Beautiful room with a lot of history. The bartenders were friendly and very sociable. Try the Towering Inferno drink - it's delicious & fun! We had a blast.

This small but unique bar hearkens back to the 50's and 60's. You can imagine Frank Sinatra or Marilyn Monroe sitting at a table in the dimly lit lounge. The bar's shape and size precludes large gatherings and I would imagine that during happy hour, this place would be shoulder to shoulder. We visited early in the afternoon, so the bar was almost empty. The beverages were excellent, and the service was very good. A definite recommendation, but be prepared to wait during peak times.

This is a very reasonably priced old bar which has a lot of history to it. We arrived at happy hour, with the drinks being reasonable, food good, and service great. takes a few minutes for your eyes to adjust--it is dark! And while it was busy, they had an adequate number of waiters to keep everyone happy and not waiting.

This bar really complements the Hotel Deluxe within which it sits. Great place to start and end an evening out.

Located inside the Hotel DeLuxe in Portland, this was a great find. As we try to do each time we go out, we look for a new place to try and this place didn't disappoint. An expansive bar menu is just the tip of the iceberg. I like spicy drinks, and the Ghost in the Machine didn't disappoint. My wife is more of a fan of sweet drinks, so she opted for the Black and Blue, which was also very good. Though this place is known for their take on the Manhattan, we were both very glad that we chose what we did. Additionally, we were hungry and decided to try some food. Being a TripAdvisor junkie, I had seen an expansive menu that I wanted to explore. If you come here, you need to ask for the restaurant menu, as the menu offered in the Driftwood room is smaller plates and the like. We had the steaming hot mushrooms, roasted beet salad, risotto, and prosciutto wrapped scallops. ALL of it was fantastic and perfectly prepared. Very likely one of the best culinary experiences, combined with the ultra cool atmosphere and wonderful drinks, that we have experienced in Portland. Highly recommend giving this place a try. Please note, this is not an inexpensive place, but well worth it in my opinion, based on this experience.

dark and cavelike enough to snuggle up, quiet enough to hear each other and delicious drinks with lovely bartender

Beautiful bar. Wonderful mid century vibe. Love the logo. It's small, but intimate. Staff is great and they mix a great cocktail. In a pinch, the bar offers lobby service

We hadbtwo bartenders both were terrific the older on is named Mike. This is THE place to go to have a classic (or any) cocktail done right. The space is small dark and cozy. You can order food from the bar menu and Gracie's across the hall. The food we had was also fantastic and a great value. I look forward to returning to The Driftwood room often.

I love this bar. A must see in Portland for a pre or post dinner drink. Excellent bar tenders. Very dimly lit mini lounge with full bar and retro decor in the lobby of The Deluxe hotel.

This hotel bar feels like you are stepping back in time; it is classically retro. The Happy Hour started at 2 and it was obviously a local favorite. They feature champagne cocktails and plenty of food choices on their happy hour menu. There was great service and we enjoyed the oldies music in the background.

The bar is pretty small, so you'll be tempted to keep the secret to yourself. By far the best service I had in Portland a bonus that it was in my own hotel. Great mix of locals and visitors keeps the conversation lively.

Every bar in Portland seems to be trying their hand at craft these days. That means a lot of mediocre $14 drinks. Driftwood does not try, they do. Thanks Yoda. The setting is dark, intimate and small (like maybe 25 seats total). But if you have a larger group you can spill over onto the Hotel lobby we lots of couches there. Great happy hour, the sizzling forest mushrooms make you the immediate envy of the room. From classic champagne cocktails to perfectly balanced bourbon and scotch creations, everything is made with care and purpose. Jerry is wise beyond his years, ask for him. He learned under Mike who is no longer there but was a legend, at least in my mind. If you only had 1 day in Portland, it would not be complete without at least one drink here. And they have free valet. Yes please.

Great ambiance. Bar is in the Hotel deLuxe and has a great old Hollywood feel. It's small and tends to get busy, but well worth the visit. If bar fills up, the hotel serves drinks and apps in the pretty lobby.

This is one sexy lounge. Great cocktails and amazing bartenders. Dark, intimate, cozy. I make it a point to enjoy a drink here every time I visit Portland. The happy hour food is darned good, too.

Have the black and blue. You won't be disappointed. There are many other concoctions that will definitely satisfy your palette. Mike is one of the best bartenders I have had the pleasure to meet. He will suggest something for your current craving and it always meets your demands.

Another one of my favorite places to go for special occasions. A (mostly) quiet & cozy little bar to have a good drink and chat.

What a great find. I felt as if nobody had discovered this place yet. I was here solo on work and I could have come here every night of my stay. This was by far the best drink I had and the food is good too. The drinks are better than the food. The service was intimate and ambiance spot on! Kudos to this place and I will be back

We love the Driftwood room. Yum, get an Elizabeth Taylor! We have been going to this lttle bar for many years. It's very Portland-y for natives & visitors. It's sort of old fashioned in a really good way.

Loved the vintage vibe here! Not a kitschy vibe, but the vibe of a real 50s/60s hotel lounge. The kind of place you'd meet for a secret, sexy rendezvous. Beyond the atmosphere, the drinks are innovative and the food is tasty. Well worth stopping by for an evening cocktail!

Time to wind down, grab a martini with 3 olives and sit back and enjoy the comfort and quite. Darkly lit just enough to be inconspicuous.

This would have been a romantic place to get a drink or bite to eat if my husband and I had been there by ourselves but we were with another couple. The gentleman we were with wanted a Bud Light but they don't serve it - so he went without. And the room is very dark - probably the darkest place we've ever eaten or had a drink in. The service was great and the drinks my husband and I had were great.

Crowded because there was a birthday event in Gracie's but still ok because we had a late lunch and snacks in our room.

This restaurant was in our hotel (de Luxe) and we came here for a late night dinner and enjoyed it. It is open 9:30 to close for Happy Hour, which is great. I ordered a champagne drink (Springtime in Paris) and steamers with clams. I enjoyed both. My niece got a roasted cauliflower and my sister ordered a flatbread. Her order took a little longer to come out, and when it did the flatbread had goat cheese on it, which she hates. I had a bite before she sent it back and it was good. She eventually ordered the sizzling mushrooms, which I thought were delicious, buttery and a bunch of mushrooms in a sizzling skillet. She complained about the goat cheese incident, and they took the flatbread, mushrooms and drinks off the bill, which I thought was really nice. Overall, really liked this place.

Many interesting reworked drink recipes with newer flavors and liquors, many sourced locally. They have all of the old stands as well.

We went twice during our stay at Hotel Deluxe. Cool classic style bar. Crowded at happy hour, but a very good happy hour. Service was excellent - fast and personable. The bar food is really good and discounted during happy hour. Very reasonable prices and enough food to make it dinner. I had a peach mint muddled drink that was very refreshing. Husband had a classic Manhattan that they did very well. Over our two visits we had a burger that was really good, a bunch of the veggie sides that were excellent, and then the next day their smoked salmon tostadas that were delicious.

Was sold from the second I walked in. Dark and cozy to the point that I expected Frank and Dino to be sitting at the bar. Sazerac, a beverage for adults.

I had the happy hour pint which was an 8.5 percent 16 ounce delicious beer for 5 bucks. I expected some lightweight offering but it was a beer to start what turned out to be a great night. Worth the stop with a date, a buddy or on your own (I finished my work while drinking my beer, shhhhh, don't tell anyone).

Great looking/feeling cocktail bar in the lobby of Hotel DeLuxe. Well-made, imaginative cocktails from a very knowledgeable and friendly staff.

One of my favorite hotel bars I've ever been to. The service was fantastic, the Manhattan variations were delicious, and the atmosphere was perfect. I wish there was one in my hometown!

Small space, but intimate. It was a little loud and crammed, as there was a wedding at the hotel...the wedding guests really jammed up the lobby area and it was REALLY loud. We had gone for happy hour the past two nights (late night HH) and it was fine.

Absolutely loved this bar, we went every day we stayed at Hotel Deluxe! Beautiful, well made cocktails, friendly staff, and plush interior!

This place is like walking into a scene from an old black and white film. It can take a little while for food, but that's OK, as you're just relaxing and absorbing the atmosphere. Interesting cocktails in a very intimate setting.

It seemed like a cool place. The hotel is beautiful. And the atmosphere was pretty interesting. The waitress and bartender also seemed friendly. But there was zero air circulation - it was just too stuffy. We started to get sleepy before the first round was done.

Great drinks, small, really good food, decent happy hour, service is fun. Definitely get the forest mushrooms and the Gorgonzola cheesecake.

TripAdvisor reviewers recommended the 1950’s atmosphere of the Driftwood Room and they were right. I half expected to see Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin sitting at one of the tables in the lounge. In addition to the atmosphere (dark, intimate, and mellow), the bartenders were great and the food quite good. I had Kumamoto oysters for an appetizer. They were fresh but I had forgotten how small this type of oyster is ( my fault not theirs) and probably should have ordered 12 instead of 6. For my entree I ordered the lamb chops ( with a root vegetable medley). As my meal was being served, the sous chef (Donny) stopped by to explain and apologize that the lamb supplier had been giving them chops that were very thin and cooking them rare was difficult. He explained that the entree would be on the House because of this but I said ‘let me try it first.’ He actually nailed it! The chops were indeed thin but cooked perfectly. I told him I was happy to pay but ultimately my tab did not have the chops on it. I would have given the restaurant five circles instead of four except that the root vegetable medley was a little bland and the venue was honestly just a little too dark for my taste. The service however was excellent and I will definitely be back (with my pocket flashlight) for another try.

After a morning of hiking, we went to The Driftwood Room, based on reviews. I had The Spring in Paris champagne drink, it was refreshing. I had the local lamb "burger," I would actually call it a slider, rather than a burger. Husband had the kraut dog, we shared the truffle fries, the food was great, quantity, not so much. Luckily we were looking for a light meal before a concert.

Great happy hour cocktails, beautiful bar, and friendly bartenders. I will go back if I'm ever in Portland again.

great drinks and staff, but easily gets crowded and it's difficult to find a seat. Very popular, so go early.

I love this happy hour... it's one of my favorites in all of Portland. Every time I get the exact same thing because it is sooo good that I can't even try anything else :) I always get the mac and cheese and the cactus flower tequila cocktail and both are amazing. The service is always professional and fun. The atmosphere is cozy and glamorous!

Nice bar with creative cocktail list. Classic setting with bar and booths, good service, reasonable prices.

Very cool, cozy, dark, romantic bar is perfect for a cocktail before heading over to Gracie's for dinner, and maybe a nightcap before returning to your room. Great staff.

The complimentary breakfast at the deLuxe was excellent and we enjoyed dining in The Driftwood Room. It was comfortable and quiet.

Great drinks, amazing room. And all within stumbling distance of your room at deLuxe!

We've eaten at Gracie's several times in the deLuxe Hotel in Portland and have always had a great meal. We were going to have a very late lunch but the restaurant was closed between lunch and dinner service so we headed to The Driftwood. It's the bar in the hotel. It's a lovely little bar with several tables. We each had what we would've ordered in the restaurant and it was as delicious as we expected. I had the Croques Monsieur - so yummy. We also split an order of Cheesy French Fries. They are oh so good. Perfectly cooked fries - dark brown but not burnt - with white cheddar drizzled throughout the fries. Can't wait to go back.

You think Dean or Frank will walk in at any moment...... Happy Hour is great (and we were told about this place by a young friendly cop--good guy :) Champagne cocktails are on the happy hour menu and a really great sandwich too. Out of the normal stomping grounds, but worth the stroll.

Loved the service, and the pricy, but delicious, drinks!

Great bar tending staff - knew how to make a great saver AC drink. They need better lighting design. I used a flashlight to read the menu.

We just needed a small meal and tried the Driftwood. We found great choices and the food was excellent, came out in a short time.

This is a very small bar that is a throwback to the Sunset Strip lounge from another era. Cool decor, fantastic bartending and great drink menu. Hard to tell what time it is in there, but you can really chill with friends. Can be packed at hot times and a little hard to order drinks, but really worth a trip for cocktails.

Other than the fact that the room is very, VERY dark, this is a lovely and intimate bar. Creative cocktails and a nice bar menu from the adjacent restaurant. Friendly servers and comfortable bar seats as well as cozy booths. As our group grew we opted to relocate for the brighter lobby but we continued to enjoy cocktails and excellent snacks.

A perfect little adult cave to escape into! It was mid-week, mid-day when my husband and I went here and it was great. Attentive bartender, good drink selection, well-paired food... If you have poor eyesight you'll have a tough time reading the menu without a candle. :)

Beautiful classic bar. romantic and atmospheric. Yes kelt secret place in Portland, So many trendy bars but not this one. BBanquette, cozy cool lighting and well I love it.

We ate happy hour here, sat at the bar and bantered with the bartenders and servers all night. We had a great night. The staff is so friendly. They specialize in manhattens. We had several and loved them all. It you are a mushroom fan, order the skillet of mushrooms. So Yummy!

Perfect atmosphere within the Hotel DeLuxe. The drink menu is extensive and a small, bar menu is available.

The drinks are fun and movie star themed and the food is delicious with great happy hour prices. The bar is a little dark at night but great if you are looking for romance.

The atmosphere is Hollywood chic and the lighting is great, just right for an after work rendezvous. You can order appetizers or even dinner form the five star restaurant that shares the hotel lobby. Their mixed drink menu is very good but the wine selection is fairly limited. The staff acknowledges that they are not a wine bar. If you need one of Portland's best rooms you only need to walk out into the lobby and you are in the best boutique hotel in Portland. The vintage Hollywood decorations make the entire experience something to remember.

Very good food. Friendly, efficient staff & a decent selection of micro-brews on tap. The place has a nice vibe.

I love this place and have for years. I've been here when it's so busy that people have spilled out in the lobby and they have managed to stay ahead of the curve. Tonight though, it was only moderately busy and the two staff seemed completely unsuited for service today. I sat at the table nearest the bar and got my initial service pretty quickly. However, I sat for 15 minutes with an empty glass before either staff approached me to get my next order. I expect a little bit better management of a bar by its staff than this, especially given this is a 10 table bar. It wasn't a deal breaker and I'll come back but I wasn't happy at all this trip.

Dropped in here with my wife from upstairs in the Hotel deLuxe. Busy at 10:30. Service was prompt, the drinks were great. We had a late bite to tide us over until morning, and the food was delectable. The ambiance was great-- a classic old bar.

Great ambience. Delicious food and drinks. Nice variety. Attentive staff. Not a very large lounge if you have more than 2-3 people. Pretty dimly lit. We loved our food but couldn’t see what we were eating haha

The Driftwood Room is one of those timeless classics that make you forget we live in a modern world where intimate tables and close conversation don't happen often enough. Its dark cool vibe and ultra swank setting make this a must on any late night cocktail tour. Be prepared to rub shoulders with a wide variety of people and culture as this is the Lobby Bar of the Hotel Deluxe - it feels very big city - in a very intimate space.

Amazing bar with even better bartenders. This was, by far, the best part of our trip to Portland. We will be back to this bar for sure.

Visiting the Driftwood Room brings you back in time to the glory days of Frank Sinatra and his friends from the Rat Pack. Mood lighting, great food, and wait staff that are very accommodating. Best mac & cheese in town. Great drinks. Just go.

I stopped in after a long day of travel. I didnt feel like a big meal so i chose the Dungeness crab salad with bread crackers. What a perfect little warm meal for the weary! The bar tender did look at me strange when I ordered a beer instead of a cocktail. (They only have two beers)

I'm confused as to how this place shows up at #8 in Portland at the time of my visit. Portland has amazing food, and honestly this should not be in the top 50. Service was below average. It's shared group service, so at times it was attentive and others I was having to track someone down. Food was average. I had a Caesar salad, truffle fries and the Croque Monsieur. The fries were not good - way too soft, no crisp. The sandwich was average. Portion sizes we're good. Happy hour prices were good for food, but above normal Portland happy hour prices for drinks. The best part of the Driftwood room is the classic, retro setting... pretty cool and the other reviewers are accurate here. It's confusing that other reviewers critique the food yet still give it a 5/5 rating? The Driftwood Room is decent, but it's not a 5/5... and it's definitely not a top 10 Portland restaurant or happy hour spot.

champagne cocktails for happy hour -- macaroni and cheese and field mushrooms are my favorite. great drinks, great food, great atmosphere, great deals during happy hour. we go every time we are in town

For my wife & I, this is our go-to happy hour place. The food is amazing. The wine selection is great. The cocktails (Oh...don't get me started) are awesome. Try the Black & Blue Martini, it's my #1 in all of Portland. The ambiance and staff are second to none. Go and enjoy happy hour there. You won't be disappointed!

This place was very nice comfortable and Intimate with great service. All of the food and drinks where amazing a must visit for portland

You almost expect the Rat Pack to come strolling through the Driftwood Room. If you can't get romantic here under the virtually non-existent lights, call it a night and go home early.

Bring the night vision googles! I know it is their theme of an old Vegas, or LA lounge, but when you have to use the flashlight on your iPhone to read the menu...yikes! Drinks were good, and the staff knew their cocktails too.

We stumbled in via a search on my phone. It is very small but there were seats at the bar. Great atmosphere and excellent drinks and the bartender had good suggestions for other places to go after our stop there. We didn't have the bar food but the menu looked awesome and cheap.

Nice little throwback to the past...Happy hour has everything half priced...They have local featured craft brew and awesome bar food!! GO!!!

Simply the best! Be forwarned, however, Happy Hour drink specials are solely for champagne cocktails, even well liquor (which is happily mid-shelf) comes at full price. Great selection of Happy Hour eats. In the old days, they gave away free popcorn and it was a great place for a scotch. Super awesome for date night and hanging out with old friends.

Be careful. The menu link from the trip advisor site brings up an out of date menu. The actual menu is quite different and considerably more expensive. I had a $24 chicken parmigiana, which was good but way overpriced. My friends had spaghetti Bolognese for $20, also good but overpriced. We went there because the menu we saw posted on the trip advisor site had a wider variety of dishes for lower price. I was really looking forward to a braised beef pasta dish, which was listed at $15, but didn't exist. Overall, the food was decent but overpriced.

Forget you, Toby. This is the bar I love. Fortunately it's 1500 miles away or I would probably be there every night. It's like taking a little side trip back in time. It's easy to imagine you're back in the fifties, especially with the vintage cocktails. The decor is beautiful and the service very attentive.

Just happened to find this place in the historic part of Portland. Super dark room on the corner of a very old hotel lobby. This place is defiantly a place worth visiting if you enjoy bartender creations from the past. 🎷

Great atmosphere! Classic and stylish retro bar scene, yet still very chic. Love it! Exceptional Bloody Mary!

They have a lavender manhattan called the "Goodnight Gracie", the best Manhattan I've ever had. Their Gorgonzola Cheesecake is to die for and the Croque Monsieur is one of the best. Be sure not to pass up the white cheddar fries. Mike the Bar tender is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet, get him on a slow day and he'll be happy to tell you all about his passion for making unique drinks. The atmosphere is very private and a great place for a night with a loved one. They have free 2 hour valet parking which makes things convenient. Highly recommend!

Upon arrival to the DeLuxe hotel, we stopped in for a happy hour drink. I had a champagne cocktail and hubby a beer. We ordered Parmesan fries. Really good fries (we get frites quite a lot ). Great music, friendly bar tender, classic 60’s motif.

This place is just downright sexy. Dark and slinky with great drinks. Love going here after an early show.

Try this drink: Nosferatu hot monkey vodka, st. elizabeth allspice dram, passion fruit, blood orange and house made sweet & sour

The Driftwood room is a Portland icon. It has been refurbished exactly like it looked in the 50s. It is a dark space, perfect for happy hour and late night drinks. It is a bar, not a restaurant, but you can get food from the hotel's wonderful restaurant, Gracies. Our particular happy hour favorite is the sizzling forest mushrooms.

Great place for after theater, a nightcap after dinner or for no reason at all. Great drinks, affable bartenders and nostalgic atmosphere, I love this place.

Cool, dark, kidney shaped sliver of a bar very sixties chic-perfect for a secret meeting and a great menu of Hollywood -themed craft cocktails!

Stopped in driftwood for a drink before dinner. The ambiance was very nice and the service was great. The room is very small and quaint, it is a great place to have a drink on a date. I had the springtime in Paris (my new favorite drink) and my husband had a Manhattan. Both drinks were very good, I will definitely go back if I visit Portland again!

This is the very popular and distinctly decorated bar in the Hotel DeLuxe near the Pearl District. They have a beautifully decorated, warm and romantic space. Great for drinks or meeting up with a small group if friends. You could also have a larger group out in the very charming lobby of the DeLuxe. There is plenty of seating set within a backdrop of vintage Hollywood ambiance. They have an extensive Manhattan menu, but I was drinking one of their expertly and freshly prepared bourbon drinks, The Smoking Gun. Absolutely delicious. My husband was drinking The Pit and the Pendulums"; a very tasty champagne cocktail. A very nice place to have a drink before heading out to explore Portland's Pearl District. Or you could lounge here all night!

This is one of favorite go to bars on a rainy Portland day, well even on sunny days. The staff is excellent and well trained. It is a bar with a very good bar menu served from Gracie’s restaurant across the hall. The cocktail menu is deep, Lots of champagne cocktails, excellent choice.

This is among the best drink and food elections of any lounge. I loved the Manhattan menu and recommend the Manhattan Board (sampler) All the food was great, I had the steamers. They have lots of gluten free and vegan items.

Lovely little cocktail lounge in the Deluxe Hotel. It was recommended to us by a waiter at Higgins, and it didn't disappoint. Great cocktails, great vibe. Had fun watching the bar in action, and the action at the bar!

We love the atmosphere of the Driftwood Room, but the service is always lacking. The staff from the restaurant struggle with delivering food to the right table and the staff inside the Driftwood are slow and don't follow up. There is a lack of attention to detail.

I stayed at the Hotel De luxe and decided to have some drinks in the bar. It was packed at 6 pm so I took a walk and came back at 7:30, (post happy hour). I opened the drink menu and found that they had a Manhattan Sampler. They had a selection of Manhattans made from local and well known Bourbon's and Rye. They were served on a wooden plank, similar to what you might see with a beer sampler. The drinks were amazing! I also ordered some Mac n' Cheese off of the bar menu. It was smooth and creamy with a crispy top. I couldn't finish it. This is a great bar if you want something quiet, small and great drink list. Warning, bring your cell phone light to read the menu. The only thing missing was my wife to share the romantic bar setting.

very nice hotel bar at the hotel deluxe. mixologists know their stuff and happy hour is reasonable too. pretty dark in there so bring your flash light.

This bar is located inside the Hotel de Luxe which is decorated in old Hollywood luxury but the Driftwood has an equally unique decor of dark and sultry with the driftwood as art. The bar has very low light and intimate seating for sexy hushed liaisons. The bartenders know their stuff- a must in this craft cocktail town. We enjoyed Negronis on this visit. We also tried several items from the happy hour menu which were all fantastic: sautéed cauliflower, Croque Monsieur sandwich and a Caesar salad. The beer list had many varied selections to accommodate every palate.

Dark. The Driftwood Room is dark, trying to find a table and read the menu is a chore. But that all adds to the charm of this place. We found this place and guess what, it was Happy Hour. We bought a bottle of wine at a great price and had the Mushrooms - which was fantastic, and probably the best we every had.Say hello to Reed the bartender for us.

Excellent cocktail (The Pit and the Pendulum) and happy hour food (Mac and Cheese and Vegetarian Portobello Burger); generous portions

Dark and sexy is how I describe the Driftwood. The bartenders are well versed in the classics and the trends in the drinking world (important in Portland, a player in the international bar scene). The food menu is also elevated, my favorite is the savory Gorgonzola cheesecake. Never disappoints.

Some of the best mixed drinks I've ever had: Perfect blend of enough alcohol, rich flavor, and not too sweet. Nice ambiance too...

My husband and I had happy hour here on a Saturday night while we were staying in the hotel. I ordered the portabella sandwich, and the Portland '58 (a pear brandy champagne), while my husband ordered the cheeseburger. We shared the white cheddar fries and the chocolate stout cake. Everything was absolutely delicious! The waitress was very sweet, and it was all a very good value! I would happily recommend this to anyone!

We were not able to get into the well-known and (overly?) popular whiskey library so we decided to have a nightcap at the Hotel deLuxe bar. It was definitely our good fortune - Thank you karma! The menu of cocktails, spirits, and digestifs is extensive but not overwhelming. Our waiter was friendly with just the right level of attentiveness. The atmosphere is relaxing and comfortable with a nod to Old Hollywood. You expect Humphrey Bogart to walk in. The food looked amazing, and we will definitely return for dinner the next time we are in Portland.

Pleasant "mood" atmosphere, with excellent service, including willing substitutions. Limited food service (after all this is basically a bar), but everything my party sampled was delicious, from their gourmet kitchen.

The service and atmosphere here is AMAZING. The drinks were fabulous. My husband enjoyed them. I do not drink but the bartender made me something special that was non-alcoholic. Fills up quick. Bar bites are just OK

Great jazz accompanied by great service makes for a great experience! We were tired from travelling all day, and The Driftwood was a nice respite at the end of the day. Signature cocktails are wonderful as well.

Such a cute, tiny, throwback bar. It is dark, which is great! Small with a few tables around the back. Great place to sit at the bar. Comfy chairs and an attentive bartender that knows his stuff. The Manhattan is great. The deviled eggs with pork belly are decadent. Went well with the bubbly! Good service, a discount during Happy hour. Romantic drink spot so take your other half and enjoy!

I recently went to the Driftwood Room last Friday prior to seeing a Thorns game because it was very close to the stadium and had great reviews for happy hour. The place is a bit small and you may have trouble finding a seat if you go during their daily happy hour (2pm - 6:30 daily). They are more than happy to serve you in the lobby but seating is fcfs. The staff is great and very friendly. The drinks and happy hour food is very good and a great deal. They had drink specials including red/white bottles of wine for $25 and food is 5-7 per item. I had the salad which was pretty basic, the lamb burger (highly recommend this), the mussels and the flatbread. For two people you can easily leave feeling full and not spend too much money. For a great deal and a very unique spot, you definitely should try this place out.

Nice place, tiny but super charming. And great drinks. Staff were cool and accommodating. We asked for a charcuterie plate without meat, and they just dumped a load of goat cheese on to fill the space. Not easy to eat, but otherwise was great!

We're staying at the Deluxe Hotel (in which you will find the Driftwood Room) and met the in-laws at Driftwood our first night for drinks and a simple late dinner. We were delighted by the cocktails (I liked the Thai Gimlet so much I didn't get to try others) and really enjoyed the food. The atmosphere is cozy; the music is not too loud & you can easily hear all at the table without hearing your neighbors. The decor is retro fun, but if you're eating, you will need to be creative about where dishes go, as the tables are cocktail size. At first, I was worried we hadn't ordered enough, but after several tasty dishes, we were all satisfied. We had the Oregon burger with bleu cheese, which had some seasoning in the burger and was cooked perfectly. It wasn't anything to make a special trip back for, but it was a very tasty burger and cut in four, it was almost as big as four sliders. The hot dog with pretzel bun sauer kraut was decent, but the bun (& dull knives) made it a little difficult to share. The cheese fries come in several fashions; we choose white cheddar, which was layered (nice!) throughout the basket of fries and was shredded cheese so as to not make the fries immediately soggy. The spicy broccolini was a tasty, healthier treat and the forest mushrooms come in a skillet with bread on the side--these were fought over and more than one serving of bread was consumed. Lastly, the bowl of mac and cheese was my favorite. Lovely white cheese sauce with a little pepper and seasoning, topped with bread crumbs. Yum! My only complaint was service was hit or miss. The bartender was super friendly and good, but it appeared to be group service, and some servers were not as quick (or even followed through with a request). Plates were piled up on the railing next to our table and not cleared. The service was not bad enough, however, to really impact our enjoyment. We will definitely be back, if nothing to try out more cocktails, many of which looked like an interesting mix of flavors.

The Driftwood is a dark long narrow room with a long bar and about 7 table. Great drinks and a good happy hour. I had a Black and Blue which was a blackberry blueberry martini.

Wonderful that the restaurant/hotel had valet! Rush hour in Portland is a " witch with a 'b'", so being able to drive to the door and have a nice person with a smile deal with the car is a HUGE plus :) The lounge was hammered, too, so we had to wait for a bit...we had arrived after the locals had gotten off work. The lounge is TINY--think there are only nine tables, so arrive early. There might be 10 seats at the bar. There are many places to sample in downtown Portland. I would return to The Driftwood for the valet parking and cool staff; the food is indifferent, sorry to say. The Driftwood Room is totally retro, so go for that !

The food is amazing (the forrest mushrooms are my favorite) and the setting is sexy. It's small, but perfect for an intimate date.

The Driftwood room is a throwback to a 1950's bar. Dark, with comfy seats. The bar does offer specialized cocktails which were interesting. But the quality of the food has slipped. We have been here on other occasions and it was fine. The "crispy" shrimp was a soggy mess drowning in siracha sauce. I love spicy food but this was unedible. The ceviche was a lot of veggies - we had to struggle to find any fish. I would go for the atmosphere and the great cocktails but advise caution on food choices.

Step back in Mad Men time to cocktails and appetizers. Be sure to try the barrel tastings ( literally on a barrel rib). A good spot for people who do not want to be seen together!

Dropped in for happy hour before going to crystal ballroom. Drinks - nice $5 Pilsner and Pinot Grigio. Very attentive service. The food. We had charcuterie plate and salmon. Both good. Waiter brought extra bread for charcuterie on request. Atmosphere was great for a quiet drink. Dark. Small tables. Unique decor. It was mid-week so there was plenty of space. Like it.

I mean its been here forever, its dark, its not too big, its not too loud, the drinks are fabulous, the bar snacks are just as good. The bar tenders are delightful - drink here!

Good happy hour deals and a very cool place! I especially loved that they do two happy hours a day - one, 4-6 and one 9:30 to close. Great for an after dinner drink when you're staying in the hotel

Very good service, nice cocktails. Was perfect for pre-dinner drinks or simply waiting for your colleagues to get ready. Was also great when we didn't want to go out due to heavy rain.

Dean Martin could have designed this great hotel bar off the lobby of the magnificent Hotel Deluxe. Just right for a romantic rondezvous or to celebrate a milestone. We love this place. Husband loves the soups and chowders but I love the cheese and charcuterie. The lobby lounge with its vintage Hollywood look serves same menu. Must go!

This bar was so dark and closed in it was uncomfortable. The drinks were interesting, I had a flight of old fashions that were good, but could have been bigger. But it's hard to get passed the closed in feeling so after one drink we left for more open spaces

The Driftwood Room has the best ambiance, food, drinks and service combined for a truly fantastic time. Happy Hour is wonderful, and the bartenders never fail to impress with suggestions for the most delicious drinks that cannot be had just anywhere. The menu, which changes up quite a bit, is always impressive.

We started w martinis bendricks for me, glass and drink were not cold and served w a lemon rather than a cucumber, bad start. We had the chartreuse and cheese which was good. As an entree we split the mac and cheese which was mediocre at best and I had the pork belly on rye as the server recommended, whic g was very good, and my wife had the ham and cheese sandwich as was also rec and itt was greasy but average. I had my entree with no cocktail nor water which is a put off for me. Cool atmosphere but the other two places we have ate have had good atmosphere and great to excellent food and the same for the service (Cassidys and Andina)

I cannot agree more with the reviewer who compared this lounge to "Mad Men" because that's exactly the way it seems. It is very dark and romantic and the lounge curves around a bit. It can get cramped when it's busy, but it's worth it. This place has an amazing happy hour menu and my husband and I got a lot of food for very little money.

Super cool vibe.amazing cocktail menu. Including 10 different Manhattans. Best Sazarac Ever. And and and ...not one but two happy hours early and late!

Great cocktails and the staff made some great recommendations for restaurants.

I only go here for happy hour cause its a little pricey otherwise, but I do love it. The ambiance is very sexy old hollywood, the drinks are quite tasty and the food is good too! Mac and cheese is heavy but delish. I recommend it!

I love this place. When I did a lot of performing in the hotel, I would go here for a meal and drink beforehand. When I was by myself I'd sit at the bar and chat with the bartenders. When I was on a date with my husband, we sat out in the lobby area. The food was always excellent, the drinks tasty and boozy, and atmosphere made me feel like I was back in time, yet it was still modern. I would recommend this place for any one traveling solo, with a date, or out for a birthday.

We love the Driftwood Room -- with a twist. While the actual Driftwood Room with it's vintage bar and decor is charming, we prefer being served in the Hotel DeLuxe lobby with it's comfy chairs and sofas, slides of old film stars, and relaxing atmosphere. We have been here many times during trips to Portland. The Happy Hour menu is very good. Cocktails are fun! The Oregon wines have yet to disappoint. The Bar Bites are great, and a bargain during Happy Hour. Plenty of food, even for sharing. The cheeseburger, mac 'n cheese, mushrooms, various salads, veggies, crab cakes, fries...all ordered at one time or another by us or friends and found to be very tasty. This is a great place to visit, particularly on a wet Portland evening. Warm, comfortable, sophisticated.... One of our favorite Portland spots.

The room itself was full so we sat just outside. Service was good & food also. It was a nice relatively quiet atmosphere. Enjoyed it.

Small, intimate and sexy! The selection and quality of Manhattans are excellent. Its always a bonus to get one of the tables but bar service is also good.

I keep coming back to the Driftwoodroom for cocktails and atmosphere. It tends to be a little difficult to find good and a little more creative non-alcoholic cocktails around Portland, yet this place won't let you down. I have liked every single one of them so far, some with rosewater, others with elderberry. Love them all. Staff knows it's craft and will happily assist you with any questions. Great place for a date too. Their fries are awesome, just in case you just need a little bite on the side.

Our family has enjoyed the Driftwood room since the 1950's to the present, often stopping there before we had our Thanksgiving or Christmas meal in the dining room. The family who owned the hotel and kept it in tip top shape sold a few years ago and we feared for the planned "massive renovation" by the new owners. All they did was make it all better especially the Driftwood Room where you can enjoy a Ramos Ginn Fizz or one of their well known new cocktails. No matter what, you will feel like you are in a Gregory Peck movie.

The Driftwood Room located inside Hotel Deluxe has a great happy hour menu and delicious champagne cocktails. The dark setting and hotel decor remind me of old Hollywood from the 50s. The truffle fries come with dipping sauces and the croque monsieur (grilled ham and cheese) sandwich is delicious.

Small bars have a unique charm. People are often apt to chat to strangers and share fun stories in this one. This bar has a capacity of probably less than 30 people, with small table seating and at the bar. The bartenders are classic Portland experts with a wide selection of spirits. They have a small bar menu if you want a snack or light dinner.

And that’s a good thing. Old school bar that’s not quite a speakeasy. Good drinks and service. Funky old Portland.

This is the main /open bar in the Deluxe Hotel. Josh and all the bar staff are very welcoming, and very knowledgeable, and hes a CFC supportor of the USA. They have a vast array of drinks to cover all your needs and its usually busy at the weekend, but you can chill in the lobby and they will tend all your needs. Great Bar to relax and chill.

Terric restoration of the bar that was housed in the Mallory Hotel. Now the hotel name has changed to the Deluxe but the restoration of the Driftwood is the same as the good old days. Great Vesper martinis and happy hour burgers, etc. Quiet place for business or a date with your sweetie.

Their happy hour wasn't that great of a bargain but the cocktails were good and the ambiance was relaxing. It had a very swanky 1950s vibe. What a great hotel bar!

Very cool vibe here. It was almost too dark & it's really small but my husband & I managed to find a table during happy hour. We only had a couple of appetizers but they were delicious! The original drinks we had were even better! The Elizabeth Taylor is a champagne cocktail & was very good. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the other drink I had because it was even better! It had different berry juices in it. My husband had a couple of martinis that were good, but even at happy hour were not cheap. This place is worth checking out, very cool vibe and decor. Not a cheap happy hour place but worth stopping in as a pre-dinner date night stop.

I love the vibe of the hotel deluxe and their main restaurant Gracies. I don't know why I always forget about the equally fab driftwood room. Supercool old Hollywood vibe. Their food menu is yummy - gorgonzola cheesecake being the standout foe me, but really, you cant go wrong. They have an extensive drink menu. The black and blue is so delicious its a little dangerous. Food is moderately priced but drinks are high. The food and drink quality is good so I guess you get what you pay for.

Had happy hour here while staying at the hotel. There were four of us and it's really designed for couples. When we first went in there was no sitting for us and so we just ate in the hotel lobby. When we ended up moving into the bar itself - it was cozy with a nice warm feel. The food was just average.

Visited twice while we stayed in the Hotel DeLuxe. It's dark and glamorous in the Driftwood Room. Their happy hour is wonderful and you can try lovely champagne cocktails like the Elizabeth Taylor (featuring creme di violette liqueur). Actually, they have 2 happy hours - a daytime one and an evening one. Very friendly and attentive service.

My favorite ever bar. Stylish and takes you back in time in a good way Great service Great selection of non alcoholic and alcoholic drinks and excellent food choices

We are blessed in many ways here in the Pacific Northwest, and this is just one shinning example. The Driftwood room has it all when it comes to a bar: excellent libations and service in a world-class atmosphere. The happy hour food is none too shabby either. If it has one drawback it is that it's on the small side and can become very crowded. Then again, we've been here on a rainy Saturday afternoon and had the whole place to ourselves.

The Driftwood Room is off the Hotel deLuxe lobby. It is dark upon entering but the staff brighten it up for you very quickly. There are two Happy Hours per day so go before or after dinner...or both!

Cute dark bar with cozy seating, bar menu and nice selection of liquors. The service was very good and it was a great place to grab a drink after a dinner out.

So we didn't paln on having any apps or dinner here, just went for their cocktails. Such a cool environment! And the hotel and restaurant look amazing! Bartender was fantastic! Gave great advice on where to go, and all folks in the hotel as we entered could not have been more accomodating. If I didn't have my go to condo to rent, I'd be so tempted to stay there. We hadn't few specialty cocktails and they were really good. I recommend this place for dates.

We lucked out when we arrived late in the evening to Hotel Deluxe! Who would think that the hotel bar would have fabulous drinks and delicious food!? They do, and if you happen to be there during Happy Hour, the prices are amazing( there is one that starts at 9:30 pm as well). We ordered a champagne cocktail, beer, salad, flatbread, and a burger. The bartenders were personable and the atmosphere is nice.

It’s a couple of years since our last visit, we decided to call in for happy hour after a Timbers game. It was the day of the starlight parade so the actual driftwood bar was full. The staff however served us happy hour food and drinks in the lobby area. The lobby is comfortable and nicely decorated. Plenty of room. Drinks were great, really loved the food - fries, caprese salad were tasty but the highlight was the Gorgonzola cheesecake- wow.

Tucked away inside the Hotel deLuxe is this quaint little spot. We stopped in last night for their later happy hour. There were five of us in the group. Our waiter actually recommended that we spread out and take up another table, so we'd have plenty of space for food and drinks. Happy Hour menu features sharable dishes and some price breaks on drinks. The Panini was so-so, but the Wedge Salad really hit the spot! Also I was quite fond of the Portland 85 drink. The atmosphere is hip, but understated. It's a dark little corner with a very Portland vibe. The tunes really brought it all together.

The atmosphere is cozy and retro - loved it! The drinks were good - hard to find someone who knows how to make a sweet/sour margarita. The prices are high!

The bar is cozy and comfortable. Happy hour menu is unique but do get the forest mushrooms. The portion was huge, and oh so tasty. It's a small romantic bar with low light to gaze on your companion and adore the company you are with.

Cool little bar inside the Hotel Deluxe that actually has a lot of character and a solid food menu. Bartenders make craft cocktails, wine list is small but good, and they also deliver out to the lobby area if you want to hang out there. Happy hour from 4 - 6 is great because it coincides with complimentary champagne in the hotel lobby.

Very dark, romantic bar. Cozy seating. Wonderful cocktails and bites. Early and late-night happy hours.

This is a fabulous intimite bar with great food. Eat on a happy hour night and it's also pretty cheap. Had delicious flat bread dish.

Feels like a glamorous 1940s beachside hideaway bar. Great bar and food. Popular happy hour. We go here to celebrate "wins" like buying a house, closing a business deal, etc. Valet, lot or street parking. Great restaurant adjacent. Cool lobby. Lots of memorable fun

It's small but dripping with character and characters. It is dark after coming in from the bright lobby but there is more seating around to the right. Excellent attentive bartenders and some decent bar food. It's the kind of place where you overhear a man asking his lady friend, "what's your husband doing tonight?"

Wonderful atmosphere to enjoy a nice selection of good Manhattans made with quality vermouth. Even the standard Manhattan was made using Maker’s Mark and combination of top quality sweet vermouths. We will be visiting The Driftwood Room again.

I was in Portland on a business trip and stayed at the Deluxe Hotel - which is where the Driftwood Room is located. My co-workers and I were in the bar area most nights to hang out after long days with meetings. I ordered the Bread Pudding and it was fabulous! Lots of flavors, great texture- please try this dessert. You will not be disappointed.

Wood paneled 60s style bar. Ample seating at the bar or at tables. Limited food choices but good quality and value. Nice choice of beverages.

This place seeps with history and glamour. Dark yet cozy with the best bartenders ever! They sell more absinthe than anywhere in Oregon and for good reason. Their absinthe cocktails are better than any I’ve had in France . But don’t leave without having their sizzling mushrooms and Gorgonzola cheesecake.

Loved the cozy, quiet atmosphere of the Driftwood and that you can order a variety of food, some of it very unique to a bar such as grilled cauliflower which was excellent. Impecible service.

My first boyfriend's grandmother was tiny, Italian, and adamant, warning him: "Evil lurks in dark places!" I now beg to differ. The Driftwood Room is my favorite bar - anywhere. It's tiny and dark as night, but warm and friendly. The drinks are fresh and interesting, the wines well chosen and the little plates perfect for a light dinner. The staff are gracious and attentive. I could live in the Hotel deLuxe, and hang here nightly. Their happy hours are both early and late - perfectly happy.

A few of us popped into the Driftwood Room to celebrate a friend's birthday on a Saturday. We found the place to be a bit more "swanky" than expected as I felt under-dressed in jeans and a sweater. The venue was packed as their was a wedding going on the same night. We were served in a timely manner, and the bartender was very friendly. The happy hour menu prices are good and the food was decent. We would probably stop in a night during the week when things are a bit more low key.

We enjoyed the Manhattan menu (extensive and interesting!) and other drinks. Bartenders and wait staff were knowledgable and attentive. Drinks were delicious and a reasonable price. We also had the sizzling mushrooms which were decadent and flavorful. YUM!

The Driftwood is one of those tucked away bars that make you feel warm and welcome while maintaining a level of superior service and selections. The happy hour menu has a wonderful range of dishes that pair perfectly with a late afternoon cocktail. From the vegan friendly to the paleo plenty, there is something for every appetite.

The Driftwood Room is a great lounge, designed to evoke a feeling of stepping back in time for sure. While it's small, it never gets noisy or a crowded feeling, even when full. The bartenders are great and very helpful. In addition to the usual beverages, they have several signature drinks as well as food from the restaurant. The Vesper was an excellent take on the martini and if all bourbon drinks taste as good as the sideburn, I might change my drinking habits.
Double happy hour
Located in the lobby of the Hotel deLuxe is a swanky 40's-esque little bar called the Driftwood Room. I wasn't alive in the 40's, but I imagine if you just added some suits and cigar smoke, you'd be getting the real deal. Fortunately, the Driftwood Room is smoke-free and casual, despite the classy surroundings. They offer double happy hour ever night from 4-6 and 9:30-11:30, and serve some incredible small and medium size bites. The mac and cheese and cauliflower were our favorite dishes, paired with tasty champagne cocktails and dollar-off beers. The cocktail menu is also quite tempting, but unfortunately not included in HH. The bar is rather small, with only about 6 tables and maybe 8 bar stools. Gets crowded with hotel patrons and after events at Providence Park, which is just a few blocks away. I highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area! The Driftwood Room is worth a visit (or 4, like we did during our stay at the deLuxe!).
