We went for Sunday brunch and had the tortas, pork, chicken and ahi tuna sandwiches with wonderful coffee and mango mimosa. Service was awesome, we sat outside and the weather was fabulous. The rolls that the sandwiches came on were warm fresh and soft on the inside. We loved it and will visit again.

Expectations are everything. If you expect to satisfy even the slightest hunger, look elsewhere. If you are looking for a nice place to meet your friends, this will fill the bill. Portions are microscopic and expensive given their calorie to dollar ratio. $10 bought tea followed by two mealy bite size gorditas the size of a quarter topped with chicken. Other member's of my parties servings were likewise stingy. This place reminds me of modern art, no one really understands it, but raves about it lest to be thought an idiot. The atmosphere, décor and service were top notch and casual. It's an excellent place to meet and chat with your friends. If this is your goal, then I would recommend trying it out. However, if you plan to go, eat first.

Smoothie was delicious! I felt the chips, salsa and guacamole were good but average. I felt the same about my dinner. I would return but the driver is the bread pudding and the smoothies!!! The bread pudding was unlike any other but was so good it would be the key for my return. Service was very good too.

Decor and atmosphere are very nice. Service was great. I wasent to impressed with my steak nor "papas bravas". The steak was tiny and really had no taste. The "papas" are chips covered in tapatio syle sauce. I hear from locals lunch and the smoothies are good. I might give it another chance next time I'm in town.

My wife and I spent a night in San Antonio and we're looking for a great place to have brunch. Stumbled upon Fruteria Botenero in an insert in Texas Highways magazine. After reading the short article and a brief look at the online menu, my wife and I decided that it sounded worth a try. Well, we ate there this morning and couldn't have picked a better place. The restaurant is decorated in vibrant colors and has a very clean look. We both tried one of their signature juices 'Verde and Rico Suave' and they were delicious. My wife had one of the sandwiches on the Briote bread and I had quesodilla montelenos. Everything tasted as if it had been made fresh to order. Service with a smile, freshly blended ice cold juice, and a delicious meal to start off your day, hopefully Johnny will be opening one in Houston soon!

Visited The Fruteria with some friends who have been once before. Of course we went for the Margs but after looking at the menu I couldn’t resist one of the juices. I ordered the Rico Suave and drank every sip of this delicious smoothie! My friends picked out the Costeno and ordered a second one because it was so good! My suggestions to try would be the tacos el pastor, the jicama con melon and the chicken tings Gorditas. All were so delicious! The location is easy to find and is in a quiet area. I love that it is out of the way of the river walk so you can hear each other and enjoy a colorful room that makes you feel welcome and cozy.

I typically do not try anything new and at The Fruteria, I did! I had the Al Pastor sandwich which was delicious. I also tried a new kind of (non alcoholic) beverage, instead of my usual coke. Very inexpensive, too! Check it out!

We can't say enough about our visit to The Fruiteria. Nef, the bartender, greeted us the second we walked in the door and asked what we wanted. We THOUGHT we wanted a standard margarita, but after he showed us all of the amazing infused tequilas and vodkas we weren't so sure. He offered and made us a flight of 3 different margaritas to help us decide. Not on the menu, but so delicious and appreciated! We settled on the mezcal margaritas, which were the best we'd had in San Antonio and perhaps anywhere. Nef is the best and a margarita maestro:-) Thank you so much for making us so welcome at The Fruiteria!

I had the "Puerco en mole blanco" which is fantastic. I am not really a fan of mole but I love the white chocolate mole. My wife had the "Carne asada en adobo". My daughter had "Tinga de Pollo" which was great. Fabiola is a gem, she said is one of the nicest server we have had. We will absolutely come back for more! We love this place!

There are some truly delicious dishes awaiting the diner who waits for the evening botanero service where smaller portions of some unique taste treats appear. There is a chile relleno section with a number of different variations and spice levels - something for everyone. The puff with chile and corn inside with a sweet corn cream was especially delicate and tasty. The pork in a white mole sauce however was somewhat uninspiring and could have used brighter flavors. This is a place known for its drinks and I ordered an aguas fresca which that night was watermelon. I thought it was alright but not something special, as I had expected more reading some of the other reviews. The service was adequate and the server knew the dishes, but she wasn't very enthusiastic and was basically phoning it in. The dinner could have much more enjoyable had she made some effort and put a bit of enthusiasm into her service. All in all I would go back and try some new dishes, but it wasn't nearly the experience it could have been.

I had dinner at The Fruiteria on 2 separate occasions and was impressed both times. I have tried their tacos, which were excellent and the white chocolate pork mole, which was one of the most memorable Mexican dishes I have ever tried in San Antonio. The margaritas are also great - made with house-infused tequila in a variety of flavors. The restaurant is located in a revitalized area south of downtown and has a festive, colorful interior.

The Fruteria was recommended by one of the fellows at our hotel but we looked it up first and it sounded good too. This place is one of those places that you almost never find on your own. The food is wonderful and even though their botanas or tapas-sized we barely finished. I can recommend the chipotle con puerco, the guacamole traditionale, the ceviche rojo and the chicken quesadilla. It all was good. Gabby our waitress was covering a lot of territory but she kept good tabs on us and had a winning smile. We'll be back!

Very nice place and atmosphere, the drinks were good too. But it is another Mexican flare restaurant, where you eat very tasty food at a higher price than necessary. The overhead, I'm sure is the reason for the prices of their items. Not the best Mexican food by far. It has the style of menu that La Gloria has & for this critic, I have never been impressed with La Gloria's menu. Great place to stop for a drink or two and a snack or two, because botanas is what they serve and type of place it is. Having lived in Mexico City for many years, this place may be impressive for the tourist and people who think they know Mexican food, but not for me. I will be back, but will not go out of my way to come here.

My wife and I stumbled upon this little oasis is south-town S.A. after I read a review about it. It is awesome...especially if you like fresh fruit, tequila, or Mexican food with a modern vibe. The atmosphere is delightful and a full spectrum of patrons visited while we were there, from young to old. It is so nice to see this area of San Antonio come to life and The Fruiteria is such a wonderful addition. We have already been back and plan to do so again.

Was here on Cinco de Mayo. Had a margarita. Good. Came in just when lunch hour ended. Cannot comment on the food. The chips and guacamole were good to snack on. Good place to just sit, relax and enjoy the afternoon or evening. I see they smell great smoothies also. Another great place downtown. The Chef also owns LaGloria.

We had the Tex-Mex, Choripapa, and fresh juices. All were excellent. The atmosphere was bright and vibrant. Good service. We didn't feel rushed at all. The overall experince was fun. Different things on the menu; I love new, innovative variety. Definitely worth it.

I have visited reversal times and continue to be impressed by this place. Fruit is incorporated into many dishes--it lightens up the Mexican food without sacrificing flavor. Johnny Hernandez is a San Antonio treasure who has stepped up the city's cuisine from traditional TexMex fare.

The street parking was scant, but don't let that deter you because this local restaurant is not to be missed! We were a large group with a reservation. Even though we didn't all arrive at the same time, the wait staff seamlessly brought our food and drinks. They were very welcoming, fun and very friendly. They had excellent recommendations for those of us not familiar with the menu. Our food was delicious and drink refills arrived quietly throughout our program. Its a bit noisy for large groups but we adjusted to that and had a great time! I can't wait to go back!

Went with the girls from work for a couple drinks, what a great night! The margaritas were soooo good! The food was very good- loved the queso & quesadillas. Music wasn't too loud and the staff was very attentive. Will definitely go back!

So i came here to try there jugos sinces its called fruteria you would think they would have all the fruits. I understand some are not in season. So i gave my waiter 3 choices of juice i wanted to try and they did not have any. He stated all he had was apple and orange juice which you can get any where. They need to step up their game.

Chilaquiles de Pollo y Que Fresa jugo. Crispy home made corn tortilla chips with a unique salsa and chicken topped with queso fresco and served with mashed black beans. The chicken was perfect and the salsa was mild and sweet. The "que fresa" juice was freshly made and excellent. I'm coming back!

I had heard about the The Fruteria from friends who recommended the restaurant. We ordered torts - Mexican sandwiches. The pork " pebil" and "al pastor" also pork. Both delicious and came with homemade potato chips. They served a complimentary vegetable soup which was perfect for the cool windy day. The fruit drinks were very good and you can custom order any combination of fruits in season. Staff very courteous.

six of us had an early Saturday night dinner, ordered lots of dishes and shared everything. best were pork dishes and ceviche. wonderful desserts. good but not great service. got a little noisy.

Very welcoming, friendly service, great drinks, and small-plate food to satisfy. This is on the outskirts of downtown San Antonio and a pleasant first stop to unwind. You get the feeling here that everything is prepared special for you - what more could you want?

Living in San Antonio, one gets used to the many varieties of Tex-Mex food but this was so authentic and wonderfully Mexican, I was simply blown away. The waiter was not only easy on the eyes, but very pleasant and chatted with my friend and I throughout the night. The food and drinks were fabulous. I love the concept of ordering a few plates and sharing with friends. This is not only a place I plan to visit again and again with friends, but also to take my out of town visitors to so they can experience Mexican fare done well and all at a very reasonable price. Love it!!

Went here on the recommendation of two chefs. This is a good, but unusual Mexican restaurant. Had it been better explained to us by our server when we arrived, perhaps we would have enjoyed the dining experience more. This is a "small bite" restaurant-akin to a tapas restaurant. Each item on the menu will be a small and sometimes tiny, but delicious, plate of food. Not enough for even one person's meal. I would estimate that each diner would have to order three items, to have a filling meal. At seven-$10 at plate, this will add up quickly. Most of the plates were quite delicious and unique. The house specialty drinks were also excellent. I have the cucumber vodka martini, which was very good. Unfortunately, it took a remarkably long time for our drinks to arrive, and that was before we could order. One final note, we sat at a very high table-the height of a bar. The seats were uncomfortable and difficult to push in and out. My wife did not like the fact that her chair was so high, that she could not reach down to get her purse without stepping off the chair. We were a party of six, and not knowing how the "system" worked, we did not order enough plates. I think this restaurant would be ideal for a smaller group that could share plates more easily. Should I go back again, I would perhaps enjoy the meal more, knowing what to expect and how to order.

My husband brought me to this restaurant as he had been taken here for a business lunch. We were here on a Friday evening around 5:30pm. I was given my own little coat rack to hold my purse right next to the table so I knew where it was the whole time and didn't need to struggle to find my glasses over and over. The atmosphere is strangely casual but elegant. Very easy to relax and enjoy the calming atmosphere. We shared a huge frozen margarita that was a mere $6. That's crazy and it was one of the best I have encountered. My husband ordered the asada tacos and I the shrimp tacos. They are street taco size, three per plate. The salsa was fantastic. Not usual mexican style but creamy, mild with much flavor. I loved the food and I have had many a fish and shrimp taco. Kuddos to the kitchen staff as I really found this cusine unusual, but delicious, familiar but not common. I just cannot say enough about the simple elegance of this place. Prices are very reasonable and I for sure will be returning. The staff is friendly and efficient and a manager came to the table to see what our experience was like. Thank you all for this wonderful evening.

My friends know the foodie that I am and are on the look out for places that will surprise and please me. There were some really nice aspects of the dinner that stood out as highlights- the fruit drinks (which the restaurant is named for), the cocktails, a pumpkin seed crusted cheese plate, house made potato chips were all hits. There were enough highlights for me to try again at some time in the future but I think I would visit a few more restaurants first. I understand that the chef has a couple of other restaurants as well-I would try them out before I dropped back by. There are good twisted out Mexican flavors (which I love) but it is not packaged in your typical beans and rice plate. If you want just the standard Mexican fare than this place might not make you happy-but if you like interesting food than this place will deliver.

Very good margaritas and cocktails! This is a small place but has great Mexican food with a "fine dining twist" you can say. The atmosphere is laid back though, so no need to dress up. Parking sucks because it's along the street so it's wherever you can find parking to parallel park.

My husband and I ordered the cucumber margarita and the Jarrito cocktail. Both were very tasty. We started with the mango, cucumber & jicama guacamole.....it was delicious. We split a tuna tostada, tacos al Pastor and the shrimp dish. We enjoyed every bite. Highly recommend. The service was okay. Seems like the staff needs training. Wasn’t horrible but the food was so good it would have knocked it out of the park if the service was better. I would definitely return.

My wife and I attended the Fruteria around noon on a Sunday for Brunch with another married couple we know. We were immediately seated and received amazing service through the duration of our visit. We each had a wide array of delicious drinks before we ordered food. They have an extensive drink selection with numerous fruit and alcohol concoctions. We each enjoyed our drinks immensely. My selection was an Ahi Tuna sandwich that came in parts and allowed me to assemble it myself. The food was enjoyed all around and having been there past closing, we were never asked to leave or rushed in any way. If you're looking for a great deviation from standard tex-mex, the more authentic Mexican fare of Fruteria is a great choice!

The Fruteria is a neighborhood gem that we frequent at least once a month. The food is just enough and the homemade potato chips are awesome. We usually start with some guacamole and chips and then share an entree. It can get a bit loud but it's due to all the business people coming by and having a good time. We love sitting outside and enjoying the beautiful spring, fall, and winter weather.

It helps that I live within a five-minute walk! But I've never been disappointed with the food, and the drinks are great! The Asada con Queso tacos are perfect for a light meal - add some papas bravas on the side. The Ensalada de Manzana is huge and very filling. This is not TexMex - but if your are looking for bright, fresh flavors with a kick, you can't go wrong here. And one of the nicest, friendliest waitresses I've ever met!

Had a quick business lunch here. The menu selections were nicely balanced. Not too much to choose from. The pork torta is delicious and the homemade chips were light and clean. Will definitely go back.

You should eat here! Small spot off the beaten path staffed by lovely people. The food is delicious. We had guac, queso with strawberries (it works), and an amarillo mole made with pistachios that was unique and fabulous. Drinks are fresh and yummy fruit forward cocktails. Did I mention the people? Truly kind and great service. Cool atmosphere.

I just flew in from Atlanta and after checking online restaurant reviews decided to give this place a try Wow! The guacamole was the best Cocktail menu is crazy big and delicious Ricky our server made great recommendations My wife's tune tostadas were off the chart good Will most likely try Johnny Hernandez's other restaurants while I am here visiting If you get a chance do not miss it

Their camaron tacos were beyond compare! And I'd never heard of a cucumber margarita, but so refreshing! I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone traveling to San Antonio!!

LOL at people that say "small portions" that apparently don't understand what a botanero is. It's like taps, designed with small portions so that you can try several items. Delicious drinks made with fresh fruit. Guacamole is very good. Wife had the carne asada and other friend had pork with a tomatillo sauce. I highly recommend this place for fun while enjoying great food made with obvious care.

Had a last minute margarita here to send my friend back to Austin. I've been here before a couple of years ago and had a meal. Outside of remembering that it was very good and I wanted to go back, I can't really review more than that on the food. The drinks however, were just as mouth watering a week ago as they were then. I had a margarita made with a tequila infused with habanero and several spices- I can't say that the infusion was a dominate factor in the drink but it certainly added a beautiful layer to the drink. It was refreshing, delicate balance of flavors and not sweet at all. If your craving a tasty beverage with authentic flavor made with fresh ingredients in a really cute atmosphere- this is your spot.

As locals, this place is on our frequent "go to" list. The food is incredible, everything is fresh and the juices are amazing. Try the chicken tinga and a cucumber margarita. The service is awesome. We stopped here today on our bike ride and were just a little early before opening. An employee came right out, greeted us, offered water and a menu to review. We ordered a fresh juice and fruit. This was the freshest, most delicious fruit! I love this place and will always recommend it to friends and tourists. Prices are just right.

A great place for breakfast or brunch -- fresh fruit, drinks, bread, and specialty dishes including tacos, soups and salads. Friendly staff. After a stay in San Antonio we stopped at the Airport version of Fruteria for great breakfast tacos -- and carried fruit cups on board our flight.

My husband and I love this place, but last Friday night they were a little off on their margaritas and taste of the food. I had Chile en Nogada - first time I've had it at this place. The cream sauce lacked the nutty flavor and thickness I usually get at the other place - it was rather plain. My husband had the Carne Tampiquena dish which he's eaten numerous times here because he loves it, but this time the food was cold, the portion was smaller than usual and it had less of the black mole sauce than usual. The guacamole and chips appetizer were good, no complaints there. The margaritas were off...we always get it without the infusions and they are always soooo gooood, except for that day. Maybe because it was because it was the happy hour margarita? Not sure, just thinking back on it now. I just wanted to report this because i know that Chef Johnny Hernandez would only want the absolute best at his restaurants...this way they have a chance to correct things and we can come back to the excellent experience we know we can get here next time.

Their amazing drink infusions including Spanish words I forget were amazing! The tapas style allows for sharing and the ability to try many of the dishes for the cost of a sushi night out. The crab cake tapa... . The bread pudding equally as . Us gringos were treated with top notch service and the waiter tried his best to explain everything in English. A for effort, food and drinks! Happy V Day to us!

This restaurant is tucked into a revitalized area of S. Flores and has bright colors and atristry displayed to entertain your eyes which you enjoy delicious sandiches, tapas, salads, fruit cups and more for lunch. The menu offers some really tasty sandwiches as well as delicious fresh fruit to compliment your meal. Try the smoothie of the day --- freshly made and yummy good!

Me and my boyfriend waited for our flight at this place, very fresh Ingredients and friendly bartender, loved it. I suggest low pepinos margaritas, tastes just like cucumbers with a bit of lime, boyfriend got a michelada, was also delicious

We ate here with a group on a food tour. The staff was very friendly and seemed to put a genuine effort into ensuring we enjoyed ourselves. The food was fresh and tasty - we were served fruits and a couple different types of tacos - and the margaritas were good as well. The decor was fun and festive.

Good little restaurant. Small plates - all interesting stuff well prepared. Drinks were good - not surprisingly, a little fruity. Good was surprisingly good - seafood that was fresh and well prepared, good spices, sauces that were fresh and creative. Would definitely go back.

I went to Fruteria with some local San Antonio friends. I had a margarita with their fruit infused tequila. It was yummy. I had a bowl of a traditional ceviche rojo. It was wonderful. My friends had carne asada and a tuna dish. Everyone was very happy with our choices. My friends spit a dessert that they liked very much.

After trying there tropical fruit mix drinks I was amazed on how great they tasted. There food is good too especially the Mexican sub " torta" a really nice to take a date before you start the night

LOVED this place. Color feels Guatemalan, décor is classy yet restful, the food is creative, unusual and fabulous. GO

I love how they put a little twist to every dish... Very tasty and it seems quite healthy. Their happy hour is a great deal comes with free appetizer. Good seating is limited so get there early!

My wife and I ate here on a San Antonio Food Tour. The food was fabulous! We had a sampling of 2 different fruit smoothies, mole, chips and 2 types of salsa, chicken chalupa, and refried beans. The food was excellent. They had many types of fruit infused drinks and margaritas on the menu. Everything we tried was excellent.

Location: Not too far off the freeway, no worries on getting lost around trying to find it with your GPS! Customer Service: The customer services is great, what I loved the most also is that they come around with this little stand for ladies to hang their purses, now why can't they do this for all restaurants!! Decor: Everything from the outside to the inside is eye catching. Beautiful colors, and great decor all around!! Presentation of Food: Well presented. How did the food taste: Sooo good! The chillaquilles was great and the watermelon drink I had was amazing! Also I got the Mango Melon margarita which was just sooooo refreshing! The guac they serve with their chips for a starter was also very good. The ingredients all seem fresh and the food delicous! Overall Experience: Great way to end my trip in San Antonio! Tex-Mex at it's finest!

The selection list of available items is relatively short, and for a vegan or vegetarian this could be a problem, but not here. It was hard to choose a number of really delicious options. The location seems a bit out of the way, but the trek to get there was worth it.

Just to clarify- yes, there is food served here but no, it is not a meal. A "botanero" means a snack, so to say so it's not that there are small portions as many reviews have mentioned, it is because it isn't meant to fulfill a meal. Having said that, the tasty dishes are worth a try and seem pretty authentic to me. The aguas frescas are the drinks of la cultura and here there is a sweet twist added. Lovely environment and service, as well.

We were visiting San Antonio and came here for lunch on a friend’s recommendation...so glad we did! The restaurant has a fun, trendy vibe and the food is anything but basic! Our group started with Sangria, Margaritas, Papas Bravas, and chips and guacamole. Everything was wonderful but the Papas Bravas (homemade potato chips with chili, lime, sea salt and queso fresco)were especially tasty. We fought over the last one! We also had a chicken tinga tostada and a yellowfin tuna tostada - both excellent! The best dish at our table was the Chile en Nogada (roasted poblano stuffed with beef picadillo). Everything had some unusual twist that made it memorable. Since we loved lunch so much we decided to have dessert too...we had the Arroz con Leche (rice pudding with fruit - this was the only part of the meal we thought was just “ok”) and the Capirotada (bread pudding - which was amazing!) We can’t wait to go back!

My wife was born in Mexico City so she was brought up eating Mexican food. To her going to Fruteria is like going home.

Saturday night. Our family enjoyed the tinga chicken and pollo en mole. Both very good. The side tortillas tasted home made. The starter chips were thick and authentic. and the two sauces excellent. The atmosphere is fun. The residents of the attached apartment building are lucky to have The Fruteria there. Service was very attentive.

This was such a fun place to go, we tried it at breakfast and another day at lunch when we were visiting San Antonio. Apparently the owner/chef Johnny Hernandez has several venues around San Antonio. I don’t know about the others, but this was funky fun. Decorated in bright colors with a modern city Mexican décor. We admired the glasses and were told all the tableware was bought in Mexico. There was also a bench outside where you can sit alongside a skeletal metal fruit lady. Great picture op! The food was great and the service matched. Loved the margaritas!

Loved it all except I'd rather drink my margurita rather than eat it. But the food was unique and excellent

Enjoyed the food. Great service! Had the guacamole with mango pineapple and grapes, grilled panels cheese with berries and the chile en nogado with is a pepper filled with beef, sundried fruits in a walnut sauce. All were very tasty.

The service is great. The drinks are great! The food is exceptional! The only drawback here is parking (especially on a First Friday)

The Fruteria is trendy and colorful and original. Located on San Antonio's near Southside in an area that was a couple of years ago a decaying hodgepodge of failed businesses, dirty streets and questionable nighttime activities, this small, airy restaurant has taken over a portion of the ground floor of a building that now boasts nice condos upstairs - but was once a run-down industrial building that was home to a variety of failed businesses, similar to others dominated the landscape of that section of town in years gone by. Happily, the entire neighborhood has undergone a renascence and reminds me somewhat of the popular "Southtown" neighborhood on South Alamo and The Fruteria-Botanero by Johnny Hernandez is part of the resurgence. The Frutería reminds one of traditional Mexican fruit stand by day, a botanero (snacks, etc.) by night and a trendy weekend brunch spot all at the same time. The bright colors all around and fresh fruit placed throughout the dining area as "working decorations" remind me of the fruit stands one might encounter south of the border or in certain parts of San Antonio and Laredo. Original ethnic/Mexican/San Antonio art is everywhere - some really great stuff and some, well, maybe Johnny was doing a buddy a favor with some of the rest. But, it's all real and original and frankly refreshing, colorful and unpretentious. The place feels casual, contemporary, ethnic and fun. The outdoor tables are right outside the front door and within a few feet of S. Flores Street. The menu is purposefully light but heavy on fresh pressed juices and smoothies - I don't think there's a fruit they have left out and if one of the juice combos doesn't fit your taste, they will make one to your order. You could eat here for a month and never get to all the combinations of jugos and botanas - fruit cups and salads and Mexican sweets and handcrafted cocktails and all kinds of spicy/roasted peanuts and pecans and stuffed chilies rellenos and tostadas (try the Ceviche rojo - yummy) and gorditas and Chipapitas and two more pages of fun stuff. We went with friends for Sunday brunch and all four of us were impressed. My buddy and I ordered tortas (large egg-McMuffin served on a Mexican Birote roll) that contained scrambled eggs, Mexican sausage (chorizo), black beans, onions, avacado and a nice, light crema. Surprisingly good. The ladies opted for Chicken Tinga Tostadas which were praised by both. Nothing overwhelming in the spice department, but rather a nice, flavorful combination of tastes and spices that worked quite well together. I was very pleasantly surprised by the excellent coffee - dark, deep flavors with zero bitterness. Had three cups! Service was very informal and very personal. Our server took her time in answering the many questions we had about the food, the place, the drinks, the decorations, how Johnny Hernandez is doing, how's the kids, etc. But more importantly, all our needs were anticipated and any request we had were promptly dealt with. This is the sort of place that both the folks who live in the neighborhood, tourists coming from downtown and the rest of us adventuresome diners can all enjoy equally. We'll be back for sure.

We had a wonderful evening enjoying tasty Margaritas and conversation on the outside patio. They only serve fruit during the day, but our terrific server was able to make an exception as she rounded up a beautiful fruit bowl for my wife.

Excellent service with best drinks in Texas. Love their pork belly mole. Had the mojito-Tex. Great south side location

This is the perfect spot to take your out of town guest. The drinks are original and fantastic! The apps are excellent too - we didn't get a chance to have anything else, but we will definitely be back. This is a very fun spot! Excellent service too! If you are visiting or just love San Antonio this place is a must! Enjoy!

We headed out to an art exhibit where a friend had some art showing. We stopped by the restaurant because the others had heard about it. The Fruteria is where johnny hernandez, supposedly a great chef, had some special creations on the menu. I'd never heard of him but I found out his menu items were very special. Unusual, not the standard fare, and something you will enjoy. The portions were a bit small for me, but not for the other three with me. We had all had something different and shared. All were very good. Not a large place so if you plan on going, get a reservation. It's just south of downtown San Antonio and an easy quick cab ride if you don't feel like driving. It's in Southtown. There is alot of things to do around there within walking distance, after enjoying. Worth a visit and not a heavy meal. Don't expect the regular chips and hot sauce, cheese enchiladas, or whatever else the Tex-Mex places serve. This is really different, and I think it's really healthy stuff. Fresh and unique describes it best.

The food is authentic Mexican and it is amazing. Portions are small but it just means you have more room for their amazing drinks. The restaurant has several large tall tables which make it a great spot to come with friends.

I've lived in San Antonio for nearly 20 years and this has to be one of the best Mexican restaurants in town. Fresh, vibrant, classy, good service, you name it! We brought our baby daughter in the stroller, and the staff was able to accommodate. If you park in the alley behind the lofts (free parking), you can walk there in under a minute. The Aguas frescas can't be beat.
Different and interesting
We had the chicken Tinga tostada which I loved, and the Tuna tostada which I liked because it was very fresh, but the lime flavor drowned out the fresh ahi flavor, so I can't give it a rave. The juice was lovely - I recommend adding a banana to the strawberry, orange and pineapple combination to give it a little sweetness. I want to go back in the morning to try the breakfasts.
