Wow Factor- Decor & Food

By Bruce C |

The entire menu is loaded with terrific options. Every item was wonderful and reasonably priced. We started with many appetizers including the Brussel sprouts, roasted carrots, crab cakes, and shoestring potatoes. They were all wonderful, and the shoestrings were out of this world. The kale salad was loaded with beets, candied pecans and goat cheese and this too was delicious. I have the salmon poke bowl and this contained plenty salmon as well as of additional ingredients including seaweed salad and green flying fish roe. This too was wonderful. The cocktails were unique and worth stepping away from your favorite drink. A+ meal.

Fun Girls night out

By Archie |

We enjoyed hanging out at the restaurant. Our service was unfortunately sloppy but the ambiance and decor was nice. We enjoyed the drinks and shareable plates. I liked the tuna tartare spring rolls and chicken skewers. The Brussel sprouts were nicely done. Its great to see vegetarian options on the menu.

Just around the corner

By daveandmarilee |

The Sonesta Hotel, around the corner, suggested Continental. It is a cool place with sky high ceilings and fantastic lighting. Besides great atmosphere, the food was fast and delicious. I left you photos of the food plus they had really interesting cocktails.

Great Staff and menu choices

By Chili Dip |

Wide-ranging menu with perfect sharing portion sizes. All kinds of food styles and an extensive adult beverage menu. I get something different every time, one of the only restaurants that I do that! The environment is creative and welcoming, the atmosphere is a little loud but that totally works in the space. Staff was very courteous and helpful, always a good experience with them.

Outstanding

By LarryConnecticut_USA |

We were a group of 19 and we had pre ordered our meal that was served family style. We loved all the dishes. Everyone was so accommodating. I am looking forward to returning.

Good lunch

By PTycz |

Had a great salad and drink. Service was very good. Rest of the family really enjoyed their meals. Would go again.

Happy hour drink on Upper Outdoor Patio

By wheelspw |

My wife and I stopped for a quick drink before dinner on the upstairs outdoor patio. Quick service, great atmosphere, and drinks well made.

Still great 20 years later

By Kiki178131 |

We used to go to the old location 20 years ago. Glad to discover it still exists during our recent trip. We brought our kids and sat on the roof deck. Cocktails were great (my husband's second round never arrived but they took it off the bill). Food portions are huge. I had Korean fried chicken and I got three huge pieces of chicken, enough to share. My son and I split the tuna appetizer (spicy!), my husband had corned beef fried rice and both my kids got the lobster mac (they could have easily shared). The whole table munched on the shoestring fries. I felt like the spice could be turned down a bit, but good vibe, good food, good drinks,.

Lovely to look at, great service, very tasty food

By Snarth |

Wandered in at random for a last minute dinner after other plans fell thru-- and we made a good choice! The service was exceptionally friendly and prompt. The lobster mac & cheese and fish tacos were EXCELLENT. The soup was a bit greasy and the zucchini pancakes so-so-- hence the 4 not 5 stars. The lovely decor is unusual and really cheered us up after a rough day. We'll be back.

Good food & service

By Michael D |

We visited The Continental after a long day of traveling. The service was excellent. The lobster Mac n’ cheese featured orzo rice and was very good. There is not a lot of lobster, but it’s still a good dish.

Excellent, diverse food.

By Charles T |

Really nice place. With the riots not sure Center City is as safe as it once was, but can't argue with the food here. The Szechuan first are special.

A step back in time!

By Kerry B |

We loved The Continental! The mid-century modern aesthetic was sophisticated yet fun at the same time. There are Cadillac booths on the first floor and swing seats on the second floor looking over the first. The whole vibe here is just cool. Service was friendly and the Philly cheese steak egg rolls are great! We'll definitely put The Continental on our list of places to return.

Dinner

By 2001NH |

We were able to find quick reservations the day of. Lots of seating choices. We ended up on the top floor. The cocktails are wonderful. I really enjoyed the risky business. The eggplant skewer with miso was super tasty and flavorful. The French onion soup dumplings were unique. They were on the heavier side, but that is what you would expect when you think of the flavors and components. The calamari salad and pastrami fried rice were definitely interesting and very tasty. The seared tuna on top of mushroom risotto does not make sense in your head, but does make sense on the tongue. Overall, very pleased with dinner. Wish we had room for dessert!

Family trip

By Pinebabies |

Service was fabulous. Johnny T was great. The Cobb salad was amazing. Udon noodle soup was good but not enough noodles. Calamari salad wasn’t tasty. Fries were dunno draft beers unfortunately. This visit was an unexpected but pleasant. Thai chicken on Bib salad was really quite good.

Good Sandwich for Lunch

By MrB003 |

Had the roast beef sandwich for lunch. Came out piping hot with good dipping sauce. Also had a cup of escarole soup.

Roof deck recommended

By nycmom22 |

Three stories above center city, the Thai chicken salad is delicious. It is also large. There is another branch downtown. Reservations a must on a Fri. Or Sat. Night.

Best Asian chicken salad EVER!!!

By Wendy P |

This restaurant was recommended by our concierge at our hotel and we are so glad we went. Cool vintage style decor with hanging chairs upstairs. Great selection and huge portions! Loved everything about it!!!!

nice cool [place

By lemaitefreiburg |

great experience went with some friends as a start of the evening very good selection food and also drinks great service very direct

Regular haunt never dissapoints

By TerribleGit |

So.... about once a month for the last couple of years on my regular business trips to Philly, I usually visit Continental mid-town. The unusual menu has some good variety, something for everyone. The food is always well prepared and courteously served. The ambience is great with its subdued lighting and 50s diner feel bought up to date though the hanging seats upstairs, whilst loved by some are avoided by others. Well recommended mid-priced mid-week mid-town max-satisfaction!

Breakfast

By jeff f |

Was there with extended family for breakfast. The service was great and the food was very good. The big open area on the main floor can be very noisy so if you want to engage in a group conversation I would suggest taking a table upstairswhere it is quieter and more spread out.

Fun Girls Night Out

By Peggy H |

We enjoyed the shared plates atmosphere and the server was great. My two favorite dishes were the shaved kale and brussel sprouts salad and the Korean tacos. Lump crab meat pad thai missed the mark a little for me but my friends loved it.

Happy find

By sandy c |

We were in town to have a hospital visit and had the evening to go look for something to eat and found this restaurant. It has a cool Rooftop Bar and eclectic seating The menu was diverse and the portion size was plentiful. We had great meatball appetizers and the salad entree was just yummy.

Very nice

By Olivier-Bordelais |

Very good evening with friends. A bit of a 70s setting. Very good cocktails on the 1st to wait for the table. We opted for the formula of sharing the whole menu, it was really very good but we stalled before the last dish because even when sharing the portions were...American. Quite noisy though.

Excellent upstairs bar

By Lori G |

The bar is really chill and has indoor plus outdoor seating. You can order food here too, but we didn't. The bartender was Alo and we came back each night we were staying in the area. Great selection of drinks. I had the Never Dull Your Sparkle with a tad less honey and it was perfect. And can you believe Alo knew what I ordered the evening before and this bar is pretty busy! That's amazing service there!

Simple and delicious

By Indylady55 |

Delicious meal. We shared the hummus, chicken spring rolls and cheese steak egg rolls. All the dishes cooked and seasoned perfectly. These were large portions and too much for just 2 people. Service was fast and friendly. Cool vibe atmosphere. Would highly recommend.

Delicious

By Vassiliki T |

Everything was so delicious fancy and the staff very politely!Great decoration!i would go back!!!!!!

Service not so good and request to NOT be put on the roof.

By Wander |

I usually am at Continental a few times a year, mostly for work related meals. It's usually a favorite of ours, but today was not a good experience. We were a bigger group of 10 so they put us up on the rooftop lounge, which we had all never been to so it was exciting to see a new part of the restaurant. We were put along a long booth with a bunch of tables pushed together, but the booth was so unclean. Crumbs everywhere and stained. Not an upscale experience. The tables themselves were also dirty with crumbs and food smears from what I assume were previous guests. Unacceptable. And then there was the service. Yes we were a bigger group, but other than a group of 4 we were the ONLY group up there and there was a dedicated server on the floor and our service was non-existent. He never took our menus after we ordered our food. Only once they brought out our food did they take them away. And then they took 30 minutes to get us our food and even then they only brought out half the group's entrees and the others' took at least another 10 minutes maybe 15. It's so awkward having to just sit and wait and hope they come back soon. No reassurance it would only be a few minutes. Nothing. Very disappointed with our experience at Continental.

Great times!

By Dbldn11ias |

Hadn't been to Continental in years, but was excited to pop by for lunch with my two best girls on a busy holiday Saturday. A few weeks before Christmas, on a rainy and blustery day, we settled in for a mid-afternoon meal, and I'm very glad we did. Our server was friendly, quick with a smile and walked me through the seasonal beer selection, which wasn't all that I had hoped for. We were in a bit of a rush, what with a hungry five-year-old with us, so we bypassed appetizers and went right to our meal. They were on their brunch menu, and there were lots of enticing choices. I took his recommendation and enjoyed the curry chicken salad naan-wich, which was really flavorful and delicious. With shoestring fries, it was a great lunch. My date enjoyed the southwest cheesesteak eggrolls, a personal fave for her. My daughter had the lobster mac and cheese, an adult portion as there is no kids menu. It was yummy, although had a lot of the shredded breading on it. Very solid though. The restaurant is beautiful and well appointed, and I look forward to the next time I get to check it out. Thanks for a great time!

Fun environment; inventive menu; excellent execution=delicious food.

By Susan S |

We love this place. I almost always get the Thai chicken salad. My husband's menu choices are more varied but he loves the shrimp Caesar salad and the Pad Thai. They also have great hamburgers. They have huge, comfy booths that feel like sitting in a big old car from the 1950s. they also have a few extra large booths that would accommodate a much bigger group. Staff is good and works as a team.

Great!

By gerausswit |

Six of us had brunch here on a Sunday in February. We all ordered separate dishes and we were all very pleased with our choices. The cocktails were also tasty. Fun atmosphere and good service.

Ricky is an excellent waiter

By Bailey S |

Ricky was an attentive, friendly, and wonderful waiter. The chicken parm was a generous and delicious portion, maybe the best I’ve ever had. The real star of the show was the dessert. The brookie and peanut butter cup are to die for.

A Bartender Can Make Your Trip Worthwhile

By TommyBoy94 |

A good bartender who is amiable, skilled and knowledgeable as the one who presided at the downstairs inside bar on Saturday, goes a long way. Good conversation, excellent pours and full control of the pacing. This time I only stopped for drinks, but I have eaten there before and the food is very good, though portions are the opposite of Lilliputian, so dining family-style is highly recommended.

Interesting options

By BillNH |

Went with Thai options and shared with the table. Best option is to try and share. Liked everything and desserts looked great but did not try them.

Great dinner

By Schmitty86 |

A group of five of us met up here for dinner on a Sunday night over President’s weekend. We had reservations but it wasn’t too crowded at that time. Later it got very busy. The place has a really interesting and funky decor. There’s even a 2 way mirror in the bathrooms and swing chairs upstairs. We ordered several plates and shared them family style. Everything was delicious and food came out quickly. The shoestring fries come out in a HUGE pile. We didn’t get them but they looked good as servers were delivering them to other tables. We also got 3 desserts to share which were also great. We enjoyed our night and would go back again.

Fancy diner?

By yapmd |

Looking for dinner, when we stopped by. At first thought it was a diner, but more like upper class restaurant. Fancy lights and loud music. More for the younger hip crowd. Ordered Pad Thai, Salad and Edamame which were reasonable. Price up scale.

Saw small roaches near kitchen

By NancyQ |

Saw small roaches near kitchen........that was more than enough for me to get out! There was a smell of damp dirty rags . Totally disgusting

Good but rushed.

By Gus324 |

Interesting and eclectic. Friendly host and server. Decor was nice but bathrooms very dark. Food interesting and loved the Korean chicken. The French onion dumplings were just OK. Our food came out less than 5 minutes after the apps which were too hot to eat so basically we got everything at once. Would come back for a lunch perhaps but didn’t like it enough to try dinner.

Too much fusion

By busybee2775 |

A little offbeat from the exterior to the interior. Wasn’t sure if it was a diner or a casual place or a non casual one and still unsure. The fusion is also quite fused, which may not be wise. As it was a company event, we had a private room on the patio and I guess the place is that large with multiple floors. Our bartender was excellent and attentive and that dry martini was perfect, so thank you for that. The dishes were all family style and were a combo of American, Indian and Thai , which was def unusual, considering dessert was very continental fare. I would definitely like to do my own a-la-carte next time .

Amazing food, and huge portions

By 2004nannie1956 |

A very busy, large restaurant, the service was great. The variety of food was excellent and the size of the portions were unbelieveable! My advice would be to share some of the meals available as its impossible to get throught them on your own. I'm not complaining just dont like waste and the four of us were unable to finish our meals as they were so big. If you are hungry this is the place to go.

Lack of concern for diners

By riverpdx |

It's an appealing place with friendly staff, but when we complained about a rancid, bitter aftertaste in the potatoes that came with the Peruvian skirt steak, the waitress just said sorry and left us. No offer of compensation for the inedible item. Not even a comp dessert or drink. We left feeling that the staff was just following a checklist and not really paying attention.

Great food, atmosphere and service.

By rsepsot |

We enjoyed a great meal at this place. We were atracted by its retro looks and large windows that make the interesting interior visible from the street. We had the soup of the day (pea and ham), crispy Brussels sprouts, spinach cobb salad and the cheesesteak egg roll. Every single dish was delicious, but we were a bit dissapointed by the pulled chicken in the salad which had a lot of cartilage. The interior design is an experience, it feels very retro but the furniture is contemporary and comfortable. The big windows make you feel a connection with the street, almost like outdoor dining without experiencing the cold weather. The lights are nicely dimmed but it is still easy to see. The music is upbeat but at a volume that is loud enough for it to be heard and hold a conversation at the same time. Nice! Our waitress, Angela, had a great attitude and took good care of us.

Fun atmosphere

By pat l |

We enjoyed sitting upstairs on a section of couches near a little fire. We shared a cheesesteak eggroll and some appetizers. Everything was just delicious!

Fun space, great location, awesome food

By kaj2600 |

We went for brunch, but i was still able to get a delicious salad -- a huge salad with calamari! I also had a wonderful mimosa (or two). The decor is very fun sort of mid-century modern. The service was friendly. I highly recommend!

Great atmosphere and delicious food

By Maria R |

The atmosphere is so unique and the seating is very comfortable. Our server was very friendly and made excellent recommendations. I did wish they had a few more vegan-friendly offerings on the menu. The chilled sesame noodles were delicious and very flavorful, but it would have been nice to have at least one other option available. Other than that, everything was fantastic! The atmosphere, service and flavors were all excellent!

No reservations- no problem! fantastic, funky dishes

By tiedrose |

Despite not having reservations, we got a table for 4 for brunch on a Saturday. The restaurant was packed but things came out in a decent amount of time. There was a brunch menu which I didn't realize they had, so check the times when you're going to find out what meal they're serving. Fortunately they had cheese steak egg rolls, which are always a hit and delicious. I can't eat gluten and was trying to order off the regular menu when our waitress said there was a gluten free menu- just ask for it! I had the tuna with risotto and a Prosecco punch, my husband had the curry chicken salad in grilled naan- delish! funky drinks, fun menu, awesome decor and seating. one of our fav restaurants in the city!

Mid-Century Fabulous!

By BernadetteF958 |

Continental Mid-Town is a "trip back in time" -- Austin Powers meets Mad Men -- boasting a sleek, stylish and "cool" 60's supper club feel without the cigarette smoke. We were a group of 4, so they seated us in what could be described as the "pit." This gave us the luxury of an amazing 360 degree view of the space. If you looked up, you stared into a breathtaking collection of "sugar coated balls" in various colors. The second floor balcony was furnished with intimate tables for two and each with two hanging wicker "egg chairs" -- so much fun. The menu was varied, fresh and delicious -- offering several less commonly seen (tapas) dishes, including a delicious lobster mac and cheese and Korean pork tacos that had just right amount of "kick." We also enjoyed their zucchini pancakes. There was a great list of classic cocktails, wine and specialty drinks to choose from too. It was a beautiful evening, so we decided to stop up on the roof to have a night cap. It was easy to get a seat and enjoy the City Center view.

My absolute favorite restaurant in Philly

By Tiffany S |

My favorite menu items are BBQ chicken quesadilla and blonde bombshell for dessert. I was so upset when they took the delicious scallops of the menue.

Bachelorette Brunch

By Gilly |

After a bad experience the night before, The Continental Midtown was redemption for Philadelphia on this trip. Don, the server was super organized and efficient and the food was all delicious:) Modern atmosphere.

Poorly Ran

By Mike Cohen |

I came in with a few family members and we decided to sit in the upstairs bar. It was a busy Friday night and there were 2, yes 2, servers/bartenders working the entire space! Manager was just floating around while the staff was drowning. It took us 15 minutes to just place a drink order. We were going to stay for dinner but almost felt bad that the poor bartenders/servers were running around so much with no support that we opted to dine at another establishment. This place is just a mere tourist trap.

Awesome Chinese Chicken Salad

By Traveller |

I had a business lunch here in October 2018. The restaurant has two levels and we sat upstairs. I had a Chinese chicken salad and it was really delicious. The serving was very generous. The service was very good.

Hanging chairs & delicious food

By tawsr |

We shopped Bloomingdales Outlet (Leslie found a sexy Tommy Hilfiger formal) (I’m Tommy), so, time to eat! You know me, party’s the WORD! We went to 3 restaurants before going back to the Continental Midtown. I’m not ashamed to turnaround and walk out, if I don’t feel the VIBE! The Continental Midtown has 3 levels, floor 2 has tables for dos (2), with hanging basket chairs & party people, my type. 3rd floor is the rooftop! I had their “Cheesesteak Eggroll” & L had the “French Onion Dumplings” both we’re unique and both delicious. Service was outstanding. The French Onion soup was five whole little onions/cheese covered, in a dish with 5 little scoop holes. Remember, keep on partying, those taillights are ours TW

It really is all good, if not excellent!

By Clint D |

How often do you eat anywhere and during the first few bites immediately concider that this may be the very best overall meal you have ever had?

Best breakfast in Philly!

By Michele K |

Don't let the outside fool you. Go in. Decor is AMAZING! The chandelier is gorgeous, service is fast & friendly and the food is delicious.

FUN!

By Greenvilledan |

We really enjoyed the fun atmosphere and great food. The Service was great and the food was delicious. We had martinis, Philly egg rolls, and Jerk chicken with red beans and rice. Great food and really cool atmosphere. The upstairs has swinging bamboo chairs hung from the ceiling. The first floor has a sunken area with several tables and tables at street level. We finished with a half and half dessert of chocolate chip cookie and chocolate brownie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. Well worth the trip!

Uncomfortable

By Alicia V |

I get it; it's a cool trendy place. The hanging seats upstairs were very cool for me, a 20-something on a business trip. My mother accompanying me would disagree. The double mirror in the restrooms was very offputting. Food okay, but I believe there are better meals to have in town.

Great vibe

By chloe484 |

We happened during a stroll around the city, the large olive dew our attention. The restaurant is 2 story with 2 bars. Great design, the upstairs has swinging chairs and a kids area. The menu is eclectic with fun cocktails. Service was great and prices reasonable.

Dinner out after happy hour at urban farmer

By Catherine L |

After a quick stop at Hilton garden inn we set out again on foot to the Continental. Another good walk, even at night, we weren't that hungry though so we sat at the bar for dinner. Very eclectic, contemporary furnishings and quite loud. We had chicken lettuce wraps that had a great flavor, veal meatballs, and brussel sprouts, all of which were delicious, despite the fact that they all came out quickly. We we're trying to avoid carbs after the chips at Urban farmer. Bartender was friendly but not well-trained for the type of restaurant it appears to be trying to be.

Convenient, trendy and not too expensive

By Bowlerx_424 |

Met older relatives at this upscale Steven Starr place conveniently located at 18th and Chestnut. Thrilled to get on line reservation which was honored on time..Parking is a bit of a pain...recommend the Boyd's lot just up Chestnut St. Drinks were a bit expensive for the size and was disappointed no draft beer. The meals were very good and somewhat unusual...I believe this used to be a tapas style place but is not anymore. Wide variety of choices most with an Asian flare. While not tapas style portions are on the smaller size so recommend an app and a dinner selection if hungry. Service was very attentive. Rest rooms downstairs making it somewhat difficult for older relatives. Upstair seating also available but again...not for older patrons. Meal for four of us with tip and a few drinks was under $150.00 but we were not big eaters this night....Worth a try!

Solid menu selections but the basket chairs were the highlight

By charmking |

After a long 2 hour line waiting for the One Liberty Observation Deck we needed to sit down and have lunch in an air conditioned restaurant. The Continental Midtown was fun with the hanging basket chairs and retro decor. Pretty good menu for breakfast and lunch. I had the Philly Steak Egg-roll and my wife the Rad-Na. I think I’d prefer my Philly Steak with a roll next time and I thought the onion rings were too salty for my taste. My wife liked her dish which was like a Pad Thai salad. Service was excellent.

Great food in relaxed friendly environment

By Jason T |

After walking past this place and seeing the great food in a modern revised retro styled restaurant, we decided to go to The Continental for dinner. The hostess was welcoming and our waitress was simply lovely, helpful and honest with menu choices. The menu is designed to share which is great as we wanted to try several items. We cheated and had their cheese steak which was sensational, though a twist to the original as it was fried, chimichanga style in a wrap. The brussel sprouts were delicious but the cobb salad was standard. To be fair, our desired salad, kale and beetroot, was unavailable. I highly recommend this place for good quality food that's not overcomplicated, great friendly service and spacious. I would definitely return!

Great Food, Cool Ambience

By jlasch419 |

Found this restaurant based on the many stellar reviews, and I wasn’t disappointed. My lobster macaroni and cheese was divine with many large pieces of delectable lobster throughout the dish. The pasta was more like rice than pasta (I can’t recall the particular name of the pasta noodle), so I would liken it to lobster risotto more than lobster macaroni. The ambience of the restaurant was contemporary hippy chic without being so ridiculously pretentious that you wanted to roll your eyeballs. The two seat tables had cute wicker swings that would be a charming feature for a date. (Maybe not a first date when one may not want to tackle a moving seat.)

Eclectic Menu

By va2cyclists |

Enjoyed the variety of menu options but not the noise. The roasted brussels sprouts were very good. The chicken tikka masala was tasty. The lobster mac and cheese was filling but the pieces of lobster were very small. Our granddaughter enjoyed the Salmon Sashimi Poké Bowl. There is a gluten free menu but you need to ask for it.

A safe bet for a tasty meal

By mitchrappsdaughter |

I have been here twice now and each time was a nice experience. The food is tasty and the drinks are good, but it's a bit difficult to put a finger on how to describe the cuisine and atmosphere. Unfortunately, the service was slow both times I went, but that's my only complaint.

Excellent food, great service and a very cool place!

By CWestcott |

Had a fantastic lunch with a group of awesome new coworkers here. It was a bit loud but we had a very nice time. I recommend their burgers and fries!! My coworkers had salads that were WAY to big! Their appetizers were awesome too!

Great Location for Team Lunch

By djaungst66 |

Enjoyed a team lunch that offered a wide menu selection for varying palettes. Yummy food with great service that was attentive.

Plates made to share (but you don't have to)

By Brian K |

We had another great meal at Continental. We arrived during the transition period between lunch and dinner, when they have a very limited menu available. But we were able to order edamame and wait until 5 to order from the dinner menu. Food is designed to share, but you can keep your choice to yourself, if you choose. In our group, we enjoyed the veal & ricotta meatballs -- it didn't look like much, but it was very flavorful and filling. One diner loved the tuna. Another got a salmon poke bowl and practically licked the bowl clean. I enjoyed the bountiful calamari salad. We also tried three desserts in a flight, which was fun to share at the table. Fun atmosphere. Great service. Good food. Well worth the visit.

Continental Mid-town Let Down party of 12 then 10.

By Tiffany |

I had a party of 12 reservation set for 6:45 and even with arriving 10 minutes early we waited to be seated for 45 minutes. A group that was there prior were done as they had a table full of empty drinks, continued to linger on holding up our groups remaining tables being ready. We spoke with a manager and he told us he couldn't just ask them to move which he could have because there was a lounge available for them to continue their conversation at if they weren't going to order anymore food or drinks. Two in our party had to leave without ordering due to their hour plus commute home. Overall the experience was unacceptable after we made a reservation 3 weeks in advance and showed up all together 10 minutes early. Not what we would expect from an "upscale" place that charges an exorbitant amount of money for food.

Lobster Mac and Cheese is highly recommended

By Wander |

If you're looking for a great meal, look no further than Continental. They have many great items on the menu for you to choose from. The Lobster Mac and Cheese is very tasty and can easily be spread over 2 meals (if you're looking for value).

Awesome Lunch and Staff

By QuackerzDaTraveler |

Ate Lunch here Sunday afternoon. Food was delicious and service was great! They have swings for the tables!

One big surprise!

By WESMTL |

After a deception in a Philly restaurant the night before, we walked in the Continental Midtown by fluck...what a nice surprise! The service was amazing, the food was has good and it was definitely a place to remember! The Brussels Sprouts was incredible, the tuna with mushroom risotto was exquisite and the rest was has amazing! Also ask for a Martini! A nice place to go for a communal dinner. My best place in Philly! PS, even the ambiance is nice!

Great vibe

By Ron J |

Looking for a tasty, kind of healthy, meal in the city? You’ll find it at the Continental. Look for the giant cocktail olive on Chestnut St and you’re there. Food is great, younger crowd, service could be a bit more attentive and a bit less snarky.

Yum!

By 741lindsaym |

Retro Decor, wide variation on the tapas menu. Everything was absolutely delicious. Service was superb.

Great lunch

By Sockster |

We stopped in for lunch/brunch the other day and the place was rocking! The service was super friendly and very very professional. Their curry chicken salad sandwich is excellent as was their Asian chicken salad. The food on the other tables looked amazing as well especially the egg rolls and the onion soup dumplings...next time. All in all, highly recommended and worth a visit if you're in the area.

GREAT, GREAT food, awful service

By Zeussie-4-3 |

Review of Saturday 5:45 reservation on 4/21/18. Pros: - The food was excellent. From Appetizers to entrees. All of it. Cons: - The bartender(s) need to improve. They sent out a very expensive martini in a smaller martini glass only 2/3 full. Unacceptable and should never leave the bar that way. The waiter is also responsible. - The entrees were brought out literally on top of the appetizers. We should not have to remind the waiter to hold the entree until the appetizers are finished. We felt very rushed and annoyed. - Of the 6 entrees, 3 were brought out first, followed by another 2 5 minutes later, and finally the last entree (My delicious Sea Bass), 5 minutes after that. 10 minutes of scattered entrees is incredibly unacceptable. ESPECIALLY on top of the appetizers. Bottom Line: If it was not for the food being so good, I would not visit again. Next time we will be incredibly anal when it comes to the service part. I hate being that annoying customer, but that is better than being the annoyed paying customer who has a bad service experience.

Apps and early dinner with good friends

By JS94 |

My friends and I ate on the rooftop, and had a very leisurely meal which we really appreciated. We shared different plates - the Rad Nu (flat noodles over romaine - so yummy that we got more), Steak lettuce wraps (the steak was so flavorful and tender), curly fries (really really good), and a salad (which I didn't try but my friends enjoyed). Service was excellent - David was very good, very nice - after 2 1/2 hours, he asked if we wouldn't mind moving because there was a reserved party coming in for that table, but we were otherwise welcome to stay - which we thought was SO nice! Would definitely go back!

Very eclectic feel and good food

By John B |

The atmosphere has a cool vibe and service was prompt. The food was great. The only negative was the road reconstruction outside the window. Very noisy and bight flashing lights were distracting.

Girls Trip 2022

By Pamala B |

Our Girls Trip had brunch here on Sunday, October. The food was delicious and the surrounding were hip. Brett was our sever and he was AWESOME!

WE had a great meal here- and wonderful service

By Pepper |

The cocktails were fun- the atmosphere lively. We had about ten appetizers from a crab and maccaroni dish ( ordered twice it was really good) to Kale salad, and just about everything else on the small plate menu- and there was not one clunker.

Good food right price mediocre service

By AmedeoAdvisor |

It is a 3,5 rather then a 3, but u cannot give half star so... not a 4 for sure. Atmosphere, nice and higher profile compared to a normal diner. Food was goo with right size, not too big not too small. We ordered different things (we were 3) and all of us was pleased, also appetizers (hummus, zucchini cakes) were good. Unfortunately we received all the 3 main courses in 3 different moments, one by one with more then 8 mins of delay, so was impossible to eat all together. I suggest it anyway, it might have been bad luck.

Great atmosphere and food!

By B.G |

This café has a nice atmosphere, and is furnished quite well. The menu is quite varied so there are options for everyone, and the portion sizes are quite large. The price isn't too bad for the portions and the flavour of the food either! The staff are also very friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend!

Bloody cheap

By Melissa K |

Great food, atmosphere, and staff, however, I ordered a Bloody Mary and I was almost finished my drink when I realized I forgot I had even ordered an alcoholic beverage because there was hardly any alcohol in it. I almost asked the staff if I accidentally ordered a mocktail. I was better off ordering tomato juice and saving the money. Skimping on alcohol comes off as stingy and cheap, which is embarrassing for a supposed up-scale restaurant. Surprising and disappointing.

Eating in Style

By Arrozglutinoso |

With a decoration of the 70's, perfectly achieved, great music of the 80's and 90's, very young people, very friendly waiters, delicious craft beer Sly Fox Pikeland. We had Thai food, rad na, chicken skewers and seared tuna. Everything in its point. A must-see in Phil.

Must Go

By Eta A |

If you are reading this review because Continental looks interesting, do yourself a favor and go. Multistory seating, we were a group of 10 on the rooftop. Varied menu options, small and large plates. We shared appetizers of edamame, onion soup dumplings, fried corn and Brussels sprouts. All tasty. For entrees as a couple we chose cheese steak eggrolls and lobster Mac n cheese - both delish. Brooke with peanut butter chip ice cream for dessert. Almost forgot to mention the Perfect Pear cocktail, Absolut Pear + saki. So different and refreshing. We will return to this restaurant

Good food - conflicting portion sizes

By jobykins |

My partner and I dined here on a whim judging by how busy the place looked (eat where the locals eat etc) and nice decor. We were seated upstairs and you really get a good view of how beautifully set out the restaurant is. The menu was varied with good options for all types of diners - however the portion sizes differed severely! I ordered spinach ravioli which, even eaten slowly was long gone before my partner had even scratched the surface of his Rad Na! Perhaps some middle ground needs to be met there. We would definitely return if we are ever back in Philly.

Overwhelmed by volume

By Simon J |

Amazing experience - just wish waiter hadn’t taken a bit more time explaining the concept to a naive Brit. Some dishes were massive and some disappointedly small and we could not tell what would be what from the menu. Doggy bags are no good when you are on holiday. Anyway - would still thoroughly recommend it.

Fun place and very different !

By Pascal C |

The location is very good. the décor is very interesting, different! We like it. The food is good but the portion to big. It's better to order few dishes and share. The place is bit too noisy! I'll still go back.

Happy Accident!

By mmille04 |

We ended up eating here when the restaurant we initially planned to go to was closed (water main break). We were seated right away and were greeted promptly by Kate. She was an awesome server and gave great recommendations all night. Cocktails were delicious and so was the food. We’d definitely eat here again!!

Average meal. Not very knowledgeable with regards to allergies.

By D M |

We had brunch here on a Saturday. The restaurant was practically empty when we arrived, so there was no reason for any issues. We had a person with a dairy allergy in our party. Our waiter was not very knowledgeable about what had dairy in it and what did not. He was asked to bring one of two options, which he suggested, that the chef could confirm was dairy free. Later that day, the person with the dairy allergy had a reaction and felt it was something she had there. She had called ahead to see if they could accommodate her allergy and they had confirmed they could. (The allergy was dairy, not lactose, and sometimes it seems that it is assumed that a dairy allergy is a lactose allergy.) The rest of our meals were okay, though the Big Daddy Macs were not hot. The french toast looked good and was devoured! Overall, it was a decent but not great meal.

Fun, eclectic, cozy

By miscalane |

This location is great fun! The menu is an interesting mix of this & that. The decor includes gummy bear shaped chairs, hanging wicker swings & round booths. The staff was attentive & friendly. The prices were reasonable for the quantity & quality. The atmosphere was lively & buzzing with camaraderie. Our party of 8 had the pad Thai (delicious), lobster mac & cheese (loved it), udon noodle soup (the best I've ever had), cheesesteak egg rolls (yum), lettuce wraps (none leftover), shrimp tacos (how did he eat them so quickly?) & a grilled cheese for the picky eater. We couldn't have asked for anything better!

A good dine out

By LoocasARG |

Very good selection of dishes, excellent crab cakes and good drinks. The service was polite and helpful, the area is not the nicest though

Wonderful Options

By Mark W |

Two of us shared two appetizers - pita and hummus, and an oriental chicken salad. We also shared two delightful mains - lobster Mac n’cheese and a sashimi on rice salad. Matthew was our delightful server.

Fuson

By spiritwheels |

This restaurant is a fuson experience. It has two seating areas. First is a typical booth and table area. Second is the back with the ultra modern look. The food real is great. The lobster Mac and cheese is a pleasant dish. The pad Thai was wonderful. The surprise was the onion soup dumpling.

Something for everyone

By Sirenchaser |

Diverse menu, generous portions, interesting people-watching in a busy commercial area. Never had a bad meal here.

fun, loud, retro

By KCKC |

One night we just had drinks under the heaters outside. The food we saw inside inspired us to return. When we did we found the servers to be very friendly. Love the retro diner style decor. Our dinner was all appetizers. We ordered the crispy brussel sprouts, zucchini cakes, chicken satay, chicken wraps. We were two ladies and could not finish it all. Loved all the food! Can’t wait to go back!

Multi generational bash

By greenvegeez |

Party of 8 including 3 generations - everyone had fun on a Sat nite. Diverse menu with vegetarian options. Portion sizes are great for sharing which worked perfectly for our family. Everyone enjoyed the meal. Service was attentive, but not intrusive. Save room for dessert! Fun environment!

Mediocre experience in pretentious restaurant

By Simon Smith |

Food was not fresh and lots of processed food such as the chicken satay skewers. Food was not hot and did not arrive together as promised. Forgot our second round of drinks and generally an inexperienced waiting team were not good enough. Lacks any clear theme both in terms of restaurant design and menu compilation. Overall very average experience and will not return or recommend to anyone.

Thai Chicken Lettuce Wraps!! (And other good stuff)

By Patty V |

Great lights, cool chairs, an upstairs and downstairs bar, and a rooftop area in season! Great ambiance. Really good food. Super reasonably priced. And a fun place to hangout. Reservations suggested- it was packed at 5pm on a Saturday. Couples, a large family birthday party, friend groups, big mixed crowd with a super attentive waitstaff. Highly recommend. (And the Thai chicken Lettuce wraps were awesome!)

Eclectic and great!

By Shirley H |

What ambience! Beyond that though you get great food and service. Isaiah was our server. He was so fantastic my granddaughter wrote him a thank you note. I had matzoh ball soup that was so good. My daughters got the poke bowls and raved about them. Dessert should not be missed either. We suggest the brownie and chocolate chip cookie or the raspberry filled donuts with lemon curd.

Interesting place

By Curly Lox |

I liked it! The food was good, the ambiance was nice, and seating was comfortable and "different". I had the lobster Mac and cheese. Which wasn't your ordinary Mac and cheese. I forgot what it's called but the pasta looked like grains of rice. It was yummy!

Must eat here! Awesome food and vibe!

By Heather S |

Dinners and drinks were amazingly delicious! Our favorites were the Rad Na, lobster Mac and cheese and Shrimp pad Thai. Don’t miss the szechuan shoestring fries! The Bad Apple drink was great too!

Tasty Brunch in Fun Surroundings

By GreenUnicorn |

Our millennial daughter picked the Continental Midtown for our Saturday brunch after visiting the Mutter Museum. We were happy to be seated upstairs. The families with small children were seated downstairs. Our server did an excellent job throughout, and we enjoyed the mid-century modern vibe. We started with a cocktail: a Bloody Mary for my husband and me and a blackberry mimosa for our daughter. Our daughter devoured her poached eggs and polenta. I enjoyed my eggs Benedict with a good-sized portion of smoked salmon and the side of fresh fruit. My husband opted for the Chicken Curry naan-wich. The chicken salad was delicious, and my daughter and I both "helped" him with the delicious shoestring fries he chose as his side. He did feel the bread portion of the sandwich was a bit much in size and thickness. Overall, we thought prices were reasonable, and we had a very successful brunch at the Midtown Continental. We would certainly go back again if we were in the neighborhood.

Great Date night meal

By Glorioso22 |

Location was very local to our hotel write in the centre of Philly . We sat upstairs in the wicker baskets which was lovey. Ambiance was very chilled and trendy. Food was great with so much to choose from including some interesting takes on everyday dishes . Reasonably priced .

Happy Hour Really Happy

By rogersober |

A group of us all met up in the back party room for happy hours this Friday. The shoestring fries were special as was the Thai satay chicken. The service was great and happy our prices more than reasonable. The funky vibe and decor was fun.

By far our favorite spot while in Philly

By Erika R |

Made it in right before the dinner rush and got seated immediately. Our server Henry was awesome, very attentive and thoughtful. Food was amazing. Plates were meant to share but portions were definitely larger than most tapas type places I've been to. Atmosphere was very trendy but inviting. Most definitely will be back.

Second to none

By GooseCowboy |

We come here on Sunday for the Brunch. The food is tasty and the service is outstanding. The location is convenient. I am looking forward to Brunch tomorrow. This place is a gem.

Family Reunion Brunch

By Exploration774629 |

Ten family members met for a mini reunion. The brunch menu had lots of variety that satisfied all 10 of us. Our reservation changed several times, and this restaurant was so accommodating and helpful with this. Kathy, was the woman I spoke to several times on the phone and she was absolutely terrific! Everyone thoroughly enjoyed being there and we will return again next year for our yearly reunion.

Nice atmosphere

By Roberta H |

Nice vibe and interesting decor. Great place for Fusion tapas. Four of us shared several dishes. Must try the French onion soup dumplings We also liked the tuna tartare and the fish tacos.

A fancy feeling in a 50's diner

By Michael B |

Had lunch with my family here, felt attracted by the diner style and wanted to explore the food. Cool design, good for kids, families and business, students, and so on. Service is discreet but very helpful, food is delicious, enjoyed it sooo much:-)

So good!

By Erica H |

It's an interesting place. We were worried because it wasnt busy but we were not disappointed! Service was great. Everything we ordered was great, I got the lobster mac and cheese which was different because they use orzo pasta but it was GREAT! We also got the philly cheese steak eggrolls which I highly recommend! My sister in law got the chicken tikka masala and she loved it. Ask your server for recommendations they wont lie to you!

Looks cheesy but good is superb

By DJTrekkie |

This was a business dinner so the choice was made for us. It was close to both office and hotel. If I had chosen based on outside appearance I would have walked right by. It looks cheesy and almost scary from the outside but don't let looks fool you. It is cheesy and retro on the inside too but the good is delicious! Especially the cheesesteak egg rolls! The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that because we were a larger party we were seated upstairs in a dark and uninteresting area near the bar and not in any of the fun retro parts. Also the food for our large party was served family style but the restaurant did not think to provide us with extra utensils to cut and serve beyond those we had used to eat.

Great Martinie’s and small plates!

By Fallon S |

Grabbed a reservation on Open Table for three. Took a few minutes for someone to initially come get drinks but once we got drinks and food order it all came out super fast. Highly recommend order multiple plates to share. Must order are cheesesteak egg rolls and Brussel sprouts. Astronaut Martinie was amazing as well. Great vibe and great food.

Overrated and overpriced!

By MommyTraveler2 |

Overrated and overpriced! Not worth it! Go elsewhere. Seriously youre going there cuz its a Starr place but come on!

Unexpected Great Dinner!

By KKReed |

Wasn’t sure what to expect since I’ve never been here. The specialty cocktails were different- not the same old rum and coke. We all got something different and shared. My chicken tikka Marsala tasted almost like in India 😛 and the bbq quesadilla was great! I would def come back here!

Excellent

By Rebelbigman |

Old style American diner in the heart of Philadelphia. Excellent food and varied selection of craft beers. Good value for money and excellent service so put on your list to visit

Bad customer service & CREEPY bathrooms!

By Tina T |

Customer Service: The hostess led our work party upstairs - my co-worker clearly had a broken leg with a cast on. Not until I complained, they let her use the service elevator down. Thanks. CREEPY/Voyeuristic Bathrooms: Their bathrooms have a 2-way mirror at the sinks...so people in the hallway can look in. There is no sign either inside or outside the restroom warning customers. Surprised they haven't had any lawsuits yet.

Group Lunch

By Ken |

Very efficient at getting a lunch group of 8 seated, orders taken and plates delivered. Lunch menu had variety of options for everyone (including vegan). Made the reservation one day in advance (not recommended).

Excellent, Tasty Food!

By Hospitalitygirl |

Wish I had more photos of the food, but I visited twice and both times were great! the check was my second visit we had a party of 5! Everything on that check was delicious and flavorful! I’ll go back every visit to Philadelphia.

Good meal and server

By Debra R |

This was my first time at this restaurant. The server was good and knew the menu. Sorry, I forgot his name. His food suggestions were very good, which one was the roasted Brussel spouts. Awesome!!! I do recommend for any one.

Wonderfu

By Randy C |

Great service & food! Highly recommend! Make sure this is a stop you make while In Philly... you wont be disappointed!

Awesome vibe

By Natalie C |

The Continental Mid-town has a very eclectic vibe, with swing chairs and creative lighting. The quality of the food is on point, just note that the portions are on the smaller side (not small just not particularly large). Highly recommend the seared tuna for entree and the deep dish cookie for dessert (great to share)!

Nice place friendly staff

By Nadia |

Had lunch there. Staff was very décor was nice too, the menu a bit mixed. Ordered a taboulé salad which was too salty for my taste but the manager came to me and I got to order something else a noodle salad which was very nice. Service was very good so would recommend

Great place to unwind.

By fossilman2 |

We hade a drink and a meal that were both enjoyable. A resecessed dining area and hanging chair make this place unique and relaxing. The staff were friendly and helpful. Definitely a pace to go.

Dinner and a special event

By Ron J |

I’ve been to the Continental before but this was my first time to the roof top. The food was great, as always. There is a full bar on the roof as well. Waitress was very nice, efficient, and friendly. To make it even a more notable evening a young man proposed to the young lady at the table beside us. A great meal and a proposal under the stars! And she said YES!

Nice but lousy trend

By Coquija |

Nice… happy hour wines are good and cocktails are tasty and bartenders are awesome BUT.... for some reason staff feels compelled (or are told) to limit where you sit during happy hour in one specific space.. despite MANY seats being empty. This is a peeve of mine BIG TIME. A “reserved” area means someone has a reservation and is expected to show up at a specific time.. not that someone MAY sit there at some point. If that’s the case you advise the people there.. “if someone comes for dinner we will/may ask you to move”.. no problem! After we were chased out of this empty seating area I was there another 45 minutes.. no one sat there. (See pics!) It’s asinine but sadly a practice that has become all too common. Too many happy hour options in center city Philadelphia to be limited to sit in a specified space when there is empty outdoor options, especially when you are advertising having a “rooftop” bar. Tired of giving $$ to places that are this trivial. Next!

Loved the ambiance

By John C |

Stepping into the door you know that you are going to be experiencing a unique dining experience. The two floor open restaurant feels retro 70’s but in a cool way. The server was very attentive and explaining the small plates and some of the best choices....lobster Mac and Cheese is a great choice. The only downside is the open space allows the restaurant to get noisy and tables with swinging chairs are bit uncomfortable, but worth a try! I would recommend this to all!

Lobster Mac n Cheese

By Piotr J |

Weve been on a trip with a family in Philadelphia. They visited this restaurant many times in the past and they took us to show it , and especially try Lobster Mac and Cheese. It was very good and delicius experience. The use of Orzo Pasta in the dish make it even more interesting. Worth to visit.

Very good food.

By Arwa Almusaytir |

The service, food, place are very good. I got a brunch meal, dinner and sweet, all of them were great.. the deep dish cookie is great!

Fun Place with Great Food!

By dgilfor |

My Daughter took us here to celebrate my Grandson's 18th birthday and our 51st anniversary. We started with the Grilled Carrots, Crispy Brussels Sprouts and the Crispy Calamari Salad (my favorite and a huge portion). We then had the Spinach Ravioli, Braised Short Rib, Peruvian Skirt Steak and the Jerk Chicken. All were delicious. We had a couple of drinks and 1 desert with 4 spoons. The place was cool and comfortable and the staff were great. We have been to their 2nd. street and Atlantic City locations so we knew the food would be awesome.

Quirky and delicious

By karen l |

Amazing food! We love this place so much we stayed even though the air conditioning was not working. I wasn't able to make my reservation time and called. They were so pleasant and accommodating. They put us on a late arrival list and we were seated right away. Make sure to visit the restrooms in the basement for a good laugh.

Fun!

By wpbkc |

Seven of us came in from out of town for the weekend and we had our first dinner here. Fun! The crafted cocktails are all great, but it is the food that excels. It is all shared tapa type dishes and we had a feast. I can’t remember everything we had but it was all wonderful, especially the dumplings!

A Must Visit in Downtown Philly

By K.King, MPH, CHES® |

Delicious. My mom and I met for lunch. Service is excellent. Food is good. I had always heard about this place but never went until today. If you’re a meat eater, try the cheesesteak egg rolls! I had the salmon sashimi poke bowl, sooooo good. My mom and I will be back for dessert. Our waiter Dani was SO polite and attentive. Will request him every time I visit .

60s decor meets Asian and more...

By Bethberrie |

My family ate here together with another family this past weekend. Casual spot that was easy to accommodate 7 people on short notice. Friendly staff. The Asian chicken salad was delicious! Onion soup dumplings great too! The grilled cheese was thick and juicy and the Rad Na also solid. Only complaint is that we went he Friday after Thanksgiving and wished they also served brunch that day. Recommended.

Great quality fine food for a good price!

By 1973Pierre |

Loving it! Interior way out of the ordinary: reminds me to a Miami style from the 90’s in a certain kind of way. Good menu and friendly service. The jerk chicken is awesome. Good flavours in all dishes. Good selection of local beers.

Tasty meal.

By kayzjoo7 |

Great atmosphere and one of my favourites in Philly. Food is consistently good but in my experience service has been always slow and they need to work on that.

Great food and fun

By elliottq |

Philly has so many fine restaurants and I just found another. Four of us sat in a fabulous booth around the perimeter of the main floor with a great view of the world walking by outside. The menu is eclectic, the wait staff attentive, and the atmosphere engaging. Various of us enjoyed beer, a fine pinot noir, and gimlets. We shared the crispy (roasted) Brussels sprouts appetizer and a marvelous kale and beet salad with grapes and goat cheese. I savored the spinach ravioli, large round pasta sections pressed thin and very delicate and well flavored. One of my friends had the Chilean sea bass and the other two both ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and all were exceedingly pleased. The ice creams and sorbets were a big hit as was the Blond Bombshell, a blondie with malted vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, and butterscotch sauce. A perfect ending to a lovely meal. I would do it again, but there are so many other fine restaurants to try on this short trip. Oh my!

Amazing Food, Drinks and Atmosphere

By crutt13 |

I recently ate here with a bunch of coworkers. The restaurant is quite unique, but overly cool, from the style, to decor and the roof top bar. They offer a great range of beverages and meal items. Wether beer, wine or cocktail I don't think you can go wrong. The group I was with had any variation of the above and the consensus was excellent. The meals were also excellent. We had a family style meal because of the large group size. We started with the hummus and pita, calamari salad, and edamame. All were excellent. We then moved to the crab cakes, Korean wings, and seared tuna. Add on the mashed sweet potatoes, veggies and a few other items. We finished the meal off with a combination of five different desserts. Everything I had, from app to dessert, was excellent and made me want to eat more. The entire experience was excellent and something I will need to do again soon. I highly recommend eating here!

After dinner deserts

By TRAVELHAIR |

Continental is an oldie but still a goodie. Went here with five friends for dessert.. how we weld up here is because the restaurant that we went to for dinner did not have a good menu of desserts. And I remembered the wonderful warm donuts that Continental served and thank goodness they did still have them. We actually get a dessert trio so that we could try a few things . Because actually we were stuffed but just wanted something sweet. And boy did it hit the spot ..We were able to get a table on the roof top and the weather was perfect..Just one tip don’t forget to take your photo ID with you because Although it is a restaurant to go on the roof top you have to have ID

Dirty , and service was slow.

By Passenger717400 |

Definitely not worth the prices they charge here. Place looked overall dirty and food was not the best. But the reason for the one star review is the staff were very arrogant, and service was very slow. For the money you spend it's easy to find a better place to eat in the Rittenhouse Square area.

Still a good option for a group

By GoneTravelin07 |

If not everyone in your party can agree what they want for dinner, Continental Mid-Town just seems to work as everyone can find something they'd like on the menu. It's great for sharing multiple dishes, too. I had not been in a few years, but stopped by the other week and although the cocktails seemed smaller and less potent than I remember, the food was still quite good and portions ample. Even though it was only a Wednesday night, we booked a table online about 30 minutes prior to our arrival and was glad we did - it got crowded fast and as we were leaving I heard the hostess telling people it would be at least a 1 hour wait for a table. We ate dinner on the 2nd floor (where they have the tables for 2 with chairs that swing from the ceiling) and it's a fun atmosphere, but given how warm it was outside, the temps from the rooftop bar seemed to be wafting down to the 2nd floor dining space making it quite warm and stuffy on that level. If it's really hot outside, I highly recommend asking for a table on the ground floor. It can get quite loud on all levels, so if you are looking for something quiet or romantic, this is not that place - but if you want a buzzy, festive type atmosphere, that's what you'd get.

Throughly enjoyable

By NJH-MB |

Stopped in on the way back to the hotel from work. Lived the menu! Most of my favorite “Asian” type dishes were on it. I couldn’t decide. I chose Chicken Tikka Masala. A bit on the mild side but still good. I ordered the udon soup to go, to have for lunch the next day. That was good too. Loved the decor too. Next Time I want to sit in one of the hanging chairs.

Very good lunch spot

By SJEK |

My wife and I had lunch here while running errands in the city. Fun atmosphere, eclectic and unique menu, very good food and attentive, friendly service.

Brownie Cookie was a winner!

By lhamilt77 |

After milling about Center City we stopped into Continental for dinner. We split the ginormous calamari salad which is always delightful. And then I tried the udon bowl, which lacked flavor. But for dessert, the half cookie half brownie came through! Perfectly baked, chewy, warm, and topped with vanilla ice cream. It hit the spot!

Tasty food in a fun atmosphere

By Jonni S |

Super fun and eclectic decor that is intentionally tacky but creates a great atmosphere. Delightful brunch cocktails. Each meal was five star quality. Subtracted a star because Bloody Mary could be better, and there was a piece of eggshell in the salmon hash.

Beautiful place, average food

By Jasmin G |

We were at this place for dinner. The restaurant is really nice with a cool decor. The service is also nice and efficient. The food however were very average, one of our salads was really too salty. The desserts were the best part. We will unfortunately not go back.

Too loud!!

By June G |

I found the food and visual atmosphere engaging. The menu was eclectic enough for our party to have several choices. Once seated the piped in music was so loud that we had difficulty hearing each other speak. When the server was asked about the music volume she indicated that nothing could be done about the volume. Another table of diners were observed to ask about the volume. This might have been an exceptional experience with exception of the loud music.

Awesome Experience

By Mje12518 |

We were visiting Philly for a graduation at Drexel University. Our family group (4 adults & 2 children) went to the Continental for a celebration. First, some menu comments. Unique. I suggest you do a pre- review on-line so (if you are picky) you can insure there is something for your taste. For the children, they were very accommodating to make a more kid-friendly meals available. Our group of four adults were very impressed with the diversity and creativity of the menu. Take your time making your selection. We started with some apps. The ahi tuna tartare, Korean pork tacos and Szechwan shoestrings were each amazing. Dinner entrees included Bulgogi (beef +) bowls, Hollywood (crab +) bowls, Thai chicken and BBQ chicken quesadillas. All were amazingly good. We closed with desserts and coffee. They were as creative and tasty as the other food. Make sure you save room, get a flight to try a variety. Dinner drinks also gave some unique options. In short this was a unique and excellent experience. A special shout out to our energetic server, John, whose friendliness and hustle was as good as all our other experiences. He made sure our dinner was the pleasant experience it was. In closing, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this restaurant.

Birthday lunch

By btravelhappy |

A small group celebrated my aunt’s 65th birthday here. I tend to go to the second street location but I was pleased with the menu differences e.g. seared tuna with risotto is available. Everyone enjoyed the food. 2 pm was a good time to go to avoid the business lunch crowd.

YUMMY BRUNCH can't wait to go back

By mark v |

We were in Philly for a few days before taking a daughter to camp in the Poconos. We were staying at the Sonesta and were tired of "free breakfast" at our hotels which is almost always the same and almost always lousy. So we walked out around the corner and found the Continental on a Saturday morning. It was crowded so we figuref it's gotta be good, right? Well, it was. I ordered the smoked salmon hash with egg on top and was literally licking the plate. Same with the wife's choice. But it mine arrived a little cold and I asked the waiter to please heat it up. Well, the manager came out, apologized and said they were remaking it for me! We can't wait to go back next time we're in Center City!

Blown away

By LaurenMJ97 |

I didn’t know what to expect when we walked in. I felt the retro diner vibe immediately. The food blew us all away! While there is definitely an Asian influence it’s more retro diner food with an Asian twist! French onion soup dumplings (life changing), slow simmered meatballs (with better gravy than my grandmother’s), and fried blueberry pie. Words cannot describe how good the food is. The service is great, our waiter was friendly and attentive despite how busy they were. I just wish the bathroom was on the same floor as the upstairs part of the restaurant. Please come to NYC!

Great Atmosphere, Different Dining Options, Fantastic

By ChrisOBB |

This is the kind of restaurant we like. Not the same old offerings but many different choices. Our waitress was very good, laid back and helped when asked but let us take our time and make this more of a tapas night. We tried a little of everything and can say we loved it all, This place is loud, lots of big groups and partying but all good if you are OK with it. We will definitely be back the next time we visit Philly.

I can't rave enough

By Leah G |

LOVED the decor and atmosphere of this place. The upstairs patio is amazing. The cheese steak eggs rolls, lobster mac, and crab cake tater tot things were all so good. I need to go back to Philly just for this place!

Amazing, simply the best

By KConn |

Amazing dinner from start to finish. Great lobster Mac and cheese, egg roles, as well as the chicken curry. The brookie is a must for dessert! Grab an egg chair if you can, can’t wait to go back!

Business dinner for 8

By Blair P |

Took a group of 8 jaded travelers from a variety of countries here for a superb dinner. There was a wide variety of food on the menu and most of it was set up for sharing. We asked the waitress to order for us and she did a great job, following our request for lots of dishes with " green" and vegetables plus a variety of meat and fish. It was the right amount of food, all with delicious flavors. Great atmosphere and not too loud for conversation. Fusion style food is definitely a good description and it is well worth the visit!

Bland Food

By Clay G |

I came here for dinner with a group of 8. We decided to split up into two groups of 4 in order to seat us sooner. We ended up in booths, but there are very picturesque hanging chairs as well. The food comes out as soon as it’s ready. I really like this concept because it allows you to get it while it’s hot. The food, however, was nothing special. I ordered the Jerk Chicken. I found it extremely bland. It was definitely not worth the cost.

Undisputed World Champion Turkey Club Sandwich

By requinn3 |

I spent most of my time in Philly over the weekend attending a 3 day book publishing seminar from Friday evening until Sunday afternoon, at Hotel Sofitel on 17th and Samson. On Sunday, I went to the Continental for lunch on 18th and Chestnut St. I still felt full from breakfast at the hotel earlier, so I figured I would eat something light. I was alone, so instead of hogging up a table I decided to eat at the small bar. I ordered a Turkey Club with Shoe String Fries and had a Yuengling with it. Now remember, I said I wasn't real hungry when I ordered this sandwich, but I can tell you that in all of my 52 years of eating in restaurants and diners all around the country, this is the best Turkey Club Sandwich I have ever eaten. EVER! The shoe string fries were also cooked perfectly. I would like to come back here at night for dinner sometime. I recommend The Continental to anyone that is hungry and wants a good sandwich.

Great Bar with Funky Decor

We had drinks here with family during a visit to Philadelphia. The staff are friendly and the service is very good. The decor is funky and contemporary with the most amazing leather seats which are like soft car seats. Really great place and well worth a visit.

Continental Divide

It appears from reviews there are 2 camps; love it or hate it. We had been here a few years ago at the suggestion of a friend. It was fine and we had a good experience overall. We were back in town again and asked the same friend for more suggestions. All 6 suggestions were booked 2 weeks in advance, continental was the only place I could find a table on a Saturday night. That should have been my first clue. We arrived an hour early and went to the bar. Despite being told Several times nothing was available before our reserved time, there were numerous tables open for a good hour. Last visit the bar was jam packed, this time it was empty. We finally got seated and our server really wasn’t that good. We had to flag her down several times For service, dirty dishes were always on the table, etc. all of our meals came with the exception of 1. Where after 10 minutes of waiting for the last meal we asked where it was she brushed us off with “it’s coming.” Another 10 Minutes later we cancelled that order and went to cava and brought in food to our table. The quesadillas were inedible. We left those on the table. I think this place decided to rest on its past laurels.

Great place to start your morning!

My boyfriend and I were staying at a hotel that didn't include breakfast so on our first morning there we went out to explore the area. We came across this dinner and what a surprise! It has 24hr breakfasts (YAS!) And offers all the delish options you want for a good price. We had pancakes with scrambled eggs, ham and cheese omelette with toasts plus 2 coffees and it all came to $19!! That breakfast fueled up our energies for the whole day. Staff is friendly and food good, can't ask for more. They're even open during all holidays.

Not too bad of a place

We went for drinks on a Sunday afternoon. We had searched for rooftop since it was a beautiful day. There is not really any good view from this place. other than the blue sky and walls. it does have an open roof. Drinks were good although on pricier side. No vantage point to really see anything. Probably would not go again. It is not a bad place just not a better than average place.

Great for Brunch, Loved the Retro, Quirky Feel

By davidhQ9728BH |

I went for brunch on a cold Saturday early afternoon. When I entered the restaurant, I felt that I was walking into what would be considered an elegant dining room in the mid-20th century. Fun, retro, and quirky. The service was attentive without being overbearing. My water glass was never empty and my plates were cleared immediately. There was a wide variety of brunch/lunch options and signature cocktails. I had a kale and mushroom omelette, potatoes, toast, and fresh fruit. All fresh and tasty. Even though the restaurant was busy, the wait time for food was reasonable. I would recommend this restaurant. From what I observed, it seemed like a great place to hang out with friends, enjoy a good meal, and socialize.

Thirsty

Got seated at 745 pm - no acknowledgement from anyone for ten minutes - maybe because it was just myself and a ten year old kid????? Went round the corner and spent our $200 elsewhere. Shame because we stopped here before a few years previous on a trip to Philly and it was great.

Great rooftop lounge

Took a group here for Sunday brunch following church. Sat in the rooftop lounge around a fireplace. Staff was very attentive. Tables were a bit small for all of the entrees we had, but we made it work. Will definitely return!

Really cool spot in Mid-Town Philly

Very cool restaurant located closet to Rittenhouse Square. We went there for Sunday brunch and ate in the enclosed upstairs patio area. We had the monkey bread, the pastrami fried rice and the bagel with lox. Everything was excellent and our server was wonderful. I think her name was Sally or Sailor.

Delicious creative food and outstanding service

Dinner at the Continental Midtown 18th and Chestnut. Outside it looks like a 60s diner. We were pleasantly surprised by a cool interior, outstanding service, and delicious, creative food. Light spinach ravioli for me, udon soup with chicken dumplings and a crispy calamari salad for Llewellyn. Beautiful chandelier, hanging chairs for the hipsters.

Eye-catching décor, eclectic Asian menu

By Phillip T |

Exuberant mid-century (googie?) décor: exterior hexagonal red tiles and giant cocktail olive; the hexagons continue inside; a central circular seating pit, with a constellation of glass-globe lighting fixtures; an overhanging second level with rattan egg-seats. Restrooms are in the basement (via stairs and elevator). The dinner menu is eclectic -- tempura, Szechuan fries, Thai chicken salad, farro risotto, burgers; the waitress admitted that the Korean fried chicken with kimchi was toned-down. I enjoyed the chicken tikka masala (served in a pair of metal bowls on an ovoid trencher), apple walnut bread pudding and a touriga nacional rosé from the limited wine list. Downside: Recorded music was loud, too loud for easy conversation, definitely not relaxing. Located at the northwest corner of Chestnut St and 18th St, between City Hall and Rittenhouse Square.
