Food is very good, service is slow. A mouse ran by my foot last time I was there. They make some of the best nachos I've ever had.

Cozy little bar

By tish43 |

We went in for an early dinner over President's Day weekend. The food was very good, the beer was excellent according to my husband-the wine not so much. It was noisy for that time of day but I think it was because it was a holiday weekend. My only issue was the dirty table and wine glass. I had to mention cleaning both which bothered me...

Casual Atmosphere & A Nice Place to Chill

By Josh |

This little place on the corner is a great place ot chill, grab a brew and a snack. Lunch/Brunch is good, steak sandwich was really good and if you can do outdoor seating go for it if your a people watcher. Time your visit cause it can get full and bar area seats can really be at a premium as well as seating at prime hours. Its not a very large space! Its worth a visit when you have the time.

Great pub food with good service

By Ken W |

Fell into this place by luck because 1) the place we were looking for was closed for vacation and 2) there was parking right in front. It was our gain. Was looking for a good meal before dropping our sons off at Temple (10 min away) We chose the indoor seating, because the outdoor tables were full Good selection of appetizers, sandwiches, and entrees. We enjoyed Buffalo Chicken Wings appetizers. The boys had a chicken sandwich; the other had a pork sandwich. My wife went with a salad and I enjoyed my large hot Chicken Parm sandwich. Service was good - our water glasses always full. Saw they had and extensive beer selection, but this wasn't the night to try it. Looked like a good crowd was coming in

Great beer selection & nice place for lunch!

By mrwamw |

We went here for lunch while we were visiting the art museum during our recent trip to Philly. it was a nice place. They had an excellent selection of craft beers along with good, reasonably priced food. We ate outside and we able to experience perfect weather and people watch. I will definitely come here again when in Philadelphia.

generous servings! Good beer selection. Great juke box! Oh food... Pub fare delight! Wonderful week- end brunch. Friendly service & outdoor dining. Neighborhood treasure.

Nice location, great beer selection and pub food

By rdytogo_always |

Ate early dinner here - sat outside and enjoyed people watching and listening. Beer selection were good as were the risotto balls and marinara sauce, which we'd never heard of but were very tasty. Grilled chicken salad also was good, and service was prompt. Several servers walked around and seemed to serve all tables not just assigned ones, so food and beverages were promptly served.

Good Local Dive with a Jukebox & HUGE Beer Selection

By Susie B |

I enjoy going to The Bishop's Collar. I can't saw that I have every eaten anything except the nachos, which are good. However, the beer selection is fantastic! While is is loud, I find it very comfortable. I think this was the first time I sat inside since I last went during the warm weather and enjoyed their outside seating. Plus of being inside - a solid jukebox! Very fun.

Skeptical at first, but food was excellent

By Embee1991 |

Upon walking into the small corner pub that is The Bishop's Collar, I first noticed that I was one of the only women in the place. The majority of the clientele were men drinking at the bar. However, once seated in the small dining area past the bar, I was less uncomfortable. We had to wait about 5 minutes for a server but she was helpful and friendly. We ordered an Irish coffee(deliciously strong) and the vegetable quesadilla(delicious). I had the burger with Provolone and lagered onions. It was cooked just right and I thoroughly enjoyed it. My only complaints were no hot tea and no desserts. Overall, a pleasant experience in downtown Philly.

It took forever for us to get waited on and when we finally did, we weren't allowed to order from the lunch menu until after 2. When our order finally arrived, it took about five minutes to get silverware and it turned out that my french toast was extremely raw in the center (thankfully they took that off the bill) and fairly bland. There weren't many other vegetarian options so I ate the french fries which were pretty good. Cute vibe though.

Great Value Drinks

The Bishop’s Collar is situated in the Fairmount area of Philadelphia. It is a short walk away from the Eastern State Penitentiary. We popped in here on a very hot day after visiting the penitentiary. I was pleasantly surprised at the cheap prices. $7 for Guinness and $6 for the excellent local Yards Philly Pale Ale. We didn’t eat here but enjoyed our cooling drinks in a convivial atmosphere. Services was great too.

Well located outdoor dining

By tweedybird26 |

Near the Art Museum and Fairmount Park this neighborhood spot offers sandwiches and a beer selection with outdoor dining. Nothing special but good.

The "Cheers" of Philly

By Melody M |

Excellent food; very good service; cute neighborhood bar---the feel of the old Cheers show; we were a large group that had excellent service and very good food---the chicken salad and veggie quesidilla were good.

This is a pub with a great selection of beer and some very good casual food. Great for lunch. It was nosy though and they could not make my tea and were out of the beer my husband selected. They did suggest something else and brought a taste for approval.

Friendly staff, prompt service. Excellent beer selection but limited food selection (small menu). Food was good though, reasonable prices. Nice relaxed atmosphere.

Within walking distance of the Philadelphia Museum of Art (if you've been to the PMA you know there isn't much for dining / drinking in that area). The Bishop's Collar is a casual bar serving food. We found the drinks better than the food but still recommend the place as the service was very friendly and efficient.

Great atmosphere but a few service issues.

By Rob_Bob85 |

I really wanted to like this place, the seating was great, the look of the bar was great and it had a pretty good selection of beer! The big let down was food and service. Don't get me wrong the staff were friendly but pretty unattentative. It took about 10 minutes before some one came over, we had no silverware on the table despite asking 2-3 times and it took even longer for the food to be ordered. It was a Saturday afternoon but it didn't appear to be too busy, however they did appear to be short staffed. When we received the food it wasn't cooked all the way through, staff were very accomodating in the matter however it happened to a couple of us. I would come back here to eat again but at a less busy time.

Casual Drinks..

By MCGtravels |

Did not have any food there but the beer selection was huge and constantly changing as they erased some from the board and wrote in new ones as we stood there. Cool little spot, nice crowd.

Near art museum

By marimar2222 |

Easily walkable from the art museum this is a neighborhood bar/restaurant with very good food and a good selection of beers so sit at the bar or at a table and enjoy. The day I ate there I had the specials, a seafood chowder and a apple turkey panini and both were excellent. My friend and I shared the panini as it was a good size and too much after the soup but there are many other good choices.

Nice corner bar

By YoChief |

sandwiches were good, nice selection of drafts. Service was friendly. Very small corner tavern type feel

Decent food and good beer selection

By Erik I |

Bishop's Collar is a great local hangout with just above-average pub fare. The beer selection is good and a bit heavy on Belgians if that is your thing. The best part of the Collar is its relaxed atmosphere and great crowd.

Nice morning start at Collar

Lovely place and dog friendly (on the street terrace). The waiters are very nice and have neat tattoos.

Very pleasant on a sunny afternoon!

By Joseph L |

My bride and I met our daughter there for an early Saturday evening dinner. It was a beautiful, sunny day, so we decided to take advantage of the outdoor seating. The roast beef, bacon and tomato Panini was excellent as was the traditional roast beef sandwich. My daughter ordered a garden salad with apple slices adorning it. She was very complimentary of it. Service was excellent. Seating outside was enjoyable. Inside looks like a typical bar/pub....nothing fancy....I would return again.

Great location

Great location. Lovely neighborhood. Great drink selection. Good food. The staff was wonderful and very patient with our table.

Eclectic Menu, Friendly staff, very nice location

Fun atmosphere for a Philadelphia afternoon. Interesting, lively mix of customers, good menu choices to accompany some bar drinks. Great location close to museum, etc.

Sunday Brunch with the family

By drbaker1994 |

We were in the area to visit Eastern State and needed some lunch first. Came upon this pub and it had outdoor seating, it was a beautiful day so we stayed. My husband and son both got the Tommy and loved it. I got the apple salad with chicken and it was just ok. Kinda small for the price, but not sad we ate there. THe server was ok, not overly friendly but kept our water filled and got us what we needed. Seemed like a nice place to hang out for the locals and they all looked like they were having a great time. We did wait a long time for our meals to be served, but that may be some thing tthat is to be expected for a small place.

More of a bar scene at night, but great for lunch -- they have good, reasonably priced sandwiches.

Delicious!

By JGFamily5 |

I recently stopped by The Bishop's Collar with a few friends after visiting the Van Gogh exhibit. It was just a quick walk over, and the food was even better than I expected. Although it's not a fancy place, it certainly serves up very satisfying fare. I had a turkey sandwich with jack cheese, guacamole, and the most delicious roll-crusty on the outside, but soft and chewy on the inside. Yum!

Good Atmosphere / Good Food and Drink

By david l |

I come hear at least one time per week. Nice hip atmosphere on swanky Fairmount avenue. The service is always excellent. What I like about this establishment is that their food and drink menu is diverse, exceptional, and reasonably priced for a pub style atmosphere in this location. Their chicken salad stir fry is amazing.

if your going to eat here just go up the street to aspen all around a better bar

Great bar food at this place. Good draft list also.Gets kind of crowded on weekends, though. I do visit once in a while, even if it's busy.

Delicious and Wide Variety of Selections

By Deborah K |

this menu had a little bit of everything to satisfy our evening hunger, along with some good beverage selections. Service was attentive. The fries had too much seasoning which masked a good french fry taste. Ease up or order no seasoning. I will go back.

Local neighbourhood spot, just steps off the main drag.

By Ttaylo3 |

Great local place, just off the Main drag, near the Art Gallery. Stopped by one afternoon, grabbed a picnic table and enjoyed the weather. A lot of great beers on taps. Friendly service. If you want a break from the tourist areas, head here.

Great Location and Great Food.

By ManyConferences |

Needed a place close to our destination for lunch. This was great, not expecting much since it was kind of near tourist attractions but it exceeded my expectations. The grilled chicken was great but the best meal at the table was the BLT wrap with fresh and firm avocado. The fries seasoned with bay seasoning were the extra touch. Just a good lunch, with a great atmosphere and the server was wonderful! would love to have this in my hometown!!!

Reasonably Priced Lunch Menu

By gaminwoman |

This place turned out to be a very satisfying lunch spot for us, as we dined outside at the cafe tables. The barbecue sandwich was very tasty, and the side salad was good too. They have an extensive beer list, but, unfortunately, it included only one lager. It was tasty, though.

Bring back the old menu!

By jlaroche |

I have lived in the neighborhood for 8 years and I used to love "The Collar". I used to love sharing an outside table with friends on a warm sunny day. They had a good beer selection, and simple yet good food. I don't have to have some fancy over-the-top meal. Often, I just want something simple yet well executed. The Collar used to have that. Their old steak sandwich was a good crusty roll, good quality flank steak, and some sautéed onions and peppers. It was simple, but it was good. Then, the collar went and revamped their menu towards something higher end. Suddenly, the steak was marinaded and had fire roasted peppers and onions. It sounds good, but the execution isn't there and the sandwich just isn't as good as the old. The last time i had it, the marinade was overly strong and the whole sandwich was vinegary. They got rid of the super-popular chicken nachos, but brought them back after an customer uproar. The menu keeps changing but it never lives up to the old quality. I'm not sure why it changed. Perhaps, it was in response to the opening of Lemon Hill and other high-end boutique bars in the neighborhood. Maybe, the Collar thought that they needed to become upscale to compete. The truth is that the Collar has always had a great following and loyal customer base. Locals loved it because you could always count on it as a place that you could relax and get a good meal. It's losing that a bit.

Dive bar atmosphere

By bobbim892 |

Musty and gross. Walked in and walked out. Smells like 100 years of cigarettes. Would not get food there. Ended I somewhere else. May be a great night time spot buts it’s small. Feels like a regular dive bar that can be found in any city.

Not inspiring......keep walking folks!

By USMA1983 |

Beer joint. Limited bar grub. Nothing to get excited about here. Brutal parking and a similar menu. I would keep moving if I were you pal...... No doubt!

Come eat here and pay for your sins.

By bugsmakeithappen |

We decided to try something new in the Art Museum district, since we always eat at Rembrandt's when we're in the area. We knew it was a bar, nothing fancy, but we went on a Friday afternoon for the purpose of a small meal, as opposed to just getting drinks. The lunch menu looked as we expected, though there were no descriptions for each item. I ordered a "Chipotle Chicken Sandwich" that was nothing more than a deep fried, frozen patty on a mediocre roll, some 'chipotle-ranch' sauce with a lettuce leaf large enough for 3 sandwiches. My girlfriend ordered the chicken tacos, which were decidedly better than my sandwich. The "homemade" salsa that accompanied the tacos however, was flavorless as thought it had been recently defrosted. The table seating and restaurant aspect of the Bishop's Collar seems like an afterthought to the bar area and the service was average at best. Both of these meals were just under $10 apiece, which is entirely too much to pay for the 2 hour stomach ache you'll endure afterward. If you visit, stick to just drinks.

Late lunch with my daughter

By llmcat |

This was a quaint little restaurant where my daughter and I enjoyed delicious sandwiches sitting outside on a beautiful day in the beautiful city of Philadelphia. The menu offered plenty of options, each one sounding very delicious.

Good food. Great tunes

Brunch is enormous & delicious. Beer selection is abundant. One bitter afternoon they made me hot mulled wine. Warm neighborhood atmosphere, great staff. Juke box the best array!

Earned A Badge

By JLC91 |

This bar is located in an affluent neighborhood, a quarter-mile walk from the art museums. I went to earn a badge for the Untapped app. It turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The bar is small, but is obviously well-cared for by its owners and has a local history. It has a comfortable bar area and a separate area with tables for eating. It has a sports flavor with local nods to Eagles and Phillies, but is authentic and not an in your face corporate sports bar. The food was high end bar food with variety, which fits the neighborhood. The tap did not feature enough local or even PA brews for my taste, but had quality offerings from Bells and Dogfish Head for example, and a couple locals. I enjoyed a quiet lunch on a snowy Tuesday afternoon. Really fresh, generous salad and chicken strips. Quality staff. I recommend a visit.

Outdoor patio

By 508EllenCee |

Nice outdoor patio, good selection of beers and cider. The menu looked good, but we did not partake. Excellent service!

Solid Little Bar

By Ryan Lawler |

Solid little bar near the Eastern State Penitentiary. Nothing crazy about it - solid food and good drinks. Prices seemed fair as well. Service was good!

Lovely Lunch

By Bill T |

Great extensive beer selection, delicious Burrito, and a Roast Beef Sandwich. This is a neighborhood favorite that always offers great food and drink options. Dinner can be crowded and busy for a good reason so lunch gives you all the good stuff without the crowd. Whatever you choose, this is s great spot for you.

not the choice for lunch

By jan061 |

We stopped in for lunch after the Eastern State Penitentiary. the air conditioning wasn't on. The waitress was not busy but was uninterested and inattentive. two of us got chicken parm sandwiches, one was better than the other. Mine was overcooked and just like rubber. The side salad was, however, excellent.

Friday night hangout

By Vance N |

Pet Friendly. Good beer selection, great food. The buttermilk chicken tenders were perfect and came with a side of delicious crab fries. You can sit outside on sidewalk tables.

Fun and relaxing

By Amy G |

The Bishop's Collar is always a great place to go for quick food and a great beer or glass of wine. We used to go when we were in college and the years after and had a great time and now with kids, it's still great! It's a little on the louder side inside so if your kids get crazy, no one really cares!

By flyinthemilk |

walked in to seek respite from the heat and have a couple of beers. Had some good craft beers on tap and in bottles. Seemed like a good little neighborhood spot for the locals.

great corner bar

By Jack M |

They have cold beer, hot burgers, great service, great fries--what else do you need? The best neighborhood bar in Fairmount.

Great Lunch

By Bradford W |

We were there for lunch, during a cold spell in mid-February; besides the bartender and waitress, no one else stopped by. There was a huge selection of draft and bottled beer: not being beer drinkers, that aspect went past us. We both had the special of the week: Turkey Pot Pie. It was excellent, the crust was flakey and light on the top, with no crust on the bottom. The serving was very large, so eating two was out of the question. We were both very impressed with the meal.

Great beer stop

By Gerardo C |

Great to place to stop and have a beer or drink before dinner in the city. Nice quick menu. There is a good selection of draft beers.

Fantastic beer list, easy post museum drinks

By Jonathan D |

The outdoor seating on a good day is far more important than the authenticity of the nachos. If you agree, then read on. Bishop's Collar is a great follow up for the Art Museum because of its location and the variety of beer. If you have a small group that wants to drink merrily and keep talking, this is your place. There are always a number of new draft selections worth trying and the bottle/can list holds a few gems at any given time. Don't show up with foodies who demand ornate or highly creative eating. The food is good, pub-style with sizable portions. It may not offer the BEST burger in town, but it is a good burger. The vegetarian options are fairly good as well, but don't expect rave reviews.

Nice find

By Simon B |

Whilst walking from the Rocky Statue to the Penitentiary we got hungry and our lunch stop happened to be here. What a great find! A smallish bar on the corner of Fairmount and 24th st, just a few blocks from the Penitentiary. Good beer, friendly service and a great range of wraps and sandwiches that are fresh and just a little bit different from the usual fare amd quickly served.

Glad to have happened upon the Bishop's Collar

By Ritoula |

Walking around the museum area of Philly, after visiting the must-see Rocky statue, we stopped a local to ask about a place for lunch. He directed us to Fairmount Street, where there were several places to choose from. The Bishop's Collar sits unassumingly on a corner, with a few beer signs in the windows, a small, inviting presence. We sat at the bar of this narrow restaurant, rather than at one of the tables in the back. It was busy enough for a random Monday. Having expected standard bar food, I was happily surprised with the menu, which offered several healthy options. I had the chicken salad sandwich which was absolutely delicious. My son opted for a burger and fries, also much to his liking. They have a well rounded beer list with about a dozen or so draft beers, and plenty of bottles to choose from, featuring many local beers. Great lunch experience, and I would definitely return.

Great local hangout.

By George-and-Peggy |

Stopped in for a beer and to watch the football game. Friendly staff and really great burgers. Good local bar. Go.

Nice little place. Good beer

By Tony G |

Stopped after seeing Rocky. Short walk and a real good experience. Tried 2 beers and steak sandwich. A very good time. Bartender was very friendly and outgoing

Amazing little place on the corner!

By Kerry d |

Popped in here while waiting for a friend to get into town.... And what a surprise! Cute atmosphere, great beer selection, and amazing food. We tried the pumpkin risotto balls (which were to die for) and the chicken nachos. Mike, the bartender, was funny and witty... Making our afternoon extremely enjoyable. Overall, five stars! We will definitely be back.

the best brunch for the money

By weezle |

Yeah, the Bishop's Collar is great place to meet friends and have a beer...but did you know that they have the best Sunday brunch in the neighborhood too? I've been there many times and it is alway delicious and doesn't cost a lot either. You can get steak and eggs for around 10 bucks. Plus, they usually have delicious french toast with fresh fruit and other solid breakfast classics. The only caveat I will add is that you cannot be in a hurry...service is SLOW...take a newspaper or watch ESPN on one of the tvs...but it is definitely worth the wait. This is a good place for out of towners to start off before an Sunday afternoon at the nearby art museum. Pat is a also very friendly barkeep. The patrons are regular folk too, not pretentious, just interested in some good food on a Sunday.

Beer joint with ok food

By MikeMUSA |

would probably rate 3.5, better than average, but not quite "very good." Excellent beer selection and decent food for lunch or an after work bite. The neighborhood has more and more places to enjoy.

The Bishop's Collar

By GI380 |

At first our waitress was a little intimidated by us out of towners but once we ordered some food, she started to lighten up. Great drinks (awesome bloody mary) and tasty appetizers. We thought the name of the place was fun so we had to see for ourselves.

Good Craft Beer Selection

By PhillyShaney |

I have visited BC in the past during beer crawls, Bastille Day festivals & a few Happy Hours w/friends. I have always felt the vibe was easy & chill...nice neighborhood bar. I like the craft beer & food oprions. This visit I had some food..the chicken spring rolls and Old Bay fries. It passes the test of good pub food. In tbe past I have had the burger and it was tasty too. The prices are reasonable and the staff are friendly- worth a visit.

Best Bar in Fairmount. Excellent Food, Good Beer

By Ryan J |

Bishop's is by far the best bar in Fairmount. Suprisingly attentive service for a place that is usually quite busy. The kitchen is fast, but awesome for bar food! Addictive chicken nachos, never feels overwhelmingly crowded even when people are spilling out the front door, and has a good beer selection! Oh and sit outside for good people watching.
