We had been out for dinner and our American relatives took us to the Aviary for a cocktail experience I must admit the admission was overly tedious, the venue locale somewhat underwhelming and the decor could be kindly described as "minimalist" OK, that's the bad stuff out of the way - This place is great!!! We didn't t eat here, but had plenty of wonderful cocktails served with passion and enjoyment with the intent of leaving us with a memorable experience which was certainly achieved You could argue that the cocktails are a little on the pricey side , but hells bells, after a couple, who cares!! Everybody in the place seemed to be enjoying themselves which speaks volumes Definitely give it a go

The place seems like a good concept but drinks were not that good. We did the three course and every drink was tooo sweet. We started off light and thought we would end with a drink like an old fashion but that was too sweet and we were ready to just leave. If the drinks weren’t so sweet we would have enjoyed it more. Just be cautious all the drinks are sweet. Presentation is wonderful but if you enjoy real drinks this isn’t the place. We also noticed the manager visiting the tables that had paid for the five course deal and not ours. Our server was great but disappointed overall.

We'd been to The Aviary several years ago, not long after it opened, and we had a memorable and fun experience--one of those ones that you talk about when you get together with those friends years later. So, when family was visiting town for a Chicago-themed weekend we'd given them as a Christmas present, we were really excited to return to The Aviary. I'm sad to report we had a relatively poor experience--especially on the service side--that makes me hesitant to return or recommend The Aviary to others. We arrived and were shown to a table. I sat down in a chair that was totally broken--in fact, I nearly fell out of the chair! I alerted the staff, and the chair was removed (pushed to the side of the dining room) and a new one was brought, with an apology. But it was a surprising start to the evening at a place known for its service. There were other major service failures throughout the evening: we all had the three cocktail flight, and during service of two of the cocktails, the server who brought the drinks had no idea who had ordered what. I find that enormously frustrating--these cocktails are very expensive, and you know you are paying for the experience. When a server has to say, "who had the ___?" you make the experience more like what you'd expect at an average chain restaurant. A very nervous server presented our second round of drinks. When he took one off the tray, the entire tray fell--and one of the drinks spilled all over a member of our party. It was an accident, and those happen. And the person who made the spill was apologetic. However, I would think that a spilled drink all over a patron might warrant a visit from a manager (or, dare I say, a free cocktail). However, a manager nor a complimentary drink never came. I have to say, that kind of put a damper on the evening. There were other amateurish moments, too. We really wanted to order a snack from the menu, but it was near impossible to find a server from which to place the order--they would serve our cocktails and walk away. Frankly, they all seemed very nervous and very rushed--and you felt that as a patron. The message being sent was "we have a line outside and would appreciate if it you drank faster." The most annoying thing: the "dim sum" appetizer cart. This is ridiculous for three reasons: 1. There was never enough on the cart to actually serve everyone at the table--and it feels a little silly buying a bit for one person 2. In an elegant space in which the staff is wearing suits and you'e dressed up, the cart is a gray plastic monstrosity that appears to have been purchased from Home Depot. Seriously, an industrial-type cart being pushed around an elegant bar. 3. The cart is too big. Several times throughout our experience, the poor cart driver had to say "excuse me, excuse me", and I had to push my seat into the table so she could pass. If you're going to push a cart around a restaurant all night, have it fit without your patrons having to re-arrange the chairs. By the end of the evening, while we had some decent cocktails, we all felt disappointed and, frankly, ripped off--we did not have the experience that justifies the price point. I would also observe that, since the opening of The Aviary, Chicago's craft cocktail scene has rapidly evolved. You can get really good and really creative craft cocktails at a variety of establishments without the price, poor service, or needless hype. Sad to say: thumbs down.

My husband and I decided to splurge for our anniversary and enjoy the kitchen table experience at The Aviary. I must say prior to going we had no idea of what to expect. This chic hidden gem blew us away. We were treated to seven courses of some of the most amazing cocktails and innovative bites we had ever had. The wait staff was sensational, explaining each cocktail and pairing and all the nuances that went into making it special. A must do for fun evening in Chicago. FYI, we had dinner reservations after our tasting since it was a tasting not a meal; we didn't make it 😊.

The Aviary is a great way to have drinks. We did the choice of three drinks from each section with food pairing. While the plates were small, the food was meticulously prepared and very good. The drinks are all about mixology culture; going beyond just spirits and common mixers but using unique aromatic and flavorful ingredients to create a not just a drink, but a cocktail experience. That said, the Elegant Victory Over Oil was my favorite and something I could drink no matter the occassion. The staff was very personable. They were open to talk and joke, yet still provided great service.

My love surprised me with an early Birthday dinner last night! The whole experience was amazing ! The ambiance , the staff, the food , the drinks omg! This place is a must visit !!! We have been to Alinea two years ago and there is NO place or meal like it and it's worth every penny! I knew for sure this spot would be awesome too as its owned by the same chef ! He's brilliant ! Can't wait to go back again!

I had two drinks and my bill was over $75. The drinks were not tasty. I ordered the "wake and bake" and the "creative" thing about the drink was that it arrived in a paper bag. Yawn. I am really not pleased with our experience at Aviary, and would not recommend

Great night, Fabulous cocktails, and most of all we had Fun! We tried several drinks: my favorite was the carrot cake: it could also be a dessert Smurfs, loaded to the gun walls and bunker pants. The pork rinds are a must: you can't stop eating them, and the wagyu small bites: very very good just wish they offered a larger portion. This is a cocktail bar that you should try the experience, were coming back soon!

Wow! What an experience! Some of the Kost delicious and inventive cocktails I’ve ever had! Don’t miss the “Frosty,” a dessert cocktail based on Wendy’s frosty milkshake. The inverted banana with frozen curry and banana that released even more flavor as the ice melted was amazing too. Another drink with small round “ice cubes” made with some sort of cherry juice was great too. The only reason I didn’t give this 5 stars was that for a $150 per person dinner pairing of five cocktails with food, the amount of food we were served was almost negligible — one “course” was a single round croquette. Another “course” was a small bowl of edamame topped with with vinaigrette. The only course which bordered on a sufficient amount of food was a delicious, but small, bowl of duck confit salad. The food was very tasty but we left very hungry (and certainly more than tipsy) from our early seating and we ended up having another bite to eat elsewhere later that evening. Very very inventive and tasty, but a bit overpriced for what we got.

Yes it is expensive. Yes it is confusing. Yes you need reservations. Yes you need to go! The Aviary takes cocktails to a new level and once there you may not want to go back (but you probably will because the price is steep). We tried the 3 Course Cocktail Progression and it was like art on display, with a delicious and strong kick! Some were simply beautiful and delicious. Others were experiences beyond any other bar I've ever been. It is an experience worth visiting st least once in your life just to see what can be done with alcohol.

This place takes far in advance reservations to get in but you will be amazed at the experience. The package we chose was the 3 drink menu experience. There was 4 of us and you choose a drink from each of tbe 3 groupings. The presentation and the flavors of this mixology experience is something everyone should put on their bucket list. Incredible drinks.....

This was our second trip to the Aviary and despite the unusual service that night we will return again. But it will not likely be very soon hence the reason for my review. It was raining when the first two members of our group arrived. The reservation was for a group of four at 5:30pm on a Wednesday. The arrogant door person and greeter inside could not have been less friendly to the two ladies that arrived first. I'm told that they both acted like they were doing them a favor to even let them inside the door. And then it was met with more resistance that they would seat them before the rest of the group arrived. If it was a busy Saturday I'd definitely understand. But at opening on a slow Wednesday I do not see the point. I arrived 15 minutes late and used the wrong name for the reservation. It was my understanding that we had made the reservation when it was actually under the other couples name. The doorman would not let me in the door even when I explained that my wife and the rest of the group had already been stated. I was not allowed to enter without the name on the reservation. Yes I figured it out but did I mention that it was raining? When seated the rest of the group had already discussed the menu and pressed me to make a quick decision. They explained that our server (think Alberto) was quite distant and aloof. That it had been very difficult to get his attention. He seemed to be over extended in his section but the place was empty, perhaps four tables total. I made my decision quickly and we got ready for some fun. About the only thing we could count on that night was his lectures. The joke was that he kept coming over to adjust glasses and lecture one of the ladies about not using the coaster under tall drinks. The glass might "tip over" as a result. It became a mild forum of entertainment and was the only way we could guarantee that he would slow down and actually stop by our table. He was also not very good at interacting with guests. When someone asked for suggestions he basically refused. Said something to the effect of what he liked we might not like so what did it matter what he thought. My other favorite memory was the lecture he gave after the ladies ordered the bouquet drink to share. He insisted on having to finish the whole glass each time. There was to be no topping off of a refill. The aromas and flavors "build over time" and you would absolutely "ruin the experience" if you did not follow his directions and finish the glass first. Made some sense and they respected the tip. They also heard him the first time but he literally repeated it again four times. That said, the drinks were creative and fun. The decor in the room is a bit bland. Yes, it was very expensive! But the Aviary is a unique experience that most people would enjoy trying once or twice. Tourists and locals should try it out. We would actually come back fairly often if they dropped the attitude and arrogance and hired people that actually want to serve guests instead of lecturing them.

You need reservations months in advance. The place is hidden behind a door with no name. Just someone checking reservations. We were a party of 6 and 3 tried the flight of 3-drinks. The other 3 selected single drinks off the menu. For the flights, you choose 1 from each of 3 sections. The drinks are mysterious and each round is more intense. Each cocktail was carefully explained and paced. All cocktail were spectacular to view, incredibly aromatic and delicious. You need to be able to manage that volume of alcohol. Not all in our party could. It is an interesting experience for a special occasion. Fun atmosphere. Comfortable seating. Load and alive. You can watch the kitchen well bar making drinks...really a show.

This is the second time I have been here. The first time was 1 year ago and it was fantastic. This time horrible. First our reservation that we made months ago was canceled at the last min and we were given a 10;45pm slot. But we were like that is ok, because this place is so great. We were wrong. This time there was no synchronized presentation of drinks at all. All of our food came at the same time, it was not given in courses like last time. Literally it was a bowl of popcorn that could have been boy scout popcorn. Then we had a ton of dirty glasses and food on table at same time. Some of the drinks were just standard drinks you could have gotten any where. a few were cool, but nothing wow like last time. Very disappointing for a very expensive bar.

This is truly an experience worth having. We were lucky to have this be our first stop while celebrating our 3 year anniversary (before dinner at Alinea). The service was fantastic; their attention to detail was crazy. The staff was aware of out Alinea reservations, my wife's allergies, etc. All the drinks were fantastic. We got to do the 3 drink tasting each and it was great. Even my wife who tends to not drink loved it. Only regret... not doing the 5 drink tasting.

Unfortunately underwhelming. Ambiance was 3 star at best with zero effort put into the design of the space - felt like a pop up shop or low tier wedding reception hall... and poor ventilation sent us outside to clear our eyes a few times because they were literally burning from smoke coming through into the dining room from the kitchen. Don’t waste your money. Literal smoke and mirrors. You can get a great cocktail (and much much better food) that tastes better, half the cost, without the fan fare. Trust me.

Making good cocktails is not enough. I’m a regular customer, and I’m writing this review today because I cannot understand why the staff in this particular place is so rude. I now understand why the 20% service fee is added to the tab. It’s because customers would rarely tip those people. It’s bad. Really. So bad that you feel THEY are making a favor to serve you. Besides this, be aware you won’t be able to sit outside, unless you book a multi-course menu. This is america. We are in 2020. We are in the middle of a pandemic. Welcome to Aviary! PS: The cocktails are very good, and therefore I still give it 2 stars.

We decided to celebrate a special occasion at the Aviary, having heard so much about it for so many years and having had a friend who went there several years ago who thoroughly enjoyed the experience and had a great burger there at the time (if you look online you will see they used to serve burgers). We had a total of five drinks between us and I must say that I just wasn’t very impressed. What they considered their “far out“ presentations, I had seen before more than once. In fact, I have some of their paraphernalia at home that I ordered on Amazon and it was not very expensive! I would say that the drinks are fair to very good. The food on the other hand is just good. You would expect so much more of a place like this! The “burst of truffle” experience is simply a ravioli with truffle broth inside and very little actual truffle in it. So yeah, it “bursts” in your mouth buuuut… if you consider that worth $20, welllll I don’t know… I have eaten in Michelin starred restaurants around the world as well as at small bistro‘s that are just fantastic and this just didn’t impress and the price was really high for what it was… plus, they don’t give you the opportunity to decide on the value of the service. They pre-charge you for it and well, that’s OK because of course the servers deserve to be paid, but I’d still like the opportunity to decide that I want to give them more or a little less; but no, they decide for you. You sit on these sofas and you look at other patrons across from you, and I don’t know, it’s just really kind of “meh”. There are SO many places in Chicago that are SO much more interesting in their presentation and offer so much better food. The food was not that good, truly. I know you would expect more, as did I. So basically here’s what I think: if you need to be seen at the “right” restaurant and be able to say that you went there, then by all means go spend your money at this place… If you’re interested in a real experience with truly good food and really interesting presentations, then go somewhere else... I really hope this is helpful to you because I love food and I love cocktails and I really love to enjoy them on a night out with my dear hubby!

Undoubtedly a very special experience, but honestly not one that I would repeat any time soon. It’s excessive. Being stopped outside the door to then stand in the dark foyer without greeting until an invitation to “wait here” where you finally get a glimpse of the kitchen. Don’t get me wrong it was absolutely fascinating to watch their finesse and attention to detail! The space is a small but lavishly decorated lounge with several seating vignettes that provide opportunity for privacy while you take your time enjoying these stunning cocktails and small bites. We tried 12 different cocktails, and everyone of them were excellent. The first course was light and refreshing and included infused ice cubes that promoted a beautiful evolution of each drink. The second round included some incredibly complex drinks that transformed like chemistry projects! We enjoyed the octopus croquette with this round, and the bite was equally delicious and celebrated a flavor profile with as much depth as the drinks. The final round included some very unique takes on traditional drinks such as my old fashioned which is pictured with a “butter finger bite”. A wonderful experience, but it’s not for everybody that’s for sure. I would return if they changed the menu seasonally. But I would not be compelled to return for a repeat of the same items. I should also say, plan to eat dinner before or after...the food pairing is not substantial enough to constitute a meal. The small bites are out of this world good but they are bites. Enjoy on a special occasion or to take your time with some dear friends.

This was our second time at The Aviary. We enjoy coming here as this is so different than just going for drinks and dinner. You really get to explore drinks that there is no way you can make yourself. Start at the top of the menu and work your way down. Make sure that you have no other plans for later that night. Be advised, this is not a place to go and eat. The food portions are small and limited. Very good, but do not expect to get filled up. Have a little something before. This is a place to experince diffenent drinks, meet the next couple or group seated next to you and relax. Service has always been good. I ahve read a few reviews that has said the service was "stuck up". I have not experienced this at all. Our main server, Nick, spent time with us chatting, explaining the drinks, and making sure that everything was taken care of. The other servers who would come and deliver either the drinks or food made sure we had no questions and that we enjoyed everything. I cannot wait to go back.

The drinks and the service were fantastic. However, one little thing killed the whole experience. This was actually my second visit to the Aviary. The previous time that I was to go there, I made a reservation that I was unable to use. Per their policy, you will lose your money if you are unable to use the reservation that same day. Ultimately, on this visit, I spent $300. I asked if I could get a credit for the $20 I was not able to use with my previous reservation. Of course they told me that money was lost. However, no one could give me a reasonable answer as to why that money was lost. Clearly that $20 meant more to them than having me come there repeatedly spending $300 with my friends. I don’t think I can go back since I am still pissed off about that situation. All they had to do is allow the guest to use the credit within a year. End of story. Happy customer. Whatever. I’m done with them

I made reservations for cocktails before a concert, and accidentally booked the wrong day (for the previous week), but didn't realize it until we showed up and were denied entry. The guy at the door was condescending and rude, and said he could POSSibly get us a standing table, but could not honor the deposit I made on the reservation. I was not about to lose the deposit and drop another wad inside, so we went elsewhere, where we felt very welcomed. I understand it was completely my fault on the booking error, but didn't expect to be treated so rudely. This place had been on my Chicago bucket list, but I won't go back.

Avoid this place if you hope to get some decent food to accompany the overpriced cocktails. Inattentive staff, mediocre food (at best).

Came to the Aviary for their three course drink price fix. What I encountered exceeded all of my expectations! The thoughtfulness that goes into each and every drink is part of what makes it so special. Along with this the service was superb! Definitely will be coming back here as this place is meant to be shared. Remember to book your reservation far in advance.

Crazy good cocktails and interesting presentations. No sign on the outside, just a girl with a radio. Very speakeasy ish. There is another hidden bar downstairs that we didn’t know about, but you need a reservation to go through the door, can’t remember the name. A must try while in Chicago!

Really well thought, creative, balanced cocktails, presented very elegantly. No rush ambiance. We truly enjoyed the 5 course menu. Take it slow and easy, and savor every sip. The drinks are just amazing - pace yourself.

Enjoyed the Kitchen Table Experience. 7 courses with cocktail pairings and great conversation as you watch what happens in the kitchen. Great Experience.

It's so fun to watch each cocktail come out of the Mixologist's bar tending area. Some look like science experiments. I loved the Hermosa that came out smoky from a box and had hints of chocolate and orange. My favorite was the pineapple and rum cocktail that had gelatin rum balls floating inside that burst open in your mouth.

We went for the 5 cocktail tasting and I bought a copy of the book as well. We really enjoyed our evening here, the cocktails were very interesting and innovative in their presentation as well. Our favorite was the spicy green pepper cocktail and least favorite was the cigar smoked cocktail - a little too much smoke for both of us. I would say the overall evening was a great way to celebrate a special occasion. The food pairings were the only downside. For me, there was just too much fried and heavy tasting food. I was hoping for some light and fresh bites to go along with the cocktails, and while the food pairings missed the mark for me, my husband didn't mind them as much. We did really enjoy the beautiful book we purchased and it actually made us appreciate the work that went into the cocktails even more! The recipes were awesome! We would go back again for sure - it was a fun evening!

Went as a group of 3 and had the 3-course drink menu, with some à la carte truffle popcorn and edamame. It’s quite an experience- each drink prepared carefully and with great creativity, and served with superb service (they pace it just right for you to enjoy each flight). The price is high, but worth it as the drinks are very unique and some have very generous servings.

Good food and incredible drinks. We drank 7 drinks and ate shrimp tempura. It was amazing and the service was pretty good too

The atmosphere here is very pretentious. Many restaurants nowadays are catering to the casual crowd and have a welcoming feel, this couldn't be more opposite. There are maybe 6-7 couches in the whole bar and about 3 small groups in each couch. Drinks are $25-$30+, which is crazy! And you must make reservations. I know it's all about the "experience", but frankly nothing that amazing. If I were living in Chicago, that would be my one and only visit... They try hard on the presentation, but if I were coming there to get a buzz, I'd need to spend $150, just absurd to pay that much and have a drink be served in a paper lunch bag (yup, that's one of their drink presentations...)

First I’ll mention my husband and I typically drink wine or scotch, but I made reservations after seeing the beautiful website. I thought we’d be sitting at a bar and we’d be served drink concoctions erupting with flames or dry ice. Instead we were led to a crowded room bright as day and served drinks by bored wait staff that in the end, all tasted the same to us, once stirred. Each was mass produced without the loving individual touch. And there were some really weird aftertastes. I had to prepay and they offered no refunds for cancellations. Must say, not our cup of tea

The Aviary is an upscale establishment that serves unique cocktails and bar food. We went with friends for drinks before having dinner at Next. This is the first bar I've visited where reservations are required and the place fills up as soon as the doors open at 5pm. We tried 4 different cocktails, each was a production. The service was superb. The price for the 4 cocktails, including tax and 20% automatically applied service charge, was $146. It was worth the experience.

The first time experiencing a cocktail tasting menu. It was fun, unique and delicious. The Jungle Bird cocktail, my favorite, has 2 types of rums, campari, & pineapple - which all layer out at different heights giving it multiple colors. And within this concoction are gelatinous spheres that have been infused with rum. It is served with a large bore glass straw through which the spheres travel into your mouth and explode. Wonderful!

You really have to experience The Aviary to appreciate it. The drinks are legendary and the food is 5 Star all the way. This is one place you really have to go at least once in your life. Schedule ahead, not an easy reservation to make but well worth it. Plan to spend some time here and an fair about of cash.

I’ve been to many bars in the word & none have come close to the cocktails, food & overall creativity that is Aviary. The flavors are extremely eccentric but don’t take that as a bad thing. It’s things you’d never know were in a cocktail or food that contains alcohol. This was my 2nd visit & we opted for the 5 cocktails plus food pairings. Unbeknownst to me that pick each dish & drink for you however they try their best to ensure you don’t get the same dishes or drinks upon previous visits. I still ordered my favorite drink in all the world which is the “cereal killer” & also the most delicious single bite in the world which is the “truffle explosion”. Another great aspect about aviary is although you’ll be extremely intoxicated you won’t have a hangover I pray that they tell me the secret as to how.

We had a wonderful experience at the Aviary. The ambience was fabulous and loved the fact that we could hear each other talk across the table while at a bar! The drink presentations reminded me of a magic show: Very fun and entertaining. The drinks were incredibly tasty and the small bites literally melted in our mouths. Thank you Alicia, Mateo, Andy, Hunter, Raphael, Chef Elliott for a beautiful experience!

Visiting from out of town. We attempted to come on a Friday night without a reservation (and were politely laughed at). So, lesson learned: make a reservation if you want to come here (at least on the weekend). We were able to make a reservation for Sunday (Saturday was already booked!). One thing to note is that their "reservation" is actually a prepayment. There are a few options but all of them require paying upfront and your prepayment is then applied to your final bill. Oddly, they offer a reservation time that is only about 30 minutes before final call, which means if you (like us) have that time slot, you will definitely feel rushed; I think it would be good customer service for them to state that upfront in the reservation system. This is a concept cocktail bar. They use all of the fancy tricks and the cocktails are clearly crafted with care. As such, the cocktails are expensive (however, I have been at some other Chicago bars/restaurants with overpriced cocktail prices in a similar range for just basic cocktails). We ordered Jungle Bird (which had delicious little rum boba pearls), I Yam What I Yam, and Apparently Envious. All were both pretty and tasty. We also had their famous "exploding truffle bite"; it was good but, unless you are a true truffle fan, I would say give it a pass at this price point. Was it hype-- a little, but it was also a cool experience. I would recommend for "fancy" cocktail lovers.

Underwhelming. Ambiance was 3 star at best with zero effort put into the design of the space - felt like a pop up shop or low tier wedding reception hall... and poor ventilation sent us outside to clear our eyes a few times because they were literally burning from smoke in the kitchen. Service took forever! We had to keep asking for our next course of drinks and food. Don’t waste your money. Literal smoke and mirrors. You can get a great cocktail that tastes better, half the cost, without the fan fare. Trust me.

The Aviary has become a favorite spot whenever we go to Chicago. Good ambiance. Arguably pricey, but you go here to enjoy drinks made with top shelf alcohol and unique ingredients. They do a great job explaining the drinks. I like the 3 cocktail progression pre-fixe menu particularly because you can deviate from it if you aren’t certain about that night’s selections and your prepay reservation can be applied as a credit. Plan to set aside 90 minutes to 2 hours for the three drink progression.

After a nice dinner we went to The Aviary for cocktails. Wow! What a unique menu and atmosphere. The Manhattan in a bag was tons of fun and delicious. Other drinks were also enjoyed. The snack of raw oyster was delicious. I have been wanting to go to The Aviary for a while and was very happy I did. A great way to end the evening!

The cocktails at the aviary have the craziest presentation of any place I’ve been on 6 continents. I especially enjoyed the two progressive cocktails. Service was good and efficient and we were lucky to be seated by the cage to be able to see the mixologists at work. We did the 5 course food and cocktail pairing. We had plenty of booze but did stop elsewhere for additional food after. However, a bit of room for improvement. I felt a bit rushed and at one point had three drinks on the table. They were consistently pushed out without a lot of time to enjoy and appreciate each drink. We were in and out in 90 minutes. Also, the drinks are all on the sweet and fruit side where I typically enjoy more spiritus cocktails. However, that’s the price you pay for inventiveness. Overall, I really enjoyed it but wouldn’t frequent regularly.

The 3 course prix fixe cocktail selection was great. I truly do not know how anyone could handle the 5 course cocktail menu unless they only tasted each cocktail. Highly creative cocktails each presented magnificently and creatively. A taste and visual sensation. Book well in advance

What a unique concept, we had a BLAST with all the drinks we had. We also got to try the acclaimed black truffle explosion. You gotta eat/drink here.

Ive been here a few times and its an interesting experience for once in a great while. I recommend to get 2 drinks each and no more, as the experience leaves more memorable when not doughn out to the max. Its good to bring people that are visiting, or go for a dessert drink after dinner. Service is good and attentive. Do not steal the metal straw. Trust me.

This place has some tasty drinks and they are served in some very creative and original ways. They match the presentation with the quality of the drinks. We did the tasting menu but next time we will go a la carte although the snacks in between were delicious.

We did a reservation for which we paid 25 usd per person in advance, when we arrived we had to wait 15 minutes to come in, then another 5 minutes on the hallway (prohibited to cross the invisible line); arriving at the table waited another 10 minutes to order... I wanted a fresh cocktail and there was no option on the menu so I didn’t like what I got... we asked to the waiter to take a picture and he didn’t wanted but 20% of tip service is charged automatically... at the end, we were waiting inside for the Uber and they rushed us with out any explanation, after they told us the don’t have the license to sell alcohol after 2 am. In resume bad service, we didn’t like 50% of the drinks and expensive.

Thats about it really, they have some truly amazing cocktails and clearly some amazing talent behind the bar and in the kitchen. I just wish the service staff understood their supporting role in that rather than thinking they are special because they got some job waiting there.. I'd still go back, but hope they take note

I feel this bar is like the emperors new clothes in that everyone recommends it but it was not great ! There was a good selection of cocktails and they make a big thing of being able to see people make a big deal of making them but overall the atmosphere was lacking and the staff were not at all friendly. There were a lot of empty seats which did not help. I personally would not be keen to visit again.

We loved this bar (and we really liked Alinea). We were a little rushed because we didn't realize how un-bar-like the experience would be. We had dinner reservations after. I think next time we'll go here for after-dinner cocktails.

Very attentive and knowledgeable servers. Cozy table in the corner of the kitchen. We started with the amuse cocktail - warm, with mandarin, whiskey, rum and more. Next, the Micahlada (served in a bird-shaped glass with mole on 1 wing and elotes on the other). Very tasty. Crispy Pork Skin and polenta were served with this. The polenta was very nice. Next we had the Jesus Can't Hit a Curveball cocktail (my favorite and the only 1 I finished) with Alaskan King Crab - small portion but very tasty - 1 of my 2 favorite food courses. Return of the Mac cocktail (orange, thyme, apple brandy, etc) served with an Octopus Croquette (very creamy and good). Bananas in Pyjamas cocktail was next (ginger, banana brandy and more), which I quite liked, served with Short Rib Tortellini (my other favorite food course - so good). Then the Branding Iron (brandy drink with spices) with duck cassoulet (not a fan). Brown Sugar Ice Cream (good) and ice cream sandwiches (not for me) were served with Easy on the Ice.

everything on the menu is innovative, different and fun run by Alinea group, so expect the unexpected playing with food is always fun some drinks were a failure (beets...) some were amazing (smurf...) expensive, staff was ok, but noticed the beet drink was gross and substituted another free of charge

The best the aviary had to offer: a hot dog and a chicken stick. Sticky sweet drinks. Mostly disgusting. At $175 per person, i expect some complex and refined flavors, not a corndog and a drink made of corn liquor. The starter is tapioca flatbread covered in cheese. Served without a plate or utensils. Unless you have an excellent dry cleaner, better to skip. One server for a table of 8. Have to request a glass of ice with water, which you may or may not receive. A lot of effort put into expensive glassware, which makes a drink look intriguing and sophisticated. But the subtly of a well made drink is lost in the process. And if you are trying to host a special evening for 8, expect maybe half the drinks to come in the signature preparation, and half to just show up in the designated cup for that drink. Skimpy food portions. No luxury or high-end ingredients. The whole thing is overrated, unless you are 6 years old or never leave the house. I think the aviary is probably done. I won’t be back.

From the moment you arrive, it is obvious that this is no ordinary bar or restaurant. You give your name at the door, they radio in and someone comes to get you. We did the seven course tasting menu in the kitchen and recommend it highly and without hesitation. For what we got, the cost was incredibly reasonable. The service was impeccable (fun, informative and without pretension) and the food and drink pairings were excellent. The cocktails especially were delicious, fully living up to the hype and exceeding what were very high expectations in the first place. While there was an element of theatricality to the presentation, it was with purpose and not just for show. We would go again, but this might just be a once in a lifetime.

My boyfriend has been talking about going to The Aviary for years and we finally made a reservation for our recent Chicago trip. The setting is beautiful and the presentation on the drinks is everything. This isn't somewhere we would visit often due to the price tag but it was a fun one-time experience.T

Booked ourselves a Kitchen Table - 7 course of really good cocktail pairings. Its really worth to try! Their pork crackling was to die for! Definitely one of the best night in Chicago for us. (Photos are not in order)

Creative innovative cocktail presentations with excellently balanced out flavours. Service was great. Yes, it’s on the pricey side but any place in Chicago or NY with that cachet will put you back a few. I recommend.

This place is awesome. I wish I could give it 10 stars. This isn't a place to just grab a drink; this is a presentation or theatrical performance. This is a place to truly enjoy an experience and make a memory with someone. The staff is warm and invite you in. They did an amazing job of recommending where to start. We had several drinks during our visit and each one had something special to offer. My favorite was their take on an old fashion. The seating is intimate as you will most likely be sitting side by side on large half circle couches with small circular tables. While these tables face each other, there is plenty of room between you. At first it felt slightly awkward but in the end this is the best way to situate the tables. You have the opportunity to see what everyone else ordered and their presentation. The people across from us where quick to ask what we ordered and then opened up a conversation...the table next to us then joined in too. They then ordered their next drink and ordered the same thing so they could try it too. I highly recommend making a recommendation as there is no standing room. Each person must be seated. This place is a must visit.

This place came highly recommended and exceeded expectations!! It was a full sensory experience. Just make sure you make a reservation in advance.

Unique food and cocktails. Like mad scientist Dr. Frankenstein stuff. We're still talking about my Manhattan. It's a "must get" drink experience. The pork rinds and tempura shrimp were excellent.

Best and most creative drinks you will ever have. Period. You will want to try everything (and probably should).

This was a magical drink adventure. I recommend doing at least once in your life. We did the three drink pre-fix. The first drink I ordered (Some take on a margarita with cinnamon and strawberry) was absolutely delicious. My fiance’s second drink came out in what looked like an over-sized perfume bottle. My last drink was in a paper bag. My fiance’s last drink required some participation on his end. You never know what you are going to get. I will admit, I left pretty sloshed so it might be good to eat beforehand or order food while there (even though it is on the expensive side).

You want a Budweiser, don't go here. they have spent hours developing drinks and presentation. You pay for this. Very Enjoyable!

We had drinks with standing table, which could see how bartenders made cocktails. So fun night we had with girls. Strongly recommended.

Getting in is the most annoying part. We had to check the calendar and book much further in advance than I would ever do usually. Making the reservation - while simple - required a deposit and cancellation consequences that took a bit away from the experience before we arrived. Once we were in though, things turned around. Service was impeccable. Our drinks were fun and enlivened the senses. We put our faces in plastic bags to get a whiff of certain aromas then broke ice cubes full of alcohol with a slingshot. IT was like being a kid playing with your food again and was a really enjoyable experience. The food is excellent though indulgent as well. You were annoying to get into, Aviary, but I'll be back.

It was hard not to laugh at the snooty service and the gimmicky drinks at the Aviary. My favorite was when one of my colleagues asked to order a drink "off the menu" - just a dang G&T and was told by the waiter that that wasn't available. "They're not bartenders, they're drink chefs". Har har. The drinks were absurdly expensive and some were just silly - my favorite was the rum drink that arrived inside a ship in a bottle. Maybe it gave it a dusty flavor? Or the one that came inside a sealed plastic bag with some aroma sealed inside- that was a bit like popping those plastic box fillers you get when you order something from Amazon. There were one or two that were clever - or could have been if not presented the way they were. A spherical shell of ice containing some liquor. A pretty cool way to deliver it, until the waiter brought a rubber band contraption to "perfectly" crack the shell open with just the right amount of pressure. "Just pull it back 3", sir. No more, no less. Well done!" Har har. What a hoot.

If you think putting a very average cocktail in a brown paper bag or blowing into a cocktail to mix it is creative, this is the place for you! The only creativity is the descriptions delivered by non-motivated staff. And don't get me started on prices! Please don't get carried away by the great reviews below...this is a very average room with a small, indistinct and not very special cocktail list and an even smaller selection of food. At best, you could describe this as quirky but certainly not good or above. Just don't get it. Try SkyBar, London House, Smyth, etc instead!

This place is a once in a life time, must experiment 'bucket list" treat that everyone should do if you appreciate exceptionally concocted drink specials. We shared each other's drinks and marveled at the flavors coming from the menu items.

We reserved a party of four and each tried four cocktails. We were able to order all of the cocktails with a unique experience. Although fun we were disappointed that there weren't more complex presentations than what we were able to find on the menu. We tried four snack options that were delicious. We enjoyed our time here but it's designed for those who are entertaining others such as business clients and has a touristy feel. It's a once and a while experience since they don't really accept walk ins and it's very small inside.

Seriously good drinks! You also HAVE to get a truffle ravioli! I am just in love with the Alinea group and all their restaurants/bars. You definitely should book in advance. I recommend the al Carte option when booking so that you have more freedom selecting your drinks. Though I have done the 3 and 5 course options and loved them as well!

The Aviary has long been the Mecca for cocktail connoisseurs. I've been twice before, even visiting The Office. However, the last time was severely disappointing. To put it bluntly, every drink I had that night was obnoxiously one dimensional and sugary sweet. The drinks lacked the complexity I had in previous visits, and the menu no longer teased and intrigued. No longer were you taken for a journey with every sip, but instead, you are unceremoniously dumped off in Candyland. Maybe it's not the Aviary that has changed, but may be, other notable places have exceeded it.

We had heard mixed reviews so we weren't sure what to expect. We didn't have reservations and stood outside about 1/2 hour before they opened and they let us in and we got one of two tables that weren't reserved. The attention to detail from the servers, all of them, is amazing. They knew we had reservations at the restaurant next door and paced our drinks in order to get us there on time - reminding us that we had ten minutes, etc. The drinks were crazy original - and amazing. We enjoyed them all. It was over the top, pretentious in all the right ways and a real gem for foodies. We loved our experience and although it is super pricey - we would do it again as the drink menu changes with the seasons. My favorite was the cereal killer that came in a bag that they popped and the aroma was the first introduction to the drink. A memorable evening that you will tell your friends about. They knew we were celebrating my birthday and ended our service with a gelato cone with a candle - very nice touch.

Despite telling us that if you arrive at 5PM, you can get a table, we arrived at 5:03 to have an unsympathetic door woman inform us that if we didn't have a rez, we'd have to wait 20 minutes to get the opportunity to stand inside somewhere. Since it opened at 5, and we and one other couple were the only ones at the door, they couldn't have filled the place already. So, it seemed a little snobby for our tastes. We'd never have taken the 20 minute Lyft ride if they'd told us how it would actually work. Only good thing was we got a reluctant suggestion to try Swift and Sons down the street - a friendly and welcoming place.

The service was impeccable. Everyone on their staff was incredibly knowledgable, genuine, and talented. They went above and beyond to make our night. And last but not least, some of the best cocktails I've ever had. My boyfriend, who has been to 30 of the top 50 bars, agrees. There isn't a cocktail experience like it.

We have a lot of expectations unfortunately the service provide was very poor the reservation was at 10 pm the seat us at 11:30 pm some tables refuse to finish the dinner because the lack of service, the cocktail are delicious the food is just ok, I think the are overwhelming with so many ppl they can handle for the price they charge in advance is not good we finish 5 course dinner almost 2 am

Very mod cocktails. The glasses are designed to highlight the drink. If you are into cocktails don't miss this.

We visited the Aviary based on our enjoyment during our last visit a few years ago. They never disappoint. The atmosphere is ambient and intimate. The beverages are beyond your imagination! We partook of 4 cocktails and 1 food item. I got 99 Palomas, Passion of the Ice, Loaded to the Gunwalls, and the Branding Iron

I decided to go to The Aviary due to its fairly better reservation chances compared to its bigger Sister :). You can definitely taste the fact that it is a sister restaurant to Alinea. Interior is pretty cool, a mysterious entrance leads to a dark but almost a laboratory lounge kind of a design. Food represents an experimental cuisine. Definitely try the truffle explosion. You wont regret it!

This was a great way to spend a few hours. The drinks were beyond imaginative and delicious and the service was impeccable. We had the three drink each option and each drink (and i tried eight) was superb. Don't worry i walked back to the hotel. Highly recommend.

Brings the “foodie” culture beyond reality. The entire process takes what Charlie Trotter started in Chicago 20 years ago into the alcoholic beverage world. Each cocktail is composed of ingredients which have been created or modified by the “tenders” into a complex melange of components which are then presented in a unique way. The menu details the composition and presentation along with the the server. While all of the above is fascinating and fun the actual taste of the finished products doesn’t always live up to all of the above. I’m not saying it’s not very good just that the taste doesn’t live up to everything else.

Spent a wonderful night with my wife at the Aviary with front row standing table next to the mixing table. Very fun to watch them make the drinks. Plenty of "what's that drink?" to our server. Excellent drinks, we tried 6 different ones and were not disappointed by any of them! FYI the tip is already included in your bill, so more of a heads up. We also had the shrimp tempura and it was fabulous! I highly, highly recommend this upscale bar!

This is a tough review to write and the score is a 3.5. The Aviary is about the experience, not the drink quality, per se. It’s about the presentation, the smells, the visual appeal, the timing, and the uniqueness - in those regards it is excellent and a once in a lifetime experience. What’s disappointing is the drink quality and cost. The five of us each had a 3 drink progression and we had one ala carte extra. Overall, we ordered 10 unique drinks. Three were superb (Wassuh bae, Smoked papaya, and Hermosa), but three were bad and had no flavor. The rest were mediocre at best, which was sad because a great presentation means little if the final product isn’t good. The truffle popcorn was meh but the focaccia were excellent. Given the $700 price tag and pretentiousness of everyone we encountered (except our designated server, who was very helpful and we really adored him), it overall was disappointing. The prices are outrageous for what you get. We also had to pay $500 over a month in advance to hold the table and because the 20% service charge does not go the server, we gave him a cash tip. Ultimately this is a very overpriced but cool, one time experience.

We were a group of six and had a reservation made well in advance. My wife and I are big fans of the "small plate" type places so we knew what to expect. The space itself is not very impressive, it's fine, just kind of plain. Service was very good with many different servers to interact with. I think you probably get out of it what you put into it. Engage with them and they will reciprocate. Some of the food was very good, some just ok. I think we did the five course. Seemed like more but we were not served in the kitchen so it must have not been the seven course. We've been to many "chef menu" type places all over the country and I'd give the food here a very average grade. But, the combination of the cocktails makes this place unique and a whole lot of fun with the right group. Again, I think you get out of it what you put into it. Go to have a good time and you will. Go expecting some one-in-a-lifetime food experience and you may be disappointed. I don't feel the need to go back but would recommend it. I also don't feel that it was a bad value for the experience. We did opt for sparkling water which was poured very freely throughout our meal. We expected this is where there were going to stick it to us given we had pre-paid for the reservation. At the end of the evening, we were surprised when the main waiter told us was were all set and free to go whenever we wanted. Pleasant surprise...

We recently dined at The Aviary, and it was quite the adventure! Nestled in a stylish setting, the atmosphere is both lively and intimate, perfect for couples. The cocktails were a highlight—each one a work of art! While the food was tasty, some dishes felt a bit overhyped. We enjoyed our evening, but we were hoping for a bit more from the menu. Overall, it’s a fun place to visit, especially if you’re looking for something different. Worth checking out!

I am not sure the experience was exactly what I was expecting. The venue is a bit underwhelming; the ambience is a little strange, we were seated in the middle section where you are effectively on a side-by-side sofa facing 4 or 6 other groups and it is a bit of a strange set up. There is virtually no interior styling - you could be in the business lounge of any major airline. The drinks menu was presented in a fairly robotic, scripted manner. The drinks are expensive and vary in their flamboyance and creativity - the 4 drinks we had between us were, even considering the venue is supposedly a top destination for cocktails in the Northern Hemisphere, expensive. They were moderately flamboyant (admittedly some of the drinks served to others nearby had more of the sensory theatre to them) perhaps we choose poorly. The drinks were pleasant, innovative and had some interesting flavours and were well crafted, but I missed that 'extra' element that would have made me think this is a world class cutting-edge mixology venue. I am not sure it it was the ambiance or the drinks or a combination of the two that was a bit lacking. The side-order food selection is relatively limited (virtually nil if you are veggie) and little more than a canapé in size - therefore very expensive. Overall, experience average, and not sure I would make a huge effort to go back.

They have a list of some of the wildest cocktails you'll ever find. We booked ahead of time and chose to do the 5-course cocktail tasting menu with paired food. We had a lot of fun with the cocktails, some of them can be a bit of a show. The food was delicious, and unique, not something you taste every day. The only issue is the food is literally bite sized and with the amount of cocktails they serve it was not enough. My husband and I are not big people, but we left hungry and definitely feeling the liquor. We knew 3 "courses" in we were going to be going out for more food afterwards. With how much it cost, that was a little disappointing. I would go and try a couple cocktails, and maybe order a few bites, but not plan on it being a meal.

Grabbed a couple drinks and small plates here before our reservation at Next. Fantastic cocktails and small plates - very imaginative and more importantly, they actually work. Old fashioned, sours, and others were very good. Would come back here on a regular basis vs Next.

Just try and get in and if you get in, consider yourselves lucky and just sit back and let the amazing staff do the rest. Go for the tasting menu; i wish we would have picked the 5 course since I only picked the 3. Once it was over, like a wild, Disney ride mixed with an Uber-sensory taste experience, I wanted more. Can't wait for their NYC opening at the Mandarin Oriental. Amazing in so many ways.

Got the I’m Blue Myself. Went there right at opening time and was able to get a high top table without reservations. But I would recommend reservations if you are eating or would prefer a booth.

Paul Sauter is fantastic! In the Kitchen Experience, from the first bite to the final pour, our evening at The Aviary was nothing short of magical—but it was your generosity and warmth that truly made Jade’s 64th birthday unforgettable. The kitchen tour, the secret world of The Office, and those exquisite after-dinner drinks felt like a VIP adventure woven with wonder. We came for the culinary artistry, but we left with memories that will forever be in our top five dining experiences. Thank you for making our celebration so extraordinary—your hospitality is as masterful as your cocktails! Cheers,

This is a very posh bar, that offers out of the ordinary drinks and cocktails. The mixes are very elaborate and of course very unusual and quite tasty. The servers are very enthusiastic and knowledgeable and service is great. The a la carte drinks are possible but to ensure a reservation, i believe that it is easier to reserve with the 3 drinks proposal. This is not for the faint hearted, as 3 drinks will set you back over the driving limit (Uber is quite present in this sector) and set you back on your Master Card as well. But quite worth it if you are willing to impress your date. Quite the place to do so. Cheers!

We had the 5 course cocktails and tasting menu. The food and drinks were superb. Given the high price and exquisite experience, the service was rushed. Not enough time to savor the cocktails and food before the next round arrived. We had 7:30 pm reservations and by 9:30 pm, we were abruptly asked to leave because they “needed the table.” With a mandated tip, we felt this was quite rude. Having 5 full cocktails served in under 2 hours is a lot. Really didn’t appreciate being asked to leave when some of us still had portions of 3 cocktails to finish. Sort of tainted our whole experience.

Some of the best cocktails in the world are served in this vibrant, excentric molecular mixology lounge. Experience was the key to the awesome service, drinks and food. A combination of flavors served with twist. Awesome experience in an upscale way. The truffle popcorn as well as the pigskin really sinked in with all the exhuberant drinks ordered. Get ready to dig in your wallet but in a nice kind of way if you went with nice company. Will be back definitely. Superb! Left the menu for your convenience so thumbs up!

We were able to dine at the Chef's table and were treated to an amazing array of spectacular cocktails and delicious small plates. Every cocktail and dish was perfection, down to the most minute detail. The staff was very friendly and fun, which made the evening even better. The Aviary is a unique and memorable experience! Well worth the time and expense. I can't wait to go back the next time I am in Chicago!

Did the tasting menu with snacks for my husband’s birthday. We had a fantastic time, presentation was over the top and the taste did not disappoint. Vibe was laid back and chill which I was pleasantly surprised by. Staff was friendly and attentive.

On recommendation from one of the staff at The Drake, we made a reservation at The Aviary. A short taxi ride later, my wife and I found ourselves in this chic speakeasy. When you reserve you can either go with cocktails or a food menu. Each cocktail was as amazing as its name, like 'charred-corn soda' or 'sweet-potato margarita'. We went with the 3-Course Cocktail Progression, so unfortunately, we can’t attest to the quality of the 5-star food, but if the drinks were any indication, I'm sure the food was lovely. The atmosphere was somber with a touch of mystery, but the staff was very friendly. We will definitely be making another reservation the next time we're in town.

A unique, but relaxing ambiance. The mixed drinks are tasty and worth savoring to the last drop. A place worth visiting again.

Lots of buzz to this restaurant/bar... for special occasions, it is fun place with really interesting cocktails. We ordered the 3 cocktail tasting - the drinks were a bit wild and there was a lot of table sharing. You are paying for the experience not the drink. It is a place where more people = more fun.

Yes it's pricey but the experience is super cool and the drinks are amazing! My husband and I visit every time we are in town.

We were so disappointed. We purchased the 5 cocktails and 5 plates packages. None of the cocktails were good and the food was plain salty. The decor was just like hotel lobby. It was so overpriced. I would not want to try any of the Alinea group anymore.

I was expecting this place to be a little bit more dark & romantic. But alas, the experience still did not disappoint! Drinks were well made with unique and fresh flavors. We felt prices were very fair. There is a deal offered to get 3 courses of drinks, but it really doesn’t save you much money. If you’re feeling like splurging, the black truffle explosion is worth the try! (Everyone needs their own, splitting wont work here) Would definitely go again.

What an amazing experience! Not only is the atmosphere chic and elegant, the presentation of the drinks was over the top. Great place to have an intimate date or a business meeting.

I had 3 friends here from England and we had all been looking forward to this experience for a while. I booked the 3 cocktail flights for all of us. I had a coupon for 2. Unfortunately when I arrived I realized I had left the coupon at home. I explained the situation to the server and he said without the coupon they couldn't do anything. So I was thinking I would have to go home and get it. I asked if I paid in full would I be able to come back and get a refund. No! Then I went to speak to the manager. He was very nice but he wouldn't budge either. So there we are now potentially faced with a $350 bill when I had already got $175 credit. I can afford it but that's not the point. There was no discussion it was a straight no!! The main issue after that was the servers attitude. Not helpful at all. He made us feel so belittled, very uncomfortable, although we were his painful customers! After much discussion we did decided to stay as the reviews said this place was amazing. We had to try it right? Only one of us went for the 3 flight in the end. The others said they would order as they went along. Then we all decided on the same cocktail (there were some weird choices). The server then said NO!! We couldn't order the same!!! Umm excuse me. We can have whatever we choose. In the end he agreed but seriously hadn't we had enough hassle. At this point we were discussing how this experience was not going well. The manager must have heard us as he came over and said we could now offset the coupon against the drinks. He was very nice about it. I wish they had agreed this at the start. Anyway we carried on but by this point I couldn't really wait to get out of there. Not the relaxing evening I had planned. Food wise we ordered the pork scratching which looked impressive. Other food was offered which I honestly couldn't believe. 2 tiny pieces of bacon on a wire string for $6!! The ambiance was dark and not that exciting. All in all very disappointed in the whole experience. I go out 2 - 3 times a week in Chicago. I entertain guests and recommend places. I review cocktails. None of this you knew of course. If you had taken the time to ask about why we were there. I take going out seriously. This place is off my list. It remains to be seen if I get my refund. If not I will update this post.

If you want a great experience at an upscale trendy bar with outstanding and very unique drinks then do yourself a favor a make a reservation here. We visited after enjoying dinner for a special occasion and had a great time here until late into the morning. The service was perfect and the drinks were out of this world. If you live in the Chicago area you owe it to yourself to give the Aviary a try!

$$$$, really? Try $$$$$$$$&&&&&&$$$$$$$$. I’m not one of the Kennedy’s, but I’m not one of the Clampett’s either. Drinks overpriced does not even scratch the surface. They actually had people in there paying 3x’s what they should for a drink. I was scared a stripper had to be coming out at any point for those inflated prices. There is classy, and there is ridiculous. Stay classy, West Loop!

Come here for unique cocktails and a sexy ambiance. I was in awe of the design of the cocktails. Both visually appealing and flavorful. My boyfriend and I did the 3 drink tasting for a hefty price. Things I enjoyed: 1) The drink “passion of the ice” comes to your table in a Bunsen burner looking device (yup, like science class). The server heats up the drink, a plume of smoke fills the top, gets infused with fruit and comes back down & voila, your drink is ready. Delicious! The food was good but not the main attraction here. 2) Other drinks were served in treasure chests filled with smoke to quite literally...smoke your drink. 3) Another drink I ordered had tapioca type balls filled with rum. It came up through the straw and burst as I bit into them releasing rum and deliciousness. This was my personal favorite. Note: This place is NOT for someone on a budget. But if you had to splurge on one night in chi-town, this would be the spot to do it.

We were so fortunate to be able to make a reservation. A party of 8 seniors, we were definitely the oldest people in the Aviary. Had to sit at separate tables, but it didn’t matter. We had a wonderful time! The food was good, the drinks were better, everything was so unique, but most of all the service was wonderful! Great staff of young, attentive, and informative people… really made it a special occasion. We had no idea what we were eating or drinking, but it didn’t matter. The servers explained everything I’m so glad it was prix fixe, so we didn’t have to make any decisions. A memorable time for sure. Everything was great! Not cheap, but a wonderful experience. If you haven’t been here before, plan far ahead, but don’t miss this place.

Early December we went to the Aviary with 3 friends to have some nice cocktails and some food (as it was dinner time). We had the flight of cocktails, which consisted of three cocktails that you could choose from te middle page of the menu. We also wanted something to eat because it’s better not to live on booze alone, so we chose the food pairing, which costs 25 USD per person(!). Our hopes were high, but soon crashed as we learned that the food pairing consisted of just some veggie chips, truffle popcorn, some nice croquettes with manchego dip and a little cup of some quinoa kind of thing ánd you get everything with the first cocktail (which meant everything was eaten when the second cocktail came, so not really pairing...). Not worth your 25 bucks. With this much of alcohol I want something more substantial (which wasn’t on the menu). The cocktails were nice, not short on alcohol and certainly not what you can get in any kind of bar, really special. You get a kind of “amuse” cocktail from the house and plenty of water, sparkling or still, with the cocktails. The staff was nice, 3 waiters came really quick after we had sat down and said we hadn’t chosen yet, when we finally made our choices we had to wait fairly long before the next one came to take our orders. All in all it was a nice evening, but it’s better to eat somewhere else beforehand or to have just one cocktail (as they are quite strong).

We had the kitchen experience at the Aviary for 3. It was so interesting to watch them make extravagant cocktails with a multitude of presentations. We had an alcoholic and nonalcoholic with each course. We preferred the nonalcoholic ones. The food was very minimal. The white truffle upgrade was fabulous.

We've been meaning to visit The Aviary for some time. Finally picked a date and set forth... The West Loop of Chicago has come a long way in the last 5-10 years. The area has a great vibe and the Aviary fits well into this scene. Exterior is very industrial, but inside is modern and contemporary. This was a "drinks only" visit as we had dinner reservations elsewhere. Staff was great and took time to explain everything. However, The Aviary's downfall is just because my drink looks great (or smokes or bubbles or whatever) doesn't give it a pass on taste. Fancy ingredients are no excuse for poor taste. I know price is relative, but at these rates I expected more. I needed to be wow'ed and wasn't.

My Wife and I had arrived the Fulton Market a bit early for our Next reservation so we decided to stop at the Aviary. We did not have reservations but were able to get seats with the help of reservations at Next. We had a standing table where we could see the creativity happening at the bar. I do not remember the name's of either cocktail we ordered but both were delicious. My drink was served in a bottle that steeped the drink and the delicious flavors changed with each pour into the small cocktail glass. I believe I was able to get 5 or 6 small drinks. It was definitely a beautiful presentation. My Wife''s drink was delicious but was the most simple presentation if all the drinks we seen that evening which disappointed her. My one complaint was the time between placing the order and receiving the drinks was slow. I would have ordered a second drink but we ran out of time. Our service was very professional and helpful and the atmosphere posh. Drinks are expensive but the value was there with my drink but not so much on my Wife's drink. All in all this was a very nice experience.

Part of the Alinea group, this street inconspicuous (no sign out front ) cocktail place is known for its elaborate presentations that do not disappoint. Study photos here and on Yelp do you know what to order. Cocktails are about $25-$30 each and appetizers are also pricey. All in all worth the experience, once.

We did a Preset / Preorder of 3 cocktails each, enjoyed the selection and service. The office is a nice place to enjoy some rare whiskey offerings.

I stopped at the Aviary for a drink after Alinea. I had a hard time deciding what to get so the server "surprised" me... and I did NOT like the drink he brought me. He insisted on taking it back and getting me something else. I saw someone with the "bunker pants" drink and ordered that. It was amazing! The flavors deepened and changed as it steeped. My drink started off a light color and ended a ruby red. My husband got the Old Fashioned that was completely enclosed in an ice ball - requiring a slingshot to crack open. It was a very cool presentation and he said the best Old Fashioned he had ever had. The drinks are very expensive - $20+ each but they are unique and well thought out.. definitely worth a stop if you can. Make reservations! There was over a 2 hour wait for walk ins when we arrived.

Definitely worth a visit as their cocktails are an experience to be had, however I still found it expensive and a little pretentious...

The 3 cocktail progression is always a great choice. We had a late evening reservation after dinner at Next. A great way to complete the evening. Smoky sweet and spicy cocktails. We enjoyed sharing 6 different ones. And don't forget to include the amazing truffle explosion.

Had dinner for the first time at Aviary on Saturday night with my wife for our anniversary and had some feedback. When we first walked in they took our name and asked us to wait on a wall, somewhat of a lineup. I hung up my coat and noticed the kitchen and drink mix area. Obviously you have that set up there so people can see the coolness that you are creating behind the metal fence. I could have watched all night, fascinating. I wish we could have hung out in that area longer, but they asked us to stay by the door which let in a freezing cold wind every time someone opened it. We get seated, and our waitress was wonderful, Jasmine made our overall experience enjoyable. More feedback however. Music was too loud, seems to be a theme. There were many different servers/chefs/bartenders bringing our drinks and food to our table, which was cool that we get different people to represent and explain what was being created, however, two people dropped off a drink and food with out explaining anything about what we were going to consume. That was disappointing. It made the creation that you guys made way less cool, not knowing anything about it. Food and drink were absolutely amazing. Your creations are well worth it, however I’ll call it overall service was sub par.

Was lucky enough to secure the kitchen table 7-course experience! What an awesome adventure. The kitchen staff were clearly and genuinely enjoying themselves. I say genuinely because clearly they weren’t vying for my attention but rather, and more importantly, they were enjoying each other’s company and making their wonderful cocktail and food creations. The cocktails were the highlight. All beautifully and considerately crafted. Don’t get me wrong, the food was great too. Starting with the ridiculously, but wonderfully oversized salt and vinegar chicharones through to the yummy dessert. The service was friendly, attentive and always nearby. Can’t wait to come back!

Seriously this is one of the top bars in the world? If that’s the case, they really need to improve service. Visiting from Toronto and had a reservation at 12:15am. Arrived early and table wasn’t available so we came back and was seated around 12:30am. The female server with curly hair was not attentive nor welcoming. Ordered 3 drinks, asked to keep the menu for second round and she just looked to the table without saying a word that she left one on the side. Needed to wave her several times for ordering, questions and the bill. No smile, simply like a robot. I work in service industry and this was my worst experience ever along with a mandatory 20% tips. The drinks were average, the table beside us got a fancy presentation and us not even a proper explanation by my waitress. Really really disappointed and even my friends coming to Chicago for the first time felt angry about the experience. $137 usd for 3 drinks and 2 mini size desserts 😡🤯😱

Great place to visit with friends for experiencing amazing looking and tasting drinks with unmatched stories to enjoy!

Came here with a project teammate who frequents here and I was so not impressed. Ok. I lied, I was impressed by the Papi flight offering. 6 different Papi's from different years was impressive. Other than that, the drinks were colorful but I would have preferred a much simpler drink. We ordered food as well, but those who ate it were not impressed. We then headed down to the down stair level, with different drinks and food. The food was great, the bottle collection was nice, but the drinks were just ok.

7 course drinks served at the only two-seat table in the kitchen? Check! One of the most visually interesting and meticulously crafted and curated drinking experiences I've ever had? Check! It was like drinking 7 science experiments in one sitting. The combination of ingredients in combination with the selected edible items were fascinating! This place could easily get a Michelin star if it weren't for the fact they are considered a bar and not a restaurant! Part of the Alinea Group, The Aviary is a really Avant-garde experience. Never have I been to a place that crafts cocktails with such precision. The service from the moment the door man came out to the servers buzzing around the table was phenomenal. A well lubricated machine, with synchronized call and response from order to kitchen. Black clothes make drinks, white clothes make food...WOW! it was so organized and clean and unique and extravagant and exclusive and, and, and.....I can't run out of positive things to say about the 7 course service. It was almost impossible to reserve and took two months in advance but I was able to get it. They have a little over 20 drinks on their menu so a return trip is almost a must. The kitchen is enclosed in a wire mesh bird cage type fencing so folks can see in but we were fortunate enough to sit in! I'll never forget this experience. It was wonderful! My only regret: I forgot to take the list of the items I consumed that evening. If I can reach out and get it I will update my review. Yes-they even type it all out for you to walk away with. How amazing is that? Not so humbly submitted, Michael C.

We went there as a group and had a spectacular time imbibing on all the magnificent drinks created by the staff. Fun times

As amateur mixologists who enjoy engaging with bartenders to learn more about cocktails and spirits, we were really excited about going to The Aviary. We've read the cocktail book and were looking forward to hearing more hints about how to make some of the drinks. Ideally, we were hoping to order some of the more interesting ones (like Science A.F.). We were disappointed. The bartenders/mixologists were behind a cage and there was no ability to interact with them. You couldn't even _see_ them unless you happened to be at one of the few two-tops near the door (or the lucky table inside the caged area). We'd prepaid for the 3 prix fixe so we had limited options but we found something of interest for each course. However, the entire experience was incredibly rushed. The cocktails were very large and we'd only gotten through half of the first before the second came out.. and then seriously behind by the time the third one came out (clearly the intent is not to actually enjoy sipping the cocktails but to chug them back). The only highlight was that we got to try the truffle explosion: it was great to learn that how we make it at home is pretty on point! It was expensive and it wasn't worth it-- but this was what we've come to expect after being at Next and Alinea. These places photograph well and make for interesting books but aren't worth actually visiting. Not a fan of any of them: there are far better places in Chicago where you can have a more intimate, leisurely experience for a fraction of the price.

Scientifically intriguing cocktails, fun presentation, clever all around beginning with the menu format. The dining room looks sexy, but as we were a party of 2, we had a high-top table right by the cage, looking into the lab/kitchen. We had the 3-cocktail flight and ordered the truffle bite (worth it). The food menu looks great, but you may want to eat something substantial in advance as it doesn't offer items that would help soak-up the many types of alcohol you will enjoy (we also had a dinner reservation we were excited about after).

My husband and I enjoyed an evening at the Aviary and although it is very expensive you will not have a dining experience like this anywhere else.

Me and my wife split the cocktail tasting menu and it was definitely a must-do experience. The drinks are creative, complex and exotic. As for taste 2 of the 3 were great! The other was ok! Service was also great. It is pricey but these are specially handcrafted cocktails! I do recommend to try the experience however. The one drink where you snap a band and break your own ice was maybe not as intended as I splashed alcohol all over the woman sitting beside me. Good thing she was cool about but I can see how that can go wrong!

We love The Aviary. It is an experience that everyone should be able to have at least one time. The hand crafted cocktails are like nothing else on this planet. The food is pretty wild and delicious. We even joined in the fund raising for the cocktail book they had printed. Each time we visit Chicago this is a must stop location. The staff is the best. I cannot say enough great thing about this business. You must go to understand.........so GO!

We had the 5 drink tasting. The drinks were amazing. The food portions were unfortunately very very small. The presentation of the drinks was fun and interesting. The staff could not have been nicer. I can't wait to go back again on my next trip to chicago.

Came here based on the recommendation of a local. Definitely make reservations ahead of Tim as this place gets packed. We opted for the 3-course drinks option and we got some snacks a la carte. Many people come here just for drinks and get dinner elsewhere. The drinks are definitely fun and quirky as they usually have some interesting twist to them. I would definitely recommend coming here if you’ve never been. Food is good, but just small bites. Keep in mind, most drinks have multiple alcohols in it, so not a great idea to try too many cocktails, as you’ll be feeling it...

My husband and I were SO excited to be able to secure reservations to The Aviary on a recent visit to Chicago. Having dined at Alinea the night before, we were presented with a token to use at The Aviary (in a little vending machine) that resulted in getting a "starter" drink on the house! It was a smaller size than the main cocktails on the menu, and so delicious! For our first round, I selected the Ginger cocktail and my husband chose the Chapulin Colorado. The Ginger was incredible - the warming spices (clove and cinnamon) beautifully complimented the citrus and tequila flavors. The Chapulin Colorado was perplexing in the best way. It was very bell pepper forward until the popsicle melted more and gave way to stronger licorice (from the absinthe) and cherry flavors. For my second round, I ordered the Fill Collins and I loved it just as much as the Ginger. With pisco, rose, and hibiscus lending floral notes and the strawberry shrub providing fruitiness and a little funk, it was a beautifully balanced cocktail. Finally, as we were celebrating our anniversary, they gave us a digestif on the house, and while I don't remember what all was in it, it was absolutely perfect - a little fruity, warming, with just a hint of sourness, it was the best way to end our time at The Aviary. Our server, Andrew, was lovely and so friendly - we couldn't have asked for a better way to start our evening!

Had a great time here with friends on New Years Eve. Based on previous reviews, we weren't super hungry when we arrived for our 9pm seating so we found that the food portions were good. Speaking of the food..WOW..every small plate was carefully constructed and delicious. We all loved everything we ate. Which leads me to why this is only a three star review...the drinks were good but I think we were expecting more of an 'experience'..especially for what we paid. Our server and the rest of the staff we interacted with were terrific and I'm glad that we tried this place out. Would I visit again when I'm in town? Likely not...but just because there are so many other (less expensive) places to try.

Aviary is everything it is purported to be: amazing drinks, fabulous presentation, delicious food. Have the corn based cocktail.

The atmosphere is nice, and the staff was very courteous & attentive, but honestly, unless you can REALLY handle a large amount of alcohol, this is a waste of time. Very limited small plate food options, and extremely strong, albeit beautifully crafted, drinks If you want to spend $30 for a cocktail, more power to you, just wasn't our thing. We ended up leaving and getting dinner elsewhere.

My sister and I booked a reservation at The Aviary after finding the venue on the Alinea website. As soon as we arrived we were greeted by incredibly friendly hosts who took our coats and showed us to our table. We opted for the 3 cocktails and were not disappointed. Every drink started out amazing and as time passed became even more interesting. My final drink was a surprising twist on the old fashioned that I didn’t see coming and it was my favorite cocktail of the evening. The edamame was so exceptional we doubled up the order. This was the highlight of our visit to Chicago and I would absolutely visit in the future as there are so many cocktails to choose from you can have a unique experience each time you go.

I was thinking about going here with friends, until I learned that not only might the staff spit on you, the staff won't be fired for doing so. Google it.

Drinks were very creative, tasty, strong, and fun. We enjoyed the drinks presentation of— the explanation was similar to a tasting/five star menu. Drinks are priced to presentation and Chicago. We did not like the one with boba bottles and our neighbors didn’t seem to enjoy it either. We alerted our waiter and he did not acknowledge or made any effort to reconcile or mediate the situation. I enjoyed the Phil Collins and the Blueberry Barrel (pictured). The Sandia was ok for me, but not bad. My friend really liked the Smoked Papaya and presentation was fun like a science experiment. The smokiness brought out all of the notes of the liquor. I agree with some of the other reviews that the waiters were not as attentive as one would expect. Reservation process can be improved in my opinion. Glad we did ir and would go again, but for one cocktail and the experience.

The full Aviary team were wonderful. Celebrating our son's 21st birthday at the Kitchen Table. What a special night ... one to remember. The drinks! The food pairings! The service!

Amazing experience!! The Mixologist are phenomenal. The different cocktails offer are a sensory experience. The flavors change as you sip the drinks. The food is an wonderful culinary experience. The black truffle ravioli is an explosion of flavor. Highly recommend trying this place if you are in the west loop.

This is a pretentious place, although the drinks and food might be good, the staff cannot be more snob. They have no idea how to treat a client. It is not an art piece is just a restaurant.

My wife and I experienced one of kind cocktails before dinner. The drinks are unique and unforgettable. It won't disappoint.

Great and creative cocktails. Great staff as younwould expect. The problem for me was the food. Nano portions but with great taste as you would expect from alínea group. I was planning to dine after but all kitchens close at 22:00 at Lincoln MKT...... my suggestion is to include some bigger portions for the hungry!!!!!

This is a must visit if you are cocktail lover. The experience is unforgettable. The 3 course tasting is the best deal in my view since you get to enjoy differnet levels of intensity with different booze. If you are heavy drinker, the five course is probably appropriate. The food pairing is average, for the price you pay it’s likely better to eat something else in west loop (check out Au Cheval, Haymarket Brewery or bar sienna, all within 10 min walk).

Quite the experience Worth doing at least once for a ‘been there done that’ claim Did the 5 course pairing In a booth Very inventive cocktails Beautifully matched to the dishes Presentation was amazing Accommodating when it came to dietary restrictions Downsides VERY EXPENSIVE STAFF VERY PRETENTIOUS some of the spirits not ‘top shelf’ which one would expect for a 30+$ cocktail food portions way too small, don’t offset the booze such that you are pretty tipsy by the 3rd course

Went for here for our anniversary. Ambiance was not luxurious but nice warm tones. The service was great. Very attentive staff. We had the Aviary Experience. The presentation is fun but most of the drinks were sweet and lacked balance. We thought 1 appetizer paired well. The rest were mid. We expected a more sophisticated atmosphere. What we got was room full of underdressed, jersey wearing tourists. People shooting non stop content and middle aged men hopped up on vitamin V trying to impress their much younger dates. This place was definitely one and done.

Incredible drinks and food. Took a client and they loved it. Excellent service. Beautiful ambience. Every cocktail is unique and creative.

Came where with a small group on a weekday early evening. It was a little funny because when we arrived, we had no idea if they'd be able to accommodate a walk in. They did their routine on checking for availability and were able to accommodate us. Upon entering, the place was practically empty. The whole time we were there, I would say there was a total of 10 other people besides us. So lots of empty tables. As for the drink selections and small bites, they make absolutely no modifications or substitutions so they can't accommodate food allergies or dietary restrictions (vegan/vegetarian). They have a separate small menu for non-alcoholic drinks and i thought it was so odd that they couldn't simply make a drink non-alcoholic. The service was great but I could see that the server was a bit annoyed that we asked about possible substitutions or accommodations. We've never been there before and have only heard about it from others or on social media. There's no need to get a little annoyed by our questions. For the price you pay per drink, it is not worth it. The presentation of the drinks when they arrive is pretty cool and very unique. If you want to experience something different and don't mind the price tag, check it out. But if you're budget conscious or need certain dietary needs, skip this place.

Went on a whim while we were in Chicago. Were able to get a reservation and did the 5 course tasting menu. It was truly an amazing experience. Each cocktail had such unique flare and preparation. I highly recommend if your in the Chicago area...check The Aviary out!

To be clear, a lot of thought and effort goes into creating, preparing and serving the cocktails and I believe they are trying to create value. In my view, it tips to more style over substance. So if you want a show, it's great. If you just want a good cocktail, there are other places with far less hassle that are much easier on the pocketbook. For our experience, we opted for the 5 course menu, which is 5 cocktails matched with a bar snack and priced at $136++. Most of it is from the a la carte menu. I didn't find any of them to be all that special. The cocktails were good, but definitely not worth the $22+ they charge on the menu. The food was forgettable, except for the pork rinds. Overall, it seemed more about the Instagram moments e.g. serving a drink in a box that is filled with smoke or frozen rings of fruit that melt into the drink to flavor it, than the mixology. Service I found to be friendly, but they will try to bum-rush you out to turn the table unless you push back on them. Responsible alcohol service doesn't seem a priority.

This venue came highly recommended by a bartender at another Chicago bar that we thoroughly enjoyed. Unfortunately it didn't come close to meeting the expectation set. Service was slow and frumpy, cocktails were over diluted and served relatively warm. They seem to rely on gimicks but lack the skill to pull off smoked and aromatized cocktails. Glassware was classy, they seemed to have every tool at their disposal, but they just lacked somehow. There was no spirit in them, no enthusiasm, and the end result reflected this. The food on the other hand was fantastic. I'd thoroughly recommend stopping to dine and perhaps have a bottle of wine. Though steer clear of the cocktails as they clearly don't have a trained mixologist in the building. Cocktails 1 star. Service 1 star. Food 4.5 star.

Completely re-inventing the cocktail game, awesome presentation, and taste! If you want to go do not have a budget in mind, it is expensive but it is worth it!

Visiting Chicago so made a reservation to visit the aviary. It’s a small, dimly lit lounge type space. The drinks are good and potent. But the prices are absurd. And the whole place just reeks of pretension. Good for the experience, but I have no desire to ever go again.

We shared six cocktails. Five stars for the drinks and their presentation - they were delicious and a lot of fun. We were surprised negativelu, however, by how boring the seating/decor was. Bland and innocuous, which makes no sense given the overall exoticness being sold.

My wife and I went to Aviary for the five course tasting menu. Admittedly we have HUGE expectations after having been two other Alinea Group restaurants but we were really disappointed in how the experience went. We were seated late and then waited another 20 minutes for our first drink. This timing made no sense as we were doing the tasting menu and weren't going to have to actually order anything. The drinks were good but for the cost of the entire evening I would not recommend this at all.

Excellent spot for cocktails and small bites. This is one of the top 50 bars in the world and it tastes like it. All of the cocktails are so complex and unique. Highly recommend!

We arrived to a bouncer outside the door and I was surprised that he had to verify our reservation before we’d be let in; this definitely isn’t a place to just stop in for a quick drink without a reservation. We had booked the kitchen table (7 courses) but I didn’t realize that there was just a single table and that we would be the only people having the experience which was a nice surprise. It was lots of fun being in the bar/kitchen and being able to see them making all of the cocktails/food. The only choice we had to make was whether we wanted sparkling or still water and from then on it was all just sitting back and enjoying the meal/drinks. We knew ahead of time that the food portions would be small and we made sure we didn’t go in hungry (we ate a big meal around 4 hours beforehand) and that worked well. We received 7 courses of food but there were extra cocktails both before and after those 7 courses so we had a total of 9 cocktails. We have a decent but not amazing alcohol tolerance and we ended up finishing all but 1 of the cocktails and did end up drunker than intended but we should’ve just not finished one or two of those earlier drinks and we would’ve been fine. The first server told us that it was going to be a lot of drinks and it’s totally OK to not finish them but when we’re spending so much on a cocktail it can be hard to justify wasting half of it. Food portions were indeed on the smaller side (with the exception of the enormous fried pig skin, although that’s obviously not something which really fills you up, especially since the salt got to be too much for me after a while). Food was all very well presented and tasty and the drinks were all very enjoyable as well. About half the drinks had some “unique” presentation or process in making them which honestly is probably the #1 reason to come to the Aviary. Service was very good but not perfect and it might’ve been due to being at the kitchen table. I’m not sure if the other tables use team service as well (or to this extent) but by having practically everyone in the kitchen/bar serve us at some point or another it felt a bit disjointed. It seemed like nobody was really directly responsible for our table but instead we were in an extremely visible spot so whoever saw we needed something would just come on over. In general that worked very well but there were a couple flubs (i.e. one server telling us they’d be back with a spoon once we were half done with our drink but we had been fully done for maybe 5-10 minutes before the spoons arrived). If you’ve got a decent alcohol tolerance I’d strongly recommend the Aviary and the kitchen table.

Was really looking forward to my night at the aviary and it looked like it was going to me the highlight of my trip to Chicago - it wasn't ! Yes I knew the drinks were going to be expensive and therefore was expecting great service, fab surroundings and a bit of pizzazz. Yes the cocktails that were dumped on our table were very nice but $28 each they should be!!!! However our waiter was not particularly friendly and there was nothing special about presentation of cocktails. Would also expect to have complimentary nibbles, e.g olives, crisps but instead a waitress walked round with a plastic trolley offering 1inch of bacon on a stick hot $6 - seriously. Also the bar lounge itself was very bland and nothing special. All in all to summarise, nice cocktails , unprofessional staff, bland surroundings and ridiculously overpriced.

I was looking to make a reservation on a Tuesday night in November and for some reason the only option was to purchase a three drink package for four for $400 including tip. I did it since it was our son’s graduation and our 25th anniversary. We showed up early and they escorted us to a room that was 60% empty. I knew then and there it was a set up to hype the place. We were seated at an unadorned table and approached by a rude , cold, impersonal waitress who gave a routine speech and was bothered by any questions. We felt as though we were bothering her. The drinks were different. Some creative. But not presented as they should be. They were just placed on the plain wood table…not impressed… the waitress knew she had her 20% tip and she did not care. She ruined the whole experience. If you can get in for one $29 drink go see it…but not a dime more….I’ve been to the best bars all over the world and this does not rate.

Went there with my son after dinner to check out the cocktails and the snacks in their stand-up bar area. From there you get a good view of the kitchen and prep area, as well as the main dining room. Definitely recommend the cocktails. The truffle popcorn was good but a little too powerful with the truffle.

This is one of those places you hesitate to review becasue you want the table to be available the next time you come, but I can't resist. The one table in the kitchen where they bring seven courses with seven amazing cocktails...this is where it's at. I called several friends after to say 'YOU MUST COME HERE'. We were treated so well and those bites and sips were out of this world. Go here. Take someone you love. Enjoy.

We went to the Aviary to sample their innovative cocktails. And I must say that the cocktails were innovative and delicious, But, not really overly distinctive from other molecular/craft cocktail bars that we've been too. And I think that this one is a little over-hyped and over-priced. You are unable to watch them make their wonderful creations but through a limited viewing area behind bars. I think that the service can be a little better and offer a little more guidance in navigating the complex menu. Walk, don't fly to the Aviary.

Our group sampled 4 drinks. All were preceded by the overdone entrance ritual, lengthy sermon on the philosophy, etc., and finally, the arrival of the cocktails. Each was accompanied by an elaborate explanation and setup. Sadly, one tasted like jello, another was so minute a serving as to be confused with a shot, and the other two were just ok. Onside ring the pricing, it was most disappointing.

We did the 5 course tasting menu with black truffle experience. Overall, there was a wide variety of spirits/cocktails provided. The food was meh but I think you really go here for the cocktail experience more so than the food. Next time I would choose my own drinks rather than the tasting menu.
Great Night
The Aviary is a wonderful place to drink unique and artful cocktails. My boyfriend and I bought a three drink course tasting menu. I was totally tanked after the third drink, but they were all so delicious I didn't want to leave any of the three behind!
