Typical Houston stake, typical price

By ojedamd@hotmail.com |

Located on a pleasant pedestrian street, surrounded by other restaurants, near the hotel and conference area. The decoration, classic American. The cuisine based on grilled meats is sensational. The potato and asparagus sides were magnificent. Delicious battered squid. The desserts, very rich. High price

Overpriced and underwhelming

By Dr. A |

I had high expectations for this place but it didn’t deliver. The steak was over charred from the outside, cooked well on inside. Lobster Mac and cheese had 2-3 small pieces in a big plate of pasta. Wine by glass wildly over priced. The services was good, but overall not good value for money.

Best Steak!

By Kate M |

My husband and I enjoyed a perfect dinner at Capital Grille. His steak, the Porcini Rubbed Bone-in Ribeye with 15-year Aged Balsamic, was outstanding and so flavorful - not your typical steak! He noted that it was the best steak he had ever eaten. I enjoyed the Seared Tenderloin with Butter Poached Lobster Tails. With our entrees plus the bread basket, we were completely full. However, we still made room for my birthday dessert - creme brûlée cheesecake and the flourless chocolate cake. Both were delicious. We had great service and look forward to our next visit!

Great Experience

By Christina G |

My husband and I enjoyed our dining experience and the Dolce wine was delightful! The best part of our experience outside of the food and wine was our service. It has been difficult to find good service nowadays but Mike was an amazing host! He was attentive and had a nice note waiting for us when we arrived to celebrate our anniversary! All of the dishes we selected were based on his recommendation and it was a hit! We will definitely add you guys to our rotation moving forward!

Superb steak

By Eve Helen |

Exceptional cuisine and dishes overall. I must confess my expectations were modest—considering their other establishments and the proximity to Grand Central Station. The steak arrived perfectly prepared to my liking, and the staff provided attentive and thoughtful service throughout our visit.

Birthday Dinner

By GlobeTrotting800886 |

On September 30,2020 my son took me to Capital Grille for dinner,I had a very good time their. I thought that the restaurant setting was beautiful and inviting. The management and wait staff could not have been more accommodating, and the service was outstanding. I would definitely go again, the food, service and ambience were impeccable.if you are looking for a fine dining experience with good service and a very good meal and drinks I highly would recommend Capital Grille.

Nice steaks and friendly staff

By BlarghBlargh |

We thought we should get some steak while in America and chose to come to Capital Grille. The staff were very friendly, the atmosphere great, and overall the meals were very well cooked, especially the steaks themselves. The main downfall was portion sizes, I know we're in America, but they were often too large, but then at other times not. The starters were really reasonably sized, so we decided to get quite a few sides with our steaks as we assumed the portion sizes must be smaller (read: normal for people not from the US) here. The steaks and sides were then massive and it was impossible to finish everything. Everywhere else in the US also had aircon, but I'm unsure if it was broken, but it was boiling hot meaning I found it really hard to enjoy my rich steak and bottle of wine - it was the last thing I wanted being so warm.

Wonderful meal

Ask for Diego!

By Mary C |

Diego was an excellent waiter. Very attentive and enjoyed our conversation with him.The food was terrific! We were celebrating our birthdays and they brought us a desert which was really nice. Would definitely return if we go back to Chicago.

Great Steak

By Roy T |

Went here for dinner. The interior has a confortable 1920's - 1930's feel. The service was great and waiter was very attentive. Steak is what they are known for so not for vegans/vegetarians. We both had the 22oz. ribeye steaks which was cooked exactly who we ordered it. Tender and flavorful. We shared a side of mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. Both were large enough where we couldn't finish it all Great place for a romantice date night.

Unfortunate Experience - Never return

By Luis A |

On July 18th 2024, we had an awful experience with this restaurant. It was our first time in Chicago with our family. The last day we wanted to close the trip with a dinner in a meat restaurant. The Capital Grille - Chicago Downtown was close to our hotel and we decided to make a reservation. We arrived on time, and we saw that doors were closed. We tried to enter and suddenly the host stopped us and told us the restaurant was closed. We told him we had a reservation confirmed by the restaurant and showed him the Number received through the OpenTable app. We claimed him there were people inside the restaurant and enough tables at that time. He just said the reservations were canceled due to an internal event. We were surprised because we did not receive any cancellation message that day. This person with any kind of decency said there was no chance to dinner that night, and we could submit a claim to customer service if we want. We told him we were international tourist and asked him to give us a table to end our trip enjoying his restaurant´s menu and requesting him an option to this negative situation for us. He just turned around, closed the door and let us outside. Suddenly, we were in a situation with no place to close our trip in a good restaurant. Without a reservation, it was very difficult to find a good place in summertime vacations. We were so disappointed. And looking to my wife and kids I told them we will not close our experience with a bad experience. So, I looked for other meat restaurants and we went without any reservation to Gibsons Steakhouse. The place was full. But I told the host the bad situation we experienced with The Capital Grille, and our frustration, especially as international tourists. But then, 5 minutes later we were sitting and being attended by great personnel and eating wonderful cuts of meat in a legendary restaurant. So, do not waste time trying to make a reservation at The Capital Grille having the risk of receiving a cancellation of your reservation and being attended by the worst host ever. Without a doubt, go to Gibsons or another recognized and traditional premium meat restaurant in Chicago.

Expectations failed

By Janne S |

I ordered fillet mignon as medium and for fully cooked one. Was very dry. Other companions had their steaks as medium. So probably chef let mine rest far too long. Also my steak was charred on one side. The service was very good and polite. The restaurant itself was clean, tidy and has nice atmosphere.

Our server Diego was great.

By Paddykatz |

Our server Diego was great. We already knew their steaks were great but he pointed us to the Kona crusted shallot butter steak. Best I have ever had and I have lived here my entire life. For the wine he asked what we liked and asked the bartender his thoughts. They brought us a reasonably priced cab that was spot on. I’m a Zinfandel guy so I was surprised on the boldness. We have requested To dine with Diego the last three times. Every time was a great experience. Great job to Diego and his team.

Magnificent and ticks every culinary boxes. 100% deserves the 5 star rating. Fine dining.

By AnilJ |

Magnificent. A delightful establishment with supreme service and a retro feel that befits the culinary extravaganza. Literally on the Magnificent Mile and easy access. The teams are expertly trained and managed and provide knowledgable suggestions and considerations to meet with your pallet choices. We opted for the Aged Steak Strip on-the-bone which was delicious and one of the best steaks I’ve had! We also had their signature Lamb Chops which were out of this world. Mashed potato with spinach and mushroom completed the selection. Prices are reflected of the superb reputation and in-line with other fine dining eateries. We enjoyed the table on the raised step that gave great views across the restaurant as well as the chefs. Management deserve special praise for keeping this place ticking with military precision. If you’re after classic service with fine dining etiquette and surrounded in pure Chicago themed ambiance, this is a place for you. A booking at usual peak times is essential. A place definitively worthy of its high rating and service excellence.

Probably the best steak ever

By graeme C |

Beautiful old world Chicago steak house. Super polite staff and a very comfortable and smart restaurant. Food was amazing and out performs the other high end steak restaurants in Chicago. 100% would go back!

Great Mother’s Day Covid-19 meal

By Diane K |

We picked up a Mother’s Day meal during the Covid-19 pandemic- and it was great! Warming directions were included. It made for a very memorable Mother’s Day during difficult circumstances.

Fantastic Dining

By Amya2804 |

I was in Chicago on business, my husband traveled with me. We went to the Capital Grille for dinner to celebrate our first trip to Chicago. Valerie Delfin assisted us throughout the evening and made sure that we lacked for nothing. Great food, great service and it all made for a memorable first visit, and made us want to go back. Kudos to everyone at the Capital Grille, and especially to Valerie. Thank you all for a fantastic dining experience.

Totally awesome!

By Ludwig M |

Totally top notch, very tasty NY strip eaten, perfectly baked (medium rare) with tasty sides. Very friendly staff, very jovial. Enjoyed this case after a marathon. Got free dessert for wearing a medal.

Wonderful dining experience!!!

By Margaret P |

We chose to dine here to celebrate our son’s engagement to his lady! There were 9 in our party. The atmosphere was lovely! Very comfortable seating! Tables are not too close to each other! The food was exquisite from presentation, portion size, and of course flavor! However, we were most impressed with our waiter, Mike! He met our every need without being overbearing! He was both pleasant and extremely efficient! Took the time to get to know us and addressed several of us by name. He truly contributed to our family having a most wonderful and memorable dinner! We look forward to returning to this restaurant soon and would be delighted if Mike was our waiter again!!!

Wonderful place to have a great meal

By Passport666773 |

My husband and I enjoyed an amazing meal. Ralph our waiter was very attentive and courteous. The steak we had was cooked to perfection and the caramel cream pie topped off a wonderfully satisfying meal.

Excellent

By dnottelmann |

Went with my husband to Capital Grille for my birthday. Steak was perfect. Food and service both very excellent. Of course it is pricey, but a nice night out. Oakbrook location has plenty of free parking and easy access.

Birthday and Anniversary

By JimandJanFitzgerald |

Special thank you to our waiter Adam. My wife and I were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary and her 80th birthday. The on-the-bone steak was excellent. The atmosphere was exquisite and romantic. The management and staff made us feel very special. It was a very delightful evening and one which we will never forget.

Always reliable with great service

By Chiili |

We were placed in a small room with only 4 tables so it was quiet. Our waiter Mike was excellent. The Caesar salad was good and the steaks are always well prepared and cooked perfectly. The sautéed spinach with garlic was excellent. The wine list is really good and reasonably priced.

business dinner

By Oliver F |

Great steakhouse with fantastic staff. The atmosphere reminds you of one of those typical American steakhouse with dim lighting but not to dim. We ate a variety of steaks, all cooked to perfection, with a few side dishes: Everything was great and I would definitely come back.

Great experience and a true way to end the trip!

By Tara S |

Great experience and a true way to end the trip! Came here for my friend's birthday dinner. The service is A-1 and prompt. Location is great. Food is fresh and the service is prompt with serving meats and clearing tables.

Nice steak restaurant, good ambience, more formal than relaxed

By Jon |

Visited here with my Mrs whilst in Chicago and it was good. Waiter was superb and service all night couldn’t be faulted. The steak, the sides (truffle chips) were outstanding and they had a St Emillion Grand Cru on as a house wine which was absolutely unbelievable for such a vintage. Would 100% return. Only gave it 4 stars as it doesn’t do “big” steaks and I had been weaving myself all day. This is more formal as opposed to a dirty steakhouse so dress and prepare as such.

Always a delicious meal with first class service.

By Bobbie W |

We had another phenomenal meal in the 40’s room. Mike, our server, was absolutely wonderful and very knowledgeable about wine and the menu. He also appreciated that we liked to space our courses and served us accordingly. We had the calamari, field green salad, Wagyu beef special with a side of mushrooms and all was delicious. Stonecreek cab was a great pairing. We always enjoy our meals at Capital Grille when we are in town and this meal lived up to our expectations. Highly recommend a quiet meal in the 40’s room. Ask for Mike.

Excellent Service

By L3740SEjamest |

This is an expensive restaurant but you definitly get what you pay for. From the hot towels to crumbing the table these folks do it right. The food was very good as well as the service. The atmosphere is extra nice and the staff really looks out for you. But take your credit card.

Anniversarry Dinner

By francesvk |

We went to the Capital Grille in Rosemont IL. The food and service were excellent. The room was cozy and elegant with various paintings on the wall of persons in the Chicago area. We haven't been to the one in Chicago but I am sure it is equal to the one in Rosemont. Another Capital Grille just opened in Schaumburg and haven't had the opportunity to dine there.

The Go Over and Beyond

By RexGermanorium |

We made a reservation for my wife and me along with another couple. We were celebrating our 50th anniversary and our friends were celebrating their 51st. They asked if there was something special for this lunch and I told them about the anniversaries. When we arrived we were warmly welcomed and seated promptly. Our server, Sue Garesche, noted our anniversaries and asked if we would like some complimentary champagne (sparkling wine)? Of course, we would. We had a delightful lunch. In addition, our server took our picture and presented to each couple a photo in a holder. The wine we ordered was out of stock, but they offered a similar wine listed at a higher price for the same amount as the one out of stock. We also received a complimentary dessert with "Happy Anniversary" in Cocoa powder stenciled on the serving plate. Sue was gracious, warm, very attentive, and took care of us to our complete satisfaction. This is a wonderful place to have a celebration.

Simply excellant!

By J S |

Food was exceptional and is always consistent. Have never had a bad meal here. Service was outstanding. Dirty martini was delish. A def come back for a great meal

Dry aged beef

By mytrex |

I have enjoyed eating at The Capital Grille in Chicago for years. Their dry aged beef is excellent and the room is very comfortable with a decor that is both luxurious but not over-the-top. Even with a large number of new steakhouses in Chicago, I prefer this restaurant. I might add the sound level is moderate (comfortable) unlike a lot of more recent additions to the restaurant scene. The location is convenient to Michigan Avenue.

Simply the BEST!!!

By Dwight Clevelan... C |

There is no shortage of steak houses in Chicago but you don't need to know any others except this one! The quality of the steak here is simply unmatched. Everyone says that but it is true here, and I've tried them all. Don't miss the calamari appetizer!

New Years Eve

By George S |

Service and food were spectacular. New Years Eve dinner. Kona Crusted Dry Aged bone in strip was perfectly prepared to medium and delicious to the last bite. Wife had filet and lobster tail. Also perfectly prepared. Our server asked a few questions and then recommended the perfect wine pairing. Great evening.

Thanksgiving dinner— great meal, but know before you go

By MeT1nT2 |

We had a fantastic thanksgiving meal — traditional turkey and fixings — all was great and we left stuffed. It came on a plate to the table — no buffet! You could also order from the regular menu. They had great wine as well. I think this was just because of thanksgiving because people lingered from what they said... but we weren’t seated until half an hour past our reservation time — so with arriving early we waited over forty minutes. The bar was packed but about half that time we were able to sit down. The staff was all wonderful and took care of us well... so while normally that would be a poor rating I can’t downgrade their rating. If you go on Thanksgiving you might want to reserve on the early side or go earlier in the day before they back up... or just know it may be a slower experience... but I would definitely go there again for Thanksgiving if we where are in town again for Thanksgiving!

Great service on a special occasion.

By Bill W |

From the moment we walked in the door the staff was courteous, attentive and eager to serve. We celebrated an anniversary and when I made the reservation I mentioned this. To our surprise we had a card waiting for us along with heart shaped confetti sprinkled on the table. We didn't notice waiters hovering but even after a sip the water glasses were always filled. The food was extraordinary.

Prime rib is the best

By Yoshihisa Y |

I had the seasonal porcini-infused prime rib. It was the best I've had in America. I paired it with California wine, and there were many options to choose from, so I was very satisfied.

the best

By Cara Haren Geller |

I really loved this place that is highly recommended and for the family the space of the place is the best!!!

Very good option for lunch

By elsa82015 |

We went for lunch the day after Thanksgiving. The restaurant is elegant, the food delicious and the service superb. Very attentive but not obnoxious. The steaks were very good, and so was the shrimp. Even the bread to start eating and the butter were really, really good. It is so nice to have a meal in a restaurant that you can actually talk!.

Family dinner

By Fabrizio V |

Typical steakhouse central location (without river view), but the quality and quantity of the food and in particular the meat are spectacular with an excellent wine list. For this reason, during a short stay we returned twice. Good service, be careful, you need to book to avoid any surprises. Average prices for a well-kept restaurant in downtown

Chicago weekend getaway

By Camille G |

The food was amazing! Best stake I have ever had. 100% recommended and I’m 12 yes old! I order the Filet Mignon and Asparagus, sooo good!

A Cut Below

By Halo1952 |

We went to this place with my son and family and were looking forward to a great steak from all the reviews we had read. I am sad to review that what we were served was not worth the price $$ we paid. When I pay $50.00 for a steak then I assume I will get a great steak. I ordered the Filet Minion Med/Rare it was that but it was grainy and the flavor just wasn't there. We had a side order of Au Gratin Cauliflower and it too was sub par on the flavor. The dinner rolls were very tough. My wife ordered the NY Strip and it also had a less than juicy taste. I was disappointed with our meal. My granddaughter ordered Lobster/Steak and I tasted the Lobster and it was very rubbery. I don't believe I will be visiting again.

Great steak. But truffle chips tops them all. Even the salads are delicious.

By Cycle_Enthusiast |

My partner ordered medium rare steak. Came out medium, so he sent back. Not great as they should know how to get a steak cooked right... however the wait staff were apologetic and we were compensated accordingly. Valerie the waitress was excellent. Go here if your other half wants steak but you fancy something lighter... it still caters for that too. Lovely ambience and comfortable too. Keep room for the truffle chips....

Birthday dinner for two

By Megan P |

Our dinner was amazing! We went out for my husbands birthday and this was his pick. He wanted a great steak and he got it. I had said it was his birthday in the reservation and as soon as we were greeted the staff was telling him happy birthday. When we got to our table there was a card and confetti. We ordered the double cut bacon as an appetizer and it was superb. Our mains were the Kona crusted strip and the porcini rubbed ribeye with balsamic. For sides we got the truffle fries, lobster Mac and cheese, and the asparagus. The steak was excellent and so were all the sides. The service was second to none. We wanted for nothing. As a surprise they brought out dessert and champagne as a treat for both of us. It was an amazing night.

Great Experience

By Karyn R |

Stopped for lunch here during a Sisters trip. Our lucky day! We had “Mike” for our waiter! His suggestions made our experience delightful. Highly recommend!

Great Food! Great Service!

By LoveMyGators |

The food was delicious! The service was amazing- Devon was a great waiter. The only disappointing part was being seated in a small back room with a handful of tables even with a reservation. I made a New Years Eve reservation a month early and expected to be seated in the main dining room.

Amazing

By Jagdish M |

What a brilliant experience. The Fillet Mignion was perfectly seared and a perfect Medium Rare. The service was impeccable with a lot of attention to detail

Great Near North Gem

By Raphael L |

Had an unexpected visit to this restaurant and found it to be fabulous. Great table service by Paul, with full explanation of dishes and sizing. Martinis, wine, salad, salmon and sides of spinach and aoli fries were all great. It was a great being back after an absence of years, and I can only encourage others to drop in, as I too will as well. Great setting, ambience, service and food. Bravo!

One of the Better Chains

By MarshBruce |

Attentive service with a varied American food menu. Lots of choices. An excellent wine selection. Attractive interior. This restaurant seems to continue to improve during the past few years. I just wish the steaks were a little higher quality. Not inexpensive.

Outstanding!

By Vito G |

We went with a family of 7 - five adults and two children under the age of nine. The waiter could not have been kinder to the children. He explained their menu options and answered their questions. Good news for all was the children were well behaved. The waiter gave the adults the same excellent service. He took his time with everyone. He and the assistant waiters were very attentive and courteous. The food was outstanding. Each meal was cooked to perfection. I could go on and on, but suffice it to say it was not our first time there and it will not be our last.

Fantastic restaurant

By Gail Gilmour |

I had the best night in this beautiful restaurant. My husband had let them know it was my birthday and there was confetti on the tables and the brought out a dessert plate with happy birthday written on it. The food was amazing, the staff were fantastic. By far my favourite meal of my full trip to Chicago. Thank you for a memorable evening.

Outstanding!

By Joe L |

Amazing from the moment we entered the restaurant. The different breads hit the spot the pumpernickel was our favorite. Appetizers great, and the steaks perfect I would highly recommend the Kona rubbed New York outstanding. Our server Jake did a great job. Capital Grill is a must.

Anniversary dinner

By roy h |

This was a truly Amazing experience. The service from the bar to the table was outstanding. It was a perfect spot for a great evening dinner. Make sure to get reservations early. The Long Island iced teas are amazing as well as the steaks and chops.

Sophisticated restaurant

By Janeta |

It is so relaxing going to Capital Grille because they have really nice music in the background. The food is delicious (try the Lobster Salad) and the service is attentive. They know their wines and recommend a great one to go with your meal. I enjoyed the ambiance and the fact that they have white table cloths.

Nice Steak and Atmosphere

By MaumelleJim |

I was there with a group and all of the food was very nice in appearance and tasted very good. The filet mignon was very good and cooked as ordered. The waiter was concerned with the delivery of the meals and the manager was present to make sure things went well. It was obvious that a good manager was around. It is what I'd expect for the price.

Best meal and service I've had in a really long time - went above and beyond

By Gene S |

Came here with a small group of people to celebrate a college graduation and they really did an excellent job of capping off a great day. The service was on point with glasses constantly filled and our server on hand whenever we needed anything. Here is the way you know someone and someplace know what they are doing. The service magically flows with the evening and the food and drink appear on time and without any issues or incident and just seamlessly become part of the event. I know how better to explain it but Rebecca did a great job anticipating our needs and there isn't any way the meal could have been any better. The staff went out of their way to ensure we had a great table and went above and beyond to provide some decorations for graduation and raised the bar to an 11 for any celebratory meal we'll have in the future. If you want to have an over the top excellent celebratory meal; look no further. This is THE place to go and we'll be back for the next event.

Excellent experience

By Twila B |

We had a great meal with great service. Mike was wonderful and helped us pick a perfect wine. Appetizers were the buffalo salad and prosciutto wrapped mozzarella - both were excellent. We had the filet and south African lobster tails. The creme brule was also excellent. I rarely say excellent in a review as we are foodies but it truly was.

Happy Anniversary

By Jujulps |

Let me start by saying what an amazing experience we had at Capital Grille Once we arrived and gave our name. They immediately wished us a Happy Anniversary. We were walked to our table where a hand written note and a table of heart confetti was on the table. So sweet!! Our server Kelly was so professional explained the menu and specials. She also explain the wine. Per glass or bottle. We started off with wine and my husband order a bowl of clam chowder and I had the Pear salad. It was awesome. Now for dinner I ordered the Filet Mignon 10oz medium. And my husband ordered the lamb chops. We shared asparagus and potatoes au gratin. The food was to die for. Steak was perfect temperature. Shortly the manager walked over and wished us a Happy Anniversary also. We felt so special. We both had cappuccinos, then Kelly walked over with Champagne and dessert on the house. What else can you ask for. Please go visit this amazing restaurant. Hopefully your get Kelly. Tell her the Medina's said thank you again for a special Anniversary.

Very nice place.

By Jerry K |

Nice restaurant to celebrate any kind of anniversary. They treat you very well. And food is awesome.

Wonderful meal

By Brad T |

Enjoyed a great business meal at Capital Grille last night. The wait staff was impeccable, and the food was prepared perfectly. The filet we had was incredible as a 10oz piece, thick and cooked to perfection. The wedge salad is an all time favorite and was outstanding as well. There is simply nothing I have to say with any vein of negativity. When I'm back in Chicago, I'll be stopping there again!

Celebration

By Desiree K |

My significant other & I had dinner last night in downtown Chicago after the Chicago marathon. The ribeye, fillet with cognac sauce, lobster Mac n cheese & wild mushrooms were unbelievably delicious! Best dinner out! Dan Hymel our waiter gave us exceptional service with complimentary champagne & anniversary desert! Would definitely return. Truly the best food & service!

Capital Grill is indeed “Capital “

By mary c |

This top rated steak house in Chicago has earned its stars. The decor quietly elegant- perfect for both a special occasion of a weary traveler needing an “ ahhhh” moment. Accommodating to both intimate dining and families- it was both welcoming and warm. Wait staff were knowledgeable and friendly. Service impeccable. Every plate was a treat for both the eyes and the palate. Wine list extensive and well varied options for a glass. They do allow corking if cannot finish bottle. We enjoyed the Ahi tuna appetizer, and various steaks. All very well portioned. The rare filet was perfect. The sides are shareable- we loved the brussel sprouts. Sadly we had no room for desserts- a cause to return.

Great service, super ingredients, and top wine menu

By tkloever |

This was one excellent experience and by far the best one for this time in our 3 day holiday in Chicago. This restaurant holds the high quality in all the expected parts of going to this high quality restaurant. This is a real steak house where quality of cooking and ingredients exceed our spoiled pallet! The wine choices by glass was also excellent and made us pair perfect the dishes we ate. Will definitely recommend Capital Grille to people appreciating the top quality place

Great steak and dinner place

By Kenneth J |

Wonderful food and service. The ribeye was cooked and seasoned perfectly. We tried several sides and each was wonderful. I would highly recommend it.

Fabulous Experience

By Lynn M |

More often than not these covid days it is hard to get good service at any restaurant. Not so at the Capital Grill. From the moment we were seated, we were well attended. Whether water glasses were quietly refilled, to dirty dishes being removed. Subtle but exceptional. Paul, our waiter, easily answered our questions, made suggestions, and seemed to appear out of no where to top off our wine. He definitely was one of the reasons we al enjoyed our dinner. The food was outstanding and did not disappoint. Our steaks were cooked to perfection and the creamed spinach and lobster mac and cheese were more than enough for three of us to share. We were surprised when Paul brought us a birthday treat at the end of our meal, with was beautifully presented and delicious.

One of the best CG in the US

By YoshiDus |

We visited 3 times for dinner in a short period of time while in town for business. We were always very satisfied with the food and service. The striploin had the correct temperature every time and tasted excellent. We have been to a lot of different Capital Grilles around the US and this is definitely one of the best. The service by Blake P. was very special. She went the extra mile for us. Also the manager Demi S. was very attentive and welcoming. We will definitely come back.

Happy Bride To Be!

By Krystal M |

A special thank you to our waiter, Devon. A group of us ladies decided to go out for an elegant dinner to celebrate a ‘Bride To Be’, and Capital Grille certainly delivered! From start to finish, Devon and his team were attentive, informative and patient. I know I did not say this enough, but thank you so much again for the perfectly themed table decor, round of bubbly and beautifully assorted dessert plates. The Bride To Be was blown away and felt like a VIP guest. Needless to say, but our group will be happy to dine here again in the future!

Gorgeous food - stunning restaurant!

By MiaM0410 |

This restaurant far exceeded our expectations. Food and service from David both exceptional. Made our trip thank you.

Delicious steak but the seafood takes the crown

By John |

Dine semi-frequently at this location. The vibe is exactly what I look for in a steakhouse (Morton's is too dark and aspirationally luxurious and Chicago Cut seems better suited for a casual Italian place) and the cuts are at the quality that one comes to expect from The Capital Grille. However, the seafood dishes really shine through, especially in a city where the seafood is notoriously subpar. Beware of giant appetizer portions overtaking stomach space. Friendly service.

Excellent and much better than in Fort Worth

By David M |

One of the best steaks I remember. We had the steak of the day. An on-the-bone 16oz steak with a dry rub that was really good. Cooked perfectly and pre-sliced for us. Two steaks with two sides was plenty for three of us to share. Service is with passion and really professional. For desert, you need to have the cheesecake. It’s REALLY good!

Father’s Day Dinner , great food and service. We can always count on The Capital Grill to provide a great meal.

By T D |

We decided to have a birthday lunch, something more relaxing. The Capital Grille is always a favorite with us and the person, that waits on us is excellent, she makes dining so enjoyable, and we appreciate the high level of service. Service, food and staff was great.

First Rate. Can I give them 6 stars?

By Cathy E |

From the welcome, to the table decorations, to dessert, we were very comfortable and treated first class all evening while we celebrated our 30th Anniversary. Our waiter, Ralph, was super; charming but not intrusive. He helped our evening truly be the best celebration that we’ve ever had at a restaurant. We were seated in a booth, which they decorated for our occasion. The cocktails were perfect. The meal (we did some sharing) was French Onion soup, Beet Salad with mixed greens and goat cheese, bone-in rib eye, sautéed onions/mushrooms, and spinach with garlic. Everything was perfectly done, and all of the servings were generous. (We have another meal from the leftovers.) I truly can’t rate our experience at Capital Grille high enough. It was our first dinner there, but it won’t be our last. Make a reservation, and go there for a nice evening out.

Outstanding Experience!

By Grandcru05 |

We made reservations for a small group to celebrate a birthday and had one of the best restaurant experiences we have had in years! Though not requested, we were seated in a private room. Confetti decorations were strewn across the table and birthday wishes were hand-written to the special someone. The food was outstanding (filets, salmon, side dishes and desserts), the service attentive and personalized, and the ambiance a perfect balance of energizing while not overbearing. From the minute we arrived at the restaurant, we were treated by every employee as if we were the only customers in the restaurant. Highly recommended!

If you are looking for a steak house, look no further. This restaurant was chosen based on the rating on OpenTable, and we were not disappointed. While our reservations were for 8:00pm and we got there at 7:40pm (coat check room a plus), we were seated at 8:20pm, BUT the delay was to accommodate my request for a "quiet" area of the restaurant. We were seated in the Wine Room - a small 8 table room off the main dining room that was well worth the wait. Our server, Diego, was one of the best and most attentive servers I have ever had. Warm, welcoming, and very accommodating to our request for a slow and relaxing dinner. We started with a bottle of Hess "Allomi" which was a nice surprise to see on the wine list. We started with a wonderful shrimp cocktail (5 pieces) served on a large bed of ice with a cheese cloth wrapped lemon (nice touch) and cocktail sauce. The Clam Chowder was nicely done (sand included, but understandable with the amount of clams in the soup). The Mushroom Bisque soup was very flavorful, creamy, and smooth. The entree was a special that was an 8 oz Filet with a 6-8 oz South African Lobster Tail - we decided to split the entree and include an extra Lobster Tail which was just the right amount of "surf and turf" for us. We also ordered a small order of green beans - which were "ok". We thought a bit too under done (crunchy). The chef included an order of mashed potatoes on the house. The meal was great and each course was order and brought at our request - no rushing by Diego or the restaurant. For dessert, we ordered the Key Lime Pie (with pistachios on top) that came with Chantilly cream and a red sauce garnish and the Coconut Cream Pie that came overflowed with Chantilly Cream that buried the Coconut Cream Pie so much so that the cream was used in the Kona Coffee that was also ordered with dessert. Overall, if you could pick one restaurant in Chicago for a special dinner, you cannot go wrong with an evening at the Capital Grille!

Highly recommend!

This is one of the best restaurants I've been to. The food and drinks were amazing, plus their service was super nice!

Capital Grille always exceeds expectations!

By Bobbie W |

We always have a consistently wonderful experience at Capital Grillr. Food is always delicious and service is impeccable. The generous pour is one of our favorite events and it never disappoints. Olivia was our server tonight and she went above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful dining experience. We also had amazingly kind folks dining in the 40’s room, which made the experience even more pleasant

Expensive; pushy wait staff; just ok service. Better food at Joe’s Steak and Seafood for similar cost

By Mot9 |

An extremely expensive menu with a wait staff pushing everyone at the table to the most expensive items. Example: I asked for a glass of Sauvignon blanc. The waiter, also supposedly the sommelier, said “we have a very good Sancerre. It’s French.” No kidding. No, please the Sauvignon Blanc. “The Sancerre is the same and very good.” I’d like the Sauvignon blanc PLEASE. (Sancerrre $27; Sauvignon blanc $17 — and obviously they are not nearly the same taste.) Just one example. Lump crab cocktail was just limp. Very good lobster cakes. Medium rare bone-in filets three of us ordered all came out rare to raw. Scallops with lobster and asparagus risotto was mixed. Very good scallops and mediocre risotto — undercooked and dry. All in all a tourist/business trap on a busy Friday evening on the near north side of Chicago.

Exceptional service & atmosphere

By TheCatLady21 |

We visited The Capital Grille recently based on excellent TA reviews and were not disappointed. Elegant decor and tables were nicely spaced. Service was slick and exceptional by our lovely, personable waiter, Tyler. Complimentary bread basket was delicious which accompanied the French onion soup starters. Good selection of steak, making it difficult to choose - we opted for their special dry aged NY Strip and bone-in Ribeye, both amazing. Large portions of sides included Parmesan truffle fries, also delicious. Lovely ambience, would highly recommend a visit to this beautiful restaurant.

Friendly staff and delicious food

By GiF70 |

Lovely high end feel, with friendly staff. Kelly was so helpful and professional. Large portions so really good they do smaller sizes and that we could split the steak. Loved the clam chowder, French onion soup and bone in rib eye. Delicious

Great, as always at Capital Grille!

By marc7704 |

Beautiful interior, excellent service and extremely good food. Both the oysters and the NY strip steak were excellent. A really great evening!

A MUST

By Monica Hughes |

I am not sure where to start. The service, food, atmosphere - all 10/10. I got the tuna steak and my boyfriend got a steak. Both were cooked perfectly, served quickly, and tasted delicious. The next time I am back in Chicago I will 100% be going to The Capital Grille.

Nice relaxing night

By jancy r |

Nice and traditional fine steak restaurant. After eating in another fine steak restaurant ( STK Cicago), were we were very disappointed with the service and the food, we get here (capital grill) to have some Martinis and Johnny’s black, our server, Scott, was amazing. He make us feel way much better and his service 100%+. Also we taste their signature drink, the Stoli Doli Martini and it was really good and the key lime pie, delicious. We didn’t have more days in Chicago so we couldn’t have dinner there in CG.

Excellent on all counts

By StephenCross |

The capital grille is a top class restaurant and the steaks are absolutely amazing. Service and ambiance also excellent. Recommended.

Lovely Staff

By GeneralHartsfield |

Many years ago a dear friend told me of her visit to The Capital Grille and how she loved it. I had been wanting to visit, but somehow never made it until recently. I totally concur with my friends' assessment. It was a great lunching experience and the food was very good. There was a charmingly chic lady at the door that added to the atmosphere. My visit was for lunchtime, but I wouldn't mind returning for supper as I can imagine that the evening atmosphere would be very nice. I should mention that they make their own Grapefruit soda and it's very good.

Top-Notch Service, Perfect Atmosphere – A Proposal to Remember!

By Bozena V |

I had the absolute pleasure of being part of Joshua and Genesis’s proposal dinner at The Capital Grille, and WOW—what an unforgettable experience! From the moment we walked in, everything was flawless. The ambiance was classy and warm, and the entire team went above and beyond to make the evening feel truly special. The level of care and professionalism was top-notch. A huge shoutout goes to Angie, our server—she was incredible! Angie was attentive, friendly, and so easy to talk to. She made us feel at home while still delivering polished, five-star service. She anticipated our needs before we even had to ask, and brought the perfect mix of warmth and professionalism. Honestly, she’s one of the best servers I’ve ever had. She made the night extra special and unforgettable. Also, Chef Keith—wow. The food was out of this world! Every dish was cooked to perfection, full of flavor, and beautifully presented. You could taste the passion and skill in every bite. Chef Keith truly delivered an outstanding meal that matched the magic of the evening. A big thank you as well to Amanda, the manager, for overseeing such a smooth and beautiful night. Everything from service to food to atmosphere was on point. If you're looking for the perfect place to celebrate something special—or just want an incredible meal—The Capital Grille is the place to go. I can’t wait to come back!

Fabulous anniversary dinner

By Piccolo |

My husband and I were in Chicago for business, but combined our trip with our 34th wedding anniversary celebration. I noted this online when I made the reservation. When we got there, we were greeted and congratulated on the event! Our table was ready in a smaller room on the side. There was a lovely card and small hearts as table decorations. Our server was Diego and he was the best server we have probably ever had. He has a warm smile and demeanor and immediately makes you comfortable and assures you that the evenings will be perfect. He offered us a lovely complimentary champagne toast and took our picture, and assured he would do the same when we got our dessert, which he did. Delicious warm bread and butter are also served. We ordered the wedge salads and asked that they be chopped - it is a great salad with bacon and blue cheese. My husband got a steak which he was able to cut with a butter knife and I got lobster. Both were terrific - we also ordered the au gratin potatoes as a side dish to share. We finished almost everything - the potatoes are a very generous serving. I’m glad we didn’t get anything else or it would have been too much. Diego followed up with our complimentary dessert on a decorated tray - a serving of regular cheesecake and a flourless chocolate dessert (I think). It is flawless service - yes, it’s a bit pricey…..our bill was about $200 before the tip, but it was well worth it for this special occasion. If you want a special evening of any kind, don’t hesitate to come here!

Always reliably excellent

Outstanding service, first quality food, nice ambiance, consistently enjoyable...highly recommended - tried several of their locations and never disappointed

One of my favorites

By FoodTraveler . |

One of my favorite places to go. Food was great! Our waiter was awesome. Highly recommend the brussel sprouts. I had the waygu strip and it may have been the best steak I've ever eaten. We will definitely be back!

Delicious meal

Tasty food, great ambiance, friendly staff. Good wine list. Didn't need reservation. It was my nephew's birthday and we had a lovely night.

3rd time there

Never been much of a fan. Food is good but I'm not crazy about the ala cart menu. Ambiance is great of course but location is by Northwestern Hospital and parking sux!

Front and back of the house: very sharp

By IllinoisFamilydude |

Spent a wonderful evening at The Capital Grille in downtown Chicago with my wife and two carnivorous sons. We enjoy fine dining and this was our first trip to Capital Grille. We arrived early for our reservation and took a seat at the bar. I channeled my inner Don Draper and ordered an Old Fashioned. The cocktail was mixed perfectly, nicely balanced and attractively garnished. The bar staff was attentive and prompt. The décor is a more modern take on a typical steak house. While there was a nice buzz from the dining room the tables were spaced far enough apart to easily move through the space and feel you could converse freely without having to shout over other guests to be heard. The kitchen offered an amuse bouche which was nicely presented. The wine list is extensive with a great selection of both new and old world varietals. Wine by the glass is also available. Bread service was prompt and offered a nice selection which tasted freshly prepared. We chose NE clam chowder and shrimp cocktail. The chowder was deeply flavored and very silky. Shrimps were chilled and nicely seasoned. I would have preferred a little more bite to the cocktail sauce. My wife had the French onion soup. This version which was based on veal stock just exploded with flavor and was balanced nicely with cheese topping which tasted more of parmesan rather than gruyere. Salads were crisp and nicely dressed. Entrees included surf and turf, ribeye steak and seared tuna. The steaks were some of the best I have eaten. They were cooked perfectly and seasoned beautifully. The tuna was properly cooked as well. Desserts were pretty standard for a steak house but well executed. The front of the house staff is very well trained and make dining a real pleasure. The back waiters moved effortlessly removing dishes and refilling water. They were attentive but not obtrusive. The service appeared effortless. I like the idea of the waiter presenting their business card to you with the check so you can recognize them by name in the future or drop a note to the general manager if you so desire. Overall, a wonderfully complete dining experience. As a student of the culinary arts I appreciate how difficult it can be to manage the front and back of the house. The Capital Grille will definitely make my short list for steakhouse fine dining.

Always consistent food and service

By steve s |

My wife and I did a "share" evening. We shared a salad; shared a porterhouse steak and shared sides. Service and advice on wine selection was first class. We will definitely reserve thru/with Scott, if/when we return.

We loved it.

By Juan Antonio Lavin |

We really liked the atmosphere of the place and the food was delicious. We ordered a steak with bone and honestly it was delicious! Mike's service was EXCELLENT. He made the recommendation.

Lost in the goodness

By Chris W |

The seasoning and presentation of each dish is fantastic. I had only high praise from the bread and appetizers to the dessert. We loved the Ahi Tartar, with avocado and wasabi. The crab and lobster cakes were divine. The sauce was perfect. I had the bone in rib-eye that had an amazing dry rub that made it both melt in the mouth good but very savory. I used some creamy horseradish with it for that little kick. The sides were incredible too. We did asparagus, whipped potatoes, and the best roasted brussel sprout with bacon and glaze ever. I enjoyed the key lime pie as well. The service was top shelf, of course.

Great service, wine and food

By jaimeleigh12 |

I had a great meal with excellent service! I did the Generous Pour wine tasting along with my meal and Mike was a wealth of knowledge about the wines being offered! He and everyone I came into contact with provided top notch service. My steak was cooked perfectly and the sides were delicious (mashed potatoes and sautéed spinach). I will definitely come back when I am in town again!

Couldn’t Fault It!!!

By Persecutor |

This was our 3rd visit to Chicago and our first since 2019 and when deciding on dining options we chose Capital Grille although we hadn’t visited on our previous trips. On entering a great looking building after a short walk from our hotel we were met by polite and friendly staff who promptly showed us to our table after first asking if we preferred a table or a booth. Our waiter Joe was extremely friendly, efficient and attentive and nothing seemed like a problem as he took us through the menu and specials for the evening. For some reason he even knew it was my birthday next week ( more on that later!!!). We chose the lobster and crab cakes to share as a starter which was delicious and our steaks to follow were both cooked to perfection and some of the best we have ever tasted. Both were washed down with an excellent bottle of wine from an extensive selection. And to the dessert menu, well whilst we had a chance to view we didn’t have an opportunity to choose as Joe turned up with a couple of options to share together with a candle and happy birthday plate. He also took a photo which later appeared in a card to wish me a Happy Birthday. All in all we had great evening in a fantastic restaurant with outstanding food and service which we will definitely return to in the future and would recommend to anyone who is looking for a quality dining experience. Keep up the great work…..

A Wonderful Experience

By OTM330 |

We celebrated my husband’s 45th birthday here. We made reservations an hour in advance and when we arrived my husband had a hand written birthday card and a decorated table awaiting his arrival. We received complimentary champagne, desert, and an appetizer. The service was impeccable and the staff was very attentive. Two managers stopped by our table to say happy birthday as well. The food was delicious. My favorite dish was the lamb chops.

Great Holiday Outing!!

By WOsloop_ORD |

Had a great dinner at Capital Grille to say a big thank you to a friend! This location is not huge, so at prime weekend dinner time, during the holidays, this place was crowded and running late. But our wait was only 15 minutes and our hostesses were a real treat (had to provide ID, LOL)! But the food was great as usual!! Shrimp appetizer, lobster crab burger (from bar menu), New York Strip!! And the service, from valet to hosts to bartender to waitstaff were a pleasure!! Will be back!!

Great restaurant

By John |

Great experience. The food was good, and the service was excellent. Our server recommended the lobster bisque which was excellent, followed by a ribeye steak. Highly recommended.

Mike — Wonderful!

By Kristine R |

Mike, our server was exceptionally wonderful. Very personable and fun! Recommended some really great dishes!

Amazing Experience!

By Quest64487145709 |

I had a fantastic experience at the bar here. From the moment I walked in, the staff was attentive, welcoming, and genuinely friendly. Jasmine, the bartender, was excellent, and the chef, Patrick, even came out to personally check in and make sure I was enjoying my meal, a thoughtful touch that really stood out. The lobster and crab cake is a standout and a must-order. Adam, the manager, was incredibly personable and made sure everything was perfect throughout my visit. You can truly tell that this restaurant and its team care deeply about their guests. Highly recommend—this will definitely be a place I return to and may just become my new regular spot. A must try!

I really want to give it 4.5 Stars

By Mark D |

I really liked this restaurant. I want to give it 5 stars, but there was just something about it, especially compared to the likes of Steak 48 or Bavette's, or even Joe's that left me feeling a little underwhelmed. There was nothing wrong with it, it's just that it didn't have the feeling inside that those other restaurants do. Connie, our server, was definitely 5 star. Friendly, and very attentive. My steak and lobster tail were both very good. Perfectly cooked and tender. My wife's Seabass was also very good. Drinks were a little on the puny size for the price, but otherwise good. If you have not been here, I would say go, especially if you are close to the restaurant, but in my opinion there are some better choices around town

Great Experience!

By Marylee S |

I visited The Capital Grille last week and enjoyed lunch with my family. The ambience of the place is quite pleasing, and the service was top-notch.

Dinner

By Knapcoach |

All in all it was a nice experience. The service was great and there was no pressure. We were in town for my wife's birthday and thought wed check it out. We both got seafood with lobster/crab cakes for an appetizer. The crab cakes were great however, the entrees fell short of our expectations. We will visit again, next time we will order something other than seafood.

Excellent in very respect

By Thomas K |

We love Capital Grille and this one meets or exceeds the high standard. Service was incredible. Up there with the best service we have experienced. The drinks were excellent as was the food. The butternut Squash soup was incredible. The Lamb Chops equally great as were the steaks the rest of our group had. All cooked perfectly as requested. 5 stars all around.

Fantastic Steaks

By John P |

Well located just off of The Magnificent Mile. Menu has lots of nice options… Oysters as a starter were excellent. Peppered New York strip perfectly cooked, great wine cellar … service was excellent

Great steakhouse on the magnificent mile

By Lucie C |

Perfectly cooked medium and medium/rare filet mignon. Mike the sommelier suggested the best Cabernet. He was attentive and knowledgeable. A pleasure for our visit. We will go back.

Excellent eating experience and delicious cuisine!

By Sarjan S |

I was quite impressed when I had dinner here. The seafood pasta I had was flavorful and came in generous servings. The lasagna, which was rich in flavor and expertly constructed, was what my partner ordered. There were some excellent wine selections on the list that went well with our meals. Everything arrived promptly, and the service was pleasant. A great place for a leisurely, good supper - we will most certainly return!

Business trip to Chicago

By dave81967 |

I had an amazing lunch thanks to my waiter who is a sommelier « Mike Dietrich » who advised me for having a great ribeye meat medium rare with a wine paring from California « Faust ». This wine is not a damnation as the opera but instead an excellent tasting experience. Will be back for sure Strong advise for taste lovers

The restaurant was absolutely incredible

By Frag |

The restaurant was absolutely incredible, but what truly made our dinner experience exceptional was our waiter, Mike. His recommendations were spot on, and his professionalism and attentiveness truly elevated the enjoyment of our meal and overall experience. His expertise and friendly demeanor made us feel welcomed and taken care of throughout the entire evening. We are grateful for his outstanding service, and it's because of him that we'll definitely be coming back for more memorable dining experiences.

Great Steakhouse now out in the suburbs

Excellent food and service. Good wine list. Pricey but expected with this quality. Not overpriced for the quality don't misunderstand. High marks in all areas. Great kitchen and the wait staff and exceptional

What a Steak House should be!

By Food Attorney |

Dress is casual or business casual. I wore jeans and a sweater. Everything was perfect. I had a Bombay Sapphire martini with blue cheese olives, a lump crab cocktail which was packed ($22), Caesar salad ($12), 10 oz. Filet ($52), Parmesan Truffle oil Fries ($12), and a glass of Cabernet. Ralph, my server, as well as the other staff were top shelf. One of the best meals I’ve had!

Great steaks

By Thomas A |

Very nice restaurant in a good location. The food is great and I can definitely recommend the sirloin. Staff is friendly and accommodating.

Great experience except the dress code

By Tatie XQ1 |

My wife decided to take me to celebrate my birthday to a fancy dinner at Capital Grille. We were greeted warmly and seated right away. Ambiance was great and staff were very nice. The manager came over and gifted our table with a complimentary bottle of Purple Heart wine. Delicious by the way. We ordered the lobster and crab cake for the appetizer. It was delicious. Main entrees included New York strip (medium), lobster mac and cheese. All were great. My wife had the maple seared salmon and it also was decadent. Our server was great and made sure we had room for the complimentary desert. Unfortunately the restaurant doesnt enforce the business casual dress code and that doesn't really fit the atmosphere of the restaurant. Other than that everything was great.

Great steak

By romeobravo37 |

First time in Chicago. Had a great rib eye steak for late lunch. The service is 5 star. Sorry i forgot the waiter's name but he is funny and can recommend us where to go for a day trip in Chicago.

Anniversary Dinner

Birthday Celebration at the Capital Grill

By jwineeng |

This was another outstanding evening at the Capital Grill. We arrived early and were promptly greeted by Demi who told us it would be a few minutes while our table in the Wine Room was being prepared. We were directed to grab a seat at the bar and we order drinks. Within 10 minutes, Demi herself personally came to us to seat us in the Wine Room and even carried our drinks to our table (that impressed my wife). When we arrived at our table, it was decorated with confetti and with a Birthday Card for both my wife and me (our birthdays are within days of each other). Dinner in the Wine Room was handled by Joe, our wonderful waiter for the evening. He was very prompt with every detail. We ordered a bottle of wine, Hess Allomi, which was wonderful. For an appetizer, we ordered the Crab Cocktail, and it was wonderful - plenty of crab for two people. We then order the Clam Chowder which was great - full of clams with a rich creamy base. For dinner, we each order the Filet with Lobster - my wife order the 10oz Filet with a whole poached Lobster and drawn butter, and I order the Filet with grilled Lobster dinner (smaller 6oz Filet with two Lobster halves - slightly cheaper, but no less in quality or taste than my companion's dinner. Lastly, we were each treated to an on-the-house candle-lit "Happy Birthday" dessert tray of a small cheese cake and a flourless chocolate cake. We also order coffee to complete the dessert and evening. If you are looking for a Special Occasion night out, look no further than the Downtown Chicago Capital Grill. They will treat you like royalty, and leave you wanting to return the next day. (Thank you, Demi & Joe for making this a special night to remember! :) )

Alcapone's painting presides over the room, imagine the rest!

An excellent choice for downtown Chicago. Very local and traditional atmosphere, careful service. Waiters wear aprons like before. The room is magnificent and with very high ceilings. I really enjoyed it.

Evening with my American cousins

By Miciobello77 |

Very nice and refined place, 300 meters from Grand Central Station, on Park Avenue. I was a guest, but I took a look at the prices, aligned with the reality of Manhattan. I had a steak with a gorgonzola cream on top and a cabernet reduction, the other filet mignon. I did not take appetizers, some had a salad, others burrata. Also excellent desserts. Thoughtful and kind staff.

Cocktail Night. Sophistication. Pleasant experience.

By PaulVanHalteren |

This raining Wednesday evening called for a sophisticate ambiance "North American" bar. The Capital Grille did exactly that. Our bar tender cocktail master, Brayan V did exactly that. Passion Fruit Mojito and Kona Expresso Maertini. Perfect mood lifter when it is gloomy outside. Gracias por compartir recuerdos de Guatemala y de Baleares

Great food and atmosphere

By Andrea M |

We know the Capital Grille from NYC, that's why we decided to dine here. The service was excellent and the food superb. On the pricier side though.

We must have come on an off night.

By SUANNE L |

We went to celebrate a milestone anniversary which we informed the resturant when we made the reservation. When we arrived, our table was strewn with confetti hearts and a nice happy anniversary card. It went down hill from there. At other CG’s on special occasions we received a complimentary cocktail, an amuse bouche and dessert. Not here. Service was very slow. The lobster bisques, which is usually fantastic was not so good. Beet salad side was way more lettuce than beets. We had to wait about 20 minutes for our entree. When they came one order was burnt and inedible. We did point this out and were rewarded with the entree cost removed and a gift card to cover another entree at a later time. This was appreciated, however it still was a disappointing meal.

Amazing anniversary dinner

By Ole |

Me and my girlfriend went here for our anniversary dinner and it was the best choice we could have made. The service was outstanding, the food was delicious and the overall experience was just the best we could have asked for. This restaurant is an amazing choice as it is, and they really went out of their way to make our anniversary a special one!

Welcome home!

By Taylor B |

My wife and I are life-long Chicagoans and we have celebrated several birthdays, anniversaries and special events at the Capital Grille in downtown Chicago, which is within walking distance of our Gold Coast home. Located at 633 North St. Clair Street, at Ontario, a block east of the Magnificent Mile, it was our obvious choice for dinner after returning home from a week-long vacation trip to Charleston, South Carolina. In fact, we didn't even unpack our luggage before leaving for dinner at the Capital Grille. Over the years, we have dined at Capital Grilles in Lombard, Rosemont, Schaumburg, Phoenix, Denver, Washington DC, Sarasota, Tampa, Indianapolis, Boston, Las Vegas and Milwaukee. But this is our 10th visit to the downtown Chicago location. Convenient location, impeccable service, Michelin-like food, classic surroundings. We are never disappointed, always exhilarated. On this occasion, we started with shrimp cocktail, bowls of New England clam chowder and lobster bisque and Caesar salad with croutons. For her entree, my wife chose a 10-ounce filet mignon with sauteed spinach and Sam's mashed potatoes. I ordered the house's signature steak, a Porcini rubbed bone-in ribeye with 15-year aged balsamic and Porcini mushroom crust with au gratin potatoes and roasted wild mushrooms. For dessert, we shared a large slice of coconut cream pie and a large portion of classic creme brulee. For us, a visit to the Capital Grille in downtown Chicago is like going to Wrigley Field and watching the Cubs win.

Excellent steakhouse

By Douglas C |

5 couples in for the Shamrock Game weekend in Chicago met here for a Thursday night dinner . Reservation was superbly handled the week before . The bartender was a pro and made seriously good drinks before we sat down . Our server was excellent and did a fine job of pacing the appetizers and entrees. Everyone loved their choices and the steaks came out as ordered. The rack of lamb was a hit with two in the group . We shared desserts all of which were excellent especially the creme brûlée. I think their price point is very good considering the rampant inflation we r experiencing. Breads were house made and very tasty. I have never been disappointed in any Capital Grill restaurant and this one was superb.

Everything was wonderful

By Christiano Alice |

A delightful lunch with prompt service. The bread was served warm and fresh, the french onion soup had overflowing melted cheese, and the steak and asparagus were absolutely delicious. Can’t wait to return!

Best food in a long time

The food was absolutely fantastic !!! The ladies had the best tuna steak ever and the rib eye and the New York strip was equally good. Service attentive and helpful. Only downside … cocktails were below average. Skip them and enjoy the food

Enjoyable Christmas Eve dinner

By LThomas1301 |

Dined on Christmas Eve with family of 5. Shaky start with overbooking at restaurant. Had to wait over 30 min for table but staff and management made up for it. Lovely evening with excellent service. Ribeye, surf and turf, crab cocktail, calamari and fries all very good. Accompanied wine made it better. They comped desserts and the server was attentive. A very enjoyable Christmas Eve dinner.

Stately Settings with Excellent Service

By benbmke |

I visited the Capital Grille for lunch with friends, and was impressed by how personal the service was. I chose a ahi tuna steak as my entree, which was a mistake- I found that I do not enjoy tuna, but my mom thought it was excellent. Besides this, the restaurant is conveniently located near many shopping destinations, and I was very happy with the experience I had here.

Delicious and also photogenic

Perfect 37th Anniversary Dinner

By TanEugene |

We were celebrating our 37th anniversary in Chicago and spent all day walking up and down Magnificent Mile ending with the Architecture River and Lake Michigan tour. The 90 minute tour ended up being 2.5 hours and we missed our reservation at another steakhouse. We went to Capital on a lark because it is right next to our hotel and it turned out to be the best decision ever!! We were seated quickly and graciously despite it being nearly a full house. Water was served and quickly followed with bread and butter. Then our very amiable server, Paul, came with menus and suggestions. He was kind, knowledgeable and not at all pushy - happy to let us take our time deciding on what we wanted. We knew what we wanted to eat, but were struggling on our wine choice. He very graciously let us have a taste of our options, and we ended with a very good Pinot. Our bone in ribeye to share was cooked to perfection - a very on point medium rare, with the perfect char and marbling, and stayed delicious from first bite to last. Our appetizer of burrata and heirloom tomatoes was generous and scrumptious. The sides of creamed corn with bacon and spinach with garlic were the perfect accompaniments to the steak. At the end of our meal, we were presented with complimentary dessert. Two very delicious and decadent offerings - a flourless dark chocolate and coffee cake with unsweetened whipped cream, and a brulee cheesecake made of ricotta and cream, both served with seasonal berries. Such a sweet and generous gesture to top off a perfect evening. We loved everything about Capital Grille, and we will surely be back the next time we are in Chicago.

The exception to the rule...

This place “ always” performs right at the top... Exceptional quality of food, exceptional service, and ambience... Got us right in on a last minute reservation for 6. Seriously, some of the best dining in town.. Get the seafood platter for appetizer.. pricey but worth it.. fed all 6 of us.. desserts were divine. 2017…

Very good experience

Place decorated with good taste. Excellent service from the staff, they were always attentive to any request, without being annoying. Dine on a Tomahawk with the exact finish you request, good quality of the cut of meat. We had a pleasant time, I recommend it

Great example of the upscale steak chain

By Andrew T |

We visited here for dinner whilst in Chicago, having had good experience at the same chain in Washington DC. The food is well sourced and fresh, including great steaks, fish and seafood choices. We chose a tuna tartare sharer, wagyu 22oz tomahawk steak to share. The tuna was silky and tender, the steak cooked to perfection and the sides of creamy mash and green beans also good. We ended the meal with signature desserts of coconut cream pie and cheesecake, these did not disappoint. Wine list is extensive and we chose a good Californian cabernet sauvignon. Our server Ralph was helpful and friendly. We recommend and will return.

Mmmmmmm delicious

I am still dreaming with the cheesecake... The staff of this restaurant is amazing, we have had a spectacular dinner here. Everything was delicious, mainly the meat dishes. It is the perfect restaurant to have dinner in the center of Chicago.

Lovely

Nice building, very attentive staff. Lovely Malbec glad we didn’t have a starter as our steaks and a shared potato gratin were more than enough. My wife had lobster with tenderloin, I had NY strip, very good. Breads were great too.

Excellent

Where you want to go to celebrate a special occasion

By Taylor B |

There are some outstanding steakhouse chains in this country but Capital Grille remains the gold standard with locations in 25 states. During our travels, my wife and I have visited Capital Grille locations in Denver, Washington DC, Sarasota, Tampa, Las Vegas and all four in the Chicago area. We've never been disappointed. This is where you want to go to celebrate a special occasion. We especially love the flagship Capital Grille at 633 North St. Clair Street in downtown Chicago, at Ontario, one block east of the Magnificent Mile shopping district. Open from 11:30 to 9 Monday through Thursday, 11:30 to 10 on Friday, 5 to 10 on Saturday and 5 to 9 on Sunday, it features impeccable service and posh surroundings and a clubby atmosphere that include white tablecloths, African mahogany paneling, Art Deco chandeliers, lots of rich leather and dark wood booths and furnishings. It all makes you feel like the chairman of the board. For starters, we had shrimp cocktail, New England clam chowder, lobster bisque and Caesar salad with Grana Padeno croutons. We normally adhere to a more fish/less meat philosophy when dining out. And my wife was tempted by the Chilean sea bass and pan-seared citrus glazed salmon. But this is a steakhouse so we opted for the chef's suggestions--sliced filet mignon with Cipollino onions, wild mushrooms and fig essance with sauteed spinach and Porcini rubbed bone-in ribeye with 15-year aged balsamic, signature steak sauce and porcini mushroom crust with Sam's mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. For dessert, we shared portions of coconut cream pie and Classic creme brulee. A fine dining experience unlike any other.

Extensive menu, good food (though not inexpensive), very attentive service. A quiet place, where you can actually hold a conversation with your companion(s).

Fantastic food and service

Absolutely fantastic. From the moment we arrived to leaving the service and food was exceptional. The staff were attentive and professional. The food was so well cooked. What a brilliant chef. We had such a lovely evening. Would definitely recommend.

Good steaks but extremely expensive

By Tere A |

For one, when making a reservation we asked to be seated by the window, and funny enough we had the window besides us with NO view given that's the entrance which has curtains. I mention this, because I felt a bit mislead. The food in general quite good, expected at a place like this, but not having had wine nor dessert found it very expensive.

Best steak in town. I do recommend

SUPERB!!!!

By Kayla U |

My husband and I have nonstop talked about this meal! This was our wedding night…and I put it in the special instructions when I made the reservation hoping to get a decent table. What we really got was EXTRAORDINARY service from the beginning! As soon as I said my name they knew we had just been married…the FOH manager escorted us to our table which was a great location in the restaurant. They brought us a complimentary champagne toast to celebrate. Anthony was our server and he was so attentive and kind. He did an amazing job! The cosmo was the best I have ever had, they really know how to make a drink! The food, we cant stop talking about the food. It was absolutely perfect….everything. You can tell how much they pay attention to little details. After our dinner they brought us complimentary desert and a printed photo. FOH manager also stopped by and congratulated us . This was one of those meals you do not forget and I so hope we are able to go back for our anniversary!!

Book it!

The food was delicious and the service was impeccable. We enjoyed this fine dining experience while on a quick trip to Chicago and will definitely return.

Unbelievable meal

By Kevin Heid |

We had an unbelievable meal with outstanding service. While I would guess a Sunday evening at 7pm is not a very busy time, I think they would provide great service anytime. Very helpful wait staff to guide you in decisions.

Great food and Great service

By swiftmi |

I enjoyed my business dinner here. I had the Snake Farms Wagyu filet and it was one of the best steaks I have had in my life. It was perfectly prepared and flavorful. Our group of shared 14 several sides and all were really good. The restaurant has a nice wine selection to pair with your meal. If I am back in this area I will be back.

Great food in Art Deco ambience

By Anke G |

Fantastic food in Art Deco ambience. Tip : good place at the window in a niche on the red sills . Starter grilled calamari with chili, then Rib Eye and a ladies cut. Add the frieze with truffle. The food was really awesome. Side dishes such as asparagus and mushroom were cooked. Wine list great , local beer from Chicago tasted very good with it . The waiters are incredibly nice , expert and approachable. A great evening!

As always excellent

One of the excellent grill places in Chicago, great wine list, excellent service. I had the fish and my wife the T-Bone both were great

Best Restuarant Experience Ever!!

By SolMan60 |

We have been lucky to have eaten at some of the best restaurants in the world and this is probably our best experience ever. Wife and I went to Chicago for our anniversary and booked dinner at Capitol Grill. From start to finish we were treated like gold. Myron was our waiter and he was the best, calm professional who exceeded all our expectations in every way. Everyone including the fine people who brought us our bread, water and even the guy who cleaned our table all wished us a happy anniversary, which is a first for us. Food was amazing and the best old fashioned I've had. I have eaten at Capitol Grills 5-6 times before and this one is the best....Management is the reason. We got to meet Demi, the manager and she was great! Demi even gave me the recipe for their old fashioneds. This Capitol Grill is top restaurant in Chicago and people like Demi and Myron are the reason. We will come back to Chicago just to eat here!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!

They didn't make it special.

By Robin F |

So dissapointed, the food was ok, nothing that special, we ate off the deal menu, salad, steak, spinach and mashed potato and then creme brulee for desert, so nothing that you haven't had a million other places. The sides were bland, the meat was very good though but the deserts were avarage. The trouble was the atmosphere was none existant, we told them it was a special occasision in advance and they did nothing to make it special for us (even though the tables around us had been given extra touches for similar reasons) and all in all it had a very conveyor belt feeling, I almost expected them to shout 'next' as we left. Our server even said we were the third couple at that table that evening and it felt like it. I can't fault the attentive service at all, but I do feel that for over. $200 (by the time 2 glasses of wine and 2 cocktails had been added to the bill) it just wasn't worth it. I have had much better food for much less, served with much more imagination and attention and in a better atmosphere elsewhere. Like I said, I left feeling very dissapointed.

Consistently excellent service and food

By Jigtin |

We always try to eat at the Capital Grille whenever we are in Chicago because the food and service are consistently excellent and this visit was no exception. We had a large group of 8 and our server did an excellent job of keeping up with our drinks and orders as well as the pace of the courses. I was also glad you could make me the Bohemian drink as it’s my favorite and no longer on the menu. Bring that back! Same with lobster bisque and baked potatoes. Should be standard on your menu. We were also celebrating our wedding Anniversary and the server brought us our complimentary champagne and dessert. Such a nice touch. It was the perfect meal for our group and great ending to our day.
