This is a truly romantic dining room. The menu features classics and nightly specials. Dark woods accentuated by glass and brass lend to this period dining room.

Staying at the hotel so we decided to try the 1886 grill for brunch. Superb, friendly service and excellent food. The Huevos Rancheros was the best I've ever had… served in a cast iron casserole with tortillas between the levels. Perfect! Nice selection of teas, well-served. And enjoyed the windows into the kitchen, watching the chefs prepare the meals. You won't be disappointed here… the Driskill is a great hotel in the grand 19th century style & the lobby is worth visiting even if you're not staying here. The charm carries through to the restaurant; fitting complement to a beautiful hotel.

The food here was pretty good. We ate here while we were staying at the Hotel itself. The space is really neat and they have some southern classics

We had a wonderful lamb loin and rib eye dinner at The Driskill Grill. Delicious Cauliflower Bisque, too. Service was wonderfully attentive.

Having heard the stories of how this hotel is haunted, we headed in for a stroll. Ended up having lunch. The atmosphere was cool. A lot of people to watch. We had burgers. They were good. We enjoyed our beverages and the service. No haunted encounters for us though. 😁

I have been visiting the bar at the Driskill for years - it is my favorite in Austin. Incredibly, I never noticed the restaurant right next to the bar! My wife and I were staying at the hotel and were heading to the bar when one of the staff offered to show us to the restaurant - what a wonderful surprise! It is a lovely space and the service was outstanding. We ordered the 5 course tasting menu with wine pairing and enjoyed it thoroughly. Each course stood alone but also went well together. I never would have tried Pork Belly but now I am looking for it everywhere I go! A great restaurant and a great experience.

I stayed 3 nights in this hotel and couldn't tell you where this restaurant is located. The front desk people said "it's over there" and pointed. We wanted to eat there, but the non-plus attitude of the staff made me think it wasn't worth the effort to uncover its location. Maybe you'll do better.

After dinner, our host took us to the Driskill Bar for drinks. Lots of seating, lots of wood and dark- it was perfect. Great service by wait staff and bartenders. They referred us to CU 29 Cocktail Bar after they closed at midnight, which was around the corner.

Had a five course meal; spent over $300 for two; not impressed with any of the courses; they were all mediocre.

Dinner with 3 friends on Thanksgiving Day. The food was delicious. Main courses offered a nice selection; sides were served family style. No complaints in terms of food. Service was okay, but not at the level expected for the restaurant. Would definitely return and hope the service would step up a bit.

Outstanding Seared Halibut, spectacularly good service and wonderful atmosphere. It is a beautiful place!

Before visiting Austin I had heard that the Driskill was a beautiful hotel and great place to grab a drink. It was just around the corner from our hotel, so we stopped by and it was, in fact, a beautiful hotel. We asked about getting a drink, and were directed up to the oldest bar in Austin (so they said and we believed). Very nice sitting area--lots of cozy chairs and groupings. The drinks were very, very good. The kitchen does not open until 4, so before that you are limited to mixed nuts (and one other thing--I forget). We had the spicy fried brussels sprouts at our first visit and they were delicious. When our friends joined us the next day, we encouraged them to stop by for a drink and wound up spending two hours here. Very relaxing, nice place to chat with friends and have a few drinks.

My friends and I ordered appetizers, drinks, and desserts. I must say they were all delicious! The prices were reasonable and the staff was very hospitable. I highly recommend this place.

Very disappointed with our experience on Saturday night. Lovely room and food was good but the service was exceptionally slow, uncaring and unfriendly. Turned out to be a 4 hour dinner. Most of the time was spent waiting! We had a 5 star experience last year before it was taken over by the Hyatt. Too bad.

They are coasting..not the same as it used to be. Meal was not worth the high price. We were there for special anni dreary.

The menu is rather short and obviously points a customer toward ordering the 5 course or the 7 course meal. After ordering the 5 course meal, the salad was super with heirloom tomatoes, but the 2 entrees were more like tiny portions that were fixed very well, but hardly worth the price. The blackened snapper consisted of a piece of snapper about 3 inches long by 2 inches wide. The ribeye was even worse in that there were 4 small strips of meat that were about 1/2 inches by 3 inches which could hardly be distinguished as a main course. The wait staff was excellent and the dining area in this old hotel is magnificent with all its wooden decor. But I would suggest having your meal before going there for dinner as the portions are extremely small. Also, the valet parking is rather expensive at 18 dollars unless you get a stamp receipt in the restaurant but it is still 9.00. Even the valet said he does understand that the price of parking was rather high and nearly everyone had to ask again if that was the correct price for parking.

Had a great dinner with some new favorites. Service was a bit slow, but probably because there was a lot of us.

My husband surprised me with dinner here. The food was FABULOUS! We almost had the whole restaurant to ourselves. The creme brûlée was spectacular.

Great drink and snack menu. Have to try the Brussels. The bacon wrapped dates are just as good. Did not give a 5 because the snack menu was a little limited. Good value though. Great decor.

We ate here multiple time during our stay and everything we ordered was great. Kept going back since there were so many interesting choices we wanted to try.

We had an ok dinner. The venue is lovely but the service and food were only adequate. Don't need to return.

The restaurant at the Driskill Hotel is a great place to go for a good meal any time but if you have a special occasion to celebrate this is one of the best choices in Austin. The service and the atmosphere will enhance your experience and help to make your occasion the memorable evening that you are seeking.

Absolutely great atmosphere and ozzing with charm as in turn of the century motive and design. The food is excellent, way above average and the prices match. It's on the high side so be prepared for a high end experience on all levels.

Elegant dining room with great service and awesome food. The bar area is vibrant and busy. The two are separated by glass doors. The wine list is large and traditional cocktails were amazing. The menu changes daily. Everything thing is fresh and has a slightly Austin twist to it. We had a large group and plated steaks, amberjack, pork chops, and halibut. Everyone was happy with their meal. Desserts were fantastic. The chef's tasting menu with wine pairing looked delicious but you entire table must participate to enjoy that item.

The chefs and the staff are excellent., The meal was wonderfully prepared and the service is one expected at all fine dining restaurants. Thumbs up!

Love the history here and the 1886 Café was awesome for lunch with friends! The breads were amazing, the service was impeccable and the atmosphere was the best! The Cheese Soup was to die for....absolutely the best I have ever tasted!!! The Hotel staff was very accommodating while we wandered the hotel before lunch soaking up the atmosphere. Their bakery goodies are amazing and we did manage to get a croissant with our lunch before they all sold out. Cassandra was our server and she was fabulous and took good care of us! Loved this hotel restaurant and we would come back again (and again!).

Now THIS is a dining experience! at least three to five servers to cater to your every whim- exactly what it should be for the price. Food was delicious and immediately corrected when noted to not be what was ordered. Wine list was grand. Dining in the Grille is definitely the thing to do at this hotel !

This is not a cheap eats destination. It is however, an excellent dining option. If you stay at the Driskill, definitely make the effort to enjoy this restaurant.

One of the best dining experiences we have ever had. Three waiters, three hours and five courses of amazing. From the cheese board to dessert a delightful experience. This farm to table restaurant will not disappoint.

The Driskill is a grand old hotel and the dining toom is beautiful. The offer a pre fixe menu as well as a regular menu. I had the Filet and is was among the best I've had. My wife had a tomahawk chop, which was a sight to behold. Food and service wer both fanastic!

Visited on Christmas Day one of the few restaurants that was open. Amazing decor which harkens back to the 19th century. Make sure to visit the bar and enjoy the excellent food.

The Lounge atmosphere is old, classic with copper ceilings. Interesting cocktail choices and great staff. We then went to the dining room for an excellent three course meal. Unfortunately, the caesar salad was over dressed, but the rest of the meal was great.

Were staying at the Driskill and had plans to grab dinner at the restaurant. We had a few drinks in the bar outside before heading into the dining room. Upon walking in, we noticed 2 things: first, the dining room was pretty much empty. Second, the place SMELLED. Bad. Like someone had left old seafood out overnight. The meal itself was fine. When I say "fine", I mean someone in the kitchen went through the motions of making food that looked presentable and sounded like haute cuisine when described, but tasted like a novice prepared the meal. The staff also didn't really know what anything was. We really wanted it to be good...but for a few hundred bucks a person, the meal just was not worth it. Go somewhere else.

If you are staying at the Driskill in Austin, Texas, a historic hotel that dates to the 1880s, you must plan to have dinner at the Driskill's iconic restaurant, The Grill. Open from 5 to 9 Tuesday through Saturday, it is famous for being, among other things, the site of future President of the United States Lyndon Baines Johnson's first date with future wife Lady Bird. No, he didn't carve their names on the table a la Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe at Chicago's iconic Cape Cod Room. But it's part of the history of this grand restaurant whose food is superior to any chuckwagon fare. My wife and I started with bowls of lobster bisque, Chipotle shrimp with black cod mousseline and sweetened citrus butter, gem Caesar salad with shaved parmesan, chives, anchovy, Caesar dressing and sweet potato pistachio olive biscotti and Epi bread for two with Texas whiskey pate, olive tapenade and pimento cheese. For an entree, my wife chose Tournedos Rossini, a six-ounce filet mignon with foie gras, sauteed spinach, potato rosti and truffle sauce. I chose a 12-ounce ribeye steak with green peppercorn cafe au lait, crispy fries and dressed frisse greens. For dessert, we shared portions of banana pudding and panna cotta. But the chocolate cake, apple tart and spiced cheesecake looked good, too. I hope LBJ enjoyed his dining experience as much as we did.

Everything the kitchen could do wrong, it did— starting with a limited selection of wines & whiskey Barely warm sourdough bread finally arrived at the same time as my skimpy Driskill Greens salad with tired strips of cantaloupe on it (had wanted the Arugula & Fig salad but was told they were out of figs) We can’t recommend the mussels either - they were too petite Ordered medium rare rack of lamb Received a large piece to share but it was rare & not fragrant so we sent it back to cook some more & have some spices added When returned, it was quite good But the dish of tepid garlic potatoes also had to be returned for reheating In celebration of our anniversary & perhaps as an apology, the kitchen treated us to a chocolate cake dessert which was not bad but nothing to rave about Roy & Josmani, our servers, tried their best, as did hostess Lizbelle, but our disappointment was palpable Next time we go to the Driskill we will sit in the bar, enjoy the snacks & listen to the music, avoiding the Grill

We decided to get some light dinner at the Driskill Hotel Restaurant since the festivities on 6th street New Years eve started later than we expected. We were seduced into an appetizer by the buffalo cauliflower and into desert by the spices pear cheesecake. We stuck to salads for entrees which were huge and delicious. But we watched a lot of great things go by. Many from the prix fix menu which was a New Year's special I think. We also had tasty local beers and some very good cocktails from the bar.

While the action seemed to be at the bar outside, the Grill was quiet and reserved. This is a place for both foodies and those who are simply relaxing from a long trip with the kids. The wine list is good. The meals are prepared so meticulously that it appeared the chef was preparing for Vegas but just happens to be in Austin for the time being. Worth your time.

We stopped in here for a quick visit and had some good cocktails, appetizers and enjoyed the live music. It is a great space!

Great food, service, and ambience. ticked all the right boxes, so good times were had. The rib eye was amazing, succulent, tender, jucy which a had with a 2010 Chablis the perfect accompaniment. Waitstaff called us by our names which was a special touch.

I ordered the bone-in Wagyu ribeye. Bad steak, dry, tasteless, by itself $107.00. Rest of meal was okay. Onion soup average. Brussels sprouts good. Risotto and mashed potatoes fine. Desserts were chocolate cake and walnut torte were fine. Service good. 3 people, bill about $250.00. Steak was largest part of bill and not worth it. Bone-in? Nope. The bone was set on top of the meat, meat cut off the bone. Any good steakhouse puts the Driskill Grill to shame. They should be embarrassed.

I went to the Driskill for the first time to celebrate my birthday with friends. I was super excited to try it and see all the holiday decorations. The tree was gorgeous and there were two extremely helpful employees who were cheerful and helped me find my group with a smile! The evening went downhill from there. The service at the grill was at best mediocre. I think it was late and target wanted our party of 8 to leave. The check was not split for the 8 people, and it took a good 1/2 hour to sort it out. We got our cars, with and left. Well, I woke up at 1am sick as could be. I wasn't the only one. What a way to start my birthday! Then, the restaurant, which was supposed to charge me $90, charged me $90, then 2 days later, another $90.01. It was resolved after 24 hours but I had to call the bank, and my account overdrafted. Again, I wasn't the only one this happened to. I've still ultimately been charged $90.01, when I should have been charged $90, plus I overdrafted. This was just so disappointing. Next year, I'll have to find a different place that doesn't overcharge and make us sick, though I'll be sad to miss that tree!

Our golf trip has been going 21 years strong, and this year we had 11 golfers and we visited Austin, TX. We stayed at the Driskill Hotel so booked a group dinner for our arrival day dinner. Staff was great in accommodating our large group after we met up and had welcome drinks in the lounge. The food was great and I really liked the flank steak - as did many in outperforming group.

We have eaten here many times over the past 20 years. This meal was the least impressive. We had 2 tasting menus which we found all but one course very average-not up to previous tastings. One person ordered hallibut which was nicely presented but the fish was dry and lacked taste. We had excellent service and overall enjoyed the evening. Found the menu very limited-only the hallibut as a fish choice.

After a short wait we were treated to a great brunch. The service was fast and the selections were scrumptious and the portions were more than enough to share. I would definitely be back.

We hadn't been to the Driskill in a couple of years and were absolutely stunned again at how good it was. First off, we had an outstanding young and excellent waiter named Scott whose knowledge on the menu items was excellent. He is training to become a sommelier and his knowledge of the extensive wine list also excellent. The appetizers, salad, entrees and desserts were all first class and well prepared. The bar outside the restaurant is fairly energetic with a large crowd, music, and activity, but we really didn't hear much of that in the restaurant. You can have a quiet dinner for that special occasion. It is on the expensive side but well worth it for a special occasion. One of the most elegant dining opportunities in Austin.

Party of eight with a 7:00 PM reservation on a Saturday night. Arrived on time and were seated in the almost empty dining room. First thing I noticed was a foul odor. Waitress took our order and submitted it to the kitchen at 7:15, according to the chef. Food delivered at 9:20. Absolutely every dish was over cooked beyond recognition and stone cold. Example... my medium rare broiled salmon was so overcooked that it no longer looked like salmon. It was so overcooked that it had the consistency of a brick. The spaghetti squash was reduced to an unrecognizable mass of gelatinous goo. The various steaks ordered by our party were similarly over cooked yet stone cold. Can’t imagine what was done in the kitchen that resulted in this being served to a customer. This is unacceptable in any restaurant but particularly in one as expensive as The Driskill. Avoid at all costs.

We had an appetizer and margs trying to see if we wanted to stay for date night. The appetizer was so-so deep fried and the margs (14$) were no where near as good as the ones at Iron Cactus (12$). We decided to skip dinner.

We toured the beautiful lobby and then had great Texas pecan pie in the grille. Great place for a quiet after dinner dessert. Beautiful location, great coffee. Fun to go back to a luxurious history. Definitely will return.

Our party of 4 dined on Saturday evening. Started in the lounge in a comfortable seating area where the service and cocktails were perfect. In the restaurant we were seated in an elegant and private alcove. Lovely decor, low noise level and excellent service made for a great experience. The food was amazing - kale salad over goat cheese with pears - delicious! Also loved the cheese plate and steaks. Topped off the meal with an assortment of chocolate deserts that made us smile. Server had great wine knowledge and helped us find perfect ones to enhance the meal. This is a destination dining experience for foodies!

Had a marvelous lunch at The Driskill Hotel Grill recently in Austin, TX. "The Austin" is a real Texas-sized burger! 1/3 pound of Angus beef + beef brisket (an Austin specialty), grilled onions and cheese sauce -- proving once again that messy food is in fact the best food!

Despite being a home game weekend for the longhorns and expecting it to be busy, I ventured into the Driskill grill without reservations on a Friday night 7:30 PM. must be the starts were shinning upon me because we were seated inmediatelly. the atmosphere, the service were all Driskill quality to say superb. the food was also excellent, salmon cooked to perfection. To accompany our meal, I ordered a risotto with peas and seared baby greens. Excellent, excellent, excellent. cant wait to go back there again.

My first night in Austin, my fiance and I decided to try this restaurant based on the reviews and we weren't disappointed. The menu changes, based on what is in season and what the chef decides to create. My fiance had a steak that was to die for, I was disappointed for not having ordered the same thing lol. I ordered a lobster and prawn dish. My dish was small in comparison to the steak. Our waitress was great in service and recommendations. Also, there is an entrance on 7th street, we parked in a structure across from the 7th street entrance. There is a seating area and bar to relax in before the table is ready.

Lovely place for people watching, classy environment in a City that lacks any classy architecture. I had the Chicken Waffles and it was nice, I would definitely go again. It was a Sunday and I had to queue but it was only 20minutes and it was worth it. Food was OK, nothing special but it was OK, this was all about your surroundings.

Hubby and I went to the Driskill Grill for happy hour. It's what you want a classic Texas hotel to look like...steer heads mounted on the walls, copper ceiling, leather, etc. Drinks were very tasty and service was pretty good, considering it was a packed house and there seemed to be only two servers on the floor. We shared the meat and cheese plate, and a chicken flatbread. Both were very good. We enjoyed the atmosphere and will definitely be back the next time we're in Austin.

Pumkin bisque was ok, salad was good. We ordered the osso buco and ribeye. The osso was great with balsamic reduction was also great...the ribeye was a disappointment...it was thin and without much flavor. Compared to flemings...it would be a "C". The staff was really nice and brought an extra desert in honor of our anniversary. I would go again but not go for steaks...

I had lunch in the Driskill Restaurant with my family and we were looking forward to good food and and a nice quick lunch. The food was great and I couldn't complain about that but it already tooka long time to be able to order the food, then to get it and to pay as well. I became really annoyed because there obviously weren't many customers and I was "stucked" there for about 1:30h. I expected something better!

As we were staying at this wonderful hotel we thought it was only right to sample the food in the grill. This was always going to be our most expensive meal of the tour so was it going to be the best? Well actually it was very good for what we had. I had a 12 oz steak and it was delicious. Sides included Spinach with blue cheese and mesquite smoked pork belly Maldon sea salt frites and baby carrots. The spinach was like a meal in itself and delicious too. In fact it was lucky we didn’t have a starter as we struggled with the main course and I left about a quarter of the steak. Like I said was delicious maybe we should have left the sides. Would I come back? Yes but I would starve myself first. Unfortunately we didn’t take any photo’s

The Driskill Grill has big soft lounge style seating and dim lighting. I ordered the beef tacos, which were tasty and had an asian style sauce. The place was incredibly crowded but servers still managed to bring the check in a timely manner. The bar is interesting too, old pistols have been changed into lamps.

I visited mid-morning, so no wait. Best Eggs Benedict I've ever enjoyed. Server Eric was efficient & friendly. Hostess was charming.

First the good, We really like the overall atmosphere of the place and the service was top notch. Out waiter was very good and the entire staff was friendly. The steaks were very good, I had the Filet and my wife had the strip. Now the not so good, the Veggie plate my son had was not so good, to be fair it is a steak restaurant, but we expected more. We had 4 sides, all but one was below average. The Spinach with blue cheese was not very good, the potatoes were bland and the sautéed mushrooms were fairly good. The best side was the grilled Brussel sprouts, they were very good. Overall I expected a lot more for the money.

We dined at the Driskill Grill in March. It was during the South by Southwest music festival so the hotel and bar were very busy. However, when we stepped through the doors into the restaurant, it was a fine dining oasis! The decor of the restaurant is stylish, opulent and comfortable. I don't know how many seats they have, but it has an intimate feel. There was a little hiccup with our booking, we booked through a third party online booking site and it wasn't in their system, crisis was averted though and they seated us immediately. All the staff were friendly and super efficient. I would like to give a special mention to our waiter who was from London which was nice because we're British too. He was great and really looked after us very well indeed. The Sommelier was a young guy who is clearly passionate about wine. We chose a Tasting Menu and the accompanying wines matched to each dish, he took great trouble to tell us about each one and he even substituted one for a vintage Champagne. The food was excellent, each course was a delight and could not have been cooked better. We have dined in many 2 and 3 Michelin restaurants and this was right up there. I'm so surprised by other diners reviews on this site. We particularly enjoyed an appetiser of dates wrapped in crisp smoked bacon. Even though the restaurant was busy, we were put under no pressure to rush our meal so that they could use the table again that evening. We would definitely return to this restaurant again.

Actually, I had an unbelievably amazing dinner. I had the filet and I was so impressed with the presentation, taste and overall dinner. My friend asked can't have gluten, so after placing our order, the waiter, without even asking, delivered her toasted gluten free bread while everyone else was served a traditional roll. How thoughtful, and professional, especially since it was unsolicited. Well done!!

3 course dinner $35 for restaraunt week. Heirloom tomato bisque.. delicious! 6 ounce Wagu filet with creamed spinach and other veggies, awesome. Turtle cheesecake? Disappointed was only 2 bites. Chocolate cake, reminded me of a ding dong without filling and "dressed up". Good food, soso value.

Service was excellent, but food was only good. Ceaser salad was only fair, but anchovies were excellent. Prime Rib-eye was only okay. My wife thought the fish was good but not great. Dessert was excellent. We will try a different resturant next time for a special night in Austin. We did see the bar was busy and had music, maybe a good place for a drink.

When in Texas you expect a good steak - but this wasn't good at all. In short it was chewy and tasteless and came with fries that were so plastered with salt it was impossible to eat them. The worst meal we had during our week in Austin.

My boyfriend and I visited the Driskill Grill for July 4th this year. We were staying at the hotel and heard great things about this restaurant. When we entered the dining area, we were instantly greeted by a host who was fantastic. You could tell he really loved his job, he went above and beyond to ensure our satisfaction and enhance our dining experience. We were served an amuse bouche immediately which was some sort of watermelon drink which was amazing. We enjoyed a nice bottle of Malbec and had 2 of the best steaks we have ever had. My filet mignon was aged 14 days and cooked to perfection, and my boyfriend's ribeye was aged 30 days. He literally said it was the best steak he has ever had, and that says A LOT because he is a native Texan! Our wait staff was very attentive and professional, but had a great sense of humor too! Overall, this was a restaurant I would love to come back to and dine at, and definitely recommend to anyone looking for a romantic date spot.

If you want to top off your Austin experience with wonderful food, great service, and a gorgeous room, be sure to go to the Driskill Grill. Our food was excellent, and the ambience was fantastic. highly recommended.

The Driskill was for a long time my favorite special event restaurant, but alas, no more. The setting is lovely, with dark woodwork and pleasant silver and linens, but the menu has diminished to be limited, not very exciting, vastly overpriced, and the service average. The wine selections are large, but bring your wallet. We opted for the tasting menu, since we were not imprssed by the mere 4 selections of mains. (One was roast beef, one fish, one osso bucco, which you can buy frozen easily.) Our first course, a carrot, was a third the length of a golf club pencil. C'mon!!! Were they kidding? Two waiters, who we discovered were there for that weekend only, cicled the room offering bread repeatedly. Our meat course was a very small, yet delicious, lamb chop. There seems to be little focus on outstanding foods in a restaurant that once was capable of so much more. I've since been for a large group lunch, which was fine.

From the tin ceiling tiles, to the wood finish throughout the establishment, to the circular bar which adorns one side of the room, this is a sensory overload! We loved the handcrafted cocktails, custom made to order, and enjoyed bacon wrapped dates and hand-cut french fries with chipotle ketchup as a part of our evening while listening to live music and enjoyed the delightful atmosphere!

The food is actually excellent and so is the service, so please understand that this would have rated as a 5 if it hadn't been for the price and for a credit card overcharge. When the cost-benefit relationship is factored in, I'm more at a 3 for this particular overall experience. The meal for 2 was $175, plus the bar bill, and gratuity ... plus I paid separately for valet parking. That's kind of pricey for an evening and, although the food was excellent, the portions were not very large. Another reason I have rated this restaurant at a 3 is because, despite an already hefty bill, this restaurant charged my credit card approximately $40 more than the ticket I signed. I checked my copy of the charge slip and noted that the amount I had agreed to was all inclusive of the meal, bar bill, 20% gratuity, and sales tax. So I called and complained. I received a phone call the next day telling me that it would be looked into and resolved, but that was several days ago and I have not heard back yet. In conclusion, I would have rated this restaurant as a 5 if it offered more reasonable prices and/or larger portions and if the billing had been accurate.

I absolutely love the Driskill. When I first went, I was struck with how dark it was. But now it’s grown on me. The restaurant is gorgeously decorated with top class service. WiFi, wheelchair access, perfect for date night - I wouldn’t recommend it for kids. No view or anything... but a great wine list. A little on the pricey side - treat yourself! Valet is available and there is street parking. No dedicated parking lot that I know of.

We had a good dinner, food and service were good. It is very traditional, and the outside bar with live music aims a different crowd that comes to the restaurant. Good option if you like traditional restaurants.

If you want to back in time to a classic restaurant then this is absolutely the place to eat. I ate here with a group of 30 friends and we had a wonderful time. The food was at the top of my list for taste, presentation and amount.

Stayed at another hotel but walked across the street to have breakfast twice at this beautiful restored bakery. Had our Aunt & cousin from L.A. and they loved it too. Had Texas shaped waffles w. fresh fruit and whipped cream. They loved the cinnamon buns, they were huge and smelled so good.

I was staying at the hotel for my birthday and wanted to grab dinner before we went to a show that night. It was right before 6 pm and I was surprised that the dining room was totally empty considering how crowded the bar area was that night. I wasn't surprised that they were able to seat us without a reservation, but we were on a really tight time crunch and I was rather concerned that a fancy restaurant might have a hard time serving us in the 30 minutes that we had. I explained our dilemma to the waiter and he did a great job at pointing out menu items that would be fast for the kitchen to make. We not only received our food very quickly, but they still did a great job cooking the scallops spot on and plating my husband's swordfish beautifully. It was quite expensive, as you'd expect from an upscale place, but it was totally worth it for the stellar service and delicious food. I think we were in and out in 25 minutes. I was very impressed.

Beautiful period room. Gracious servers who make everything perfect. Excellent choices ... antelope, braised bacon, wild boar with a very (not sweet) root beer braise and sauce. Very enjoyable evening.

We did not stay here but ate in the cafe. The lobby is so historic and beautiful. Well worth a visit!!

The Driskill is a beautiful, historic establishment. Dinner was so delicious! The presentation was lovely! Our waitress was helpful & fun! I would, highly, recommend dinner, in the dining room, perhaps followed by a drink at the bar, when the music starts.

Had a special event dinner at the Driskill Grill last night. Despite the fact that the hotel was slammed with multiple holiday parties, the service was outstanding from the valet to the bartenders to the best rib eye I've ever eaten. The servers were attendant and knowledgeable but also friendly and unobtrusive. I look forward to returning. My only regret - no room for dessert.

In my review of the hotel, I mentioned the high quality meeting catering. Even if you're not attending meetings, the hotel restaurant and bar area is worth trying for the variety and preparation. The cucumber wrapped greens as well as the grilled watermelon with pecans are both very good salad choices. The cheese soup is nice. I'd recommend the Texas Barbecue, especially the Elgin sausage, baby back ribs, coleslaw and green beans. Also, there's live entertainment most nights. While 6th Street can be pretty loud in spots, this selection of entertainers are good and not overly loud.

From standing at the host stand to getting a drink, very long wait - food was disappointing too - only did dinner, would not go back - lots of options real close I liked better

No real dislikes other than it was very busy. Beautiful building in downtown Austin across the street from the downtown Omni hotel where I was attending a conference.

After trying to find the best place to eat for my boyfriend's birthday, we stumbled upon this place and decided to make reservations. Going in was a breeze as there was a table set aside for us by the window. After looking the menu over, we decided to do the 7 course tasting menu with the wine pairing from the sommalier. Absolutely everything included in the tasting menu was fabulous and well worth the price but the wine pairing by the somm was the highlight of the meal. Though we have no allergies, we were asked if there were any allergies they should know about before preparing our food which was a nice thought. The service itself was very professional, very knowledgeable, and overall outstanding. The food was from all different cuisines and the steak course was far better than even Perini Ranch. Having grown-up in Spain, my boyfriend even commented the course where we had the mussels reminded him of home. I noticed some reviews mentioned the food was not hot-- our food was warm but cool enough to eat. I guess other reviewers were looking for the straight out of the microwave temperature. I couldn't recommend this restaurant or the tasting menu enough.

The Driskill Hotel Restaurant is in a beautiful historic setting. The food top rate & the service cannot be beaten. It is a place you go for a very special occasion & you will never be disappointed. The wine list is superb.special

This used to be one of the best restaurants in the city, with excellent service and top-notch cuisine. Those days are long behind us now. The Driskill Grill is, unfortunately, one of those legacy restaurants. Because it is in a beautiful setting, and used to be fantastic, it is still sitting on the laurels earned long ago. My recommendation would be to skip this place entirely and walk a block away to the Roaring Fork in the Stephen F. Austin Intercontinental Hotel, or even netter, Congress on Congress Ave. and 2nd St. (owned by a Drisill Grill alumnus). The only thing worthwhile about this place is the proximity to the Driskill Bar, which is excellent. Skip the restaurant, and drink your dinner there.

Every time I have a meal here, I'm always amazed. The wine pairings were amazing and the food is really innovative - if I could sum it up in a word. The food is composed with a variety of sweet, savory and aromatic elements that I love - often with a twist or play that I couldn't have expected. Top choice, thanks Yosmany and Liz!

I've dined at some outstanding restaurants in my life and looked forward to another great experience. This did not quite meet my expectations. This was a $125.00 per person dinner not counting the automatic 20% tip. The servers were great and deserved every bit of the tip; however, the meal portions were ridiculously small with barely enough to enjoy the flavors of each dish. The presentation for each dish was lovely. Three wine pairings were included. I don't recall exactly what the first dish consisted of but I do recall that it measured 1" cubed. The carrot salad had two 4" long roasted carrots. The bisque was roughly 1/4 cup and tepid in temperature. This resulted in eating an unmelted chunk of blue cheese. We all chose the venison tenderloin. Once again, the serving was quite small. Since I often measure my food at home, I can honestly say that there was no more than 3 ounces of meat served -- and probably closer to 2.5 oz. This was served with approximately two fingerling potatoes and one cauliflower floweret. Dessert was another 1" cubed piece of gingerbread accompanied by 1/8 of a brandied pear and 1/2 tablespoon of ice cream. Not impressed.

Charming, beautiful and historic bar in the very famous Driskill Hotel. We ate twice in the bar (the steak restaurant is no longer open). Our server the first evening, Louis, was amazing---was efficient and personable, took all 8 drink orders and food orders without writing anything down and delivered everything perfectly! The pasta dish, barbeque pork sliders, huge pretzel, chicken chalupas, salads were all reportedly delicious. I had the very special wagyu beef.burger---tho at $27 once is enough! The other food was much more reasonably priced. All 8 drinks were perfect. We all enjoyed our evening there so much my husband and I returned the next evening with another group of friends---again loved the ambience, and enjoyed the food, but service wasn't quite the same. We were all at a convention---I would definitely recommend the Driskill Bar as a "must" for visitors! Read the history before going---very interesting!

The Driskill Grill is the fine dinning choice at the beautiful & historic Driskill Hotel in downtown Austin, Texas. Hotel valet parking is available. The service is excellent, and the setting is beautiful (with very comfortable, spacious seating, and a pleasant ambiance that's not overly noisy). One has to walk-through the VERY lively & noisy (& fun!!) Driskill bar/lounge area to enter the restaurant. Everything single food item that our large party tried was great: Margaritas (VERY good in Austin) Cosmopolitan - yum Blackberry smash (my favorite!!) - a delicious, well-balanced bourbon drink! French onion soup - a rich, tasty broth house Cesar salad - perfect! wedge salad w/ bibb lettuce & buttermilk dressing - HIGHLY recommended! Salmon entree - light, fresh, perfectly cooked Grouper (pan-seared) - fresh fish of the day - perfectly prepared 10 ounce grilled Ribeye steak - an absolutely delicious steak!! grilled baby vegetables side dish - fresh & tasty chocolate terrine dessert - very satisfying apple tatin semi-freddo - light & nice All-in-all, no matter where you're from, you'll be quite pleased with the varied menu of deliciously prepared food choices at the Driskill Grill. Whether you're staying at The Driskill Hotel or not, The Driskill Grill is DEFINITELY worth a visit for dinner in Austin!!

The hotel has 2 restaurants, the 1886 Cafe and their main dining room restaurant, the historic Driskill Grill. The Grill has 'stories to tell' that would fascinate any history buff. From former President Lyndon Johnson's first date at the hotel with his future wife (Lady Bird) to every Texas governor has held his Inaugural Ball in the main ballroom since it was built in 1886 to the fact that Jesse Driskill (the original owner and builder) lost the hotel to his brother-in-law in a poker game two years after it was built. But you come for the food, the ambience, and the impeccable service - all of which are top rated (they have won more awards than any other restaurant in Austin, to prove it.) Even though they are somewhat famous for their steaks and will game, my wife and I enjoy ordering a few of their appetizers with a nice glass (or two) of wine - from their very extensive wine list. It is highly recommended that you get reservations, at least a day or two in advance. Having traveled the world and eaten at scores of 5 star and Michelin rated restaurants, I would have to say the service is what stands out. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable of all the dishes, how they are prepared, and are willing to give insights to assure your experience is a memorable one. They have that perfect balance of not being a pest yet having a 5th sense of watching your body movements to know when you need them to come to the table. Obviously, the Grill is not for everyone, as the menu is certainly heavy on game, as well as pricey. But everyone should experience the Driskill Grill once in their lifetime in my opinion. Maybe you will make it one of your go-to places for special occasions, as we have.

It is always a challenge at a banquet to get a truly great dinner. The number of rubber chicken dinners I have been to defies explanation and the logistics in the kitchen to get it right is understandably challenging. In addition to the Driskill being a warm and historic venue, the meal was excellent. I mean really good. I had a fish entree (seemed risky in the heart of Texas) but the combination of flavors, the perfect texture and attention to detail in timing in cooking the fish was extraordinary. Desserts were to die for and the wine was excellent. Our group numbered about 25. Service was very very good and attentive.

We enjoyed wonderful reasonably priced breakfasts. Dinner was excellent but costly. The steak was magnificent. Cooked to perfection. Great salad and sides. Good for special occasions.

My boyfriend and I came here for our last dinner in Austin and to have a romantic evening out. First off I will say the place is beautiful!! I did love the atmosphere so I was excited about that. However, absolutely not worth the amount of money we spent on that dinner! We spent $300 on dinner and I was still hungry when we left. Service: not good. We did the chefs tasting and it took two hours for the first three extremely small plates to come out. We ended up having to tell our waiter that we had plans and we needed to leave if he would please bring out all the dishes and the check. Food: food was ok/eh. Nothing was great. The best option on the chefs tasting was the filet mignon and I wish we just went there and got that instead of doing the whole terrible chefs tasting. Overall, I will never come back here.

If you are looking for an excellent meal for a decent price then check out this dining experience. The desserts are to die for!! Beautiful hotel as well.

Went there for lunch with my family, we wanted to come back for dinned but we didn't because of our daughter not feeling soo good. Very good welcome and beautiful hotel and ambient. And the food ismreally high quality and not expensive! Soup with shrimps extremely awesome, then I took red fish and my wife mexican food, everything served perfectly and in a nice way too. Asking for some bread and immediately served with breads and warm sliced bread! A must to go, and if you can, try to stay in the hotel (but I think that It's expensive...)

I love going to historic hotels for a drink when I visit a city -- I was disappointed in the Driskill. The updated décor kind of covered up any historic features, and there really wasn't anything special about it -- it was like being in any downtown hotel bar. Service was good.

Limited selection on the menu. Both had fish which was very good. Ambience was very pleasing. Service was good, but young and a little inexperienced. $50 per person for food and $25 per person for two drinks.

This is an absolutely lovely place to eat. The service is great and the food is really good , but it’s very expensive and the portions are small. We split a lobster bisque, I had the salmon and it was a decent sized portion. My side dish was good . My husband had halibut and it was smaller or appeared smaller in size than the salmon. He liked his side dish . We split a dessert, the Driskill Chocolate Cake that was yummy. We just felt the portion size of the main dishes were small . We both had water to drink. We were staying at the Driskill hotel so we charged it to the room. The hotel is beautiful.

The surroundings were definitely the highlight. This is a beautiful old building which has been well maintained & restored. The food & service at the grill were average. Many things on the menu were not available until after 5pm, we were there at 4pm.

I've had dinner here at least a half dozen times. Service was always excellent and prompt, the food was good, but not exceptional. Maybe I have a spoiled palate, but I like to be impressed when I go out for "fine dining".

Terrible service, not accommodating, not worth visiting with so many other amazing places with terrific food and service in Austin. The story: My sister wanted to treat me to a nice meal at the Driskill during our visit to Austin. She's a UT Austin alum and showed me around town before suggesting the Driskill. She knows I'm a foodie and thought this might be a nice place to get some good southern service and hospitality with good food. I wanted a good steak and she was looking forward to some quail or salmon. Well, the empty restaurant at dinner time should have clued me onto the fact that there might be a problem with this restaurant, but I thought, okay, at least we have a pick of the tables. We sat and got our menus after 7 minutes a bit of a wait, but not terrible. And then it went downhill. Because of dietary restrictions my sister inquired whether there was any pork in the stuffing (though not mentioned on the menu) and after checking with the chef, the server said they had previously prepared the quail stuffing with bacon. (So why that detail is not on the menu is beyond me & poor menu prep.) She wanted a salad and something else while I wanted the tasting menu. He informed me that everyone had to get the tasting menu if one person was to order it and that was that. I asked him to give us a minute (usually meant to hint that we need to privately discuss the details), but he would not leave and I had to repeat myself three times. Still he did not give us our space and he was rude as he stood there with an attitude. Now, I've been to my share of five star and Michelin rates restaurants all over the world, but I've never been treated with such rudeness by staff as I try to make a decision on what to order. Though I wanted the tasting menu, since we couldn't switch out the beef for quail or salmon or something else that my sister would have to get if we were to have to both choose that tasting menu, we just needed a few moments to think. Combined with the fact server was unwilling to take the hint to leave after asking for a moment three times, nor ask management about adjusting rules for one person ordering a tasting menu and another person ordering a la carte and seemed to scoff at my not getting wine with my meal, I had just about had enough. He then said that if she didn't order the tasting menu that she'd be siting for at least an hour before the entrees would come out. I don't know why if I were getting apps and a salad (tasting menu) and she were also going to be getting apps and a salad (non tasting menu) that she would have to wait and just watch me eat? He still didn't leave after I asked for a moment to talk with my sister - alone- and so I decided to leave. He lost out on a tip, especially with no other customers at least until that point in the evening, and the Driskill will get a negative review. We ended up going to another restaurant and had an amazing time. With the best, original food.

My husband and I had a fabulous dinner at the Driskill Grill. The hotel that houses it is a beautiful old grande dame, and the restaurant has a cozy, comfortable vibe. We had a friendly, competent, and attentive server who helped us make our selections. I highly recommend the Forbidden Rice Bowl and the Halibut, both of which were visually appealing and absolutely delicious. After dinner, we stopped by the bar to listen to some terrific live music. Our experience was so enjoyable that we decided to return the following evening for a second wonderful meal.

Took my group there to eat and it was a unique experience for all. Sure had good service and the food was well presented.

This restaurant and the adjoining bar exude old school luxury. From the custom carpeting to the beautiful dark wood paneling and tin (looking at least) ceilings to the art pieces and the whimsical touches - you know you are in for an experience. So glad to see such care and attention to detail in such a marvelous place. You can practically feel the history.

Great food and atmosphere. We had the five course tasting menu for $79, with wine paring for $49. Each course was good and the selected wines (with modest 2 oz. pours) were of equal quality and well selected. Others in the group ordered ala carte and were also pleased. Some of the appetizers from the adjacent Driskill Bar were more interesting than the ones on the menu, but the staff seemed happy to bring them into the Grill, if you asked.

I stayed as a youth at the Driskill when President Johnson held court at the Driskill. I was a swimmer on the traveling circuit and stood amazed at the incredible and venerable establishment. I still feel the way about the building and many of the employees try to hold up the grand style by making service a part of their mantra. But there are more than a few dodgy workers that take away from the ambience. But, when I sat down in the Grill and ordered the Cheese Soup, the memories of times gone by wafted through the room and I was delighted. I did not eat the Cheese Soup back in the 1950"s at the hotel, but I ate it in the old Tea Room at the Downtown Neiman Marcus. You don't lose special memories. My mother wanted her boys to go shopping with her, we did not want to go, but when she threw in the cheese soup then I was there in a "New York Minute." That was the way it was on Monday of this week. It was creamy, spicy and divine. So for no other reason, go for the soup!!!!!

Great lay out and live music with quiet places to get away for a discussion. True historical Texas feel with great service and a part of the Driskill Hotel. Good bar food and wines. It’s where Texas history walked and and drank.

If you are dining at the Driskill, they provide Valet parking which is nice since the downtown traffic is heavy or their is a parking garage on the sidestreet of the hotel which cost $10.00 to park. The Grill is nicely appointed and the staff very gracious, informative and attentive in the correct way, (didn't overdo), The restaurant is small so the tables are close together making it hard to have any privacy for sharing conversation. The food was wonderful. We had the lamb chops and steaks which were cooked to perfection. The desserts were okay but so small, it was hardly worth getting. This is a very very old grand hotel, very lovely. We had an enjoyable dinner. It is perfect for celebrating a special occasion. It is expensive. Be ready to spend around $100.00 per plate not including tips just so you know. We were glad we went and will go again.

There were 12 of us for dinner for a special family event. We had a semi-private area. The restaurant is beautiful and elegant looking. We had no issues with noise even though the restaurant was full. Dinner was delicious and I heard no issues with anyone's appetizers or dinner. The pre-dinner amuse bouche was very flavorful. Three things that I would comment specifically on - dinner took several hours, which is not necessarily a bad thing but there was a lot of 'dead' time between courses. The supporting wait staff made some errors with what people ordered and a couple of people were missed on the drink orders. Neither of these things were significant but for the cost / environment I wouldn't expect any issues. Lastly, while my dinner was delicious I think the cost could be reduced by 20% to be a fairer value. I had the boar chops appetizer and the sauce with it was phenomenal. I also had the beets and they were delicious but did not have a wow factor like the boar sauce. I had the 10oz ribeye and it was cooked the way I like it and had a nice flavor. About a palm sized amount of it was fat though. Pricey at $56.00. Service was pretty good but our waiter had a number of other tables as well as ours which kept him on the run all evening.

Stopped in the bar for a cocktail late afternoon - beautiful old bar, lot of dark wood, felt like a men's club, very comfortable. The drinks were so-so, but the truffle popcorn and the beef jerky (made on-premise) were both spectacular - the popcorn alone would be worth the trip. Our waitress was great - it's the kind of place you could comfortable sit and drink the afternoon away (although it is a little pricey)

The place we intended to eat wasn't open at lunch time so we tried the Driskill Grill. The staff was very polite and the burger was fantastic. Their fries are also very impressive and delivered with a nice presentation. The only complaint I might have is that the actual room itself was pretty cramped and not easy to navigate without getting on your toes.

My husband had a conference here so we decided to try the Grill for dinner. You have to walk through the bar to get to the restaurant- a bit weird to me. We were warmly greeted and seated immediately. Our service was good, no complaints there. The food was average. I had the short ribs and they had a lot of fat on them. My husband had the mussels. We tried the famous 1886 chocolate cake. It was good but not outstanding. Overall, nice place to dine and enjoy but choose carefully and don’t have too high of an expectation on the food.

You gotta stop in here if in downtown Austin. The history is just fantastic. It's very fun to soak up the atmosphere. Have a drink at the bar, write a country song, feel the history - you can't beat the Driskill for a kick back in time. We loved it!

The ambiance is very conservative, just as you would expect from the type of hotel it is. The service is excellent but never intrusive. And the food is extraordinary. The Amuse Bouche was a Tomato Consumme that was crystal clear and was full of serious tomato flavor. The first thing I thought of was how did they do this? Then the entrees came and although my duck was a little rubbery, the ribeye and short ribs were absolutely fantastic. I think the ribeye was the most tender piece of meat I've ever eaten. They apparently have their own dry aging facility on premise. Well, it's working. This is a lovely place to get away from all the noise and excitement on 6th St, especially if that's not really your thing. I highly recommend it.

We had a group of 25 and this room suited us very well. Fixed menu Filet and Fish (grouper in our case) The environment was fine and decorated nicely, it felt a bit confined for my taste. More similar to a meeting room, no windows and only 1 door. Everyone was pleased with their meal, the grouper was fresh and tasty. The filet was not quite melt in your mouth but very good. Cold soup was yummy, fresh bread delicious. Servers were attentive.

The food in the Driskill was very good, we both had the same Appetiser which was a Lobster Salad and the same Entree which was a Filet Mignon on Smoky Grits, delicious. Small choice of menu but very good! Good value wine list, we had a French Malbec which was extremely good, recommended by our waiter. For dessert, I had a beautiful Ice Cream and my husband had a Chocolate Bloc all good.

Great atmosphere - a real treat for a northerner. The service was outstanding. Before or after dinner go to the bar and lounge for some great Texas entertainment. Also take a walk around the hotel - this is where Lyndon Johnson met Lady Bird.

The food is suburb, but more than that, the hotel is a landmark. Leave yourself plenty of time for drinks in the lobby of the original hotel (not the "new" portion added about 100 years ago).

We had heard about the historic hotel so stopped in to enjoy the bar area. Beautiful western paintings on the walls, cow hide table tops, six shooters mounted on the walls, fabulous place to see and spend time in. Their cheese soup was "souper"!! Stop in.

The service by Erin was perfect. We didn't stay at the hotel, but wanted to eat somewhere nice. We were just walking 6th street and looking in all the restaurants until we saw this one. You could eat outdoors, so we were sold. I ordered a sandwich with chicken and cheese, I forgot what it was called, but I'm still craving it. My side was a fruit cup, which I've never had offered with dinner, but it was excellent. The food was so tasty, we went back the next day for breakfast and sampled some of their delicious pasty. The hotel is gorgeous inside, I would like to stay here next time I'm in Austin.

Our family spent December 28-January 2 in Austin. We shared many wonderful meals, moments, and memories. One less so was going to the Driskill Hotel on January 1 for their legendary Bloody Mary bar. I checked via email and phone a number of times prior to our visit to make sure the hotel was still doing this event. I was assured that the bloody Mary bar would be open on New Year's Day. I was surprised and disappointed when we arrived at the hotel at noon, to discover they had no plans for doing the Bloody Mary bar. I noticed that the event was still listed on the website, even though it did not happen. I must wonder how many other disappointed people there were.

Staff was great, very attentive though they weren't very busy. Every dish we had was excellent. The cocktails were ok, but the food outshone them by far. It is an expensive place, but good for a special occasion. The decor in the restaurant is charming.

Ate lunch in this iconic hotel. The burger, goat cheese salad and the crab salad were delicious. The decor is very old Texas. The service was great. We even got to talk to the chef about the food and restaurant. Very nice experience.

My wife and I could not have made a better choice of restaurant to enjoy our anniversary dinner. The room was elegant but comfortable. Service was impeccable, even announcing when they arrived with a tray of service pieces, that they were resetting our table to prepare for the entree service! The waitstaff were attentive and responsive. My wife order beet salad and roasted squash bisque. Both were perfect. I ordered duck breast which was cooked to my specifications and appropriately seasoned. For dessert, creme brulee ended our meal. A beautiful and sweet ending topped with whipped cream and raspberries. We knew that we could not find a better meal anywhere in Austin.

Lovely bar full of true Texas charm. The specialty drinks all have a Texas flare or name. Friendly waitresses. Enjoyable place to relax after work and enjoy a drink.

Everytime we come to Austin, we have to stop at the 1836 Driskell Grill for some pecan pancakes...and a pastry or two...and more. It is the best breakfast in Austin. My son and his wife make sure they join us when we tell them our plans. Highly recommend

As the host of a family gathering of close friends and children and grandson I have never been as embarrassed as I was Saturday night Nov 9,2019. I have enjoyed many fine dining evenings before at the Grill and everyone was anticipating a beautiful fine dining experience based upon prior visits . My first warning should have been when I got a call at 6:45 to confirm a 7 pm reservation. Sure we’re coming and are on the way. When we arrived the restaurant was nearly empty and this was a sell out home football weekend. We used to love the big round table that seated 10 ( we were a party of 8) but were told by Kevin the host that remodeling took out that table as well as table clothes. From there things went downhill. Service was slow and it took 2 hours to get our main courses which were a disaster. Waygu NY Strip was cold and so tough it was hard to cut with a steak knife($56.00) . A cold lobster tail add-on at $38 and Salmon so overcooked it looked like whitefish were also delivered. When the chef came out it was a dialogue of what’s what’s wrong as I went through each plate of food and his defensive attitude wilted like week old lettuce. This lead to the eventual arrival of the food and beverage manager who properly acknowledged problems with the restaurant and suggested we try again in the future to allow time for improvements. He had only been on the job for a month. Take this manager at his word and wait a year before trying what should be the crown jewel of Austin fine dining.

I sat down in thd first quarter of the New England Baltimore game. Had to go to the bar for my drink, asked got a menu, got it 30 minutes later. It's halfway through the 4th quarter and I've not been asked if I want to order. The one waitress I did flag down said she'd let my waitress know. It's too late to order food as I have a show. The food looks and smells great.

Driskill Grill: Thanksgiving at $89/person was disappointing. Good soup and veggies, it just went downhill from there. Inedible pork belly, a slice of turkey roll? (unrecognizable), and a tiny and not tasty dessert block of something. Nice service, lovely room. So disappointing to spend $158 each for three after wine = $474. At least we enjoyed the wine. They missed the mark on Thanksgiving 2016. On the mezzanine, we saw a huge buffet spread of food and a big beautiful turkey being sliced; it was for their employees dinner, with pumpkin tarts and carrot cake, looked delicious. They ate better than we did.

This hotel and bar is so pretty and unique. It was a perfect place to have drinks Christmas Eve with my husband. We weren't as pleased with the band this year as we were last year but it's better than having no music at all. I would like to go back every year during Christmas time

We really enjoyed breakfast, good coffee and a regional style of eggs, the bread pudding french toast was excellent. We went back for dinner, and it was fine but not outstanding.

The restaurant came highly recommended from a family member so we were looking forward to it. The service was good and our waiter was very attentive. After placing our order unfortunately we waited for a good 45 minutes maybe longer before we got our food. They were not that busy because it was later in the evening. I ordered a $50 steak, medium rare which was not even close to being cooked correctly. Very medium well! I ate it but for one of the few times in my life left some of it on my plate. My wife ordered red snapper I believe which was good. I would never saying anything but clearly they were watching (which is a good thing) because they brought over complimentary wine for my wife and offered me another drink and free desserts which we turned down. All very nice gestures. But in spending a couple a hundred bucks I just expected a little more from my meal. I wouldn't mind giving it another shot but my wife is not interested in returning.

Old west luxury enveloped us as we moved from the bar to the dinning room. The gracious staff helped us feel comfortable throughout the 2 1/2 hour dinner. They eagerly and easily dealt with one diet restriction and accommodated all of our other needs. The five course Thanksgiving meal was filling and replete with the right holiday flavors. The Kale salad started us off crisply and paved the way to the beet and goat cheese terrine. The rich pork belly, perfectly prepared, came next. I opted for the turkey roulade while my daughter had the black-rimmed, red interior beef tenderloin. Finally the Driskill version of a pumpkin pie escorted us to the end of our dinner. Can't wait to get back to try their regular menu.

I've eaten all over the world, but I've never seen kangaroo on the menu - so I HAD to try it. It was delicious. No, it didn't taste like chicken. More like a beef tenderloin. Perfectly juicy and flavorful. Must try

I visited this restaurant recently with a business colleague who lives in the Austin area and always wanted to eat at the Driskill; one of the finer hotels in downtown Austin. We went on a busy Saturday night and after a brief snafu with the reservations got seated. The table service was performed by a team of 3 and all were professional and attentive. Prices were reasonable. So far so good. We both ordered from the ala carte menu and selected the Ribeye from a short list of 7 or 8 entrees. This cut was not the normal ribeye, rather it loked more like a filet mignon, but we were asured this was the ribeye. Although cooked as ordered, I noticed that my steak had an excessive amout of gristle, such that the steak knife struggled to penetrate. Normally I would not have said anything, but since my table mate noticed the same thing, I mentoned this to the waiter. He explained that this was due to to 'dry aging process'. Okay... Other than the 'surprise meat' this was a very enjoyable meal and I would recommend this restaurant to even the most critical diner.

We made reservations for the Grill for Thanksgiving. Easily one of the best meals I have ever had. A set menu, with family style sides with your entree (turkey, beef tenderloin, red snapper OR pork), and the opportunity to have wine pairings. We feasted on butternut squash bisque, salad with pear, pork belly, the entree, and a bombe-style dessert. Excellent service, quiet elengance, and every mouthful a delight.

Very classic restaurant with outstanding service and good food. Very good wine list. Good choice for a special occasion or taking out clients.

The Bar did not show up on trip advisor but chose to stay in there. Piano bar with lots of historics in there. had brussel sprout appetizer. I will go back for more plus flat bread little pizza looking things : ) Didnt want anything else for dinner. Go to the bar. The Grill might be good too??

I've had my fair share of hotel burgers, and normally, just say ho hum, but these, wow. Fresh grass fed beef, organic I think, grilled to order, and fries, either potato or sweet potato, all delicious.

Because the downstairs restaurant is under renovation, we were forced to meet our friends at the grill, upstairs. My breakfast with eggs and bacon was good but the two who ordered the goat cheese salad were not happy. My daughter who ordered the turkey sandwich was most unhappy so left the entire sandwich on the plate, uneaten. Won't meet our friends there again.

What a great experience! Sean was one of the best waiters we’ve ever had! The food was great - each suggested by Sean. From the steak tartare to the fig and green salad to the tournedos rossini steak - each recommendation was spot on!!! He even gave us a sample of wine before we ordered as well as a sample of the sorbet dessert which was so good!!! When we left, Sean gave us a list of great live MyDISH locations to check out. Just can’t say enough about what an amazing experience it was. Definitely recommend this to everyone!!

I strong suggest that whether you live in Austin or you are a tourist, visiting downtown, that you have to at least go late night to the restaurant and have coffee and the creme brulee. In years past I have also attended a few Christmas holiday parties at the Driscoll and the catering, venue and staff were exceptional. The Driskill Hotel and Restaurant are Austin icons from an era gone by. The hotel is beautifully maintained and the food is simply fantastic.

The Driscoll is an island of Texas in the center of Aiustin. The restaurant is fairly formal and offers a good menu and standard fine dining rates. Service is impeccable, excellent wine list.

Food is great. I ordered the steak. Costly but a great place to entertain clients or business guest.

Staying at the Driskill & the flyer in my room says that bar has nite time happy hour (9-11) so I go to the bar and they say I have the wrong Bar (It is the right bar) They just have failed to remove the flyer from the room. Terrible error

Charming, romantic, great drinks. We were there before happy hour and the bar was pretty full but as soon as 4:00 rolled around every seat was take. I’d recommend skipping happy hour for the few$ you save. Downside they don’t even give you a peanut with your drinks.

We travelled all day and were staying at the Driskill. We were tired and the Grill room was only four floors from our room. We dined early, and did not have any trouble getting a table. We shared the mussels in wine sauce. Each of us had a salad, and for a main course we had the filet. Without a doubt, all aspects of our dining experience were exceptional. The dining room has a warm, rich decor. The service was professional, and the food was very good. Next time in Austin we will be sure to dine here again.

Check out the bar/lounge on the second floor. Incredible history throughout and the bartenders are fantastic. We really enjoyed our short visit and can't wait to grab another specialty cocktail there.

The Driskill Grill has long been a "special occasion" restaurant for my family. It is quite expensive, but the food is always delicious and the service and ambience enjoyable. As usual on our recent visit, the food was outstanding, our waiter efficient and friendly; however, the atmosphere was not what we have come to expect. The bar adjacent to the restaurant was crowded and extremely noisy, and the door between the bar and the restaurant was left open, evidently on purpose as it was secured open with a door jamb. Even though we were seated at a table 2/3 of the way to the back of the room, conversation was difficult. This noise level is to be expected at a casual Mexican, Italian, or "hamburger joint" restaurant, but it is not what we desire in an atmosphere of fine dining. I would have rated the Driskill Grill a 5 were it not for the annoyance of the noise, which had the effect of making us hurry through our meal. Please, Driskill Grill, at least shut the door between the restaurant and the bar.

Make sure you allow enough time to look around the lobby etc of this beautiful historic hotel. The dining room is on the upper floor and food, presentation and service was excellent. Recommend reservations.

This is our "special event" restaurant, where we go for a leisurely, delicious dinner. The service is impeccable - never intrusive, always attentive. The wine list is extensive, and excellent. The ambiance is in keeping with the understated elegance of the hotel. And the food is always superb. We usually order the chef's special of the day, and have never been disappointed.

The restaurant has the same look and feel of the hotel which was nice and luxurious. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the service was good (one of our waiters did seem to "hover" a little, though). We chose to eat from the five-course menu in which the Chef prepares his/her specialties for the day. The amuse-bouche and the first two courses were good but not inspiring. The last three courses: Chilean Sea Bass, Sirloin Steak, and Peach Dessert were exquisite. I also chose to have the wine pairing with the five courses. The wine, again, was good, but not great. Still, the setting and the service were excellent and I wouldn't mind eating in such a lovely place again. It is very pricey, though. Four two five-course menus and one wine pairing, we paid close to $200. We probably won't do that again.

We managed to slip into this red velvet wonderland in the midst of the Austin Film Festival, when the bar outside was crawling with posers and wannabe auteurs. You'd never have known that from inside the dining room, which was an oasis of calm and class. There's a storied history to the place you can feel the moment you slip into a plush corner table and start to imagine the wheeling-dealing that once went on inside the rich paneled walls adorned with thick curtains. Our meal was properly paced and delicious -- this is the place to go if you're a steak eater, but unlike so many meat-friendly restaurants, there's also a good variety of chicken and fish entrees. The server was pleasant and helpful, with good information about the hotel and city. The bar's worth checking out, too, when it's not inundated by festivalgoers of one type or another. You won't see too many six-shooter lamps elsewhere, even in Texas.

The food is fantastic and it comes with a great experience inside an Austin, Texas, landmark. Drinks by the bar are fun, too. Enjoy it. Definitely a place to remember.

My lady friend and I chose the Driskill Hotel as a destination site to celebrate New Years Eve. We had dinner in the Driskill Grill in the hotel. Being New Years Eve, we knew there would be a fixed menu with a few choices. We were disappointed I with the dinner, 125.00 per person, and unbelievably small portions. The first course was a raw oyster with a little caviar, the oyster was warm, and decidedly unpleasent. The second course was a tough little shrimp on some tired greens. I chose Pork Belly for my dinner and while it was quite good, it was about 1 1/2 inch square. Dessert was ok, not great. The service was excellent and they have an adequate wine list. I'll try the Grill again when I can order from the menu, and hope it's better.

We made reservations, they're needed... Food and service were wonderful. Enjoyed the steak as well as the sides. Well worth it to stop here for a relaxing dinner, take in the atmosphere..

We went here for a Christmas Eve prix fixe dinner, the food was delicious and the service was outstanding, our server (Brittany and Patrick) were at the top of their game and made our evening sonething very special, it was also my wifes birthday and they treated as a very special guest and that very much appreciated, we will certainly dine here again when in Austin.

The Driskill Grill hits all the high points. The dining room is a quiet and elegant setting with tables spaced for easy conversation. We celebrated the 90th birthday of my wife's mother with 12 people in attendance, a challenge under any circumstances. Roy and his wait staff handled the orders impeccably and gracefully served with the outstanding meal. What particularly stood out was the pacing of the courses. So often in U.S. restaurants, one course is delivered barely after the preceding one is finished. The Driskill takes a more European approach, allowing diners to savor the fine meal with time between courses for discourse and digestion. And the food! The chef takes a largely farm to table approach with mostly local sourced food items. The real star was the prime aged Wagyu beef, perhaps the most flavorful and tender available, though the local stripped bass and lamb were huge hits as well. The chef discovered the joy of perfectly selected and cooked pork belly which shows up in a variety of places throughout the menu. Salads were also rave worthy. Make no mistake the Driskill is expensive fine dining but it is a restaurant the more than merits the cost. HINT: Do not let the noisy bar area dissuade you. Once you are in the dining room everything is much quieter and more refined.

It was almost everything I wanted. The only thing that surprised me was how limited the menu was. I was expecting a few more choices. We both ended up having the Delmonico steak and it was really was as sublime as I expected a properly cooked steak in a legendary Texas restaurant to be. The staff were so sweet & attentive. Even the other patrons were nice. We had asked a waiter for some tips about where to go after dinner for upscale cocktails because the college side of 6th Street wasn't our style and the delightful folks at the next table weighed in with recommendations. I was pleasantly surprised at how dynamic the happy hour was. Had I known, we would have arrived early and enjoyed a pre-dinner cocktail and live music.

Would definitely go back. Solid meal, historic setting. We had the lamb which was really well cooked and not too expensive. Their beef looked really good as well. Kind of a dark restaurant, but nice for a romantic dinner for a special evening.

very attentive service and you can mix and match the excellent menu and adjust prices. great seating areas and extensive menu

After hearing what a great restaurant this was, we went. I can't imagine where the glowing reviews come from... Food was ordinary at best. But breathtakingly expensive! The cheapest thing on the menu was a $28 chunk of scorched cow muscle. All 5 oz of it. With nothing. Unless you call 1/2 oz of sauce significant. And $12 (small ordinary) salad. Completely ordinary. Made one look for a salt shaker to give it some flavor. We all had different entrées and all had the same assessment. I think people give good reviews so they don't feel like they have been hooked. We have no problem with pricey restaurants but it sure better be a memorable experience. This was really a non-event. Yes, service was good, late-1800's decor was interesting, it was quiet (maybe because the place was empty - on Saturday night at 8. Huh?). liquor was priced like the food ($$). Overall rating: dismal. We wouldn't go back if somebody else was paying for it.

The menu has something for everyone. Great wine list and the staff is so friendly and accommodating. Very relaxing atmosphere.

Overall average rating considering price and experience. $240 price for 4, no drinks, no dessert, no appetizers , one side. Signature Caesar Salad was small and lacking only a hint of Caesar flavor. Acorn squash soup delicious.Brussels sprouts were excellent. Duck and petite ribeye were good. 10 oz ribeye was ordered Medium well, was served medium rare. Flavor good, but some of the steak too tough. This is a beautiful old hotel but there's too many great restaurants in Austin to pay that price for average food and service.
Good brunch but nothing special
I love the Driskill. The hotel and the bar area is such a fun spot to visit. That said, brunch here was very blah. The menu items were very normal. All of which I could've gotten at a diner. Nothing special. Drinks were cheap though which is worth something. But service was crazy slow. We were a group of 14 but when we arrive the place was near empty. It took forever to get orders taken, get our food, get the bill and pay the bill. I'd recommend The Driskill bar for drinks but skip the brunch.
