Very nice traditional restaurant in downtown Austin. The bar is beautiful and the decor is somber and elegant. The food was very good and you feel at ease in this quiet and elegant ambience.

WOW, this was some of the finest food and ultimate best service we have ever received. The buffet was better than any cruise ship buffet. Everything was ultra top notched, wonderful service, great atmosphere, such history.

The Austin Club is an amazing place & I'm so happy I've had the privilege to eat here many times since our friends are members. The service is impeccable, great wine list, good cocktails and the food is always great. Also, they never rush you so you can take your time to enjoy good company and food. We also had our wedding reception here in Feb. 2012 and our guest loved the food & the staff was wonderful!

Elegant , charming very quite perfect for an intimate dinner. Ask for a private dining room if you have a group... this historical venue has unbelievable atmosphere. dark woods reminiscent of steak houses of long ago with wonderful sketched murals of its operatic past. Great wine list and deserts to die for. What more could you ask for. Parking in garage next door is very convenient.

We were invited here for the the second time in our lives. It is a great experience because the historic club has so much going for it--great food and historic ambiance. The level of service was not as good as our first visit a few years ago--hence the rating drop. This was still one of the best meals we have ever had at a private club--so many of them are long on tradition and short on quality food, presentation, service and menu options. The chef is extremely personable and pleasant--he likes to describe what he (and his staff) does to people that like good food! The appetizers were incredible and beautiful. The first course of a pork ravioli was wonderful. The duck was good and the desert excellent. The wine parings were also good. The historic building is beautiful from the outside--very stately and was the old opera house. There were a number of top name performers of the time that played the house. It still has some of the original historic Victorian features intact on the inside. It is a little short on quality decoration and historic restoration/renovation, but the visual experience is still very good. It could use a little "freshening" to brighten it up and make the bathrooms more user friendly. The parking next to the structure is very convenient and user friendly. As I said in my first review: "Unless you are a member (and you have to wait for someone to die to get a membership--at a price!) you have to "know" someone to get into it, but it is well worth the effort to find them! Do not turn down an invitation to eat here! It still is a place you want to see and use! We are looking forward to our next event here!

This is an elegant and beautiful place in a historic building in downtown Austin. The wait people are perfect and the food is unusual and delightful. Wine selections and bar drinks are the perfect compliment to the food. This is not just dinner out - it is an experience to remember. Dress up and enjoy!

We attended this venue for a wedding reception. Traditional, sophisticated, upper class, glamorous are only a few descriptors which could be used. Upon arriving, a staff person took our coats, provided a cloak stub, and pointed us in the direction of the reception. As you walk up the stairs you are instantly aware of the elegance of this architectural marvel and of a return to the days of beautiful balls and elegant dinners. Once into the reception area the chandeliers are just too magnificent. There must have been at least 12 gorgeous ones along with an easy-to-read seating chart and generous space for the tables and dancing. The waitstaff were attentive, the wine pleasurable, and the dinner tasty. Quite an evening to remember.

amazing 5-course meal in an old-school exclusive club

First day in Austin and experienced this venue for a special event. Truly enjoyed the historic atmosphere. the buffet meal was delicious. The service was superb. Feel lucky to have had this opportunity.

I attend a reception at this venue and was impressed with its historic style and high class ambience. The hor' derves were exceptional and the service was top notch. I was also treated to the Club's special dessert - the Pecan Roll - amazing!!

Private club but if you have access for the lunch visit, it’s definitely worth it. Service was top-notch very extensive salad bar a couple of soups and some hot items. Nice place for lunch for business or just to get away from the crowds.

Located at 110 East Ninth Street this members club is pretentious and old school with an unnecessary strict dress code. The building is stately and the restaurant serves average food at high prices. It is a place to be seen in

Went to a wedding upstairs in ballroom, waitstaff was great, bartenders funny, and the food was good to. Only a couple blocks from all the bars so we were able to walk there afterward.

I was speaking at a private group and the venue was here. Arriving early to prepare and setup, the staff was great, the food wonderful and the atmosphere real old world Texas. Hope to get back soon.

Attended a reception here one night and it was the epitome of high class, good ole boy, private club atmosphere. Loved the feeling. The door attendant saw us taking pictures and said that we really needed to see the men's restroom. So...after double checking that the restroom was empty we proceeded to check it out. WOW...what a view! As the men do their business they are looking out of glass windows at the Austin skyline. How cool.

To me, no better than hotel food.

My wife and I were invited to a wedding reception here and it was amazing. The moment you walk in you feel like you're in a special place. The ballroom was beautiful, spacious and private. There was ample space for a bar, desserts and private photos (booth). The restrooms were located next to the ballroom. Accessibility and parking was reserved in the same building. This is located in the heart of downtown so other points of interest are a very short walk for your own entertainment before/after your event. I left the Austin Club feeling like I took part in a special event (wedding) but also in a special place.

The building is very cool. The staff is extremely helpful. The food was good. Really can’t complain about a thing. I’m a little shocked that I came to the reviews section and nobody mentioned that the place is haunted. I didn’t know anything about this building until today but I felt it immediately when I walked in. I turned right away and asked a server how old the building was because I had no history of it until after my visit and she said it was built in the 1800s. I then asked her if it’s haunted. She said, “why do you feel something?“ I confirmed I did and explained the sensations. She then explained to me that a spirit named Priscilla haunts it from the days when it was an opera house. Priscilla picked on me a few times while I was there which made me curious so the staff was kind enough to tour us on all three floors. Super cool experience!

Not bad food, buffet style so it's quick, and you're likely to see Texas politicians since it's close to the Capitol, but you need to be invited by a member in order to eat here.

Our experience at the Austin Club was wonderful ! Great food, attentive staff and beautiful ambiance made our evening very special !! Thanks to Ken and everyone at the Austin Club for a memorable event !!

We were at a private event here for the first time ever! We truly sorry that we have not had previous opportunities to enjoy the great food and historic ambiance, but I did not even know the place existed. This is one of the best meals we have ever had at a private club--so many of them are long on tradition and short on quality food, presentation, service and menu options. The chef is extremely personable and pleasant--he likes people that like good food! The service at three different rooms in the structure was superb--beyond reproach. The staff knows how to take care of guests and seem to enjoy doing so. The appetizers were incredible and beautiful. You could see and taste the care and skill that went into their preparation and presentation. The historic building is beautiful from the outside, and has some of the original historic Victorian features intact on the inside. It is a little short on quality decoration and historic restoration/renovation, but the visual experience is still very good. Unless you are a member (and you have to wait for someone to die to get a membership--at a price!) you have to "know" someone to get into it, but it is well worth the effort to find them! Do not turn down an invitation to eat here!

There are fewer and fewer places like this in the world and I was lucky enough to be invited in for a meal. It is like out of a movie. Beautiful, great service, excellent food, and a landmark for the Great State of Texas. There have been many deals made in this place!

The menu at the Austin Club covers every taste. In a hurry at lunch, try the buffet upstairs. Dinner in the formal dining room is a treat. Free evening parking next door. What makes the Austin Club great are the friendly staff, and terrific assortment of affordable wines. Also, with membership, you can enter over 100 clubs across the country - reciprocity.

First you should know that this club, with its proximity to the capital, has many members who are either directly involved in Politics or support the political process. I how ever am not a politician, but a former corporate executive, who has had the pleasure of belonging to this type of club in Denver, New Jersey and now here. Of all the clubs this is the best for Dining and entertaining. Ken the manager, does an excellent job of staffing and planning a very full schedule. The food is excellent. thanks to new chef Brian, and the wait staff is well trained, and the best I have come across in this type of environment. You don't get in here without a recommendation, but find a member to help you get in, its worth the trip, and an excellent bargain

Wonderful, beautiful club for anytime of day, but especially dinner. The food is great, and the staff very attentive. A very English type of decor with elegance.

I ate here for dinner and lunch the following day. The service was beyond exceptional, thanks Luke. Such delicious oysters. True baked New York style cheesecake. The coffee presentation alone included containers of: -Half and half -whipped cream -chocolate chips -coarse sugar (also with other sweeteners) Pricey yes, but very worth the visit if you can afford it. Lunch was a first class buffet...beef Wellington, so many choices. I wish I could afford to return.

My wife and I visited the Austin club in July for our 27th anniversary. It was a Wednesday, and we were the only customers in the entire restaurant. We found that there had been a fire in the building a few weeks prior and that was the reason for the lack of people. The service was nice, but the food was not outstanding. For a place that had come highly recommended we were somewhat disappointed. The food was just "ok." Lobster bisque was rather bland. I am a bit of a food snob though and expect to get what I pay for. I don't care if it's Taco Bell or some $200 per person high end steak house. It better be worth the price I'm paying! Overall I would say because it was a really, really slow night, the actual chef may have not been there that night. If he was...shame on him. The opportunity to make a huge impression on the only two people in the restaurant was right there. No distractions...no big crowd. Since we live in Austin, I'll give another shot. Anyone can have an off night.
Outstanding Service and food
This private club has the best Filet Mignon in Town without exception. From Libations in the bar with a great selection of fine wine by the glass to the dessert of which the Key Lime pie is our favorite. If you get a chance to go on an evening when they have the seafood Extravaganza go for it Unbelievable spread from shrimp, oysters and all you can eat Lobster tails. Fantastic food in a fantastic setting of the old Opera House with convient parking right next door.
