Absolutely amazing!

By SeattleMermaid |

I work at a local 4 star hotel and am always looking for great places to recommend - especially for brunch! This was my first try at the Carlile Room -other than for drinks after a show. I was honestly amazed! Sure- it IS a Tom Douglas Restaurant- and he has an impeccable reputation, but it is often difficult to make brunch exciting....one more "salmon eggs benedict" - Northwest Style- no way! MUCH more exciting- had the avocado toast with pecan flax bread, poached eggs. greens and beets and grilled corn. SO Fresh and tasty! My friend had the cheesy grits with crispy pork belly-loved it! We wanted a sweet to top it off and split the most decadent banana bread french toast strips with caramel sauce and whip cream! Need I say more! My NEW favorite place and will recommend to everyone!

Less is More

By Jason D |

I went to The Carlile Room for dinner by myself last week. It was highly-rated on Yelp, and boasts handmade pasta, so I decided to give it a try. I ordered a tomato salad, with locally-sourced tomatoes, and a pasta dish with homemade noodles and spring veggies. The tomatoes in the salad we quality, but they we're drowned out by the three large dollops of pesto that commanded the dish. It was enough pesto to make three, well-flavored pasta entrees. It destroyed the tomatoes. The pasta dish finally arrived after a half hour, in a nearly empty restaurant. It was a congealed mess of noodles, veggies and herbs. All of which would probably have been fine if the dish had been served fresh, or had not taken so long to assemble. This is one of many Tom Douglass restaurants in Seattle. As often happens in restaurant empires, quality suffers. The night I dined, it seemed as if there was not a chef in the kitchen, inspecting the quality of the dishes before they went out. If there were, I doubt he or she would have allowed such quality ingredients to be disrespected so completely. I didn't make a big deal out of it, but the manager clocked my disapproval when I pushed my pasta aside after two bites. She politely listened to my critique and surprised me with a $30 gift certificate and asked me to give them another try. I may have just been there on a slow, off-night. I believe this restaurant has the ability to be all that it's reputation suggests. I would only hope that they approach their excellent ingredients a little more simply.

Great food. Ok drinks

By RetiredDude |

Excellent food. Great service. Ok drinks. Visited on a Tuesday evening around 6pm. They were very busy but our party of two was seated promptly. The food here is awesome. I had the chicken and let me tell you I should had ordered the smaller portion. Simply wasn't able to finish the entire plate. My daughter had the pasta which she really enjoyed. She followed that up with an order of fries. Again, top notch eats. The service was really good especially considering how busy they were when we dined. The atmosphere is eclectic but relaxed. They have an ok selection of brews, wines, and mixed drinks. I had beer with my dinner and followed that with a mixed drink after dinner. Unfortunately that is where they fell a bit short. The drink was so heavy with bitters and smokey flavor that you totally missed the rye taste at all. Lighten up on the bitters and smoke and you'll have yourself a nice cocktail bar. Would return for the food but not the drinks.

Great place for brunch across from the Paramount

By tuscany885 |

I have eaten brunch here several times before going to matinee productions at the Paramount. I keep coming back for the food and drink, but I also love the retro vibe, the friendly, funny servers, and the DJs playing tasteful old vinyl. There are unique options for gluten free diners, vegetarians and omnivores alike. There's even a "fancy breakfast" which is French fries and champagne. Reservations are important, particularly prior to a show. I recommend this place for something a little different and fun.

Very average brunch

By BulldogBilly |

This is the worst Tom Douglas restaurant in his portfolio. Not sure who his target customer is because the food is extremely average and the prices are as high or higher than his very best restaurants.

Terrific downtown lunch

By Hystericalhappiness |

On a Friday at 11:30 we walked in without a lunch reservation. Nice booth seating or you can sit at the bar. This has a nice NYC vibe. The server was very friendly and efficient. I loved my turkey kale salad. The infusion of flavors from the smoked turkey tenderloins, crispy chick peas, and the dressing made this the perfect meld. It was such a large portion I brought home for 2 more meals. Nicely priced sparkling rose. I peeked at the dessert menu which had a wide array from fruit to chocolate selections. I would highly recommend.

Really enjoy their menu options!

By Pamela L |

The Carlile Room was recommended as I was heading across state for a Seattle weekend in the city. I looked at the menu and liked their dinner menu options. Why don't more restaurants allow the diner to choose portion sizes? The beet and grapefruit salad is fabulous, with a great combination of flavors. I wanted a steak, and the small filet was perfect. I am a small woman. Usually when I order a steak, part of it goes home with me for a sandwich the next day. This is not always wanted when traveling.

Delicious!

By Pamela L |

I stay at the Hyatt Olive 8 and love to dine around the block at the Carlile Room. My most recent meal was excellent. We shared a delicata squash appetizer that was inspirational. (Since coming home, I have been experimenting with versions inspired by the Carlile dish. I was happy that the filet has been restored to the menu. It is most delicious and I love the option of the two portion sizes.

Interesting atmosphere, awesome food, great drink menu

By Lyndsay B |

I ate by myself around 8pm and had no problem getting a place to sit with no reservation. The bar staff were great and immediately got me a drink and recommended some things from the menu. The food was very flavorful and unique. The dessert was AMAZING...I had a key lime pie with frozen strawberry cream. So good.

Poor service with great food

By Bruce S |

We had our Mother's Day dinner after the matinee at the Paramount. This was our first visit. Our reservation was for 4pm and the restaurant was not full, but there were many people coming after us from the show. We ordered the sharing veggie plates as starters and they came out very quickly. Unfortunately after that we waited nearly an hour for the main course. Amy, our server, told us the steak our daughter had ordered was taking some time to cook. All the tables around us were served before us, despite their arrival after us. I asked Amy if they could send anything out if it was early as my daughters were starving and cranky. Nothing was ready yet. We were finally served and the food was great. The rotisserie chicken was moist, and the beans and sauce with it was perfect. The other food smelled great. My only complaint, and it is a big one, was my frustration with waiting so long to get our entrees. The server did not offer anything to hold us over while we waited. To top off the experience, they automatically add 20% gratuity to the bill. I was not told they were going to do this before so I was surprised and disappointed. I would not have tipped the full 20% if I had had the option. I really liked the food but good service is really important too. Don't charge me 20% for poor service.

Brunch was great

By Sydney Skipper |

We enjoyed a pleasant brunch. Awesome friendly staff. Some tasty and healthy brunch food options (check out the avocado toast - yum). Coffee and bloody mary's were good.

Fabulous twice

By LilysMum0723 |

I love trying new places and I love it when they turn out to be fabulous, which the Carlile Room was. First for dinner with clients, were we shared the small plates then each had an small entrée. All the meals were fabulous. I tried it again for lunch again with clients who were retiring and they went out of their way to make it special. So far so good, no complaints, staff was excellent attentive without being smothering. Nice change to the normal fare you get these days.

Great food and very busy

By bobnu75 |

Went during Seattle restaurant week and was very busy for a Tuesday night. No reservation but were seated in about 15 minutes. Got menus right away but not acknowledged otherwise for about 10 minutes. Finally a waiter came over, not sure it was his table, and started our service. Although I didn't think it was a long wait for how busy they were, he brought us an appetizer compliments of the house. Food was great and a bargain as part of the restaurant week menu.

Very limited menu

By rkatao |

Went here before a musical at the Paramount. Food was good but there are really only 6 or 7 entree choices. The appetizer menu is over twice as large. Drinks were good as was the service. Not sure if I will go back based on the other options downtown.

If you want a cool place with incredibly tasty food then .....

By Jeff |

Come here Service was on the money. Knew his menu and was passionate about the food Take their recommendations on the veg dishes. To be honest the meat was secondary (as it was originally meant to be) so don’t be afraid to go all out on apps and go small on the mains A must when you go to Seattle!

Unique menu, great cocktails

By SeaTraveler15 |

The location near the Seattle Convention Center’s Summit Building and the Paramount Theater make this an easy place not to pass up. The menu is unique, family-style and delicious. Recommend it for those who like a little more adventure in their dining lineup.

Great Happy Hour

By Margaret D |

After walking past the Carlile on numerous occasions, we finally got to a Happy Hour before 5.30. Their choice of drinks & snacks allowed for all tastes & did not disappoint. They were delicious. Their full menu has a wide range of choices too.

Nice Mothers Day Brunch

By Phil S |

Good brunch menu. Cool atmosphere. Nice staff. Appropriately sized portions. Will definitely return for dinner.

Cocktails only this time

By Erika T |

We went both before and after a show, just for cocktails. Each was magnificent and excellent suggestion for a non menu drink by Danny (?). Plus have a signature drink and money is donated to a Brandi Carlisle charity. Did you know the restaurant was named after her??

Great concierge reccomendation

By EjwEsq |

Looking for a place at 6:30pm on a Saturday night, we asked our concierge at the Grand Hyatt and he told us about the Carlile Room across the street and up a few blocks. He described it as "farm fresh" where you select a number of things from an eclectic menu. He called over for us and made sure there was a table, and we took a nice wlak up a few blocks. This place was definitely "funky" and the staff was clearly "hip" and knowledgable. I am anything but hip and funky, but I do enjoy a good meal, and this was perfect. Because it is "farm to table" and everything is cooked from scratch, to order, my wife was able to find foods that would not offend her food allergies or aversions. Great roasted cauliflower appetizer, fantastic fresh veggies, and I had a mind-blowing burger. There are plenty of things on the menu, in a variety of sizes, so you can share, or not, as the case may be. This was a fantastic find and highly recommended. Right up the street from Pike Place.

Fabulous food.

By MaryAlida |

Great go to place to meet with some one after work. Unusual and tasty selection of appetizers. Healthy vibe. The menu features 3 sections - appetizers, plants, and meats. Highlight- roasted cauliflower! The decor/vibe is a higher end but with the Seattle laid backness. Funky ode to the 70's. Love the art installation that is outside this restaurant- a collection of Seattle highlights through a huge collage.

ARE THEY KIDDING ME??!? BEWARE....20% MANDITORY SURPRISE SURCHARGE??!?

By Rena V |

I did not eat but sat at the bar for a few drinks. I read the food reviews are good but you will pay a HUGE premium not only for the meal but,...to my shock,..a 20% (OMG) service charge tacked on. THIS IS ABSURD!!! (I did not read this anywhere but on the bottom of the bill with a long explanation of paying employee health insurance, 401k, access to health insurance and continuing education for career envelopment [WTF],...AFTER,... I believe this to be very money sucking and unethical and over the top MONEY GRAB). I politely asked someone about this and why are customers not told about this PRIOR to ordering or staying and she went on to a lengthy explanation of all of the above benefits for their employees. I told her that that is the companies responsibility and believed why should customers also pay (their prices are already/still very very high) for THEIR employees benefits over and above their very high prices. She also told me it was for good service. I then informed her that,....THIS IS FOR THE CUSTOMER TO DECIDE WHETHER THEY GAVE GOOD SERVICE OR NOT,....NOT YOUR JUST TAKING THE MONEY AND ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU DO NOT INFORM THE CUSTOMER PRIOR TO THIS BILL/SURPRISE. She did not say anything to that. So beware,...unless you have funds and don't mind giving it away,...be aware of the 20% surcharge that is the highest I have ever seen,...ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. The food may be good and worth the money,...but I resent not being told of the over the top, greedy surcharge they have awarded themselves with. HEY CARLILE ROOM,...YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW THIS IN THE FOOD INDUSTRY,...BUT IT IS THE CUSTOMER WHO DECIDES IF THE SERVICE IS GOOD OR NOT AND HOW MUCH THEY WANT TO GIVE AWAY. IF YOU ARE A CANADIAN,....STAY AWAY,...YOU WILL BE PUMMELED MONEY WISE.

Superb evening meal.

By MattCarolineUk |

Superb evening meal. Had the big veggie plate which ended up being one of the best meals I’ve eaten in some time. Great venue, superb staff and exceptional food. Couldn’t recommend enough, particularly if you’re a vegetarian.

Bar with good food

By eirikn0rway |

Went for a burger (late dinner) and beers after a overnight flight. Good service, but the bartender forgot to send the food order to the kitchen - so the food came after 1h15m... but the bartenders made up for it!

Select menu but it’s all delicious

By Dianne D |

This is a great choice for lunch or dinner in downtown Seattle. Good wine list. Treat yourself to the hush puppies with duck mousse. Absolutely amazing. For dessert the pot de creme is dreamy. Treat yourself.

Enjoyable

By The Pedestrian |

This is a fun eclectic good eating restaurant. Our server Autumn was happy to help us. We came in at 10pm to enjoy music played by a DJ. They're "After Dark" menu was available. The "goodburger" was too good. The burger was perfectly cooked. The cheese, grilled onions and mushrooms rounded it off nicely. The fries were addicting. Also eaten by my companion was "beef tartare", enjoyed as well. They have an a large "plant" selection of food items, but the carnivore is also most satisfied..:). Thanks for reading. Fun Place to hang with friends

By LillyBee |

Stopped in here on the recommendation of a bartender from the previous spot we were at and were not disappointed. The 'Book of Booze' came in handy for our evening and we had lots of delicious drinks and fantastic service. Very cool atmosphere with a buzzing vibe. Everyone was super friendly and fun to be around. Will return if the opportunity ever arises.

Good Tapas Meal

By maddie59 |

I recently dined at the Carlile Room on a Thursday evening with 3 other business associates. The restaurant is right across the street from the Grand Hyatt and up about a half a block on Pine Street. We did not have reservations so we had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. The place is very nice inside but a little small. The concept is that the dishes will be shared among the table. Our concierge described it as a place where the vegetables are the center and you order meats as a compliment. We started with the Duck Fat Hush Puppy appetizer which was excellent. We also had the Johnson co ham starter as well and it was very good. We sampled a 3 cheese plate which was excellent. For the main courses, we had the roasted beets and the roasted cauliflower as our vegetables. We added the Pork loin and the filet mignon. With the meats you can get a 4-8-12 oz portion. We had the 8 oz portions. The roast pork was excellent as it had a little kick from the chorizo. The steak was grilled very nicely and was very tender. The prices for the pork and filet were $29 and $35 respectively. The vegetables were also very tasty. I like the cauliflower (and I am not a cauliflower fan) the best but the beets were very good. Those were each $15. Our server was very attentive and it was a very nice meal. Not cheap but a nice meal in downtown Seattle is often a little pricey.

Fabulous happy hour

By Lucy M |

They have a great happy hour with delicious cocktails and a $6 salad that is just the best salad I've every eaten. The atmosphere is can be a bit noisy if they're busy because they're not huge; the decor is a great mid-century modern throw back; and the service has always been great, kind and attentive.

I recommend the veggie platter

By hazel r |

It's not far from the Washington Conference centre which is handy. The food was really good. I recommend the veggie starter platter. I also had steak which was cooked to perfection and had a garlic sauce to accompany it. Really tasty. Someone reviewed below about a 20% surplus charge but they clearly don't understand that waiters in America literally live off their tips, so I would not agree with their review at all. Even drinks at a bar, Americans always tip for everything.

Noisy, delicious pre-game for the Paramount

By Lora F |

Went Friday for dinner with friends. Special menu items to celebrate the show at the Paramount -- and lots of pre-show diners creating a festive atmosphere. Our server was timely, just frequent enough without being disruptive, and she made some lovely recommendations. The hearts of palm, carrots, chicken, pork loin, and brussel sprouts were delicious -- flavorful, tender-crisp, tender appropriately to the dish. Tom Douglas & co have done it again! PS the Broadway gin & tonic was my first dabble with orgeat. I'll be back!!

My favorite Tom Douglas joint

By sabos93 |

While I enjoy and appreciate many of his restaurants, I must admit to a little Tom Douglas fatigue. Though different from one another, his restaurants excuse a familiar "gestalt" that make them easy to overlook. But ignore them at your peril because Tom Doulas can still surprise, which was my lesson when I discovered that The Carlyle Room is now my favorite Tom Douglas joint. The decor alone is amazing. A perfect contemporary revival of 70's modernism makes for a really nice vibe, and an enjoyable place to hang out. But that's just the eye candy cause the menu is a treat unto itself. A wonderful and creative selections of appetizers, meats, and vegetarian options that deliver wonderful variety and flavor, alongside a liquor selection that's sure to please. You had me at "Book of Booze." I don't know why I waited so long to go, because this place is going into my regular rotation.

Amazing and delicious

By 808_Ikaika_C |

WOW, is how I am going to express how I felt eating at this place. It was a cozy place for myself and enjoyed the atmosphere. As soon as you walk in, you’re greeted by a hostess in which they had a smile. We had reservations and were quickly seated for a Saturday evening. Enjoyed a very delicious meal with my cousins. I am a foodie and I truly enjoyed the flavors offered in each of the dishes. We started off with a couple appetizers, to which I enjoyed the duckfat has puppies which was AMAZING! From the meal portion, I enjoyed the corn and beets meal. It was so flavorful and perfectly seasoned. Who knew you could enjoy beets more than a salmon or a meat entree. And for dessert the coconut cake was perfectly made and not so fattening. It was nicely fluffed and not overpowered by coconut. The bathroom was also nicely decorated with gold mirrors and sink. It was just nicely decorated inside and out, that I am going to return on my next visit to Seattle! I have no cons for this restaurant, which is the first for me to say, as I always have con, but this experience was truly the best.

Highly recommend

Our family of four (2 teens, parents) really enjoyed our dinner. Food was so good-especially their ceasar salad. We made reservations and were sat as soon as we arrived. Comfortable, cool vibe. Service was great, too.

Service Needs Work

By brmusicman |

I was in Seattle on business and staying nearby, so I headed her for a late dinner. That is a nice part of the establishment--they are open very late every night, which I appreciate as a business traveler. I had no problem getting one of the high-top tables near the bar. I did have a problem getting good service. A server came by and poured water. And then I waited. And waited. And waited. Several staff members passed and all seemed happy to ignore me. Finally, a bartender came over and said "you look more than ready..." and took my order. My food was served reasonably fast but my original server never came by to ask how I was liking things, etc. I anticipated better service at a Tom Douglas establishment. The food was OK. I began with the grilled halloumi. The cheese itself was good, but it was served on a plate with acorn squash that was grilled to a crisp; it was so tough in some spots that you couldn't even chew it and had to spit it out. That is not the execution level on the food I expected from this restaurant. I had the carrots for dinner; it was a substantial portion and I enjoyed the flavors, though I thought they could have used a bit more acid. Overall, a nice vibe and good potential, but 1/2 dishes was disappointing and the service was poor. But don't worry--my check had 20% gratuity automatically built-in. The server who had basically ignored me throughout my meal made sure to inform me of that when presenting me the check. Seattle has a lot of great restaurants; I'd say you are better off elsewhere, especially as a solo diner.

Good food and fun atmosphere

Varied menu with good wine choices. Our vegan companion felt she had lots of choices too. Definitely worth returning. Hear they have a good happy hour too.

Carlile Room amazing vibe

By lynna956 |

Pleasant surprise after an evening at the theater. Drinks creative hand pour, nibbles and bites perfect. The staff were amazing and smiling and engaging. Will be back!

Keep walking.

By dsheon |

Disappointing. Ridiculously overpriced. $38 for a Ceasar salad with an uninspired piece of salmon on large uncut romaine lettuce. Kitchen is completely inflexible - simple requests to leave this or that out to accommodate a food allergy "oh no chef won't do that" was said repeatedly. They need to get over themselves. If this place didn't have an incredible location it would have been shuttered long ago.

Cosy room. Great location. Healthy options.

By krayon59 |

Cosy room. Great location. Healthy options. But: Taking an unloved dish off the bill is appropriate and doing so with grace is key. The barely veiled hostility of our server made the remainder of our stay shorter. The chicken arrived tepid and transparent in areas. Red and gelatinous near the bone. When pointed out our server’s assertion that it was “fully cooked and that this happens all the time and we won’t get sick from it” dismisses the point that it was not enjoyable in this form. I think brined as it was quite salty, but it should arrive piping hot and just cooked through. While he took it off the bill he was pretty unhappy about doing so. The automatic 20% tip here is not necessarily objectionable. But it may affect whether the server feels they need to be gracious about an unloved dish. Hostess not to be painted with same brush and I will give them this: more than 50 restaurants had already closed in Seattle re the CoVid-19. This one too will close in a couple days. Fear and tension are running high. The lost revenue likely makes a difference and I wasn’t counting on sending anything back. It was offered and accepted. We wish for everyone in Seattle and Washington- the whole USA and the entire world a speedy recovery both in health and economic circumstances. We ❤️ all the hard working people facing uncertainty and want you to succeed.

Best of Tom Douglas - Great Food

By georgem107 |

We went as a group of 10 to celebrate a birthday so we shared all of plates. We tried every vegetable dish and everyone was wonderful! We had something for everyone's tastes, and absolutely nothing was left over. We were fighting for the scraps. The menu is heavy on vegetables with meats as a secondary, and unneccasary addition. Well worth a lunch or dinner, go for it!

Best roasted chicken, ever!

By DarlaMann |

Interesting décor. Lots of specialty cocktails. Great food!!!!! Loved the roasted chicken and the strawberry salad. Excellent service too. Business traveler. Recommended.

Carlile Room is amazing

By seatownbry |

Excellent food, the ambiance is wonderful! Service is fantastic! Harriet and Hao (and everyone else) are so welcoming and there’s attention to every detail. Love the Tom Douglas company and this is one of, if not my favorite in the company.

Excellent Choice for a Pre-Show Meal

By Mike W |

We were attending a show at the Paramount Theatre. The Carlile Room is directly across the street, making it very convenient. The atmosphere is generally good. The food was well-prepared and very good. Service was excellent. Fish was prepared just right...moist inside, very flavorful. Menu selections were varied and enticing. We would eat here again.

Superb staff

By Pol P |

We really enjoyed visiting here - the staff are superb and were extremely welcoming to a family of Brits! Lovely food too, especially some of the more unusual dishes which staff recommended to us. If we visit Seattle again we’ll definitely come back!

Awesome!

By Photodude45 |

Old style classic dinning in a hip atmosphere. We had the Greek fries and the Pork. Delicious! The service was excellent and prompt when we needed our water glasses refilled. We thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the atmosphere at this classy restaurant. Highly recommend it as a go to spot before you take in a play at the Paramount.

Fabulous Happy Hour

By 206GlobeGirl |

I have been here twice now for friends/client happy hour. Great wine selection. Incredible apps. The poutine and curried carrots were my favorite. Dessert was ro die for.need to come back to try the dinner selection. Incredible service.

They made us happy.

By 38th&Noriega |

I’ve enjoyed about a half dozen meals at various Tom Douglas restaurants. This was without a doubt my favorite. I wish I could have sat there all night eating the tempura squash blossoms and fairy eggplant while drinking their martinis. Loved the beets and the ling cod was outstanding. Our waiter Daniel was great. Great job.

Great location, good food, mediocre service

By Eric V |

The Carlile Room is located in downtown Seattle kitty corner from the Paramount Theatre and near lots of shopping and other activities. The place has a small bar and the restaurant is also on the small side but this adds to the atmosphere being a little more intimate. We made reservations via Open Table and were promptly greeted and seated upon arrival. We waited about 10 mins for a server to finally come to the table and she was very friendly and bubbly. She knew the menu well and after a brief explanation of how it worked including the 'Book of Booze', she took our drink order and left us to decide on the rest. We weren't in a hurry which is a good thing because the drinks took a while. When we arrived there were a few empty tables so I wouldn't say it was hopping that night. Drinks were excellent and we quickly ordered food the next time she came by. The menu consists of a set of vegetarian sides that were all locally sourced and a selection of protein. The sides were designed to be shared so we ordered two and I had the Filet Mignon and she had the grilled tuna. The 'Book of Booze' had a good wine selection at reasonable prices. It took a while once again for the food to arrive but it was worth the wait. Steak was prepared as I wanted it and the sides were delicious. After another wait to have the table cleared, we ordered desserts. There was no quality check on the food during dinner. Dessert took more time than anticipated and when it was brought, the food runner set it down and left. I had no fork and he didn't bother to ask. The waitress finally came by and gave me a fork with her apologies. Overall, the food was fantastic but with the poor service, we won't be going back.

Can't go wrong with anything on the menu!

By Explorer_Gal2014 |

This restaurant is fantastic! A friend living in Seattle recommended it and said she's heard only good things about it and oh my goodness was it good! There were four of us so we tried a variation of the food. I'm a huge veggie fan so their "Plants" section was amazing. We also tried four out of five of their main dishes and everything was delicious. Even had enough space for the cheese board as dessert. The server was fantastic. Was able to recommend us some great choices! I will definitely go back when we visit Seattle again!

Nice atmoapire

By Oren W |

Nice place, good service but very very pricey. I paid 50$ for 8oz NY steak. and they also take 20% automatically in the bill

Easy to get to when staying in Seattle, nice restaurant..can be packed!

By Wklstoywife |

I must say that my husband and i were here for drinks one day a Carlile Cup (11.00) and a Manhattan (11.00). We had planned to go back later that night but we never made it since I fell asleep. We were going to go another time with a few friends but when we went it was standing room only and it was going to be quite a wait so we left and went somewhere else. The food actually sounds amazing and we hope to try it some day. I recently found out this is a Tom Douglas restaurant when i got my Christmas gift certificate. Also just an FYI, they have a 20% service charge added...100% of these funds are distributed to the team. Always nice to know that going in.

I wrote a previous review

By Lovetotravel7559 |

I wrote a previous review in which I stated the food was mediocre, and the waitress was abrupt to the point of being rude. I found the manager’s name on the website, and the manager responded immediately with an apology. They refunded our entire meal! I would give them another chance.

40th birthday dinner

By coycutie |

We came to the Carlile Room during a girls weekend to Seattle for a 40th birthday. We all started with the 5 cheese plate which was a good starter. From there the selections varied from a meat burger being split, a beyond meat burger being split and I had the rotisserie chicken. We were all really happy with our selections - the rotisserie chicken especially (because I’m the one writing the review). Our server was friendly and attentive and there was a DJ playing some great music. Would definitely go back!

Our spur of the moment dinner

By KJK5044 |

We were staying in Seattle for a five day visit. Later, on a Friday evening, we (two couples) asked our hotel receptionist for a local restaurant where we could get a quick bite to eat. He recommended The Carlile room. It was a short walk, and when we entered, the host, Ben, said he would try to find us a place since we didn’t have a reservation on a busy Friday night. He was able to accommodate us, and we met our server, Dave. He was very attentive, informative, and very pleasant. The food was delicious! We shared several appetizers and a main course. Everything we had was bursting with flavors. It was also Negroni week, and those were delicious as well. If you visit downtown Seattle, keep this restaurant in mind, you will not be disappointed. Delicious food and friendly, informative people make for an exceptional dining experience.

Open late for apres ( )

By Imhotep2 |

We stopped in after the show at Paramount. It was packed before the show... (Tuesday) Nice selection of drinks (not mixed cocktails which they have) and bar menu. This is a Tom Douglas establishment. Well run with competent and helpful staff. Had mixed vegetarian appetizers with our wine and beer before heading home after the show. Nice modern decor that is 'hard and warm'?

Different and delicious

By Melanie R |

We met friends for dinner. We like and appreciate the concept of big plates of deliciously prepared salads and vegetables paired with smaller plates of meat. Of the unique recipes, we tried the squash blossoms, paparadelle, kale salad, bread salad, filet mignon and salmon. All dishes were well-prepared and delicious. We also had a cheese plate and blackberry cobbler, which was the perfect end to a great meal. Cost did seem high.

Creative menu, high-quality, vegetarian heaven (but good carnivore options as well).

By Steve C |

Many menu items are "plant-based', but they also have carnivore options as well. Very creative menu that will not disappoint anyone in your party. I'd highly recommend the Giant Rainbow Plate - smorgasbord of vegetable dishes - super good. The Rotisserie Chicken was very moist and tasty, the Handmade Radiatori Pasta was excellent, and the Impossible Vegan Burger was a hit. All stellar dishes, no misses here. Also try the house-made Ginger Ale, a non-alcohol drink that I would drive here just to have again. Service was attentive and spot-on. I've found my new favorite place to dine in Seattle (and I eat out a lot).

Good cocktails, great food and friendly service. It was very busy because of Wicked's premiere. The staff was very helpful despite the high workload.

Great new place in town

By shuffleFairbanks |

If you like the Dahlia and the fine service you will love the Carlile. Same ownership. Wonderful fresh squeezed margaritas and key lime pie. Very casual atmosphere and fresh decor. Turkey is recommended in many different dishes..great staff

Our "go to" each evening.

By pac0450 |

We were staying across the street at an AirBnB. Got in late. They were open. Great food, even better drinks, friendly service. After that, we went back for a drink and a snack every evening to end our day. Surprisingly good quality dishes. Atmosphere is very laid back. Definitely recommended.

Dinner

By Ccox397 |

My wife and I had dinner here while in Seattle. We had the duckfat hush puppies, cod, and chicken dishes. We enjoyed our meals but felt it was overpriced. Our dollar went a lot further in different restaurants around town. If staying at the Paramount Hotel, it is a quick walk across the street.

Fantastic food and drinks; Wonderful service

The food and drinks were fantastic! I ordered the Rainbow Plate, I highly recommend! Our server was kind and polite, wasn’t overbearing came around just enough.

Need some work on the meat

By JohnHendricks6 |

Filet was hardly chewable. Definitely not a prime cut. Also suggest chef "regular" filet size should be 8oz, not 6oz. Good sauce. Good beer. Good service.

Great vibe and interesting food!

By chgotrvlr71 |

This hotel had a great vibe and great food. The menu was interesting and full of items I frankly would never usually get but I tried some new things. They were all flavorful and greatly presented. The rainbow carrot small plates with cashew butter was top die for! The pasta was interesting. Very flavorful! Had never had nooch before. Not really something I would try again but I cleaned my plate!! Staff was excellent

Typical of a Tom Douglas establishment

By Foodie |

Good service, aggressive (loud / busy) ambience and expensive (note +20% automatic tip) mediocre cuisine. Typical of a Tom Douglas establishment, eat somewhere else.

Great Vibe... Too Many Flavors

By dotteman71 |

I loved the chef's dish ideas, presentation was okay... the flavors where confusing at best. Which is unfortunate as we had High hopes for this little joint... it has so many cool things going for it. Service was good and very prompt. Like I said the food was not bad it was just too much going on all at once. My wife said, "I think they are trying to hard". Well said babe... well said.

AMAZING

By S G |

I went for a chefs dinner. It was a prefixed menu. I wish words could describe the amazing dishes. My favorite was a fig and lentil dish which I would of never ordered it was sweet, savory and perfectly cooked. Meat was tender and SO flavorful. Cocktails perfectly made. Service was relaxed and excellent. The decor was retro '70's.

Delicious and non-pretentious

By Ilana M |

The food here was fabulous and the service was fun and kind. We would eat here again and again. Very convenient for the theater. Well priced, too!

Delicious. Nice Menu - Good Vibe

By ALEX P |

Was here during restaurant week and had a 3-course dinner that was great. I had the steak as my main and it was cooked perfectly and was delicious. Others had the halibut and enjoyed it as well. The accompanying sauces were very tasty and the portions just right for me. The service was very attentive, but not overbearing. Location next to the Paramount and close to Convention Center make this a good stop for locals out for a night or tourists who want to explore a fine Tom Douglass restaurant. The table got 4 different desserts and all were wonderful.

Another Great Seattle Restaurant!

By John H |

This was our first time to this fabulous restaurant. The employees of this great establishment were caring and attentive to our needs. We are from Seattle and had some guests visiting our great city so we thought we would give this fairly new restaurant a try. We were totally thrilled with the outcome of the fresh food and very extensive wine offering. Don't miss out on this great place with a sensational ambience!

Tom Douglas does it right

By JAWF1SH |

We had some friends in town who'd heard of the Carlile Room and wanted to go there for dinner. Being a big fan of Tom Douglas, I was more than happy to oblige. The vibe at the Carlile Room is laid back and comfortable which is really our style. The lighting is dim and provides an intimate feeling. The menu was the right size and had a lot of variety, offering small plates. Our group totaled 5 and we decided to get multiple dishes and share. We started with a couple of items from the opener menu, the first being mulled wine poached pears. I could've stopped right there and ordered another plate (or two) of them and called it a meal. They were the perfect balance of sweet and salty with the prosciutto, some tang from the cheese and a nice crunch from the pistachios. Everyone loved them and we did end up getting a second order to share. We also had grilled acorn squash which was tasty, but had a hard time standing up to the pears. Next up were plates from the plant menu. The marinated beets were my favorite from this menu. While not as good as the pear dish, they were pretty fantastic. The grapefruit and Meyer lemon really balanced the sweetness of the beets. We had a potato dish that had blue cheese if I remember correctly and it was good, but not something I feel like I just have to have again. The final dish we had from the plant menu was the roasted cauliflower head. I was really excited to try this one because it is served in a lobster head broth, but it was a disappointment. It didn't have a lot of flavor and it’s not one I would order again. We each ordered our own dish from the carne menu and I chose the filet mignon served with mushrooms, truffle and an adobo pickled egg. I'm a big steak fan and this one ranked in the top 3 I've ever had. It was cooked perfectly (medium rare) and the truffles provided a deep, rich flavor that wasn't overpowering like I've found some truffle dishes to be. Others in our party had the rotisserie chicken and the pepper pot. I tried both and they were also very flavorful and something I'd recommend without hesitation. I myself would definitely order the filet again. Myself and one other person in the party don’t drink alcohol, but the others shared a bottle of wine recommended by our server. It was reasonably priced and they all really enjoyed it. We were all so full we just couldn’t do dessert, but the menu sure did look good and next time I’ll save room. That or I’ll just get another plate of the pears. Yes, they really are that good.

Good service; very tasty food

By DAEsmae |

We tried a variety of menu items and found them all good. Of particular note was the hanger steak, which was perfectly prepared and a little smoky - excellent! Service was good and reasonably speedy as well. Overall, we'd like to go back!

We'll eat here again

By SkykomishBob |

With all the great places in Seattle, it is always a "decision" about trying a new place or going back to an eatery we know we like. I'm sure we'll go back here the next time we are in Seattle for some days, particularly since we have since learned we get a 15% discount with our Worldmark key. Being a Thursday we did not expect finding a table would be a problem showing up around eight, but all they could offer was the bar. We explained we were meeting someone we don't see all that often so we needed a table and the hostess said she'd do her best. It was maybe 15 minutes before she showed us to a table and simultaneously our third party turned up. The food was great, and the small plate options made this meal excellent for us as opposed to just "very good." At an age where too much food and too much $ are both real factors for us, being able to enjoy a small plate of interesting, excellent food at $12 or $16 less than a huge pile of food that would encourage us overeat and/or feel guilty about sending half of it back, the small plate options are perfect. I was less positively inclined toward the wine options as they seemed pricey and not at all special. My glass of Viberti Barolo Barbera seemed more a "house wine" in an every day Italian restaurant than anything special, and I paid almost as much for a glass as I'd expect to pay for a bottle in a wine shop. Still, the food, service, and style of this place will bring me back. Each of our meals was excellent.

Come for the fresh food. Stay for the 70s vibe

By dmcoy |

Amongst the food, the drinks (oh, and those 'tini glasses are classic 1970s sized, y'all...), the music/dancing (!), and the fabulous wait staff (thank you, Mindy!), I think that was the most fun I've ever had on a 'low key' NYE. The husband and I had a fab time. On an another note, the creative and tasty brunch offerings are super highly recommended. Just know that it can be rather frenetic when there's a matinee at the Paramount, across the street. Oh, and for non-meat eaters: the husband is veggie and I'm borderline vegan, and there's STILL lots to choose from. And modifications seem to be embraced, as needed and when possible. And that is a good thing, indeed.

Creative Theater Menu

By Lizzy R |

This is definitely my favorite restaurant to go to before a show at The Paramount. The Carlile Room creates a special menu that pertains to the show currently playing at The Paramount. During my last visit their specialty menu ( food & cocktails) was for The Color Purple. For dinner I had Lily of the Field which was scallion-backed potato gnocchi. Oh my goodness I cannot tell you how amazing this dish was. I was nearly licking the plate at the end. I would love to see this on their regular menu, it truly was heaven! I also tried both featured cocktails, Shug Avery made with bourbon, mint and peach bitters, the second cocktail was Purple, The Color made with gin, tonic, pea flower, and lemon. Not only was it great tasting, but it was also a fun drink to look at! =) I will include a photo Another must on their regular menu is the roasted carrots. The service is always great. The servers are very knowlegeable and share their opinion if asked. It can get a little loud, but its tolerable. The bathroom is cool so make sure to check it out. Definitley make a reservation at least a couple of weeks in advance. Enjoy your meal!

Magnificent restaurant right across from the Paramount Theatre

By Kathryn H |

They make vegetables the star. This is not a vegetarian restaurant; but, the things they do with vegetables! At this restaurant, the fine quality meats are perfectly cooked and seasoned. The variety of vegetable dishes are amazing! I enjoyed the filet mignon with parsnips. The filet was fork tender. The parsnips were so delicious they could stand on their own - without the meat. When you go - and you should - choose one or two or three vegetable dishes and choose your meat as a side to enjoy the fantastic vegetables. This is also a great place for vegetarians and vegans.

Enjoyable Experience

By hndbgqn |

Visiting Seattle for a few days before taking a cruise to Alaska. We stayed at the Hyatt Regency downtown. Our first full day was Sunday and we researched restaurants that were open downtown for Sunday dinner. Found many were not open. We came across The Carlisle Room and made reservations. When we arrived we were seated almost immediately. We were very pleased with both the restaurant and the service. Having two grandchildren with us it turned iut to be a perfect casual atmosphere. The service was prompt and the food was delicious. We consider ourselves lucky to have found this place.

Carlile Room Disappoints with Overpriced, Mediocre Menu

By Connector60714349150 |

Overpriced food, amateurish service, cramped seating and entrance area. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED! Pros: ⦁ Complimentary champagne for our visit (anniversary dinner). ⦁ Chicken wings (starter) - flavorful and good ratio of meat to skin/fat/bone. ⦁ Chicken schnitzel (add-on for Caesar salad) - $15 but cooked well and flavorful. ⦁ Fries were decent. ⦁ Proximity to Paramount Theater (across street) - but honestly I would've rather walked a few extra blocks for better food/prices and service. Cons: ⦁ Strangely under-staffed for a busy Saturday evening. Management: hello? ⦁ Martini took 20 minutes to receive. By that time I'd lost my enthusiasm to order a red wine for my steak (which would've been a disgusting pairing anyway - see below). ⦁ Focaccia - boring sliced loaf, barely toasted, minimally inspired. ⦁ We weren't offered individual plates for our bread or chicken wings starter. Wtf? ⦁ Our server otherwise checked on us minimally. Busy night, yes -- but also maybe anticipate and staff your restaurant better? ⦁ Caesar salad - just "OK" and difficult to justify price starting at $20 without (!) any protein. ⦁ Steak frites - worst $50 fat- and gristle-ridden cut I've ever had; comes with funky gravy sauce and zero finesse. Bottom line: We'd hoped for a solid dining experience given the menu and other reviews, but instead we endured the food, service, and comfort of a B-rate wanna-be "grill." Tom Douglas should be ashamed of himself. Find another spot and thank me later.

Amazing service, delicious food

By Ben E |

A friend from Reykjavík and I went for "Taste of Iceland". The service was amazing from start to finish, even met the Icelandic chef preparing our food. The food was absolutely delicious, hope they do the same next year.

Fast and Friendly

By walthorticulture |

With the Paramount Theater close by, this is a great place for happy hour snacks/drinks or a light meal before showtime. We had a little of both from an efficient server who knew her stuff about the menu and drinks.

Really Good Food, Worth the Price!

By GaryReg |

We chose the Carlyle room due to the good reviews by both T/A and the Paramount hotel, where we were staying. It was a special dinner with my nephew who is in the process of moving from Seattle to Palo Alto. Although quite pricey the food was delicious. We started with six appetizers, apparently a new special they had, all veggie and cheese combinations, some roasted, some fresh etc. They were all great tasting! I had the Brisket with Grits which I surprisingly loved (lots of cream and parmesan is apparently the Secret)! My nephew had the Roast Chicken. My sweetie had a "Pasty" filled with roasted vegetables. Although she had ordered the full order, they made a mistake and brought her half an order. They made up for this by giving her a full order to take away when we left. This ended up being my nephews lunch the next day before he grabbed the plane.

Great dinner and service in a "hip" place

By TravellingDutchie |

We visited the Carlile Room as part of the Taste of Iceland dinner experience. The atmosphere and the place are great for an evening out. Very relaxed, attentive service and great food, courtesy of the guest chef from Iceland. We didn't try any food from the regular menu, but it looks pretty good on paper. We will definitely come back to try it out.

A Tasty Late Night Treat

By Amy T |

Due to flight issues and lost luggage we were late checking in to our hotel. The valet at Hotel Max suggest this as a late night spot for food. It ended up being one of my favorites this trip. Server was excellent, he knew the menu well and was able to give some great suggestions. Enjoyed a great kale (predictable choice on my part, great execution on their part) salad as well as a dish with some odd local seasonal mushrooms I have never had before. They were delicious! My dining companion enjoyed a foie gras and smoked cherry appetizer. I pilfered a couple of the cherries and they were very tasty. I really wish we would have skipped a couple other places and just headed back here. Oh-the DJ was fantastic!

Good location, good energy!

By CurtKwak |

The menu was very interesting, with "plants" being the star of the menu and the restaurant. The meats (filet & ahi) were a bit disappointing as they were average at best.. but you have to realize what kind of bar Tom has set for his restaurants already and you are competing with the likes of the Met, Mortons, Sullivan's, etc. their home made pastas were the stars with amazing cocktails.

Perfect location

By Maureen S |

I have been there several times and find it the best place for dinner before a production at the Paramount Theater across the street. In fact it is so close that the windows in the restaurant are designed to reflect the large neon sign at the theater. Also good for dessert or drinks after the theater. Experienced servers.

Perfect before and after show

By Wormtravels2016 |

We love the singer/namesake of this restaurant. It's sweet that Tom Douglas loves her too and it's fun to see her guitar on display. Otherwise the restaurant does not have much to do with local singer Brandi Carlile, though we were told she does dine there frequently. Brandi was not there the night we visited The Carlile Room but it was still a damn good place to hang out. We had snacks and drinks before a show at The Paramount and drinks and desert afterwards. Super handy since it's across the street. The atmosphere is good and so is the food. Interesting choices and all delicious. Excellent cocktails too. Service was good, we had to wait longer than expected for some items but there were apologies all around so no big deal. There was a DJ playing when we came back for dessert which was fun. My only suggestion is to throw a Brandi song or two into the music mix. We will definitely be back!

Solo birthday adventure

By Traci H |

Seriously thought I messed up! Navigating that area, alone.. But I did it and I'm so grateful. Brit Floyd concert across the street.. Carlile was perfect, they had a sweet table set up for me, drinks and a cheese plate was the perfect light meal.. The hostess was awesome. I will go back

High Energy, Great Food

By Tractor29 |

Ate here with a group from work. We each ordered a protein and shared some sides. The food was amazing. Don't miss the cheese plate!

OMG their food is to die for!

By Arthur |

It was our last night in Seattle. We had done some shopping at Pacific Place Mall and we were hungry. On the way back to the Camlin Hotel we stopped in and had a drink and some food. We sat up at the bar and the service was fast and the food was great!

Average

By travelfreak903 |

I was referred to this restaurant by my hotel concierge and was told they had a great food and an excellent ambiance. The ambiance was in fact incredible. However, the overall service, and food was nothing more than average. Out of all of the restaurants in Seattle, I recommend going elsewhere.

Spécial Place

By HappyRetiree721 |

We stumbled onto the Carlisle last night and will certainly be back. We went in for a cocktail after a performance at the Paramount theater and ended up with appetizers and dessert to boot. We settle in and found we were in no hurry to leave. The setting was perfect for our evening, and James, our server, was efficient and charming. We happily whiled away a couple of hours in the bar just chatting and soaking up the atmosphere. Give it a try (and don’t miss the scallop appetizer).

Brunch for Six

Went by for early lunch so we got to try breakfast too. Everything we tried was very good. Service was perfect.

Great After Theater Meal

By TravelSkeptic43 |

I'd checked it out a bit before my trip, looked interesting. Checked it out after our theater outing across the street at the Paramount Theater. Considering that 50 people walked in at once, the service was spectacular - it would have been good under normal circumstances, never mind that. The good was great - another Tom Douglas restaurant - he's slowly winning me over. My major complaint is that they have a DJ spinning records. The play we saw was the Carole King story. My wife and I are in our 50's, as were most of the others we saw streaming into The Carlile Room after the play. The music volume was marginally acceptable at the beginning, and got cranked to double the volume half way through our meal. At that point, it became impossible to talk, and we just wanted to leave as quickly as possible. That might be cool in a restaurant full of gen-x'ers but when it's a bunch of gray-hairs wandering in after theater - likely not a good idea. And as a small, but strange thing - I think they spelled Carlile incorrectly - everyone else on the planet would spell it Carlisle (including the spell-checker for TripAdvisor).

A must if you’re in Seattle just across the street from the Paramount Theatre.

By Dan Austin S |

My granddaughter who lives in Seattle says d it was the best meal she has had in Seattle. And I agree the salmon was perfect and the salads were amazing. I had the rigatoni with squash it was perfection.

Location 10, Food 5

By jtfman |

One of the rew restaurants that are still open downtown, which is a plus. Service was friendly and prompt. Drinks were delicious if a little pricey. Food was a bit complicated with heavy emphasis on spice, sometimes to the detriment of the dish. And some of the dishes were quite small, without much in the way of sides. Next time I might go for the burger. Overall an okay experience but not great.

Very Yum!

By nancysmoose |

Fresh, crisp veggies... delicious dips...salmon and chicken cooked to perfection..nothing overcooked...and the apricot brown Betty with hysopp ice cream was OMG yummy! The staff, from the hostess to the waitress, were welcoming and on top of everything! You've got to stop on by if you're in downtown Seattle. They have small plates and entree sizes, also. I'm going to be dreaming about that Apricot Brown Betty...fresh apricots mind you, with hysopp ice cream...it tastes like pizzelles...Yum!

Rude hostess, terrible service

By Melanie G |

We have been here several times after the theater and I think I'm done. The hostess just can't handle the stress of people coming in at this time. No grace, no smiles,no welcome, just "The line starts outside (in the cold and rain)but there was no line, just us". There were plenty of seats at the bar and tables. It's too bad that a nice place can be soured by the staff they hire!

Enjoyable

By Dipti S |

Great service. Good food. We had drinks and spiced fries plus the chowder.we enjoyed the experience.would recommend.

OK food for a premium price...

By gutdoc1982 |

The staff is nice as well as the ambiance, but our Alaskan halibut and pasta entrees were mediocre at best for a premium price with a fixed 20% gratuity. There are MUCH better meals with greater value very close by. With better fare to justify the price, this restaurant could be very nice.

SRW dinner

By Bill P |

We went to The Carlile Room for only the second time since it opened. I'll be back after tonight! This Seattle Restaurant Week dinner was memorable. For $32, you get a appetizer/salad, a main dish, and a dessert. We had a cauliflower/kale dish that was fantastic and a Brussels sprout dish that was very good. My wife wanted a "virgin gin-and-tonic" and was pleased with her tonic water on the rocks and I had a tasty French Chardonnay. For the main course, I had the wild whiteleg prawns with more cauliflower and she had a beautiful piece of halibut with potatoes. These dishes might not sound exciting but they were wonderful. Our waiter was excellent and very knowledgeable of all details about the dishes. We finished off the meal with a chocolate cake budino, a coconut flan and macchiato. Overall, one of the most creative and enjoyable dinners I remember. Kudos to the chef and to Tom Douglas for hiring her/him!

Breakfast Destination

By maryofmassachusetts |

Reunited with friends just in from the airport for the Sunday brunch menu. The delicious mimosa was our first choice, large size was enough for 4, our waiter Michael was helpful in suggesting. Maybe menu could indicate serving size for other customers. We enjoyed the atmosphere. Across the street from the Palace Theatre, just before showtime, so quite crowded when we arrived. Open table reservation, and front desk very accomodating to a change we made. Automatic 20% tip. Maybe some additional specials, brunch menu somewhat limited and for someone who loves Eggs Benedict -would love to see an adaptation of that on the morning menu. Great food experience here.

20% "Service" Charge!

By Vancouver_dan |

As you can guess by the title of this review, I was not thrilled to see a 20% service charge added to our bill. I did not notice any reference to this in the menu or on the door, and our server did not mention this at any time. I am usually a good tipper, but I believe this should be a choice - and if not, at least guests should be advised up front. We missed dinner before the Amos Lee concert at the Paramount Theatre and made a beeline after the show to what appeared to be the closest casual restaurant in the vicinity. The atmosphere was pleasant as was our server (although we had little contact with him after we placed our order). There were more expensive options on the menu but, given the late hour, we selected burgers with fries. A week later, I couldn't tell you a thing about the burgers - so unmemorable would be the best description. We also had chips and dip - which consisted of basic potato chips for $12 (not sure if made in house). I had two glasses of craft beer - glasses, not pints or sleeves - for $7.00 each. My wife had a $13 glass of wine. The total was $65 plus 7.50 tax and a 13.00 service charge = 85.50. A bit steep for what was essentially a late night snack. I would not go out of my way to return.

Each dish a competition of flavors

By stpeters |

You may find your favorite dinner here, but I found the dishes a bit overpowering. My son and I each ordered beef, and granted I usually like a simple beef preparation, but his filet mignon came in a pool of oniony sauce and my sirloin flap was competing with both blue cheese and a savory sauce. A side of fingerling potatoes also piled on the flavors. The side of a roasted head of cauliflower was more subtly flavored, which helped balance out the other strong flavors. The service was fine, contrary to some other reviews.

Great choice for before or after show at Paramount!

By kslstl |

Really loved the Veggie Sample Platter. Quite delicious and unique! Good cocktails and wine. Great service and atmosphere. The $18 scallop small plate with 2 scallops cut in half seemed pricey. Otherwise, really good!

Fantastic Brunch

By HarvT2014 |

Stopped in for Saturday brunch morning, September 16. Our server was Kelsey who went the extra mile to provide good, friendly service. We'll be back!

Get the grilled cheese!

By Kelly W |

We stopped by the Carlile Room after watching the Book of Mormon. The Mitt Romney aka grilled cheese, was amazing. Also had the cheese plate, and calamari. Everything was equally tasty, but I'm a huge grilled cheese fan.

Fun retro decor with great food

By JustSomebody |

Very creative dishes that were delicious during restaurant week. The place has a very comfortable vibe while serving meals you'd expect in a much stuffier atmosphere. I loved it and will go back. I wish I'd known about it when I went to the Paramount for an event a few weeks earlier! It's far above any other dining in the vicinity. Enjoy your veggies - they're every bit as good here if not better than the main course!

Incredible Meal!

By Christa_Rocks |

Went with a friend for a taste of Iceland dinner, and it was one of the most amazing meals I've ever eaten! 4 incredibly delicious courses expertly selected and paired with regional Icelandic spirits. If the regular menu is anywhere as good as this was, you're in for quite a treat!

Didn't make it past the front door

By TrixieD717 |

We tried to visit on a weeknight, as walk-ins. They seemed somewhat busy (but not full), and I understand that can be difficult to accommodate, but the hostess was rude and nasty about it. So we went over to Ruth's Chris and dropped $500+ and had a grand time.

Bar seating cozy & drinks were fantastic

By GoPlaces278820 |

I dined here for a work meeting & he food was delicious. We couldn't get a table at the time we needed due to a concert across the street. However, bar seating was comfortable & the food was delicious. It's fusion & they experiment with vegan as well as meat dishes.

An awesome place with very friendly staff and a great menu

By cindy b |

We were in Seattle for an event. We parked in the lot by the Carlile room while we explored the city. We walked to the freeway park and down to Pike Place and the waterfront. We got back to the restaurant as it was just opening. It was happy hour. We enjoyed our meal and the wait staff were very friendly and attentive. I Definately will return for more meals when I visit the city again

Wonderful dinner experience

By tmarty0207 |

This was the first visit to the Carlile Room for my wife and I. We had heard the food was very good, so wanted to try it out. We had a reservation, and no issues getting seatted on time. The menu changes every day, we were told, and there were some interesting choices. Everything is a la carte, so we ordered a salad to split. "a simple salad". It was a mixture of greens and some parmesan cheese, with a light dressing. It was crisp and fresh and a good start. We also got the "salt roasted fingerling potatoes". They were very good, with mushroom cream, smoked cipollini, sage pesto, hazelnut, and mustard sprouts. They had a unique flavor. My wife got the filet mignon, which she usually gets when she can. She was very pleased with it. She got the regular size, as it was 2 pieces and was satisfied. I got the Pepper pot, which is basically a cioppino. It was also very good, although not quite enough quantity of seafood. We finished with a couple of desserts, which shows we still had some room. They were both very good. One was the caramel apple stack cake, and the other was the roasted hazelnut & maple pie. The "cake" was the better of the two, because it was not too sweet. The service was good. I liked that multiple servers came by to take the orders, clear the plates, bring drinks. So we felt we had their attention when needed.

Would definitely return here, menu has good selection. Polished service by very competent waitresses that know the dishes well. Food portions could maybe a little more generous.. I had the pork but was still quite hungry afterwards. My friend had the steak & my partner had the burger. It's not cheap but I guess you pay for the location and ambience. Would still go back again though!

Nice atmosphere and drinks

Great place to meet friends have a couple of stuff drinks from the cocktail mend and relax. A few food offerings that are adequate but not the highlight of the place.

The cocktails are creative and the food is tasty. If you’re in the area this is a good option. The staff is helpful and attentive.

To sum it up in one word: Why?

By SeattleDSpar |

First things first: the food is decent, no question about that. But why would Tom Douglas open a place in such a pedestrian setting? To quote Gertrude Stein, there's no there there. Yes, there are some creative minimalist touches on what to do with vegetables, but one is left somehow unsatisfied and longing for more intimacy -- with the food, with the setting, with the staff. It's all a bit cold and, well, lonesome.

Wonderful food!

By Susan A |

Chef Dezi is a very creative chef and everything he makes tastes so good! The presentation is stunningly artful! Dezi may just be the best Chef in Seattle. This is not a white tablecloth restaurant and the decor is eclectic in a very playful way. Ingredients are organic, locally sourced and seasonal. Located across the street from the Paramount Theater - a music venue, the menu is often themed accordingly. The menu on Larry the Cable Guy night definitely offered some redneck food for instance. During our visits we have had grilled heirloom carrots, asparagus and crab, coconut prawns, seared tuna, The Hunter Breakfast (served after 10 pm. (It's named after Hunter S. Thompson). Steak, eggs, toast, fries, grapefruit, pastry, pie, coffee, milk, and a Bloody Mary. It's huge and I know I've left something out. On a recent visit, the theme was The 80's. The DJ played 80's music and drinks included Jell-O shots. Coconut shrimp were to die for! At any rate, go eat at The Carlile room! You'll have a great time and enjoy some great food too!

Birthday Dinner

By WAMZSEA |

Party of eight to celebrate a belated birthday and everything was fantastic!!! Our Server (I forgot his name) was so friendly and accommodating - really offered advice on what to order and how to order. Wine pairing, of course, was great! Everyone enjoyed themselves and singing the praises of the restaurant (and us for choosing this venue). Thank you The Carlile Room for a wonderful evening. We will definitely be back soon w/ an even larger party! Cheers!

Excellent experience

By MichelDavidoff |

Started with wine and the server noticed I was not thrilled about it, so he brought me a few samples and made sure I was happy. I had a couple of appetizer dishes, both were excellent. The seasonal tomato salad had only perfect tomatoes- enough said! The fava fritters were basically "falafel" with fava beans rather then garbanzo beans, experience to the palate - a must if you go. Could not resist the turkish coffee ice cream dessert. I will be back.

Deeply average.

Average, disinterested service. Deeply average food. Great location for a bite before a concert at the Paramount, but even so, we found it overpriced.

Unimpressed

By Seattlegirl720 |

Finally had a chance to check The Carlile Room out. But sadly we were simply unimpressed. We have liked/loved many of Tom Douglas's restaurants and although we didn't dislike what we had we also both walked out stating there would be no reason for us to return. We went in for a happy hour drink and bite to eat. I had the pulled pork sandwich and my boyfriend had the chicken wings. Both were fine. We ate it all. But neither of us said, "wow" or "great" We took a look at the dinner menu as well but again there wasn't anything there that made us say let come back and try it for dinner. The atmosphere is not very warm or inviting either. The space is a bit small. The bar is just a counter when you walk in. The staff was nice I'll give them that, but no reason to go out of your way for this place.

Fab food and service

By Kathy S |

This restaurant is definitely open for business!! Had the chicken special for two. Great value for $45 including a bottle of selected wines. Great service as well. Definitely recommend for a Sunday night when limited food options are open near hotels. Very close to Paramount Theatre and Hotel.

Racism service

By DayTrip49849213211 |

Today. Saturday Aug 16th at 6:53 PM I had the worst experience in the Carlile restaurant from two people and a bit of a run in with the door lady. Upon crossing the street from the Paramount to the Carlisle restaurant as we approach the door, they were five people waiting. We got in line. I step forward to ask how long the wait would be the lady at the door said she could see me right now. I informed her that these people have been waiting and I'm not wanting to cut in front of them, I just wanna know how long the weight it's going to be at that point. The lady said we're leaving. This is ridiculous so the party of three left that left the other gentleman and his wife which we stuck up a conversation with they were from out of town and we're going to see Buddy Guy at the Paramont, which is where we were going also, we decided to sit together in the restaurant however we ended up at the bar four seats from them I told the waitress small gal about 5 feet tall blonde hair that I wanted to buy drinks for my friends down on the other end and she said we don't do that here I said interesting, so I left it alone. My partner ordered a drink with vodka, gin, and rum, which she didn't like he made the complaint that is very little alcohol in it, and it takes like Sprite the manager happened to be at the east end of the bar dealing with another two people who were unhappy with the long wait as soon as he finished with them, my partner asked for a different drink do the fact that there was very little alcohol. In the first one. The manager took a straw, tasted the drink, as if what he was saying, wasn't true and then told him it's not supposed to taste like alcohol at that point I chimed in and said I'll tell you what just make him another drink at that point the five foot tall blonde waitress waitress chimed in with a snide attitude, remark saying I made that drink right and I said excuse me we're trying to figure this out over here and the manager told me not to talk to her like but it made no point to reprimand her for the snide remark with attitude, at that point I pretty much had enough and told him to bring another drink, which is what you should've did in the first place and we wouldn't be having this conversation my partner took a sip of the drink a second time to double check the quality and the manager said oh you like it, my partner repeated no I don't , at which the manager said I'm gonna have to charge you for that now. I said we're done here. I'm not gonna wait for my food. We're leaving. He said oh you have food. I said not now after this experience, so I got up went to our two new friends. Explain what had happened and why we were leaving and they said that waitresses is not making the drinks quite right ours don't taste right either. It's funny how you drink something for 10 years and you can tell when it's off nevertheless we left. We enjoyed the show and all my years of going to the Carlisle. I never expected something like this to happen the semi bald manager with the I know better than you attitude who couldn't fix a simple drink issue turned into something that it didn't need to be. I've got another performance. We're going to see at the Paramount and I'll have five friends with me with me I want to take to the Carlile before the show. I just hope I don't have to deal with the same people. Ps. I've described the people in this disappointing complaint due to the fact that I feel this was highly racially motivated by the waitress and the manager. racism is a learn behavior and was very noticeable. It's hard to fix, but it is possible if we all work together to get rid of this type of hatred. Ivan Vladimir Barashkoff 206427

Modern but approachable food, classic Tom Douglas!

By Julia L |

We went for restaurant week and enjoyed the 3 course special. Unique dishes but nothing to eccentric or intimidating. Very fun environment, excellent service, was very busy so it can be noisy but its a very energetic vibe. Plate sizes are smaller than you might expect when dining out but I think that is intentional to avoid waste (people just dont take food home anymore! why not? i do!) But with the 3 courses we were more than satisfied.

Great Restaurant in downtown Seatle

By 98bradleyt |

Great Restaurant in downtown Seatle. Great service, great meal, great location. Several choices on meals. The Rainbow Vegetable Platter is super - best veggie plate I have ever seen. The fish was great too.

Food allergies, not a problem.

By Andrea R |

Daughter in law, has serious food allergies. So she can't eat just any where, Lauren was stellar helping her get the best meal out in ages. The chefs are amazing, they know what they are doing and cooked wonderful things for all of us to enjoy. Hubby had the filet which he cut with his knife. The steak tartar wonderful, my salmon delish. Son had the disco burger, he was very please. The fries were yummy too. So many interesting choices, like the garden plate. It was hard to decide what to try. To all the staff, thank you for a very special meal. We will visit again, cheers.

Current pandemic incarnation is more a bar menu concept

By JSWKingsfield |

Have enjoyed coming here since 2016, missed Tom Douglas' restaurants during the pandemic closures, was delighted to see the announcement that The Carlile Room was reopening. Rushed over the first week it resumed business. Am relieved that some of the prior wait staff was here, the service was excellent, the drinks refreshing and creative. However, I feel compelled to flag that the pandemic reopening menu is not what it used to be. Gone is the "Plants" section of the menu, the card is stripped down to an elevated bar list. The duck fat hush puppies were excellent, the pimento cheese dip was good stuff, but I found myself missing the duck mousse that used to be on the plate. The calamari were fine, hot and crispy, but something I can find in many other restaurants in the area. The chicken schnitzel were two very large breaded medallions that arrived hot and crispy, with a porcelain cup of mustard on the side. The menu promised arugula, and that is exactly what arrived -- a handful of arugula on the side. That was it -- a pile of washed, dry greens that was not even dressed, this wasn't even a "salad." Overall, what was presented was an uncomposed plate of food, no garnish on top of the medallions, and no starch or anything else on the plate to actually complement the "schnitzel". I would have been much happier with a single medallion of chicken with some roasted potatoes or some rice, a drizzle of sauce would have gone a long way, or even sticking a medallion in a soft sandwich roll with the mustard and dressed arugula inside, would have been a huge improvement. We did have some fries, they were a bit limp and under seasoned. My husband's hanger steak was overdone. I get that the organization laid off nearly everyone for more than a year, and (re-)opening can be rocky in the best of times, but apparently they are too painfully short-handed in the kitchen to pre-roast some vegetables and potatoes as side dishes. The ambiance of the place makes it a good stop for drinks and some bar food, but advise you check the menu online before you come to get an idea of the limited offerings. I know from past experience that this organization is capable of fine dining, here's hoping for more of the excellent fare that used to be here.

Great Family Experience

By cranberryAli |

My husband, 5 year old son, and I went to the Carlile Room after an event at the Washington State Convention Center. It is quite an easy walk from there. All of the staff, the hostess, waitress, and chef were engaging, fun, and informative. Crayons and an interesting art collage to color were provided to my son. We all enjoyed coloring together. I had the roasted chicken with brussels sprouts, hummus and Turkish chili. It was delightful. My son enjoyed his Parmesan pasta. My husband shared a plate of vegetables, which we all found tasty. Interesting options are available for digestifs. Many options were available for gluten free and lactose free diets. We will certainly return.

Carrot - a - palooza

First time to the Carlile Room and it was amazing. Canadians so of course we had the poutine and it didn’t disappoint. But the roasted rainbow carrots were special. Have them and enjoy. Oh and the old fashioned is well spectacular.

This Restaurant was recommended by the Front Desk staff and Concierge at our Hotel

By William A |

Fantastic. This eating house is the epitome of what Seattle to Vancouver is all about. Locally sourced food. Outstanding Pinot Noir from Oregon. Great staff. If in Seattle you must try this place. The four of us walked away thinking what a great evening Highly Recommended

Good atmosphere, food and service

By Emma H |

I visited here in unusually snowy weather in Seattle and this was probably why the service was a little slower than I expected. Having said that, the atmosphere and food were both good. So overall a thumbs up! Nice impossible burger!

Fun, hip locale for some drinks and dinner

By Amy B |

I stopped in here solo on a work trip for dinner and was able to snag a seat at the bar. The Carlile Room gets crowded early--from sitting near the host stand, I'd recommend you make reservations even on a week night, because it sounded like people needed them. Atmosphere was what I'd call "upscale divey"--heavy on retro-dive decor but in reality it was totally planned rather than truly a remnant of a bygone time. I had two different cocktails which were both very good. One had two types of rum, and the other was a salty grayhound. I also had two small dishes for my meal--the half order of salmon, which was REALLY good, and the kale Caesar, which was merely pretty good. The salad had chickpea croutons (kind of like soft falafel balls) which I enjoyed a lot. This was a good dinner with good service in a cool-looking place. I'd go back.

Good food, slower service

By Brandy P |

Nice decor & ambience for business dinner. Food good, but selection limited. Service a bit slow. $110 for two.

Limited dinner options but extensive bar

By punjipatti |

I stayed at a hotel close by and walked over for a light dinner. They had an extensive cocktail and beer menu. My cocktail with gin was OK - nothing great. The pasta with turmeric butter was good though the half plate is really quite small. Paying $5 extra for the full plate might have been better option. It was delicious though. Expensive place that adds 20% service tax to all bills.I wouldn't go back again as I don't think I got value for my money.

Love this place!

By JRSutton25 |

Best cocktails in Seattle! My girlfriends and I met here for drinks and appetizers last week. Besides the hostess being rude, everything went great. The brussel sprouts are a MUST! I also had the most delicious kale salad I’ve ever had- great food and atmosphere!

Good for Pre-Show at Paramount

By walthorticulture |

This was our second time here for a bite before a silent movie at the nearby Paramount Theatre. Both times we have had excellent service and excellent food. The happy hour burgers and fries are delicious. The home made spaghetti for our son and the falafel salad for our daughter-in-law were enjoyed as well.

Great starters, disappointing mains

By Steves_Rickshaw |

The starters were great. Creative and tasty. But we were disappointed in the mains. The brisket was very fatty and the steak had no flavor. Then had a couple wonderful desserts to save the meal. Really nice fun atmosphere.

Inventive, flavorful fare in swanky lounge setting

By JSWKingsfield |

Tom Douglas' latest foodie restaurant is conveniently located across the street from the Paramount Theatre, and a short walk from the Convention Center and the downtown Seattle retail core. Atmosphere exudes a late 1960's lounge vibe. Long bar spans nearly the entire length of the restaurant, lots of music. Live DJs some nights, the occasional live act on weekends. Menu is modern, inventive American melting pot. For example, the pork belly starter, featured 2 generous slices of roasted pork belly (one slice on the soft side, the other more crisp) on thinly sliced peaches, almonds, with a fruited chili sauce, delicious stuff. Duckfat hush puppies were nuggets of corn-based goodness, and astoundingly good with duck mousse. The watermelon pickle slivers that accompanied the duckfat hush puppies were a nice shot of briny flavor, but didn't really mesh that well with the fritters or the duck mousse. The second part of the menu is titled, "Plants," and features a long list of vegetable centered dishes, not all of which are vegetarian but can be made vegetarian by request. The third part of the menu, "Carne diem" is a relatively short list of meat and fish courses, many of which can be ordered as a smaller "side" portion. I ordered a "side" sized portion of the beef filet with onion jus, truffle sauce, green onions, and it was ridiculously tender, full of flavor, and plenty of meat for me. The central concept of the dinner menu is to pick several dishes from each of the 3 main categories, to encourage sharing plates among a party of 2-6 people. The hard part with this menu concept, is finding a balanced combination. Everything we had was daringly different, full of interesting combinations, but it can be difficult to find a palate-cleansing counterpoint within the rather strongly-flavored menu. Be aware that there is a lot of background music piped in from the overhead loudspeakers (the place is named after the singer Brandi Carlile), and the space tends to be noisy, so if you're looking for a quiet spot, this isn't it. If you're in the mood for a creatively-prepared meal that looks like food (molecular gastronomes need to go elsewhere), The Carlile Room offers splurge-worthy fare in a trendy lounge-like setting.

Delicious food!

I had their cheese grits. Amazing! The location of this restaurant was right around the corner from our hotel. A little pricey, but the food was excellent.

Best of Seattle yet :)

By J F |

Was in Seattle a few weeks back visiting family. My aunt picked this little gem for our group of 6 (plus a baby) before heading to the King and I at the Paramount. The whole farm to table concept isn't new but DAMN do they do it right. The veggie courses are family style which lends to a much more familial style of service and dinner experience. We ordered roughly 13 plates all in all and had a blast. The hot mushroom salad was by far the winner. The cod was beautiful and the (idontrememberthename) Seafood stew (reminded me of a cioppino) was truly sublime. I'm in the industry and what impressed me most was that while none of the dishes had anything to do with each other, we just mix and matched our choices, nothing was ever bland or overly salty. That takes talent and speaks of kitchen crew. Autumn was our server and was an excellent guide throughout our experience. Great job y'all.

Happening restaurant in walking distance of hotels

By Kathleen P |

Small plates for meat and fish, with innovative sides make for a tasty and affordable (35$ per person) dinner. Roasted carrots and a 3 oz filet were well cooked. Kinda loud, but I guess saying so says more about me than the restaurant!

Delicious!

By lchelsea |

Great menu and booze list. Great selection of bourbons! The servers were very friendly. However, everything came very fast. We ordered a drink and appetizer...before we even barely started on the appetizer our entree came. We kinda felt rushed so didn't get a chance to order wine with dinner. I would have given 5 stars if not for feeling rushed. The pork and fried green tomatoes were absolutely delish!!

Great food, but noisy

By Mark Olson |

I was there for Wednesday night dinner with five friends. The food was excellent. I had the best chicken schnitzel I've eaten and a really nice blueberry corn salad. (The pot of creme dessert was only so-so.) It was an excellent meal. The big downside is the noise -- it's a noisy place and it was hard to hold a conversation.

Disappointing experience

By Lin01Seattle |

T,his was our third time at this restaurant and we were excited to take our neighbors here prior to a theater performance. Based upon our two previous experiences, we were anxious to reorder our favorite menu item - eggs and cheesy grits. However, this time was very disappointing - no cheese in the grits, consistency of watery oatmeal, pink in color and tasteless We will be trying an new restaurant for our pre theater dining.

Pretty solid experience

By Gigi-N-Gage |

Another visit with overall very pleasant experience. I think it is a solid place to take guests to. They have changed their menu quite a bit from the last time I was there. They had an empanada that was amazing but sadly they didn't have that any longer. We had the Halloumi appetizer, the warm cauliflower and kale salad and the the "world famous" onion rings. We ordered the onion rings with some skepticism but they were actually delicious along with the aioli they were served with. I am not a huge kale fan but their preparation was very enjoyable. The halloumi was good as well. It had different characteristics depending what you got in a bite. Something was very smoky and there was an element that was spicy as well. We also had the chicken that was quite enjoyable. My husband waited until 10:00 pm to order the Hunter's breakfast and he pretty much died and went to heaven. It was amazing to see and he thoroughly enjoyed it. My criticism of the evening was that the speakers sound pretty crappy and the music is loud enough that I found it annoying. I do look forward to going back in the near future.

Fantastic Find for a Great Meal

By metrochica |

We had dinner here on a recent trip to Seattle. The food was delcious. We had great Old Fashions and then shared the marinated beets and goat cheese. My husband got an impossible burger, which actually tasted pretty much like a real meat burger except that is was entirely veggie. I enjoyed the handmade radiatori pasta dish. Dessert was a chocolate peanut pie which was extremely yummy. The place had great ambiance and friendly friendly waitstaff.

Pre-theater drinks

By Deborah G |

We had reservations 2 hours before the show. We were greeted warmly and seated right away. Throughout our visit the service was slow. There were people receiving their food before we did when all we ordered was two appetizers and drinks. Their French 75 was weak however their Fur Coat was a robust, flavorful cocktail. Our food was delicious as we shared a plate that had smoked salmon pate and a delicious vegetable pate. The proximity to the Paramount Theater can't be beat!

Tom D. broke down and opened a tourist trap

By LesDye |

We used to live in WA and became big Tom Douglas fans. We do still return to Seattle every year or so and when we do: we also hit a couple of Tom Douglas's joints. We saw the "Side B wine event" advertised so we made reservations. It was a bit confusing, because it really wasn't an event at all: it was a promotion. Even the hostess seemed clueless about the Side B event. Regardless, our party of 4 really did enjoy the wines and food, but when we left after spending $200+ feeling still hungry and not satiated with the wine experience either. They use generic, small bowl CR (looks like the Colorado Rockies logo) logo wine glasses with all wines. When I'm paying top dollar for wines, I guess I expect more than a cheap wine glass. Beyond that, it was a roudy, loud atmosphere, despite having 6:30 reservations. Up to now, I've never been disappointed in Tom. I think I'll stick with his other establishments.

Nice atmosphere and great food, but a 20% auto tip.

By AJfromSeattle |

Went to the Carlile before the performance at the Paramont Theatre (right across the street). Really nice experience. The people there are friendly and engaging and were certainly aware of our need to get in and out so we were not late for the performance. Wine was reasonably priced. We had appetizers (Duckfat pate - it is very very good) and wine and great. It is a restaurant you can actually hear someone talk to you without using sign language. A little disappointed as they tack on an automatic 20% tip - didn't think that was too classy.

Nice happy hour and prix fixe

By DAEsmae |

This is a nice place to spend happy hour, with decent appetizers and drink selection. The homemade chips and dip is surprisingly good and keeps me coming back, but the cheese plate, the duck fat fries, and so many other things are also good. On show nights at the Paramount you can’t really hit a happy hour but they have a price fixe menu for 2 or 3 courses which is a good value. The steak is really excellent. They have a number of desserts that are good - the best is a fun peanut butter and banana dish you can add bacon to; the cherry pie is also good. Although I love affogato that was a disappointment here - very non traditional and served with biscotti that falls apart. It’s a nice downtown spot!

Fabulous food, great environment

By Slklvk |

This restaurant is directly across from the Paramount Theatre and only a few blocks from the light rail station. The food is really fabulous and very interesting. We enjoyed the Great Northern cocktail, a specialty of their own invention. The staff were all terrific. And don't miss the panda cotta with blackberry puree and fresh mixed berries for dessert.

Nice dinner option near the Seattle Conference Center

By MichiganMom71 |

We popped in without reservations and were seated immediately. I had the beef cheek with potatoes and mushrooms and my husband had the burger. Both entrees were good and we ended up taking food back with us. Server was fun and attentive.

Good food at Carlile

By Titita10 |

It is a good restaurant and the waiter was really nice. The food is good, maybe more kinds of bread would be great. It is a nice restaurant for few or many people. The price is high for what you eat. Strange kind of dishes

Lively and contemporary

By Sandy N |

A lively and happening place, we came here for lunch on a Sunday. I imagine it really draws a crowd during the week. The food was good, with the exception that my eggs were on the lukewarm side versus being hot. Our waiter was attentive, if a little overly theatrical. We'll try going back some night.

High quality delicious food

By sarahY8302VC |

Went here with colleagues for a business dinner. We started with the roasted haloumi and also the carrots. I followed it with a filet mignon, which was exquisite. Highly recommend.

Very cool bar and restaurant before the Theater!

By chrisDTW |

This place is perfect for before the theater drinks and dinner, as it is directly across the Paramount Theater. It's got a hip vibe and cool retro décor and friendly bar staff. I've gone twice this month, and was excited to see that their menu featured a section called "PLANTS". As a vegan, all looked good until you see that cheese or bacon is added to the vegetables, which doesn't make it plant based food anymore. There are a couple vegan choices, but I would advise staying away from the "Chickpea Fritters", which sounded good but were dry and bland and pricey at $15. The next visit, I tried the Impossible Burger (plant based burger) which unfortunately came on a non-vegan bun and the burger was overcooked and dry. Improvements to the plant based menu would be very much welcomed! Looking for a nice white wine, I strongly recommend their delicious Roussanne, which is set a bit high at $16 a glass though. Further, this restaurant participates in the MANDATORY 20% tip added scheme, which is unfair to the wait staff and the guest.

Mixed feelings

By Robert of the North |

I visited the city for the first time last year, and I visited twice. My friends and I enjoyed our meals, but they were pricey for what you get (entree with limited side servings). The environment is very open and dimly lit with a modern design feel. A sure positive was the service - our servers and bartenders were fantastic. We had fun discussions with them, and one bartender gave several of us some special gifts related to the band. The main reason I chose the Carlile Room is because Brandi is my favorite singer/group. I had heard a lot about the restaurant and was excited to check it out. When you enter, there is a personalized guitar from Brandi to Tom on display. After that, there are a mere handful of other Brandi-related items around. I found the lack of other things disappointing. Tim's wife Hanna has taken amazing concert shots. Why not frame a bunch and put them up? Why not put some pieces of memorabilia from the band members around? Brandi, Tim, Phil, Josh, and Brian could create their own menu item or drink to be featured. I don't expect the place to be a shrine, but there are so many more cool things they could do to truly live up to the name. Then it would be worth visiting during every trip to the city.

Great place for Happy Hour

Stopped in here a number of times. Had dinner which consisted of shared plates...loved the flavours and the different techniques used. Also friendly service. Recommended.

Average brunch

By Roary |

We were catching a matinee at the Paramount, so grabbing brunch here looked to be the most convenient thing to do since it’s across the street. I’m a fan of Tom Douglas, but having been to a few of his restaurants I’ve had hits and misses. This was closer to a miss. I tried the following: - Cinnamon Roll - Nice, but expensive for what you get. - Radiatori Pasta - Ok. Good ingredients, interesting concept, but just didn’t feel it was a very memorable dish. - Avocado Toast - Ok. Again, good quality ingredients but nothing really special. Service was super friendly. Tom Douglas restaurants charge a 20% service fee, and generally the servers deserve it. Overall, it was OK. Convenient location and good service, but felt my brunch was average.

Not welcoming to senior solo females.

By Sandra W |

The food was OK. The bartender was not. Oh, and they don't know the difference between Rye and Bourbon whiskey. The attitude was "oh, yeh, who cares what you think".

Trendy with interesting selections

By finhat |

Dined with my wife on a Sunday evening. The menu & the crowd was certainly interesting. There are varied menu choices of vegetables & meats in inventive combinations. Kind of a trendy feel in both atmosphere & food options. Highly rated on yelp, but I think they only give it $$ for price. I would say it's closer to $$$, especially if you get drinks ($7 beer, and $10+ wine). The food was quite good and the service was friendly & helpful with selections. Our main course was somewhat slow to come out, but we weren't bothered. I'm not sure if the manager spoke with us, but she comped our main course because it came out a bit late. We enjoyed our food very much, and didn't complain about the wait. I think it's a sign of very attentive management, and we were surprised and impressed. I would certainly return again.

Don't miss it!

Many comments on my pictures :) Wonderful spot for Happy hour or date night. Delicious!! Melinda was a wonderful bartender and advisor as well!!
