We stopped here because of the Beignets and the were delicious. It was a clean and not to busy resturant. You can get food here as well but I was in fir some Beignets and I was not disappointed. We will return next time we are here.

This was my birthday dinner in San Francisco and I’m sad to say it was just ok. We changed reservations last minute from Scoma’s due to our schedule. Positive: location and view was amazing. Watching the sea lions play in the ocean and ships cruise by with Alcatraz as the backdrop was fantastic. Drinks were very good. Average: Food was good but not great. No bread offered for my Cioppino until I was done, shells in almost every bite of crab fettuccine. Bad: Im sorry to say the service was terrible. We had to wave someone down to get crab utensils and a second drink. Not successful at even getting anyone’s attention to bring us our check 20 minutes after finishing our meal. We had to go to the bar to ask for our check AND return the check to them at the bar and the restaurant was far from busy. Sadly, I would not recommend.

A jewel of the San Fran pier. Amazing view and decor. Sit, relax, order the whole crab and a guava mimosa! Always a must visit when in San Francisco.

It is expensive, but!... this place is old San Francisco. The vibe here is always fantastic, the food is better than most places on the wharf and the service is exquisite! They always have unquestionably fresh seafood and they know how to season it perfectly. So much more than just a restaurant, it is a true San Francisco experience.

I read it was a good place and visited it before making a reservation, thinking it was quite a touristic place. Maybe it is, but the crab is absolutely fantastic! We had the plain crab, neat, no veggies, no nothing, only the beast and their secret sauce: terrific. Make a reservation in advance if you don’t want to miss it! 18% is the average tip, I know it sounds crazy especially for us Italians (what?!? Should I give 40$ as a tip???) but that’s how it works here in the USA...

. ABeautiful view of the bay. Well decorated and comfortable booths and tables overlooking the bay. We had crab cakes, clam chowder, caesar's salads and 1/2 dungerness crab. Drinks were beers, a split of champagne, Italian pinot grigio. The salads were good but were very short on dressing. Crab cakes were very good as well as the chowder. A bit pricey for most with the bill coming to $195.00 without tip. I would go back for the view and to try other dishes.

This is a nice seafood restaurant with great views in a very touristy area. It’s a bit pricy for what your getting. Food is solid but there are better values. We enjoyed the cioppino which was pretty messy as presented and a seafood Cobb salad.

II went to Franciscan Crab Restaurant in San Francisco. This is an awesome place for a view of the Bay. Service is very good. I enjoyed a cup of clam chowder and their awesome and tasty crab louie salad. It came with lots of red onions, olives, crab, egg, avocado and more.

After exploring the wharf we wanted to have a drink and enjoy the view. Asked for a window seat but the host said the seats up on the back wall were a better view & he was right!! The drinks and spinach, crab dip was great

Spending just one day along the waterfront in San Francisco , we wanted an amazing light seafood lunch with the best view . We found it at the Franciscan Restaurant which has been around since the fifties. Photos displayed demonstrate that celebrities flocked here to enjoy the good and view. Looking for a light lunch, we opted for clam chowder ( available in a bread bowl if desired) and mussels. Both were delicious. Hubby said best clam chowder ever! Lunch served with s generous baguette. Butter dipping sauce for the mussels was to die for .( May have had Parmesan , lots of garlic and some oregano added) Every dish that went by looked incredible with great presentation. Wish we had time to go back. Great view of the bay, Alcatraz and the flotilla of boats sailing by.

Great service and an absolutely outstanding meal in this lovely restaurant overlooking Alcatraz and the bay. the Seabass was cooked in butter and capers and accompanied by a crispy potato and vegetable mix. The fried shrimp had a nice light coating and was accompanied by fresh cut Fries. For dessert We shared the lemon torta which came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It was a lovely to a lovely meal . Everything was served quickly and efficiently. Hope to come back the next time I’m in town.

The food was good. The place was not very clean (plastic booth seats were sticky) AND they added a 5% to my bill for a made-up "City Tax". I dined in five other restaurants during my stay, none had such a tax. What a shame.

We enjoyed the food and nice views of the bay. We had the crabcakes, crab enchilladas and the branzino. All very well prepared, portions are huge. Good chiice on Fisherman’s Wharf.

Excellent fish cuisine, beautiful view of Alcatraz. delicious lobster linguine. Friendly service and average prices

We order the Crab Feast and it was very good, a lot of food for your money and very tasty, we recommend it,

Incredible good fresh seafood, skillfully prepared to maximize the taste. Fantastic view of the beautiful Bay. Smooth, attentive and responsive service.

This was absolutely the worst meal I have ever had anywhere. I ordered the crab enchiladas and they should’ve been called lettuce enchiladas because that’s what they were full of. One of them had about a fingertip size piece of crab. The other had none at all. They did take it off our bill, but I’m sorry, that wasn’t good enough. The manager never even came over. The salads were pretty bad as well with a very cheap bottled tasting blue cheese dressing. The only redeeming quality was the clam chowder in a sourdough bowl. That was actually very good.

A tad pricey, but a meal worthy exploring. 8 of us, had late reservations and enjoyed an evening in the back overlooking the lights on the Oakland Bridge. We had a variety of appetizers including the anti-pasta meat plate. All meals were satisfying, and we actually felt with the bread serving that we had ordered too much. You'll enjoy the evening, but bring your wallet.

I really liked the restaurant, the pleasant atmosphere and a large selection of dishes. We saw this restaurant on envibe when we were looking for a place to gather with friends. We will definitely come again!

We had lunch several time at Franciscan Crab Restaurant during our visit in San Francisco. The crab cake burgers, calamari and clam chowder are delicious. The coleslaw used for the burgers is also different and delicious. Amazing location, tasty food, a place not to be missed in San Francisco!

don't recall how many times I have dined at the Franciscan but it never fails to please. our party of 8 was seated promptly and service was friendly and dependable. crab, shrimp, steak - all well prepared and served. ;and with a great view overlooking the Bay the evening was complete. Next time in SF we'll be sure to dine her again

I first visited this restaurant two years ago and went back again today because it was so good last time. This restaurant has everything, the most fantastic seafood you will ever taste, unusual interior decor, great seafront location and a history of the golden era of Hollywood stars of the 50’s written on the walls in photographs. Their skillet of assorted fish is their most popular fish but I had clam chowder served in a sour dough loaf followed by custard vanilla ice cream. It was a simple choice but the flavours were unforgettable. You can also buy their menu with all the recipes included in a book for 7 dollars. An experience you will remember long after the holiday is over.

We wanted a seafood lunch, but not in one of the very touristy restaurants on Fisherman's Wharf. We chose the Franciscan after reading previous TA reviews and for its elevated position looking out over the bay. It was a good choice! We opted for the sizzling seafood combo of crab, mussels and prawns, accompanied by just a bowl of noodles. I have to say that it was extremely messy, and certainly not cheap, but very delicious!

Great food, great drinks and amazing view of the bay! I would definitely recommend this place. The service was excellent as well.

The Franciscan is a classic San Francisco restaurant. Each time we come we only have a wonderful meal but a great experience with the atmosphere and people that work there. Our table shared a Seabass with soy and ginger, crab sandwich, garlic shrimp, and a lovely salad ending with their famous chocolate ice cream sundae. The servers notice every way to give you a great evening.

On our visits to San Fran, we have always like the food here even though we know it’s a tourist trap. The view is spectacular and the old Hollywood look is a nostalgic glimpse on the history of this amazing city. We thoroughly enjoyed the clam chowder last evening but our crab dinner left us asking each other “is it just me, or does this taste funny?” We ask if the crab had been previously frozen? And our server (who was very nice) said that it was a possibility. Had we known, we would have not ordered it. Disappointing. We won’t be back. Sigh.

Last year, I came back to one of my favorite restaurants and ⁇ it again. San Francisco’s most beautiful place is a must-try. The crab, calamari, and shrimp are excellent

We chose this restaurant as it was in the Fisherman's Wharf area and we had never eaten here. They enjoyed the very delicious clam chowder in a large sourdough bowl.and the crab sliders. These along with a carafe of Sauvignon Blanc and lovely views of the bay and Alcatraz Island made for a tourist's delight. The service was friendly and attentive and we were happy we chose this place over all the other options at the wharf!

We had visited this restaurant for lunch many years ago and returned for dinner. First signs were not good as the people at reception (especially the man) showed little interest in welcoming us. Once seated, things improved. The view was spectacular with the sun going down. Our waiters were attentive and helpful. We went for the crab enchilada and the cioppino. Both were fresh and full of flavour, especially the cioppino which had crab, mussels, clams, prawns and squid swimming around. Absolutely delicious!

Yummmmy!!!! This place has phenomenal, unobstructed views of the bay, Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz. First off, definitely recommend making a reservation, which we did. Park in the open lot directly across the street and bring your ticket for validated full parking (for up to 2 hours)!!! Once we arrived, we waited about 5-10 minutes before seated for our reservation. Our server was attentive and friendly! We order drinks that had plenty of alcohol (my fiancé order the mermaid island iced tea and I ordered the red headed floozy). We ordered crab & spinach fondue and calamari for appetizers and they were absolutely delicious! For dinner my fiancé ordered the combo sizzling iron skillet which can steaming hot and he LOVED it. There was nothing left over. Might I add, absolutely delish sauces. I ordered garlic needed abs added dungeness crab. Wow!!! Sooo tasty and filling but no discomfort. Highly highly recommend if you love seafood and breathtaking views!

We were there on a busy Saturday with friends, ready to eat and drink a couple tables full. The visit started off wonderful...steady decline to an insulting ending. Beautiful place, great views, average, cold food, terrible service. Our waiting times were unreasonable each step of the way--NOTE, we are reasonable people, and were not in a hurry; this was a sad experience. Thankfully, management was apologetic on our way out.

The only positive thing that comes to mind is that the location is great! We were strolling along the wharf and decided to sit for a bit and have some beignets.while we watched the street performer. First of all, the pictures of their food looked good so we got a tray of 3 beignets. I agree with other reviewers about the quality of it being not so good. We found a table outside and had to wipe it down ourselves, then realized the amount of flies buzzing around. Granted we sat outside but something near us was attracting a lot of them. There wasn't another open table so we tried to make the best of it. Overall, I wouldn't stop there again.

Awesome restaurant right on the water front. Wonder waterfront view of the harbor and Alcatraz. Was able to watch a good many seals playing. Had drinks and nice selection of appetizers in a very relaxing atmosphere. A real treat to visit this restaurant.

My husband and I had lunch at this restaurant during a recent visit to San Francisco. It is easy to find and quite large; the way everyone is seated, there is a good view of the bay and Alcatraz island. It was a very warm day so the air conditioned comfort was welcome. We were only there for lunch, the menu is very extensive and there is something for everyone. We ordered the crab cakes and the spinach salad with shrimp. The crab cakes were delicious but we were unimpressed with the salad which was very plain. It had a generous portion of shrimp, which we weren't actually expecting to be "shrimp" size, I expected more of a prawn size but that's my own fault for not asking. The seafood platters going past looked good. The place was very busy and the service was good.

Stopped here after one of the sunset cruises. Good selection of food not bad prices especially as you are in the middle of the tourist trap. The food and service were not bad at all. Well worth a look in the midst of some very overpriced alternatives. The clam pasta was great. Would eat here again if we were in town.

Wow. Had a terrific lunch yesterday! Great service, stunning view and our meals were delicious. She had the clam chower and a half order of crab. I had sea bass with a sauce that was tasty-chippino-ish and a delicious couscous with veggies. Had a sea siren to drink, and all of that left no room for dessert. Waiter was kind enough to take our pic too.

Too expensive for what it is! Very appreciable view of the bay. The rest is much less so: very basic service especially compared to rates! Crab lasagna is very good but not worth the $40 you pay! Poor fish and chips: huge fat breading! Enormous but unrefined desserts (at last ice cream). You will find significantly better value for Award elsewhere!

Walked in with no wait at 6:30 pm on a Sunday night. Staff was friendly and food was good. Food is very expensive and options are ala carte. Great view over water.

The pasta was awesome and really tasty! I really loved the old school pics all around the restaurant of old hollywood stars!

We reserved a table for a family with kid and a baby (high chair) and a friend that was visiting us. When we arrived the table was already settled. It was a Saturday afternoon and the weather was nice so we had a great view from Alcatraz. The waiter was very friendly and the food was very good. Will definitely come back!

On the waterfront in Fisherman's Wharf near pier 43. Great ambiance, great service, pleasant staff. We ordered oysters, fried calamaris (a single serve was enough for 2) and a shareable plate of 'double shrimps and double crab' which meant 24 delicious shrimps and a whole crab for about 64$. Fresh and delicious. Plenty for 2 people. I recommend this restaurant and would definitively go again if ever in San Fran again.

First time visit for lunch at opening. The space was great, and I enjoyed the history with all of the photographs on the walls. Even though we had a window table, the beautiful view of the water and boats was somewhat drowned out by the bird droppings, falling apart pier, and teenage girls taking selfies in inappropriate clothing just below us. The food was really good and the service was very attentive though.

We stopped by this restaurant on a recent trip to San Francisco and were delighted with the cuisine. The crab legs were absolutely delectable and the strawberry sundae was a delightful surprise at the end (by far the best I’ve ever had, and there was PLENTY of it to go around!) Definitely recommend!

We ate a whole Crab (king crab) a sandwich with crab, the classic “chopping” all excellent .. even fish and chips. But the overdeserved 5 stars I put them in a hurry to thank the friendly and never intrusive efficient staff. Really top

Visited this place many times & had a great time. Loved to enjoy eat there and this is beautiful and mesmerizing place. Love my time here too romantic.

We went here for our last night in San Francisco and were slightly underwhelmed. If I could give it 3.5 stars I would. Why not more than that? Firstly, the number of very positive reviews had raised our expectations. The ambiance is more American diner than mid-market restaurant and they lost points for delivering the first indifferent wine of our San Francisco and Napa trip, a rather jammy Pinot Noir. It was probably not helped by being pretty empty on a Monday evening. Service was OK, the prawn cocktail description raised hopes of a massive shrimp offering which was actually five reasonably large shrimp around a thin flute of lettuce. Seafood fettuccine was good. So, adequate, but not one than that.

We eat here every time we go to wharf!! Delicious and fresh! A little too much slaw on the sandwich, easy to scrape off! Delicious puff pastry for dessert! Great view of Alcatraz from dining room, public restroom for customers.

I am a local. I used to regard the Franciscan restaurant as a tourist place until I took my visiting relatives there for the first time several years ago. Was I so pleasantly surprised by the experience! First of all all the seats have the views of the Alcatraz and sea. They face the same direction so no need to be so picky about the seat assignment. I prefer the upper level because my favorite waiter works there and it provides the cleaner view without the dirty sidewalks. The food there surprised me. Nothing fancy but tasty good food. The garlic butter for the roasted crab or sizzling seafood platters is a bomb. This is my family's favorite place for crabs. Recently I tried the fish and chips and it was the best fish and chips that I have ever had. The whole fish filet was nicely fried and the fish was so fresh. Now I am addicted. I always get the vanilla custard ice cream for a dessert even though I am stuffed. The ice cream is so silky and I have n Liever tasted something like it. The food portion is big and the price is so reasonable, downright cheap. There is no SF surcharge. You get a 2 hour free parking validation right in front. The service is great and efficient. What more could you ask for? The Franciscan is the best deal in the Fisherman's Wharf.

We went here for my son while visiting him. We knew going in this is a big tourist trap but seriously the crab was over priced and over cooked (check out the photo of what $115.00 gets you). We did the Two Too Crab feast that said it fed 3 people and it barely served 2 people. Top it off with a ton of their Secret Garlic Sauce which overwhelmed the taste of the crab. The crab was dry and over cooked. Total waist of over $115 just for the crab. Then the clam chowder tasted like it had flour dough not mixed into the soup. Granted it has those big windows facing the ocean, but at night time you can't see a thing. Our waiter only came by to drop off our food, he had to be asked to come over and refill our drinks. Bottom line if you want great crab and a lot for a great price, I suggest going to a Joe's Crab Shack. This place is a waist of your money.

Often if you have a nice view you don't have good food. But this place had both. Our waiter,Gustavo, was extremely attentive and we enjoyed an assortment of great sea food dishes. One of us had the clam chowder and the other a mixed selection of beautifully served scampi, prawns, shellfish and goodness knows what else. The place lived up to its name in every way.

Massive portions so my wife and I shared 2 small ones with a glass or two of rose , very quick and very tasty

We were really disappointed tonight. The food and the service was just tired and drab. The crab salad was limp. The crab was just, just ok, the kid's fish and chips looked frozen. But the whole thing was the table turning and the lack of interest in service. Noone asked how our food was. And when I complained, it just didn't seem to matter. After negotiation we agreed to write down a third of the bill which was fair but not easy to make that understood and made to be a bit a game. In our view, tourist trap. Not a quality place. Venue lovely but quality and service not meeting the prices.

I really enjoyed this place and would definitely go back. We had shrimp cocktail and crab dip appetizers that were both fantastic. I chose an entree in which you chose your fish and how it was cooked that came with vegetables and local claim to fame acini de pepe and it was delicious. The restaurant itself offers somewhat of an Old Hollywood vibe that is unique and interesting. One of the best parts of the meal was the gorgeous view of the bay at sunset. Definitely request a table with a view.

We had excellent service, and the food was delicious. I had the crab enchiladas, and they were delicious, meaty, and cheesy! My friend had steak, and she said it was cooked perfectly.

Would have given zero stars if possible! I got the apparently ‘famous fishwich’ from here and it was cold and unable to be eaten. McDonald’s makes better burgers than this. DONT COME HERE, YOU ARE WATING VALUABLE TIME MONEY AND APPETITE

Great location close to pier 39 with indoor and outdoor seating. You order, are given a number and when food is ready they call you. We had clam chowder in bread bowl and garlic fries and fish between us. Portions are large so you could easily share one dish between you.Food was just delicious. Lovely location to eat and watch the world go by/ Definitely recommend.

The Franciscan crab house is a great place for dinner and offers amazing views of Alcatraz island and San Francisco bay. Boudin next door is recommended as well

We went to this restaurant in San Francisco last July. It was recommended as a quality place, in fact in addition to being very expensive it turned out to be very modest from a gastronomic point of view. My wife and I had a "ciuppin", imitation of a Ligurian dish like guazzetto and a crab cocktail. In the ciuppin a few mussels, clams, a few squid rings and 2 crab claws sail in a quintal of tomato sauce. The crab cocktail was all salad with very little crab pulp. These two plates plus a small beer for the modest sum of $111. Just forget it.

We were looking for good clam chowder and crab legs ... and we found them. The view is amazing as well! They have a combo where you can get both for under $40 + ice cream for dessert. Everything tasted fantastic, and the service was quick. Only small detail I would improve, remove a little more of the brown stuff the crab is cooked in as it makes it a bit more messy.

The salmon was good. The view was great. Bang for your buck the grotto is better. But if you go there you better be dressed up. This place is more casual but just as expensive.

Went to the Franciscan Restaurant in San Francisco, Calif. On the bay. Beautiful restaurant overlooking the bay and Alcatraz in the distance Had oysters and fish & chips dinner. Lots of food. Kinda pricey but the atmosphere was well worth it. Pictures on the wall of every star you can imagine. Very iconic place to dine. Recommend

You definitely need to book, there can be few restaurants with a better view. Lovely seafood, but service was a little random. Dungerness crab s never cheap, but absolutely delicious here. Well worth a visit.

We stopped in for a special dinner while on vacation. The views are great and our server was attentive. We enjoyed the drinks and the crab. Overall A great backdrop for enjoying some local seafood.

After eating at Franciscan Crab, we came here (it’s part of the same building) to get a dessert of New Orleans style beignets that were hot and fresh. This made for a satisfying way to finish the meal started upstairs.

Have been to San Francisco multiple times and always wanted to go but was really disappointed. Food was expensive which is to be expected but it was burnt as well really dissatisfied

This is the second time we've eaten here. To me it feels like an old classic restaurant, which I love. The views are wonderful and the food is fairly good, not outstanding. Service was excellent. You're paying for the views.

This place is located in pier 43 next to the sea. The menu is based to crabs, shrimps and mussels but crab is the king here. The decoration is American and pleasant. We ordered the local soup which called crab chowder and is served inside a bread bowl, a big vegetable salad and a big plate with shrimps and crab. All of them were very tasteful-especially the soup which I could eat almost everyday!!! The waiter was... hmmm - ok, but no exceptional. He was forgetting to bring the wine bottle, to take the spare empty plates and cutlery from our table, to bring the bill, but maybe because it was late in the evening, at the end of the shift and he was tired. However, it was a great place to dine. Go for sure!

Booked this restaurant before I came away. It has an amazing view of Alcatraz and the sea Staff greeted us and took us to table They were friendly and helpful. Great selection on menu and wine list. Food was served beautifully, hot tasted great, I really enjoyed.

The neon lights, touch of stainless steel, walking up a flight of stairs between the walls covered with photos of celebrities and world figures, lands you at a gorgeous view of the Bay, where you feel you can reach out an touch Alcatraz (see photo) ... pelicans glide by, like a freight train of linked cars, dolphins play of the pier, you have entered one of the most iconic restaurants in San Francisco ... the array of delicious offerings, the attentive service, and buzz of conversation among the guests makes a visit to the Franciscan Crab restaurant a 'must do' on any one (even seafood allergic persons) on a trip to San Francisco. Absolutely, my favorite restaurant in a cit full of good food.

We make it a point to dine here whenever we visit SFO. We enjoy both the mouthwatering seafood and the “wow” views it has to offer. We know the menu, we know what we want it’s that simple. What we didn’t know was there was an issue w/ my son’s dish and Martin our waiter was set in his ways we were told, he didn’t listen. Miles wasn’t much of a help either however, we were so relieved when Drew Cronis came to our table. It was simply Drew to the rescue! He listened and made things right. Before he came, we already knew we were just going to explore other restaurants and erase Franciscan. Thanks Drew, you surely made the difference. We put the restaurant back in our fave list.

Girlfriends catching up after a very long separation (#COVID reunion). The wait staff had just the right amount of attentiveness balanced with leaving us to reconnect. That said, the food and bevies were good, albeit a bit overpriced.

Where do I start? Our first clue should have been when we ordered the 1/2 crab double shrimp platter to share and the waiter outwardly expressed his displeasure with that idea. The order came out covered in bell peppers and when I told the waiter I was allergic to them he just said ok and walked away never to be seen again until he presented the bill. I waited for someone to come over to check on us and finally asked the hostess for the manager after everyone in our party was finished eating. I explained the situation to the manager and he just said “I’m sorry.” He was obviously more concerned with impressing a large party that was there and not ensuring all customers were taken care of. To top the evening off, when the waiter did come back with the bill he ignored me, spoke only to my husband, and tried to justify his actions saying that is just how they prepare the plate and he told us not to share it!

Service was a little slow to start, after watching 2 other tables who were seated after I was get waited on I finally had to flag down a couple people to get someone to come to my table. I ordered a drink and food at the same time, and it was brought to me very quickly after that. Great atmosphere, food & views of the Bay.

I went to the Franciscan on an earlier visit to SF. The whole garlic roasted Dungeness Crab was fantastic. This time, I place a half order. It should have stated a quarter order. About 6 legs with minor amount of meats in the body joint. I was surprised at the small quantity (at 2/3rds the price of a whole). Disappointed.

Delicious dungeoness crabs and raw oysters. Both pasta we ordered were good but the clam and crab chowder lack lustre.

Excellent food with beautiful view to the bay. Wide selection of seafood from shrimps to amazing crac. Quality service and wide range of wines.

It’s consistent with what you find around it. Don’t be fooled by the fact that you can sit down in a proper restaurant. Food-wise, you might cut trough the fancy staff, not pay the premium (but still too much) and just have something on the go from nearby. Or to put it differently, there are many other places you can go where they know how to cook seafood properly and not kill it 100 times over. It might have had its days but they are long gone….

Stopped in here for a late lunch and although a but pricey the view is gorgeous. I'm not a seafood eater so had a chicken salad which was delicious. Everyone else loved their food -crab cakes and shrimp noodles. We ordered bread and it was okay -a little hard. If served warm would have been much better.

My family and I had dinner in this restaurant during our stay in San Francisco. The food was excellent, we tried different dishes and our favourite was the “crab enchilada” very tasty and delicious. I also recommend trying the “cioppino soup”. Also the waiters were very nice🦀

This is by fishermans wharf so it is crowded and a bit over priced but still worth going to. It has a water view and a lot of celebrity history of attendance. Younger crowd will probably not recognize their picture My daughter and granddaughter had the Dungeness crab plates. they thought they were excellent as they are famous for the crab. I had a cup of clam chowder 5 star and the roast Mussels. I love Mussels but never had roasted if you like them in broth or beer broth you will be disappointed. I thought they were good but not as prepared in Belgium which are my favorite. As I said expensive, no drinks $110. Beautiful decor and great service. This is a high end restaurant not for little kids

My wife stopped in for lunch After visiting Redwoods (Muir) park. We both got Fish and Chips service was fast, Fresh very flaky fish. I got the olive oil Cole slaw, was best darn Cole slaw I ever had. Very happy, highly recommend

As I was wandering around Fisherman's Wharf on my first visit to SF I was looking for somewhere to have lunch. Luckily I stumbled across this place and had an amazing lunch enjoying their Fishwich. It was so good, served hot and freshly made. I enjoyed it so much I returned the next day for some clam chowder which was also delicious. Along with quick service and lots of seating make this a spot I'll return to in the future.

Great views! Saw Sean lions pelicans and a dolphin while eating the well prepared food! I got the mussel and shrimp skillet and it was yum! The only complaint is the shrimp was a peel and eat. Otherwise reasonably priced for the area although most things are ala carte. $$-$$$ depending on what you get. Service was great. Esa was wonderful!

I want to start out by saying the the food was absolutely wonderful! My husband’s steak was the best steak at a restaurant we’ve ever had. My crab was very good too! The bus boys (especially Henry) and the food runners were amazing...our service AWFUL (maybe the worst ever)! Our server talked to us maybe 3 times the whole meal and when she did, NOT friendly! The view, even at night was beautiful. Worth the visit for great food if you are patient with poor service! We have not had “good” service during our visit here though, so it may just be a San Fran thing.

Came for lunch on a weekday, right when the restaurant opened. I ordered the crab chowder in a bread bowl and the bread was slightly stale, which was surprising as I thought it would be freshly made for the day. The service was average and the food was decent. I would give this place a 3.5 stars if I could.

The Sign Says it Right, Best Fish n Chips ever. We are from Seattle and know our fish and chips. You wont go wrong here. Had the Fish and Chips and Beignet's

Perfect meal for our party of 8. Seated immediately on a Friday night. Excellent seafood choices and tables overlooking the water.. great service..

A couple of us went to Fisherman's Wharf since they had never been to SF. We decided to check out the Franciscan Crab since it looked so cool - looks like a big ship sitting in the harbor. They have a very large menu - a lot of options..and not just seafood. The view is awesome as it overlooks the water and you can see Alcatraz. I had a spicy tomato cream pasta dish and added shrimp - It was very good. One of the girls got the grilled shrimp skillet.. 12 shrimp, they were small shrimp that were cooked in the shell so they were a bit of a pain for her to eat. All in all very enjoyable!

Sitting at a 2nd floor balcony dining area, overlooking the Bay with the sun warming us up was delightful. On top of that, the crab salad was generous enough to share. With avocados, egg, tomatoes, romaine lettuce, black olives and dungeness crab it really hit the spot!

Visiting this restaurant the third time. Indulge in the seaview, the seafood, the service, the ambience......... cannot find anything to complain. It's on the pricey side but the experience is worth it (and it's San Francisco, and you are a tourist :-D). And the crab..............yuuuuummmmm.

The famous fishwich was absolutely horrible and not eatable. Waste of money food went straight into the trash..

The Fish and Stinky Garlic Fries are the BEST fish and fries that I have ever had!!! It was a reasonably priced and OH..so Tasteful!!! If you are at FWharf, skip all the others and check out the Stinky Garlic Fries. Oh, they are stinky!! But, oh SOOO GOOD!! : ) This fish was fresh and the breading on the fish was so light and crispy. Skip the Boudin who someone had warned me about and hit up Frankie's!!!

Crab melts were very good. Plenty of crab meat which was fresh, and not overpowered by the bread, cheese etc. other members of the party had clam chowder. It was also excellent, with nice chunky ingredients rather than the thin soupy stuff you get in some other places. Views over the bay are great if you get a seat near the window. The two negatives were a) price. Very expensive for what you get. Quality good, and portion sizes just right, but the feeling was we were paying for the view. b) service. Wait staff were ok, but not particularly friendly - not rude or anything like that, but just a little “stand offish” rather than friendly. Enjoyable, but nothing special.

Food is great value for money. Fresh , tender and delicious, not too salty. It is a place where you can order and eat in 20mins if on the rush.

You aren’t going to get a bad view in this place… great for a date night. Food portions were perfect. Flavor was impeccable. Hubby got the Brazin fish. It comes with cous-cous (he’s not a fan) and he LOVED it. Say whaaaaa? I got the crab melt along with a side Caesar. The melt is actually three sliders, but very bready, I just removed the bottom bun on each and the hubby enjoyed those with his meal. My topless crab melts were delicious! We would definitely come back here!

After walking the mountains of San Francisco I was looking for a place at the end of my walk to rest. This location overlooking the water towards Alcatraz was almost perfect. It was the beignets that made it perfect. Hot with plenty of powdered sugar.

Garlic and fresh fish! Yum! Our party of 7 with three adults 4 kids ranging from 10-13 all enjoyed our food. The atmosphere is great also. Bonus is clean bathrooms.

Long time resident of the bay area and we have not stopped here before! After our very good family Thanksgiving dinner and drinks here we will be back. There were 8 of us, and with an early dinner reservation (5:30) we decided to just come here for before dinner drinks and enjoy the view of the bay while the sun set. What a wise decision (wish I could take credit for it) Decent pour on all cocktails and wines at the bar while we waited for our table to be ready. And the staff were more than friendly and accommodating on a very busy evening for the venue. We had the calamari and fondue appetizers and a variety of dishes - our glutton free grand daughter was able to find several options on the menu, and most of us went with various versions of the Prix Fix dinner menu. All in all a very nice evening - never felt rushed and server (Laura) did a nice job keeping everyone happy. We will be back - another 'favorite' spot on the bay for us.

Ordered a whole crab and while fresh, I found the dish too buttery and oily to my liking. Go there for the experience and views, but pricey menu

The place has great views. Good crab. Decent drinks. And disgusting fish and chips. I have to use at least 100 words so don’t order the fish and chips. Don’t order the fish and chips. Don’t order the fish and chips. Don’t order the fish and chips.

It was truly the best fishwich that we had ever eaten. Fresh large piece of fish fillet inside the fluffy potato bread with generous coleslaw and jalapeño filling. Saw some bad reviews here but I think the burger is really nice when the fish fillet is served hot.

Got the “World Famous Fishwich” Lol, it was so small and not that very good. Service was slow. $15 for some fries and a small sandwich. Move in, better places to eat

This is a great restaurant with fantastic food. We tried the shrimp and crab cocktail and they both were delicious! The fish & chips was amazing and the crab melt was to die for. The staff was extremely friendly and the views were breathtaking. When we come back to San Francisco, we will definitely stop here again.

I came by in a recent business trip where I had an afternoon off. Flying solo is not exciting when dining, but I can say the view, the food and service was so great it was no longer an issue! Crab was delicious as well as shrimp!

My partner and I went to San Francisco for a long holiday weekend. Loved having lunch at the Franciscan Crab Restaurant, right on the ocean. Looks a bit “touristy” from outside, but well worth the trip for anyone who is a foodie and love crab. Made reservations which is recommended. We started with an appetizer, the Enchilada (seafood) then split one large whole crab. WOW. Loved them both. For two people....probably too much food. We could have just gone with the Crab, as our waiter recommended. However, I insisted on the appetizer as well. All wonderful. . .and only $100 for two including a few drinks.

Excellent crab legs!! My husband had the fish and chips which were also very tasty. The views are amazing, the staff friendly and fast service.

Spotted this place while out and about and looked nice with a good view over the bay. Reviewed it and looked good. Arrived 7pm without a booking and they could fit us in with only a short wait. Nice view over the bay. Service was friendly, server looked after us well. My son and I shared a whole crab and 2 sides which was easily enough for us. My wife had the crab melt. We all enjoyed our food and the crab was cooked to perfection. Yes, you pay a premium for the location, but enjoyed the view as well as the food and service. I would recommend this restaurant.

What you would expect for a tourist destination. Crowded. Long wait. Average+ food. Clam chowder and drinks were good.

Location, Location, Location. The Franciscan has a prime location on the water in an area that’s packed with tourists. But the Franciscan also attracts a fair number of locals and former residents or semi-residents like us. We were looking for a place one afternoon for a drink a few years ago and stopped, took a table on a window and found ourselves watching the America’s Cup race. Spent the day watching it without the crowd with a prime view. It has a good bar, good food and good service. A pleasant experience overall. We’re not normally there at peak time, e.g. evening dinner hours, but I think the food would measure up as well at that time.

This place was very tasty and the waiter was so kind. would recommend: the lobster bisque cons: busy pros: GREAT view of the bay

We ordered Lotsa Crab on the menu. It doesn’t come with any bread or sides. The crab was tasty but definitely overpriced. Our server took our orders & never return to the table until we ask for our bill. we dine in around 3pm so is wasn’t super busy. The place definitely needs a major clean up. Not worth dine in a place like that charging $90 per person.

It is only the location , the rest is nothing This is my second time here and the second mistake No worm wellcome , no table if you are alone etc etc

Stopped in for lunch and to try the famous, soft shell crab wich. Service was friendly and helpful and tge wich was very fresh and tasty. The bun was super soft and fresh. Great seating area outside near the waterfront with nice views of Alcatraz.

Okay. It's the 4th of July and the first since opening post pandemic. So mind you we made reservations ahead of time. Given that piece of info, we were still required to wait in line even with walk-ins and they were given seat prior to reservations. What those that had reservations received were the window tables if they wanted them. Fortunately for us we didn't have to wait too long. In fact the service was pretty quick. That had its disadvantage on the flip side as you constantly had to tell clearing staff you weren't finished. I kept telling myself I wasn't going to have anyone rush me out of there for what I was paying! Now on to the food. I had the whole crab and shrimp. My husband has the mussels and shrimp. We did order their signature bread as well, which was smart as you just wanted something to sop up every last drop of juice! The crab was perfectly cooked which I was a little surprised by because of the volume they must make especially on a holiday. They were easy to crack and pull. I had only one complaint and that was my dipping butter sauce was not sufficiently melted and by the end of the meal had cooled quickly and congealed. But part of that was THERE WAS SO MUCH FOOD. It took a decent amount of time and we shared our meals. The mussels were perfect. You could even taste the wine that they were cooked in- just a hint. Perfect. The shrimp were out of this world. They needed to be peeled but that made them more tender and it was a good thing between the crab and the shrimp that you had a bib! I went through so many towels but who cared. Total transparency, it's a little pricey. It's on Fisherman's Wharf and a tourist hotspot. So it's going to be priced accordingly. The good thing though, I didn't feel cheated. It was worth the money spent!

Everyone had some sort of seafood dish and we all raved about it. When a server spilled some clam chowder on my daughter ‘s jacket they moved us to a new table, cleaned the jacket and bought us a second round of drinks and desert. They really tried to make things right. I’d suggest going at an off peak time, like 3 pm. At lunch and dinner time it is quite busy with a wait.

Excellent food and great service here. We booked for a couples birthday meal and were pleasantly treated with a birthday desert :) We took a booth which was spacious and felt looked after here with great drinks service and topping up. The food arrived quickly and was amazing. I really recommend this place for the service and quality of food.

Great food, fresh fish and crub and big plates. Excellentbosa spicy entrees and crab chowder. Great view

Excellent. Really enjoyed it. We had the dungeoness crab on the sizzling skillet. Was excellent. Great views while we ate.

We had a delicious meal while enjoying a beautiful view of the bay. We had the best view of Alcatraz in the bay. Our waitress was very helpful in recommending our meal selections. We truly enjoyed our time at this restaurant. We will definitely be back.

Whilst in SF I wanted to try the clam chowder and crab at this restaurant. Although the food was delicious, the service wasn’t great, it took an age to order and then the food came out so quickly we hadn’t finished our appetisers so we had no space on out table.

Went here with the girls while in San Francisco and throughly enjoyed it. The food was fresh and delicious, from the crab to the fried fish. We enjoyed it so much we came back again the next day.

It was February so we were able to walk in without a reservation. The staff was very nice and friendly. Quick and courteous service. My mom had the crab enchiladas that were delicious, highly recommend. I had the Fettucine Alfredo which was also very good! I wasn't in the mood for seafood. The drinks were fun. The booth was comfortable and had it been earlier in the evening would have offered a great view of the water. Good choice close to our hotel.

We picked here with its location and the crab restaurant that is mentioned. We were so hungry and liked to eat crab. We ordered 4 persons crab and medium mussels. The dishess were served very fast; faster than expected so we asked if these were ready cooked. Of course not they said. The tastes were so salty and not fresh. It was like frozen seafood for many days. Sorry to say but it was not what we expected. The scenery’s nice. Service us good but taste is salty and not fresh.

The fish and chips, the calamari, the clam chowder, the fettuccine Alfredo, and the bread was all super bland and had no taste

I made a reservation with a note about our 10th anniversary, but unfortunately the occasion was never acknowledged by the restaurant. The restaurant was packed full, so we had to wait a few extra minutes to be seated, a few extra minutes to get water, and a few extra minutes beyond that to know who our server would be. They were understaffed or the service could use some improvement. Since I saw the staff frantically scurrying around all the time, it's probably the former, and no fault of their own. We ordered quite a bit of food. The combo skillet was excellent. The crab cocktail was excellent. The bread, shrimp cocktail, and the drinks were disappointing. I'm not sure how ginger ale ordered here could taste flatter and be worse than ginger ale from a vending machine, but it was (and much more expensive). But focusing on the positive, several of their seafood offerings were very tasty. It's hard to beat looking out over the cold, foggy bay while eating some warm seafood. I'm very glad we went, I'd be happy to go again, but just due to the hectic atmosphere all around the restaurant since they were so packed, I don't think I'd seek it out again specifically for a special occasion. I'd like to give it 4 stars, and I probably would if I was just a curious walk-in wanting something simple, but I'm giving it 3 stars because we were expecting a 5 star experience.

Went here on our first night in San Francisco! We got a table by the window over looking the water which was nice. Ordered calamari which was good. The single portion was enough to share. We then shared a whole Dungeness Crab and a Medium Shrimp. Plenty of food to share. It was all really delicious and thoroughly enjoyable! Would certainly recommend this place for crab!

If you are first-timers and overwhelmed and getting tired looking for a casual, inexpensive place to try some clam chowder, and fish & chips, calamari at the famous Fisherman's Wharf- this is the place to be! If you can find a table to sit down, get in line! They really have pretty good fish and chips and chowder, not to mention the beignets for dessert! If you are in luck, try to find seats looking across the bay at Alcatraz, get some beer to go with the fish and chips. Don't get confused with the nicer restaurant the "Franciscan Crab Restaurant" on the second floor, however it is under the same management.

I don't know what we're missing here........yes, the view is wonderful. However, our food was okay, but nothing over the top as per previous TA reviews. I tried the Fish & Chips.....just didn't appreciate the texture of the fish.......only to discover later that it was Basa. Guess that I will ask in the future what type of fish is featured in this entree. My spouse ordered a shrimp cocktail appetizer.......it was okay, but his clam chowder was bland, with very little flavor. It was worth the visit for the view, but not much more for us, unfortunately.

The food was the star.My wife had Dungeness crab,a large portion that we could have shared. It was delicious. My Crab Enchillada was amongst the best things I have tasted in my 72 years.Ambience is great. The view of the Bay and Alcatraz unparalleld and the service was superb.Cant wait for our next visit.

Why is this restaurant still open? Dirty +++++++++ Food uneatable ++++++ - frozen ingredients - old fish (I got sick) - Poorly cooked It’s a pity because the location is wonderful

There was a real buzz when we went to the Franciscan Crab restaurant. We were early but still got seated.pretty much straight away. The service was good and the food excellent - its probably some of the best crab I have ever had. The only down side was that there was no draft beer. Apparently the equipment wasn't working, not thati t bothered me but my husband wasn't quite so pleased. At least they had bottled beer as a substitute.

We had the best Clam Chowder ever here. It was absolutely delicious. We all so had the shrimp cocktail which was fabulous. The views across San Francisco bay were magnificent. The service was very good and an impressive wine list. Would highly recommend.

We just had to do the Fisherman's Wharf dinner right on the water and Franciscan fit the bill as we scanned the area. We hit it just right as it was between the lunch and dinner crowds and our table was right at the window with a perfect view of Alcatraz. The restaurant is so open and bright with views all around of the bay. Staff is very friendly and attentive, and our visit gave us the 'nice meal' vibe. Round of drinks and a variety of seafood entrees did not disappoint and were all very tasty. Crab/Shrimp Louie Louie, Crab Enchiladas and Seafood Pasta were all fresh and delicious. Prices were on par with what you would expect for location/area.

An Excellent Restaurant with amazing views of Alcatraz and the San Francisco Bay. We ordered the crab linguini and clam chowder in a bread bowl. They were both excellent. The portions were of good size, fresh, and the service was excellent. The kids menu is pretty decent, as are the portion sizes. I would highly recommend this restaurant. It's a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for.

I was here on a solo business trip. I was a bit surprised when I arrived: I expected a more elegant atmosphere, but it has a rather 1950's / casino / drive-in vibe. The tables are arranged in tiers so almost every table has a view of the waterfront, Alcatraz, etc. Booths face out too. It was dark, though, so I didn't see a thing! The menu is all about the Dungeness crab. I didn't want crab, so I had one of the four fish species times five preparation options = 20 varieties of fish dishes. Presentation was nice, and sides / sauces more in the fine dining range than the crab shack range. Limited wine menu, full bar. Wines available by glass, carafe (half bottle), and bottle. Services was attentive and unobtrusive. Prices on the high side, but that's Fisherman's Wharf for you. A nice touch: binoculars are available at many tables.

The view in the evening is stunning and probably worth the price of dinner. The staff was ok but not great. The chowder seamed old and almost lumpy. The Basa however was amazing and was done perfectly! One other small critique was that the walls and fixtures by the booths and tables need to be cleaned...it looked like a bit of a crime scene on the wall by our table.

Cool atmosphere and wonderful servers but I wasn’t impressed with the food. I ordered crab legs and the “special” garlic butter they were cooked with completely disguised the taste of the crab. There was just so much butter and garlic or whatever it was for a sauce. I generally just eat steamed or boiled crab with plain butter on the side to dip it in. My husband had crab enchiladas and again, there was so much cheese you couldn’t taste the seafood. It was also ridiculously expensive for the size and quality of the meal. Would not recommend if you like true seafood. Get off the wharf and out of the tourist area for better quality seafood.

We are so lucky that the Franciscan has survived Covid. The food was amazing. The mussels were delicious. The portions were shareable. The bread was warm and welcoming. Our waiter was so professional and competent! We were able to make reservations on the same day we dined there.

Great stop for a quick bite. It was fast and good! Went back for some beignets. The garlic chips looked amazing but were just here for clam chowder bowl.

Located on the seashore, large and fish-based. For an appetizer we had a chowder: creamy clam-based soup with vegetables. Very American and loaded compared to my tastes. Then a mixed crab, mussels and grilled prawns with accompanying garlic sauce. Prices from the sea. Surrender as well. Curious to go back. Next time cioppino?

Landlovers looking for Seafood. We stumbled upon this restaurant as we were touristing the area late on a quick impromptu trip to the area. We got there too late to really enjoy the view but the food was excellent. Our server helped us with what would give us a taste of all. We ordered the single combo, so got some shrimp, mussels and crab and then we also ordered a crab fettuccine alfredo. It was all sooo delish! We quite enjoyed the mussels!

You feel like you step into a diner from 50's and 60's - into a different era. While this is not a fancy restaurant, the staff is formally dressed and service is terrific. The food was delicious and service is fast. This is the second time I've been to the restaurant - it tends to be less crouded, cleaner and better service than other crab establishments in the area as it is slightly off the beaten path. We loved the crab, the fish, and the appetizer. Will be back!

One of the locations on Pier 45 that are still open. I was disappointed that their "Famous Fishwich Sandwich" fish portion had been reduced to about half the size of the extra-large portion of several years ago. The Fish and Chips were still good though.

The views over the bay are stunning! The sizzling fresh seafood platter was amazing and the service was exceptional! My favorite spot on San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf!

This San Francisco institution is dependable. Good service, solid menu, nice seafood classics. great views of Alcatraz, birdlife and the passing bay traffic.

Whenever we visit San Francisco, we try to have a meal at this restaurant. We know it’s kitschy (fish-shaped silverware) and a little expensive, but the crab legs and the shrimp Louis salad are delicious, and the view of the bay marvelous. Our waiters were most attentive and accommodating, for a great dining experience. The only knock is the homeless, addlepated man who decided to urinate into the bay right below us (at lunchtime).

Family of 6 all had great meals. The view is fantastic. The only complaint is the server passed me by for my drink order and again for my Entree order. It was a rectangular table. I might have seen it if it was a circular table and he forgot where he started. I guess I blended in. He brought the check right to me, though. 🙄

I recently visited this restaurant by invitation from a friend for her birthday. There was about 16-20 in our group. Reservations were made, but as a group we did not sit next to each other, and the staff was not accommodating either. Our reservation was for a Saturday evening 7pm. They sat us in the back. It took over an hour to get our food ordered by the waiter. Finally, they brought us hard bread, but was very skimpy on that too. Horrible customer service, food over priced!!!

This must be the third time I've eaten here in ten years. The view alone is worth the meal. The crab was good but a bit too oily and garlicy (not that I don't like garlic, but you could hardly taste the crab). The mojitos were good and the children's fish and chips were also good. Personnel was very friendly. It's a bit pricy but a better deal than most of the other restaurants in the area. I would definitely choose it over the other Pier 39/Fisherman's Wharf restaurants any day.

Excellent restaurant. All cooked to perfection, privileged view of the bay, decoration of season. Menu kids with good options. I suggest the crab enchilade.

Clam chowder excellent (recommended with shrimp), cioppino similar to the Italian one very satisfied (maybe a little salty) whole shrimp with garlic sauce (as if there were no) say funny but nothing special. High price in line with the area. Nicely furnished interior (feels like being inside a ship) with Alcatraz views and binoculars available on the table.

Big restaurant, almost empty so a little souless. Could do with a refurb. However, the food and service were good. My husband had crab and I had sea bass and we shared cheesecake. Nice beer and a good view

Decor/location: On Fisherman’s wharf, booths on a few levels for the wharf view. Decor is like a bright diner - bright to the point where sunset view is lost. Bit too 50s. Menu: Obviously, the highlight here is Dungeness crab. Many shellfish, some fish (with several preparations) & pasta choices, two beef. Service: Attentive. Quality: The garlic Dungeness crab was quite good. The “Lotsa Crab” selection was plenty for two. Cocktails OK, but nothing extraordinary. Value: Fine. The crab is not cheap, but for the portion & quality pricing was appropriate. Of three restaurants visited during our time near the wharf, this wasn’t the best, nor the worst.

I had been to The Franciscan with a friend years ago and wanted to bring my husband. I didn't plan very well though so we went on Mother's day when it was super busy. We sat at the bar to have our lunch instead of a booth, but there really is no bad place to sit, you can look out at the bay from anywhere. We both ordered the crab sandwiches, mine with chowder and hubby's with fries. The little sliders were excellent and a perfect lunch for our afternoon of walking on the Warf. The last time I had visited I had ordered the crab soup in a sourdough bowl that was absolutely amazing, and I did see some as they walked by to go to other tables, it was just too much food for our afternoon, but it looked just as good as I remember. The restaurant is on the top floor of the two-story building and there is an elevator if you need help getting to the top.

We tried this place spur of the moment and was not disappointed. Not only was the food delicious, but the presentation was spot on. Even the drinks were pretty! We sat in a big booth surrounded by pictures of old Hollywood royalty. So much to look at, while eating the freshest seafood.

We hadn't been here for several years. We used to go often. It has really gone downhill. First, the area on a Friday night (FRIDAY! NIGHT!) was dark and scary. There was no lighing in the parking lot, and the Wharf looked deserted. The restaurant did not have very many people in it. The interior looks worn. It desperately needs an update and a good cleaning. I do have to say the staff were terrific. They were pleasant, efficient and accommodating. We were seated right away. (We had a reservation.) Drinks were ok, expensive. Our food was well prepared, and tasted good. But the PRICES! What you get for what you pay is definitely NOT worth it. I realized there are many issues for restaurants these days, but this is just a rip off. Dinner for four of us was over $300. Ridiculous. We could eat at a fancy place closer to home and that amount would feed a group of 10. We will not be returning.

Having just arrived in San Francisco checked into our hotel in Fisherman’s Wharf area we spotted this impressive looking place to eat. It’s great inside like a 50s diner but for seafood. Amazing evening views over Golden Gate bay to Alcatraz. Fantastic service great value food. Of our two dishes one was average but the Clam Chowder was super. Around us there were amazing looking fresh seafood which I’d love to try. Would go back for sure

I made a reservation based on location and reviews. You cannot specify a table by the window. We were early for our reservation and I requested a table by the window and said we'd be willing to wait. The host said he'd give me the best table available. I was a bit miffed because I wanted a table by the window. To my surprise we had an excellent table by the window. He was just kidding with me. Azeril was our server and he was excellent!!! I had the crab legs. Never had done that before. Very messy but good Azeril told me how to crack them. I also ordered the vegetables for a side and the serving was so huge.

Spent a full day exploring SF & walking the Golden Gate Bridge. We walked around Fisherman’s Wharf looking for somewhere to eat. Franciscan Crab Restaurant looked inviting, with an exterior structure looking nautical. The dining room paid homage to vintage nautical decor & old Hollywood photos of actors/actresses. Plenty of seating available on this Monday evening. We were seated on the upper deck with exceptional views of the water & water traffic. Excellent service from our waiter Loren & the wait staff. We ordered a dozen oysters for appetizers. Main entrees were calamari & branzino dinner. Along with bar drinks the bill was $163. It was a very enjoyable dinner to end a perfect day of sightseeing in SF.

Disappointing experience. The view and service is decent but food is subpar if you can even say that. Ordered a crab melt to have 3 chewy cut up small baguette pieces with crab and mashed avocado. Disappointed.

If you’ve eaten crab legs and been frustrated by their lack of meat, this is the crab you’ve been missing in your life! Starting with the presentation, which is the entire crab on a platter against the gorgeous San Francisco Bay, and ending with the delicious hunks of crab meat, The Franciscan is the best place to eat on the wharf.

The look of the restaurant is very 80 style: red couches, colored lamps. The staff is very friendly and explains you the menu. Cioppino was delicious and the crab too. We had local beer. Prices are correct

I arrived around 6:00 pm seeking a table for one. Many tables were open, but I was declined because I was alone. My only option was a seat at the bar. So I left, somewhat perplexed that a sophisticated city like SFO would discriminate against a solo diner. So I went to Scoma’s, where I was warmly welcomed at a lovely table and I spent my $100 there. And it was a Monday night. Just sayin

Wanted a quick snack, so we stopped here and got an order of 3 beignets. They were made right in front of us: fresh, hot and wonderful! We sat outside and had a beautiful view of the water. A definite ‘recommend’.
Excellent Service, Food, View!
We had a large comfy round booth overlooking the water. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. The bruschetta appetizer was huge! We each had the skillet with mussels and shrimp. It was cooked to perfection. Very flavorful and nice presentation. Shrimps were a bit small but the taste made up for that.
