This place is such a memorable spot due to the history and architecture represented. The drinks are pricey and you can forget about sitting down unless you want to pay handsomely but its still well worth a visit to gaze at the decor and to catch a burlesque performance and watch a silent movie. The staff aren't particularly friendly and the bouncer may lecture you on your shoes (which is silly once you get in and see what other people are wearing) but it is better to dress up than down for this place. I would definitely take an out-of-towner here for a unique experience.

This place has become more and more popular and so is getting harder to get in, but it should be a must for any visitor to the area. Try to get in early (7PM) when they open on Saturdays, or by 5 PM on weekdays. They now charge a $10 cover with no re-entry, which sucks. The drinks are okay, but the food is expensive. I would recommend having a drink, walking around and admiring the décor and multiple old B&W movie screens, watch a burlesque show and then go somewhere else to eat. There is essentially no seating unless you plunk down at least $50!

I read in the "Fluid" literary series here last week, and I have to say the Edison is on a completely different plane than any establishment I've ever been in before. The atmosphere is incredible, the drinks are good, and the food is top notch. Everything is pricey, but hey what do you expect for the best night club in all of Los Angeles? I will definitely be going back to the Edison next time I am in LA.

A friend and I went to The Edison on a Saturday night a few weeks ago and let's just say we won't be going back. When we entered we paid the cover charge and were asked if we wanted a table - we said no, as we were planning to just have bar food. We were told to ask if we wanted one later, and assumed this was just so that they could monitor who was where and their table availability, as in any restaurant. But once inside, we found that the bar had no seats, and so we had a look around for tables. While most tables had a 'reserved' sign on them, those in a small area (which seemed unpopular as it was quite narrow and away from the rest of the place) did not, so when we ordered we told our bartender we would be taking our food there, and this was apparently okay with them. However, after taking our plates there and starting to eat, we were ordered out of that area by a very rude manager of some kind. It turned out that it was typically reserved for larger parties ("I mean, if you want to give us a thousand dollars you can stay" he said mockingly), and as he watched us leave (as if escorting criminals off the premises) he didn't hide the fact that he thought we'd removed a rope across the entrance (which we certainly had not). In fact, there was no sign or any way to tell it was reserved; we honestly thought it just wasn't popular enough to have tables reserved. A terrible way to treat your customers, I'm afraid, even if you think they're arrogant enough to go waltzing past ropes or notices. Feeling slightly annoyed, we finished our (small) meal standing up at the bar, and when we finally decided to take the load off and asked about a table - note that there appeared to be NO seats other than at reserved tables or right outside the restroom - we discovered that in order to get a table we would need to spend over $50. Why weren't we told this when we first arrived? Or by the bartenders (who later claimed that the rules kept changing) when we asked if the un-reserved tables were okay? Or in a sign somewhere? Seriously bad customer communication, and given that the place was almost empty when we arrived someone could surely have taken the time to explain this to us, rather than letting us go in blind. In the end we *had* spent just over $50, but we didn't bother with a table, instead getting out of there as soon as we finished our drinks.

There was live music. the band was playing really good. people were dancing. the atmosphere was so nice. ı loved it. the coctails were also very good.

I was there on november 2014. I was wearing torn jeans ,a shirt, a leather jacket nice leather shoes. They did not let me in.I have nothing else to comment. Keep in mind their dress code otherwise you won't get in. No torn jeans in edison. Good shoes a shirt and so on.

Great ambiance, I love that the girls are all dressed up in fabulous sequenced flapper outfits and that the men are all in suits and hats. I had an ok drink mixed with absinthe. The appetizers were fine, nothing extraordinary. But the feel and tone of the place makes up for that.

Walk in down the side alley that doesn’t have any clear signage, if any at all, and transport back into the prohibition era. Some guests even dress in flapper style attire, groups get really into it. If you want a table you need a reservation. And with the table there is a $50 minimum per person PLUS a $10 entry fee. I think if you get a table and spend $50/person you shouldn’t have to pay a cover, but that’s just my opinion. The inside of the club is expansive and beautiful. With cabaret dancers putting on a 12 min show every hour starting at 945pm the night flies by. The menu I found reasonable in price for a nice place but expect a $16 price tag for a cocktail. Hitting the $50 min per person was no problem at all. Service is a bit slow but the waitresses are very nice. Timequake drink was amazing! Also MUST TRY warm chocolate chip cookies served with ice cream. We ordered 2 orders for 4 of us and we couldn’t finish the 2nd order, they are so rich, but delicious. We had a lot of fun, and would recommend for a different type of night out, that is not a budget type of night.

My clubbing days are long gone but this place reminded me of trendy, hidden clubs I used to visit in NYC. It's different, cool, and I"m guessing a place only locals would visit. If you have out of town friends who don't get out much and are open minded (some of their shows are slightly "risque") this is one great way to impress them. I thought the food was ok (that shouldn't be the main reason you are going), but the dark, cool ambiance and shows are a must see!

The food left a little to be desired so don't go if you are hungry but the atmosphere and the overall feel of this place is legit. You feel like you found a hidden gem in the city.. Definitely go

I had so much fun here, I am not a huge nightclub person so loved the shots and entertainment and clientele - very 'mingly' but not in a 'mwah mwah darling kind of way', more a 'yeah sure feel free to have one of my sliders kind of way' which is great - cos i love my burgers. Seriously though folks, guaranteed great night in LA...enjoy.

Really cool space- totally immersive 1920's/steampunky/copper/brick/steel vibe. Very cool feel, and super high ceilings. Apparently was a former power plant so there are tons of pipes and things all around. Really well designed. Nice big very high stage in the middle for bands, and plenty of bars easily accessible. Had a bit of trouble finding it (as did my Uber driver who dropped me three blocks away!) - it is down an alley called Harlem Place.

What a great place to host a party for friends, celebrate a special occasion or try somewhere new. Loved coming down the long staircase to see a band playing, a large bar and cool seating.

We recently held a event at The Edison and it was one of the most stunning parties I've had the privilege to attend. The staff is incredible and the location is extraordinary! I cannot say enough good things about our experience there. From the food, to the decor to the music. Wonderful! I highly recommend!

This place is reminiscent of a roaring 20's speakeasy in that you walk down a dirty looking alleyway to a non-descript entrance to access The Edison. Upon paying the cover you decend down a long flight of stairs into a strikingly beautiful bar/lounge with very tall ceilings, "Edison" style lighting, and a lot of pre WW2 charm. The Edison has two separate bar areas, one off the stairs and another in the back near the stage where cabaret dancers perform every so often. While the performers are nowhere near professional cabaret dancer level, they are quite good and entertaining and add to the amazing ambiance. In a room that is used for VIP tables they have old power generating equipment on display, as this was actually a power plant over 100 years ago. To me, more interesting than the show or the drinks is this portion as this you can get, literally nowhere else in Los Angeles. It is like drinking in a museum, albeit a loud and exciting one. The restrooms are clean and the drinks are good, although be warned their signature drinks tend to be on the sweet side, almost sickeningly so. If you do not like sweet, stick to beer, or something more traditional like a vodka tonic, or shots which are good pours. Parking is surprisingly good here. While the building does not have free parking, the area does have many pay lots, and we found a free space only 2 blocks away. Also this location is a few minutes walk from the Metro Red and Purple lines if you are live in Korea Town, Hollywood, or North Hollywood. All in all a good time, and will definitely return.

The Edison is one of the coolest places ive ever been. The atmosphere is amazing. The staff is awesome and actually remembers your name. The music is phenomenal. Definitely get a reservation to best enjoy the night.

This is one the sexiest restaurants in LA. We've done date night and birthday dinners. The atmosphere is an impeccable combination of dark, sexy, masculine with a touch of feminine burlesque. A bunch of little dark corners, eclectic leather bound library chairs, unique spaces, tables with gears, and rivets, a steam engine and view of an underground tunnel. Dress code. Some nights 3 burlesque shows run at the top of the hour on stage. Artisan drinks at the bar. Dance floor. Food is good gastro-pub style. Awesome date night. Read up on the history of the place - interesting. Make SURE you check the schedule on their website!! They are not open to the public every night. And you should make reservations. If your party is large you might have to prepay. Don't miss it, I promise you won't regret it!

I finally made it down there after hearing great things about it. Really funky. Great food and drinks Only down side is if you do not get a good table, it's a bit of a pain to eat off an end table

My wife, daughter and I had heard how good this place is before we left New Zealand and while on vacation we just had to dress up and go into downtown Los Angeles to experience 1920's style and charm that this historic speakeasy offers. We were certainly not disappointed. The old electric company building is fabulous, and is beautifully done out. A big bar services a very classy, enthusiastic crowd. The food was OK, but rather difficult to eat on the small tables and banquette seats. We were absolutely delighted to hear the wonderful band Magnolia Memoir, who performed three really, really excellent sets. Don't expect to have meaningful conversations while the band plays - it is a nightclub after all. All up, food, a couple of beers, a glass of wine, sparkling mineral water and the entertainment set us back $118 including the tip, which we Kiwi's felt was very good value. We had a great time, loved the ambience, loved dressing up, and loved mingling with all the motivated, friendly people. A superb place that should be an essential visit when in LA.

Six friends came early without reservations but we tipped a few people and got a spot with impossibly small tables but together nonetheless. We would grow to appreciate our spot as the place became unbelievably packed and passage to and fro increasingly difficult. The reclaimed bowels of this historic building have been transformed into a spot where hipsters, clubbers, scenesters and those with money literally rub elbows. In my opinion the inherent visual interest of the magnificent industrial salvage makes it one of the ten best interiors in Los Angeles. The world class bartenders are reason enough for the serious spirits hound to visit with the sexy dance review being the reason to stay. I didn't encounter any attitude though one of the doormen barked at our limo driver for some thing or other. Other patrons were friendly and flirtatious wihile the staff worked to enhance the houses's revenue. The food was unremarkable (even unmemorable) but not the reason anyone would go there on a Saturday night. Not a place to go one the cheap, go big or go home. Worth it to us more as a bucket list destination than a weekly hangout.

My husband surprised me with a visit to the Edison. I had been wanting to go ever since a podcast I used to listen to raved about it. It was not anything like I expected. Our hard to get reservations gave us a spot on a very long couch with a small round table in front of us. We were encouraged to get up and walk around and check out the rest of the place. I have to say it is very cool inside. Dark, lit with filament lights and with silent movies playing on the walls, it really has a speakeasy feel to it. There are several nooks and crannies to sit any size group. Since we arrived early (my husband joked, "We don't close it down! We open it up!"), we noticed all of the tables had reserved signs on them. There are some stand up tables for those who do not have reservations. We also noticed many times people would sit next to us at a “reserved” table until they were asked to leave by the hostess. This made for a really awkward moment for not only the people arriving but those being told to move. As others started arriving, we began to feel a bit out of place. This is definitely a place for the 20-30's crowd. Some people dressed in flapper-style 20's outfits and some dressed to impressed, others wore denim and button down shirts so I don’t think the dress code is enforced rather it is encouraged. Lots of bachelorette parties the night we were there (Sat) and several groups of guys watching them! Our server was super friendly, checking with us just often enough to get a drink or food order. The Kobe sliders were amazing, the Ahi tuna tartare tasted really good and the shrimp cocktail was just kinda average. The Mistress champagne cocktails made with vodka, lemon and pomegranate, were really tasty and we appreciated that they were not too strong. We were able to have 4 each over the course of the evening and still register below .05 on our breathalyzer! This is not a sit down dinner place. They do have meal selections but the table is very small as are the portions. I suggest that you order several different plates over the course of the evening and share. The burlesque show began at 9:45 PM. The show consists of 4 showgirls coming out on stage and doing a choreographed dance routine for 12 minutes then walking off stage, through the crows, posing for pictures. We were somewhat surprised by the brevity of the "show" and we were told the next one was at 11:30. We did not stay for it. As we were leaving at 10:30, there was a short line outside the building, more of the 20-30's crowd. It felt a little sketchy walking back up the alley and trying to hail a cab but that may have been our age showing. We’ve always been told we don't look our age but this night we sure felt it!!

We dropped in for a few drinks during happy hour on a Thursday. We initially had a hard time finding the entrance, a little off the main street. The bartender made my martinis like an artist and we enjoyed the silent movies being shown on the wall. It was fun & would definitely return.

The word "amazing" is often overused. But it certainly applies here. From the moment you enter this incredible place you are transformed. The ambient lighting sets the scene for a magical experience. We arrived early in the evening so had a chance to walk around to see much of the fascinating interior--almost like touring a museum, but even more fun. Every detail was breathtaking! The historical building has been impeccably restored to close to its original state: a hundred year old power plant. The staff was pleasant and helpful, and the food (four of us shared the Sampler Platter) was quite good. The warm chocolate cookies were to die for! Even though it was not an inexpensive venture, you feel you "got your money's worth" because of the beautiful and interesting venue. It's impossible not to enjoy the experience.

Great place for an upscale evening. I appreciated the enforcement of the dress code. It's nice to go somewhere with nicely dressed people. The service was outstanding and its a very secure environment. The drinks and food were very good. I would recommend reserving a table. The minimums for food and beverage are reasonable.

Love the ambiance and the flapper outfits at The Edison! Although there was a line getting in (about 20 minutes), it's worth the wait for no cover charge. The drinks were not too pricey compared to the some of the bars around town. Definitely will go back again! Oh, can't beat those $0.25 cent martinis at Thursday Happy Hour!

With the steam-punk movement well underway, this former power plant turned bar makes a wonderful place for a bar serving specialty cocktails. If you plan on having a party here, it is suggested to make a reservation and request one of their private booths. This place will not disappoint.

Best interior ever. Dark, eclectic, industrial with slight steampunk vibe. Romantic sexy. Some nights have burlesque on the hour. Brick walls with black and white movies playing. Dress up, no sports clothing. Super special place. Bother men and women would find it sexy.

Guests are seated on cozy couches, chic poufs, or Victorian era chairs, and may listen to live music, watch silent movies, or chat while being served delicious drinks. The food selection is varied, but not vast enough as to be overwhelming, and the bite-sized dishes are the perfect size to nibble on. The black, gold, and maroon color scheme combined with the sepia luminescence of the Edison bulbs makes for an intimate feel even in a larger layout. The Edison overflows with charm, highlighting elements that make their location unique, such as the old generator that dominates one of the back rooms. I would return, and will certainly recommend it.

Happy Hour is good and the foods are tasty. As the night goes on just after Happy Hour there is a show in the air...great to experience. It's a dark enviornment and well designed but the service is a bit lacking everytime I've gone with work friends. Had to actually just go to the bar and order for myself because of the slow or unattentive server.

What a fun place to have a drink and eat. The ambiance is amazing and so well done. Probably one of the most interesting net places I have been. The dancers were fun to watch along with all the interesting people

We booked into the Edison with two other couples for dinner following a matinee show at the Ahmanson. It was a blind shot based on an internet search and it turned out to be a sensational winner. The venue is exceptionally well done with a unique decor which preserves the building's historic roots. There are many interesting nooks within which give you plenty of intimacy. The menu was most interesting and creative and the food was absolutely superb. The food prices were also very reasonable. Lastly, the service was excellent, being both personable and quick. We have definitely found a new downtown LA favorite!

My husband, a few friends and I stopped in on a Saturday night after reading good reviews on this place. I agree. The place is really neat. Felt like I was transported to the Great Gatsby era. The decor is fun to look at, drinks were good (I had the mistress $15). Dance floor was busy with a variety of music. Stick to the dress code on the website. They follow it at the door. We didn’t get to try any food but we all agreed we would go back again to taste it out!

We went to The Edison with another couple on 7.18.09 and absolutely loved it. The building itself is amazing - there are 100 year old relics everywhere from its old power plant days. The servers dressed in 20’s attire, the silent movies being projected onto numerous walls, and the large gin, scotch, and absinthe selections all add to the old world ambiance. The entire space is located underground - you walk down a couple flights of stairs upon entering the front door. The space is made up of numerous different rooms all with a theme (i.e. the generator room, the game room, the music room, etc.) I suggest making a reservation in advance because it allows you and your guests to check out the different rooms, use the restrooms, etc. without ever having to worry about losing your table. The Edison is great for so many reasons: · Well dressed clientele · No cover charge · Great service · Sexy / classy burlesque dancer that adorns the bartop every hour or so · Gorgeous décor · Well made drinks and not too pricey late night eats

Great historic venue, great drinks and great entertainment. Staff is attentive and the drinks are well crafted. Take a tour of the entire place and enjoy your drinks in the different venues

Worth going just to see the history and interior design. No question, it's beautiful and elegant. A nice mix of crowds, and great security. Had no issues getting in, and had a very memorable time. Will absolutely visit again the next time in LA.

Originally an Edison powerplant converted into a unique nightclub. No windows and might feel claustrophobic since it's subterranean but lighting and gothic-like decor are attention catching. Mechanical artifacts retained as part of fixtures which is neat. I went on a company sponsored party. Staff are very attentive, accommodating and courteous . Personally good for one time experience as I'm not much of a party goer but worth checking out.

Excellent bar with a great vibe. Good live music at times.

Great Martinis, good dancing, good music on Friday nights.

Were it not for the unique setting and wonderful staff, I would have rated my visit to The Edison "terrible." Went there for an impromptu gathering to celebrate a friend's birthday on a Friday. Early birds enjoyed friendly service, drinks and food at 40% off during cocktail hour 5-7pm. The place was very dark, and staff went out of their way to help us search for an item that had dropped under the table. Some friends, having traveled from other counties, arrived after cocktail hour. Before I looked over the menu to order, a hostile woman marched over with "I am owner, hear me roar" attitude: "You have new people coming after 7. It's $25 minimum per person, no it's $50 per person on a Friday, for use of a table." She went on with rules about reservations, payment in advance for parties. There were plenty of empty tables, and ours became one of them as we moved the celebration elsewhere to boycott the unpleasant owner.

Mysterious and dark. Makes you feel like you are on the Silver Screen. Swanky witout the bourgeouis. Go to happy hour to absorb the atmosphere in plain clothes; get on the list if you want to stay for dinner.

This is my second time to the Edison but this time it was a Thursday night and wasn't too full. There was a great blues band Dustbowl Revival playing and lots of people were dancing or tapping their feet. Drinks were good and not too pricey.

thursday nights are great!! live band and burlesque! good ambiance

I've come to love this beatifully restored and appreciated historic building many times now and for different shows for that night. My favorite is the classic burlesque ;-) There's no way I can say how amazing this place is. The entrance is almost secreative because it's down a dark alley and then you start hearing some faint music and finally see a door man. I recommend it to guests coming to the hotel I work at and to friends. If you think a little strappy club dress for the ladies and some unbuttoned, rhinestoned polyester shirt is what you should wear, HA! Think again mon ami. I came here ONCE, and it only took that one time, dressed in what I thought were a nice pair of jeans and stappy heels and a sweater. I wish someone kicked me out due to my lack of appropriate attire to save me from embarrassment! Never again! I learned my lesson! Shine your shoes guys and borrow a nice tie or wear a nice shirt and blazer. Ladies, well I don't want to have to tell you that the tube dress you wear at other clubs won't exactly fit in this joint but don't make a fool of yourself and spend the $$ for that extra yard of fabric for your dress or shoes. Don't get me wrong! I haven't found a random person in this place that isn't easy to talk to or wants to dance. Point is this place is amazing! You'll have a fantastic time no doubt about it!

This place is very nice and cozy. It’s very unusual if compared to other similar places. The singer and his wife that usually perform in this place are very nice and have a delicious voice. In the menu you can find many cocktails and food. I tasted two cocktails and were special. I enjoyed my evening there; the prices are not very high. I recommend to experience it once in LA.

This is a really fun place to go and grab drinks- the atmosphere is awesome and should definitely be on a Los Angeles Bucket list. It is expensive but I would say that it's on par with other upscale bars and clubs. Drinks are $14, beers are $9, and Absinthe shots are $8. And the drinks are good. I was with a group of six and everyone really enjoyed theirs (I recommend the Edison which is a bourbon drink with pear brandy). I've seen complaints about the staff and in general they weren't great but they certainly didn't ruin the evening. And our server was actually really nice. It took a while to get drinks but that meant we could enjoy ourselves. Definitely dress up. They have a strict dress code and you'll be glad that you did- it's part of the fun of the evening. I liked the crowd also, a range of ages- I didn't get the feeling that the place was "too cool" for most which some LA clubs definitely evoke. And one last tip, we reserved a table which I recommend. That way you don't have to worry about finding a place to tip. The per person minimum at tables is $25 (on Wednesday and Thursday, $50 on weekends) but with $14 drinks, it's pretty easy to reach this.

O love the decor of this place, lots of cool drinks, including the Absinthe Fairy shots. The staff was very attentive and professional from the door guys to the servers. this is a first class establishment that can't be missed. The Aerialist were awesome too!!

LOVE the ambiance. There really is no place quite like it. Great drinks, plenty of places to get comfortable. Great for events/parties.

I'm sorry but when I'm wearing d&g jeans, a Burberry jacket and you don't let me in because I have $250 Nike low pros on you can go to hell. I don't care how elegant your establishment is, this is the 21st century. If I casually wear trendy sneakers instead of ferragamos and you turn me away, when someone in my party is also wearing diesel sneakers, then you are a place not worth my time nor money. I've been to much classier places Italy, NYC, LA and SF that act with respect and integrity and don't denigrate high spending clientele. An absolute disgrace.

OK so I was expecting something different. Maybe I should rate it higher but I can't. 6 of us arrived to warm greetings from the door to the table. The interior is stunning! clearly some design and thought went into this club. I found it fantastic in many ways from quiet cozy corners to wide open areas. Well laid out and thoughtful. The lighting is fantastic and the bars are gorgeous. Took many pictures. The drinks were good to great with nice house specialties well done. The wine list was adequate to good - and I am picky. The drinks came quickly. Everything good so far. The seating was stylish but not very comfortable - basically a coffee table. Felt like sitting on the floor to be closer to my food and drink. Kinda sore back after leaning over all night to reach everything. The crowd was Young urban professional, very respectful and adult, with a smattering of older folks. The show was adequate, but not particularly memorable. OK dancing but nothing too creative. Kinda four girls all doing the same moves at the same time. Later shows got a little better. Decided to eat, and that was where it went bad. The food was good to not so good. My wife's Monte Cristo sandwich was to die for, the best she's had in a while and my mushroom tarts were above average. The grilled cheese was served barely warm, too salty, and the soup was too salty and spicey. I think bars change the recipes to be more salty to encourage beverage consumption. Makes for a lousy meal. One of our party did not get her food for 15 yes 15 minutes after the rest of us. We had to remind the waitress several times. I asked for water repeatedly to no avail, finally a bus person came and brought waters but not until our meal was over - not helped by cold and over-salted food. The music was also interesting. Volume increased throughout the night until it was nearly impossible to hear eachother, like it was on a timer, every hour it increased 10 dB. Anyway I won't belabor the review anymore. If you go expecting just drinks and a good time with a professional crowd in a beautiful atmosphere you have found your place - 5 stars. If you want to eat a meal and get some restaurant type service - don't bother - 2 stars. Average 3.5 stars

We came here for an early dinner and drinks before a show at the Wiltern. We were given a cozy booth in a quiet corner. We saw that they had fantastic happy hour specials (40% off certain drinks, highly discounted prices on certain menu items), so we both ordered fancy cocktails. For dinner my husband went with the steak and I had the Kobe sliders. Both were AMAZING. I wish I had more room in my tummy because we both could have ordered another of each dish they were that fantastic. For dessert we went with The Elvis (grilled peanut butter and banana sandwich with a warm caramel dipping sauce) which was excellent (we have since recreated it a few times at home!). The service was a bit slow, especially in trying to get water refills, but the servers also left us alone which can be nice when you're trying to have a relaxing evening. Everything about this place, from the food to the ambiance, was perfection. Quick tip, we were easily able to grab the metro from the restaurant to our show, which saved us money on a cab or parking and allowed us to enjoy our cocktails worry free. I highly recommend this place, especially if you can get in during happy hour before the rush!

An interesting room to see, yet the crowd and some of the staff were off-putting. What do I mean? While standing in line to get a drink as service to our table was a bit slow, a patron behind me put his mouth to my ear and began to nibble and whisper that I allow him to get my drink. So wrong. Then, in order to usher my friends out of his path, a waiter yelled "Move" to them, rather than any civilized use of manners. Again, worth seeing the architecture.

A great restaurant to visit if your entertaining guest or friends from out of town. Upstairs is an nice place to smoke a cigar or two. The real show starts about 1130 pm you must be there to see this LIVE surprises only at EDISON.

So cute. So cool. Sooooo many rules! I appreciate a place with standards but too many rules it's just too limiting. The look & feel of this "speak easy" style bar is pretty awesome. Unfortunately, the service (although friendly) SUPER slow. I, in no way am a drink guzzler, so keeping my glass full is typically easy. I had to wait a very long time between each drink & felt a little embarrassed that I had to chase down my waitress so often. Music was fun & wish I could say I would be back. The overwhelming number of rules, the pricy & limited menu & very slow service prevent me from wanting to return.

Great night club in a well preserved building with original factory setting. Bartender very helpful with quick service. Don't forget carry your photo I'd to enter. Reserve well in advance.

I really wanted to love this place since the venue itself is super cool. However, there were too many strange annoying aspects: 1) it is VERY dark inside, I mean very dark( you had better have the flashlight app to read the menu) 2) they had a wonderful jazz combo playing on an elevated stage, but there is almost nowhere to sit to watch them that doesn't have a pillar blocking the view or from the side of the stage 3) there is a $25 per person minimum (cocktails are $14+) but the cocktail tables are much too small when you order the very overpriced food 4) The food is only alright( the flatbread was like a tough pizza) & "over-styled". We ordered the Yukon potato chips which was served in a paper cone in a bowl. After we finished the chips we discovered an entire pool of cheese in the bottom of the bowl with nothing to dip in it. I might go back for cocktail hour sometime to bring guests to an interesting venue.

This place is hard to find since location is on the alley. From outside its nothing as soon as you go in, omg the architecture and lightings are pretty much original "Edison" style. Definitely needs reservation for bigger crowd, great happy hour menu and drinks, gets crowded, early birds gets the worm and they let you seat on reserve table until it's needed. Marguerite pizza bread and sliders is yum but no chicken wings Dance floor is small but nice music.

I was there on a wednesday evening with a group of french people. The band plays good music, the drinks are good but a bit expensive. I didnt try the food but it look quite ok (but a bit expensive too). The environment is very very nice, decoration and style is top level. The staff is ok, not too friendly, but not bad neither. I will go there again for sure...

Everything about the Edison makes you want to stay and not leave. The ambiance, the decor, the staff, the food & the drinks are all top notch and first rate. If you have not been to The Edison, it is an absolute must experience.

We went for happy hour. Great food and an amazing drink menu. I felt underdressed. Not a jeans and sweater kind of place. Thursday is the best deal for happy hour.

My friends and enjoyed everything about the Edison. The 20s theme was clear and done well. 3 story brick building lit by bulbs around lounge and chandelier in staircase. Lots of seating , big bar, large mirrors , silent films projected on walls, shadow animation on wall , burlesque dancers on stage, and a fairy distributing absinthe vodka in tiny glass bottles in a cart. So fun !! Great DJ and we danced all night. On Saturday get there before 9:30-10 so no line. Enjoy!!

Fabulous cocktails, incredible talented dancers performing all songs from Chicago as 1920's Flappers....they are awesome! fun dj too

If you want to surprise your guests visiting California, take them to The Edison. By the way you will be also pleasantly surprised with the place once again. It is a unique nightclub in the heart of downtown Los Angeles.

Went with a few friends on a Thursday night. The food and drinks were excellent, the place is wicked unique and it's fun to see all the different rooms. Then the band started, classic Motown, jazz and blues, it was fabulous!! Make sure to wear your dancing shoes.

This is a really fun bar. Just be aware that the drinks are expensive... $15 for vodka/tonic. It also gets really crowded, standing room only. If you want a table you need to make a reservation for table service and pay a minimum fee per person. However, since its already pretty expensive you'll meet that minimum with 2 drinks/pp.

This was a really unique place. Most people were probably aged 25-35 and it had a nice vibe. They had old movies projected on the walls and we didn't see it but I heard they do burlesque here. They have a custom menu of unique drinks that were really fun to try. There's a dance floor too and music was fun and upbeat, not top 40s, but more like classic dance music.

We booked 3 weeks in advance for dinner on a Friday evening. Although we had no response and assumed they had no space, we then received an email 2 days before our scheduled time to say a space had been reserved for us. We were unsure how strict the dress code was going to be and did find the bar earlier in the day as we knew it was down an alley and unmarked. The bar however is pretty easy to find. Upon arriving there were 2 doormen who asked for id/reservations and clearly checked our attire, but we were let in no problem. I wore trousers/toms/shirt and my partner had a long dress and flat sandals on. Once inside we saw people in jeans/shirts/dresses. Everyone was dressed up and men were in trousers, but it was not too flashy. There was a definite 'local' feel and it was great to be surrounded by people who clearly live in LA and are not just tourists. We heard about this place through reviews and on tripadvisor but because you need to book in advance we feel our research paid off and gave us the chance to visit somewhere more unique than the usual tourist traps. The staff were very organised and met us inside and at the bottom of the stairs to escort us to our table...which was tiny! It is obvious they are trying to create a prohibition style / impressive atmosphere and therefore there are no big tables which we could see for people to sit down and eat. We sat on a long leather sofa and had a very small side table in front of us. Once we had ordered our food could not all fit on the table along with 1 drink each and had to be put on the shelf under the table as well, great for informal dining but not if you want a nice sit down meal. The food itself, and the cocktails, were delicious. We had a sharer plate and fries and also sliders. Great taste and size for the price. The waiter was great, really friendly and attentive even though he was extremely busy. We were impressed that someone who was drunk was quickly asked to leave (politely), and appreciated the standards that they have. There were also dancers performing with ropes/hoops which added to the funky vibe. We loved it here and would definitely return if ever we came back to LA in the future.

I attended a corporate special event here while in LA. It is simply amazing! There are so many facets to the decor, nooks and crannies where people can meet for conversation, a great dance floor and raised bandstand and a fast, friendly wait staff. I would love to return to this place.

Service was great. The place is fantastic from a design and atmosphere standpoint. But DONT go there if your only intention is to see the burlesque show...it is short, un-inventive and very low on the sexy meter. Also, plan on eating somewhere else prior to going as the food there is ok if you have the munchies (and you have no other option) but not worth it if you are planning a visit for the purpose of eating there. So five starts on a couple of fronts and one starts on a couple of other fronts so net score of average. Still worth a visit at least once. If you do go and hate lines....get there before 9pm.

Went here for a work party on a Wednesday evening. The place is difficult to find down an alley off of 2nd street. We had one of the back rooms reserved even though it didn't seem busy at all. They won't let you in until 5 pm. Drinks seemed reasonably priced. Appetizers were good. The decor was really cool.

I was totally taken back by this place. Its not your typical kind of restaurant/bar. The architecture of this building, inside is truly remarkable! Unfortunately I was unable to catch the show (which I hear is great) but I was able to enjoy the atmosphere. Truly a place to check out, if only for an hour. I will be back to visit. The mixology is on point there too. :)

I had my fill of super crowded clubs in college and my husband has never been a fan. But we really wanted to do NYE "Los Angeles Style" and really live it up. I had heard good things about this place, so I went ahead and booked a table for 4. At ~$100 per person for the ticket, it wasn't the cheapest option ever, but that included the table, a bottle of champagne, and a champagne toast at midnight. We were floored with how great it was! The atmosphere is just amazing! Its roaring 20's with and steampunk all mixed in. We had the table for the night, our waitress pointed out that we could leave our stuff and come and go as we pleased as it was our "home base" for the night - I absolutely would do this again, it was so great to have a quieter / calmer retreat to come back to in between watching the live music and dancing and watching the aerialists etc. When it was midnight the main areas were pretty darn crowded (crowded, not insanely jam packed), so the table refuge around the corner from the dancing was such a welcome respite! The crowd was late 20's through maybe early 40's mix. In my opinion, lots of fun. These were all adults looking to dance, celebrate, blow off some steam and have some fun, not pompus 22 year olds who are "too cool" to be polite or dress nice. Bottom line, I'd go again with a fun group of people in a heartbeat, but only if we got a table again.

We did a corporate event there in January 2018. It was wonderful. The staff was really accommodating, very professional, and super friendly. The food was really good, and the drinks were fantastic. The place itself is an old power plant. You literally get to hang out inside the boiler, and are walking around old early 1900's equipment. Such a really cool place to do something. The only difficulty about the place is for people to find the door. You need to let people know that it is in the alley! The one thing that really needs to get some attention immediately is the AV. All the projectors are running VGA cords with a native resolution of 800X600. While we were told that they have everything, we ended up having LA Sound rentals save our event at the last min bringing us a projector. Also, the sound system has a constant hiss. This is because whoever set up the sound system has things gained completely wrong. The AV people they had were really nice and really trying hard to help, but are very junior techs.

Was at a wedding here recently. Buffet food was DELICIOUS. My husband hates salmon and he loved theirs. Drinks were great, plenty of staff and bartenders to handle the capacity crowd, and they were congenial and helpful ("what should I drink?" and they had a dozen ideas to offer). Atmosphere can't be beat. 20s theme wedding meshed perfectly with this location. Events manager was stellar. We didn't have any kinks in the plans here and she was on point.

Really nice club for drinks, party and food. Great stuff, good music, awesome "ambiente" we just loved the place and had a good time

Good environment. Very good place to meet others. Enjoy...

The Edison is a sight to see in LA by itself. An old electric plant turned bar is as good as any set on a 1930's Hollywood movie. Drinks are expensive so prepare for it. The night we went wasn't crowded which allowed us plenty of time to take in the several different areas of the bar. saw Jeremy Piven there (entourage) and he even complained about the bill. It's a must see though.

I was in awe as I walked down the stairs into the open restaurant/bar. The decor is beautiful, with little nooks and crannies everywhere, all done in a 20's or 30's theme...luxurious...I can't describe how beautiful it is...the food was great and I just wish I had gone when the crowds were there, each time I have been it has been quiet however I hear it goes off and gets packed. The silent movies on the wall are fantastic...just beautiful...BEAUTIFUL!

For 2 years The Edison was my favorite spot in LA and always was looking forward to go there when i was visiting LA (I live in San Diego). 2 days ago I was there again and it was very, very disappointing. What happened to their dress code enforcement - wearing Ugg boots???!!! Ski caps? Flannel checkered shirts??? Not only it was distasteful but it was almost insulting to us who were trying to be dressed in this particular period style. The cocktails had maybe 1% alcohol (mostly juice), the burlesque show was also not the same as before and crowd was simply unbearable. I guess the management got very greedy and they don't care who is getting in as long as they pay cover charge. Unfortunately the place lost its charm, upscale atmosphere and sophistication. Very sad and disappointing because it truly was a very unique spot.

try and get a table near the stage on Saturdays to see the show. Drinks and food are a little pricy but good

Super cool venue--swanky and fun at the same time with live entertainment, delicious food, and great drinks. The perfect place for your 20s themed event. Mistress The Edison Edison fries Tesla fries Calamari Truffle Mac and cheese All very good. All worth trying at least once. ;)

One of the swankiest need to be seen at places in the city! The bartenders are ultra creative so give them a craving and let them creat something amazing for you! Call ahead for the VIP group seating in the back corner but wander around and check out history as well!

We had heard lots about the Edison before going. We went on a thursday night around 9:15pm. I was wearing a LBD and high heels, my husband black leather boots, dark jeans and dressy shirt. We were turned away at the door, "collared shirts" only they said. We pointed out that the guy in front of us was wearing a simple polo and they had let him enter, but apparently that qualifies as collar. No problem, our hotel was close so we took a taxi back and the hubby pulled out a black shirt. When we got back at the Edison it was around 9:45pm. The first thing they said when they saw us was: "Oh, today we'll be closing at 10:30pm". I couldn't believe it. By then I was furious, but my husbvand really wanted to enter. The place is cool to see, but the drinks were very expensive and small. The waiters were arrogant and rude. Not a good impression on our first night in LA!

Step in off of a side alley into the old Edison building in downtown, Los Angelos for a very unique cocktail lounge. There is food, but there is a limited menu. It is a place to meet after work, or take friends for a drink before dinner. It is absolutely beautiful inside. It is well worth going just to see the décor and lighting. This building use to be the old electric power building, thus the name of the Edison. They have incorporated the old workings of the electric company to be part of the décor. The pendent lighting coming from two stories up is stunning. The couches and tables are grouped intimately throughout the lounge making a cozy setting. There are old black and white silent movies playing on some of the large walls that make up the room. The copper back wall of one of the bars is so beautiful and glows as the light hits it. I have never quite experienced a cocktail lounge that was so beautiful and elegant. Kuddos to the designer and contractor. It is stunning. I will definitely be back here again when visiting the Los Angeles area. There is a dress code. No shorts or sleeveless shirts for the men. No baggy pants. Very Cool place . We did not try the food. Only cocktails.

My spouse and I had planned to take our BFF out to celebrate her 50th birthday, at The Edison. Upon calling, there was PLENTY of notification about the dress-code, which I appreciated. However, upon our arrival there were patrons wearing clothing completely against the "Required" dress code. This was unnerving, as the doorman and the hostess checked us out from head-to-toe upon entry. We inquired about the corkage fee for our champagne, but found that it was enormous, so we decided NOT. When we were escorted to our reserved table, there was someone seated there. We stood over him as they made him move. Awkward There was a live band in another room. We asked to be moved to watch the band. The hostess checked the room and said it was clear for us. The hostell escorted us to the clear area, but again, there were people seated there. We again hovered over them as the hostess booted them out. Awkward Here goes some of the fee-related issues: Fee per person for cutting the cake; Fee for 4 or more persons seated in an area; Hundreds in fees for corkage; to top it off, the waitress said she needed to "Hold my credit card for collateral." She said, "We wont charge it, it's just collateral." INSULTING Beautiful place, but we do not plan to return. Remove the many rules and its worth the time.

Went out to The Edison with my hubby while we were visiting LA. I made a reservation about 2 weeks in advance for a Thursday at 7:45pm. When we arrived, to our dismay, they did not have the reservation. Did not matter though as there were not very many patrons and plenty of open tables. I'm not sure if this was because it was a Thursday or if it was still kinda early? It took 5-10 minutes after we were seated for a server to approach us. After the wait, though, our waiter was very nice and attentive. Our cocktails were not very good or strong. Also ordered the truffled mac & cheese and the calamari. Neither of these were great, just average. The "truffled" mac & cheese did not have any truffle flavor and could have used more salt. The calamari, though tender, did not have much flavor. The accompanying sauces tasted store bought. There was supposed to be a burlesque show that evening at 8pm that apparently did not happen for unknown reasons. Also, there was a wedding reception going on while we were there. The guests did the bouquet & garter tosses and seemed to have their own band. Although I did not really mind the wedding guests, I thought it was pretty strange that the reception was being held throughout the establishment with a handful of unaffiliated patrons co-mingling; I felt like we were intruding. The space itself is pretty cool, though dark. Would not recommend. We only stayed about 1 hour and were pretty bored. At least we did not have to pay cover.

Very cool design and smooth atmosphere in this place. Old electricity plant with artsy projections. Great cocktails and burlesque show. On the edge of downtown where you might dont want stroll to far in the wrong direction (i.e heading towards Los angeles street).

The Edison is one of the most unique venues anywhere for drinks, dining, etc. Come early to walk through the entire facility and check out the historical artifacts, and ask one of the bartenders for something interesting to drink. Then come back after 8 for the real scene! Don't let the alley-entry put you off - this is not a hole in the wall kind of place. If you want to see one of the shows definitely get reservations; the amount of seating is kind of limited for a place so massive. But it's a see-and-be-seen kind of place, especially later in the evening, so I guess sitting down isn't the point! The bartenders are truly fantastic, and the cocktail menu has interesting updated classics. We had sliders, which were delightful, and the service was great. To be fair, we were there before it got super crowded. but their professionalism makes me think it's likely service is outstanding at all hours.

This is,the kind of place so,unique and special that u can't forget. Its like I stepped into another place in time, the roaring 20s. Everyone is so beautiful, the place is dark and mysterious. Really sexy. Yes the drinks can be expensive but again this,is not the bar you go to every weekend. Fun Night at the Edison.

The Edison is such a interesting space with a Steam Punk vibe to it from its former life as an electrical generator for the city. It has lots of nooks and places to hang out, retro entertainment, a good food and drinks. They also host some great events like their Halloween Party and costume contest. Sometimes the service can be a bit off---depending on how busy they are. If you don't love crowds---check their website for events going on mid-week.

First of all, wow! Unlike any bar I have ever been in, this historical building is full of nooks and cranny's and machines from years gone by....really a sight to behold. With projections of film from the early 20th century and a strict dress code, this place is all class. The drinks (whilst not cheap) are great. A good selection of cocktails served by friendly staff, with a good selection of beers for when the bill starts looking a bit daunting. I've been to the Edison twice, only once for dinner - and had the seared Ahi sandwich....which is one of the best I've had. They also have fantastic entertainment. Both times I've visited I saw "Magnolia Memoir" who really brought another level of authenticity and class to an already brilliant venue.

Beautiful décor and atmosphere. Very unique. It is set up as a lounge bar with a huge screen tv playing silent movies and 1920's music. Later in the night the music changes to club music and the place gets very crowded. The seating is limited so most of the crow is just standing or walking around. The drinks are pricey but very good. I really liked The Mistress. We went on a Saturday and got seated by the stage but unfortunately as soon as the show started (The Eddies) all the people standing around gather in front of the stage and completely blocked our view of the show. Other than that, we had a good time. It is definitely a must go to place at least once just to check it out.

A friend took us to The Edison and what a surprise! This is almost like you are stepping back in time. I can't believe I had not heard about it until now. Great ambiance, so different and stimulating. The night I was there there was a DJ, but I understand they also have a life jazz during the week. The food was just OK and the wine list was very limited, however if you are into cocktails, this will be a great place for you. I will make sure to come back and tell all my friends about it. Make sure to bring ID, it seems they ask for it even if you look 50.

Quick trip to LA from Phoenix and a very memorable unique night of fun! Walking in through the not-so-obvious but elegant alleyway entrance and down into the basement of the 100-year-old building in downtown L.A. was like stepping back into time. Classy club, perfectly lit, with so much ambiance and attention to detail. It was fun to have a reason to dress up and see so many people willing to do the same (instead of showing up in flip flops or sports shoes and ripped jeans). The DJ was great, hourly cabaret show was fun. We danced the night away, enjoyed the menu with good options for snacks, drinks, food and dessert. Having a reserved table was great! No matter how many people showed up and how much time we wanted to spend dancing, we always had our own table to come back to catch a breather and enjoy a drink and watch all the people coming and going in various levels of attire. The absinthe fairy cart was a nice touch and it all made for a fresh change from nightclub norm!

Pros: The club's looks great the people there were friendly and professional. The Music was good. Cons: I had the worse "mai tai" of my life here. You have to order a drink from a bartender named Alex and only him. We went to dance but by midnight there were only 12 people dancing and we were 4 of them. Fake line outside to make the place look packed, like back in the day. Overall: If you want to have a drink at a cool looking lounge, this is a great place. But if you want to dance, try another club.

Great drinks, great ambiance, great food. Haven't yet been disappointed by their martini special.

Wow...overpriced and under delivered...seems like there is new management since making the deal with Disney. They have relaxed the dress code too and are letting people that look like they are homeless inside as well as the homeless campers outside. What a disappointment for a once great location. Would give it zero stars if I could. Also fix the chocolate chip cookies as they taste like chalk now. Total failure!

cool place...

If you love architecture and history, especially if you're an American starved for the real deal. This is it. Dress like you mean it. Imagine yourself in sequins and velvet in a high end Speakeasy. Sparkly is good. Sophisticated elegance even better. Prepare for a cocktail involving Absinthe that is actually drinkable. The security will inspect your attire, so consider what you look like to someone with expectations. They're not mean about it, but tennis shoes and board shorts aren't going to do the job. It's better to make reservations, so you have a place to sit and watch the glitterati wander by. Stay out late and catch the floor show. If you're the designated there are 'cocktails' for you as well. The bar menu is pricey and not this their forte. Eat somewhere nearby, then walk on over in your suit and spats. Revisit the forties, but not on an empty stomach if you value your credit card limit. This is a must see in Los Angeles if you're a visitor!

If I could give this place negative -100 stars, I would. We booked reservations at this place (on January 23rd) for an evening out on April 14th (we are all busy so we plan way in advance). We took the train from OC to LA for our overnight stay with friends (6 people total) to check out the Edison. Booked a Hotel downtown (Intercontinental), made dinner reservations, and reservations at The Edison for drinks/table at 8 pm. All was going amazing until someone suggested a picture at dinner and I pulled out my cell phone to see a missed call. It was the Edison calling us at 6:19PM April 14th (same day) to make sure we knew they were closed that day for a private event. I was in complete shock! I had to hand the phone to my husband because I just couldn't believe they had our reservation for almost 3 months and no one had the courtesy to call us in advance to cancel. We don't make it to LA often and it being almost 7:15 we had no time to make alternate plans. So there we were all dressed up with absolutely NO place to go! I was beyond mortified with our friends and was left to scramble for an alternate solution. Needless to say we couldn't come up with anything, as no one takes last minute reservations for a party of 6 on a Saturday night. Thankfully our hotel was nice and we spent a few hours in the lobby having drinks and in bed by 11:45, what a complete waste of time and effort. Shame on them for their complete lack of courtesy and respect. I would avoid this place at all costs. NEVER AGAIN! You should be ashamed!!

I attended an international conference and we went to The Edison for our conference dinner. It's worth a visit just to experience the place alone. They also served us some great food and exotic drinks. I'm not sure whether they are open as a normal restaurant though - it looks more like a bar or a club.

The entrance is on a side street downtown but was easy to find. The decor is fun. Walk all around and see the old electrical equipment preserved artistically. The food was good, especially the Mac and cheese. I recommend trying multiple small plates with friends. The little cocktail tables are best for one appetizer at a time. We just had that for dinner and stayed for drinks, dancing and watching the show. Every once in a while some flappers arrived on stage and danced. The rest of the time there was a dj. Others in my group were not impressed with the dj who played random songs from disco to Motown that didn't seem to match the style of the place. Someone was disappointed that no Nine Inch Nails was played. I thought it sounded fine because I had a lot of cocktails. Read the ingredients of the signature cocktails before ordering. Some have strong favors and atypical ingredients that people may not be used to. I liked the Pimms cup. The bathroom is attended so bring a tip with you. Also some people arrived in vintage outfits but most were not.

I took my best friend for her birthday and we were really impressed. Having grown up in LA, I've seen many nice venues but this place really is a sexy bar! I guess it's a club, lounge...there's food there as well but I didn't eat there. The decor is vintage with lots of different rooms and def a must to walk around and check out. Our bartender Michael was superb and his drinks even better. Everyone is dressed up and good looking it seems. So if those complaining about the dress code, this is not the place for you. If you want to dress up, go somewhere special and see something different...come here. I will bring my husband here on a special occasion next time and have dinner, since there's a $50 min per person for any of the tables...so I guess dinner and a drink?

We made a reservation for Valentine's Day and were very excited to be going, and then within 24 hours were confronted with an unexpected family emergency. After half a dozen calls to the establishment, in an effort to talk to a human being, we finally contacted someone to inform them that we would have to cancel the reservation to leave town, fully planning to visit at a later date. They were completely indifferent to our problem, said the deposit of $120 was non-refundable, even though it was still a day or two before the planned reservation, and did not care about our predicament at all. We were not there, as we said we could not be, but were charged anyway. This seems like precisely the wrong way to do business, and we'll be sure not to visit a place run by such dismissive management. We'll also be sure to tell others about this treatment as well. Rude and unprofessional

Been here a few times and love coming back. Has a real 1920's/1930's feel about it with dancers in era costume. They do live shows and ambiance is great. Can get very busy. Never eaten here but I do recommend the old fashioned- very tasty

The vibe of this 100 year old power plant is amazing. We stopped for a Thursday night happy hour and were not disappointed. Food was a $14 steak and fries, $9 for two sliders and $4 for a soft pretzel with cheese dip. Drinks were 40% off menu price between 5pm and 7pm. Prices are a bit expensive when it isn't happy hour but this is the type of club that deserves premium pricing.

Opening in 2007, The Edison is a nightclub/restaurant/bar built in the space of the first power plant in Los Angeles. The homage to it's history is everywhere you look. After navigating the almost always present velvet rope line outside, you walk down stairs into a lair of liquor straight out of the '20s and '30s. The space is a genius mix of intimate little nooks where lovers retreat to wide open rooms where hipsters try to out hipster each other. The drinks are descent in very generous glasses, the food is comfortable and varied from sushi to German pretzels. But the atmosphere alone is worth the price of admission.

A friend took me to this place and insisted I was going to love it. And I did! It is a cool, beautiful place, with a nice ambiance. Everywhere you look there is something interesting to talk about. The staff is friendly and attentive, and prices can be a bit steep, but you are paying for the coolness as well. I cannot comment on the dinner experience because we only had drinks and appetizers, but for that matter, it was all good. I totally recommend The Edison, and I want to go back soon to see the burlesque show.

I have traveled the world, and this is absolutely the most fantastic bar/lounge that I've ever been in. If you enjoy a night out for a few cocktails, this is a definite DO NOT MISS. The entrance is kind of hard to find. It's not obvious from the main road. There is a small side-path off the street to get to the entrance, and even then it's sort of unassuming. There are no douchy velvet ropes or attitude to deal with at the door. When you go in and descend upon the large staircase, what unfolds below you is truly jaw-dropping. It's quite large, with several distinct different areas to hang out in. Fantastic live entertainment as well. The steampunk old-powerplant decor is second to none. Good crowd too. Nice friendly professional good clientele, not a just-turned-21 kid crowd. Whenever I'm in LA, I always get on Priceline and get a 3 star or better downtown hotel using their "Express Deals" section of the website and then Uber it over to The Edison. Besides Edison, there's so many great places to eat and drink in downtown now, an overnight in the area will be enjoyable.

Went with a girlfriend and we sat at a table on a Friday. You need to hit a pretty steep minimum of $50 pp for the table so go hungry. Food was great, drinks were great and the people were a terrific mixed crowd. After 11p it got a bit clubby (and not in a good way) but we were there from 7p - 11p and had a great time. Loads of singles and couples so no one left out.

I absolutely loved the atmosphere at The Edison. What a great re-use of the building. There were lots of intimate seating areas, nice couches and nooks tucked away. The music was fabulous! The night we were there, there was a jazz band that played music from the 20's, 30's and 40's. The place definitely gives you the feel of a 'speakeasy'. I would highly recommend. I was with a group of colleagues, most of whom were from Los Angeles. I looked it up on Trip Advisor and they never even knew about it. It was a bit pricey, but I thought it was worth it.

I must begin with this: The Edison is an amazing place with over-the-top decor and ambiance. Walking in, the giant screens flickering film noir reminiscent of the 1920s, the gaslamp feel of the electric lights, and the well-themed decor, I was stunned and impressed. However, there were significant issues with ability to book the restaurant and with the overall service. When I tried to book the restaurant on Open Table, it noted that there were no times available for the next 31 days. I had to call the restaurant personally to get a table. Now, I must preface this with the fact that the word "restaurant" is a misnomer in the case of the Edison. This is a nightclub/bar. It has live entertainment, a red rope with people checking ID out front (even at 5pm), a cover minimum per person, and small tables not meant for entrees to fit on them. The menu is impressive and the food excellent, but this is not a restaurant exactly. That said, upon arriving, our party of 4 was sat upon short stools around two 20" diameter tables in a dark corner facing a wall. The waitress took a while to arrive and handed us a list of cocktails. We asked for menus. She handed us 2. We asked for an additional 2 menus for the rest of our party and she frowned and left. It was incredibly rude and a bad start. She returned with 2 more menus, looking clearly confused why we wanted menus. After giving us menus, she did not return for 15 minutes. When she finally did return we ordered a couple cocktails and asked for a wine list before ordering food. She took another 10 minutes to return with a wine list. We ordered a $100 bottle of Justin Isosceles which we learned was not in stock. She offered us a $140 dollar bottle of wine instead, not attempting to find something of similar price or varietal. We ordered dinner and struggled to fit 4 entrees on the tiny tables. The service was condescending and inattentive. The overall wait time was ridiculous, as the meal took nearly 2 hours for what should have taken half that time. This is not a pre-theater restaurant. This is a nightclub with food. However, the food was great, the atmosphere was amazing, and overall, the waitress became more accommodating after we ordered a $140 dollar bottle of wine.

This place is not a one size fits all kind of club, you come here and you better dress nice ( unless you're wealthy). The drinks are okay, the food is okay, but its not all about that. It's about dancing and being in a unique environment. Great for celebrations and birthdays, if you're into the club scene. Not recommended for families, or couples! If you are in your 20's have a blast! It's built out of an old powerplant and very unique, its classy in a weird way but still classy.

Came here for happy hour with our son who lives in LA. we come from NY and are used to different but this place was the best. Located in basement and is dark, so be careful until your eyes adjust to the darkness.but your eyes will adjust in a few minutes. Come early so you can walk around and enjoy the decor, they fill up fast. Were only having cocktails & snacks, ordered Bavarian pretzels with honey mustard, excellent even served warm. TV's all around running silent 20's movies which will give you a few laughs. The atmosphere here adds to your experience, food is great and the service is excellent, our waitress couldn't do enough for us. Ordered house specialty of Choc. Chip cookies, as a baker they were the very best I ever had. Try this place you won't be disappointed.

Booked the space for a private event while still under the old management. The business changed hands, and while I was nervous about the change, I was MORE than pleasantly surprised. Amazing food, great service from management to tech guy to cocktail servers. Fantastic space!

love the scene here ... you'll feel like you are at some underground club.

Came here for a true LA bar experience. It's a very posh bar with absolutely stunning views of a restored factory. Pianos, beautiful dim lighting with restored mechanical equipment: totally unique! Book a table at their latest seating time of 9 pm: each person must spend a minimum of $50 to book a table which is fine if you plan to order dinner and do drinks/party. They have 3 performances every hr after 9:30 which are amazing! The DJ is great: mixes songs you couldn't think would be mixed into one! The dress code is strict: no ripped jeans, collared shirt. A must in LA!

This is, I suppose, one of the "in" places in downtown LA. it's a 3 story basement private coal fired electricity generating power plant, long disused, until a business genius decided to make it into as weird a club that he could. This includes many screens with strange, animated films. The patrons dress for the occasion. We had a great time, absolutely would go back on our next trip to LA.

My friend brought me here, I really liked the way the bar was designed. Seating is very comfortable! The music has a laid feel. I did not like the Hibiscus shot though, it tasted like licorice. I did try another drink though. The waitresses were really professional! This place is for a mature laid back crowd! Loved it!

Bring guests here and blow them away how hip you are. This special place takes you back to the 20's with all the charm and magic of a really special speak easy.

Yes, very trendy, very hipster-ish. Steampunk to the max. But the Edison is actually a really cool venue to have a few drinks and enjoy the show. The ambiance is worth the $15 cocktails. Bartender Paul Piani makes a mean gin cocktail by the way (thanks again...). We didn't eat there so can't comment on food, but the booze was great ;)

I love the decor, the music and the atmosphere. It's all amazing. We had a reservation on a Saturday which meant a min spend of $50pp, but that was easy done. We shared some light bites and they were all delicious + the cocktails were awesome. The shows were nice to watch too. It was a great way to catch up with friends we hadn't seen in a while. The time flew by which is an indication we were enjoying ourselves. It was an enjoyable Saturday and I'm glad we went. We will return when next in LA. Be sure to book so you don't have to queue and you are guaranteed a table.

Despite our reservation booked on Open Table a week in advance, management didn’t email us until 2 minutes!!! before our reservation time to let us know the entire venue was closed for a private party on Dec 7, 2019. AGM Louis met us outside, without immediately offering up an apology or explanation, but informed us that we should contact GM AP@theneverlands.com, and that they would reply to my email with “something that will make you very happy” for their mistake. We sent an email that night, but unfortunately, it’s four days later and we still haven’t heard back from The Edison.
Great spot for drinks
Went here a while back, only getting to wite about my experience now. Great Decor, Fun Vibe, Waitresses dressed as fairies wheeling trollies filled with strange shots. Ordered Sliders, with these beautiful fries, really tasty. Music was good too, get down there for a fun time
