First trip ever to Tequilas for us. We were amazed by the intricate carvings and the beautiful dining area. We enjoyed a margarita and a snack. Both GREAT!

We went to dinner with a reservation, glad we did. Our server was attentive, drinks and food were great. We ate outside, crowded but we could carry on a conversation easily. Will definitely go back.

First time here and love Mexican food. Doubted how original it would be as I travel to Mexico about every other weekend. I was impressed! Food had a great flavor to it. Had the beef enchiladas and some chips and salsa. Good tasting on all of it. A little bland, but that is true Mexican. Very authentic! Would recommend anyone to go. The service was top notch despite it being busy.

I made it to Tequilas for a recent birthday dinner. I was initially impressed with the atmosphere. The building and decor are beautiful and chic with a Mexican flair. You certainly get an upscale vibe at first glance. I was a little apprehensive because we had a young child in our group and typically toddlers aren’t warmly welcomed in upscale establishments. In this case we were. They service was warm, friendly and on point. The food was delicious. There was not one complaint from anyone in our group of 6. Everyone loved what they ordered. The food was upscale Mexican food but stayed close enough to authentic to bring good flavor. Ive been to some restaurants that try to upscale food that typically isn’t and they miss the mark.Tequilas is not one of them. The guacamole and chips and salsa were both delicious. It paired well with my mango margarita which was also delicious. I ordered the Salsa Tequilas and opted for the barramundi at the waiters suggestion. He did not steer me wrong. The fish was light and flakey but still filling and seasoned beautifully. I had the opportunity to sample both the beef and chicken Molcajete and they were both delicious as well. The service was top notch yet not pretentious. I even got a free birthday shot when the meal was over. It was a great dining experience from start to finish.

The mashup of Mexican art in an old Philadelphia mansion, sounds strange, but works so well here. We loved the presentation of the room, with fresh flowers on the tables. Food delicious, interesting and well presented.

Very nice location, great food, great service. what more can you want (TY Trip Advisor)? Found this one here, tried it, LOVED it! Give it a shot if you are in town :-)

We came here on a Friday night during center city restaurant week. Of the appetizers, we both ordered the empanadas and they were to die for! For entrees we had the seafood enchiladas and pulled pork tacos. Again, the food was delicious. For dessert, the tres leches cake was another hit! The complimentary chips and salsa for the table was delicious as well. Truly authentic and would definitely recommend!

We went in for dinner on a Saturday night before a show and the Kimmel Center. Had a reservation for 6 PM, arrived at 6:05 PM and we were seated immediately. I was surprised how big the place is! We walked through a bar, past a service station, rest rooms, down steps and finally reached our table. Whew! The place is very well appointed with lots of painting on the wall depicting typical Mexican farming life. It was very crowded, with several large parties seated near us. As a result, It is also VERY loud. Not a place I'd recommend for a quiet, romantic dinner. Our server, Al-X, was wonderful. He was very attentive and patient in answering our questions. We both had a margarita, which were excellent. (They offer a wide variety.) We each opted for an entrée special. The langoustines were wonderful, as was the fillet. The only disappointment of the evening was dessert. The flan was too firm for our taste, but edible. Bottom line: Great food, drinks, service, but a bit loud and NOT cheap. (Our dinner specials were nearly $40 each.) I recommend if you're in Center City and craving high end Mexican food.

Food is quite expensive, but it is really good. the service is doing a great job! Tried all deserts and I can recommend each of them.

I made reservations for Tequilas after my favorite "El Vez" was packed. The food was amazing. I got the special that were grilled over sized prawns...AMAZE..fresh guacamole was also amazing. The setting is intimate, but still kid friendly (if that makes sense). No kids menu but my 6 year was able to get a cheese quesadilla and shirly temple :) The portion size was average..(probably the amount of food Io should be eating vs. what I want)...very knowledgeable wait staff. We will be back! PS: 2 adults & 1 child ... $116.00 (a little high)

We went there for a quick bite during happy hour , we orderd the beef tacos, empanadas and the nachos. The meat was seasoned to perfection, the nachos were the Best that we ever had and the happy hour long island ice tea and sangria were also great.

Had dinner there with my wife. Room is nice, a bit dark in the rear. Food was average at best, staff a bit bored and boring. Would not go back.

We walked to Tequilas from Sonesta Hotel, nearby. It should have been about a 10 minute walk, but to be honest, we had a hard time finding the place b/c the signage wasn't very clear. The chips & guacamole were pretty average (even tho someone else had raved about the guac). I ordered Brazilian Punch & my sister ordered Margarita de Champagne. Both were decent drinks...& we had seconds! LOL For dinner, we ordered MOLCAJETE DE CARNE (with chicken) & CARNE ASADA A LA TAMPIQUEÑA. Both were DELICIOUS! The restaurant was exceptionally clean with a great ambiance. I would probably go back - with a fun group of friends.

The food was really good. We started with the guacomole and the ceviche. Both yummy. I had the bronzino special. My friends had the duck special which he said was greasy but good. Another had the chicken mole which was really good. Finally two had the beef which was served in a large pot and they said it was delicious. The service was attentive and unobtrusive. You have to try the churro desert, it was great. The margaritas were made to your taste and were excellent. Finally after dinner you MUST have the licor43, its to die for. If you like upscale Mexican then this is the place for you.

We had a reservation for 8:30. Got there early and hit the bar. Bar staff was kind of rude, not attentive. Sat down for dinner and the server was nice but we have dairy and gluten allergies and that seemed to be a nuisance to them. Food arrived wi thin minutes. My husband's food was fine no problems. I had a delicious entree that had an onion slaw. I was excited to try the slaw but it was so hot and I mean spicy hot, I had to remove it from my mouth. I could not calm my mouth down. I had tears. No joke. Would not s top. It was awful. Ruined my entire meal. Server side oh ya some people really like this sla w. First time I have ever been in this situation. Unnecessary. Servers didn't give a crap. Otherwise it's a nice restaurant. Stupid server. Will NEVER return. Over $100. Unfortunate.

We visited here right after Christmas with our adult children. Enjoyed the margaritas although they were a bit overpriced for the size. We inquired if the Caesar salad was large enough to share and the waiter said yes - for 2 or 3. Well, it was one measly stalk of romaine. While the dressing was good, I wouldn't rave about the portion size! Otherwise, the lava bowls were excellent and these could certainly be shared by 2 - especially if you have appetizers - or eat a bunch of the chips beforehand! We ordered a side of guac which was also excellent and fresh. Would definitely visit again!

Excellent service, sauces with chips, and entrees. The flavors & temperature of the meals, superb. We will definitely return!

For some reason, people seem to expect Mexican fare here. It isn't. It is certainly latin, but not heavy. The prawns are fantastic, Ceviche is wonderful, the fish special on crabcake was incredible. We were all blown away by the refreshingly light taste of the entrees. I have been three times and love it every time. The servers are also wonderful. Friendly and fast!

4 of us went here for the first time and were all blown away! The staff is amazing- they are all pleasant, all work together, and were all knowledgeable. I was up in the air on a drink and our main server asked me a few questions and said ok I got it and came back with an awesome cocktail- you don't get that kind of thing at many restaurants nowadays. We made sure to all get something different on the menu so we could try as much as possible and all loved everything. The camarones rellenos and queso de camarones appetizers were so good we devoured them! The costilla ribeye and the salsa tequilas shrimp were my favorite dinner dishes if I had to choose. We all got different cocktails which were all great as well. We racked up quite a bill but it was worth every penny and we will definitely be back!! PS park at 1500 locust and you can get a voucher from the restaurant for $10 parking ;)

Beautiful venue. The service was over the top good. The food was beautifully presented and was absolutely delicious. We had several different things off the menu and everyone loved their dish. Make sure to try the seafood guacamole for an appetizer.

I went here for restaurant week and it was so freakin good! I had black bean soup that was amazing. Excellent and attentive service. Cute inside!

We ate here with another couple. We had a reservation and they sat us almost immediately. Lighting is a little bit dim. Some tables had a candle, but we didn't get one. Somehow I managed to fight back the tears. Probably because we ordered the guacamole with chipotle sauce that was awesome which made me forget about our lack of a candlelit dinner. I ordered the beef which came out in a hot lava pot that was a neat presentation, but delicious as well. Came with sides to make multiple tacos. My wife got the carne asada that was also great. Another person at the table got one of the specials that were these giant shrimp/lobster things that she said were really tasty, but surprisingly expensive when the bill came around. Everyone had more than enough food. I would likely eat here again although it was more expensive than I typically spend on Mexican food.

We live in New Jersey about an hour away and this restaurant was recommended by my husband's coworker. Boy was he right! Decor - this place is beautifully dressed! The details are kind of a "day of the dead" meets elegant Spanish restaurant, with beautifully crafted mirrors, original artworks and sugar skulls hanging on the walls and near the entrance. The ceilings are cathedral high so it's very impressive when you walk in. The restaurant itself was I candy as far as I'm concerned. The service - my nine-year-old sat down and was a little cranky at first and immediately one of the staff came over and started doing magic tricks! You know you are in a special place when even in an elegant restaurant, the staff takes a moment to be nice to your kids! Moms always appreciate that. :-) From there, the service was impeccable. Everything was served with a smile and an actual desire to help us enjoy our evening. You just can't fake that. We had a team and I forgot the woman's name but Oscar was our main server. He was knowledgeable about the menu and as I said before, even did magic tricks to keep the kids entertained! His partner, again a woman whose name I can't recall, made excellent tequila tasting recommendations for my husband who was really impressed by one particular brand that she even researched online and told us where to find in New Jersey! The food - The menu is pretty big, there are a ton of options. I've noticed that Philly restaurants tend to offer a lot of seafood. So there are a lot of seafood options, but then again there is also the standard Mexican fare that include skirt steak. And while the flavors are all authentic, they are delivered in an upscale style, and dressed as beautifully as the surroundings! The flavors were definitely Mexican, but again, with an elegant twist. I had the Langostino special which was grilled and delicious! The kids had shrimp quesadillas which were not on the menu, but they gladly obliged! My husband had a delicious skirt steak over a tortilla with poblano sauce and big chunks of green pepper. For dessert I had a traditional Tres Leches cake (and yes, it was the real deal) while the kids had chocolate churros with three dipping sauces. They of course, had specialty cocktails, some infused with peppers. I also had a rose margarita that was off the charts! The cost - OK, it wasn't cheap. But then again, our bill was a little high because between my husband and I we drank almost $90 worth of cocktails! So if you keep the booze bill down, you could probably have dinner for a family of four for just over $100-125, including appetizers to share, entrées and dessert to share as well. Overall I can't say enough positive things about our experience at tequilas. We will definitely make a night out of it when we return to Philly!

A big restaurant, with many tables. Nice ambiance and decor, but here we come to the only really negative note: the incredible level of the noise. I think it is also due to the low ceiling, definitely the tables are too close, and of course the main responsibles are the customers who yell with no concern for the people in the nearby tables. This said, the food was really great. My appetizer was a lobster ceviche, really nice. Then I had crab-filled enchiladas, but I also tried the huge, grilled shrimps. The enchiladas were good, the shrimps just terrific. I drank beer because there was not enough interest in the party for a bottle of wine (had Numero Uno, fairly good), but I browsed through the wine list. I was surprised to find no Mexican wine (during my last trip to Mexico I learned that Mexico produces great red wines). For dessert I had churros with a number of fruit and chocolate sauces, they were very well done. They have an extensive tequila list, I was surprised by the absence of some classics (such as Herradura). On the whole, I give very good marks. Highly recommended if you want to try Mexican food with a plus. It is not cheap, but it is worth what you spend.

Tequila’s offers authentic Mexican cuisine in an upscale but fun environment. Start your night out with a cantina of Margaritas with the owner’s distilled tequila. Chips, homemade salsa, fresh and light guacamole begin your muy delicioso dining experience. Camarones Rellenos, Chile Rellenos and Langostino lightly buttered with just the right amount of garlic hit the mark every time! The staff are impeccable and contribute to a fun time...every single visit!

We really enjoyed how Tequila's updates Mexican standards and also has very inventive dishes. The bar menu went way beyond margaritas, but those were great, too. The Mexican Old Fashioned was a standout. Their salsas were very fresh, with just the right seasonings. I loved their raw oysters with chipotle sauce, cilantro, and avocado--you will forget you ever liked them with cocktail sauce! The fish with garlic sauce was light and flavorful, and they actually serve vegetables here (unlike a lot of Mexican restaurants). My husband and son enjoyed the tortilla soup with chicken (although it was a little heavy on the tortillas) and chicken dishes. The flan was nothing special, but the tres leches cake was a great way to end the meal. Oh, and our waiter was excellent with the bar and food service.

Terrific bar with a fabulous selection of tequilas. Food is great as well. Friendly servers and bartenders in a great vibe environment.

It was Friday on January evening: it was freezing cold in Philly. However, inside the Tequilas restaurant, it was warm and filled with food aroma, and noises of happy patrons. It was crowded, but we got seats as we reserved ahead. We opted for a bottle of Ramon Bilbao wine and as a starter we had crisp corn tortilla chips with fresh tomato, onion and cilantro salsa. For the main course I selected the Salsa Tequilas: grilled jumbo shrimp or fresh fish served in a tequila sauce infused with chile de arbol, butter, garlic & lime. It was fresh, hot, and delicious. The ambiance was 'old world', and kind of rustic with pictures and paintings representing an appropriate history. We had a good time: the service was excellent, fast and courteous.

Great traditional Mexican restaurant with great staff. Seriously try this place. David Suro the owner who also owns Siembra Tequila and his staff are welcoming, professional and all around fun crew. Strongly recommend reservations but they are not necessary. They normally have very good specials for dinner. This isn’t Tex-Mex so branch out and try the Molcajete de Carne or Pollo served in a lave rock bowl with corn tortillas or my wife favorite Pescado Al Mango fish of the day layered with guacamole and paired mango and ginger sauce

Comfortable atmosphere. Great selection of tequila. The food is inspired and all made fresh at the restaurant! Delicious and reasonably priced!

What a gem! Seriously one of the best authentic Mexican restaurants I have been to. My coworkers and I secured a last minute reservation and are so glad we did! From the pico de gallo, guacamole, queso fundido and house made chips to the AMAZING ceviche, surf and turf and grilled grouper, we loved every bite! The margaritas are fresh and not too sweet, and save room for the Tres Leches Cake!

Great food and authentic. Great setting for a work dinner. They also have a vegetarian option which I and another colleague ordered.

My friend and I planned a fun afternoon out in Philadelphia. The goal was to have a Girls night out consisting of dinner and a musical. Well, as luck would have it, it also happened to be "Restaurant Week". You know, that time of the year when participating restaurants offer three-course dinners for only $35 per person. Mexican was the chosen cuisine for this dining adventure. And after perusing the Open table.com website, we came across Tequila Restaurant. From the moment you walk in, you're transformed into an elegant Mexican hideaway. The décor will take your breath away with its elaborate wood carved arches, vibrant artwork, and color schemes that are warm and inviting. If you have a dining room big enough, you may want to take home the exquisite crystal chandelier hanging in the bar area. The three rooms spread throughout the restaurant give you the option of a quick bite with a co-worker or an intimate rendezvous with that special loved one. Since we arrived early for our reservation, the hostess offered to seat us at the bar until our table was ready. We were greeted by Victor a smiling bartender/mixologist who answered our questions and prayers with two tasty drinks that pleased our taste bud’s desires. The wall of Tequila (hence the name) behind Victor and the bar was fascinating. For those who treasure a good drink made with high quality tequila, this is the place for you. Our dining experience further sold us on this wonderful treasure. Our meal started with freshly made salsa and chips. Next came the appetizers, entrée and dessert. The food was fresh, flavorful, and festive. The staff was friendly, provided us with great service. If you're in town for dinner or lunch and you crave a trip to Mexico without the plane fare, this is the place to go. Sasha202

Happy hour begins at 2pm at the bar where one can enjoy small plates & half price margaritas that are strong & yummy. Fundido is hot, delicious, satisfying. Oscar, Dino, Victor and the whole crew are always on their game and make the experience enjoyable. Three tacos are plentiful, awesome, very fresh. Their chips are the best!

Food was both filling and delicious! Waiters were very friendly and made the experience that much better

This exclusive Latin cuisine is one of the best in Philadelphia, from the moment you enter the restaurant you feel the joyful vibrant feeling. The Chef do wonder with his authentic taste and flavoring plates, definitely a must to eat on this fine restaurant. Ask to be seated at the smallest room of the restaurant, specially if you are with the one you love and want to have a nice quiet and romantic dinner.

It's an historic old building and we stopped in for a mid-afternoon drink and appies +. The floor was closed but we could eat at the bar. The margaritas were off the hook! The empanadas, tacos and enchiladas were fresh, bright and gone all too soon. We're going back for dinner!

Overall, good place. Had dinner there today. Margaritas were ok. Home made guacamole was good - not great. I have definitely had better. Food was ok. Service was nice. Not the most attentive - missed some basics. The overall ambience was good. The place is good for a quite dinner. It was not too loud like in other places - so I could have a good conversation. For all this, was slightly on the expensive side. I have no issue paying the price tag. But food quality and service must match that. Overall,I give it a good ranking. Not great. A lot could be improved.

I have eaten at Tequillas three times now, and each time has been superb! The food, drinks and service are all top notch, can't think of a single thing to complain about! Can't wait to go back again! Highly recommend for everyone to try!

We went here for lunch and drinks. We found it by just walking by. The lobby is awesome with Mexican art. The bar is nice and the food was excellent. Staff was super nice. Highly recommended. Will go again.

Great food, good location, very nice interior! Friendly, helpful staff! Love the Enchilada Playa, Molcajete de Carne is great with either chicken or beef.

Had the pleasure of enjoying a group dinner at Tequilas, conveniently located in Center City. This allowed us to try several appetizers - all of them delicious - along with our entrée (the fish and pork options were most popular). One of the multiple desserts offered the group was incredible (some type of flan cake), although the chocolate cake was too rich for my liking. Service was good, and definitely want to try this place again on my own!

This is a wonderful Mexican restaurant located in an old building near Rittenhouse Square. The food we had was unique and very tasty. The service was very attentive and polite. Although the price was high for Mexican food, this is not your usual Tex Mex food. We loved it and will go back when in Philly again.

Let me first start by saying the staff was very nice, but for me there were to many negatives. First, the tables are so close together you can hardly get out if you need to use the restroom. Some of the food was excellent and some not. The Queso Fundido with Chorizo was very good. My husband and I both had the Camarones Rellenos. Shrimp stuffed with cheese, wrapped in bacon and fried. I was so excited for this entree. They were fried entirely too hard and really there was nothing special. We took some home and ended up throwing them away. The meal came with rice (no flavor) and vegetables (they were good). I know we were in downtown but the prices were ridiculous. $13 for my husbands gin and tonic. (not a double) I would not return since there are so many other great (less expensive) places to eat in Philadelphia.

This is first time we went to Tequilas and it is the best Mexican food you can get in Philadelphia. Our server was Silvio and he was great. The drinks were great, the service was great and the food was wonderful. If you want authentic Mexican food you have to try Tequilas you won't be disappointed. I will definitely be a returning customer.

If you want a gem of a restaurant and really authentic mexican food you have to try this place. I was surprised with the food tastes. I tried the stuffed Pablano peppers where were something new for me to try and WOW the taste was amazing. The only downside was we were there with a party of 6 people and sitting with what seemed to be a pre wedding dinner with obvious family members of the restaurant and they were very loud so it was hard for us to hear. But I would still return the good really was amazing from appetizers to desserts.

My husband made a last minute reservation for dinner (Valentine's Day) and I am very happy he chose Tequila's. The staff were very polite, well spoken, attentive, and were spot on with every detail of our service. The cocktails were liquid perfection and having our server opine on a selection I was unsure of, helped me make a well informed decision instead of drinking something I didn't actually appreciate. The crab guacamole with pineapple and pomegranates was surprisingly delightful and was bursting with crab and full of flavour. The oysters were pleasing to the palate and well worth the $20 cost of half a dozen. I had the Bronzino on a bed of paella of which did not disappoint. There was an ample selection of shellfish, but I did find the rice a little hard. My husband had the surf and turf of which is thoroughly enjoyed. He said the steak was on par, if not better than ones he's had at steakhouse and the lagostino was simply fabulous. Though full, we split the Tres Leches cake, and like everything else, it was simply amazing. Jaime, our server was kind, attentive, and treated us like he'd known us for years. His three fingered hand trick of perching the glass was entertaining and fun to watch. The idea of "high end" Mexican food had never appealed to me as I always saw it more of "comfort" food, but Tequila's has more than changed my mind on that and I can't wait to go back.

The service was excellent. Appetizers where empanadas and crabmeat guacamole. Both excellent, the guacamole was the best I've ever had. Drinks were good and strong. My main course was great. My wife was not as happy. I think she just doesn't like Mole. She liked mine. Dessert was great tres leches maybe the best I've had. My wife got the chocolate mousse she loved it. I only gave four stars because the place was ridiculously loud. It was hard for is to have a conversation. Also, my wife wasn't happy with her main course. That being said we are going back.

What a wonderful restaurant/bar. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner with cocktails. What a buzz this place has. The Mexican food was delicious and full of body. They are tequila specialists so knock you socks off. What a ball

Ambience was nice, great for a special occasion. Empanadas were good. Guacamole was yummy. For main dish I ordered the fish with garlic which was good but nothing extraordinarily and definitely not worth the price. Now, we were going to order Cebiche and requested it with fish only but the waiter told us the of mix of fish and shrimp was already prepared so they couldn't take out the shrimp. I'm Peruvian and my two friends had lived in Peru for a while so that was enough for us to doubt if the fish and the whole cebiche was fresh because one of the main rules of Peruvian cebiche is to use fresh ingredients and start the preparation as it is ordered. The service from Alejandro, our waiter, was very good. He was energetic and very helpful. I've eaten in so many places in the world from pricey/fancy restaurants to eating at markets and unfortunately the food at this place did not come even close to their prices.

Came here for lunch on a friday afternoon. Tacos were very fresh and tasted great. Came with fresh chips and salsa.

I have visited this restaurant many times since they opened and never found myself disappointed. It has maintained the same standard of quality and attention to detail. Anytime you can deliver perfect Huevos Rancheros and a creamy Bean Mousse for Brunch is a special meal to savor with family and friends. It is one of the understated restaurants that has become example of excellence in Philadelphia.

Four of us who haven’t been to lunch together in a long time enjoyed Tequilas on Friday the 1st of November at noon. I say at noon because center city restaurants can be pretty crowded at this time. Tequilas was just the kind of place we were looking for. Quiet! We actually could hold a conversation without having to raise our voices. The food is authentic & delicious with a reasonable price. Delicious Margaritas, an amazing Flan & chocolate cake, and the friendly attentive waiters are a bonus. We’ll definitely meet there again.

Wow - wow...service was superb - Muchas gracias Manuel and to Vinny at the Bar and others - food was amazing - on the gourmet side - we had the specials - salmon on crab cake and short ribs.....yes, this is not an inexpensive restaurant but worth it. We did find that if you want to just go for drinks and stay at the bar, there is a different menu and prices are lower. Tequilas is a very comfortable restaurant with a warm décor. don't forget appetizers and desserts!

My wife and I had dinner here after a show at the Kimmel Center. The food and service were excellent. It is a bit more pricey than I had planned, but we had a very nice meal.

Classic Mexican dishes. Molcajete with chicken or beef. I had pulled pork. Great guacamole and chips. Excellent tequila and mezcal selection. Unusual beers from Mexico too. Crowded and noisy on a Saturday night. Fun place. Friendly waitstaff.

A few of my friends and I (6 people) went to Tequilas Friday night to celebrate my birthday and another friend's birthday. We were seated right away and served water almost immediately. We all ordered margaritas, and thought they were wonderful. I had the Margartia Roja, which was a good blend of sweetness and tequila. We had one vegan guest with us and there wasn't much on the menu she could eat (I didn't realize she was vegan, so that was my fault). She spoke with Juan, our server, and he had the chef make something off-menu for her! She thought it was very good, and I was wowed by this gesture. Juan and the chef were so helpful! We got our food within 30 mins - which was impressive for a table of 6. I ordered the grilled chicken dish, which I really enjoyed. I find that refried beans tend to be quite salty, but these were just right. We shared the spicy guacamole among the 6 of us, and everyone love it. I am gluten free and Juan managed to substitute the cake they usually provide for birthdays for a chocolate tequila shot. It was absolutely delicious!! Overall, We spent about $40 per person, including drinks and an appetizer. The food was good and the service was out of this world! Ask for Juan, he is AMAZING!

The food and service were top notch at Tequilas. I had a fish special that was made to perfection, and our server was friendly & very attentive to our needs. The place has a high end feel to it, and I think that's the surprise most reviewers express. Mexican food is usually a medium to low priced deal (less than $20 for a dish in my experience). Don't get me wrong, the food is absolutely delicious, just plan for a fancy evening there rather than a Mexican cantina casual night out feel.

The meal and drink were great. Customer service was awesome. A little on the pricey side for what I'm accustom to.

If you visit Philly, you must go to Tequilas for lunch or dinner. The menu is limited but so delicious that I have no problem getting the same 2 or 3 things every time. The atmosphere is unique and the Enchiladas Playa are incredible. The Tequilas Margarita with mango juice is my favourite drink.

One of the best Mexican meals I have had in a long time. Good selection and knowledgeable waiter made it an all around great evening

We had recently returned from a trip to Mexico City, and this restaurant was quite evocative our delicious restaurant experiences there. This is not your typical enchilada/taco place. It had wonderful craft cocktails and delicious unusual dishes. Wonderful service.

Overall this was a really good restaurant. Started with the shrimp appetizer stuffed with cheese and bacon. It was very good but you only got two. For the price might not be worth it. Got the Molcajete De Carne for dinner. This was excellent. Hadn’t had anything like this before. Very tasty. Waitstaff was great. Beer was cheap but margaritas were a tad pricey. But these are all city prices. Overall a great meal

I'm going to this place since almost 20 years and I enjoy every time. When ever I come to Philadelphia this is my first go to place, They serve such a great authentic food you will love it. The service team is almost the same over the last 20 years which speaks for itself. The over David became a good friend of mine over the years.

I went for dinner with my wife. The service, atmosphere and drinks were all excellent ! The food was not on pair with the rest but not bad. We probably wouldn't go back for dinner. Maybe just for drinks and appetizers.

I’ve been hearing of Tequilas for the past 3 years or more from friends who live in and visit the area. Finally made a stop. Ordered the queso fundido, tortilla soup, and the asada plate. All very good! Finished off with the tres leche, but not before sampling one of their many mezcal cocktails

When we walked in and saw white tablecloths and a restaurant full of post-work center city diners, we worried we were out of place as a two-family group including children, but the staff was *great* with the kids, we felt welcome despite being casually dressed, and the food was excellent. I had a fantastic Mole Poblano - the flavor was very rich and it had a little kick -- and my husband's surf & turf was great, too. We would definitely recommend this place and visit again on our next trip to Philadelphia.

Best Mexican food! We stopped by since it was close to the hotel and was rated highly for allergy awareness, but it definitely deserves all five stars based on the quality of the meals and service. We ate outside, but the interior looked amazing. All had good meals, but the standouts are the Molcajetes, churros, and tres leches. Service was friendly, informative, and prompt. Definitely one to enjoy in-person, if possible.

The food was good, but not something that blew my mind. Given that, i'd argue that it was a tad overpriced. However, the service was outstanding and our waiter was attentive and friendly, which is why I went with 4 instead of 3 stars.

Am from San Antonio so this was not in the same league as the Mexican food there. Service was good as well as chips and salsa. Prices are high for what you get. Bathrooms leave some odor in the front bar area. Not much other Mexican food I. The area and was a business related dinner.

We read reviews and chose this restaurant for a friend's birthday. It is very pretty with a crystal chandelier and long bar in one of the rooms. The food was creative and flavorful with friendly and attentive staff. Be sure to make a reservation as it is very busy place for dinner.

I can see why this place has been around for years..Good staff excellent authentic food and wonderful ambiance

This was my second time to Tequila and I will be back a third. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The empanada were very good. Others found the Civiche delicious and the Caesar Salad was a very generous portion. The beef and fish entrees were excellent and nicely spiced. Presentation was attractive and service was attentive.

My daughter and best friend went here for lunch on a Friday. The service was outstanding and our waiter was extremely helpful with his recommendations because every thing on the menu sounded wonderful; and it was! Each one of us got a different specialty cocktail that was scrumptious. The meals were extremely authentic and presented perfectly. We were allowed to sit and relax and really enjoying the beautiful atmosphere of the restaurant- high ceilings, stunning art work, warm lighting, big picture windows- just lovely.

^ of us went to Tequilas with 2 of us being Vegan no oil. Hostess stated they could do nothing for us as everything has oil. Manager "Oscar" came by and after talking to me went back to the Kitchen. came out shortly and said what they could do for us. They went over the top to work with our restrictions. Service and food were excellent. For not being a Vegan place they did a great job and really put forth a great effort to make us happy. Very pleased. BTW the other 4 ate off their regular menu and all 4 raved about the food.

Had no expectations as I knew little of Mexican Restaurants on the east coast. Really walked by and in. Great cocktails and surprisingly good foods. Really a pleasant surprise

One of our favorite Mexican Restaurants! Dinners are always delicious, must try the langostines. Garlicky deliciousness! Very authentic, gourmet Mexican food. Happy Hour is always fun! Great margaritas and beers! Short Rib margarita, a spicy, jalapeño infused tequila with pomegranate syrup! Delicious! The salsas are fresh, homemade with mild spice. Tortilla chips are fresh made. Great service at the bar or at a table! Friendly, happy servers!

I’ve been to Tequilas many times, but until this visit not since quite a fire forced them to close several years ago – I was surprised when I looked back that I had not written a review then. I was excited to go back. We arrived on Monday evening for a 18:00 reservation to what was an already very busy space. Our server Leslie was quick to give the three of us an overview of menu highlights, make suggestions, and take our drink order. Her attention to our table was great through the whole experience. We started with the Guacamole con Aton ($22), a combination of fresh guacamole with fresh tuna. I think all of us would have been happy to have several rounds of this dish – absolutely outstanding. For my entrée I chose the Chochinita ($32), marinated pork shoulder which is served with black beans, a manzano pepper puree, and a small side of pickled red onions. I will guess the three was bout 4-5 ounces of shoulder, served wrapped in a banana leaf. The black beans and manzano sauce were not more than a tablespoon or two each. Even with the accompanying tortillas, this was not a lot there for the cost. My other half ordered the Chile Rellano ($24, vegetarian), while my niece ordered the Barbacoa Tapatia ($34). This is not an inexpensive place, both for their offerings and level of service offered. However, while the appetizers and drink portions of the menu seemed reasonable, I did think both my choice and my other half’s were overpriced for what we received, good as they were.

It is in a beautiful old house on Locust Street. The service is excellent, If you are alone, you can order your tacos at the bar, as I did: 3 huitlacoche tacos (that is the mushroom growing on corn) on corn tortillas with water cress and perfect seasoning. I go to this place when I find myself in Center City, mostly for lunch, but I have also attended events and the food was delicious. It is very refined and the taste is subtle, not heavy-handed Mexican and never greasy.

Fantastic food and drink in a fun atmosphere. One of the few Mexican restaurants in the city that actually accepts reservations on Cinco de Mayo.

We made reservations this week and had a nice seat tucked away in the very, very back for two. The service was perfect. The server was very nice and other servers were always nearby helping one another. It is a very smooth-running, cooperative environment as far as that's concerned and it generated a really enjoyable atmosphere. The food was great. I ordered carne asada de tambiquena. My steak was cooked perfectly. The chips, tacos al pastor as an appetizer, chicken taco - it all was great. So helpful and accommodating as far as substitutions are concerned. I'm a finicky eater and try not to be difficult, but asked for things to be switched out/left off and they were very understanding and catered to my requests. Prices were decent for what we got and the upscale atmosphere. Will definitely return.

Great high end Mexican food. Classic authentic dishes with excellent ingredients. Excellent bar with outstanding selection of tequilas. The staff is friendly and attentive. Make reservations to make sure you get a table. Molcajete dinner is my favorite, but check out the specials. If you can make room for the Mexican coffee, but check to see if it's available they do run out. Best high end Mexican restaurant in Philadelphia.

Good and pleasant restaurant in Downtown Philadelphia. Close to an avenue with some wellknown stores and not far from the Historic quarter. Complete Mexican menu. Friendly service.

We dined here on the recommendation of the Westin Hotel's concierge. It was a fabulous experience. We had no reservation but our concierge got us a table. Our server, Valerie, was amazing – professional, personable, knowledgable. The atmosphere was relaxed and intimate in our particular dining room. I can't say much about the menu because we were sold on the specials immediately and didn't even look at the menu. I had white sangria and grouper with crab & scallop. My husband had a ribeye steak marinated in coffee and served with a tamarind and hibiscus sauce. We shared an appetizer of chips and guacamole that was topped with crab and mango. Everything was superb. I sincerely hope to return. It was one of our best dining experiences in recent memory.

We were looking for a good place to have a cocktail and came upon Tequilas. What a great find. It's a really cute place and had great service. Our server was fun and engaging and knew a lot about the cocktails. There is a great menu of tequila cocktails. I had a great, spicy, drink called a Diablo and my husband had a drink with tequila and champagne. We weren't very hungry, so we went with appetizers. The guacamole and chips were good, but the queso fundido was FABULOUS. We plan to visit again for dinner.

The restaurant itself is not your average looking Mexican restaurant nor is the food. The restaurant is housed in an old Mansion. The bar has the original old marble fire place and is elegantly appointed.Oh did I mention you enter passing a Day of the Dead Mural which is a political commentary.I like to eat in the bard. On weekends the main dining area can be noisy. The service is excellent, the drinks are strong, the food is delicious. I guacamole is excellent, I always chose a mole or a special. I had the mole, and save room for dessert. The tres leche is one of the best I ever had.It is as good as any you would find in Mexico at a top restaurant. The dinner is not inexpensive but worth the price.

I took my neice, daughter and fiance here to celebrate my nieces birthday. ( I told this to the waiter so desert was an option ) The guacamole was delicious! However, all four of our main courses were tasteless! I got the pork special. It was dry. The presentation of the meat was slopped on my plate as if it came from a terrible cafeteria, accompanied by a brown, dry plantain with a ramekin full of beans as if I was eating in prison. I was charged, $26. All of our meals were overpriced for the quality. The servers were very friendly and truly the ONLY good part of this restaurant. I would rather have invited my waiter out to dinner with us ELSEWHERE!

We arrived on a Friday for happy hour around 4:45pm and the bar was fairly empty, but that changed quickly. Before we knew it the bar was full and the tables in the main room were also full. We had mezcal (I recommend it if you like a Smokey taste). I ordered a margarita but the bartender forgot, no big deal. We ordered guacamole, shrimp tacos, and queso fundido with chorizo, all were delicious. Honestly I chose this place for the atmosphere but the food was fantastic, and the atmosphere didn’t disappoint. If you enjoy the review/pics click the helpful button.

We had a table for four in the main dining area. Very nice and spacious! Service was outstanding and the food amazing. Not the traditional Tex-Mex which is what made this restaurant outstanding.

I enjoyed the service. Our waiter was very polite, fun, fluent in spanish, the whole nine yards. My entree (Sabana Invierno De Pollo) was artfully presented, but didn't actually taste all that good. I didn't complain, but the chicken just tasted kind of rubbery and unnappealing. Nevertheless, we got coffee and dessert, and THAT knocked my socks off. I got something called tres leches cake, and was floored with how delicious it was. Really defies description, but I'll try. Excellent cake somehow infused with milk. Yum!! The strength of the dessert keeps my rating bouyed safely at 4.

I have visited many times over last few years and have never been disappointed The owner David and staff are very friendly and efficent and strive to make your visit enjoyable. The food quality and presention are First Class! The Owner David Suro also has his own Tequila Brand SIEMBRA AZUL That is Top of the Line.

I have never been to a Mexican restaurant that was as much as a fine dining authentic experience. From the food to the staff, everything was professional, friendly, and authentic. Our server even served all 8 of our drinks off a tray - carried on his head! The appetizers were fantastic, the entrees were delicious and we didn't order dessert but they gave us a complementary chocolate moose cake for my sisters birthday and it was AMAZING! Would definitely visit again!

I regularly visit Tequilas for great food, warm, welcoming service and execellent crafted drinks. So, when colleagues were in town for a quarterly business meeting, I booked Tequilas. Everyone was still raving about the “great dinner” the next day. We had the fortune of dining privately in the room right off of the bar next to the foyer. Dinner was amazing. We asked Oscar to bring out an assortment of appetizers which were thoroughly enjoyed by all. The guacamole bowls were all cleaned out 😎. Dinner was a hit. The Molcajete entrees served in the lava bowls were raved about. One person said, “wow, this place really takes Mexican cuisine up a few notches.” Go with friends, on a date or for business and you will be fulfilled. And don’t forget to ask for the flaming coffees...

Tequilas may be my favorite Mexican restaurant in Philly but for the third time in two months, we dined at restaurants where the Chef wants to dictate how you have your food. We had 4 adults and an 8 year old in our party on a week day night where it was not crowded at all. We were in the side room and we were the only occupied table in that room. When we requested a meal to have the sauce on the side, we were told the chef does not make modifications to the menu...not even for an 8 year old. The server spilled food on me and poured plain water into a glass of sparkling water and did not offer to provide a new bottle of sparkling water. The food as usual was very good but this trend of chef's telling that we can't have the dish without the spicy sauce (Tequilas), or my two other cases we could not add pepperoni to a pizza or put grated cheese on a pasta dish because the chef says it ruins the taste (i kid you not). It seems like a chef competition to see who can get the most publicity from being temperamental. I hope more diners decide enough is enough and that the paying customer should decide what they eat, not the chef - and that they provide poor reviews to those restaurants/chefs who want to dictate the meal

Good proximity to activity in Philadelphia. Food was good but doesn't knock your socks off. Servers very friendly but rush you as if they're trying to turn the tables 6 times a night. Great bar.

The food, service, and venue were all superb! Of 16 people, not one complaint. The food was delicious, prepared as ordered, and served in a timely and friendly manner. Everyone left satisfied and happy. An excellent restaurant.

Came back two weeks after my first visit that was during restaurant week to see if it was really as good and to check on consistency. Well, they were amazing again!! Instead of their filet which I had first time I thought I would try their seafood. Barramundi with lobster etc was fabulous!! Saw my favorite waiter, Luis, but had another great waiter tonight, Alex. This restaurant has great wait staff!! Max at front reception is great too!! Alex did a great job. I had another tequila old fashioned, (my new favorite drink and I now love mezcal), and Alex and Luis recommended a new drink for me with gin called Vaca Salvaje that went perfectly with the fish dish. I normally don’t drink gin, but this was very good!! The churros for dessert that Alex recommended with chocolate, strawberry, and caramel dipping sauces was fantastic!! I LOVE this restaurant for their food, ambience, and DRINKS!!! I WILL be back and recommend if you are in area that you stop by and enjoy!!!

The food is phenomenal and so is the service. Great drink menu as well. It's just the best. Period. Must eat in Philly.

Wonderful interior. "Different" is probably the word and I liked it a lot. Very friendly staff. Really good food and more than enough. Half the appetiser and not all of the main course was more than enough for me. And it's not for nothing called "Tequilas". Great Tequilas (please, don't drink them as shots).

This is NOT your typical cheesy Mexican restaurant. The main bar/table area has a tremendous amount of charm with its old world woodwork and large fireplace - and I would recommend eating in that area if possible. The speciality cocktails were inventive and took the dining experience to a higher level. The food was some of the best Mexican I have ever had, and I've had a lot. Whether you go for drinks or dinner, I would strongly recommend this place.

I used to go to this restaurant 20 years ago, so it was a great pleasure to come back and be able to enjoy it again! The place now is bigger but it remains “sophisticated Mexican”. Menu is shorter, but very good options including meat and sea food. Excellent offer of all sorts of tequilas and good options of beers. We ordered oysters a la Mexicana and jumbo shrimps as appetizers both very well served. For main dishes, we went for a traditional steak with Mexican ingredients and shrimps again. Service was professional and entertaining, as waiters perform few songs and play around the saloon. Great option to go with family or bigger groups, but no longer a romantic or cozy place, as the restaurant clearly got in the tourist list of places to eat in Philly, attracting lots of people every night.

Service was very good on a weekend night during restaurant week. I was happy with the pacing of the meal and didn't feel rushed at all. Loud, lively atmosphere which was perfect for us. Reason I am deducting s star is completely personal, they have changed the menu item that I went their specifically to order, their Chillis Rellenos. Instead of being stuffed with cheese, breaded and fried, they are stuffed with a quinoa mixture and baked. I have been enjoying the original chillis since the restaurant was on 15th and Locust. I understand diners may be looking for a healthier option, but I wish the original was still offered. Was so disappointed. Otherwise, I would recommend this restaurant, we personally will not return now that my favorite dish is no more.

I’ve dined here multiple times while traveling on business. It always impresses. The dining room has a classic, old world feel without insulting the Hispanic heritage of the menu. The food is delicious - not overwhelming portions, but well prepared and plated for the mature palate. The bar is where this place ultimately succeeds - a must for any mexican restaurant. They live up to the name Tequilas. I have ordered multiple classic drinks not on the menu, and the bar staff never gives it a second thought. More impressive, they have their own house tequila which they make in Jalisco. If you only have a few nights in Philly, it’s not worth a special trip. But if you’re local or have a few extra nights, then come try something different! Make reservations - depending on the night, it can be a wait.

We love Mexican food and Tequilas is a high end Mexican restaurant with a unique food, appetizer and drink menu. The restaurant is beautiful and service is fantastic. Great for family, business or date night. We always look forward to returning!

Planned a bachelorette dinner here for 10 people, and everything was excellent! It was hard to find a restaurant that didn't insist on a prix-fixe menu, but we had so many different tastes it was a must. Tequilas let us do our own thing. Food and drinks were great. The crab and mango guacamole was amazing. Had a cool old mansion vibe. Waiters were friendly and they brought the bride-to-be a shot. Great all-around experience!

OMG! the food was very good. I love the atmosphere of the restaurant. This was my first time and really enjoyed it. We went for restaurant week and I will be going back.

We went there with a large group. It's a big place and food is very flavourful. Even though menu was not that big, but whatever we ordered, it was great. Unfortunately prices are on the higher side. Enjoy!

Nice place for delicious Mexican fare. Outdoor seating and bar seating as well as indoor seating.Popular at happy hour.

My wife ahead fish and I had steak both were beautifully cooks and tasted fantastic. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Highly recommend this restaurant. We will visit again before we leave for home.

Excellent place to enjoy great food, great service and great drinks. Their white sangria is excellent and the food is consistent.

this place is all around amazing, the staff, the drinks, the food, the atmostphere. I always feel like family when I come.

For as long as I can remember I Loved coming here for dinner and it hasn't changed. I don't get hear enough. The food is always top notch and the tequila and medical selection is the best in the city. Not sure what the difference is or where to start? Ask your server, they know their stuff. If you like tradition Mexican or are looking for not so traditional they have it all. Don't miss your chance to see for yourself. Personally I suggest the empanadas app and the chilies relanos entree with a mezcal flight and house made tequila.

You definitely should make reservations. Many people eat here as the restaurant was packed to capacity. However, this made for a very loud atmosphere. Nonetheless, the wait staff and service was exemplary. You should also ensure your cellphone is fully charged as you will need the flashlight app to read the menus depending on where you are seated. Every entree was outstanding, but the mixed drinks were just OK.

My husband and I went here for our anniversary dinner. The food was delicous! We ordered the fresh guacamole. It tasted amazing, the waitress said the secret is the cilantro, green pepper, and red onions. For dinner I got the enchiladas playa, which was filled with lobster, crab, and shrimp covered in cheese and sauce. My husband got the sabana invierno de pollo. At first I wondered why he would order chicken when we were out for a fancy date. We eat chicken all the time. Well, this was the BEST chicken! It was covered in refried beans, cheese, and a tomitillo sauce. It sounds simple but it was spectacular. Who knew chicken could taste so good? Our waitress was so amazing and attentive. We told her it was our anniversary and she said she'd have a surprise for us. After our meal, she came up to the table with two small glass jars. BANG. She smacked them into the table and popped the caps off. They were shots of some kind of liquor including kahluah. I don't know what was in it, but it tasted delicous! I would highly recommend trying Tequila's out!

4 adults and 1 pre-teen. We visited on a Saturday night. Waiter took his time to chat with pre-teen about some off-menu items. Kid felt amazing! Waiter helped us all select items we totally enjoyed. The drinks and food were all delicious. Steak was flavorful. Chicken mole best in the region. I don’t think there’s a clinker to be had. The half flan half cake desert was a perfect ending. The only thing missing was squash blossoms that I had there about 15 years ago. Keep it up!

I stopped in after my average long business travel work day which included lots of driving. This was a treat to say the least. Everything is authentic about this place: the history of the building (the bartender will tell you about it 😁), the genuine staff, the drinks, and the food. The food is original and high quality. This is NOT your iceberg lettuce and refried beans from a can/Taco Bell style Mexican restaurant. I had the Chicken Molle and several Beyond the Rio cocktails. They infuse some of their tequila inhouse with special ingredients if you opt for some of the more peculiar drinks. This place is pricey but I went down during happy hour where they significantly reduce their prices to make the menu more affordable. Happy hour ends at 6 or 7.

What a delightful restaurant in a gothic original setting with traditional good quality healthy food topped with lashings of great service. I had Molcajete De Pollo which was simply divine - hot and spicy. I would recommend this venue for all occasions and the cost didn’t seem too prohibitive either given the setting, authenticity and service.

If we go at 2P it's great. However, when we went for dinner we waited forever for a table. This is with a reservation. It was so crowded and noisy that you could not enjoy the meal. Tables and people were close together. Would never eat dinner there again. My husband hated it so much he said he would never go back. Even though we have had lovely meals there @ 2P for lunch.

What I most loved is that we received lovely attention from our waiter and that we were able to speak! I'm tired of having to scream across the table at one of these restaurants with a great new vibe. Apparently a new vibe comes with poor acoustics. Tequilas isn't a new restaurant but it's one you can depend on. The food is good and it's an altogether positive experience.

Good food , it’s pricy but it’s worth it . It’s family friendly place . The portions are great . Salsa is yummy . Did not miss out

The food and drinks are without a doubt the best. The Mexican food is so yummy and filling. We always leave so full. It's a bit crowded and the seating is close but the food and drinks are worth it.

The positive reviews of this place are right on. There were four of us for dinner and we left very happy. We each got something different along with sharing a pitcher of margaritas. We all enjoyed our meals and the wait staff was excellent. The building itself is really cool too. Would recommend for couples, friends, and/or families (adults). I had the wild boar special.

Came here at 5:30 on a Tuesday during restaurant week. They are on Open Table which is always a plus for me. We were seated immediately upon arrival by a nice and friendly hostess. Our server came over in an appropriate amount of time to take our order. This place is pretty huge in my opinion and offers a variety of rooms, each offering something different in terms of ambiance and decor...which I appreciate. The front area where the bar is has a really cool vibe. It's old school but sort of gothic. It reminds me of the tower of terror for some reason. Lol. I don't know why. I wish we were seated up front. The back room was nice, too. There's one window seat that I would have loved to sit at but it was already taken. It was verrrry quiet for the majority of time that we were there. As we were leaving around 7:30 it was full and VERY loud....to the point that it was difficult to hear each other. Some of the other rooms were still quiet. I think you can choose a room based on your desired ambiance (if you know going into it). Chips and salsa were brought to the table...chipotle salsa and a fresh pico. Both were delicious. We ordered from the restaurant week menu. Apps: I got the mushroom and black bean empanadas. My Dad got the dual empanadas so 1 mushroom and 1 beef, (each one cut into two pieces). I thought they were really good. Entrees: my Dad got filet and shrimp. He gave it 8 out of 10 stars. I got cheese enchiladas with tomatillo sauce. Both served with rice and black beans. My enchiladas were delicious. I would have preferred a bit more sauce but that's a personal preference. I did not ask for more but I'm sure they would have brought it. They were very cheesy. Yum! Dessert: Dad got Tres Leches cake and I got Chocolate Mousse cake. It was not the best I've had. It tasted pre made. Like something that would be shipped to a restaurant and they would slice and serve. I could be wrong. It was alright but not great. Our server was excellent. She answered all of my questions and offered suggestions. She checked to make sure everything was correct and delicious. She took care of the check quickly when my Dad was in the bathroom so I could beat him to it. The person assisting her was also great. Quick to clear plates and wrap up leftovers. Friendly. Non intrusive. The bathrooms were clean. Four stalls. No waiting. Sinks were clean. Toilets were clean and functional. I was sad they didn't have Chambord to make a Chambord Margarita. We ordered sparkling water. I was sad it wasn't really cold. The waitress did bring me a straw and lime like I asked, which I appreciated because many people forget. Can't beat restaurant week. It's just a coincidence we came here during restaurant week. We looked at the regular menu, too but ultimately preferred the restaurant week offerings anyway. 3 course meal for 2 people, $79 plus tip. Fancier Mexican food than most places but if you're into that, I would recommend it here. I would return.

If you like an elegant and yet very funky Mexican restaurant...this is then one. Located in a period style Philadelphia house, the location is excellent and the servers great fun. It is however let down by the quality of its food. The Barramundi was overly dry, the flank steak rather tasteless and the dulche de leche cakge overly sweet. That said go for the entertainment rather than the food.

We heard they had great margaritas so we walked by and there was a rare open spot at the bar. We had margaritas and apps. Delicious food and margaritas. The staff is so nice also. I plan on going back with my girlfriends

Great local find, food was delicious, handmade cocktails and fun vibe/atmosphere. Servers were a little too attentive for our party's liking but better over than ignored. We will be back.

My wife and I found this restaurant more than 15 years ago. Over the years they have not become complacent. High quality food and service. We live about three hours away and routinely drive to Philly for authentic Mexican (NOT TEX MEX) food. There isn't one thing on the menu that is average and we've had most of them. Do yourself a favor...if you are in Philly for a convention or a visit grab your friends and make a reservation. You will not be disappointed....unless you crave Chipotle or Taco Bell or one of the 1000 other Tex Mex joints that serve 10,000 calorie meals.

Bar has great drinks. Service very very good. The food is ok at best. The bacon wrapped shrimp I had was dried out and flavorless. Guacamole was bland. I won’t go back

We drive nearly 3 hours to visit Tequilas. We do this about 6 times annually and always for my wife's birthday. From the owner who is passionate about tequila and mezcal and of course his menu to the exceptional bartenders and the great wait staff you can't miss. This isn't Tex-Mex is Mexican so enjoy.....Silvio is our go to waiter but they are all great. Can't wait to go back

Awesome! Special and extraordinary food for everyone and incredible and nobel atmosphere. Additionally, the waiters are kind and courteous. Definitely worth a visit!

The margaritas were exceptionally good. Great location and bartenders are very informed . Will be my go to spot for happy hour.

This is a great place for people who don’t travel much! The ambiance is great. Cozy! The service is top notch! But the prices are for those that like to spend money to say they ate at a trendy Mexican Restaurant. The tortilla soup was delicious. (I could afford that) As someone who has eaten phenomenal Mexican at a decent price in not only Mexico but CA, AZ and UT this place did not impress. I found the menu very limiting and of course way overpriced!

Great Authentic Mexican Restaurant. We sat outside - staff was very willing to please. We asked to be outside and it was a very pleasant evening so we asked that the awning be opened, they where very quick to accommodate. The outdoor booth seating is so cozy and private - just wonderful for all seasons. All food we got was very good including the margaritas! Dinner for 4 was $250 which is a bit high but you are in the city and prices are on the rise! We had a wonderful evening and highly recommend!!

We chose Tequilas because we were going to a concert playing Mexican and we wanted to get in the mood. The drinks and food was delicious and the service was very good and friendly. Did you know that the Caesar salad originated in Mexico? Yes and my friends totally enjoyed their Mexican salad where the lettuce is served in whole pieces. My hubby liked his ceviche and really enjoyed it. We each ordered a different entree (see photos) and if we weren't going to a concert, we would have taken the leftovers home. We would definitely return.

We made reservations at this very busy restaurant and were seated punctually. Looking at the interesting menu I was optimistic. And then the waiter arrived. I cannot remember ever being treated so rudely. He acted as if we were imposing on him when we asked for a beverage. I know this is a touristy location but making an effort to be even polite would have been an improvement. I suppose we should have left but I was so hungry and it was a busy night in the city we stayed. Our recollection of the food was nothing special but that definitely could be colored by how we were treated.

Excellent food, but what was even more special was the informal "master class" and tasting that the staff gave me on tequilas. They have an extensive listing of tequilas and the staff has an impressive knowledge (and photos) of how agave is grown and processed. If you can go at a time during the week when they may have time to share their knowledge and passion, it will be memorable!

Always a great meal at Tequilas Restaurant. Great food/service. Only drawback is that some of the tables are very close together (which can be uncomfortable or awkward), and the restaurant can be very noisy.

I’ve been dining at Tequila’s for at least 25 years and it continues to impress me with its delicious dishes, their great tequila selection, and outstanding service. I travel all over the world and being a Mexican I recognize great food when I taste it. David, Oscar and the rest of the staff are always happy to see you and provide you with some amazing recommendations. A five star restaurant in the heart of Philadelphia!

Amazing food. Well worth a visit simply because the food is outstanding. The restaurant is a beautiful place to eat, amazing decor but also a great atmosphere.

On the ile St. Louis that has since close that had the best Langoustines on the planet. I have ordered this dish many times elsewhere and am invariably disappointed at the mealy little glorified shrimp that would be on my plate. ALWAYS expensive too. Well, Tequilas has Langoustines and I have had them twice now and they are out of this world. Big, juicy, succulent. Yes, expensive at $38.00 per serving but well worth the cost. Everything else here is delicious - ceviche, chips and quac, other mains. The margaritas are fabulous. Service professional and friendly. The owner’s son is usually about making sure things are going smoothly. This is a fun and friendly and top quality restaurant that can’tbe missed. I am not aware of any Mex like thids anywhere and I recommend it highly. While I miss terribly the restaurant in Paris, Tequilas is the place to go for the little critters that were done to perfection in only one other place anywhere that I can attest to, and here in Philadelphia too.

The food at Tequilas is amazing! All the food has amazing flavor and is truly authentic Mexican food! The wait staff was extremely friendly and the food comes in an appropriate amount of time! The guacamole options are great and tastes extremely fresh! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS!!!

I've been dreaming about tequilas since I can home to Ireland. The food was fantastic. We shared many appetizers and there wasn't one I could fault. My highlight was the lava bowl for main. It was just cheesy perfection. Hopefully I'll return for another visit in the future.

Our party of 4 came to Tequilas before seeing a show at the Walnut Street Theater. Our waiter was amazing! When I asked him a suggestion on a margarita (they all sounded so good), he instead asked us what we liked and then had margaritas personalized to our own tastes that were off the menu. He served them to use on a tray that he walked over on his head and kept up there as he pulled each drink down and handed them to us. It was so entertaining and each drink was perfect for the person who chose each type of taste. Overall, our appetizer choices and dinner choices were all crowd pleasers. We ordered the guacamole with pineapple and crab and also shared the empanada of the day. Both choices were perfectly done and enjoyed by all. I ordered the enchilada playa and it was so good - lots of lump seafood inside and the sauce was creamy and delicious. Tequilas has always been one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the city and it never disappoints!

Sigh. So much promise. The food is quite nice - the steak was yum, the guacamole was also delish. The margaritas are stiff. The ambience, especially on May 5, is hopping. But the service was disappointing. They seemed to just want us gone, so they could get to the next guests. 11 of us - we were done in an hour. That's how in and out it was. On another day, they're probably lovely. Last night, it felt rushed and we felt shoved out.

Tequila's offers a varied menu with traditional dishes. The guacamole is wonderful and the queso fundido too. The margaritas are strong and the dessert crepes are meant to be shared. Above all, the service was extraordinary. Our waiter was attentive, helpful and took great care of us. Highly recommend this restaurant!

Nice and fancy. I came here for happy hour and the food is very nicely presented, taste really great. The drinks were great as well. The bartenders were professional and eager to serve.

I ordered the fish special, and it was delicious. My wife ordered the Pork, and it was also very good. We never order the same dis, we always share. They do have good margaritas, but if you want a pitcher, you'll need for ask for it as they don't have it on the drink menu. They also have outside seating, which we enjoyed this past weekend.

There were 3 large tables filled with people in our group of meeting attendees. We were seated immediately and entertained by a server passing out glasses of ice from a tray on his head! Each table ordered a pitcher of margaritas. I did not partake but my friends said they were delicious. The guacamole was the best I have ever had at a restaurant. I could have just ordered a big bowl and eaten it with a spoon! Entree serving sizes were generous. I left most of my entree, however. On the West coast, where I live, refried beans are pinto beans. My chicken was smothered in refried black beans, which I loathe. Sine the cheese was melted over the top I had to scrape everything off. Such a letdown after that awesome guac. But the service was great and the others in my party liked their entrees.

Go off hours. In the evening its too noisy and crowded. The food is very good. The ambiance is lovely and creative. Large Dia Muerte murals. Love the grouper stuffes with guacamole

My wife and I have traveled to Mexico several times, eating in some of the best restaurants in Puebla, Oaxaca, and Mexico City. We've bemoaned the fact that there don't seem to be many Mexican restaurants in the Philadelphia area that come close to the authentic cuisine. That is, until we discovered Tequilas. Our meal was during Restaurant Week, when we could get three lunch courses for $20. Our first-course choices were tortilla soup and empanadas. Suffice it to say that the tortilla soup was the best I've ever tasted, and the empanadas were excellent. Second courses were cheese enchiladas and grouper with mango sauce, both of which were superb. The enchiladas were simple and perfectly prepared, and the fish was lip-smacking good! Desserts were flan and chocolate mousse, also delicious. The food was easily on par with the best meals we've eaten in some of Mexico's finest restaurants. The dining room is elegant, the soft music is Mexican, and the service is friendly and efficient. All in all, it was an unforgettable meal. We will return often!

all around a great experience. Service was excellent and the food was creative and very tasty. The desert of flan and chocolate cake is not to be missed. And the drinks were very good.

Went to celebrate my daughter's birthday for lunch yesterday. I originally made reservations for 4 but changed to 5 last minute and was accommodated quickly. Place was very beautiful, (one of the reasons why we chose this restaurant in the first place is the curiosity to see the art work and chandelier). Food was seasoned perfectly and very good. Will go there again.

This is good Mexican. Enjoyed the sautéed scallops and shrimp over bacon mashed potatoes. Yes you read that right. My companion enjoyed the chili relleno and couldn't decide which one he liked better - the savory with cheese or the sweet with raisins. We started with the guacamole and flights of the house tequila and mezcal. The meal ended with their chocolate cake topped with flan. This is good stuff...

Having lived in Mexico, I had a constant quest to find good Mexican food and I think I did. I love good quest funded and this did not disappoint. With crunchy chorizo on to off a proper cheese, I scooped it onto delicious fresh corn tortillas as it should be served. Heavenly. I opted for the pollo mole poblano and enjoyed every drop of the succulent sauce. A proper classic Margarita topped everything off. If I have one complaint, it is the lack of a Mexican beer selection. Corona doesn't cut it. I will definitely go back when I return to Philadelphia.

We were a party of nine, who had reservations last Friday night. We were seated right on time, after wonderful greetings from the staff. Hubby enjoyed a Bourbon Manhattan and a beer. Three friends shared a pitcher of margaritas, and they raved about them! A shout out to our server Alex, who went above and beyond to make us comfortable. We enjoyed these: Caesar Salad, Fish Tacos, Chicken Tacos, Queso Fundido, Chiles Rellenos. I loved the Tortilla Soup! It was a real deal meal—great food and service.

A truly authentic Mexican experience. Upscale dining and fantastic service. The mole poblabo was the best that I have ever had (and I have had some very good ones).

We strolled in around 3 PM before a flight out of town. Happy hour had begun and we were the only ones there! The bartender served us gorgeous metropolitans, (a martini with tequila) tacos, empanadas and seafood enchiladas. The restaurant is in a beautifully restored diplomats home. Stunning and mixed in with tasteful Mexican decor. Go there!!!

This isn't a taco and burrito restaurant. It's a higher end Mexican restaurant with friendly and attentive service. The food is always good and it's consistent. The white sangria is perfect and it's a great place for friends and family. It's a quality restaurant with quality food and some unique dishes.

We get lucky to be here in September in the time of “center city district restaurant week” the three course meal was delicious authentic Mexican food and was surprisingly amazed with good quality ingredients! The drinks very well prepared the service really attentive! The ambience was cool and the decor was very artistic! We enjoy a wonderful night of Thursday!

I wanted to take my friend somewhere special for his birthday. He loves Mexican food.I can take it or leave it. To help narrow my choices, I consulted a local "best of" list. The pictures on Tequilas web site of the beautiful 19th century building the restaurant is housed in, made up my mind for me. When we arrived 30 minutes prior to our 7 PM reservation. We discovered a very crowded, attractive restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating options. All ages were represented. This not only was a testament to the popularity of the place, but it made me feel comfortable. We hung out at the bar until our table was ready. When I mentioned to the congenial bartender that it was my friend's birthday, the birthday boy was given a very generous portion of tequila, courtesy of the house. We were seated promptly at 7. Our shared appetizer with melted, gooey cheese was delicious. My friend just loved his seafood enchiladas playa. I really enjoyed my deliciously prepared fish salsa tequilas. For desert, we shared a yummy cake consisting of chocolate mousse, flan and more. At one point 3 waiters enthusiastically belted out what must be the Mexican version of Happy Birthday. The birthday boy was once again treated to what may have been a chocolaty tequila courtesy of the house. Our waiter, unfortunately was not warm or friendly but he was efficient. The prices were somewhat steep but certainly in line with similar fine dining restaurants in the Rittenhouse Square area. We would certainly return there again.

As a Tequila aficionado, I always appreciate when a Mexican eatery provides a healthy Tequila menu. Anejo Tequila is much like a fine scotch or whiskey. Not intended for Margaritas but for sipping slowly. Don Julio 1942 for $25 a pour was one of the most reasonable prices I have come across in a restaurant. Lots of very good and different Margarita choices. Actually the food was very good. Some standard Mexican fare but many upscale choices that any foodie could thoroughly enjoy. Service was excellent for our party of six. Very cool bar area and lots of great mural style painting everywhere. Indoor and outdoor seating. Very cool vibe.

On a Saturday night, without a reservation, so we dined at the bar. The place was jam packed, but service was nonetheless friendly, efficient and fast. My husband has the molcajete with chicken, served in a steaming lava stone bowl with sides of rice, beans, guacamole and tortillas, and he loved it. I had the chiles rellenos. I'm vegetarian, so I ate the one stuffed with cheese and save the one with picadillo for my husband. Alta cocina, so not your cheap Mexican food, but everything beautifully done. The main rooms are also quite lovely, with gigantic mirrors and intricate wooden carvings around them.

The main dining room/bar of Tequilas, which is in an old historical building has a rich wood interior. The high ceilings add to the sense of being in an important place. Tequilas is conveniently located to the theater district. It is 1/2 block from the16th street Patco stop and two blocks from the Academy of Music. We dined here in advance of seeing the Nutcracker. Dinner seating starts at 5:00, but the bar is open all afternoon for drinks and Mexican ‘bar’ food. Tequilas food can best be described as upscale Mexican. It is artfully presented and has unique flavor combinations. Their chips and salsa were both fresh and the salsa had a nice chipotle flavor. Both my wife and I enjoyed their cheese stuffed shrimp wrapped in bacon as an appetizer. For entrees I had the Pescado Al Mango, which was two lightly breaded grouper fillets, sandwiching a guacamole stuffing — all covered with a mango & ginger sauce. My wife had the Enchiladas Playa, which consisted of tortillas stuffed with crab, shrimp, & lobster topped with creamy pepper sauces. For dessert, we shared a slice of Tres Leches cake, which was moist and refreshing. Service was prompt and friendly. We’ll definitely come back for dinner again.

Had a previous dining experience and found the food and service and atmosphere to be terrific. Not tonight. Service was mediocre. Food even less so. Simple enchiladas were poorly prepared and tasteless. Atmosphere? Was seated in the large back room that has been cramped with tables. Decibel level was well north of 80. Had to yell across the table. All for $300 for two couples. Never again.
Wonderful and Out of the Ordinary
Really enjoyed the decidedly non-Tex-Mex food. Upscale Mexican (yes, this exists!), I had one of the specials which were delicious pork medallions in spices and sauce that I can't adequately describe. When we showed interest in the tequila selection the host came over and spent time explaining the nuances of tequila and the flavors associated with the different agave growing regions. We really enjoyed the adventure, and learned to sip our tequila with the house's own sangrita (look it up, great way to enjoy fine tequila).
