Great Experience

By RiverReader |

My husband, mom and I went to Terzo Thursday night. Our waiter was excellent -- attentive but not intrusive. The wine and food were top notch. Mom and P had small plates; I had steak. All very tasty. It is expensive, probably not more so than simlar places. Lovely experience.

Disappointed by the bland food

By Stephen S |

To be honest we were a little disappointed with Terzo, especially given it’s reputation as a foody place. Maybe we made a mistake in going for large plates, some of the small plate dishes on neighbouring tables looked and smelt more uplifting. My pork loin was excellently cooked but could have done with more seasoning or a suace to lift the rather bland flavour. The braised cabbage and spaetzle which accompanied it really had no flavour at all. My friend’s chicken served on a bed of Orzo pasta was equally bland and about a third of the size of the portion I’d eaten elsewhere the night before for about the same price. My dessert of chocolate midnight cake was moist and light but lacked the big chocolate hit one might have expected whilst my friend’s “sundae” consisted of two scoops of ice cream with a squirt of chantilly cream and a drizzle of sauce. On the plus side there’s a reasonable range of well kept beers, service was friendly and prompt and the decor and ambience are very good. But this was our most expensive meal around Cow Hollow and by far the least satisfying. I also couldn’t quite understand their adding a 1.5% service charge (yes that’s right not 15% but 1.5%). Not really likely to influence the size of the tip and surely just a way of pushing up the prices?

Loved the food!

By damantiwana |

Went there for an early dinner- loved the food and great collection of wine! I liked that they had a lot of natural/organic options. Ambience was great too.

Under Appreciated in the SF Scene

By Oaklandish3 |

I was very pleasantly surprised by Terzo. We had some of the best service we've had in a long time. The restaurant was not horribly noisy and the ambiance modern but warm. We had a pretty big group of 7 and the service handled us well with many orders of small plates. The kitchen paced the food well. We tried a large portion of the menu and found almost all the items well above average and some really stellar. We loved the truffle egg bruschetta. All in all, I'd say it is a very under appreciated spot.

Delicious Hidden Gem

By stLTravelLover |

This restaurant is very close to our friends' home - so it was a no brainer when we decided to meet up while on vacation in San Francisco. The staff was incredibly welcoming and friendly, the wine was top notch and the food was delicious! There is parking available if you have a car, and we will certainly be back!

Exceptional Birthday Dinner!

By Frankey |

My family, friends and I celebrated my 38th Birthday with Terzo, Being a concierge myself and having been to many great restaurants you can trust me when I say It was Indeed Excellent! It's all about flavor ambiance! Staff were kind and knowledgeable. David the manager made sure we had a lovely table next to the fire place, Great touch David thank you! If and when you plan to have dinner here you must try the "Baked Polenta" its a winner! The "braised Pork Shoulder with Cabbage" was amazing as well. Thank you Thank you "TERZO" for making my 38th a fabulous one!

All around amazing experience!

By Megan W |

I was recommended this place by a friend and I'm so happy that I was. The food was literally jaw-dropping, the service was amazing, and the ambiance was great! We ordered the arugula salad, the beets, the meatballs, crispy onions, and the gnocchi. Every item was to die for and I cant wait to go back!

Great food and ambience

By ShikhaP86 |

I found this restaurant through good reviews on Yelp. The food was great especially their small plates!!! :D

Great food, atmosphere and service.

By food-travel-fun |

I was taken to this restaurant on a recent trip to SF, we had tapas which was all lovely, the service was very friendly and attentive. Even though it was a Tuesday night the restaurant was buzzing.

Wonderful!

By woodlandridge |

We visited Terzo while staying in SF. It was by far a highlight! The food was outstanding, and the waiter was excellent. The place was packed, so make a reservation at least 24 hrs. ahead of time.

Great tapas.

By montrealer77 |

I am a great fan of tapas restaurants, where one can sample many various dishes during a single meal. The menu offers the choice: either small plates, 2 to 3 being recommended for a meal, or regular size portions. The menu is said to change regularly, in order to reflect the products available. I had the calamari, perfectly grilled, not too doughy or chewy. The Pacific Rock Cod in Papillote was also excellent, quite a large serving for a tapas. Finally, the nettle raviolis made an excellent complement to the meal. The server explained me that the thorns went away during the cooking. Service was excellent throughout. The only thing that bothered me was this note, at the bottom of the menu: "A 2% service charge will be applied to the bill to help offset the cost of SF ordinances" I sympathize with the cost of doing business in a large city, but as a customer I expect that the prices that are charged to me include a normal profit. Big hotels and airlines got into the habit of nickel and diming us for a lot a unexpected "extras", I hope the restaurants will not also fall into this.

Delish. Hopefully you are able to order the peppers. Not always on the menu.

Neighborhood Gem

By sboroski |

Being a NYC transplant I've found it hard to find good restaurants in the Bay area. They are there but are few and far between. We were lucky enough to stumble into Terzo one day and were pleasantly surprise. From the food to the decor it was everything you would hope for in a neighborhood restaurant. The menu changes which is nice, I would recommend EVERTHING

Neighborhood delicious

This is the kind of restaurant you wish was in your neighborhood. The staff is friendly and knowledgable. The food is fresh, creatively prepared and beautifully presented. The laid back atmosphere makes this a first choice for casual dining with excellent food.

Great Saturday buzz!

By Katherine T |

I had a delicious meal here with my boyfriend. The menu is split up in to small plates and large plates but all portion sizes are fairly decent. We are big eaters and had four small plates and one large plate, which was the perfect amount for us. I would recommend having the hummus, which was creamy and authentic. The large plate chicken dish was moorish and fell off the bone as it was so tender! There is a great selection of wines to choose from to accompany your meal; we went for a $40 Pinot noir, which was fantastic! I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a Saturday night dinner! Great atmosphere, delicious food and excellent music.

exciting and delicious food

By BERWOLF |

exciting and delicious food combinations. Service is a bit slow at times. We enjoyed very much the grilled calamari, the risotto, the grilled chicken, the fish entree, and the grilled vegetables. The almond cake and panacotta were great

undiscovered gem!!

By solysombra99 |

It is owned by the folks who run Rose Pistola in North Beach and the food is excellent. Small tapas to large entrees. We ordered about 7 small plates and loved all them!...just go!

Fabulous food in an upbeat-vibe neighborhood restaurant.

By Debcook35 |

We went for restaurant week, the place was busy already at 6PM, but we were greeted warmly and sat at the bar for a glass of wine prior to being seated. Our waitress timed out our dinner beautfully- 3 courses of two different dishes turned our meal into a lovely experience of sharing 6 delightfully prepared dishes of fresh, thoughtful food. Wine pairing included in the reasonable price of $67 per person, but small pours so we did order additional glasses. Terrific meal and experience.

Adventures in out-of-the ordinary eating

By kbranman |

We found this place via Yelp and because it was still early on a weeknight went without a reservation. By the time we left, however, the place was packed so, probably you should start with a reservation. The menu apparently changes regularly so the items we enjoyed are likely to be replaced with new wonderful items on the day you visit. We were not super hungry so we each had a dinner salad (looked rather average but the dressing and seasoning were a cut above), split the grilled butternut squash and brussels sprouts (subtle brown butter and honey making this delicious and not sweet), and split the skirt steak with chimmichuri. We had plenty to eat and literally left not a morsel on the plate thanks to attention to detail by the chef (half the steak was medium for me and half was med. rare for my husband). Even though we could easily have stopped, when I saw Gala apple crisp with vanilla bean ice cream on the menu I HAD to try it. Best apple crisp I have EVER had - not overly cinnamoned or too sweet - excellent balance of flavors. Very respectably wine and beer list, as well as a decent non-alcoholic beverage selection. The service was thoughtful and professional - everyone was attentive but did not hover. The server was well-versed in the menu and the subtleties of the dishes and their preparation - critical because some of them were a little "out there" and without an understanding of the dish we may not have ordered as successfully. Restaurant is not inexpensive but we felt that the value was there for the most part. Valet parking is available after 7 pm I believe - a lifesaver because this is a highly residential neighborhood and parking is a challenge.

Interesting, varied and prepared brilliantly

By Pippiduck |

This intimate Cow Hollow neighborhood restaurant is just amazing. What an incredible array of dishes -- all brilliantly prepared, and all interesting and varied. And, my understanding is that the menu changes often, if not daily because ingredients are selected for their freshness and availability. Many are farm- sourced. The portions, even tapas size, are quite generous. Among the dishes we shared was hummus with home baked pita bread, arugula salad, moroccan chicken, roasted brussel sprouts and squash - an incredibly delicious preparation that would inspire even a non-veggie diner, and calamari. Dessert was also excellent. You can't go wrong here. I only wish I lived n the neighborhood and could come often.

Share small plates and you'll be happy

By MauriceTheTourGuide |

My wife, son, and I enjoyed a wonderful meal here last Friday evening. Our waiter suggested 2-3 small plates for each of us to share. We ordered six items, a bottle of nice red wine, one dessert, and went away very content. The standouts were the cauliflower soup, the rock fish in papillote, and the bruschetta, but each dish was very good. The place was empty when we arrived at 5:30 but was packed when we left at 7:00. The food was excellent and the service was great. We'll be back.

Off the Beaten Path, but a Gold Mine of Delectable Flavors.

By ericzanes |

A great little hole in the wall restaurant in the Marina District of San Francisco. The service is impeccable but the food is even more. Great and unusual combinations of wonderful foods combine to leave your tongue asking for more! I found that since it is such a small restaurant, the noise level gets to you after a while; unless you are lucky enough to have a seat that is sheltered from the noise in ones vicinity or have a bottle of wine dull your senses. All-in-all, between the food and service You can’t go wrong. Enjoy!!!!

Just Shy of Great

By Claycle |

I am eating (mostly) vegetarian lately after coming off a child-centric traveling diet that consisted of far too much beef, burgers, and fried things. Now that I am traveling alone, I am making up for it by consciously seeking out restaurants a picky, pizza-loving 11-year old would avoid like the plague. Thus, I ended up for a late dinner in Terzo, a farm-to-table chef-driven Italian-inspired restaurant that looked promising. Upon sitting down, I asked for some sparkling water and bourbon - and was denied a bourbon because the restaurant's bar is limited to wine and beer. No problem. The wine-by-the-glass menu was generous and I settled on a Nero d'Avola that was just fine. A quick glance at the menu showed that there was many vegetarian or mostly-vegetarian options. I opted for two small plates - the hummus (the waiter singled it out) and the panzanella (I'm a sucker for panzanella). I also ordered a half-portion of the hand-pulled pasta. The pasta was excellent. It was properly al dente, with a mild pesto, tiny but potent tomatoes, and tiny slivers of romano beans (a flat snap bean) cut on the bias. The panzanella fell short of excellent because of the unnecessary addition of both goat cheese and black olives, which combined tackled and pummeled the brilliant heirloom tomatoes into submission - the cheese and olives added too much brine and pungency to the salad. Still, I ate every scrap, but I wished either the goat cheese or the olives were not in the mix. Whereas the panzanella swung too far in the pungent direction, the hummus fell completely flat in the opposite way. Lacking any discernible acid to lighten and brighten it, this chickpea paste was overly thick and leaden. The house made pita that came with it were soggy: limp, useless tools for scooping up the "hummus". I optimistically ate less than a third of it until I concluded that no, really, this was a terrible rendition of a very basic dish. For dessert, I decided to test the kitchen one more time by choosing the simplest dessert: chocolat chaud. This was served in a demitasse and was excellent, almost redeeming the failed hummus. I almost ordered a second cup, but restrained myself. Best to leave happy and almost full. The restaurant itself was beautiful. The staff was friendly and service was spot-on: not too fast, not too slow. Booked via OpenTable.

Friends and Friends to Be

By Jame C |

Dinner for a dear friend of long standing, her daughter and new male companion was a delight. One of our party was a vegatarian and there were plenty of selections of both large and small plates for that person. The small plate servings of beets, grilled asparagus and cauliflour were delicious, the vegtables fresh and immaginatively presented. Two of our party enjoyed the Morracan chicken which was exotic in flavor and presentation as well as just good. Another had perfectly grilled salmon while the vegatarian had a pasta dish. The wine list is short but adequate. Service was unrushed and personal. A hint would be to ask for a quiet table to the rear. The restaurant is small and noise carries.

Wonderfully Prepared Food!

Loved TERZO!!! Wonderful Medateranian small plates. Wonderful Humus, Meatballs, and other dishes to numerous to name here. Go online to their website for the full menu. Very well prepared food, excellent and friendly service and lovely decor.

Excellent Food, Great Place to Eat

By MLT |

The food here is fresh and delicious. We met with friends and shared several of the appetizers and also a main dish - pork shoulder I believe. The pork was so tender that it came apart with a fork. Everything tastes fresh and delicious. I don't care for beets but tried the Roasted Beets and they were excellent. We were there on a Saturday evening and would not have been able to stay if they hadn't just had a cancellation - so make reservations.

Fancy ambience and elegant fine dining

By leo |

The menu is a variety of Italian /American fusion. The price per plate is not that expensive. This fine dining resto is world class. Highly recommended!

Great meal and value

By russeyes |

We came here to celebrate our anniversary and were not disappointed! Every dish was delicious, from tender and flavorful meat balls on the bed of polenta to amazing grilled squid with caviar lentils. We also shared Moroccan chicken and it was superb. Our waitress was knowledgeable and attentive. Her recommendations were spot on! Great experience overall! Will come again...

Nice local place with great food

nice bar, good wine, great service. Many small plates for sharing. I keep coming back here. They have one table outside so you can bring your dog (and a jacket).

Excellent food, low-key, great service

Perfect dinner after a long day of walking. Small plates to share, and even standard dishes had an interesting twist. Our waiter was excellent, overall a great experience.

Don't miss this little gem

By Cindy T |

We were visiting San Francisco from NC and picked Terzo on line for their menu which was very appealing, especially the small plates. We love to try lots of different things. Each dish was perfectly prepared and presented. We ordered 4 small plates to share and were impressed with the way they paced the delivery of each one. The dishes came in exactly the order requested. We were not hurried through any of the selections. The white wine flight was also a nice way to sample several wines. Our waitress, Niccole, was especially adept at describing each wine; one could almost taste them just from her description. We chose the chicken spiendini, arugula salad, panzarotto & marinara and tomato braised pork meatballs. As mentioned earlier, each dish was excellent. Our particular favorite was the panzarotto, which Niccole explained was made with potato dough. It was like a calzone except the bread was delicate and more delicious. The ending was a simple vanilla ice cream sundae with cappuccino, a delightful and perfect finish. We could not have been more pleased with this experience and plan to return to Terzo on our next visit to SF.

Happening Place with Great Food

By GarryZ |

Recently on a trip to San Francisco, had spent an entire day in Napa, I know, what a shame right! and we were tired and wanted to find a place for tapas. Terzo was highly recommended so we gave it a try. The restaurant was of course packed on a Saturday evening at 7pm, but they had a "community table" that they use in the middle of the restaurant to seat either large groups or people that don't mind sharing their table with others. I personally like this as you can enjoy your friends, family, etc, and you may have the opportunity to share a little with other people as well. Even though the restaurant was full, the service was still quite attentive. We tried the Braised Niman ranch lamb shoulder, which was delectable, the roasted beets were just what you would expect, cooked beautifully, and tasted great. We couldn't get enough of the roasted vegetables, and the grilled calimari was wonderful. I always prefer grilled to fried, and these were not chewy at all, and not the little tiny rings, but the actual calimari, as it's supposed to be, in long strips from the body. All in all this was a really nice experience. I would definitely recommend giving them a try, and I'm sure to go back next time I'm in San Fran.

The decor/ambience, the service and the food were all excellent. We were a table of four and we had four small plates and four large plates. There wasn't a weak link among them.

Outstanding Tapas

By Justyn B |

Terzo is one of those rare gems that blend delicious food, great service and cool surrounds. Located on a Union Street, Terzo is handy to the Marina district, Cow Hollow and Pacific Heights. The reception is warm and the service attentive. We shared various tapas lates and all were excellent, but the gnocchi was a standout. Best I have had anywhere. We would certainly return.

Unique combination of food

By Nice lawyer |

We travel to San Francisco annually. We have our regular great restaurants to visit. We alway try one new location each year. For 2019, we tried Terzo. Terzo exceeded our expectations, by a wide margin. My wife and I were not certain what a Morocco, Spain, Italy and France inspired food might look like. Our curiosity led us to Terzo and the food was spectacular. We started with the arugula salad. Terzo served that with chunks of cheese and nuts. The salad was lightly dressed and very fresh. Next we selected the meatballs and polenta. This was a 10 out of 10 appetizer. The polenta was creamy and the meatballs were not overworked or packed too tightly. For my entree, I accepted the waitress's recommendation of the Moroccan stye braised chicken. She was spot on because the combination of dark meat, moroccan seasonings, basmati rice, nuts and yogurt was amazing. I would not try this restaurant without someone at the table ordering this entree! My wife selected the linguine with house made sausage. I noticed my wife was a tad quiet after being served her entree--once I tasted the pasta I figured out she was busy enjoying the food!! Both entrees were home runs. We selected the apple crisp for dessert and Terzo made this outing a clean sweep. Warm and fresh ingredients with a local ice cream shop's excellent vanilla ice cream. We visited Terzo in February, thus it was not busy. We enjoyed a split booth and the restaurant had a nice Goldilock's ambiance--active enough to be interesting, but not too loud and not too busy. Terzo is now firmly fixed on the annual must visit restaurants in San Francisco.

One of the Best Neighborhood Restaurants!

By Michael C |

The service is excellent. The menu changes depending in what the Chef can get fresh....the selections of items are always great. My favorites are their seasonal soups, Tomato Braised Pork Meatballs, *Fried Egg Bruschetta,Roasted Crispy Chicken Breast and their deserts. The food it excellent at a fair price. Marinda is the manager, Mark the Chef and the service staff are all excellent!!! You will love it!

Local gem!

By Val-Lincoln |

Came here for our anniversary after reading positive reviews and so glad we did. Non descriptive from the street, you’d walk right by and miss the wonderful food inside. Get 3 or 4 small plates to share. Decor nice, ingredients creative and fresh and our server Nicole was outstanding! Courses came quickly without ever feeling rushed, the staff is just super attentive. So glad we found it! We’ll be back

Great neighborhood restaurant

By Wanderdogs |

I asked a friend who lives in Cow Hollow for his favorite local spot - so we could have a nice dinner on our way home from Sonoma. He characterized this one as having great food for a reasonable price, with a good wine list. He was spot on. Our dinner for two with three glasses of wine ($15-$18 each) was $118 not including tip. There is a larger area to the front, then a narrow area (where we sat) and then a more brightly lit room at the back. It had a great neighborhood feel - the waiter seemed to know lots of the patrons, but we got great service regardless. When I wasn't sure of the wine to choose, he quickly brought tastes of the two I was considering. We shared eggplant on crispy polenta, and then had a spicy linguini dish and a Moroccan chicken (thigh and drumstick, succulent meat easily came off the bone, with a lovely, delicate flavor) with some veggies and rice. A fun, cozy experience.

WONDERFUL!!!

By bdkilbourne |

This was an outstanding restaurant! Probably one of my all time favorites. I would probably go there every week if I lived close by. We had three appetizers and every one was delicious and very innovative. The skirt steak was also fantastic. Process affordable and to die for as was dessert. Best of all was our wonderful server. Everything she suggested turned out to be worth every penny and she gave us very personal attention. I felt like my measly 30% tip wasn't nearly worth what I got!

A casual neighborhood SF restaurant with very good food, great service and is well worth a visit

By Dave B |

As several previous Trip Advisor reviewers have mentioned, Terzo is a casual friendly neighborhood restaurant with really good food. Its also not easy these days to find a restaurant where you can actually talk to each other while enjoying a pleasurable dinner. Terzo is all of this and more. Getting to Terzo is not exactly easy to get to these days for us considering the usual bad traffic from the Palo Alto area where we live, but it was certainly worth the trip. We found out about Terzo from watching the recent local Check Please Bay Area show on PBS. Our server Ron was very efficient and helpful in recommending the wine (a Spanish Albarino) that would go well with our dinner. Our dinner consisted of 2 small plate appetizers that were both very good, the Tomato braised meat balls in Polenta and the Chicken Spiedini skewers. Our main course, which we also split, was the braised Pork Shoulder with pureed butternut squash and red cabbage. Excellent. We topped off our evening with a glass of 20 year old Taylor port to go with a piece of chocolate cake. I can certainly recommend Terzo for an enjoyable evening and a delicious meal.

Great place near Union Street

By deborah e |

I've been hearing about Terzo for a while and finally made it in. We had beautiful weather, so some people were seated outside, most at tables and then some at communal tables. We loved the menu and had a hard time deciding! The mozzarella was fine, but our favorites were the Chicken Spiedini and Steelhead. Next time I'm definitely ordering the Fried Egg Bruschetta - it looked amazing! Really nice wine list and great service. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it- it has great neighborhood feel!

Found this great neighborhood

By JoeSpag |

Found this great neighborhood restaurant and came away totally impressed. Octopus and lentils had a deep depth of flavor. My wife had the flank steak and loved it! I had the mahi mahi and it was delicious! Paired a beautiful Merlot -Cab (her) and a French chenin blanc (me). The flourless chocolate cake was mouthwatering. Great atmosphere-elegant, stylish, and comfortable.

Loved the Area, Atmosphere, Food & Service

By Anchored |

We love the laid-back and relaxed Marina area so we were excited to try Terzo. It lived up to its great reviews! The restaurant was busy (we had reservations) but we never felt rushed or neglected. Our server was EXCEPTIONAL and patiently answered all of our questions, giving recommendations when asked. The hubby and I shared a variety of small plates and found each of them -- without exception -- to be delicious. The server recommended drinks based on our personal tastes and did an excellent job. Hubby loved his beer and my wine was perfect. This place has it all! Highly recommend

Buena comida y muy buen servicio a un precio razonable (para ser San Francisco)

By Manel M |

It is in a nice neighborhood. The service is great and the staff is really helpful. We ordered the calamari, the wild salmon and the fussili and everything was great. Excellent wines. Good value in price for San Francisco.

Great California Cuisine

By Mikhail V |

Terzo is one of our favorite restaurants in San Francisco, and perhaps our biggest go-to recommendation for people visiting the city. The restaurant is probably best described as Mediterranean, but they utilize local ingredients (as great SF restaurants tend to do). For its quality, Terzo is very affordable. We recommend ordering several small plates and one entree (or just all small plates). We particularly enjoyed their bruschetta, mozzarella di bufala, meatballs, and fettucine. The rice pudding was also very good for dessert. One note, the back room can get a bit loud and warm, so try to sit closer to the front.

Neighborhood Gem!

By artess1 |

Terzo is one of those delightful gems hiding in plain sight. The interior and staff is friendly & welcoming with a really good wine list. Small plates are lots of fun to try and easily shared. Starters: We tried em' all: definitely Hummus w/house Pita wedges, the great Roasted Vegetables w/molasses, Roasted Broccoli , the Butternut Squash Soup arrives hot & flavorful and Apple Bruschetta is a must. Entres: Definitely share the Linguinie w/Mushrooms, the Skirt Steak & Moroccan Chicken. Note : it can be very busy but the staff tries very hard to be on top of things!

Flavorful and nicely presented. Accommodating service and good selection of wines. Poor acoustics. I would return.

great find in s.f. cow hollow

By travelwork |

This place was recommended to me by a resident who lives in Cow Hollow and she was so right! I'm so glad I had a meal at this place, and I got to meet the chef also, which is always a treat for a foodie like me. Atmosphere and service and a great vibe overall for this little neighborhood place. I started with the autumn vegetables which were soft and sweet and delicious, then I had the Niman Ranch skirt steak with chimichurri on a bed of greens. The steak was cooked perfectly. Decent wine list, very friendly wait staff and hosts. A very nice evening.

Great Night At Terzo

By BellaAnnArbor |

I used to live in San Francisco and we ate out all the time, from the well-known places (Boulevard, Michael Mina, Aqua, blah blah blah) to the smaller places. I visited Terzo on a recent trip back (housed in the former space of Pane Vino in the Marina) and had a wonderful meal. The three of us had maybe six small plates, split a large plate, and split a dessert. We were plenty full. I really enjoyed the food here and I think it was because of the high quality of the ingredients and expert preparation. There was sort of an Italian-Middle Eastern theme going on. The roasted squash with yogurt, mint and harissa sauce sounds unusual, but I can't stop thinking about how good it was. Similarly good was the roasted beets with tahini sauce. The bruschetta with creamy, soft mozzarella di buffala (the chef, who paid us a visit at our table, told us it came straight from Naples) and homemade giardiniera on top of that was wonderful, too. I loved the spiedini; a skewer of marinated chicken and crunchy bread. Another small plate was the to-die-for homemade Italian sausage. The pasta carbonara large plate was good, but I enjoyed all the small plates more. To top it off, they have a great wine-by-the-glass list, which we ordered liberally from. Good combo of high quality California, Italian, French, and Spanish wines, mostly. Very pretty decor. Upscale but comfortable. You can feel comfortable with dress on the casual side (e.g. nice jeans and sweater). In all, a great night with food to remember.

Beyond our expectations!

By Mgrotrian |

Unique and changing menu, friendly & knowledgeable staff, and the atmosphere was great! Tried some new items not usually on menus which was welcome! Wine selection was also very good. We will return to this gem of a find!!

Artisan Italian in the heart of the city

By ArtTownGHW |

We did a birthday dinner here on Sunday night. We had reservations, but we saw several groups arrive without and they were seated immediately. The menu is printed nightly, and the chef prepares a variety of rustic Italian dishes that are outstanding. We had amazing appetizers, and the lamb skewered meatballs were incredible. Our entrees consisted of chicken, pork and steak, and each was prepared with care and a dedication not found in most restaurants. We finished off the night with a flourless chocolate torte that was so rich we all split it. I highly recommend Terzo, it should be on your to do list if your visiting or live here.

Good food

By VSerrao |

Visited Terzo on a Saturday night. It's a lovely restaurant in a quiet area. The place was buzzing with people and had a good atmosphere. Food was delicious and fresh - lots of choice for any taste - the skirt steak was a standout. Had some good local wines as well. My only small criticism was that the service was a bit abrupt and rushed - possibly because they were so busy however that's the only small improvement that could be made. Overall I'd definitely recommend this place for a nice dinner.

Superb

By KathrynR105 |

The hotel concierge recommended it as his favorite and we agree! An attentive and fun waiter and TDF food. Hummus with homemade pita, tender beets, arugula salad with tangy light dressing and exquisite linguine with eggplant, tomato and smoked mozzarella. Great wines recommended by our waiter - a fabulous meal all around.

Fantastic experience and great atmosphere!

By Enjoyingworld |

Just last night, I had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant with family from France and old friends. Our server, Ron, was awesome, with great recommendations and suggestions and when it came to trying to figure out what wine to order given that some in my group had pretty particular tastes, he was also amazing, choosing just the right one for us. The food was superb, and we did a table full of appies before our main course and every single dish was great. The atmosphere is exactly what you would expect for a classic San Francisco experience - cool, laid back yet classy and best of all, excellent products all cooked perfectly. Many thanks to the superb chef and his team and a big thank you to the service team, especially Ron!

Good food

Had dinner last night with another couple. Our first time there. We were very peasantry surprised as the outside of the restaurant does not reflect the stylish interior. The tapas were very good, especially the hummus and manakish bread, a typical lebanese specialty. The Moroccan chicken was delicious as well as the elbow pasta cooked al dente. The chicken skewers were very tasty, with a strong garlic coriander pesto. Don't skip desert as the warm apple crisp is wonderful. Service was very good, our waiter very knowledgeable about menu items. Valet parking is a real treat, $10 ! Overall, Great experience.

Wonderful Evening in Pacific Heights

By EpicureoEducado |

Our Saturday night dinner with friends who live in the neighborhood was fabulous. Waiter very friendly including helping us select entrees and participating in our conversation in an amusing sort of way (our friends are regulars at this spot, so everybody knew everybody). Since there were four of us, we had one of practically everything, including the braised pork meatballs, Spiedini and roasted beets, then a dessert sampler that included the Meyer lemon yogurt sorbet and chocolate midnight cake. Sangiovese for wine. We reserved a month in advance. Great fun if you're in the Pacific Heights area and plan ahead. We reserved a private table and asked not to be seated at a communal table and our request was granted.

great food in a great atmosphere

Great food in a great atmosphere. Server was lovely. We really enjoyed the wine as well. It si definitely a neighborhood gem and I would return here the next time I visit San Francisco.

Good Food, Gruff Service

By DLX812 |

Terzo serves good food -- consistent with its pricepoint and competitors in San Francisco. The room is nice, though gets loud. One server who often works there seems like he'd be much, much happier somewhere else. I hope he gets the opportunity.

Nice neighborhood restaurant in Cow Hollow

By Russ855 |

This is a very lively restaurant and obviously popular with the locals. It has a Mediterranean/Middle Eastern inspired menu which is not very extensive. They only serve beer and wine which is a shame. The service was friendly and efficient. We did not have a single bad choice. The plates vary in size greatly and many are good for sharing. Be sure to ask.

Consistently solid, all-around

By rdski17 |

Terzo is that kind of restaurant that delights on food, atmosphere and service each time we go. Not overbearing in any way, just does it well whether it's a Tuesday or a Friday night. My wife and I sat at the bar and had the hummus, chicken, meatballs and homemade pasta. Each well presented, on time, and delicious. Bartender was attentive and pleasant at the right times. Even the music was fitting and cool. All around, you can count on Terzo for a solid experience.

Great neighborhood casual restaurant

By Freda S |

I love this place--the decor, the food, the service. If anything, they are too generous with their servings. It's all deelish (artichoke with proscutto, hummus, pasta of the day, steak) & the staff seems to really care that they got it right. Not too expensive but not cheap. Good place for friends to meet, have a conversation. It's not too noisy. Very modern interior.

Very good meal

By jiffymatt |

Quite good! We went with friends who are regulars and got the regular treatment, very attentive and great explanations of the menu. We did corkage on a great bottle of Russian River pinot noir our friends brought and ordered a bottle from their list as well. This is a great restaurant in a very nice neighborhood and I would recommend it to friends. Check out the menu on line before you go.

The most enjoyable dinner we had in SF.

By Thomas K |

On the first day of week-long vacation in SF, we had our dinner at this cozy restaurant located in Pacific heights. The food is very good with the moderate price. The most impressive dish is the fusilli. Although It looked simple and was without many add-ons, it has a very smooth texture and rich taste. The rice pudding is also delectable. The most enjoyable dinner we had in SF.

Excellent food and ambiance

My second time there... same great service and amazing food. The range of tastes in the small plates are great. Wine selection super... Will be back.

Very nice place to eat

Nice restaurant in a good location with very good tasting food, served by the service minded staff, also with a recommended and matching nice wine. I would like to get back some day.

Small plates, big money...

Small plates, big money. Bland.

Great atmosphere, eclectic cuisine

By marvin67 |

Quiet little restuarant on Steiner @ Union Street in Cow Hollow area of San Francisco. Although it was not terribly busy, our hotel made reservations for us which I believe is necessary on most weekend evenings. The menu was sparse although adequate with only fresh and, some, organic items. We enjoyed the heirloom tomato salad, roasted organic beets, (their specialty) hummus with fresh pita bread and linguine side dish. The plates offered are either (the 1st 3 items) 3-4ozs and (last item) comes as a 4oz or 8oz plate. Plates of food are either shared or individually ordered. Small portions but all delicious. We did not enjoy a alcoholic beverage but the wine list was plentiful. The waiter was awesome as was all services there.

Nice place

This is Great place - excellent food and reasonable prices - staff was very nice and noise level not too high - we will come back

Delicious meal!

By Waylandtraveller |

Had a wonderful dinner here! So many fabulous flavors! The calamari and lentils was awesome and unique. The meatballs and polenta were so delicious. The gnocchi and mushrooms were so good! And how can I not mention the chicken - perfection. Come with friends to share and taste everything! The portions were quite large for small plates so this was one of the better value wonderful meals I have had lately. And the service was grreat friendly, helpful waiter. No hard liquor but a nice offering of wine and beer. We are all planning to come back soon!

This is a "large" plate?

By anthony229 |

Nice atmosphere. Upscale. Clever mimicry of euro (particularly Italian) "small plate" and "large plate" menus. But speaking as someone who recently spent a couple weeks in Italy, you could still order a pizza and make a meal for under $30 a person. Not at Terzo. Upscale restaurants (and restaurants in general) include a vegetable and a potatoe (or similar) with each entree (plus they put bread on the table). But at Terzo, the "large" plates are more like appetizers - in size. A $28 Skirt Steak was tasty, well presented, but amounting to something like half or less a portion I would expect at any other restaurant. It came with potatoes, but adding that with two "small" plates (at $8 each) yields a $44 meal before tax, tip and the lovely san francisco 3.5% health care tax. (And I was still hungry; and I am not a large person nor eater.) Now, the chef does a nice job. Flavors are unique and satisfying. I enjoyed the meal. But they need to make the portions bigger on the "large" plates. Think of it this way: Terzo is a place where you have to order your vegetable, potatoe and salad separately, in addition to your main entree, which is smaller than normal. If you like the idea of mixing and matching like that, it's great fun and tasty. But be prepared to spend to make a full meal.

A surprisingly lovely dinner!

By Heliana Mano |

Terzo was a friend's choice and I'm glad to say we were pleasantly surprised with how good it turned out to be. I don't fancy $$$ places as the food usually is not up to the mark or price for that matter, but Terzo delivered, and it did that so well. We had a booking for 4 at 8pm yesterday and the place was quite packed for a Monday night - not too shabby ;) Place had dim lights (which I love) giving the ambience that romantic touch and was overall very neat and clean. Oh and they have gender neutral bathrooms - Super! Food was spectacular really. Everything was nicely cooked, tasty and good quality. Between the 4 of us we shared small plates of: - Hummus with house made pita $8.5 - Grilled Monterey Bay Calamari on a bed of lentils $14 - Tomato Braised Pork Meatballs $13.5 - Gnocchi Beef Bolognese on a bed of polenta $15 - Chicken Spiedini $14 - Flourless Chocolate cake $9.5 - 3 flavor ice cream scoops (vanilla, salted caramel and chocolate) Allow me to start with the hummus - simply delicious. That pita was oh so good! Calamari lacked taste (but that's calamari though...) but the lentils were such a welcomed addition that I really enjoyed this dish. Meatballs were superb and what a smart combination with the polenta. Gnocchi were soft, reach and paired so well with the bolognese. Chicken spiedini was really nice too with chicken being soft and the green chutney had a nice kick to it :). Last but not least, the queen of the night had to be the flourless choco cake - so rich and yummy! I might just be back for this! Service however wasn't the most pleasant. Nothing in particularly wrong with it, just not very friendly and warm so it definitely didn't add to our beautiful experience which is something I expect from a pricey place like this. Definitely recommend for group dinners so that people can share different plates or a nice date night. Will be back!

Greate evening out. High pulse and greate food.

Just like a bussy high pulse, big city restaurant shall be. A greate Place, good Food exellent service, far away fom the turist traps.

Local experience

By Ed O |

A great place to go for a local experience if you are staying in the marina area or on Lombard Street. Very inconspicuous and they make you feel great. Good wine list to go with the menu.

Local hosts took us here and we were dazzled!

By seafin90 |

SF locals chose this restaurant for our one 'big' night out and we loved it. They describe themselves as Mediterranean, but I would also suggest that they are West Coast/local fare with a tapas-style delivery. We ordered a number of small and large plates and shared. We ordered two of the tomato braised pork meatballs, but there were plenty of other items that we loved. I heard the menu changes often, so not sure mentioning specific items will be helpful. Smallish, intimate restaurant with service that makes you feel like a regular. There are so many great choices in San Francisco, but I do feel this hit it out of the park and should be on any visitor's "must do" lists.

Tapas!

By Erinn Q |

My friend who lives in the city wanted to eat here so they made reservations. Everything was delicious. The server was knowledgeable and helpful. We started with the humus and asparagus (split between 4 as appetizers). 3 of us got the Mahi Mahi and one got the steak. The Mahi was so flavorful and delicious, it was better than the Mahi at the seafood restaurants where I live in Newport Beach. Highly recommend eating here!

Excellent and elevated neighborhood spot

By Ctmom90 |

Love the outdoor "chic shed" dining. They even brought us a portable heater because it was a bit chilly outside. Loved the roasted beet salad, the tomato braised pork meatballs. Really good wine by the glass. I like that the menu is small and curated. Look forward to my second visit.

Great food and great atmosphere

Went here for a double date and was very impressed--the small plates were all great and the ambiance of the restaurant was very nice. Definitely recommend it!

Mediocre food

By oneyearoff |

We were disappointed in our dinner last night. There wasn't one dish that was memorable. We had: - Hummas - creamy but nothing special - Mozzarella di Bufala - no taste - Grilled Calamari - awful - fishy tasting, rubbery. Lentils ok. - Roasted vegetables - needed more date molasses, never saw the fried sage - Grilled apple bruschetta - probably the best of the small plates we had, but I'm not craving more - Roasted steelhead - good, but nothing to write home about - Flourless chocolate torte - probably the best of the lot The positive aspects of the experience was the attentive wait staff and the golden glow of the interior. I was pleased they asked for vaccination proof. This was a special birthday dinner. If I had not brought a very special bottle of our own wine ($25 corkage fee, reasonable), it would have really been a letdown.

Great locals restaurant

By Snickershey |

We were recommended to come to this restaurant by a local photographer and it turned out to be a real gem. Really busy on a Thursday night - we we were lucky to get a table straight away - which shows you how popular it is! Great atmosphere and all of the sharing plates were great, but a special mention has to go to the flourless chocolate, which was to die for! We were surprised at how reasonable the price was too, as the whole bill came to $130 including wine. We'll definitely come back here next time we're in San Fran!

Cosy Restaurant

Great place, delicious food! Very atmospheric restaurant, San Francisco style, you should visit it during your stay!

Terzo= An Unforgettable Food Experience!

By Barrylyn16 |

Recently my husband and I were treated to a most amazing meal @ "Terzo". Everything on the " Small Plates" section of the menu was delivered to our table, over the course of the evening, and it was one of the best food experiences that we have ever had. Each dish was absolutely delicious and left us anxiously awaiting the arrival of the next. Not only was it scrumptious ... It was FUN!!! By the way...The wine selection and desserts were equally as impressive and the service was impeccable. So... If you're going to San Francisco... wear some flowers, in your hair, and ... Be sure to reserve a table at Terzo!

warm, delicious, stylish and cool

By elisaGlenEllen |

great wine list, FABULOUS small plates, FANTASTIC interesting sauces, each flavor shines through. We had roasted beets and a salad for starter, Mahi Mahi for main course, and apple crisp for dessert...Beautiful and relaxing interior, I loved the banquette and the lighting, it was not loud but felt alive and happy, and the staff is attentive and skilled. You can see the prep and chefs, so GO and have fun!

My Son's Favorite Restaurant!

By CruisenFamily |

Took my son here for dinner (he is a foodie)! He loved it! Said it's his favorite restaurant in the City right now. We ate a lot!! Thanks to the very charming waiter (wish I could remember his name) who directed us through the menu with great recommendations! We had the Chicken Spiedini (DO NOT miss this dish); Gnocchi (YUM- House made); Meatballs (delicious with the creamy polenta); Mozzarella di Bufala (yes! Buffalo Mozzarella flown in from Italy); almond cake for dessert OH MY!! No full ball - beer and wine is available. Tables are a little too close together for my liking so we were lucky enough to get one off to the side. Wonderful atmosphere, noise is moderate, service is fantastic, and the food....well, that is why my son went back three weeks later!!!

Great Menu Selections, Great Atmosphere

By LucBjorn |

Pros: Good and varied assortment of items on menu, great quality food, causal and modern atmosphere Cons: Can be a bit crowded as it's a popular restaurant, even on weekdays I met an ex-colleague of mine for dinner. Usually I choose an entree for dinner and that is it, but the selection of small plates was so intriguing that we just decided to order a bunch of appetizers and share. The food was excellent, well presented in good sized proportions. In particular we enjoyed the calamari, chicken spiedeni and roasted vegetables
