Best Brunch

By Samantha B |

I wanted brunch. You provided it. The best part: better flavor, better options, and better coffee than "a broken egg".

Excellent

By Eric G |

Great omelets and great service. I couldn't find any bad choices on the menu. They certainly know their way around eggs and egg choices.

Excellent Breakfast!

By Mark A |

Formerly The Egg & I, the name has been changed to First Watch (Colonnade), but the ambience, food and service are as good as others have noted. We were staying at the Omni Colonnade, and First Watch is easy walking (or driving) distance a few blocks Northwest on the I-10 access road. We got there about 9:30 on a Sunday morning, and only waited for them to clean a nice booth by a window (1 minute). The omelettes and sides were very good, as were the servers (more than one stopped by to refresh coffee, water, and make sure everything was OK). We would be happy to return the next time we're in town

Great food, friendly staff, reasonable prices

By LaurieVan |

Great breakfast! I've never had eggs as good as the Wisconsin omelette here. Yum! Our server, Cameron, was attentive and funny. The whole staff was warm and welcoming. Wish we lived closer so we could visit more often!

Fantastic Breakfast

By Mommabearsmith |

The great service is what you notice first at Egg & I. That's quickly followed by the quality of the food. These folks know eggs. I like mine over medium. They come out perfect every time. The apple granola pancake is awesome in both taste and size, which is big enough to use as an afghan! Potatoes are crispy, bacon is thick, special requests are met with a smile! .

This restaurant was right near our hotel so we decided to try it. We had to wait about 40 minutes and the food was just average. The food was not bad, but It was nothing to make me want to go back. I ordered the Mexican omelette, and my wife ordered steel cut oats The coffee was below average in taste.

Consistently Great Breakfast

By CherylinTexas |

I have eaten at these restaurants in many cities & they are always great. Love that they bring a thermal coffee pot to my table so I never have to look around for the waitress when I want more. Food is fresh, cooked as I request & service was attentive without hovering. Have never been disappointed!

Great Eggs Benedict!!

By BeBe53207 |

I consider myself an "eggs Benedict" critic --if prepared correctly, then everything else on the menu will be ok!! And in this encounter, they were perfectly cooked!! Poached eggs must be runny!! No exceptions! The hollandaise sauce wasn't the greatest but the eggs WERE!! And the service was excellent!! Hot coffee in a pitcher on the table and fresh squeezed juice--a perfect breakfast!

Great food but long wait

By Tyler M |

The wait to sit down wasn't but ten minutes or so but as soon as our drinks were brought to us we didn't see our waitress for another 20-30 minutes and our food still wasn't ready. The food was great but not worth the wait.

Over-rated for the price

By NiftyGrammy |

I like Egg & I but the food and service are so up and down you can't depend on it. Returned because I love how (when done correctly) the waffles have a perfectly and lightly crisp exterior and a perfectly moist interior. No such luck this time so I was pretty disappointed. The eggs were ordered over-easy but came pretty much over hard with barely any runny yellow. Service was friendly but not attentive enough. We waited for coffee and a busier noticed hubby looking around. Although loaded with a tray of dirty dishes he asked if he could help. Really appreciated that and wish our assigned service had done the same.

Not a great experience for the price

By NiftyGrammy |

Came here for breakfast. Hadn't been here for a while. Had some problems with service and food. It used to be better. Hollandaise was broken and tasteless. Not worth the calories. Poached eggs ordered soft were barely runny. Although we got there at 6:30 a.m. there was a gnat in my water. Corned beef hash tasted like the kind that you get out of the can. Service was very nice but slow, especially for a nearly empty restaurant. The place is really expensive for the food and there are no options for smaller portions. We visit many restaurants for breakfast in the San Antonio area and for the price (average $9 per plate not including coffee) the food does not warrant it.

Tasty

By GTNW0698 |

We only went here once but the food was plentiful and tasty. Seating was quick and service was excellent.

Worst experience

By Eduardo A |

The worst experience ever. After an hour wait for our food, we finally decided to leave. Spend your money elsewhere. This place is definitely not worth it. Very inept server and manager. I will never be back and will spread the word to my family and friends to let them know not to come here.

Delicious Breakfast!!

By sbT9238BI |

The Restaurant is of highway I-10 and walking distant to a hotel, other eateries, etc. It’s an open area with plenty of space, tables and chairs to include booths. There are tables outside to enjoy your meal. Kayla our waitress was great and very attentive to us. Large open areas with little privacy but you’re able to have a conversation with no interruptions. The environment was friendly, relaxing, and free spirit. Both breakfast plates were outstanding and I am glad we stop to eat. Check it out and enjoy!

Great place for breakfast

By Ana P |

We stopped in before heading out to the airport and had a great breakfast. The Egg & I had all of the comfort food breakfast plates covered as well as a few seasonal variants that we tried out. Our group had the carrot cake pancakes, apple cinnamon pancake and the cinnamon chip waffle. They were all very good. There was a quick turnaround at the restaurant so we didn't have to wait very long to get a seat.

Great Food; Questionable Service

By Matthew N |

We visited this restaurant due to its proximity to our hotel while staying in San Antonio. They close at 2 p.m. and we arrived around 1:40. As soon as we walk in the door, the staff in the kitchen look to the clock to see what time it is. We are seated by a very lovely woman and our server comes by for our drink order just a bit after that. Before we get our drinks, I hear an exchange with her manager and her say "I didn't seat them!" as if we shouldn't be sat so close to closing time. I have never felt my business was less wanted in a restaurant than this time and it made me very uncomfortable. The waitress rushed our ordering and the manager kept eyeing us to see when we were finished. Not great customer service and definitely could use some improvement. The food was great and I would recommend it as long as you go during the hours they want you to visit.

Solid. Nothing Special but good.

By Dominic23 |

I try to rate places for what they are, without overthinking things. This place is clean, has good service, and fair food for the price. It's better than McDonald's but not better than what I can make at home. Yet, if you are traveling, can't cook, or are too lazy, this is the place for a good healthy breakfast.

Solid breakfast chain. They do it right, clean, and healthy.

By insider64 |

Went every day for breakfast while in San Antonio. Great service, and extremely well executed breakfast!! They care about how they do what they do and it shows. Well done!!!!

Great food

By fedzman |

Very surprised at the quality of the food! It was amazing and not too expensive. I ordered the biscuits and gravy and it was really good and much more food than I expected.

Great Breakfast

By Tony S |

Choices, choices, choices. Their breakfast menu is huge. We only get to eat here when we come to San Antonio but every time we've been here it has been great. I especially like the green chili items.

Perfect pancake--huge!

By Val |

I had the blueberry pancake with eggs. The pancake, although singular, was huge and delicious. I would recommend eating here, although it's a little pricey for a breakfast place.

Great casual breakfast

By Wendy F |

My husband and I stopped here while visiting San Antonio. I opted for the eggs benedict, which was delicious. We also ordered a carafe of their pecan flavored coffee and it was SO good - we ended up drinking way more than we probably should have. We were told that we would have a 25 minute wait which was actually closer to 15. We also got a mystery envelope when we told the waitress that it was our first visit - the contents are an unknown discount to use towards our next visit. I doubt we will be there again anytime soon, but we will definitely visit again should we be in the area.

Very good breakfast

By Barboo83 |

I had a tasty egg white omelet off the healthy menu with mushrooms, tomato, spinach and green peppers topped with avocado slices served with wheat toast, cup of fruit and side of grilled asparagus. Everything was very good! Great prices for a quick delicious breakfast!

Underwhelmed to the point of disappointment

By Manbyk |

On an average Friday morning we were quickly seated and our drink orders taken. My wife's Kale drink was as advertised, refreshing. Our order of a Parisian Benedict and a veggie laden benedict were quickly taken as well. That's where it all slowed down. Either the wait or kitchen was short staffed and it showed. By the time our orders arrived both were beautifully prepared, a bit overcooked and although not cold, room temperature. Rather than risk sending the orders back fearing another long wait we simply chalked it up as where not to have breakfast in the future. If that were not enough there was a long line waiting to pay. A recommendation is the on-duty manager get involved, talk to the patrons, ask how their meal is, keep the staff moving. There may or may not have been a manager on duty given the seeminly lack of management?. Two Eggs Benedicts, orange juice, kale juice, $28.00

Wonderful coffee and breakfast place

By Anh0512 |

Absolutely LOVE their hazelnut coffee. Food is always very very good. Avg. plate ($8-$12 per person plus coffee $2.59) visit will cost more than IHOP but tastes MUCH better. Worth the price! Wait staff is hit or miss (probably the only "downfall"). Otherwise great. A place I would take anyone visiting SA.

New place for lunch

By Jill G |

This restaurant was within walking distance to our hotel where we were staying on business. We came for lunch and the service was spotty even though it wasn't terribly crowded (there was no wait). Most of us got our food on time, but one in our group did not and we had to ask a couple of times when it would be served. Small place with limited food choices, but the salad and half sandwich I had were good. Not Earth shattering or anything, just good. Something different with standard lunch fare that isn't fast food.

Love this place for breakfast

By ABE49 |

The Egg & I serves a very good Eggs Benedict. Also their bacon is very good also. They stay busy but are efficient in getting people in and out. Try it.

Service was the only issue

By Chris C |

We stopped in today (on a Tuesday), at 945am. It was not a peak busy time. While the food was decent, the service was actually pretty bad. It took about 40 minutes from ordering to our food to arrive at the table. I have no idea why. No explanation was provided and no apology or discount offered. Sad as the food was decent

You´ll find great eggs benedict!!

By Degustando-Baja |

Went there 4 times in a row... amazing benedicts, although a couple of times the yolk was just a bit done, told them and brought a second one and didn´t charge it. The service is really nice and fairly fast. Scramble eggs and the fritatas are very good, but for us the winner was the Parisian Benedict. Will definitely come back. Thanx Lee Ann.

A favourite

By TheBeachUnicorn |

Very impressed with our meals here. I had a breakfast sandwich and my husband at the Greek frittata. The service was friendly and fun.

Great breakfast place

By yezid_are |

Very friendly staff, we had coffee, water and milk (for the kids) to go. Beautiful pancakes, waffles and eggs with generous portions. No wait to be seated :)

A great find

By foode217 |

The only problem is that everyone else has found this place too! Good food with many many tempting items to choose from. Hollandaise sauce is awesome! Coffee better than most. Service always good. Prices could be a little lower. Usually packed on a weekend am.

Brunch

By Bentleybeagledog |

Really wonderful service & delicious food as usual for this restaurant chain! We, our son, his wife, & our little grandchildren ate there on a Sunday morning after church. The seating was quick and efficient as they allow a call ahead to put one's name down for a table. The cleanliness, wholesome menu, and delicious coffee always coax us back to this restaurant whenever we visit this area of San Antonio.

Good food and good service

By Melanie B |

This was my first time here and it was delicious. I had the special farmers hash and that had to have been the best breakfast. There freshly squeezed orange juice was good too.

Nice, clean place, friendly staff but average food

By Diedre C |

After reading the reviews, we went there for breakfast. The staff was very friendly and the place was cute and clean. But, the food turned out to be average. I got the eggs benedict and it was okay but I really didn't care much for the ranch potatoes that came with it. They were a bit greasy. My husband got the corned beef hash, but they also were average. The meat was stringy and fatty.

So glad we stopped here!

By gawileygirl |

I have never felt so welcome, from the host to the server, all the way to the payment counter. Our breakfast was huge and couldn't have tasted better. Everything was very fresh. If we are ever in this town again we will definitely be going back!

Brekky with friends

By Steve |

Taken there by a local resident. Enjoyed the service by Jodie, enjoyed the meal, great value. Highly recommended.

Average food and odd experience.

By Jess6704 |

Was in here with my little children one morning. The table behind us were these three college kids, two guys and a female. They were cursing a little too much in their conversation. I was hoping the staff would tell them to tone it down. I know we could not have been the only ones hearing this mess. Finally after an F' word I stood up and approached them. I told them I have three little kids at the next table and their language was not appropriate. I am a shy person, so this was very hard for me to do. The whole restaurant was looking at me. The trio apologized and stopped cursing. I felt like I did the job the staff should have done. Luckily they weren't physically violent like the words coming out of their mouths. I probably would have had a fight on my hands. Staff just needs to be more aware of what is going on in their cafe or they were just too scared to tell these people to stop the bad language.

They Can Do Better

By Gordon K |

I entered expecting a treat for a meal. I left thinking they could do better. The omelet was barely warm, my wife's scrambled eggs were overdone (dry) and barely warm, and the country potatoes were very average. Plus, multiple employees kept coming by every 30 seconds and asking "Can we get you anything else?" When the waitress asked "How was your breakfast?" and we said the eggs are dry, she said "sorry about that!" We have had much better food and service at other THE EGG & I restaurants. They can do better and we will try them again.

"The EGG & I Restaurant" in San Antonio, Texas

By Kent S |

Excellent Breakfast Restaurant in San Antonio, with easy access and easy parking. Prices are reasonable, and the food is great too!

interesting

By badboyjim13 |

The food was ok for the price, the service left a lot to be desired though. It was not very crowded in the restaurant, yet it took forever to get served and to get our food once ordered, there were less than 7 tables being utilized when we were there, so can't understand why it took so long for everything.

Pretty Darn Good Breakfast

By DeeJay |

Stumbled upon this establishment after driving pass it a few times and was just curious as to how good their breakfast is. I personally enjoyed my selection, which was their special feature item "Pineapple pancake served with a vanilla extract syrup of some sort. The portion size was great and the prices are definitely reasonable. Also really enjoyed the service I revived there; our waitress was really nice and polite. I would highly recommend anyone who wants to try this place if they've never been before.

Yummy Breakfast

By Katherine L |

This is the second location for The Egg & I in San Antonio that I have tried. The other location is on Sonterra. I always get a lovely breakfast here. Whether you want a delicious omelet, pancakes, waffles or a healthy selection of oatmeal, yogurt & granola or one of their many offerings, I can guarantee that you will be happy with your selection. Open for breakfast and lunch. Enjoy!

Good But

By jvasqu11 |

We love this restaurant and my family has never had anything bad to say about our food. The only problem we had was with the service. I was waiting for a drink re fill before I tried to finish my food...I waited for over 10 min. for this to happen...When the server finally showed up she asked if I didn't like the food ( since it was sitting there not being eaten) I told her I was waiting for a drink refill. She must of been embarrassed cause another waitress brought my refill with an additional flask...Clean restrooms....

For a quick, wholesome breakfast

By P B |

I had heard of the Egg and I chain before and figured I'd grab some breakfast there while I was passing by in San Antonio. They were not particularly busy for 9 a.m. on a Wednesday so that meant I would be served quickly. The service was attentive and fast. I ordered the strawberry and banana waffle combo (two eggs and two strips of bacon). The only complaint I would have is that the eggs were overly buttery. The server offered to have them remake the eggs, but I declined since it wasn't so bad as to be inedible. Otherwise, the meal was great, and filling. Recommended for a good breakfast.

Great Experience

By YO_LOOK_AT_ME |

Totally love this place and with the exception of a few off times, the food and service has been exceptional...this visit was no different. We had to wait a bit and (thankfully) didn't get put in the back area (its where people go to be forgotten)...Fernando did a great job taking care of our group and checked in on us numerous times. Always friendly and helpful, he did a great job that day.

Maybe the Chef had an Off Day

By DRip2014 |

Had looked forward to dining with this restaurant but after having a breakfast with them, I found it lacking in what was anticipated. Ordered their Eggs Benedict. The eggs came out nearly done without much yolk left which is not how eggs benedict are served. Also just a small amount of hollandaise was on the eggs again leaving the eggs without a key ingredient. The hash browns were barely done and would normally have needed to cook a while longer for crispness. Fortunately, we ordered a waffle which was done perfectly. Another party ordered the Santa Fe dish with Chorizo which was good. I have eaten eggs benedict at many restaurants but these were the worst I have ever experienced. Kind of a shock when part of the name of the restaurant is egg!!
