Visiting my daughter in Brooklyn and her boyfriend suggested we go here for the chicken sandwich. Glad we did! One of the best I have ever had. Hot (both temp and spice) and crispy. The “fabulous “ Manhattan was great and where else can you watch “Smokey and the Bandit” on an old “tube” tv. Great place!!!!

The Commodore !!!! Stephen Tanner, the alumni from Pies-n-thighs is no fledgling to the world of fried chicken. Here at the Commodore he's making some of the best and fair priced bar food. Ordering here can be tricky at night. The staff was very kind, but the orthodox way of sitting down and a hostess coming over to take your order is not the way it's done here. No, rather you walk up to their bar get the attention of the bartender and place your order and if you're lucky enough to find a seat prepare yourself for some A1 chicken. What you should be ordering is the Fried chicken plate (flash price). It comes with 3 thighs and biscuits with honey butter and hot sauces. Chicken was fantastic, super crispy and fatty. God, I should've crushed a Crestor into my meal cause I could just feel my blood starting to crawl to a halt. The biscuits were great too, who doesn't love those, but add the honey butter to it and the chicken to kick it up a notch, if you can afford the ER visit of course. Came here with a friend during a day trip to Brooklyn on a trip from the UK. The place itself is dirty and dark (we had to move tables because the seat was broken). The bartender was overtly rude to my friend buying our first round and when I bought the second round it became clear she wanted a tip with each purchase rather than left at the table on the end (which was what we were preparing to do). However rather than helpfully pointing this out to a pair of tourists she said this in a rude and hostile way which made us leave after we had finished these drinks. I understand tipping culture is different in the USA to the UK, however I would expect some attempt at customer service before demanding a tip. This was not a friendly pointer re culture differences; it was a rude and aggressive attack. On the plus side, happy hour beers are $4 each and apparently the food is good, although we did not stay to sample it.

This place is no frills but delicious! The fried chicken is out of this world. Huge portions for reasonable prices. Beers come in cans but it's Brooklyn so it's cool. It's my go to fried chicken spot.

Only found out about this place after we asked at a bar around the corner where was good for food, the barman told us this local place was great. We would never have found it if we weren’t looking. With my girlfriend being a vegetarian we were hesitant at first as we weren’t sure if they would have anything she would like. I order the Medium Breast and she ordered the Veggie Burger. We both genuinely thought they were great, like as in, we thought it was the best meal in NY good. Sides were also class, Mac&Cheese and Fries was brilliant also but would suggest small portions even if sharing. Would also say the cocktails were nice but quite expensive. If in Brooklyn I would make an effort to go here, that’s how much we liked it and would recommend it. Service was also pretty decent, the staff even recommended us a few more bars to visit that we really enjoyed, big thanks 👍🏽

This is definitely a no frills spot, but the nachos and fried chicken are the best in the city! Definitely will make this my go to Sunday spot! Also they make a mean pina colada.

Don't expect this local joint to unfurl the red carpet--or even mark the entrance to its door. Don't expect them to accept credit cards or seat you. Don't expect waitresses. Indeed, the charm of this dark and blaring Williamsburg abyss (built to repel tourism) lies precisely in its adorable void of light and services. The faithful willing to seat themselves, order at the bar, and pay with cash can expect to receive a delicious and INEXPENSIVE pair of chicken breasts cooked in a kitchen we dare not investigate.

Chicken here was pretty good. I like bars that serve coors lite in a can. If you don't you will be upset in this bar. There's a whole bunch of hipsters here.

This place is about as casual as you can get, so don't go there for the decor. Go for the fried chicken. It's hot, crispy and juicy with the required amount of grease. It's excellent. I'll be back.

this hidden gem of fried goodness looks like nothing outside... just green walls with a few dark windows... inside there's a huge full bar, serves beer and all of the above drinks! i only visit this place for their fried chicken... on April 3, 2017...we got lucky there were only a dozen people in there... this used to be my favorite fried chicken place... you know how the little things make a difference? well... THREE of us walked in... you seat yourself... the THREE of us sat at the bar, and all THREE of us ordered drinks... my cousin from England wanted the best fried chicken in NYC... i lead her wrong. even she was disappointed at the service... since we ordered TWO dishes, we only got TWO plates... dish 1 - fried chicken sandwich dish 2 - 3 pc fried chicken now that the TREE of us received our food, with THREE drinks... you'd think the BLONDE haired woman, or the TALL GUY who looked at me eat off of the NAPKIN would kindly offer a plate... NO. how do you serve THREE people, TWO dishes (in which we asked for), and see ONE eat off of a napkin? common sense guys...

Went here after starting our evening in Skinny Dennis (great) but feeling hungry. We ordered the fried chicken plate which was large enough to share. I really enjoyed the crispy chicken although my husband thought it could have more flavour. The biscuits were good too! The cocktails were ok but probably not worth double price of beer. Atmosphere was good (Sunday night) but some tables are close together and there was a very loud couple next to us but luckily they didn't stay long! I would return.

I only came for drinks, so I cannot comment on the food. I was very pleased with the price of my drink as well as the overall taste. The service was fast and friendly. However, the interior felt a bit dated and almost grungy. It felt almost tired. I didn't stay long, but I would go back in the future.

I went to the commodore to try their tuna melt but the brunch menu was not the same as their regular menu. Opted for their chicken biscuit sammy which I had in 2020 at the height of the pandemic from their take out window. Just as good as I remember it. The drinks were ok. Nice to see the inside of the place. The bartender and waitress were super nice and accommodating and even fed my Winter dog copious amounts of bacon. Good vibes here.

Sit here with friends and drink the day away on Bloody Mary's. Amazing service, amazing drinks, just a really nice place to hang out. Unless you like trendy, smart places, then you're not welcome, please don't ruin a good thing.

The fried chicken, as promised, is well brined and juicy, crunchy and has a ton of batter (hopefully you like that style). The plate is huge too and I ended up taking half home. The plate comes with biscuits which are ok but tastes like it was cooked a while ago, which is funny since I was there as soon as the kitchen opened at 5pm. The Mac and cheese also seemed to have been made a day ago and was lukewarm. Thankfully it reheats nicely but you don't come to the Commodore to eat food the next day. The atmosphere is that of a typical dingy bar and definitely felt like a low rent place. This feels like a late, late night place. Overall the chicken was great but everything else was eh.

This is a great bar. I'm sure the locals are trying to keep the lid on this place! There is no signage at all anywhere, and from the outside it looks positively frightening. But inside it has that warm, cozy atmosphere of all truly special local bars. It's not quite a dive bar; it's just "lived in." And they have good, affordable food too! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit on a Sunday afternoon where we had the fried chicken with biscuits and the fish & grits and a couple of pints of cold beer. They were playing great music, and the kids played a bunch of rounds on the free-to-play old school videogame. Please note that we went on a Sunday at 12:30pm. From the other reviews (including New York Magazine's review), I gather it can get very crowded and difficult to get to and from the bar, where all the ordering takes place (there is no table service, but if you order food someone does bring it to your table from the kitchen). So, be warned, it could be crowded at peak times.

The entrance of this bar is very elusive as there are no windows and it looks like you could potentially be entering a strip club. The theme inside is very retro. It resembles something out of the 70s. Me and my colleagues got absolutely wasted in there lol. Literally left stumbling out of the bar. It’s a good times for some good drinks

Self proclaimed fried chicken connoisseur, went for a fun date night to this place. Was super busy with the bar scene but managed a small table. Service was exceptionally por but when we finally got served the food came out fast. The fried chicken was tender but the skin soggy and very oily. Flavours were there but it's a place I won't come back to for fried chicken. The Commodore is somewhere I'd treat as a drinking place and not where I'd eat at.

We walked past the Commodore twice before taking a chance on a blank shop front with bar-like sounds coming out. It was very busy inside and we couldn't get a table. We had heard that the food is very good here but ended up just having a drink and playing their old arcade game. If we had a seat I think we would have stayed longer and had a really good night there.

The usual contingent of tattooed locals come here for the cheap beer and the kitschy cocktails. The noise level is twisted painfully high this evening. My company does not appreciate this at all, but some positive comments about the charming decor.

Came here for food/drinks before a show at the Knitting Factory. Other reviews talk a lot about it being a "hipster" place -- but to be honest, the relaxed and unpretentious environment was a plus in my humble opinion. Best of all, the spicy chicken is absolutely delicious - and really was spicy! Will definitely come back.

Popped here after the Brooklyn Brewery tour. Being honest, if it wasn't in a lonely planet pull out guide a couple of years back I would have walked on past as it has no sign and looks pretty dingy, however lesson learnt in not judging a book by its cover it has a really good atmosphere, good value and great food! No Brooklyn but Pacifico on tap. Give it a go, a nice night out in Williamsburg away from MidTown madness.

Great little bar throw back to the 90s quick and delicious food the Hot Chicken sandwich was awesome, fries on the little crispy side but i was full after the sando, really great quick service at the bar. The price point was also reasonable for the area.

The Commodore is hip type of restaurants tacked away in Williamsburg went there for late lunch and we were not disappointed... The food was super yummy and easy on the wallet! The service was good!

We had a quick burger there. It was good, nothing special to say. Atmosphere was nice, full of local crazy people. We enjoyed it

The worst food ever eaten in ten days visit of new york city. Maybe beverage was better, but food was not good. To take in account only if there are no alternatives, and nyc has a lot of better alternatives. Also vintage games were really not interesting. I would type 2/5 scores, but my wife said that 1/5 is even to much, and I obey :)

I think the best way to describe this spot is nostalgic. Bringing back memories of your hometown dive bar. Perfect atmosphere for a few cheap drinks and good beers.Limited menues - tables, loud atmosphere, and crowded. This seems like your standard hipster dive bar. But look beneath the surface and what you'll find is food that would make many decent restaurants envious.

We were told this was the best fried chicken. We were stuffed after a full day of doing nothing except eating and walking! This was our last stop. We would have never known it was there if we didn't have a local with us. We were lucky to grab a booth but it was so loud. The DJ blasts music and it is almost impossible to talk to each other. There were also poor little fish in the wall that must hate all the noise. Not sure how they're even alive. The fried chicken was pretty good. 4 pieces and decently sized but the biscuits they came with were definitely on the small side. Overall the food was good but not something I would go out of my way for again.

I was invited for a going away and let me tell you, this place is a gem hidden in plain sight. Wasn’t expecting much from the looks of the place, but the hot chicken sandwich and fries are good. The size of the sandwich was more than filling and the large fries are more than enough to share. I also ordered the biscuits which were fresh and come with this amazing honey butter. If you do plan on visiting, make sure you order a side of biscuits. You won’t regret it!

Definitely did not live up to the positive reviews. The bar/restaurant was dark and dingy. The chicken sandwich was not that great and the brisket sandwich was horrible. To round out the experience, the bar tender could care less about any level of service.

Okay I know my title might throw you off but , I really loved the food and drinks ... The bartenders are great. The issue that I had with this place is that u have to seat yourself .. This almost caused me to walk right out , but luckily we found a spot by the bar. As u can see I was frustrated for a moment. But then the bartenders started mixing Drinks and I had the Trailways (grapefruit juice, vodka, sugar, and mint)... This drink is a must try !!!! So when u read this and u go here try this drink !!! Next we ordered food and we got the cheese burger , chicken & biscuits, and the hot chicken sandwich ... Idk which is the best but I tried them all so go in a large group and try them all.. Food was great !! Drinks are great!!! Atmosphere is Williamsburg !!! Haha!!! Go there !!! Try it !!

Average drinks, ok food, not much atmosphere. Not really worth the price when you can get just as good chicken at a fast food and better selection of drinks elsewhere.

The tomato soup and burgers are excellent! Great place if you are looking for a cool, local and unpretentious place for a lunch or dinner.
Yasssss!
This place was everything. After going to snobby Paris and entering hipster Brooklyn- this place was just EVERYTHING I needed at the time. Kind of like a one night stand after a bad break up. Brian, you are the man. Don't let anyone tell you different. You were fun, funny and oh so welcoming. I love this place so much I could burst. And the Fried Chicken. Let's just say, it's 7:15am and it's all I can think about. Epically delicious. Best I've ever had. Commodore, oh Commodore, thanks for the great night.
