Were in the area and looking for someplace for happy hour and luckily found The East Burn. Easy to find, really pleasant staff and great food. We did the cheeseburger with fries and it's the best we've had in Portland and Portland does a lot of great cheeseburgers. I have no question that the rest of the menu is just as good. Large beer selection. Just looks like a fun place that serves really good food. Nothing fancy, just right.

I enjoyed the dinner I had here sometime last fall so I decided to take my mom here for Mother's Day for brunch hoping to avoid the long waits at some of the other popular brunch spots. When I walked in I was relieved to see that there were about 4 open tables... however the hostess asked if we had a reservation and when I said no, she sat us at the bar. Which would've been fine except for the fact I had my 62 year old mom who has some back issues with me and there were plenty of open tables. Believe me if I would've thought reservations were available for brunch, I would've made them, but I figured this place was like 99.9% of the other places that didn't take brunch reservations. I asked the hostess about all of the open tables and she said they had to save them for reservations which I could understand except for the fact that 1-2 of the tables remained completely empty the whole hour we were there. Despite that the food was good and the service at the bar was prompt. I had the breakfast sandwich which was delicious although it had an excessive amount of potatoes involved (on the sandwich and on the side) and my mom had the classic eggs, bacon and toast that she seemed to enjoy. They were also serving some cute little samplers of brunch shots that looked tasty.

Just a great big space and between the patio, side street tables and breezy main space, I didn't feel nervous at all. Staff was lovely and food was fresh and delicious. And that breakfast cocktail flight! You really could just hand out and do those all day...

My girlfriends and I met at EastBurn for happy hour. The food was all home made and excellent, including the mac n cheese, focacia with kale n cheese spread, savory cheesecake served with bread and a balsamic reduction, portobello burger, fries, and soup. There was a good selection of beers on tap, and several of us enjoyed the hop skip n go naked drink. The back patio had some fun tables with swings for seats. And the servers were busy but very friendly and helpful. We'll definitely be back!

This was my first dinner in Portland and I loved it. I was there in time for their happy hour specials, which were wonderful. I tried the fried calamari and a portobello sandwich, and both were phenomenal. I remember the calamari having a wonderful sauce drizzled over it that was different than I have had before and it was delightful. The atmosphere was also nice, casual lighting and creative artwork on the walls. It also had a large patio incase you enjoy outdoor dinning.

We have been to The EastBurn Pub more times in the last 6-7 years than any place in Portland. The food is always good and beer selection is diverse with 19 taps and 2 bars. The owner is often there working with staff serving food or bussing tables. The chef is creative and talented with the menu. Prices are very reasonable and there are specials that are even more so. Look at their web site for Monday and Tuesday fun. We were there on August 4th to celebrate our 40th Anniversary and the owner sat and gabbed after supplied a bottle of Champagne from his personal reserve. We also had an appetizer the chef made special for us. Then we both had Beef Wellington that was an amazing taste treat. After dinner there was an evening of standup comedy in the cellar bar. So if you want an excellent cheeseburger and a pint, or a nice dinner with wine this place excels. Brunch is also super as well as $2 mimosa with you brunch. A nice patio and outside seating too.

My family was looking for a fun place to play trivia for the night. We definitely found it. They had a great girl doing trivia in the basement. Lots of fun! We also had some of there craft beers. We enjoyed the IPA, nitro and stout. We also had a couple sandwiches that were amazing. We had just come to play and had no idea that we were also going to be enjoying great food. The über sandwich and hamburger were wonderful. The the trinity fries are a MUST!!! Fries that are russet, sweet fries with leek fries too. It comes with tomato aioli. It was a sweet surprise of a night.

This was a great find for late(ish) dining on the east side of Portland. We like good food, but if we've just come out of a movie at 9pm, not much is open. The menu here isn't extensive, but had some real gems on it. I enjoyed the beet salad and the meatloaf (!) which was certainly not *my* mother's recipe! What made it extra nice on this quiet Tuesday or Wednesday night (can't recall) was the ever-changing group of musicians playing Irish fiddle tunes over in a corner. It wasn't a big performance, not even a real Céilidh (music party), just a step above a practice session, but very nice. We look forward to heading there again soon.

Easter brunch brought out the Portlandia weird (lots of zombies in this restaurant this morning), but the food was great! Had the lobster Benedict, elk biscuits & gravy, caprese Benedict & scramble special - all very tasty..... The winner of the morning was the cinnamon roll (w/ bacon bits and drunken raisens) and $2 mimosas, however! Good service, funky atmosphere & we would go back! The back covered patio was a treat (despite weird hanging stuff from the ceiling) & better for our purposes compared to the front/inside tavern feel.... 2 mimosas each, entrees & extra roll for $55. Very pleased....& the SUN was out!

My husband and I went for the free Monday night stand up comedy show. We decided to eat dinner there. It was great. I got the chicken with succotash. Chicken was boneless, but very tender. The corn muffin was fabulous. Sort of a cross between corn bread and spoon bread. Deliciously moist. Husband loved his crab Mac and cheese. Our friendly waiter was from Czechoslovakia - so an expert on beer by birth-and not surprisingly had good tips on beer selection. And attentive to boot. The comedians were hilarious. Very memorable evening.

The photo on the website of the basket chairs got me interested but as it turns out they are in the window right on the street and there are only 3 of them. I tried the Jack Pumpkin Chocolate Porter and it was superb -- extremely smooth and flavorful. My french dip was fine as were the fries. The server was helpful and kind, and easily available. My dinner companion was pleased with the good bits of steak in the steak salad. This is not a 5 star review simply because the whole place seemed a bit dumpy. That doesn't bother me, but I probably wouldn't take anyone their who is impressed with upscale pubs. According to the waitress it's been there for about 20 years (shows how much I know having just found it) and was a biker hangout previous to that. There also a tap room downstairs but didn't go down to inspect. I'll be more than happy to return and hope the beer is just as good.

We went here for dinner on a Friday night. Surprisingly we didn't have to wait long and the service and the food was good. The menu was eclectic and the prices are very reasonable! Sit in the patio where tables have swings! Yes swing seats! Very cool and hip east side pub. Live music was setting up as we were leaving :/ . Next time!

I was impressed by the "funky" decor in the restaurant. We were seated quickly and I was overwhelmed by the menu and sights.( I had just gotten there, so jet lag had not quite set in!) I chose the Bacon Cheeseburger-- which is different for me as I seldom eat red meat. I was not disappointed when it came out. In my opinion, I think the menu needs a couple of stars next to this item to promote it's goodness. The burger arrived looking hot and delicious. The burger was delightfully loaded with all the toppings , but the onions were sheer heaven- I was afraid the tomatoes might overpower everything, but they blended in extremely well and added that little zip to the other vegetables. I bit in ( couldn't fit it all in) and took a huge bite, wanting to make sure that I got all the tastes. I knew I had a winner when I felt the juice dribble down the side of my mouth and the explosion of joy hit my tastebuds. The fries were perfect.......hot and crispy on the outside and tender inside.....like the fries of your dreams! Lightly salted and just enough grease to handle the burger. If you like messy burgers...this is the one! Service was polite and prompt....not overly obtrusive, probably could have used a drop in to check on drinks during meal. They have an ENORMOUS selection of hand crafted microbrews and whisky that they rotate daily. They post the names on the"specials" board. I had to laugh because they had numbers posted next to them and I thought that it was the price...instead it was the potency of the brew or whisky! This was astounding....and I imagine quite fun for those that partake. This is a must do, even if for a lunch, because of the freshness of foods, brews and whisky. They have many nightly specials and activities which covered many interests. Go and let yourself have fun!

I recently ended up at EastBurn because my good friends were playing live music on a Friday night. We had a great time! I love the bowl of mixed fries, the calamari was pretty tasty too. Plenty of room for seating, and the band sounded great. I really loved that they had a Nitro Stout on tap. Delicious!

Welcoming & Winning establishment with Tasty, varied menu. Avocado & toast w/Pico was delicious. They offer a yummy house made chicken apple sausage. Indoor & outdoor seating w/wonderful music, EXCELLENT SERVICE, & FAIR prices! Don't miss this Foodie spot if you're in Portland.

Relaxed ambiance, we had a table with swing chairs. Good, innovative, simple cooking with portions that are sized to be eaten not to require a doggy bag. We had Diamond Steelhead fillet and Pork Brisket. Both dishes highly recommended. For desert a moist but crumbly chocolate brownie served with ice cream and a fruit gelee. Highly recommended.

I've reviewed EastBurn before but after a number of visits we've always left delighted at both the food and service. Consistently really good food at reasonable prices has made EastBurn a go to.

Only $2.50 for a pint of craft beer (or cider) all day on Tuesday. During happy hour, a few of their regular offerings are discounted, like my choice the Uber sandwich. I've never had pork loin on a sandwich before, but all the condiments paired really well with it. Great service, and there is a patio for sunny days.

Stopped in with a friend for dinner and a beer, and had a great time. We sat out on the enclosed porch and the only complaint I have is that we did not get a fire table or swinging seat, all were taken. The food was delicious, the crab mac and cheese is awesome. Came on a Tuesday so the half-priced drinks were a +. While we relaxed, each table had trivial pursuit, we had a blast trying to see how much history we could remember. Would go back often if I lived in Portland.

There are a lot of restaurants in this area of SE Burnside, but this is one I keep going back to. It's casual and offers good food and drinks at reasonable prices. Back patio when good weather and funky hanging wicker chairs in front - check it out.

Get the Uber Sandwich: pork loin, potato pancake, scallion sour cream, caramelized onions, bourbon-apple chutney, potato bun. What a great concoction! Lovely server was so laid back....nice beer selection. Oh yeah...also had the Trinity Fries: hand cut russets, sweet potato and fried leeks, roasted tomato aioli. Very good side. Trivial Pursuit at all the tables, and Skee Ball down in the lower level tap room. Fun!

Typically on holiday weekends the wait time in Portland for breakfast exceeds an hour and I'm never willing to wait. At East Burn we waited about 20 minutes and had an excellent breakfast with all the typical salmon and Portland favorites with a tasteful EB twist.

Went to The Eastburn with family for a Sunday brunch. The wait was good- 10minutes to get seated. After getting seated in the back patio area, the service was slow for both drinks and food. We ordered an assortment of food. Flavor wise the food was good. The portion sizes were small for the prices and I am not an over-eater. I had biscuits and gray - 1 spit small biscuit and small scoop of gravy (not a side order) The atmosphere is eclectic and fun. With tip we spend $160 for 5 people- 7 tap drinks and 5 meals.

You should know by now that I can't visit Portland without having the Uber sandwich here (house smoked pork tenderloin shaved & stacked on a potato pancake with scallion sour cream, caramelized onions, and bourbon-apple chutney on a toasted potato bun). They have an exceptional beer list to go with a relaxed/fun vibe. Our server, Andrew C., was awesomely friendly and helpful - to the point that when I asked for a hazy beer, he went off-list and brought me something from their then-closed downstairs tap. Lovely!

Initially I gazed the menu and thought I had found the "unicorn" (great brunch without the wait). I will tell you the food was all I hoped it would be and more. However the Bloody Mary and the service was, well, terrible. Items that summarize the experience: Bar/restaurant was almost empty and it took 15 minutes to get 3 Bloody Mary's. None of the drinks contained condiments ordered The waitress treated us like we were an inconvenience. Ordered coffee and no refills were provided. When we over charged for the bloody Mary's the waitress initially told me that is how it rang up and I would be charged the higher amount. So all in all no "unicorn" ....

We went to East Burn to attend the 4th annual Buckman-Kerns Brewfest. Neither the Oregonian Newspaper or the event posters stated a time. We figured since East Burn was open for lunch we would try our luck after noon. We had some delicious fries there. Trinity fries are a mixture of hand-cut russets, sweet potatoes, topped with fried leeks accompanied by roasted tomato aioli. They were freshly fried and not greasy. We were indeed in time to try a few beers. I had a Buckman Wild Rice Pilsner while my wife had a Natian Everyday IPA. Gosh they were good tasting beers. Since the fries were a good size amount and we were not driving we decided to have another. Next I tried the Migration PDX Kolsch and my better half had the Cascade Scarlet Fever IPA. These were good as well. I think I liked the Buckman better just because I was intrigued with wild rice in a beer. All the beers went well with the fries. It was certainly a pleasant way to spend the afternoon. I liked the idea of trying several different Portland beers in one place. Different beers were served upstairs while several others were served downstairs. Several Breweries were represented Cascade, Natian, Buckman, Migration, Coalition, Basecamp, Lucky Lab, and Burnside. Our server was quick and very attentive but not intrusive.

We had dinner here before a musical across the street. The food was very good. I had a Portobello Sandwich which came with a potato pancake, scallion sour cream, caramelized onions, potato bun, fries Husband enjoyed fresh soft pretzels with cheese sauce. There were singles, families and couples.

This is a great place in East Portland. The service was excellent and we all enjoyed the food and drinks. I would definitely go back again.

food is wonderful, especially mac and cheese entrée. sandwiches are innovative and filling. servers are attentive and friendly. noise level in main dining area can be overwhelming if they have a live band present.

Went here for brunch and it was quite good, my partner ordered smoked beef hash with yukon potatoes, while I had their eggs and grain dish. both with eggs how you like them. It was suprising how good it was, we enjoyed our meal. Recommended for brunch! I could see how it's a cool spot for drinks later in the evening too.

We ate here twice in August and September 2015. I had their cheeseburger the first time, which was excellent, and their vegetarian sandwich the second time. It was a grilled portobello mushroom on a potato pancake. Not quite as good as the burger, but it was tasty. Husband had salmon and steelhead trout, and our daughter had the pork chop and Beef Wellington. They both raved about their entrees. Eastburn serves a signature side dish called Trinity Fries, which are french fried russet and sweet potatoes topped with thin strings of fried leeks and served with a side of roasted tomato aioli. Those made it worth the trip! The waitstaff are knowledgeable about the food and the 9 or so beers on tap. My husband is more of a connoisseur than I am; I like a good, hoppy IPA or double IPA; he likes all kinds. They had something to make us both happy. Not too pricey; entrees run around $20 or less; sandwiches were $13. I love it when I go to a restaurant twice and find it just as good the second time.

In walkable area to motel. Very nice staff. Different menu but super good. I had the in house veggie burger and trinity fries. Super good! 4 of us ate for $75, so price point was good. They have rotating taps which was nice. We sat on the back patio area and they had swings for chairs!! Food came quickly. Neat overall experience

We had just flown into PDX and needed to EAT! Although parking was a bit of a challenge - this was one of the best meals we had during our 4 night visit to Portland. Local craft beers/ales were $6 a pint. I tried a better chardonnay for $9. Hubby devoured his French Dip sandwich ($16) that was served with enough fries for 3 people. I opted for the asparagus Eggs Benedict ($15) and it was outstanding. No charge for extra Hallandale sauce. Served on top of crispy polenta cakes - I still salivate when I think of it. Highly recommend.

This is the second time I have been here. The first time it was just OK. This time, things were worse. The restaurant did not measure up. The bathrooms were NASTY. I'm glad that I just had to pee. There is no way I would have sat down. The rest of the place was not much better as far as cleanliness. Wait staff.... take a shower and try a washing machine for your clothing. The food was at best just OK. The burger I had was not that great and the other people in my group were not very pleased with their meals. I was disappointed. I will not be back

My sister chose this place as the after wedding brunch and while I was not going to go originally, I had to get my brother's tux to the groom or groomsmen that live in Portland. I'm glad I did. The brioche french toast was the second best french toast I have had in my lifetime and I LOVE french toast. The backroom was very cute and the kids loved the swing chairs. I would love to return when I can relax and try out their dinner menu. Or just order more french toast.

Went on a Sunday afternoon with a group of friends. Great happy hour and the atmosphere was wonderful. We even had kids in our group and they loved it! Will be back for some adult time in the tap room for sure!

EastBurn has the best breakfast sandwiches in the world and a great patio space. They have fire pit tables and swing chairs (not to mention $2 mimosas). There's never a line and the brunch staff is incredibly friendly. They also have great dinner meals as well, and a really fun rewards program.

The only reason I'm not giving this place five stars is the sound. I have been there a few times now, later in the evening, and when the music gets started it's very difficult to have any kind of relaxed conversation if you're sitting in the front room. The food is lovely. Try the beet salad. The brussel sprouts. The artichokes. This is gourmet stuff at non-gourmet prices. Even their house wine was lovely. As was our waitress. A comfortable neighborhood eatery.

The staff make this place really great. I was dining solo, so I sat at the bar for dinner. The bartender was super friendly and chatty, and one of the kitchen staff (shift completed or day off) sat next to me. It says a lot about the place when the staff want to hang out there when they’re not working. Bar wall “movie” was an archaeological dig, which was an odd choice, but interesting at the same time. The reason for the lower star rating was that my beet Reuben tasted like hard, canned beets were dumped on top of the normal sauerkraut. It wasn’t good, but the fries it came with were fantastic.

We went on a Sunday afternoon around 2 and it wasn't crowded. The beer selection was fair, the $2 mimosas were champagne heavy. The trinity fries were excellent and our server was willing to get us an appetizer portion even though it wasn't on the menu. The lobster and crawfish Benedict was selected by two members of the family and was good, big not super memorable. The kids menu was fine and they were willing to make a sandwich cold and plain for my picky 5 year old. The food and atmosphere are fine, but the real appeal for us was the service.

A friend lives a few blocks away so we went here a bite. Right away this place has great atmosphere. They were quick to get us seated and the service was prompt. Ended up ordering the spinach salad with chicken. Others had an array of menu choices all of which I heard rave reviews. Would love to go back next time I'm in town.

John was great! Had an amazing meal! Bloody are amazing ! Even surprised my mother with a birthday desert ! Lives the cocktail of the month. And got the special Benedict ! Will be back!

Had an amazing uber sandwich with great fries and a superb Porter to top it off for my kid's bd celebration! Great happy hour too.

Our daughter, who lives in Portland, really likes EastBurn so we went there for brunch on Easter Sunday. All three of our entrees were good to excellent. My wife loved her huevos rancheros,my daughter enjoyed her caprese benedict, and I savored my crabcake benedict. EastBurn offers refills of morning cocktails for only $2-3.00. The service was friendly, efficient, and professional.

we've been meaning to come here and finally did with friends yesterday for brunch....there were 9 of us and we were seated quickly inside..caroline was the staffperson for our large group, and she was fabulous.....i had a mimosa, and my partner had the traditional bloody mary...next, i had the veggie patty sub salad...it was so delicious and made of beets/kale/grain....my partner had the crawfish cakes with potato, and one pancake too....our friends had drinks/food and were very happy with everything....be sure to tip big during these challenging times...thx so much

I had to bring my older son here to experience the Uber sandwich. Happy hour made it more of a deal... The sandwich was perfection (pork medallion, potato pancake, bourbon apple chutney, caramelized onion, scallion sour cream, fresh cut fries) and all the better if you have a sour beer to go with it. Basket swinging chairs adds to the fun. Sam S was our very happy and friendly server. Love it!
What a great surprise
Went to the Monday comedy show, but had dinner at the restaurant prior to going downstairs to the tap room. Got a great dinner, with great food and wonderful service. The short ribs melted in your mouth, the chicken was delicious. Great appetizes as well. Priced very reasonable. Oh the comedy show downstairs was filled with funny local talented folks too.
