Atlanta Classic

By HappyWanderers1245 |

Old stand by for comfort food in Atlanta. Always crowded which means something. Love the peppermint ice cream and early bird specials!

Always a pleasure

Great family dinner here once again. Specials were fantastic and vegetables were delicious. Can't wait to go back.

Great Homestyle Southern Cuisine

By Anne M |

The fried chicken was wonderful. In a world of chain restaurants, It was so fun to be in a place that has been an Atlanta institution for so many years. The fried chicken was fantastic and the waitstaff was so friendly. The sweet potato soufflé was light and fluffy and the collard greens were nicely flavored. It was a highlight of our trip.

Pretty good. See the "tip" at the end of the review.

By pspoker |

So we met a friend here. I had the chicken tenders and 2 sides, a salad and fried okra. The tenders were cooked too long so they were dry. The salad and fried okra were really good. I got a free small dish of ice cream afterwards. One friend got the chopped steak and one got the crab cakes. Both said they were good. Here is the tip: Get seated before 6:30pm and order off the Early Bird menu and it has good prices and you get the free included dish of ice cream! I do not know if it is 7 days a week or not, but it is on a Monday (when we were there).

Fried Chicken and antiques

By Al |

I LOVE to antique. I have been all over Atlanta in wonderful antique shops "wishing" and "wishing" and sometimes, buying. One such GREAT place is on the famed Cheshire Bridge Road in Midtown. It's called Antiques and Beyond. And so I went down there the other day to look around. I spent lots of time in there and then, afterwards, I walked down the street to a restaurant that I had heard about for many years. It's quiet well known here and is called The Colonade. It's not fancy and is a little dated in decor but I thought the food was GREAT; and so was the service. Of course, I had their fried chicken. Between the food and the atmosphere, I really enjoyed it.

Great Southern Food!!

By Clint S |

Great list of side items that let you experience Southern food. The pork chops were huge and tasty. The rolls and cornbread muffins hit the spot also. Great service and Great food. A wide variety of people in the place lets you experience Atlanta.

Love it

The Colonnade has been around forever for a good reason. Terrific southern food with a great staff. Classic southern fried chicken and great desserts, including banana pudding.

Great Iconic Atlanta Restaurant

By georgeingeorgia |

The Colonnade has stood the test of time for 90 years and is one of the best restaurants in Atlanta. It serves great Southern cooking with typical offerings like fried chicken, fried shrimp (best in ATL), veggies and out-of-this-world homemade desserts (best coconut cream pie i've tasted!). Moderate prices, fast attentive service and a slightly retro-look that takes you back a couple decades...but is very clean and comfortable. Highly recommended!

consistently good

By sjl802 |

We've been going to The Colonnade on Cheshire Bridge Rd for many years and it continues to be consistently good, very fresh and great flavor. Tonight the two of us each had a pretty hefty drink while waiting 40 minutes to get a table. We had Southern fried chicken (4 juicy pieces) and an enormous slab of prime rib and two sides each. They were very busy which slowed service but the food was very good and the sides we're very fresh vegetables. Dinner, drinks and tip was $80, a bargain for all that food and 2 strong dinks.

Cold Southern comfort food

By Helen711 |

This restaurant serves Southern comfort food. I was in a group of 10 women. a couple ordered the fried chicken, and their plates came with 4 huge pieces of chicken. I ordered the scallops (market price was $31). When they arrived they were perfectly cooked, but only slightly warm. The onion rings are minced and breaded, so really just breading. I couldn't taste any onion. Mine were room temp, as were all the others who ordered them. As my second side I had the sweet potato souffle, which was hot, sweet and delicious (the server had to make an extra trip to get it). Low lighting and very loud, but the place was busy on a Thursday night.

Step Back in Time to a Genuine Southern Restaurant

By Nancy H |

WE were very fortunate that we came late and dint have to wait very long. It has been a while since I had great southern cooking with many options. My family loved the rustic nature of this restaurant as well as the attentiveness of the staff. The vegetables are to die for. My son had the shrimp and grits and said it was one of the best he ever had. My husband had the short ribs and he ws blown away at how tender and tasty they were. The place seems to be in a sketchy area, but dont let that scare you away. This is worth a visit to Atlanta - traffic and all.

SO SAD, THE COLONNADE IS JUST AWFUL.

By Benspapa1 |

Absolutely awful. We've been coming here for 40 years and I will never go back. They have the blinds pulled shut to keep the a/c bill down and it is a dark and depressing place. It does not feel clean, and the food is not good anymore. And the food is seriously expensive for what it is. Don't go! You will be very disappointed.

Go for the food

By Mary G |

I have been eating here for over 50 years! The food is authentic, made from scratch Southern food. I go for the vegetables, my husband goes for the liver and onions. The menu includes many items you seldom see on restaurant menus - tomato aspic, rutabagas, wedge salad. Eating here is a very enjoyable trip down memory lane. The waiters are all friendly and very efficient. There is a large, but cozy bar which is great when there is a wait for a table. If you go once, you will go back. There are too many tempting items on the menu too try in one meal!

This rave review long overdue

By Grace V |

Wow!!! Food, atmosphere and ownwers were all amazing! The service was exceptional. You could taste the TLC that goes into the recipes and cooking. Fortunate enough to meet the owners during my trip. Good staff and service is only as good as the leadership and that is why the service was 100%. Try the fried shrimp and the fried liver👏

Incredible Old School Southern Dining!

By MarkD61 |

An exceptionally good yet old school Southern Dining restaurant! Incredible food, bar and table service! For starters, I highly recommend their shrimp cocktail and an Old Fashioned! From there you can't go wrong and don't forget dessert!

Ups and Downs

By Jason G |

Food overall here is tasty, but not memorable per se. I personally don’t think I had ever had fried chicken livers or tomato aspic (Google says this was popular in the early to mid 20th century), so if you’re an adventurous eater, you might enjoy trying some of these sides as I did. Staff are friendly, but our waiter never even gave us menus (I ended up just getting them on my own), and service was quite slow overall. I would say it’s worth checking out once if you have a bunch of time in Atlanta and like eating at historical restaurants, but just temper your expectations.

Excellent!

By Leaguehan |

This place was great. It offered a wide variety of southern cooked food and it was all fresh. The chicken tenders were amazing!!

Fun dining experience

By Tamara M |

My husband and I had eaten at this restaurant many years ago and wanted to take my parents when they came to visit us. We all had a very nice meal and they really enjoyed it as did we. The server was nice and the food was served as expected. This restaurant is a very old school establishment and it is fun to dine there.

Southern Food Cooked Right

By Mary G |

The long time popularity of this restaurant is a testament to its consistency and good food. It is always crowded and just the wait is a unique experience. There is a friendly bar where you can enjoy drinks until you hear your name and number announced over a loud speaker. The specials are posted on a black board as you walk in. The food and vegetables are all delicious, fresh and home-cooked. This is not "fine dining," it is fine eating - fried chicken, calves liver, turkey and dressing, fried shrimp, fresh fish of the day. Everyone has a favorite meal and the "regulars" come several times a week and request a favorite waiter. You will enjoy the Colonnade experience!

Good place to put some South in your Mouth

By oceanquest33 |

The Colonnade is an Atlanta Landmark after many years serving Atlantans and their guest. Not fancy but food is terrific and service if fast and friendly. The Colonnade is known as the Restaurant for "Grays (older) and Gays". Definitely a must try for visitors and locals.

Mountains of food for a great price

By RandyMartin |

You might as well order a box to go when you place your order. You cannot eat all the food served to you. I had the roasted turkey breast. And there was plenty of dressing and cranberry sauce. Most restaurants skimp on the cranberry sauce Not here. The food was great. Definitely worth the time and the price was very reasonable.

Fried chicken fried chicken fried chicken!

By Glassgurl2713 |

This is the best fried chicken I have had in a long time! With the ambiance of an established Atlanta landmark, this restaurant has much to offer. Traditional southern faire with a full bar and an experienced wait staff kept this foodie diner in a cloud of happiness. I highly recommend the fried chicken and the pot roast. The yeast rolls were on point as well as the real mashed potatoes. If you have room for dessert, the chocolate pie or blueberry amaretto pie make a wonderful end to a most delightful dining event....or a breakfast the next morning as a take out!

perfect - true southern comfort food - with a huge menu.

By john s |

think of every favorite dish that your southern born grandmother prepared on Sundays ! they have every one. and just as good as granny's !! nice size parking lot. great wait staff - who make every task look so easy ! special requests received with a smile and yes nod. and I promise you no one has left the place in the last 50 years still feeling Hungary !! oh and perfect cocktails also. busy always - but short waits.

Good Fried Chicken

By Nicholas M |

Went to this restaurant when in Atlanta on Business. It was known for great Fried chicken. I ordered the regular chicken Dinner, which is 4 pieces of chicken anyway you want. All white or dark, or like me one of each. You also get two sides. They have about 20 sides to pick from. The chicken was the best I have had in a long time. The place was nice, don't have to be dressed nice, come as you are. Also great deserts, big portions. If in Atlanta its a must go to.

Tough Times in Atlanta due to I-85 Collapse

By Warren K |

We had to head out tonight to support our favorite Cheshire Bridge restaurant. The I-85 collapse has made it difficult on all businesses in that area. I love Colonnade! We had the Early Bird special. They have the best fried shrimp. Add to it one of their salads and/or vegetables & you have one great meal. The best rolls & peppermint ice cream anywhere. Be sure to prelude all of this with one of their high octane cocktails. Always a great southern experience!!

So impressed!

By jojojan1 |

We found this restaurant by accident while coming back from the Carter Museum. We went in and it appeared to be full of locals. We had the Fish and chips and the hamburger steak plate both were exceptional. We definitely recommend the colonnade.

Missing the Old Colonnade

By Willx |

Met friends for dinner on a recent Friday night. Since the COVID problem, the experience has definitely changed in some ways. The wait staff remains as exceptionally attentive and most are long-time employees of the restaurant. The menu is become a scaled down version of what "used to be" and prices have increased. My choice was the fried catfish with a salad and one side (wanted fried okra but they didn't have it) so I took baby limas instead. The salad and limas were tasty and satisfying, but the catfish was undercooked so I returned it to the kitchen. By the time I got my fish, the 3 others in our group had finished and so had to wait on me. The fish was OK but still slightly undercooked, and 2 nice-sized pieces were $19 and that's up from the $14 they used to be and which is shown on the menu posted on this site. I'm hopeful the Colonnade of pre-COVID can make its way back, but that remains to be seen.

Juicy and Crispy Fried Chicken!

By Ray C |

Loved this place! The chicken was so flavorful and juicy I couldn't stop eating it! The batter was spiced perfectly and cooked to perfection! Nice wait staff with great service! I will be back!

Greasy spoon pretending to be great southern food, which does not exist. The air is thick with grease from the fried everything.

Fantastic fried shrimp

By SingletonFamily |

Love this place! The food and service was excellent. The fried shrimp was amazing. Will definitely return.

Mildred Pierce's legacy lives on here

By arockefellerview |

I imagine this is what the old restaurants looked like when folks would eat out after their Sunday drive. The portions are huge at moderate prices. Service is usually good with the main problem if any being so busy. Usually a wait to be seated but there are seating banquets and a bar area. Food has been average to good, but hearty. Lively chatter and good company seem to be the norm here which has kept the Collonade, a popular place for more than 50 years. Easy parking.

Amazing meal. Great Southern Cooking

By brywlk69 |

This restaurant is just what you want when you come to the south. Amazing fried chicken, fried okra and pickled beets, and just great southern hospitality. The food was amazing. The fried chicken was fantastic. They had chicken livers and pot roast in prime rib and turkey breast and just an amazing sit down family down our meal. Thank you very much!

Old School Atlanta Comfort Food

By Jeff A |

This place is for you if you like old school Atlanta restaurants. Been around for years and serves up southern goodies like Fried Chicken, Liver & Onions and all the sides you would expect with comfort food. Be sure to come early for dinner on weekends since this place gets really busy around 6-7pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

The fried chicken is a FIVE

By Pawnee7 |

Every time I come to Atlanta I try to nake it here. They have the best southern fried chicken I have ever had. The rest of the menu beats me because that is all we have ever had. Plenty of parking nice setting good service reasonable price. What else do you ask for in a restaurant?

Great fried chicken

By Mark C |

Always looking for a great Diner and Colonnade fits the bill. They are famous for their fried chicken and it did not let me down. Great crispy crunch with flavor led me to moist tasty chicken. I added in turnip greens and fried okra and it was wonderful. For desert I got the homemade peach cobbler and it was perfect. Overall a great place to eat!

Mother' day delight!

By Staciajc |

My son took me here for Mother's Day and it was wonderful! The service was attentive and friendly - and while the food took a little longer than I would have liked, it was worth the wait! I had fried chicken and it was DEE-LISHHH!!!! They brought out 4 huge pieces and sides of fries & slaw which were also great! I had enough in my to-go box for dinner! My son had pork chops, fried and gave me a bite - tender and tasty!! His black-eyed peas were from a can, but that's OK - his tossed salad was also a HUGE portion and had red beets, which he loves! We had no room for dessert, but we'll be back! YUMMMMMMMMMMMM

Best Fried Shrimp

By unctompr |

I have been eating at this establishment since 1978. Best fried shrimp: lightly battered and delicious!

Enjoyed Sunday Dinner

By GPBurdell67 |

Started in 1927, The Colonnade is a survivor. And surviving quite nicely, if the crowd on Sunday night was an indication of its popularity. We had to wait about 20-30 minutes at 7:00 to be seated. Service initially was reasonably fast and cornbread and yeast rolls arrived quickly. I would rate them a B-. It took quite a while for our entrees (fried chicken, turkey and dressing) to arrive, but they were good and plenty. Each came with two sides (to be selected from at least two dozen choices). The sides were good too. Perhaps there was too much salt in the turkey but it was very tender. The celery dressing was bland. We were too full for dessert and we took home leftovers.

Go to after Church

By marinablueproperties |

Best place in Atlanta for vegetables, fried chicken and home style deserts. They even offer the famous greenwood ice cream. Check for daily specials. Wait staff is top notch. You will go away with left overs for the next day. Mmmmmm.

Really disappointed

By chefluee |

Have been here a few times over the last couple of months but last Sunday might be the end of the visits. Ok, yes, I have said that before. We ordered fried shrimp, green beans and dressing with giblet gravy. We questioned and questioned our server on the shrimp because about a month ago we went with a friend and her shrimp were so fishy and only a few could be eaten. His answer was I have served quite a few today and had no complaints. So there we went. We ordered and opened the little butter packets and went to get a roll and low and behold our food arrived. How can he put the order in and serve the food in about 3 minutes. I looked at the shrimp and asked it they had been just sitting there for him to scoop up and I was told no "cooked to order". Not sure if that was exactly true because they were luke warm. If they had just come out of the fryer they would have been too hot to eat. And they were soggy at that. We complained but it went on deaf ears. The green beans, straight out of a can were warm, not hot and no seasoning. The dressing might have been a tad bit warmer but that was about it. Service was above average but has always been one of the priority reasons to go to The Colonnade. Everything was bland. We asked for the lightest dinner rolls that he could find and there was one of the group that was not overly browned. Think I'll wait about 6 months or so and then determine whether I will go back.

great southern comfort food

By CLINT29405 |

in town for holiday family gatherings, we took 7 people here on Friday night. Great food and cocktails and desserts. Then went back on Saturday for lunch. Again great food and great service. They don't take reservations but they have a bar to wait on a table.

Decent food and a staple for many in Atlanta for decades.

By starter1 |

I've eaten here many times over the years living in Atlanta. I like the main dishes better than the sides. You can tell by observing the people here that some of the customers have been eating here for years. The servers are good and friendly. It's one step up from cafeteria food. Good to experience at least once. Who knows, you may become one of those people who keep eating here for years.

If you want good home cooking & huge portions, this is the place

By StevenHScher |

We went early for dinner with a friend. I ordered the cd fried seafood combo with shrimp & scallops. You get 2 sides or 1 side & choice of salad. I had the lettuce wedge salad. It was a half head of fresh lettuce, tomato, cucumber, & beets. There were about 10 large delicious scallops & 10 large delicious shrimp. Absolutely fantastic. I got sweet potato fries which were delicious. My wife had the trout almondine which was perfectly cooked & delicious. Our friend had a special, the Loup de Mar, a large portion & delicious. Our server Sara was fantastic. We each took home half our meal. This is just large portions of great home cooked food.

Old school ambiance with friendly service and good home cooking!

By Jan F |

Today (Sunday) we decided to try one of Atlanta's oldest restaurants for lunch, The Colonnade which opened in 1927. This is the second location after the original lost their lease in 1962. There was a fire in 1992 but they rebuilt and have been serving up original recipes ever since. My husband ordered the Pot Roast with mashed potatoes and gravy, which he said was delicious. He also had a side salad, which comes with pickled beets which I enjoyed since it's not his favorite. He also tried the baked beans which he said weren't anything special...but then he usually prefers his own anyway. I had the Fried Chicken, which was crispy and moist. HUGE serving. My one disappointment was the sweet potato soufflé which I found to be a bit bitter but they quickly swapped it out for another side. I did enjoy the Waldorf Salad. The portions are HUGE so we ended up bringing most of the chicken and one side home, along with a couple of desserts which we will enjoy later tonight. All in all, it's not "cheap eats" but very good.

FRIED CHICKEN !!!

By PHILIP6210 |

The Colonade has a nice cozy bar for before dinner drinks. the food is excellent I had FRIED CHICKEN. tasted like what my grandmother made. The desserts were a disappointment, but still a very enjoyable experience. Prices were great for ATLANTA dining.

Expect to see the Rat Pack There!

By charliespr |

We loved it, and we will be back! The Colonnade is an Atlanta institution, and a MUST if you have never been! The Colonnade is like an old-fashioned night club with an excellent pianist playing wonderful old tunes, and serving great Southern home cooking. We arrived without reservations on a Friday night, and even though the place was crowded, we were seated right away. What a throwback to the old days ♥

Open again y’all!!

By rbailey66 |

Surprised to see open after all of these months, so driving by and saw cars parked. Quick u-turn and headed back! Hours are a little altered, today (Sunday) open until 8pm. Menu is reduced, but the fried chicken is there and tastes as great as before. Welcome back old friend,

southern cooking at it's best

By mlesser1 |

First time here, but definitely not the last...the food is first rate , with large portions and relatively low prices...never made it to dessert as we had plenty to fill us and the service was right on the money...

A very popular spot!

By Mike K |

A friend and I ate here and we were so amazed by the loyal customers! It was a weekday night and yet, it was bustling! My friend ordered a hamburger plate and I had some delicious southern chicken! Prices were reasonable and the plates were hearty. Many of the selections seemed to be rather ordinary, but they were prepared and presented in a very nice manner. The bar area is also quite large and could seat many people.

This is it!

By Ichaso17 |

If you're looking for a plant-based diet or working on your Keto preliminaries this is not the place for you. This is some of the best old school southern food that I have tasted. Old school in that it is simply made and simply served and simply priced. They have the best fried chicken I have ever tasted except from my own kitchen. If your looking for southern food in Atlanta this is one of the places you should visit. Enjoy! You will not be disappointed.

Step Back in Time With Good Food, Large Portions and 50's Feel

By AllanH328 |

We were visiting a friend in Atlanta who took us to this restaurant that reminded me of places I used to go to as a kid with my grandparents and parents. There was a long wait on a Sunday. The decor is very dated but perfect for this place. It is very loud and hectic here. The menu is very large with dishes you used to see all the time on menus but don't much any longer. I was going to get the fried chicken which they are known for but got the chopped sirloin instead because it is a dish I used to love as a kid. This was a very nice portion and tasted great. Everything about the place I loved.

geat local place

By Jim P |

Great local place to eat and even for those from out of town. My wife and I took a friend from Australia just for the fried chicken, side dishes and the nicely poured adult beverages from the bar. Service was super, very friendly and helpful. Eclectic clientele just made the evening more fun. Watch out though for the daily specials. I tried one of them once and i will stay with the tried and true.

One of the few true Southern cooking restaurants in the city

By cmcmillar |

Atlanta used to be full of restaurants like this -- "after church" destinations for a meat and two or three vegetables. Over the years, they've mostly disappeared -- except for Colonnade. And there's good reason. This places is reliable, none of those vegetables out of a can. The fried chicken here is among the best in the city. There's a real sense of place here that can be sometimes lacking in Atlanta.

Fun Revisit to an Old Friend

By Charlie N |

This past New Years Eve was wintry-quiet so we decided to find traditional Southern black-eye peas and collards, hopefully also with corn bread. Hadn't tried the Colonnade in years, except for bar association breakfast meetings. Had fun easy conversations at the bar while waiting ~an hour for seating; this place is nearly always packed. Bartender willingly made a Cape Cod tho hadn't had that request in years. Our simple, nothing-fancy dinners were delicious: we shared /enjoyed my wife's fried shrimp with a tasty cocktail sauce, and my salmon croquets done to a light brown and seasoned to savor. Good corn bread as always. Plan to return soon.

A Shadow of Its Former Self

By Bruce G |

Inattentive waiter, 'hot' foods served cold and dry, tasteless, tiny portions, overpriced, took too way long for meal to be served, loud/noisy. Been going here for 48 years, but no mo. Just ain't what she used to be.

Home cooking, timeless values

By PUMBRIDGE |

When The Colonnade opened in 1927, it offered homely fare, prompt and polite service and excellent value. In a decade it will celebrate its centenary... and those original principles still hold good. I hadn't visited before... but an Atlantan of long standing insisted it was THE place. He was right. The Colonnade hasn't budged since it first opened, unlike other places of longevity, making it the longest running restaurant in the same location in the city. I went for good old fish 'n' chips. $17. Two substantial pieces of battered cod, with chips. I was told it came with two side dishes - I went for onion rings (huge) and turnip greens, a spinachy green accompaniment. In a large pot, a hefty portion of zingy tartare sauce. My bride's calves' liver dish was well-done (perhaps that's the default setting, but in Europe it would be a lot rarer), but was also very tasty. To the right, as you enter the restaurant, there's a very nice bar with several walls covered in witty 'old bookcase' wallpaper. The restrooms are well cared for. We finished off with key lime pie, which was also wholesome and satisfying - a good mix of sweet and tart. My bride and I asked for an 'oomphy' red wine. A swill of the waiter's suggested pinot noir was brought to the table in a glass for us to try. A nice touch. Good value, good quality. I'll be back. One small point. One of the follow-up questions in the TripAdvisor list asks if the restaurant is good for special occasions. It is... to some extent. It makes the point, in a prominent notice by the door, that very large parties will be split. I suspect it's because the configuration of tables is as traditional as the restaurant itself, and if 40 people suddenly bowl up, there's no way the old layout can adapt.

Perfect Fried Chicken - Good Service - Other Food was Just OK

By RickyD23 |

90 Years and still frying chicken. Colonnade is a classic. I would highly recommend going for the fried chicken. We had 14 people and most people ordered the chicken. The few other dishes ordered were not as great but the chicken was to die for. Choose your taste - white meat or dark, grab a side or two and you are in business. No room for dessert. No reservations taken - even for large groups but the wait was not too long.

Great Meal

By Margaret H |

My son and we're in Atlanta for 6 nights and ate at Colonade 3 nights. Hard great meals every time. Hard to beat for the money and I don't understand the bad reviews people give unless they just don't "get" the place. We had burgers, chicken livers, fried chicken, prime rib, pork chops, fried shrimp and chicken fried chicken. Not a bed side was served and peppermint ice cream to top it off. Truly a treat for those who know and appreciate the Colonade and what it means! Can't wait to go back.

Big disappointment!

By gaverv |

Went for a dinner of "Southern traditional entrees". Order salmon croquettes. The menu describes it as "Fresh Salmon And Onions Pattied And Fried Served With Dijon Fish Sauce". The exterior of the salmon croquettes was a fried crust. The interior was a dense white substance. No flavor & no sign of any salmon or onions served with mayonnaise.

Friends and I Eat

Always Good Here...Service was Good....Food, So Good...Don't think I have ever had a bad Meal there....Plenty of it....The Wedge...Yum....The Drinks are Always Good There Also...The Staff is Nice and Friendly...I have been Going for Years and Will Continue to do so....

Not bad, but not what we were expecting

By Rahn N |

Based on all the reviews, we had very high expectations for The Colonnade. It wasn't bad by any means. Our main dishes were just good...I had the fried shrimp and my wife had the herb roasted chicken. The chicken was very good, but the fried shrimp was just your average run of the mill shrimp. Our sides were nothing too special either. Our fried okra wasn't very good or tasteful, the mashed potatoes seemed to be the instant style (not good at all), the side of fresh fruit was large but the melons weren't ripe. The rolls were very good, however! It's not a fancy meal, nor a "bad" meal. It seems overpriced for the quality of the food though. Maybe we should have tried the fried chicken which is what they're known for. It is a very large menu, so there's bound to be something really good on it. We just didn't experience that wow factor on our meals. Everything reminded us of a diner style restaurant and quality. Service was very attentive and friendly and we barely had to wait for a table on Easter Sunday. If the price were less we might consider trying again, but will most likely try some other local restaurants next time we're in town.

Old-Line Cheshire Bridge Meat and Three

By lexi3 |

Probably established right after Sherman decamped. Make no mistake--the food is Southern and good. Folks go for the fried chicken, rolls, chicken livers and country style entrees.

Atlanta Icon

By CathyP1953 |

What a delicious meal of fried chicken!!!! We also shared the turkey and dressing!!! The rolls were just heavenly!!! Please look at our empty plates!!! Scrumptious food!!! Excellent service!!! I am so glad we detoured off the Interstate to dine at this restaurant!!!

Like Liver? Here’s Where to Find It!

By Jayne P |

I LOVE liver...chicken or calves... actually any liver. The Colonnade has calves liver on their menu. When you couple it with mashed potatoes and coleslaw, you have a perfect lunch or dinner. And if you have fond memories of the Colonnade, you will be very happy to find that nothing has changed. Be aware there is still a wait to be seated, but the service is quick and efficient.

Traditional Southern!

By Ken K |

Sometimes it is difficult to get seated at Colonnade, especially on Sundays or dinner time any day. It has a long history and exudes a certain charm. A separate room with a bar is available for those wishing to wet their taste buds before dinner. And, I have never had a bad meal there over many years. Whether it be a steak, sea food, chicken, or pork, salads, appetizers, or side dishes, the quality of food is fresh and delicious, and every meal starts with fresh rolls and corn bread muffins. Parking can be difficult at certain peek times, and some entrees can get a little pricey.

Colonnade Restaurant-ATL

By jgd |

Their fried chicken is as fabulous as ever- among the best I've had. However their sides and breads seem lack-luster and need some upgrading. Wish I could just purchase the chicken without the sides, etc. Their key lime pie is also delicious, but has not been available the last four times I've been there. Disappointing. For them to have taken some time-out during the beginning of Corona, it is very disappointing that management has spent NO time to update their online information across all social media. They do not have a website and the menu and pricings are extremely out of date. As an example, the fried chicken dinner everywhere is listed at $14. When I picked up my dinner for take out, I was charged $20 plus and extra $1 fee. I did add tip for their wait staff, but not pleased with ownership choices. It's not out of line with reality today, BUT they need to reflect current pricing on their FB page and on other online sights . . . and include an easy current menu with dinners. Feels like they are not being responsible. Grrrr.

Atlanta favorite!

By JillE1957 |

I looooove The Colonnade. The food is good Southern comfort food. From the fresh baked rolls and corn muffins to the delicious sides (try to pick just two), to the entrees (Fried shrimp is my favorite), The Colonnade is always a favorite destination of mine. I love the atmosphere and the friendliness of the employees along with the reasonably priced, well-poured drinks in the bar. Also, be very sure to check out the specials on the board as you come in the door because there are always some delicious surprises that aren't on the written menu. I have never had a bad meal at The Colonnade...the prices are reasonable, and the portions are more than generous. And while we're here, let's also mention the Key Lime Pie for dessert. A perfect end to a wonderful meal. Tourists go to Mary Mac's, but long time residents of Atlanta know that the really good Southern food and great drinks are to be found at The Colonnade.

Top Notch Southern Meal

By ddmullis |

For an experience in true southern food this is an amazing place. Whether you have fried chicken, pot roast or turkey n dressing it's all delicious. The collard greens, stewed corn and fresh mashed potatoes are all fantastic The service is always very good. They have a nice bar area to wait before being seated If you want to avoid a wait you should arrive by 6PM.

Should be better, but it isn't

By Seasonedtraveler |

From the outside it looked like a great place. Very deceeptive. The sign says, "since 1927." That was probably when the place was last decorated. Not sure how they survived that long. The online menu is incorrect. The prices for average meals is $24. Much higher than the quallity. Service was fair and the hostess and cashier should retire. Poor attitudes. Save your time and money.

An Atlanta tradition and well worth it ! Home Style with eclectically charged atmosphere.

By sunrisemahon |

The Colonade is a must visit when in Atlanta . Fried chicken to make you lick the back of your neck with old fashioned sides to match . Yeast rolls and corn muffins on every table with butter and saltine crackers the old fashioned way . Salads are delicious with great dressings and desserts galore . From steak to seafood and wine to liquor this place is a winner !!!! The atmosphere is quite interesting or as they say in Atlanta "from grays to gays " and so entertaining .....we always have a a great meal with amazing service . Try it and live a little when visiting,

Fabulous fried chicken in a legendary Georgia restaurant. Also loved the sweet potato souffle..all washed down with good ol' southern iced tea.

Old Fashion Restaurant

By Illinois_John |

Went here for dinner with my sister and her husband. We arrived a few minutes before 5:00 and after waiting a few minutes we were the first people seated in the restaurant. By the time we left a little after 6:00 all of the tables were full. This restaurant has been around since 1927 and the decor is a little dated. However that is part of its charm. The service was excellent and I really enjoyed my chicken fried chicken. The mashed potatoes were very bland. Also, the pepper gravy was bland, but it was still good. The yeast rolls were good and the Caesar salad was very good with a good dressing that had a nice kick. My sister got the fried shrimp dinner and the shrimp was delicious. My brother-in-law got the fried pork chop dinner. There were two pork chops, but he could only finish one. We shared the cherry cobbler for dessert, and it was good, but not excellent.

Down Home Southern Cooking a MUST try

By Denimo9 |

We have eaten here twice and have been very satisfied with the food and service. The chicken fried chicken is excellent as well as the vegetable sides and breads. Love all the selections from fried okra, collards, mac and cheese, pork chops, chicken and desserts. Highly recommend you try this place if you love southern foods.

My Southern Food Fix

By sarlsar |

This is my go-to place when I need a fix for classic southern food. This restaurant has operated since the 1920s and offers sides such as collards, black eyed peas, fried okra, whipped potatoes, etc and fried chicken, pork chops, shrimp. The sweet tea, hot yeast rolls, and house-made desserts are great.

Another Wonderful Week of Dining a The Colonnade

By Gary B |

Just spent another 11 days in Atlanta and of course it included multiple trips to The Colonnade. Still one of Atlanta's most fun restaurants. The menu is EXTENSIVE! Impossible not to find something you'd like to eat. This trip I had meals that included the Southern Fried Chicken (A++), Roast Turkey and Pot Roast. All outstanding meals. Price is right on. They don't take reservations, but it's well worth the wait. The drinks are STIFF! Definitely a fun place to have dinner if you're an Atlanta resident or just visiting.

My Semi-Annual Review of an Atlanta Treasure!

By Gary B |

Much to the dismay of some of my friends, I LOVE The Colonnade. I love the food; I love the atmosphere; I love the staff; I love the kitsch; I love the sides; I love the drinks; I love the endless wait. For me it's a total experience! I've taken many friends to The Colonnade over the years...some get it and LOVE it...some can't understand the hype. I will say this...you HAVE to try it and conclude on your own. I happen to think the food is very good...it's not Atlanta's most trendy, upscale, rock-star food restaurant...but then it again, it doesn't pretend to be that. The owners and staff know their brand and they deliver that brand flawlessly! The location is fabulously somewhat seedy (strip clubs, adult video arcades, etc.). On many nights you'll fight to find a parking spot. On a busy Friday or Saturday night you'll wait 30-60 mins for a table. What you order will come out in no specific order. For most dishes, just skip the calorie count and dig in! But if you don't love dining at The Colonnade you just may need to look yourself in the mirror and knock that chip off your shoulder!! LOVE IT! LOVE IT! LOVE IT!

Old Atlanta Restaurant for American and traditional southern food

By BTM148 |

It is on the east side of Atlanta on Cheshire Bridge Road. They have good salmon croquettes, fried chicken, and sweet potato fries, plus a selection of vegetables and a wedge of lettuce.

Get the Fried Chicken

By KTCO |

Easily some of the best fried chicken I have ever eaten. I also loved the fried okra. One of my friends really enjoyed the grilled trout, and the other thought her chicken-fried steak was a bit tough and the gravy lacked flavor. The coleslaw was also very good. This place has been in business since 1927, and it doesn't look like they have updated the decor since the 1980's at least. So the place is a bit dingy. Our server was kind but overworked, the place seemed short staffed. But even so we did not have to wait too long for our food. If you want classic fried Southern food, this is a good place to try.

Our Favorite Place for Fried Chicken in ATL

By B D |

While visiting my daughter in ATL her and I decided to visit 2-restaurants in 2-days and compare their Fried Chicken. The Colonnade Won! We have been coming here for years and ordering Fried Chicken. Matter of fact, we have ordered many items off the menu over the years and have never been disappointed. If you like Fish and Chips they are delicious as well. For peach fans out there, save room for the Peach Cobbler. As a Fun Fact, this restaurant was in the movie "Identity Thief". Parking is ample. Often 0-15 minute wait to be seated.

Colonnade, after 37 years

By redbird2016 |

I've lived in Atlanta 37 years and just never got to the Colonnade until last week. Oh my, it was outstanding. I was there with a group and we were promptly waited on, water served along with drink orders taken. When drinks were served dinner orders were taken. The Fried Chicken was better than I had been told it would be and the selection on side orders --well there were to many to chose from--so my friends and I decided to order something different and share. That was a great plan. Another popular entree was Fried Chicken Livers with enough for 2 meals. Then, there were the yeast rolls, oh the will power to only have 2 needed to be in full gear. Did I say with butter! Wait, there's more--- that would be dessert and not a scoop of ice cream, but a bowl, then peach cobber, banana pudding with a few other choices. We were there for the Early Bird Special (5-6:30 M-Th) $16.00 includes meat, 2 sides, rolls, tea, coffee or soft drink, dessert, great service with a smile. Check their website for menu and hours. colonnadeatlanta.com

Big Portions, good food

By Charles D |

Took the family to the Colonnade on 12/10. I would say the food was better than average for a meat & three. The portions are pretty big and there are no kids menus, so if you are taking kids I would recommend splitting meals. I was pretty surprised at the crowd, we arrived around 6:30 on a Saturday night and had a 20 minute wait. The ambience is great, total 1950's diner/cafeteria style. I had the chopped sirloin and it was great, I would recommend. The service is about what you would expect from a busy diner, average at best. Overall, good food and we will go again.

Surviving on sympathy only

By MKT |

This is our third and final visit to the Colonade. We live a stone’s throw away and want to support our local restaurants. This is the worst meal I’ve had in Atlanta in 25 years. The ribeye was grossly fatty and delivered well done when ordered medium-rare. Upon return it was cooked perfectly but the worst cut of meat possible full of silver skin and fat. I could barely find decent cuts to wash off and feed to my dog. My “seared tuna” was inedible! Cooked perfectly but no seasoning and a horrific grade of tuna, so fishy I couldn’t eat it. They shouldn’t offer things out of their comfort zone or abilities. My “squash” was 35% squash and 65% butter and cheese. I know it’s the Colonade, but it should not be called “seasonal squash”. Perhaps, squash and cheese casserole would be more appropriate. I’ll get my son’s chicken tenders next time; however, there won’t be a next time. Shame on you Colonade for resting on your alcolades and long history. Your food is inedible, the service was horrible, and you couldn’t even make a decent martini. Your supporters deserve better.

The Colonnade

By molly l |

10/12/2022 Ridiculously expensive, I was told the current price is in “Facebook”. I kept looking for a menu on Facebook, but only saw pictures of a blackboard menu on Facebook (turkey wasn’t listed) Many different prices were listed on different websites for Turkey Entree- from $14-20, but last night one plate to go cost $27 including tax. Y’all need to update your pricing on all your sites. Google- yelp- four square and trip advisor.

Nothing special really

By Andrea W |

This is a busy place with a good choice of food and waiters that work hard and guide you with your choices. The food, however, is quite ordinary. One of the sides we chose was pear and cheese.....three tinned pear halves with grated cheese and mayo....really? It was something that my five year old grandson would create!! We don't expect this standard of food at a restaurant. We had hoped for better.

Open Since 1927!

By katork |

What I like about the Colonnade is that they have been able to withstand the test of time, when so many other places with Southern Food have closed their doors. Their decor and menu have been updated - I like their variety of booths, tables and roominess. Open at 5:00 during the week with an early bird special of a list of entrees and 2 sides, drink and dessert included for $13. That is a deal! Seafood is $3 extra. Plenty of choices for the entrees and sides ( Early bird is from 5- 6:30). So many choices that I had a hard time deciding what to order. Weekend times differ and I would check their website for times. Separate menu, also, available Service: Very good from our waiter. Food: Chicken Fried Chicken and Salmon Patty were excellent. Sweet Potato Casserole was very good. Dessert tonight was a brownie or Greenwood Ice Cream ( Yum!) Definitely will be back. By the time we left, the parking lot and restaurant was full and it was 6:15. Not open for daily lunch M-F. credit cards accepted

Great Southern Comfort Food

By Fetch68 |

Great place to get some awesome southern comfort food alone or with family and friends. Great value for the prices. Used to be cash only, but now they take credit/debit cards.

Restaurant for all ages

By World Trotter Here and Beyond |

This is a hidden jewel in Atlanta. The restaurant serves home cooked dishes with a southern touch. A variety of people of different ages eat and drink here. There are many choices in their menu. Ambience is so welcoming with a background of piano performance during dinner time. Food quality is great! Fast service and above average prices.

GOOD SOUTHERN COMFORT FOOD

By WeHoTom |

Have dined here a number of times over the years including 10/13/18 and always have a great meal. I am more meat and potatoes but have gone with others who like seafood and we have all been happy with our meal. We even arrived late from another function at 8:30 and knew they "closed" at 9 but hoped we could get in for a quick meal, and we DID and had no problem - food came fast, service was fantastic, and everyone is very friendly. I also like that they now accept credit cards as they only accepted cash until @ 5 years ago. We brought someone the other night who was from Japan and who wanted to sample southern food, but was tempted with the seafood variety platter and she was quite pleased with it!

Great Atlanta Tradition Lives On

By Dealmaker |

The Colonnade is an old established Atlanta restaurant since 1927 serving traditional southern food. They are noted for their fried chicken which is excellent. The fried chicken is not greasy and moist. The other items on the list are also good. They are one of the few places that serves up fried chicken livers. Normally you get 2 sides with every main dish. Not fancy and old style.

Great Southern food

By Verdi A |

We were 14 who decided to go to the Colonnade for dinner. I was looking forward to have short ribs as was my wife unfortunately it was not on the menu that evening. they have it as a special but not that evening. Instead I had the roasted pork and my wife had beef, both were done well and tasty. Our friends had various plates that were offered on the menu and all of us including the 12 others were completely satisfied with their selection and our waitress who took care of all of us was fantastic, friendly and very efficient. She served the food at our table so we did not have to wait for everyone to be served. Although my disappointment at not having short ribs was short lived and I was satisfied with my roasted pork, it was juicy and well presented. We will definitely return but I'm calling to find out when they have short ribs on the menu next time.

An Atlanta classic, better than ever!

By Mitchell I |

It's rare that something with so much history--this restaurant will be 100 years old in 2027!--can still be as charming and delicious as ever. Old favorites like the fried chicken and tomato aspic were kept on the menu with just a few modernizations. The decor was freshened but not really changed. If you like comfort food and a warm cozy atmosphere, the Colonnade will welcome you with open arms and yummy food.

Amazing Southern Food with Outstanding Southern Hospitality

By ddmullis |

I hosted a business dinner at this restaurant recently and it was an exceptional treat. From the time you arrive they provide top notch Southern hospitality and service They offer a large variety of choices for dinner from steaks to seafood to Southern fried chicken. Their spinach salad was very tasty. The cornbread dressing and fried chicken was an excellent choice for dinner The homemade coconut icebox pie was very good to wrap up the meal. It was an excellent choice to have a business dinner

Step Back in Time for a Home-Cooked Southern Meal

By Kim W |

The Colonnade is a restaurant frozen in time that offers a wonderful, home-cooked meal every time. The restaurant serves liver and onions, delicious home-cooked vegetables and there is always service with down-south hospitality!

Go for the Shrimp and Grits

By GACanuck |

After giving us a pleasant tour of Atlanta's impressive Midtown, our friends took us to The Colonnade, a popular local eatery for the last 90+ years (with only two owners in all that time.) The service was friendly and efficient, and the place was packed--for good reason. The Colonnade's menu features many typical Southern dishes, as well as some popular international fare. My wife ordered salmon croquettes, and I had the shrimp and grits with stewed okra and tomatoes. This was a stretch for me, as I eschew okra at every opportunity--I have always equated eating okra with eating phlegm. But this dish was superb--savoury, perfectly cooked, served hot, and loaded with shrimp. I would have been satisfied with half the portion--but I ate it all! Everything about the experience was go-back-soon positive.

Iconic Historic Atlanta Restaurant

By BobbyJ |

Since 1927 at it's currant location, the Famous Colonnade has been serving up wonderful dishes that are exceedingly good. You have about 30 vegetable/salad items. Some are Southern old school like tomato aspic, pears with cheese and mayo, cucumber salad, etc. On the meal side, you have all sorts of seafood, steaks, chicken livers, beef liver, and chicken fried chicken. If you can't find something you like, one is pretty sorry. And, let's not forget the rolls. In addition to the great food, you normally have 5 star service from one of the long time employees which is a bonus. You go to the Colonnade for "The Experience" . Enjoy.

I read it was on Diners Drive Inns and Dives

By David R |

I read it was on 3D and thought I would stop in. The fried chicken is their speciality so that was what I got. It was good but nothing to brag about. The service was good. The restaurant did remind me of yhe old style restaurants I grew up with and as I looked around the majority of the people were older than me and looked like locals. I am glad I went but doubt I will return

A Great Atlanta Tradition Turns 90

By dgbader |

I must confess that having lived in Atlanta for over 20 years and married to a native Atlantan, neither of us had ever been to the Colonnade until New Year's Day 2017. But I guarantee this will not be our last visit. It was mobbed, partially owing to an earlier malfunction of the kitchen, and we ended up waiting for over an hour for a table; but believe me, it was thoroughly worth it. We eschewed their classic fried chicken, and my wife had the pot roast which she described as just as good as her mother's (high praise, indeed), while I opted for the baby back ribs. Being New Year's Day, blackeyed peas were on the house (if you're a Yankee reading this, let's just say it's a Southern thing), and we both had collards. My third side was stewed corn (similar to creamed corn but not quite as thick), and my wife had the fried okra. She gave me an okra to sample and it was probably the best I ever had; fresh okra with just the right amount of salt and pepper in the cornmeal coating. I'm sorry we were too full for dessert, but "tomorrow is another day"!

not good

By Peri C |

we went for mother's day and it was not good at all. We maybe should have gone to Morrison cafeteria, I'm kidding I would never go to Morrison on mothers day. . I told the queen that my mother did not like her trout at all. He just said "sorry". I guess i should have asked for the manager. We will never go back... wasted money.

Great history, still fine food, service and value

By Joe L |

Came here with some out of town family members who wanted to experience Atlanta. A classic since 1927, the Colonnade it had to be for dinner. The six of us were split between the well known fried chicken dinner, filet mignon and the prime rib. All were great as were the multiple sides of corn, baked and mashed potatoes, etc. If you are looking for a fun place that provides a great overall value, this is the place for you and your group. Used to be a cash only place but they now take credit cards except AMEX.

wonderful home cooking

By Larry B |

I cannot understand the bad reviews. It was very busy but we were seated quickly, great service, big menu of home cooking items. They know fried stuff and the short ribs were excellent. Portions are large and we had no room for dessert.

A trip back in time to Grandma's!!!

By AEB_MN |

Oh, man, did we ever enjoy this place! My husband and I both live in the north but have roots in the south. We both felt like this place was stepping back in time and eating dinner at Grandma's. First, the hostess is an absolute delight to watch and interact with--she's so friendly and funny, and she really knows her customers! Our server was just wonderful. It was SO busy when we went, but we never felt ignored at all. My husband ordered the fried chicken, I got the chicken fried chicken, and our son got the chicken tenders. Sensing a theme here? LOL! It was all delicious. And the sides! Oh, the sides. There's about 50 choices; at least, it seems that way. Seriously, there's at least 25 choices, so everyone can find something to make them happy. And, last but absolutely not least.......THE ROLLS. OMG. Honestly, it was like biting into what my Nanny called "icebox rolls." My husband said the same thing--that they tasted just like his Grandmother's. To us, it just tasted like coming home to the south. We really enjoyed it so much, and I would definitely recommend a stop here!

Great service at an institution

By CBAndrewB |

This is southern cooking with excellent attentive service. Portions are generous. I am 52 and was the youngest person in the dining room for a while. It was pretty funny to enter this time warp, where crackers and butter are on the table in case you want to waste stomach space. Entrees are typical comfort food: fried chicken, trout, livers, beef livers, salmon croquettes. Each entree comes with veggie or starch sides. I had grilled trout with turnips and collards. Buttered muffins and rolls come too. Save room for key lime pie. Expect service and good comfort food.

Great food

I love all themenu choices done well .Great experience mu st try the fried pork chop the banana pudding is out of this world

Love this place

By Jim M |

The Colonnade is a gem. Old school Southern food and never fails. The atmosphere is wonderful and the people watching is great. We go usually once a week. Great cocktails

Old, started in 1927, but in a classic sense; true Southern in a city where it’s getting hard to find

By happyflyer45 |

Since it has been in business since 1927, this could be the place your grandparents came as kids. The carpet is new and it’s brighter under new ownership but parking is adequate and the food is still Southern classic. My parents brought me here as a kid. Loved the turkey and dressing, used to call it the “always Thanksgiving place.” Never had dressing as good as theirs, any place else. If you ask, they may have Waldorf salad as a side. You won’t find that on a lot of menus. Turkey and dressing, mac ‘n’ cheese and Waldorf salad with iced tea came to about $30 before tip. Bar is an added treat.

Still an Atlanta treasure

By Elyuts |

Enjoyed a Sunday afternoon meal. It was our second visit in t he last six month. The food is great as always. The service was excellent and was delivered by the same wait staff that has been doing so for all the years we have eaten there. Still a wonderful place to eat. …. Tip: always get the peppermint ice cream! Also.. best Bloody Mary in the city.

Best Fried Chicken & Sides

By PAUL R |

I see why this restaurant is still in business since 1927. I ordered their signature fried chicken with home made fresh cream corn and squash casserole. I couldn't finish so much great food. The ice tea was thirst quenching and delicious. The southern hospitality of my waitress made my dining experience quite pleasant. A must stop when in Atlanta.

Time travel

By rockstar89 |

Dining at this Atlanta icon is like taking a trip back in time. This place has been around the 20s and the inside looks like it might not have been updated since the 80s. Looking around it was def. a 'locals' hang with lots of folks in their 70s and 80s enjoying lunch. Got there in time for the early bird special which is a GREAT DEAL. Holy cow literally enough food for 3 people for $13. We started with great little rolls and cornbread. Delish. I had the wedge salad which was nothing special but was fresh. For my main I had the sirloin steak and mashed potatoes. It was excellent! It even comes with dessert. I had delicious peppermint ice cream. My wife and daughter had fried chicken tenders with Mac and cheese and after both working on it there was still enough left for a full meal. My other daughter had the sirloin burger which was as big as her head. No joke. Huge. Service was pretty slow but we weren't in any hurry. Worth a look just to try it before it goes by the wayside. This place is Old school and there arent many places like it left!!!

B Hungry

By morgan s |

Excellent food and lots of it ! Be prepared to eat. Everything is very well prepared, served properly and fairly priced. Mon-Thurs they have a discounted menu until 6pm, most items are on this menu. Be sure to save room for the peppermint ice cream, it is to die for ! Don't be scared by the part of town, good place, safe, friendly.

Did They Lose Their Cooks?

By Ron V |

Have eaten here many times before, & never was disappointed, but this was a pretty negative experience. I got takeout as was in the area for an errand. I had chicken fried chicken, which was dry & not very good. Salad was OK, but green beans tasted like straight out of a can. Wife had turkey, which was OK, but the dressing had no celery or onions; she didn't eat half of it, since (she says) it didn't taste like dressing. Wife also said her tomato aspic was sub par as there were large chunks of (hot) onion instead of grated sweet onion, & no black pepper. She still ate it, except the many, large chunks of onion she picked out. Neither if us cared much for the sweet potato souffle. Wife did say the turkey rice soup was good, except that it had large amount of heavy Italian seasoning. Bread tasted reheated. Paid forty dolllars for mediocre food; wasn't worth it especially since no drinks or dessert.

amazing

By mistyraine |

3 of us went in for an early dinner of Sunday afternoon, Two of us got the fried chicken which they both said was just amazing, I got the fried chicken livers which were the best i have ever had. Cooked to perfection and the amount you receive were way more than I could even eat (the large plate was covered) We all got the mashed potatoes which you could tell were handmade from scratch and i got the celery dressing with gravy which you could slap your momma good. What we did notice was that the crowd was mostly older people, but we will be returning for sure

My favorite Atlanta restaurant!

By GoCanes87 |

If I lived near The Colonnade, I'd probably eat there once a week. Everything on the menu looks tempting, but I always end up ordering the fried chicken. The portion is so large that I end up taking home enough food for a second meal. The chicken heats up so well and tastes great the next day. Try to save room for dessert, you won't be disappointed.

Old school.... both good and bad

By PeteinSO |

This place looks like it hasn’t changed much.... and same is true for food. Given the relatively low price, I’d say we got what we paid for. It’s not haute cuisine - ha! Service reasonably good, not outstanding. Ok place to eat, nothing special

Good Southern Food

By Stebs65 |

Some good southern food from an historic establishment. You can feel the history while sitting in the dining room. Very cool experience and good food.

Not sure why people love this place

By europeantraveler1953 |

I know this is a place old time atlantans love...but I don't get it! We find it a good location to meet up with family spread out..I'm a yankee so that food doesn't do it for me,although there are lots of dishes I like on the menu..but my husband is from atl and loves southern food and he agrees food used to be good but gone down hill.i had turkey it was horribly dry unless you smothered it in gravy.the pot roast looked like dog food, although my dogs food looks better.service was fine,I miss the old tiny waitresses..I guess they are all retired or worse.id say go to swan coach house much classier and better food by far.we need to find a better place in that area

Fun place and pretty good food

By Gary O |

There were 10 of us early Saturday evening and we were seated immediately. Our server was very experienced waiting tables with a large number of diners. She asked up front how we would like the checks to be divided and she got everything correct. Our drinks were brought very quickly, orders taken and food arrived in good order. I had the fish and chips and everything was very good. The side of cole slaw was excellent. The bread baskets were well stocked. Everyone seemed to enjoy their choices and we also enjoyed the atmosphere, an unusual type of restaurant in the Atlanta area, a throwback to the rat pack days. Everyone should give this place a try, you get good service and lots of good food.

Awesome food!

By Jade T |

I had the Marian salad, salmon croquettes, fried okra and a delicious apple crisp. What a great meal!

Abundant Food, Good Service

By Ken K |

Visited on a cold, wintery night when I didn't even have to jockey for a parking spot! Seated immediately. Attentive server. The usual fresh cracker and butter preceded the yeast rolls and cornbread muffins. My friend ordered pot roast and a salad. I had country fried steak, mash potatoes, and wonderful fresh spinach salad. Food was tasty but the fried steak had some "chewy" spots that did not want to be digested -- my only disappointment.

Great early bird special at

By Warren K |

Great early bird special at Colonnade tonight. J & Ray make the best cocktails. Our server, Valerie was super friendly & attentive. Always have a great time at this southern institution!

Great Food!

By hartkaysie |

This restaurant really delivers! I would describe the menu as “southern,” with fried selections and delicious gravies. As a true southerner myself, I give their sweet tea an A+. The service was great and graciously handled our party of fourteen in a very busy lunch hour. This restaurant is known for the filming of Hollywood movies. Excellent choice and we will be back!

Better than you remember

By Daniel D |

Back in the day, i used to eat here about once a week. Now, except for weekends, it's dinner only -- and much, much better than I remember. Although the standard dishes remain the same: salmon croquettes, fried chicken, calves liver, turkey and dressing, etc. Better than I recall are the fried oysters and fried shrimp. Here's how to order: pick an entree and ALWAYS choose a salad as one of your two side dishes. Trust me, it's the best deal. Then knock yourself out choosing between a multitude of riches (I usually settle on turnip greens). Don't miss the breads -- they come with the salad; meanwhile you get the traditional Saltines and butter when you sit down. Drinks surprisingly excellent, large, and well made. Portions large, dessert terrific if somehow you saved room. Look, this is old-fashioned Southern fare so not for dieters. Expect a highly diverse crowd, racially mixed, and while there are plenty of elderly folks there are also a lot of families.

Great Chicken

By Dora |

A bit of a wait but worth it. Great fresh friend chicken! Had a wedge salad - the beats were also very delicious.

IF YOU DON'T LOVE THIS PLACE, YOU CAN "KISS MY GRITS."

By jbtraveller2000 |

This place is an Atlanta institution, been coming here on and off most of my life, for about 10 years, the bar was my second living room. While the prices have gotten steeper, it is still a great value. Great food, Great service and fabulous drinks at the bar!!! Remember my glory days smoking a half pack of cigs, waiting for a table, Ahhh, youth.

Atlanta Classic. This is where you want to go for Sunday dinner for real Southern cooking

I can't remember when I first visited the Colonade, but it was probably 50 years ago for dinner on a Mother's Day. If it seems like everyone is older than you are and you are under 40, it is not your imagination, although younger couples can be seen with well-behaved children. Almost everyone is there because old Atlanta knows where to get the best fried chicken, yeast rolls, collard greens, mac&cheese, and banana pudding for Sunday dinner in Atlanta or a weekday supper that is anything but light. This is real Southern food, served in large quantities, much of which you will end up taking home. The prime rib is perfect, but don't hope to find it later in the week, because they will have sold out. If you have never had fried chicken livers (a Southern delicacy), try them here. Service provided by employees who have been there for years. I go several times a year for special occasions. Not fancy, but wear your Sunday clothes even on Wednesday. Also has the best drinks and one of the best bars for cruising older singles. Took forever to gt them to take credit cards.

Birthday dinner with a family member

By Edrick0330 |

First time I have ever eaten here and we had planned on going elsewhere but everyone ket steering us here. We went for it, the food was fantastic. This place even though it is right down where all the strip clubs are has been here for many years and I know why. Service was great, food even better and the prices were not too bad. I was told to get there early because the place does get busy fast. It does it changed when we were there. They had a good wait shortly after we sat down. They have a couple off menu items sometimes so always ask. The strawberry shortcake was delicious. I took a small bit and I usually do not do desert. They have a variety of food from seafood to beef. One in our party tried chicken livers. I do not eat them but after some pressure by others I tried one and it was not bad at all. I look forward to going back. We had the shrimp cocktail and it was great. Plenty of shrimp, all plump and juicy. The cocktail sauce had the right amount of kick. No complaints at all.

Costly bill for unspectacular food and little charm

By happyflyer45 |

It’s been open since 1927 but the experience is less rewarding and more expensive. It’s closed Mondays and Tuesday, open 5-9 Saturday, Sunday noon-8. The service was good. The food was unspectacular and costly. Their fried chicken (2 wings and 2 breasts) one small corn muffin and one yeast roll accompanied by two small sides and house salad (lettuce, chopped tomato pieces, two cucumber slices and a pickled beet slice) was $30. Tea was $3. With tax and tip it came to $42.95. At least you could take some of the chicken home.

Southern cooking at its finest

By avery59 |

We went on Thursday night after a trip to the World of Coke. We arrived around 7 pm and had about a 30 minute wait. That spoke volumes to the popularity of this Atlanta tradition. I had the pork loin with dressing. It was delicious and the vegetable sides were also. The sweet potato souffle was spot on. My husband had the fried chicken and it was a huge order with 4 pieces of chicken. This was some of the best fried chicken I have ever tasted. It was well worth the wait and the service could not have been any better. I had not eaten there in a number of years and the quality was the same - excellent!

somethings just never change thankfully

By Bbqman3341 |

it's like eating in the kitchen of your grandmothers house. frangrant yeast rolls fill your lungs as casseroles, pot pies, fried chicken and meat loaf come out of the oven. sometimes i think you've got to have blue hair to eat here. that's okay. they know what they are doing and do it well. they touch on all the little things, the relish, a pickle, sprig of parsley with a flair here. the food is good. the service sincere and impeccable. an opportunity to eat here is special, seize it. you can thank me later. and it's roquefort not blue cheese.

91 years old and going strong

By panpanda |

What restaurant survives 91 years? Better be fantastic! Here was our Saturday lunch: We each had a salad. cornbread. rolls, a soft drink, another side dish, and a main dish. One of us had grilled fish and the other grilled chicken. A dessert also came with our meals, but we were so stuffed we declined. Each meal was only $13. What an unbelievable deal!

I won’t go back..ever

By Patrick M |

I have been a loyal customer of The Colonnade for at least 38 years, since 1980. I won’t go back. Ever. The last three times I’ve been there, with the same friends, it has take us more than 2 hours to get seated. Tables arriving hours behind us go seated before we did. Mean people run the front door, like their personal fiefdom. Tonight, I walked out, on crutches, after 2 1/2 hours. I’m done. It is a cash cow full of mean queens. It has seen its day. It does not deserve the following it has.

My semi-annual Colonnade rave review!!

By Gary B |

When I tell people about The Colonnade many of my friends can't understand why I rave about it. Comfort food/down home cooking, eclectic customer mix, saltines and butter to start, an array of sides that include tomato aspic, collared greens, fried okra and the bean of the day (large limas on this trip), sometimes a lengthy wait (no reservations taken), sometimes an overflowing parking lot, etc. But you know what...that all just makes it more wonderful! The Colonnade is an Atlanta institution and if visit Atlanta and don't try The Colonnade you haven't experienced Atlanta! I ate at a new trendy Atlanta restaurant tonight...overpriced and underwhelming. Far less satisfying than my fried chicken with house salad and large lima beans (oh, and large shrimp cocktail), saltines and a basket of breads (FREE) and a couple really stiff martini's I had at The Colonnade. I visit Atlanta every 6 months for 2 weeks on business. At least 5 of the nights in town I eat at The Colonnade. Some nights I've waited an hour and a half to get a table. But the clientele are so fun and friendly...who cares! If you want expensive trendy Atlanta food than go get it. But DO NOT skip The Colonnade! I love it!

Over 90 and Still Great.

By Patrick W |

Excellent spot for comfort food. The fried chicken is great, and so are the steaks. The vegetable selection is huge and the desserts are homemade.

A must do in Atlanta!

By jhankinsnc |

You won't want to miss this hidden gem in Atlanta! Out of the way on Cheshire Bridge Road, but worth the trip! Excellent southern food. Friendly service. A very diverse crowd from the blue haired local older crowd to the local gay crowd. everyone is friendly and the food is great!

Extremely Pricey Southern Food

By ddmullis |

I was excited about having dinner at the Colonnade tonight since it recently reopened. The overall service was decent and food was excellent including the steamed cabbage and stewed corn. I was completely shocked at how much they have raised their prices on some entrees it appears to be 40%. Expect to pay $30 per person average with non alcoholic drink and tip I can now understand why there was no wait for a table at 7PM and the dining room was only half full.

One of Atlanta's Greatest Secrets

By egwolff |

I know its open 7 days a week, but it is OUR Sunday dinner place to go to. I will not go into all the dishes, but I will say you have to try the fried chicken at least once. My wife and I are particularly fond of the bar and its bartender. If you enjoy good Southern cooking then this is your place. Don't expect white table cloth, it's more like wood veneer in a good way.

Excellent food

By StevenHScher |

My wife & I went for dinner on a week night. It was not filled to capacity, & that is why I don't know why the food was so slow coming out of the kitchen. Plus it was about 10 minutes after we were seated before our server came to our table. I had the fried shrimp ($18), which was served with 2 sides. It was not only delicious but it was a huge portion. My wife had the sirloin burger ($13), which was huge & it came with cole slaw & a huge portion of sweet potato fries. My wife took half it home. The food here has always been excellent. This was the first time the service wasn't so good.

The Colonade Party

By Marko |

The Colonade hosted my Mom’s 90th birthday to perfection! The server Rayann was efficient, kind, and professional! She easily adjusted the service to the party schedule! Our meal of fried chicken, green beans, sweet potato soufflé, side salad, and rolls and cornbread was terrific! Thank you Jodi at the Colonade!

Old school dining at its best!

By Milthill |

We don't get to The Collonade often enough. It is quite some distance from our home, but we made the trek after church services and (as always) we were very glad that we had. My wife had Fried Chicken with the Marian Salad and Whipped Potatoes. I chose Fried Catfish, Lettuce Wedge, and Rutabagas. Our shared dessert was Coconut Pie. They never disappoint. Everything as spot on!

Wonderful first visit

By Tamara M |

My husband and I moved to Atlanta in December 2018, so we are enjoying visiting all of the restaurants, especially the ones that have been around for awhile like The Colonnade. We decided to give them a try on a week day night and even then they were very busy, but we were seated very fast. Our server was amazing, he was extremely friendly and made sure that our meals were exactly as we had requested them. The food was delicious and plentiful. This is a restaurant that we know my parents will love and so when they come for their next visit, we will be sure to bring them for dinner.

Not seasoned well but a historic place in Atlanta

By Cynthia H |

Went there with a friend. The food was cheap. We caught the Early Bird Special which runs 5pm-6:30pm, not sure which days. For $13 you received an entree, two sides, drink, and dessert. Food was ok, but not very seasoned. The peppermint ice cream was awesome. I had the boneless chicken, sweet potatoes, and collards. All were filling but required salt and pepper. Service was ok, our waiter was having a bad day.

An Atlanta Tradition

By unctompr |

Since 1927, The Colonnade has delighted customers with great southern cooking! Their menu offers a wide variety to choose from and there is a nice bar area to relax while waiting for your table. They don't take reservations and don't seat incomplete parties. My longtime favorite entree is their Fried Shrimp!

Great place to celebrate food with family!

By gregoryg2017 |

Outstanding staff , very friendly and helpful with menu! Very quick with water and mixed drinks! menu is outstanding with something for everyone. We ordered a vegetable plate, fried shrimp, chicken strips, and trout almandine! all had the garden salad and a side vegetable. Food was very tasty and filling! Family enjoyed the family atmosphere, and look forward to another visit! Great job by staff and cooks!

Good, Old Fashioned Meal

By Rebecca A |

My teenager and I had dinner here the other (early) evening. He was the youngest person there by decades and even I felt like one of the younger ones! Our server was nice and attentive. Although the interior feels a little dated they do have real table cloths and napkins; tea and water are served in tall glasses - not plastic. Most entrees are a meat and 2 type of option. But the food quality and manner of preparation are good. My son had grilled pork chops - they were large and very good. The black-eyed peas were seasoned well and not mushy. I had the filet mignon - it was cooked precisely to order and was very tender and tasty.

Best Bar for Sunday Brunch

By Bona Fide B |

The glorious diversity of the Colonnade is perhaps best lighted at the bar on Sunday. Not one of us was like the other, but there was joy, fun, and delicious dish for all. Classics like Tomato Aspic, Cube Steak and Gravy, Fried Chicken Livers all made with love. The staff is like family (many are), and you cannot go wrong with chatting with your neighbors. Some things should never change, including the good wig on the Transgender woman we enjoyed discussing the qualities of the fry-cook's skills, whilst sipping cocktails.

Best Southern Cuisine!

By jeanhunsucker |

Our family of 10 dined at The Colonnade on Thanksgiving Evening! Did not need a reservation yet we were served fairly quickly considering the restaurant was packed out. Staff and servers extremely accommodating and everyone in our party was pleased with their food. A really special dining experience for us!! I highly recommend this restaurant!

Delicious southern home cooking

Fried chicken, black eyed peas, home made mashed potatoes, fried okra.... so much deliciousness. Think comfort food and beyond.

Great Southern Cooking

By dennisatlanta2017 |

One of my top five in Atlanta. 15 or 16 differents types of fresh vegetables. Best fried chicken in Atlanta. On weekends they have prime rib which is the best in town. Great place and been here since 1927! Finaly started taking credit cards 6 months ago!

Delicious 😋🤤

By awookk |

So I went here for the first time after Church service. The parking lot was so full I had to wait for someone to leave for a space. After I got inside a guy who works at the hotel doing security told me I could have parked there.I will know next time I didn’t know whether I would have got towed or a fine.So let’s get down to the food.I ordered the classic southern fried chicken with dressing and chicken giblets and Mac & Cheese with rolls and cornbread.Go get you a plate the food is delicious 😋.You Have generations of family coming here. The guy who does security said they been here since 1927.I read off the internet before I went it has been 90 years.

A Great Family Meal

By Ed Harris |

We had a great meal tonight with 7 members of our family tonight. Marcele, our server, was very attentive & informative, meeting and aticipating all our needs. Everyone agreed the food was exceptional and up to the Colonnade standards, from the fried chicken, pork chops, southern sides, whipped potatoes & gravy, sweet potatoe Souffle, Mac & Cheese, and the Fried chicken salad. Yes, the menu has been updated, but what restuarant hasn't updated their menu, especially given the current price point, of beef and other more expensive entrees. I think you will be well pleased

AN INSTITUTIOIN

By YoungOpa |

An institution is where I should be put if I go here again. The food was mediocre, but the service was horrendous. When we paid, we mentioned the bad service to the cashier, who then argued with us that it could not have been...REALLY? it was terrible. The place was packed and long wait, but why?

Not as good as the first time

By livelife h |

This was my second time eating at this establishment. The first time I went the food was amazing. This time it was just okay. The server was nice and the food was decent the chicken was good but the sides were nothing to brag about

Bravo Colonnade @

By Sascha D |

Truly enjoyed the mellow retro atmosphere, as well as the food. Terrific chicken fried steak & onion rings 😋 My server was charming & attentive. And unlike many places, the ice tea was clearly fresh brewed, not instant !

It was just ok, wouldn't return.

By Heath Wagner |

I was excited to dine here based on the suggestion of a friend that lives in Atlanta. Heard this was some of the, "best southern cooking" offered in the city. I will say the friend chicken was good. It had a good flavor to it. The side dishes were at best, just ok. My biggest issue was the price. I don't mind paying a higher price for a really good meal but for the price we paid per person here, we could have dined at a much nicer establishment. Maybe my expectations were set to high based on how good we were told the Colonnade was. In future visits to Atlanta, we will skip dining here agian.

The “Experience” is only reason to go

By Hollie2324 |

Don’t let anyone tell you the Colonnade has good food! It is mediocre at best. On recent night had chicken livers that were OLD, dry and cold. Know they were holdover from lunch. Sides equally disappointing But, few go to Colonnade to eat. They go to drink, see OLD Atlanta (and I mean age-old) and partake in ol’ South dining...1950’s style. The waitstaff has been there forever and very pleasant, generally. Wish I could say same for cashier Why go? Early bird meals! Easy parking! An Atlanta institution. But have no expectations of fine dining!

Still Great

By jeffaudit0418 |

I have been going to the Colonnade for 40 years, it's a Southern Cuisine institution, and an Atlanta landmark. After Covid the Colonnade showed signs of bitting the bullet, along with a lot of other places. Fortunately new owners have stepped in to save this Atlanta Food Mecca. This was my first visit in several years and won't be my last, the place is back! Strong service, excellent food and a clientele of old Atlantans that cannot be found anywhere else, save the Varsity maybe. I had the chicken fried chicken with lima beans and fried okra; it was perfect; fresh, well prepared with good portions. My picture shows my empty plate, I ate every bite. There are always pictures of nice looking food in these reviews but I wanted you to see the results of good tasting food served to a hungry Southern Man! Check out the Colonnade when in Atlanta, it's a can't miss proposition.

Southern comfort food at it's most delightful best!!!!

By A54Gem |

I love the Colonnade. My son loves the Colonnade. I always look forward to my next visit there. The Chicken Fried Steak is my favorite - always piping hot with a coating so light it seems to hover over the chicken. Even so, I've eaten most of the entrees on the menu, from ribs to turkey to shrimp to chicken livers - the list goes on. The veggies are delicious and the beans are like grandma's - melt in your mouth perfection! The hosts and wait staff are very attentitive and pleasant - we go so often we've been served by just about each server. Most of the servers have been there for a while and I think that's a real testament to the Colonnade.

A Country Club for Everyone Else

By lancestarr |

What can you saw about the Colonnade? This place has really good food, great cocktails and a fun crowd. Always check the specials as the chef is creative and there is always something different and interesting. If you want the standards, the fried chicken is some of the best, but chicken fried chicken is a personal favorite. Where else can you get peppermint ice cream everyday of the year? This is a place to enjoy on a regular basis.

Large portions

By Ron C |

We were here for dinner on a Sunday evening. There was no wait for a table, but had to wait about 45 minutes for our food after we ordered. We were impressed with the large portions, very good Southern cooking. This is place the "locals" come to.

Where the Gays and Grays Go Back In Time for Good Cheap Food

By AllanH328 |

My second time visiting this very busy restaurant stuck in the 1970s was a good as the first. The crowd was very large and you had to wait for a table but it went quickly and is a fun atmosphere. The place took me back to my childhood when my family would go to restaurants like this and the menu included items I haven’t seen on a menu in years. I got he fried chicken and it was very juicy and delicious. Their drinks were very good and reasonably priced. It is a must to try when in Atlanta

Talk about good.

By Willx |

Met friends here for dinner on a very busy and boisterous Friday night. There were 5 in my group and we had to wait a while for a table, but as always, it was worth it. The dining area was packed but the waitstaff who are like family at this place, kept it all in order and managed to get the orders taken and delivered to the table in perfect time. I had the fried shrimp with the traditional Marion salad and fried okra. Everything was cooked to perfection, and the fresh bread was so so good. One negative for me was the electronic piano playing which started at the peak of the crowd - that, added to the high noise level in the restaurant, made normal conversation impossible. This is an addition since the last time I visited the Colonnade, and to me, is totally unnecessary. One of the fun things about going to the Colonnade is to visit and talk with old friends - the piano music has made that much more difficult.

A Southern tradition

By Chazndanooge |

I have been coming to this restaurant for over 20 years and it has always been one of my favorites in Atlanta. The drinks are strong, the food is awesome and consistent, and the service is always spot on. It's the kind of place that you can take your big-city friends or your parents and they can actually have some really good Southern food while watching the transition in the customers during the evening. Hint - the nickname for this restaurant is "Where the gays and grays go to graze".

Great Home-Cooking

By Bonnie |

This place still looks like it is from the 20's but the food is wonderful! I had the Port Loin and is was tender and moist. The sides were good, mashed was bland, as was the Chocolate Cream Pie! The wait staff was very friendly and helpful. We arrived for the Early Bird - you get an entree, 2 sides, tea and a dessert! Great value.

Bad Experience!

By Raymond T |

The restaurant refusef to seat our party until the entire group of 5 arrived. We asked that the restaurant hold our usual table until our entire party arrived. Two of our party were held up in traffic because of road construction. When they arrived, we found that our table for 5 had been given to ONE person. If they had seated the 3 of us before the entire group arrived, we would have bought drinks and they would have made much more money than the ONE person they seated gave them!
