Good Seafood Place

By Matt C |

Very satisfied with our experience here. Good clam chowder, huge mussels, and the Dungeness Cioppino had plenty of seafood. Service was good and the restaurant is right on the Bay.

Crab Cioppino “Blew them away.”

By Neil S |

Direct & to the point. Crab Cioppino (without pasta), is “The Best of the Best.” I’m a lifelong restauranteur from the Midwest, & retired in SDiego. This is where we bring visitors to share “Nothing at any restaurant is better than this Entre.” Substantial portions, will fill you up & even more. Broth is incredible, it’s “perfect.” Bread & garlic toast take it over the top. So good you won’t want to share, & rates right up there with Best Entre ever. Served in huge tureen. Even staff notes this is their favorite. Venue is next door to Midway Aircraft Museum, & Bob Hope Memorial. Ultimate SDiego venue for all visitors. Consume every morsel in your bowl. Pass on this review to others. Go early, no reservations. When we go, everyone orders Cioppino, & raves upon delivery, during the meal, & after. 5 Stars +. Am salivating, can’t wait till our next visit. Special tip. Don’t eat anything all day…save up for this meal.

View is the claim to fame here

By Choie82 |

Out of the 3 of us, not one of us were impressed with our meal. I got the fish tacos, one ordered the tuna steak, and one ordered a burger. Service was great and because of the time we arrived, we were able to snag a table near the window. Great view but that's about it. We know great seafood living on the Gulf and this was not it.

Food and location a plus, service was meh

By Steven H |

Great location near the marina and the famous statue of a sailor kissing his girl upon the return from war. We came for dinner as a group and the service started off excellent by the host and waiter but dropped off as the evening went on. Not sure if it was because he got busy or he became disinterested since the gratuity would automatically be added due to the size of our group. The atmosphere is notable since it’s on the water but the main floor is pretty standard with wood tables - nothing special. Our food, however was delicious and I suppose that the most important thing. I had the swordfish Cajun style and it was to die for. Moist and juicy with just the right amount of Cajun spices. Others had the scallops, tuna, and other types of seafood and no one had complaints about the food or the sides that come with the meal. We also ordered calamari appetizers and this were also tasty. The more upscale version of the restaurant upstairs has a better atmosphere but given we had been out all day we didn’t want to go change before dinner so chose the main floor. Definitely worth visiting for the food and I recommend the swordfish.

Great food and beautiful view

By ArmyPat |

The great staff here were only surpassed by the food quality! We were easily able to reserve a waterfront table for dinner and showed up a bit early to walk in the area. They actually offered to seat us much earlier than our reservation as they had a table available! Sitting out on the patio which extends over the water..... was like dining on a cruise ship. Add to that the sunset facing table and it was a perfect spot!

Head to The Fish Market for great food!

By Nana423 |

Great food, great atmosphere. We made reservations for 6:45 but managed to get there an hour early. Since they had seating available we were seated immediately on the patio. Our table was overlooking the water. Nice view of all of the watercraft as well as NAS North Island. My husband and I share our entrees so we ordered the fish and chips combo (1 piece of cod with 3 prawns). Cooked to perfection. Nice flavor. Also ordered the Arugula, Avocado, and Asparagus salad. Beautiful salad served with mandarin orange with an orange vinaigrette. So light and very tasty. We stuck around long enough to be able to share their strawberry shortcake and some coffee. Lovely end to a lovely meal. Sam was our server and she was wonderful! Very pleasant and great attention to detail. This was a great experience with great food and great service. Highly recommend this lovely restaurant.

Excellent

The best fish and chips we have had and fast service found a table and didn’t wait long and they were ready.

Very popular for good reason

By Peter P |

Make a reservation! Even on a rare rainy day in San Diego, we would not have gotten in without one, even though the place is huge. Anyone who likes seafood is going to rate this place among the very best to enjoy it. Fresh product, skillfully prepared. I watched many dishes go by and every one looked perfect. Our server was more than pleasant and very knowledgeable about the menu items. Like many other places, they do not take cash or checks, only credit or debit cards. Get used to it; it is the way things are going.

Lunch overlooking the bay

By TodandTiff |

We walked over for lunch after touring the USS Midway. So glad we did. The wait is worth it to sit outside. Beautiful view of the bay. We shared a bowl of the New England Clam Chowder. I had the swordfish tacos and my husband had the tuna melt. Both were amazing. Our server was attentive and kind. Absolutely wonderful. I highly recommend

Request outside dining

This is one of the better seafood restaurants we have dined at in a while. We started w/ a large bowl of New England chowder along w/ cheese bread topped w/ Parmesan. Was delisc. Also, shared a plate of oysters. We highly recommend.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

By Alan N |

Started off as a circus as we were escorted to our table only to find out it was taken. After consultation at the Hostess stand, we were shown another table only the opposite end of the restaurant. Didn’t like being bounced around like that but that’s just me. Service however is when things started to improve. Quick service and food came out quickly. Clam chowder was one of the best I’ve had in a long time. Very creamy with lots of clams but a tad too much potatoes. It was still outstanding. Swordfish tacos were delicious but crispy fish tacos was disappointing. Price expensive but you’re in Down San Diego. I’d go back just for the clam chowder.

Great customer service

By Ana Medrano |

We ate here on February 27. The food was amazing, same with the customers service. Thank you Dave our waiter for making it a smooth experience.

Best experience

Delicious and fresh seafood food and the best service! A must visit place in San Diego. If you want to spend your time with amazing view and best view, then you should go there.

A sea food factory, good food

Friendly, fast service. Fresh fish, great menu, good view of the bay. A bit of a tourist stop, but always pleasant

Great place! Highly recommend

Excellent experience here. Fantastic clam chowder! Fantastic shrimp salad sandwich. Fantastic home made style chips! Waitress was great! Atmosphere outside by the harbor was great.

Could Have Been Great With a View

By seeking_seashells |

Great location on the water. We walked in on a cloudy Saturday afternoon and the restaurant was about 15 percent full. We were offered a table in the "glass room." There were 2 tables out of 5 occupied on the water side and we were invited to sit across from those tables against a wall. I asked if we could sit by the water at one of the 3 empty tables and the hostess left to check, came back and said no, they were reserved. Spoiler - they were still empty when we left 45 minutes later. Why do restaurants do this???? Could have been a 5 star review. Oh well, onto the food... We had a simple lunch - bowls of clam chowder and French bread. I thought the chowder was perfect - thick, lots of potatoes and clams. Good flavor. Companion thought it was a little too thick. The French bread was basic - not hot or toasted with some whipped butter.

Paying for location

By Wanderer |

Paying for the location on this one. Whilst there is a lot of fish on the menu there was a little lack of creativity I thought with the dishes. Garlic prawns main was swimming in butter (I didn’t know there was such a thing as too much butter but in this case, I was taught so!) Partner had crabs legs which were slightly over cooked and difficult to get out of the shell, experience ordering in the past ks that it usually sides out more easily, and the tools given to him to pick out the meat were poor past a nutcracker he had to rely on knife and fork. Service good and friendly, however seemed obsessed with clearing plates even while people were still eating if they spotted someone had finished they would just lean over people eating and swipe the plates away.

Great place to visit!

By Jim N |

Great weather and lots of places to see. Trolly is an amazing way to get around! Restaurants galore!! Just a fun place, little Italy, gaslight, Sam Ysidro, Tijuana Carlsbad beach and on!

Evening show!!!!

By Simona M |

We had dinner at this restaurant one of our nights in San Diego! The terrace is equipped with heating stoves if the sea breeze is a bit too cool!!! Tiffany, the waitress who served us was particularly attentive and helpful!! He served us with kindness and patience for all our needs advising us on the dishes to take!! Delicious appetizers and first choice!!! The photos will help you understand!!!

Mediocre place

By R J |

It was mediocre from the start. Tables were close together. It was very noisy. We were put at a table right at the bussing station so we could see all the dirty dishes. Out of the 7 tables crammed in our area, 4 of them had crying children. We were there at 7 pm, so not the usual early “family” hour. Shrimp cocktail was not very good and it had very little red sauce in the dish. I ordered sea scallops and she brought out sea bass. Came back with just the side dishes after taking off the sea bass. I told her I wanted new sides that would be hot once they got my scallops ready. Scallops were just OK. My husband got the halibut which didn’t have much flavor. Au gratin potatoes were excellent but green beans had some kind of seasoning making them too spicy for my liking. Rice and cole pretty good. We chose not to get dessert even though we were there for a birthday. $160 with tip and we both left very disappointed. Would not go back to this restaurant.

Great Family Dinner

By Jennifer |

We went for a late dinner on a Tuesday night. Got sat much sooner than promised. It was cool outside but we wanted to try to sit out by the water with the outdoor heater. Our waitress was so nice and recommended a few things. While waiting for our food the wind picked up and it got so cold. Our waitress found us a spot inside and helped us move in quickly! We got the sourdough rolls, the crab spinach artichoke dip for starters. Our daughter got fish and chips which came with ice cream ❤️. I got the mahi mahi with fish rice and fries and my husband got the swordfish with Brussel sprouts and fries. I will say I liked his swordfish better, but no complaints! Top notch food and staff and location.

The Emancipation Trip

By L D J |

I stopped by this restaurant while walking along the pier in San Diego. I sat at the bar because I only wanted an adult beverage. I ended up ordering 2 long island iced teas. They were very tasty! The bartender was very friendly and attentive. This restaurant provides an excellent view of the pier! The next time I come back, I'll try their food menu.

This was the dish I dream about!

By Linda Denton H |

After a tour of the Midway, my husband and I took a brief stroll by the bay to arrive just as this beautiful and large restaurant opened. We were promptly seated at a window table with an incredible view of the bay. The wait staff were cheerful, knowledgeable and efficient, and our food surpassed our expectations. My husband’s wedge salad with salmon was beautifully plated and tasted as wonderful as it looked. My garlic grilled prawns swam in an ideal simple sauce of butter and white wine and were cooked perfectly. My only hope is that I might replicate this at home!

Excellent sea food in San Diego!!

By who_we_talkin_about |

When you're in San Diego, you have to go for sea food and the Fish Market did not disappoint. The food was outstanding!! The view looking out over the harbor at two air craft carriers was inspiring. Strongly recommend.

Good Food but Inattentive Staff

By Omar D |

The views from this restaurant are spectacular. Even though the food was good (not great), the staff was inattentive and the service was poor. Also, they added a 4% 'operational cost' charge to the bill that doesn't go to the wait or kitchen staff. Rather, the manager told me it goes to paying the water and electric bills! Quite shocking! At first, the manager said she cannot take it off the bill, but once I called her out that she is not legally allowed to add such a charge, she (very) grudgingly said she could comp one item off the bill. I told her to keep the money and I walked away. Overall a bad experience at this place. It has a lot of potential, but management needs to either be changed or be trained.

How is it possible to destoy the best of seefood ingrediences?

By Ole Eirik Håtun |

Is it even possible? To destoy these fantastic ingrediences! All food was cold - But it should have been warm. And the chef surely dont know how to make seefood taste good! Terrible!

Tasty and fresh seafood

By Panda2go |

Expensive but very tasty and fresh seafood. Friendly staff with waterfront view. Nearby the downtown tourist attractions.

Lunch

Try the “Lazy Man” cioppino!

By Laurel |

We dined here in 2020 as Covid shut down the travel industry. We had such a great meal and experience that we couldn’t wait to return. This trip we visited twice and had “The lazy man” cioppino with fresh fish assortment, delicious tomato sauce and fettuccine. …. Both visits. Caesar salad and fresh sour dough bread added to a great meal. We were lucky to have Naz serve us both nights. She was great with the splitting details and made for a fun, delightful meal. Thank you Naz. We hope we don’t have to wait 4 years to come back…

Friendly. Fantastic view and food!

By Robin S |

This place is fantastic! I was blown away by the staff and also the food! This should be a “don’t miss” place while in San Diego.

A can't miss spot in San Diego

By Rodneyc1234 |

One of our favorite places to eat in America. Came to San Diego for 4 days and eat there twice. Once for lunch and once for dinner. Great spot to look out on the water and Coranado Island.

A wonderful dinner experience

By Tina F |

I was visiting my son in San Diego and wanted good seafood with a water view so I found this place on TripAdvisor. My concern was that it was a tourist trap, but it was actually a great find. It’s in a wonderful location next to the SS Midway and the Kiss statue on the waterfront. The hostess was kind to get us a table next to the window and our server was friendly and helpful. We started with the garlic bread topped with crab meat. It was divine! Then we shared a Caesar salad and the halibut, and it was well seasoned and very tasty. I would definitely return.

Should have gone to Red Lobster.

By Tamara J |

It's been years since we've been to San Diego & the Fish Market. I will say time hasn't been kind to The Fish Market. We arrived a bit late but were greeted warmly upon arrival. Our table was by the water, a nice view & one that would have been even better during the day. Service overall was good if a bit slow at times. We started off with the Oysters Rockefeller. They came out hot and ready. While very tasty they were also overdressed. We ordered the Alaskan Halibut & Sea Scallops for our entrees. The Halibut was overcooked - so dry sawdust would have been easier to swallow while the scallops were nicely cooked and moist. Our sides were - white rice, carrots, & scalloped potatoes. The carrots were dime store frozen carrots - nothing special, the schoolped potatoes were dry, and the rice was rice. For dessert we had the special of the season - apple crisp. The apple crisp was store bought apple pie filling topped with crumble, a scoop of ice cream & caramel drizzle. It was barely warm. For the price one would expect more. Fresh carrots and ingredients. Fish that isn't overcooked. I've had better seafood at Red Lobster for less. For a memorable seafood dinner and night out in San Diego before leaving town - this dinner and dining experience had us leaving with a feeling bereft, lacking instead of being satiated.

Yummy soft shell crab

By FernVancouver |

Excellent quick service on a very busy day. Not cheap but super selection of food and drink. Take out/deli was busy too. Would highly recommend.

Seafood with a view

By metswin |

The food was great. The service is great. Matt, our server was very knowledgeable and friendly. The view was spectacular overlooking the bay at sunset. Would recommend you make a reservation for an outside table you’ll enjoy it.

Always a good idea!!!

By C. Landa V. |

I can’t be in San Diego without visiting the Fish Market. It never disappoints. Even when it was full they found a very nice table for us. Our waiter was amazing!!!! We had the best oysters ever and a delicious Clam Chowder sitting outside with some Champagne watching the sunset!!! What a plan!!!! Will go back very time!!!

Overcooked tough flavourless fish. Very disappointing

By gelegentlich |

It is supposed to be a restaurant serving fresh fish. This was super disappointing. The fish (Mahi Mahi) was absolutely overcooked and flavourless. Super tough. The sides were disappointing too

Absolutely TOP

By Persian Gulf |

Very nice welcome, friendly waiter, very delicious starters and main courses, portions were plentiful, prices are a bit high but quite justified in the quality

Best Seafood to bring your visitors

By Cathy DelR |

We took my aunt here back in September and then this year my husband and I visited this restaurant in February this year on a Saturday at lunch. We didn't want to join the crowd so we went for lunch. The fish and their seafood platter that looks like soup is really very good. Last time I also had the fish and chips . Clam chowder soup and appetizer calamari are both delicious. Our server, Conrad is the best. Last year in September 2022 our waiter was Jose. We went Thursday at lunch time. Nothing bad to say but of course because it is fresh the price is higher than usual restaurants. It is worth it.

Mediocre at best

By Scott |

What they did very well. When I alerted them to a fish freshness crisis, they immediately replaced my entire fish and chips dinner. They did so without question. Overall the service was very slow but very friendly. What they did not do such a good job on. This review is not based on the problem I had with my fish. This review is based on the general quality and taste of the food. The fish was okay, but the chips, the french fries, were old and stale. A good indicator of the freshness of a restaurant food are the sides. Scooping up fries from an old, dried out batch is pure laziness. The wedge salad was as lackluster as possible. It was smaller than most, and the blue cheese salad dressing tasted like that from a jar. It had a slightly vinegary taste versus an ultra creamy taste. The dining room was very nice, and my table was comfortable. The bathroom was tidy.

Totally un-American procedures

By Senor_Ricardo |

The food was wonderful, the scenery breathtaking, but don't accept my cash! Bizzare in my opinion. I thought I was in a foreign country when they wouldn't take several of my Benjamin Franklin bills! What's next? They only take Bitcoin next? I call BS!

Amazing and unexpected treat

By mila b |

We ended up sitting at the bar waiting for a table outside with the view. What a lucky break - the bar was equipped not only with a great selection of drinks but also with a full kitchen. Dante cooked a fabulous meal, right in front of our eyes, tweaking our selected items from the menu to our favorite flavors. It was truly a special treat well worth skipping the view. We hope to go back soon and not even wait in line, just grab those front row seats at Dante’s bar!

Delicious seafood

By Rina |

Excellent experience. We were upstairs at Top Of The Market. The chilled seafood platter was spectacular and the sea bass was delicious.

We really liked this place

By Edwelsh |

We had a beautiful table at the seaside window, where we watched boats and birds glide by. Jacelyn was our server and she was on top of it. She offered suggestions and kept my quickly disappearing iced tea glass full. We started with the Crab & Spinach Dip at $19. It was on the large size and came with tasty soft pita points, we both really enjoyed it. Since the app was so big, we decided to share the Fish & Shrimp Combo for $26. We went with scalloped potatoes as a side, much better than the fat fries that are usually served with it. Since we shared a meal, we had room for Key Lime Pie, a bit pricey at $12, but it was really good. It was a little more than we would usually spend on lunch, but it was late, we were hungry and we had a great table, so we didn’t mind splurging.

Good location nice food.

By Steve C |

Great location with super views out over harbour. Lovely food sensible portion sizes. Friendly staff good service. More casual than website indicated but ok.

Fish Market Foodies

By Stacy L |

Went here for dinner after visiting the Midway. We were amazed at the variety of fish offered. Our family enjoyed it all and we were so excited to try out their different offerings. We were a little cold and they didn’t turn on the heat until after we were halfway through our meal. So it was a little cold, but overall Okay.

Nice Seafood Meal, Somewhat More Expensive

By Paul H |

I had a nice meal here. As a solo I had no trouble getting a reservation on a Saturday night (albeit somewhat early). The service was friendly and prompt. I’m not really a ceviche expert, but my ceviche appetizer was quite good. The swordfish entrée was good, and I also have to comment that the vegetables were properly prepared—not overcooked, but flavorful and still crunchy. My dessert was tasty enough, but was not as tart as I would hope for in a key lime pie. Note that they do not have their own self-parking; in addition to their valet parking they share paid public parking with the USS Midway. But it is a large lot and I had no trouble finding a space.

A table with a view

By BronteBucket |

Mixed feedback from our visit. There were lots of positives about our visit including: we had a seat on the terrace overlooking the water and aircraft carriers in a prime spot which was lovely and our waitress was extremely professional and helpful. My husband ordered the Mahi Mahi which he really enjoyed with a lovely sauce, rice and green beans. Unfortunately I did not enjoy my fish tacos very much - lots of ingredients but not much flavour so that was disappointing. Think I just chose the wrong thing. But overall a lovely way to spend a hour or so watching the world go by on the waterfront.

Good Selection, Well-Prepared, in a Nice Location

By DennyCraneEsq |

My experience started off a little odd. My wife and I were touring the USS Midway, and bought Chinese food at Cafe 41. After two bites each, we tossed $30 of soggy, strange-tasting stuff in the trash. We could see The Fish Market from where we were seated, exited the Midway, and walked over. Ultimately, I had a great tasting piece of grilled mahi with vegetables. There were a few glitches though, largely due to the fact that I cannot eat scallions or fried food. That limited my choices. Unfortunately, the menu did not state that my first choice was pan fried, and I had to return it. I concluded that anything less than a dinner was not suitable for me, so I ordered the grilled Mahi. By the time I got fed, I was somewhat cranky, but I enjoyed the meal. The sourdough rolls are excellent, though no longer free. And, the rolls took a long time to arrive, appearing after we had our entrees.

Great location, right next to the USS Midway.

By Koenigralph ⛑👑⛑️ |

Located right next to the USS Midway, with unobstructed views of the impressive warships The service was very nice and efficient. The food was good but not anymore Ambience: where to have a clear view of aircraft carriers Price / performance: not cheap to recommend: Especially if you combine it with visiting the USS Midway

Great location , good food

By Alireza123 |

We went there for dinner. Great location and fantastic view. The restaurant atmosphere is nice and family type. The food was very good and price was reasonable. The staff were kind and fast. As a tourist I like it very much because in San diego sea food is a very good choice and the restaurant is attractive in heart of City

Great atmosphere & great food!

By JW Wilson |

We ate outside- such a great atmosphere! I had crab legs & my husband had swordfish tacos. Both were very good. Great service-

Great food, service and views of the Bay

By T&A Adventures |

We arrived for dinner near the time for the sunset and had great views. The food was really good and served fairly quickly. The Guavaritas are really good as well. The restaurant is next to the USS Midway. I would definitely eat here again if I'm in this part of San Diego!! Dont pass it up!!

Overrated

By Herb I |

During a visit to San Diego, we went to the Fish Market downtown. The restaurant was very highly rated on Trip Advisor, but we found the food and atmosphere overpriced and overrated. The appetizers were pleasantly presented, but bland. Similarly, the Fish and Chips and the Moroccan swordfish were bland and at the level of a chain restaurant. Service was good if not overly attentive. All in all, a disappointing dinner experience.

Just average

By Mark morter |

Had lunch here while waiting for our hotel room to be ready. View of the bay is awesome! My daughter had the salmon and she said it was good. I had a tempura batter fish. Came with the head and tail on. Probably should have mentioned that when I ordered. Fish was a little overcooked.

Great view, great food, great services, and great atmosphere

By FuzzyBeesMom |

When looking at this restaurant, it is irresistible to visit this place, and it is also irresistible to leave. Menu items are antiquated such as grilled fish with scalloped potatoes. However, they, as the name indicates, does fish right. Very fresh. While the menu may be more traditional, drinks are modern. My husband and I enjoyed Passion Fruit Margaritas. They were delicious. It was our last day in San Diego – literally about 3 hours before we flew out of the airport, and we would love to come back and take more time to dine at this place.

Great view. Was here 30 years ago.

Here for happy hour. Great view and the staff is very nice. Had oysters & mussels. All good. Are here 30 years ago!! Wine was good too

Very nice dinner

By hbhakh |

We had a very nice dinner at the Fish Market. We had reservations and were seated immediately. It was a clear evening and we had a seat by the window with a great water view. The menu is mostly seafood and has a nice variety. The ceviche appetizer was very good and was plenty to share. My cioppino was excellent and full of seafood. My wife enjoyed seafood. Service was very good. Prices are reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. We definitely go back

Great Meal in a Great Atmosphere

By Darren Thompson |

We stopped in mid-afternoon after visiting the USS Midway. Views of the bay were awesome and we suggest a seat on the back deck (waterfront) if the weather allows. Amazing views! Our server was professional, courteous, and did a nice job. Our food was excellent. We had a couple of different dishes along with an appetizer. We recommend the fish & chips, clam chowder, and salad with salmon. All were excellent dishes. No question we would return again for another great meal.

Dinner of three

By donna m |

After an hour waiting, the fish and chips were very disappointing, just a lot of batter. Poke bowl was delicious, but the crab and shrimp roll were amazing. Loud atmosphere.

Yummy!

By anne n |

This looks like it may be a mediocre tourist trap, but I am here to tell you, it was not! The food was amazing! Fish was fresh and the drinks were tasty! The bartender was so personable and helpful with what to select for dinner. It was a great place to eat! I highly recommend eating here after visiting the Midway ship!

Great views on the patio and good food

By gturay |

Came here after touring the USS Midway next door. We were seated outside on the patio and the sun helped to keep us warm and the seating gave us a very good view of the harbor, our waiter appeared quickly, explained some menu items and we ordered our food. Less than 15 minutes and our food arrived. Two of us had the fish and chips and two had fish tacos. The tacos had a fish filet and some cabbage slaw with a little sauce on it. Hard to eat due to the size of the fish piece in the flour shell. The fish and chips was a haddock piece with coleslaw, fries and tartar sauce. We needed more tartar and was provided quickly. A bit pricey, but probably standard for San Diego restaurant downtown.

Fish Restaurant with a Great View

By ladybug5 |

The Fish Market San Diego is located on San Diego Bay offering great views and next to the Aircraft Carrier Midway The service is good and the menu varied The halibut was tasty and cooked to perfection I would strongly recommend

Review Might Reflect Our Low Appetite

By Wizrapp |

We went here for a light dinner with family as we had had a bigger than planned lunch. I had the greens salad with goat cheese and it was light, but I didn’t expect the greens to be so bitter. My husband had the halibut sandwich and he was so full from lunch that he just had the fish, and not the bun. He said he had tasted better halibut. At least the meal hit the spot and the service was excellent.

Very bad service

By Mario Gervasio G |

poor service, the host canceled our reservation and after waiting for 45 minutes she laughs in my face and says that I gave her the wrong number of clients and that we must wait 45 more minutes, very bad service

Old Charm & Character...Fresh Seafood!

My friend and I enjoyed a glass of Reisling with curry shrimp and rice. I enjoyed the fish and chips and prawns combo. The food was delicious and hot.

Great seafood and location

By Gillian Coles |

Had one of the best seafood meals in San Diego here . Fish platter starter could have been a main! Really fresh. Mains were also good. Staff were professional and friendly Perfect location looking out to the water and a view of the USS Midway

Delicious fish and seafood, rest very touristy and not very loving

By BM W |

We had great fish and delicious seafood, the rest of the food on the plates has a lot of potential. The rice with the seafood was unfortunately cold and the broccoli was burnt. The tables and chairs were unfortunately only moderately clean, which is a shame because it is a really nice location right on the water.

great food on the water

Best waiter and great food

By DonandJulie |

My wife and daughter and I returned after our honeymoon dinner at Fish Market 32 years ago. The food was very good and the waiter, Scott, even better. Fantastic service, very kind man and exceedingly helpful. Went out of his way to be sure our visit was exceptional even though his shift was ending as we sat down We enjoyed the calamari and trout and the Manhattan clam chowder was excellent! Looking forward to returning.

Happy we went!

By queenofhearts7 |

We booked an outside table for a Monday night at 6:30. We were quickly seated, it was cool outside but the heaters were on. With drinks and dinner ordered, we realized how wondered it was being outside, seeing the USS Midway in the background and watching all the activity on the water. A few in our group started with clam chowder soup and said it was delicious. My husband had fish and chips, I had fish tacos then cheesecake for dessert. The food was very good, I highly recommend this restaurant.

Dinner by the sea in San Diego

By RichieSicilia |

Particular place to dine by the sea in this beautiful city. They also serve different dishes for those who do not like the fish that is still popular. We had a great poke and a delicious Cioppino, accompanied by a glass of local wine. Fast Service attentive and courteous. Prices adapted to context and quality. Absolutely recommend.

Must try!

By Monkeyah |

Great views, food, and service! Stephen was wonderful.try the crab cakes and scallops. Berry bourbon smash was also great.

Great fish restaurant

By Heather P |

Great views, good food, helpful staff, not too pricey. No reservations needed. Near Bob Hope and The Kiss sculptures, both worth stopping at. Try the curry, excellent. Also fish and chips.

Best Cioppino

By Rod K |

One of the best cioppino's ever eaten with a very thick tangy garlic marinara sauce...Have tried a lot of cioppinos most have thin soupy sauce ...love this dish..

You can´t go wrong here

By Jesus M C G |

Over and over again, this is a must in San Diego. This time it was Oyters, crab cakes and cobb with crab... white wine, beautiful sunset and conversation...

Highly recommended

By Bob W |

I went to the Fish Market for a last dinner in San Diego. The location and view are a good enough reason to go there, but the food tops it off nicely. I have nearly given up on finding a good cioppino at a restaurant, but gave their dungeness cioppino a try. It was fantastic, the best I've had in years.

Wonderful

My family had a late lunch here on New Year’s Eve, and the restaurant was bustling. Located next to the USS Midway Museum, this is a very popular spot. We had dined here a year ago and returned because of the great food and service. Our second visit did not disappoint. Our server was friendly and attentive, taking our order promptly. The appetizer and drinks arrived quickly. We ordered the crab artichoke spinach dip, which was delicious. For our entrées, my wife and I both chose the fish and chips. She opted for the two-piece fish, while I ordered a combination of one piece of fish and three jumbo shrimp, which were enormous! Although the fish was heavily breaded, it still tasted very good. We still had room for dessert, so my wife ordered the chocolate mousse, and I had the snickerdoodle bar with ice cream. Both desserts were excellent, and we left the restaurant completely stuffed. Once again, we loved the service, atmosphere, and food. This place continues to be a favorite!

Still tasty after all these years

By Donald S |

Our go to place for seafood once we're in San Diego (we ate there our first night). It never seems to disappoint, (however the bacon wrapped scallops being not on the menu was a slight one, so we ordered the 'plain' ones and as always, they were cooked to perfection and yummy. When you're downtown and you want a great seafood restaurant, that won't break your wallet, this is the place.

Rude establishment

By James M |

The worst experience I’ve ever had at a dining establishment. I had a surgical conference in Coronado, so I decided to have post Family reunion party of ten. I haven’t seen my parents in 2.5 years. At the empty restaurant at 5 pm, the hostess informed us of credit only and a 2-hour limit. I said ok and waited for 10mins to get to the group table. We asked to see if any tables were available outside and if we could break our group into two tables. The hostess rudely said not. She walked us to the table and reminded everyone that we were credit only and had a 2hour limit. Almost yelling to us. I proceed to ask if we look like we are “going to eat and run” and or homeless to keep reminding us. Hostess rudely says we tell that to everyone, and I need to talk to the manager. I discussed this with the manager, James, and he thinks we should be happy the hostess reminds the credit-only policy and 2-hour limit. We left and had a great dining experience at Del Friscos a block away. By far the worst experience I’ve had at a restaurant

Disappointed

By Amy C |

I’ve always enjoyed a visit to The Fish Market when I’m in San Diego; it’s on my must-do list. I was disappointed this visit, though. Although the view and the food were amazing as always, the service wasn’t great. And my favorite item is no longer on the menu. It wasn’t bad, just not what I’ve come to expect

Enjoyed dining at the Fish Market

By Marissa M |

Amazing harbor view while dining! I ordered the Salmon with (2) sides - the fish was fresh and tasted so good. My husband had Fish and Chips and they were amazing!

Waterfront dining at its finest

By scott b |

Nice restaurant that has inside and water front dining. Service was good and the meals were excellent. We ate there two times while on vacation. The swordfish with green beans and scalloped potatoes was really good. My wife had the lobster linguine and daughter had the fish tacos which both were good. We also had the smoked salmon pasta the second time. We would recommend any of them.

Yummy!

By lovemyDux |

This was a great place to eat! Hubby had the fresh oyster platter with 2 different kinds of oysters. He said they were fresh and sweet; definately had a different taste from each other. He also had the crab louie. Fresh fresh fresh! I had a fisherman's plater of sorts and it was fresh and delish! The prawns were huge! Came with a side of green beans and cheesy potatoes. We shared a bowl of clam chowder which was rich and creamy. Recommend a trip here.

not good at all

By Flyer50338534966 |

The salmon was honestly awful. It looked good at first but I thought it was just very dry and kept waiting to ask for butter but the server never returned. Halfway through I stopped tasting salmon and just tasted charcoal so I flipped it over and the bottom was black. My friends even said they could smell the charred. For a $30+ dinner, it was awful. The server never returned or even asked us how we were doing. I kept waiting to ask for a soda refill. I never got it and he even dismissed me rudely when I tried to ask after he took my plate. He seemed to have something against our table because he seemed attentive enough to the other tables but wouldn’t even look at our table. We did have a party of 6 and they add a gratuity so he may have been rude because he knew he could get away with it.

Beautiful view and amazing food

By Tamara N |

Made reservations and were sat by a window for a beautiful sunset. Prawns appetizer was amazing. Followed by sourdough rolls- really, really good. Our entrees were Alaskan halibut and sea scallops with au gratin potato’s, Brussels sprouts and carrots. Everything was incredible. Favorite meal in San Diego. The bartender was also our server and was very responsive and hospitable. Can’t say enough good about our dinner!

Nothing Special. i

By wemjam |

Hubby and I ate here our first night in San Diego after arriving in on an afternoon flight. We stopped here after seeing the Bob Hope Memorial and the Kissing Statue and enjoying some great shots of the USS Midway from land. It was right there so we decided to eat. They were moderately busy I would say, but not overly packed. We were seated right away and our server was very friendly. The menu was seafood heavy (obviously), but also offered other options. My husband had a cheeseburger and I tried one of their seasonal salads. Prices were quite high for what we had (but this seems the norm in San Diego in all restaurants). Our bill for the burger, salad, and one pop was $50 with a customary 20% tip. My husband said his burger was good, my salad was not though. It was a special offering and was arugula, mandarin oranges, asparagus, and walnut (I think). It had so little topping it was crazy and was very small in size. It was basically a side salad portion really and all arugula, with like 2 slices of mandarin orange, two 1” pieces of asparagus and again I think walnut pieces but couldn’t really find or see them. The dressing was also very abrasive. For the pricing I would have expected more. Again, service was good, but I wouldn’t eat here again.

Very disappointed

By Meandering Fool |

First time at The Fish Market. Parking was simple. There were several places opening up along Harbor Boulevard as we drove along. We arrived at 8:40 on a Saturday night and it was a 10 min wait. Our server greeted us in about 10 mins. My wife got a clam and mussel combo and a Chardonnay whilst I got the fish and chips plus an iced tea. We also added a prawn cocktail for an app. In total it came to $106.13. Our dinners actually took so long to arrive that our waiter brought us some sourdough and butter after about 15 mins. The bread was fantastic but that was pretty much the end of the good part of the experience. About 10 mins after the bread arrived, our app and dinners arrived. The prawn cocktail was served in a stemmed dish on a plate. The moment we moved it, the whole thing tipped over, landing on my wife and the floor. We flagged down our server for help and he returned with gloves and a dish towel to wipe up the edge of the table, and then said: “I’ll bring you another one”, leaving the prawns on the floor for the evening. Our next prawn cocktail arrived about 20 mins later but we just ate it from a distance, without moving it. The entrees were no improvement in the experience. My fish was thickly battered, very under seasoned and fell apart each time I dipped into the tartar sauce. The sauce itself was very off tasting as well. I would not order it again. My wife’s bowl of clams and mussels were good but nothing spectacular. Overall, we were disappointed with the service and the food. To top off the disappointment, our server charged us for both of the prawn cocktails, which were $19.95 each. If he had said: “Would you like to order another?” or something similar, it would’ve made more sense. I wish we had chosen a different restaurant.

Plenty of better options

By Selim W |

Arrived with a plan to sit at the bar have a few drinks and appetizers. Upon arrival stopped at the entrance by a hostess, said we would need to wait 10 to 15 minutes. 5 minutes later we were escorted to a regular table and I explained I wanted to sit in the bar area. Bar was full and all available tables, about 4 tables, had a reserved sign on them. So the hostess said she would try to get us a table. She returned and gave us a table and proceeded to explain the rules. We may stay for no longer than 90 minutes, no cash would be accepted so credit or debit cards only. Decided to leave. Spoke to a manager and explained that I had been going to this restaurant for many years and was very disappointed with how empty the restaurant was yet customers were having to wait. Also that be told what would be allowed once seated was completely unacceptable from a customer’s point of view. I refuse to go back until new management is in charge and customers are once again treated with respect. After all we are paying for it. The Fish Market San Diego where the customer is not only not right they come second or third.

Great Fish

By ladybug5 |

My husband and I visited the Fish House while on a cruise I've been to Alaska 10 times and the Fish Market in San Diego had the best Halibut I've ever had Lightly brown and flakey It can be a bit pricey but was worth the price My husband and I had a seat by the window so had great views of San Diego Bay Definitely will return

Great food, great view!

By R Deatherage |

Amazing food, really kind staff. I tried the Sea Bass and would recommend it again. This place put at asterisk on our San Diego visit.

Cioppino to test!

By Karine D |

We had dinner there and we had a great time. Reservation required, it is shielded! Fresh produce, hearty dishes. Ciopino very very good, as I like them, super hearty and very tasty. Grilled fish and vegetables good but can be a little too simple. In any case, good time and good food!

Very disappointing bland lunch

By Steves_Rickshaw |

First impression walking in: the hostess could not be less interested in her job or anybody. She had absolutely no personality. But this was made up for by our waitress who was very friendly and helpful. However the food was quite bland and thus I can not recommend The Fish Market to anyone. I had the fish sandwich which was piled high with ginger, but that’s all I could taste so I took it out, which unfortunately left no flavor at all. My partner had the fish tacos and said that the salsa had no flavor.

Beautiful table on the water with sunset views!

By PhoenixPhoenician |

Had reservations, sat at a table right above the water, beautiful view as the sun was setting. I ordered the Swordfish, it was ok, not the best I have had. My wife had the Garlic Prawn linguine, she thought it was delicious, I guess she liked her food more than I did. We each had a margarita. Overall the view for me was better than the food, if we go back i will try something different. BTW, the service was very good.

It was the views for me!

By Tiffany T |

The food, the service and views are priceless! It was easily the best food we ate on vacation. We had the blacked rock and rainbow trout was super yummy! No seasoning needed!

San Diego vacation

By Scruffybiker |

A little pricey, but being on vacation made it an easy decision! The food was fantastic! And the window views of the bay, just beautiful!!

Wish for more options when it came to style for the fish

By samantha |

Busy at the time I went (7pm). Outdoor seating is a whole different restaurant but you can still get great views from inside of the water. I got the Rockfish with the charred broccolini and fries. It was good though I do wish that the fish had more flavor but the only option was the lightly seasoned as normal or cajun style which is an extra $2. Didn't have to wait too long on the food once I ordered.

INDECENT, DIRTY, SCANDALOUS!!!!

By nickthebig |

INDECENT!!! they threw a plate of sauce on one of us; they brought me a fried calamari without calamari and full of oil; the tuna was cold and smelled; the place is dirty, full of cobwebs.

Outstanding!! Kid friendly too...

By Smitty |

Outstanding!! Stopped in without reservations and was told the wait would be a half hour, ended up being less than 15 minutes. Off to a good start already. Server was super friendly, attentive and helpful. Food came out super fast and was excellent. The manager stopped at the table and we talked wine & spirits for a bit. Never felt rushed either. It's a bit pricey but you get what you pay for in this instance. (Kids meal were only $10 and portions for all of it were large) Clam chowder was great! Would definitely eat here again!

Super location for dinner to watch the sun go down

By PM-65-UK |

Had dinner in the more relaxed down stairs part of the fish market. It is very popular with families, groups of friends and those attending local conferences. We reserved a table inside by one of the windows so we could watch the sunset over dinner (there are tables outside too, with heaters above). Staff were friendly and helpful, without being pushy. The swordfish was excellent as were the scallops. I’d definitely return.

Delicious and Amazing View

By IndianaMom2022 |

We came here looking for good seafood and boy did they deliver. The meals were fantastic and the view spectacular. It is pricey, but worth it.

Breathtaking Views and Delicious Seafood

By Chloe Wu |

Visited the Top of the Market Restaurant and had an amazing experience! The view of the city is unbeatable, and the seafood was fresh and delicious. Highly recommend if you're in the area. The ambiance is also perfect for a relaxed dining experience. Definitely coming back

Disappointed

By Brenda F |

Nice ambiance, slow service and mediocre food. The Alaskan Halibut was dry and the Au Graton potatoes had very little cheese The coconut Mahi Mahi was good. the Bokchoy not well prepared, grilled but not done well, it should have been tender but was hard as a rock

Great seafood right on the water

By John C |

My son-in-law (Chris)and I had a late lunch after touring the USS Midway. The restaurant is a 5 minute walk. The food, portions and service were terrific. I had grilled sword fish and Chris had dungeness crab. We shared appetizers of crispy octopus and oysters. We sat right on the water. I'll definitely return.

Great place by the marina

By claymaker |

I reviewed this place and it had high scores so I decided to go try it out. I got the Alaskan halibut. It was delicious. Not cheap. But I’m by the ocean and I thought this would be a great treat. Brussels sprouts or delicious and so were the au gratin potatoes. The only thing that I was taken back by the brussels sprouts had bacon butter on them, and that was not indicated on the menu. I would recommend this to anyone. And make reservations.

Dinner by the USS Midway

By TahoegpSA |

We took a chance and stopped by for dinner without reservations. Only About a 30 minute wait that might have been shorter if they’d had sufficient staff. There were quite a few empty tables. Server started off by emphasizing a 90 minute time limit on our table. Not really a great way to start out; however, she was very friendly otherwise. Mussels were good sized; although not as tasty as some and served with two small triangles of garlic bread. Mahi Mahi was just a little overcooked or may have sat too long - not certain. Green beans, cauliflower, and au gratin potatoes were ok. Key Lime pie was very good. Coffee was Luke warm and sent back. Sometimes; it is all about timing.

Our cannon and company office dinner..

By cannonater |

We just keep coming back here.. This time with the agents from our office for our annual real estate conference . Although VERY loud and increased pricing the quality was still good. Our server from Boston was the best! If you’re looking for quiet and ambience don’t sit inside. Ask for patio seating.

It’s seen better days?

By JPVM13 |

We were disappointed with the oysters that came from The East coast and there were only two types. Ceviches was good but we felt like this place was past it’s prime. Good location on the water with nice views.

If you are in this area - it's a good choice

By GBoseman |

This was our first dining experience after arriving to San Diego - located near the docks at the seaport - it was pretty empty when we arrived although we had made a reservation- it's pretty large so you may not need one - Anyway - we started with ceviche- and it was some of the best we've had since Peru .I enjoyed my crab cake sandwich and my daughters enjoyed her fish tacos - lightly battered and very tasty- the service was attentive and efficient - in all it was a very good dining experience close to the water that I would definitely recommend

Good location and mahi-mahi

By Mountainman827 |

We had the swordfish and mahi mahi with augratin potatoes and green beans. With a beer and ice tea bill was $79. Great views by the water. Service was ok. Mahi mahi was better choice over swordfish that was overcooked.

Lunch at the Fish Market

By Ilya Dumer |

I have been at this place two times over a few months. Both times the fish was overcooked and the service left much to be desired. I also find the prices too high given the mediocre food quality. I still give this place two stars instead of one thanks to the beautiful views of the bay.

Worth the trip

By Herman L |

Good sashimi. Good shrimp cocktail. Clam chowder wasn’t hot. Mango desert was good. Oysters ok. And of course beautiful view.

A Cruise, Stroll and Dinner Too!

By Anni W |

After a spectacular 2-hour Harbor cruise, The Fish Market was the perfect place to dine. Just a leisurely stroll from our pier, we walked to the restaurant, taking time along our path to gaze upon the massive Midway -- a heartfelt testimony to WWII. An array of boutiques, artifacts and memorials line The Fish Market route so that we were never left wanting for conversational topics! Seated promptly at our table, we enjoyed the stunning ocean view. Our server was attentive and patient ... and the Salmon and Alaskan Halibut dinners were excellent. It definitely was an all around fun and fulfilling day!

Greasy food with a lot of butter and mayonnaise and fat

By Omar K |

The food is from the seventies, too much fat, too much mayonnaise, most of the food is fried and the presentation of the product is really muddy, everything is very winnowed, very bad presentation of the products, nothing to see, the truth is, I would never return, I would not not recommend it.

Excellent seafood restaurant

By Ogi0 |

The place is both a seafood market and a restaurant. We stopped at the restaurant for dinner - the all-sea food was fresh and superb (recommend the scallops), the service was quick and the atmosphere casual. I recommend it for all lovers of fresh seafood.

Pleasant

By Geraldine P |

Great location by the bay. The views from the terrace are unique. Very rich food, good tasting and have new dishes that I had not seen elsewhere. The service and attention were very good.

Impossible to come to San Diego and not have lunch here. For us now a habit every time. Superb fish and beautiful view. Friendly and helpful staff.

Tuna & cheese sandwich and clam chowder

By bochitabi |

Located in Tuna Harbor Park near the Midway Museum, this is a seafood restaurant, as the name suggests. From the large windows, you can see the American ships anchored at the naval base on the opposite shore. This time I visited for lunch and ordered a tuna and cheese sandwich, clam chowder, and lager beer. The tuna sandwich with cheese kneaded into it and the rich, hearty clam chowder with lager beer were very delicious. The display case had seafood and salads sold by weight.

Good, but a bit pricey for what you get.

By Miru-chan |

Three of us went there for lunch. We had New England Clam Chowder, Fried Calamari, Oysters, and Seafood Salad, among other things. They were all good, but a bit pricey for what you get. The service was okay.

Touristy and crappy

By WD4010 |

Unfriendly and arrogant barman and poor quality of food. Felt like I was an inconvenience. Oysters were terrible and the $27 fish was tiny. Think this place must just get too many tourists due to its location.

Great place

By Joy G |

Great spot, great food, great service. We reserved a table late in the evening and got a table right on the water. Wonderful experience.

On the water

By Rob S |

Made a reservation for outdoor seating and was able to enjoy a great view of the bay while we enjoyed our meals and drinks. We both enjoyed our seafood and cocktails. Service was friendly. We will ago again next time we're in San Diego.

Wonderful Lunch

By ms1363 |

We had lunch here first day in San Diego, great place. The food and service was outstanding. It’s definitely worth a lunch or dinner when you are in the area, there are plenty of great restaurants in San Diego, this one will not disappoint.

Excellent highly recommended

By Hector Alfredo A |

My friend had already recommended this place to me many times and this time we went to try the delicacies he was telling me about and it was really delicious.

Enjoyable Lunch

By jenny |

The server was attentive & very helpful. The food was very good! We liked the oysters, but a bit expensive! The view was great! The 4% fee was insulting… Not sure if I will come back, due to the insulting 4% fee!

Getting somewhat old now.......

By Jennyx |

Been visiting this restaurant on and off for many years. While I agree the venue is lovely with its bay views, the food has become somewhat average and the premises themselves old and worn. We sat at the bar recently and the 'wall' next to us was papered over with bits of Christmas paper, another area looked as though it had mould coming through and the bathrooms are ancient. The whole place needs an overhaul. Maybe being taken over by Brigantine will bring well needed improvements.

Best fish restaurant in San Diego!

By MissAlice22 |

The best location for a fish restaurant. Fresh delicious food and the best sea view. Superfriendly staff, incredible good food especially the fish platters. If you are a fish lover you definetly should stop at this place. It is near the uss midway museum and seaport village. So you can enjoy an after lunch (or dinner) walk at the promenade.

Not worth it

By Veronica Salazar |

Amazing setting and views, seafood is great, however service is awful, the hostess was rude and unpleasant, the waitress was kind but always busy. They charge an extra 4% in your bill, when asked about they said it was so they didn’t have to change the prices on the menu. Not against that but why not put that upfront. Not a good experience.

Wish the food was as good as the service!

By SweetSusy |

The view is great. The service was phenomenal. The food was greasy. We had calamari to start and fish and chips for dinner. Both were just dripping grease. Not impressed especially for the price!

Fresh fish and great view.

By Amanda D |

Fish was really fresh and great, the view was beautiful. Not top of the line, but still great and a must do in San Diego.

So good we went back a day later

By Charles G |

Wonderful food. Some of the best clam chowder ever. Halibut was perfectly prepared. Service was bit slow, but the views are great. Very friendly people. Dinner was so good we went back for lunch a day later. If you're not in a hurry, this is a great place.

The Fish Market for a great sea food meal

By Halim AR |

My wife and I invited a friend for dinner at the Fish Market after we had a great dinner (me and my wife) there the night before. Again, the food was outstanding with a big variety menu. The service was not bad, the waitress had to put an effort to be nice. The good food made us overlook any other negative aspect. Will return to this restaurant for the good food hoping for a better server.

Super view & Great Food

By Beth S |

We made a reservation and were seated facing the windows that overlook the inlet. The service was excellent. The food choices were great for fresh fish (vs. crustaceans). The chef cooked everything just right and the meal melted in our mouths. The friends we went with plan to visit this place next time they are in town.

Mediocre at best

By Mark I |

Had reservations for lunch at 12 on Tuesday. Nearly empty. Seated by the window. Table was dirty and sticky. Ambience is lower than a fast food joint. Ordered the fish and chips. Fish tasty and lightly breaded. Rated 9/10… hardly could be better. Clam chowder was like potato gravy. No taste of clams. Could not finish. Canned Progresso clam chowder is much better. Price vs quality is not good. Would not return. Recommend only the fish and chips..

Great seafood and fish place on the water in San Diego

By Evelyn T |

After not having visited San Diego for many years, was very pleased to see this excellent restaurant and market was still here. Happy hour drinks and then other items from the menu rounded out our dinner.

Tourist Trap

By Journey781847 |

This used to be one of the best places for fresh fish and seafood. Unfortunately the quality has fallen off a cliff despite still having rather high prices. Worst meal we have had there in 20 years. Maybe it will recover from the pandemic in a few years?

We highly recommend

By traveler8961 |

We had a quality dining experience at The Fish House. Our waitperson guided us with excellent suggestions and we enjoyed the seafood and wine.

Beautiful Restaurant in beautiful San Diego

By Laura d |

Great food & service in a beautiful location. San Diego is a great City & being on the harbour is breathtaking. I love Seafood Chowder & Oysters & this place doesn't disappoint.

Good but feel nickel dime.

By Swim55 |

Good food, great view. Confused on the 4% surcharge. It's not part of the gratuity. So why not just increase prices by 4%? Is it to make the menu look cheaper? Is it to let us feel the pain of higher taxes? Do the employees make more and you want the customers to feel that business issue burden? Does it help reduce the taxes the business pays? Is it temporary? IDK... but it ruins the experience when you get nickel dimes. Prefer to see one price and let the consumer decide if the value is worth it.

Quite common really

By Mer21maid |

Apparently no bread is served in this restaurant? I was not impressed, neither by the food nor the service. It was all pretty standard, and nothing special. So disappointed, and will not come again.

A lovely supper overlooking the bay

Best Fish in San Diego

Incredible atmosphere and food is not enough of a description of this place. You must be aware some foods can sell out due to popularity so early reservations suggested. This restaurant reminds us of Spinnakers in Sausalito. Love this place.

Tap the Ruby Slippers

By copperstategal |

Sadly, the beloved Fish Market Restaurant we used to frequent since it’s opening in 1989 is no longer what it used to be. Stationed over the Coronado Bay Bridge at North Island, I and my fellow shipmates considered this the best fish and seafood restaurant in San Diego, even beating out The Chart House and Anthony’s! This was THE restaurant I would bring all visiting family members and friends to and the one we Navy members would come to for a special occasion or a long lunch. It was consistently fabulous. Never a question. But gone are the special things that made it a standout restaurant: delicious complimentary sourdough bread and butter; the bucket of mussels in wine on the menu, the outstanding customer service, even the size and shape of the wine glasses. The whole vibe has changed. Yes, Covid took its toll on the whole world, but this restaurant is not making a strong comeback. My husband and I, both of us Navy veterans now-myself retired, celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary here for late lunch, were greeted, not cheerfully nor pleasantly, by the young hostess. Wow, first impression not good especially after giving us contradictory information about bar seating to enjoy a glass of wine while we waited for our online reserved table. When I asked her a second time after seeing others walk in and take a bar seat, she was almost rude. Time to be seated and we were led to an outdoor table though we had requested early online an indoor window. Fortunately there were a few window tables open. Seated in a timely manner, our kind waiter, Rob, took our orders. We reminisced together about the old days of The Fish Market as he had been waiting there for many years. No complimentary bread so we ordered the garlic bread with our wine. Also ordered a bowl of Manhattan chowder which was only okay. Broth was ho hum and rubbery little bits of clams. Were they fresh or canned?? Really couldn’t tell you. On to the entrees: my husband’s fish and chips were good, nice breading and made with quality fish. He subbed the chips with scalloped potatoes, which he said were similar to the originals but smaller portion now. My shrimp and linguine was a grave disappointment. Nice sized shrimp but the sauce was absolutely bland. My husband, a chef, doctored it up for me with salt, pepper and extra Parmesan cheese (NOT freshly grated!!) For over $25 for this dish I was very disappointed. Rob so kindly brought us a Panna Cota dessert for our occasion. Would we return? Probably not. You know, there is a saying “you can never go back” Wish I could tap the heels of my Ruby Slippers.

Thanks for all the fish

By Mark Taggert |

Atmosphere was sort of nautical in a fish/boat sort of way. The food was well-prepared and you can tell that everyone, from the chef to the wait staff know their business. The food would have been amazing if I liked seafood, but the problem is I don't. I guess the fact that it's called "The Fish Market" should have clued me in. I happened to have a cheese burger in my backpack, which I put on my plate and cut up so I could eat if with my fork. I don't like to touch food with my hands, mainly because of germs... and given the fact that I don't like to wash my hands unless I absolutely have to, well, my hands were pretty filthy that evening. All that being said, I enjoyed the experience because the lady I was dating was stunning beyond description. I don't think there will be a second date because aside from my thing about not washing my hands, and bringing my own cheeseburger to the restaurant (which she did NOT like), I also don't like to pay for my date's meal. If she expects it on a first date that's kind of a deal breaker for me. She berated me for a plethora of transgressions before the mean was even served E.g., Why are you wearing flip flops? Could you have at least NOT worn shorts? Why are you texting people while I'm telling you about how difficult it has been since I lost my mom last month and I miss her so much!" I felt it was appropriate to bring up that first date etiquette generally doesn't include bumming me out with her personal baggage. So there won't be another date because of you know, her judgey attitude. I got up to use the restroom and then sneaked out the back without saying good-bye. I settled up with the server before bailing. I paid for both of our meals and left a generous tip. I mean to say here that I really liked the place, but I didn't really dig the fish. You know, at all.

★☆☆☆☆ – 20 Years of Loyalty Destroyed in One Night

By Drew D |

★☆☆☆☆ – 20 Years of Loyalty Destroyed in One Night I’ve been coming to The Fish Market San Diego (and Del Mar) for over 20 years. I’ve sent friends, family, business clients—always bragging about the Canadian rockfish and the legacy this restaurant held. But this recent visit? Hands down the worst dining experience I’ve had in over two decades. We hit traffic on the 5 and arrived a little late, but that didn’t excuse what followed. Our server, Dulce, was friendly but completely missed the mark on almost everything we ordered. Here’s just the short version of how bad it got: • I ordered a bottle of sparkling, a bottle of still, two Diet Pepsis (light ice), and a plate of limes. → What showed up? Regular Pepsi, lemons—not limes—and none of it right the first time. • We requested extra butter with the bread. Got none. Asked again with clear instructions for extra extra butter and more bread. Still nothing. • When the entrées came, it went from frustrating to downright unacceptable: • My Canadian rockfish was rubbery, overcooked, and tasted like canned cat food. • The au gratin potatoes were sour, the white rice was bottom-tier, and the vegetables were mush. • One of our elderly guests was given the wrong entrée and sides. The plate runner tried to fix it, but the kitchen couldn’t keep up—the whole back of house was clearly overwhelmed. And let’s talk about the ambience. It felt chaotic, loud, and unrefined—like the restaurant couldn’t decide whether it was trying to be fine dining or a noisy pier café. The lighting was flat, the energy in the room was disjointed, and it certainly didn’t feel like the kind of place you’d want to celebrate anything important. It lacked warmth, class, and any sense of identity. For a restaurant with a legacy like this, the atmosphere should command respect. Instead, it felt like a tourist churn zone. I finally had to bring over the manager, James, who to his credit, was calm, respectful, and professional. He did his best to handle it, and even brought out a small birthday dessert for our guest. But no amount of courtesy can cover up how far this place has fallen. When it came time to pay, we reminded Dulce that we had an account and gift cards tied to the Fish Market, gifted to us by a friend who loved the old menu. She failed to pass that info to James. Only after we flagged it again did James say he’d take a photo of the account number and apply the points later. Hopefully in good faith, he does. James also claimed that since the Brigantine takeover in early 2025, the quality has not changed. Sorry, but I’m not buying it. As a businessman myself, I know exactly what’s happening—cutting corners and maximizing profit. The result? A San Diego staple reduced to a tourist trap. What’s worse? We were there to celebrate. But we ended up finishing the night somewhere else just to salvage the mood. Final thoughts: This used to be a proud, iconic seafood spot. Now? It’s a shell of what it once was. You can’t charge premium prices and serve bottom-shelf execution in an atmosphere that feels like it’s lost its soul. If you’re going to water down the quality, be honest about it. Don’t insult your regulars and pretend it’s still the same kitchen. A gift card won’t fix this. A professional manager can’t hide it. And Dulce’s service—while well-meaning—was simply not up to standard. This is no longer the restaurant you remember. Stay far away.

All the food is great!! Halibut was absolutely Amazing! No “fishy” taste to it. The spinach artichoke crab dip was also amazing!!

Nice views with seafood

The views at this restaurant are very nice and nice selection for a menu for seafood. Easy to find and parking is right in front of the restaurant. Unfortunately you do have to pay for parking. Staff is very friendly. I would suggest making a reservation if you want to have a good window seat.

Good seafood choice

We hadn’t been for a seafood meal our whole holiday so went to the Fish Market for pound al dinner whilst in San Diego. We had the swordfish, ciopanno, jambalaya and clam al vongole. All dishes were very flavoursome and the fish in them really fresh. The jambalaya and clam pasta had a bit too much oil in them for our liking but the dishes were good. We waited for an outside table but were given one technically inside but with a sea view. The reflection on the glass in the dark meant we couldn’t see much so maybe it would have been a better choice for lunch in hindsight.

Lunch with a view

We were greeted by a wonderful hostess and were able to sit outside on a Saturday! It was a chilly but there were heaters to warm up. We thoroughly enjoyed the view of sailboats and speedboats. I had the swordfish which was highly recommended. It was good, but overcooked. The green beans were out of this world though - highly recommend! My husband had the spicy halibut sandwich which he enjoyed. Overall nice experience and service was excellent.

Outstanding service, food and view!

We had the pleasure of dining at the Fish Market recently and Wendy provided friendly, prompt service to accompany the great food and awesome view! My wife loved the cioppino while I enjoyed the sea bass and all of the side dishes, especially the roasted carrots. We made reservations and were seated at an excellent table next to a window with a great view of the bay. They make an excellent margarita and also have a great wine list. The evening was topped off by a free dessert after Wendy found out that it was my wife's birthday. What a pleasant surprise! Definitely a meal to remember!

Good seafood

After spending 3.5 hours on the USS Midway, my family walked over to the Fish Market for lunch. It's pricey, but the food was good! I ordered the Grilled Fresh Mahi Sandwich (with teriyaki & wasabi mayo) and my wife ordered the fish tacos. As I said, both entrees were delicious. We finished it off with dessert (chocolate mousse and blonde brownie with vanilla ice cream) which were both excellent. Definitely an enjoyable lunch.

Pleasant staff. Short wait valet parking available. Outside seating very limited

Beautiful location on water great atmosphere pleasant staff the meal I had a lunch was mediocre at best no flavor or taste to speak of until malt vinegar was added. The coleslaw was tasteless and fries barely warm. I saw others seemed to enjoy there lunch choices. Probably fish tacos are the hot I noticed more of them being delivered. Pass on fish n chips

Don’t miss this one

The food is delicious and so is the view. I had grilled swordfish with two sides, potatoes and green beans. The fish was juicy, tasty, the service was prompt, and Kevin, my waiter, attentive and knowledgeable. If you sit outside, you can enjoy the gorgeous view of the bay.

Jaye? Is that you?

Quickly - great location; how cool to have dinner on San Diego bay? And so close to most of downtown…. Food is good, pricing is good; but it’s the service that makes it work, right? I hope I get the name right, but four of us - two highly decorated military veterans - had dinner on the harbor, outside and were served by a young woman who had an interesting name. For the life of me, it was Jaye (but it’s one of those names that has a unique spelling, and she worked 1 November). ANYWAY, thank you for being so attentive, kind, and positive. And thank you for the stack of coasters to take home - you made our evening in more ways that you can know. We’ll be back. :)

Come here to eat fish, not drink booze.

Great service. Amazing views. Really super food. Mediocre cocktails not worth ordering. Stick to the wine and beer so you're not wasting money.

Waterfront Fish house

This icon of the San Diego waterfront has great service, great location and good food. It was a Wednesday so half off wine bottles. A nice desert if it is your birthday and a great clam chowder.
