I swear i rated this place last week, but I'm being asked to again. I've never had bad Thai food, in Thailand or elsewhere, so our takeout was OK food, just not good Thai food. I have no idea what the standard in San Antone is for Thai, but this was worse than any I've had elsewhere ever... but as I say, it still wasn't 'bad' food.

Not sure what the actual name of the dish was but I do know in English it said great fortune it was the only dish that said that but omg I will definitely be eating there several more times before I leave here I've already recommend the dish to 4 other people staying in the Marriott across the street. It was a chicken mix of some sort but I've never tasted anything with so many flavor burst at one time excellent!! I'm definitely a Thai fan for life now!!

It was really that good. I had chicken with green beans, and zucchini. Not the Thai curry that I am accustomed to, but it was excellent . The flavor was perfect, just the right amount of basil. I can’t say enough about the meal. The staff were very nice. You are greeted, seated, waited upon promptly , and the food is served very efficiently. I can’t wait to go back. I highly recommend this place for a meal while in San Antonio.

We ate at the Thai Lao Orchid for dinner, mid-week. The egg rolls and sauce were tasty. The Phad Thai was okay, but quite reddish in color and not spicy, even though we ordered it medium spice. I have had much better. The Panang Curry had only green beans for vegies. I am used to it having peppers and basil leaves. The sauce was thin and quite brothy, rather than thicker and creamier as I have had it at many other Thai restaurants. The flavor was fine. So, the food was adequate. The table service was very good, but the restaurant is very small, and the banter between the waitress and the kitchen workers was not appropriate at times. They also decided to close early, since it was a slow night, and then they turned up the music, which contained a little inappropriate verbage. The waitress ran to the nearby corner market to pick up some alcohol at the request of the kitchen worker. Again, it is a small restaurant and they were talking loudly, so it was hard not to know what they were up to. I was not in a hurry, and she knew that, so the timing was not a problem as I waited for her to return. It was just unprofessional. These little things made me feel uncomfortable being there with my young daughter. It was not relaxing.

The place is small and quiet, plenty of space to sit, and very friendly staff. The food was amazing. Although the menu is small, you will not be disappointed with what you get.

Do not even think about dining here if you have a kid!No place to park a stroller and the manager just plainly told us there's no space for that here!Very discourteous!Wrong decision to eat here-definitely!Doesn't matter if the food is good or the price is great if the service sucks it's a wonder why this place is still on business!

I needed to place a "To Go" order. When I walked in this place, I specifically told the employee what I needed. He handed me a paper menu that said both lunch and to go on the front. I again asked if I could order from this menu and was told , "yes". I placed my order. I explained that I needed the curry on one item to have NO, ZERO spice. He assured me he understood and the dish would be mild. When the order was ready, he up charged me $3.00 on every item. I immediately corrected him and showed him the price listed in the paper menu HE gave me. It was then, and only then that he told me that those prices were for lunch only. I reminded him that I specifically asked about this before ordering, but he would not honor the price. To add insult to injury, the curry dish that was ordered mild, was too spicy to eat. Very disappointing, experience learned. I can not in good faith recommend this business.

Small kind of hole in the wall but the best Thai in San Antonio. It is only two blocks from the Alamo but you need to look at a map to find this place. It does not stay open late but is open for both lunch and dinner. I love every meal on the menu but the Clay Pot seafood is overall my favorite.

Thai restaurant was recommended by the hotel staff and had good ratings on trip advisor. Had the yellow curry chicken and the egg drop soup. Very happy with dinner. I will be back next time I am in town.

When we arrived about noon on a Saturday we were the only diners. When we left the place was packed. This is a small Thai restaurant just a block or two from the more high priced restaurants along the tourist route. Walk the extra blocks. It's worth it. The food was wonderful. Next time would order medium spice. Mild spice not really spicy at all, but nonetheless, still good. Friend had noodle dish. Stir fry in a nest of fried noodles. Looked to be a popular dish. Will make a trip downtown to come back here.

I usually eat at this restaurant a few times a month for lunch. The food has always been good. I get the Pad Thai and have not been disappointed yet. Be sure to get there before 11:30 because the restaurant is small and fills up quickly for lunch.

My friend likes seafood and she likes it very spicy. I like vegetarian and mildly spicy. We read the reviews and walked here from the Crockett Hotel. The staff was wonderful, we enjoyed jasmine tea and we each ordered very differnent lunches. It was beautiful, delicious and reasonably priced. An excellent experience

We ordered take out last night. It was delivered promptly, came well packaged and steaming hot. The portions were slightly smaller than what I am accustomed to. The flavors were fabulous. We had red curry, massaman curry and dumplings.

I havent had good thai food since I left my home nyc but going to san antonio this past week and finding this authentic restaurant was a god send!!! the drunken noodles and the pad thai is to die for so fresh, so yummy. Please go and visit this restaurant.

This authentic Thai spot is a few blocks away from the River Walk and well worth the stroll. We were recently sampling Thai restaurants in LA and can say this beat most of them. We had a giant lunch for 2 for around $18, including a sample of the ginger soup....wish I could have had more. Pad Thai, spring rolls...so good, great value and really really exemplary service ( I think she was the very nice owner). So forget the chains along the river walk and eat here. PS- They were doing a very brisk take out business even at 2 pm,

The dining options around the River Walk area quickly became tiresome - same Mexican-for-the-masses and bland Italian peppered with intermittent steak houses. I was finally able to break away and a short walk later found the wonderful Thai Lao Orchid in an unassuming block of shops. The restaurant is small and not decorated heavily. Sure, it may be a bit rough on the eyes, but after several days of "themed" eateries - this was a blessing! I was eating early and the only one in the restaurant. My waitress was very pleasant and recommended a garlic dish. Since I had no one to kiss that night - I played along. I ordered a thai iced coffee while I waited, and it seem only a matter of moments before my food arrived. My garlic laden vegetable and chicken dish was steaming hot and everything looked incredibly fresh. One bite was all it took. The days of warm, bland food quickly disappeared into the rear view mirror of my mind. The portion was very ample and I could have probably saved some to take away, but it tasted too good and I just keep eating. I would love to sample more of their food and wish I had discovered this gem sooner.

Great service. Friendly servers and their recommendation of garlic lovers with chicken was lovely. Fresh hot lunch. Plenty of flavor. Served with rice. Nice settling away from the hustle and bustle of the river walk.

We saw some good reviews so decided to try this place. Big mistake. The Miso soup was so so. Mine was pretty flavorless. My entree of noodles, tofu, and veggies was passable--barely. Pretty bland. My friend's green curry dish was so over salted as to be inedible. We told the apparent owner who rudely told us that no one had ever complained about the food. We did. She offered to redo the dish but my friend passed. My Dr. Pepper refill never appeared. We paid and left unhappy and hungry with nary a word from the owner. We had good Mexican food later elsewhere. I don't recommend Thai Lao Orchid. Pass. If you go, hope you have a better experience than we did. Never again. Thanks. complain

Delicious and delicate flavors. Perfectly cooked steak and fresh al dente vegetables. Small "Mom & Pop" authentic Thai restaurant. I will return to try Everything on the Menu.

I am a bit spoiled having been to Thailand and for having Thai food many, many times. It was solid, sort of North American-ized, but it was solid. I got there and they said to just sit down and pointed at a table, then was asked to move to a 2-top (which I would have done anyway if not told to sit where I sat in the first place), so I had to move. I ordered the Tom Yum Soup with Shrimp and the Pad Basil, two fairly standard Thai dishes. The odd part was the Pad Basil came out before the Tom Yum, so it was a little backwards. The Pad Basil was okay, I asked for it to be spicy (levels were mild, medium, spicy, super spicy as explained) and it was very mild, so I can only imagine how mild the mild would have been. The Tom Yum soup was good, not great, but had 3 shrimp in it. Not the best I've ever had, but not the worst. I have been to Thai restaurants in many different cities and have had it so good on a 3 day trip that I went back a 2nd time, this is not one of those times. I don't want to say it isn't worth it, it was okay and I was fine with having gone, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go back.

I just needed to eat something besides tex mex and pizza, and this place provided the alternative downtown. The food is OK, the atmosphere is ……..functional, the service is good, but the value is low…….HIGH prices for the quality and quantity…..and a bland watered down, americanized? version of asian food.

We went for a late lunch. The place was empty. We usually have bad feelings about empty restaurants. (Actually San Antonio was empty that Tuesday afternoon). As we entered a friendly waitress took our order and we were impressed. One of the most delicious Thai meals that I had. It was more than what I expected and we were surprised. Also very cheap. Great place in downtown.

It is easy to miss Thai Lao Orchid as it is tucked away without much fanfare, easy to miss at night. The restaurant small, with friendly service and the food is well prepared, reasonably priced and tasty. You can tell the waitress how spicy you want your dish - medium has quite some heat. Care is taken also with presentation- a serrated edged fan is made from a carrot with a sprig of parsley was perched on the side of the white square plate. My friend had a delicious pad thai with tofu and I had a rice noodle dish with veggies and pork in a flavorful brown sauce. Service was fast and the dishes arrived steaming hot. For a quick and filling lunch or dinner that sits between the Alamo, River Walk and nearby theaters, this is the place to go if you want something to satisfy cravings for some Southeast Asian cuisine.

This is about a block over from the Alamo, and is worth a trip. Small place, but staff are nice and friendly, and service is good. Tried the crispy egg rolls, which came with a peanut sauce of sorts - delicious. For my entree, I went with the standard Pad Thai, with chicken. Packed with flavor, good sauce consistency, just spot on. I realize it's not the hardest dish to make, but a remarkable number of spots mess it up something awful. This spot is well worth a visit. Delicious.

We were walking back from The Alamo to our hotel looking for a lunch place and spotted the Thai Lao Orchid. We were sure delighted by the menu, food and service.

Enjoyed a Tom yum soup and seaweed salad. Prompt service, reasonable pricing. Credit card was accepted, contrary to some reviews

We found the Thai Lao Orchid tucked away just a few blocks from the Alamo on a not-so-frequented street but very nearby. The restaurant is quite small but there was no trouble getting a table. The service was excellent, and the food was great. We love Thai food, and this was as good as any we've had.

The crew here definitely has a panang curry that has an authentic taste and can turn up the heat if you ask for it. However, I can't let this dish just get away with no one knowing about it at a price of over $12.00. This dinner portion didn't even make the size of a lunch portion anywhere else I've been. The order was placed in-store for take-out 10 minutes later. The vegetables in the curry were practically non-existent with the exception of a handful of cut green beans. I can't think of another thai place that has curry with such a small amount of produce. I can't even remember one day later what other vegetables may have been included. I've been here before and don't remember being ripped-off this badly let alone at all. I will have to give this place a 3rd try..but with all the other options in the area, it will be atleast a year before I may decide to return. Smallest portion ever, puny amount of vegetables, less than a half-cup of undercooked rice that was nowhere near sticky, at a price of over $12.00. I just can't do it again anytime soon.

Tired of the tourist oriented Mexican and Steak resturants. Take the side trip to good quality Thai.

We ordered take out dinner from Thai Lao Orchid. The downtown location is convenient and easy to access. The Yum Shrimp Salad and Crab Salad were both good, with fresh tasting vegetables and seafood. Our meal was ready quickly.

We love Thai food and this place is authentic. Great service, great food, great location and fabulous iced coffee-Thai style.

Thai cuisine is known for its balance of 5 fundamental taste senses: hot spicy, sour, sweet, salty and sometime bitter. The undertone of lemongrass is a must. Sadly, Thai Lao Orchid missed this balance. Presentation and flavors did not compare to Thailand or Thai cuisine in Tokyo. Staff was extremely friendly and cooks were very kind. Just disappointed in this Americanized version of Thai cuisine.

I am one of those guys who likes it hot. So when the very nice waitress suggested a garlic dish instead of Thai basil I said sure but make it spicy. Wow was it ever spicy. Wife had the pad Thai which she. Thought was very good but slightly over spicy for her delicate tastebuds. The chicken with peanut sauce appetizer was tasty. Atmosphere ok, place glean, server friendly and helpful.

My colleague and I visited during a quick lunch meeting. Quick is right; they were so fast! And, they accommodated any special requests with no problem. The food was excellent, and the service was great, too. I recommend this restaurant highly.

The River Walk restaurants all had 2 hr waits. Not here! At Thai Lao Orchid, we were seated immediately and served promptly. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. Worked well for our gluten-free friends, too.

We visited when the AC was broken, so lets put that aside. Other than being 85 degrees inside, the inside is dark and smells like fryer oil. This restaurant is walking distance off the riverwalk/Alamo area, and has a good sized menu. While the food is tasty, its hardly authentic feeling. Prices lean towards the higher side, and the waitress/cashier, while super friendly, was the only person working the dining room, answering the phone and serving guests. This place seems quite small, and their takeout business is quite busy. I probably would find another place to dine if I were to visit the area.

It was late and we were tired. I called in an order to go. My husband was able to walk over and bring it back in under 15 minutes because this restaurant is so close to where we were staying, Best Western Premier Historic Travelers Inn. We just ordered 3 appetizers. Food was just so so. Spring Rolls were not very good. Chicken Satay was not very good. Best one out of the 3 appetizers was the edamame. I wouldn't go back again.

Wasn’t sure how it would be based on other mixed reviews. I ordered to go so I can’t comment on the service although the lady at the counter was perfectly nice. The Thai crispy egg rolls were delish with a little tricky spice you don’t realize right way. Although stuffed I ate the whole order. The pad Thai with shrimp was also good. Way more food than I could eat. No complaints

Mmmm Neum. Authentic Thai and Laotian flavors. Unique dish with crispy rice, fresh green onions, nicely minced chicken breast served with fresh crisp lettuce and cilantro. Delicious!

I got the Tom kha with chicken, chicken spring roll and green curry with chicken. The Tom kha was good, different than what I'm used to but good. Spring rolls were good, but not much chicken. Green curry had excellent flavor but was very thin and not much veggies or chicken in it.

In fairness I asked them to make it gluten free so substitutions may have to have been made. Regardless, I eat Thai a lot and this isn't one I would visit again.

Nice break from the Tex-mex theme of river walk. Food pretty good. Descent price & plate size. Quick service. Waitress knows her stuff.

The place is simple, not ideal for a date. I ordered Bun Combo for to go and it was decent. People were friendly and helpful. The price was the same as any food court.

We stopped by for supper after reading all the glowing reviews only to be super disappointed. We got there a little after 8 and ordered right away. We had an order of spring rolls which were very good but it was down hill after that. We had the crispy noodles and all that can be said about that is bland. Tofu was over done, way too many onions and didn't have any flavor. The pad-si-ew(?) with shrimp was very poor. The sprimp had no flavor at all and tasted like the farm raised crab from the east and way over done. There must have been a ton of onions it it and some carrots. Really poor Thai. Maybe it was because they wanted to close as it stated closing hour was 9 but they locked the door at 8:30 and refused phone orders from then on. Gues we got the bottom of the pot!

The quality of the cooking here was rather below average for what I'm used to, and I've been a Thai food fan for years. The lemon grass garlic stir fry was extremely salty, and the miso soup had a strange, not so pleasant sour taste that is not typical of miso soup. On the bright side, the wait staff was very nice and helpful, and the restaurant itself is clean. It's very small and not very fancy inside. Not a place to impress your date with. Prices were fairly reasonable though.

Absolutely fabulous. The service was so fast. Had drinks at the table within two minutes. Had appetizers in five minutes. And entrees came in ten minutes. Had drunken noodles—I LOVED it. Had spring rolls with fabulous dipping sauce. Fresh veggies, seasoned beef, yummy noodles and sauce. Hubby had pad thai with tofu. Hot dang it was good! I would go back again tomorrow.

Pan seared Ahi with succulent veggies. Served with two flavorful sauces, a soy ginger sauce and a wasabi based sauce. Both gently prepared providing a nice contrast between the sweet and spicy. This dish never fails and the smoky veggies are a bonus!

This was an extremely poor managed place. The two waitresses were incompetent at best. Attitude with every question and more rude with each answer. Portions were very small. Can't follow simple directions of sauce on the side instead made my vermicelli dish more like salty soup. Very disappointed in this place as it seemed to be high rated in SA. I'd much rather deal with Panda Express then this place. If you can't follow directions/instructions or hate dealing with customers don't work in the food/customer service field it's not rocket science people. Owner was no help at all and made it out to be our fault despite extra meat and sauce on the side were both listed clearly in the ticket.

I had the Penang chicken that was good, I asked if I could have rice and told it came with rice what I got was a little bowl of rice. That wouldn't have been so bad if the chicken curry was not swimming in sauce so you needed double if not triple the amount of rice served. Customer service was not the best but OK.

Service was exellent and the food was incredible. I had the Punaung Curry my favorite dish and I was not disappointed. The dish was flavorful and nicely presented. The tom yum soup was perfect in every way. About eight of us went and when the entrees were served we asked for 8 spoons and absolutely everything we tried was excellent. If you read my other reviews I can be pretty picky about things - so know this restuarant is worth it in both quality and price. Our new favorite Thai restuarant in the Stone Oak area.

Have just come back from the Thai Lao Orchid. Not much to look at from the outside, but the food was exceptional and didn't disappoint. I had the tom yum chicken soup, lovely and spicy followed by the neum which was so tasty and delicious. We finished with the mango and sticky rice which was as good as the last time I had it in Koh Samui. Have been to Thailand many times, and eaten in lots of thai restaurants in London but this was up there as one of the best I have been to and very reasonably priced too.

Delightful flavors. Well prepared. Restaurant moved to 116 Broadway. Near the Alamo. Very friendly service.

We wanted Thai food last night and a stranger walking walking downtown San Antonio asked if we needed help...yep we live in San Antonio but looked like tourist searching our phone on a street corner for places to eat. The stranger told us to check out Thai Lao Orchid and so glad he did. The food was amazing. I have eaten lots of Thai cuisine in many cities and my in-laws are from Thailand. The meals were so tasty and prepared with great care. I ordered one of the curry chicken dishes...there were 4 to choose from. It was excellent!! My daughter had the Pad See Ew - she loved it but wish the noodles had been pan fried a little more - since that was how she usually liked it. We spoke to the chef after dinner to tell him how delicious everthing was. He was very gracious. Service was fantastic. We didn't wait long for our meals. It came to the table smoking hot! Prices I felt were reasonable. Our two meals, an appetizer and Iced cold Thai coffees was about $38. The restaurant is cozy, clean and well decorated. The location is downtown but located on a kind of run down street - not dirty, just an old unattractive area but don't let this deter you! This food is the real deal. There are some meter parking on this and some nearby streets so you may not have to pay for parking. I read some of the other reviews...those people must have either had a bad day or WE had a really Good day. Most of the time, if it doesn't have a child menu...then well (maybe not designed for the little ones) WE plan to go back again really soon!

This is my regular Laoation dive. The Panang curry is awesome, as is the Naum (which is overpriced, but I just shut up and pay). The wok throws up a thunder-cloud of steam and permeates the restaurant, and a little guy with the apron and the mustache is rolling all kinds of fabulous ingredients into fresh-tasting dishes that keep me coming back. BYOB. Great place to meet with friends.

Awesome Thai food. We are visitors to this place everytime we visit SA. We absolutely love their Thai tea!

The waiter was accommodating of special requests, friendly staff, good atmosphere, fast service, and tasty food.

Looking for a cheaper, tasty option compared to the River Walk then this place for you. Very simple place but the food is delicious. Judging by the steady stream of non-tourists, this is clearly a local favourite.

Oh, the Riverwalk has changed. I was so surprised to find that there were NO Asian restaurants there any longer. The only options (per the googles) seemed to be two places in the mall (um, NO) and perhaps one other in the area that closed at 3:00. Fortunately, I saw the listing for Thai Lao Orchid. The restaurant is small and tonight it was fairly warm in there but it was SO worth it. We ordered the potstickers, egg drop soup, Pad Thai with chicken and Massaman Curry with chicken. The potstickers were perfect (except that I wanted about 20 more of them): crispy on one side and yet tender. The meat was tasty and tender. And the sauce was literally the best I've ever had. It was thick, almost more like a glaze than a sauce. The egg drop soup was good but not great. That I probably wouldn't order again. It was just a little bland. The Pad Thai was excellent. The sauce was a little different than I've had before (we ordered 'mild,' by the way), a bit sweeter but very good. I've saved the best for last: the Massaman Curry was phenomenal. The sauce wasn't as thick as I've had in the past but it was so flavorful. Chicken, potatoes, and carrots and a wonderful sauce... couldn't ask for more. It's described on the menu as "... with a harmonious flavor," and as odd as a descriptor as that is, it is so appropriate. The service was fantastic and quite a contrast to the lackluster service we've experienced on the Riverwalk. Prices were good and servings were generous. I can't praise this little restaurant enough. Per google, it's literally 1/3 of a mile from the Commerce St/Losoya section of the Riverwalk. Do yourself a favor, escape the mediocre food along the water and get something you will actually be SATISFIED with. YUM. (We may seriously go back for dinner tomorrow.)

This restaurant moved to downtown San Antonio about 9 months ago. What looks like a little hole-in-the-wall restaurant is actually a superb little Thai bistro just north of Houston Street at 116 Broadway. It is just a few steps away from the Alamo, the River Walk and the Majestic Theater. The website is www.thai-laoorchid.com. My wife noticed it on a recent trip downtown and after looking at their website we decided to try it before a SA Symphony concert. Wow, we were very surprised! The quality of the food, freshness, and the presentation was exceptional. Most meals are abour $9-12. Of course the sauces and curries are what make a Thai restaurant great and we were not let down on these. We definitely look forward to coming back here again. (They do close at 8:30 so you can't come here after concerts, etc.)

I ate here twice while on a business trip to SA- for dinner and then for lunch the next day. This is a rather small restaurant but service is quick and the food is good. I had the massaman curry and for dinner asked for it to be prepared extra spicy. The dinner portion was huge and it was very hot! I loved it. The curry was the perfect consistency and had balanced flavors. The next day, I ordered the same curry for lunch but my coworkers with me ordered a variety of items- noodles and pad thai. We all enjoyed our food. Keep up the good work.

My wife and I went there for lunch today. We were pleasantly surprised how good this place is. We ordered rice chicken soup, Thai Jerkey, and Steam Clay Pot. All were excellent! The soup was small, but was delicious! So were the other dishes. The ambience was pleasant. I strongly recommend it for people interested in Asian food in San Antonio.

My daughter had pad sasiew and I had the bun combo and miso soup. The miso was great. The waitress asked us how spicy we wanted things, and they hit the mark. It was really fast as well and very reasonable. It's kind of a hole in the wall. My daughter is 16 and really likes ethnic food. Not sure it would be great with little kids.

Chicken satay was good and really cheap compared to the high price it generally goes for. Ordered a second one. The peanut sauce and cucumber/pepper sauce were good and also a generous portion. Pad Thai was good. Green curry was really nice. We would probably not have walked in because it is a very simple place. The other diners, with one exception, were young working people from the neighborhood. Very nice server. An excellent experience all around. BTW, a review we saw mentioned a sushi bar and other Asian food. May be their other location on IH-10. Definitely no sushi bar here.

We went at a peak time. The service was phenomenal. Not big on this type food but it was great for the type. We were initially at a table were the sun was beating down on us and when the server Maria realized it she moved us to a cooler shaded table. Couldn't ask for better!

This locayion is at 5440 Babcock Rd, Ste 135, 78240 (at Eckert rd). Food=GOOD & PLENTY. Had to take half home. Seasoning up to you, mild or hot. Take out. Delivery (ZULAFOOD), Catering. Everything was delicious. Boba tea and smoothies.

Curry was like water with few vegetables or chicken and fairly bland. Thai spring rolls were tasted similar to that found in the frozen section of your local grocery store. Pad Thai was bland and the chicken was full of grizzle. The restaurant was filled with smoke (presumably burnt food) with an overall poor atmosphere. If you are accustomed to good or even fair Thai food you will be disappointed. However, with all this being said the service was fine.

This is real Thai food. The pad thai was way too spicy for our liking, but for someone who is used to the spices I'm sure would love it. The dumplings were AMAZING though.

I went for lunch, and needed a wheelbarrow to carry me home. I couldn't resist trying a full run of the menu. Started with the Tom Kha soup with chicken. Right amount of spice and very flavorful. Main was Cashew Nut with chicken - Stir fried baby bok choy, cabbage, carrots & onions finished with roasted cashew nuts. Very delicious with spiciness to order as expected. Washed down with Thai iced tea that was just right - not too creamy or sweet, and not too thin and bland. Very enjoyable experience, and would highly recommend to any who are visiting the Riverwalk area, as it's a fairly short walk north.

We waited an incredibly long time for our food, and when it came, many of our dishes were cold. Several of us sent our plates back, and the dishes came back very quickly and were the exact same dishes - clearly, they had simply popped our food into the microwave. Unacceptable. To top it off, neither the server nor the manager apologized.

Small quaint restaurant in downtown San Antonio, First, if you are dining in, the place is incredibly noisy due to mechanical equipment. Not a pleasurable experience. The dishes my husband and I had were okay at best. Not very flavorful, and we are acquainted with this type of cuisine. Not to discourage, but not on my list to recommend,

The food here is noteworthy compared to other Thai restaurants! The flavors are excellently balanced and clean, you'll want to enjoy to the last bite. The green curry was a treat!

The name is changed to KK Thai also and Sushi. Same address. Menu has all the standard Thai items most people are familiar with. Some sushi dishes but we did not try any. Had noodle dishes and egg rolls. All excellent. They will make it spicy to your taste. 3 is medium and for someone used to spicy foods it was a bit mild. They do lot sell wine, beer or alcohol. We would go again.

This small restaurant, not far from the Alamo, makes a good pho, which requires a good broth. Their Vietnamese hot and spicy soup is also pretty good, as are the spring rolls. Our only disappointment was the service - they failed to deliver one of our entrees, which held things up until things got sorted out. We visited for lunch and found the place adequate to our needs, but in no way remarkable, other than the all-important quality of the broth.

I had chicken pad Thai that was just so so. For the portion size I felt it was overpriced and did not have much chicken or other ingredients in it except the noodles no bean sprouts. The service was average and I probably would not go back.

We visited for lunch on a Friday afternoon. I ordered the Pad See Ew and it was not good. Flavor was lacking and the noodles were cut too short. Usually a sign of not enough good soy sauce/ oyster sauce and not long enough / high enough cooking temp. Others in our group had shrimp Tom yum and curries which was decent. This place is cash only and large groups are charged an 18% gratuity.

This restaurant just opened a location in Spring Branch, north of San Antonio. We tried it last night and it was amazing!! This will be a new favorite for us and will save us from driving into San Antonio for an excellent meal!! If you are north of the city and looking for a good place to stop try Thai Lao Orchid in Spring Branch!

This very small restaurant is walking distance from the Alamo. Excellent prices and service. Very good food. I had the chicken clay pot and my friend had the chicken curry. Will definitely go there again.

We found Thai Lao Orchid from an ad in the the hotel room and after days of BBQ and Tex-Mex we were ready for a taste change. Thai Lao was just what the doctor ordered. First, this is a small, let me emphasize that - small, restaurant. It might seat 25 - 30. We got there on a chilly Tuesday night and got the last table. Folks stood waiting for tables for the rest of the time we were there and the phone seemed to ring constantly with folks calling in orders. And when you taste the food you will know why this little gem is so popular. The food was very fresh, infused with great flavors and hearty portions. My partner had the Seaweed Salad and said it was really good. I went with Tom Kha soup and it was excellent. The Panang Curry I had for an entree was amazing. I like spicy but told them to go "medium" hot and this was plenty hot enough for me. My partner asked for the spicy red curry and at times I saw his eyes water which meant it was just how he liked it. This location only serves non-alcoholic beverages so if you want a glass of wine or beer with your meal this is not the place for you. But if you want an authentic, delicious Thai meal while in San Antonio be sure to check out Thai Lao Orchid.

I had pad thai late one afternoon in San Antonio. Nobody else was in there. Service from the Filipina server was very friendly and quick. Pad thai was not the kind I particularly, kind of the ketchup-y tasting one that often is served to foreigners in Thailand. Not bad, but not spicy or tangy enough for me.

We visited this restaurant during a trip around Texas. the restaurant was close to the Hotel. We ordered starters and main course and everything was just great. Fresh and tasty and with spicy Thai flavours. One of the best Thai dinner we ever had and really cheap too!

#Theloveisreal!! my love for Thai food has deepened so whenever my honey ask me what i want to eat my 1st thought is Thai food, and so today was no different. Since we were out and about, and wouldn't be able to get back to cook dinner i googled Thai food near me and came across Thai Lao Orchid down town San Antonio on Broadway. We sat down and i ordered the panang curry (medium spice)with chicken, mushrooms green beans, peanuts and Kaffir lime leaves the dish came with a nice hot bowl of steamed white rice which looked scrumptious and my husband ordered the Pad Thai with Shrimp everything was fresh, and the first bite was OH MY GAWD YUMMY! i was nestled in a creamy coconut curry sauce, with fresh green beans and basel and the medium heat brought all the flavors together. The Location is very centraly located on Broadway in walking distance of the Riverwalk and to anything in down town San Antonio, however the down side if you drive in like we did it's on street parking which sucks because you have to keep monitoring the parking meter. The restaurant is well lit has a cafe vibe. I am OCD with public restrooms and was impressed that their restroom was clean and well stocked with toiletries. yes i said Restroom there is only one unisex restroom that is open only to restaurant patrons!. if you have left overs they pack it for you and even add silverware in the bag just in case you got hungry on the rd lol

This Thai restaurant serves authentic Thai dishes and is located within a close walking distance from the Alamo mission. The food served is delicious and the ambiance is relaxing. Pricing is very reasonable and customer service is extremely friendly and courteous. Would very highly recommended this restaurant to anyone in San Antonio and who craves for authentic Thai food.

Tried the steamed clay pot. It was absolutely fantastic. Restaurant has a nice cosy feel. Would recommend.

Thai Lao Orchid offers better than average Thai Cuisine amongst the downtown scene of San Antonio. Steps away from the Alamo, riverwalk, and many historic buildings, this establishment serves more than adequate helpings of Tom Yum/Tom Kha soups, spring rolls, and many tasty thai dishes. My visit consisted of Shrimp Tom Yum, Tofu Clay Pot Delight (stir-fried rice w/ vegetables), and Taro Boba (drink). The Tom Yum made this visit for me - perfect balance of flavors and the Shrimp is a must. My Tofu Clay was served "spicy" but my thai cuisine experience has taught me true spice and this was a little lacking in the heat department although quite tasty with hints of ginger throughout. The Boba was a bit of a disappointment as I did not care too much for the small chunks of ice cubes. All in all, a good thai meal in the heart of Tex-mex country. If you are ever in town, come try Thai Lao and share your thoughts.

Shrimp Spring Rolls with the smallest sliver of Shrimp I’ve ever seen. Pad Thai taste was strange. Potatoes in curry very hard.

Simply outstanding quality and service. The food is authentic and very high quality. . Was in town for a week and went back 3 times .

The kitchen staff made two the the menu dishes with tofu instead of dead animals...and both were amazing! Thank you so much for offering vegan options to your guests!

Once you move a couple of blocks out from the Alamo, the food options open up. This is a very small storefront restaurant with fewer than a dozen tables, so it can get crowded. The lunch menu is not large but, because each preparation style offers a choice of different meats, tofu, or vegetable option, it is flexible. The Tom Kha soup is wonderful, rich with coconut milk and galangal. Best I’ve had in a long time. The complimentary cup of soup that comes with the entree is a very bland and unexceptional egg drop soup. The Thai Lao appetizer sampler is good but be aware the version of spring rolls offered is cold raw veggies and cooked noodles wrapped in lettuce leaf and rice paper, not fried. Those with peanut sensitivity may need to be very alert. Despite repeatedly requesting no peanuts in anything, the appetizer platter sauces came garnished with ground peanuts and had to be sent back. The menu does not mention the peanuts. The clay pot is good comfort food, with mushrooms, onions, and carrots over steamed rice. Mild but delicately flavorful. Good, fairly quick, and reasonably priced.

Unfortunately this place has a roach issue. Couple of months ago a coworker found a roach in his Pho. There is no other place downtown so decided to try it again today, three spoonfuls into the Pho and a live roach crawled out of the vegetable plate. Apparently after calling to their attention that there was a roach issue months ago didn’t spur any regard to addressing the issue.

Very reasonable prices. Looks like a dive. Very old building and surroundings Smoke from cooking permeates and food has 4 levels of spicy Phad Thai excellent. Spring rolls great

Tiny, little storefront off the main strip. Wonderful food! Excellent service! I was delighted! This was the best meal we had in San Antonio. Vegetarian and gluten-free friendly. The dishes were beautifully presented, even the vegetables in my stir fry were artistically cut and sculpted. And very, very tasty. I don't think they serve alcohol.

This restaurant is listed on Urbanspoon as being a sushi restaurant, There is none on the menu. That said, it was a decent enough place. Mostly Thai--I did not scour the menu for Vietnamese (which is another thing that USpoon says they serve). The Panang Curry was okay, I ordered mine medium, which was fine for me, but a companion ordered the same dish and asked for it to be very hot--we compared and they were indistinguishable. The crab roll appetizer was made with fake crab--which is fine but the menu did not say that. Still, it is a relief to find Asian food in a city dominated by greasy Tex Mex. TLO was located conveniently, off the Riverwalk Disney frenzy. easy to find. I recommend it, just so long as you are looking for middle of the road Thai food....

We loved it for dinner and thankfully we have a few more days as we will definitely be returning. Basic unpretentious interior but we were there for the food and the best Thai in Texas was what we experienced. I'm a lover of Fresh Spring Rolls and these were super! We like heat thus we asked for the fish water with chopped peppers along with the sauce it normally comes with - YUMMM! The kind of place you want to see thrive so that it'll be there the next time in town. Chicken Satay, Tom Yum soup, Tofu options, Pad Ginger, Pad Thai, Panang, Massaman, Red, Yellow and Green Curries, Pan Seared Red Snapper or Salmon, Seafood Clay Pot, Larb Kai (traditional Thai-Lao dish; minced grilled chicken seasoned with freshly squeezed lime, lemon grass, red onions, cilantro, & scallion), description taken from menu. So many enticing dishes to choose from and I didn't even get to the house specialties. This is their downtown location. I imagine the sushi is available at another location. This one more than satisfied us! Do enjoy! Address is 116 Broadway Street. Steps from attractions. The Alamo Is very close. And don't be turned off by the basic appearance. Everything is clean, veggies very fresh & crunchy, awesome flavours and excellent value. 5 Star!

We ordered 3 dishes, including pad Thai and massaman curry. All were tasty, though the portion on the curry was pretty small. Service was slow, and after waiting almost 15 minutes, I actually had to walk up to the counter to get the check. They had the audacity to add a gratuity of almost 20% to the bill! This was a party of 4. Unacceptable. I won't be back.

The place is really not much to look at, but the food is pretty good. I ordered the Pad Thai and it was really tasty. The place seats maybe 20people tops, and not much from an interior style wise, but the food makes up for it.

I ordered take-out, and had only one dish, so I can't comment on the whole menu. It was prepared fast, which is a plus. Flavor was so-so — neither exceptional nor poor. I'd requested spicy, and it was quite mild, which was a disappointment. Prices seemed rather high ($15 + tax for a chicken dish).
A decent Thai restaurant
A quant restaurant off of San Antonio's Broadway st and only 3 blocks from the river walk. I had Tom Yum with shrimp and Massaman with chicken. It was a decent meal but not one I would request again. The establishment was run down and reminiscent of a "hole in the wall". The restrooms are down a narrow hall in the back passing the kitchen. The Tom Yum just barely surpassed a ramen noodle bowl's flavor. I asked for it to be spicy, which is the hottest level they prepare and I barely tasted the spice. I must commend the chef on the size and quality of the 3 shrimp he served in the bowl. The Massaman failed to highlight any peanut flavor and was too watery for my likening. The chicken lacked seasoning but was plentiful. I give Thai Lao Orchid 3 out of 5 stars.
