas are very good as well. As others said, always crowded never a long wait.

Our new favorite Mexican restaurant if you cannot go to El Tiempo

By HoustonNative53 |

So just moved into the Heights and since you cannot find parking at Andy's we go down the road. Love cheese enchiladas and add a fried egg easy over. Salads fabulous which is so silly! Nachos amazing! Corn and flour tortillas home made! Just looking forward to trying more of menu!

Good authentic breakfast

By 56003Richard |

Good food and you will leave very full. Good selection and great coffee. Great place for a casual Mexican breakfast

Excellent service and food

By kat702 |

This restaurant had good staffing on a Saturday mid morning. I'm not a huge fan of Mexican food but this place impressed me with the food, service and prices.

Great Excperience at Teotihuacan Cafe

By Dan H |

Visit Houston about twice a year and have dined at several Tex-Mex places. First time here. Will not be the last. Came on a busy Saturday evening with party of six. No wait. Very good food and reasonably priced. Much better deal than some of the better known places. Atmosphere was very nice and service was quick and friendly. I had the seafood enchiladas which were excellent. All-in-all an excellent experience. Will definitely return on my next trip to Houston.

Excellent

By TexasGoblue |

Very busy place / chicken pablano and quesadillas were both excellent. No draft beer is only downside for me - went on a Friday night - lots of families - kind of loud.

Excellent food with good service

By Markus L |

Went there on a Saturday night, it was very buzy and it took a some time to find a parking spot and get a table but it was totally worth it. The food was just great and the prices were good as well. Furthermore, service was nice. Definitely reccomended.

A little salty for my taste

By elynoremarie |

Little disappointed. Maybe ill go back to try other didsh. Has cool patio, service was okay and the grilled quial i ordered is a little too salty for my taste. I like La Tapatia's grilled quial

Homemade flour & corn tortillas - great breakfast!

By Laura M |

Hadn't been here in years as we'd moved quite a ways away, but now that we're closer into town, we will be frequenting Teotihuacan more regularly. Food looked great, tasted great, and was reasonably priced. We particularly enjoyed their homemade corn and homemade flower tortillas. My husband had the omelet, and I had the chilaquiles - both plates were delicious!

Pretty good Mexican food

By poirot8345 |

Pretty easy to find restaurant with plenty of parking. Large restaurant with ample seating. The entree food was good, but not 5 star great. My husband's family is from New Mexico, so he is very particular about his Mexican food. He said the entree food was "okay". However, the sopapilla was excellent. It was simply made and came out fresh to our table. it didn't have many of the extras other restaurant provide, such as powdered sugar, chocolate syrup, etc. The fact that is was simple made it even better. We loved it!

Good Food

By Speedy77089 |

Great Mexican food and lots of it. The breakfast paltes are great and there is plenty of food. The waitress was very attentive and took good care of us eventhough the place was packed on Sunday morning.

Best TexMex restaurant in Houston

By punchcard |

I think this is the best TexMex restaurant in Houston. The prices are good, the portions are huge, and wait staff are great. For lunch today, I had the Pescado de Nono (fish and shrimp in an aluminum foil envelope with a very tasty sauce) and my wife had the Pollo Poblano (huge chicken breast with an outstanding cream sauce). The tortillas are hand-made and the guacamole top notch. As mentioned before, the portions are huge and there is a take-home styrofoam box in the fridge beckoning me now to stop typing and resume our lunch.

Delicious Mexican Food!!

By Charlene H |

You get unlimited free fresh tortilla chips with salsa to start. My cousin and I ordered Parillada "la chaparra" platter for US $28.99 - 4 different types of meat: shrimp, beef, chicken and sausage. The menu stated it was a meal for two however its more like a platter for four. Could not finish it but the food was great. If you are a meat lover this definitely something you want to try.

Great Tex Mex

By Viola Grant |

The enchiladas we ordered were awesome and we were seated very quickly, and the staff was very friendly with great recommendations.

Food was good. Service was better.

By Bobdec |

Fairly nice tex-mex. Good margaritas! Really good service. Its a bit noisy inside, but it kind of adds to the ambiance. Will certainly go back!

Excellent Choice for Great Mexican Food

By grslover |

Paradilla can't be beat. Handmade tortillas are excellent. Just be sure you are hungry when you arrive - you'll leave here full & planning a return visit.

Decent Mexican

By 56003Richard |

Good service and good food. Can't complain. We went for breakfast and everything was good. Very affordable

High quality food, excellent service

By Local50 |

The menu is huge, food was good, and margaritas were superb. Their red and green salsas served with chips were awesome! You will not leave here hungry! The service was perfect. Would highly recommend.

Yum, Yum and Oh yeah....YUM!!!!!

By Susie M |

Havent had lunch or dinner here, but we stopped in for breakfast on Sunday and are hooked. Definitely a place we will drive in from Cypress to have again. The breakfast menu was simple but had just what you would want from a Mexican breakfast selction. I had the chilaquiles (eggs scrambled with fried tortillas and topped with ranchera salsa and cheese) and this came with beans, a tamale, four sausage links and fried potatoes for about $6. It was an insane amount of food, and everything on the plate was delicious. I love a deal like this, when we take my 3yr old he and I can easily share that plate and have some leftover. My husband had the machicado and eggs plate and was just as happy. The red and green salsas that come to the table are legit, although they could be a touch hotter. I loved this place and am looking forward to trying out the lunch/dinner menu next time.

Excellente!

By Van E |

This quaint, yet always bustling, neighborhood restaurant mere inches off I-45 never fails to satisy. It is incredibly popular among the locals, always a good sign. The margaritas are authoritative and delicious. The portions of every menu item will leave you asking for a doggie bag. Wonderfully authentic and not pretentious. Highly recommend!

Authentic Mexican Food

By Robert L |

A geat place to go and have a great meal, with the drink to go with it. This place has grown with the times and is truly a good first choice for food in the area.

Teotihuacan Mexican Cafe is worth the time to get there, so good and enjoy..

By Don W |

My second enjoyable meal at Teotihuacan Mexican Cafe. The atmosphere is great. The food is wonderful. This is my Aunt Lee's long time favorite place to eat.. There are plenty of choices on the menu. The servers are very attentive. Are you near or going to Houston? Take the time to enjoy a superior Mexican Restaurant experience. Love it..

Off the Chart

By dehill35 |

Great neighborhood restaurant. Service was excellent. Food was served as ordered. Our group had beef and chicken fajitas and a avocado stuffed with chicken. All was very, very good. Did I mention the margaritas. Best I've ever had. You have to give this place a try. Great food, better service, and extremely reasonable. You won't be disappointed.

Casual atmosphere!

By Alex D |

Good food , good service. Waiter was on top of stuff on the two occasions we went to. Had a table for a big group on a Saturday night for graduation and didn't take more than 5 minutes to get a table.

Best Mexican Food in Houston

By Mario G |

If you exclude Hugo's... This is not a place for great ambiance. The back room is hot and noisy. The main restaurant is always filled with street vendors selling flowers or trinkets. So why put up with this place. Probably because you will get a meal that is better than El Tiempo or Original Ninfas at half the price. The salsas red and green are better. The fijitas for 2 are more flavorful than either of those places and cost only slightly more than the fajitas for one. overall its a great diner for minor cost.

Don’t judge a book by the cover

By josh10214 |

Everyone one here is hospitable and cordial,I come here when i just want the “whole enchilada “for the lowest price .Tex Mex s is made great here, chips are always hot and crispy and the salsa is fresh made, I can only judge what I have eaten so with that said I’ve eaten the rib fajita plate called “ el pastor” which comes sizzling on a iron plate accompanied with rice and beans with homemade flour or corn tortillas, the chicken flautas are made to order and come with a filling of chicken and cheese , the fajitas nachos large order is a meal alone and are delish, the appetizer “queso flameado with chorizo” is great! .... but what’s Mexican food with out Margaritas omg! Be prepared cause there Great here and if you really like margaritas your sure to like these, can’t speak for everything else here but the people I’ve brought never complained and still come , the place stays pack but if your looking to get hot fresh Mexican food and tasty top shelve margaritas for a low price then this place is for you ! Don’t let the large crowd discourage you ,the wait is not long ,just know they will accommodate any crowd size and are children friendly! I should know I let my child run around with his cousins, hey it’s okay once your inside you get that little Mexico feeling, Cheers Amigo!

Our best breakfast stop.

By MaltaBound |

We enjoy eating chili rellenos here for dinner, but the breakfasts are ever so delicious. The specials are very affordable, and a bigger grande (big) platter is offered, also at a good price. But, our best breakfast treat is the included tamale on the platters. It is a masa covered tamale with some sort of cheese and mild pepper filling. We eat here just to get those tamales!!!

Best Authentic Mexican Food in 100 miles!

By Tracy T |

The best Mexican seafood and enchiladas! You must ask to sit in Raul’s section! He gives you the very best service and help with the menu. Fantastic hot sauce and food!

Order the Right Thing

By JoBoxer555 |

Went here for lunch last Sunday. Seated quickly with no wait, at 1:30 pm,you must wear a mask to enter. We had a good table in one of the back rooms, which is generally quieter. Chips and salsa are good, and the waitstaff is attentive and kind. My son got one of their specialty dinners, and I feel this is the way to go. Each of the items was fresh and had good flavor. I was not as hungry, and decided on 2 ground beef soft tacos. I would not order this again; the tortillas they used were too large, the meat not well drained, so by the time I tried to pick up a tortilla to eat, they were like soggy, wet washcloths with no flavor. There was very little seasoning in the meat, and the dish was a fail. I peeled off the top of the tortilla (not much), that I could eat, and ate them with the rice and beans, which were okay. Just a poor choice, so avoid this dish. Might be better with fajita meat, but they only offered it with chicken or ground beef. I would definitely go again, but order the queso fundido that comes with their delicious tortillas on the side, or get a specialty meal, as my son did.

A Houston Institution and well deserved

By Justin K |

Living overseas, our first meal anytime we touch down in Houston is always Tex-Mex - and more times than not we find ourselves at Teotihuacan. The Margaritas, the Queso, the perfectly cooked meats - all the very best you could ask for. Personal favourites on the expansive menu are the La Paola or the La Maria but you can't go wrong.

Pollo Poblano!! I could eat it for breakfast it's so good

By Jennie B |

We've been coming to this restaurant for about 20 years, and it's our go to Mexican place if we want something comfortable, delicious and easy. Last night, for the first time, I ordered the Pollo Poblano - other favorites include Cancun Shrimp and El Juan - and it is sooooo delicious!! Good-sized portion so had leftovers for lunch and could barely wait until 11:00 to eat it was so good. Great Tex Mex!

USE to be great but It’s NOT Consistent

By josh10214 |

Just returned for a second time since my last Submitted Review and sad to say , the head cooks must have retired , the two times I spent my hard working money on the sames plates I ordered for my family the meat was near rancid , I felt bad for the great review I gave them the last time and hate to mis lead anyone ,the grilled shrimp next table over spelled “fishy” no excuse for Houston Restaurants were less then 50 miles to Galveston for fresh seafood, can’t afford to spend my money here I will save my chances for Las Vegas, maybe 3rd times a charm but not on my account ...Oh say Goodnight or Thank you to the Guy at the check out desk at the door entry because he does not greet coming in or out just counts money ... poor management and hospitality skills ,, hats off to all the hard workers their they are cordial and polite!

Yum, yum and yum!!

By Mandajay |

Yum, yum and yum!! We ordered all sorts of enchiladas, and they were perfect! Highly recommend the chili con queso and the homemade tortillas.

Great Mexican Food

By ramerog5051 |

We went there for lunch and were not disappointed! Everybody ordered something different and we were all pleased with our selections. I ate breakfast here years ago and they offer one of the best Mexican breakfasts to be found. They serve good, authentic, Mexican food.

Fabulous Mexican food!!

By Cate958 |

My husband and I eat a lot of Mexican food and consider ourselves knowledgeable about what is fair, good, and great. This place was awesome, and we will be going back very soon.

Terrific TexMex in north Houston

By Jwkruz |

We met friends from the Woodlands at this restaurant based on positive reviews from Trip Advisor. We were staying in the medical district and it was in between. Extensive menu, great atmosphere and helpful staff. The prices were very reasonable. They had many different steak dinner combinations with special toppings and sauces. So tender and delicious! 4 adults and 2 kids and the bill was $82, including drinks. We had the "beer-gar-rita" where they tip a beer bottle upside into a huge margarita glass - one was plenty as we had to drive afterwards. I highly recommend this place for people looking for great food at a reasonable price. We were unfamiliar with the neighborhood and it was dark out, it seems to be just off the edge of a light industrial area. But no concerns about safety. Would go back again for sure.

Good place for groups

By Lorelai84 |

We went with several couples and another couple in town for the weekend. The atmosphere on the enclosed patio section was good for groups if you like it slightly loud with laughter and talk. We ended up getting simple dishes - fajitas and margaritas and loved it. I'd be back again if in the area.

GO HERE NOW!

By Stan S |

If you are in Houston, you should be visiting this restaurant on a regular basis. I found out about this from a business associate. I don't visit Houston without a trip to Teotihuacan Cafe, unfortunately to the detriment of learning about other new restaurants. I have had several meals here and cannot find anything to complain about. In fact, anything I write will be a mere shadow of how good the food is at this establishment.

Go-to Tex-Mex for the value

By Alicia C |

Love the stuffed fried avocado! This is my favorite go-to Tex-Mex. I've been probably 20 times for dinner and it never disappoints. They also have great lunch specials and fast service. My favorite are the lunch-portion chicken fajitas.

Consistently delicious!

By Giselle L |

Consistently visit this restaurant with my family for years and have yet to be disappointed or to not be full! From the beef fajitas to the enchiladas, you cannot go wrong. Definitely affordable and comfortable atmosphere for the whole family.

CONSISTENTLY Great Food

By MaltaBound |

I tried the chili relleno, a poblano pepper stuffed with cheese and mushrooms, a perfect meatless dish. I have ordered this before and love it. The margaritas are tasty, and the happy hour Mon to Fri lasts until 6pm. Last week beer was offered on the happy hour, but the waiter this week related it was just the House margaritas. Perhaps he didn’t know, but little does it matter, the margaritas are great.

Best Tex-Mex breakfast, best lunch, best dinner!

By Diane K |

So so good. The breakfasts come with homemade cheese tamales that are the best. Lunch is great with the build a meal, an entree where you can choose two meat entrees. Finally, nice dinner since there are happy hour priced margaritas! This is true Tex Mex food!

Fish!

By Ladytraveler74 |

They have a lot of fish dishes and every one that I've tried has been delicious. The people are friendly and the atmosphere is very comfortable. Lots of families.

Delicious Tex-Mex

By bodyfruit |

We love this place. This is our go-to restaurant for delicious Tex-Mex. My son and husband love the beef fajitas and I like their enchiladas, tortas, shrimp burrito, and many other items including their delicious red and green salsas. Their margaritas are great and the service is excellent. We eat here at least once a week.

Seriously Great Mexican Food at an Affordable Price!

By Russell77017 |

What a gem of a place! Had lunch with a friend. Hadn't ever eaten there before - I now regret that! Nothing bad on the menu unless you don't like Mexican food... Prices are great! Fast, friendly service. What else is there to say?

Great food, reasonable prices

By Melody Z |

My husband and I have been going here for years. The food is great and the sangria is the best in the city. Be prepared for a wait as they are now often crowded during dinner hours. The service can also be a little subpar at times but the food is usually worth it.

Excellent

By AmberJewel128 |

The food was great! Went with a friend and had a great time. Everything was great from the chips&salsa, entrees to the margaritas. If I ever get down to Houston again, would definitely return.

Good food but pricey

By AustinH6913 |

A bit overpriced in my opinion. Although we did get our money's worth, the same foods we got could have been purchased for cheaper elsewhere.

Houston's Hidden Gem For Mexican Food

By Brian A |

I've never been happier to have had my dinner plans fall through. After our first two dinner spots failed us (due to unexpected closures) we arrived at Teotihuacan as our third option. Sometimes, the third string option comes through and saves the day. For starters, the restaurant is in a part of town that's not the most glamorous, which is exactly how you know the food is going to be worth it. Upon arriving at this eye-catching pink building, we knew we were in for something good. When you walk in, the place does appear a bit small, but this was most likely due to the place being pretty full on a Thursday night (we went around 7:30 PM). We were seated right away and given the option to sit wherever. In no time, our waiter was at our table taking our drink order. Let me just say that the service is A++. We had the best server who was steadily cracking jokes all night and even offering suggestions when it came to deciding between two options. The chips and salsa alone almost made us too full to enjoy our entree...almost! The red salsa is hot both spice and temp-wise, but was completely irresistible. The green salsa was quite the opposite and added a refreshing contrast. I ended up with the Enchiladas Rojas. OMG! The beef was cooked to perfection and had a ton of flavor. The red sauce combined with the melted cheese on top was unbelievable. Even the sides, the refried beans and rice, had me ready to shout. The gf had the enchiladas verdes, which we both decided were just as good. It all came down to what you were in the mood for. I will be having dreams about those enchiladas for nights to come. As a side note, we will definitely be back to try the fajitas, which passed by our table all night long.

Fun tex-mex

By longhornsims |

Went for the first time a few nights ago with friends to this traditional, neighborhood Mexican restaurant. It was packed, but we only had to wait ten minutes or so and grabbed a spot on the outside patio. Frozen margaritas are excellent -- not so cloyingly sweet like most. Service was very attentive. The fajitas were good as well. This place is very casual, not trendy. It can also be a little loud. Perfect place to go with friends.

Average Mexican food

By Valerie O |

Went here for dinner. The food was pretty standard for what you would expect with the zillions of Mexican restaurants in the Houston area. Our server was hard working, but not very personable. It's also not in the best part of town, so maybe it is one of the better restaurants for that area?

Favorite in Houston

By Katelyn M |

My husband and I love Teotihuacan. Reasonably priced, authentic food. It can get crowded on weekend nights but the wait goes quickly. Great margs too!

Good Mexican Food

By Allen C |

We visit this restaurant every time we are in Houston. We have friends that live nearby, and they shared this gem with us. The atmosphere is very good, certainly family friendly, pleasant, and inviting. The staff is friendly and attentive. The food is good, the margaritas are good too. Parking can be a little challenging, but there is more space at the back of the restaurant. I love the enchiladas here, but everything we have tried is good. I do recommend this restaurant if you are in the area.

Not much to look at, but great TexMex!

By John H. |

Teotihuacan is another Hole-in-the-wall restaurant that has great food (tex-Mex), but you wouldn't know it just passing by without hearing it from a patron. They serve great Mexican breakfasts with the best tamales in town (tamales only served with breakfast)... Enchiladas Verdes (chicken) are my favorite. There's a reason this joint is always packed.

Great Neighborhood Mexican

This place is definitely my favorite Tex Mex in the Heights. Very authentic. Not so gringo. I love the grilled fish dish. It comes with garlic sauce that I love. It is a great place for families. Enough action to be good people watching too. This is my go to Mexican. My husband loves the beef fajitas and it never disappoints.

Great tex mex food at reasonable prices

By Joe P |

A group of friends, including some actual Spanish speakers guided us to this restaurant. Several friends go there every month or two on Saturday's for breakfast. Excellent breakfast and service and very reasonable. Highly recommend.

A Little Disappointing

By Zola C |

We have eaten at the West Bellfort location many times. They make my absolute favorite spinach enchiladas. However, the Airline location puts a ranchero sauce on the spinach enchiladas instead of the creamy mushroom sauce used at Bellfort. My husband's Fajita Poblana (beef) was delicious. The red and green salsas were fresh and the service impeccable.

Houston Dining 2016

By Spurgeon B |

PRO's: This restaurant gives you the complete Tex-Mex package for a family run restaurant with excellent margaritas and loads of different dish selections. Good value and large portions makes me wonder why I don't come here more often. Excellent service. The staff is willing to make menu changes to please the customer. CON's: If you come at peak dining times the parking lot can get crowded. SUMMARY:This is the real deal for quality Mexican food dishes for all tastes. I need to remember to return more in the future.

Awesome Authentic Non-fancy TexMex Lunch Special

By Oceanstheway |

$10 sizzling fajita lunch special with all the trimmings....need I say more? It was yummy, perfect portions, and the waitress was friendly and professional.

YUM

By pollyanywhere |

YUM! A friend said this has been her favorite in town and I must come. OMG. So good! Had baby back ribs and Wednesday special; do NOT miss the flour tortillas (I would be happy with 10 plain ones)!

One of 2 locations, both are excellent!

By MaltaBound |

We love this neighborhood Heights-area Mexican restaurant. For lunch we order the Build-a-meal, which gives you two choices out of many plus rice and beans. The green sause if very good. We return here time after time. The fajita salad is huge and reasonable priced!

Great neighborhood restaurant with excellent food.

By bryanmantezoni |

This restaurant is seated almost at the end of Airline street towards the north end. Serves great food and it is clean, the customer service is excellent and they have plenty of parking outside. Recommended.

Good Mexican food!

By SarahFromTexas |

The parking lot was full! There is more than one dining room, so if the front is full, there is more seating through the door behind the cashier, and a large porch outside. Service was fast, and the food was good. The combination plates are large with plenty of food.

Good Food!

By claudineinht |

We have been coming to Teotihuacan for years and the food is consistently very good! Their green salsa is my favorite. We usually order snapper cilantro and it is plenty to eat for two people.

Good food, good service, loud and bustling crowd at Airline Drive location

By William D |

My first trip to this location. Went with family on a Friday night after the movies. At 9 pm it was jumping. Very loud and very busy. Service was excellent. Both red and green salsa served with chips. Red was wonderful. Warm with a slight tangy bite, Can't eat the avocado base salsa but everyone else enjoyed it. I ordered the chicken enchiladas verdes. Tthey were very good. Everyone ordered different dishes and felt that quality and quantity were excellent. Huge menu so we will be back to try more dishes.

My kind of place.

By Keith77429 |

Best salsa (spicy) and the red corn tortillas are the best. The atmosphere is great and the staff is very friendly.

Great food and quick excellent service.

By TexasWes |

This place is always busy but I rarely have to wait for a table. The food is excellent and is really quick to come out.

The cheese enchiladas were horrible

By BIG D |

The cheese enchiladas were horrible. The cheese was like a massive blob and the tortillas it was wrapped in was heavy and thick. It is downright hard to describe it was like it was old or had been sitting forever I really can't say. The refried beans were nothing special. We enjoyed the complimentary red hot sauce and chips the green was not creamy and lacked for flavor. The beef quesadillas were very good but the guacamole had small cut up onions that made it impossible for me to eat. I thought the prices were higher than normal for the dishes we ordered. I can't say I'll ever be back there are plenty of choices right around the next corner. The cheese enchiladas was really quite like nothing I have ever seen or tasted.

Great Food!

By Terry |

Ate outside on the patio. It was very busy but we got in and were served quickly. Had fajitas for two. Great beef and chicken fajitas. Good guacamole and queso. Margaritas were huge and tasty.

Best TexMex in Houston

By Kayvctx |

This building had 3 previous owners. This current group has built a huge clientele. At lunch, Friday nights, and various times,, it is packed. The breakfast is my favorite. They have a Build-a-Meal where you can get 2 choices plus rice and beans at lunch. This is food Mexican-Americans like, as it is well spiced, not bland. I always take guests here to taste real Mexican food.

Great Tex Mex and very affordable!

By kkitty36 |

Ate here for lunch and was surprised at how much food we got for only $7.99. It was enough for 2 meals and all of it very good. Service was great and very fast! Also loved the green salsa and chips!

breakfast

By Mike A |

Came for breakfast with the girl. Ordered queso flameado which is the bomb!. But when I got my breakfast the bacon was old rancid and the Amigas had to much cheese. Unfortunately, I have been here multiple times and never had this bad of a breakfast. I'll probably be back one more time but hopefully it won't end with this rancid taste in my mouth. Also I posted a Noah's Arc of the cheese overload.

Great Service with very good food

By RoadKill2442 |

We went to Teotihuacan (Pronounced Te-o-tee-wa-can) on a whim. We have eaten there before, but are not usually on that side of town often. The food is excellent and the Service is even better. Our Server always had a smile on her face that seemed genuine instead of forced. When she noticed that a customer was observing her, the smile would immediately appear. She was very polite and respectful of our space. She stayed on top of refilling our drinks, but was not pushy or bothersome. Due to the time of day, she gave us their breakfast menu. After several minutes of trying to decide what we wanted, we explained that we were not really breakfast people. She immediately took the menus and gave us their normal lunch menu. I ordered their special of the day, Mole Enchiladas and the wife ordered the Chef Salad. The food looked exactly like the photos in the menu, and were of a healthy portion. While waiting for the main course, our hostess brought chips and some of the best tasting verde salsa I have had in a long time. There was also a spicy salsa that was served warm and just as tasty. Looking around the restaurant, there are painted murals on the walls that reflect ancient Aztec culture. There are several items hanging from the ceiling and the bar is tastefully decorated. Apparently, the restaurant is larger than the area we were seated in because we saw several groups of people go through another door with hostesses. The only real complaint is the lack of maneuverable space in the parking lot. The lot is small and backs to Airline Dr., which is a busy street. Don't let the Drive designation fool you. We arrived at what seemed to be the perfect time for a Friday morning because the closer to noon it got, the more people started arriving. I can see why, with the great service and tasty food. We even waited for quite a while for the manager to become available so we could tell him about the great experience we had. While waiting, another host engaged in small talk with us so the wait did not seem as long as it actually was. If you are in the Houston Heights area and craving Mexican food, skip Taco Bell and stop into Teotihuacan.

Best Tex Mex in Houston - Authentic

By Chas B |

This is the best Tex Mex in Houston. The service is good, everything from the tortillas to red / green dip sauce is great from the beginning. The service is fast and courteous, and the entrees are all good. I do suggest the Pollo del Mar as it has the sauce on top and I have never found another restaurant that can match it. The rice and beans are also good. Keep up the good work, we have made you a regular visit.

Great Tex Mex. Fresh Quality Eats

By Zack L |

Fresh Mexican food that never disappoints. The food is always fresh. The salsa warm temperature wise. From the Chef Salad to the Short Rib plate you cannot go wrong. Sunday Brunch rocks as well, just get there early or plan to wait a bit.

CONSISTENTLY Great Food

By MaltaBound |

Breakfast review here this morning. The chilaquiles were cooked perfectly. The chips that were mixed in weren’t from the free chip basket, but were fresh fried and hot. When the bill came I noticed that there were two “black coffees” on the bill, which we did order. But, I thought it odd that the drink wasn’t just listed as “coffee”, thinking perhaps they had “Mexican coffee” as well. That ever so special of coffee infused with real cinnamon and a touch of brown sugar. I asked the manager if they served Mexican coffee and he related that they do. To my surprise, he brought us a free cup to try. OMG, it was delicious! This place just moved up a notch, if that’s possible! Last time here in the evening, I tried the chili relleno, a poblano pepper stuffed with cheese and mushrooms, a perfect meatless dish. I have ordered this before and love it. The margaritas are tasty, and the happy hour Mon to Fri lasts until 6pm.

Teotihuacan - Great for breakfast!

By Sue S |

I finally got the chance to try out Teotihuacan and stopped for breakfast. Large restaurant with lots of parking. Friendly staff - ordered chips to start while waiting for another couple. Crisp, fresh, hot and great salsa too. I had the scrambled eggs, beef fajita with beans, tamale and flour tortillas - the fajita was chargrilled with a wonderful flavor and the home made, right off the grill tortillas were great with the eggs and beans. Delicious. Others had the Chilaquiles verdes with sausage - (my choice next time -yum); the other two had the fried eggs with bacon, roasted potatoes and tortillas. Good food, great service, excellent prices. We will be back.

Original but not Great

By zepper50 |

Located just off worth Main on Airline it is easy to get to this eatery and the parking is ample and free. Tables and booths available. Quick and polite service. Broad menu of expected Mexicasn and Tex-Mex items. Food good but not great and flavors not exciting.

Consistently good

By Tanya L |

A family favorite since we first tried this neighborhood gem almost 20 years ago. Consistently good and the only Tex-mex restaurant I can recommend without exception.

Best Fajitas ever

By DSergi |

I have been coming to Teothuacan for years. The place is always buzzing and the food is unbelievable. The parradilla with garlic shrimp, sausage and a pound of mixed fajitas is one of my all time favorites. The fajitas are tasty, not over salted and tender. The garlic shrimp are tender and garlicky. The corn tortillas are a must, freshly made, warm and perfect.

Mainstream Tex-Mex

By Cachims |

Not the most authentic but a very solid lunch. The place is HUGE and they were full during our late afternoon stop (2:00 PM arrival) so they have a solid following. Food and service were good, parking is a challenge.

Phenomenal Mexican Food in Houston...

By joshua15 |

...you really can't go wrong here. It's authentic Mexican food complimented by some dangerously good margaritas. Extremely cost effective way to enjoy a night out with friends.

Traditional Mexican Cafe

By sherri p |

If you grew up in Texas you're at home here immediately. Old, mismatched wooden flooors, tables, chairs, booth backs; ochre walls with brightly colored Mexican pottery dishes and animals clinging; TVs mounted in the corners; red plastic, paper lined baskets filled to overflowing with fresh, warm chips. It's close quarters and noisy but that's exactly what you expect from a TexMex cafe. Guac was fresh although a bit heavy on the onions for my taste and husband said it could have been spicier. The green sauce and salsa made up for that though. Our particular server wasn't exactly friendly but she was efficient and the staff wore traditional brightly colored shirts, neatly tucked and ties, all of them doing their jobs quickly. Husband had seafood burrito that he said was stuffed with plenty of shrimp and tasty. I had tomatillo enchiladas; sauce was perky and the chicken, although cubed which threw me at first, was seasoned lightly, faintly fajita-flavored and more than adequate. Rice was fluffy and not all TexMex rice is good, but this was and was not treated as an afterthought. Refried beans needed salt; in fact, all of the dishes could have used more salt. Small complaint. Overall, I liked the place. The portions were quite large and the prices quite reasonable. We'll be back.

YUM!

You can't go wrong here. This is absolutely the tastiest MexTex eatery in Houston.

String broken

By Patricia B |

We have eaten at Teo many times and loved it but last night the experience was way below our expectations. Our waiter was indifferent and made errors on our order. Our salsa was not refilled even after we asked, instead of extra peppers with our fajitas we received none until I got out of my seat to go and look for our waiter to re request them. We received corn tortillas when we had asked for flour. It was all straightened out but only after our sizzling fajitas were room temperature. As this was our first negative outing at Teo we will give them another try but we will be wary. Our server was not a rookie so he must have just been having a bad night.

Casual Sunday lunch

By John M |

This was a very good authentic Mexican restaurant with a very large menu. I had the El Silvia(cheese enchilada, beef fajita soft taco, shredded chicken hard taco) the whole thing was excellent. We didn’t have any Rita’s today but they looked good and are rumored to have an excellent Minchelada. Service was average (host at front was kind of arrogant younger guy)

Great experience

By paoawol |

Went here after a long day working in Houston, based on good reviews on Yelp. The full parking lot, on a Tuesday night, was a good sign. Despite that, there was no wait for two and we were enjoying the spicy salsa quickly. Cold beer in a chilled mug (with all day Tuesday happy hour pricing!) hit the spot, and then I ordered La Betty, skirt steak covered in browned onions with one cheese enchilada. Best part? Legit tortillas - fluffy corn and perfectly browned flour. I ate way more than my share. Good, quick service as well. Had never heard of this place before, but would absolutely go back next time I have to go to Houston.

Delicious Tex-Mex, not expensive, but TERRIBLE parking...

By ZeroTX |

I've been here numerous times, because it is the favorite restaurant of a good friend. The food is quite tasty, if not somewhat of the typical Tex-Mex you'll find at many places in Houston (typically Tex-Mex in Houston is THE BEST in the world and Teotihuacan is no exception). If you like Tex-Mex fare, which includes a lot of heavy food, cheese, rice, beans, etc, then you'll love Teotihuacan. I would recommend the Ranchero chicken (maybe they call it Pollo Ranchero, either way), and ask for CORN tortillas, which they make in-house (delicious!). If you were looking for real straight-up MEXICAN food, this is not the place. For that, you generally need to look at TAQUERIAS in Houston, not places that refer to themselves as "Mexican restaurant," because most are Tex-Mex Oh, the BAD: The parking at Teotihuacan is TERRRRRIBLE.... There are grossly inadequate spaces for the number of people who come here, and what they do have is TIGHT and you have a strong chance of getting door dings. If you're like me, protective of my car, which costs a large percentage of my income, I do NOT like that.... So if you're lucky enough to find a space, you must be parked uber close to another car.... that stinks. Based on that alone, I never choose this restaurant.... I only go here for my friend.

Awesome Food

By csteffie30 |

My first visit here, everything was excellent, some of the best Carnitas I have ever tasted, the chili relleno was good as well. Service was fast and the prices were good. Best sopapillas I have had in a while. Will definitely be back.

Awesome food, inexpensive prices

By Michael W |

The first time a friend and I ate there, our bill was under $30 for 2 entrees, one ice tea, and two margaritas. Excellent food, but our downfall was the warm (temperature wise) red salsa and the cool green salsa. It was so good we were Forced to eat all of the chips, and all of the salsa. We were so stuffed we could barely move. Highly recommend this place.

Good Lunch!

By Adam C |

Great food and service. There was plenty of space for the people in the office to enjoy the lunch. Thank you!

Long-time Favorite

By Melody Z |

My husband and I have been going to Teotihuacan for years. It is one of our favorites for excellent Tex-Mex at a low price. Although its popularity is growing and it is increasingly difficult to go without a bit of a wait, we continue to return because we know we will love the food, the margaritas and the sangria.

Wonderful Lunch

By Mammo516 |

I love Mexican food. Today was the first time I have visited Teotihuacan Mexican Café on Airline and it was wonderful - probably the best Mexican food ever. The place was packed with good reason. The salsas were outstanding as was the pico served with my fajitas. The charro beans had incredible flavor. This isn't the type of place where they throw jalapenos on everything and call it hot, and good. The food was flavorful using spices to create incredible taste. The menu is large and offers all the classic dishes. This is not Hugo's on Westheimer - a whole different type of place. I loved it and plan to return the next time I am in Houston.

Good Food, Good Service, But Noisy!

By Anthony A |

Teotihuacan #1 on AIrline is a large family-friendly Mexican restaurant that stands a bit above many of the other rather numerous Mexican and/or Tex-Mex restaurants in Houston. Parking can be tricky, but note that there is parking in the back, so don't give up if you're not in the front lot. Through no fault of the restaurant, we had to move our original table to a larger one (unexpected number of attendees), and the staff were extremely helpful and courteous while moving us to another room. The margaritas come in a variety of flavors, including watermelon, and my friends said they were some of the best they've had (I always opt for beer). The menu is varied, including most of the standards (fajitas, enchiladas, etc.), with some interesting surprises. I went with the pescado de nono, a tilapia topped with shrimp, onions, mushrooms, and sauce, cooked and served in aluminum foil along with very good charro beans, rice, and guacamole. Service was very fast, even though the restaurant was very crowded, and the server checked on us occasionally to see if everything was ok or if we needed anything else. The only downside is the noise level - being a family-friendly restaurant, the decibel level was pretty high at times, and it was sometimes hard to hear a person seated at the same table. Still, I'd definitely return to try some of the other dishes, even with an extended family sitting nearby.

My Favorite Mexican Restaurant

By momt00 |

This place is my favorite. It's Mexican food. Not TexMex. It is outstanding. We love everything we've ever ordered. Enchiladas. The chicken dishes are phenomenal. The sauces. Woah. The mushroom sauce and poblano chicken are creamy, dreamy delish! The red and green sauce are the best in Houston. Chips always fresh. The homemade tortillas are so amazing. And the service is always excellent. One person keeps your drinks topped, someone else your chips. Great people. And very friendly. We go to this place several times a year and are never disappointed. Ever.

Excellent red and green...

By MilesLHouston |

Excellent red and green salsas. They do great things to fajita meat, and their combo plates are impossible to finish and to die for.

Sunday morning Breakfast

By flamingogal13 |

Three of us went and had a very good breakfast The place was packed but the service was good also We were served ample amount of food almost could split a breakfast

Great Tex-Mex, big portions

By L A |

I have dined here several times, always for lunch. It is usually very crowded but we have never had to wait to be seated. Fast and friendly servers. The salsa is good and they have homemade corn tortillas. I have not found a tastier chicken flauta, they are huge and filled with deliciously seasoned chicken and cheese. Very reasonably priced as the portions are large. They do have good lunch specials.

Lots and lots of great Mexican food!

By Mark C |

We didn't know where to eat this day - it was the 1st day of the Houston flood and many places were closed. So we drove around our hotel looking for a place with cars - the more cars, the better. Teotihuacan fit the bill. We went in and there was a line but you didn't get on a list - you went by the honor system. The waiters would come by the line and ask who was next - no fights broke out - very civilized. We were seated in about 15 minutes and ordered. The margaritas were kick butt - nothing watered down here. Food was incredible - we both had fish dishes and we decided this may have been one of the best meals we had ever had. Service was prompt and the waiter was helpful with our selections. We walked out stuffed and with a box. It was so good, we ate here again the next night and it was just as good as the first time. Our trips to Houston will always include a stop at Teotihuacan from now on.

Quick and dirty Mexican

By JamesENicholson |

The noise, cramped quarters, and disarray should not put you off of this relatively cheap, no frills Mexican restaurant. The quality and service will not wow you, but is decent TexMex and is value priced. The menu is extensive as well. Parking can be difficult but overflow is available across the street (Airline).

El Presidente

By RyanTietz |

The place is always crowded but seating only takes a few mins. Must try the El Presidente! Its my go-to item. Large portion. Also the salsa is addictive.

#1 on my Mexican food list

By Joe B |

I've only eaten here at lunchtime during the business week, so I've yet to experience a weekend meal here with the wife and friends. But the food and service are superb. It's a fairly large place inside, but service is very fast. I would like to tell you all the different things I've tried, but to be honest, I order the "Mar y Tierra" (Surf and Turf) every time. Large grilled shrimp and a nice carne asada. Comes with so much food that I'm hurting when I leave. It cries out for two or three Tecate's, but I have to go back to work. The more times I've eaten here over the years, the more I'm convinced that it's my favorite Mexican food restaurant in the Houston area.

Superb Food Good Prices

By C I |

I really like the fish dishes here, cooked in foil packets and stuffed with vegetables and sauces, they are delicious. The Queso Flameado is very nice. The dishes are very rich! When I come to Houston to visit some friends in the Heights, we seem to always end up here. They also are very nice about special requests. It can be noisy!

This restaurant continues to provide excellent food!

By MaltaBound |

We have eaten at this restaurant for so long. The Happy Hour margaritas are fantastic, Mon-Fri until 6pm, and only $3.00. Quite a punch. They continue to offer warm chips with both green and red salsas. My favorite dish is the Chili Rellanos Champinones, perfectly prepared and stuffed with cheese and mushrooms. They offer a variety with chicken or beef fajita as well. You can ask for a punch card, buy 10 dinners get one free, only one punch per table. ...makes me want to go back! Lately the service has been extra good, for a Mom and Pop, they must have a training program, good work. The value is good. Extra parking is now provided at the side. It's not fancy looking, but it is clean and delicious.

Teotihuacan Mexican Cafe was authentic and delicious. If you are looking for the real thing without the tourist twist, this is a great place to visit. While in the area, visit the many fruit stands and spice markets. Fun!

Excellent Mexican Cuisine

By Karl A |

Excellent food, fun atmosphere, casual setting, and inexpensive. Some of the best Mexican food you will find in Houston. Large portions that are skillfully prepared. We sat on the open deck and really enjoyed the atmosphere. Traditional Tex-Mex menu. Grilled fajitas were excellent. Stuffed Avacado was great. I have no idea how to pronounce the name, but the food and service was really good.

Delight at this Authentic Mexican Cafe

By Jeff S |

Located near I-610, this authentic Mexican café had on-site free parking in front and out back. All wait staff were attentive, courteous, and in uniforms. A host led our large party to a table in a banquet room. The dining atmosphere was festive. Our long table was clean, as were the silverware and dinnerware. Napkins were linen, not paper. We ordered from a vast menu. With crisp nachos came delicious salsa verde and salsa roja. Pico de gallo, guacamole, corn tortillas, and an entrée of pechuga gratinada were all superb. Diet cola was cold with free refills. Portions were generous, prices reasonable. I liked everything about this place. When I’m in the area again, I’ll be sure to look it up.

andor says: Great local flair and fantastic fresh and affordable Tex-Mex!

By andorsworld |

Let me start by saying the only problem with this restaurant is that they serve you SO MUCH DELICIOUS food...you really don't want to leave any on your plate. Great customer service, fantastic selection of food...there is something for everybody. All love "La Chely" but have practically tried most dishes on their menu, with no issues. Their guacamole is so fresh and their fajitas are a killer (in a good way). You actually feel you're down in Mexico vacationing, specially if you seat outside. I did not forget....they have awesome margaritas as well. All of this with great prices!!! It is my number 1!

Customer Service is Abysmal

By Val |

This post refers to my experience with the waitress Damaris and her manager Alfredo. I ordered a specific item, was offered an additional item and was told it came with my meal. I clarified before I confirmed my order. I received my bill, which had the additional charge, so I inquired. The waitress said if I read the menu, I would have known it was an additional charge. However, that is not what she told me initially. The entire table backed me up. We spoke with the manager who came over with a poor attitude. He insinuated I did not read the menu as well. After a brief back and forth, he acted as if he did me a favor to adjust the price. He told me to just subtract the amount and he wasn't going to give me an updated ticket. I requested a new ticket. They were dismissive, condescending and unprofessional. There was no acknowledgement of error, an apology for the inconvenience or the lack of professionalism. I will not return to this establishment.

Great Place for Mex in Houston

By Coffee_Shop_Bob |

Located on Airline Drive just north of North Main (and across the street from the bus station direct to points south across the border of the Rio Bravo), this plain looking restaurante does, indeed, serve some of the best dishes of any place and at VERY reasonable prices (compared to other Mexican restaurants in the City). Always full but never a wait, service is top notch, with servers running everywhere and all ready to help without regard to whomever might be "assigned" to your table.

Fantastic food and service!

By Kirk409 |

Great experience here! Many delicious menu choices and daily lunch specials. Had the Tuesday special, chicken breast with mushrooms, bell peppers, and onion topped with melted cheese. Served with charro beans and delicious rice. Outstanding! Home made Tortillas, both corn and flour, were fantastic. Ordered the guacamole as an appetizer and it was fresh and very tasty. Salsas were delicious, a red Chipotle based and a green tomatillo based. Both were excellent. Fresh, light and crispy chips. Service was outstanding and personal. Highly recommend!

Many options, big flavors

By HebbieDacker |

Although we came for lunch, breakfast items were flying out of the kitchen looking very yummy. My husband had the short ribs and the flavor as well as the aroma were intense. He chose flour tortillas, which are house made and great. I had enchiladas verdes with chicken. It came with rice and refried beans. The verde sauce was bright, flavorful and made the corn tortillas and chicken that much more flavorful. Service was excellent and I can't wait to go back for breakfast!

Great Tex-Mex • Try the Green Chili Sauce!

By DanNowlan |

Wife I and I stopped in here for lunch on the way out of town today. Parking was pretty bad, but at least the spot next to the dumpster was open. Despite how busy they were for the Sunday church rush, we were seated right away. While we were looking over the menu, we were brought traditional hot sauce, green chili sauce, and tortilla chips. The green chili sauce had an avocado base and was delicious! Since I loaded up on that stuff and the wife wasn't especially hungry, we split Nachos Rocio. They came out with beans, ground beef, cheddar cheese, guacamole, sour cream, and jalapeños. The meat was pretty lean, not greasy like at most places, and the cheese wasn't overly greasy. They add a lot of stuff to the guac, probably to bulk it up a bit, and they were a little stingy with the sour cream. Still, the nachos were actually quite good. Despite splitting just one order of nachos, we were both stuffed at the end of the meal. Service was good and fast, too. Oh, and they also had a mariachi on guitar. We would certainly consider eating here again if in the area.

Tasty Tex-Mex - Good Prices

By laketravishill |

The salsa, both the red and green are sooo good. I had the carnita puerco. I get carnitas everywhere and these were excellent. Great margaritas and tres leches for dessert. I accidently left my iphone at the restaurant. Although they closed at 10pm, the manager waited around for me to come back and pick it up - upstanding staff and management.
