The poor half first - totally ignored by the waitress for at least 40 minutes - had to practically beg to be able to order some drinks. Then fake ‘niceness’ from her for the rest of the evening. The good bits (the 2nd half) - the food was good - really recommend the scotch egg.

Great location and great food. I really enjoyed the Elk dinner and my golf buddy had the fried lobster. Everything was great and the wine pairing was fantastic. Reasonable prices for the food quality. Service was right on...thanks Olekskii! Highly recommend the dessert menu. One thing that we didn't know is that parking is provided for a reduced cost at a nearby garage. Only thing I would recommend is a little more space between tables. Great experience!

Wanted a tasty little meal before spending time at the art institute. Jason, our knowledgeable server recommended a summer chicken salad for my wife and a wedge salad for me Both were excellent as was the service! Highly recommend…

Food was great and the service was fantastic. Came in solo and sat at the bar. Jacquline made me feel right at home. Great recommendations for food, and other dining experiences in town. Had the Brussels as an app, coconut curry with shrimp, and creme brûlée. Would certainly return. Thank you Jacqueline!!

The food was excellent. There was a special Irish fare on the menu for St Patrick's weekend. I had shoulder of lamb on creamy mash potatoes and my wife had Shepards pie. Both dishes were tasty and well presented. Service was also ace.

Outstanding. Service and Food met and exceeded expectations. Was our first visit and we can’t wait to go back. Romy was our server and was just super.

The ambiance, the service and food were excellent. I had the salmon sandwich and French Onion Soup. The dessert was awesome called the profiteroles.

Nice dinner spot with a good selection. Just got into town that evening and were not too hungry. We had a Bavarian pretzel as an appetizer (seasonal Octoberfest menu item) and shared the scallop dish and fish and chips. Delicious meal with excellent service.

Went here for dinner after a long day of sightseeing in Chicago. The restaurant itself was gorgeous and a beautiful setting for a nice romantic meal. My wife and I started with the mussels, which were excellent. I then had the halibut (my favorite fish) and my wife had a fancy salad, which she greatly enjoyed.

Fabulous as always! Tuna was seared to absolute perfection. The seasonings were uniquely a little spicy but not at all too much. Highly recommend this dish!

Beautiful place, professional service, good food, not too salty as is often the case in the US. Good burgers Typically American atmosphere. I recommend

We were hungry on our walk back from the Art Institute. We were looking for someplace to grab lunch and luckily chose The Gage! The vintage atmosphere is both Iconic and comfortable, the staff was fantastic, and the food outstanding! Our table ordered a variety of items including the Steak Frites, the Gage burger and one of the best salads I have ever had! I highly recommend The Gage for a fabulous meal!

Beautiful restaurant on Michigan Avenue across from Art Institute. Very attentive waiter. We were there for lunch. Nice variety on menu. I had the fish and chips, which were easily one of the best if not the best I have ever had! French fries were crispy and the fish was in a light batter, very flaky and no fishy taste! My husband had the rib eye steak sandwich which he said was very good also. Nice bar are too and one on the lower level too.

Came for a late dinner. Service was quick and friendly. Our server even happily set up our desserts to go as we were exhausted and ready for our hotel. Food was delicious. Wish I had time to eat here again.

When we arrived at the restaurant we were treated in a very impersonal way and with little sympathy. We walked through three huge rooms full of people and a lot of noise, until we sat at our desk which was located in a backroom. The service is fast, they serve quickly because the goal is to turn the tables several times. Bring the bill without us asking. We've drawn attention to that. It is one of those restaurants where the goal is maximum profit so the more people serve the more earn, regardless of the quality of the service. The food is served in huge doses but is delicious. The price quality ratio is reasonable. Wouldn't be repeating if we stayed longer in Chicago. I think the reviews of the restaurant are far from the truth. But if they improve customer service with a sympathetic and attentive approach they can improve considerably.

Excellent scallop and perfect dessert. A very classy brewery. For an evening both distinguished and warm.

This is a great spot for lunch and dinner. We came here twice because we loved the salad selection. Maggie our waitress was fantastic :) The lunch menu is a better budget price for travelers.

Nice atmosphere. Beautiful setting. Great service. Brussels sprouts as a starter. Not exactly what I expected as a Belgian, but very tasty. Halibut as main course. The combination with the green vegetables and the mashed peas worked very well. I would have liked it abit more spicy, but that’s a detail, I would definitely go back

Stopped in as a single business traveler……no reservation. The hostess was very welcoming and immediately sat me at a very nice table……even though the restaurant was busy. I had the tuna tartare and burger. Both were healthy portions and delicious. I took my time, caught up on emails and relaxed before a busy set of meetings the following day. The staff could not have been friendlier and I never felt rushed. I would highly recommend the spot.

My friend and I had just arrived in Chicago. We dropped our things off, changed, and had a 9pm reservation for The Gage. We were seated right on time and were able to sit outside in their covered area on the sidewalk. It was separated from walking traffic by huge planters and felt very cozy. The weather was nice and we could feel the night air as we dined. Service was great. We had an amazing waiter, Taylor. We shared a fondness for Sinatra. He helped my friend pair a wine with her dinner, and he offered us some additional Chicago info on where to go. Super friendly, would definitely request him if I were back in town ;). I had a simple dish - fish and chips. It was delicious. Also tried the 3-cent soda; it wasn't too sweet and was nice and refreshing. My friend had the mushroom pasta dish (can't remember the name), but she also liked it, and Taylor picked out an excellent red wine to go with it. Ambiance was nice. Service was great. Food was delicious. definitely worth checking out. They have everything from meals under $20 to prime rib at $70, so there's something for everyone.

Great food and good atmosphere! They were very busy, but we were seated promptly and had excellent service. Highly recommend!

This restaurant is excellent. Also, our server Andy was exceptional! Friendly and knowledgeable ! Our food was wonderful.

We hosted a guest program for the spouses of our conference's attendees and brought them in for a private three-course lunch and it did not disappoint. Our guests thouroughly enjoyed their experience and came back with extremely postive reviews on the quality of the food and the speed of servce. Erin was so kind, helpful, and communicative throughout the process and I am so thrilled that our guests enjoyed their experience!

Great place to eat. We had oysters, scallops and the fried lobster. Everything was delicious. Portion of the scallops is a bit small though. Make sure to book a table upfront. We had a high top table, which was fine as we did not make a reservation and did not want to wait for a box.

Our last night in Chicago we liked the reviews and Michelin comments which made us dine at The Gage. We were not disappointed. This place reminds me of Gramacey Tavern in NYC with its red leather seating, lots of wood and tiling and an eclectic set of pictures on the walls. My partners pea tortellini was one of the best he has eaten and I enjoyed a halibut dish which was well cooked and moorish. We shared a side of chips with curry sauce (served on the side). We have found wine prices expensive in Chicago and the list caters for all price points. We settled on a Aslina Chardonnay from South Africa which we enjoyed. No desert - though 2 brandy coffees hit the spot. The damage €205 excluding a tip. A very enjoyable meal - not cheap - though a great way to celebrate our time in Chicago.

We first visited The Gage years ago when they first opened and on two recent visits to Chicago visited again and were not disappointed. The food, the service and the ambiance were all outstanding. We look forward to visiting again the next time we are in town.

Stopped by for lunch. Two salads were ordered, one steak and one nicoise. Both were nothing short of outstanding. The steak salad may have been one of the best lunches I have ever eaten. Service was also great. Will be back!

The food was fantastic for brunch. We had the gage breakfast, an avocado toast and 1 plain pancake. The pink mimosa was also wonderful. Marshall was our server and was not great. It was difficult to get simple things such as salt and ketchup. The heated patio was delightful and the atmosphere was great too. Other than the service, a great experience.

Food was fantastic. Service was poor. You wouldn’t think this was a high end restaurant based on the service. We had to wait on a server most of the afternoon and it wasn’t even 5pm.

I’ve eaten here several times and it’s consistently excellent. Even though it’s right on Michigan Avenue, near Symphony Hall, the Art Institute, and Millennium Park (a touristy part of Chicago) the food and service are always good. The restaurant is comfortable and quiet enough for a conversation. I’ve enjoyed the apple and fennel salad, orzo soup, burger, and reuben sandwich. All were fresh and tasty.

Enjoyed a fantastic Sunday brunch here! The grapefruit with the bourbon glazed top was an unexpected hit! The pancakes were fluffy and perfectly served! We would definitely come back to this location!

Fabulous restaurant - great location, classic decor, great menu, and fabulous service. Even with the crowds around the holidays, we had hot food and great service! Love the seating areas with the fireplaces! Very cozy.

My girl friend and I both got sick here, on different meals. When I mentioned it to others at a cancer walk the next day, two others said they had gotten sick there before, and had heard others had gotten sick eating there. I am not commenting on the service because you that doesn't matter if you cant serve food that doesn't make you sick.

A pleasant brunch made all the better thanks to them serving Laurent Perrier Rose, my favourite. Pleasant, friendly staff if somewhat a little OTT at times. Some lack of knowledge when asking about their portions for Champagne, trying to ascertain whether was better value to order the bottle which is usually the case when comparing glass price against bottle. Nice soup to start with followed by, albeit a bit too quickly, by an omelette, which for me was a little undercooked. The saving grace was the LP Rose. Rather quieter than I expected, the Memorial Day Weekend probably being a factor. Would return for the LP Rose alone and also to try out dinner or lunch as the menu looked good.

We had late dinner reservations but since our flites all got into Chicago early and we were ready to eat, we walked over and asked if they could take us at 5:15 instead of our scheduled 7:30 pm, and it worked out great. We had shrimp cocktail (fantastic!), mussels, and beet salad. Then we had halibut and twice baked potato as side as well as creamed spinach. That was one fantastic main course. Other person had bison burger. For dessert we split 2: tres leches (my favorite) and a chocolate dessert. Also excellent drink selection. The service could not have been more attentive. The whole meal was one of the most pleasant in years.

The food, ambiance, and service were all stellar! I got to taste everything that was served to our table, and it was all delicious. I’ll have a hard time deciding what to get next time! We will be back!

Great ambience, very good food, good wine selection, great service. Excellent Lobster Mac’n’Cheese with plenty of tasty lobster, other menu choices very good, upgrade to truffle fries recommended.

After a clamorous meal in another highly rated bistro, our group enjoyed the lively, but somewhat subdued atmosphere at Gage. Banquette seating was more than adequate for five. Extensive cocktail list. All we sampled were excellent. Service was prompt and professional. Food, from pasta to fish and chips to curry dishes was outstanding. Looking forward to returning soon.

We were early for our reservation and sat at the bar before dinner. Taylor the bartender was friendly and personable and made an excellent drink. I described my preference and he made an excellent cocktail with the perfect flavor profile- elderflower, rose gin, lemon, sparkling wine. Delicious. We kept dinner simple- just an appetizer and a salad/burger for entrees. Appetizer was the melted brie with bread and roasted pears…to die for!!! Our waitress (I forgot her name) was lovely and ensured we left on time for our show. Overall great experience.

Food portions are really small The atmosphere is good and so is the service the food was good but the portions are really small and I ordered an entree it was less than an appetizer

Great Mood, nice staff, tasty dishes! We really liked it! We would definitely come back! Value for money fits!

Beautiful table outside, great service. Our server Taylor was very courteous and paituened with us 4 ladies deciding on our lunch meal. We enjoyed our lunch so much we will definitely come back. This is my second time by the way.

Of course, I was going to The Gage when I was in town. I made an online reservation before traveling. That worked out fine. The reservation sent reminders and I was able to modify that reservation to include a couple more people. All was ready when we arrived for lunch. Our waitress, Opal L, was ready for us. her good attitude added to the fun mood. She made some drink and food suggestions and answered all our questions. She also provided us with separate checks. I had the venison burger, as did two more at the table. One in our group had the ancient grain bowl salad. We all had drinks. It was perfect. Seating was in a back room, but they did have tables outside, in front, I saw and at the bar.

Not bad, loud enough like all restaurants made in Chicago but bearable. Efficient Service even if the waiter has the wrong dishes.

The restaurant is well decorated, the food is average for the price you pay. Honestly there are better options in Chicago.

The Gage consistently ranks among our top dining destinations whenever we visit Chicago. The quality of the food is consistently excellent, and their accommodating approach to dietary restrictions, particularly for vegans, is truly commendable. While the fish and chips, a favorite among our family members, have been compared to the best in London, the menu offers a diverse selection to suit every palate. Given its popularity, we highly recommend making reservations in advance to avoid disappointment.

Dropped in for dinner on a Monday evening. The atmosphere is nice and the service was great. The food was mediocre and given the cost, was a bit of a disappointment. Fish and chips - the fish was very bland. The fillet was pretty good. The fried pickles were good - I’d order those again but I’d stay clear of the fish and chips.

The Gage feels like a real downtown Chicago upscale eatery, and has a great ambience and pleasant staff. Great location and design. However I felt the main course tortellini was exceptionally small for €28, and the started prawn cocktail was 4 jumbo prawns for €28. Superb quality no question, but please increase portion size!

Dined before a show at the auditorium theater. Participated in the restaurant week menu which was very good. Apple fennel salad was ok. Lamb biryani was very good. Our server was excellent. Very warm and accommodating, timing our meal perfectly for an on time departure. Her wine recommendation was also very good. Nice booth in corner and very good food and drinks made for an enjoyable evening.

Great spot by Millennium Park. We dined here for lunch. Went with friends. Smallish menu. Good food. BYOB. They did NOT do Restaurant Week lunch menu on weekends. Very good service.

I ordered a burger with fries, it was tasty. My daughter had a salad with no protein. The food was good nothing exceptional. Our server was nice but we felt rushed the entire time. I understand that they need to move people in and move people out, but this was almost to the point of being uncomfortable. In addition to that, when we were seated, we were sat all the way to the back, mainly with other families. It felt as if they were keeping the front tables for couples or adult parties. It was just my feeling, I could be wrong, but that was my vibe for what it’s worth.

This downtown establishment is an excellent choice for dining and imbibing. Even on weeknights, it exudes a vibrant gastropub atmosphere, complete with live music and a selection of local beers and expertly crafted cocktails served by friendly and enthusiastic bartenders. The expansive bar and cocktail area, along with the enclosed patio offering a view of Millennial Park, provide ample space for enjoyment. During my visit, I had a delightful time indulging in both dinner and drinks at the bar, and I must say, the Scotch egg I tried was unequivocally the best I've ever had!

Stayed in the loop so I could walk from my hotel. Had dinner by myself, the waiter was really kind and the food was delicious! Had a plate of mixed desserts which I loved.

We were looking forward to our dinner at The Gage. For a start the food wasn’t cheap, but when the bill was presented to us an additional 3.2% had been added. Classed as surcharge. We were then given a choice of adding 20%, 22%, or 24% for service charge. We are happy to tip for good service but do not like to be told what we should give.

I took myself here for a solo dining experience sans kids & husband. I am SO glad I did. Everyone there from host to bar back to bartender to server was incredibly polite, friendly, helpful, allllll of the good adjectives. I sat at the bar and ordered the N/A-pertif spritz (perfect for the sweltering day). Fizzy, light, and lovely. I ordered the shrimp cocktail as a starter and the scallops as my main. Both were phenomenal. I wish I lived in Chicago and could eat here every day. I would try everything on the menu and I am positive it would all be delicious. I wish I had room to try one of their dessert offerings, but I did not have the time. I will definitely bring my family here on future trips to Chicago. Such happy food memories. Thank you all for the best meal I’ve ever had in Chicago! I will dream of it!

After a 4 hour flight delay before our flight from Philly to Chicago we finally arrived at the Palmer House. A 4 hour travel day had turned into 12. The Gage is just blocks away and had everything we needed. Very good food and wine, and our server, Wes, was outstanding helping two tired travelers order and pair well.Saved the day!

Great food and service. Thanks for making it a great evening. The appetizers and dessert was great. I will definitely be coming back.

An Experience is a word for The Gage. Although with limited vegetarian options for lunch was a setback but the steward ensured I had a nice time. The selection of wine is awesome. Would surely be back here someday sometime

Booked this restaurant a month in advance as it was recommended. The ambiance and atmosphere was fantastic . Great food and the cocktails were spot on. The only issue is the pressure to order immediately and before you can finish your food the bill was presented to you ! It’s not a fast food restaurant and expected better ending to a great eating experience

Went after the Georgia O'Keefe exhibit at the Art Institute. The greeters and Hostess were professional and polite. The service was excellent... and the cuisine amazing! It was a first time for my 2 guests and they were impressed. Perfect for a special evening out!

Tiny portions, lackluater service, very expensive. And they don’t even serve $10 beers in beer glasses!!! A true ripoff

I called as we were walking towards The Gage, no reservations and chancing it. What a delight, they said first come first serve to be seated at the patio. We had a wonderful time, good food, alive with spirits such as Madeira, German Lager and green tea finishing off with blueberry cheesecake and lemon crème brûlée. I’d come again 😃

Excellent Food, Menu Service & Location..service was especially good. Interesting menu options - something for everyone

We went to this restaurant because it closed the kitchen at 23:00h and also was next to our hotel. Arriving in Chicago a little late, we found it a perfect choice. Spacious, cozy place, with terrace and a little dark like most restaurants in American cities. We ordered a Cesar Salad and some scallops, all very good. Excellent service.

The Gage Cesar salad with iced Irish coffee hit the spot after a nice walk downtown. Other selections in our party included Housemade Corned Beef Hash, Croque Madame, Advocado Toast, a side of sausage, and a Pink Mimosa. Presentation of all food and beverages was flawless, service was outstanding, and the quality and tastes were all wonderful; it was all very enjoyable!

Highly recommended. Very good food. Well presented, quality. But the best, the Service. It doesn't hurt to tip here. Friendly, but not burdened and above all, consequential. They were slow to bring one of the dishes quite a bit, they warned us then apologized and did NOT charge us, they even bought us a beer! For a little more money, I recommend it

We chose to ear at The Gage because of it’s reputation. It was very difficult to get a reservation. Very pleasant ambience -starter inedible, main course good. Bill presented before we had finished eating. Waitress was very off-hand. Showed no interest in what was wrong with the starter and did not return to our table, so did not know or seem to care that there was obviously something not quite right with it. The starter, with nothing obviously eaten, was cleared As the bill was presented before we had finished eating, the waitress must have been presumed that we didn’t want coffee etc., she was off hand throughout, giving the impression that she did not really want to serve us. To cap it off - having paid the bill and left the restaurant, she had the audacity to run down the street after us to remonstrate about the fact that we had not left a tip. When the reason was given she reluctantly offered to remove the charge for the inedible starter. This restaurant appears to be more about style than substance and at about 200 dollars it wasn’t what I expected and would caution others to think before eating there

They don't take reservations past 9 PM. They don't belong on TripAdvisor's list of late night Loop restaurants.

Everything about our Easter brunch experience was fantastic-- atmosphere, service, and the food! Each of the four of us ordered something different, and all were artfully presented and delicious. I can't recommend this place strongly enough. It's very convenient to many downtown attractions, too.

Thank you Tripadvisor! We found this place just looking through Tripadvisor as we walked the park. What a find! Wonderful beer & cocktail list and great food. The table next to us had brunch. We did a standard lunch. My wife had fish & chips and they were delicous. I had the venison burger, which is a house specialty and a must! Order it medium however as my medium rare was more on the rare side. Now the best part: Joe. This guy knocked it out of the park with service you just hope for. Great job Joe!!! Next time in Chicago, we will be back.

The food is Michelin-worthy. The Venison burger and chicken biryani are life changing. Seriously. The service was just okay. Perhaps it was an off night. We would visit again, however.

Hello guys, I’ve been coming to this restaurant for about 5 years, the standard is interestingly keep getting better, the quality of the food is top, and the staff are very friendly and attentive. I rate their burger full mark with distinction

This restaurant was excellent in all respects. My sister and I stopped in before a show at the Chicago Symphony Center. The vibe inside is refined yet casual and the decor is neat; very art deco/20s. My drink (Spring Sling) was strong and delicious. We split a scotch egg, which was SO GOOD (I'm still thinking about it!) Perfectly spiced sausage, egg soft-boiled just right, crispy crust, and delicious mustard. On to the main course--I had the lamb vindaloo. I am also still dreaming of this dish. WOW! So flavorful and packed just the right punch. The lamb was succulent and fell right off the bone, the veggies were buttery, the herbs were fresh--everything about this dish was perfect. We ended with dessert. I had the chocolate mousse, which was incredibly rich and to die for. I will definitely be visiting again next time I'm in town!

We came here as we couldn’t get into the next door restaurant without a booking. We were not disappointed. Suffice to say we came here twice. Once for dinner and another time for lunch. Great good, wine and service.

Terrible service. Waiter judged how we ate our burrata (no bread). We ordered the steak from the beginning, and 45 minutes later the waiter entered it at the kitchen. We will not come back.-

The Gage is a fabulous restaurant with a fantastic staff!! My husband and I were in Chicago to celebrate our friends 10th Anniversary!! We are all from Rhode Island and wanted to experience Chicago!! We absolutely love Chicago and are thrilled we found The Gage, so much so we went 2 days in a row!! The food is delicious, we had salads with protein that were amazing along with steak sandwiches and the burger, all were to die for!! The drinks are beyond scrumptious!! We sat at the bar both days because of the fantastic bartenders, Fabio, Stephanie and Taylor!! They all went above and beyond to please us!! It was very busy on the Sunday and I asked Fabio what kind of drink he was making for just about all of them!! He answered me every time with a big smile and such pride!! All 3 bartenders were absolutely WONDERFUL!! There was a bus person that I unfortunately didn’t get his name but he was also great!! I would highly recommend going to The Gage when you are in Chicago!!

Great location on Michigan avenue across from Millennium Park. The restaurant is warm and inviting with a great bar in front and a dining room in the back with views of the food going out. Lots of great food selections. My favorite was the poutine, but careful, it's a meal in itself. Outstanding service and reasonable food prices.

Whilst over in Chicago on business a few new restaurants were tried The Gage being one of them. Situated in ‘The Loop’ it oozes atmosphere, was nice and busy which is always a good sign. It was the 17th annual ‘Chicago Restaurant Week’, a time where ‘prixe-fix’, fixed price menus are available in many eateries, The Gage had one. Suffice to say, the food was excellent, some raw fish done ceviche style really got the taste buds moving, adorned with some radish, onion, spicy chilli and pomegranate it was a brilliant starter. There was a lot of choice for mains, meat, fish which is my usual goto, this time I picked the Squash Agnolotti, a good test of the kitchen getting the pasta to the perfect thickness, properly seasoned filling and enough of it to balance the casing. It was another knockout dish, siting alongside sage breadcrumbs and basil butter, truly delish. I was full at this point so the dessert was shared with colleagues, a sharp lemon and meringue creation, a great palate cleaner to finish. The Gage was great, atmosphere, service and food spot on, comes well recommended. Worth a visit if you are in town.

The Brunch had lots of excellent options on a nice patio to get away from the hustle and bustle. We liked the brunch punch and crab cakes. Service was attentive and lots of options.

To call it a gastropub is selling it short. Excellent food, ambience, service, bar. Wonderful location across from Millennium Park and AIC.

Birch at the Gage was delicious. We had the Lemon ricotta pancakes, spice cider donuts with salty caramel sauce and the best chicken soup with Irish coffee. We sat outside and it was very comfortable. I am uncomfortable with how hot restaurants are during the winter. Sitting outside with the heaters was perfect in a Sunday morning.

Excellent hamburger lunch in smart but relaxed setting with great service. This place is well worth a visit just for the quality of the food and service and its location opposite Millennium Park and the Art Institute is an added bonus for a tourist.

It was wonderful, 3rd time here. The steak was under cook and went out of the way to correct the problem. Waitress and manager top notch. A fun place

Great Service, good atmosphere, good value. We came to celebrate and we did. The scotch egg was fantastic, highly recommend. The lamb vindaloo was an entire lamb shank with some sauce and jalapenos. Really enjoyed the sour cherry cheesecake for desert. While the restaurant was busy, the noise level was not high, we were able to easily talk. Really enjoyed the experience.

We spent a lovely few hours here on a late Sunday afternoon after exhausting ourselves at the Art Institute. The service was very good, polite and efficient; and the food was delicious! Probably the best fish and chips we’ve had in a long time. And, the Apple Cobbler is to die for literally, it could feed a small army, it’s huge!

My husband and I eat at The Gage whenever we're in town. We've enjoyed everything we've ever had on the menu; this time the Lamb Vindaloo was a particular standout. Everyone on the staff is personable, efficient, and attentive (our waiter, David, was especially delightful). That's a testament to the leadership of the owner and the manager, who both stopped by our table to make sure everything was to our liking. They are clearly setting a standard of excellence, and we can't wait for our next visit to Chicago to eat here again!

This restaurant is also on the Chicago michelin Guide and is easily bookable with OpenTable. The place inside is American style, very nice. Menu with few dishes but interesting. The main courses are fairly generously sized dishes. We tried the mussel soup and the venison burger and as a side dish a roast potato dish with black summer truffle. Finally a dessert to share (chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream). Drink a bottle of South American riesling (wine list rather stocked with bottles from $50 upwards). We spent in 2 about 140 dollars. It was a great dinner, with attentive, fast and friendly service. Recommendation!

Thanks to Natalia, Thanen and Billy for making our apres-symphony family event so special! I already frequent the Gage and appreciate the attention and accommodating last moment changes. The dessert & cocktails were divine!

The food was really good. The waitress was exceptionally nice and kept making sure things were okay. The food was ready very very quickly also which is great. It has a nice interior and lies right in-front of the millennium park - so great location as well. Def recommended

Came here at the end of December, hadn't booked it just purely took a chance on the reviews from google and I am so glad we did. Food was amazing, service was great and had a really lovely vibe to it. We were in a couple but I saw a few groups of families and friends, so I really do think this caters for all. The cobb salad was amazing and so were the mussels. Would definitely recommend

Every time, a complete hit. The food, the service, the management, all of it. This is one of our most favorite places in town to stop. You truly cannot beat it.

Classics with a contemporary twist. Delicious and appealing.Dinner, lunch and brunch all excellent . Creative drinks program

My wife and I went twice to this restaurant. It is well located and as you enter you are greeted by wonderful staff who will arrange your seating. Unfortunately, I did not remember the receptionist’s name but she arranged for exactly what we asked for, a quiet comfortable table. The food and service was great, very friendly and yet still professional. Oh yes, the toilets were the best I’ve ever had the need to visit. Best of all the bill wasn’t too hefty.

2d time here, 1st time for dinner, early reservation, 4 people. We got our appetizers (fried pickles-very good) before our drinks. Very dark booths, could not see menus or food. Chicken was dry, fried fish was excellent, fries over cooked. Ordered a $70 bottle of wine, waiter brought $120 bottle, and charged us $120, he was not very attentive overall. Disappointed!

If there’s one place in Chicago that nails the city’s vibe, it’s The Gage. Perfectly situated on Michigan Avenue, directly across from the iconic Cloud Gate (yes, the Bean!), it’s a staple. Their lobster roll is a must-try – creamy, fresh lobster layered in a rich, buttery bread roll. Every bite is pure messy hand and face indulgence. You’ll need an extra cloth napkin but things could be worse. My colleague had the fish and chips and everything was perfectly crispy. And, if you’re a people-watcher, the front patio is prime seating. You get a front-row view to all the action and shenanigans on Michigan Avenue.

The service was great. The meal was excellent. I had the chicken dish and the buffalo cauliflower. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere. We sat at the bar and that was tight, but everything else made that not matter that much.

The menu looked great, but some of the food was not. We had mussels to start and they were delicious but it could have had more spicy sausage. The scallops were delicious as well. We ordered the prime steak au poivre medium rare but it came out medium. It was very thin. The lobster looked amazing, but the preparation lost any of the lobster flavor. Sadly disappointed

Elegant gastropub with a romantic atmosphere, as well as an enviable location (right in front of the iconic Millennium Park). Tasty food with generous portions. The Icelandic cod Fish & Chips, crispy and light, wrapped in newspaper-like paper, won us over from the first bite. Prices a little high, but adequate for the location and atmosphere.

We had lunch inside the restaurant which was welcoming, warm and elegant right in front of the Millennium Park. Excellent English breakfast and delicious eggs benedict. I advise!

Lovely atmosphere and delicious food. The service was great and they were busy with the lunch crowd. I had eaten here more than 20 years ago and knew that I had to go back.

Attended a business dinner meeting with set menu There was no vegetarian option on set menu They kindly offered and made a delicious vegetarian curry Desert bites were fantastic as well Waiters were very pleasant

Grab a booth and settle in for attentive service and interesting menu. It feels like an old supper club, but delivers on contemporary cocktails and food.

I thought this was a great restaurant and we both really enjoyed it. Our reservation was at 10:00 so it felt a little rushed but overall I recommend this restaurant. They have a great outdoor dining section (heated and enclosed for the winter so I feel like you could sit there and still enjoy your food when it’s cold outside) but since it was late we were inside. We had a comfortable booth and it’s well decorated (nice bar). Service was good bit rushed since it was late- at 10:30 we were told the kitchen was closing so did we want anything else- I get it . Our food was great and this is what really matters most to us. Would definitely go back.

This restaurant, on the touristy part of Michigan Avenue, very close to the Art Institute of Chicago, delivers very good bar food and drinks. Had not been there in a while but, after revisiting their burgers and spanish gin and tonics, we think we will stop in more often. The Gage is an attractive space dominated by a huge bar and usually draws a crowd at both lunch and dinner . Service is friendly and efficient.

So when we got there, promply seated and drink orders taken. A bit of a tequila fan here and they have Fortaleza!! A must get if you are from out of town which does not have this wonderful tequila. Had the cobb salad, added grilled shrimp. Salad was fresh and shrimp cooked to perfection. I hate places that over cook the shrimp.. take your time to get it right. Then we had the lobster mac and cheese. there was dang near a whole lobster in this meal. Again the lobster was not over cooked, tender and fresh. sauce very flavorful and right consistency. had the cream burlee to finish off the meal. It was wonderful. Was one of our best meals. Wait staff was on it! very friendly and attentive to our needs! From the front of the house to the waiter to the bar! well done folks! Come without our hesitation!

Had a great meal here after doing some sightseeing downtown. The convenient and popular location is reflected in the prices, however, the food was very good. I had the best wedge salad, yes, wedge salad, I've ever eaten here. Thomas, our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable but not intrusive. The service was quick. One word of caution, this appears to be a popular spot for Chicago Bears fans after the games, so plan accordingly.

Came here 4 1/2 years ago while visiting food was outstanding. Had to try the dessert when I saw creme brulee on the menu. Best I've ever had, outstanding. Came back today just for creme brulee and again outstanding. Perfect balance with thin crunchy top and delicate fresh vanilla bean custard. Thanks for the amazing consistency.

We returned to our hometown Chicago and after visiting our favorites at the Art Institute we wanted lunch. Not knowing what was great in the area (downtown changed a lot) we wandered only a block north of the Art Institute and came across The Gage on Michigan Ave.; we poked our heads in, liked the atmosphere & the greeting at the desk. We were lucky we acted on that nunresearched decision. The hostesses we’re warmly welcoming, the waiter gracious, not overbearing, helpful, and gently good humored. The chilaquiles were the best… as good as any we’ve had from Colorado to California. Our salads were wonderful. Can’t wait to go back for dinner on our next trip back “home.”

I love it when served a nice meal with over the top service. Our server Elijah’s attention to detail, knowledge of menu and overall professionalism was exceptional. Food was good. Cocktails excellent. Atmosphere old style with modern comfort. Best choice if you are in the area.

The atmosphere is great. If you come to Chicago and want to visit again... Visit the Museum of Art and Millennium Park right in front of it. The location is very good.

All of our dishes were first rate. Service was friendly and very professional. Lovely outdoor dining but we noted the inside seating area smelled quite fishy.

Very good friendly and warm American restaurant. The kitchen is succulent and well served😋 The staff is very friendly 👍 Service at the table by 1 very welcoming young blonde lady during our 2 visits.

Cosy place with table cloth, candle and flowers on the table. Great service with knowledge of the wines and suggestions on what add ons fits. We paid $53 per person, which probably not was worth the experience. We had two vegetarian dishes and one burger. Wine or soda. There was not enough rive for the thai Curry and they charged for more.

Service and food was GREAT and the staff were great l, we sat by the bar and had brunch it was goooood try their burger for sure

Our server was not just professional, but also warm and engaging, making outstanding recommendations from the menu for us.

The gage was very good and customer service was on point. The food selection was very different with scotch, eggs and curry and chips on the menu. Everything was delicious and well cooked. Highly recommend.

Thanks to bartender Steven's knowledge of food and beer pairings, I had an enjoyable evening sitting at the bar and tasting several selections from their extensive list on tap. It was not my first time at The Gage, and it won't be my last. Try the scotch egg!

A great tourist spot located in downtown Chicago. The Bean, Art Institute of Chicago and the Pritzker Pavilion are all close by.

I have been eating fish and chips at the Gage for years. It has always been a fantastic fillet of fish, brown and crispy. Yesterday we went to have fish and chips and imagine our horror when we received anemic looking battered fish, comparable to fish fingers but not so good. They used the tail end of the fish and there wasn't a decent flake of fish in the three finger sized pieces we had. The price had risen which was okay if you got the same standard as before. A great disappointment and we won't be back.

Four of us were looking for a quick meal before making it to an architectural boat tour. We came out of the Art Institute and started looking for a place. Everywhere we tried was already reserved for dinner and had huge waiting lines. The Gage, however, offered to let us have a reserved table for about an hour in advance of the party who had reserved it. The staff couldn't have been nicer or quicker. We had a fun time with drinks and a light dinner before heading off to our boat tour. The food quality was excellent, especially given how rushed we were. I'd go back there anytime.

We were there for late lunch around 3 PM. There was no wait and the food and cocktails were great. Our friendly server Kim gave us excellent suggestions. I wish we knew about this place sooner.

good food, great for sharing great corn ice cream, loved it. great salad Wedge!!! food quality was great bread is priced outside. ideal if it was included.

We absolutely loved this restaurant! We were taken care of by Fabio & Stephanie at the bar day 1 and we loved it so much we came back the next day. The food was so good and the staff is on point with their service and attentiveness. We can’t wait to come back-thank you!

Our first time at The Gage was when it opened - we were there for the actual opening. It is still amazing. Go. We love the different seating areas. Given how busy they may or may not be, you may not be able to choose, but you can really customize your experience if you want to. Food is amazing. Get the soup special, whatever it is. For us this summer it was cantaloupe gazpacho. Great ingredients artfully prepared. Wine list and cocktails do not disappoint - get the chef's hot chocolate with chartreuse - just saying.

This was 6 blocks from my hotel. I just wanted to relax after the hectic National Restaurant Show. They had an excellent dark beer, started off with a Pub Schotch egg and then the Venison burger Service was good

We had a big family table for 24 people. They arranged wonderful starters, main courses and dessert all to share AND made it possible in a business setting. Flexible and friendly staff. Everything was tasty and tasteful.

Excellent food and service. We had a thai dish that was amazing, a perfect balance of flavors, spicy but not spicy hot, many flavors but well managed. For dessert a lime tart, very delicate.

Great vibrant atmosphere. Delicious food. Tasty drinks. Every local and tourist alike should find the time to dine here. Treat yourself to the crème brûlée if available. Chef came by and had a drink with our party.

Beautiful setting. Making the GF options more easily identified on the menu would have been a plus, but the food and drink were excellent.

Fantastic experience dining with my daughter. Prompt service, exquisite dishes, and excellent value for money. Quality ingredients, expertly prepared. Fast, efficient, and delicious!

Wonderfully located in the heart of the loop, this is a lively restaurant with a delicious fare. The martinis are excellent, although super pricey @ $22 (the martini service, but how can you resist?). The fare is elevated pub with touch of Indian, so very interesting. The salad and muscles were really good, as well as fish'n'chips and venison burger. Def a return. Service is friendly and sitting at the bar is great.

The Gage restaurant is a well known, upscale restaurant in the city, and has a perfect location near many attractions of the Chicago Loop -- parks, theatres, shops, cafes and other restaurants. I stopped at this restaurant for brunch, was seated right away in a nice, comfortable dining area indoors, which is one of several dining areas of The Gage. The server Lylah F couldn't be nicer: she was very hospitable, friendly, and commented on some items of the menu. The Classic Gage Breakfast was very good and tasty (eggs, sausage), not excellent though: bacon was very greasy, and potatoes were flavorless. The size of the meal was quite generous, and Saratoga bottled sparkling water was absolutely perfect. The restaurant is very nicely appointed, has a full bar, a pleasant-looking, large seating area outdoors, the decor is classic, as well as the whole relaxing ambiance in the restaurant. All staff was very polite, welcoming and attentive. Overall, I enjoyed my stop at The Gage, it was a nice break during a busy day, and the first acquaintance with this restaurant, so next time I will try to order something else from the menu, which looks very attractive, with many choices and details.

Had lunch at The Gage while visiting from out-of-state. Found it to be a welcoming, warm environment. Service was good, meals were good sized.

Visited 'The Gage' with my Sister in Law and her Husband, who live in Chicago, when I went over to 'do' Route 66 with Eagle Rider Rentals and Tours. Great place to eat, good portions without being too much. It was noisy but that can be expected as it is so popular it is always very busy. Despite that, the service was quick and really good. It was an easy walk from my hotel too.

Quick to seat us as walk ins. Nice quiet nook by the elevator. Great service. Shared fries to start with a yummy truffle sauce. Then had shrimp curry and poutine. Lots of good food! Not our first visit and we will be back!

Super spot just opposite the Bean in c Chicago, great atmosphere food and service. The desserts are fantastic in particular the cobbler

Incredible happy hour spot!! I had a dozen oysters to start and shrimp cocktail for the wife. We had a gin punch and a French 75 to drink for happy hour. (Okay, multiples of each). We then had the Duo of Deliciousness (fried pickles and cheese curds with beer batter). Next, the truffle fries were delicious. We noticed three bottles of Scotch behind the bar that we were unfamiliar with, Aberlour. They had 12year, 16year, and 18year aged single malt Aberlour. I asked for a flight of one once pours. We really enjoyed the flight. We had another pour of the 18year aged Aberlour Scotch with our dodgy sundae for dessert. I highly recommend this happy hour!

After visiting "The Bean", across the street, we walked by The Gage and inquired about seating. To our delight, we were seated on the outside patio immediately. Service here is polished and professional. Everyone is friendly. Food is excellent. People watching is exceptional.

Great. Quirky. Awesome bar (large). Menu was perfect for lunch options. Very professional staff. Highly recommend! We had a business lunch and it was easy and quick and perfect. Also across the street from the park and the famous bean.

Had previously gone to The Gage pre-covid and had fabulous mussels. Wanted to revisit the mussels as they were exceptional in our first visit. The recipe for the mussels has since changed, which is not surprising but disappointing. The previous recipe was more broth and butter forward. The recipe now is more southwestern spicy forward without the butter flavor or texture. The mussels were still good but not as exciting as the butter based mussels. I lowered the rating a bit as the mussels were also extremely gritty. Grit in mussels is expected to some degree as they are hard to clean. However, we experienced large crunchy grit that was very off putting. We will not return for the mussels.

The Gage serves up exceptional drinks! From classic cocktails to creative concoctions, each sip is a treat. The bartenders are skilled, the ambiance is cozy, and it's a must-visit for anyone looking for a great drink in Chicago. Cheers!

Popped in on the spur of the moment, and glad that we did. We really liked the layout as it is a room of many rooms, which cuts down on the overall noise and allows you to be able to hear what your dinner companion is saying. Food was good and we were able to get some salads to go for later. We'll certainly return when we're next in the city.

We had a great time at Marco's tonight! The cuisine was excellent, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. My medium-rare ribeye steak arrived properly cooked, juicy, and flavorful. The staff made sure everything was just fine and was friendly and attentive. A charming little place that I will most certainly visit again when I visit the area!

We went after visiting the magnificent Art Institute and ate very well. We had a really good burger and a delicious lobster roll. Highly recommended

A local friend recommended The Gage for our guys’ weekend in Chicago—and it was so good, we ended up going back for a second dinner! This Irish-American gastropub delivers both in food and atmosphere. On our first visit, I had the Lamb Vindaloo, recommended by the owner himself, and it was probably the best I’ve ever had—rich, flavorful, and perfectly spiced. The setting is fantastic—whether you’re on the outdoor patio with views of Millennium Park or inside enjoying the stylish interior with its long bar and cozy seating. We came back the next night, and it somehow topped our first visit. I tried a Scotch egg for the first time—it was delicious and set the bar high. The halibut with green peas was another standout. Some of the group tried the chicken-fried lobster, which was also a hit. Service on both visits was excellent—attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. The Gage is a place that nails it all: great food, drinks, service, and atmosphere. Highly recommend!

I feel personally obligated to write this review because of one simple reason - I had the best steak (Ribeye) I have ever had at The Gage.

The food was great and service was tremendously outstanding. The hostess was very welcoming and i was treated like a VIP guest. Would highly recommend !

We chose this based on the TA ranking near our hotel and our play "Six". I could not have been happier. It was like two blocks from hotel and theater on Michigan. The food was amazing, the best steak of the trip, and the drinks matched, great Old Fashion and Spicy Margarita. We had a great table that looked out on the patio and sidewalk and the service was excellent as well. It was a great meal with great drinks.

I have enjoyed meals at The Gage for several years - they have remained very consistent with their food and service. The Gage is located right on Michigan Avenue - directly across from Millenium Park. It's a handsome place - but still welcoming. There is a nice bar at the front. Service is excellent: refined but still very personable. On this visit I enjoyed the Beet Salad and the Steak Frites. Both great. My steak was prepared exactly as ordered and the frites were crispy and delicious.

First of all, service was fantastic - this review focuses on the food. Decent cocktails (martini in a desert cup not preferable but maybe they were short on glasses), fine apps, but the Coconut Curry was thick and soupy and filet had no taste and was chewy. Kitchen had a bad night in my opinion - maybe training? Loved the Gage in past and will try again but not for a while.

Had a fantastic dinner and great cocktails at a Chicago staple. An amazing bar with an exhaustive whisk(e)y, rum and wine list. Can get busy so a reservation might serve you best.

Cool location but like many places in Chicogo, overpriced. The place is small but nice. Staff very friendly and dressed to be expensive. So be prepared for expensive food and average quantity. Mixed drink was 2x more and half the size of anywhere else I have benn.

A friend and I stopped by for a glass of wine after spending a couple of hours at the Chicago Institute of Arts. We were seated on the covered terrace. It was a very good experience, but I might have expected more — the wine was “a bit off” and the table service was professional but not personal.

A great place if you’re going to Millennium Park. I went twice during my weeks stay in CHI. The fried Pickles are great as was everything else. Impeccable service to boot.

What a lovely restaurant! It has a lovely vibe, comfortable seating and nice decor. The food was absolutely delicious. I had the English pea tortellini and the tomato and avocado salad. Both amazingly fresh and full of flavor. My husband enjoyed his fish and chips (note: it’s a large serve). The crème brûlée was a delicious finishing touch. An extensive drinks menu is also on offer, although I just stuck to a G&T. The staff were friendly, did their job well.

We found this place at the last minute for lunch while walking around town and it was fantastic. I had the Da Bears Burger and my husband had the Corned beef hash. My fries were crispy and the burger very well seasoned. I loved the fried onion rings on the burger! My husband is an expert on corned beef hash and said it was excellent. We don’t normally get dessert at lunch but our meal was so good that we knew we had to try dessert. We shared the basque cheesecake. It was firm and well cooked. I would have preferred it without the fruit topping but otherwise no complaints. Service was friendly and attentive. This is a restaurant I would definitely return to.

The service and food were fantastic, I would recommend to make a reservation, the menu selections were good.

On Michigan Avenue this is a spot for the well heeled. We sat on the patio but looked into the main restaurant filled with mainly business people or the people who like to lunch. Fascinating place to people watch. Service was excellent and fast. We ordered the Lobster Roll. $30 it came with a salad (five lettuce leaves) Note: The Lobster roll is NOT an actual roll but a sandwich. and the half Chicken sandwich and a cup of cauliflower soup which was very tasty. BE AWARE: This is another restaurant charging a hidden and undisclosed 3% SURCHARGE!!!! We didn't know until we received the bill. The servers don't tell you the surcharge can be removed..so of course we paid it.

Wonderful experience from cocktails to meal. Service was excellent, ambience was very nice and the location was awesome right across from Millennium Park. The Gage was a great choice for a date night.

Delicious burgers, nice waitress. Located in the center - near Millennium Park. It's very convenient to eat there or have a glass of delicious drink after a walk through downtown beautiful Chicago. Separately, the opportunity to leave a tip not in cash, which we did not have time to prepare, but by card when paying a check was welcome.

With its superb location across from the Art Institute and beautiful outdoor terrace, I (jaded NYer) expected outrageous pricing and mediocre quality. Well The Gage sure was a pleasant surprise. Stunning aesthetic inside and out, top notch wait staff and a fun and varied menu for both Bev and food. Imaginative cocktails. Beautifully plated food, even at the height of lunch . They were packed with what appeared to be mostly locals and a sprinkling of tourists. A sophisticated crowd, for sure. My very sizeable soup(corn chowder) and half sandwich (smoked BLT) with salad arrived promptly. As of my August visit, Art Institute had no food or Bev options available. I'd certainly suggest you consider The Gage.

Very well located and decorated. Everything we ate was great. Highly recommended. Very good lamb, fish and chips and curry.

Initially we were sat in a very dark table below the TB screen, although not r did get loved when we asked. The prawn cocktail and mussels were delicious. However the filet steak knocked it out the park - the best on our trip to Illinois. The red wine - it needed breathing and the staff provided a decanter ! One thing that detracted was that the staff cleared the table before all of us had finished, and where was the house appetizer? However the steak was great.

They were very gracious about accommodating the small children in our large family group. The food was a hit with everyone.
BEST BRUNCH!
We have always loved dining at The Gage and today was delightful because we enjoyed the weekend Brunch. Seated cozily by the fireplace on a crisp day we had between us: the Croque Madame/Smoked Salmon with all the components and the traditional egg/bacon/sausage breakfast. All plates were beautifully presented and farm fresh ingredients.
