The Counter has been such a welcome addition to the Miracle Mile area, located right next to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) and the La Brea Tar Pits as well as a beautiful park. Great burgers served anyway you like them-- you customize your burger using a little pencil and an order form, which is actually lots of fun. Nice servers with a very friendly attitude, very good drinks and the music completes an upbeat, fun package for lunch or dinner. Highly recommended.

Our group was a mix of meat eaters, vegetarians, and vegans. The Counter accommodated all of us. The burgers & fries were all good. The sweet potato fries were especially good. The food was a little slow to arrive, when they didn’t appear to be too busy. And the server didn’t refill our drinks until we had finished eating (and had empty glasses). But, overall, it was a good experience.

Impossible Burger was great, fast and friendly service. Nice choice of burgers (organic). Impossible Burger (meatless) was great.

Good food, quick service, parking validation/save $8! Suggest splitting your burger with someone. the smallest burger (1/3#?) is huge and very good.A very busy place on a Sunday, which is always a good sign of a quality restaurant.

The Counter has several locations and we visited only this one. If you like good quality hamburgers and you want your meal to have as many options as possible (more than you can imagine), this is the perfect place for you. In addition, they offer various sizes, so you can accommodate the size of an appetite that you have on the day of your visit. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. The music could be played at a lower level. Order a milk shake with your meal. Mine was wonderful.

The counter is a spot that is frequented by locals and usually very very packed with families and friends, business people, everyone. On Wilshire, just off La Brea on the LACMA side, it has garage door front that opens up and a counter along it so you can sit facing the pedestrian traffic and watch the world go by. Their specialty is custom built burgers but they also have a good assortment of beer and wine at reasonable prices. It's a great spot for just an afternoon stop to sip and eat. Definitely pop in.

This is a great place for lunch. We were with a large group (6) with mixed adults and children (ages 10 and 13). We all got some form of burger. Everyone ordered from the "make it yourself" menu. If you haven't been there, I would equate it to ordering sushi where you get a checklist. Only instead of selecting your sushi, you select your bun type, meat type and size, cheese, topics, and sides. I got the Bison Burger on Wheat with Tomato, Pickles, blue cheese, grilled onions, and grilled mushrooms (extra cost), and got salad on the side. You can get 3 sauces which I used one for salad dressing. By vote, the favorite sauce was the Wine mustard. They do also have vegetarian and turkey burger options. Our server was very friendly, and responsive. Food came out quickly, and drinks were refilled without having to ask.

The make-your-own concept taken to another level. Beef and chicken options as well as buns or salads. Big portions.

Beer selection is great. Hamburgers are to die for and of course the parmesan fries are way too good!!! Recommend it for business or family time (my kids love the place and we fight for the parmesan fries!)

Had lunch here today while waiting for the 3D show at the page museum. You just need to cross the parking lot from the Tar Pit and you are there. The cool thing about this place of course the ability to choose the type of bun, meat, and tens of toppings that include many different cheeses too. But also, the menu listed different burgers. Had the regular beef burger with Chipotle sauce, roasted peppers, roasted tomatoes, lettuce, and grilled red onions. It was fantastic. My wife had a menu listed Korean BBQ burger that she finished alone without asking for my help. Big place with outdoor seating and friendly staff. We were seated within five minutes. A lot of families with kids since it's right next to the LACMA. If never been here, it is not your typical Burger place and definitely worth trying.

Certainly not a fancy place but we were seated quickly. Service was ok considering the place was quite busy. I ordered a strawberry shake which was not very strawberry-tasting but it was nice enough. We had a variety of foods - tuna, veggie and hamburgers, BLTs - the substitutions were accurate and the food was hot and tasty.

We had just flown in the day before from the east coast, so while others were searching art and history at the Academy awards museum, my son and I were searching for grub...and boy did we find it. It was quiet maybe 5 tables in use, we had the fries apptz, and he had the chick sliders and I had the angus sliders...man we couldn't decide whose tasted better...He had choc shake, I swilled good old coke products, and out out the door for just over 30$. It hit the spot and i understand there are numerous locations around LA, so you can count on the counter.

Eating a burger in Us is very easy, probably you can find a choice every mile. The counter is positioned on hi end. You can take a seat and fully customize your burger, down side the price is comparable with normal restaurants.

Recommend by the people we rented the apartment from, great burgers really juicy and tasty my wife and I both had the Blue cheese burger (I pimped mine to organic bison) great value for money. Kids cleared their plates and wanted more. Good beer selection, I could have stayed and worked through the whole list. Well be back again.

Good burger although it needed a little more sauce (which I added). Salad could have been washed better (a little gritty) but was very tasty. Burger patty was tasty and cooked correctly.

We had a nice lunch after seeing the La Brea Tar Pits. Great service. The waiter was efficient and friendly. He came back to check on us several times. Great for families. They sent out the kids meals early. The Bison Burgers, Veggie burgers and shoestring fries were fabulous. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Restrooms were clean.

Popular with families with children, almost too much so. Kids are even seated in the bar area. How good you find the burgers is entirely up to how you customize yours. The fries are quite good; the onion straws are pointless.

Great place to stop and eat after visiting the La Brea Tar pits which are across the street. The food was great! The shakes were creamy, thick and made with MILK! The fries were freshly made and were not over oiled or salted. They had an extensive beverage menu both alcoholic (great beer selection) and otherwise. The burger bowls are awesome, highly recommend the BBQ or Bison versions. The staff was super friendly and low key. There are plenty of TVs to see the game or what ever. The space is very open and quite plain, so while it has a cafeteria feel, it has bistro quality food. If anything the biggest challenge is narrowing your selection.

This is a casual place for a really good burger -- mostly because of all the great toppings they offer, inc. some unusual ones like onion confit.

The Counter burger is located very conveniently next to the brea tar pits. We came here right after our walk with our dogs. The burgers itself were decent. A bit on the pricey side, but at least the flavors were decent. The portions are pretty big which was a plus for me. However, we were extremely disappointed with the staff. We asked to be sat outside with our dogs which they approved. However, I had to go back inside twice to ask for someone to take our order. During the entire meal, no one came outside to refill our waters or ask if we needed anything extra. And at the end of our meal, I had to ask twice again for our bill. I'd probably come back here next time if there are seating inside. But the staff has to be more caring than what I saw the first time for me to be impressed.

They have a happy hour from 5 - 7 during the week. This location is large and the staff is very friendly.

i will be brief: average food, bland food, bland burger, poor service, slow service and you pay for all this ...i rest my case. Not cool dude, not cool!

Walked over to The Counter burger shop after a visit to the La Brea Tar Pits. What a fun place to have lunch. Not a cheap lunch by any means (would have given it 5 dots if it wasn't so costly) so dont expect prices similar to Whataburger, but the burgers are very good and there are scores of beers to choose from, all while sitting outside on their deck in the cool breeze watching the Wilshire Blvd traffic/pedestrians go by-something that was interesting in itself! The food is good and fun to order-you'll see- and you can't beat the location/vibe of the place.

This place is huge and has both indoor and outdoor sitting. The service is also good, but slow sometimes. The burgers at this place are great.

Burgers around Los Angeles are a dime a dozen...stop here at the counter and your burger turns into a dozens of choices. I found this burger joint when it was National Burger month and thought it would be cool to try. I wound up taking my burger loving friend back here because I THOUGHT it was the greatest Los Angeles burger I've had so I figured I take the "unofficial official bugerologist" Well the burgerologist gave it 2 thumbs up with 2 finger licks. I've been to another location however, this location is my favorite. Both locations have great service but this one has a little extra special touch of ambiance and service. M

A good place to sit either in side or out and watch the world go past. Opposite La Brae Tar Pits. Open late. There is not a lot to chose from in the area. All the burger came with calorie values next to the price. I started with a good margarita over ice. My husband had the bison burger which was tasty and sweet potato fries. (There was a gluten bun option). I chose the veggie burger which was disappointing, just mush in a bun.

I love this place I tried it in New York and it was amazing. But this one is even better coz the seating area is more and they have an open air area

Very well located to Tar Pits, LACMA, and Petersen Museum. Food was good, not exceptionally fast but good. Beer was fresh. Enjoyable for my husband and me.

Nice place for burgers. We appreciated the customizations possible and the gluten free buns. Service is ok, but restaurant is a bit noisy.

My wife and I had built your own burgers with a side of chili and a side of onion strings. We both had water to drink. The food was really good and portions plentiful. We sat outside and it was really nice since there was little traffic. They provide parking behind the building fo 90 minutes which is great since it is difficult to park on the street here. The service was a little weak but not bad. The price for our meal was $27.75 before tip. We would definately return and recommend The Counter for a build your own burger. One problem which we both encountered and reported to the staff; The bathrooms were nasty and badly in need of cleaning. Manaagement should have a staff member who is not dealing with food in anyway - attending to them on a regular basis. Yuck!

Yum, Yum this was the best burger i have tasted in a very long time. When seated at the table you are given a clipboard to start and build your own burger, you will not be disappointed at the choice on the menu. The meat was cooked to your own liking and very delicious it was, my only advise is go hungry as the portions are very big, we ordered fries as side orders to share with family and we wasted quite a lot. The staff were extremely friendly and the place was spotless and clean, the food was prepared all fresh and arrived quicker than what the server mentioned. We would certainly go back if we visit the states again.

We walked in on a Friday afternoon and were seated promptly. You can design your burger to suit your taste and was recommended by the staff at La Brea Tar Pits. There are numerous toppings and sauces to choose from. I had the Habenero salsa and pepper jack cheese. The only setback is it wasn't spicy enough for me. The kids had the mini burgers and loved them. After 3 is happy hour with half price appetizers. The beer we had was the Dog Fish 90 minute IPA. The service was outstanding and even my wife who doesn't usually eat hamburgers raved about how good they were. A definite stop again if we are in the area. It was pricy for burgers (about $90 for 4 with 2 20oz beers) but worth it.

Had lunch here after the tar pit. The menu is good for a burger joint, it is also very clean too. The music though is a little too loud for my liking though. It was good music just loud enough to prevent conversation at the table. The waiter forgot the drink order and had to be reminded twice. Burgers are good and very filling.

The counter is a great spot for a casual lunch or group gathering. Once one of my favorites now just a mediocre spot. They have a great burger selection and the option of build your own custom burger which is pretty nifty. However, the quality have gone down over the years and what was once one of my favorites is now not too impressive.

I returned for a business lunch after not having visited in few months. I was pleasantly surprised by minor changes to the menu. While the pretzel bun was missing, there are many new choices taking its place. Standard toppings are now unlimited rather than being constrained to a specified number. It was fun assembling the burger precisely the way that I wanted it without constraints. Asu usual, service was prompt. The food was fresh and prepared well. We very much enjoyed eating outside in the shade.

My husband and I ate here while visiting friends in LA and we loved that we could build our own burger. This was seriously one of the best burgers I've had in a restaurant; I had grilled onions, provolone and bacon on mine and it was excellent! A bonus was that it was across the street from the La Brea Tar Pits, which we've never seen before, so after lunch we headed over there to check them out!

I had a gift card to the Counter and decided to try it out. I was very disappointed. Yes, you can basically create your own signature burger with the many ingredients they have to offer, but it wasn't worth the time or money. From now on, I'll prepare my gourmet burgers at home. There are too many other burger spots to make a special trip to this place unless you plan on taking advantage of the Happy Hour specials.

My wife and I visited the restaurant on the first night of a holiday in LA, it was fairly quiet, the staff were friendly and helpful. As many of the reviews say the range of toppings available are incredible, there was a list of 30 or so which are free with your standard burger and a further array to pay for. We chose our food and were served quickly and attended upon for refills of our drinks frequently. For the mid range price it was a really enjoyable meal and just what we needed that evening. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Custom hamburgers with lots of chioices of toppings on your order checklist. Two hamburgers, three sodas and an order of onion strings that were more like shreads cost us more than $45. The hamburgers were good the drinks were as expected, but the onion strings were awful.

I met a friend for dinner and enjoyed the restaurant. We sat outside and each built our own burger. The food and beer selections was good and service was average at best.

Arrived on a weekday before noon, no waiting. Ordered a Counter Burger with veggie skewers, a BLT with Avocado, and a Peanut Butter and Jelly kids meal for my son. The burger has excellent presentation. I ordered a medium-burger, but it was still very pink inside. If you have concerns about undercooked meat, better order well done. I enjoyed the flavor of the burger, especially the thin crispy onion strips on top of the meat. There is validated parking. However, if you're visiting the Tar Pits, it is conveniently across the street, so you don't have to move your car. I would go back, but maybe not at lunch time, it was expensive for a lunch meal.

Our favorite place to get a great burger in L.A. Great location and atmosphere and pet friendly too!

Created my own burger and has the onion straws. My burger was cooked correctly and the service was great. Nice place for a great burger.

It was a fortunate glance from a Metro window which first alerted me to the presence of The Counter on Miracle Mile (in itself a miraculous thing, posing as the welcome oasis from a heatwave-stricken day). Having previously enjoyed the novelty of a make-your-own burger in the New York City location, we made a beeline straight for the restaurant, excited to try our hand at dish design and sampling once again. We were not disappointed! We had missed happy hour by a minute, but our waiter very kindly pushed our drinks order through anyway, giving us $2 off beers for our first round. The novelty of a tick-box menu system had not worn off, and I was excited to see how The Counter could cater for my fairly recent shift to a vegan diet. The menu offers some pre-prepared burger options, but the build-your-own possibilities loom large in the imagination of a true foodie, so I took inspiration from the vegetarian option on the menu: I coupled a vegan veggie burger (moist on the inside, crispy on the outside, delicious through and through) with alfalfa sprouts, grilled red onions, crispy spring onions, guacamole, tomatoes, relish, quinoa, spinach, and organic greens. It may sound obscene but it was absolutely delicious, and I didn't miss the taste of meat / cheese for a single second, either! I had a side order of sweet potato fries, so I was stuffed - and I had a refillable strawberry lemonade that was perfectly refreshing on such a hot day. Service was quick and friendly, and my boyfriend and I left feeling satisfied and excited to happen upon another chain in the future - come to England soon!

This high class burger joint has ALL the fixings to specialize your burger any way you desire! There are different meats, sauces, toppings, and sides! I enjoyed a beef burger on a whole grain bun with veggie cheddar cheese organic greens, tomato, fried red onions, artichokes, olives and three different sauces. We all shared two appetizers for four which was more than enough! Friendly service and free refills on the beverages! As a bonus there’s free validated parking in the back! Enjoy!

My boyfriend and I tried The Counter after visiting the Page Museum. We went on Super Bowl Sunday and the place was a ghost town. I liked all of the choices, even though I stuck to a relatively simple cheese burger. We shared the 50/50 fries with regular and sweet potato. My burger was fantastic, especially dripping with sautéed onions. I would definitely come back here for burgers. The service was attentive and friendly. The price was under twenty-five, which I think was decent for the type of restaurant and certainly for the quality of the food. We left stuffed and very happy. Please check out my blog for more reviews and musings.

This Counter restaurant has gone seriously downhill. Came here tonight for a post-museum dinner and couldn't believe how bad it was (our group comes here every few months and the food is generally good to very good). The tea drinkers ordered hot tea--it was a cold rainy night and were told that the "hot water maker" didn't work. Hello!--not "we're sorry, there will be a brief delay while we heat up the water for your tea" but "sorry, no hot drinks tonight." Things went downhill from there. I explained to the waiter that I wanted my burger rare but not raw. He showed no interest in helping me figure that out. My burger arrived well done and stone cold. The grilled tomatoes and onions on top of the burger were also cold, along with the fries. Most of the other dinners were cold as well. Another person's burger was overdone and one order of fish was cooked until it was dry and was accompanied by extremely tough kale (clearly not massaged). A veggie burger came to the table mushy when it had been ordered extremely well done. No one felt like waiting for the meals to be redone so we toughed it out and complained to the waiter and the manager. The offending meals were deducted from the check, which was great. But do we go back? Does anyone know a good place in the museum area? We will probably give it one more try. In the meantime you might want to stay away. What makes a good place bite the dust anyway?

Went here with my son and we had an amazing meal. Great the way you choose you own burger and write it down on the tick sheet. I had the most amazing milkshake. We made a mistake on the desserts, but were given a discount, despite it being our mistake. Overall a definite recommend!

We stopped here because it was the closest place to the La Brea Tar Pits and we weren't disappointed. Everything was very good and the numerous choices to make your own burger were fun. It was definitely on the pricey side for a burger but we definitely enjoyed our meal.

We had lunch at The Counter after spending the morning at the La Brea Tar Pits. We did not have a reservation (not sure if they take them), but were seated after about a 10 or 15 minute wait. You can either build your own burger or choose from one of the ones they offer on the menu. The burger was very good, with the right balance of stuff and meat. They also have a kids menu (smaller portions) and a very good list of draft beers, with many local choices.

Great burgers! Such a great experience! The workers were extremely friendly and the shakes are delicious! Had a great time with my friends! Definitely would recommend this location for burgers and fries! (The sweet potato fries are worth the price and are a huge portion)

We love going to the Counter, and this one has a great location on the miracle mile, close to the La Brea tar pits, and museums..we've taken out of town friends several times, it makes for a great afternoon, and the food is excellent!

We went with my two school aged sons after visiting the La Brea Tar Pits, it was mid afternoon & on a Tuesday. Not busy at all & our food come out fast. Tasted great! We sat outside near the road. It was great people watching. Highly recommend.

The Counter is a great place to stop for your customised burger! You can literally chose everything you want from a wide selection - so whether you end up enjoying your burger or not is really up to you! You chose your meat, cheese, sauce, salads and bun! My first trip was probably the best burger I have had in the states, but the second was not so good - that's what happens when you change a winning formula! The fries are way too skinny for me, I prefer a chunky potato, but it is good they do 50/50 of fries and sweet potatoes catering for different people's needs. We also tried an ice cream sandwich (we took it to go, the burgers and fries are way to big to warrant dessert in the store!) This was delicious - macadamia nut cookies with vanilla ice cream - yum. The place itself if pretty rowdy and there are a lot of kids here, so it is a kinda hop in hop out spot.

This is our second trip to The Counter. The system takes just a bit of coaching but it works. The use of the "forms" for ordering is second nature after the first visit. The food is fresh and well prepared. Staff is nice...busy but helpful. Portions are big! All in all, we shall return for yet another visit.

Needed a place near the La Brea tar pits for family lunch. Counter did the trick. Outdoor dining with a plethora of burgers and more. A bit pricy, but such is LA. Do it.

Great burgers and steak sandwich, and beer!! Build your own and excellent fixins. Cooked to perfection... Medium rare is perfectly pink the whole way thru....

We ate here after our visit to the museum. They validate parking for the lot behind them, and during the week you get a great validation deal. The food is very good, as is the service. We tried the mini burgers, the fries, and the fried pickles. Everything was very good, and the pickles were excellent.

If you are looking to eat one of the best burgers of your life go to The Counter. There are countless options for your burger, including healthy options. The staff is very friendly. You have the choice to eat indoors or outdoors, but I would suggest outdoors. You can choose from their pre-made section or you can build your own (I would suggest doing this). Our food came very fast, and we could not beat the price. Everything was amazing quality and it will leave you full and in love with their food! Another plus is that it is within walking distance of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Petersen Automotive Museum.

The variety of the build your own burger was what set this place apart. The burger themselves were cooked to order and they were juicy and flavorful. The atmosphere was casual and the staff was really friendly. I would definitely go here again.

We loved the food here. The service was quick and staff were very friendly. Loved the lemonade and the beer selection was pretty good too!

Sat at the counter and ordered a 'build your own burger.' The beer selection is impressive. The fries are excellent and the burger is the star. Highly recommended!

The food here is great. You can customize your burgers from the bun to the protein to all of your toppings. Great concept, you get exactly what you want. We also had the veggie skewers and loaded tater tots. Both were spot on. Never thought I'd think much of tater tots but they were the bomb. The place was very clean and upbeat, great atmosphere. Staff was friendly and fast.

We came on a Sunday Night around 7 and it wasnt too busy,we were greeted and seated within 5 minutes. That wasn't the bad service part... It took about 10 minutes for our server to come take our drink order and another 10 to take our food order. There is a wait time for the burgers so I expected that...but our server didn't check back with us until about 10 minutes after someone else brought our food. We needed refills and were only checked on once more towards the end of the meal which was ok since we didn't need anything else at that point. We were done with our meal and had to wait about 20 minutes for our check. Our server walked past us a few times so fast and not close enough to get his attention, but finally walked past us and was like, "Do you want your check? " I was like....."YES". Seriously?? And the burgers were pretty overpriced and they don't come with fries..2 burgers...1 basket of fries...and a kids meal was 45.00. Not worth it.

So, so good! You can order off the menu or use a form to build your own burger. It lists every/any possibility you can imagine (and some that made me wonder who would put such things on a burger) I did a build your own burger (cheddar/bacon/garlic aioli) with Parmesan fries. Medium rare and that's exactly how it was done. Service was prompt and courteous. Would definitely recommend this place.

The design your own burger option is a great concept and that was good. The venue was certainly not busy on the day we visited for lunch however service was very average. Parts of our order never arrived, the staff all seem miserable and are the furthest thing from attentive or detail orientated.

We first have to mention the host who was unbelievable - he multi tasked cleaning tables to move diners through It was impressive to watch him. The burgers are made to order with enormous amount of choices from toppings to sides to sauces. All cooked to perfection

Could be so much better but the service is horrible ! Took forever to get drinks and order and when we did the waiter forgot everything. Was confused about the simple order that you have to write down yourself with a checklist ! How can you be confused by that ? Things came out before others and fries were so cold ! Burgers were very good but the rest bad. The 1/3 pound burger is enough for most . It’s right next to the exit for La Brea tar pits

A fantastic place to order a burger to your personal liking. You can pretty much tweak everything - burger, cheese, topping, sauce and bun. They even have gluten free buns. Their fries w / different variations are top drawer, too. Apparently all the other items on the menu are very good also.

Great environment, great burgers and location. Open space and spacious eating area.

Here's the thing: The Counter makes good food, but it comes at a price. To me, it costs more than I'm willing to pay for a burger, even if it is a bit gourmet. Also, you have to order fries if you want fries. They aren't included with your burger.

Here is the thing, L.A. is a burger town. There are tons of unique burger places in this town. Everybody has their opinion on which is the best one. The only thing that will receive more debate is where the best deli is. Don't even go there. The counter has good burgers and a fun vibe. What makes this location special is that its right next to the tar pits. The secret is get your order to go and take it to the meadow in the park behind the tar pits. Its far enough away that you cant smell the tar and its a oasis in a crowded city. Sit in the grass and chow down and then go inside the museum and try and pull those metal stick outta those vats of tar. Thats a good time. Best burgers, no. Best burger next to the tar pits, hella.

We went here for a late lunch after visiting the Tar Pits as there isn't much choice of eating places in that area. My husband built his burger from the list of various ingredients and I chose the simple burger from the menu. The sweet potato fries were tasty and had a nice dip with them. The burgers were cooked as requested. Service was efficient and the place was clean. Our first time at a Counter restaurant but we would go again for simple food.

We had an extremely negative experience at this restaurant. We ordered a Counter Burger medium well done. After waiting 30 minutes for our food, our hamburger arrived under cooked - somewhere between rare and medium rare. We asked the waitress to send the burger back to the kitchen to cook the meat to medium well. The waitress returned minutes later and said that they were too busy to finish cooking the burger and said they would remove the cost of the burger from the check. The waitress was essentially punishing us by denying us lunch. What an attitude!! After waiting 35 minutes for our food we left without eating. I do not recommend this restaurant.

This was the first place we saw after walking round the tar pits, glad we didn't go any further. The build your own burger idea is cool and we got great service from Matt and everyone else. We had veggie burgers and 50/50 fries, it was all good food. Had brownies and ice-cream and a key lime pie, the brownie was big enough to share, which we should have done as we left most of the pie. Sat outside in the evening sun, nice, quiet atmosphere. Thoroughly recommended.

We recently visited the Page Museum at the La Brea Tar Pits and needed to grab a bite to eat with a pretty large group of adults and kids of all ages. We walked next door to the Counter and had a very delicious meal and some very yummy adult milkshakes to make the rest of the day a little more relaxing! The bison burger was great. I liked that they have very roomy booths and the wait staff was very attentive. It was a little pricey, however.

Customizable meals... Burgers or salads etc. I am not much of a burger person and convinced myself that I could pick whatever I liked from the menu. It opened my eyes to a new light, but fall for their Minis instead. The mini burgers was just perfect for me. Our daughter was allergic to gluten and she never thought that she could order the food/ burger without a bun. She ended up ordering a beef patty on top of greens and fixings. My hubby enjoyed his burger so much and he thought it was unbelievably good. You can't go wrong with The Counter where the food and service is concerned!

Terrible service. Literally from the moment we walked in. Instead of seating us (party of 2), the hostess mumbled something about working on another table, then stood in front of us shuffling menus for 5 minutes, then walked away. Then, when she came back we said, "Can we have that open booth?" She mumbled about saving those booths for larger parties. We then noticed that ALL the booths had COUPLES in them. And it was clear that what she was really saying was, "don't eat here - our service is terrible.

The Page Museum has a beautiful spot to bring a picnic, but an alternate plan is to eat at The Counter. The food is freshly made to order and you can custom build a burger or salad. Many choices for little ones as well.

The menu is broken into five parts - bread, meat, topping, dressing, and side. The customer makes a selection from each part to "build" their meal and the food is prepared to order. They also have a full bar and quite a selection of beers. The waiters were super friendly and energetic. This was a very enjoyable stop.

Wish I didn't have to drive to the airport as this place had a great selection of brews on tap. The burgers took about ten minutes to figure out the menu as there is about 1000 different ways to have your burger. Large screen TV's were above the bar and we enjoy the games. Staff seems attentive but overlooked our fry order and when we pointed this out they brought us some cold frys out but we were already done and full from the huge burger. Parking around back and the Tar Pits across the street.

This place is across the street from the LaBrea Tar Pits in west L.A. the food was amazing. The burger was so juicy and delicious. I was worried walking in due to it being next to a tourist trap but DAMN! I suggest this place 10,000%

If you are visiting the tar pits, LACMA or the car museum this is a great stop for lunch. We were there on a beautiful day and the outdoor seating was perfect. The build your own burgers ensured everyone enjoyed their meal. The staff was friendly and service was good. I'd highly recommend if you are in the area.

Never been here, the kids took me while I was in town. What a great burger. Had the bbq burger and I like the fact that the bbq sauce came in a small bowl so that I could decide how much I wanted on it instead of them drowning it like so many restaurants do. And that was a big, tasty burger. Good fries, I like the fact that they serve a big dish of them for the table. Nice beer list, too. Great place for kids. It's a little pricy but you get a lot for the money.

This is only my second visit to The Counter, but I have to say their food is always delicious. This location was nice & quiet (Sunday night). Service was great, food was delicious, and great company. I got their custom sandwich, but love that you can custom make/ "create" your own burger. They do advertise the Create (servers shirts promote the word). Delicious, friendly, and excellent service.

We visited The Counter for lunch on a weekday and were seated promptly. Seeing an entire table of LAPD officers gave us what turned out to be a misleading assumption that this would be a great restaurant. We waited well over 10 minutes to have a waiter even greet us and take our drink order. She was very friendly, but somehow mixed up the burger requests so that one came out overdone and one was raw and had to be sent back. The bison burger is pricey, but had a very good taste. The sweet potato fries were good; shakes were just average. The restaurant is located between the SAG/AFTRA building and the La Brea Tar Pits so business should be good, but they need to improve the food and the service.

Nice location has indoor and outdoor sitting. You can pick anything offered to build your own burger like bread, meat, topping, etc. pretty good food. Slow though if you are in a rush. A Berger cost $18-20

This place is great. It is located right next to the la Brea tar pits. Service was quick and burgers were large. We were all happy with our meals

You can create your own burger from picking from different meats to many different toppings and then a large assortment of sauces. They are a good burger but for the price ($20+) I would have rather went somewhere else.

Stopped in on a Tuesday for lunch with my wife because I wanted to try their burgers. They weren’t very crowded and the staff was quick and attentive. I tried the bison is Gouda burger which was very tasty but be prepared for a mess. My wife just tried the Parmesan fries Which were OK but nothing special. A little pricey for burger and fries, but this is LA.
Make your OWN Burger.
Sat outside - Sun out A 'make your own burger bar' - great quality and choice. And with starters $20 per person. Awesome value. Oh and we had Gluten Free (just to try it out) surprisingly quite tasty.
