Ok steak, but overall experience not worth the price

By Stephen D |

One of the seemingly infinite number of steakhouses in center city Philadelphia. We chose the Capital Grille because it we were cold and it was close. I did not expect cheap but for $200 I expected a much better experience. The service wasn’t any better than a golden coral. The steak was ok but was not memorable. I keep falling back to $200 for a porterhouse steak, a small filet an order of sautéed spinach and 2 glasses of wine ordered from a touch screen (really a touch screen!) with poor inattentive service. At least Texas Roadhouse has peanuts and would have been less than half the price. I won’t return.

Amazing food

We came after the Army/Navy game. Our cadets were hungry and read to eat. The calamari was fantastic!! The steaks were cooked to perfection and the side were great. Our servers were great and very attentive.

Perfect place to celebrate

By audrey S |

We had lunch at the Capital Grille to celebrate my daughter's master's graduation. I had made reservations ahead of time online and when we arrived (earlier than expected) they seated us and our table had a congratulations card on the table signed by all the employees with star confetti on the table. they also bought out a dessert sample with CONGRATULATIONS written in chocolate and a candle. Our food was fabulous! We had salads to seafood to steak and everyone enjoyed it all. Our waiter was extremely attentive, it was definitely a great place for the ending to a great day of celebration for us.

One of the best steak houses in Philadelphia

By SaraMB |

I always have a great experience at the Capital Grille. It is perfect for family occasions, but I also take clients here. Steak might be the main event, but their Lobster salad is also superb!

Amazing!

By mollyb0915 |

I was in town for a getaway weekend and had dinner at Capital Grille. I had a filet and the au gratin potatoes which were fantastic! Chris Smith was my server and he was great. He was very attentive and engaged me in conversation. David, who I assume was a manager, brought me my first drink and checked on me specifically when I was finishing up. I would certainly return to Capital Grille! The food, service and vibe were terrific!

Great for Steak Seafood and Great Service

By 4onpark |

This is a place you can be assured of finding the steak you or your guests crave or seafood for those who don't eat meat. This was our first time to this Capital Grille and we lucked out to have Mary serve us, she was great! Always had a suggestion when you need it and always delivers with a smile, she add a great deal to a great meal. We will be back on future visits to Philly.

Elegant atmosphere, good food

By enzo b |

WASP restaurant. Elegant, white and upper class with prices to match. We start with really good albeit buttery clam chowder. Excellent meat with garnish of puree and seared asparagus. The desserts are good.

Fantastic steaks close to City Hall and the arts District

By TMish2014 |

Not cheap but the steaks and drinks are fantastic. Convenient location to the local theaters in a good place to have a meal after or before a show

Pre Birthday groundhog dinner😄

By Lilgroundhog |

We made reservations knowing it was restaurant week. My husband and I haven't dined here in quite some time. What a great experience we had. Our waitress Jessica was spot on. We upgraded adding lobster tail and bigger New York strip so worth it. Steak was cooked to perfection. We were impressed how well service ran being so busy. Looking forward to visiting Capital Grille soon.

Great Place to Dine

By Marco F |

If you are looking for a nice steak and a baked potato in a sophisticated place, the Capital Grille is a very good choice. We were a party of four and all of us were happy with our choices, steaks done to the point, very tasty. Service is good, attentive. Desserts are great, had the "Creme Brullée" which was fantastic. It was worth the visit and the dinner.

great cuisine and friendly service

By judyp32 |

The food is great and the service is excellent, a place you feel much welcome dining in leisure. I would recommend this place to anyone. I have dined there at least 2-3 times.

Great weekday lunch

By Wander |

I had a great experience coming to the Capital Grille for a solo lunch. I was immediately sat at the bar and set up with a menu. I got the lunch plate with the field greens salad and the NY strip. I was very satisfied with all parts of my meal and even had half my steak packed up for lunch tomorrow. I think it was great value for the price and it was a great steak.

Best steak

By Wahoorfg |

We tried a special that included 8oz fillet mignon, mashed potatoes, green beans and dessert. The fillets were the best steaks we've had in recent memory. The sides, served family style we're equally tasty. Had to pack the dessert for later. For $35 each, we think it was the best deal in the house. It's listed as $$$$ so plan on dropping some cash to experience this spot but the food is definitely on my great list.

A must try restaurant

By Santie_01 |

Very nice place for lunch or dinner. The food was excellent. Every thing was spot on. A little pricey but it's worth it. Highly recommend.

Happy Hour Done Right

By Ro W |

The vibe, service and food here are quite excellent. They have a great old world wooden style to match. It is very close to many different areas of downtown being close to City Hall. The servers were very friendly and service fast. Great selections. Definitely a go to

pre show dinner

By Josie H |

I have been to the Capital Grill on several occasions, this time it was the best. We were going before a show and our reservations where for 5:15. The staff was friendly, polite, and went out of their way to make sure our dinner was served in plenty of time. The best part was it was restaurant week to our surprise. Four choose the restaurant week special and two did not. We were all happy with our dinners and we will definitely go back again.

Good Food Except...

By lorrainep244 |

Celebrating a birthday. Other than the seafood appetizer, I can't remember what it was named but it cost $125, the food was good. The seafood tasted blah...frozen, thawed, refreeze, thawed then prepared.

best Special Occasion Restaurant in Philadelphia

By LauraS92504 |

My family has celebrated many occasions here and always had a wonderful experience. The servers are true professionals, the food is excellent, and the atmosphere is elegant. We prefer to "dress up" for our special occasions, but many other people dress casually here. They also have the calories listed on the menu which of course you can ignore, but I like to pace myself, and not have 1000 calorie salad. They have an extensive wine list, but they also make a first-class gin and tonic, and a house made vodka infused with pineapple that is delicious. All of the steaks are to die for, but the seafood is just as good. I have eaten in other capital grille locations, but this one is the best!

Elegance

Food very good with exceptional service. This restaurant is right in the heart of the city; prices are high.

The food was great!! The service was good. The paintings all over are very nice! All 3 courses were great!! I would definitely go back!!!

Simply The Best Dinning Experience

By adiazjr15 |

Simply Spectacular! The restaurant is lively and runs like a fine Swiss clock. On our case we were lucky, because we had Robbie K. as our waiter and he was the best server we have ever had! The meats were perfect, portion also generous and the dessert to die for. Worth mentioning that our very very dirty vodka martini was as close to perfect as can be!

Excellent in All Ways

By Mary R |

We were delighted to experience the excellent service and delicious food at the Philadelphia Capital Grille. We were attending the PA Ballet later that evening, so we selected the well-priced pre-theatre dinner. We enjoyed a large and tasty salad, well-cooked salmon, superb steak, yummy sides of vegetables and potatoes, and scrumptious desserts of creme brulee and flourless chocolate cake. All portions were quite large! The ambiance is very lovely and traditional, and although the restaurant is buzzing with activity, the tables are private and comfortably arranged. The service is outstanding. Our efficient server, Bobbie, made sure our every need was addressed promptly and was very friendly and helpful. David Lash, the congenial manager who is also a history buff, personally checks in with diners. All in all, this is an excellent restaurant for special celebrations, business dinners, family reunions, or just a fun evening out! We look forward to returning soon.

Awesome food

By J D |

The food was superb and the service was excellent. I had the roasted chicken with potatoes and spinach and it was delectable. Everyone in our party enjoyed the food. Pricey but if you want a great meal you won't be disappointed.

Wait staff outshone the food

By Michelle G |

Our waitress was simply outstanding. She was so careful with a business colleague who has serious food allergies, recommended excellent wine, delivering a service which was absolutely outstanding on a very busy night. Sadly the food was disappointing and unremarkable. I chose the rack of lamb which was two racks - far too much food for one and though I asked for it to be medium rare it was much closer to rare and not succulent or easy to eat. My colleague ordered the swordfish which was delicious (also huge) but a bit bland. A third colleague ordered a steak which was ‘nice’. The wait staff make this a restaurant worth visiting again.

GREAT SPOT FOR LUNCH

By David P |

Spent a couple of days in Philly and stopped her upon arrival for lunch. The view with the outside seating is great people watching. Food and service were great as the brand has consistent staff!

Truly enjoyable

By missalg |

Capital Grille isn't about avant garde, but what it does, it does excellently. The wedge salad, lobster bisque, and aged sirloin were all delicious, the service was efficient and friendly, and the surroundings are understatedly elegant and comfortable. It was a very pleasant experience from beginning to end.

Dreadful experience!

By acrespo |

Undrinkable "mojito de uvas", fully charged despite complaints. Cold steak. Unremarkable service. Advice: don't eat solo at the bar!

The best Steak

By Pamela M |

One off the best steaks I've had. I wanted to take the bone home. The mash potatoes are to die for. I can't wait to return.

Excellent Dinner

By larryderm |

Outstanding evening. The hostess overheard that it was our anniversary. They sprinkled the table with stars, brought an extra appetizer, and added a dessert. The waiter was most attentive, and the food was nicely served.

Delicious and Expensive

By CherrieTrips |

Overall a wonderful fine dining experience but that being said be aware of the cumulative cost before you go. Two friends and I went for dinner prior to attending a show at the Academy of Music. We allowed ourselves 2 hours to allow time for cocktails and appetizers before our meal and had more than 30 minutes to spare. The service was professional and prompt. Our server was knowledgeable and attentive .The setting itself was traditional, sophisticated, quiet and tastefully elegant with soft lighting, linen table clothes and enough spacing between tables to allow private conversation. We ordered 2 hand crafted cocktails and one glass of wine none of which cost less than $10+ each.I had a wonderful Brussel sprout and goat cheese salad and my friend had a delicious tomato caprese salad. Both were fresh, and the portions were large enough to split between 2. Each salad was more than $12 .We all had the lamb chops, which are my personal favorites; each one different in levels of internal temperature. All were tender, moist and deliciously seasoned. That entree was $47 but included no sides. We shared, family style , 2 sides, one of creamed spinach delicately seasoned with a hint of nutmeg and the most divine buttery rich ,creamy mashed potatoes. Each of those sides were over $10. The meal was delicious but our bill came to about $91/person including tip. Better planning may include sharing the salads or even an entree as the serving sizes in some of our choices could have allowed it (i.e. 2 orders of chops could have served 3 people for example and 2 side dishes were definitely enough to serve all 3 of us).We all left with doggie bags which made an elegant lunch for the next day. We had looked at the menu, know this restaurant for what to expect in cost . I would definitely go again for a “special “occasion but always remember how expensive it will be to eat there. Worth it? I think so!!!

Dinner at the Capital Grille

By Cheryl M |

This is definitely an upscale establishment. The service was impeccable. I would rate the food as just above average. We had the crab and lobster cakes for and appetizer, and they really didn't have much taste. I ordered my filet medium rare, and it arrived overcooked. They corrected that immediately, and the chef did come out to make sure the second steak was cooked correctly. The cheesecake dessert was excellent. Nice steakhouse. I would eat there again.

Great food + great service = GREAT TIME!

By num1mmfan |

Great service, great food! What more could you want? Chris, our waiter, was EXTREMELY attentive. The four of us sat back in a corner of the restaurant which was so nice because it wasn't very noisy and we could all hear/enjoy each other's company. My husband ordered the TOMAHAWK steak - what a great dish! Love how close the Capital Grille is to many great sites in Philadelphia. Definitely going back!

Not as good as I remembered

By 83TRAVEL |

It's been awhile since I was at this Capital Grille and went last week with a very large group for a luncheon. We were seated in a private room in the front past the bar. Waiting on a group our size (approximately 50-60 people) is difficult in any restaurant. We had a predetermined selection of 4 entrees. There were several wait staff assisting, but our waiter was less than friendly and clearly was not happy to be waiting on a group this size. When I showed him my food encrusted spoon and a fork with what appeared to be a long thread intertwined in the tines, he simply took both with barely a word and no apology. I ordered a salad with my lobster and crab burger and was given potato soup. I simply ate it and didn't bother mentioning anything to him. The lobster and crab burger was very good as was the potato soup. Several of our other diners got the steak sandwich - literally it was a slab of beef between bread. It was probably 3/4" thick, lovely for a steak, but it was difficult for him to eat as a sandwich. I truly think the quality of this steakhouse is generally very good, however, our experience did not reflect the good memories I have of this restaurant. I will attribute it to the fact that it was a large group but service should always shine no matter what.

Ask for Eric

By Debbe M |

This was a business dinner. They had my fave Duckhorn Merlot by the glass!! Excellent steak and calamari. And a light pineapple sorbet. It was Eric that made the business fun! Quick to serve, not pushy, wonderful stories. Reservations are a must - even mid-week.

Crikey.

By Poisonwells |

There is a menu on line so you must decide for yourself whether you think this place expensive. I was in financial trepidation on entering and was destitute on departure. The supervisory waiters were helpful and attentive. The servers seemed somewhat slap dash in their approach. A typical busy steak house staff scenario. Everyone had meat and all the meat was good enough although the Filet Mignon seemed to lack in taste and had a livery savour for the first few mouthfuls. All the food was cooked perfectly. I seem to remember $51 for a 10z steak? House dry white wine was pretty poor, almost corked I would have said from the smell and really more of a half glass than a full goblet. Desserts were delicious. No one had tea or coffee. Lavatories were clean although strangely situated halfway down the restaurant, not by the coat check as might have been expected. The restaurant doesn't seem to mind but I don't like diners near me who work on their laptops while conducting business on their mobile telephones. Noise levels were bearable in a full and obviously very popular place and i can't quite see why it is so obviously so. I suspect that many expense accounts get run through here. I wouldn't go back, not quite worth the heavy cost, no real finesse, boorish sort of clientele, bet they say the same of me though and a couple of the female staff has attitude problems. One further thing, when we were waiting to be seated a perfectly decent but not very affluent looking more than middle aged chap arrived with a walker cane and in obviously very desperate need for a pee. He was desperate. It would have been a kindness to let him use your facility instead of chasing him off to the third floor at Walgreens opposite, a task he told you he could not successfully manage because he was so short taken. I offered to take the guy to the rest room and there were diners in the place no worse dressed than he. A little shame on you there I think.

Outstanding

By Michael Lane |

If you’re in the mood for meat, the Capital Grille makes for an awesome experience! Great wine list and exceptionally well cooked meat. The salads are a good start, the filet was perfectly cooked (literally melting and packed with flavor), and the mash potatoes make an excellent side. Highly recommended for a solid meal with family, friends or work colleagues.

Perfect Evening

By TheProduce |

I was impressed from the start. We had reservations and they were able to seat us early. It was my wife’s birthday and they had s table setup with a little card and decorations on the table. Our server, Lupe, was so friendly and attentive to all our needs. I ordered the NY strip, cooked to perfection. My wife ordered the twin lobster tail special, so good! More that enough food, in fact had to box the rest. Price is expensive, but worth every penny. You get what you pay for, quality. We will be back next time we spend the night in Philly.

Great for business or social

By travel_curmudgeon |

Excellent steakhouse with top service and great food. We've enjoyed client lunches, firm lunches, social dinners including a great wine tasting meal.

Theatre menu

By David G |

The limited menu was adequate, not outstanding but adequate, it was fix priced at $38 the only issue that we had was their extraordinarily strict no substitution, even for dietary reasons. The only substitution they allowed was fruit instead of the two dessert choices. No vegetables substituted for a dairy allergy 🙁. Overall the service was good, maybe even slightly better than good, not quite outstanding. The steaks were prepared as requested.

Made to Order

By Christie M |

I ordered an item with specific instructions. Not only was done correctly, the service I received was spot on.

Very Nice Evening

By Jim-n_Memphis |

The Capital Grille is not an inexpensive restaurant, but the food quality and service were excellent. The calamari was outstanding, and the main meal excellent. Great service, attentive but not obtrusive.

Great Steakhouse Chain

By joanz359 |

I used to work around the area and went there frequently for lunch. I have also had dinner there many times. So when I went to meet a friend from work we chose this location They have great lunch specials for around $20.00.The burgers are great as is the salad with steak, the option I usually choose. At dinner bring a wallet as it is a steakhouse and everything is a la carte. There is a good bar and at night if you are waiting for a table it can be crowded. It is one of my husband's favorite restaurants and any city we go to he will eat at a Capital Grille and we are lucky to have one here. It is a real steakhouse atmosphere and any carnivore will be satisfied. I would not say itis a quiet restaurant so be prepared for some noise in the evening

Pricey but the steak was worth it

By billm3679 |

Stopped in on Monday, 10/23/17 during MNF when the Eagles were playing at home. Large crowd and it looked like the restaurant was a bit understaffed for the crowd they had. Food was excellent. Service a bit slow and out-of-sync, but understandable due to the amount of customers. Overall a great meal.

Never a disappointment

By Helly99 |

The Capital Grille is always spot on and nothing but amazing. The food is just perfect and they are always willing to do things to accommodate. My friend wanted just a 1/2 portion of an appetizer and they were more than willing to do that. I wanted a smaller cut of steak they were willing to do that too. The staff is professional and friendly. Knowledgeable of the area and even gave us recommendations for breakfast the next day. Dinner really couldn't have been more perfect - except for the fact that I wasn't hungry enough!

Wonderful steakhouse!

By IP_BKK |

A very nice dinner at one of the top restaurants in the city of Philadelphia! Great steaks, good ambiance..worth a visit!

Food good, service poor

By PSG100 |

Large restaurant and seems to have a good reputation. Service started well and felt looked after but from then on it was random and quite a lot of mistakes were made. The starters were brought out separately, with a 15 minute gap between them, the wine was late being served, the promised fries were never delivered, the mustard asked for never appeared……. Steaks were of good quality but sides were not so good. Sauces were overly rich and a bit greasy. All in all a very disappointing experience considering the prices charged. Raised all points with manager and he did the right thing in discounting the whole meal and we ended up paying just for the steaks and wine. Would not return as there are better options in Philadelphia.

Mistake on the Steak

By D_v_D_USA |

I visited this location on a Friday night and I would have rated 5 stars if they haven’t missed the temperature on the steak. I asked it for medium well and it came well done.

Steak dinner at its best!

By irkbylihp |

Since I was enjoying the weekend alone in Philly I decided to have a good steak. Looking for good place close to the hotel in TA I spotted the Capital Grille. I walked in without a reservation on a Friday, admittedly early, and was immediately seated. I had oysters on the half shell for a starter and they were perfectly served even if a bit cold for my taste. I went for the bone in Kona dry aged NY strip with shallot sauce and it was a delight, perfectly cooked medium rare, a good combination of tenderness & taste with just the right amount of sauce to accompany it. The garlic sautéed spinach was good too, not too garlicky and not over cooked. The desert was a good close to an excellent meal, crème brûlée style cheesecake with berry coulis. Scrumptious! They have an excellent selection of wines by the glass. The Black Stallion Cab was pretty at a decent price for a California Cab. The service was just right, attentive but not overly so with good pace between dishes. Overall and excellent meal & experience.

A steak house above the rest

By Marc S |

Although a chain, our experience at Capital Grille, Philadelphia was outstanding and featured really personal attention to our needs. The steaks (filet and strip) were effortlessly returned to the kitchen for more cooking when we requested "a little less red" in the interior. The sides (lettuce wedge with blue cheese dressing, potatoes au gratin, grilled asparagus, and sauteed spinach) were each perfectly prepared and really complimented our steaks. Both our server and the restaurant manager were extremely attentive to making our meal a memorable dining experience. The dining area was packed with tables but the noise level was low enough to enable easy conversation. Special table decorations acknowledging our anniversary were a welcome surprise, as was the creme brulee dessert. Not inexpensive but definitely worth it , especially for a special night out!

I’ll return again, solo or not

By Courtney S |

Even though I was dining alone, staff were very attentive and kind, went out of there way to ensure I was comfortable not only with the food but dining solo (didn’t hassle me either). The food was delicious, although the kitchen closed at 10pm I asked to be seated at the bar after my meal for a glass of wine and dessert whilst watching the basketball. Staff again were just lovely and the manager so kindly took care of the costs of my desserts for me. Could not recommend highly enough, my steak was cooked just how I’d asked and all food came out very timely. When I am next in Philly solo or not I will be back.

Can’t beat their steaks

By Johnplatinum |

Was staying at Ritz across the street. My girlfriend had lobster with her steak and I got the ribeye. This was my first visit to this location but Capital Grille always exceeds my expectations for flavor and service. I always get my money’s worth.

Thank you Zach 5 stars

By tanagogo1 |

Fabulous meal at the CG once again. I’ve eaten at their restaurants all around the US and they never fail to deliver. Special shout out to Zack, who looked after us, and made this a special event. Great service and delicious food. Five stars!

By Mary T |

Fantastic service and attention to detail have made our night extra special! Your month's "Stoli Doli" cocktail with lobster mac and from age was amazing! Thank you once more for the surprise dessert for the birthday! A fantastic evening!

well worth the money

By Fdb187 |

my wife loves it here as do i,we try and go at least once a month food is amazing and we always have a very nice time although parking is tough so be prepared to walk a few blocks or intend on using valet as the ladies are usually in heels

Watch out Peter Luger's

By Jay F |

This steak house won't disappoint....it compares to New Yorks Peter Luger's and Sparks steak houses.....the exception is that I felt that the decor was more updated...not that it really matters when your looking for a great steak..... capital is fresh clean and friendly.....we enjoyed their Porter house steak which was cooked to perfection...the creamed spinach not as good as Luger's but still good ....burrata that rivals some of the best Italian restaurants I've eaten in...... excellent wine list and the wait staff is very accommodating.....not a cheap place but what good steak house is??? Save this for a special occasion this is a good one

Very good food & service

By Mark S |

The Capital Grille overall is a very good restaurant chain and this location continues the high standard. Had a very nice lunch, the steaks were perfectly prepared, we both had the NY Strip and it was cooked exactly as ordered and well seasoned. Service got a touch slow but we were in and out within an hour and that worked out just perfectly.

Great Dining Experience

By danpan066 |

Went in with my son to celebrate his first day of work at his first real job. We requested a high top in the bar. Seated right away, had the pleasure of having Bob as a server. Cannot say enough about the service, including the extra blue cheese olives he gave us after we told him how much we loved them in our Goose Martinis. Also had Oysters, Steak in Kona Crust, Rack of Lamb, Creamed spinach, Bordeaux and some fries. Everything was great, Bob made it better with the high level of service, my son asking when we're going back......Hopefully soon!!!

Laaarge pieces of meat

By Rik P |

I have been in several steak houses but this was surely very good (not cheap) meat dinner. NY strip top.

Well worth the price

By Ryan B |

The ambiance and the attention to a relaxed and extravagant night to dinner is really what makes this place top of our lists! You get what you pay for and I would pay 10x over the food is that good and the staff there makes sure everything is perfection.

Great food & atmosphere

By Michael F |

Ask for Danny the 13 year veteran waiter to take car care of you for a wonderful relaxing dining experience.

An Experience Not To Be Missed

By Judy D |

Two work colleagues and I attended on recommendation. I recommend booking to make sure of a table. Danny was our waiter - a real Philly person to the bone - great character and an asset to the business. The food was great - steak and lobster tails and the sides also great. The service was second to none - a 5 star experience. Make a great latte to finish the night.

Steaks and Service Worth The Price

By JPW65164 |

Had a wonderful family dinner. My In-bone Filet, my “In Fashion “ cocktail (special reserve 15 yr old Knobb Creek) and the service were all spectacular

Philly Bus Trip

By vincepro |

Very good lunch and great service besides a little slow. Had steak salad and was cooked perfectly. Also, you must try the banana cream pie, not too rich or too sweet.

A good seak house

By James J |

Very good steak, excellent service, but a bit pricey, of course. Nice atmosphere and a good wine list.

Excellent and friendly

By Cyndi W |

Despite not having reservations, we were able to snag a table at this busy and upscale restaurant on our first evening in Philly. The wait staff was very nice and efficient and the food was impeccable. I regret we forgot to take photos of our dishes. We weren't able to finish our meals but they wrapped up the leftovers, including the balance of our bottle of wine to take with us. It is a bit pricey but worth it.

Fantastic steak & service

By MarcieBus |

My extended family of seven booked this at the last minute, all feeling like a good steak dinner. First time visitors to Philly, it was swankier than we had imagined. But the service was outstanding, they didn’t miss a beat with us coming straight off the street. Our waitress couldn’t have been more welcoming & helpful. And the steak was superb. If you are going to pay this price, you want to be more than happy with what comes out of the kitchen. Melt in the mouth, brilliant sides, from 13-75 we were all satisfied. Desserts were great too. Thank you for a lovely family night.

Philly Happy

By DarcyGirl_12 |

My daughter and I dined at the Capital Grille here while touring schools in the area. Great location across from the Ritz so we decided to check it out. We have to say this is now our favorite Capital Grille of all! We had the most amazing seafood dinners and the best baked potatoes literally of all time. It exceeded our high expectations. Meeting Chef Joe was also a huge highlight. This chef knows how to please his dinner guests. We will definitely be back!

Good Food, but service was a little off

By DMSMD64 |

We stopped in on a weeknight without reservations and ere able to eat in the lounge. After ordering cocktails, we ordered an appetizer, Caesar salad and the tenderloin sliders. The calamari were tasty but a little overloaded with peppers. The Caesar was average for a Capital Grille. The sliders were good, and with three on a plate was enough for us to share (having had an appetite and a salad). The only downside was the service. Our server, who looked like they were doing double duty as a bartender as well, provided about the minimum service required. Even the bussers were a little off having started off with immediately brining bread and water when we sat down, but throughout the meal we had to ask for refills of our water glasses a couple of times.

Wedding Anniversary Date Night

By Sonya M |

We thoroughly enjoyed our wedding anniversary date night at The Capital Grille Philly and it was fun & memorable. We were treated with a “Happy Anniversary” table tent card and adorable multi-color mini heart confetti on our table. Our server, Zach was absolutely phenomenal greeting us with an offer of champagne 🥂 to start our celebration 🎉 (he’s great at upselling☺️). Just as we started an intimate conversation the lights dimmed creating such a romantic ambiance 💕 Although Zach was in high demand that night he still made us feel like we were the only couple in the room. My husband and I had such a wonderful time it was just perfect. We even enjoyed seeing a few snowflakes fall while eating dinner. Our starters & entrees were delicious. Thank you to our server, Zach & The Capital Grille for an amazing wedding anniversary date night! We would absolutely choose this dining experience again!!!

Fantastic

By NaeJnz |

The service and food was wonderful. The staff was very attentive. I had the steamed crab legs, mushrooms and sauteed spinach. Dessert was the cheesecake with fresh berries, which was very well made.

Birthday Dinner

By Rebecca C |

The Capital Grille is an awesome dining experience. We were seated quickly as we arrived. Our waitress Kelli (?) was very friendly and had a really fun personality. My friends and I all ordered a steak. My oh my were the steaks so delicious! Never had one better than I did the night I ate here. The lemon asparagus was delicious as well. The only hit against the night was that the mashed potatoes were only average but we still enjoyed them because they weren't terrible. The night was made extra special when I was surprised with a dessert plate for my birthday. My friends and I had a great night full of delicious food and really couldn't be happier. Thank you!

Excellent Food But Spendy

By maggieminn |

We chose the Capital Grille as it was close to the Academy Theater, and we had just gotten out from see the "Nutcracker". It was busy yet we were able to get a nice booth. We ordered the clam chowder, mushroom bisque and crab/lobster cakes. Everything was absolutely delicious!! Cakes were $22 and got two. They weren't very large but were excellent as was the dipping sauce that came with them.

A Good Meal and A Very Good Waiter

By blueskiesoveraruba |

Beautiful decor. Rene Condo our waiter was very attentive, friendly yet professional and EXTREMELY patient. We took a while to decide what we wanted. THAT was a nice change. We were a group of 4 for an early dinner. The complimentary bread you received before your meal was delicious. Two of us had filet mignon. It was delicious. I can't remember what my two other friends had but they did enjoy it. We shared a taste of fried lobster. That was delicious also. The two sides we added with our filet mignon were ok. It was garlic mash potatoes and creamed spinach. I've had better garlic mash potatoes at the Hard Rock Cafe. My friend enjoyed the creamed spinach. I wasn't a fan of it. We didnt order dessert but we received a little sample of a cheesecake dessert and what was like a flourless chocolate cake dessert. I'm sure they had a fancy name but I don't remember it. Whipped cream and strawberries were on the serving platter. They were both delicious. Overall it was a nice meal. The 4 stars out of 5 stars was for very good service by Rene Condo, the meals and dessert sampler in general, and the decor. I can't give it 5 stars. The prices were definitely of a 5 star restaurant but the sides were just ok to me so no 5 stars.

Good place to dine in Philadelphia

By MJ63 |

The place is lovely, the staff exceptional and the food ten. Mood, from Philadelphia people without much tourists. We were so delighted that we repeated the second night we were in Philadelphia. The two days didn't disappoint. Highly recommended. The price is that of this type of establishment in the United States, but it was very worth

Dining Delight near Philadelphia City Hall

By Phillytrack |

I was invited to dinner by friends as a reward. I'm motivated even more to return. Attention to detail and intimate knowledge of the menu made this a rewarding dining experience. I went with a suggestion from one of my dining companions. Our waiter confirmed my choice. I have to get back there. We dined and talked without being disturbed. Service was seamless

One of the best steakhouses in Philly

By Brittany L |

Lives up to the expectations of being one of the nicest steakhouses in the area. Great food and great service.

Fabulous Experience!

By Summer2229 |

Everything about our meal at The Capital Grille was great! We started with a delicious bread basket and a cup of their New England Clam chowder which was one of the best I have had. Other winning dishes were the Grille's Signature Cheeseburger, the salmon and the aged sirloin steak. The burger came with a side of parmesan truffle fries which were out of this world! The desserts were delicious and so decadent - we loved the creme brulee and flourless chocolate cake...YUM! Service was exceptional - team kept drinks continuously refilled, plates cleared and in general gave us just the right amount of attention. The atmosphere is classic and sophisticated. Overall we had a great time and enjoyed the food very much - we will definitely be back!!

Eagles Parade!!!!!!

By johnito |

We flew up to Philly for the Eagles Super Bowl Parade and my brother got us a very nice seat with a view of Broad St, away from the cold, a great spot to watch the parade. Now to the food, we had tuna tartare and the fried mozzarella wrapped in prosciutto for appetizer, the mozza was out of this world, would go back just for this plate. My son had the chicken fingers with fries, yes the have them if you have kids that don’t eat anything else and I had the bone in dry aged steak. The steak was perfectly cooked, one of the best I have had, I honestly was not expecting this level of food quality. Thank you Ken for getting us the great table and to for talking great the amazing service we got

Lunch

By netherholt |

Excellent professional waitstaff. 2 of us opted for the $20 two course lunch specials. He had New England clam chowder and then Jumbo Shrimp and Grits with Applewood Smoked Bacon. He had 3 shrimp, and they were not jumbo. Large, but not jumbo. I had porcini mushroom bisque and then Seared Citrus Glazed Salmon with Marcona Almonds and Brown Butter with some hericot vert & baby onions. Entree very good but I make a better mushroom soup with smoother texture than this one was. Excellent Manhatten cocktails. Friends enjoyed their salmon and steak, margarita and wine. Would recommend and will return. Have been before and always enjoy it. All in all nice experience. Will get steak next time.

Impeccable service great wine list and delectable steak-house staples - daughter's 18th birthday celebration -

Best steak I've ever eaten

By jandl-b |

Reserved a table for 19.00 on a Friday. The place was buzzing. Thought we would have a long wait to be fed but the sevice is so slick and well organised there were no delays. First restaurant I've been to where the wine list is presented on an iPad!! Seems the range of wines is so extensive if it were put into print it would be the size of a small novel. Ordered the Ribeye, between the two of us. Good move as I would not have been able to eat one on my own. Really the best steak ever also the sides of asparagus in lemon butter sauce and dauphanoise potatoes were superb. Washed it down with an excellent bottle of Merlot, which was one of the less expensive offerings from the iPad. Considering the food, wine, service and overall ambience, this was a memerable dining experience. When we left the restaurant they were starting to queue through the doors. So make a reservation

25th Anniversary

By endodock |

We have celebrated almost every anniversary here. Great staff and service not to mention the delectable food. We had a complimentary champagne toast when we arrived, and then we had cocktails. We ordered salads, and sides. The Brussel sprouts are fantastic with bacon, baked potato with fixings, and Chef Wydiah made us onion rings that were FANTASTIC! My filet and my husband’s Strip were delicious! Heather, our waitress was awesome! They gave us complimentary dessert, coconut cream pie! Highly recommend this Capital Grille as it is much better than others we have been to!

Wonderful Birthday Dinner!

By Elvis Z |

We were celebrating our daughter's 16th birthday (her "first choice" restaurant for dinner!) and our meal was wonderful. The service was fabulous, the food was delicious, and the extra touches for our daughter were appreciated (personalized card, with some confetti on the table, and a special dessert sampler). We have eaten at several Capital Grille locations, but this one stands out as one of our better experiences. The staff went out of their way to make sure we had an enjoyable meal - when one of the steaks had to be sent back to cook just an extra minute (literally a minute), a side dish we had been contemplating was sent out (free of charge) to compensate. Yes, it's expensive... But perfect for a celebration. Great upscale "chain" steakhouse in Philly. Just a side note: This restaurant is directly across the street from the Ritz Carlton, so super easy for hotel guests (it worked perfectly for us!) And the bar area seemed to be popular - nice atmosphere. You won't be disappointed!

Birthday Dinner

By Daydream744674 |

Booked for my wife's 60th Birthday treat (was $260 for 2 - no appetizers, 2 entrees + 2 drinks and they presented my wife with free dessert treat). My steak entree was great - tender and tasteful. My wife's tuna tartare was fine but not exceptional. Dessert was wonderful. Service was very attentive and they did make a fuss over my wife for her birthday. Nice sitting for us as we had a booth - probably worth asking for those as some of the tables in the middle of the room did look slightly close to each other.

Great Service

By Savage |

I week there for lunch on restaurant week Service was great bartender and food was tasty. Staff did not harass people about having a reservation.

Did not disappoint

By David L |

Was there as part of Restaurant Week and was not disappointed. The bone in NY Strip medium rare was flavorful with its saute onions in butter and cooked consistently. The long beans was tender and the mashed potato flavorful too (not just the butter but with herbs).

Quick lunch

By Rsantos79 |

Good news...the food was good and the place is spotless. The waiter was very friendly and attentive. Don’t be turned off by the hostess that does not smile, looks up occasionally and says “yes??!?”. She made my family and I feel like we were doing her a favor by showing up or maybe she was just annoyed because she had to work that day. Whatever the case may be, when you are the first person customers see, you should at least pretend you want to be there and greet everyone with a smile.

A bit disappointing

By Beacher81 |

Atmosphere and prices comparable to other upscale urban steak houses. Caesar Salad and Creme Brulee were excellent. While cooked to correct temperature, steak lacked flavor. Wine serving was meager. Although server was knowledgeable and polite, he seemed less than enthusiastic when we chose to order from the discounted "Restaurant Week" menu. Probably will not return since Center City Philadelphia offers many other dining options if you are willing to pay a hundred dollars fa person..

Yes, very good

By Sonny Life |

Fillet steak and a rack of double lamb chops. The lamb was probably the best I've had albeit maybe a little too much salt seasoning. The service was good however the food took a while. Busy for a Thursday!

This time missed the mark slighly.

By michaelnti |

Usually this Capital Grille Location never disappoints but there was some service issues. Food was good once I got the correct steak. Lobster, wine and sides were great. Drinks were lacking.

Honestly, a bit underwhelming for the price

By BeachloverfromPA |

Our first time at this well-known Phila. steakhouse, and I must say that I was a bit disappointed. The restaurant itself is really beautiful, and elegant. The service was very good, though bordering on intrusive. My steak, at over $50, was really overcooked. Luckily, it was dry-aged, so at least it was pretty tender. The veal tomahawk chop looked very good. This is the one thing that I would recommend. Appetizers were good, but nothing memorable. Overall, at >$100pp, I won’t be likely to return for a meal that was less than great.

Expensive but worth it.

By chefeMark |

I find myself in this chain a few times a year. I had been here before as food is top notch. Good location with valet parking If you dare to drive in Philadelphia. Located fairly close to most downtown hotels. We elected to Uber and got their a little early so we sat in a real lively bar for a few minutes waiting on the table but well worth the wait. Steaks here are the king but fresh seafood is a close 2nd place. Sides are large and very delicious. I’ve tried almost every steakhouse in town and this is definitely in the top 3!

Outstanding food and even better service!

By Rick |

In Phili for a couple of days and wanted a steak, so chose this place. The food was first class, everything was cooked to perfection. It was matched by the service from Zack, I was dining alone, and he went the extra mile to look after me…..would give a 6 star review if I could, I couldn’t fault anything. Thanks

Great mixed drinks and super friendly patrons.

By Lou W. |

We frequent the Capital a lot. This visit I broke tradition and ordered a burger. Wow. It was delicious and my date ordered the lollypop chops which were so tasty a second round was ordered. The evening went by so fast, it was impressive again.

Wow--Best lunch in town!

By Steen H |

First time in downtown Philly! Had a business meeting over lunch and it was outstanding. Great hostess staff and wonderful servers. Love the environment. I had luggage as I was headed to the airport and the staff took care of me. Come back in a heart beat.

She a [steak] house!

By Cori Avery |

We frequent city steakhouses and until recently thought what set Capital Grille apart was its service and of course, burger. After a handful of unpleasant encounters, particularly at the bar, we're taking a hiatus. With the revamp of the Palm (C graded service/food), and several steakhouses with a city block, you'll get impeccable service and your money's worth elsewhere. We frequent Morton's and have nothing but good things to say about it!

Wow! What a pleasant surprise

By ManayunkMichelle |

I haven't been to a Capital Grille before. I don't love chains and wasn't willing to give this one a shot. Alas, we wound up here one weekend. "Just a drink" at the bar. The service was so spectacular that we decided to stay for some food, which was also amazing. The fig salad was phenomenal. The lobster mac and cheese was perfect. And, dessert was on point. Best part was the pineapple vodka cocktail. Wow! Definitely worth checking out!

Outstanding!

By Shannon K |

We came here for New Year’s Eve dinner and it was outstanding! It was busy but the service was still excellent and all of the food was amazing! The sliced filet was my favorite! I definitely recommend it here!

Wonderful.

By Voyager665152 |

Great service and the food was absolutely delicious. I would definitely visit this restaurant again.

Romantic dinner for one!

By Lisa M |

Traveling on business this past week, I decided to try out this location. My husband and I had an amazing dinner at the Manhattan location on the day we got engaged, so I wanted to see if this one stacked up. It did indeed! While I wish I had company for my meal, the servers certainly didn’t leave me hanging for anything. I ordered the pear and Gorgonzola salad (with a cheese substitute since I am allergic). This was happily accommodated. I ordered the lobster Mac an Cheese as my entree. It’s basically like eating half a small lobster with some divine Mac and cheese around it. Fantastic! I couldn’t leave without the chocolate cake with port wine cherries. It was a fantastic meal. Can’t wait to come back with my husband.

Great Business Lunch!

By Ken W |

If you are in Center City Philadelphia for a business lunch with a client or friend, you can't go wrong with the Capital Grill on South Broad Street in Philadelphia. Great service is consistent and the food is outstanding!!

Well worth a visit.

By Mike |

Fabulous environment (as usual), superb food, however, the stand out at this restaurant really is the team, Liz, Stephen and Christian did a superb job from initial reservation to presenting the check. It's an enthusiastic recommendation from me!

New Years Eve

By Alberto L |

Most of the restaurants take advantage of this festivity to make people pay a certain fee but not in this restaurant even though the restaurant was packed their service was exceptional and their food incredible.

Fabulous Steaks and best service.

By johnPHL |

I've been to several Capital Grille restaurants, but in my home town this is the best! You won't be disappointed.

Dinner

By olsonbr |

Outstanding restaurant! The food and service we're both over the top. I ordered the aged porterhouse steak and it was cooked to perfection, cut like butter. One of the guys in our party ordered the same steak but it was a little overcooked. The took his steak, gave him a shrimp cocktail while the cooked him a new steak. The cook brought it out and made sure it was properly cooked. It was perfect. When ever I come back to Philly I will go back. Highly, highly recommend!

Nice experience until the end

By Adogg |

Had a great experience enjoying dinner with a colleague in the bar until the server became aggressive with the drink refills. It started with the manager trying to push us to get shots…felt like we were at a damn tequila bar in Tijuana…we had to tell him no we don’t want shots multiple times while he lingered around too long. The great experience turned into a pushy attempt to drive up the bill with unwanted drinks…not cool.

Top notch fine dinning

This is a must visit restaurant for the grommet foody. great professional service and wonderful food. You can't go wrong with visit here.

A Celebration Event

By Lynn C |

we chose Capital Grille for several reasons. We knew from past experience the food and service were excellent and with a member of the party who eats only fish that there would be a good selection of seafood as well. We reserved for 7, and were celeberating a grandson's high school graduation, a son's birthday and our 35th wedding anniversary. When the reservationist called to know if it was a sepcial event I let her know the 3 things we were celebrating. When we arrived we were shown to a private room with table decorations. Food was excellent, service outstanding and each celbrant received a free dessert. The restaurant madme this an even more special event.

Great as always

By TheHef |

The Cap Grille chain is always a great find in any city. I typically like going for lunch as I enjoy their specials. The bar is always a friendly place to eat and the bartenders know what is going on in the city. Go to a Cap Grille near you, and you will not be disappointed.

Best steak I've ever had!@!

By West End Music a |

We have been going to the Capital Grille for decades. Started in North Carolina, but mostly center City, Philly. Service is excellent! Napkin folded after I have returned from the rest room. Table crumbs gone! Dry aged beef to die for. We ask for Danny, but all of the servers have been fantastic. Celebrated 10 years of a serious health situation treated at Temple this past 4th of July and were treated like a King and Queen. Can't say enough about this place.

The worst meal!

By evilstepmommy |

I don't get it. We've been to the Capital Grille a number of times & never found it great, but our last visit was the worst!. We had a group of 13 for dinner on a Saturday night. Reservation was for 7:45, but we were not seated until 8:25. So we waited huddled around the bar along with a lot of others trying to dodge wait staff & other diners. The service was extremely slow & some side dishes were ordered, but we never got them. But the entrees were horrible! A medium filet was cooked to death & like shoe leather. The tomahawk veal chop wasn't cooked through. A strip steak was blue! (raw) One diner even got sick halfway through dinner & had to leave. I think it was the crab on her steak. There were too many complaints to list here, but we will never go back to the Capital Grille. For the prices they charge, they should put out a great meal. There are too many other great restaurants in Philly. Don't waste your time & money there.

Meat Spectacular!

By HonestPhilReviewer |

My girlfriend was in the mood for beef and suggested the Capital Grill. When we arrived @ 6:15pm we owned the place. Our waiter started off quite attentive but as the restaurant filled he disappeared. These days my definition of great service is keeping my iced tea glass full and my lemon supply sufficient. We both ordered steaks with sides. She ordered a filet while I had the NY Strip Au Poivre. We agreed the quality, flavor, & temp were to perfection. No room for dessert. Another visit is certainly merited.

Disrespected and mice chillin under my table

By Marlon T |

Took my daughter there for dinner and a mouse was sitting at her feet.. she took a picture and didn't scream.. I told and showed the manger and it was still their when he came over.. we didn't make any trouble and we had our table moved... I got the bill with an appetizer taken off and he thought that was good enough.. that was disrespectful for kind of establishment were a young lady could have made that whole night a nightmare.. not my first time but will be my last.. the managers name is Marty Rechenberg.. thanks for the great customer service

Amazing

By Cookie1973tommie |

What a fabulous restaurant. We were a table of 10, the restaurant surroundings were stunning and atmosphere was just delightful. The service from Robert was just out of this world. All the food was excellent, full of flavour and flocked to perfection. A great evening was had by all.

Excellent dining experience!

By LalaMarie |

We hosted a group of 25 guests from Ireland at The Capital Grille for dinner in December. We booked the private Anderson Room which was ideal for our group and choose the €75 set menu, which was excellent. Our guests were very impressed with the amazing steaks! The staff were extremely friendly and choosing wine to accompany our meal from the impressive menu was easy as we were allowed to taste them before deciding. The manager was very kind and even prepared a list of things to see and do in Philadelphia during our visit. While reasonably expensive, I have no hesitation in recommending The Capital Grille for a truly memorable dining experience!

Well worth the 3500 mile travel

By Rich J |

Have an amazing supper at this restaurant this evening The staff were incredibly helpful from the get go The whole ambiance of the place is just perfect and the food was wonderful I must give a special thanks to our waiter Robert he made this evening out even better Thank you from the gang in the back with the British

Phenomenal meal and a VanHalen bartender!

By Rich Calabrese |

I'm rating it a 4/5 because nobody reads the five star reviews. It's definitely a FIVE star! I came to CG because I've eaten here in other cities and it's never, ever disappointed. My meal was exceptional. I travel alone most times and love to sit at the bar and not at a lone table. Now for the fun part of the story: Even thought I didn't need to, I wore my mask when I walked in, which is striped like Eddie VanHalen's guitar. The bartender (Jamie) noticed it and we got talking about the music, the band and we immediately became friends. The following evening, I went back and again, the VanHalen talk continued. He has a knack with keeping the bar patrons feel like they're the only customer in the place. Anyway, eat here, for sure! And please, tell Jamie that Rich, his new VH buddy says hello!

Good Food and service

By Debra R |

I went to Capital Grille for my anniversary. It was awesome! Our server(Danny Lenzi) was very knowledgeable and friendly. Not only that however, if they are busy the other servers step in. We had a very nice evening. I am so glad we went there. My husband also was pleased with the wine and the food. He had a large South African Lobster tail and I had twin lobster tails. So good! We added the lobster mac and cheese and roasted Brussel spouts for side orders to share. We will definitely go back. Our server offered us desert however we had to decline. We were full!! Then a nice surprise happen when our server Danny, brought out a plate with desert and in the middle of the plate was happy anniversary. So cool. An end to a perfect evening. Oh, and I failed to mention earlier that when we first arrived and were taken to the table they had a long stem rose and confetti on the table for our anniversary. When the reservation was made it was mention but only because they asked on line was it a special occasion. The rose on the table and the desert was all Capital Grille which was a very nice and pleasant surprise for me and my husband. Can't wait to go back. Next month is my birthday and guess what? LOL

Watch the wine

By paddler50S16 |

We had been to Capital Grille before, at this location. The experience had generally been more than satisfactory. And then...not sure where the problems started, but they did not seem to end. Pet peeve: order a bottle of wine, and the wine is not in stock, and instead of saying so, the wine steward brings another bottle and tries to pass it off as what was ordered. What is so difficult about saying: "I am sorry, but we do not have that bottle but here is the tablet (or list) and please make another selection."? Capital Grille flunked on that one. The server was competent and pleasant, but that could not make up for the facts that the spinach with garlic confit had no garlic, that the mushrooms were mushy and tasteless, and that the steak came out sans char and lukewarm. There are, in sum, a number of fine steakhouses in this city. This location might pay some closer attention to details.

Graduation dinner

By Damian |

Party of 5. This was our daughter's graduation. The place has a very nice ambiance. The waiterace was very good although she was spread too thin between many tables. So the waiting time was way too long. Lobster bisque was very good. The special burger was excellent. Unfortunately they missed the temperature on NY strip . Drinks were not very tasty. Mojito was terrible. Overall ,we had a very good time.

Lovely dinner in a private room!

By creativecrew |

Just had a lovely private dinner party. Yes, it was pricey but the filet mignon was fantastic! Wish we would have had choices so the appetizers were not all seafood. But the desserts were phenomenal (creme Burlee, cheesecake, and chocolate lava cake!) the mushroom side dish had a great variety of mushrooms-very flavorful! Tamara was a great waiter who managed a team of servers who did not miss a beat! Wonderful service!

First time customer and loved it!

By Donna C |

We were in Philly to celebrate both my birthday and our wedding anniversary so we decided to splurge on a nice dinner. I've heard great things about Capitol Grille so we headed there and had an amazing meal. We were seated right away at a nice quiet location and lucked out with a great waiter, Eric. He was so friendly and patient while my husband and I tried to decide what we wanted. While we were deciding we had a lovely conversation about kids and dogs...two of the best subjects. The food was great (I am a vegetarian and found quite a few things that would fit that diet), the atmosphere was very, very nice and we actually had an amazing first time experience. It was an excellent choice for these special occasions.

Excellent!!!

By Betsy D |

The food was incredible!!! Great restaurant, great service. Lobster/crabcakes, scallops and desserts were decadent. So happy to have found this place!

Perfection!

By Chantell L |

I ate at the Capital Grille for the first time ever. It was the best steak I've ever had juicy and plump seasoned to perfection. The setting and service was wonderful! I will now visit the location near my home in Michigan.

Why have I not been here for many years????

By emraf09 |

Was last here when my daughter was visiting from her duty station in South Korea and knowing how much she enjoyed steak, we brought her here. We live in the area and can not believe we have not returned until today! We came for the beginning of restaurant week and we found the $35 dinner to be delicious, and the portions perfect in size. I had the salmon and my husband the steak and they were both perfectly prepared . What I remember most about our first visit to The Capital Grille was the impeccable service and today was no different. Our server, Jill Marie, was pleasant, attentive and truly professional. Not being rushed to finish our meal was a plus! Will definitely plan a future trip to this restaurant and not wait for at least a decade!!!

Superb

By Connie J |

Food was delicious. The service was excellent. The atmosphere was pleasant and where we were seated was very nice. Will definitely, be coming back again.

Fabulous all the way around

By Christopher J. Lopatin Sr. |

Capital Grille was definitely a wonderful choice. From making reservations to leaving at the end of our meal. I took my wife here for our 5th year wedding anniversary and they smashed it out of the park. We were seated within ten minutes of checking in with the hostess. Which was fantastic. So I’d told them online when I made the reservation it was our anniversary and they decorated the table with heart confetti and a Happy Anniversary card. That was a great lil surprise then on top of that everyone of the staff that came in contact with us wished us a happy anniversary. But by far our server was absolutely wonderful and made the night that much better Will “William” was magnificent. He kept our drinks coming and definitely paid us attention he made sure we were great the entire time. Which as everyone knows is a fabulous thing when you’re eating out. He ran down all the extras that weren’t on the menu told us about the lobster tails and made suggestions. We started with the raw oysters on a half shell. They were great. Then myself I had the aged NY Strip which was simply delicious, melt in your mouth tender awesomely cooked to a medium-well and perfectly seasoned. My wife had the Tenderloin topped with lobster tail and an almost salty/sweet butter sauce. Of course we shared because that’s what this husband and wife do!!!! So I tasted hers and goodness that butter concoction over the tail and tenderloin was amazing!!!!!!! As I did she tried mine and loved the tenderness and taste of the aged Strip. Since the steaks are à la carte we had Lobster Mac and I’m telling you it’s the best I’ve ever had. Most of the time the combination isn’t correct to much cheese or to many noodles not enough lobster all of that mess. This was perfect and knowing a lot of the times it’s super super rich it isn’t always one of my favorites but this right here was spot on without a doubt. The entire time Will kept checking on us and made sure we had cold full beverages all the way to the end of our evening with him. He truly made the experience better I can’t stress that enough. So we were done and as always my wife had her doggy bag. But Will said please just wait a few minutes I have something for you guys. And boy did he!!!!! He came back out with a dessert dish with two different desserts on it and Happy Anniversary written in chocolate on the plate with a candle. Such a nice surprise and gesture. It was a Cheesecake brûlée style with strawberry’s and a strawberry sauce on one end and a Flourless Chocolate Espresso Cake with cocoa powder and fresh raspberries on the other end oh and fresh crème under the berries. Delicious and the presentation was awesome. Thank you Will for your wonderful service on our anniversary dinner truly appreciate you and Capital Grille for going that extra on our special night. Definitely recommend going and giving it a go for yourself if you haven’t been.

Great NY Strip

By ginaphilly2018 |

My steak was excellent...relaxing nice atmosphere...2 things i didnt like...the place was empty n they stuck me in a corner between another table n the wall...i asked to change n they did...and prices on the menu outside were different than the prices on the check. I told the manager n he said they changed the menu. I think he should of honored the price on the wall outside but my steak was so good that i didnt even care. Already it was less expensive than other steak houses in the area. I really enjoyed my lunch and i told them

Lunch

By GratefulMe |

We were looking for a nice place to have lunch right after our daughter’s college graduation ceremony and they had tables available In a short time so we decided to try them. Turned out really good! Food was delicious and service excellent. My husband had a salmon and salad dish and I had steak. The children had their cheeseburger with Parmesan truffle fries which they liked. All in all, a nice place to eat at a decent price.

Awesome Visit!

By Billy |

Sat at the bar and our bartender Alyson was incredible! Best drinks hands down! Stoli Dolis were the best around! Great vibe, great atmosphere, and friendly service are what makes a great time! It’s a shame our friends Jinnell couldn’t make it(pronounced gin-ull). Thank you Capital Grille!

Way Overpriced and Overhyped

By markbkeller |

Went there for 65th birthday as a present from wonderful sister and brother. First they wanted to put us in the kitchen. Then the hostess found what looked like a nice table.. However, there was a drunk group of men who were at a bachelor party and were loud and cursing. I go to many fine restaurants and do not mind the price if the food is worth it. In this case it was not even close. I feel very badly as it was such an amazing present. We asked the waiter if he could lower the other table but he did not, I believe because they were buying many drinks. If you want to hear yourself and not want a headache and leave hungry I do not recommend.

Downtown Philly

By kellybO1234AX |

Topped the evening off with a visit to Capital Grille, a lovely upscale eatery right in downtown Philly. My son and his girlfriend had the grilled steak, huge portions, I couldnt believe they could eat it all! I had the scallops that were prepared perfectly on a mashed parsnip asparagus. The scallops had that light crust which makes scallops so good! Highly recommend, but don't forget your pocketbook! ;)

Excellent

By retiredfrwork |

Met my cousin and friend in Philadelphia to celebrate my birthday. My friend made reservations and we were seated promptly. What a wonderful experience all of us had here. We all ordered the $20.00 lunch plates. For my starter I had the sweet corn bisque which was delicious. My main platter was the salmon with couscous. I was surprised how large the piece of salmon was. Just perfect. I did not like the couscous so my friend shared her truffle French fries with me. They were unbelievably yummy. Never had fries that tasted as good as they were. Since it was my birthday I was brought a beautiful platter of desserts. It was way too much for the three of us but we did manage to finish it all. What a perfect lunch the three of us had. Our waitress checked up all the time to make sure we were okay and if we needed anything else. Even the manager here came over to wish me a Happy Birthday and if everything was to our liking. Definitely will come here again next time I am in downtown Philadelphia.

Great place - that’s a given.

By R. Traveler |

Great place - that’s a given. I generally enjoy Ruth’s Chris. Had never been to a capital grill. Ive not been impressed with the steaks at Fleming’s and the doorman recommended capital grill. Very impressed. Jamie (server at the bar) was great - and very comical. The young lady he worked with also ..... phenomenal. I had a wedge salad and a burger. Both were nothing short of amazing. The steaks looked to be well cooked and I will try one next visit for sure. Also .... tried their special .... pineapple martini as well as multiple high end whisky’s. They were great.

HIgh-end steakhouse

By FrugallyPicky |

This isn't my typical place to have a meal but I went for a birthday. It's an a la carte steakhouse so be prepared to spend close to if not more than $100 per person if you get an appetizer, drink, entree and a side. They offer a few signature cocktails that I wasn't too impressed with so wine may be the best option. I had the potato and leek soup - there were no potatoes in the soup (not sure if that's on purpose or if they had already scooped out all the potatoes for other patrons. The broth was very tasty though. My date had the lobster bisque which was on special and said it was delicious and had plenty of lobster meat. For our entree's we got the bone-in filet mignon which was on special and the pepper crusted NY strip. Both were VERY GOOD! Oh, the sides we chose were brussel sprouts in some type of soy sauce with bacon and the garlic mashed potatoes - both were also tasty. The ambience is a little dim so I'd say it's more of a date night place than a place to hold a business meeting. Overall I was pleased with the dining experience though. Oh and we parked a block away in the Wanamaker garage - very convenient.

Still one of the best

We Were pre gaming for the Sting concert and figured we would do it in style. The capital grille has been one of our favorite for the past 20 years. The steaks and sides are always outstanding an Danny is one of the best waiters in the city. Our favorites are the Kona crusted sirloin, bone in filet and the porterhouse. The Brussels sprouts and creamed corn special are great while in season as well.

Great Meal & Service

By Willowvacay |

Where we live there is not upscale steakhouse, so while on vacation we always like to take advantage of eating at one. Since our hotel was across the street we decided to go to the Capital Grille. Just like other Capital Grilles the service and food were excellent. I had a ribeye sandwich and my wife had a NY Strip, both were cooked to perfection.

In town for a concert

By Scot S |

We met 4 others at the Grille and had reservations for 6. It was crowded but we didn’t wait 3 minutes before we were sat down. The waiter was very personable as well as the wine server. They made you feel like royalty. The food was amazing. We had the seafood starter tower and it was extremely fresh. Everyone had steak and I do not believe there were any leftovers.

Nice evening out!

My wife and I had dinner at Capitol Grille before a show in Philly. Really nice place and atmosphere, especially before hitting a show. We both had steaks and they were cooked perfectly, very tender and juicy. Actually the entire meal was good, from salad to dessert. Would def recommend for a nice dinner before a show.

Watch your belongings!!!

By Mark S |

The food was great. The service was great. MY wife's bag was stolen from her seat. We were seated on the main aisle. A women stopped behind my wife's chair and picked up a pocket book from the floor which I assumed was hers. As she was walking out I asked my wife where her bag was and it was gone. I chased after the woman on Chestnut Street and got the bag back. In the bag were her wallet, keys, and a $350 gift card for dinner. The waiter and staff came out with me. The waiter told me it happens all the time and that bags and iPads are stolen. If that is the case why didn't they tell us to be careful of our belongings? Why is someone just allowed to walk around the restaurant like that without being seated or taking to the bar? Why isn't the staff more aware of this? I will never go back to this restaurant again.

Terrible experience

By Jeanette S |

Assuming this would be a fine dining experience was a big mistake. My waiter seemed annoyed that he had to be there. He barely spoke and didn’t even tell me the specials but worse was the food. I ordered a med-well steak which was crunchy but inside raw (see photo) the creamed spinach was awful. I might have told the waiter but he didn’t seem to come around til I was finished. I just wanted to go. I left sad. I’d hope the experience would have been memorable.

Amazing dinner at a relaxing atmosphere!

I'm a regular here, but Restaurant Week was a real Disappointment!!

By 856TravelBug47 |

I go to Capital Grille several times a year, usually to the Cherry Hill location, sometimes to Center City. I LOVE Capital Grille. It's always been my go to restaurant. The seafood tower is my all time fav and the NY Strip. When I saw the Restaurant Week deal, I was excited and grabbed up a reservation. My husband and I took our children (ages 19 and 23) with us. Restaurant Week is less expensive, but the downgrade on food quality, portion size and service made the meal just NOT WORTH IT. Our waiter was friendly, but not a "professional" waiter. When he took our order, he made us give our dessert order with the food order. I've never had to do that before at a high end restaurant. I asked him what wine was being served for the $10.00 restaurant wines--He said he had no idea and made no offer to check for us. When we were served, we were given one really small side of mashed potatoes, and one of string beans, for FOUR people. We each got one tablespoon of mashed potatoes and around 4 string beans. SERIOUSLY-I am not making this up!!! I found the waiter and said said something. He said, "I know, they've gotten really cheap". He brought us a small dish of extra potatoes, but still only about 1/2 a serving. The steak were, without question, lower quality that what I usually get and we soooo rare, that even our family who like rare meat, could barely eat them, The creme brulee was delicious, as always. Our bill was less expensive than usual, but at $285.00, I expect more---even for restaurant week. My husband and I had reservations with another couple for next week. We cancelled them. Not sure it's my go to place anymore--- Disappointed.

Family Diner

The Capital Grill in Boston is an steak institution from the service staff to every item that we ordered from the menu.

More than a GRILLE !

By Theresa M |

Everything about this place is amazing, the décor, the staff and mostly the food...........great choices that even the most picky people can be satisfied. Definitely will return.

Not too bad, but not exciting

By Dirk D |

Went there with a colleague after a long day. Atmosphere good, maybe a bit noisy. Had lobster tails, good quality and well done. Ordered a bottle of wine and it took them 15 minutes to tell us they don’t have it anymore. Would have expected some recommendation here. Instead wine menue was left on the table. The guy never came back, needed to ask someone else after another 15 minutes. So overall an average

Fabulous dinner made better by Restaurant Week

By David S |

Our family of four treated an international student from Burundi to a great dining experience at the Capital Grille. We love the fillets and during restaurant week the $35 price for a three course meal is one of the best options in town. The chocolate torte for dessert had to have been the best one I have ever had. I'd go back just for another one of those!

A Wonderful steak house!

By cchevrier2016 |

I was there on a sunday night and I had a tremendous evening. The food quality is only matched by the staff' s professionnalism. The steak was one of the best I have ever eaten & the choice of red wine was excellent. All in all, I had a terrific evening for less than 90$ wich makes it a very afordable experience. I will definitely be back next year!

Great food would visit again!

By Eric22645 |

Walked in and were seated immediately. Basket of different types of breads which were all good! Limited menu and fairly expensive but worth the money! I got to try a little bit of everyone's food at the table and it was all delicious. Worth the stop! Lots of great restaurants in Philadelphia so I wouldn't make a second visit.

Classy atmosphere, good service and good steaks

By Smertios |

This is a very nice steak house. Wood paneling, portrait paintings, nice tables and great service. The caprese salad was very good with excellent balsamic. The rib eye steaks were good, tasty and cooked perfect medium as order, but I would have preferred a thicker cut. Recommended.

A Great Thanksgiving Meal

By William M |

This was our second consecutive Thanksgiving dinner at the Capital Grille. We had a large group (12 adults and four children). Reservations were at 6:00 -- we arrived promptly and were seated promptly. The service was exceptional: courteous and informative. Pace of the meal (drinks, salads/apppetizer, entrees, coffee and dessert) was perfect. Not rushed. Our meals which ranged from lobster to aged strip steak were all greeted with rave reviews. We will keep the tradition going next year !

Nice place for lunch

By Katherine H |

My friend and I NEEDED lunch. Capital Grille was great. They had a $20 dollar lunch special that was lovely and convenient. The Chef actually brought out lunch and we had a chance to talk with her a bit. Chowder and grilled salmon for my friend, Filet Mignon sliders and chowder for me...presented beautifully, nice quality with pleasant surroundings in the dead center of Philadelphia. I find that places like this are underused during the day..Why not have lunch at a table in a good place in the middle of the week?

Not a friendly service, food is over scored

By Wolfgang M |

The service was not really friendly and just professional. I just was seated without a word. The food was served rather quickly ( the NY Strip was dry and more than medium as I ordered) and 5 minutes after I finished the check was given. All in a rush. This restaurant is over scored.

Worth Every Dollar

By Ken F |

I visited this restaurant with my partner to celebrate our anniversary. Wanting a special place, he selected the Capital Grille. From the moment we were seated in the smaller room, the service given to us by Kelly was exceptional. Every course from appetizer to dessert was delicious. The steaks were cooked to perfection and the lobster mac and cheese was one of the best I have tasted. Kelly stopped by our table from time to time to inquire about our meal, always with a smile on her face. I highly recommend this outstanding restaurant for a special occasion. Ask to be seated in the smaller dining area. There is much less noise here.

Excellent Business Dinner

By Burdett P |

We attended dinner here for business. This is a classic steakhouse. Waiters wore uniforms. The sommelier offered excellent choices of French and California wines with the meal. Sides are served family style. Although it is a steakhouse, my wife and I both chose grilled salmon with green beans and they were delicious. All wait staff exhibited professional service. This was a great experience.

long wait

By maguiree2016 |

poor service warm entree unable to see a manger about a few issues. Also reluctant to accept gift cert that was a week outdated. Willing to wait for atable we desired but hostess was not cooperative. I would not return for any reason unless the bill was on capital grille

Good steak

By PickyglobetrotterUk |

Popular steak restaurant. Friendly waiting staff and food was well cooked. Decent, if pricey, wine list and ambiance. Cost about $125/head with an $85 bottle of wine.

Great restauran! Great food!

We have nothing but complements everytime we go to the Capital Grille. The food is superb, the service is excellent with very courteous an professional servers. I wonder how the servers remember all the different specials for the night! We truly enjoy going to the Capital Grille.

A Thanksgiving Dinner not to be thankful for

By wddj |

My brother has MS and just moved from NY to Philadelphia. He is confined to a wheelchair. My immediate and extended family came to Philadelphia from Central PA, Baltimore and Florida so we could all be together for the holiday. Because of my brothers handicap we had to celebrate our Thanksgiving at a restaurant. We chose the Capital Grille because of its wonderful reputation. This was my first time patronizing this restaurant and I fail to see how they got this reputation. We were a party of 13, 5 of whom ordered the turkey dinner. None of them ate their meal. They said the turkey was so dry and the gravy was thick and gelatinous. I had a salad and the lobster crab cake appetizer. On the menu it was indicated that this appetizer served 2 people. Not that it mattered because they were so salty and dry but I would not consider 2 silver dollar sized cakes an appetizer for 2. Those who ordered steaks did enjoy their meal. The Capital Grille is a steak house but they should not offer other choices if they can’t prepare them correctly. What was more disturbing was that the bathrooms were not conducive for a person in a wheelchair. The stalls were so small we could barely get the wheelchair close enough to the toilet and we couldn’t get in the stall with the wheelchair to help my brother stand up. To say the least it was a very disappointing evening. We will not be returning.
