Delicious shrimp!

By AurorasEnvy |

As a shrimp-lover who lives in the Midwest, I am forever on the hunt for good shrimp/seafood places here. We were very pleased with The Angry Crab - the BYOB concept is great, and the food was even better. We devoured 3lbs of shrimp, and it was delicious! Like others have mentioned, it's a bit messy, but not a problem between the bibs & rolls of paper towel they provide. Highly recommend!

The question is: do you serve Loster rolls?

By carla482015 |

Me and my daughter took the train to Wicker Park from S Clark St to look for Lobster rolls. The Angry Bird reminds me of Boiling Crab in Garland Tx by the décor and atmosphere. The Angry Crab is more spacious and not as many tables. We sat down and was immediately given a bib and orders were taken in a timely manner. We could see the big chalk board of items and prices(in and out of season), and the waiter broke it down for the new customers that we were. They serve Blue crab, Jonah crab claws, lobster claws, crawfish, shrimp, mussels etc, but I was there for a Lobster roll(other than ribs, lobster is 2nd best for me). The Lobster was very good, my daughter thinks she is slick, she ordered shrimp and fries(though she stated she wanted a lobster), she tasted mine(twice). Over all it worth the trip to eat good and be full...

I have to call all three because I was in HEAVEN! Their new location on Milwaukee just recently opened and it's closer to me! They serve the freshest, finest and BEST seafood. Nothing else compares. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE VARIOUS SPICES and guess what...NO KNIVES OR FORKS!

Really Fun and Delicious

We were celebrating the birthday of a family member who was in-town for the weekend. He loves creole flavor and seafood, so The Angry Crab's new location in Wicker Park was an ideal pick. This place does not take reservations and is known for long lines; we were delighted when, around 6:30p on a Sunday evening, we called and were told there was no wait for a party of 8. We were quickly seated and warmly welcomed by our server. The menu is simple; you order bags of seafood by the pound and choose your spice level for the sauce. We ordered a total of about 10 pounds of seafood at varying spice levels plus a few sides. While we waited, we enjoyed the atmosphere--totally casual. Younger kids with us enjoyed writing on the walls (which is encouraged by the staff) and we all enjoyed the diverse crowd and people enjoying the experience of eating with your hands. The food arrived and we dug in! Definitely use the bibs they provide; eating here is a messy, hands-on affair! You'll definitely use the paper towels they provide and head to the sinks at the back for a post-meal hand wash. We really enjoyed the meal; the spices were as promised (mild was flavorful but not crazy hot; hot was hot). The clams were yummy, the shrimp were cooked perfectly, and the crab was meaty. Fries were really good as well and proved the perfect way to finish-up the remaining sauce. Prices vary since it's market rate for the seafood, but we felt we paid a very reasonable amount for the food provided. It's also BYOB (with no charges to open what you brought), which helps keep the price down. A really fun, casual meal and a great way to dine with family. Excited to return!

Always Pleased

Quite a few additions to the menu since I've last visited. The lemon pepper fries and crab fried rice are a must! I enjoy the entire concept and the fresh seafood flavored to your liking... irreplaceable!

Date night!!

Incredible food seasoned perfectly! The service was awesome! Great ambience for the place. I absolutely would recommend it for celebrations, parties, or just going to have great seafood and a good time. Definitely will be coming back!! Notice that the shells are stacked up... all done and eaten!!

Let's get crackin'

The Angry Crab is a Cajun restaurant for seafood served by the pound with a variety of mild-to-hot sauces. Ordinarily, my wife and I avoid eateries that specialize in Cajun cuisine. But there seem to more of them popping up everywhere and, to be honest, we're getting used to them. Why? We love shrimp, whether steamed or grilled or fried or raw. And, with proper seasoning, Cajun. Located at 1308 North Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood, Angry Crab offers some tasty and tangy and tantalizing twists on Cajun cooking. We started with cornbread and garlic noodles with shrimp, parmesan cheese and chives. For an entree, my wife ordered a half-pound of sea scallops with potato, lemon pepper, garlic rice and French bread. I couldn't resist a pound of headless shrimp with Cajun Andouille pork sausage, garlic butter, garlic bread and garlic rice. Garlic, anyone? Open from 5 to 10 Monday through Friday, 2 to 10 on Saturday and 2 to 9 on Sunday, the Angry Crab also has a location at 5665 North Lincoln Avenue in Chicago's West Rogers Park neighborhood.

An Experience

Great spot for a group setting. Quick and delicious. Highly suggest the crab garlic fried rice and the king crab legs. Will definitely be going back!

Crazy manager!

By B Conner |

Angry customer... I'm shocked by the customer service I just had. We ordered delivery tonight, which we've been doing once a week during the pandemic to support various local restaurants in our neighborhood. We received our food super fast! We got the table set and excitedly opened the bag, and immediately realized it was missing the pound of shrimp -- which was the main part of the order. No biggie, we'll just call the restaurant and let them know. So the server who answered was super cool and apologetic and said maybe they would refund it or maybe we could order again and they'd refund the new order, either of which we were cool with bc we wanted to eat and work this out quickly... but after checking with the manager it was all "we're going to check the video footage because the cook remembers putting it in your order." I told them no bother, I can just send you photos right now, not a big deal let's just get it going. But she insisted, so AN HOUR AND A HALF LATER I get a call back saying they checked the footage and definitely put it in the bag. Well we already ate and gave up and moved on, but I'm like, why would I give a generous tip to our delivery driver and patiently work this out just to pull one over for some free shrimp? We just wanted our food! She just told me over and over that they "did their due diligence and checked the footage" and that I could come down and see it for myself... like I'm gonna leave my house during a pandemic on Friday night to drive over and watch their BS security footage when I have my own photos on my phone? I tried to tell her "hey we're supporting you! We love your restaurant! We just wanted our food and I don't even care about the money but the way you're handling this is unacceptable". She did not care and repeated her due diligence checking the video and suggested maybe the driver took the shrimp out of the bag -- a pound of shrimp, one by one mixed in with mussels and claws and potatoes and corn, in the few minutes driving from the restaurant to our house. How dare you lie and frame the delivery driver, he was awesome and it was IMPOSSIBLE for him to remove the food from the pre-mixed, tied-up, and STAPLED bag. I expressed my shock and honesty that it's ok if it's a mistake and I don't want anyone reprimanded -- I was seriously just letting them know about an honest mistake, but that they would lose a good customer over the handling of this... and she DID NOT CARE. How very super disappointing. Keep the change, but lose our support forever.

A different concept in serving food

By gold-vintner |

Be prepared when you go.....take rubber gloves and scissors !!!! This restaurant serves shrimp, crab of all types and even had Jonas Crab on the menu, which is on a large chalkboard. Don't plan on a business meeting here....it is quite noisy and loud. The seafood is sold by the pound, in even pounds. The Cajun french fries are recommended. The seafood items are served in a LARGE clear plastic bag.....scissors would be ideal to cut the bag shorter so that your elbows are not covered with "sauces" when retrieving the contents. The seafood is 'slathered' with your choice of seasonings & sauces of varying degrees of spiciness (to your order).....thus, the rubber gloves may be helpful in keeping your hands somewhat clean....although, personally I don't think I could peel the shrimp (which were nice size selling for $15.99 per pound for the headless) with gloves....my wife did not have a problem. Be careful in cutting the bag too short....if you do, all of the juices may end up in your lap. Aside from the fries, corn on the cob and andouille sausage are among the sides available. The andouille had some fire but not that much on flavor....have had much better. The king crab legs were large but expensive at $38.99 per pound.

incredible seafood boil

By Andrew L |

great last minute spot. was not busy, but the food and service were incredible. we ordered a lot of food, practically the whole menu

Wow!

By DSS-Bombay1 |

Parked in the parking lot opposite. Ordered the fried calamari, it was one of the best I have had - just melts in your mouth. The fried shrimp were device and the French fries were tasty. Also ordered a pound of shrimp . Enjoyable Tip : order the gloves to eat your shrimp - a good investment ! Will be back !!

Casual and fun way to eat seafood

By Lisa D |

The Angry Crab features all kinds of seafood that is steamed in a bag with your choice of seasoning. You get to pick the different seafood you want, they are purchased by the pound. They cook them with whichever level of "hot" seasoning you want and bring them out to you in a very juicy bag to "dig in". It's very messy so don't wear your best duds, but you will definitely have fun. The food is good, but as a crawfish eater, I suggest you only order the crawfish during the season (after March and before September) otherwise the shells are hard and the seasoning isn't all the way through -- but it's still fun! This restaurant is BYOB ... yay!!!! So bring your own beer or whatever you desire, and dig into a juicy bag of seafood. There is street parking.

Seafood & garlic lover's dream

By Lisa G |

Didn't realize it was BYOB when we chose this restaurant. Luckily the Jewel/Osco is right across the street. We had crab legs, scallops and oysters. Everything was great! Our first server didn't explain the bags method of service, but another girl stopped and filled us in. Really had a great meal. Took me 2 days to get the garlic smell off my hands.

Be warned: spicy is VERY spicy

By Brianna W |

The concept and decor are great at The Angry Crab. It's got a very welcoming vibe. The waiter wasn't great but it was pretty busy that night. They also ran out of a lot of the seafood options, which was odd since we were there at 5 pm on a Saturday. The garlic noodles are INCREDIBLY garlicky. I'm not sure I'd recommend. I had the mussels, and they were SPICY. I had to ask for water refills 3 or 4 times, plus went to the bathroom to rest a paper towel on my tongue to kill some of the heat. I LOVE spicy food, but dang it was hot! The crab didn't soak up as much of the spice, so it was delicious with the spice level it was at (also ordered spicy, somehow there's a level up from what we ordered?????) If I went back, I'd try the milder spice level, because it was a fun experience and there are other menu items I'd love to try!

Delicious Crabs, Excellent service

By Teebanj |

The Angry Crab came highly recommended by a friend since i was visiting Chicago for Labor Day weekend. I wasn't disappointed. Great food. And our server was amazing. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking to delicious seafood. Yum

Great flavors but messy

By Doreen Andrea |

Let me first say I am not one who likes opening up their own crab legs. So I knew this was going to not be for me. But I went with a friend and had crab legs and the cleaned shrimp. The garlic flavor in mild was great. But omg was it messy. I will definitely be back as long as I don't wear white or have a brand new manicure.

Bags of delicious seafood!

By Mike C |

Interesting concept restaurant. A utilitarian design that is modern, clean and well-lit offers a novel menu concept: seafood by the pound, served in bags that keep the food warm and the juices flowing! A table side roll of paper towels and a row of sinks at the back help alleviate the mess of eating with your hands...which, studies show, adds flavor! Great selection of fresh seafood, updated daily.

Seafood in a bag!

By Nancy B |

Loved this place! Newer location, not as crowded. Would highly recommend. BYOB if you want. Nothing fancy, no plates or silverware, just really good seafood. Pick your seafood. Pick your seasoning. Pick your spice. Put on your bib and wait for your bag of deliciousness. You got to try it, you'll love it too!

I hate now there is another place that copies Seafood cooked in a bag but this did NOT impressed me too much

By Art J |

Seafood was "OK" at best. I am disappointed because I know another place that is better but NOT sure who copied in style of cooking their seafood in a plastic bag. The place is called "Crazy Crab" in Evergreen Park,IL that cooks seafood in a bag and It was WAY WAY better!!!. A friend considered it the best but to me it's Just "Meh!" I had 2 pounds of scallops and an appetizer of calamari. The scallops we're OK but the fact of this concept of cooking in a bag has left me disturbed because I think one seafood restaurant is copying another idea which I do not like. My friend who barely eats had the shrimp. It was "OK" I did not think it was worth coming here but that is what he wished to be taken on his birthday. If I had a choice to go here or Crazy Crab I would go to the south side suburbs over this place in Wicker Park. Seasoning did NOT impress me at ALL :(

Messy and Soooo Good

By beccagp1313 |

If you like sea food and don’t mind getting messy - this place is for you! When you arrive and you see the roll of paper towels at each table you have a sneak peak of your future. The four of us ordered a meal for two - that had a mixture of shrimp, mussels, lobster and more, added crawfish and the oyster sampler- it was on. The Cajun fries came first, then the plastic bag full of our order in a garlic butter mixture which also included corn and sausages. The fun began - soooo yummy and we got really messy. If you are in the area worth the visit.

Not an Ultimate Eat for me!

By Jazzgal67 |

The french fries were the best part of the meal. The bag was filled with seasoning but some items lacked flavor. It wasn’t worth $80 for good fries!

Very good and tasty seafood, casual place, interesting place to eat. Good service. BYOB.

By 2goornot2goem |

Tasty Cajun seafood, reasonable price, big portions, good service. You can bring your own beer. Each guest can bring 1 bottle of wine or up to 12 beers. Love their OPEN AIR hand washing station. It's convenient to wash your hands BEFORE and AFTER eating all those yummy seafood. Will definitely recommend to friends and family.

Best seafood around

By MonroeWise |

First of all; everything on the menu is grade A delicious and fresh. Whatever you choose, get the maniac sauce (all flavors) with a pinch of spice. We went for a family birthday and can't stop talking about how GREAT the food was. Absolutely fun, too. A place worth a second or third trip. Ps. The prices will add up fast so be mindful of what you order. Also, you won't be seated unless your entire party is present. No splitting the bill either. Enjoy!

Horrible seafood place

By Josette B |

The food was over cooked, over priced and the service was horrible, racist and just plain disgusting. They are selling some sort of fish and labeling it as catfish. We were very uncomfortable there due to being watched like a hawk our entire time. I have since filed several complaints with the city, bbb and will not let this experience go unheard.

Great Date Night For Long Term Couples

By CatCoif |

The options here are fantastic as far as by-the-pound seafood goes. It is pretty messy though, so it may not be the ideal place to take your first time date if you intent to maintain any semblance of dignity whilst cracking open your dinner, licking your lips and wiping your face of greasy delicious oils. I'll only knock it for two things: 1) The spice mix that they put in the bags appears to use preserved garlic (bleh) and not fresh garlic and has a little bit of a mild sugary taste which I could do without. 2) My boyfriend broke his cracking tool twice. You'd think they would invest in more robust equipment.
