“SEAFOOD WITH A SOUL”

By Sylvain P |

A few minutes from the Subway Station - Franklin Avenue / Medgar Evers College-( Lines 2, 3, 4, 5, S), close enough from the Brooklyn Museum and Botanical garden, the Crabby Shack is a gem. After a pleasant walk down the peaceful and leafy Franklin Avenue, you’ll reach a clear and pretty little restaurant with a terrasse on the street. They serve lobster, different crabs, and shrimps, cooked with delicious butter ( salted, herb butter, spicy butter, mixed butter) . The results are superb, the sauce lovely and sooo tasty. It is generously served and you can order it with vegetables ( potatoes, corn, brocoli). We had it with a very good IPA ( Harlem Blue) and it was perfect. It makes for a real Soul Food experience and is really worth the détour!

Great addition to the hood!

We went to the Crabby Shack early on a Saturday night and had an awesome meal of super fresh and delicious Alaskan snow crab and steamed shrimp. While this spot is definitely best if you're looking for a casual roll-up-your-sleeves style dinner, it's spicy and delicious. Sides are simple and flavorful (we tried the steamed potatoes and corn on the cob), and drinks include homemade flavored teas, lemonade stand, and fancy grown-up sodas. Only a handful of beers and wines are available. Lots of daily specials on the menu which seems to rotate regularly. Can't wait to try the crab mac and cheese and crab BLT too! Only wish is for brown paper tablecloths and picnic tables out by the bay somewhere!

Secret Treasure

We loved their food. They are a little on the pricier side but it's so worth it. We order the clobster roll, crab grill cheese and 1 other item. Our total bill for 2 was approximately $60. However the seafood was real and fresh. I can dig it.

Delicious!!!

I love this place! I usually go there for pick up. Every time I order to go, the food is ready on time. Not to mention the food is DELICIOUS!! The seafood is always fresh. And the customer service that I do experience is great. The place is always busy!! And I can see why.

Seafood Heaven

By Percy H |

Seafood Heaven I must have died and gone to seafood Heaven. Man oh man, what a great dining experience I had going at The Crabby Shack! Honestly, I loved everything about this diamond in the rough. The diamond of course being the Crabby Shack. The rough being the minor renovations going on in the neighborhood. Now, why did I go? Well, a good friend of mine invited me to try this "seafood spot" in the neighborhood that he has become a regular at. Of course by now, you know what that "seafood" spot is called. So naturally, I join him and a few of my friend to chow down on some seafood that turned out to be most amazing. After a few minutes of observing the menu and voyeuristically observing the finger lick - gum smacking delight of other diners, I decided to go for the gusto. I ordered one of their more pricey items (rightfully so) the crab legs. I'm not going to go on and on but what I can tell you is that I finished my well seasoned crab legs in record time. My friends and I enjoyed the food and drink selection so much, two of my friend ordered takeout. I was so taken in by the food, I imaged that the dessert must have been just as good. The one item they had was banana pudding (I suggested they add peach cobbler - lol - personal preference) I ordered the banana pudding and finished that in short order as well! The staff? Simple A++++ You will enjoy everything, I promise.

So worth it

Ordered the Fra Diablo and muscles. Wow! Fun atmosphere very good prices for market value and we had a super sweet waitress that was on it; Janine. I will be back. This is the spot...my new spot!

A seafood lovers paradise

By yessie3000 |

After hearing about this place so much I decided to try it at least once. I heard about the lines at this restaurant so I placed a pick up order via YELP. When I arrived there was of course a line but the staff explained that you did not have to stand in line for pick up orders. The restaurant was small but cheerfully decorated and the staff was friendly. The prices are definitely steep but after tasting the food I was as bothered. I tried the Clobster roll and its was delicious. I appreciated having both in one sandwich because I love both lobster and crab but together they taste even better. I also tried the mac and cheese with crab. I think it is one of the best mac and cheese dishes that I have ever had. The added crab took it over the top. Unlike most restaurant mac and cheeses it was full of cheese which I loved. It also reminded me nothing of Kraft which I loved. If you love seafood you will love it here. I will definitely be returning for that crab mac and cheese!

Great Rolls

Filled With Lobster

I came here with my family so my sister could try a lobster roll and was happy I did. The restaurant is delightfully decorated, the service is friendly and the food was delicious. When I am in Brooklyn again, I will be back.

Good food poor service

By Frankinny |

We always try to get to know the new places that open around our Neighbourood and since that this is one of the latest we decided to give it a try. The space is inviting but with limited space to seat, the food is good but they serve it in plastic tray and paper and plastic containers and this is something that I personally don't like when I go to a restaurant, the service was ok

OMG! I love the Clobster Roll

By kcgg3000 |

Delicious food. If you love seafood you'll love this place. Mom said the crabcake sliders reminded her of being a little girl growing up in Baltimore. I've done take out from here at least 4 times. One day I'll have time to sit down and eat. 😊 Love the food!

The Crabby shack

Followed this place on Instagram and decided to come when I came back to NY. The place is small the menu is pretty small as well. We had a clobster roll which was New. We also had the broken legs and the shrimp and crab leg special. What I enjoyed the most was the crab Mac and cheese. The food price point was decent. They don't offer a wide range of drinks beer $7. Would come back but would like more seafood items as well as more drinks.

Great Staff, Food, & Jams

By Rachel B |

The clobster roll was amazing! The lobster was so delicious I almost had to get a second order. I got mine with a side of slaw that rounded the meal out wonderfully. The staff was amazing, they had an amazing Yoncé mix playing. They were singing and cutting up with customers. They even sang happy birthday to one of the customer’s that stopped in to celebrate their big day. It was clean, fun, and delicious. Next time I’m in Brooklyn I’ll definitely stop in for another meal. The homemade drinks looked delicious, but I was too parched from traveling that I just got a water.

If you love crabs, here's your spot!

I popped into the Crabby Shack this past weekend with a friend who saw their video on Facebook. My friend was visiting from Virginia, I am a Brooklyn native but had never been. The service was impeccable. We took our meal to go and ate at home. The portions were very generous, well seasoned and I definitely got my money's worth.

Outstanding

By Alan P |

Came across this place by accident on a hot day in Brooklyn. Went in as much to cool down as anything! Truly outstanding - simple place but nice. The crab BLT was exceptional as was the lobster/crab roll and corn. Very very good indeed!

Crabby Shack is not to be missed!

By Melieka W |

Tried the Crabby Shack for the first time during a weekend visit to NYC. We decided to take the subway from Manhattan to the Crabby Shack and it was really easy to find and fast to get to. The restaurant is about a 3 minute walk from the Frankin st. Subway stop. The restaurant is tiny but inviting and well decorated. The staff although extremely busy was very accommodating and friendly. We ordered the Crab Cake Sliders, corn on the cob, and the Shrimp and Crab legs combo. The sliders came with a lemon aioli sauce and the Shrimp and Crab legs were covered in garlic butter. The food all tasted very fresh and delicious. It was seasoned perfectly! I thought the crab legs and crab cakes were cooked to perfection. The corn on the cob though was amazing. All of the food was really good as was the Beer and the Joia soda. Washed my hands before the meal in the bathroom which was spotless and smelled nice. The Crabby Shack is such a gem in Crown Heights in Brooklyn! Locals and Tourists alike should make sure they visit! I will be happy to return as soon as possible.

Summer pleasing!

By NatashaGR |

The place is on Dean and Franklin. Very small but cute. There are even a few tables for outside eating. I got there at 3 for opening. While they were only taking cash this day bc of technical difficulties, this did not slow customer orders. Food is served in baskets with plenty of plastic cutlery and brown paper to cover your table with the mess you'll make eating the crabs. I had the Clobster, a side of garlic shrimp, and an order of cornbread. The clobster was very tasty. It's pieces of crab and lobster meat in a nice buttery sauce on a roll. One thing I hate every summer is a dry lobster roll. But I was scraping the basket after this one. The shrimp was also good bc it was served in a bag with its marinade. The cornbread was too soft and sweet for my taste but I still finished it. Top it all off with their sweet tea and I had a great lunch.

It was ok

By msToyanyc |

We are serious foodies and look for new places to try all the time. We all got the crab Mac and cheese my son and i didn't like it at all my cousin liked hers she also got a crab roll she said it was ok. I got a crab taco it was ok served on a corn tortilla with lemon aioli The crab legs and shrimp with the spicy garlic butter was good i added broccoli they didn't cook it long enough. We also got the passion fruit lemonade it was a bit tart just needed a little more sugar, also got a soda that was delicious. The service was great!! Very nice and energetic people even at 9 pm my cousin got banana pudding and peach cobbler to go. Nothing we ate had a lasting impression so we can cross it off the list been there done that

No corn or crab in the crab and corn chowder

By Mike A |

Crab in/on everything as suggested by the name. First try, its been open for about two years now, and I live about 6 blocks away. We were heading to Mayfield's and they had a forty minute wait so... Not much of a crab fan unless in a Delmarva joint with mucho beers and Old Bay, etc. or I make my own red sauce substituting King crab legs for Lobster. Crab BLT - 👌🏼 Crab roll - 👌🏼 Crab & corn chowder - 👎 Corn bread - 👎- soaked in butter Corn on the cob - 👍🏿sprinkle of Old Bay Cups of water - 👌🏼 Actually, not kidding - in the two bowls of chowder we found maybe 6 kernels of corn and gave them the benefit of doubt that maybe the crab sort of disappeared into the mix? Potato peels, no potatoes. Lots of celery and onion. SO its a hot slightly thick discolored milk broth - thats about it. Maybe they didn't stir the chowder and served from the top of the pot? I considered asking and showing but felt or sensed it was useless. Will we go again - doubtful.

crab grilled cheese

By Joe M |

I had the crab grilled cheese the first time I came here. And the second. And the third. All of the food looks great but honestly I can't stop getting the crab grilled cheese. The service is friendly and I like the boat decor. Crab grilled cheese!

got crabs?

By Andrew K |

super friendly greeting with a touch of warmth... we've been wanting to try this place, but we've waited for all the hype to go down... luckily, we went in, and there were only a handful of customers... we ordered the $20 special (half king crab, corn), and the crab melt... we dug in and realized, we still have room! I then ordered the crab mac'n cheese... everything about these 3 dishes, defines comfort food... what makes Crabby Shack stand above any place in City Island, is everything is made to order... king crab legs - boiled and seasoned.. crab melt - grilled as we waited... crab mac'n cheese - assembled, topped with cheddar cheese, then baked right there... they've won me on hospitality and freshness!

Clam Chowda!!!

By Foodie Sunny ☀️ |

If you like seafood this is a great go to. Located off the beaten path but very noticeable decor. Heated outdoor seating was great. Crabroll was really tasty but the bun it is served on looked like a hotdog bun. It was not the best presentation for the price. The crab grilled cheese and clam chowder were excellent. The cornbread tasted more like cake than cornbread. It is clear the restaurant is really popular for ordering out because a lot of people were grabbing and going! One let down was the gentleman at the counter seemed pretty disinterested in the CUSTOMER part of customer service. It is was like his cell phone and his hand were locked into each other. Not the greatest first impression.

Quick Tasty food

By Jim B |

The Crabby Shack has quick tasty food (it also happens to be across the street from a Covid testing place). A small quaint "Shack" that has very tasty Crab dishes. Nothing too fancy, but very tasty. would recommend if in the area.

Delicious seafood

By D P |

Recently, I went to The Crabby Shack for the first time. I saw the restaurant's owners on The Wendy Williams Show and decided to give it a try. I had the snow crab and the crab mac (baked macaroni and cheese with crab). It was very tasty. The seafood was well seasoned. I really enjoyed it.

I got crabs (on my plate)!

By Inspire26118 |

The seafood is pretty decent. The fried whiting comes with two slices of bread and some garden greens. I requested tartar sauce but that didn’t make the trip. Could be the fact that the delivery guy dropped the order before handing it off in a torn paper bag. The crab blt was excellent! Eat everything fresh when you get it. Any reheating will not generate the same experience from the original time you got your food. The fish was good and the crab tastes fresh. I would try it again.

Amazing little place

By Kristine S |

Top notch lobster and crab rolls. Lovely service and cutesy (but not overly so) interiors. Great place to visit if you're in Brooklyn (and don't mind the schlep down Atlantic Ave)

GREAT EATS!!

By DaFriskiOne |

Was in Brooklyn, looking for a Seafood restaurant in this area... Used GOOGLE to search ones 'nearby'... CRABBY SHACK was the 1st suggestion and right down the block from where I was. Was greeted by the aroma of well-seasoned seafood!! The décor reminded of being by side of a Wharf, with the lighting, walls, artwork, and the on-wall menus (with colorful writing). The hostess/cashier was friendly. Patient as I inquired about method of payment, also, while I decided on what to order... Final decision: Combo Seafood: Crab legs and Steamed Shrimp, Crab Mac, and Pineapple Lemonade.... Everything was to my liking!! Delicious and Hot.... I've eaten crab legs and shrimp before, but these were seasoned in a Spicy, Garlic Butter and served in a "steaming bag'.... You may request plastic gloves to eat to avoid messy fingers/hands... Two thumbs up on the Crab Mac!!! Cheesy with bits of crab meat... Nice portion, if I must say!!! As for the drink, next time I'll request less ice, but nonetheless it was refreshing... Overall, I enjoyed & savored every bite & sip... (I plan on returning real soon, especially for the Crab Mac) :)

LOVE MY SEAFOOD

By BLACKBUTTERFLYZ |

The Crabby Shack is a small restaurant. When I first ate there food it was thru take-out I love eating their snow and Dungeness crabs at home. When I went one day to pick the food up my self I was pleased to know that two Women own the restaurant and they had a great review from channel 7 news in NY, over the summer I sat in the restaurant three times the service was excellent one particular visit the owner was there she was Afro-American and very courteous. My last visit my sister and I enjoyed the food outside. Some of their prices went up slightly the crabs are very good.

Hidden gem in an otherwise desolate 'hood

By KKua |

This establishment is definitely a destination for dining. There's nothing else around, so arrive early so you can get a table (there are only about 20 chairs). Best to split your group... one half to queue up and order food, and the other half to hover over other patrons who will soon finish their meal :-) There is no wait staff. It's a cafeteria style self-serve. You pick up your food once your name is called. Pay attention to the staff calling names, otherwise, unscrupulous patrons just take your trays of food. With that aside, the atmosphere here is akin to a coastal crab shack. It's very humble and has a mom-and-pop feel. The seafood is FRESH and flavorful. Honorable mentions: mac and cheese was served piping hot (correct temperatures), the crabs were cooked in sealed bag where the juices also cook the veggies for extra flavor, and the AC keeps up with the hot atmosphere. The negatives: no liquor license for spirits and cocktails, soggy bread that holds the lobster roll, you clean up after yourselves, and no sugar-free beverages.

So.Good.

By mspooja19 |

This was an unexpected treat for me. First - the lobster and crab is FRESH. The rolls are perfectly made. Toasted just right and stuffed properly. I have no issue with a roll costing $20 when it is packed with lobster and made just right. The crab roll was wonderful as well. Packed and toasted perfectly. Cornbread is a weakness for me. This place made it worse for me. Not only does it taste delicious, the serving is more than generous. The banana pudding. I dont even have words for how delicious this was. Again generous serving size. The Crabby Shack is a gem in Brooklyn. I will return.

A day in New York

By Loraine J |

This past Saturday I was enjoying a weekend out on the town with family and decided to give The Crabby Shack for dinner. I tried the crab mac and cheese, the crab and shrimp boil and the crab grilled cheese. The best dish for me was the crab grilled cheese. It was very flavorful and full of crab. The mac and cheese had a lot of crab buy to me was oily. The crab leg and shrimp boil was seasoned well also. Everyone at the table shared all of the dishes and all agreed that the grilled cheese was the best for us, so much so that I bought an extra sandwich back home to DC for dinner. I would recommend giving this place a try.

Crabs for all

By vitodickersondv4 |

The crabby shack is a no-frills crab eatery in the heart of crown heights. It is a cozy informal place with few places to sit down and eat as most of their customers take the food back home or to their offices. The food at the crabby shack is authentically Maryland and is delicious. They offer many options and sides and their prices while high, aren't unusual for places that serve crab. What I really like about the crabby shack is the way, when you're waiting for your food, you can see the people in the back cracking crabs and stuffing the sweet meat into buckets. It's as real as it gets. All in all, the crabby shack is a great place to visit if you're in the neighborhood.

Cool new spot

By Comandante-of-Fun |

A welcome addition to the Brooklyn dining scene. Spread out the brown paper and dig into delicious crab dishes at the wooden picnic tables provided. The crab role was so rich and delicious. Also loved the Alaskan king crab platter. The meat was so moist and sweet. The sides (we had broccoli and corn on the cob) were solid if not exceptional. Try the banana pudding for dessert.

Yummy and fresh

By Valeria Rovellini |

We tried the Crabby Shak on our first night in Brooklyn, jet-lagged and dead tired, because it was near home. When we saw the queue we undesìrstood that we had come to the right place. Being so tired, we decided for take-out, but there are a few tables so eat-in is also an option. I had the crab roll, my husband tried the two tacos, shrimps and crab, and a soda. Ttal cost was 27$. Our order arrived quickly, and weell packed so nothing slipped out during our walk home. My roll was extremely simple: just bread and crab, that's the right way to taste the freshness of the fish. The meat was delicious, sweet and tender. My husband liked the tacos, which are a bit more elaborate, especially the shrimp one.

Great spot for seafood

By John C |

I had the clobster roll (crab and lobster). Probably the best I've had outside of Martha's Vineyard! The crab mac and cheese was superb!! Be prepared for lines as the place is small but definitely worth it!

Amazing

By Navy G |

So I decided to try this place (even though I'm not the biggest fan of crab) after reading rave reviews on Yelp, etc. Glad that I went. The crab meat is flavored to perfection and tender (I ordered the crab roll), and the bread, though it looks like a standard hot dog bun, is nicely flavored as well. Definitely better than any lobster roll I've ever had. I can't really touch on the sides, though, as I was not inclined to buy any after spending $12 on a crab roll; yes, it's pricey, which is a downside, but, then again, crab meat isn't the cheapest thing in the world to buy either. You get what you pay for. Do to the price, however, I can't see myself being a regular. But to those who can afford to do so and who love seafood, I highly recommend this place!

Everything was delish!!!

I love love this spot! Ive been a few times but decided to finally write a review. I got The CLobster Roll, Crab and corn chowder, collard greens and cornbread and wow wow wow! The soup is divine well seasoned and the clobster is hands down my favorite. The collard green are delicious like better than thanksgiving! My son got something from the chicken menu, Lemon pepper wings he hasn't stop talking about them! wehave already ordered them 3 times after that! my husband got a Arigato bowl which was well made, it came with salmon that had a asian glaze and cucumbers fried wontons sprinkles. What a pleasant surprise. this is now my go to. i must try more items because all of us were very pleased with our order. The customer service was ok when we were there, but when I went again to pick up my sons wings the young lady that day was so pleasant and kind. Im going after the alaskan crab legs and cauliflower bites next time!
